This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and sharks are now. You're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day you're sick leave your world. And stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck saga. Well trade continues to remain in focus today which US China trade negotiations or rather lack of negotiations. Taking center stage but. Restore to move past that think you know some of the the main focus being there and it we got some economic data coming out we've got. You know a couple little acquisitions that are happening. Get him. Matt talk about today so we're trying to focus too much on trade we have touched on it a little bit to start the show least jerks out of Mike Armstrong talkers over here. And like that's that's obviously start with the biggest story of the last couple weeks. And that is the status of the trade conflict between the United States and China and I wanna start off. By specifically looking at. The strength of the Chinese economy and so it we got retail sales numbers for China. For the month of April they came minutes seven point 2% growth from a year earlier. Under shooting forecasts have you know some more around eight point 6%. So it's a big mess there in Alitalia. The date in China look for personal and if you can retail sales numbers from China you're not getting real data to begin. Yeah AF. All to these a little bit when you think about them but. Overseeing a month over month decline. Marie is talk about slowing down it's still talk about the growing your three year retail sales seven point 2% but you're not but to get you on your pricing. Less than that. I'll give you an example just so there's a great to Twitter thread. From. Is actually have a great account that follows the Korean economy this is the kind of stuff that I follow on Twitter is economists who look at the Korean economy. But it's by a woman by the name of tree now Max. And pretty much Neil looking at the entire. Really. Asian economy at this point. In here are some of the things that we've seen. Just coming out of Korea Indonesia Vietnam and other places like that just it just to put some of the some perspective. In terms of where I think China's economic activity really is. If you look at Korea right now. And if you look specifically. What is called fixed capital investments are pretty much plant structures they has along those lines. It's now down to minus 8% year over year in Korea that is below where we were at the same time in 2009. So the economy in Korea at this point. Is screaming that things are looking worse than 2009. Released getting to that point OK that that's where you are in Korea right now. If you go over to. Indonesia and take a look at the economy there right now. At this point what you saw here. Is that the imports and exports for Indonesia. Are down thirteen point 1% year over year. This is a huge trading partner of China and you have exports down thirteen point 1%. Year over year that tells you that there's something fundamentally wrong that's that's going on in China here. Japan okay this this is again at number that I've referenced before but machine tool orders in Japan Japan is being. The kind of almost the Germany of Asian terms of you know heavy machinery manufacturing things like that. Japanese machine tool orders are down 33 point 4% year over year for the month of April. 33 point 4%. You can't tell me where China actually gets you a lot of the equipment to manufactured. Yet to build its factories and things like that. The can't tell me the Chinese economy is growing at all. The confusing part two is that they do clearly have some pretty bad numbers to mean dating admit that the more vehicle production dropped 16%. Missed it and now put down eighteen point 8% the steepest decline that we've seen in there since September 25 teens there's certain parts of their economy they're willing to admit look pretty ugly. The real estate market was one there were there she said looks. Quite strong in comparison and his delivery printing money to buy a realist yet there it it's pretty much payloads build real statement print money to buy it so that it looks like we have some growth happening in real stay that private sector fixed investment number is another one just have very serious doubts about so it basically if we're the first summarized in this report we got a bunch of numbers after China we're not. A 100% sure what to make of them they seem. To show that the Chinese economy was slowing even before we put terror to remember these are April numbers this was before we impose tariffs on them. They were slowing before that. And we have doubts about just how real these numbers are so it would be very agency you know what China puts out for the month. If you take a look overall that just Asian trade numbers. Asian exports for the last. Winds this go back to let's let's look at the last two years is exports over the last two years and specifically just the whole region. You go back to August of 27 teams a little bit more than two years ago. In Asian export growth was around 14% at that point. Today it's at negative seven for the region as a whole. OK so I'm just looking at this and this also a huge the other thing that I look at with China right now. China is a big big consumer pork and they've got this African swine fever and that is supposedly forcing them to call anywhere from twenty to 50%. Of the pig herds hurts. Sure I didn't do pigs heard. Tucker can anyone else but it can you Google this and figure out what went back to what you call a group of pigs to the league's. Her pavlik like a pocket of pigs that sounds right but in any way you can say I heard. For a pair this is just. Picture I'm gonna call it pocket as pigs just as I like the ring of its so that the Chinese pocket if pigs is is declining anywhere between twenty and 50% they're having to kill these pigs. And UF cases where. You have people trying to buy food in the can't get it on the shelves right now so you've got a weakening economy you've got you know major problem with the major food product that they consume there. And it's not pretty and at the same time we get the Chinese Government saying hey hunker down like the Korean War because this could go on for one. Us that's just an askew so we Yad looks like things are slowing down things. Appear pretty bad and are probably worse than they appear. Does it matter from from our perspective as the united trying to beat China on trade. Does it matter or word is there enough power from the Chinese Government that they can just tell people hey you do need to hunker down. Deal with so I'd I don't think it matters with regards to getting a trade resolution because if there's one thing the Chinese Government is shown its that they are willing to make their people suffer in order to accomplish the goals the party and that's that's pretty clear at this point. I think that when you take a look at that what. I wonder about with regards to this if there won't let this get significantly worse I wonder how much worse the global economy gets no wonder when we start seeing significant impacts domestically. Because I do think. When we talked about. Get kind of a symmetric response that that you can get. Obviously the Chinese political situation is very different from the one in the United States. In if you do start to see the US economy weakening as we head towards the end of this year in into 20/20. That's something that I do you think potentially. You could cause the US to blink is something that definitely won't know I mean look you could have the presents a hand gonna fight the good fighting kind of you know stick with this. I don't know if that's the case but this is the kind of thing where when you're seeing these kinds of numbers coming out. A eventually is gonna spill over to the US yet but eventually it's going to and eat it hasn't. In any meaningful manner to this point but that doesn't mean that it won't and so this is something where. You know again I I wonder how much of this shock the US economy. Can take you this when are we at a 3.2 percent GDP print in the first quarter that was all excited about. Lot of it was crude inventories and in a temporary drop in imports because of the government shut down so I don't think you're gonna get anywhere near 3.2 in Q2. Butts. This is something where not from a trade perspective but just from an overall global macro perspective. I think things are gonna get a whole lot worse before they get better. There I mean if you're talking about the second largest economy in the world slowing. By you know these numbers here which we don't think are all that accurate but yeah they seem to be slowing I'd. What ten and 20% of the publicly stated numbers and it could be it's a bit worse then of course yeah I mean if you actually have the Chinese economy soared by 50% year over year. You absolutely will have a ripple effect the rest of the world. So get back going on when we talked about you know just a quick one last piece on this. President trump saying that he will gets a trade deal with China wind the timing is right. Doesn't mean anything in in my opinion you know it's like why even tweet that. As I don't even know those words and it's time is right. So I may disagree with you there because it seems like every time he comes out with a tweet like this the markets turn around and rally that so from that perspective I think we need to at least pay attention to. They went to when the markets are freefall and present trumped tweet something like this. His over the last few months at least they have reacted and they've reacted generally pretty tossed. Give them next week on the it seems to be relevant. And then also just in terms of pieces to ignore. The former US ambassador. To China so there's a 5050 chance of trade deal at the G-20 will have a heck do you and law. OK so so just just a reminder. 21 not pay attention to people giving you specific odds on a trade deal because. Known as by the like someone telling you 5050. Is telling you they don't know ya whenever you're fifty effective gonna okay thank you go to bat if the guys telling you yeah there's a 5050 chance this. He's telling you that he has no meaningful information to shift in any direction I'd say yes or no. It happened but also could not so I'm gonna say may be a okay wonderful fifty. So in meaningful is actually you know what let's take a quick break in the we're going to be talking about a what I think is actually a big story in the world of streaming. Disney gaining full control of who who was in a deal with Comcast were to do that right after this break. Armstrong. Sharks. Breaking business news every day here on the financial exchange radio network. Yeah I I go back to the first apartment that I ever rented us there were five of us in this. It's terrible Somerville apartment. But we're all trying to coordinate our Renton it was a bit of NASA and kind of heinous. How does this all work on on the platform are you able to split out the rents at how does that really make the end Lawrence. A little easier. Shore Michael thanks so we created searing it's really automate and simplify the whole rain collection process for landlords and property managers. And what we do is we we basically third individual tenants will debit them individually and patched their payments together and sentenced to its. So lame horse loved it whether it's you know a single unit landlord or more of a professional landlord hundreds of units. They uses product. For the reporting the automated rent collection for the tenant. Rent splitting so it's it's been great. That's pretty nice you mention that most importantly it's completely freaked Harry get it offer for for yes so our strategy has been a little bit different we don't charge tenants and we don't charge. We do is we actually licenses through banks. Who then offering to their land work its. And for being a client of that being too becomes a free service vote the way in the hours and tends attacks at a number of different New England local bank set up or we do we have quite a few institutions are all available on the rent dot net synching going sea world we adding new institutions. Folks again the name of the service is he renting you can get a lot more information by going to see rents dot net it is a completely free tool for both landlords and tenants. The financial exchange for Barry and judges live on FaceBook every morning beginning at ten days is the financial exchange radio network. So last segment just to wrap up for us and we're talking we're talking about the the problems with. Pigs right now in in China and is that you have this African swine fever that's going off pigs. And we are wondering what the name of a group of pigs is and fortunately our listeners know everything is 413 text in. A group of young pigs is called a drift that drove Earl litter and groups of older pigs are often called a sounder of swine. The team or passel of hogs. Sounder swine sounds like an amazing band name written it up. But they got to feel like to be a heavy metal as lenders. Senators to line is they call me the sounds there are some line or like you click a pied piper for pigs I guess I'm the sounder of swine. Well me and they give it just it is. Like that I think I've I've found my new calling is I want to be the boundaries one thank you for zone yet that was that was quite good so. Disney yesterday in a deal with Comcast. Buying out effectively the rest of who originally if your member who was a joint venture between Disney. Fox. NBC and CBS. And pretty much. Disney through acquiring fox ended up buying it's part of who CBS said yup we're pretty much you know non interest in anymore than Comcast held I think what was it about a third of under thirty that are sent it up the third of it. And so. Pretty much you have. And Disney now owning who pretty much outrage and so. The big question that I have with regards this who what was not you know nearly as big as Netflix. But it's there are a couple different options with regards to who okay for people who aren't familiar with how that the product works there are. There's an option at 599 a month where you can watch all the shows on who op on demand. But it does have advertising. There's also weigh in ad free version twelve dollars a month. And then they also have who pause live TV. Which is similar to a YouTube TV or DirecTV now or PlayStation view it's 44 dollars. That's where they stand and it. Did you have something with regards this steel now than I respect you just did were so that's that's what you have as far as how the pricing goes and so. My thought on this is that. I think it's only a matter time now the Disney owns the whole thing. Before you get the Disney triple play of Disney wants which has near that the movies and things like that yes PM clause which has near your sports. And there and Hulu BO at any one of these version the kind of work with the cheapest ones to Tennessee with the math looks like. Saying hey get all three of these games will give you a discount off of buying them separately. Get that it doesn't during the papers no. I did what what party you're not interest in the ESPN part. I had no urged watching sports senator wanna watch a lot sportsman most of that's on you know NASA and the basic channels for NFL. Or sometimes. NBC sports this doesn't really do much for me. And you know I make the inch and some of the shows on Hulu but it's not nearly as in sadness as it would be an Netflix. Here's the math is done on the basic who package so let's say you did a triple play were right now you'd have to pay five dollars a month for ESPN plots. Seven a month for Disney plus one Zach comes out is that that's later this year it and in November to Everton are currently. Yes somewhere in there. And the based version of who with ads is six dollars mostly out of altogether it's eighteen bucks a month for the three of them and actually sounds fairly reasonable it is when you put it that way. But I could see Disney coming and saying hey separately these are eighteen. But we'll give you a 20% discount will knock that down. To fourteen box if you do wall three. And so this does take us to our whole question of the day that's up right now on financial exchange showed dot com. What do you subscribe to a triple play package of Disney plus ESPN plus and who for 20% discount. Ends. My mind so things kind of well and no way I don't think I would. But then kind of thinking about everything that's on and on these platforms. It's fairly try. Active actually. So where I would be is if they offered me a discount for the whose life TV. Plus Disney plus a 20% discount on that as well I would sign up for that sector so ESPN really doesn't do anything these days so that Disney does an hour and a Disney doesn't want to buy them tied with. I'd I mean a pre pay for full year of the business membership so if cool pause live TV instead of being 45 months that it 20% discount went down to 36 all of that. So you do that it's a 36 and and plus you know the other twelve at other ten so. 46 bucks a month supreme what you get everything for the current price of who posts live TV I would do that the second but yeah I mean it. They're gonna d.s that's right in your own all three companies the only way this doesn't happen is if Disney decides to sell ESP which. I still think him active. I'll tell you what's around I don't know I mean just think about there's different business right yet ESPN which is doing all this. Dude sports betting and all this different sports stuff and then you're Disney making Disney movies and Star Wars I just don't see how it really well yeah I mean won't get total sportsmen in the coming up I mean does need sign off on that you know I know that it right it just doesn't seem like you've got. Two things that were missing in action I I I would subscribe to us and it Disney would be Smart. If they even under cut you know the YouTube's in the PlayStation views of the world. You know if they come out with a competitive price below those guys who boy looked out. See out and I just don't think there's much money to beat mania undercutting YTV subscription Disney's even party said. That once today you know a year in from their subscription that's starting at Disney plus I mean. They're start jacking the price up on that is once we get more content on there. There and it started increasing so pattern now I think we've seen prices go up on the services already. I don't think disease and making money by offering steep steep discount I mean pages to Netflix in the it is on a could Netflix did they under cut the victims out there and making him. And in by the way a text from four went three I do want to confirm the sued Disney actually is not sold and Comcast has not sold their state to Disney at this agreed to do so they've agreed to do so in the next five years. But Disney is getting immediate control over those shares and permit voting perspective. So like I do wanna clarify then thank you 2413. For pointing that out battling. Not a bad deal effort for Comcast law in this game Peterson who was most recently if fifteen billion dollars. They're basically saying hey within five years we have the right to sell it back to you at least 27 half billion yeah. It's it's saying hey look you know we're we're gonna make a decent profit on this walked in annualized return. And look it was. Did you it was a thinking if you Comcast makes sense when when this was a case where there was no majority stake or read a bunch of companies held between twenty and 30%. I was OK you all had negotiate with each other. You don't really wanna be a passenger for whatever Disney decides to do now here you might wanna focus on your own thing down director and you you own NBC unit one role that your whole loans streaming service and not be attached and if possible you know you've got nine billion dollars coming in within the next five years that you could potentially play with in order to do that yeah. Let's take a break when we come back we've got Wall Street watch and also the latest on ESPN getting into the sports betting business. Like there's something. I was on Twitter. Show breaking business news is always first right here on the financial exchange radio network. But they they pulled back what's what's what's going on why is that happening. Check out an eighth seed beat on Ernie and maybe different outlook our profit and when he thanked me. All very good news there e-commerce and mobile Al the double agent and that's really what's driving the business. But main door sales are actually up as well this is good news dollar alchemy is as you know a lot of actors are watching this company op play. Many of the retailer. Brent very closely at you which companies are offering and the thought of I train up of 1% of big difference on that premarket. And think their breath but the market is dragging the knock down slightly in particular retail which for parties you know April sales down. So while the company did well would like investors are looking at the broader picture at just tell me. Really made it sound right to beat you know huge frank. An online retailer also a lot in the news today Alibaba. They're up about 2% today beating up the rest of the tech sector what's the reason for the good performance from them. Yeah Alibaba is another company that was up about corporate and premarket now is straight up about about one part that. They also beat on both earnings and revenues this is a company that actually often used as a barometer for how well Beijing is the economy is doing debate in China. And actually that a despite the trade or went China they're kind of benefiting from improvement. In my in the over there. It's all of double digit on my tail broad. About 21 or patent. Europe for years now within daddy comic actor but that's very good news and if not actually up about 31 Spaniard could be a very good up side the I bet you're a tree particular our Ali about. Is pretty cool and me necessary SP and is also an avenue show called the daily wager that guesses meaning and be based on this. And I've I've never been days I've never been into sports betting on that much but it's inching at these big companies start to really dip their toes and it. I get why they're doing this they're gonna make a boatload of money do they are going to make millions and billions of dollars. Have beings are sounds like you're not happy. You know I have to bet you don't love sports betting or anything to bad as an adventure doctors more hesitant about everybody. Having the ability to that daughter named Carol that are out like I have no problem with people betting I think sports betting should be legal in terms of like we're cultures had it. I just I don't like the idea of lake during late. During a team just having like odds popping up late K you can gamble on this heading into the third period or Haiti could bet on whether or not Mike traps give it a home run is make. I just I feel like it takes away a little bit from just the game existing on its soul I mean I was is different than fantasy sports well. Honestly I think it fancy sports are kind of a pain when you're watching a live broadcast as well again if I think. It is and always meets in no way and when broadcasters start talking about fantasy points yup I think that I agree with and I'm a big fan senior you know S target and I were watching the hockey game in their odds rolling on the bottom and ticker I would be in I'd be tested I think it would it would it would just bother me a bit if it's just like popping up everywhere and I feel like that's what we're getting to. Wars I can't. I can I don't mind that is that it adds the entertainment aspect of watching. Big game because I know that. You know now like to Carolina are to exert that you know steep odds against them to it now come back and beat the Bruins because they're down three nothing so. You know as a fan you do it all look at the odds in this their major underdogs now or something like that. And look for for better or for worse this is. Give me turning into a crotchety old man at this point but it is a little bit yeah you go back over the years and in look. Back then it was a there was no advertising on the quarter anything like that and so look I get that you kind of have to adapt somewhat. But I edges. If I feel like you here's the difference is that if you of advertising on the court. It doesn't change how announcers. Talk about the game does change a player's plea the game right is that kind of stuff that will. Giving a change their players for the game yes. If you want. Further evidence of that look no further than what fantasy is done due to how players. Look at themselves these days like all of that all of the articles that have been written about how. You know fans will go up to players are viewing share and you'll you lost me my fantasy game last week like in 90% of athletes will be like I don't care. But it's still like it still is something that affects slate how fair view would watch the game is just. I get that we're going to have this I guess I just don't want it so for an instant. Yeah I'm managers think it's that it's a notes app is too bad I just haven't it's really just a factor of technology altering. It is nice interest payment improvement. Again that I mean in what what they could do very easily to get rid of this is just Megan options of how to turn this off. But if you don't want to see it on your broadcast you can turn at all. Such an old man thing to say hey that's our Billick I think you can like. I don't see a problem with that I'm now and there's discount of two off my lawn sort of for march 5 at. I don't know like I think it's going to fundamentally change the ways that games are talked about. You know if it's going to represent another shoots and it's the next leap from you know having fantasy out dominant. I Natalie CA I mean how. People's viewing of the NFL significantly changed since it came so I suppose it's definitely. I mean it can legally give and unfortunately the you know the likes of the NFL I've. Altered their rules to fever offensive players now because of fantasy sports. And that. I'm not crazy about. So it's. Look I made the NFL. Hundreds of millions of dollars and did and that's that's by the NFL out of Huntington has the money he's rolling in how many games are people watching that they would not have ordinarily watch the fourth most sports huge battle now you're adding this element of bedding to a more money. So encore Boston Harbor they're trying to hire 5500 workers in advance of would still supposed to be a late June opening but there's chatter they may have to push back a weaker to a think they announced that last week. But so that they're trying to hire 5500 people. In so what I'm saying. That wages they pay and benefits are paying pretty nice. Yes so the effectively what you end up getting here. Is that for. People working in restaurants as an example. They're going to be making between 644766. An hour plus tips which is well above the 435 state minimum that most servers are most restaurants and Miki and legacy and I haven't spent time casinos but I'm thinking your tips on the it's going to be long held a lot more up beat at the restaurant they're going to be strong dishwasher security guards housekeepers calls and workers they're all gonna be right around twenty dollars an hour. And you're also going to have things such as paid parental leave at 41 K plans obviously that does not happen in the restaurant worker dishwasher security housekeeping industry know so. The the businesses that are going to be affected by this it's it's not even just years year McDonald's and subways of the world now it's you're you're talking people that might have these seem geeks even you know you get housekeepers just all the hotels in the Boston area they might be if they you know they might be saying hey we need to you know take a look at this and see if it makes sense I mean you have examples here of servers that some nice best restaurants and in Boston as one who's lost three in his best servers. Can't compete with if you guys. If you had a wrong people and casinos apple you're you're gonna be crushing everything out of there like oh yeah here's a hundred dollar now get a drink cost five dollars now potentially until 4 AM yeah. I think I'd want or they're tea. It's easily yet it's going to be really intercepting this isn't just a guess Boston this is not just a casino this is a major destination resort. Lot of jobs. It's it's really fascinating when you consider what was there before. Offering a pretty much landfill I believe it is this it was so toxic they couldn't do anything to have that I was gonna say it was a really cool glow in the Arctic. Spiderman was born there you know so. Also in a news in the Boston area jewel that selling six and a half acres of land. Rate on the fort point channel the this is a huge removed for you'll 218 million dollar monster deal 218. Million dollars it's going to developer related Beale who seemingly has been putting up all kinds of stuff in the last couple years signs pretty much all over the city. And I would imagine it's only a matter of time before we hear what they're going to do with this but. Like most of the things that related deal has been building I'm imagining multi use development apartments and condos. Hotel and some first couple fours retails probably would I expect to see here starting at one point five million dollars for an 800 replica and I think it's going to be that. I do here's one question that I have what you think it stadium. I think it's that I know they're looking at a years ago. Are we talked abolition. They were looking at that specifically according to reports about 23 years ago at a place and execs at pagers enough space for. Yeah out. You know that's the only income by something else it'll sound like you're not gonna make 218 million dollars back on the soccer stadium like look I I'd love of the revolution had a stadium in Boston but it's steep it's almost too steep price there excuse restaurants condos bowl and you walk away tripling in the one question that I do have more traffic on and that is in the area where this is I do wonder what kind of height restrictions are in place from Logan. So you know it and giving exam on steep forty pretty much can't go above I think it's either like sixteen or seventeen stories. Because of its proximity to Logan and this is a little further back than that but I do wonder what kind of restrictions or are you probably can't throw forty or fifty story tower now are up or you don't need to you. It's problem on to capture. Let's take a break when we come back really talk bet FaceBook and the pressure they're facing to try to rein in the live streaming of well terrorist events that's coming up right after this break. So FaceBook here has been under a lot of pressure over the last few months. Since really since the did the attack in and New Zealand. At multiple mosques that ended up killing a Wii was 51 people. When it was all said and done. And what they're doing I don't think really make sense or will work some pretty much what they said. Is that they're going to impose a quote one strike ruled that will block people who have violated certain FaceBook rules such as posting terrorist content and blah blah blah and so force. OK so if you go and shoot a place up and then kill yourself. Who cares if you're banned from FaceBook then I think the mean. I really don't think this is ground breaking it all with their do. It's kind of goes without saying but I think what they're really trying to say here is look if you re post something that was. Coaches people white Nationalists. And stuff and then I think what they're trying to do is say. The guy who did this had riposte to budget stuff you know in the months leading up derailing weren't signs there are warning signs so we're going to spend that accounts of that. Can't live stream stuff well and in what's to stop you from getting into the FaceBook account after. You know what I know with a fake name IP address on amounts I've added probably masked ball that's right it's and I understand how you are if you want to do this that you're going to deal to do I guess the difference would be. I think the real danger is when you're doing this in you have a whole bunch of followers. Rate you're YouTube account and you've got 101000 followers and you decide to live stream something terrible. And that's a much bigger deal than if you have a brand new phase 35 friends. I guess. What when I look at the problem is that. That the Christ church attack. Was vague they have one point two million instances where they had to go we go and and deleted because people kept re posting. You know it it's not necessarily. That one person with a lot of followers does that you get this thing just spreading because a ton of different. And again if if year cutting and off the beginning and saying what the person that. We think is at high risk who has a bunch of friends won't be able to you know won't be able to easily do this. I know you're at least attempt to I have no idea whether or not can be successfully don't have the technical knowledge but it. I would think that Facebook's that a little bit thinking about previous instances where this. Has happened and said this is the way that word meal to deal that's an ode to her in general FaceBook and oversight is not something that typically put together with the third were being successful now you choose to and somewhat similar Ned Davis is saying look if you have more than a thousand followers then we actually like blow to a you do live streaming features you have to obviously have to be posted first which apparently last and to just more easily. Scanned them and look for its sea island yep you know part you have to take steps these days I don't know what the perfect solution is the only power port. Is wondered about this from the beginning in that. Look cool when we talk about league broadcasts of TV shows and things like that their Dunlop did to dawn on a delayed for a reason and that's just one show. That generally you know what's going to happen like the worst thing that happens and a lot of shows like Justin Timberlake pulls off piece clothing from some. You know so. I would get this. Compares. So. You look at this and it's like look if worst thing that's scripted TV even when it's done alive needs to operate on a set generates second delay. It does it seem like you should have idiots that are on YouTube and faced in I'm not saying don't live stream because I don't think that's the answer it continues confined to the platform that helps out the doesn't have any restrictions and you live stream so. I'm just sit there and saying. What what's wrong with like a one minute delay you can still in Iraq with followers on a one minute delay like you can still respond to them yet there's a little bit of a delay or something like that. Put something like that's the type anything that would easily BO analogue. Should this stuff that would seem to agree. More or less than your 401K depending on you know what you defusing what your 401K actually provides. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day it's. And now the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and sharks done us. Well markets opened up today in negative territory the Dow was down. Doubt it down and we end up. 170 points. Six tenths of 1% Sierra about 170 points but. We've got markets rallied back into positive territory now the Dow was up twenty yes and 42. It's jock Mike in Tucker here today and our top story this hour that I wanna start on us and geo political items here not so much related to China. But actually that are going on in the Middle East and specifically. You've got Iran. Denying. A United States claim. That it was behind attacks on some oil tankers in the Persian gulf over the weekend. Ands. You know it's it seems like we're getting to a point where it's you know these tensions have been ratchet up pretty strongly. But we just. Product for an aircraft carrier the year yes we we did bring a not just aircraft that are brought a full care salt group into the areas so you're talking you know coast twenty ships yet thousands of men. On those ships. And so certainly you have tensions that there it didn't pretty high as the US begins to implement. Sanctions with no waivers. On the sale of Arabian oil and so. At this point. We still have actually not gotten comment from US military personnel on this we've beginning comments from encouragement military personnel. Who have said that. They did not believe there was any increased threat from Iran. Two troops in this region so you know that is a starkly different picture than what the US is painting right. Now and I mean. Keep going back to our relationship and our allies on things like trade and things like access from my expertise slide but. Has one of the most concerning peace history's arc I would consider the United Kingdom. If maybe not our single closest I'll say they are aid the closest one right I mean the closest one. And there are. Which is publicly finance Sony's just differently with a history between the two countries like you file multiple wars against each other than them. I mean I get why it happened but okay publicly coming out and injured disk claiming with United States is saying and it's really concerning to you you really don't want ago. After. It is and I certainly don't do with the saudis back. No and in in looks certainly there's been concerns for about the last year's so ever since. John Bolton joined the bush not the Bush Administration came from. Multiple Bush Administration have been joining the trump administration. DO Bolton is someone who's been an outspoken critic of Iran for a number of years hasn't. And I think you know that there was concern when he came aboard. That he would you know potentially look to escalate. Tensions between the US and Iran and so look at obviously that's that that is cause for concern. That the big thing that I also look at with regards to this is. You can't engage all of these potential problems once you have to kind of sort through priorities here. And if you are taking on the set of the world's second biggest economy in what's becoming a pretty significant trade conflict now in or start to see you some real ramping up there. If you've got that going on. You have to kind of say to yourself look we can't do everything it wants well. I mean check camera I agree with you on some points there and yeah I mean we have most information that we would need to make a decision on it Chinese trade and European trade tariffs on autos. There is quite possibly a lot going on behind the scenes in Ira and that is not public information that you and I've. Can't possibly know it can't possibly say what's actually happening though so absolutely today there is a lot of this stuff and yet you deathly to pick your battles and he would get the story later that the the US is delaying implementing it terrorists on autos are clearly were pick your battles here but when it comes to things like national security. I have a real tough time judging you know what's the appropriate move at this point. Which is why you know the only. Key takeaways and I have from the story is that you know the UK general telling reporters that they are not seen increased Iranian threat was concerning to me. Edgy and and you've seen also is the this is general this is the direct quote from him just it to put it out there there's been no increased threat from Orion back for it forces in Iraq and Syria were aware of their presence clearly we monitor them along with the whole range of others because of the environment to work in soap gets a pretty direct statement there. Obviously looking you're seeing these tensions ramp up. As Mike said we we we don't know what's actually going on behind the scenes been an access to classified information. But the thing I can back to the fact that book that the one. Knew the actual one military person who's commented on this threat is that look we're not really seen anything right now so it take from that what you will. At the same time as this overnight you have the United States also ordered all non emergency staff to leave Iraq immediately. And so you're going to. You you're you're clearly seeing the United States and it is an increased threat risk at this point for one reason or another. Which is why I'm so confused about the UK comments here. We are taking action to remove our diplomats from Iraq because of a threat ran. And UK's really publicly saying otherwise. Stand it's it's something that it again it is it shows there's a clear disconnect in how the two sides are viewing this. At this point so I it's I mean they gave you yet there was a Saudi minister I think it was two days you'll also said it was unlikely that Iran had done this Oates. You're getting some a lot of cross talk on this and I think it's pretty it's just really hard to see what's actually. Going on let's talk about us dvd oil. My caddie pronounces. Kennedy candid video I think that's actually had a video. Look it's I I don't know but CB DUI so I took a few seconds there if you heard the possible. It's one of the components. Found in marijuana is not the one. To get you all high loopy and feel like you're on a different planet that's TH C. But CBD. Is the F thought to be something. That may help in neo potentially a number of different areas but. Pain relief being one of them one of the areas that it's been tested and actually approved by the FDA's treating some types of pediatric seizures. So it's definitely got some use case yet that there's some thoughts that may be useful for depression and anxiety and things along those lines. But there hasn't really been a ton of verified research. In fact like next and not a pretty much been done because of how marijuana has been scheduled we have really been able to do any kind of actual research. On CBD just by itself. Boy that hasn't stopped just about every company not every company out there but but horn of companies from claiming that CB he has all these miracle be. Properties that can you know hear this and help with that in your senior popping up and weird plays a mean you've got. I've got people that are buying CBD sprays for their pets that they put out there who does stuff like. And make up products like all sorts of ski applications. Personally I was at a bar on Monday night catching up with different and from Colorado. Look at the cocktail menu there's a whiskey cocktail with CB deal. Early yeah. Do you I was in San not to mention barks I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to do that I feel journalist action and so on and tell everyone that yeah that's probably good call by and yes I've heard of several bars in New York City were shut down these acts. Interest. Yeah I mean I don't know if fuel load combining old whiskey might Steve media echo words Leo but serves and it'll plying. You know some sort CB deep remedies for their ease pain or something that makes all the sense world. Yes but I've literally mean the same thing packets at the same thing at this point about talking marchers. The listening that goes on is obviously in order for these these speakers to hear your commands they have to be you listening to begin with. What about the listening that goes on if no command is given is there any recording of that that goes and. That should be about what they've got a company. You know the correct answer. And they were to attribute based on Rob Gronkowski turn thirty years old yesterday. And so we're going to be asking trivia and we can take the were arguably out of this on on who what who was the greatest tight end in NFL history Rob Gronkowski I'm not. Ruffle any feathers once. What was the highest number of touchdowns caught by Rob Gronkowski in a single regular season Texas at 63566. You know the right answer. And because this is relatively easy let's do the twelfth person. With this answer is this is one that is easily due to global gold global. And so again what was the highest number of touchdowns caught by Rob Gronkowski. In a single regular season Texas at 63566. If you know the correct. Answer pastors speaker. You probably could do that I would imagine you could do that actually easily. Alexis how many touchdowns and Rob Gronkowski catch in his. Letter and even on a phrase that you just heard a pair a what else is new it's always take a quick look at markets is that were coming up to a break in a little bit. Looking right now the Dow or increasing its it's earlier losses. We're now up 100 points after being down 191 point the S&P is up fifteen the nasdaq's up 77. And so. Look one positive potential op piece out there drug administration saying hey it's not going to be implementing any auto tariffs for at least six months of that potentially. You know helps things out both domestically and in Europe a little bit. But obviously still in English what he's out there an incredibly resilient market. From the law firm of Cushing and dole and were talking about the different ways that you can old real estate. Todd what I wanted to talk Cuba first if you will. Is what are the implications. Of transferring your home to your children than in order to protect it. From the nursing home. Yet and it's a great question because so many people think that's a quick fix a quick easy way to protect your assets from the nursing home but. While it will in fact protected from the nursing home at the end of five years. I would never doing I would never recommend why you give up way too much when you do that to get the one benefit of protecting it from the nursing home. For example you now don't know anymore. You don't have the right to live there. You could be thrown out by your children. They could have a divorce or lawsuit or any kind of a lawsuit right pairing and kind of a financial problem. And that house will be on the chopping block and you could lose your house why could you don't. And if you wanted to sell it. You couldn't get the money back to you get the money to buy into my money would go to the kids could you gave it to the kids you gave a ticket if you wanted to downsides you you can't do. Not to mention the fact that when you do that. You arts trapping all the built in capital gain right if I paint attacks in the kids when they sell that even if they sell it after your dad would have a huge capital gains tax to pay a bear these people by their houses during forty years ago sure. Yeah so last segment we did today whole question and little Italy Rob Gronkowski. Is a trivia question. Whatever the same what he sent simple question. I was a wonderful I was looking at our poll question on financial exchange of dot com which is not related to Rob Gronkowski is come back to. The trivia question was what was the highest number of touchdowns caught by Rob Gronkowski and single regular season the answer was seventeen quit the radiance. A lot of people but Ted from Hanover at the twelfth correct answer. And that he's taking home fifty dollar gas card and trivia today brought you by the Armstrong advisory group. With the market still vault them now is a great time for review of your portfolio call 803934. Zeros or one. Instead of your free no obligation consultation today that number again is 803934001. And we had a wide range of answers. The lowest one that we got was four. And the highest one that I saw was eighty which I'm guessing I heard that. No Tucker don't laugh on their approach but total public tucked career because he does have eighty career touchdowns. On the NFL. Listen so there's that. So I guess is for 2011. I think that might have been the year that they are I guess he molested by which she did have seventeen touchdowns in the 2011. So does that it's on air race in this against the 2011 just that's the last year Philadelphia put in a soda tax okay and what they did here. Is they actually was met two years ago the introduced this one point five cents per ounce tax on non sweetened drinks and January 1 of 27 team. And what they saw was that sugary drinks sales dropped 38%. In Philadelphia after this. So I mean number regardless of where you find where you sign in the politics of this. This is being government's definition it. It had the desire factor right that same thing that we do a cigarette tax in Ohio in as that some people say look is too expense were knocked in a bind and now the one question that I do have. This didn't show any information. Force surrounding areas did it well no I did not make kind of so inside the city limit at Philadelphia. You saw sales drop by 51%. But when you looked at sales just outside the city. You Soledad. Actually increase that's how they came to the net 38%. Yup decrease overall we don't know how much it increased radically increased when you looked at sales outside the city of Philadelphia and really win when we talked about. Drinking soda we're talking about something that literally exist for no reason in the provide you with sugar. Dennis bars caffeine there's no health benefits are obviously know that the it's none it's I mean tax shirt read it okay. There a health benefits to eating steak yes which one iron capped. But pro team. So I mean look there is plenty of things that we all do that are no good for. And we do not tax. It's very tough to draw lines I happen to agree with I would I would love to see soon attacks that injury didn't I don't want kids to drink and nasty and because diabetes supply and liquid sugar there's a ton of things that we do that are bad for me to task causing a time health problems across the country dollars which are not taxing sugar in general. You just tax action he showed it away you are taxing sugar test detects. You know taxing. Vitamin water which has problem equal posture as as chemical Reitman water sugar and it. And as you vitamin water zero. Wait I ate at the vitamin water was water. No demolished I don't know what I'm thinking Smart water that I'd been on our side of a thinking I would I was thinking a different one night. Did it. This to me similar names and they bring things got really an original ya you know equality totally just it's it's awful now but. So we did see a meaningful decrease there. I've seen have you seen any other cities any of the big ones talking about doing this. I know initially there are couple I haven't seen any of them policy which is a surprise and it was a New York click on more of those they had a similar tax line there's was shut it down pat was on buying like a large drinks and it prevented you from buying like bagels or did they they like half the size of the drink you can buy and I think he got shot down. Big golf sacred. If you knew that was coming. Burger King their parent company restaurant brands international speak of non descriptive names. And so they are backed by three G capital. Who really has been on kind of a bad run in the last asked in a minute there I mean. Other than in past times they've got a pretty good track record. They do with the craft Tynes misses a Billy it's a bit I think that's the biggest deal that they've dawn yeah. And it's pretty much been a complete flop but so what Burger King is is seeing here is. Just not quite the the growth. That they've been wanting to see they're in the process now closing if you wonder performing stay stores at the moment. Pop eyes is also owned by this. This group. And NB Norton's. You know what what do you make of Bob Burger King struggling at a time when McDonald's doing so well is it is it just everyone is going to McDonald's or what what's the problem. I don't know I mean there's a lot of Wendy's is struggling to they're not the only the fast food restaurant that's seems to be struggling a little bit. I don't know when was the last I mean granted I don't go to fast food restaurants all that often anyway after college and McDonald's three times in the last couple years but I haven't stepped written and burger came in. Over again I can't remember the last time I went ya engineering I can't either I mean I think is just a matter of our generation specifically has become. We more health conscious. What we're putting in our bodies. I think that's really what it is but you've been to McDonald's no I haven't I have then is I have two and it's. I went to McDonald's three weeks ago and I had two cheeseburgers. Whatever the middle peace make nuggets is in a large Fries yeah I mean you are also on a bachelor party it so yes yeah I mean the last time I had McDonald's is it about shall there there there you go for me is when I was running late to a meeting hadn't eaten it is 3 o'clock in the afternoon it's for sure McDonald's is there berg when he wasn't what two and a case which he goes. Too much ado between peace we nugget of them in a hurry and yeah I usually via a trend towards chicken in his two into a coma for a little while afterwards. Mcdonalds trying to. Move towards personalized. Ordering. What do you make this I think on some level it makes perfect sense do you you don't drink coffee Sears now has the Tucker does ease the Starbucks. So when I use the Starbucks app. Dialogue and there. And 8 news. Where I am so it's gonna point out the closest store and it shows me all the stuff that I've ordered previously. Customized via. I can quite literally just tapped. Two buttons and I've got my order to hold up and it's waiting for it when I get there. So that part of it I think makes a lot of sense and it for the other part of a two day if I'm driving through. I drive through in the middle of the blizzard I don't wanna see an iced coffee advertise to break. Likewise about driving through or start a drive through and it's 110 with huge UN percent. I don't wanna see a hot coffee advertise to push the things that make sense at that point makes all the sensible I think an expert. A bit that's just some more outside their Smartphones to it seems like me I know they just made some sort of massive acquisition. This out for digital boards or something like that. Yet they say they spent 300 million dollars on this company called dynamic yield right and it seems like this the company that it's gonna shift in real time what it shows on their driver for many it's pretty cold so. Now I think that makes sense where I think. People have been talking about it asking about him McDonald's are you going to trying customized. The menu for when I walked in your restaurants and calorie you can knows it's me. I don't think McDonald's gonna go to and the rout of sang of what we recognized your face and based on what you were previously. Once you order this ad giant whopper that I don't think that's the route that they're going to try and go I think it's more about customized with me please based on. What's happening. In the weather and what you previously ordered ago move waistline recognition. Of a huh. That that that's a good one I'd like to analyze mr. Armstrong you have fortunes so I assume the journal on these supersize Fries and or maybe your cut Amtrak you tell me so I think that they are actually going to get to that point eventually. Thanks waistline reckon there's some that athletes are glad recognition talker facial recognition right. I don't think so I mean and then you. In terms of walking into McDonald's and they're like hey what's -- gets -- I don't think it's going to be the next three to five years is I think the technology still too expensive and you know clunky for it to be used on 1020 years someone Aaron I would imagine that that's going to be something that you've seen a lot of corporate and virus surprised I mean CEO on the calls that we tape privacy various years sleep here and we aren't going to do anything our customers don't allow us to do down the road as we get more personalized in terms are remembering who you are that is going to be an opt in scenario in and here's the other thing it doesn't even necessarily need to be facial recognition you have all the things right now with the the the ability for cellphone beacons and stuff like that the that you walked giving India a thousand square feet third a McDonald's your phones and yet so they can they can recognize just based on your phone if you've interacted with them previously so. I think you'd even see those kinds of things. Kind of as a as a bridge to the facial recognition even if you might not even get to necessarily facial recognition but I think they're gonna start marketing. Pushed off to your phone and so forth especially as you get towards a more people with Smart watches and things like that. You know match you're walking past mcdonalds you're down Suton is oh it's time for another big Mac like I just really really hope that all of these companies are Smart enough to take the approach of an opt in a clear out the for a yeah. Very clearly stated we are going to track your location and yourself are you OK I mean look at all the web sites now order you log on to web site the page you can you are cookies for the laughter because of the right in relation to them they have to take a similar opt in approach there I would hope so. Why can't tighter her I just you know the only ones hold this whole thing up here about your whole shoulders and just followed on Tucker still only about 45% of the way there pastor winters 0% of the way there sir and I've always been. You know little bit behind in and it's it's just how Lloyd tempted to operate only child passenger. So it is thought that in order to maintain. He and a population. Barring you know immigration just looking at BO people who were already in the country. You gotta have two point one kids per family in order to have no effectively replacement level that population growth. Which we haven't had since 1971. I know it's it's been 48 years since we have had that kind of the organic population growth. And by the way this is not unique to the United States. Last year the total fertility rate in Japan is one point four children per family so they're worse than us in Germany it's one point six worse than us Italy it's one point three so. No one's having babies in the developed world this is the worst thing in the world really. Well here's the thing the way they just for traffic six. That's what I think so a come on god you'll get this in terms your commute yeah. I to that I think he's probably avenue world so people. In in general not necessarily so that the one place where really causes problems is just the way the economy is currently structured. Is that to a certain extent if you're not quite a Ponzi scheme but it kind of is in that we've always relied on more people sell more things to an order to grow up we're not quite sure how to grow with you have fewer people now so that's. That's kind of a challenge but. You can't really use a debt based you know growth strategy via fewer people just. Isn't quite efficient. But I mean that but. OK go go ahead with your positives year but I mean this creates massive issues for all of our government. Welfare system so that's not saying I'm saying all of that based partly if you're running a system based on adding more debt in order pay for things eventually if you fewer people to really weren't Social Security Medicare all of these things become very big issues declining population so looking you've got problems associated with that. On the plus the biggest declines in the birthrate last year are due to a decline in teen pregnancies. And decline in single parents given. Which Dugard thinks that you what you you don't want more teen pregnancies at least I don't personally. That scares and you typically don't want me or single parent families it's just it's harder to raise a cute when your on your role I don't think it. You're raising three kids right now to be massive there's when he how hard to beat them open. It every hour and a every that hard laughing turning decrying in five seconds hard that's how tough but he has so. The big things were were not seen any changes here and look I'll tell you. I see a whole bunch of my friends having kids and start families in this and that. And you anecdotally it's like like you bush and have cable notes is my friends are now worth eight were happening here and annihilated with social media no changes here. Chapel we did reach. The replace the fertility rates in the United States reached record. And in the big thing actually that you're seeing here interestingly enough. We're not seeing fewer families having kids you're seeing the same number of and we usually have fewer kids it's you've gone from and we saying yeah we're certainly gonna have 34 kids down to. They wonder too is kind of enough. And I think a big part of it's probably financial it's you know it's it is if you are median income family in the United States make sixty grand a year. It is daunting to try to read one kid let alone three. And and that's obviously gonna mourn factor now granted Massachusetts at the highest. You know. Child care costs in the entire country but I mean yeah around here tests indicate a full time daycare. For good in figure talking about 20000 dollars a year plus. This is one as yet just one in the worst. Or is there napping half the time anyways you're paying someone to watch them at least bombs.
