Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck son. Happy Good Friday happy Easter passover. All of out of all the above. The markets are closed today on this Good Friday April 19. We have hit a lot of stories to cover nonetheless an exciting day yesterday with the IPO both interest. And zoom. Congress apparently considering raising the smoking Ager the tobacco aged 21. And Sears back in the news over their bankruptcy. Feared we start with the exciting IPOs yesterday we talked a fair bit about both interest and zoomed. Interest a fairly well known company. But zoom a little bit less well known Mike are charm Peter Howe and Tucker Silva with you this morning. Let's talk about the two companies themselves what they do. And how their IPOs went in general. Peter familiar with interest to remain fairly is that my wife uses their way if you wish civil renovation project are doing on the field in place and keep cut that. Interest has come in very handy that's exactly why indication would be sister in line. Pillows and paint right and tables so as Peter has insinuated guy that interest has a user base of about 250 million people 81% of whom are female. So that does not terribly surprised me that your wife is the main user that the interest in it of interest in your household. The stock went off yesterday Andrew winch farewell was up 28% yesterday pretty well received this is not a profitable company yet Dade. Occupy that social media space they occupy a very niche area. Where you know nobody else's day I mean nobody else is doing a snap Chad has a few competitors. And Stu grant has a few competitors based but does but. Nobody's doing exactly what interest is doing here so it's it's an interest in space that they're operating assays have potential investor I'd really like how closely tied interest is to buying stuff yeah and you know it just makes all the sense in the world you go from. Interest click to buy and again I think the upside over time is huge for that yeah I mean China as a company where they have a built in purchasing application directly into detectives so I guess I could see that going particularly well for pay interest if they could partner with they've been lower PayPal down the road to say. No we've got a payment application directly in here pay interest we can processor payment with one touch. And directly purchased through the applications there there's a lot of areas for growth prepare interest though it is not yet profitable. Zuma on the other hand a profitable company of video streaming company mainly used for businesses. Was up 72%. On their first day of trading that is the biggest increase that we have seen since the 2013. Day one IPO of Twitter. I hate being Donald downer but this drives me crazy when IPO's like this because it's her as CEOs carries it. Says to me the the investment bankers left money on the table and you know there's money that could be in the coffers of zoom and interest for that matter. That is not clear because they underpriced the IPO badly I would say you know it. A 5% 10% pop that's nice and you certainly want. To rewards from your friends we've you know wolf froth on the first day but I think missing. Where the market is gonna settle on the first day of trading to me that's. You know it it's malfeasance by the investment banker. Effectively what's happening when the company is going for an initial public offerings they are. Selling a portion of the ownership of the company and the investment bank in this case is saying hey we will buy. We'll guarantee that we sell this many shares of your company. For its price now the fact that the stock went up by 72%. Correctly means that the the investment bank very easily could says no guarantee a price of fifty dollars or 35 dollars and they still wrestled plenty of this year so effectively the of the owners resume. Missed out on some 72%. Of potential sale price how they missed that pat. I don't understand. It's tough to gauge the interest especially I would say especially when it's a company that is not very well known. And dozens against the do have some public traded competitors Xoom isn't terribly well known company on public interest so. This does happy day it does it's not all that rare mention Twitter it happened Twitter it's not the biggest one day jump you've ever seen. So but yet only eight other companies in history. Have raised I've I've closed higher gains in the first treating and the companies that are 500 dollars her lowered so. Also in the back of people's minds is you know zoom video communications. It was a great very successful company but at the end of the day is it's sort of one product Ian a much bigger companies product rather than. A standalone company yeah I died I brought this up yesterday agree with you Peter they've got some competitors with buried deep pockets and I think that they will expand to different areas and they are doing just video conferencing and file sharing right now and I'm sure that gives them room to expand other areas but. If Microsoft really wants to do this zoom. What you have that can't compete and compete better with makers and accepted built in every business says Cisco juniper you know as long list of people that could step in and loan is so good news or fewer participants in the IPO of either pinch sister's room. Less great news if you were the you know private owner of those companies because you certainly missed atom a lot of news gains. As we saw with lifts the initial price came out on the pretty high but that at a pretty rough. Several weeks afterwards so we'll see what happens with the prices of interest in next week it's a good thing that you have a three day weekend here for treating. It is it really gives the markets settle and look at these really. Great. So we'll see at a gonna say the the wanna and what. This other company called zoom. There's little story little nothing burger company in too soon and it has this. Huge stockpile of what was about 80% yesterday people this happens every time there's an IPOs or go back to that the initial public so what happened here first off. There is zoom video communications ticker symbols the end when there is viewed yes which did yesterday and there's new technologies ticker symbols the polo and who. Which is a Chinese wireless communications company that quote does not have any significant operations. This off a traded up. Quite a quadrupled. The amount of shares changed hands on an average day because of we all know people that don't do their work and just type editors and once wrote zoom I'm gonna buy well it's funny because during yes that is show win now we're talking about when they're gonna start trading. I was curious as like Zeum ha I'm onerous the tick resumes on a cool zoom and the churn up I saw that. Active stock was up to half percent outages like. Weezer and what's going on here but so do I assume you know all of Europe grew up here and bring you all remember the company Tweeter Tweeter center aisle of course a difference between the same thing happens its reader. Win Twitter IPO in 2013. Centers which was bankrupt was up like a 120% of the guy that Twitter IPO it five years old stuff that happened on that and I think they had to change their ticker symbol onto reader because you were so confused about it when peace prize. So if he actually made that trade sorry. You've probably got a little bit lost on the zoom verses to trade yesterday. So we've talked a fair bit about this on the show. The use prevalence of Hmong new people on the age eighteen high schoolers I think some 40% of high school seniors are using cigarettes at this point frightening numbers. Very very significant there is now a move in congress to consider raising the tobacco buying age to 21. A lot of communities have already done as biased as some states and go the town here in Needham actually has a 21 year old tobacco purchase a lot of tap through Massachusetts and there's a pushed him really. Havel's state goes on I had no idea yet needed Appleby to anyone to by tobacco. Caught a lot of states have passed that as well. I guess. I guess it would be frank. I think it would you know not I mean what's the difference between 1821 really. Well I think what it does is you can't have high school or tobacco for school. Remember I mean you were eighteen right culinary team once in high school yeah it was a little bit more difficult to get alcohol and one and again acts to speak for yourself. That's OKMR Miller shiner soccer. You know all the cousins your older Brothers and sisters whenever it's easy to do but I also think. Well maybe camera movement as it is just my own personal biases but I've thanked the taboo around younger did tobacco. Is more significant taboos about younger kids or Jule some interest maybe we're about that there's more stigma. I for a tobacco interest. Maybe I'm completely wrong though I don't agree that at least at least there was around I didn't mean physically but I knew hated. Smoke cigarettes their parents it's mostly my grandmother's cigarettes should carrier on the oxygen tank the last ten years of life so they'd never appealed to me whatsoever. Whereas alcohol didn't have that necessary directs. And it's negative life experience I totally hackers that sentiment. I feel a fairly RC cigarettes that are you know a deftly frowned upon him amongst teenagers or whatever but I think that's disappearing. I think that's disappearing Geeknews. There haven't been seen studies around. The bird to go to shows that are actually going to cause cancer. So I don't know if that's in stigma applies here why do you guys feel. In terms that he team on. The numbers I think. Tend to show around alcohol. Go 121 and I was. It in high school runner in the time that that happened masters went from eighteen to them. Nineteen and then 21 and there were. I think it went back down for a while other people who became legal became illegal became legal again. And it definitely has you don't knock down some of the numbers. And we also we were that generation that was just scared to death by pictures of diseased cancerous ones are no smoke one cigarette in the sweeter when applicant like. I do think you're exactly right that the electronic cigarettes have totally scrambled the equation considers. The sense that you know they're cool they're somehow much less harmless unhealthy detonated a completely harmless according to you know I think that's the message that you get if you talked to. Sixteen year old that using one these days so. And our kids still get in school in Copenhagen. I'm not sure wrote kids. But I know if you my reference in their. Thirties or whatever after traveling back in the day but I'm not sure about. Terms of high school to get that cocaine. Now and it's disgusting and I don't them when I was in high school lot of my friends are that I think athletes yet hockey players. So this all leads us to our poll question by the way we don't know whether or not the federal. Age for backers can be increased 21 is being discussed. It's terrible Somerville apartment. We're all trying to coordinate our Renton it was a bit from NASA and kind of heinous. How does this all work on on the platform are you able to split out the rants of how does that really make the landlords like. A little bit easier. Shore Michael thanks so we created zero rents really ought to meaning simplify the whole rain collection process for landlords and property managers. And what we do is we we basically if there's individual tenants will debit and individually and patched their payments together and sentenced to its. So landlords love it whether it's you know a single unit landlord or more of a professional landlord and hundreds of units. They use this product. For the reporting the automated rent collection for that tenant. Rent splitting so it's it's been great. That's pretty nice there you mentioned and most importantly it's completely freaked Terry guys able to offer for for yes so our strategy has been a little bit different we don't charge tenants and we don't charge. We do is we actually licenses through banks. Who then offer it to their landmark it's. Sears back in court. Sears holding is suing Eddie Lampard just nudge hedge fund DSL. As well as. Current Treasury Secretary Steven in new action who is forming activity SL. Basically the bankruptcy court and the people represented bankruptcies yours are suing you hampered again saying they stripped the company of assets and basically left broke. This is not the first time this accusation has come forward I am not sure what new evidence they're gonna have to present here. To hold a whimper anymore liable about. It's interesting to see that ESL says these are baseless allegations and fanciful claims which is you look at that revelers a repeat of the week but. This. Precincts scam allegedly here where you've got you you take the tour and 66 best stores in this year's fleet. And he's been amended Sarah touch growth properties deserted they've carriage within ass weird word. And some biscuits and heads we win tails you lose kind of deal yeah you know they'd get to pick up the Torre went specific stores whenever they chose for fee in the and Sears has to pay them hefty fines if they terminate. The leases so this is. All great business tragedies and the lawsuits I think. What likely happened here is there were a lot of very complex. Contracts written out between US Allen's years about how they're gonna obstructionists it was stores there destruction the sale of properties and real estate. And yes they probably looked pretty darn good Freddy Lampard. I think the tough part that you're gonna have proving here is that any of them were fraudulent. That any of them word you would not disclosed properly I hugged you genuinely believe that they probably led to the quicker bankruptcy of seers and enriched and Lampard in the SL investments. He would DSL hedge fund. I don't know that any of it was illegal break. Now I think the bankruptcy. You know I think day the people revenue representing the the debtors of seers have really no choice but to suit and then trying to get something from yes Al. Because they'd all left out to dry by its. I don't know that a whole lot is going to happen here. You know at the end of the day if you compare but two lawyers to get you from you know sixteen cents on the dollar to nineteen sites on the dollar worth that that's a great girl why Dan. Bad. Think we talked about this or Dan turner remember the exact statistic but do you have any guesses the peak number of employees at Sears had its at its highest. Think like 2004. Mid 2006. Now I'm sure tonight hundreds of thousands of yes some what different approaches a million dollars 360000. People they employed at their peak I think they're down to 47000. Pretty sad and answers back in the day they had great work shoes die hard work shoes. That I blow up. Yeah they had a lot of what was their tool brand my father not only to a crafts craftsman craftsman tool like. Every Christmas regret to get him a craftsman something because that was the only brand that he bought I guess that the brand still exist but you know it's years and standing behind anymore signature. How reliable it's considered these days and there are those out there who call it craftsman crafts and yeah I heard that instituted it there. Has or so has brought it really realized that you guys realize that has been is located just down the road in Pawtucket yeah I've been there but it. Jets pretty massive building and it's looks like kids wonderland when you walked inside there you mean you've been to Pawtucket you into the last night that inside of that court. You're really wanna go to. Why did you get it hasn't texted it's pretty funny stories like when outages at a colleges trying to detonate the videos thanks so. Once or short corridor tracked me down and say hey you're a guy who likes video and you're young with per snapper. It's so they they brought me in and I was very intimidate has added realized what a big corporation has really was and yeah. Gun or romantic interview and it turns out they were looking for elect a legitimate like Hollywood. A film producer or commercial producer. And I news is I'm just had to and light guy college job man on the streets and it like that entry level definitely I was literally entry level video in this recruiter just brought me in for the job that was you know easily at least five years experience so got a lot of recruiters in the late 20092. Balls and it is desperate sumo desperate so guests out was highly impairs they should make fun of it like right away situated and yes I think it to the immediate. Like I desperately tried to street picks. Hoses again I've worked with stuff from the videos. They were and that's an HDMI cord as if law which are didn't get the jobless it was way under qualified well. What I worry about yours protected is in competition with one S Angeles and you know Los Angeles. Detective. Austin I don't Providence right I don't I don't think there's and our listeners are RI up outside is that it was literally just out of the blue like you legislate in a random around. Aria com Pawtucket has had yeah. A ton they've got the policy arts for now right pocket when it when they moved to westar. Mature than the next leaders so. And that's going to be despairing that was the mean big thing they had in Pawtucket yeah morial hospital late last that Afghanistan so. I mean getting employees to go to Pawtucket is not easy if you're trying to attract young talent like Tucker Silva. There's a lot of work in Pawtucket quite frankly no that was the thing the commute was all felt lose so bad so I think they'll. Likely end up in at least Providence if not completely different stayed Boston is trying to court them a little bits in previous generations they haven't had much luck with that but it's they are attempting to see if and it might become in Massachusetts to. The biggest surprises this entire story. Did you realize the province tallest office tower has sat empty for the last six years while. What used to be there to renounce BankAmerica the last six years ago and fifty cents books. Rich quick break coming back we got Wall Street watch. Yeah again I mean that guy is ready to run for president if you ask me after election speech yesterday by outlawed very presidential. And did medias and popping out of him making people bare. Area uncomfortable it is kind of it's on in got a good luck for now residents creepy uncle Joseph but he was see Merrill walls were very passionate yesterday the Dorchester. Stop & Shop rally in the union more just say that all sounds well and do it but when. Talked to people. It I don't mean. To be intentionally. Disrespectful to stop the job Dodgers because if I were in their shoes I might be striking to be in might as well right now it's time to get more pay. But when I talk to people out there. There are a lot less of them on the side to Stop & Shop workers and I've seen with other strikes in the past him that maybe that's just my experience in my personal opinion but. When I look at this compare to the market basket basket strike. Everyone was on board with that everyone was seemingly strongly in favor of the workers where as here I see a lot of people saying you know what these people are making yeah money. We've got a pension that got good health insurance we did a poll on Wednesday show when you weren't here Mike and I think it was 50% ever listening audience. Worked against. Stop & Shop workers. 50% so. Masters or got a lot of apps. Let's listening tour on its. Of course market basket very different situation you know that the strike is out bring back good or her to be RC agrees Serwer is listed as you know stop screwing us and health insurance and via pay us more money and you know the interesting thing is stopped up it's the only major unionized. Supermarket. In the normal market. You know I think maybe part of the reason that people have a tough time. Relating to that is. Personally I don't know about you casting my health insurance premiums. Nearly you know go up 10% a year for the last five years it's not surprising to me that health insurance premiums are going up and kind of get it from the stop jobs perspective. But. From the worker's perspective again the job market so tired right now that he and you'd be driven by stop and job. I have you seen heavy gun inside one. And that's its district again I mean about it and at a picket line aggressor they can't find anybody work these stores and they're not going to be able to bring tense atmosphere easily it is a really really tight labor market so if you're Stop & Shop worker I guess now is it time to strike. I'm just not sure that this is gonna play off that well for for jail by I don't know how popular the strike really is. I don't. You know like book out here in terms of who's speaking up for stoppage yeah that's you know it's very hard to find anybody. Either of them of you know with stature saying get the company's right I think that the best argument that stuff Jeff has is. That. Did union often is not telling you know the whole truth about what the nature of their offer you know they've had. And these I think very strong to the point well written full page newspaper ads. And I've got colleague who does some work on the management center thinks of labor streets in her line is unions lie. And it's often share you know what what you hear from a union about what the companies put on the table may or may not be exactly true so it's and stepped interest interest of. Really make that clear to me it sounds like the biggest point of contention. From the union is that very few biggest you know obviously healthcare costs are going up and says that workers are going to effectively CAD Creason paid because there are expected contribution to health insurance is going up. The other big ones sounds to be debts. There are no longer going to pay a new employees time and half for working on Sunday. So that was always 875%. A Stop & Shop workers are part time time an app on Sundays would bump up that paycheck and they're basically saying look. We're gonna have all the new people that we're not playing time off work those Sunday's schedule that we hand which is again going to decreased and a lot of the exact same issues we send National Grid. The blackout you know pension and health insurance. Pace seems to be you know odalis kind of ranks at the bottom and it's more. A bargaining chip around you know come to really give you back on pace to make up for what we're taking away from you on health insurance yeah. I am I just look at and say you know Stop & Shop you are this middle of the road -- stories and not the cheapest one out there you're not the most expensive one out there. Injured only one operating with the union pension these days in the entire New England area I don't know how you compete. I don't know how you compete with market basket but the sooners I don't know how you can view it Amazon. In this scenario it's can be very difficult for them to reach a deal here and still be profitable and yours from self service check out that's what they'll as pushy too. Yup yup that's biggest Stop & Shop that's because that's that's gonna help that Israel is doing a tea is the only one that's not doing these days. Market master. Not a place materials of self check out there how much are not remark upon us I've never seen American basket and I've never seen self check at a market evidently. The Shaw's by me. Has three self check out things and to homer broke him very consistently. There's just so far behind the times where is you go to stop job. Boston Medical Center receiving 89 million dollar federal grant to study appealing. Addiction that is huge and it's. That applies to medical yes that is the federal grant that's being spread across several different medical centers to study this. Yeah of the top five in terms of I was looking at statistics in terms of pure deaths by different regions and New England is not any of the top five states for oh period deaths per capita those are West Virginia Ohio Pennsylvania DC in Kentucky. But I will tell you can look at some of these apps on line. And OP UA deaths by state. In 27 Tina and there's deed that yet for 2018. From what I've seen. But you look at the concentrations. And mean Vermont's New Hampshire Massachusetts Connecticut. All in the you know 21. Loss deaths per 100000 people. Significantly. Higher rates all along the air Pennsylvania they start getting into the Rust Belt there and significantly higher rates of hope UA deaths in the entire region it is. You know the impact of death and and it really shocking it's billions and billions of dollars down subtracting from the economy. There's a saving grace here I will point out that if you look at the year over year increase in a POA deaths Massachusetts New Hampshire and Vermont have not seen and it's statistically significant increase in fact in Massachusetts on decrease in terms of the number of deaths. But means those on increased Connecticut New York house on increased Florida to do so. Tough tough issues to deal with the and like we said. Friday April 19. Mike Armstrong Peter how are still with Thea in the studios today happy Easter Good Friday happy passover to everybody. Markets are closed today but nonetheless a lot of business news for a business story for us to cover. We mentioned in the first hour of the show that congress is currently considering raising tobacco buying needs to 21 from the current eighteen their number of states and communities that have already done this. Including Needham Massachusetts to me where will be we re. Broadcaster radio show from. We wanna know what your opinion on this is that obviously. Has jumped 78%. 12017 to 2018. Thanks largest popularity of vaporize or payments made by jewel. What do you think about this will moving DH for eighteen to 21 significantly move the needle I'd do you think it's ray do you think that it's ridiculous because you can sent the military and vote at the age of eighteen which camp I suspect beer or you when field by a pack of cigarettes. What are your thoughts on this you can log onto our website financial exchange showed. Com and cast your vote Tucker what the results so far you have results so far my on this question net financial change or dot com it's 54% of our listeners. Agreed that the age should be hiked to 21 I'm in the no camp personally aria. Yeah I just don't really see the difference between eighteen to one on. I mean when your eighteen you'll understand. The implications of smoking cigarettes are I just read or brick fully know what's going on debates but any tobacco part you know the implications. I mean is there any difference in knowledge between eighteen and 21 years old now. I don't I don't think so I don't think the big difference is that you wouldn't have seniors in high school buying tobacco products for sophomores. Will crack down on them more. I guess that's that that's pretty difficult cracked chair. So I I I struggle with that because I do think it's a little bit ridiculous that you can. Sign up for the military and voted a team which can't buy beer cigarettes. But if I'm just ignoring that piece of it I'm ignoring the other things you can do at eighteen I mean just rank about you know. Should seniors as mobile to buy cigarettes and this easily provide them to younger kids if it makes night. To use talk about he says they tried to tell us punitive there's my teeth that just music it's senate majority leader Mitch McConnell from Kentucky tobacco state who's going to be fun on this legislation. He does plan to exempt members of the military. So if you're any arrow marine or soldier near me and six you would be. Allowed to use the allegedly lobbying for this yeah I mean SS assays that. Altria. Back to British American tobacco and jewel have. All. Come out and said there in favor of this and that's why I think. It has had much more likelihood of passing at this point I just don't think there's all that much support for 1819 your high schoolers. Using tobacco. So we'll see reflect us. But you can go onto financial exchange showed cast your vote we'll check in again on that poll later if you want to text us at the show feel free to text number 635. 66. For the third time in two decades Sprint's and T-Mobile are currently trying to emerge again to become I believe they would become the second largest wireless carrier beating out AT&T. If they were combined. Once again for the third time it looks like it's probably not going to happen it is. It's a very hard argument to rip your head around that three companies is better for competition than for. You know they certainly make the case that. We'd be financially stronger will be able to for better deals. They differ here are playing in the five G angle very hard. They are and I think that's the only legitimate leg they would have to stand on. Which is if we don't merge then you're basically just going to have Verizon AT&T developing five G because we won't be able to afford to do it separately. So if you want 35. G providers then you need to allow this merger to go through. That's the only really bad that that stand on and it's tough to make that argument 25 G isn't something that consumers are demanding right now. They don't have access tweet yet so we can't really gas. How the rule out of five he's going to look. If ten years from now five G gets rolled out by Verizon AT&T and price points super high and there's nobody else doing it. Then maybe it's a better argument but then nick on question can T-Mobile and sprint combined for two. I. Of course Yeltsin had this sort of weird. Disclosure by expert worth. Where they suddenly you're telling regulators OK you know we actually haven't been doing as well as we have been telling Wall Street we can witness the signing people locked. Other trying to get a deal approved rights of their trying to say we're actually we aegis are not as good at this this region is eligible for Andy we want our stock price to go out but. Man just doesn't afterwards in serious trouble. Yes pretty tough to buy that argument that one point seven million new customers who turn out over the last six quarters or turn it actually not to be released new customers it's like. By one phone and get a second line free or you know get a free linemen two. Probe provide data to your tablet so all of a sudden you know the numbers there are one point seven million less than what's it's been report. Sprint shareholders are terribly happy about it all the stocks were down not today of six trading down occurring right now but. Sprint team Mobil stock word desperate was up yesterday about 2% but before that goes down pretty significantly. Team mobile up a began about 2% yesterday. On precinct last few weeks. So I can't be grumpy sure John would jeer the CEO of T-Mobile. Knowing deuce had a pair them get a haircut where bill done your due CEO of one of the four biggest. Telecommunications providers in America would elect a track jacket only on the the Ozzy Osbourne like now. Yeah that's not working for me yeah I'm not sure who is trying to appeal to. Hormonal. Eighties rockers. And it is not appealing to light the young hip generation. I don't know who exactly trying to appeal to me yet at this. Right in his shoes. You guys would you say that either of you shopped more bought any bigger ticket items in March vs the previous three months in December January February. It was early April I bought a mattress. That's the debate again and it is. Substantial purchase a yes man why didn't you do it in the previous few months to India. It was a budgeting thing in him. It is time we just came to the realization that we. Desperately need new actress that's all fairness the when I bought. Like an electric I hate spending money. You know my wife okay habit. I don't timing Angus make cheap skate. But I did I did buy an electric teens in the month of march who electric change so yeah it's great you play it and it and you know as a hitter going out into the middle of the forest a gesture after severe. Basically taking you know dead trees and chop them up for firewood it's great enough to worry about you know mixing oil and gasoline and ethanol destroying your genes. Interest. Well regardless the retail sales posted their biggest gain in one and half years new cars and trucks bumped up three point 1% total retail sales soared one point 6%. Month over month. December January February all the really bad and we are all trying to figure out and I we don't know reader every don't know why they're retail sales were so bad the last three months but you can take some guesses I mean we had a government shut down. We had one of the worst stock market performance months in history back in December. Yeah I had. Relatively bad weather across the country says that that can't impact things that this thing this is a pretty big jump you know the only categories that didn't see. Big increases at bookstores musical instruments and hobby items. Traditional brick and mortar department stores also were pretty flat. But yeah I. It looks like things are picking up pretty significantly and it brings me back to. Something that shocks product several times witches. It's looking like the American consumer is. Far more aware and concerned about what's happening in the stock market. Dan has been the case in previous years. He just feel more anxious about spending money went and you know areas can it bank dia when Eric comes back a little more it's like I know our economy I guess I will let you go out. By that new piece for Tucker do you feel that it again if you don't. I don't have a ton of money invest this upper market in this point my career. I haven't been able to save as much admire from time that I hope I can buy them at 45 but. Even so when the market's fallen apart I get a little bit more hesitant about blown out by new car or yeah during one of these on the verge yeah I mean it deathly feel that way it's more so line in terms of we're trying to still safer home at this point right. You know one of the options is I don't know it will not play as a first time home buyer you can withdraw money from Matt IRA yet again I don't know I don't do yeah I meet with I mean chucked it. But that's the only consideration but anyways yeah sure I mean I definitely feel a little more hesitant. You don't win a seat at the map forward Jack. Yeah I think it previously. Yeah it really haven't impacted consumer behavior that much unless you started scene. Unemployment going up analysts expecting these days with the stock market being such a deep focus. Of the news media and what we talk about every day people. Really changed their behavior on short term bow down fluctuations in the market I mean I feel like he a lot of people. Take take think of the worst crap from China and that's what I had been at a pier one and it's just like torture it's like. Just reeks of Pope Parikh and I just wanted to a lot of their. Glowing review of the stock price feel similar to stock price is down 26% yesterday trading at 48 cents per share. They were as early as. I mean this was a two billion dollar company as recently as 2014. They've got a market cap around forty million dollars today so apparently a lot shoppers feel the same way that you do it all hot horse to worsen I would have thought how many. 970. Stores all while. That that's a lot pure ones right they're closing 45 of them. I mean I I think this company based based on what's going on that side and doesn't look at an earlier round for a lineman who's their biggest competitor that is probably easiest shot one probably a fair. Yes sure everything that TJX does allow casino hotel owner it's on its soil home goods a smoker probably I would thinks. Oh it's TJX is doing incredibly well the last few years I don't know I've never never had any nation we yeah we went there once to get like some stupid candle thing for awaiting. Hands that was pretty much. The gist of that via. That's pretty much it is sort of like BM boot Tiki torches yeah. It's just a weird accent pieces froehlich indoor outdoor stuff and it's not that big of a story year. You know. Well. Yes so. I assume it's at least 45 stores potentially up 245. Stores that they're going to be closing I just can't imagine this company's going to be around fighters and a boat close mall. It wouldn't be the first time and these after the mortar retailers. It hard. Health care stocks off we talked about this media on Monday. Health care sectors in the worst performing sector in the S&P 500 this year it was like down 4% this week are pretty tremendously bad across the board and most of that has been tied. Not to any profit signals that we've been getting I've really has everything to do with political concerns. Will there be Medicare for all and what will that do to those health care companies I mean if you if you did have that scenario which would be pride in most extreme. Health care takeover that we can have in the United States. That it would put several businesses you know bankrupt United Healthcare would no longer exists under that scenario. I guess the question is how likely is that sort of thing happens there's a lot of people saying look. If you can you even with that threat here. These stocks are incredibly cheaper to be sent. Are they oversold and has relate to so there's a lot of technicians get in here saying you know CDS United Healthcare walls ball dropped precipitously since being the year. Really have to be willing to make a bet that the Medicare for all sinners doesn't happen I don't think it's very likely bites. That if that went through that would pretty much spelled the end for qualities. These companies. McDonald's. Dropping their signature crafted burgers and that they had signature crafted her Melo is that you broken up about this this flick. Angus steak. Stuff I feel like embassies in there like special toppings you can customize your burger with guacamole sweet bacon well beyond mustard retires to dabble guacamole to clean quarter pounders geez yeah it means in my pickles and onion throw me some chicken nuggets star like adults and Paula today you know that's all. I mean is trying to McDonnell pretend to Bieber can't edit your way they're trying to compete with five guys GA champ all of its business lines and people pissed off and just keep it simple keep it simple. So McDonald's is moving out of that space Canadian. We'd company campy growth. Has struck a 3.4 billion dollar deal to buy company called acreage. Which is all contingent upon this actually becoming legally in the states the entire 2.4 billion dollar deal is going through. Until this actually happens. Kind of strange to have a deal offer on the table. And you wonder what is the ultimate strategy here's a kind of a political pressure. Kind of move but. I. Did that in the future marijuana is going to be sort of like Anheuser-Busch. Giant corporations. Running it and I'll still make it's a conducted you know my number of experiments of marijuana seed undermanned most of them did not and very well. Tend to get wicked paranoid. The president to actually the the idea of giant corporations. Controlling. You know the news the market former ones candidacy infused products through harsh as my buds you know lesser of I wanna think about. Good on the guy's got. A hundred plants out back let's bring up my dope. Well I mean the same thing happened with the alcohol industry and now there vs happened so I'm not I don't know that it necessarily mean the Constellation Brands and you know these big big companies are Americans Altria and Philip Morse or a completely control. The the candidates industry in this country that action be pretty surprised that there went that direction that quickly. I'm sure that there will be some initial consolidation but then I would also not be surprised that people said. I like the smaller providers when this all comes out but. A step ahead Berry are strong here and I'm joined today by Todd looked ski from the law firm of Cushing and dole and and worked talking about wrote the guide to different types of real state ownership many view all home team I don't know. Home here in new England and he might have place in Florida. Todd what a question that comes up quite often is. What are the implications. Of transferring your home to your kids in order to protect it from the nursing home yet that's one of them. Worst things you can do makes my key which line really bad because. One you've given up control over your home two doors anymore. It and that's not a comfortable feeling of my client I heard a live there. Two if you wanna sell it you can't -- York if you do sell where's the money go most of the kids. Never mind all that there's a huge tax implication that comes from this even if your kids are great kids right. If you watch year. Ago thirty years ago you probably paid a little for now it's worth a lot. Right and you give it to my touchpad sale was tax free when soma house's tax free except it's not yours you gave it your children this example and that's the problem. And then you give them your basis. And if you give them your cost basis all that built in gain. Is gonna be taxed to the children so that's the tax problem you don't get that tax free sale when you mentally to your kids you don't that's a big night. So I mean right there if you have given it to them now are now even if they agreed to sell it they got to pay the ax and then you don't have the money you hope they give it back Q and then there's just tax. Nightmares have you ever thought about the best way to own and protect your home or even your vacation property. Reboot of the movie so. So there's a three. It was at the same actor rumble sequel and does. It really doesn't matter. The question by the way it was what was the name of the major corporation revive the police officer was killed by. Criminal gang and turned and turned him into Rupp robo cup. Jack from Dorchester had to correct answer which is the on the consumer products he's taken a fifty dollar gas card. Trivia today brought you by the Armstrong advisory group with the markets still vault them now is a great time for review your portfolio. Call 803934001. Set up your free no obligation consultation today that number again is 80393. 4001. Jack from dutchess to my kind of guy rate the and congratulations Jack. Amazon and Google seemingly Canada at each other's throats here in there and they beat competitors in the space is consumer products and delivering. Streaming she people's homes as well as advertising revenue dollars obviously. Google actually hold a lot of there content from Amazon devices like the fire T stick I use the tire TV stick in a school did not notice this was a big deal but it predators to deal. They've reached a deal to put that stuff back on the the Amazon devices. And prime video goes on to Comcast and Andhra TV Societe it's sort of like. You know will will agreed to put each other stuff up on each other's things yeah I think it's Smart in and it's sort of like. When you can't remember this is you're so young but early on before. You'd sign up you get a fund could text to other people who shared the same career move but you know you couldn't text immediately from Verizon and AT&T and then. As they started bringing those walls down the whole market. Explode. On the other hand you have Disney going the opposite direction right Disney has with. App poll will work in terms. Netflix or terms basin and saying hey we are pulling all of our content from all of these plates I recognize that it makes us that they get paid. Hundreds of millions of dollars. From the likes of Netflix for streaming yours there movies and TV shows on Netflix but there's sand. We can do this better on our own and attract customers away from you Netflix by handling this year. So. I see why it makes more sense for Google and Amazon played nicely in this space but in rare cases but clearly it's not working now Wafer. Keep going back to plus varies. As aria with. Three kids why would you seven bucks a month would be all of you if that's you're gonna have to buy Google Disney plus you kids young enough to grant him and that someday. Now that you might Ecstasy teens the idea of that. That's I guess I could double marvel sets being a good dad Mike to put the kids in front of the TV yeah exactly. That are relevant now. Not a doctor and it's over it now. Three times good time if you're. All screen time is good time to aid to set the record straight I did not set a different view very often does not reduce our house but they do get to watch Mo on every once I cut out the commercials that and also asked me to I'll use this. Crap crap then the word of the day I started an answer. Amazon if you didn't know had a venture in China that weighs trying to navigate the e-commerce landscape there competing with the likes of Ali Bob. Complete compete with the likes of I think it is tense and the other big one out there JD dot com he dot com so. Amazon was trying to navigate the space at the best they had about 4% market share at one point in time. And they have basically showed its there's nothing for us to do here we are getting out competed we don't operate in this space. And people are basically only using our serviced by. For an American goods from China counterfeit which isn't all that much stuff right. So they're shutting shutting down their their merger with another company that's gonna handle it for them. But I mean you've got you know Alibaba has 32% market Scheyer and people fully understand how massive Alibaba is a I mean I don't there everywhere are everywhere Alibaba is. Huge bullet. Amazon can't compete. I think it was I was like hey you know why it took to tap or out or out of should I also wonder how much of this is kind of patriotic stuff that's been stirred up by a tree at work. Yeah you know people talk as saying you know I'm mad now I don't wanna do I'm a loyal Chinese person I don't wanna do business with American. Doesn't you saw that happening with iphone's share news I thought it was dropped significantly. And people just saying no organized sport the and you know that's the main thing that this new trade deal is going after by the way is preventing this sort of scenario where. An American company your European company goes into China and there are these worst technology transfers. That that's the biggest thing that the American government wants to get rid it is if you do business in China you should not need to partner. With a Chinese company that's going to have access to all of your data back to cellar customers learn how you do your business and steel and steel. That's that's that is the story you've seen it with the Chinese competitor Hoover out there you've seen it with electric cars over there. And fortunately this new trade deal looks like it looks agreement at a century dealing Maier junior looks like it's going to be addressing that pretty significantly. Fed chair Kaplan. Say Robert Kaplan the Dallas fed saying that he does not see any real reason to move interest rates anytime soon does not see inflation and surge agrees that the philosophy that we should basically take a wait and see approach and not move interest rates one or the other. Pretty similar to what we've heard of Eric rose Ingraham at the Boston fed as well and I like it did you know it it just gives you some reassurance that. The bringing X the Fedor saying you know steady as we go things are coming along pretty nicely. Deal like SO. IE I guess I agree from the market's perspective I don't I like that interest rates are moving up here. I would argue that maybe there's a little bit more inflation happening in this economy then we're willing to admit. Didn't CPI numbers aren't necessarily reflecting it but. I think there's a lot of pent up demand for higher interest rates at this point I understand there's a lot of pressure on them to keep him down. But it's. That states getting 2% on your CDs. Ten years after the financial crisis that certainly is true but sick about where you think this kind of secret inflation is lurking. Well I think a lot of it has. Come in the way of health care costs that don't get measured very well. With the government's stated inflation. And you're getting that offset by the price of oil which has come down. To a more reasonable levels not seen inflation from that sector which could move and spiked pretty quickly. Grocery business in grocery seemed to be increasing pretty significantly. So a bit mainly having its tone from health care and that's pretty tough to measure for the Fed and for anybody else to. Over the fire festival call on story hug and it wasn't Gergen ago. Billy McFarland is serving a six year sentence for for fraud that I've asked Peter have you seen it either of these documentaries on Netflix and Hulu. It's sort of like worse than patriot would stack. Word yeah it was lights if it was just a total. Fought total ass show yeah he's completely. American actions they've worked here yet we all our tock. The Hulu and Netflix have being or they're trying to subpoena those two companies they're kind of grasping at straws here bunch of people loaned money to this bill McFarland kid who's now serving time in prison and a and get their money back obviously the whole thing was a fraud and flop. So they're going after Hulu and Netflix trying to figure out if need be any of the money that they need often does documentaries. Can possibly get attached to the bankruptcy proceedings which ha. They're basically arguing that need be. The footage that was used footage that was used potentially that was under some agreements to be sold to news to my. I news agencies rather than just getting it for free basically the problem that this bankruptcy. Lawyers dealing with is there's no records. Where there's no documents telling you like who had a right to be there who didn't. How did Netflix gain access to this facility and the rates take all of us Nicholas films so grasping at straw a little bit here but. Netflix and Hulu might be appearing in court yet and those are you don't know what fire festival was it was like what two years ago was on the Malia. So who's this highly marketed highly anticipated event in dot com yes in this guy billing fraud bought an island. And news. One of more hyped events multi multiple ways out of and wary you show up on you know playing and yeah you have a luxury tent with five course meals right you know made by celebrity chefs and people showed up and there were like a lot of celebrities were tied to us and people pushed thousands of people showed up. And there was nothing. There pretty mortified days. Pieces of bread lettuce on write fan tent that hadn't been set up for you. Corn dogs from the 7-Eleven world don't know there was even worse orthodox it was in a corn dogs it was so bad news if you haven't seen it on balls. On Hulu and Netflix highly recommends an hour and a half watched the best part is kind of happened to Richard fish. I'll point out network turtle right so is it's so easy to not pity for the deep and updated of people that showed up to this event and spray thousands of dollars line down this fire festival pretty funny yeah. We're take quick break coming back up The National Enquirer has it reached a deal to be sold and sleep number kidding absolutely horrible yesterday.
