I mean. This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and sharks are now. You're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and sharks done us. Well it's the first Friday of April and you know what that means it is eight jobs. Friday and so we've got a whole bunch of jobs data begin to on top of that we got parking fees potentially going up in Boston. We've got US China trade negotiations. An update on the Boeing 737 Max and potentially in other software issues there. And also we're going to be talking about. How the next year's gonna try to stay in business. Be on just this year talks ultimately what preliminary on what Matt did a phenomenal job yesterday without you talk a day it's I'm not saying that you've been Wally Pip but the approach that watch out man rather it was Gary in the house yes. Matt Matt was real smooth yesterday Matt Matt you know if you're not familiar with the minute any of our listeners he he's our back up producer. And for whatever reason whenever he's in some random tech problem that has nothing to do with him tends to happen next year and he like he gets all the weird stuff that doesn't happen and why you know whereas the there was you know Tucker's doing a couple things we'll Heatley is a tough there's chaos appetizer that was although the thing that can't directly get. Were directly related got to watch my back you know exactly like us but no just stay with real smooth real good but we're happy to have talkback here today we got Chris in as well so. Let's start digging into wuss and jobs numbers here Chris. Lot of concern but I think a lot of people were just wondering. We had a a weaker than expected February where we saw a revised 33000 jobs created. And people wondering gee is that kind of a one month averaged there's there are new trend it's starting here and based on the data that we get today. Good but not great jobs report but it seems to be a one month trend with a bounce back to north of a 196000. Jobs creed Sosa. Early better than the original 20000 and and they bump that up to the 33 yes so now we're in I a decent territory here 196 now. What is it soft spot is it a little bit of weakness. I think it's too early to tell I think we get a look at this thing and see what happens in the next couple months here NC a spring goes. Certainly it would have been devastating had is gone or it's because you can barely go backwards any further than last month. So to get up to a home while approaching 200000. I think it's encouraging. But certainly not the end all as we have a long way to go here to get back to the numbers that we need to get to the feel really good about this economy now. And the day. You know blue collar jobs have been down that certainly has affected paying him in action construction. But you know on the street you know me you know I'm dealing with construction an idea with a lot of constructive people a lot of developers yeah I'm telling your life. There feeling awfully good and I say that feeling awfully good because of what they're doing practice because they're talking the talk in the building. Yahweh had dinner at the other day with a with a developer over and in Wellesley building like crazy has been these evident. Another developer and Sharon weighed in with that same night again. 20300 units condos going in in feeling really good about their next project. No not sitting on their hands but really looking at the next opportunity. Yesterday at lunch with a knowledgeable yeah thousand units going up and self Bosnian. Again those are big projects that he's not small to interact in nobody saying allow him are we gonna kick the tires ultimately this little bit no they're all end. They're trying to get you know some of the governance and some of the permits. On page are on speed of what they want to do that projects within driving through the seaport. And eight. It's a great news isn't final enough kinds. Any day it's it's it's just it would have been the one area that I look to in this that it you know with the headline numbers are tracking and prosecuted and that is cause for concern at. Couple little areas and and again beat these are big areas but things you mentioned bear watching. Number one for nineteen months in a row. We had seen job gains in manufacturing unionized for veterans stepped up Austin investors took it one month I'm not really concerned about but it's something where you look at you say. Hey there's been a slowdown over the last three months now we went from 171000 manufacturing jobs added. In January 1000 in February to 6000 lost in March so we get a three month downward trend there on manufacturing. I sit there and I say OK that's something that I just wanna file way you know for the future. Another piece here. A talk about this pretty much every month it seems like. But the the jobs report that we get from the government it's actually two surveys that are combined part of it. They survey businesses and say hey how many jobs did you land and part of it they survey households and say hey how many of you. Took new jobs how many of you have jobs that didn't previously right and the household survey. Now shows over the previous three months and again this is not the the one where there surveying businesses but the household survey shows a gain of only 50000 jobs total. Since the start of the year now and so that is something it's it's noisier data because it's you know you've got. You know north of a 120 million households in the United States. Right they can surveil 120 million people I've never been called for this you probably never be called for the sample yeah it's it's a relatively small sample but not exactly an exact science but it's something that you sit there and you say. There's something going on that they've just kind of bears watching there. Some good news wage growth year over year now up to 3.2 percent so you're seeing some pretty good numbers there in a lot of that wage growth as we've talked about so far this year. Happening at the lower end of the wage spectrum we talked on that it was either Wednesday or Thursday. About target raising its minimum wage to thirteen dollars you've got Wal-Mart now open eleven Amazon's a fifteen. For all their warehouse jobs so without the federal government saying hey you need to pay people more companies are saying. G the labor markets are tight we got to pay people. In the labor force participation is up again yeah and it's certainly not you know at nearly the numbers that it was pre recession. But again if it's steadily climbs. People who want to work are working. And and they're getting paid better so that's taken people off the sidelines because people who didn't wanna work. But while this jobs out there in the jobs paying better why not get off the sidelines so. Those are all things encouraging. Unemployment. Is continuing to be just you know almost historic lows it really is but. That's ahead mean that obviously has been an indicator AA indicated that lags behind. You know so it's not always new breakthroughs specifically look at that number. As you know. Previous you know this O seven and unemployment cuts annual pace historic lows. In the and in him we knew what. Yeah and an increase what are the questions heading into this that I think people work I'm making too much of a big deal about was you know. Did in the talk bit of this new of this unemployment report this jobs report is gonna determine whether or not we go into recession and the fact is born report never makes or breaks to begin with. But. And I think that what this confirms is that. Recession is not around the corner in the United States in net you know in the next six to nine months. Barring you know something dramatically shifting as far as the trade picture or. You know hard breaks or something like that right if the status quo was maintained as far as those big ticket items that are out there. While it seems like they're slowing growth in the US that's different from eight and a straight out recession write something the people have to keep in mind so. Good but not great job differently from greeting and out. Give it to be somewhere in the range that it's a solid grade yeah is considering that you know you would degrade last month. Probably yeah isn't the only ex Tennessee mind is somewhere in that range so I think anytime you have an opportunity to turn things around it was just so important you know to get this report in in the habit you'll be positive report. Because people are again there's a lot of trepidation and aspire is okay we feel good it. We don't feel great we feel cautiously optimistic so another negative report today. Certainly would have put us in that what I would call a certainly downward spiral. And really would put the heat and the pressure on the next couple spring months to get things back on track. Absolutely let's take a quick break here and when we come back we're to talk a little bit about the state of US China trade negotiations. Also we're gonna get a little bit closer to home. Talk about why you might be seeing higher parking fees in the city of Boston coming up soon or Philly and on that right after this. The only this stare at the charts graphs and numbers all day and just listen to us it's the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and chuck signed up on the financial exchange radio network. Unaffiliated I folks this is Mike Armstrong from the financial exchange I'm joined now by Jay to lease the founder of the ranch which is a free online rent collection tool for landlords and tenants. Yeah I I go back to the first apartment that I ever rented us there were five of us in this. It's terrible Somerville apartment. But we're all trying to coordinate our Renton it was a bit of NASA and kind of heinous. How does this all work on on the platform are you able to split out the rents and how does that really make the landlords like. A little easier. Sure Michael thanks so we created searing it's really ought to meaning simplify the whole range collection process for landlords and property managers. And what we do is we we basically if there's individual tenants will debit them individually and patched their payments together and send them to sports. So landlords love it whether it's you know a single unit landlord or more of a professional landlord and hundreds of units. They use this product. For the reporting the automated rent collection for that tenant. Rent splitting so it's it's been great. That's pretty nice you mentioned and most importantly it's completely freaked Terry get it offer for for yes so our strategy has been a little bit different we don't charge tenants and we don't charge him we do is we actually licenses through banks. Who then offer it to their landmark it's. And for being a client of that being too becomes a free service to both the way in the hours in the tents attacks at a number of different New England local bank set up port we do we have quite a few institutions are all available on the rent dot Nazis can go and see and always adding new institutions. Folks again the name of the service is you rent and you can get a lot more information by going to she rents dot net it is a completely free tool for both landlords and tenants. And once again there's a lot more information you can get to get signed up and start collecting your tenants rent online immediately he rents dot net or even give him a call. At 7816418691. So generally. I've tried to do refrain from talking about the US China trade negotiations as far as you know trying to get any sense of what's going on under the surface just because. All the reports we've had to this point of largely been second handlers you know. Wall Street Journal says well sources close to the administration say this and Bloomberg says sources close to the Chinese president say you know this. Yesterday we had a couple statements by. People pretty high up real. The highest people in both administrations pretty much the vice premier yet the president and the time then president of the US in the vice premier of China it's a pretty much number one in the US number two and China. Chiming in and both of them having pretty positive things to say at this point in particular. The president saying they will know in the next four weeks if we're going to be able to get a deal done suggesting. They were were not through yet but were kind of down to the final piece is at least. And president. The umps are the vice premier Lou heat saying quote that a new consensus. Has been reached on US China trade. So much posturing so much calling gamesmanship. As you know you talk about some of that is why you kind of steer clear reporting on it because reporting his body because there's so much gains and sit on each side. People floating things out don't you know trying to get their agenda out on the lap trying to get their agenda out on the right China's doing their thanks and well. No we're not quite there we are there. It seems to me though at the end of the day. Trump pass this at this meeting he has to set the date for the summit because if they can get Jiang over here. Then puts a lot of pressure kind of puts the ball back in his court puts the pressure on him to make a deal during this some. I think that's an incredible. Valuable tool if he can set the date get a commitment. And then get him here. Yeah it in what I'm particularly interested to see you again this is. I'm jumping a little bit ahead but in terms of you know actually getting a deal completed. What I'm very interest to deceive number one what kind of enforcement mechanisms do you have on said deal. And also what's the scheduled roll out of all these the different pieces happening because. You're probably not gonna get you know overnight implementation. And anything to beat these are big countries it takes a while to do anything there either of them. But I think the one thing I'm really interest to see a lot of the chatter that we had back in the fall was that China was looking. That kind of back load this deal with a lot of the provision saying hey. We're gonna aim for implementation on these by 20/20 42025. And so forth and so. What when I look at how the Chinese Government historically has negotiated on things like this. That's kind of what they've done that a few years there's say well the world's changed the situations changed a little bit and we need to revisit this and maybe tweak a couple things so. She talked about the an intellectual. Property protection. That's at least seems to be the biggest sticking point. I'm sure the other is that as a book him manifesto of different. You know agreements but to me it's gonna come down to a couple really simple points that they can either figure out some happy medium some some common ground. Or they won't be able to do it. There has to be. You a line you know the buck stops here yeah for the press yeah I mean they're just Cassidy where he can not afford to be even a little bit flexible. So what that said. You know what that when they roll it out I mean this is something that's going to happen over the course of I would say half a decade. At least I was guessing at least five years of mean right you can't give it that quickly on some of these items. What I find what I'm still really interest to see is you know trade negotiations usually you've got you trade representatives from each country that are involved. I find it interest in that you've had the Treasury Secretary involved in this the whole time you know you look at what the US treasury does writes it it it's its borrowing and finance in the country and things like that. That's usually someone you send trade negotiations so. I know that historically. The US president trump in particular has been near critical China for what it's done in the currency markets. And so I wonder if there is a currency component to this that we're kind of get a C after the fact where. Pay that there's a shift that's happening out from that perspective. Did a lot of people might not be your kind of Reading in. Check out interest and strategy itself that's not really right I think gasoline right it's not somebody would expect you to be at the forefront of the negotiation on this. Again. You know listen if you can if he can set this summit. And I just think this is so important to actually gave him you know presidency on QUS territory on US soil and Emmys in. It's almost like if we can get him here now he's really committed as well. Right you know it's right what what's your bare you don't really want to walk away without a deal a 100% yeah I wanna make sure that this thing comes to fruition. So that to me is as important as anything as they both both sat continue to really cannot dance around. You know but again the longer it goes and can't go too long because you do not wanna get into the political cycle he did not wanna get into those election years. I think that's a fact it has to be. I almost wonder so I thought that until two weeks ago OK. And what made me change my mind and what made me think that the president actually could hold out for a better deal for the US it is the fact that the more report when we got the summary from the attorney general. The summer pretty would say hey there's there's not really much here. And as a result the president kind of got a win where he hadn't had one in a while and part of me looks this from a political perspective in and says. Look this is a president who back in 2016 ran on being tough on China tough on trade and so forth right. I could almost see a password he says look I'm gonna try to win by being so tough on China that hey maybe you maybe add rather hold out and try to get a deal. That is is BO stronger as opposed to taking the one on the table as he now has a windy in the short term. So I say this I see he can't afford to or or leave it to chance and that's what he'd be doing it yet if he would be let this go yeah. Why leave it to chance if your president truck you feel pretty good about where the economy is the economy has been robust. Then it has been able to carry itself through a couple soft weaker period yet whether the milk couple weeks or month. Why play don't even out I don't have correct yeah I. I I get that it's in this is why it's so hard to figure out where this negotiations can and because. It's all about trying to get inside the heads of wonder to Pete that's right you know it's it's you it's not trying to predict how a million people are gonna behave because of groups are typically easier to predict and individuals so. At this point it seems like we're getting some positive news but. Still a little bit hard to tell us because there's so much posturing that's still going on hard to believe what you hear what you read at this point. So when until they get you know physically geographically closer together. I think than in the news Israeli donors because we don't think really have any real news at this point. Took a little bit about parking prices in the city of Boston they were last raised a city wide back in 2000 ninths of a decade ago. The minimum citywide fear right now is a dollar 25 an hour in the city of Boston which is pretty good that solid which is pretty affordable. The mayor Marty Walsh is proposing a rate hike to at least two dollars an hour for all of the 8000 meters in the city. But in certain parts of the city it would be higher than that for example and the up and wait ten more areas and also the bull finch triangle area neared TD garden. You go up to fifteen hour. In back being the seaport district obviously two areas that you seaport in particular hard to get their other than by Carmen you got a silver line but not much else it would go to 375. In. Howard there that's it I'm checked out the most importantly no more seaport I had done recently I don't I that's like 10% of Marguerite January down and you know. Which I need that money for the monitor exactly what kind of suck that out might announce you've seen prices that high you need to drink even more you know it's a cycle you know. Apparently I'm gonna have happened artery that's all I can report with that the recent and but listen I parked down in the city routinely all the yeah an. To me it's a great as bargain. That's out there in the city of Boston to it has been apart it's it's amaze me chief met back over at the true. It's a little more expensive than it is today. Up by a boils. Okay yeah Atlanta there there are some different rates out they're not really sure how that that that effects are why there are different rates we are definitely some different rates out there. But I part you know was in the city yesterday over by the colony you know twenty. For an hour you know. 252. Hours so I wouldn't be enacting its. Absurdly well. I think the city would probably do himself some neighbors if they did boosted up but I think 375. Not that that's a big number but I think it's a big jump. From buck and a quarter it is we'll talk a little bit more this after the break revolves goat Wall Street watts coming up in just a little bit. Like there's something. What was on Twitter. Oil continues to rally as well now to 6251. A barrels of higher gas prices are coming unfortunately. Gold pretty much flat at 1294. An ounce continue US treasury just ticked under. 215 now at 2.4 9%. Not at the moment on the sector by sector basis your biggest winners today so far energy and healthcare early in the way both up almost 1%. Lags you're laggards today financials and Telecom. Both pretty much flat so every sector. Pretty much in positive territory. But a couple just kind of lagging a little bit right now. Big winners on the day as far as individual names. Align Technology up 4% Apache up three point eight. Big losers today Intel down one and a half. And Ford down about 1%. In that is Wall Street watch presented by leader bank. Chris talk a little bit more just about that the parking issue that we were chat non prior to the break. In terms of city Boston looking to raise parking rates. Anywhere from if my math is right anywhere from about 60% to. 200%. So they've get some big increase is coming. You mention that you drive in the Boston an awful lot and in that somehow in part on the street. Have you noticed aid measurable change in traffic over the last five years. Talk of course but I don't think it has anything do with parking you think that's over and lift a deal I think that's certainly a huge factor. And understand mr. that now we have bicycle lanes on the road pick of the I wouldn't do it. Mean really Dick kinda day like kinda I look I just think about this just think about how many people and I'm not saying it's right. But how many people are distracted. By the phones. They're not necessarily. Ending to the road or. In India especially if you're driving you're not necessarily paying attention to a smaller BO biker vehicle or something like that what I do like in some parts of the city. They're putting in the bike lanes that are at least separated by like a curb or something so you're not in the middle of the road you've got like a little barrier in there anyway I do make a lot of sense. But the ones where you're on the road on the big proponent of more people using bikes because it helps alleviate congestion. You know you don't have the pollution from cars and things like that. But the way the city of Boston is putting a lot of the bike lanes initially. It image you see like every day there's people being rushed to the hospital seems like the 'cause. You know someone's not paying attention and oh I open a door right of the bike lane or elect turn into the bike lane and don't look as I don't realize someone's there. You know it's just it. Boston drivers are not good when it comes to respecting bikes but to be fair I see a lot of a lot of people who are cyclists who also do some dumb things too that we can some responsibility there too where you're someone's like in the wrong way down a one way street. In their dear yellen and a car and it's like well you're supposed to drive the same way as the cars man that is that this kind of a you problem not a meat problem in that case. As a signal when you turn right so a state that the bike lane take over and live. And now the roads are obviously smaller you the road the road space that you actually have the drive on it's now crunch squeeze being. So all those factors factor in too you know more congestion more traffic now this eight. How is it meters over the city which really isn't that many. So if you're going to actively look for in leaders spot which I do quite frequently Alon yeah domino rush. Now you're going slow here because you're actively looking for spots and you're causing more congestion. But the thing that you know I would gonna raise fees and that's gonna. Alleviate congestion not likely but it will raise some more money. And for the money has to be spent not so much on. Yeah they're they're talking about doing some you know some whining and some other things to me it's a 100% pot holes right pot holed up. You stick it on find money for paint for a line somewhere else you would have hopes that there's got to be another item in the budget where you can find peaked fur lines but it's the other thing it's going to be happening here. In this proposal if it is if it goes into effect. The hotel tax it's currently in place would rise from 6% to six and a half percent. And so that would be some additional. Money that ends of coming into. City coffers as well so. This proposal still kind of not on the drawing board but starting to make its way through the legislature for the city. To check the hotel tax. It probably makes sense because you just look at all the buildings going up the mean is that a yeah went by the new moxie apparently on fire you did to Rihanna was a little fire over the I didn't hear that as acting goes up lower in the theater district. But there there are so many. Construction projects with new hotels arson the four seasons is going up. The city. In my estimation can certainly carry a little ball up in the hotel out of it and of course that's going to be passed on to. No the customer. But that's the way I tend to look at it look those are people from here anyways correcting not from here and a real to me that browser know that they're fake people they don't like. OK you know and here's the thing. The city of Boston we've known for awhile has a hotel room shortage kept given that that's the case you can find any you know I can have any trouble filling these rules this is also I am going up by half a percent but it won't be a problem. Some exciting news for travelers. Starting today you have non stop flights kicking off between Boston in Hawaii for the first time. This is going to be the longest who in truck country entry US flight in history on eleven hours and 25 minutes from Boston Honolulu serviced by Hawaii and airlines. Gained. I've been Hawaii once I went. I don't know maybe I think seven or eight years ago. And the way that I had to go was he connector San Francisco suits you at six and a half hour flight to San Francisco and another seven hours down I think most people go to San Fran our LA yes Gloria all told right now it's probably a fourteen to sixteen hour total travel time when you factor in the layover. So this does shave about five against three to five hours off that which is great. This is a long haul so you know the Utley. Eleven hours on planes along. Time s.'s. You know I've I've done that a couple times and did you get off the plane you kindly. Weird and Emma what's going on. But I do think this makes it used so many people who just like to fly direct. That I think this is going to have a beat impacted making Hawaii more accessible for Boston based travelers Boston right now. Until this point was the largest US travel market the did not nonstop service to want. Which is amazing because we do travel so much antennae on the plane and load in. It's considerably busier than some of the other markets if you apply to a pick a layover now I just can't get fired up about it it just can't. Wrap myself around economic chasm of July check. Either 010. OK that because at end too far end of the day yes you know what if I wanna go to the beach I'm gonna go three and a half hours out of the Caribbean. What and that's what it seems like in general where look if you're on the West Coast you wanna go to will be two different deal GAAP Hawaii's kind of where you go. If you're on the East Coast you got the Carolinas Florida the Caribbean there's a whole bunch of places you can go on an option without having to change time zones that are a lot more accessible. And so what I've been uninteresting. Only 50000 people a year flew from Boston to Hawaii. In 2017. As though not not as I can you know that's again goes on Tuesday accessibility. Now is just access yet I don't think you can see a million people a year flying to Hawaii. But I could see an increase from you know 506050. To simulate you can still see a twenty to 30% increase as a result of this. But that still is gonna be relatively small number fly. Of course because in the prices that still prohibitive as well I mean it's not a 300 dollar flight to get to Hawaii no I mean that's a considerable investment. But to meet the more exciting thing you know as we look at Boston to Hawaii is an adult that has stepped up their game in Boston yeah you know I start declined I mean I was always a jetBlue to Florida near alma adult the guy to Florida. And to me there's going to be considerably more options you know coming out of terminal any and I think that's great for travels Abbas. Yeah that the big thing is. You know Logan. Cookies it's been this way for a little while now. It's getting to the point where it start to get maxed out you know there's been a lot of chatter I think in particular. On expanding terminal. Which is kind of in the next thing if you wanna take Boston that next level as far as you know being able to attract international businesses you need more international travel capacity direct out of Boston so I think that's something. It's kind of on the board but you know there's been a lot of chatter about a we still need a new runway but. Good luck getting that done any time soon. I think that's been put my folks and he's Boston winter time I'm playing ball there I think that's been on the drawing board for the last you know twenty years now we're still kind of wait and there so which certainly is a problem for international flights because a lot of those flights leave late at night yeah. And you know there's just a lot of restrictions going into that with the neighbors and well it's gotten better it has better because the planes are quieter. Well in and I remember I think was two years ago when they were resurfacing one of the runways. They all these different flight pattern so everyone who was in you know Milton and Quincy had planes coming overhead in this they're going. Oh now we understand how the people in East Boston in the week we get it now because it was every two minutes you've got another one coming through on the pretty busy I don't know you don't there have been over the Graham makes it pretty busy over the it's cranky traffic notes it's crank and quick break here when we come back and update on the Boeing. Issue with the 737 Max and also. What the heck is Sears up to global billion on how they're trying to stay alive. It sends stuff to talk to. It's our daily poll question had financial exchange showed Doug John. Vote your conscience there aren't just vote. Go to financial exchange oh does come and test away. A person looks like we're getting closer to a resolution. For the Boeing 737. Max bone apparently. Identifying. A second software issues that they need to fix. That is un related to the like control flaw that I guess. Was implicated in the crash of the two. Recent claims it has a mess now really there disaster nobody. While reporting the information properly and has been many gaps in how they train the U the pilots and really if I'm a family member of I'm pretty upset obviously you know that just because of the obviously the tragedy but obviously because they feel like these things that should have been handled should have been avoided. And I get the CEO you know he's he's he's basically admitting guilt a little surprised. Eighties. Really now and in that top position I don't know how you recover. It wasn't one it was true. I don't know how you recover if you're the CEO of Boeing how you continue to do business going forward mean obviously the lawsuit will be heavy will be significant. But again it certainly brings in the call question you know some leadership. Yeah an instant it to give it would just a little bit history on the the Boeing 737 Max disease. It really is the context that you know deep in that allows us to figure out how we got to this point. Back in 2006 Boeing started trying to figure out a replacement for the 737. And what happened. Was that in 2010. The major competitor to Boeing Airbus. Came out with a refresh of their eight week 8320 series. The planes called 320 neo neo standards for new engine options so trying to just improve fuel efficiency and things like that. About a year later. I'm sorry about three months later the Boeing CEO who at the time Jim mom McNerney. Said hey we're gonna do a completely new airplane. But. A little bit after that you saw Bowen hit it pretty quickly by August of that year. Bone says hey we're not doing anywhere point as we don't think we can get it on board you know get drawn up quickly enough. To compete with the Airbus refresh. And so Boeing said hate. August 2011 yep we're going ahead with a new new refresh of the 737 instead. And that was approved. And ready to go that was all through FAA certification. By the end of 26. Team. And so you know you had this case where. Boeing was doing this because they needed a competitor for Pia the new Airbus A 320. And they didn't think they can do a clean sheet designing get approval quickly enough. And so they said hey we gotta get had BO it's cram as much stuff into the 737 chassis as we can. In as a result you ended up with this claim that has a number of problems. That you know they've had to put these systems and to try to correct but the problem is. When they solved one of the issues created by the redesign they created a new problem with the system. Yeah really a tough position. For them more than CEO millinery is put them in. Because obviously felt the pressure they need to compete with the Airbus that's really the only real direct yeah added. They were taken orders like crazy. You know and and a lot of orders being the the Airbus. So I get why it happened but understand that the stakes are just so big. And now they've become a so. That to many is a fatal move as the CEO it's it's the kind of thing where again when I know he's the president's guy. Right I mean he's got a healthy really Supertramp. And I understand why you know he dragged the speed on. You're putting the ban on the stopping at December 37 Max from lying in the US were kind of the last it to go that route up. So now I mean now they're everywhere now there's this is a huge round I think it was at this the Norstrom mall I think I saw a couple 730 sevens parked in the real world earlier put up. Yet it's you've got in particular I think southwest has like thirty or forty these round exit they're saying look we can't fly him right now so you can't how is it's not like yeah housing area. Yeah you're you're you're VW bug that he EU you can't just put him in an air like there's you need a whole bunch of space to store all of those planes so. It's an ongoing problem for Boeing they're getting closer but again discovering some new problems is they try to. Make fixes. This is the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and jokes are. You're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day you're sick leave your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day it's. And now the financial exchange we have Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. We got a jobs Friday here on the financial exchange the government jobs report came out this morning. 8:30 in the morning. And it showed a hundred. In 96000. Jobs created or the month of march. The month of February saw it the number revised up from 20033000. And so we're here to dig into all of those details chucked out of here Chris Collins in filling in for bear we get Tucker back behind the board after. Matt filled in admirably yesterday. And coming up in about ten minutes. I'm doing an early tees here talker. We we we get trivia current predicament I always his duties so I'm on I'm doing it now right off the bat some pictures to ground to get tribute coming up in about ten minutes or given away fifty dollar gas card. Of you're choosing but they tell me Friday tree is the minister in the week. Easily this time it was gross writes I'm close presenting its the only trivia the week. And yet here that makes it the best here's the thing that I looked up the definition for trivial ones just because I I was curious of the cable what is what we confused with the the word. It was when I don't awards this. The definition deet tails considerations are pieces of information of little importance valley continues in a sentence. This trivia question is going to be great a debt but he's here's where I was going with this. The question that I ask when I choose what to do for tribute race. They have the most my new amount of importance at any question that could be asked asked they are. That I didn't get in there. They are big our trivia even amongst other trivia question right it is amazing how reveal these questions can be so we've got that in ten minutes but it's amazing that you broke downward treaty has brawl. Really we got our hands. Anticipating this. Hey. Won't this this all white people it's and it's through these these moments that. So the jobs report overall you know get a 196000. Jobs created. You did see some slowing and a couple areas manufacturing saw its first job loss in twenty and so that's you know a little bit disappointing on on that front there. You also saw in particular. Construction jobs bouncing back actually after a week February. Construction so a 25000. Job losses in February 161000 jobs dean in March accounting getting back attic. After he weaker than expected February. Wage growth remains north 3% year over year so you've got good news there. And all the knowledge stayed solid but not spectacular. Report that we got while we needed so. Five we government shut down all kind of factor and so the question is you know was February purely an anomaly. Or was that a sign of things to come so I think these next few months to sprint outs are so important. To continue the that the positive growth that happen again. It wasn't funny thousand or 33000 as the than the next number that came out. It wasn't quite 200000. But it certainly was a big step up from the previous month and that's huge you know when construction is acting and I am just do in the eye test and people line now and people idea with in the financial market. We're developers. Contractors. They are as optimistic. As they have been in a long long time. You know minority guy and Wellesley building and the five yeah project active in building an actively seeking more projects. The city is crazy I went to the city yesterday as we know what's going on with the C pointers as cranes everywhere. Another dip person I do business with 3000 units this LP they are forging ahead. To get these projects done yet really slow pace they want the city in the permanent process to catch up with them as half full speed ahead so. I do the eye test when I deal with some of the people that I deal with the construction and manufacturing. They are fairly optimistic that this thing is going to continue but again. It's only Q1 2000. We need to get you know a little bit more appeal for everybody feel a bit better. We got a question that came in this one from 50 wait regarding manufacturing jobs. The question is this country's double Lotta factory jobs we are are all the factories. And so I've pulled the data from the National Association of Manufacturers. And here is the breakdown just in terms of this states in the percentage of their population. That is in point in manufacturing. The lowest. States as far as near the bottom five states for manufacturing. Hawaii Wyoming Nevada New Mexico and Maryland all 4% or below. So less than 4% of the populations in those states work in manufacturing. The highest percentage states and Chris you're taking guests. So up I think about it I would think somewhere in the midwest. You state ballots a state of say Nebraska. Nebraska is just outside the top five okay. It's it's close yeah. I'll I'll cut to the chase. Indiana Wisconsin tied for the high sixteen point 3% of their population there as manufacturing image in the midwest that's what they do here's some more midwest for Iowa Michigan or the next juicy you Buehrle were. Right around him. And we and it's in the midwest you got one from the southeast Alabama. Not thirteen point 1% on auto makers moving plants down there in the last few decades say he's gonna he's plant down couple big ones Mercedes BMW believed Toyota's got a big one in Tennessee. Seattle whole bunch of big plants down in those areas as well and it makes sense obviously because the land is cheaper you can go for miles and miles I mean we got to the day here in Massachusetts yet because it if you can have a hard time you know just fine in the space and also finding workers cost effectively as well. As a result. Some news out yesterday for mr. Jeff Bezos. Bezos who Theo kind of bounces between being the richest in second richest person on the planet. It looks like he's going to be paying IDC get mama chunk of his. Amazon shares as a result of the divorce settlement. Now that he is going through it appears that his wife. Is going to end up taking about a quarter of a plateau and Amazon shares meaning that she's gonna become a 4% stakeholder in Amazon. Jeff Bezos can retain about 12% of the company when it's all said and done here. And in other independent news about this it also looks like god Jeff Bezos is going to retain. All of his Washington Post stakes though. McKinsey guys of not getting any shares of the Washington Post he's also retain all his blue origin stakes blue origin a for not familiar with them. They are the rocket companies that is competing with that you on mosques space X and Richard Branson's. Virgin was a virgin galactic I think you guys. Two was to start pairing people and hours. Solicit be jumps right up there whether it's his woman in the world so if you're interested this is trying to be good opportunity. To dive in. Because you are her you'd better be flying commercial again you hooked up with she's still so a quarter of you know the whole state is 35 billion dollars. Which leads Jeff Bezos with a cool 105 billion dollar like these guys you give up 25% of your networks. And you still have a 105 billion dollars. If you know the right answer or want to guess at the right answer you Texas at 63566. Today we're gonna do the seventh person with the right answer is going to get a fifty dollar gas card so again if you're the seventh person text in the right answer. You get a fifty dollar gas card now. Fridays we typically do well trivia based on action movies. Chris you have been here for one of these I certainly have not but boy I've been anticipating this for a long long time so I have a a really be glove of bad ninety's action OK even good ones like that just like little like a passenger 57. The exactly like staying on these B die hard twister the rock. Con air Armageddon. For itself arrived. Executive decision you know that those that the ones that are always on the you know USA you're Tia understands them and under Sandra as a Jew. You know all those types of authenticity true Adam. So last week or last week we did bad boys two which. Might actually be my favorite action movie of all time to sit up there at Trump's bad boys one. I think it's sick it's one of the rare ones were the second is actually worse but better than the first 'cause it's work that was Will Smith too and mine warrants. Both of them and they got the third one coming out at least next January 17 not that I know but if it's somewhere right around that will you be at the red carpet for the opening of that Zoete my my best friend from college and I we've actually we've already taken the day off from work both laws like ought. But bad boys you know that place very. Believe you're probably the only person in the country willing to deal if you play movies that night track race you know but it didn't get off of work here that think talks over here's what we're trying to figure out due to work we're trying to figure out if we wanna try to go to the premiere out and LA yourself in that I was thinking for someone has committed as you or do we go down to Miami where the movies are based in go try to see it down there. I go to LA. So this is this is what we're juggling and again this is kind of a priority for me in my life so if you're taking it day on I would assume that day out in the opening yet you're gonna see the ones. No so we're gonna do the first two movies. Kind of as a lead rockets haven't seen I haven't seen him enough you need to refresh exactly so it's if you don't want to miss anything on the read because you know you're illiquid and my latest wells' new seven hours of bad boys and a little or are gone. A bad boys once he went to get a bit of a problem. Very very problem. But sort trivia question today we're going to be doing it based on the movie con air and our classic starring Nicolas Cage. It came out 22 years in two months ago today and I don't believe that's about the last movie he's. No he did some really bad ones after that but it's a really bad when it gets cut is a B movie. So these accidents and he know he. I don't know and there was like national treasure. A huge yet you build a national treasures but he did he get a few that we're following out malveaux back in the David classic valley. And as Alan remembered psychiatric Google accidentally as on that he had had a BAT's valeo decades but you don't remember the face off you'll remember ghost writer a half. Hours now. It was. Like it doesn't even make I can't even watch it was that bad it was just not good at all but. We're doing trivia based on con air today and here is the trivia question. What is the type of plane. That he's flown. To transport the convicts Ian con air so we're looking for the manufacturer. And the the number of the plane. What is the type of plane used to fly the convicts in the movie on there now I've seen it mean who wants them along with the coast it was that. Who Steve Buscemi was and it was John Cusack John. You use the FBI. US Marshal or whoever it a lot of money yet they are kind of in that same boat you know as far as like the extent Barack casually rat pack. Yeah exactly so. What was the type of player used to fly the convicts in the movie Connie or text is at 63566. We'll have the answer after the next Parikh. You'll mosque was in court yesterday. And the federal judge Alison eight then. Effectively said. Hey. You guys have to figure this out on your own we don't want eco and back to court American answer this for you since she gave the SE CU on most two weeks to try to figure out. What to do here he can spoke in the band. Mean this can't help themselves doesn't mean he's just like he's very truck passed and it gets to a certain X densely. You know you one's kind of a creative guy he's gotten where he's we have gotten to based on kind of not doing things conventionally in breaking the rules. But it's. You know I just wonder if you maybe taking a little too far with the SEC in that they kind of have the authority to decide whether or not you can be in the position that your and we. Your company like he's making promises he can't see yes and that's obviously a huge problem for the company its hole but again. The SEC's on the on the take so much he may be agreement that's why it's an agreement because he agreed to. He is gonna stop the crap on Twitter. And that it between did he was going to get approval because some of the things he was quitting we're just not represented a company they were they were dead rotten to lives. We we've asked the question to our listeners yesterday do you think you on mosque is still the CEO of Tesla six months from now what are your thought out thanks. Daryn I had the same I think where. I headed down that that rabbit hole and he is not coming back from this as far as you know running Tesla. In the end the only way he could turn things around in this no indicator that says he is going to turn things around is to deliver the product that the cars that he promised. And he hasn't done. You're not not nearly the job that he needs to do as far as you're breaking into the lower end market with the nearly the numbers which was initially 500000 is gonna deliver and he dialed it back it was 400000 he's gonna make that play. Noah now Tesla came out and I think they they miss their deliveries in the first quarter by about 20%. And they also guided hey it might be 360 to 400000 so they're continuing to kind of lowered guidance as they go. Eventually investors get fed up and say. Look like you you've made enough promises now yup deliver. And the problem is this he's put a big bull's eye on his back and he's been buying heavily. You know multiple times. Any hasn't delivered so now the stock is finally took a long time Nazi for the stock to really kind of deal. The mosque affect which hasn't been a good effect but now it's starting to go in and in a negative direction so at some point right. You're not did with the board the stockholders happy get together and say listen. The buck stops here we cannot continue to go down this this rabbit hole as he continues to put us in the position that is not favorable to the company. I think that the big thing though is. The board is largely stacked with people who are bodies of you on mosque again you know so it's quickly which is. Did you are a real good reason why he's been able to console line right so you know like kinda look at this it's like. The governance at Tesla leaves a lot to be desired if you are a shareholder. Even in the company. Snap has seen their stock price almost double so far this year it's up today and 1181. Up additional four point 7%. It opened trading easier at 579 to it now has doubled over the course this year. Is this a case of snapped doing something right Christie at thinker do you think it's more. They were just so oversold because of how bad things were last yellow filled. You know it's still down point 3% over the last year right so they get along way to go. They're pretty optimistic obviously because they had that big jump up via a double but again. They doing some different things I think it has to do with them doing some different things you beginning to gaming which is always Ali's a slippery slope. Because. Everybody wants to get a piece of the fort night pie. But everyone can't do it right in gamer happy Easter very ephemeral you know the change based on the you know one dates fort night the next year owe them actively you know farm bill on FaceBook or something which makes it extremely delicate very tricky asked Curt Schilling. According effectively break into that market Newton but you know they they got a new app coming out what's it gonna roll out on the android in. In the interim really dominates outside the US so that re design I think is what is caught everybody's attention and has people optimistic on you know now the company is going in the little bit of a different direction. But certainly with the new rap. Could really makes him some some major strides it now it's fallen quite heavily US or checkers again but I barely use. I asked I probably had a fairly easily a year in hand and I brought you up for a little while but they'd just. I just I don't know I grew out of it or what but just can't really get into it. According to take a break now when we come back we've got the trivia answer and also included talk about alcohol. The financial exchange is alive on FaceBook so make sure to like your page and watched the guys break down the latest on the market every day beginning at ten on the financial exchange radio network. Home here in new England and he might have police in Florida. Taught what a question that comes up quite often is. What are the implications. Of transferring your home to your kids in order to protect it from the nursing home yeah that's one of the worst things you can do makes my teeth which line really bad because. One you've given up control over your home front doors anymore at and that's not a comfortable feeling if my client I heard a live there. Two if you wanna sell you can't it's not yours if you do seller where's all the money go to the kids. Never mind all that there's a huge tax implication that comes from this if your kids are great kids right. If you bought your house you don't usually go thirty years ago you probably paid a little for now it's worth a lot. Right and you give it to my touchpad sale was tax free when soma house's tax free except it's not yours you gave it your children this example and that's the problem. And then you give them your basis. And if you give them your cost basis all that built in gain. Is gonna be taxed to the children so that's the tax problem you don't get that tax free sale when you immediately to your kids you don't that's a big bite. So I mean right there if you have given it to them now now even if they agreed to sell they got to pay the acts that you don't have the money you hope they give it back to you and then there's just tax. Two road the the main owner of corona Constellation Brands. Sell off that thirty brands of wind yesterday as they are moving a little bit different direction Chris in north that is. Colonials colonials don't tree line it seems like in the again this is just anecdotal but it is I just see kind of what my friends are drinking yet. You know obviously the craft beer gets a lot of noise but. Craft spirits are also making a lot of blows these days to any of your roms you with skis and things like that it seems like there's a lot of that it's popping up as well. But I'll tell you which adjusting. My wife and all her friends. Weinrich a boatload one lake what is the boatload I don't think boat and I have some friends to drink wine to sort of surprises me that there itself off yet well. Across the board why sales are down and down for quite some time and it was explained to me in in great detail. And the president united liquors. That the millennial stressful they don't drink it's dated don't do it false. I'll tell you curtail offensive it I don't drink like we used to drink. And then took mystery right now you just can't tell and get a bloody Rainer worry it'll actually think US yesterday but could I can get him out of bed immunized so. For corona if you look at where they're doing their business they added a couple new brands they would act corona premium which actually drink some of that. Oh it's it's very similar to corona light. So using EC with the aid of shifting yet they're like all right let's just keep adding low can now all. Low car but you know carve his everywhere yet so you can have enough low carb products I mean little bud is advertising right now in now. The whole if yup cards and everything yellow lights all of that to everything. What what I wonder about the the the brands that constellations aloft here a lot of the little work and wine brands they kept a lot of their higher end ones. In I wonder if that's just kind of did the different tastes that maybe Malia wine drinkers who have. Maybe they go a little bit more up market kind of like you know craft beer and stuff like that president hydrant and Boone's farm. The brits now it has no prude I'm no matter conduct when he won at ya know funny man is how it. Well you're apparently not doing that college anymore. You know what what is going on my college campus is happy anything we get our hands on at the time they need and you know snow walked he's asked the I don't have to go push for us intelligence keystone light out stolen go to anyway it was eleven dollars for a thirty pack. Game change and we were crossed it off topic Europe possibly afford to drink again. You you couldn't withdraw those prices you know you couldn't. Dot com Tucker I heard you a little bit over the deaths are beginning to text out of out of the semi one it is readable on the air yeah idea this is for the very loyal listeners that the show. Taxed out of 71 little known trivia the pilot and caught there was actually work for headsets. So it's a long story short Chris Barry was convinced that his headphones. Were four he told us he bought these great Thorpe had phone right which don't exist in there is no brand of headphones are a Barry's. Yeah yes it's an excellent running inside joke now or Thorpe is that with a TC HO RP and thought it was just here's the figures or that typically can't you click on he's like no you're cool going wrong it's Thorpe with the EU got to put it yet again like that was the don't know when that come out that if you're gonna come up otherwise. There they got the search and now know the these this newfangled technology. Know they don't exist there is ours that the book with a noise canceling. I think he said they work. You thank you very there was a whole thing going on there so we had this study that was done in this the headline major study debunks myths that moderate drinking can be healthy. Soon Tucker biggest. Not not great man. And accurate for anybody now so this used data from home and. 60000. People was a study of Chinese adults. Most of whom many of whom were on a unable to drink alcohol due to genetic intolerance and and pretty much what they found is that people who do drink moderately. Still raised their rate risk of stroke by ten to 15%. But for heavy drinkers who consume more than four drinks each day blood pressure tends to go up significantly in the risk of stroke increases by about 35. Percent that's because when you have a couple of cocktails you stop and at the McDonald's and get that double cheeseburger with the Fries. Maybe their own an apple I think it's kind of related I mean I would imagine. I would think so too I would imagine but that doesn't excuse how they pack as you heard now that's good from health Canada has no problem or something tonight at the where. Oh makes you feel good I don't know wide lake in I'm someone who drinks but why can't drinkers just say hey this isn't good for me and I'm gonna do it anyways. Not so nice. I don't poll that way come to terms that a long time and I hope I've often been a a proponent of befitting of the herd. Oh yeah editing lame that to me so you know how in nature. If if you've got a herd of cattle OK just kind of out in the in the wild planes never hear just roaming the coyotes they go after the slowest ones per course. Survival of the fittest we are that we know that alcohol kills brain cells we know that but might the areas that kills the slowest ones first and so every time you drink you're actually making yourself. Smarter smarter now that as its interest in theory. When I've ever heard a thought but noted but it's your theory alters it's it's unproven there's nothing behind this but. It's just the thought there we'll think about you know how many years we went in all right. It's healthy Q what we'll look at the study back then. Might it might Terrell. Of the petitioner not. Yeah that's why general you want anything health related when it comes to food or drink is if you just wait long enough. The results will reverse so that's I continue to eat eggs today knowing that ten years from now they'll tell me they're bad again right but then when I'm sixty they're gonna be great forms. That's how I look at everything in moderation. A DS announcing yesterday that they are partnering with beyoncé. And re launching her active Wear line title IV park. Underneath the German sportswear brand Adidas this is this a pretty big move for d.s. Well I can't miss it I'm sure they play paid tea that the tag again where I would imagine she doesn't come cheap and believe I believe mr. Carter is with the rival sportswear company from the mistake and I believe so. But if you look at you know which is kind of like that's a fascinating is that they've. Complete money ready to take anything they can get it not that hair fascinates she's got her own thing going on daisies got his own thing going on and the only thing they care about is that bottom line. You get as much as you can get out as much put it in what I find that the greatest part about this for me so jeez he's with puma and now beyoncé is with a devious and really kind is it indeed it's as well them but the two companies whom in indeed this. They were born out of a -- and a few little little you're from the same company originally so it's just I find that hole it was as full circle of family squabble that's what the two companies in developed to companies and so you know in terms of this it's you know it's really interesting because historically. You've seen you know the big money is always gone towards athletes bird you know sportswear specifically. Basketball right. But you're seeing more and more cross over into India entertainment now which I do I find really interesting just kind of have you know the two worlds are kind emerging it is and it's pretty simple you know if if you. If you go back to when it easy sign and a few easy and he says it is written and run the songs making yankees cap payments. At least through so. They obviously have season SO real look at pro growth. The biggest sector of growth hasn't been over the last decade has not been it's been in the world and it and specifically in the rap world. And hip hop world. Poll Monica from CNN business joins us now here talk a little bit about Walgreens boots alliance Paul thanks for joining us. You as having known critic about it. Yeah Walgreens with a little bit of a tough week here the stock dropping for 63 bucks a share down to 55 so about a 1213%. Loss for them. CVS kind of dragged down on this news as well what what was the big thing that they report in what what's the problem that they're going through. Yeah it's just you know what weak outlook further arrests this year in earnings and sales minute then you know I think that the company that. You are a lot of channel right now that the active minister and the actual order receive gas. Over generic drug prices in you know declining reimbursement rates in that. Hurting all. Those companies bought it yet and outlaw greet the dog is a lot of competition to lead in the back and from. Wal-Mart and Amazon but also lot you know many other retailers that you know he'll when you go into a drugstore in trying to. Captain Paul spot something that. You know description drug. You'll odds aren't that prices are higher than if he would something like groceries or Costco hour. A dollar store and I think that turned to catch up. Souza we've been having in debate here how how much of a company like Walgreens how much their sales is based on kind of front of the storage is Tino walked in and buying you know deodorant or shampoo were something like that. Yep it's it's still by and large you know the the back end a part try. You know but of course they're all. You know if you go into a drugstore there are all being renovated the past couple years they really are dispersed out. The front and get people to buy more from that part of the store and I think that there are happening you'll a little bit of limited extent. Obviously Walgreens also has the added problem BUSUK. High grade beat back the a client partner in the you know the food stores in the UK at that you're really been struggling in practice. In terms of trying to compete with the Amazon's of the world and so forth. I know one of the things that CBS CBS announced last year they've been expanding is. Next day prescription delivery is Walgreens trying to do anything similar at this point. Yeah they are trying to deduce something similar to yes just announced yesterday that there expanding that program not making it just being gay deliberate or descriptions in. In many cases I think bolt put the companies have done it you know delicate job of recognizing. Want but you know obviously you know Amazon has been extremely aggressive you know the pill pack acquisitions. Eat that that was a wake up call for the industry. In in terms of trying to remedy the issue is that Walgreens is facing is. Is this something I guess that they can even fix on their own or their bigger economic forces at work right now. That you know might cause investors to have to take a harder look at this sector for you know a number of years just in terms of teams that everyone whether. You know Democrat Republican or even not involved in politics is talking about drug price now is they're just too much of a head wind in this space. I think that is definitely going to be a challenge for both companies especially. With a 20/20 election they're probably gonna you know upbeat on you know the big pharma companies to be. One constant. Between you know president tropical apple want that being the democratic candidate much like it was. Between trumpet or twenty expedient. I think that one a key yet to project back to walk yet kind of inching it. Will Walgreens even though they're now cost cutting mode trying to make an acquisition to. Really bolster our other parts healthcare business they might actually and Europe mean you look at it yet. Obviously they've gone in and they scooped up at. But now they have that help that your side you know they're war want upshot of all green if it is right now. And I think that's a lot that's going to be worried about the don't want to offer paid for a deal but I think some investors might feel that all need to do. An insurance Steelers but the similar. In order to really catch out. Very good Paul will what you actually have one more question for you I know you're here in giants fan typically when it comes to football teams. Did you see what the jets did what their new uniforms yesterday. Yeah I did. It's a yeah eight it's not great now I prefer blue or green but it that way in you know. At that the jets got to do something they tried it. I wasn't gonna say but you took the words right out of my mouth so thanks Paul have a great weekend we'll talk to him her arm. Well this it's a problem for all of us Paula Monica from CNN business talking about Walgreens boots alliance. Little bit of a just quickly give markets as we head towards the top of the hours the Dow was now up 27 points at the moment. The S&P is up eleven the NASDAQ is up forty so all major indices. In positive territory at the moment. Gonna recapping the big story from earlier. Two day. Chris we get it we get. New jobs numbers for the month of march came up pretty good pretty at it's it doesn't you know fully put to bed the week February that we had we still need a couple more months to confirm that but. It it starts to make February look more like the aberration in the start of the new trend. Makes us feel a little bit better go and into the weekend last that we wanted to write with some really dismal numbers heading into the weekend media markets are up today. The jobs are up unemployment down so. We're gonna make it to Monday.
