You know. This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and sharks are now. You're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day you're sick leave your world. And stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck saga. We've got updates for you on the wrecks we've got Victoria on the Boeing crisis. We've got a slew of economic data that's come out over the last hour and a half but. Where I really wanna start off today's program is what I could certainly that word today and that's privacy. So I want shift over the tech firms talk a little bit about two of the biggest ones out there how. They are sort of diverging on the idea of privacy Mike Armstrong appear how to pursue with you in studio today. And let's start there so. FaceBook announced yesterday Thursday that two of their key executive Chris Cox were the early engineers close personal friend of Mark Zuckerberg. He was heading the three main plot platforms FaceBook and Seagram what's that he oversaw all three of them. As well as in other colleague Chris Daniels who headed the what's that unit. We're stepping down and the aid what they saw as a maybe differing views and a changing direction of FaceBook. To present the good old days when principled cabinet ministers would step down when the president and the prime minister. A duck it's a new policy that they just thought was absolutely wrong and this really is Mark Zuckerberg I think attempting to pull off magic where you've taken the social network it's all about sharing everything and having no privacy. And now persuading you all I'm now totally in a privacy and having you sent private mass does to people. MS does the disappear like that chance. Yeah it's this is gonna be big key focus according to mark Zachary is key focus of the next few years is shifting Facebook's focus. Two more of a private messaging and communications service. Rather than what we use it all today did share pictures of our grandkids and post about how much greener jobs in setters that are everything else third post on FaceBook. And clearly it's it's been had now from the transition for two key executives to lead the company. And look at it from a financial perspective for so financially speaking FaceBook currently derives 98%. Of their revenue. From advertisements from all that garbage that you go and look at a snowblower online and all you see on the FaceBook feed the next three weeks is that's for snow blowers for months months. IC yeah I search for a new dress shirt and that's all I see is advertisers for fifteen different companies you offering me different dress shirts. That is that the core of what FaceBook does and they are attempting to shift that now I wonder how much of that is purely due to pressure him what they see as political pressure in getting all the different congress verses. Is there any true. Data behind this to show that consumers care is the argument that I think we've had on this show over and over is that. We don't seem to care about our privacy and most of us most of us yeah there's there's an exception to that rule. But most of us seem to beat her. Perfectly comfortable with baseball collecting the data and and make a lot of money I think people care might. But they don't care enough to go out completely change or delete their FaceBook. Or you know Alter their FaceBook privacy setting which is 'cause like. What do complain about more than anything it feel like actions not being done by users so and so. I think that there's a couple some. Soup first off. Yeah I'm guessing marks September's cool bit sick of being hauled in front of congress and recognized yeah. Beer's been sent permanent damage. Done to his upper and at this point in this pipe part headlined wise it was kind of a rough year for FaceBook when he team use your face and I'm sure you got tired of that. But the other part I think has to do with. Consumer trends so I mean go look I mean particular that your FaceBook feed I don't know what yours is filled with but mine is. Filled with advertisements it's not friends of mine posting stuff right on to FaceBook it's very rarely actually. The content that I used to see down there ten years ago it's filled with. You know fake news stories. Not I mean feat -- in seven that's made up I just mean like that third the hippest way that people are saving money in 2019 yet. The stories that I care about I just scroll their core are way down the page and there's a whole range sunglasses that I was looking at the other day. So that's certainly scroll down. That's her and perhaps that's what Zuckerberg saying it's look people aren't using this platform when it used to be used for so I need to change our our business here. I would say. We Mark Zuckerberg might opening premise is what's the most cynical. PR based explanation for what he's seeing her in this case I think is just dial down the pressure make it sort of look like you care about privacy by some time. Sort of lowered the you know that the temperature bubble around the discussion of privacy and FaceBook who knows if any these platforms ever. Come to beer but you know. If you sort of come out and make nice noises about privacy it can lower the intensity of the debate for a little while by some time. It could the I look at the way that I use some of Facebook's products these days I have used the FaceBook marketplace. Pretty extensive I have to edit so the couple products on FaceBook and one thing that they could do there that I think would be rather successful is integrated and no type of payment system. Terps don't have that I think that are attendant down and I think they're talking about a damn one VO the securely send payments to people that I. Him. Necessary one beat up in aid don't condone its parking lot exchange cash ya which I've done I've done to drive men Matta got a star market. You know sold like golf exactly so maybe it's that partially that that could be a business model for them but you know at the core here I don't know how you get away from. What you really do FaceBook which as you sell as you aren't I mean it's called social. Media with her you're supposed to be. Out there in the open that's the whole purpose of this platform so. Zuckerberg wants to take this in a direction where it becomes. You're just have a conversation with somebody in your living room and behind closed doors. How is that don't work. It's it's a good question I don't know what they and I don't know what FaceBook is gonna consider private you know privacy if FaceBook could just be. They were knocking a hostess to your news feed but we're gonna continue to collect all the conversations that you have continue to direct advertisements to you based on the conversations and polish that you have. Aid privacy doesn't necessarily mean a we're not going to sell stuffed. Now I am. Basically certain that these prime ministers say hey we discuss the great news we're expecting in September you're gonna start scene crib notes and diaper heads or China you know were thinking about hey what do you know about you know what Cancun is like in May and you're mr. team Aeromexico add to your feed. I I assume the worst when it comes to FaceBook and I tend to be right yet. And well is to touch on how investors are feeling about today upon the departure of the two key executives the stock is currently down over 4%. While I mean is hers right hang guys from the sounds of it yeah I mean this is not quite Sheryl Sandberg leaving it's not that bad it's close it's not that far away. So very big directional change announcement coming from FaceBook to people that have been the company for quite some there at least one of them was at the company since really close the beginning. Departing and clear investors have some concerns about it and keep the mind this. There's and doesn't sound like it just FaceBook platform yet mr. Graham and what's out as well restaurant. Is a fantastic. And harmless form quite potentially Facebook's best acquisitions. In history. That that's. Probably the best they've acquired so far I think there and adds a very effective on out there. Very yes by them before they eat you're much that's right. And they're gonna. That we've got the other side this great company that has. I would say pretty thoroughly throughout its history. Had a respect for their users' privacy and that apple and I think they're finally. Getting differently getting the fact that as their key advantage these days in my predicted this but college ago in my predicted this. Four months ago. So apple. We can all go back to different stories that we've seen. Yeah I think the most poignant one is where man. The FBI. Tried to get the text message data from the apple phones in terrorism case and apple basically said look it's slippery slope and went well and do it. Apple just released their first commercial touting their own privacy policies. If privacy matters in your life it should matter to the phone your life as a so that tagline little bit cheesy but don't watch the video gold watch the commercial I think it is incredibly and incredibly successful but that's funny hey it's a funny video it aids it's cute it's. And it calls out what I think is Apple's today biggest advantage in the Smartphone market places they are the only ones out there that I would trust to keep might deprive. Yeah I don't use an apple phone. I had my dad I don't have one respect what they're doing that's funny that perspective you chauffeur. Apple with their privacy you dream now overnight I don't I think it's just too much money in I'd I'd just had never been part of the Apatow universe but you know I look at my a Google phone and bill how much is being shared that company announced. Yeah and only a little bit disheartening Everett this would make me. Nothing else about the apple product out of the you know what I consider to be a fashion accessory. That's how I feel like it's really been sold over the last decade and to me that was an appealing. These are feeling right this is appealing. The one caveat I would shooters apples to put itself up on a very high pedestal they have so if if you get three examples. Of apple not honoring your privacy in the way they should bang you got a front page story and a headlines Korean broadcast news and the hypocritical apple is whine about how much they respect your private true. That's very true and that was my suspicion initially as to why they hadn't been pushing this a lot was. I figured okay must discourage something out where they accidentally shared a bunch people's data that much apple must history something happen if that comes out. Then yeah apple apple will be taking it on the chin in the news. They were take quick break coming back I want talk a little bit about Bre X it's and then an update on the Boeing crisis and all the grounded planes stay right here to into the financial exchange radio network. Don't need this stare at the charts graphs and numbers all day and just listen to us it's the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and chuck signed up on the financial exchange radio network. So we unfortunately have to do cover this week's wrecks it news. Quickly I'd I've not sure when we've ever get to stop talking about practice for hours for now the answer is never. And for now the answer is is never going to be stop talking about holding its ground hold. There were three votes about racks at this this week and parliament. And I wanna cat talk about the briefly. First one was trees in May came to parliament with a new bricks that deal they want and she won Prague to vote on whether or not there except that they voted down by 200 some odd votes terrible. Better than her first one which is voted down 350 votes it's it's going in the right direction. The next vote was whether or not parliament want to take control. Of the of depression negotiations. So they voted no to that trees amazed deal they also voted no to taking control of themselves so we want that. Basically criticize everything that threesome may does but we also don't have any responsibility for making the decisions. And then the third though we finally got a yes out of them which was. Hey we're gonna vote to delayed the decision on how way and win to beat the European Union. Because we got to march 29 deadline coming up in fourteen days that we need to deal so where do we go from here. Oh what's this. One of the next story now if you like with the record just wake me up when your response it breaks that went there to satisfy any decision but it looks like I mean to your point Germany and benevolence seemed to be okay with a delay. An extension. And you know Germany kind of eased the EU. And so is on this kind of France and a couple of other countries. Get in mind that. They are and but that's it that's a good point is germ is gonna have to get these countries in line their 27 other EU governments and they almost unanimously agreed to this extension. It's not a voter majority it's not anything like that. They have to unanimously agreed Bre X it can be delayed die however long it's going to take so. They're meeting next Thursday. We'll see if they'll get in line the latest I would think that they approve the delay because. There doesn't seem to be any big incentive for the I mean the EU wants Draper and to stay in the European Union anyway so for at least. Wanna make an example that if you try to leave the European Union you get harshly punished and beaten up so don't even think about leaving the EU gets like the hotel California yeah. The certainly would wanna punish them if the decision is to eventually leave. She annually just still have no idea what is going to happen here no clue. No I don't think anyone does and when that's telling you that know what's gonna happen breaks his fault I think I'd been there and I'm another for a in the broad Jerry Tucker I do what's on the board. They're gonna have to do this all over again god they're like oh what do we do I'm sorry. That would be just the biggest slap in the face of democracy that. Did they happened these are my people and so when you column that like the fate of the British economy depends on Slovenia and blocks and lower you know that's when they spit and other deal. Exit their pint. We have any updates on the on the Boeing the growing crisis I guesses what we call yup which. Get the article for me. Well so obviously all the planes are grounded. And there are no new shipments going out there still producing. The 737 Maxi not all the play correct yet that that's you know for anyone that has been buried under rock of the last six days let's talk about you know. What's going on here so 737 Maxi which crashed in Ethiopia on Sunday. They've all the entire fleet of about 370 planes have been. Completely grounded by Alvin got all the world governments. The black boxes have now gotten to France where they can actually be looked at you know with some high level of technologies understand. What happened here. It Boeing's got a serious image problem that they're gonna need. To recover from on their stocks down another one point 3% today is that bring his hands you a total well out 1414 I think so that so the thing kind of dribbling through in the coverage this second crash five months after the tiger air crash. What's kind of dribbling through and I've yet to see the story that totally lays this out the problem seems to EB. Boeing has peaked some self correcting mechanism and the software that flies the plane. And it doesn't put it in the manual the pilots read some pilots can be taking life. The plane is doing something to correct itself and the pilot has no idea what the thing is in its pilot verses computer. And computer wins and the plane crash it's a training problem. Trading profits of disclosure problem it's a it's just a you know there there was a joke fifteen years ago that now sounds like reality the joke among pilots use to be. You know the next greatest jet will be you'll come with a computer and a guerrilla. The computer flies the plane the guerrilla beats up the pilot if the pilot tries to do an Internet and like that's over that's the reality reliving right now. Yeah I mean day I think it Thomas driving Thomas planes are you know pretty darn close to we're getting there. I've been speaking with aid. Pilot and we remembered minute flights from one of the main American Airlines and if he's been the doesn't he doesn't flow but why Boeing planes so he doesn't have the perfect spare it's real talk about the specific. Circumstance but. You know one of the things he's been kind of hesitant about is. Both of these accidents did take place in developing developing world countries and his take on it leads to which. You know comes from being in the industry for twenty plus years flying around the country trying around the world with other pilots. Is that the US and developed countries have far better training programs and some of these developing nation airlines and that may be part of the reality of these crashes. Although what I have read and I apologize it said tiger Mountain Lion there and got Mike Newton high school teams confused. What I British Ethiopian airlines actually is a descendant of TWA and at TWA DNA and so you you hear Ethiopian think poll how don't want. You know. Tribes person. Who may have been that you know bill math and just you know Gervais the development of of a country that's not super developed into one person that country behind the controls. Plane the reality is it it seems to have eve theory. High quality reputation. In the global aviation industry. Yeah it does. And and that was my impression at first when I looked up Ethiopia there is track record in their history was him pretty flawless but I I go back to. I wouldn't hurt you if you know pilot go ask you would you would you fly on an Ethiopian airplane. And the person I talked to answer is now. One thing to remember about Boeing is that they think in the relentless cycles of decades so few people remember this the 77 dreamliner we'd love. It was delayed about five or six times before it finally went industry and its battery can catch fire and Boeing. He was you know they took PR hit after appear here after appear it but there were willing to do it because she's. You gonna get that plane now hand flying the right way and then. You know they just they've been selling some forty sevens for fifty voters statements on 730 sevens for within what happened here. You know Boeing if you're having issues delay the plane delayed the play and deliberately don't start producing thousands of them a year. Because if they crash you're you're done. Sounds like it totally botched this I had died. I am trying to you know be neutral about this because we don't have all the information yet. Site if you have a potential issue with an airplane it carries hundreds of people delay per. To get daybreak we got Wall Street watch coming up stay tuned here at financial exchange. So Mike for Wall Street watcher take a look at Adobe. He and oracle in a couple of maybe perhaps legacy tech firms but oracle. For one reported adjusted quarterly profit of 87 cents a share beating estimates revenue beat forecasts as well. A butts are there current compass courage. Quarter revenue came in below estimates and there's been just some discussion about their ability to. Really keep up in this league. Moved towards the cloud stock was down more premarket right now. It is down a little bit less than 1%. Adobe on the other hand a little bit worse Adobe beat estimates against the current quarter by nine cents a share. It just did it just early quarterly earnings of 171. Revenue beat forecasts as well but current expected to current quarter guidance ways wave away stock is down five point 3% right now. Nursing homes in the states today applies to that assisted living facilities to be you're seeing. That. The occupancy rates at these facilities have been really tanking one in four nursing homes in the state Massachusetts have occupancy rates. Of 80% or less. And the average occupancy rate is 86% now. Pattern of behavior into nursing home might have been quite frankly this Tim knee is kind of addicting. They're not usually terribly pleasant places and I wouldn't really want my family members after it. Be there but it's sometimes necessity but. You know this is likely we've already had several of these when he thinks nursing homes in mass is closed last year you're gonna probably see more of them if this continues. It's absolutely nine's my data they helped out with the Santa Maria nursing facility in Cambridge which look like was gonna have to shut down. Fortunately people who run the darn Horry on home in east busting came to build it up led what they were up against what all these partners in Europe against. Big lose money every day and every patient is paid for by Medicaid that's health 38 bucks a day in some cases. More and what you need is really sort of an orderly contraction. You know it it's of kind of disorderly. Sporadic shut down here and there becomes a crisis and you know people in nursing homes to your point Michael. Before they went up in the nursing home and we got to move those people from facility to facility. It is ranching yeah I am I would imagine trying to move samaritan donors to a different nursing room could be. Really detrimental to their health I would think in his community that was friends now. If this is this is one of those stories where it's a good health after the fact that less people are ending up in nursing homes probably means that we're doing a better job of caring for elderly. But I get concerned if you have all these nursing homes shutting down. You we have. How old the oldest baby boomer now seven B Yemeni 473. Turkey looked at a I will be the assumption would be that you know in 1015 years we're gonna and really have some demand these types of facilities would be my guess. Well probably a different version of these facilities with numbers from Mike standing order of my kid it is. We put winners and I'm just put me on sealed vote semi. I've heard that one can take a long walk in the woods but sales vote. And it's able to kind of expensive and Santa out of SpaceX and don't have to come back and since 74 yours all seven foreigners oh it was tumor so. Yeah hey it's it's uninteresting story I would not have anticipated and I think of our aging population in this country I think give you all of the factors that would lead to these nursing homes being pretty packed that. At least here in Massachusetts. Their really experience in some financial pressures and new closing down at a pretty quick rate right now. Other Boston based news you've got the old hood milk plant site that's going to be converted to a pretty massive. Office tower. Which I'm sure is gonna bring condos. And apartments and stuff and Charleston. Is that that is correct that could plant he concede up in 93. The one concern I have is traffic if you're dressed at 93 northbound you get off at exit 25 recently. Has that headed down to supplement our dad no I have not last like six years is a nightmare it doesn't matter what hour of the day you were stuck on that ramp through about five light cycle everything's a nightmare in your is that where you would go to get to the casino. It is a whole man to recruit. To put these buildings up Seward happens to highways. But hopefully it's also right near the community college orange lines to utter a peep my complaint here. I don't know how much it cost me to drive and the city of Boston from abroad from west to east but it cost me a few bucks in tolls but I can get. Into the city of Boston from 93 for freaked garbage yeah. Change the rules Boston put up at all of the total in 93 or get rid of the tolls on 990 do something different. Speaker system makes no sense whatsoever. Other Boston. Kind of based company's. Gee so obviously G. He has been working through. That we college. A number of big issues of the last few years they've actually been doing fairly well this year the stock right facing some challenges India also. Stock is up here started this year at around eight bucks a share it's up nearly to ten dollars a share it got over ten bucks a share. A few times earlier this year and you know I think this is one of those stories where. Pretty much everyone is hoping for turn your courage maybe not turnaround but at least eighty. Leveling out of GE's. Stock price and profitability. Or just a complete break up. Yeah I look at it they say you know if it worked for awhile it definitely is not work in now and chop this thing and a 9 pieces and I am almost certain that the nine pieces are worth more than the sum of the parts yeah hey the problem that you have doing that. Is the massive amount of debt. And pension obligations and where it is one that's a very big questions for the lawyers are for him yeah that's pretty complicated lawyer question. This is a lot of news came out during the interview that cult did with that Jim Cramer is just yesterday. And you know I've looked at the interview I've I've watched I read through it and there's really nothing new here. It sounds like Culp is saying that hey trying nineteen is kind of going to be a throw everything at the year and just kind of see what sticks and just be full disclosure about just how bad things look. So maybe we'll get some more views into this but right now I just hey things are not a terribly good between nineteen Campbell have more to tell you later so the key quote we have a number problems we need to work through this year. This is the year that we share with the world what those issues are. So wait GE you haven't told me how bad things are yet yeah it's going to be worse yes yeah that that's exactly what they're cops telling us is that expected to get worse before it gets better. There are now anticipating what was between fifty and sixty cents per share. Adjusted earnings this year which was below the seventy cents per share the people had been expecting. Stocks down. Three the three and a quarter percent right now down two just below ten dollars a share at the moment. It's one of those companies where. Me talk about Facebook that we talked about apple is there's a lot of the industrial and not industrial and institutional money in those companies. GE's one of those companies that. Seems like everyone and their mother alone at one point in the very much or retail. Investor type of company. And those pension obligations that that's what really scares me about. Investing in G stock. And having a pension for from G I just. You know I am not a whole lot of faith that's going to be there are few years. Pretty concerns. Folks why haven't talked about. The admissions scandal in quite some time through its bank did. What's six months since that's been up in the news. But the SEC has come out and now announced a new. Allegations I guess against Volkswagen sainovic patch or perpetuated a massive fraud repeatedly lied to US investors. And specifically it's about a bond issuance that they did between April 2014 and may have 2015. Where they issued more than thirteen billion dollars of bonds on the US markets. So. One VW has already the I believe paid out between thirty and 35 billion dollars in relation in regards to the emissions cheating scandal. And now they're facing some more some more allegations from the SE CNN and I think the SEC's. Kind of right and wrong here. In one regard. Yeah clearly people are Volkswagen knew that there were. That they were cheating on all of the stuff but it also looks like investors weren't really harmed by. There are really embrace its classic like border. You know late hit SEC fifteen yards. Mean c'mon this is four years ago this is such classic SEC asleep at the switch didn't catch anything. It's certainly the SEC always shows up when there's a cold body and says wait there's been a murder here via their years after the fact they're not terribly good at catching things before him correct. So we'll see we'll discuss aid it's our elected you know in selling books organ is an already being punished enough. Faster. And they they've really done a pretty good job accepting responsibility in making amends here but. And now. I mean they'd be were offering securities and withholding information for shareholders though as he's got a point there it's just. We toughened to prove that people were actually harmed by deacons. Today in the complaint retirement the bonds that were issued but. The bondholders got all their interest payments and got the principal back so tough to argue that that was really. That that really hurt I guess unless you sold the bonds during the emissions scandal in which case April so talkers while predictions. Fourteen months from now on Friday afternoon SEC announces that. VW's paid small seven figure fine to settle making seven figures 74. It's. Tiger talking about that FaceBook earlier in the show yet trying to tidbits there. Strategy for being just a pure type company to focus on privacy and sharing. Messages encryption. Mass we've got a poll question on the financial exchange. Website poll question do you use FaceBook less than. More than or the same amount as twelve months ago I like it. Definitely comes into play with sort of security. In addition to Social Security another item that people have filed when it comes to retirement pensions. Is that the same type of conversation and same type the calculus the people need to go through certainly there's a lot of calculus there but there's oftentimes even beer one with pensions and narrow bit more rare today which is. You're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your. World stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus give breaking business news every day it's. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck son. Attack Friday we've got a bunch of stories to cover in regards the big tech companies. Paula Monica's me joining us later on the show to talk to us about Walgreens. CDS. And all of the change health care markets. But before we get there are wanna start in talk about a little bit about FaceBook recovered a little bit in the beginning to show. 32 big FaceBook executives are departing Chris Cox and Chris Daniels. Both departing one of the Chris Cox. Was headed the three main plot points FaceBook and Graham what's app. I've been there really since the beginning personal friend of Mark Zuckerberg Chris Daniels over the head of what's that unit. The stock right now it's FaceBook stock was down I think we said four and a half percent earlier this morning recovered a little bit down nearly 3%. They are trying to make a pick here and I am very unconvinced that they're going to be able to right now in 90% of Facebook's revenue comes from advertising. They are trying to nor Mark Zuckerberg in particular and clearly there's some differences of opinion between his. Key people in Mark Zuckerberg but. The gopher Zuckerberg apparently is you make FaceBook more of a private messaging service then what it is today which is a public news feed that advertises to use. Michael would you call him that I am a call 180 via FaceBook and all about let's let our entire life hang out there for everybody know everything that we're doing. After FaceBook to then Seles ads based on that and so Mark Zuckerberg saying. Never mind now we're going to be all about private conversation and were not gonna exploit your private conversation. To sell ads to you presumably yet which I've. Call. And you know what I'm. Yeah and it can say that word on the radio but yes I can say BS and letters ya Bravo Sierra yeah. I'm calling Bravo Sierra on that that's a but you know big clearly some departures so people knew stamp saying that we're not searcher is going to work bite. Facebook's also I don't think I've seen anything that's saying hey we're going to stop using the news feed and stop advertising on that segment. But I think they are going to focus on new research and development in terms of their private messaging service which. Tension I don't trust respect to do it but it's inched and maybe some of the people that they sixty. That indicates people are posting less and doing private conversation more. It take this for whatever it's worth. I keep getting on all these different devices FaceBook is trying to force me to install messenger I've got around one device my home computer in the parlor and so I checked face it meant but. I do not want peace but messenger anywhere near the rest of my life. Yeah Andrea. Apple on the other hand which has been kind of having that one tech company with a reputation for privacy has finally started brag about it. They rolled out a new commercial I think just last night that I thought was really saw today and encourage people if your interest in the subject to go take a look at Apple's new privacy dad. Says that there was a 3062. Ad that's just. All about how apple is you know focused on your personal privacy and today acting to bad Apple's biggest competitive advantage when you look at all of there. You know Smartphone competition when you look at all the different services that tech companies put out there. To me this when apple stated they're not the same fashion brand that they used to be I know there was a time where. Apple was producing the iPod maybe everybody was producing the exact same product and everybody else did it for cheaper than apple but everyone bought the apple one. Because they want to have the cool apple logo on their clothes I don't think that plays anymore it was the Tesla phones yeah I don't I just don't think it plays anymore. I think this they're competitive advantage totally Tucker I think that's an insult apple and you should apologize. I apologize. Because I'm a Big Apple as. You're fell just how dare I don't just take its exports. Another Samsung but I get to hear of anybody based on their I Chad I've yet to hear anybody giving an aunt from apple based on with their chatting about it and I know. So we're hearing an argument from some investment analysts. That's reminds me a lot of commentary that we heard back in march of 2000 that the tech sector is suddenly different. It's not the same thing as it used to be. Issues. There that basically. These tech companies are not as volatile as they used to be that they're not gonna come crashing down and the prices that we're paying for their stock are now not. Crazy anymore and that it to me on one side is the exact same commentary. That we are getting right before the tech bubble of 2000. Well so talk question of how you define things because I think at the point is so I don't get. A Microsoft bill. Yeah rotating detonate you know I get a seven dollar bill a month charged forward bite wife and kids have. You know they've they subscribe to Microsoft software so they can make things work on their phones. And computers and I'm sure the microshaft has been cranking that up by you know and will crank it up by 5% 6% a year. Animal kind of fire under the radar. That's good that's essentially a utility. Stock yup and that is the argument that's being made yours that you know twenty years ago businesses relied on. Paper companies they relied on and you know photo copiers like Xerox they replied on if they relied on different types of companies and airlines today. Today you rely rely on your customer relationship management software you rely on your database network you rely on. What are now pretty high tech companies and that's the argument is that. Okay these companies just replaced the Xerox's the staples the New England telephone yet these other tech companies over the used to sport businesses. On the other hand. You know other people are calling outs. Mobile phones rarely have a life span of five years you're spending 750 dollars senator 52000 dollars for an iPhone. It's more expensive than a dishwasher washer dryer. Which is spectacle of 1520 years and while those economics might work when the economy's doing incredibly well and everyone feels wealthy. That might all come crashing down if unemployment goes up and wages can I propose we set up to new tech sectors. Here's boring annuity tech in their sexy expensive tech Coca. And we sort of look at him as two different industries but we start to. Netflix and FaceBook are no longer in the technology sector. Amazon is not in the technology sector there in the consumer discretionary sector but I kind of lump them all together. I I see the argument if there's a legitimate argument that you know a lot of these tech companies are providing just ongoing business support they used to be done. Guy. Paper companies and photocopy machine companies and hardware companies in the past that has been replaced by software. On the other hand you know we spend a lot of money in our Netflix. Subscriptions we spend a lot of money on Amazon's subscriptions and buying things on there. And that. And we spend a lot more money on our iphones and re could be spending on it cheaper I don't know Samsung or HTC your wallet washer and dryer or washer and dryer troops. Ands there instead of that that's fair argument could this all come crashing down if the economy tanks and I would argue the answer is yes. Missions necessary get too far ahead of ourselves. China trade deal haven't talked about that a little bit president Charles we could present terms saying the organ have a deal in the next three to four weeks it's turning into the Brecht said. Is that keep coming back on and elect. Seems to go with the goal posts up another few months. The latest news is that the rumors are that president she has been saying that they wanted to link a any sort of trade deal to an official state visit by. By a Chinese guy after. In which. 21 gun salute stay at Blair house yeah actually iron it was here for the full red carpet which. Tell me would actually be a pretty good indicator that word indicator that we're closing in on the end here. Yes and normally. Once you have one of these things set up a president would. Get the piece of paper and sign on the dotted line. I think with this particular president you have to think there's a possibility that you would set up on this stage craft and sentiment changed at the last minute and this president would decide not to sign the tree deal. He gonna factor in and cost. Dad there is some uncertainty here and you present child has actually said that he would prefer to not get the full deal figured out before hand. You'd rather have it in 90% of the way there and then you have the last 10% down in person. In Washington so a little bit to be worked out here did did talk to chuck heavy prediction of when the China trade deal is we settled tiger I don't think we had a traditional prediction let me look program. I was shockingly president. Front would wanna be the center of attention. He's usually not like that aren't so we were talking on February 8 about the march 1 deadline. For the trade deal which we now know is past pushed off yes so you said. They were BS three month delay on a a trade deal. Where. The chucked says the six month delay and we don't have a hard way actually thank. Action news terrorist. Was no deadline set by it. Maybe that's point you were saying like three months from set deadline they were being treated deal I don't know every show like this needs a Tucker still look mr. accountability yeah. Out. I know a lot of post its on the Waldner let's take a break we got oh we attribute them. We do it we are doing Steinfeld true yes because. The the theme there's no real reason for custody culture to the other than the fact that chuck is out so we can't do action movie Friday trivia. And Barry's outs we can't you pouring presidential trivia so you know what we're gonna do sign Belcher signpost Schroeder like size and Belcher is coming up guy gets a thumbs raised text then. Say hey this is a completely developing stories just a rumor at this point but clearly don't stop moving positive for the day and if they can't grow it at that quickly that would be. Routed surprise so my job Boeing feeding miss miss information to Bank of America if it was just alone are sufficient so Evan flatow. Admitted that there is a software problem I don't think man this is it minutes at an admittance of guilt yet. And I am well in Asia as it is a software reports or some sort of admission there was a plug. I don't know a lot of that has not been done yet I'm still waiting time in an interview with the CEOs going to come here and talk about this which has not happened yet. I was debating if those tough question I didn't noticed you didn't know I didn't against and your frequent side filled viewer not anymore Peter. I don't know the answer but I don't know anything about popular culture. You don't want cycle of I don't watch sense of activity but not enough to. Have burned to know that I'm pretty confident that we're going to at least eleven answers. Oh yeah I out on the eleventh correct Nancy there's a lot of major side told not to elderly and I do know I over by a sponge worthy. That there's just a thought its majority of the current. And. So. In continuing with some light hearted news here Louisiana accidentally sent. I created specifically for the recent. You can't accidentally sent out 26 million dollars in double tax. They actually paid a double tax refunds for nearly 66000. Taxpayers. Amounting to almost 26 million dollars most of this was done by direct deposits in the going to be able to pull it back. But the smoke spokesman urges anyone who received a larger refund than what they actually were due. To please don't spend the money but to raise my answer is it's. Already dollar yeah it's already been spent that money is along go on immediately. And that's a a like a party blows through as if I were down in Louisiana that's what I would have missed it up roulette table put on red you know no less a pop. They bond tone today it doesn't quite have the same boring if so little bit of a mistake on the he's a state income tax refunds. I don't feel you are listening to Louisiana and you notice will be an extra cash in your counts. I wouldn't spend quite a beam was there a monopoly card over the big error in your favor yeah that's all eyes yeah that's exactly. The community just any others get the keep it's 26 million bucks a terror. All know in Louisiana wanted to how many B 66000 taxpayers her campaign contributors to governor Jon bill and we think that's kind of the way things rolled in there. More apple news sue apple in spots higher button heads years integrity Spotify. I did it. Don't anymore seal did you pay for a subscription for Spotify I try I think it tried their free trial in the I think the most they spent was 99 cents for a three month trial. So not delegates correct I think Jack is I have Amazon prime. So I listen to music per. I think I pay for my kids tease by the WTC 999 coming out here but now I just feel out of 999 I think I don't know about yourself many nine and you guys that he can no longer keep track of them. So spot applies but has that apple specifically in rehearse their App Store day this is. If if you've never designed to nap if you don't know how this all worked which I didn't. You have to kind of get into it but effectively for being on the App Store. In the apple environments. 30%. Of the charges that you use it ute charger customers goes apple now that differs a little bit by developer. It depends if it's a one time members as a recurring fever generally speaking that's a rule for 30% of what you generate. Is going to apple and Spotify is basically saying that. Because apple has its own music streaming service. They are intentionally putting Spotify at a disadvantage Marisa Tara. Yeah I think they can they call it attacks rose 30% third at ya and I are less fifteen after the first here yeah that's that it's less if their recurring customers writes if you pay every month and it's not the same 30%. But. It's the same thing in the Google store. It's no different if you goad if you go put your platform on Google's platform if you go printer app on anybody else's platform repairing that 30% of I don't know that really Spotify has much of the late stand here but no that's Spotify is complaining about that fee and then. The ease of actually downloading. Spotify premium for nine in the ninth through the App Store in this a test users from that process difficult so that was another thing Spotify. So if they're doing and it's awarded apple says apple basically said damn flu weak interest group is highly it more or less. They said lucky Europe for pay out and just like every other four pay app on our platform you pay the 30% fee now if you're right. That they are also layering on complexities for people to subscribe to Spotify and making it pain or slowing it down that's a very different story. And I I didn't really see them doing this. And now would be very bad for senator Elizabeth Warren is gonna fix this. Yeah this was asked what apple gets broken out this is actually one of the things that Elizabeth Warren would be going after Hussein a break up the app story as you saying yet that basically that's a utility and nation be able to supply their own products just like she wants to say hey Amazon. If you owned the Amazon marketplace you cannot go sell Amazon branded batteries or Amazon branded toilet paper anything else because you're just collecting all this data and putting all your competitors at a disadvantage cell. Benefits us I don't care. It Bennett will so I'm not about to sit here and agree with everything and Elizabeth Warren says but it benefits us in Chile doesn't. What happens when there's no other battery makers at a names marketplace. Now what happens to Spotify goes in and then the president ago. Or take a quick break when we come back talking a little bit more about names on this time about their joint health care. I folks this is Mike Armstrong and I'm joined state by state planning attorney tot lot ski with your financial exchange quick tip of the day. Today were talking about the top estate planning mistakes that you need to avoid yet Todd so many people create their state plan but they then failed to fund it. Explain why it is such a big mistake in what we mean by you're not quite fun ID act it's really huge and you've got to look at it from two points of view one. You're spending money after spending money. To put together an estate plan to want it to work her right and if you don't put assets in your trust that you create. It's not working in two very important respects. One if you have a revoke Coble trust. And you don't fund it. Well that of course you're not avoiding probe because all the assets would be your name that's a big problem too. That language in that trust is what it's designed to help reduce estate taxes when one spouse dies. It shelters assets in and utilizes exemptions. There's nothing in there. It's not helping you do that nothing shelter so that that's not a good idea and from an irrevocable Medicaid point of view if you want it if you're in case you're concerned about doing that kind of planning can you imagine not funding those trusts. Not only do you have all the same problems that we just mentioned with a revoke global trust but one very important problem you never started your five year waiting period. And so if you create an irrevocable trust don't put assets in in five years goes by and you think your assets are protected from the nursing home. They're not. You better fund trusts you better and it's something that day you know. They see all the time folks starting these escape plans for not buying public ski in the estate planning experts at Cushing and Dolan. I love one Cramer had an intern over the chip Alia those housed in the later years to those great. And read Jerry's fridge. I thought that the last one of the best. So remember when Amazon Berkshire and JPMorgan said their team enough to create that healthcare company. Yes and by and many were called big big big news day when they're wiped out billions of dollars of market value on every health care come out there kept its members are like they did say that they've got a name. The name of the new companies called haven they've got to CEO. And we're starting to get some. CEO's name it byways it will go on day he's a surgeon and a big writer on health care. I happen in Nome full disclosure they have used totally brilliant he's an amazing person. I would have been surprised if Amazon Berkshire JPMorgan did not hire totally brilliant CEO of this joint venture. I think we're starting to get some sort of idea of what direction they're gonna go with this venture a risk based clinically integrated network. Yeah which I read that I said okay that means nothing to Lesotho what does it mean the interesting thing is essentially you. Build a network of trusted doctors by enlisting data performance and you send your one point two million. Employees too good doctors and you have not goat too bad doctors NC get better outcomes better health. And you know of course that the devil's in the details scents like. You know a simple enough plan but. You know this is a this clearly is a long term proposition and it's. It looks to me that it's as much about moving the health care system direction only as it is about creating health care system for the employees of The Eastern Co. So let's think about. I guess who it's gonna (%expletive) off right this oh let's everybody yeah I'm sure it's as if every bit there let let's think about this of the Betsy you're going to start. Directing steering your employees and predictably you know other companies employees towards. Certain doctors and not others based on cost is definitely be a big one but outcomes is going to be another one. So. You've got big in a hospital networks that's fraud not going to be grabbing men the physicians networks I will be happy some will be man. It's gonna be interest. Did they not the only company doing as wal mart's trying to do the exact same thing on the route to a wal mart's trying to do something very similar there and there. So a lot of these big big companies. So our company Torre some odd employees we have insurance company if something goes terribly wrong and somebody needs a million dollar surgery that's what the insurance companies their four. Wal-Mart Burke sheer JPMorgan is company self insure that got so many employees that they can spread the risk out of their own employees and that's why they're going this route is the cost is falling on them. And they can have a huge direct impact on how much things cost is great story. From CNBC today about Wal-Mart where essentially they paid to. But I get a diagnosis. You know we had pain in his arms diagnosis that he needed spinal surgery. Wal-Mart pays to fly and up to Pennsylvania where he gets diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. And so now you've a avoided very costly surgery be you've got the correct diagnosis and a you know course of treatment. Guys actually back working at Wal-Mart and you know might person stays healthy for like tempered instance how Anchorage evil. Evil disease how language if you spinal surgery and found out and didn't see it chip Parkinson's disease I guess I guess spinal surgeries at one of the most. Like commonly expensively performs surgeries that doesn't end up working. So that that was news to me but. They you've got Wal-Mart during you've got this this company out haven working on this and that does seem like the direction it's going his. Just trying to focus in on who worthy news corps the correct position networks that we can send patients to that are gonna get good results and inexpensive results which. Would soon make sense today it's going to be confusing and. You worry a little bit about. You know it's just do you think about kind of the wealth gap in the top 1% you're moving to a world. We're potentially another top 1% get great health care. And then the bottom 80% are stacked with the abortion. That's doctors and doctors right. Yeah I mean that's right if you work for Amazon Berkshire JPMorgan or Wal-Mart you'll get the best health care out there because they're gonna do you find it and have the have the information to drive to it and it feud. Picture on Medicare your hand at the the other ones would surprise anybody if Amazon with this team and came out their own wearable. In Duluth the salt together. We are talking a little bit about wal mart's before you start during a Amazon buying tablets. Wal-Mart there's your game Amazon producing their on where rebels wal mart's gonna start selling their own tablets. This shocks me. Doesn't yeah I mean why why the hell would pull her trip that's what that's like target date in her own you know apple watcher or wearable walk to. I even five years ago I would have agreed with you but these days a tablet is just such a basic technology it's it to me it's almost like best buy saying they were to create we're gonna. Put our own branded television. So why don't. When I had ever and I've I've never seen the real retailer like a Wal-Mart make their own technology item. Does me well obliquely cease its going to be essentially white label will be made in some sweatshop in China route android yup and chic it's in America 999 is I'm not gonna if I'm not going on publicly that I use it at home with half the price I bought it Amazon fire tablet it is cheap is cheap second Tuesday is for my kids for a long flight there's. That's when the deal the stream like yeah. Terrible cartoon that would keep him from kick in the passenger front seat. And there's a Wal-Mart version for you know thirty bucks is opposed to sixty bucks you know and ambitious going to be that like classic Wal-Mart blue collar. Yeah I mean I just see this as an evolution of you know products that are now easier to make start off. Yeah they just make Wal-Mart printed. In the paper and diapers and the basic stuff that. In Boca tablets are pretty easy to make these days just wait and become cool with Napster's. And maybe this is them saying hey we've. We the need to go after this strategy witches we may proprietary everything. While mark I just sees how well these tablets selling their stories they know enough information about what to what their buyers wanton. They can do better they think. We'll see Omar doesn't exactly have the best that. Reputation for building tablet X this kind of just reminds you of the report that came out mid last year where. They were thinking about make him their own. Streaming channel Durham of those respect platform that was why is Wal-Mart getting involved and us. Yeah that's true. That to mean absolutely no sense there and at the album they did they did which I've it was a good decision. I know I see this a bit differently. If he goes out of Wal-Mart you can file this all this junk and sent Wal-Mart I think they probably just have enough good information about what there. Customers are looking for from technology products now and I wouldn't be surprised if this got followed up by eight Wal-Mart television. Will they were just at a technology conference via SW addicts or emphasis on them yet sung by southwest and they they. Declare themselves as a technology company yet witches. Misnomer but yeah. So you're not to act now to come on the tablet. Again. Save money live better image that. This year just year to date the health care sector as a whole if you look at the vanguard helter TF that's up a good. With that maybe 5% this year sir it's not a health care sector problem. You what's happening here how are the two companies diverging away from each other and what are the risks with them going for Paul. Yeah these are all great questions and I think eight you know somewhat similar in some respects that they are bowl. The challenges increased competition. From am sure we Amazon to pack position. Hurting. Them with regards to you know upon it. Omar and work in human and there are other retailers like Oscar. Here. Fraud and this to work that. You know they have to different channel Walgreen. You know all these things a lot issues currently need to use the EA cracking down. On secret you know miners as well. Eight being you know cigarette and you know Walgreen they'll sell these products while media you. While they have they're couple years ago you know there is not. What is their daughters strategy yet health care company that you know he'd yet at the it should be you know not something I think that's oh act tradition here that he children. And I do see the two companies can diverging theory that that was I guess the first step in 2014 when CBS and they were no longer selling cigarettes. Now they've done the pretty much completed yet now acquisition Walgreens doesn't have that insurance business too reliant on this point. Do you think that's an overall net positive for CBS or is it have the potential be a net negative for. Yeah I think there it. All Mitt. Lady B. And the acquisition big east yes.
