Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. President trump had a dinner meeting with North Korea's Kim Jong Poland. Last night. And are actually just ended moments ago. We'll talk about what we made no word not you know as a result of that you Ross gonna talk about housing because housing prices seem to have flat line. Hi everybody it's very are strong and Christine Dunn with you here. It's a Wednesday morning and. We know that the president met internally. With Jim Dolan. Sounds like they're getting along it sounds like they're trying to make some progress Christine. It does it does they were reporting last night and overnight. Santa. That president chomping Kim Jung on had you know I had dinner as you mentioned and you know the strategies are to see. What kind of progress on the US can make in order to tried to. Resisting because it's making some demands of its owns four. In the reduction of economic sanctions from the U mass that's going to be interesting to see how these talks play out of an a couple of days. It is going to be an inch in all right we ought to acknowledge that China is. Involved in this you know I I'd look at Kim Jong-Il and his being a puppet of China I don't know what your perception is that I I don't think he makes a move. Without talking to president Jesus our fact he just spent a bunch of time with presidency last week so. It I think there at the president our president is dealing with president G and so trade issues. And maybe North Korea is throw. In and maybe the president. President trump says to president Jean look he's your problem he's your responsibility if you want a good trade deal with the Shia take care than not in North Korea. Mean it's an interesting perspective he asked. I mean it definitely you know com North Korea needs to take into your accounts. In China's perspective just given the close proximity in the fact that China is arguably the super power in that region. Yup. You know a bit North Korea also wants to. Improve ties this country. It's to it's it did damage to do that her so you know it's playing both sides and says there's strong. In historical cultural. You know ties to the south so. You know they're definitely incentives there as well. A lot of people drug parallels between north and south Vietnam. You know using it in South Korea could really unleash. North Korea. You know the troops are gone in the border was on and there are just one country. It's hard to imagine those two countries being together again and here it is did so on has been since the 1940s. And that separates itself. Gross it's interesting to watch but it certainly fodder for the stock market and by the way folks the Dow is down 77 points at 25980. Home prices jumped to a fresh four year low. Case Shiller says the S&P core logic case Shiller twenty city index rose a seasonally adjusted point 2% in the month of December. Compared to November. And was four point 2% higher than a year ago that was the slowest pace of annual growth. Since November of 2014 take we need to point out here Christine. Because they headline would lead you believe. That the housing market was falling apart and really with seems to be happening and it changes by portions of the country. It seems as if just the rate of increases in housing prices starting just now. It does seem that way although the National Association of Realtors to just put out its pending home sales estimates. And saying me year three year contract signings. Felt a little over 2% 2.3 percent in fact yeah making this the thirteenth straight month of annual decreases so that's a pretty significant statistic the people look at. You know pending home sales if you look at it month to month basis in December to January it rebound but yeah. You analysts typically look at the year of the year numbers and they're trying to receive the impact on the economy. What's interesting is on them the your start Lee finally starting to see income. Increased faster than housing prices Kristi prayer or bust probably five years. Housing prices were growing it you know 678%. Year depending on your market. And incomes are growing it won in 2% now incomes are growing it to 3% maybe more. And housing prices Ers slowing down there are three might be less than 2% that we see for pres housing price increases. And we're also seeing more inventory come on the market which is really good for buyers. It is through a canister you know waiting and seeing whether or not Americans who have been standing on the sideline school think about jumping back in and of course the fact that the Fed has indicated that it's not going to be increasing rates this year might also incentivize them to move into the market. POD they're they seem to be very accommodating right now they stroke Powell the closest he wouldn't get to raising rates is just said hey. You know I didn't look at the data and I'll make a decision or will make a decision after we look at the economic data. And there are signs that things are slowdown that the stat we just gave out about how's that demonstrates things there are start to slow down. Well and the forecast by the National Association of Realtors is actually that existing home sales will be down a little for 1% for the year. So. So you know despite the fact that you have wages rise seeing and interest rates on hold. People or so going to be conservative in Armenia gonna pay down some of that down with with higher salaries. What do you think in terms of the salt. Limits had I think that's hitting the operate real estate market. I think people are not happy about it and I mean we've heard before that's you know. Some people in the and some of those higher. Real estate markets are looking for other markets in order to purchase homes. They are they are in and I think what's happening Christine news and if you've done your taxes yet it's only February 27 and I have not done mine to confess and approach and file for an extension that. This is the first year that property owners Christine we have. Property tax. Rates of more than 101000 dollars a year are gonna feel the bite there they're gonna find out gee whiz I thought I could deduct my property taxes. At 20030000. There's parts of New Hampshire where the property tax bills for a 100000 bucks per hole. And I think that's still just starting to kept people and people wore going to be upset about it and I think it can't consequently I think it's gonna hurt the 23 million dollar homes. Right and you know this is gonna mean that filers can't deduct. 323. Billion in state and local tax payments on the 2018 federal transit and that's a huge amount. Now interestingly it really just affects eleven million filers out of 250 million income tax returns. But. But you know still it's it's a very significant amount that's going to that's going to definitely not be popular. That leads into our poll question of the day and that is is your property tax bill more than 101000 dollars per year now. Given where we live right New England. And it mean Connecticut's got the highest property tax rates I think in the country New Hampshire right up there remains are high Massachusetts taxes are high. You know we are our region. Has very high property taxes I think there's going to be a lot of her listeners who say you know my property tax bill is more than 101000 dollars a year he can participate in the poll. But visiting our website its financial exchange showed dot com if you wanna comment on it. You can text us with your comments as a relates to the salt limitations of property taxes. Our text number is 63566. And will be happy to listen to your text they gave it seems like it would with. Most people are sick saying cristina's. These salt limitations are really only hurting the 1% to be really high income Mercury in Massachusetts that would be people making 7800000. Dollars a year more. Very limited in terms of the damaged. It just it frankly this do though tend to curry much sympathy from from the general public. That's Chara and that is true. So I TJ Maxx you Dick shopper there. I'd like TJ Maxx I like the whole range of its stories mean TJ Maxx of course isn't just run TJ Maxx but I also marsh dolls. And home goods and he can always find a great deal any of those stories. Interestingly how their comp store sales increased 6%. Over last year's 4% increase at year every year. And that is the key figure that analysts and investors look at when they're looking at recount earnings. Comp store sales mean on sales at stores open at least a year so that goes to the health of existing stores. And not just temporary boost when a company opens a new store. On but I think that's you know next year is really the key thing in. And you know in that forecast. Actually on TJX companies is actually. I think and reporting a decline. With two why how do they grow their sales. At 6% and has just gotten hurt. In retail. You know moat JC Penney would be happy if sales only declined 6% same store basis are remembered in and initiate a lot of the overflow. From department stores and from a name grants and so are there. Model is based. Mainly by being able to secure a really good deals on inventory overflows. Is it that good a deal when we knew it is it is yeah it really is. And I think particularly the home goods I think more or more that's really what people shop for. And you know a lot of the fashioned clothing so to speak on him I think he now is you know catches catch can. But the hundreds or is really really good kids items are always really good and staples flake. You know underwear and socks he can get a great deal there. But he hasn't been at in its seemingly has not been hurt by online sales that'd do they have a big online presence or do you hope we do you go to the store for that you buy from TJX or do you shop on. Now I've only ever shops on in the story itself. I don't think they have an on line bomb presents so I'm not the testament to them is net. But I remember just watching some. TV at some point last week in February breaking even jail low shots of marshals so they go out there that's been. They would re when we come back we'll take a look at your answers to our poll question indeed it's a very simple question is your property tax bill. More than 101000. Dollars per year he can participate in the poll by visiting financial exchange showed dot com or texting us at 63566. When we come back we'll be talking about why your flight your next trip to Hawaii could be considerably. Less expensive. That's next. Mean this stare at the charts graphs and numbers all day just listen to us it's the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and chuck sun up on the financial exchange radio network. Andy to be used for a variety purposes for small business owners give us an example. Well one example that recently happened was there was a restaurant and he urged it was growing very rapidly they are always full occupancy. And the space next Jordan became available. So they wanted to. Take on that space needs capital to sort build out. The restaurant. And you know was about a 300000 dollar loan. About it how many years did have to pay it back typically these types of loans vary anywhere between five to ten years lots of time. So you know we were able to quickly make that. More than 101000 dollars per year home and I think we import to start to get the the feeling that Christine because. As they go to file their taxes and their counts gonna say to them what you owe money. And it's because you have a property tax bill 20030040000. Dollars a year and you can deduct that anymore that that's what I eat. My suspicion has been all along as to whether it's accurate or not O will find out over time. Ray ray and I know a lot of people last year you know tried to prepare for this Diane. By a now paying their bills early in trying to get that deduction in as soon as they tried that today can't avoid it forever. Milk on the text line 781 right spirit own a single family to be in Everett my property taxes or 2700 bucks a year so you wouldn't be impacted by it. But 603. So that hate me that's New Hampshire by property taxes or 151000 bucks a year can deduct them anymore at least it did the fifteen to attend. 978. 141000 dollar property tax bill from folks in Wilmington. And islands. Lancaster. Massachusetts 101600. Dollar property tax code and go down property taxes I don't remember that never. Going down he might be an abatement. You know if you buy foreclosed properties of that but it's generally. Tech. Generally pretty. Minor in terms what you get theory that tax cut. Most just here in the New England area to a fine nineteen and there are a number of course. Infrastructure improvements that we have to me. Roads new schools a lot of towns are building new schools. You know that affects our property taxes as well as we have to. Make allotments for making sure that are infrastructure stays stays well maintained. That's right so Hawaii. This time a year and you know the weather's good as aliens and in new England's Dan darkness so why is it gonna be cheaper for folks to a fighter boy. Well looks like the opening up of the market to Southwest Airlines is gonna helped create some competition that night. Results in airlines overall are starting to reduce their affairs. In fact some estimates puts declined by 30%. Across our carriers. On that according to analysis published by Morgan Stanley analyst recently. You know southwest itself has said it's gonna start offering low cost slates the islands by the end of this year. And one way fares to Hawaii currently hover around 200 dollars bet. South west might bring entry level fares to as low was a 10240. Dollars from California so that's significantly different. We actually now have been nonstop. Boston. Private carrier. Maybe all year. There. Some one at the Hawaiian Airlines opened up but non stop. Two two Honolulu. Austin which is BCQ's. You know normally her. Want to be yet Dallas Hawaiian Airlines and why it is O line and it and it hasn't oil prices to record do you see any prices that are I Kim looks them sound desperate first time doesn't read the fifth. I take I have to. I. Mr. honest. As every year at this time a year and go in Everett feet in this tournament skeen are which is great. Just need in the unit. It's pretty expensive island line here if I was looking pricing. Where forum. Seven to 900 dollars but maturity about how far traveling. That he called place you know wise wonderful. I. Have to plan and extensive. You know when it the most for your money. Wondering kids. Let's see here Christine. Friday may tenth to Friday may seventeenth. 640 dollars us a better all nets chief nonstop to ally in me. But that's a new route to. Meet the city can open up percent this issue. No it's open is opened. In the dailies announced in September last year I don't know that started. We covered repertory. I just couldn't win here it would makes institute in the winter because that's what people if people but southwest at any. They're opening up and most of their flights to Hawaii here via California that's okay. California. Anyway you want it California itself. So. I think you'll see use southwest you know keep it in the market August. And chopping. Prices so it should be should be good for travelers. Oprah Winfrey's Weight Watchers straw poll. If you watch this it's now 34%. That's amazing and is it really significant shortfall I'm surprised actually given the numbers that they announced that they didn't preannounce and kind of worn. Tom you know because oftentimes in companies missed by this much is C a preannouncement luckiest he should see that the trend happening during the course of the corner right. But this is the fourth quarter earnings of 46 cents per share. Which is a wave below the sixty cent analysts' estimates I'm really surprised that they didn't give any kind of warning. Sounds like they're trying to change the company into more. As opposed to weight loss company more of the lifestyle company which are not sure. Most of people that I know that joint Weight Watchers did it because of the peer pressure. And their desire to lose weight I don't know that I would join Weight Watchers. To improve my overhaul. You know I don't think there's other ways and other venues. Two to do that and lecturer would use Weight Watchers in that capacity. Yeah you know I was thinking about that too I am wondering if there's in a generational. Mindset that they're trying to tap into here. You know the motto if they had before you know it is. It is good for you know the current generation but he knew younger generations are all about my infamous. They're all about sustainable lifestyles. And that. And the way the approach these issues is different I think that they're liars and younger generation of the ones that are faster in you don't need to. By special food and ordered the sixties. You just don't eat and and you save a ton of money and. And you lose weight crazy. Yeah but they're not going in for the hills server systems during that they just say OK not to eat for 36 hours with him which way things. GE back in the news Christine. Thirty. Thousand workers it shed last year and it now its workforce is at the lowest tally in a decade. Now is a combination of things and in the wasn't home layoffs you know the company shed several units. Selling them. Off and that helped to decline some of it but there are some layoffs as well. Mom so you know really I'm really massive restructuring under the new CEO lose. Focused very hard and trying to reduce the company's debt levels. And he's doing that effectively. IE that the vis their questions that I have are you know we're here innovation where you can make money. Going forward. I still don't have an answer to that they you know they point to the power division but it's limping. Along right now. And what do you have left for unfunded liabilities and GE capital. You know how much to me you know that that's the one that keeps. You know presenting this prices. It yet but neither 51020. Billion dollar write off in G capital. And until they until they can. Clarify their financial situation boy it's tough to justify can't even justified ten dollar and 72%. Price for that Stockton. Yeah I mean I think that. You know a lot of people are assuming that the in aviation exists and this is you know housekeeping that needs to happen C you can start to unlock that spanking your rate there's gonna come a point. Where it can't just be about restructuring existing assets. They're gonna have to show where the growth is gonna come from the future. Be sure. You know the the other day somebody on line past list about their local motor division and they still own it is the answer would be kind. They be spun that off. It sold the majority of it to use to want to act. Anthony is still Holmes let's see. An attorney for 35% of it from the yeah and GE shareholders own 24%. Of it but they're having labor problems in Erie Pennsylvania. That's right at that one factory in looks like Quantum Corp. is not able to reach. A labor agreements with with GE transportation workers there. So things are still in negotiation I guess the unions there were protesting a plan to create. A two tier wage structure on and basically under that structure. On a lower rate would be paid to new and rehired workers whereas existing workers to receive the same rates. Spokespeople for awhile tapper pointing out that current workers there I guess are paid. On significantly while for the region on but they need to. You know reconcile the cost structure. And so with so they're trying to create this two tier model when the prop. That the union says the news that new company can just say well we're gonna make these things and India are we're gonna make these things in Texas. You know those that I'd I'd be careful thought as that union. In terms of negotiating with optic as you could end up having an exodus of all those jobs and that's what companies who do you we saw that the automobile industry. You know the unions get real strong and they start flexing their muscles. And the CEO of the company says a case I think I can do now I have to pay that higher wage does have contracts to feel. But then they're thinking three years out five yourself or get back out of Erie Pennsylvania. That's what happens they at least you know we saw that happen with. General Motors Ford Chrysler might year after year they have these labor problems labor disputes. Company would cave but ultimately those jobs ended up getting offshore. Right and particularly because you know watch at this noting that that Erie Pennsylvania site has been one of the least. Cost competitive sites globally so your point is well taken Barry they could be looking to that featured a few years down the line. Hey when we come back we'll revisit our poll question he we have asked you if your property tax bill is more than 101000 dollars per year. It's our daily poll question had financial exchange showed does John. Vote your conscience and Aaron just vote go to financial exchange O Doug come and test away. There been a lot of people griping about the fact that they're tax refunds were smaller this year or that they had to pay taxes perhaps that. Two in the past. I think the real gripes are going to be coming in April and made. Win the tax filers used to itemize and used to be able to deduct state and local taxes. Or that they had not anymore. And I think a lot of people are stuck with scarcely larger federal income tax bills that's just my pain. We asked the question today is your property tax bill more than 101000. Dollars per year. And Christine this is you know shocking when you think about it on a national. 24% of our listeners are paying more than 101000 dollars a year property taxes. I mean new England and much of the northeast tends to have higher bills doesn't it. Will had a sudden. It what is things to people be watching out for buried that you recommend as people start thinking about taxis in this. Well you know people are already filing the complaints about here at dinner with a woman the other day she gets a lot of money chair. It not what I say a lot to me it's like 5101000 dollars a year. And she went in and hadn't learned that she could no longer deduct for charitable deductions because she used her by her standard deduction was greater. Then her itemized and so you've got people. Bet I edit and I'm not saying that the entire tax bill that was passed was bad. But I think it was much worse for the New England states that it may have been for people that live in Kansas. Or North Dakota or Florida or some of these other states you know where maybe. The we we anybody who lives on the coasts. Including New York Pennsylvania. And that you liked California. They have excessively high property tax bills and those of the people. That I think are gonna get hurt badly and I think that people give a lot of money Turkey and hurt badly. And naked in it could result in fewer charitable contributions. Severe real shame because I mean one of the things I love about our culture here in America is the fact that people are still giving. Whether in went through business or through you know personal. On in you know we see how everybody is always willing to support community organizations that they feel. You know represents are really important cause. Right. Or went. Rewrites and we're talking about income tax returns Christine. I got a spot 5800 dollar tax refunds last year and 2700. Dollars this year and married two kids household and combined income of 120000. Dollars. Now he may have only gotten a refund of 2700. This year. But it may have been his his take home pay was probably substantially higher during the course of the year ray and they need to think about that need to put that away. Throughout the year instead of turning on that refund at the end of the year now that's right those three but I think the days of the big refunds and that's where the biggest complaints have been as. You when you read the stories. It's people sand. I have to pay 2000 I've never had to pay before or its people Sandinista get a 2000 our refund and I got 200 dollar refund. Because it's just an object. Going to be interesting if people start to change their behavior and responsive but you know I mean me. The positive response of course would be that people say narrates a decaying town on nine need to start putting away a little bit each month. In finding ways of doing that right having automatic deductions taken out of your account right after a paycheck into his savings account for snaring that. Always help because and it limits seem not you spend out of your checking account each month raise rates at thinking through strategies like that instead of relying on that one day attack. Prime minister Teresa may agreed. On Tuesday to allow parliament to delayed the United Kingdom's exit. From the European Union if lawmakers again reject her divorce agreement with the blocked. Making it almost certain. That the country will not leave on schedule next month so we had this bricks thing hanging over us for years the couple yours. Sounds like it I don't know we I don't know how this ever ends. And and kind of with a different options are. Yeah I mean it you know it looks like they have no deal and leave. You know on and go through cracks it. On they can strike a deal only packs that are not. You know engage in an accident all in stay with the EU says it's gonna be really interesting to see let's talk about your year the because they'd have to do another referendum state in the EU right I believe so I believe so and looks like the country's soon really split. About whether or not that the that the but now they're saying is at least polls that I rent say that 60% of the people would vote to stay in the European Union. You have to wonder if since the announcement Iran backs that came around in the consequences of that decision are starting did you know become reality and mean. We talked earlier this month in Maine about a story about the town and in the UK that was going to be impacted by an auto manufacturer who's going to be leaving. You know there's a very direct correlation went the jobs. Com and companies' willingness to stay in a country that's not part of that trading block. You know I think one of the big issues was immigration. So suit Rex I think what they learned loses the citizenry is learning. Is that. Even if you have a bricks you still have to allow the immigrants coming to your country saying that looking and it sailed to easy you know we have to pay higher prices are for goods and services. Mike it's gonna lose his job and we still have the immigration grow so maybe Burks wasn't secure role that that we thought it was going to be. Folks if you have not started in a state plane yet. Did we learn anything they are with what did you learn from that testimony that you may not know before Kristi. Well I mean I think it was interestingly. The fact that he actually wasn't questioned that much about his current stance on interest rates from much of it and it seemed as though at the end of the discussion he. Felt the need to kind of clarify his remarks. Mom and so I thought that that was an inch or staying on indication that. You know he met expectations and so people are gonna queried. I'll sit and an interesting about. Him saying that it appeared there is more slack or that means kind of excess capacity in the job market. On and that there's been kind of a stabilization workforce participation. Rates. On and so you know the fact that. In key scene match it's NN it's going to be interesting to see how that weighs Alex. In the month going forward with the economy. I would agree with him on the slack issue he may not be used as on the surface you might say well gee they unemployment rate is 4% and that's very low. And labor participation rate is is is rising and those are both really good indication wanna see that bright been disappointed Christine. He is on wage growth during the last five years you know like I won't I anticipated. That wages by this time. Would be growing at a much faster rate and they've been very slow. To rise corporations. Have done a good job being very efficient and milking. Every bit of work out of their existing labor force that they can before they give price increase or wage increases to their workers. Until what do you think is is is feeling that I mean is it just the efficiency of corporations or do you think that there are other things that work and nine I was kind of wonder when I look at those numbers whether there's. Disparities between their different industries are different regions that affect the numbers. I think. A big portion of Christine is workers. Don't understand what their values on the open market. You know you look you can look at it truck driver you didn't seek to truck drivers one will be working for Wal-Mart make in 95000 bucks a year. And another one will be working for. Another trucking company making 55000 dollars a year. And for whatever reason. Our workforce seems to be resistant to the idea of switching jobs and saying hey I'm gonna leave this company that I've been with for shifting your tonight buyer that that's a loyalty factor. But at the same time. If it's depressing your wage. Sometimes you need to make that move we've all done. Do you think that's. Some of that is hangover from the Great Recession more people are so scared I one argument that now there are gonna hold on the job. I do think that is Kristi you're raising that point I think what's happened is people that survived that Great Recession let's say you're working for Raytheon. And eight differently and he didn't for a view. And your Macon hunter green the year again he could go to work for general dynamics for 120 here. But you're loyal to Raytheon because they kept on the books when times are tough that's just by. Perception that night I could be. Way off base. Those of you who are looking to buy a house are quite certain that the prices are too high. And those of us who are looking to sell our homes say you can't get with the house's really worth. I everybody's very Armstrong Christine Dunn with you here so Wednesday morning and we begin this hour with a refresher conversation about real estate because. Home prices they're still going up but they're not going up at nearly the rate they were couple years ago. And there seems to be more inventory on the market. That's definitely true and you know we're starting to wonder whether or not there's going to be a slowdown in the pace of sales as a wild. On you know while home sales rebounded strongly in our pending home sales are rather rebounded strongly in January. We're starting to see a slowdown in contract signings and a year over year basis that's gonna be interesting to see. You know what that's forecasting for our economy moving forward and and people's willingness to come into the market. It is in the best thing that strikes me is that there still seems to be. An appetite. Among the land deals to buy a house near you look at. That generation and there in their rate of homeownership seat took if you looked at the rate of homeownership for thirty year old today in compared to twenty years ago or thirty years ago. It's very very well. And they're having families and I think what happens is. You know they to have one kid in their living in that one bedroom to bedroom apartment gets pretty tight and have an indicator of third kid and I got she got he got move out. I I I have this sneaky feeling that there's a lot of pent up demand. Among young buyers now I know that there progress has been. Hampered because a student loans in the came out you know win a bad economy but it's simply recover from Christine. Right right I mean. But it could take a lot of time couldn't and in the debt levels are pretty high. And you know their spirit they're trying to see. Whether or not they can afford the standard of living as well I mean. If fine mom millennial starting a family and I am living in Boston was significant the debt levels I'm not just asking myself they're gonna buy a house. But you know I'm looking at the overall cost of living in saying while doing stay here. Or do I turn my fortune summer house is while so that hesitation could also delay the decision to purchase a home is now. It could bet you know you might graduate college and you might be carrying 4050000 dollars for the dead I think those are. You know pretty average numbers for an undergraduate degree. And your wages are low when you began your career and that debt relative to your 50000 dollar salary when he graduated just a lot of money. When you look at that debt and then all of a sudden five years goes by and you're not making 50000 anymore you can 758090000. Dollars a year. Doesn't the management of that student loan debt become a little easier. Yeah you think you would hope so. There and you know if you focus on paying it down right from the beginning you know hopefully becomes unmanageable that goes along. Lot of people filing their taxes now and they're getting surprises. As a released to the deductibility. Of their property taxes can only deduct up to 101000 dollars in state and local taxes. And I can tell you pisses me an issue across the country is about eleven million people. Who are no longer. Able to deduct more than 101000 dollars. In property taxes our question is it not suggesting that it's a good thing or bad thing but her question a poll question is. Is your property tax bill more than 101000. Dollars per year. You can participate in our poll by visiting our website its financial exchange showed dot com. We got a lot of comments and questions on this topic. Given the fact that we're in an affluent community in Florida meaningless pomp. In the end all New England has very high property tax rates are number's going to be substantially higher than the rest of the country. Right now after the first hour of poll. Twenty point 8% of our listeners are paying property taxes greater than 101000 dollars a year. That means a lot of those folks are going to be paying higher income tax levels than they were under a deal tax code. Just curious as to what you're perspective is on it and where you fall in that boot chain if you. And it's exchange showed dot com to vote or Texas with your thoughts on that topic. Are tech's number is 63566. So Ilan mosque is just the story that won't stop giving it I mean this guy manages to be at the top of the news cycles just about every day. But you know in my in my day job we work at collided executives about. Thinking about there you know external communications and snap a call them when your publicly traded company you really have to be careful about how you communicate what you communicate when you communicated. Because you don't wanna say anything material that hasn't been announced and shared with investors on the same time. Inline mask can't seem to get off Twitter and it's getting him into trouble. He is again again he is supposed to be abiding by an agreement with the SEC. That he'll guide by. Protocols in place. To have any statements vetted by an internal company process before saying anything and he violated that. On when he tweeted that Tesla would build a 500000. Vehicles this year. Which is different from what the company announced during its earnings announcement. Beyond the SEC says he has until March 11 to respond to the accusation. That he you know violated its agreement. What do you think they do believe if you seen anything I've never seen it before I don't know of another situation where you have. You know CEO I guess you could go back to you know Jeffrey Skilling in. Enron but it just seems like. I I just don't recall anybody ever being like Elon Musk. Yeah I mean I guess the SEC. Staff filed a motion in federal court that seeks to have mr. mask held in contempt. On and that's you know the raises the stakes around the enforcement. And I don't think he's gonna go to jail learning things 1980 conceived fines he could see other consequences. And you know in unmasking it is his company but he still wants to maintain a good relationship with his board. Rate and I'm just an old all the stock here he ease him he's still a minority stockholder definitely need the beat it's you know what I'm surprised does that. A company like fidelity offers. Like fidelity could just call him and say pay SS view right shut up and it the N or we're gonna dump all your stock now they would take a heck of a loss if they ever did that but it I could. It it wouldn't surprise me if we get to march 11 Christine. It would not surprise me if the SEC said mr. musk you can no longer be the CEO of a publicly traded company you must step down. And somebody on the board test take your position you can be an officer of the company you can still. The creative director that you were no longer. Going to be the CEO and and I just don't see the board putting up with this. Yeah I definitely don't see the board putting up with this and in their very definitely gonna have to clamp down on on how he communicates and what he says there's no question that. He's been brilliance. In terms of conceptualize new company in all the products that it makes. But you don't wanna put all of that hard work at risk over not being able. Controlling your tweets. Under the problem he has you know as a company forgetting the his inability to. Control his verbal diarrhea. It that big problem he's got is there's a lot of competition coming into the marketplace full boat just announced that they're coming up with a rival to the model three. And it's gonna cost. 4045400. Dollars for the Opel product at a tie yeah. You know you buy a car from pole. You know it's gonna be a reliable vehicle it's atrocity grant it is definitely a trusted and people are willing to spend the money noble was particularly families. You know they really trust the browns didn't he deal they'll come out this car. If the bumpers are going to be falling off and they're they're not going to be having some of the same service issues I suspect. That that Tesla having. The only knock on this car in Indio thing I would remind people as these cars are being made in China. And it will be available for sale next year. We'll see that it changes the landscape. Talking about five G technology and I think we're all gonna learn a lot more. More about this technology whether we want to or not. We're gonna learn about it. Not available yet. But it's being rolled out in certain markets across the country Kristi. Definitely. A lot of. Possibilities just the sheer power of it allows for you know better management of things lake. You know the Internet of things type of devices everything from. You know in home on wireless devices to drive those cars and and how they interact with each other on the road. They say on the driver Lewis cart technology you're not really gonna happen to our scars until this is fully adopted to another you've got to have this. Like for you if you wanted to in Miami. You've got to have five feet in Miami Q what driver it was cart technology in Boston you've got how. Five G in Boston or Springfield or whatever market you're here you're looking yet. Because it just won't work it has to be rapid fire and that's the big difference five G compared to four G. It's just exponentially faster and and that's the best thing that you know that you have to have for the for the automobiles. There's say it could impact sports viewing that that's somewhat interesting Nike the the virtual reality headsets that you might go to where to go to hockey schemer. Football game. It would be a lot better yet five G tech. Yes things are being able to choose which view you used so for him to pick of the camera on the back of a quarterback or Sammy house on the field during a football game men. People would be able to choose that view and watch the game from that point of view. Mint technology is very robust because you know it just it has a better ability to. Manage all of those different kind of simultaneous connections that happen. Mom and dad and so it's gonna do is you know companies and governments and Aaron on batter. Inner connectivity opportunities near talking about the fact that they're reduce latency which is basically that lag that you sometimes you get with wireless connections. Will make it easier for factories Saito leverage it you know with their production plants. And we'll make things hopefully more efficient and that way. It's. I guess he knew that that the biggest did biggest difference for me you know just from my viewing list. The medical care and you know let's say you need to have. Open heart surgery. But you live in Bangladesh right. Will your view of the have a surgeon from New York do your surgery you your surgeon will be in New York. Operating a robot. Doing your open heart surgery year Euro whatever danger having done. From thousands of miles away and that to me as like whole week's boxy like that talk about making medical care. Available too much greater degree that's a huge weekend. Yeah I mean the benefit. Senior are in numerous I think that there the thing Lance. And it's gonna have to think about is this infrastructures implement it is also cyber security aspect of things. Because what this does it also makes all of those networks of more vulnerable to hack. And so if you think about everything that we can be connected on through the Internet of things. Right if you have your home completely connected to Internet things everything from your home security Q refrigerator could be subject to hock. So you need to also think about the security aspect of things at the same time that you're reaping the benefits. We did it what do you think the tolerances for higher fees mean you'd week everybody's anticipating five G technology and China is already doing it so we have to implement it. But the cost is enormous I was reading Verizon's cost is going to be twenty billion dollars just to get started. Yeah any you know that's that's something I was thinking about achieve because thief phone makers were trying to. Increase the price of the Smartphone so much earlier if you're trying to raise prices and devices that much but then you have to implement this infrastructure at some point consumers have been saying. Just don't want to switch. Put it there we are you willing to pay more for five G now I mean at this point I'm not given night cost. You know when year when you're trying to pay for phones for a family of four family of five. And then the price can get pretty exorbitant pretty fast. Earnings news just your phone for work purposes it like is there. Do you have been on the Internet. You have no I'm at my element and hearing no I don't at Kmart for it and actually. I keep asking myself how can they keep my phone for a longer BK is. He just feels like these phones die after a couple of years and and I want us muscle longer than. Pedal how long have you had your phone yeah now well this one is only about a year old it's. You know when I I use my from constantly I mean it's just my my joke with my local apple stories dot you know I where at least I Wear these funds. On and so you know my averages you know I tightest squeeze two and a half to three years out of them I can get more a matter and om and see it last longer than. Because the phones we have now even if you go out and spend. I don't know the what's the top of the line phone from apple. The ten cent doses he had a tennis is at the big one Tucker yes Boca. So in the cost of that as well thirteen 14100 bucks now. In that doesn't even have five G five G enabled exile. That was one of the reasons I didn't buy into April this year iphone's two and a half years old. And I put a new battery in it and I'm waiting to climate next fold them up hoping that my next phone a figure Apple's next generation apple to price via the fall. They're not gonna be releasing five G this year. The default won't have five you know zero chance. Real them then Z you're going to be for in terms of example he's you're going to be waiting until point one for five Agee. While as it's a time for the network to actually develop and set up you know in full force. If you think that the areas that we're broadcasting to new England and west palm Florida. Those are all very affluent communities it be easy you just look at the money that's in those communities that's where you'd go verses and its urban. It's it it's wealthy so they can afford the technology I would take it you know if I'm Verizon or AT&T apps and hate. I want it took to New England area I wanna get to you know bill South Florida as quickly as I can because I've got customers there. Can afford to buy the product manufacture. Right at that interconnectivity of the device in the device manufactures have to you have to punitive product market. They're gonna wait until we can tap into before there and the further from. My my guesses in my attackers I think you're going to be waiting longer you might have to stick another batter in their Perry yeah that's your. Under current phones like it allows more in five g.s and fully implemented ruled out. Right now desirable ones via have to buy one more phone before it says right now. Irrevocable trusts that are designed to protect assets from the owners now verses. Eight re vocal bull family type trust. The biggest difference between the two is that the re vocal trust will never protect assets from the nursing a five years ten years doesn't matter how long your assets are an. But with an irrevocable trust after the assets have been put in there for five years. Then they will be protected from the cost of long term care that's really the difference let's rarity pain attorney to draft trust to revote Kabul can I just go and have them change it to and you're vulnerable trust. So many people love to do that you could but no. You actually have to start over the language of the trust itself is key. They tested twenty products Christine five wines and fifteen different types of beer. And they found traces of the carcinogen. Going posse might pronouncing that right side by Foss sabres since yes sounds very it's an exercise that yeah it at the same stuff and roundup. They found traces of it in. Five winds fifteen Beers. The tested wines include Beringer barefoot. And Sutter home in the Beers included talker Budweiser coerce. Miller Lite Sam Adams. Samuel Smith organic and new bull Belgium so like it's everywhere this. Gala I mean yeah on the one hands on he never would like to hear of the stuff using your food and in your links. But on the other hand I mean so many people have used roundup over the years it takes awhile for it to get out of the soil. So you have any kind of runoff or. You know I think a lot of on vineyards used roundup to help kill the weeds around the vines. On their use in these lions for a long time. So it's not entirely surprising that they they did say and there are reports that the levels did not exceed. You know US EPA Environmental Protection Agency requirements so. They're saying that it's at a level that's not gonna have an impact on health but of course. You know in the past this particular carcinogen has been linked to cancer and and other problems and that's why people are so sensitive to. Play if you stop using it today but I've got a container that my gripes of my throw that out it don't use it anymore. Still takes twenty years to unanimous so often. This is there more you know NASA. It's there for the long term. Fiat Chrysler plans Michigan plant expansions and they're gonna create 6500. Jobs you'll hear the story that got very often. No other uses is an opportunity. To build three cheap models including an electric vehicles so again more competition I guess you could say for Tesla. Because they're trying to me that more in increasing demand for suvs verses sit dance. So the good news on the jobs front on they're going to be spending about four and a half billion over three years in order to update those plants. That's good news in their you know that 6500. Full time jobs right in an area of the country needs them. Right it and that's and neck still an economically depressed area as compared to say California or the East Coast. At the same time they didn't mention that there are laying off a little more than thirteen hundred people. In Illinois where they make Jeep Cherokee so the Nat Nat is still you know it's still a positive step forward. But there will be some adjustments need in the models that there are focusing. Wynn Resorts has been fine twenty million dollars for its repeated failure to respond properly to sexual misconduct allegations against its founder. And former CEO Steve Wynn. These stories just never ending in a regardless of how much I remember back in the 1980s. Going through sexual harassment training because that was when. You know the big first wave of lawsuits started to hit and company said holy cow this is really affecting your bottom line so they would train all their executives and employees. About sexual harassment training and training people since you know the late seventies early eighties that seemed to work. Yeah and the Nevada gaming commission says that this fine is the largest city is ever let Bates so it's really trying to emphasize that takes the issue very seriously. On you know when executives. You know aren't there are you know seeing that in their focusing on a single man rather than. The the you know employees and you know I think than Nevada gaming commission is trying to say look puny you have to take this seriously the stock is down 35%. And the Wall Street Journal published an investigation about the allegations. Here's the thing I think at some point. Stockholders. Will wake up and say hey you can't have executives. Pulling this stuff because it how many times it seems like every month we're hearing about one or two executives. That are being. Let go. And we're we're talking like chief executives chief investment officers who I suspect Christine just think they're above the law brightly in the they KK I found this company this is my company I can do whatever want will really get it right you are if you choose to you may be shown the doors yet stockholders. I think also these executives on come from may pre digital media Arab. And what they're learning in addition to what you just mentioned Barry is it's they can't hide it anymore comes out right. Right. If fingered it strikes me is it just that. You know. The these are not young guys like Steve Wynn was in the seventies right I mean you could pull on the craft for twenty years then and and he'd do better in and he just he just said hey I hung in. I'll do it or how I want it and you know I started the company and I can get away and the problem is. They appoint guys to the board rate they tend to appoint their friends their bodies during this it who overlook their misgivings in their transgressions. That's a thing about me you go back to Tesla. You think about Tesla situation. In a look at who's on the board for tests those are all his buddies Larry Ellison unity UT's go down that list. Lot of them are handpicked by Elon Musk I don't know if they'll feel good or excellent. But general does not force them to you and and if it starts affecting Nyad. You know the performance of the company if consumers start voting as we're seeing with Papa John's. You know they might not have any choice Ximian Papa John's is another company that has been. Wracked by a now comments and misstatements by the former CEO. You would he do he he he was he was accused of being a race straight isn't that as he did he made some racist comments he used their racial slur. During comparable I'll call that's right yeah on an investor cry user racial learn. And then he also. Blame the NFL's leadership and the handling of some of those you know player protests. On and you know Papa John's is now struggling to engage with consumers and so for the fifth straight quarter they reported declining sales. That it and in that business rate you've got pat same store sales growth and their same store sales are down 8% eight point 1% nine point 8%. Yeah. Eight that you'd imagine you paid big money for franchise. And now it's you know if it's the skids because you're CEOs of dope CEO by the ways out he's he's gone. If a new CEO doesn't seem to be doing much better he he he may not be making racial slurs but he's not run company protective. We can't figure out how to engage yeah he everything he's tried so far is not resonating with consumers and they're saying nope. So Olympic athletes. And it got Donald fare on their side. Talking about unionizing with Cecil. Well they're wondering if they she unionize because they do feel like current governance procedures. Are are potentially hurting them a number of fronts. On first of all on safety. He. You know. Trial of that doctor on blaring answer. Two was found to have abused over a number of years countless gymnasts. Has worried a lot of athletes. On the finish so sue the issue of earnings potential and whether the current structure. And how things are run is is hurting the earnings potential of these athletes who you know really behave like professional athletes in a lot of ways now. They more I mean let's face it you're olympians. I don't care where your swimmer hockey player shot putter unity that's your job in me you talk to even division one college athletes. Bill today that they're deer at the gym or in the film room. 3540 hours a week it's a full time job if you wannabe college division one college athlete even if your division three you probably talked and 2530 hours a week. To be an Olympian night court is if it's that's all you do in if you wanna stay on that Olympic team ever keep your Olympic spot. That's your job. Should they be compensated. Boy you know they sure bring in a lot of money to open the thing about how much money generated TV contracts for the Olympics hard to understand why some of that shouldn't go through to the athletes. But I wonder about unionizing immunity just replacing one structure with another and Qaddafi restrictive as well. So I Agassi kind of asset as well as is it more about the current structures I understand it changes need to happen. Beyond diet is an easy union the answer on that note Donald's hair did pretty well by the baseball players back in the nineties. They'd be the owners may not like them in the fans still like him but put the players love race so then I guess and I guess it's also about. Making sure that the average. Player does while the average athlete does well that's right to unlocking the individual media and how the security athlete today from the small country verses. The athlete from the United States you know that he could be vastly different athletes. Lifted over. They're both going public the speculation is that list local public sometime in March. And Cooper will go some public some time in I'm hearing second or third quarter. 2019. It would you would you buyer there at the stocks on the IPO proceeds. I know of they've be really popular here I think that it's an interesting question that was raised about how do you. Value these companies you know what are the measures and went to keep PI is and you know until I read this article Barry I hadn't really. Thought that the group but it's true I mean we always kind of lumped these in this you know part of that shared economy. But they are such different new models. You know how does this fit in than in the currents you know ways in which analysts typically value things I think it's an excellent question. And how and how how do you evaluate. And when will they ever make money. Muted again that's the the question that I I get from form from other analysts and when I talk to friends about us they want you to buy shares of lift on the IPO. And in the question is at least. Okay well you know they're losing billions of dollars a year now what's gonna change after the initial public offering. And you the FT yet like if you read the prospectus and you read the offering documents. They'll tell you what some point we're gonna go driving us and once they going to drive us technology.
