Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and sharks done us. Optimism regarding any trade deals with China. Is the leading stocks higher with the Dow up 145. Points but. We moments ago got some information as it relates to inflation that has me. A little quick answer or talk about the I everybody's buried chocolate you can hear it over to my camp. Well I don't know no I I never did he would have not allowed and if you're not allowed to camp jock I'm not a not a not a camp truck guy but. I I I saw some inflation data in and I talked to an economist. This morning a lot of respect for. And I said yeah we've EU look at the CPI data over the line. Year to run and what about 2.2 percent to two it's it's up from if we go back to January of eighteen we're a one point 8% meaning rate of inflation today were two to let me guess just because I haven't talked about the C I'm curious if what he pointed out is the same thing that got my antenna up I want to the last. Ninety days I said I wanna see. You know game and maybe I maybe I'm doing this wrong maybe I should be looking at the last 120 your last 150 days but a cut if you. You'd be Dick granular folks and you say to yourself OK with C inflation data over the last ninety days two point 7%. And you know what stands out to me in particular was. Commodities one of the pieces that makes this up up point 4% for the month and that's something that to me boats that eventually those commodity costs are gonna have to get past the room and if profit margins are gonna stay is wise they are so there's two options either. A companies can't pass through those increased commodity cost of prices go up for all of us our or beat they can't in margins go down and that's not great news for the stock market. Well we you know only time will tell on it's it's too early to get nervous about it and clearly stock investors are not worried about we unity you know iron. You know looking at some things it in a different told. You know the Dow is up 134 points and this is the the stock gains were seen this morning I think. Are related to optimism regarding China US trade. Yet I think people can spin it on whatever they want to but yeah it's really. People are saying look they're gonna keep drinking from the punch bowl until the punch bowl gets dangerous just like it did back at the end of the year so. At this point you know even with some of the concerns on international growth even with as you mentioned inflation in the last ninety days start and look like it heat up a little bit and even with those things going on. Investors are still saying. They looked at it when we're trying to balance you know greed and fear is that's what it comes down to write greed is outweighing fear right now that's the only thing I can say conclusively. To howl. He you know backed off his rhetoric as it relates to raising interest rates yeah. How high does that rolling ninety day number have to get before he acknowledges it has. At two point 7% I think when it's get three inference that gets a three and and he's got to acknowledge and got a raise rates. Well here's doesn't. It this is where you get into a you're real battle as far as what Jerome Powell is going to be is fed chair in that this I think is going to be one of the most fascinating things to watch because when Powell first came on and for the first. Ten months of his ten year. He talked he was a hockey you know up until December 24 and he was saying look it's all systems go we're gonna keep doing this and I don't know what changed his mind exactly. But there's been a big pivot that's happened recently and so the question that I see. Is whether or not he's going to decide to be Paul Volcker who threw the US economy into a recession in order to call him all the inflation and save the dollar. Or if he's going to say you know what I'm gonna be Alan Greenspan what's at this party keep going as long as a camp right now it looks like he's a party. Right now he looks like he wants to party on and an in look from from the perspective. Of an asset owner whether it's stocks bonds real estate commodities would ever it is. I think there's no more important piece of information over the next decade then what inflation is what the Fed decides to do with. What are you now. Rules we'll see if inflation here. Here's the thing since 1982. And we have really seen any inflation it's been. We've been in a low inflation moderate growth environment that has been phenomenal for stocks that I would like to seize wage inflation running maybe 4%. You get wage inflation at four you're gonna easily see CPI up 33 and a half and hurry. That would be okay. Well yeah I think it depends who you're talking about it would be great if you're still working you know if you're now working if you are you retire and come right. You are getting slammed by that kind of thing in the other and keep in mind. Inflation's not a different vote. They usually the only people who vote you know it and in here's the other thing that I always keep in mind if you go back and look at the 1970s as an example. Terrible period for stocks. Terrible period for bonds inflation wreaks Havoc with a portfolio what did Weldon a real estate did well and you had gold and commodities doing. And so I think there. Again I've I've talked about this for the last year night and acting like I'm close to finally coming to fruition on the so I'm I'm kind of excited. I feel like we were turning the corner here and it's something that all investors at the need to be aware of his it is a huge shift away from me deflationary environment to. And he hedged how does it somebody's driving down the road now and they're saying okay trucks right how to hedge. You try to turn into the bye gold guy aren't you. I mean hate it it seems to me be pretty good time owned heart it's not talking gold of saying. You know do you go out and in by physical silver did you go out by real estate. It may only love you buy it wrongly and all the above its those types of things for the counter balances that you need. In your portfolios if you think inflation is coming just a pain to alone it's it's steadily going gold could get a store while he would I don't like owning a realistic do you pay taxes. Here's the other thing they'll say when you're building a portfolio for the last thirty years investors have not had to worry about their bonds being really at risk at all you know in the short term may be a little bit bun you know you concede yet things like we did with the killing fields and bonds back in the seventies where. If you at a ten year treasury that you bought in 1976. You lost 35% on napping before the day was over just because of how high inflation expectations. So I think to be picked inflation's coming. Get shorter on your bonds get more an international get in the tips given all those types of things because conventional bonds treasurys and long term corporates. They get whacked in inflationary environment US China trade. Made you know the obviously somebody knows something the Dow's up a 140 points on the river anyone knows anything on this I think a lot of people think they like to know some president's already alluding to go back off the march 1 deadline. Yet it in I think we all saw that coming you know it's we were sitting here I think it was nice Friday. His base does not like. And it's you know it's in his base now. Is saying that demonstrates weakness on the part of the president. The fact that he's extending this. If they didn't like the the extension in December I don't disagree with them them on that I do think he is you know extending this. And not necessarily driving as part of a bargain as he shouldn't look I'm someone who was critical of how this all started when but since then I've said look now you're in this. You've you've got to really drive this home you've got to really tried the otherwise you add it all these tariffs and everything for nothing. Chinese would just keep talking. And screwing us it is my perception. And that they. I agree you know if it if this is what we've seen from Chinese negotiators in the past where it's all they did it in a give an example your member of the African open we're gonna your bank's commend that we were just can you remember before Christmas I think it was either right before may be right after and there was the report that came out that China was going to you know try to as part of their proposal they were gonna try to balance trade with the US over the next six years. And then as you looked into some of the details that came out of that it was all kind of back loaded so it was well we can't balance now balance of the year for five and six. In and right as rain you know that what would happen would be you get the a four years out it's. Well we're just kidding you know what we can't really balance right now so let's set a new timetable for end. I just think that it's from the perspective China is trying to get away from the US dollars they made that very clear over the last couple years China is also trying. To become a major. Really major center of influence when it comes to infrastructure projects and things like that that the US is so has historically led. Through the rest of the world. And I just think that if you are looking at this negotiation. Those goals are incompatible with what the US wants. And I and that's why I think that any deal you get isn't going to be is because we were speaking of deals. Is NAFTA ever and yet signed it's not called NAFTA and with the cult. But still is right now until the new deal goes into effect us much US MCA about Iraq smoked a Smucker. Smut or maybe it's you smoke you smoke. I don't know what is caucus in congress that are passes. So if you look at this and there's disagreements from both sides. As to whether or not you're going to be able to get this new US Mexico Canada trade agreement. Through. You've got Democrats who are saying look this is giving enough protection to workers you've got Republicans saying hey this is DO inhibiting free trade too much. And so. With you know kind of both sides you know seeing a little bit of erosion is far support for the so what happens in the past. So if if they don't pass this in theory NAFTA continues to exist as is blocked. The president could go back to congress and say look I mean terror NAFTA you get ninety days to approve this some and that would be the threat is that the president could say look I'm gonna start a process for me is Vanessa after beating them for him. I mean politicians do things that are self defeating all the time now you know and in in look at depends from what perspective you're looking at it if you're looking at president trump trying to appeal to his base specifically and the notes not self defeating. If you look into and trying to appeal to independent voters and crossovers which earned atomic crossovers these days and then that is that those people were voting for the president anyways. Well no news on NAFTA coming up we have that we can do it. People leave here is a story that I talk to the great oh in terms of journalism yet took great offense to this article here are three. Stupid things millennial waste money and it's those stupid things that everyone else waste money on after. Every every age group waste money on dumb things we could make a list liable to Weaver. To repeat that on warmer time of year are the top three stupid. Things millennial waste money says Kevin the year okay continue. A few problems with the headline to be honest all I got a major problem with that number one since when is Kevin O'Leary had a rejection of you know what is stupid per caves on shark tank. You know but I'll I'll stop there and will continue. The number one item. It. Stupid colonials waste money yet nobody said. Users know not know the headline maker did this temporal Leary says these three things are in general bad copy fourth. Four dollar copy nothing new molecules. A producer everyone buys were dollar coffee night and I am I I've never been a guy goes into Starbucks and buys for her. I'm Michael fetal. I don't do that I'd I'd I'd buy coffee made you want to settle him. I we are looking past is easier to do it every time I wasn't looked now yeah spending that money on diapers yes. Off in the top four dollar coffee. Shoes you don't need more than four pairs of shoes at night I disagree that. And I'm repairs do you think you need. I need six. I'm telling in this crawl yet bunkers you speakers sneakers these liberals they handles boots flops an atmosphere black shoes pair brown shoes and acting you know maybe just conflict casual players I am with six. I don't know that level waters I don't council play but not. Well and then we millenniums by too many layers of blue jeans evidently. It is nobody should own three pairs of staggering. I've for I have three get to decent ones that I live where and then of yet can get one Payer around the house doesn't count as I can cycle down in that third pair depending on. I am curious about the copy is a yeah obviously people are. Going to Dunkin' Donuts and deal on a Starbucks. In the stores are writing right. And people are spending money there do you make your coffee at home or do you buy it elsewhere now on the guy. I have a couple of confidently in the office. Two cups here but I'd make myself. And secured make some yourself what. There's no option for me the same thing. So you do the math in your K cups so how much is each take up thirty cents thirty cents. So I sort of got. Anywhere nice sixty and ninety cents today on copy. As opposed to four bucks and start you have an option for non coffee drinkers like you know me you you're not invited the poll. The game's going to be in retail and we don't like your kind here do you make your copy at all or do you buy it elsewhere our poll question today in Texas appeal like 6356. Sixes or text number. Unfortunately there's no companies were island really Nam from one about it yet here techsters girls and I'm home. Yeah so anyway that's kind of would now be so time. Let's talk about Apogee knows they're trying to turn it around why would anybody buy pizzas in jeans it's like sinful but from what I perspective is just awful. Pete's view of the beats. Them I used average pizza the why you're so my question to both of why would anybody die. Domino's. Pop a gene those pizza huts is cheap and readily available they think is that people get this Seattle Lou cheap when you go to your local pizzeria on us is actually taste it idle loop opportunism at Domino's. I don't either at the pop geniuses step below via your dominoes yet to parts of the world editor. You know I think they've got some pretty good stuff they're having it's it's it's a locally based company at least it was until went through the whole buyout and everything in the fall where they you know closed doors and exit closer vast majority of the stores there redesign. The top jeans so maybe me maybe in new guy coming in. Who worked with Travis overeat Dunkin' Donuts. Maybe in new guy coming in turn it around. They're gonna go smaller still worse you know lot fewer or story is they closed. 60% of last year. But if they don't have. Hometown pizza I'm bind. But I they I like I I go to this place called oil in an art and it's just. Really good pizza yeah I mean I prefer the local pizza joint to. I think that's what pop GAO's. Pretty much is to a bigger scale because it's new wing and center. You mean you in your town we have options. We have Julius topic gene knows yet and I don't know of anybody we have a lot of pizza options we have three shops. The only reason people go to these these actors like after a sporting event the bill because they can fit. A big group where's the little small mom and pop shop via via mightily be at exit eight people are people. Canada I remember growing up you know it was you know the end of the BM ball soccer season and I am going to pop Jeanne exact and every Wednesday that's the only reason you would go yeah I think it again your parents ever subjected topic in his as a child. Would you at the I just that they did he bill Petit and I'm talking about besides the aft after sporting event. With the by bringing it home for supper no we have Deo local place. I would I would get pop genius for supper. Or dinner you would bearish report but it's good it's if it's may correctly which is in Papa Joe's problem. It's good do you think they survive these indicate the it is that. But all the new money coming in that new hedge fund that owns them I think that the big problem for them as they lost an awful lot of good will with what went down over the the full. Unity yet an awful lot of stores that to shutter late in the consumers do they care about that. I employees Agassi broke locally based company yes if one of if one of the key selling points is hey this is a local New England chain and in the treated there employees in that fashion. If it does because there's an awful lot of people. That know someone who worked at one of those stores. And that you know lost their job unexpectedly had no idea what was coming. Near that they handled that really bad I see is a from a consumer perspective I think they care about price convenience cleanliness. But I don't think the here too much about how would you loses its New England thing and I'm Tony that there's some in the air India in in how they sell is a market there in now that it's not. You know locally owned company night I wonder if they're going to be able to have. Success coming up we'll take a look at the markets were also to be talking about household debt. Time now full Wall Street watch a look at the market's performance so far today you still barring him chug right here on the financial exchange radio network. Things are looking good on Wall Street I get the ten year treasury trading at. Two point 71%. Golds at thirteen dollars thirteen sixteen an ounce crude oil 54 dollars a barrel. And stocks up across the board chuck NASDAQ up 32 points down 146. Points S&P up twelve points across the board. A lot of good things happening on Wall Street with surprising to me is the ten year treasury still hovering at that. 271. Or anything it would be higher and higher or higher I I think that's a really good thing to watch over the next couple months just because I think if inflation continues to build. I think that's going to be something where even if the Fed isn't moving rates he may have the return of the so called bond vigilantes. Who was coming and saying look if inflation's gonna start running 33 and a half percent. We're not gonna be content to take 2% on the that you're on treasurys down as it's. I don't know the it. There's some things that make me nervous in the market. Look at this if you are coming over to camp John Allen not look at this site owners it's it's taken a year but may look I'm excited to Malaysia new man this is great household debt. See this I did he's eighteen quarters in a row which is not unusual to see household debt increasing not and they just. Natural. If it's actually a problem if it doesn't increase. We we have an economy that largely for better for worse is based on. Increased debt being able to generate economic activity. Household debt now to thirteen point 54 trillion. Even though new mortgage originations were actually down a little bit nod down to 401 billion dollars last year from 445. Got interestingly enough balances on home equity loans fell to the lowest level in fourteen years as a six trillion dollars. Now I can't deduct them anymore and untapped equity in people's homes can't deduct them which to be honest I don't think is a bad thing it's a very good I think being a little bit more responsible not a bad thing at all given how we got into trouble. About ten years ago people are used in their house as an ATM which is it a really good sign for the help of the consumer. What is starting to get a little concerning is the auto loan area. Not originations last year 584. Billion dollars from the best year in nineteen years. But it also tells you look if you're having debt to continually borrow more in order to finance the purchase of vehicles and it's not necessarily a sustainable way for that industry to grow and I think that's part of the reason why you're seeing some of the cutbacks that we're seeing among the auto makers now is they're kind of saying. Hey look things being good to this point the world little nervous about demand going. Here the numbers seven million Americans asked him to. Seven million. People across the country are more than ninety days delinquent on Karl. There that's already concern right and he just think that's needed place. It's it's concerning from the perspective of those house most of them are under thirty those households are battered thrown like I haven't had a little bit of thirty is that actually true over yes the the bull come more under 38 net. So it's yes we can tell I'm just quoting here Tucker non believer most of the people who are behind on their bills. Have low credit scores and are under age thirty suggesting. Young people are having difficult time paying for their cars in the student loans at the same time. Yet and in auto loans to be fair they're not going to be something that I think drags the economy down because it's so much smaller than student loan debt and so much smaller. Been what you have outstanding for mortgage Denton but I do think it is the kind of thing where. If the economy starts to slow. These loans are gonna go belly up and Corey for the seven million of you you are a lot of three months behind here's here's where the banks. EC dot if you if you read. A bank's quarterly report. They nickel with hot money. On sub prime Ottawa and they know they screwed up after 2015 it was all 1415 and a little bit and 2016 when they were trying to make all this money on these sub prime. I don't they were broke into the and they were making loans to people that they probably shouldn't have with wit here at the numbers. If you're carrying a fight score of 650. The past 48 week which by the way you can still get. And at an FHA loan mortgage and with with a 640 years 650 yep we use it to 650 by a score and you go to buy a car. You're gonna be pain. Fourteen and a half to 20% interest to buy that car. Fourteen the in these are middle and an honor to buy it won't put on a credit card will in the current. Deceptive in the way they do you walk into the dealership in the prime primer of this has done it used car dealerships right. You go into CarMax in the sale will finance it for you say you'll. What's the with the industry while it that your monthly payments going to be 400 all you apple with the interest rates. Well it's 409 dollars and 63 cents a month. Yeah but with the interest rates or the interest rate is 20%. Don't finding it eat don't finance your car at the deal bush is my advice to. It's so when I bought my car that I currently have which was five years ago I did finance the deal which reviewed new cars even in Heintz and I wouldn't do it again just. That the dealers but I love my Subaru than. They stuck me with a loan servicing company. Will look at the US national debt clock is edit thing it's still thing in the used to be in New York I don't know if they still have. The big wall got a website now they have let's say it's better you vote you wanna you wanna see it yet it's. This is the debt clock there they'll look at they got all kinds different things so they have the total US national debt they have debt or how to how much to Ohio. I do wanna be yourself as a six enters a taxpayer. Citizens 66998. Dollars as a taxpayer 179805. So published my granddaughters. There are citizens each one of them was about 67000 dollars right now you're born U 66. Just for being born what other numbers do we want to have here. You know let's see you over the largest budget items guess what the Medicaid budget for this year mr. Medicare slash Medicaid admin 1000000000088. Billion dollars. Guess what these Social Security budgets for this year. And more than Medicare just last one trillion for billion that the deficit or the no that's this that's the expense and welcome this year. An update as people age never absolutely should we do should we end Medicare and Social Security as I don't why don't you stop sending them the Social Security checks for years I don't think they'll be very popular nine of the net that's how you solved it. Well they'll pay it seniors to. Who. Do boy he picked any number of them I'm not going down this rabbit hole for so yeah you've got the US national debt now north of 22 trillion dollars now almost 67000 dollars a personal get above 67000 person I believe in the next day or two but we always had a national. But it wouldn't George Washington cut down on the apple tree to him on national we have there's a fundamental issue that's made things a little bit different and if you look over the last. Fifty years the key way that we finance the US debt is by getting. Foreign investors to buy. So we have to self finance what that does it helps keep capital following year it helps keep us being able to invest our capital instead of just pain for our debt ourselves. But there's been a key divergent since 2015. Were foreign investors have effectively stopped buying new with you new US national down as a whole line went something like listen well. I think the big reason if you look at one of the biggest buyers from the early 2000 China China wants to get away from the US dollar and so in doing so. They want to say look we don't want to be dollar dependent anymore we don't wanna be threatened with sanctions every time we do something that the US doesn't like if the when they buyer Boeing jets have to borrowed all they do right now but eventually they might have to -- the biggest buyer it's it's I look at it no different from oil where China is trying to set a ball these swaps and everything to buy oil in their own currency and they're doing it because they are now the biggest importer of oil in the world in assets they've got more market power than we do. Going forward a bit if your Saudi Arabia and if you're wrong annual and sell oil to the Chinese had paid. Wolf the Chinese say hey this is how we're gonna payrolls. You're gonna it literally say we're what do they paid him one. So what China is also trying to do it's it's a fascinating experiment see if they can do it China's trying to set up. Effectively a contracts for oil that is backed by gold in the convertible into any other currency of their choose excellent theory society saying uranium. It did then you have to rely on China having an ethical prisoners will Chinese imported a boatload of gold over the last decade that suggest they might actually have enough to make this work now China's been trying to set up these oil contracts for years and they've never really been able to get critical mass because that they've just always struggled with the infrastructure getting people to trust the platforms of those tasks and trust the Chinese and like. In light problems yet but it in my the only one that doesn't trust the Chinese. No I think a lot of people who've done business in China have a general skepticism for doing business with either Chinese companies or the Chinese Government let's say you or let's use Iran is as an example. Why would be rather sell their oil to China than French. Boy they wouldn't put it the answer is in China or the French and the answer would they rather price their oil and you want or dollars and here's why they they're going to Michael JU want here in Iran which is an enemy state. Right wouldn't they rather get paid in dollars you know here's here's why. Because when the US sanctions them they can't use any of that money they can use the swift system to actually make payments and some of that cigarette have won the nothing. Yes. That's that's effectively the trade they're making me in and what you're seeing now is that even you know countries that aren't necessarily on one side or the other of countries they're kind of look at middle ground EU right now are saying hey we might even start to facilitate this is well why. They're not at war. They're not but they want Iranian oil and Iran right now is saying look this way that we're gonna have to facilitate payments going forward and that's kind of the nature of the beast. That there. The next five years will see some of the biggest geopolitical shifts that we've seen since the seventies. Up next we're gonna talk about a fix to social security act I don't like it I think you might tutors. Alicia but now I don't know if you still Boston College not the she used to be. She is an idea as a relates to fixing Social Security I think you're gonna like it that's next on the financial exchange. Does isn't stunt to quote your portfolio. It's our daily poll question had financial exchange showed Doug John. Vote your conscience there hard just vote. Go to financial exchange oh does come and test away. I want to thank you guys an advance force securing my Social Security retirement benefit. You're welcome. Your taxes or blogs. This so they know Alicia and now. Who I am pretty sure she was at Boston college and maybe she still lose. Came wrote an article. About media. A plan to fix Social Security as it is gonna go bust in 33 yeah we got about fourteen years to go on the clock for Social Security the payments will be reduced by about a quarter yet but he and but that's assuming congress doesn't do it. Correct right. And she's come up with who the with what would happen to be they would congress wants to enhance the plan which would be using the Consumer Price Index. To adjust benefits of meaning your inflation data would go a little more than it has yet thank. I actually really like this plan I do to be honest so what it and what it does it moves this the CPI to a slightly more aggressive ones of the benefits actually get a little bit more of a boost for inflation. That the two biggest provisions in here though. Are that it's going to raise the payroll tax for twelve point 4%. But point 1% a year until reaches fourteen point eight in 2043 so it's okay with that because I'll be retire. It's it's over 25 year period and so I think it's it's gradual something that works in nicely. The other thing that I like here is that if you right now Social Security earnings the taxable ones are capped at a little over 130000. What this proposal does is look if you're than in that upper middle class 130 to 400000. Were not going to apply Social Security payroll taxes to that income. But if you make more than 400000. Were going to apply it there so professional athletes. Doctors lawyers the hedge fund guys make billions vacant lots and lots of money they'll get hit by this but if you want that means that pride. In the year this makes a lot of sense I think I agree I even why did I'd say look. Get rid of the payroll tax from like 75000. Opera get rid of it from you know 40000 and below completely or something like that is that the rich people it is not not just hit the rich few bucks carve out middle class because they tend to get whacked by a lot of these things. And so what I like here is you know you're saying look we're gonna have to raise taxes a little bit. We're only after change benefit formulas a little bit and through all that we're going to make everyone pave organ to a gradually enough that it doesn't really heard anyone today. And here's why you should like the plan. Most of you are probably my age I may I'm 59. Right and order against and by the time this passes you and I won't have to pay folks but chuck and Tucker. They will have to cut your go to different way it was that that's what you're known by the time this comes in the comes to playable be dead. Well I would. Like Canada that's me the eye they have to do this pretty soon they do they do it is not like Aiken. I I actually think we are on the verge. Of something being done as a relates to Social Security twittered to co sponsors yeah that's I mean they did it this is something. That is logical and and why not take shots at people make in more than 400000 dollars it in and look nobody likes us. There's people all people. Know that some people that I talk about a movie star right they eat talk about your. You know you're highly compensated professional athletes right. Alex Rodriguez do you really care Iran pays an extra we noticed that there should be assent or tax for him. You know not on employers because the employers again the pain part. While they are it the other option is in theory you know the one thing that I do have a problem with on this not it is not a problem problem. Payroll taxes inherently restrict the ability of labor to make money because that money has to be paid to the tax instead of to be important so I do wonder if there's any way to look at this other than just raising payroll taxes but that's kind of picnic it's ridges and how we do it to begin with you can reduce and I'm wondering if we can raise the revenue and a different way. Instead of payroll taxes account I I don't know but I I don't know something like a batter something like that. Just because when you add more payroll taxes needs money to both employers and employees have to pay him out of their pocket as opposed to if you put it that that means consumers have to pay in out of their pockets of violence were eight. That there's no right way to do wit it's just payroll tax of inherent payroll taxes inherently mean and that being attacks on labor when it's also have gone to. Markets are rallying on whispers. About a China US trade deal giving conclude it has happened but it might. Dow is up 174. Points the S&P is up fourteen points NASDAQ up 25 points in the Brussels it's up three point. In the ten year treasury. Is trading at two point 704%. It's very shocking Tucker from the financial exchange. Everybody loves the stock market rally and that's exactly what we have going on today the Dow is up a 188. Points. The S&P is up fifteen points. And it's all good it that we may have handled it. Green and snowstorms. That Mina the ideals but. Stocks are rock. Every. Like everybody not everybody has money in the stock market. No not ever won about 60% of Americans do sixty but not everyone let me dismal annuals don't gas criminal out of Toronto to Louis. Let you know even if it's cinco item money in the stock market might be impacted let's a year contractor labor right yeah I mean that's all CDs. But people feel the there's a wealth effect when the market goes. Down goes up. And brokerage statement and used to have 800000 and it now it's got 820000. You say honey. We can afford to redo the kitchen or honey you can buy nuke our money we want trip where he spends the money is rich now we don't 88800. The deal with what wires that ADT exactly what's the precise reason that equities. Mueller is no such visual academy for that half. You know obviously I think that some this is you know talk that hey you know if we get to the end of the month you know the US is gonna say okay we're not gonna raise tariffs on China at the end of the month so I think it kind of puts off that. Worst case scenario there. And then I think you know for better for worse earnings while not great for the fourth quarter. I think to avoid is some of the worst case scenarios that people feared on that front is well. I do think earnings guidance continues to come down for Q1 right now and that is something that I do think bears watching at this point. You know we go back to September. The S&P was a 2900 in first quarter growth projections were about seven point 2% Newton now ESP's 272750. Let's call it via in first quarter growth projections are actually negative for earnings and and so. I do think you know that there's the potential for some additional downside especially if Europe worsens but right now. Investors saying look we don't care about the downside to try to make some money now all right. Any concern over that CPI data we got this morning two point 7% over the last ninety days I've been that worried about inflation for the last year and I can chicken little I continue to be but it's not something that's concerning today but it's just take continue to watch. Tucker I've got good news or. Really did. You. For the first time ever are going to be able to wager on who's gonna win the Academy Awards and their done that you've done. I don't methods you know and I hit by the you do it would you we yeah he's got a guy. Well what update might move scary not nominated for best picture no way so alive yet nominated for exactly zero awards. We'll take your prediction on the sending correct that was the first move he'd seen a decade it was really. A terrorist good and it's a story. Well. That's you I know what is nominated for best pitcher catcher. Let's see I'm pulling up right now paper bought the favorite black panther. Black Klansman bohemian rhapsody. Green book Romo a star is born invites them. Sub camp there I've seen one too. I've seen two of these now as a black panther and black Klansman I want to see bohemian rhapsody but it's not available on it's now available to rent on iTunes or we can wager on this. That's really exciting legally. Yes the legal leave you know we do we wager on the lawbreakers fused in Italy you can think Mon night that I won because I cashed in on that. Much like the movie out. So new Jersey's going to be the first state in the US that allows sports books to accept wagers on the Oscars. And so you can be able to bet on these going forward as far as hey who beat he's gonna win best picture best actor and best director all lose different pieces there. What we're seeing right now in terms of the odds at the moment. The longest shot for best picture is vice yes it's plus 2500 right now meaning it pays off 25 to one which surprises me. Why I just out of the division I haven't seen it but the fact there was dead last and it's a great cast and I think Adam McKay is the director he's been nominated before him and the fact that area comic book movies ahead of vice it's. Pretty astounding to make me. So did we determine when the Oscar's favor 24 there. So eleven days do you wanna have an informal discuss I know enough that late I've signed because imovie didn't need that I've been so bad movie as a view where you wanna pick one yet. What what he got. You go first I'm going black Klansman. Or a black panther. Is the cream thing grown. A program book Erica okay. Right now and excellent enough it's gonna be roller something like that US steel is restarting construction. Of an idled plant that's goodness yet they're gonna be starting restarting this plant in Alabama then this has been idled for a little while now but it's going to. End up adding about a 150 full time workers when it's all said and done the it has been 215 million dollars to update this plant and its equipment. It's gonna have the annual capacity of about one point six million tons of steel when it's also in dunce can start producing steel. In only 2020s about a year and a half but not something you'd want in your backyard or that you would want to live near the plane no you wouldn't want to but you want with close not because you know those jobs are mute typically pretty good paying jobs usually union jobs yet Beasley union jobs through our united steelworkers typically. And you know again that there's always a chance that the trade picture change in the future and not necessarily the most stable for the long run but they're good paying law he can get. We have a rumored circulate. All right Mario ready for Calvin Johnson the patriots. They could still happen and what it would wait he's still alive right he is still alive Johnny men's I'll still play football. In Canada area in east still plane he could lead it's will be playing for the page so what's the rumor we've got today. In goes on in General Motors are in talks to invest in review and automotive LLC. This is the company and its gonna make electric. Pick up yet based out of Plymouth Michigan and they are trying to be the first carmaker to the US market with an electric pick up. By a understand GM being an investor here in and I look at this from the perspective of reveal. OK if you Caribbean and who do you want investing in your company will GM's understands distribution they understand manufacturing regarding at the distribution like he did if you've. Build it they welcome it makes a lot of sense to me why Amazon. Amazon I sit there and SA OK what's what's the upside for them I note that last mile delivery that's right and that's I think that's where they're going maybe not necessarily with pickup trucks but you could say OK I Eagles are blamed Britain turned it into a van like in a conversion van or something like that. I talked to a UPS. Driver over the weekend. He said they hardly hold any overtime slicker and the one I talked to also say same kind of thing sitting VUPS. Is get hammered. Buying. In his in his owns taking over a lot of that business. In his perception. Is that well you've seen probably gray you've had somebody drive up. To your house in a car and drop off packages you doubt that drove on a mile long like camera or something like that is weird. Via the they drove on to my lawn via a while I can show I become that guy now now. The that's that would might be why Amazon and Paul and for them to drop the building because Agassi each company's gonna invest a billion dollars over yet and so Amy is my. You know so that they not investigate this it looked at what I read was that the company would be valued between one into billions they might be investing couple hundred million or something that meant but. If it's still something. You know it was a we talk about paint elevate their play money to throw around when you spent 200 million on some we still expect some kind of torture. So I do find this interest in here. As far as win they are actually what does it say go to of GM's electric car programs like why do they have to. The nation should they have. Better technology and Caribbean on the Euro. Joining us now is promises Charlotte Howard from the economist to talk about where oil demand is going in the future and whether or not there any risks. Facing big energy companies. Charles thanks for joining us today. Adding social or what when we talked about oil production in general can you give us a sense of kind of where it stands today in and how much production is expected to grow. Over the next five to ten years. There's a lot of volatility. We in the market week in week out he's not that. Kicker in Latin sparked the number of people working at a hundred dollar a barrel. It out or ballot oil and then not go out and crash. But in the long term. Demand because of population growth around the world that the and the right thing and particularly in Asia companies expect demand for oil would be about. Now in terms of where what that means it means you're gonna see a whole bunch more investment flowing into the energy sector how how much money you're companies planning on investing going forward in order to produce new oil reserves are in order to get them out of the ground yes. Well accompanied only need to get in bad on an additional production because they're expecting reserves that are depleted overtime. But you need some of the biggest companies and that led by ExxonMobil planning increased action now. ExxonMobil and take action by a oil and gas pipe that's when he backed partner I'd I'd relative to its funny and now what that when he at a Kabul and everything they're doing that it because they'd see. On demand rising along perfect and they think that because of their technology. And that level of integration that you'd companies like ExxonMobil have the it'll be able to produce oil cast more efficiently and others. Charlotte what when we look at this one of the questions that I have is in the last. Five or six years you started to see. A number of different investment funds from sovereign controlled funds to be an individual mutual funds. Moving towards no more carbon neutral platforms how does that affect. The amount of capital that flows into energy companies going forward and is something that these companies are guiding might be a risk for them in the future. Another part of it varies by company. And a whole you do eat big impact Britain's national debt is becoming more concerned about climate change. And wanting companies big anarchy that they were not for the rest. That there would eat pork and addict regulations that would and it's like that price of oil at all. By unit but they're really variation so. In Europe. Our particular has been more aggressive in responding. Greed and bad area they are prepared to market and lowering their passion their partner. I'm but that really across the board even though there are a lot of the talk about it. It additional benefit big war more concerned about that and indeed the number of shareholder resolutions. I'm I'm related shareholder resolutions oil and gas companies pebble or need. If people that it earned not at all abandoning oil companies there have been non announcement of iPad that the but at a ball shareholding at the top twenty it is that it actually an oil company. Actually increase its current court. Are there any energy companies in particular and I don't necessarily know no any specific names but are there any particular that are really focusing on. You know hey if you do start to see more investors. Mentioning climate change as a reason to get out of oil companies or any of these oil companies saying hey we need to start making significant investments in renewables or anything like that. There again you're seeing companies have been more aggressive in its current. Investing in wind and solar or even buying them. Use in developing that capability. And ExxonMobil would say that it is also investing in areas where it has. A technological advantage so there are bad they can't. Carbon capture because the streets and Richards and and it out there will be Alice eve with a really help. But if you're being Ambien and a bit more crap up about moving it. Renewable. They're available out there Ballard and the nevertheless it bill that passed the big companies. At an entity in the UK and but the investment. I cut the biggest ask companies. And they estimated that at about one point 3% at capex capital expenditures at eighteen went and broke our back. What about carpet aspect belt but to their normal that oh. It took some companies are higher than that not lower by industry at all is not moving aggressively market. Gergen Charl thanks for the time today in double catch up with the soon. Charlotte Howard from the economist talking about oil demand going forward. The the going back to your issue as it relates to alternative energy. Where we'd like 2% 3%. Are we talking US worldwide loyalists. Meet Nicole. In not including Hydro as Hydro. You know and I don't wanna include tiger now I just one include wind and so. If you go back to 2000 it was only about 2% at that point so it's up to ten now. The biggest shift though has been the proliferation of Nat gas which in the last twenty years has gone from 16% of our power to 32%. What's lost. On from 51 down to 30%. Senator Cecile yelling yeah yeah all you read about now is coal fired plants going off it actually believe in up from 2016 between seventeen actually went up point 1% but that's likely just a little bit of a fluctuation there. Even though went up point one it was still net use here gross usage was going down at that it's gonna continue to decline. I think so it is no longer cost effective. It's it's not cost effective now. And nobody wants their backyard no. All right go back to trivia. Who asked entry questions about Randy Moss including a record breaking 23 touchdown receptions. I folks this is Mike Armstrong and I'm joined by estate planning attorney Todd lets you with your financial exchange quick tip of the day. Today we're talking about the differences between revote Kabul and your revoke Kabul trusts have taught you what is the biggest difference between a revote Kabul verses and durable global trust. You know this is probably the most frequently asked questions that that I get here richer people just wanna know that and there are really a lot of differences but what I'm gonna do is to tell you what we're talking about the differences between a Medicaid irrevocable trust as folks there's so many kinds of irrevocable trusts out there. I wanna be clear that this is those income only Medicaid. Irrevocable trusts that are designed to protect assets from the owners now vs. A revote global family type trust. The biggest difference between the two is that. Revoke double trust will never protect assets from the nursing a five years ten years doesn't matter how long your assets are an. But with an irrevocable trust after the assets have been put in there for five years. Then they will be protected from the costs of long term care that's really the difference well let's haired pain attorney to draft time trust that you revote Kabul and I just go and have them change it to and you're vulnerable trust. So many people love to do that you could but no. You actually have to start over the language of the trust itself is key. In making it protected from the nursing homes so you can't just make the word revoke oval irrevocable and the odds are there not so easy but that's the big difference lies control wise I think you're still. About the same. Excellent while the state planning experts accretion and don't have written a brand new guys that answer the most common questions you have about the differences between revote Kabul and irrevocable trusts you can press has brand new guy by calling 8668485699. Eight passenger who skipped the last leg of the booked flight this is a practiced called. Skip. Lagging I didn't know there's technical term war but I didn't know this was a thing yeah I've I've used it a couple times actually takes in this. For our audience because I I I think he airlines. And in the wrong here but I beat each let's let's talk about what it is it do will do it and inaccurate description skip lagging in the and you can decide folks. As to what do you think this is illegal. So here's the premise of skip lagging let's say that I'm trying to go to Austin, Texas and and I go and I look at direct flights Austin Tex or even connecting flights to get me in Austin, Texas in the cheapest one I can find. Is 700 dollar and I say. She I don't wanna pay 700 dollars for a flight. Would I then do as I say okay actually wanna look at plates to Los Angeles but find new ones that route through Austin, Texas. And maybe I find one go and only the toll 500 dollars and what I do is I booked the one LA that's through Austin. And instead of going all the way LA I just get off and Austin. And get off there. Help us understand why would an airline spat that caught charge you less money. To grow through Austin. And they need to LA as opposed to just off so it's it's really all about supply and demand when it's all said and done they're trying to fill different seats on different flights etc. airlines try to price their tickets and it's not the same airline it's the correct it's not based on the actual cost of you war trip. OK so is it like what's that you're driving to Austin you say OK got to pay for food fuel and all those things. Airlines because they have so many different you know routes and in different ways you can get around. They're not trying to cover all their cost for one flight in that flight necessarily on every ticket. They have different pricing structures depending on where you're trying to fly in to see how they are attribute revenue. Correct and so what happens is let's say that I'm trying to get LA. Well this pony different ways me to get to LA so fun trying to book that airlines say okay there's a lot of competition on this route and they have to make those fares more affordable if fund just going to Austin. It is not as many people trying to go there they can have higher prices because of skip like you say look him in a book the LA flight but instead of going all the way through. I'm gonna get off when it stops in Austin and not do the last leg. Now airlines complain. That okay. They're stuck looking for passengers to wondering if Michigan on the flight that slows down flights. They think it raises costs for the people because otherwise you know that seats not actually being used in things like that makes a plane lighter burn less fuel to which I say look if you're so concerned about a change of pricing yet. Instead what Lufthansa is doing here is they are suing. Someone for 2400. Dollars because they used skip black pretty much what happened. The unnamed passenger supposed to fly from Oslo to Seattle through Frankfurt. Instead they skipped the connecting flight in just got off Ian for Frankfurt who hung out in Frankfurt inning came back on a separate ticket into the cost of that was 743 dollars where's the airline says that he should've paid. 3100 so this'll be being tried in Germany yet. I can't imagine. That they would win if they tried this in the United States on trying to think of what the what the cases that what it again it's German loss. I'm not familiar with the German legal system and not that familiar with the US legal system. But I'm trying I'm going through it's kind of racking my brain eyes and I stay the same thing what law is bio I hear that entitles them to civil damages. I I don't get it and we need be the one thing they could ask is courtesy if you can do this you tell us. Right there's just courteous thing to do I have not when your when you leave in the plane right. You just say to the stewardess I am not coming back and and did you wanna use that language in an airport. I'm not coming back. Noise as you're getting aged deeply eight I just don't think you want to use that language and are you where you communicate somehow. That I've I've decided to get off in yeah just go way I'm not making this next leg of the flight and actually just stopping here. Like I I just don't see where how that could possibly be illegal I ate I don't know I mean I guess in theory. The only place that I could go would be doing breach of contract is technically you're signing contract carriage but if you choose not to go one lake you've still hates him you've fulfilled your part of the bar and you know. They what are they gonna do dragged you in lake if you didn't like drag you kicking and screaming to get on the plane. Note is that the boys like me I I yeah I was very confused by that. Lift founders plan to control the company through east super voting share ahead of the initial public offering. Which would lead me to think. It shares might not be worth as much if they can do that because I think one of the reasons I buy shares of stock in companies I want you to. Counterpoint to it is if you look at Facebook's voting structures Zuckerberg controls about 90% voting shares and the company's been a rock stars and two came out there you know so it's. It certainly from a corporate governance perspective. Concerns you because you sit there you say. He we don't have a whole lot of recourse necessarily. If we need to make changes he'd make it like as an investor I would say which yet an awful and buy these shares. And that's why if if you're looking at this knew it was going to be a darn good company they're gone public this year. They're trying to be out number two. They're both trying Tia windy evening thanks second or third it could be in the next outs a second second or I would say April or may need time. Yes depends election. I do not I I I. Bullish I'm not. I'm not one. They don't make money. Yes that that's the big thing a couple of security humans even then they break even. Yes it's like a Kayla IKEA race unabom wonderful you know. So it's. There interest in companies put to this point they've just been funded yet they've they've made great companies for the consumers would you admit they do it as as a consumer. Oh yeah rides. Billy prefer this to tactics I do but I also recognize that my ride is effectively subsidized by millionaires and billionaires who like to lose money right now because they say they'll make it up on the back end. If they can't the news cost us to open the company goes out of business and my baby at this point would you pay more the heat get out the plane at the airport would pay more to use lift and you would taxi. Would I pay more. I've had some bad Hoover and lift drivers recently that Alitalia and I've had I've had some bad ones and not say the rollback is someone might think phenomenal. But after you know I've ever had one start preaching to you in the car. I don't know much about video games that I do know Activision Blizzard I think the big player in. In that every day they make that videogame call of duty. There with a one of the big ones so Activision Blizzard is big electronic arts is big takes join our take two interactive is big take two was. Currently under someone else know it's they've bought Rock Star Games that's would ones who don't yet Activision Blizzard just assume you 38. Not good in May not not a well. So why Activision Blizzard which by the way it was the first stock that I ever owned early. It was just because ultimately as a young kid who loved video games to one but without payment I no longer own it and fortunately. Can't remember I made any money on it but. I'll give you an idea so this was I think backe in the I wanna see 2001 or 2002. When the stock I split adjusted basis was 323 a share back then. It got as high as 72 this year backed in last year so I would have done well final battle I know when jumped off the boat too soon. But the big thing they're cutting 8% of the workforce they gave weak guidance. And they they continued to while run into this buzz saw that is fort night and that is just eating up you know computer game makers alive just his. Ever when spending all their time point 49 in not an analyst Larry that that's pretty much what it is is part of that the business model for video games is changed in the last decade. Used to be bought a game you paid fifty bucks for it and that was it or more. I thought I remember some of these schemes in the 125 dollars note 150 to sixty is pretty standard that the game systems would be you know a little under bucks but. That the actual games to be you know fifty bucks is kind of normal. People still have like the Sony playstations. And we have got those the Xbox is all those things. But the big thing that's changed is now you may or may not paying up front fee for game but they have all these in game purchases that keep revenue coming in that.
