Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. We start the morning with the markets outfit that was currently have nearly 260. Points. Lot of big information coming out just this morning we get the jolts report about five minutes ago dig into battle a little bit there's rumors on the US and China trade deal that nothing concrete. Although something that is starting to look a little bit more concrete is. Some sort of agreement at least in principle on avoiding the government shut down that is due to start at midnight on Friday so. So speaking of concrete yeah I'll be sort of concrete let's let's talk about that thing in like a good job thank you. See we need more fathers in this on the showed Yeltsin worked on a terrible bad jokes like this. So let's let's talk about what was agreed to at first at least in principle. And but it looks like this might hey at least the markets think this might have the ability to avoid a shut down comes that are. What people Schuerholz on I think so much and this is just. People waiting with bated breath for the president of the United States who sometimes feels a little bit like a four year old Blake is gonna have a tantrum. Or not is one point 38 billion dollars for 55 miles of modern physical barriers. As they're described in the Wall Street Journal. Is that close enough to a five billion dollar wall for the president to be able to. We want to sign off on this and feel that his manhood is intact and we both CI I would be really happy to not have to talk about this story for the next. Four days so. I feel like no news is good news in this case we have some tentative agreement here we haven't heard anything out of the White House that from president trump on whether or not he's willing to accept this sort of deal or not. But the tentative deal is one point 300000000455. Miles of modern physical barriers quote unquote. And the big thing that it held this up with the number detention beds Democrats wanted to drastic reduction in number detention beds that's going to be reduced by it sounds like going to 10% the number detention beds that's not going to be a big number I gonna say you know having a Michigan will be with Smart Alec you about the president the United States we Democrats your against having enough beds to stop people who were trying to. Coming to your country illegally coming commodity it again you know I don't think either side has been. Particularly easy to deal with in this case but I don't know 81 point 38 billion obviously a far cry from. The five billion dollars requested. I think it's. If your government worker I think it's good news that we haven't heard any tweets from the president we haven't heard announced as the president yet so. We'll see what I mean heck rearing of this and get through congress so ways to go on this unfortunately we're probably gonna have to talk about it. Further by the way I forgot to mention Peter how Mike Armstrong interpret Silva in the studio with you today. In other you know and the little I guess announcements coming out of coming out of Washington. We've heard a lot about stock buybacks that's been a big item in focus specifically on the Democrats side. As to whether or not. Their really the big question that Democrats have is nightly question it's there's against. They don't want stock buybacks. They don't want companies. Taking the money that they saves from the the tax bill and spending that on buying back their company stock so let's first talk about. I wanna give people a bit of a background in terms of what stock buybacks are how they impact the market's bad history of them. So we stock buyback quite simply you know a company has a bunch of cash on hand they can do a number of different things that they include. Payout to shareholders in terms of the dividend. They could go out and I knew company or build a new factory or you know increase their ability to say produce iphones in the United States. Or they could take a look at all of the outstanding shares their company and buys them this year. This was pretty much outlawed until the eighties. You really couldn't do this until the early 1980s the SEC backed off of some of their rules and said yeah go ahead and do this. So it does is. Beasley makes the existing shareholders. Own a larger percentage of the company. Right if you're buying back the company shares you're retiring down and says okay well instead there being a thousand shares now there's 980 in their for every share a little bit more valuable. A lot of Democrats said you know this is a bad use of company's assets they have inside information about the companies they shouldn't be buying back their own shares in the first place. This is the first indication we've heard from Republican on though Marco Rubio coming back and saying. I also believe that we need to limit the ability for companies to do stock buybacks surprising to see and you know at the end of the day. There very strict SEC rules we typically see. Is the companies have a kind of automatic program to buy back stock they you know preannounce we're gonna buy back. X hundred million dollars for the shears over the next X number of months and then you know there's a bit of market timing. But I obviously the you know they've told the SEC with they're gonna do you would assume the SEC is watch him like on act of nature. In other bad buying. Before good news and then selling for bad news. But at the end of the day I think the fundamental question here is. That at the cash that a company has visited becomes available for buying back stock is that necessarily cash that's available to just pay workers more. And I think in a lot of cases it's not necessarily mean you've been there. You pay your your company's owned by shareholders is not owned by employees unless it's an employee owned company and so if you get money B give back you should give back to. The owners that to be employee. Yes I did there's to be a big debate about how this money gets spent I think there is a fair argument to say look. Buying back shares helps your stock price in the short term but really does nothing to increase the value of the company in the long term. I don't think they should necessarily be entirely outlawed that page there could be ways to look at this and say you know look you can't buy back shares. If there's inside information that your working on or you could just say rather than the management team making interest in making decision vacuum. And shareholder vote. Now if you wanna buy back shares you need the approval of the entire shareholder base. And there's a number of different ways is to be gone up I think is going to be a big item on the 20/20. Day. Election campaign because you now have both Democrats and Republicans talking about so rubio proposal. Would be to increase the capital gains tax rate unclear if there be across the border just in relation to buybacks but nonetheless. It's a big item that's been talked about right now and if you're Cheryl liver current company. You don't want this to go away this adds a lot of stability to stock prices when the company itself is constantly buying back remembers its share. The only other two things I would very quickly add to that are gay. An eagle worried it does worry sometimes when she company saying we've got nothing better to do with this money them buy back here which says you know is is that potentially bearish signal or they're not seeing. Some opportunity that is more profitable than. I'm pictures secondly from the standpoint of politics what's so terrible but this incredibly complicated issues how easy it is to demagogue. You know should billionaires get more cash or should working people man if you make it that simple you can. Activate a lot of political opinion yeah without really. Honor in the complexity of the issues yet and that is this is one of those issues to that is really difficult to explain to the average American dollar. It's not really easy problem will probably just last 50% or listening idolize. By those people don't mean one most you don't invest in stocks so that their rate Terry have the issue that people just don't quite understand it but he could be. Really impact to the stock market and we'll see you will see what happens to the next few months here. This one's an inch and one so I personally am on my wife's health insurance plan. She's employed at Fidelity Investments and they have this system where. If you go in and dog. A number of different fitness if you go in there and report hey you know I went for a jog this day or five. Worked at this there fight it changed my eating behavior for this week. As long as you log as you get certain points. Others refutes quit smoking they give you points that there's no real checking it is no real way of them to go and look did you actually. Out I was gonna say that one rages laud that ran a marathon all the weekend and yet so yeah okay it's ripe for abuse street but if you get enough points to basically give you a small credit on your health insurance costs for the quarter program. So it's something is becoming much more prevalent and but what companies are doing now is taking a step further there saying OK if you win here this fitness tracker. And we can prove that you actually via walks 101000. With some reasonable in the tens of thousands about a minute and thousands today yeah. Or if you lost weight because we can tell from this distracting than. We will decrease York. Your health insurance costs in some cases though they even said if you don't do it increased your pitcher and that's been a bit of an issue by. Law on this. And it's fantastic yeah yeah it was doubly Randall trackers and see I am an old world with that but it did it and it's human shape it gives you motivation to get in shape. Money talks so let's well let's take a hypothetical so. You'd be okay it was sang. Okay we're gonna give this tracker and if you. Keep up with the work out and we will. Decrease the cost picture attribute it without him oh yeah definitely what do they say ripped what they said if you're used to Wear this health tractor. Annual increase the cost of Osama. Depends how much that that part of it I'm not so much a fan of 'cause it should ultimately be your choice. So that one I'm not a huge fan aren't gonna tell you the middle aged guy who could stand to lose a few pounds and bring them on the cholesterol but. Does not agree with healthy young Maloney and so I would be terrified if I implement my Ager you know older. If I tell the company no I don't wanna give you this information. I would be I mean. Either be terrified you give the information they say you know we're firing you because you're you know a ticking time bomb here as the war if you won't give us this information you probably assent and hide so now we're gonna put you on the top of the layoff list yeah. I it it strikes that I like the idea of positive incentives but. It's so many times especially in kind of big corporate America. You know the positive incentives come along with those who wants and a form. You know go under the microscope news. And we're wondering about your health here paths were gonna come up with some reason to push you at The Who what kind of money. Our price for injury talking about here in terms of incentives. Gay scene across the board I saw an offense has eyes like 500 boxes nine so it can be a big incentive to keep in mind each employer covers a different percentage of their help of their employees' health care costs if your. Employer doesn't cover any of your health care costs and is offering it. He can be paying monthly insurance rates for Stanley 15100 box 2000 dollars say you can see a pretty significant discount that what if this. No make this all this out five years or ten years to where you got a monitors that can say you know we can tell that five years and you're gonna colorectal cancer. And you know we don't wanna pay for that five years from now so we're gonna come up with some reason to put you on the email an area that is or rocks for for abuse by anyway we've got to pull up on our on our website financial exchange showed dot com the questions. Would you allow your employer to track your health. If you received health insurance incentives that's that's the poll questions out on financial exchange showed dot com. If you're already having this done text and text the show at 63566. We are gonna take a quick break. We're talking about SBA loans you know we hear a lot about SBA loans small business loans Jack. But I don't think people really understand. How they can be used and why they're so valuable to the small business community. Thanks bear yet we had been really focused on providing small business lending to local community and local business owners. And the programs that are available on our very helpful so we are preferred SB under the what that means is that. We can quickly make decisions and under rates small business loans and house. Andy can be used for right purposes for small business owners give us an example. Well one example that recently happened was there was a restaurant in Cambridge when I was growing very rapidly they are always full occupancy. And the space next Jordan became available. So they wanted to. Take on that space you need capital to sort build out. The rest Ron. And you know was about a 300000 dollar loan about it how many years did they have to pay it back. Typically these types of loans vary anywhere between five to ten years lots of time. So you know we were able to quickly make that. Underwriting decision provide in the capital expanded at rexrodt has grown tremendously them as is one of one of many examples in what they're landscaper or. By texting us and 63566. Start your extra keyword Barry and become a member of our brand new textbooks tell us what you think 24/7. Right here on the financial exchange radio network. We have some. Pretty surprising data about tab Valentine's Day restaurant sales Brad cloth out from. Wildly joins us now and we were actually just talking but Revver just talk about this yesterday on the show are none of us wanted to go out for dinner for Valentine's Day. Because we all figured the traffic in traffic and other Russians would be terrible price heavyweight jacked up. Will tell me it does it data really back that theory up in none of us are going out to dinner behavioral terrified of just an awful experience. Our other people going out to dinner on Valentine's then. Well when you zoom out there are thirty doesn't eat the answer is no in fact we did an analysis 42000. Restaurant these are small local independent restaurant across entire country. We wanted to understand how to balance I'd be rank against all three or 65 days a year and what we found is that nationally it 120. Bad behavior that chief barely average day. And it much different Boston so. But 299. At bats date and revenue was down 26% pretty average local restaurant Boston and that's really driven by the ticket prices going lead out 25%. Though. Lot of factors potentially going into that but when you zoom out and look at this from a higher level actually not a great day to run a restaurant ought to. Apparently not let let's talk about bullets over the nation why did he mentions about an average day. So looks like the number of transactions about average with the average day ended the prices nationwide are slightly a little bit higher may be. Gas so when you're really he'd like to set foot traffic is pretty typical and people are spending a little more than expected your ordered a bottle wine. And what we typically see here is at least swipe at a little further it would trying to understand it from the kind of high level like what the consumer behavior going on not Dayton. What we typically it'll washout though there are certain types of restaurants these are all full service restaurant there were analyzing a lot quicker businesses are Barton county but they all. Coming different categories why people are restaurants are certainly didn't do well they're going to be packed the going to be you know booked out. But in their departure restaurants that are gonna eat very little because. Why it's just not a great data to allow. If you're not going to want those kind of restaurant plot we hear all the time from my truck owners that this is amateur night. You know people are making good spot to produce significant other they're sort of an expectation. That they should be doing making the deal in some cases and you definitely see how that happened. They they numbers for Boston release presents sued the number two transactions. Is way up for Valentine's Day 83 verses 49 on average. But the ticket price down the average ticket price for me on Boston 32 dollars and nineteen cents. Average take on Valentine's Day in nineteen dollars and 72 cents in Boston that is Kris. Yeah yet very interesting and actually there will be to be looking at a Massachusetts vs Boston a couple of those instances Archie the average number transactions for Austin restaurants on average in 84 and atrium now. They're really bought yours in nearly twice as many people at a restaurant on an average day compared to the Massachusetts averaged. But yeah you're right about the average ticket weighed down and so. You know that could be influenced by a couple of things one that he may have a lot of like single folks that they have got to go you know sort of drown my sorrows in a deal by myself and and this ticket prices coming down you also maybe you know some of the things that we. Actually which is that. The proportion of businesses that are trying to track down and which aspect. Needy you know kind of skewed in relation to all the other kinds of restaurants. You they have hired Mediterranean or Italian restaurant that you've attract people out and they put in acting category a Mediterranean or time struck a whole bunch that. You know meager topic at a restaurant you can take your significant other human app in the average on that day. Well it's inching dad we always appreciated Brad cloth out from wobbly joining us talking about Valentine's Day restaurant sales in nationwide in the masters there. As after an on Brad. As wiccan romantic implies that it's gonna stay home and make my growing guys that want one thing. One thing I didn't even consider. He Mets in the white cloth table restaurants are obviously gonna succeed but you never really thought about. The other restaurants you know the fast food or fast casual chains you know your actually some. TJ Fries or those have to be humble and inflation higher. Tax scan it and yet the worst meals. Like a pretty good bar in the Boston area you're certainly not name it. Pretty reliably give food. To there servicers awful news all like because heart shaped rat feel as though the the waiters and waitresses I dared to this is that are late worse force for your day. He can't stand to stay at least you know my interpretation. I just when I went out you know years ago to two restaurant just felt very brushed. The place is jam packed time. It just wasn't really enjoy it and so I'd just makes them and all well further Boston bashing. Boston I've mentioned before the break. Has in new record. Worst traffic in the country. We've we've yet pastel and grants congratulations Boston Massachusetts you have the worst trapped in the country in the eighth worst in the world. Worst in the world behind Moscow Istanbul Bogota. Mexico City and Sao Pollack in happily lump in the city of Boston in the group now with those cities we have to come back this just the the methodology this bugs me it's interesting you know how much worse is traffic during rush hour compared to the middle yeah the last angels looks good because traffic is terrible all of them so the rush hours and that's really wears but. Complicated point we may have to come back to later yeah that's fair I mean but nonetheless they do you find that. Boston commuters wasted never to 164 hours a year in traffic. That is a fair point that if they're comparing peak vs non peak traffic it's not fair comparison. But nonetheless I'm not agree look for Boston in the state of Massachusetts not wasted time if you listen to financial that's right ripped a quick break when we come back Wall Street watch. Yeah I do believe that. I would not want to appeal waitress or waiter bartender or anything like that on the alternates and they'll be awful lot of boyfriend girlfriend drama. We also have made whole up on financial exchange recovery story earlier about the numbers employers. That are increasing the use says health trackers record the through apps on people's phones are actually tracking people's health via news that stepped in things like that. Poll question out on the website financial exchange showed dot com would you allow your employer to track your health. If you received health insurance incentives I actually do have this available to me but not tracking myself. It is offering asked me to entered I'm still will be some would you would you support a wearable and I would aka. Yeah so I would but I would also be more hesitant of serious office. Yeah I get that. Okay but what it is in I news. Dealing with. I don't know what would be surprised you with something diabetes and diabetes there's a net news special apartment for an. Deemed particularly mobile would be very very hesitant to turn this. But you can go to our website castor so we had a few people texting and you know am planning Althea get a good bill of my doctor but there's no chance no chance in hell I'd want my company track Al. And then the person Texan you know yeah track and tires healthy so that makes cents and you. Have you guys ever been to there's the beer gardens the kind of pop up all of these all of the gas. A lot of Massachusetts but kind of across New England to. Your experience. Yeah I've been I'd been to the trillium one thing. Anti. No I think it was like in regards set up bright outside of rose war yeah I think yeah downtown focus our sorry a moment. About it you know adjusted to the city life if it sorry. But yeah that's a cool hang there are all over the place but not surprisingly the city's restaurants are too. Local buzz kill as on the center at restaurants here. So matching your restaurant and bar Austin your pain 200000 dollars for a liquor license cost all of their their ridiculously it's it's virtually impossible to get all the liquor license and if you go on the secondary market again one. Incredibly expensive you get a big bricks and mortar you gonna pay. You know you get the new album Williams ran health insurance maybe but you know wages it's that are tenor and these molecules can come in and just put up a beer garden outside your restaurant and sell beer without having to worry about any things you have to pay for. You know of that and it's how is that's how is that fair they just they just bring a much a part of bodies. Yeah it's pretty. I mean I. It's a tough position that they're being put in. You know from one degree there are a lot of fun and enjoyed going to them there in open air out in public but yeah I mean there's really very little overhead for these theories that's at these things up. And they definitely have a competitive advantage compared to saint indoor restrooms. So what are the what's the restaurant industry proposing how to limit these guards he complaint right now is that there's. Law on the books that. You can not an applicant can't obtain more than thirty of the city days opened with a one game beer license these one day license no and you're not. Allowed to hypothetically get more than thirty in the where they get around that practicing different please ha. To pick him up every day. Which is just I mean I agree with that asking particularly at the restaurant she wants a limit to no more than fourteen. Guys in. Giving year for different companies so that would definitely you know that would basically mean OK maybe we can do it every Saturday. The park. It's fair to me and it's awesome I go back to like how was it that we just rolled over and let Hoover kill the taxi industry that was it that food trucks that. Weave through when you know other bricks and mortar. Restaurants and have to comply with a all these health code and tax requirements is that. The one thing the thing on this is I just feel that we should have much looser restrictions them. And it shouldn't be active Golden State Massachusetts or anywhere else to get a liquor license these days. Yes it's really without that yeah yeah you have to wait seven you know long time to pay up like you said 200000 dollars to get what he's realized as. That's come to me easier access to alcohol Massachusetts what could possibly go. Think it. Yeah. I think that's Kenneth. It's. So we had gotten a whole bunch of estimates about just how bad Apple's iphones were they stopped. This up iphone's sales sales sales of the funds not the act ponson to right catcher the sales the iphone's gotten the last quarter iPhone self reporting this data points. Last year. But there's companies that go in and kind of estimated based on the numbers that they found and the news in that sales to China. In the last three months of 22018. Were down 20% year career 20% that's huge that's good chunk international data court. Me wonder how much of that is slowing economy in China. How much is maybe Chinese patriotism sort of reaction against the American terrorists that's what I've been trying to figure out today there are a lot of other things that are slowing down but you haven't seen for instance. The cigar box sales decline out of there are 3 in this morning that sales and luxury brands that effort of the ones offhand vote. A sales in specific luxury brands were up year over year in China. But that. Yeah and it always still a whole lot of phones that would speak to the patriotism pays rather than the you know economic slowdown although the wallowing phones are two or 300 bucks cheaper than the apple phones in in that market so. It's a little bit tough to tell and obviously we're not gonna get any real good data reporting out of the Chinese Government on this but. Yeah I would think that if it was a just a rebellion against American made stuff. And you receive Starbucks getting hit UC KFC has him are huge exposure are over in China McDonald's. McDonald's as deadly explosion there and none of those companies seem to be really taking it it seems to be just those higher priced goods. Which might just be an apple problem. At some point the iPhone is just too expensive notes. Yeah I'm looking at right now. Gucci Gucci was up in in China a year over year new. I phones down it's concerning. I am not an apple user myself. But if you're if you're apple at this point you're seeing a bunch of other luxury good makers doing all right you're seeing you know a lot of other stuff still selling in China maybe it's not in economic issues and maybe it's not a rebellious American products maybe it's just your products and good enough for the Chinese marketplace at that price point right. We are joined now by Joseph McCann from seeking alpha particular look at a company called many of pharmaceuticals and I'm glad you're here to talk about this joke it is. I I always get nervous trying to ban on the next be health care company backed. These guys have some pretty inching stuff in the pipeline looking tells about. I my computer it could be back on that happening yet though one another and that the situation is but it definitely. Is better quality out on generic expectant that. The company is working on and I can't lie ying and a lot of peace. Drive and I. They're gonna and your direction and openly a couple of problems from that. To what they couldn't Astros they went up against the heavyweight in the days that respect the carpet that that a billion dollars a year annually and they'll. And the original plan was they wanted to be more tolerable one I've got to look at it. Fumble that redness itching and you know I've talked to doctors previously about that the major issue. And they they didn't hit certain point they were initially were on that didn't get there. But the bit of a surprising thing here what it did actually do better on epic if they could be more more years. And actually made doubled the sooners are one of the problems in particular is that the better pick while the work. I talked to doctors on my company incident but it beat that all the doctors the that would be really think about this. And they were pretty intrigued by what the company kind of look like they've made a mistake it's all these Q trial on familiar with trial ailment usually agree before you get the market. There's a lot of time to kind of help with the bill and but I that he tactical. You know it's faster and make the better your product the bump. So that he got take a bet on whether or not gonna be really marketable way is the the other current drugs out there and you know reasonable enough price point that this can really. Did B profit driver for any. Was one of the things they really think about got a bit of a billion dollars a year and they'll. But this summer to go to bear B the a lot cheaper but it could have differentiated against it but it is an orderly market opportunity that where were part of doctors packet that my company and shattered by people in touch with. People are using these products group purpose and kept them out of the latest recruit to a couple more calls on. The purely monthly Donovan really confident and I think. That kind of confusion around in the data peeking out and actually not being more powerful. Created an opportunity here and doctorate down about a dollar and now you kind of appointment in your hand to. Reevaluate that. And great talent. Do they have anything else big in the pipeline further no further along her or just the beginning stages at this point. They do what I say it to be careful about here but it is going to be a period of time people literally think about the dry you know pick up in theaters but the bigger than a quarter well according to your they actually have the pain. Compound. The foreign. And I. A different formula not your it's sort of the oppressed or if need be I think northern is in the book all to another place you work and think about things than they think you know the next six months if they're gonna look just. Yeah how big a potential opportunity this crook. Inched well Joseph McCann from seeing out for joining us the ticker symbol on Rainier is a UPH. Currently trading at six dollars 48 cents per share. Thanks for the minister. Corporate recruiter and HII always gets here we have people coming on talking about pharmaceutical companies all the time and I just don't know how you value something like this that's it so contingent upon Agassi you have to be in the industry you have to be in the medical profession and be able to understand what they're doing in the likelihood of actually having an application that place place a lot of vets and reliance specialists the two GO do and that's based. So. Either you have one of those Nash Wi-Fi networks subnet extends your network router from different parts your home yeah I'd tone actually and I don't need to. Erica so to go and we as little weasel cubes from Comcast the plug into. The electric notes and then they do great things do works so there's a few different big ones out there but it company called Euro which has been around for a while was one of the big leaders and Google has their own. Product. It's well it's called on hub and and they also have these match routers that pair with a two year router cluster network extender. And Amazon I think is kind of identifying that hate given all the home products are trying to roll out of the next few years. This is a pretty big necessities there's been some big money on cup acquire this company Europe. Hero EE RO and they haven't. Implementing halogen lamp people they never do dream we know this we'll find out soon enough we know what I Euro was worth 251 million dollars is 26 team via you know imagine it's higher and don't look at this and say he. This is Amazon and you know wants to what he went to a proprietary Amazon system that point oh totally he's in time castor Google Wi-Fi standard they can make you buy games character. Doesn't like journey ecosystem pretty much Nam and we're talking about are fair I could totally see. One of these Wi-Fi hugs combining with a Amazon echoed dot device where it would just be two for one and one small. Package yet. Makes sense they got to keep in there they don't want you going and buying Google product made big Google Nash network I don't know whether price this thing but the Gould version is 9999 box I mean that's that's a big money's been spent if you're not getting life partner I could see Amazon doing a price point combining like the dot in this Wi-Fi thing if that's the route they are going. You know somewhere around like 59 bucks I was guessing good news for all of us that the prices the price coming down bowl oh definitely definitely now a custom wise a bullied won't the Wi-Fi. If if if if the other Amazon news is that whole foods prices are down. No big surprise here they cut prices when he acquired whole foods cheese initially did it and they did yeah with seventeen was my seventeen that they you know fully rolled out the ams ownership and cut prices on a number of different products. But this is really Amazon issue is I see it I think this is just a grocery issue yet general we talked about this yesterday Procter gamble Johnson & Johnson church and the way all raising prices. And whole foods they just. Can't ignore it they're not gonna run company lost. Consumer Price Index is gone up so area does very skeptical of that it was on his. Lowering prices a whole foods and they told us about me several hundred selected. Price decreases in now they've come up with 550. Additional price increases and the BS had or hadn't had this peace and lost control today. And this kind of story where reporters love. Getting their hands on an internal communication about price increases is this a good chance for Wall Street Journal that. Stick it in now is that's all time we have for this hour of the financial exchange. When we come back taking a look at the huge money that we are spending on trucks these days. Something happened and I need to cut my son or nine nephew out of mind will I don't want them to inherit anything you must go up to date those beneficiaries on those accounts as well it will not just automatically change because you update your real warrior trust the beneficiary designation takes precedence. And me. This is the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and jokes are you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your. World stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day it's. And now the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chuck Exxon. We have days somewhat surprisingly heavy news it's you recount went into Tuesday things you know if you look at ways jolts report which we do have to go through but we have a potential. Deal in regards the government shut down there are some rumors about the US China trade deal and the markets are up Dow's up currently over 1% 276 points on. All this potential good news that we got Mike Armstrong Peter how Tucker Silva with you today. Let's start off let's go briefly into the jolts report we got this at 10 AM. Most economists have been expecting the actual number of job openings to decrease from six point 89 million down to six point 84 for the does that December data by the way. We actually got a surprise a number of job openings reached a series high of seven point three million jobs which is. You know we always say that don't ever look at just one month stated that doesn't tell full picture but. A pretty positive surprise here. And it probably speaks to the fact that we are going to continue to have increasing labor force participation rates. Over I would think at least in the first half of this year we let's say that numbers. Is high by a factor too. To have a gold car by 200000. And set it down by 80000 that's pretty darn good news yeah necessary good news for job market good news for anyone considering getting back in the job market. The number of people that I talked to an hour. Over 55 either getting back into the market to war starting their own businesses is like massive these days that's pretty it's been an interest in segment workforce. But it is surprising good news in the jolts reports there's a rumor out on Bloomberg today that. Beard. Talking about China trade deal right now we've got a deadline of march 1. Right now land trail and on March 1 the current 200 billion dollars of tariffs on Chinese goods would go from 10% up to 25% as one has at least been on the table to this point. Bloomberg is now reporting at least you know reporting on some rumors from White House aides that. That's not going to be such a such a deadline at this point the big goal post to be pushed back a little bit and that's gonna make the market feel better yet acting that's more than anything else was moving markets this morning. Is that potential for that China trade deal to be extended I. I would. Personally it's great for the markets I like that day it's making me happy today has the markets or 1% and that makes me but. I really don't want to delay that. I think you need to have an X extraordinarily. Good reason to believe that deadline other than hey we just in time to get to it because this is what China does. They beat push push push and just pushed back at the apple get that we'll get to that. And then ten years go by and you don't have anything done so I hope that if they do delay this they said another heart and said deadlines says okay. If it's not done by April 15 or whatever that date is. We are putting these penalties in place and put a real incentive for Everett come to the table and get something done and get it I'm with you on that talk about stories you're kind of sick of talking about yeah. China China trade negotiations the government shut down yes have done there's the other one that we we're hoping to not talk about today but we're going to talk about right now government is set to run out of funding on Saturday morning. And it runs at midnight on Friday night Saturday morning. Government which shut down but there is at least a tentative deal on the table right now for one point 38 billion dollars. Border wall funding. That is what's at least an agreed to by the bipartisan group of seventeen lawmakers are working on it still needs to go to congress the Senate's so how senate's. And then obviously present companies agree to it as well. And the key question is you know as one point four billion forward 55 miles of security enhancements is a close enough to. Five and a half billion for a beautiful wall yes I I don't know if that's boasted the good news if you're. Hoping to get this deal passed the good news is that we haven't heard anything from president trump he hasn't treated badly as and LA as a come out and said no chance in hell that this is going through so. If you're hoping for no government shut down which I think most people are hoping that we can at least keep the government open this is a good news and a good start. So unfortunately Bryant talk about this tomorrow and Thursday for a but we'll see. Talk about lots of other good things faster. So speaking of why I think this is just funny but speaking of I guess good things if you are one of the big debris Detroit auto makers. The average price. On pick up trucks. Right now. If the plus thousand dollars for US pickup truck right now while. Yeah I mean you've seen these pick up first relief ship towards. You know. Specializing in being a luxury exit pickup trucks for the most part I mean that all the bells and whistles and the leather seats. The dates pickup truck or folks surprise you the average buyer paid over 44000. For the full for full size pickup truck. That is 61%. Higher average price ten yours. Now the average price of cars overall increased only 28%. Pick up truck space race risen 61%. So I think it's 52 were am frequencies at 7000. Dollar to. The costs that much he still throw in the back and sophomores and surf boards and coolers. Golf clubs now. The essentials. Now so I always I always tease co workers here financial advisory victory action pickup truck and luxuries on the weekends for some fun stuff but you know your financial advisor to picture yeah and if your contractor here landscaper. Figured we tease. Kinds of the back of the truck when it went right back you know this is a trend that I mean has clearly he had some staying power at least for the last decade. The only thing I can think of stopping this is gas prices and there's nothing to indicate gas prices going to the people have short memories. It added there's a season last week GM has a new Silverado and 035. And half thousand pounds when mr. Kelly irony did. If you if you want to pull your house after it. I was I was thinking about that Titanic. And that's. That's that's that's our respond to like sixty foot on yeah. I don't know bro yeah days seems a bit but you know they also have massage chairs and you know. Touch screen besides a small TV says there's a lot of things about the new after that are necessary. I love this suspect can I can't find the back up on the statistics and unfortunately giving out. Stat side can't back up right now that's a cut but I remember reading something last year that quarter of all vehicles sold in the state taxes. Ford F series trucks. I believe that. Which is just see a lot of F 150s doubts awful autumn. So yeah I don't know I don't know if this trend ever really. Is going to stop unless you see gas prices hike through the roof if you drive a pickup truck. But he did. Wanna know what what industry people were. A trucker they're really just using it for fun stuff on the weekends. In just a show text assured dad's 63566. Tell me. What you do with your pick up truck I've never. Really happened to you when you can't yet justified cost for. I lose I mean by once you look totally Banesto. My buddies Brennan you know construction for years but he has one pickup truck he disputes that a lot of diseases are a fork in him you commutes attitude is not a far commute bullet. He Islam luxury truck it's like it 2006. At 150 just beat now. Yeah I totally are your ideas in it but that's not be so yeah he's still luxury vehicles boats replacing Mercedes and that BMW Ford or restaurants. You know touch screen. Well receipts quantum fuel. Yes it's pretty fascinating stuff so at least one part of the the terrorists. That we imposed late last year seemed to be yours you'd repose last year seemed to be having an impact US steel is going to be expanding in reopening. One of their the differences now. And Nucor Steel Dynamics and yet everybody in the steel business in the United States use. And very happy rate here's the question that I. Can in this industry. On its own. Five years from now three years from now come to survive without these tariffs placed on forest. It's. You know it's the two way street it's. Can we stop China and you know to a lesser extent Korea sometimes Japan from dumping steel below below cost right in America we can protect ourselves against bad maybe which is the flip side of haven't put in terrorists then maybe but it you know the deal out of dean playing in the goes on in this industry steel among countries is Kris. Yeah you're seem trite I mean it's good news for US deal it's good news for employees of these factories. Yeah bad news if you're trying to put up the you know steel garage or if your day you know big big construction manager trying to buy steel for these projects are. What does the lots I got it makes lobster traps up in Maine was nearly at a business you can you can source the the steel that is used to the travel as in China so. It does impact a lot of different areas and steel prices are way way up since mr. announced. You know where you take a quick break when we come back. I folks this is Mike Armstrong and I'm joined by estate planning attorney Todd lets you with your financial exchange quick tip of the day. Today we're talking about the differences between revote Kabul and your rebuild Kabul trusts are taught you what is the biggest difference between a revote Kabul verses and durable global trust. You know this is probably the most frequently asked question that that I get here richer people just wanna know that and there are really a lot of differences but what I'm gonna do is just tell you what we're talking about the differences between a Medicaid irrevocable trust has folks there's so many kinds of irrevocable trusts out there I want to be clear that this is those income only Medicaid. Irrevocable trusts that are designed to protect assets from the owners now vs. A revote couple family type trust. The biggest difference between the two is that. Revoke Opel trust will never protect assets from the nursing a five years ten years doesn't matter how long your assets current. But with an irrevocable trust after the assets have been put in there for five years. Then they will be protected from the cost of long term care that's really that different well it's fair to pay an attorney to draft trust to revoke and I just go and have them change it too and revoke apple trust. So many people love to do that you could but no. You actually have to start over the language of the trust itself is key. In making it protected from the nursing homes so you can't just make the word revoke oval irrevocable and the out of there not so easy but that's the big difference lies control wise I think you're still. About the same. Excellent while the estate planning expert to Christian and don't have written a brand new guys don't answer the most common questions you have about the differences between revote Kabul and irrevocable trusts you can press has brand new guide by calling 866848. 5699. How quickly our our listeners answer the question am -- right answer we got but we did have to correct answer the question when Abraham Lincoln ran for reelection and 1864. What party did he run under and the answer was the national union party Peter who had the at their correct answer. That was Marcus from South Dennis Massachusetts knew that because they were gonna vote for Republicans and one of the country at that point so they went. National union effort Abraham Lincoln and Marcus is the winner a fifty dollar gas card to be today brought to you by the Armstrong advisory group. With the market still volatile now is a great time for review of your portfolio call 803934. Double 01. And setup your free no obligation consultation today that's 803934001. So Peter I feel like you're the only one with a direct exposure this meant to go to you on this your Q your middle kid is when he said 2121. Youngest is eighteen. Can just graduated are graduating high school the springer artists directly better. How many of himself included and his friends are smoking. That I know of how how often do you see us I have not seen it I heard about it. He's actually he's of the youngest is a great athlete so he's Mexicans in reform. Nicotine products but. They seem to be every hour they do the use of these things. Year over year increase by 38%. Actual smoking decreases just tobacco use among. Among schools do injuries 38% weeping and Julie India exactly in 2018. 21% of high school students. It. How many one point 1% one out of five that's pretty high that's pretty. Now I mean I'm guessing smoking rates for high schoolers back and like the sixties and seventies by one like 60%. Would be my guess it's not. Hi compares to Oilers and it's right I mean tobacco use when I was in school I think was probably in the low teens now less than 10%. Guys dipping Copenhagen yeah yeah that's pretty popular with such a wonderful man asked the discuss and definitely. Now. Never did that. So it's again. The CC was when the surveyed but and FDA's talking about really stepping in here and limiting. Players they can sell these things going forward it is that's in street party issues like sixteen year old can get their hands properties gas stations. And 38%. Increase mean. Huge name another consumer product use of which is up by 30% a year now how can they get does easily. The securities. And same thing as cigarettes. Injury you get cigarettes yet. I'd open in sixty news today Clinton political parties here. Shirt a difference. This fall. In but like. That this is out. I think that what's gonna happen as you can only bodies like eight shops replace rate base have to be eighteen or 21 based on what state humans aren't aren't gonna regulate it more like packing the problems we have no idea what being addicted to contain and on the other side effects of cigarettes as. That's what worries me with these tools in the street everything we don't know the long term effects of whatever it is in these ordeals yeah. This is all very new. It feel like an old man. To explain this one. Minute sixteen Euro notes that while a bank. I know it's been racing's first came out. I don't know 67 years ago I was the first to at least I was talking to this guy at at a bash a prayer just flown from California and he'd be the entire flight. The oversell unregulated at first that you could smoke them you can use them on airplanes without any sort of re election as a sack as a compared to a pack of cigarettes. Rested on the spot future like a taxi and the government like this system that nicotine's. Consumption so the smoke just disappears very quickly it's water. Right so it's it's not smoke where there's no question though I mean it looks like it's broke but it. There are advantages like that it while jewel was only created seventeen journalists. Generic companies before that that distance. Yeah I mean. Nothing like you know nothing like addictive product getting about sixteen year old country and customers like unfortunately so we'll see what they think the FDA is a lot more attention in this area active they've issued some guidance. They've really come through these companies need those companies james' behavior a little bit and they stopped the flavor stuff. Per day they talked about the Arab League know you know who did it acting gallon Altria stop selling flavored. It is there. Activists said it's now worth are now risk. Then you know jealousy certainly masters is that other states. Local and cigarettes and tobacco products here in our studios Indian masters you can't buy tobacco products. And so and it's a submitted to stick same vapor bad habits smoking weed in better for you okay based on what a day. Mean it could be all a bit at that no that's possible candidates actually has health benefits beeping does not. Well it's an alternative to smoking and attack but you're talking about consuming smoke and what that test you speaking hypothetically I wouldn't it could be better for it and smoking should. Yeah I had I had no evidence has hurt us I don't think yeah person does I don't buy it that's on site and I think maybe you can just say that chicken. Then I realized my topic for both. Of those like Alexander does is known to be an alternative to you know pain released jerked open your things like that the deepening. Yeah the big gaping kind of came on the scene as a way to get you stop smoking cigarettes but then the company's Austin real positive week you know if we make it. Public flavor than my guns and sixteen Euro and that there's too many people get a Ritalin or girl they could get that team him you know. Sit down and study one on the nicotine in terms like does that. Oh trust me it does. There's not a bad I'm old enough that briefly to an integral promise. The but it you know the US and batteries you're mr. there's nothing like it advocate team to concentrate on line. Notre. We haven't talked about Carlos did we talked about last week. And what we do plus how to be a first times we saw off October that we haven't mentioned Carlos gala in the sun but. Not specifically Carroll is going related but Nissan is really the completely restructuring their projections and there they're profit forecasts. They're they're blaming big own peace for a little bit of this thing we've got appease and contractual obligations there at the game but in reality says that our sales. Yet nine point two billion yen charge. To cover the costs and deferred compensation for. Former chairman gun sounds big it's 81 million dollars. Yeah led Barry Armstrong is leading in the free Carlos don't movement he has these assets it is just the Japanese don't like that. They get this guy from France running their identities are. Quite frankly that's what all the evidence seems to point to this part here we haven't seen anything to really contradict that because they just keep me in prison without actually having charges. So that's where the evidence points at the moment but yet Nissan taking a hit to their profit forecasts. But really it has much more to do with the fact that. They were saying that they're planning on selling five point nine million cars and that's. Fallen down five point six million which is the same thing that all the other car manufacturers are facing. Slowing sales in both the US and Europe. Speaking of speaking of car sales and we talked a little bit about this company before but Softbank has invested 940 million dollars in company called new euros of one of these ones do what's they're driver lists and it's what they do in the. Just also shut out 940 million dollars in venture capital round is is huge debt that's. God is a period in two point seven billion dollars yen and the east euros. They look like. It looks like vacuum cleaners or they're like small versions of cars Jeff that you know are not meant to look like cars and it looks like the business model is. Let's have moved around suburbs where it's kind of a simple environment and it's not like you're not gonna busy city streets lot of pedestrians for running simple roots getting. Suburban groceries to suburban homes. You'll notice there's nobody testing journalist vehicles in stage. New York City or Boston that not an easy environments operative but California Texas Arizona there's all these tests going on. This one specifically the design is they want to you don't wanna drive people airports and trying to please Hoover that they just want to deliver groceries mainly and other small items. From the local grocery store. Over somebody's house right now. They're actually doing this in parts of Arizona Scottsdale that charged about six bucks for delivery from the local Krueger's fried food so they're doing this to some degree I think it's going to be so fascinating when this trip you know when this is everywhere. You can just ran into a drive the cost solution delivery of what's the social blowback to this. Their noses and Arizona were both CD drive was vehicles being tested it's like the lights. They go on the swerved in front of the cars in the try to make and go on a road they try to make it to him on breaks used ethnic group of people out there and look at this is a mortal threat to. Transportation based jobs. I mean that seems like a bad idea given that there are cameras everywhere on this thing yeah if anyone's going to be charged with you know earlier today you can't just.
