This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and sharks are now. You're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. Well we're getting close to wrapping up the first full week in February here and as we I had towards the weekend. Market start to feel. But I literally put the don't who don't live jittery the markets don't want to go walk today. We've got the Dow off about a 188 points right now yes and he is off as well NASDAQ also in negative territory chuck and Mike here today doctors behind the board as well. And I think it makes sense that can talk about when the key shifts that we've seen. In terms of the story with regards to the US and China. In the game of chicken they've been playing for the last. No fifteen months or so twelve months twelve months. And that is you know the trade negotiations that are going on the at this point yesterday on the show now on the show would during the show rather Larry Kudlow. Senior economic advise president hopes pocket that was a little loud and thank you Larry. And then he came out and said that there are still had to deal of distance between the two sides coming to a deal. A little bit after that we got a report that president trump the president you were unlikely to meet before the march march 1. Expiration of the tree truce. And an early this morning we got a report from the Wall Street Journal suggesting. That there has yet to be a draft document put together between the US Johnson a team to put to writing. In draft this. Rank and there's only three weeks into the dead able we are. I think it's framing out for one of two things either we are going to have. New tariffs snapping in or we're going to have to. It doesn't seem like anything has the possibility of getting them by march 1 to do you get this sense it in. I don't just to give you an idea. As to what markets are expecting out of it like I can't really get a sense as to whether they're looking in saying that he would delay is more likely or implementation of tariffs. I I feel like. If if we continue to get up towards that deadline things are gonna get a little bit worse until we get a delay potentially. So I I I guess at Ed just that a whole lot not really said anything well. I've read kind of form your blogger in to a question here which is I think the markets are not quite factoring in. The failure of something that doesn't feel like in this if it feels like the markets are saying hey this fight India delay they're betting on a delay more than they are increased airs at this. And in two to be clear. The increase in tariffs that would occur would be the ones that were originally scheduled to occur at the end of the year. Which should be an increase in the tariff rate from 10% to 25%. To do another 200 billion tariffs. I can't do the math in my head right now like I can't remember exactly what ones. It sounds right I don't know to be completely honest turf and so the big thing is tape becomes much more difficult to export to China. As a result China would likely Levy some additional tariffs against the United States and also. Could you play around those things such as its currency and so forth in order. To try to new strike back at the United States but. You know for the how did that the eight weeks from early December. Through late January. That the dominant theme when it came to trade talks was optimism. Now we're getting into the pessimism side to things. And so I think it it's really important to to note a couple different things you want one thing that I've been focused on just kind of internally over the last. Few weeks is is making sure that you know at is I go about kind of just looking at this market from an investor's perspective. It's it's realizing that different investors. Have different time horizons different goals for for doing things and so if you're short term investor the fact that things have been so optimistic for the last eight weeks. Suggest that hey if you have short term needs. It's probably a pretty good time to start make sure your money out of the market to satisfy the short term needs. On the other hand if you're long term investor and you're not touching money for 6121520. Years. Trying to play the game should they get in or get out to be really dangerous to you because let's say that tomorrow there's a resolution on this. Peter short term need and you miss out on a little bit gain in the short term he would ever be deal. If you are long term investor you pulled out and you're waiting to get back in. You're potentially missing out on all types of gains people out of the Smart. The day when I was actually telling people the other day is that you what makes me a lot more nervous than the nearly 20% drop we saw on the fourth quarter of last year is that 9% increase that we saw just the month Jamestown rapid yeah that may mean a lot of or nervous in the big drops that we so volatility. Either direction doesn't typically bold well towards long term stability right now it's it's it's just it it's something that does make you nervous I feel kind of the same way and it's not that I expect the bottom necessarily fallout of things but. I will get you know the economic data that we've gotten over the last month. It's gotten. Her anyway now you know it's your you're a little bit there was a week of data from the US last week where there're couple things that did look decent yet a good I. What was today. Good manufacturing report that came out yet it decent New York fed reports it's OK maybe there's a couple signs of life here. But in general it's been you know the international picture continues to deteriorate a particular in Europe we're seeing some real issues over there are moments. But you know it's not like that date is gotten 9% federal fraud think the big thing. Earnings guidance has been a little bit firmer than people expected. A little a little a little bit yeah you know that there there were some companies that came out and part of it also some companies did the damage in the fourth quarter and it was an apple came out. Prior to the new year and said hey our earnings for the quarter gonna be garbage and they got ahead of it and so their stock is rallied on the back end of it. I see the real difference being the commentary that. I think that's really I do answer and they've said we're gonna backstop so. Are we gonna make predictions here we got three weeks until the trade deadline. Deadline for division I division as it has all the trade deadline it technically is security is trade deadline so I guess definitely we've we've got the the NBA intraday trade deadline just passed yesterday now we've got these guys yesterday that. I'm saying that delay. Tier implementation I don't think anything gets done and I don't think they snap tears in March 1 guessing along the delays well. Well that's all right I. Three month elect McHale to sixty days. So you're saying delay to you're not an isolated saying no tariffs sentimental human collector looked elect and got to may first so that's where I stand at the moment so while welcome back to trade him SharePoint times next couple weeks to unfortunate trust me it's going to be like every headline that he gives you. I'm I'm still waiting for CNBC to come out with there but it's going to be you know apocalypse countdown or something like that for you know that deadline expire in them. I'm surprised they don't have it up yet relatives were three weeks out but I was this time I would guess either next week the week after. It's going to be one of those little takers you know kind of like 24 where it's. You know a year just. Don't condone them. For the record every of people yelling at me are you you don't want them to be hard on China I I think that there's going to be a delay I don't want their to be a delay. But I think there will and in civil and locked in as long as your here in you've gone through the economic pain it's being inflicted by this conflict. You might as well get a big old deal out of it maybe this could be a poll question today who would you want to do it your listeners what you wanna do. May be. Haven't. It has guy's side there could be a trade deal. That's what what do they what do what do you think happens between the US and China by the end of this year trade deal completed. Trade no trade deal about your year but it is earmarks and this is a country deal completed aka Doby the first option yet the second option will be tariffs increase in trade deal not completed our and the third option will be delayed. Ian implementation of clean the tires so let's go to court and that up. And it up and then once it's on they'd go to financial exchange showed dot com to cast your vote that don't go there right now because it's it's yesterday apple but eventually we're gonna get the new one up there. This story broke it was about. 6 PM last night with a post. On medium by Amazon's CEO Jeff Bezos talent viral into order and end man I'll tell pretty quickly to did you guys read this by the way that. Detailed. I mean why like I would lose like this this the kind of being aware. I just don't see this ending particularly well for the national inquire of him out as a yeah this this is a how. I think it's a par this reminds me of either of you watch any of the Batman movies with boundaries from old. Personal that he did of course it kind of reminds me of I think it's the third one where one of the accountants and Bruce Wayne's company. Is trying to blackmail them and Morgan Freeman's character just goes yeah you think that your boss is a superhero running around killing people and hurting people tonight and he's also the most powerful man in the city in your idea is to blackmail him out knows I was Reese yeah that's kind of what I feel like Jeff Bezos just did is like so you'd think that you're gonna blackmail me. Here you go with pictures of naked naked pictures of naked pictures yeah let's go to these tried male with naked pictures of himself gap like that's gonna work. Now and so. What does he can jump out so this but I think yeah I think they think they're operating in the 1960s were that would have been a big deal and it's now or in nineteen the key players. So this is going to would get pretty aggressive I would imagine over the next couple months I think there's going to be significant escalation what I do think it's going to happen. I think this is the the breaking of the damned is that I would imagine this is not the first time. That MI the publisher of the national buyers on this. I wouldn't be surprised you see similar stories coming out in the near future and reading the I wish I had some sort of the expertise because I'm reading this email and I can't tell if there's anything that they've done here that is. Legally speaking blackmail and no idea at its variants seem yeah if as looks terrible from a PR perspective minister and constantly it's just very unseemly soap will continue to keep updated on that as well. Let's take a break when we come back we're gonna talk about how seniors has new. Life after a bankruptcy judge. Proves a deal to keep them afloat that's coming up right after this break. Hi everybody it's very Armstrong from the financial exchange and I'm joined by Jake to Lee who's the executive vice president of leader bank. We're talking about SBA loans you know we hear a lot about SBA loans small business loans Jack. But I don't think people really understand. How they can be used and why they're so valuable to the small business community. Make spare yet we had been really focused on providing small business lending in the local community and local business owners. And the programs that are available power very helpful so we are preferred SBA lender you know what that means is that. We can quickly make decisions in under rate small business loans in house. Andy to be used for right purposes for small business owners give us an example. Well one example that recently happened was there was a restaurant in Cambridge when I was growing very rapidly they are always full occupancy. And the space next door to them became available. So they wanted to. Take on that space needs capital to sort build out. The restaurant. And you know was about a 300000 dollar loan. About it how many years did they have to pay it back typically these types of loans vary anywhere between five to ten years lots of time. So you know we were able to quickly make that. Underwriting decision provide in the capital expanded rexrodt as world tremendously them as just wanted one of many examples in what they're landscaper or. Factional services unit loan officers that are available to blog talked of small businesses we have dedicated small business lenders. Tucker we have our new poll question up on the website call it's up to the poll question is now up on financial exchange of dot com you can head over there and check it out. And yes it did just three votes the question is do you think if trade deal between the US and China will be struck by the end of the month. Three options yes that you'll be struck to new deal and three no there will be in another delay. And so I'm voting on a delay at this point addicts can had financial exchange showed dot com invoked and also Texas at 63566. If you have any specific thoughts on what is going on. With the US China trade deal. Here's what we know is going on between this year's and its creditors at this point. Here's one a hearing aid through a bankruptcy court chew except the bit of Eddie Lampard that five point two billion dollar offer to try to keep company of votes Sears. Stay in business correct I didn't think this is gonna happen but what they did I haven't seen the details on the deal they struck but they struck a deal stick and Lampard struck a deal. With the PBGC and they withdrew their complaint. So I don't know what deal they struck a confined any details on what. Actually the terms were but once they withdrew their complaint I think that's what really pushed the judged allow this to go through. So 425 stores approximately 45000 jobs. I still wonder if you're making a deal to save the current employees at the price of the former employees who get pension. Now this also. Is not doing anything to stem the tide against yours for the long I think I think is a pretty good chance that we are right back here. See with in three years. You know somewhere in that ballpark so. You know that's but that's a really so you have 99000. Pensioners that's summit he'll participate in the Sears and Kmart pensions. And see your push into this deal to save 45000 jobs but I think you're doing so at the risk of 99000 pensioners. What's really at the risk kids it's just look the PBGC is eventually going to pick this up which means that you Meehan talker eventually gonna pick this up because they're going to need more money is the PBGC does have enough money. At this point so. It's you know Sears is going to stay open the gonna keep 425. Stores open 45000. Jobs. I wouldn't be surprised we start hearing about more store closures. Within nine months away and you know it could even be sooner than that to be honest. But so Eddie Lampard deal to buy Sears approved here Tucker I believe I had a prediction on this one that there's still going to be around a year from now dead. So I'll put that I hear from one. January it was like a month ago aka somewhere in the ballpark so clocks ticking startle a better public and good at this point. A headline from CNBC is Americans are starting to feel about feel better about buying homes soared though. Yeah I mean better today it means that just 15%. People think that now is a good time to my home which is an increase month over month which is a good thing. Let you know that that's not terribly high percentage. Who did this survey was that Fannie Mae. Core logic. Cures to fine we here this. I'd be accused find this survey data historically and looked around for that couldn't find it yet and the reason why I am just curious if this core relates to. When it's actually good time by home and that when most people think it's bad maybe it's actually good time. You know like I think about back to a 120112012. I don't know a lot terrible figured it was a good time to buy a home and write but it turned out to be darned good timely if you were able to buy in at those times then so. I look at this and I just I wish I had more information because obviously it's still as a relatively low number of people that think you know to return to buy a house. I just wish I historical data on this compared to me we can definitely say that generally speaking bad feeling about the stock market with the average investor tends to be wrong that that data oftentimes it is incorrect about when people think that the stock market is overpriced current price so. Talking to that you can put your home searched on on hold just because obviously at the near the bay becoming an effort in Vegas and hands will just a little especially this week yeah. That not a not a good week. Odd knowing he Ben's gone through a little bit and via growth spurt right now were in constant attention all the so with an IQ notice crawl back when everybody but I went I went to that and my. Sixteen. He's a there ego that this is why continue to remain childless Lois is saying it's actually higher she's she's pointing it means it's more like what Torre to. Now let's appearance privately there insults can last point your goal that's an okay let's just over anyway. But so what what's what's your planned for kind of the spring you can start poking around again then. I mean will discounted taken advantage on its side on Stephen Moore and obviously priorities. Witnessed it ready to go for life and everything that slow so yeah it's definitely taken a backseat to step into convexity we're very fork in a very fortunate situation right now. With the in laws so you know we're just gonna you know keep and I haven't really not a forces. Ford seeking a billion dollars in two while plants in the Chicago area to try to expand production of the new Ford Explorer and Lincoln. They're gonna have to do if their you know pretty much eliminating every other kind of car that they're making other than the explorer and the the F series but together they're going to be adding another 500 jobs that Chicago area assembly plants this is all part of their plan by you know this is a nice headline for Ford but it is all part of their eleven billion dollar restructuring plan. Which is overall going to be reducing the work. Force in by the way as they are getting rid of via the stands and so forth the suvs are actually more a bigger lineup and I realized to be honest escaped edge. They've they've got the export to get the expedition which is the biggest and they have the blacks which I don't really know where that fits is that when it's huge for caterers and stuff no it so I thought that's what he was the edge not a flax. It's like it's it's like a full size he kind of just looks like a big box. By Dahlia. It's kind of like a boxy midsize this year VS they got that in the they also well above eco sport which is really small one. The kind of goes up against like the hunt each RV and things like that so they've got six suvs there. And then you've got the big lake utility and is the transit connect that's what on now that the transit connect in the transit. Are there big ones there. And then obviously they got you know decent sized via. Truck line up as well you know the whole apps year's super duty and in on down the road but this can add 500 jobs to fort Chicago area assembly plant. That's about a seven sorry about an 8% increase actually. In particular they're also building a new body shop and heat shop at these assembly plants. And so it looks like it's going to be some good jobs coming into that Chicago area this man. Simple without cutting thousands of jobs in Europe and adding some in the Chicago area or straight to it's it's just kind of the way in I'll tell you there's Euro auto sales numbers. Different hot quite frankly quite proud garbage auto sales numbers pretty much everywhere in the world right now and if you talk about bad ones China right now is going through the first year over year contraction in auto sales. In the last like fifteen years or something like that. Yet China slid it back but it's like gates is not particularly good there. At the moment. Let's take a break when we come back we've got Wall Street watching also talk about a local company reporting earnings that's right Hasbro the big toy maker of data. Let you know when we come back. Down about four today is it just some consolidation or something else going on today and they. Reported slightly better than expected me they are still very much struggling with fair to call their underwear but underwear socks this is really not doing much for them they're really having a tough time differentiating. Where they do seem to be seen seeing some growth is on the active Wear brand so they don't champion rents for instance that's history selling pretty well they're seeing some growth there. And their guidance for Torre nineteen didn't see any huge growth but you know modest growth and that's really what investors are looking for the also managed to pay down about 403 million dollars in debt. During the tour event down a three point eight deal in which was also helpful let's get geared down 10% no more flat tires and nobody's buying cars like we just mentioned so they are really having a very difficult time keeping up in international markets particularly China India do not seem to be buying me tires and it makes sense here we look at these auto sales numbers there are just tanking and just you know less new cars at their less need for new tires and less miles driven does not seem to be good this company right now. The car store misty Peter if you wanna hear. Story in the car story aka so I'm I'm coming back from one of our offices yesterday. And it you know it's kind of rainy it's not not particularly nice out in as I play the parking lot and is that something kind of flies off my my windshield tear. No we don't like a little like these papers and Alex and the public flier there to open you know. Get home you know it's like 730 or so just because like it was you know late day was meeting my wife for dinners I go and Newt drive to where is meeting your for dinner announcements and on abstinence kind of witnessed the bar she comes in should they take you get into a car accident like. She's like you get into a partisan like. Know what he's talking about come out. And I guess someone had just black the back corner of my car or and saw a note so I think the thing that flew off was the no. And now I can't get it to know who took whole ball to about the fact they whacked McCardell bumper bumpers like dented in now they'd elect its its good to know that Samie leaves a note yet so I feel good similar note. Pain and and see what's it like pouring rain yesterday it wasn't like this thing was like vanish like I just a while Michael Jackson was to put a flyer on news weather something Glenn yes it does begin in the back left corner my card I gotta get out now that Julio gives. I go outside to look at him like. The gotten a car accident. In lake and go through like I I go to my hold them at even back up yesterday so that would in the back in any idea that someone he left a note and I just didn't realize that was on the carcass was dark out I just didn't see music that maybe that console. Listening as we speak that kind of sex Jack so if they are text is at 63566. And in my car it is let me know if you got my card yesterday it would it would be great to not because it was just it was sitting in the parking lot and it looks good and now it doesn't appreciate the note. Texas 63566. If you get my car yesterday. Had a good car story. I thought it was an accident that was pretty good has broad the yacht parked pocket based toy company. They were down 9% in premarket trading taking a quick look at them today right now actually only down about 5% they've rallied a little bit. But what's big reason for the decline is all the toys arrest liquidation are there other factors. As well Spezza that that's what they're pointing that they're saying hey look the Toys 'R' Us liquidations really hurt us for the sales of you know ever monopoly the near his won their big brands. As well as. They have a lot of the and they did do a lot of sales for Disney movies Tuesday Star Wars. Frozen brands that just aren't selling because there weren't any new movies recently. Clearly on the go. Nice. And on the other hand though their main competitor Hasbro's main competitors Mattel. That's stock is up 22%. That says. Tale to toy companies the FA EU have this company that they'd do the same thing I mean OK so Hasbro has monopoly in their from Mattel. Student Mattel has scrabble Barbie and you know lay these are very similar competitive products. In one comes up 2.2 percent of the went down 4% Mattel reported earnings too and had nothing to say about Toys 'R' Us and. What I find particularly interesting about this if you look at these companies over the last five years. They've moved in opposite directions and I did they have Hasbro's kind of big cranking along for the last five years worth Mattel is that all kinds of questions about the products they haven't and whether or not they're going. To be honest to be able to survive what they went to a few quarters on profitability I now regret so you know for Hasbro. I look at business okay like that there's a miss that's going on here and I don't know if they were just too heavily allocated towards Toys 'R' Us or what it is. But I also think with some other licensing you know you you mention they've got pros they've got Star Wars yet. Talked to correct does that feel like there's a little bit of Star Wars fatigue out there did you find. I mean while we at the point of via the solo movies just like our rights. We did it it just it feels like there's a little fatigue there and so while I know that's like better health. I think Israel questions on that for Disney. Now they've paid out what might happen now I think they're gonna be just fine because they still love this marvel universe that just prints money yeah I mean like literally prints money that they've done. I think period either 2222. Superhero films now our. And it did not showing any sign of slow down you know it's it's like no one is sick of those like even. I went to see one last and as technology is pretty good actually it is like you don't normally see in annually in pretty good so. You know. The Disney will be OK but I do have questions about that Star Wars franchise. I mean I don't think this is the case but I worry off of this earnings report if Hasbro built their profits off of two as the rest of the last five years. I don't think they did tonight. You look at its earnings report and you have their main competitor saying to his arrest really didn't impact our sales and them saying you know treasurer's really hurt our sales. I hope that this company continues succeed without treacherous out there. Yeah I mean that Palau yesterday interest really turned a lot of fans off. Well and here's the thing with Star Wars to be honest in this is not a has broached this at Disney issue. I think part of the reason that that first new move you'll what was the first new. The the watch on the force awakens. The first new on the first approached it was the force awakens. I think part of the reason was just there'd been no good Star Wars movies for thirty years boy yeah. There'll be regional actors in his while an I just kind of look at it from like supply and demand perspective he had this huge demand for anything that was just a capable start worst product yeah. And so you can heal these people go and in. When you didn't start just every year happening. Mediocre to. Produce slightly above average movies do you keep it to a billion dollars on the Mikey you've got you've gotten. It just looks like a money with which it is. You know with what is real motives we see some sort of effort to. You know towards a story is exactly so I've I've got questions on Star Wars there but we'll save those for for another day right now. United Airlines talking about pulling away from Expedia and it's a contract dispute to used to be big Expedia. I remember the last time I went there. Now I've never used Expedia now. So I will use Google flights actually I I do now and Obama is it is the past better than pretty much anything out there making these you know did a lot of people book flights through these third party operators and Expedia which also owns orbits you know does have a lot of loyal customers. This does happen jetBlue did a few years ago when they had to pull the flights from Expedia I believe is expedient it publicly and just who went back I believe. They did DSL away it's just a contract disputes the same thing yeah when you we lose that TV channel. On Verizon. Or yeah it will Basilan related fourth so that's a get worked out of the time being. It's quite possibly can't book any united flights on XP year orbits which would be of little bit disruptive do you think that's. A walk bigger loss for you know aided or for Expedia. I would say Expedia yeah I think you know if if you're someone who flies united allot. You're still gonna play you probably don't the united website to fly anyway if you or someone who just books every now and then. If you go on expedient and those flights are listed unit got a lot of flights in the United States I mean they're huge. And especially if you're trying to go east to west there's a ton of connections through either Chicago or I believe Dallas is their of these either Dallas or Houston I forget which. And so. I look at it and I think it's a bigger loss for Expedia because it makes their platform will. The platform does have some. So you know those aggregators rely on a week we need you know data and we need Brit you know options coming in in order for it to look like we have a lot. They don't have it I think it hurts them so I do wonder if by this is just as you mentioned similar to. You know cable negotiations. Something to get resolved before a deadline hits but it's. Right now it's they would probably have a bigger impact on Expedia. Then unite. Let's take a break right now when we come back we're going to be talking about. Amazon investing in a driver was car startup because hey everyone's doing it these days. This this does make sense for an as far as looked I don't think have you either you heard of them doing anything on the driver aside to this point he added. Not really a driver list but they did have a small little robot out in Seattle I think I'll remember that if I don't robot and didn't get beat up I think probably eight irresistible sidewalk robot they would drive a year door. Pocket pack some product to get to get you though. Does so adorable lows of times if that's what headlights and adorable robot. No I don't I thought that they had one. As you know the big thing I was thinking of was Google had a problem with their self driving cars where in some of the seas they were testing and people were attacking them because there is too late they're just like in the good you know oh is gonna get rid of view of human jobs let's. Attacked as one of the funny ones that I saw was and the self driving cars. There's there's one out in Arizona it's testing just package delivery and there's no paddles no move try and address steering wheel nothing. No windows sounds. But it has to have a side view Mears in order to drive players that are it's by regulations that's exactly mirrors. If the credit if there's a there's another great video by the way if anyone gets a chance to go to YouTube. The two of you familiar with Boston dynamics that wants to make those crazy robot that power about everything now Ike they have the dog one and having a person one's really open doors terrified. So they have there's a great YouTube video up there it's titled every time Boston dynamics is abused a robot. And it's pretty much like them putting robots in situations where they failed like fall over and stuff like that and it's just really good but I digress back to the Amazon investment here. So it dead values Arora innovation that more than two billion dollars this is a 530 million dollar fundraising round. Led by Sequoia Capital and yeah this makes perfect sense for Amazon even if these don't even get on to the streets. Just you know forklifts and things like that they could use within their massive warehouse is would be incredibly costs it. Well on and you'll be in Amazon's already used a whole bunch robotics in their warehouse as you mentioned with that I keep the systems. Based rate a pin it's somewhere in the upper part of masters I can't remember where he had maybe Burlington Earl looked in Bedford somewhere in that range I think. But so you know Amazon obviously his interest in what I find interesting about how Amazon is deployed robotics in their warehouses. I think it's the right way to do in that it's not to replace human beings says is to make them more productive and for all the criticism that I think you can give to Amazon about its working conditions in its warehouses a lot of which I think is justified by the way I think that you know it's it they're really tough jobs and I still don't think they're paying off. They are continuing to rely on human beings and supplementing them with robotics to make them more productive. So here's a question for at Amazon rolled doubts this year Ridley and Tony eighteen that new program where you can start your own company delivering packages for Amazon. Yes another wanna put you out of business with robots right it does it seem like the only reason they did that instead of just you know building and out themselves as they cynicism is infection exist for five years before which replace. And the other thing that bear mentions on that I tend to agree with now is they don't wanna get into unions and so by having it be a neo. They're young group of hundreds of companies that do local delivery as opposed to Amazon delivery drivers it helps them keep unions back. And maybe that yeah maybe I'm just being too pessimistic here Bentley. Can totally see him doing OK we don't start up all these tiny small business and we gave you loans for cars and now by the way. Robots are going to be delivering packed as we don't need anymore. That's it so evils I don't even know I can get that cynical and I'm usually pretty. Pretty dark but I mean I I made it I do really dark place that does happen Amazon there India site is restock after they cut their stay in their joint venture in order to bring in line with new regulations that prevent. Foreign owned companies from stocking shelves with their own goods Yasser it sounds to me a program this recede law that really seemed to just target. The Amazon's new world and the concern was hey you guys do this all the time. You allow third party sellers selling your site and then you learn how to make the product and then just undercut him and put that business as they want to stop that. And so it seems like it's somewhat worked in this case is Amazon has mainly divested of those companies that they operate there but. I'm not sure that it's really prevent this. Know if it's it really is unclear just because there's enough ways to kind of move things around through shell companies and right for ownership structures and things like that so I think it. How does it temper previously mentioned that I don't know that fixes the problem for the long them. And it Tucker's is still with us for two hours every stroke you know mode most people go into. A cage with two animals. We need some kind of defense some sort of stimulus you know something to keep them alert and alive cells look again chuck Mike and soccer here. And markets continue to be in sell off mode at the moment the day after markets were down about 1%. Across the board. We're continuing to see a sell off and all the major US indices. Taking a quick look around right now the Dow was off 268 points the NASDAQ off 22. I'm sorry that S&P off 22 and the NASDAQ off 51 points at the moment the big is that we got yesterday Mike some concern start to build on the US China true. Read front yeah they are so we've got three weeks before the march 1 deadline. And Larry Kudlow in particular came out and said there's a pretty long way to go before things get done here there'd been. Thank you there'd been a anonymous source saying that you know really nothing has been dealt with and that trump and she are not going to meet for the deadlines so. At this point in time it's looking in markets are starting to react to the fact that we are probably not going to trade deal done by march 1. The only question that remains is there a delay of the trade deal or is there just a increasing the terrorist. And the good news is that that is our poll question of the day up right now with financial exchange show dot com you can head over there invoked in that poll. Do you think a trade deal between the US and China will be struck by the end of the month the answers are yes no or no but there will be another delay and so Tucker what kind of results are we seeing at this. Point yet the majority of our listeners 86%. Say no there will be another delay however. I'm regards to the trade deal and only 9% say yes. And you'll distract and no deal whatsoever at four and a half percent I mean the market today seems to be leaning towards the no deal. I would say that's true and what happens if there is no deal what happens to the market market today I think is at least saying hey we don't think. A deal is getting done I don't think it's pricing in that there won't be an extension. And in the reason why is because here's the deal. If you have no deal but in extension it still means you have additional tariffs that are in place that still creates additional drag and so forth so. You know I've I think at this point. Look as I've said since the beginning. Trying to predict who's the with the winner's going to be on this is a fool's errand do not try to get into that game. All you know is that both sides are sitting there saying hey we need to come out. The winner we need to show that were tough and that's a game of chicken and you do not pick winners in games of chicken. Sears didn't pick or rather the the bankruptcy court did pick a winner saying that. Any leopards bid from yes L partners or whatever the heck they're called is going to win that five point two billion dollar bid they approve the deal masseuse he was granted. It is a second or third life for them now. I don't even now. Big guy at that for the time being at least it looks like 425. Sears stores Sears Kmart stores and remain open with 45000 employees staying there it's years. The big news here was that. Lampard and his hedge fund real with a straight to deal with the pension benefit guarantee corporation there in the biggest unsecured creditors teachers seers. I don't I haven't found. If this company goes through bankruptcy two years from now in all likelihood PBGC is going to have to pick up that pensions of the 99000 former employees at Sears that are getting paid. And I think it's safe to say there is a non zero chance that a Sears does go into bankruptcy at some point again in the future just because I don't think that this reprieve solves any of the problems that they're facing now doesn't seem to. Man don't see how just having fewer stores. That still attracting many customers. Richard. Folks this next story is going to be one of the ones that I think you'll hear an awful lot of over the next couple months I first noticed it about. Two or three weeks ago. And here's what's going on so pretty much win tax reform went into effect last year. The IRS issued new withholding tables for. A whole bunch of pretty much everyone you know all companies get new withholding tables what that means if you are an employee of the company. That pays used through the W two wage system. What it means is that you withhold taxes so you paycheck might say OK you got 2000 this for this two weeks. But we're gonna withhold 600 in federal taxes some of the state taxes and on and on and on 41 K contributions and all that dip. They messed up. The withholding for personal income taxes. And he I'll give you an example this my wife who was a guidance counselor. I checked her withhold and when I got her W two for this year. It was half of what was the previous and now. Tax reform was helpful for a lot of people but I don't think there are a couple of percent helped I don't think it reduce my wife's tax burden by 50%. In in fact actually ran through a couple calculators on line I've talked to a couple other people. On this if you are Ian kind of that median income for most American families between fifty and 70000 dollars a year. In a lot of cases if you did not change your tax withholding. You wore in some cases owing two to 3000 dollars where you might previously gotten a two to 3000 dollar refund. Yet people are going to be very very surprised by this because you know what the content and average American isn't terribly good that is. Saving that extra money in their paycheck for the tax bill that they might know coming right. But it. Yeah I if you received a big refund in the past I've heard from a lot of people that aid in May have gotten smaller refund this year or they might owe a little bit of money the IRS. Guy that does not mean that you paid more taxes by the way. Now if if you're correct in this the big thing is you might have had a lower overall tax burden in rent in one case with someone who I was talking to they make around 80000 between the two of them. And what they found is that their tax burden actually dropped by 2000. But there withholding dropped by 4000 so they ended up owing money whereas previously they would not have owed money. So I've seen lots of before you take to Twitter and FaceBook freaking out that hey your tax bill went way up just because you owe money to the iris this year or you got a smaller refund. Look take a look at what your withholding it where for 2017 vs twenty team what you total tax payment came to because. I have seen these posts all over the place. You know people that I know pretty close it out and tax bill went way yeah well no. No it didn't do you pay less taxes rather hear it all the ice and anti each paycheck was that better. Right that's all was but people are realizing. Right and now my question is. Given that this is happening is the ire ESCO and update the withholding tables for this year to get him more in line with where it used to be head and I got today you know we're talking about yeah one off cases it seems like here in there got a lot. Path we got to see what they actually don't don't tell us they don't it'll depend on how many people owe the iris money is a lot of them all the of the page it. The other big thing this primarily. Is affecting people who were still working. So if you know it's it's not something where it's affecting Social Security with holdings if you've been collecting Social Security. Even pulling money out of higher res it's not like the iris you started taking less money out indeed indeed changed it was polling there. This is really for W two wage if you were an employee at a company. That's who felt this burden so I've I've seen cases where you know if if people are retired and just living off social security and investment income. It really hasn't affected them in that case they can see OG my tax burden actually went down there went opera whereas. I've seen a lot of people who were you know either one or both spouses are working their sadness and why don't want and I always used to get it -- thousand dollar refund grosans get a 2000 dollar refund now have to pay 15100 so what were people supposed to do well because after testing that's been messing confused here so that's the problem is the theory would be. The way the iris in the year that you would imagine that they calculate the withholding would be. Okay we wanna leave people about the same shape as they were before only not necessarily make it's an old war get more money at the end of the year. Which instead of produce and has to offer him what to how to folks get to the US Virgin Islands there's two major airports like you've got. SS TX is the airport code for saying cry. An STT is the airport code for saint Thomas correct what are the big airlines that fly out of the northeast and and we a lot of listeners in west palm Florida as well as it does spirit goes from a. For a water correct spent most of Fort Lauderdale and Orlando all so they haven't so only two options I've been in South Florida. From the northeast we have actually put this area moves would be happy to know that jetBlue is coming back online the middle of the month from Boston to saint Thomas nonstop. You have one those sorts stop into San Juan Coca is not something to saint Thomas and on the way back up but Billy disturbance and one with a quick pick up the field and off the plane break. I use an American when I fly. I go Boston Miami Miami you've seen quarry and that's a real good connection yellow well the good the good thing for saint Croix are announcing Royce has a nice flight. Yes you get in so you leave appear any candidate that took a bite out of Miami. Somewhere around 6 PM eastern time and get inducing Roy Newton live up to nine. To the Virgin Islands midafternoon break in Delta's going down delta goes down for jetBlue united and leave base you know you got all the big airlines going into the I'll have a ma am and they connect from major spots across the United States are excellent and that helps our diversity. What legalize it and we speak to airlines about airlift into the territory right wanna make sure we cover. Most parts of the US wouldn't have won an auction rate if you have to have any. Yes yes I was talking to a friend who wanted to go to Nevis. And then they found out they needed a passport. To go to Nevis do you need this a passport to go to any of the three United States Virgin Islands. No and that's one of the best features we have to offer is that we are United States territory. No pass when necessary and how many amenities that you come down two islands. You cellphones for one that we all live and and right AT&T works out there AT&T what's on aspirin works then there. You know you ability to get to ATMs and you JT and cartoon catastrophe need credit cards everything. Did you do in Boston and New England area you can do and budget and you can rent a car regular credit card of a driver's license in. From Connecticut you can rent a car in the US virgin records and we have all the major rent a car. Agency Avis Budget hurts you name it so everything is pretty much what you would do if you were taken a vacation so when he US yeah. Let's just continue the US a look for the outside of the continent you're so divergent. I did that my family did a sailboat turn down their years ago is that still accessible only through saint Thomas can you go to saint Thomas and then jump on a bare boat captain. Rent a sailboat for a week. Yes actually the market is is is very much a major part of a product offerings right now you can jump it and and to a path base a couple days sale all you can open in two weeks ago right. And his heck of a vacation hack of the variation you hated the several of the US Virgin Islands and when they weren't and it's available in India. But relationship neighbors to the east and these British Virgin Islands him you know there are many islands over there. Just indictment in total. That if you do take away as Willie T still there Willie teams was that they got significant damage after the hurricanes but like most. Good strong businesses that back up there yet I think one of the things we always. Tell people in the Virgin Islands as the from the keeps more he's he's sucks that I operation that's gonna wack pack. The scuba dive today did you scuba diving and it is open run into an extremely well as well and you know. What we have some concerns after the storms was blows the runoff and how would impact. And I am pleased to report did not much damage was done as a result of the hurricanes on the the war's most of the damage was on above. I had some lobster winners down time in law who was run in Monte. China I think I don't know that was because of hurricanes or maybe. It it may have been because now lapels ops was run much much more than I remember and run out every week you got tons and discriminate the all the Virgin Islands all three of them are English speaking are willing to speak and now we do speak with a little pipeline accidents sometimes if you hear me talk to some people who knew you talk to catch an exit and the accident at a at a talk in English we are talking it was. But it has a little accident. Yes it does it does. Well I'm glad to hear things are are are going well and that gear up for business. And the like is said if you if you look at for hotel space or him a new flexible enough in new experience from the affords him many options yet so you go and ABB. You and but a small hotels to uniting all the things I noticed a lot of new little twenty room hotels that group really cute. Yet there they are very you know almost like a bed and breakfast bed and breakfasts field. And they they actually you know it almost part of the fabric now from the tunnels so if you if you that kind of a traveler that once experience culture. And when I have the opportunity creates a happy memories. While being a part of the local fabric we have a lot of these small 2015. Room. And that and even human happy outtakes and and I said we now runs with a lump those in place. Thought at 3 o'clock and it's not a violent some coveted and I is closer to three products and right. So that's started to go at people and of course have denied that it's open and I've been now it's a great place to vacation folks if you haven't been to the United States Virgin Islands. Take a look at the airport code for saint thomas' ST tee and forcing Korea test T acts in the and you can take a fairy. Over to saint John Kerry if you wanted to go over to be the guy he can do that as well. Great vacations and something that I can highly recommend and something you probably are thinking about given the weather. That we're experiencing here in New England today and it's not gonna get any better during the next week. STT STX in US BI dot com now as the website referred to learning more about violence in general. Joseph thanks for permanent. They demanded that you have an us northeast market less pomp come on down to Brazil as we leave it there would smile and a nice cocktail distorted it. I folks this is Mike Armstrong and I'm joined by estate planning attorney Todd lets you with your financial exchange quick tip of the day. Today we're talking about the differences between revote Kabul and your rebuild Kabul trusts have taught you what is the biggest difference between a re global verses and durable Coble trust. You know this is probably the most frequently asked question that that I'd get here richer people just wanna know that and there are really a lot of differences but what I'm gonna do is to tell you what we're talking about the differences between a Medicaid irrevocable trust as folks there's so many kinds of irrevocable trusts out there I want to be clear that this is those income only Medicaid. Irrevocable trusts that are designed to protect assets from the nursing home vs. A revote couple family type trust. The biggest difference between the two is that. Revoke Opel trust will never protect assets from the nursing a five years ten years doesn't matter how long your assets are and but with an irrevocable trust after the assets have been put in there for five years. Then they will be protected from the cost of long term care that's really the difference well it's fair to pay an attorney to draft time trust and its revote Kabul cannot just go and have them change into an revolt apple trust. So many people love to do that you could but no. You actually have to start over the language of the trust itself is key in making it protected from the nursing homes so you can't just make the word re vocal irrevocable and the odds are not so easy but that's the big difference lies control wise I think you're still. About the same. Excellent while the estate planning expert to Christian and don't have written a brand new guys don't answer the most common questions you have about the differences between revote Kabul and irrevocable trusts you can request is brand new guy by calling 8668485699. Denzel watch generally you Dioner re like. I love dumb action movies it is one of my ultimate weaknesses and so. We try to do different one every week it is strength actually and so this one I picked Crimson Tide because the composer and Crimson Tide is Hans Zimmer whose my favorite movie composer actually citing close. Yet that this is unlikely to really have any meaningful change at this point what happened to trusting of either even paying attention to some of the stories that have been coming out. With regards to quality technology in its use other countries recently well I mean Ukraine story obviously they arrested that what they considered to be Chinese spy network for walk away that's what I think this does do is it sets off but it does do a better ripple effect with other countries saying oh yeah we're now accepting that I. And in there have been. A number of countries recently there have also said they've made decisions not to use while way equipment by the way. Ian in their networks as well also the US is not acting. Don't pin now I almost called Dunkin' Donuts but it's note cannot go down is just dump him now which is something I wanted them to do for awhile. Duncan shares little bit of a trouble for them recently here. Their stock yesterday dipping from that 6869. Bucks share down 66 about a 4% dip. How calm they reported. Earnings overnight and this really surprise me quite different mystery it wasn't that hey you know our expenses were way out so what Duncan's doing right now is they're rolling out all these different expresso drinks to try and compete with Starbucks. And I expected that should be increased cost you utter train all the employees general out all the machines I expected that but what they found is that their revenue decreased in the quarter. Really at their sales saw a drop so the sales of 319. Point six million expectations were. 329 point six million. This is concern. If they had a big profit miss OK fine but they had a revenue and a sale business I don't know what's happened there. Trying to figure when we're when we look at competitors are any of them seeing anything similar. The units are we saw something the same there and the promise he can't really compare earnings first Starbucks to Duncan because starts at such a Chinese exposure that is completely different is different price points if you look at you know Duncan to one McDonald's obviously it's you know. Call these portable McDonald's does does not in the main part of what they do so. Yet if it's really challenge to figure out what's going on with Duncan here. But just not. Not great to see that it's it's something that is unexpected again profit miss I'd be fine with this is sales this is concerning the other piece that I don't love. Starbucks in the previous quarter saw 13% of their orders coming from their token Duncan 3%. Again and ways to go to catch up here yet that they they certainly do a meet and I didn't realize it was that low ball the percentages though Duncan mobile orders 33%. Starbucks thirteen while and you know what they say about the global supporters that people order more and more expensive items among Latin do story person. We is so easy to navigate dealing. One of those and into one of those I used I'd used do that old time back and I still it wants with the other chick filet happen has it been like yeah let's get some chicken sandwich and surprised let's toss in some nuggets to wind not is that there'll happy Gideon everything the other part of it too is you're not under pressure. Suits standing in line staring at the menu I think if she game. The shame which I don't blame him like hockey yet that you just supersize me. Yeah why the hell out by the way getting some breaking news coming through right now from CNBC Amazon reportedly reconsidering its New York headquarters site but a lot of local opposition according to the Washington Post the Washington Post by the way owned by Jeff Bezos who you would think that kind of in the know it was on and on. Yeah you you would imagine they have a good bead on what's going on interest. Ass and so the question then becomes do they split with the different city artist coordinate Disco ball and a DCC two we know lieutenant second. Technical leader was that stole mr. I don't think they do about a silver medal while sector. You mean second between DC and new Yorker after those like tied for third you mean. Yet happened there than. And so and don't know your I mean New York as a hat deal. Now Aaliyah there's really bad I'm really curious to see what ends up happening with this. Because just DC and get here here's a question you'd that in -- these things you can do this could be something if here's what I'll put a prediction on the board for you seem Boston know they're gonna stay in New York. OK but they're not going to accept the tax breaks. Oh I'm nine and put them all of you heard it here are. You you heard that news stay in new York and they're not going to accept a tax rates yet. You heard it here for because that was the big outcry. Was that it is all this money that was that New York was giving too wise to Amazon so I'm. Put on the board and just say hey in in a world where populism dominates. The way to win in that world as a stay under the radar on the way to stay under the raiders by not taking the public money. And so. That's where I'm going to bowl prediction there that's that's where I'm gonna go with it let's take a break when we come back Paula Monica from CNN business is gonna join us. He would talk about snap when they're here to stick around or. Maybe they'll just disappear. Quick break right back with Paul after this break.
