The stock market is rallying with the Dow Jones Industrial Average up more than 270. Points. That the primary motivation behind investor confidence has to do with trade act that we might yet tree deal done with China. What are the outstanding issues you'll hear conversations regarding intellectual property or. American corporations wanting to own more than 49%. Of the companies they're investing in China you'll hear issues as it relates to fraud and fake goods that are being sold by the Chinese. You'll also hear in tree information as it relates to American access to Chinese markets. When it's really gonna come out to folks lose trust in weather today. Two countries can trust each other hi everybody it's Berry and chuck with you here it's Tuesday morning in. It's Berrian Mike I think most. Of the there were at the memos on this stuff. Terry and Mike with you here in sunny Tuesday morning end. Out of it a lot. Information coming across the wires but it does look like they're moving towards a deal. And I am in it looks like everything that I've read has said that you know this this initial meeting will really just be laying the framework for another one back in the states probably in the next few weeks. But it is in its 11 PM Beijing time so we should be getting some news these negotiations percent to 11 PM on Tuesday night so. Effectively. These these discussions were due to wrap up on Tuesday should be coming about two and and and I think big question will we see a joint statements coming. Yeah I mean let's walk through the issues. Vis the Americans want. China to purchase more US so we're talking about primarily agricultural products yeah mainly agricultural products. And then it team that is a big issue but to me quite frankly the big issue is access to markets and and having some sort of framework in place. To allow the US to monitor whether action is this what I mean China is famous for making promises. A yet we will open up the financial sector to outside investment we'll open up. Any of these different areas. And then ten years later nothing has changed says that that's I think going to be like you said trust is the big issue here so is there any means by which weekend. States and other government can follow up on this and see happening changed actually been made with Chinese Government. The other one and issues it does get out please subsidies. And China is also been known to subsidize industries aluminum business. Steel business and dump those products and government subsidies on the world markets you're right that was going to be a lot tougher beaches so do a whole lot of other governments. Not to the extent to which China is does but you look at a lot of European markets they do the same thing with there vehicles at the US. Government did so with their own auto industry right back in no way we. Effectively bought forward in GM and you know subsidize them pretty substantially so that's going to be a tougher argument I think but. I I think the big one is being allowed access into Chinese markets and having some sort of device by which week in measure and control if you know company continues steal trade secrets. Michael you mentioned that you know can we trust the Chinese and they have a history you violating these agreements if you read the papers in China. China has the same attitude ports in states pressure. After airing. But you know that's also. Keep in mind that we have state controlled media. There's vary in the United States it's a little bit different insofar as we have several different media outlets. Guy and they're independent of any government or nation the Chinese media day is an arm of the Chinese Government. So you know I take everything that I read there with a grain of salt but it does impact opinion it doesn't act public opinion and that's the important thing. Good news late yesterday. Is that accurate and continue to be processed throughout the governments which shows no sign. Ups it does not we are when a couple weeks away from the longest one ever at this point. I don't know how they're going to do this but they've committed to doing right now eight out of nine iris workers aren't showing up to work right now so I don't know who's going to process all of these returns. But apparently they're going to get done which. Means it's something we've been talking about for a good week is what happens he's just don't get process that would have been. That would yield real game here. State in terms of grief but. Today so yeah if you don't get refunds. If it. If you got you're owed money you'd be founded on January 15 or anybody else. Sometimes they re on Tuesday. Yeah records Wendell Wendell architecture. Seems like it's the middle February before. Vary the vast majority of people are not filing in they'd have 109 nines for dividends and interest coming in their 401K. W two from work and that's all they need to file their. Their tax return it takes it's not that difficult for the vast majority of people that have. The job from one employer and largest and return him get that in. Late January and they expect to return two weeks later. You know it's curious is this will be the first year that people filing under the new tax code and be yours to Z. You know be the low to lower weaker. Reference. They're supposed to be innings but he reached its tires so that that's where I'm concerned yours I think there's this league. Expectation. That people are going to be getting a refund based on the new tax Bill Stewart told will. We are told there are gonna pay less taxes reinstated is gonna come all the big refund because you know the IRS. Change their guidelines for tactical so the truth is that most people have been getting a tiny little amount more in each of their paychecks. And most people haven't really noticed quite frankly in my concern people are gonna go file taxes and expect you know I'd 50% increase in their return. I can see. Everything that I've read it said that they're not going to see huge increase in terms of return that people. Hold items are getting smarter increase your like it or not. Talking about things here Alexa I've got X. Now retirement really creepy stuff like. Toilet talked. That area it yes ouch. Talk about. Colors for and got us together a 7000 dollar toilet. That is going to player currently playing music and news in that hosts Atlanta I have no idea. A lot of these things. I've read through this and there's a whole list available things there should be debuted. A fishing rod attraction location to build an online map of where it must catches. That actually see people agent. Accused the capsule if fisherman. Six doctors use these there Scopes toothbrush that recommends where to brush more. The only one that I actually thought of where I've run into an instance of this would be convenient is afraid that comes let's check in the content where. To milk and eggs. Two point 05%. EPY. On that account how do you do. Yet it's one of our most popular. Retail banking products vary so. It's it checking and savings companion product Oka and if you qualify. You get some great reward so for example you're 2.0 5%. EP wise you're savings account up 200000 dollars 100000. You get 1% cash back and all of beard he's suspending your debit card that's good. Eight get ATM reimbursements if you use in other things he Tia. And so do qualify I'm traveling in a Matta town there's not a leader bank branch nearby. I can use that ATM card number and be reimbursed the three dollars to order exactly. That in so the benefit of that is that really expands or breach network yeah he's in need yen. Shares of GE were six point 2% yesterday closing at 870. Four that is where the stock trades today. Why the rally in GE shares Michael. Out there weighing a sale of their jet leasing business this was created really to support edgy as one of the biggest jet engine. And they're one based jet engine that it produces out there. And they'd. Basically built this business to lease out these jets to that potential buyers as a way of him making themselves really beat preeminent. I jet engine manufacturer and hey it's a valuable business. I think it's really as. Yeah a part of the gold dismantling. G financial. Part of their objective there is really getting rid of this leasing business which could be valued up to forty billion dollar. So. Now I mean a heck I hear that Betty what with strikes me about GE is. We still haven't heard anything about what they're going to me that people want to buy our regularly that there's no. He what you're talking about Michael I think in court if I'm wrong but it sounds like financial engineering as opposed to innovation market development sales involvement in it there's nothing new here then okay we're gonna sell this to -- the soft via that analogy you're absolutely right there upon looking at the management. If I'm call parade you kind of need to clean everything up before you can even think about pour new money it's our Indy right if you are literally on the brink of a failure. Then you have to you have to clean up everything else and and focus on hey what do we do to really build this business going forward. But I genuinely think that this company is so close to. You really having today is it to completely restructure itself that they're doing everything they can't just stay afloat for now and then work on OK these are our core businesses and this is going to grow them go forward. Say it again begs the question why in God's name does GE owning jet leasing business to begin. Well the immediate. They'd make judgment it's right so they're cut not the middle right and use in the bankers they're given the banking themselves yup that again and again it's. And that's that turned out to be a big big fail yeah man I NG capital once accounted for. Over half heard nearly half. Half of the app parent company's profits but and the day you can't be a giant industrial company and bank and at one point they were the eighth largest bank in the country. And well if today it didn't work out well that or make it stupid phones to their work they were they were financing turbines to Ukraine government which is bankrupt so they keep you look at what they beat it. Just look at the actual transactions. Data entry into there were financially irresponsible. Speaking of financially in irresponsible. Shares of PG&E. Corporation this is utility's stock. And it is down to be an additional eleven point 8% on top of losses that occurred yesterday. This of course the big utility company out on the West Coast again and it is now. Pretty much hitting its 52 week low. This is a company that looks like they're going to be facing bankruptcy at the very least they're going to be selling off a lot of different units and you know when you look at something like this PGA neat. But for the wild fires. Pretty stable. You know. Medium profit utility company pretty safe investment but that. We always talk to be able about him. Buying individual stocks and you know Leo. The risks there and you know there's the risk is that this was a regulated utility company that's likely going to be facing bankruptcy. Well that's the question. If they allow that to happen right if the state doesn't bail them out. And they go bankrupt. What why would anybody buy one of these stocks again. Why oh why would I as an investor by utility stock going forward because the you'd do a thing to remember it's a regulated utility. And I look at that and I say to myself well the reason this company's going bankrupt. What is the regulator meaning the state politicians. Did not allow PG need to raise rates enough in order to clean up the infrastructure and can keep the utility working properly like if you look at the reports of the fires and everything that happened Michael B they didn't have enough staff. And they they were given the resources to prevent this type thing from happening. Damn bad again I'm with him I don't know what's going to happen here if they're going to have to face bankruptcy and then another utility companies I mean there's presumably assets that are valuable here right. There's there's plants theirs infrastructure here that someone would like to own. I have no idea what a bankruptcy of a publicly regulated utilities going to look like as somebody still needs provide electricity to all California. Well that in the you know at this this is the flaw in the system are regulated utilities. If you read a quarterly report folks for utility company regulated utility company. Used National Grid as an example because a lot of or audience says National Grid is their energy provider. National Grid will go to the state regulator which they're selling electricity and no say or natural gas. In the know say hey we need to raise rates buys fourteen cents or ten cents or five cents. And invariably the politicians get involved in the case of Massachusetts it's more Healy. And more he'll say all familiar you're trying to raise rates too much end the date dole give the utility companies weather's National Grid door. Do Kennard the repeat Jeannie. They don't give them enough budget in order to maintain the grit that's why we lose electricity McKee people get frustrated by electricity outages. I can tell you the reason you lose electricity is the grid in which we does not being properly maintained. You look at the the the natural gas infrastructure that we have struggling it's antiquated view leaks all over the place and and lord knows what that's doing well. But that that's where the problem lies goes these these utility companies. They're the ones that caused the problem. And then if they allow this thing to go bankrupt why would favor by another utility stock while it neighbor buyer regulated utility stock again or upon. So I mean at the question is what's the answer there at these all become just state run. Departments of the of the states and have these in the big government run the utility companies know they love that option but the only other option Aniston. Break them up because most of them have monopolies into their markets. Right I mean what you have one off you have one option for certain pretty much if you live in most towns and New England I think you have pretty much an option for getting your energy and I am I wrong about that. No pity if the same time with what I find frustrating is as I remember when we've had outages in the past. It and and you kind of dig into the topic in indices up look at why. Why do I go five days electricity why why was my electricity out 36 hours. And invariably is because the DM grid isn't being maintained yet they can't make history at their countries they can't you know the tenderness of Arab with gadgets. I don't know it seems to me like those into solutions I love you daddy make him part arms of the government or you break them all up. I EU or you charge more for electricity in and nobody's it'll like that answer my my option is. You know charge me 10% 15% more pro by electricity that you know make it sort of developed by generator because that was the that's of people it and doing. Rightly anybody who had money. Went out and bought it generators so that when there's power outage they didn't have to suffer through let's not write it charred charge assault 5% 10% war. And maintain the damn grit and music it's like your car if you don't change your oil in your car it's gonna you you're gonna promise you'll paint your house you know meeting housed and have a problem. We don't maintain our electrical or leave it we just don't. And you know we you can talk conversations about putting the secret underground that forbidding expenses. My point news. You know the the politicians get involved in neat for the last fifty years all they have done on this issue. Is kick the can hand down the road we should be paying more for electricity if we paid more for electricity. We would have agreed that actually works. When we come back we'll take a look at the market is still up. But not as much as when we began the show will also talk about the impact. A falling mortgage rates what does that mean for the spring housing market all that in more coming up. On the financial exchange. Like this on FaceBook and followers on Twitter. Without you know 44 and half as pretty tenable and that's the average Syrian people are getting mortgage rates down and that low for range right now which is is. Quite attractive. Why did decline in more interest that's of people one well I dated people bought treasuries when the stock market fell parts interest rates have come down pretty substantially from where there were her. This summer and you're going into the flawless the stock market fell apart people fled to safety they bought. Bonds which drove interest rates down generally speaking across the board. Which brings down which brings down mortgage rates so. It's been obviously. Tough for the stock market of the last three months really but this is one small shining point for people looking for a home. Out of their home the real estate market a little bit more attractive though officers in a pretty significant slowdown while the country the last few months. Well existing home sales were up one point 9% in November. Compared to a month earlier. Microsoft is helping America's largest grocery chain fight off Amazon will they could use a yeah they DA and I think this you know I think this is uninteresting wave that we might be seeing of retailers. Not. Trying to do better trying not to do business names and dad is a Smart move by program their base and moving all their cloud stuff over to Microsoft. They obviously opened up to new kind of futuristic stores which I don't know if there's anything about these that are really going to revolutionize the way that we grocery shop their. Basically have. No one is there yet and Amazon and even games on I think only has like three stores that are not full grocery stores and nobody is there yet Kroger is saying they want to get there and there idea on this is that they're gonna put. Basically cameras in the shopping cart. Yeah Tbilisi OK you put this item in April the side in there and it just charge your phone and you walk out but I think we're probably two or three years away from that begins. There's so much of the stuff we have these days we way and yeah so we're study by the Earth's history in right to have some weights. Both Kroger and Wal-Mart though moving away from him using Amazon cloud storage to Microsoft that's probably. But like Microsoft's doing so well financially and if you are a retailer of any sir I don't care if your gas station quickie mart if you are some sort of retailer I would be so hesitant about using Amazon's cloud. Why he'd just seen it over and over that they all they steal the data they learn how your business works in this era. But to do this could do is better than you and that I can't. They probably can't. It's our daily poll question had financial exchange showed Doug John. Vote your conscience. There are just vote go to financial exchange oh god come and test away. We're joined now by Steven John Kaplan from seeking no place in talking to us about the and that sector's benefactors India's small cap ETF. Stephen thanks for coming on India obviously has experienced tremendous GDP growth and that I averaged seven or 8% of the last decade. Percent get a little bit nervous about buying like single country emerging markets indices the what are you see you know happening in India right now that makes it's attractive connect. Well India I think is a really good choice because when the US is dropping a little bit last year and everybody got so excited. The India's stock market for the medium and small companies dropped by about half. So this particular one which was 72 and a half dollars and all the way down to 36 and a half dollars back in October. And that's a very exaggerated trend because there really hasn't been any big change in India so. Whatever the true price might be I'm sure it's much higher than where it is now and what happens of course than anything is when the price starts to go down very quickly. A lot of people to sell because they're in a panic rather than because there's anything negative happening with the economy picture and we can also see a parallel we go back to 2013. It was a year before Modi the current prime minister was elected everybody was worried what's gonna happen politically. And sure enough this year in April and may there's going to be elections again. And so in India there's a long history of people getting worried about the elections and once the elections actually passed. Then everybody's excited so the last time this particular fond actually went up over 140%. I don't know that necessarily gonna go up that much. But I think it's at least going to grow at least recover about half of its roster last year and perhaps more than that once the elections are over. You know I look at emerging markets obviously China has a lot of risk when it comes to trade what do what do you consider the major risks to the Indian stock market at this point do like that it's obviously a lot. Freer market open market for. International companies to invest. Well there's always so I worry about that currency exchange for example Jillian repeat and gunned down to an all time low last year but it's been recovering very nicely because again a lot of that was psychological. And in that part of the world in general if you look at the neighbors and you look at you mentioned China I think there is also a lot of irrational fear of the Chinese stock market while weapon down by half. Was down by about 40% that's still quite low and so. I think that's another very good opportunity because the first word that most people think of when you mentioned China due to slowdown or Harrison neither of those are really. Very accurate and certainly wouldn't justify a 40% drop so. I think that we have a number of other countries like China and Vietnam that are very compelling as well as India but I think the best thing about India is that. It has has long history of having big drops in the big recoveries and so. Exactly why that is maybe there's more emotional investors. Or maybe when things start to get bad some technical charts tell you to get out or get back into the wrong time but. I think that's going to be one of the best picks for the next several months. Do you think that is a passively managed funded no boots on the ground do you think that's the best way to go when investing in international small caps are their more actively managed funds out there that my PO it's in a we've seen. Pass a manage indices were really outperformed the active funds here domestically but is there still an argument for active management and emerging markets small caps. Actually that they act of magic can be very useful it seems so very well matter unfortunately there's no current actively managed funds of too many. Emerging markets that are listed in the US most of them are only privately available through hedge funds and those kinds of vehicles. Otherwise I would definitely consider that one thing I do like about this font it's almost. A Smart beta fund in the sense that the very biggest position which is. A movie distributor very similar to AMs in this country club PBR and you know on the popular even Bollywood is here. So that particular company only makes up 2.0 7% in the whole responsibility don't have too much concentrated in the few. Companies which unfortunately a lot of exchange traded funds directly to their detriment so effective to so widely spread out over 206 different companies I think. Is a much better factor generally and produces better return through time. There and some well Stephen John Kaplan from seeking alpha I appreciate you joining us the ticker symbol is SCI. After it's the small cap India index fund they very much for dryness and during my approach. Stocks as pulled back a little animal going to be major indexes and Dow still up 54 points Madea's the and the NASDAQ is down 23 points we are hearing. It's years is gonna liquidate Sears and Kmart could be no more and nightmare. Well it it if it's almost like this game of chicken. But he appears right now that the years close all their stores all around the world. Talk about a missed matter that that was a company that had. If they had their catalog they had iridium is on they had the way to deliver products to people's homes. And they just in modern dance they deliver homes to people's yes. You could buy a house that's yours if you did I kid you not say there's one in my neighborhood the house was bought vice yet seers and still there. Yeah and actually looks pretty. Dow's up sixteen points the S&P as I mentioned is flat. And crude oil's trading. 4911 we're gonna conversation regarding oil and with the saudis are doing to try to increase the price of oil in the next hour. I think it first makes sense Mike to look back a bit at 2018 and talk about some of the big themes that we saw. That move markets create a couple big dips to 10% dips over the course of the year. What caused the more key fact pensive. And it just have the ability to add more volatility into both the bond and stock market and it definitely saw that 2008. Mike what are the big things this had an impact a particular in the second half of the years the trade conflict between the US and China how do you see that continuing. To affect markets as we move deeper in the 2019. Yeah I mean huge huge issue for a second half eighteen really added a lot of volatility in markets then and certainly it's going to spill over 2009 team. When we look ahead here my personal views on it is I think that we probably get something done on the US China trade deal. Before the end of the year present don't think the president trump wants to head into a re election season with eight giant economic headwind. It's all gonna come down to trust cyber buddy it's buried like with you here it's a Tuesday morning and the market started off. Going gangbusters. Rate now they're still up the Dow's up a 141 points they're seized on them. They're all over the place there up their down for a minutes the another volatile day today in the markets. You have to have a strong stomach in order to be invested in this market you know a lot of people here your right after Christmas. And before Christmas people were nervous and you had big selloffs occurring and then. After Christmas yet nice little Santa Claus rally at. You know it just a lot to I don't think people realize. Just how. Sensitive. The markets are to the trade issues and a lot people are attributing it to the Fed. I really question as to how. Much it was of attributable to the Federal Reserve right I think this really has to do with trade. And if we get into a full blown trade war. With China. That's bad for American investors might be good for the country long term but it is bad for those of you who'll stocks it will keep it on that story. Along with others hot this week. But go ahead how much how much you think China really needs to offer here to allow the United States to save save save face here and Sam can't walk away with a win. Dave they don't allow say if if they don't allow while. I don't know for investment their financial systems that going to be a need. Too bad news these trade deals ago and then what do what do you think is the key item that presidential pass to walk away you're deals. Well are there DA they might not be single item and and the I I don't think there is a single item like I do think. The president showed weakness win he gave them another ninety days I think that is a mistake. And I think he's gonna regret that when he writes memoirs. He is because when he did that he blinked and that demonstrated to president G. That's been their whole strategy is delayed delayed away and not just in his presidency in the last twenty years that's been narrow stretch oval will do this five years from now. We'll do just a decade from now do this three months from now and never. Now and and unfortunately. In order for the president to demonstrate. That he's serious. He's gonna have to cause a recession. And and that's a very difficult position to the end and meaty. We did that is effectively worked. He has to fall on the sword. And inflict pain on his own citizens in order to do the right thing in the long term. And and I do think he's tried to do the right thing in the long term it's just going to be a lot of short term pain. And I I suspect idea Leo look nobody knows and nobody at a read his mail and and I haven't talked a couple of awhile. I think he made a mistake when he gave that ninety day expert extension but all the time to the only time will tell. Wanted to talk about TV ratings specifically as it relates to NFL football. You know eat dirt at the beginning of the year they were out. It seems like the protests have. Largely gone away. Besides I don't recall seeing much in the way of player protests this season boy channels it's and they didn't they say that he kissed me. On the field to donuts coming out the National Anthem correct TI he can do so in the locker room pretty much right here I mean it's not really being televised approach as I'm sure they're still having some agreement the NFL I think is done. Everything non story out in their power to make an odd story this season. It would win if the ratings been pretty solid. Yeah I mean that they're deftly up this year overall I I cannot overall NFL ratings are up 5% over last year. They've averaged nine point one household rating which means on average 9% of the total US households are turning into games and men that this past wild card weekend which is the first round in the NFL playoffs. A spiked 12%. Compared to last year and and also. I think was the Philly Chicago game recorded like one of the highest reading since 1994. While car around so public that's so. Ratings have been really good this year yet the mystery game that ice I don't know this include the wild card but the pats Steelers game. Than drew sixteen nationwide which has just breeder gotten. But I trying to figure out as a says as look at it this news reports that patriots in picture country's 35%. Of the televisions in the market were tuned indeed gains. I'm trying to figure openness. Back. Will they watch it yeah I always wonder that like you we see that with the Super Bowl in the whenever those ratings come outages like. A day 80% of people watch a low bullet over 20% of people knowing them out and Toy Story which I I don't know if they were doing. I I really don't date me I guess that's just be reflective of the people we socialize. Differently because there. Anybody retire you know it's Super Bowl parties which it's not a matter of witty here. Watching the suitable to matter where you're watching people watch it for the commercials but even at that you're still talking. Less than half the people watching. And people who saved for retirement are being punished by race Social Security taxes. Who isn't that true statement. Yeah I mean people get frustrated about this right you know they they view this or security tape and their paycheck is you know kind of tax to begin with and then when they start receive their benefits they're taxed on it again. He so yeah people aren't crazy about this what this articles talking about specifically though is when. If you source carry wasn't always to actually started being taxable in 1983. And they thanks Ronald Reagan's and they he have. They started you know it deciding how much of it would be taxable what they didn't do is they didn't indexing it to inflation. So effectively if you're a single person with combined income over 25000 dollars a year or coupled with over 32. Then you face taxes on up to 50% of yours or security and if you make over 34 or couple making 44 that's 85%. Of those numbers haven't changed once since 1993. Yeah so I mean 825000. Dollars a year in income back in 1993 is 8380. Tree. Yes our Bakken yeah back in 1983. You know that's probably what sixty some odd thousand dollars these guys. Now. It's it's effectively be in a no way for the government to raise taxes that action raising taxes and building that inflation right. One thing we should all anticipate is that those taxes we pay you know if you take a look at your paycheck you'll see one line that says Social Security or flight yeah. And they don't have another line that says Medicare tax. I would advise you folks to anticipate that those rates will increase at some point during the next five to seniors. I mean you know I've been saying that for fiber to seniors but it beat the I I think. The end solution will involve. An increase in the tax rate for Medicare and an increase in the tax rate for Social Security and maybe they push out the retirement age again it's already 67. I mean 67 is all the to you know for retirement. So I I don't know how much. Players and half with pushing to retire if push out the early retirement date seats at Kate can't collect 62 anymore you can collect 64. And touch that while. They can also area what is it the first 130000. Dollars or your income is taxes or securities they could just eliminate that that would that would fund a lot more. We're joined now by clay recent New York Times in the the title of the article last week was led by cult fervent distillers dreamed of and amp. Notification of Kentucky and you know clay I have is that Christmas this year and it seems like the last couple of years. The Bergen market at least in my family has been blowing up I think that was like the most giving gift this year for Christmas was a bottle of local Bergman from Gayle whenever distillers daylight. What are we seeing today in today in the urban cores. Yeah you know when I search covering this probably six or seven years ago I cracked is really taking off and and you saw the big guys starting to get and answered these. Key to growth there in it and upped their game but everyone expected it was sort of you know you get baton it would. New move on to it would certainly something else after awhile but. What I think is really happened of the last three to five years has been. Egypt and implication all those trends so. The craft guys some of the two really good ones are producing just stellar whiskey and things that people are willing to pay top dollar sports. And the same time that the big brand as I have really succeeded in stepping up their games so. You know a category that used to be turn topping out at fifty bucks a bottle. Most the time now you know that's barely scratching the surface to play at a luxury bottle costs. Sure and I think about the beer market today that's certainly had legs for awhile now the craft beer market and just growing and growing for a feel like a decade two decades now. But that's pretty nationwide it doesn't seem like it's overly concentrated in any one stage how much of the burba is really coming from Kentucky this. Well by and large units still about 95%. Volume comes out of Kentucky they have. You know for every prayer every kind of handful of small craft distillery around you at ease. Enormous. Facilities in Kentucky that are just pumping out whiskey and good whiskey punished there really. They really know how to do it the difference between. Kraft heard between the beer industry in the whisky industry where you know say what you will about the big guys and dear but they weren't producing. Not only the best stuff bright they were producing for certain certain demographic certain type type of appear. And day now with with whiskey U was. You from the beginning. Did the big guys were setting the tone so you know and that's what they're really banking on now is that when you go to replace flake. I'd team beamer heaven hell or or four roses is these are great distillery but they're also big distillers. I think about united Napa for instance and the experience that's been built around. You know wine tasting at California and you just all the industries that popped up around that. Is is that what you think you need in Kentucky to really have the staying power that you know the US wine industry has seen. Yeah I will tell you what if I had if I had any business sense if I had. A little bit of scratch I would quit my job I would move to Kentucky and open. At a resort hotel because that is. That's what's needed to know that the industry is there. The key note that the horse race news there at the beautiful countryside is there. You've got some big cities and global Lexington to appease. Facilities are small towns. And and that's what it I think people when they look at it. This part of Kentucky that equipment would now apple like in your near San Francisco and Oakland but you know Europe in the top of the bay. And what was really needed was you know good restaurants. Good. The other things to do whether it's golf four or kind of let our resort circling the you know someplace where if you go to friends and they don't wanna be whiskey they can do something else you'll know that infrastructure. That's still. He's tourist coming around and and so there's a lot of talk about luxury hotels about luxury resort about luxury restaurants. And and I think over the next five years that's what you're ST. You were financial show saga mass tampering on the spot so I don't know if you would note are any of these big burger makers pub which rated. Yeah yes some Oakmont I mean Jim beam is certainly probably traded. Do outside DR geo who owned a good number of interest in the area there and walker yeah yeah yet they don't Johnnie Walker they also they make bullet hole it is one of the big. Big urban and and ride brands out there and that the charges behind that. But you're right I mean a number of them are also. Are privately held and it just kind of you know mix and match. A lot clearest and really inch article out of New York Times I'm I'm definitely seeing it and clearly I'm not the only ones in this explosion in the burn industry. What's your clearest and the New York Times appreciate joining us. I would play a lot of trivia the late great David Bowe would have turned 72 years old today will be asking trivia questions about David Bull easily. Plea trivia folks. If you text the correct answer to the question of about askew. And he texted to me at 63566. Now if you're new to the show or if you haven't taxed the show before. My first name at the beginning of your text my first name is Mary BA RY. And 63566. And then. The answer to that question witches. What early David Boeing's single was used by the BBC network in its coverage of the moon landing. Again text number 63566. Will be playing for the prize is a fifty dollar gasoline cart which police will mail the winner. I don't know who's gonna win but somebody. What early David Bowe weak single was used by the BBC network in its coverage. Of the moon landing in the text number here is 63566. Carlos gold defiantly appeared in public yesterday. Looking a little haggard after spending with the last month or two in jail Los. Wait yeah you know today I mean this is the first time we have heard or seen anything out of hand. Again I still have no idea what to do is that we are missing here news the claims are that he didn't disclose is in common that he also. And you know you may have. Transfer this very complex investment Overton he's on to kind of cover some of his own investment losses. But if they're still seems like a lot the prosecution just has not laid out yet for us to understand. And a and a shocking in the Japanese day in this. Legal system they can really hold him for as long as they want to tampering charges. And that's what makes them that they be you know the unity like when I got wind of this. I said I smelled a rat what I think the Japanese don't like is that Carlos worked for the French company Renault which owns I think 4347%. Of Nissan. And as soon as I saw this story break in November I said to myself this news is this is piracy. Japan is doing and their legal system it's not a legal system the the the guy. The guy can't cease family. At all he is no contact without the outside world. And he does not allowed legal representation. This is the type of behavior that I expect more out of Russia and China and I don't really you don't see stories like this Japan. You don't see them because it it doesn't happen that often. And if it does happen it doesn't happen to an American citizen like our Kelly. Was Carlos Gomes right hand he also was in jail the other and they let him out of jealousy is dying. Literally done he eighty's so they said while we don't get in trouble with the Americans so that eleven out. I iced. Maybe Carlos code is as guilty as sin I don't know what I can tell you is that Japan is doing. A lot of reputation old champ damage. To their own country like if you're an American executive why would you go to work verdict Japanese company by radio and is non American says he's Brazilian born out against the French and Lebanese and right shipment that Graham. Yet he's not Japanese and unity the night my point is. Why would anybody like if if I was offered a job in Japan it's in no thanks your legal system Sox Delhi India. See if I don't show up for work on time you would you do throw me in jail permanently I mean it's just that. That's it and and that's what makes them look bad in this particular instance I I just. They I I still think we'd have to be missing something here in the house to be more evidence does. You're right this makes the Japanese government look very very bad and I can't imagine they would go through all that just to save knees on space. I can Iran. Apple has become more and loved by Wall Street analysts that at any time in the last fourteen years these issues we get it wrong. Piazza's say that is that a aid. Indication of buy signal it's a that's a Boxee box that I should mention I own shares of apple and I did not sell well despite there price declines so. The number of high ratings as low as the way to measure is the lowest number of high ratings on Apple's since 2005. At 49%. In other 51% of those are cold so really very few. Few few buy ratings. Going on when apple right now and he you know I get it they've apes. Eight it changed their report which a lot of analysts don't like they stopped giving you volume sales on their iphones which a lot of analysts are pretty frustrated about. And then you're just seeing declines a lot of that coming from emerging markets China. Yeah let me be the date they make virtually all the profits that there are to be meeting that industry. It. Out to folks. And they're priced earnings ratio just looking now they're PE ratios twelve to one. And they're earnings per share eleven dollars and nine cents. Of which they pay out two dollars and 92 sets the talk the company about company with Martin's. Apple company. Very high margin company. And people tend to not leave their ecosystem. Is a very. The it's very loyal fan base your wife and my daughter law. Will I I I doubt very much that she would be willing to give up right now with the age of retirement this the other day do you think. Apple. Obviously apple sitting on about as much cash as publicly traded corporation. Eyes sitting on today. Did they look at that position. It could they make days so there are few that were mentioned here today an article like. It is in big companies Disney sales force and Tesla world mentioned as potential acquisition targets to shake things up over apple. It never done anything like that. I think Tesla makes the most sense the the idea the the apple buyer. In the apple customer. Is very similar to the tussle customer in I would wager. That the vast majority of Tesla customers are apple users problems reduced mosque. Sitting at that at. Apple would benefit tremendously. From its mosque I agree but I don't think you would static. All I I don't know if you gave him enough. It the there's nowhere else in the world he go to work Tucker worry more resources definite and he just seems like a guy always wants to build his own company from the ground up. And now it does have to has an idea plan. He he has difficulty playing with others in a way I I agree. But haven't had that kind of personality apple. Since Steve Jobs Steve Jobs and they were very similar if you look at Elon mosques behavior just personal behavior. And compared to Steve Jobs. Tremendous liberties especially those views that he Steve Jobs. I picked the calendar has turned again and noticed that the New Year's here after the leave the stock market ended twenty team. Lot of people don't wanna look back I know pro lost few bucks last year but in addition to reviewing what was it's also time to look ahead. More Americans think it's a bad time to buy a hole I couldn't disagree more I think. It's a good time to buy home but glue wait what's the story behind the story here Michael. The they measure this in terms of you know it's sentiment so how many people think that now has a good time how many people think that prices are likely to ago while I mean you'll think mortgage rates are lightly to drop. And you know the people that think that. Prices are going out fell two percentage points. The sentiments towards the real estate market seems to really be showing I think this is mainly your reflection of price. I think a lot of people are getting very very intimidated by the price of homes these days. And I think it's. I may disagree but I would be pretty hesitant. You know buying power you know going into a bigger home. One way that we would make you think it's going to get. Cheaper two years from. Well one I don't see interest rates moving a whole lot more than where they are right now so I get a Becker in that that's a reason to buy now. Freight rates low variable rates are low but I think you'll still be low a few years from and my concern would be. Hey what if we do you head into recession what does that do the real estate market to three years now. It's been how the hell has it been since we've had a recessions in ten years now. Those. They're not recessions aren't always terrible for the real estate market usually not good for the real estate market. The that's the thing. That makes me bullish on housing. Is when you look at the homeownership rate Michael among colonials. It is pathetic well here you millennium goals are just not buying houses. And and lest you there's in this generational shift where you're at higher generation has never gonna own hole. That's gonna change and there's going to be this rush to the market with millennium goals saying gee. Where thirty years old I guess it's time to buy a house or 33 year Italy this time by house. Previous generations have done everything earlier had babies earlier they've gotten married earlier your generation is somewhat slow. They are. The counter argument to that is I don't see the amount of debt that my generation is Kerry right now declining times. The amount of student loan debt that's out there among people under the age of forty is astounding it doesn't seem to be dropping significantly. I don't know where these people are gonna be able to afford this we did at this story the other day I think where. The percentage of people that were getting FHA loans which account for 10% of total loans made here and you can put down as little as three and a half percent. A quarter of them were getting financial assistance of the down payment. That's three and a half percent down payment. If I'm not sure that's changed. May have been my dad helped me by house. You know that that's been going on for a hundred years fan evidence dice but FHA loans have been on Friday hasn't been forever that your only had to put down three and a half percent on purchase and. I don't know back in the 1980s. It and I'll give you the year nineteen ED five. I've bought a col off nobody. Now on New York on not a nickel. So it it's it's been around longer than you think I I just think you'll get that trend line among colonials. I mean eventually you'll figure out the student well they might mean you have to work two or three jobs the colonials will figure out the student Oprah might acknowledge it it's a challenge. But that don't a lot of millennial like no have a side I gave him a full time job and then they have got at least one site game if not two. They're tackling it. So closely having won only time will tell one positive thing Internet in this is that fold 79%. Of people said they're not concerned about losing their jobs in the next year which eleven percentage points from a year ago. And not only that the wage growth look at week twos there yeah Caroline like. Man that I finally finally. Yeah well it had to happen right it you know my generation doesn't wanna work anymore I'm I'm retiring. Right so if I'm retiring and mean somebody's got a replacement and the person that's gonna replace business it will now do it but it's around lousy job and only get paid more. You know then that's that's just the nature. Up next Rick talk of seers are they going away. We think they are who gave the latest possible update we can Oakland Sears and Kmart next on the financial extra.
