Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and sharks done us. Many of you were probably looking forward to increase the volatility after a weekend. Well I'll tell you what the volatility continues its downward volatility that Dow was down a 181. Points. Three major stories when I look at them today you know one involves China and there are protesting Canada's detention of the wildly executive another one. This Carlos Gomes story Turkey back in news I want to talk about that and then riots in Paris France are actually all over France. So the the world is in turmoil the stock markets reflect that. And we're here to talk about it. Hi everybody it's very truck with you here it's a Monday morning and we're broadcasting live from the Tuscan. Grill in Burlington Massachusetts hope to stop by and have lunch with us. Let's start off with this China story. Here I am surprisingly Canada. Still has not shipped that executive. Down to the United States a little bit surprised that. No they haven't been in obviously you're you're thinking that at some point there's going to be extradition that happens we know is Canada arrested. The the CFO of while way main one zoo. On behalf of the United States and the thought is that hey this is going to be someone who will eventually has their mailed back their athletes through the US for prosecution eventually. But at this point. Still in Canada as they start to go through. Outlining the charges against her during her tenure there. I couldn't find wives in as I've read several articles on and you know why candidate wouldn't you would think it's like a hot potato. You Canada's now in hot water with China. China's talking about retaliating against Canada. If our Canada I would have shipped her down here the minute I got. Yeah and I believe that with regards to extradition it's typically within 21 days that you'll have someone claimed by the country that's actually intending to prosecute just three weeks is typically also the US has to actually clean car I believe so hard I believe so make it they've and we don't want her aunt and I've got to wonder if there's things going back and forth between the DOJ and the State Department and so forth saying okay what do we actually want to do now. So I do wonder if that plays into it somewhat. But it does appear that at least at this point. There's not really any movement in any direction it's happening she still in Canada I believe in Vancouver. Any accusation is basically. That law always set up this. Scam company called sky com. In order to circumvent. Selling American technology to Iran is that I mean that's what I've been able to glean and everything Everett. That that's the long and short of it is pretty much that during the years 2292014. While we want to do business with Iran just prior to the Iran deal being science of sanctions worm place not just from the US but from a number of countries on Iran at this time. And so pretty much China wants to be able specifically while way wanted to be able to do business in Iran. And so they set up effectively a shell corporation. To be able to. You know issue contracts signed contracts to and from Iran. But really it was still the same company you by. All reports you know the executives for sky come we're still using quality business cards and letterhead so you know it was a difference in name only there really was not any kind of meaningful separation. And mrs. main. Never came back to the United States over the last 45 years though she has a daughter. Going to school in Boston. Yes and apparently. As you mentioned that she traveled to the United States in 201415. And sixteen but her last one was in February of seventeen. And pretty much stuff while we had found out that there was a US investigation into this company now and so they pretty much. Bile count to older people don't go their anymore because there's decent chance he could be arrested if you do then she went to Vancouver. And they Cotter on change. Change of planes and you know believe she was actually heading to Mexico what when when she was arrested and taken into custody so. I think this still adds another wrinkle as far as where these US China negotiations go because that thing you come back to here. This is a person who not only is the CFO of the biggest Telecom company in China and but also is the daughter of the founder and the founder happens to be very connected politically in China so. This is not something. That is you know small potatoes here that the comparison that I've seen made. Is imagine if you know that the son or daughter you know Steve Jobs was arrested and Steve Jobs was. Closely tied in to you know someone in politics are like that that's pretty much what you're talking about here. It's it's fascinating to watch it be like bill gates' daughter and he you know getting arrested in title yet it's a mean that this is the state beat the you know chuck and I had a disagreement over this Carlos Gomes story and the disagreement stemmed from. I thought when they arrested Carlos gold was about 23 weeks ago. In the ballpark here somewhere maybe mid mid November I I smelled the rat. In and night was very suspicious of the Japanese. And would be. And it still may be that he's guilty but and the he would be the Japanese have indicted Karl skull but now we're starting to hear the other side of the story which is one where Karl's goal was about to fire. The CEO of Nissan. And where. You know it almost looks like sour grapes on the part of the Japanese. In other words we're gonna fire the CEO who's appointed by Renault the French company. And in an effort by interpretation of it back to three weeks ago is now think the Japanese like being alone by a French company. An indirect and you start to be you have to admit there's the start to be some to set some information speaking out that would lead you to believe that's true. The way I tend to interpret is this is that I almost think you have to read this story. But really focusing on the word and just being like is the fact you can have two ideas that both can be true here one in that. It does seem pretty obvious that Nissan shareholders and management want to go gone just because they felt that he was encroaching on their territory too much. He was controlling what has traditionally been a Japanese company. At the same time I do think based on what the Japanese authorities have Neil outlined here and it's also very possible that he was doing this but it was simply overlooked for awhile because it was not important now that he not be there and so from my perspective. It's something where I look at and say. If it does seem like there were some things in motion that potentially could have upset Japanese authorities and in people within the company there. But it's also very possible bets what he's accused of doing he actually did so I think both of those ideas can be true with the same time it is. Not sure over get a fair trial in Japan. Community they've the the they've had a million isolation in jail in Japan and they've been trying to break them and you know these very little interaction with his attorneys questioned endlessly. A bright guy I just want to get the heck out of there. Yeah I I don't know in enough to be able to specify whether or not he'll get a fair trial there but. And he gets out of jail. And says okayed you know I've agreed to the to have to leave but. He he's in a tough spot they. And I I really question whether or not he is as guilty or guilty of anything. Other than country trying to control the Japanese company that may be what we learned on the road. It it could be in an is his attorney to his credit again this is something where. We're still learning kits for him back to half weeks we didn't get anything from what you gotta talk we we've we've heard nothing about the specifics of the charges so it did start to build is it okay what's going on here right but stated the attorney for. A former. And he sent represented director Greg Kelly. Said that I guess declined to believe that the future payments were fixed amounted to NAFTA be reported in financial filings thought. Is that you could have a similar argument with regards to go here's I don't necessarily know. You know how much what what the level of guilt is for Carlos go. I think it is very clear. That it's. There's certainly did that there's absolutely. A group with in the senate probably was in Japan that wants going to beat you and further distanced from the company. But I think it's still unclear still whether or not there is any guilt here. But some of the stuff Allen does the suggesting maybe it was still an oversight but is it one that you know goes to this level I don't know. Well time will tell he didn't get jolts report the sport we did I was pulled it just a little while ago. And so the jolt support job openings and labor turnover survey which pretty much tells us. Many jobs were open and how many jobs were field how many people left jobs how many people quit we got that for the month of October runs on a two month delay here. And what it showed was that job openings increased to 7079006. Point 96 million. For the month of October. The number of hires also increased by about 200000 and the quits number actually decreased by about ninety house Nancy actually had a little bit of a decrease in terms separations quits there. And what it continues to say he Bjorn a job and one. Well not just a few wanna if you want a job potential to work you know one if you want a job and can't show up to work. The jury's still an outlet a lot of admirable but that's coming up but if you want to job if you are willing to Warren and willing to show up every day. You can still pretty much get when and in particular one of the things that interest and we've talked about the slowdown in construction over the last couple months and you hate construction seems to be slowing. You still have an increasing number of pinch construction job openings go for 27200292. So it's 7% increase on that front. Manufacturing had another 30000 job openings manufacturing job openings year over year. Now up about 26%. Would we have for wage growth on Friday at three point 13 point one for the year it was what's interesting so that that the previous four quarters we've seen steadily increasing wage gross. Fourth quarter wage growth unless we get a a blowout number for December is likely gonna come back in line somewhere close to the second quarter in the third the third quarter this year was on an annualized rate of three point 9% the second quarter was three point one so I think we're going to be closer to that 31 for the quarter. In the 39 we saw in Q3. Paris is on fire when we come back we'll talk about why. The Arab rioting in Paris I guess it'll like taxes that's next on the financial exchange. Breaking financial news. The financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and chuck saga on the financial exchange radio network the market has been extremely turbulent and 2018 the Dow NASDAQ and S&P have set new records and then slipped back into correction territory yet uncertainty about future performance remains in strong concerns about an impending bear market continue to worry investors hi this is chuck Donna I want to alleviate any anxiety you may have your portfolio won't survive a significant market correction clearly we can't predict if some wins but we can't prepare and that's the focus of our brand new guide this month we've identified and number of key factors to keep an eye on that could contribute to significant market correction including over valuations in the market and rising corporate debt to receive your free copy of our new guide the signs of stock market correction call 803934001. Hi everybody it's very Armstrong and I'm joined today by executive vice president from leader bank mr. Jake tool and were talking about this account today. It's called the Zuma rewards account and the thing that really caught my eye on this account is it's a savings account but sort of a god you guys are providing. Two point 05%. EPY. On that account how do you do. Yeah this is one of our most popular. Retail banking products vary so. It's it checking and savings companion Oka and if you qualify. You get some great reward so for example you're 2.0 5%. EP wise you're savings account up 200000 dollars 100000. You get 1% cash back and all of your eases spending your debit card that's good. Eight get ATM reimbursements if you use another thing sepia. And so do qualify I'm traveling in a Matta town there's not a leader bank branch nearby. I can use that ATM card and them would be reimbursed the three dollars to order exactly. That in so the benefit of that is that really expands a breach network you know he's any yen. It doesn't have to be leader main corn and if you qualify it's pretty simple you know yet to have your direct deposit go to the bank at least 12100 a month for you need to use. You use you count at least ten transactions a month incentive for these statements oh. It's it's something that customers would do any ways of using right now right yeah it's great benefits. People took to the streets in. Fourth consecutive weekend of protests in France so we can picture. Battles with police as the unrest. Paralyzed the French capital and piled pressure on president in annual much crawled to roll back his economic overhauls. Think Paris is on fire. I've got real concerns about Europe. Two heading into heading in the next year specifically. If you look at the four biggest economies in Europe. England France Germany and Italy. All right now there's a pretty good chance you're going to have new leadership and all four countries within the next eighteen months Italy to. I would imagine they look I can't figure out a budget well UK could be released. It will be UK based on the events of today could be in the next week if things go south for two recent match. Germany Merkel of Marcos done by twenty point you all 122 if you there'll next year geez there for at least another year let's cut but you've got a crone showing that. Really you know electing someone with the lack of experience that he has not really paying off there. In Italy I think there's big questions if they can't figure out but you're likely incidentally. Italy's well liked it might always be like that but you can deal with that way in Germany France England Stapleton. Went out and not in you'll. When you power vacuum in all four of the biggest countries in Europe and Europe's economy by the way. Is still the same size as the United States when he got all the different countries together. This real question is there because those four countries represent about half of European production I mean it's. It's a big question I think as far as weird those countries go from here. It certainly in France. You're seeing them a chrome government. Unable to real to really deal with these levels. Protest right now well in and what they're doing is you know that the protests are making the economy there got much worse I mean people it. People are going to Paris. Because of the protests that the streets are on fire. And this is something that. I don't know if they're going to be able. You realistically deal with this at this point because if in NN however one you know is talking goes about this you know gas tax that was put and they want this wealth. Just the issues that are being you know used as kind of fuel for this no pun intended there. The issues that pairs is dealing with right now. The same ones facing Germany same ones facing Italy same ones facing the US same ones facing England it's. You have a populist wave of people who feel they've been left behind him. In many cases of rightly feel that they've been left behind by the ruling powers for the last fifty years and that's not going away just because in the chrome decides to salute to put one attacks in a pool one tax. But the yellow the yellow jackets are basically the party. Primarily protesting gains over taxation does not their big gripe. That's what they're talking about I don't think that's the real issue when it's all said and done. It's it's the same reason immigration is it likely had and I know it gets it really is just pure. If it's the feeling that these people have been left behind by the rest of the economy and in looked in a lot of cases they have. It's the same thing that drove the UK to vote for breaks it. I just general what they do mean they're they're tax free track. When you look at their total form of taxation it's about double arches and people don't like our tax situation well it is but they also do receive you know. Point significantly higher benefits right. I think that to the question that that people were really grappling with not just again in. In in France but keep on what you're seeing there it's the same type of thing that we've seen in the US over the last five years that. There's a reason why Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders and gain the popularity they did in the last election it's because they were able to happen to this group of people that feel like they've been left behind that's that's what it is. Speaking of people who feel that they've been left behind for many millennial goals the idea of homeownership is still a big picture dream. With a new study saying that 89%. Plan to purchase a home in the future but simply cannot do it because a student debt this is a fascinating set and on the Tribune read but they. The day if it's one of those situations where the average payment offer for these kids that are coming out of school. Has increased. From just think about this post. In 2005. The average monthly student loan payment was 227. Dollars. Now it's 393. Dollars per month. Now we probably all had I federal what you but I had student loans when when I was. Finishing ups college. But I think my payment was like 35 dollars a month. These hit these kids are paying 400 bucks a month and that's the average so imagine they'd be be the there's no some people are paid a heck of a lot more than 400 dollars a month. Yep they're there are I think I take this with a grain of salt and that. Give it that definitely is a significant population it's. Affected by student loans and it has an inability to be able to save for a down payment it with the speed they would otherwise. But at the same time. Like I'll talk to an awful lot of people in there late twenties early thirties. And I'll give you an example I have a good family friend of ours who they were saving for a home for the last couple years. They kept giving beat out of you know this house and made out of that house and finally they said you know what. Screw we're not going to be able to buy a house let's take some are down payment go on a trip to Italy. That's great it's it's like okay will you can't have it both ways like there's no free one channel and so. I do think that looking it has been a discouraging time for people trying to get into the housing market. But I see an awful lot of people who do similar things too and it's just like look you can't necessarily do everything. That you want to you have to. To be able to make certain cutbacks of your friends that I don't know home how many of them got a little bit and help the students from folks. No never I've never really asked not religion my business and you know it's like I I generally try to. Respect that boundary but. I don't know I don't wrist. That boundary I wanna know the answer I wanna know how many of you. All are in a position to help your Malloy any else or it appear in some instances your grandchildren. With the down payment for home he can participate in our poll by visiting our website its financial exchange showed dot com. Are you in a position to help your child with down payment for home. I'd be cures to suit the results are that I mean. I've got kids and the way I look at it is I helped me if they needed help I've got to that old homes of my five. And I helped them and I don't think there's anything wrong with that I think it's very it's a bit big it's a boost right here you're trying to help them along and it ensures that they don't move back home with you. Right that's the easy the other big issue here the last thing you want is that millennial. Shown up your house does with with the with with a lot of stuff. I'm so I'm trying to keep my parents are moving back to me now if they're booted off me you won't well they get my Netflix every month if I can't get on the thing half the time. It coming up we're gonna take a look at the poll results or possibly talk about Mohegan Sun and foxwoods those casinos. Are really struggling line. You too much right that's next. For Wall Street watching like we got a few stocks to look into today let's start first with FaceBook it's about 2% today and they were a lot of stocks are struggling. What's the reason for good news today. Couple different items of first off FaceBook is increasing their stock buyback authorization by nine billion dollars as previously opera it's fifty billion dollars that's pretty substantially increased. And it's epic Deutsche Bank is that this morning. Considering FaceBook gay strong guy so those two days are yet to peace that is about the stock up about 2.2 percent this morning what's today it's pretty tremendously bad here. Big move up today for Nutrisystem two questions first who the heck are they to why are they up 20% today. Yes a small weight loss company. And they're being bought out so are stock is up 20% that you mentioned they're being purchased by activity health. For one point three billion dollars cash and stocks are shareholders are gonna get 3876. Share in cash and then. About it as the out there activity shares going to use preacher in each system so. Be implied value there's 47 dollars per share right out of stocks trading about 44 dollars share so slight discount. Count where should close that but there's a piece volatility between now. FedEx down about five and a half percent today what's the reason for the dip they are they not as busy as they thought they'd be this holy season or something else. Edited it that might be implications here there's as price change in management at their company expressed division. Which could do. Some analysts say well that's that's signaling possibly age you know. Issued a profit and you know and not really being a target so we don't know that the case yet but there wasn't surprised change in management that's not being viewed ultimately. Constantly sports like you mentioned stopped down about 5% of the. All right very good thank you might and that is Wall Street watch presented by liter bank for great read on home mortgage. Cult leader bank today 877691. 7900. Called out when they'll also mail you their free residential mortgage survival guide that's 877. 6917900. Or is lead bank dot com member of the. Ice. The casinos is in Connecticut. Mohegan Sun and foxwoods are starting to experience competition for the first time in I don't know thirty years to when they're from since whatever they open. And you know they've got a little Dakota competition. From twin rivers in Rhode Island and they had the little casino that opened plane built. But this MGM. Casino that opened in Springfield seems to be siphoning awful lot of money. At least from Mohegan and I suspect Ernie is similar numbers out of my foxwoods. Yet the their overall net income from operations actually fell 22%. Year over year from 71 million down 55 million. And the revenue that they pulled in over that time dropped by about 5% to 284 million down to 75. And so obviously facing competition from the MGM and this is before. We even have the encore opening about eight months or seven months from now gotten over and Everett and some curious to see if that causes a further dip. Simply because in that situation. You wonder people from the eastern part of New England might get pulled away from foxwoods Mohegan as opposed to give Springfield which I think is drawing. Predominately from western New England right now I'm sure they're sound from. Not used to doing in this heading there as well. But I I do wonder how much worse this gets four Mohegan. And foxwoods once you have the on core opening up in about. Six months now. When I'm told by people in the casino business is that foxwoods attracts a lot of Massachusetts people. And Mohegan. Attracts a lot of New York people it seems like that's the the dividing line and with those Everett casino opening. I would imagine a lot of that New Hampshire mean money that's going down at foxwoods or Mohegan that's not gonna go there and that it why would you. That's my thought you know I I used to go to foxwoods is decent amount. Never actually have the gift ever been to Mohegan stale what is it like an extra twenty minutes to get to Mohegan from foxwoods not even know what it's clearly on the other side of it pretty much it might be an extra ten or fifteen. But I pretty much always is what the fox Woodson I don't know why that was the case out it was just where I would end up going to. And it was as cheap as you said for dominantly in Massachusetts plates in the parking lot or UMass in Connecticut but you can really get much from New York I don't see much from Jersey just his. You know you get a lot of that heading down to Atlantic City anyways but. Heavy heavy Massachusetts plates and those laws. There are many benefits to Earl the estate planning among them keeping your assets out of rotate properly. And protecting them from the nursing home. Couple pieces of breaking news just to watch such an important one in terms of Bob big events. The UK government has officially delayed parliament's vote on breaks it which was scheduled for tomorrow. It indicates that pretty much they did not have the votes to be able to get that the room and so. The two options now are either Teresa make goes back to the EU saying hey we need additional concessions from bewitched good luck trying to fight that fight. Or two recent days pretty much done as prime minister because she's not going to be able to shepherd this thing through so how Long Will she stay in office that's the case I don't know but I can tell you that the I would come in and replaces them another election better. Again you can have snap elections over in Britain so I mean this could be something where we have ninety days and then there's another round of elections or something like that. In what I can tell you is that world markets are not exactly thrilled on this news now the Dow has gone from down 147 now down to 89. NASDAQ and Russell also turning into negative territory as well. And this is. This is not good. Right now it just the you know I get questions quite frequently about volatility how long been alas I say look this volatility. Both down and up some days it's gonna continue for a long time it as in years. There's a new bank opening in Springfield and that to me shows that Springfield Massachusetts is on the men finally. Yeah it's really good to see this just try to get a little bit of counterbalance in that not only Massachusetts but really the whole New England region which has been so tilted towards the eastern side. Of the region. But you have a new bank called new valley bank and trust that Israel received preliminary federal and state approvals. A few weeks back. They're still looking around and trying to grab investors are trying to raise about 25 million dollars in order to get started raced ten of that at this point from about a 120 initial shareholders. And the goal for next year. Now as they wanna get up to about a hundred million in deposits in year one with the 125 million in assets on the books. And the ability to make loans up to two and a half million dollars so. I do think it's a really good thing for Springfield that you're seeing this happening now. I think it is mesh is pretty well with what you're seeing with the additional economic activity from the casino yet. But you know this is going to be this going to be a multi year process for this bank to get any kind of meaningful scale but I do think it mean it's it's good just because. You could not seen a new banked in that area you need. Decade since 2009. Well here's here's a couple points about Springfield. Back eight years ago. The unemployment rate in Springfield Massachusetts was twelve point 3%. Today the unemployment rate is five point 5%. Mass mutual is bringing about 14115100. Jobs now they're just all they're doing is relocating those people from anfield yet. But they're gonna be in downtown Springfield downtown Springfield you have been out there. Pretty quiet town near you was not a lot going on. Now that transformation is occurring. Mean it is it's nice to seek as it was just. It was one of those cities it had a lot of infrastructure a lot of empty office space and it's all getting filled up witches but the currency currency. Boston does not have enough housing so can it get help from the sauber tires reading this article in the Wall Street Journal and what's happening in my town and in many towns. Is developers are coming in trying to build forty B housing in the suburbs right they're going to places like Ashland they're trying to build make feel they'll probably talk try to go to your town Westwood. And put in these forty B housing project in the house and people are saying no we'd rather pay higher property taxes. Then to have. These. Big apartment complexes come into our town. I don't know much longer they can hold because of property taxes are already pretty high in western suburb. And Elise for us in in Westwood they've been pretty aggressive about actually building. An awful lot down in the university have area. Yup we're that they now of another odd couple buildings that are going up there I think it's going to be an additional five or 600 units at the putting up there. But that qualifies them. Exactly but you do have real problems and a lot of these towns because especially if you look at talent with high property values. A lot of voters and look I get it to a certain extent. They want to keep those property values high and look it's it's basic supply and demand hey if we don't you know allow more lots and we don't allow significant apartment construction. It'll keep demand high and supply low and that's what people want what the problem is they put straight you stress on the school system it it puts stress on the school system but the other thing is. You know it also if you. Keep raising property tax eventually start pushing people out you do afford those property taxes a lot of my neighbors have left the town because a property is especially what you see is that in a lot of cases. Once someone's kids are through school yeah you see all the people exit those towns know once people get to age 5055 or sixty whenever directors through high school. Lot of time you see people saying I am not paying these high property taxes anymore and they take off and head out of town now. To this point it's worked as there's been you know people to backfill that but. It does hurt kind of the continuity of town just as people mightily state for 1520 years and then their out as opposed to becoming lifelong residents. All right coming up we're going to be talking about two companies that are gonna be going public. In the first 120 days of 2019 that's next but it to exchange. On top of breaking financial news by becoming a member of number of calories per day bug until financial exchange does come in sign up today. But the Dow is down 277. Points and NASDAQ off. When he points I think what you want them maybe. But we have an announcement. Out of lift and Hoover. That they're gonna go public but he think goes first public first or lift beat him to the punch because they made their announcement first. I think lift goes first I have questions on whether or not Hoover's and actually end up going through next year. If you see this volatility continue I do wonder if they're going to be able to raise what they want a raise and trying to raise what do you think the companies were 100000000100 and running well there underwriters are floating these balloons for 120 billion but there's no way the company's worth 120 billion at this point. When the market tanks that lets say they'll both her and told me this correction there continues. The the we can't poem like the week before you've got to he had given some notice and once you pull it. You were you're in trouble right that you can't go back for. No you you got some restrictions then as far as what you're able to do so. I think lift could probably get by just as they don't need to freeze much you know it's it's a smaller company than not will confers much. But if Hooper trying to raise it again we don't know exactly know how much but it overs trying to raise. I would imagine there go for somewhere in the ballpark of seven to ten billion dollar somewhere in that range. I just don't know if you're gonna have that kind of risk taking appetite if this market stays volatile in the first quarter of next year which the way this Greg's thing is going. That that's the real issue at this point talked talked to us about it so immediately guessing on perks so this is I was taking a look earlier this is out. We've we learned about fifteen minutes ago that Teresa made delayed the vote on breaks that was scheduled for tomorrow in the UK parliament. And now while prime minister two recent may is saying that the British government has to step up preparations for a no deal breaks it meaning. Leaving the EU without any deal between them in the EU as far as trader anything along those lines there. She's still claiming that there should be support for this deal but. I don't know how much longer to recent days able to remain as prime minister you know I mean if if she can't get these deals through. Which did not really any point for her being there at this point with the way the British. System works and how does that change if she you know say Boris Johnson or somebody else comes in and takes over. How how can nail the sudden solve the problem. They won't now it's it it's not that this is a problem per making because I think that she's in the get I said from the second that you came in. That she had wanted nothing to do with it but was gonna try to push through anyways. And that's pretty much what's happened. But I don't think anyone can get a better deal from the EU could use has no incentive to offer a good deal I heard over the weekend that they are actually considering a second referendum. Did you read that I have sued the that the betting odds now on that are up to around a 45%. Chance that they have a second referendum. Here's the problem that I have on the second rougher night. Don't don't share your tell toasty with the thing happened. I don't you don't like the idea the second reference. We'll be having an eight. I think it I think it might at this chart perspective on the second referendum is and he says well. Let's say they voted gains bricks it do it would he do two out of three a good rock paper scissors you know Wesley K I just. I I think they might have a second referendum at this idea to idea tune in I think it would be a horrible move to do it but I think that they might when actually it struck me remember when they had the referendum. Nobody knew they are voting for is and what ever know what they're voting for. At bat every ballot question you've ever had how many people actually know what you know voting yes or no actually I think I actually do but I hear you saying I'm in the minority oh yes yes. Why I I just wonder where well I guess Woolsey. He is just instinct to to watch what happens. Let's go to the text liner tech's number of course is 63566. Boston is it growing city and people want your your kids that need lived in Worcester. The wanna go to. Boston where they wanna go to New York if they're going an eastern school in knots anal wanna go to New London, Connecticut say you know wanna go to major city. I know that the other report that we are talking not only addresses housing and but the bigger issue for me you long term when I look at the city of Austin is transportation yes end. You'd see it now where look at you know it's it's already gotten the forward to really tough to get around pretty much any time especially today in a car does it. And the problem is there's no money to go around to actually improve the infrastructure as far as. Either you know additional rail services additional boss services but just raise taxes. And don't just raise taxes sort of look at that Eric harris' burning that raise taxes that go well you know. But it's I look at the infrastructure and I think that's going to be as big if not a bigger problem. That housing availability. It is something that is on the minds of many investors and Mike one of the questions that I think people have today is is the. That jolt for sport. Who comes out once a month was released on. I had to do labor turnover within our labor force at wages job hopefully we'll share that information that was a good report. However stocks are selling off to Dallas down 476. Point. Largely based truck on what we are learning about blacks. Actually were a little slower now off or north 500 points so. Yeah it's if this breaks situation is I don't wanna say about as bad as an excuse he could happen it's about that excuse is you can have. Pretty much what happened today was to Reese made a prime minister of the UK. It was an average scheduled a vote for tomorrow on the deal that was approved by the EU about two weeks ago. That vote in parliament was scheduled take place on December 11. And today she pulled the vote largely because. She felt they were not enough votes in parliament to get that deals through what would've happened if they voted. And it was a negative vote mean aides said no thanks. Number one it just would have been. Really and there are staying true to recent name in terms of her ability to continue leading. The Tory party at this point she's not going to be able to go forward anyways but it I was gonna say she's out anyway she's she's pretty much done at this point I think the big question is. Weird do they go from here because. Realistically to deal that has been hashed out between Teresa amazed negotiators. And the EU. Which is primarily Germany which primarily Germany and France to a certain extent primarily Germany. It's the best deal they're going to be able to Africa is that there's no incentive at all for Germany to compromise that they did just isn't there's no reason for them to try to make it easy. For countries to leave you wouldn't want to make it hard right hole if you could do it easily and everyone would walk like you just come and go as you please Verizon you know that they don't want that obviously. So I think there's the two possibilities. That there's three possibilities that still exist number one. Is Teresa make it say OK we just need a little bit more time and hey we can vote on the steal and get on I think that's unlikely. Option number two is they go through with breaks without any kind of traders are renegotiated deal with the EU. Which would be really hard it would be a disasters not the right word is disasters are things that you know go horribly wrong people die and so forth it would not be a disaster but it will be. Review the really challenging to do breaks with out deal but that's possibility. The third possibility that we brought up a couple times now. Is that they have another referendum to vote on whether or not they wanna go through with that and maybe they vote now that they actually want to stay instead of leaflets that these. And then again you do two out of three they. Well it probably you know you probably have another one in a few years why are we just do one every year to see you like how things like what yeah I like. What do we want to do this year you know it's so I. I think there's real questions as to what this deal ends up looking like if this goes through. But it's. If they have been no deal breaks it meaning there's no now hurry. If you would think that's elected it would eat with over two points away from the deadline. And two recent days government has said. In no one's certain terms this deal's not pass. The EU is said this is the deal. So either someone pass the blink. Or there's not going to be one. Be inching away that's kind of what were up two at this point. Jolt report he's the that used to be a very important report now it's just seems like. There's more jobs than there are people fill ups yet we we continue to see an increasing number of job openings now to seven point 08 million job openings for the month of October. To put that in perspective in terms of the number of people that are on continuing claims for unemployment mean there's still. Excuse still claiming an appointment for an extended period of time. The number of people that are there is about the every point two million at the mole pops or two point eight million now. So you now have more than two job openings for every person claiming an appointment V. In two. 1009. And are a few folks who call it back in 2009. For every job opening there was or seven people applying for. That job I'm sorry give the wrong numbers we have about six million unemployed people steal them. But it exit just look about them how invert the numbers have become a line you have to be seven to one if you had a job opening you'd get a ton of applicants. Now you have a job opening you may not get any applicants because everybody's got a job anybody who wants to work it where you you alluded to it earlier. Where there seems to be tremendous. Labor shortages. Are in construction in in the trades. And in to give you some numbers there in construction over the last year we've got 233000. Job little openings to 92. In manufacturing we've got for 4101000. Openings to 522000. Openings. In the trades we've gone from 1031001. Point 28 million so you're in just about all these sectors that. Rely on people to be effectively use their physical ability to actually. Build something or do something or get something done. You now have 25%. Job more job openings today than it did a year ago. Tesla is considering the purchase of some idled General Motors plants that's what they use that they'll play they'd have a California was do you plan. It was Zia and so what you want most candid interview one on sixty minutes last night trademark. He said that he. What was the statement he made about the SEC. Does respect the does not respect the SEC which is always good to say about someone poke poke your boss and who I am in charge of law enforcement for your specific company. So yeah that's certainly you know left some questions. I get this he said you know they might consider buying these plants. I don't know where that money for the now I've they would have to pay through the it was a much for. Mean they they paid next to nothing for the planes. But there April 2 retrofitting all you know is when you have to retool for completely new line like that that's that's expensive. But they meet more plant. Space at some point. You know which day it kind of leads into the next story both Ford and Volkswagen. And I saw this conversation. Coming up we have Ford and Volkswagen can not merging by any means because there's. The in the sea suite they're saying they'll be absolutely no equity purchases no equity swaps are going like this it's just a joint venture. To better utilize a lot of the under utilized for plants and we have a lot of that in the United States a lot of our factories. Are under utilized Volkswagen has a lot of demand for their product and so they're talking to Ford about sharing technology in terms of driver of the scars. But also in terms of electric vehicles because Volkswagen. Really wants to get into the electric artists. Yeah and in specifically one of the things that Volkswagen is also talking about is. Using the United States as the eight distribution platform export to the rest of the world most notably they want to use to distribute over to China. In greater numbers but certainly also to Latin America and places like that and so I think this is. If it's an interest in potential combination because I I do think Ford. They got a little over their skis aside from the F 150. They really have had a number of high profile misses in the last decade it really has not been agreed to ten years for Ford which. The interesting thing there is the previous decade. They were the one US manufacturer for cars that actually know didn't go ahead of a bailout they actually had better management that. But that's hurt them now because you have General Motors flushed all their debt right and just say hey we're not paying and we went bankrupt and forward. Maintain their obligations but it's killing them. In terms of their ability to develop new vehicles. It is hurting them now so what this joint venture would be is again sharing some assembly plants here combining some marketing and distribution. We potentially building. You know schism combined used vehicles so for example. Volkswagen does not have a pickup truck OK so does Ford you know placed some big tech its technology to Volkswagen to big a bill to pick up truck. Now for the Chinese marketers something that those the kinds of things that are being talked about and then I think that the big one that has people you know excited is. Hate you anything related to autonomous vehicles are electric vehicles you know that's that's an area where I think Ford needs help right now. And where potential cooperation. It makes cents a few weeks ago General Motors announced that they are closing some plants and laying off I think about 151000. Employees. In one of the victims. Of those closures will be my favor vehicle the Chevy Volt will no longer being manufactured does that mean I'm driving around a collector's item. Before we get to that how you doing today. Right here on the financial exchange radio network. Trivia is brought to you by the Armstrong advisory group. With the market still volatile. Now's a great time to review your investment portfolio call 803934001. And set up you're free no obligation consultation. On this day 188. Years ago. Influential American poet Emily Dickinson was born we will be asking trivia questions about Emily Dickinson. Emily Dickinson had a paternal grandfather. That one was one of the founders of which Massachusetts. College. Then to be at school. Good school. That we play trivia is you text us the correct answer our tech's number is 63566. If you're new to trivia make sure you put my first name it's Barry BA RY. At the beginning of your text message. Emily Dickinson had a paternal grandfather that was one of the founders. Of which Massachusetts. College. And I believe they started. That Williams College vote in that way out western mass that's that's who would be the founders of Amherst. Used to teach. At to to just you know the answer. But you do. If that's accurate do we have to ask another question now I don't have another one so somebody's gonna when I could make Kamal tells about Verizon. Let's move on. So Verizon. Apparently was offering a buyout package to. A number of its employees they ended up with a little over 101400. People. Accepting this buyout offer and so represents about 7% of Verizon's overall global workforce. And so this is going to all be part of a plan. To help Verizon saved ten billion dollars. Over the next three years. And so pretty much what this program offered. Two employees who was just up to sixty weeks of salary bonus and benefits. In the end dates for these employees are going to be anywhere from year end of this year so some people might be done with in the next two weeks all the way up to June 29 teens are some employees may be staying on for another six months before this severance pack goes it was offered to 44000 employees will less than. Quarter except. You know we're not in the negotiating room so we don't know what's going on between China and the united United States in terms of these trade negotiations. But will we do know is that Larry Kudlow meet these statements yesterday. On Fox News some very positive promising statements out of Beijing. He also sent some 35. Chinese agencies and the country's Supreme Court we're working on new legislation to deal. With intellectual property theft issues and we talked a lot about trade great news tail we're getting ripped off in terms of the pricing of TV's you know the companies that zenith data business. It's not about trade this whole disagreement with China has to do with the error. Outright theft of American technology. And I am hopeful based on the articles that I've been reading over the weekend trip that we'd actually might makes a process progress on it. But the markets seemed to be. Disagreeing with the Dow's down 460 points yet it. I don't know markets are too focused on China right now just because the you know breaking news on breaks it with regards to what do you think that the man driving everything down I think that's the heavier peace just as we saw the sell off begin really right after we saw that vote pushed back so. At I think with regards to the trade issue. I think there's still some real questions as to you know what the deal looks like they could possibly you know get done on both sides. But I don't think we're gonna be able to get any real insights over the next you know three to six weeks just because. It's it's really tough to tell what's real what's kind of not with the fog of war of you know what's going on these negotiations so what this volatility that we. And experiencing. Foreseeable future is the last for a long time. If the China deal gets made at some point in the next three months that takes a big quit there's three big questions that are on the table heading in the next year you've got US China trade. You've got just about anything related to Europe which breaks to part of but not all of obviously France and Germany Italy have their own issues right now and then you have the US economy in the concerns on housing and things like that if I world ranking them. I put Europe number one in China number two in the US number three both in terms of severity and likelihood problem when you mean you look at the US is that really. Concentrated towards the Fed is that yours your it is it is and and in that something that. That's what I'm concerned I think you know the fate is making moves now to pivot and so. I take the Fed's somewhat off the table as far as long term risk the Fed is a short term risk it's not really long term risk. When you look at what's going on in Europe. It's both a short and long term risk and it's significant one you know it's into the issue that you run into here is. If you continue to see this this populism that builds over there. The Euro will not hold. Eventually like it would it will break if this continues to build discuss its foundation is very strong to begin with. While when you say it won't hold pretty tired collapse in value. It will fall apart. I mean if you go back I'll give you an example what do they do for current and bitterly don't have current suit two years ago when they were some questions about this after breaks in Germany was. Printing in emergency store of Deutsche marks in case the Euro collapsed. So all of Europe would go to the deutschemark I don't know all of it would but you know Germany certainly is building contingencies and the problem is. When you move away from a more unified approach that's where you kind of get back to the ugly old days of Europe where right you know. After her little cereal like each other there that's what people are fearful they think back to 1914 and I think back to 1939. Which is why when I looked at you know while wolves about. Four weeks ago now when you had Merkel and Lecrone is standing side by side to mark the hundredth anniversary of the end of World War I. It's speak progress hundred years those are two countries that he'd eat each other while not as much as France and Great Britain. Even though he's a hero or for 500 years they were put in a fortunately they have water between them you know that that makes a little harder to appear conduct. Warfare. But people forget that the history of Europe for pretty much the last 500 years. Was largely Germany doing just about whatever want to with occasional burst of France and England coming on the scene to you know kind of place near the rule checking them for it France having. It would join forces CO2 to keep Germany down so. Well Lou we'll follow it is the this story does not appear to be getting any better. At a Europe we're going to be talking about oil and there's a couple stories if finally missed some good news to share written. As it relates to oil especially for those of you who heat your home. So with the oil in anybody who's driving gas fired card they're going to be glad to hear about what we've seen as a relates for the price of gasoline. And some new oil reserves that were found in the United States. This all on a day where the Dow is down 463. Points NASDAQ is off 72. And the S&P 500 was down 42 point will be right back. Hi this is chuck and Mike from the financial exchange with volatility up over the course of October and November. One of the big questions of people have is how much worse could the stock market correction get Mike. Simpson issues that are out there one that's really been in the news tighten trade tensions what what's the latest on what we're seeing in trade. Yeah absolutely I mean certainly nothing has. That said we started to wrap up some negotiations with Canada Mexico. A lot of negotiations with Europe have pretty much been dealt with. And when you look forward you do have to ask. How bad could things get but also how good thing could things get if trade tensions either get worse or better and the big the big question has to do which the second largest economy in the world. And if trade negotiations go worst or China that I would have concerns about this stock market currently. About the length of this bull market that we've seen is that something that should give investors pause. Well yeah I mean right now technically speaking we are in the longest bull market. In history and that would be a picture of time without a 20% market correction but you know as you can point out there have been several other periods of time where markets have lasted a really long time. 1980 seven's 2000. Pretty much went that entire time without a 20% correction although there was in nineteen point 9% correction during that appeared. Folks the guy that's available this month is titled the signs of a stock market correction in this volatile market. Emily Dickinson was born and raised in Amherst Massachusetts where nine years before her birth her grandfather Samuel. Dickinson assisted in the founding of Amherst College. And I bought any of check my history knows but I thought that the founders of Amherst came at a Williams. I don't know I don't know. I don't know but I can tell you units of great answer at least that was Brenda from navy acoustic no fifty dollar gas card and tribute today is brought to you. By the Armstrong advisory group with the market still volatile now's a great time for a review your portfolio. Just call 80393. 4001. Incident your free no obligation consultation today that's 800. 3934001. The United States Geological Survey. Has revised the technically recoverable reserves. In the war camp basin in the Permian share shale play. To 46 point three billion barrels of crude oil and 281. Trillion cubic feet. A natural gas that's up from twenty billion of crude. I'd say that were on our way to becoming energy independent if we want to. Yeah I was looking at a chart the other day I need to see if I can figure out where it was a big round. Right now but I saw a chart the other day on how much oil the US was importing. Each each day effectively over the last decade. Non we've gone from importing about six million barrels day. Two importing only about three million barrels day over the last decade suits you know we've made some pretty meaningful progress. US exports have also increased significantly in right now. Were producing about eleven point seven million barrels a day according to the latest data from the EIA. But what this does here. Is if the user reserves turn out to actually be there because mentally actually gonna get pipes the grounded notes it's all speculation to a certain extent. But. If these turn out to be there. It makes the this this deposit. Much more sustainable than previously real. Studio and it's good news. And then the average price of gasoline has dropped 22 cents per gallon in the last few. I drove by 287. Tucker. And arts I mean I've paid what was it like to mediate to the united typically you'll find the best bargains and he doesn't I don't apparently now. Okay because that's not a reprise. What side dividend Pretoria. In Toronto or what it's worth it by the way even just since this article was written. Prices fall further when you factor in today now we're now down from from a month ago on a national average down 28 cents a gallon. We seem to stabilize around that fifty dollar price for oil. At the moment yeah domestic source AM ET it seems like that's where you're seeing some stability now so it's good to see that. Just because I did have concerns on domestic oil production if we fell into the low forties so it's good to see you little stability around fifty were hey it's still more affordable for folks. But it's. You know it's easy it is you know a question I think as far as stays the C long term stay in stable area for prices. Is if we do get back down into the thirties and forties I think there's a lot of investment. Pull out that point you. What do you eighteen has seen incredible swings in the stock market causing some analysts to predict that a bear market is coming sooner rather than later. Larry gold haven't we re used to talk about all the all the time member goal that up to. 19100 bucks announce yet he goes what back in 2011 or 12% in that range and then. We've been pretty range bound on gold over the last five or six years now it seems like we've gotten is closed maybe 1015 ounce may be as high as thirteen fifty. Where we sit right now goals about 1215 it's been your. Com over the last year that hasn't been a huge fluctuation. Part of that is because you've seen a stronger dollar over the last years and that's helped keep gold prices in check a little bit. But it's. You know it's it is something where. I wondered maybe it's just as we're not talking about as much but it doesn't seem to be as much buzz about gold as there used to you know 789 years ago when you're rising interest rate environment to get rising interest rates are generally bad for gold yup right. But all this risk on. Are you got you talk about the eurozone breaking up you look at China trade where if you think gold would rally. Historically there's been the kinds things where you've seen big rallies in gold so. I don't know why it is so subject subdued at the moment but you just not seeing a whole lot of volatility there which. It is odd because normally volatility in stocks which historically cause volatility in gold in the other direction but that's not the case rate. You know get a kick out of people are complaining about the volatility in the stock market but now looking at that point it's trading at 3500 bucks. Calling in if you're call used to when he thousand dollars for a bit going in twelve months ago. It is just about this time last year though some gap is how quickly things change I knew that it was. Beyond where it should be when you know arise you know that the conversations that multifamily around Christmas Day in Christmas dinners and stuff like that ends. When I went I had you know cousins who were talking about bitcoin who had no business talking about it means they like that you noticed was that I. And when there's people here they wanted to refinance their house look like it but also it's sort of like oh yeah I found this other one called you know ripple not really into that rate that's equal. What is bowl oh I don't know it just he just keeps going up well okay eventually won't you know there's this thing called gravity. But what I heard those conversations. It was you calculate what a cab drivers giving you stock tips it's time to get out of the market it was a similar thing. Marlboro. Cigarette manufacturers actually called Altria now. His investing one point eight billion dollars in Canada us now you know who's gonna take over the marijuana business it's going to be the tobacco companies. In this was always my theory to begin with and that they have the distribution they have the lobbying arm they have everything they need it's not at all to roll out quickly once they need to use of this bidding up the deep pockets yes they know how to you don't make sure it's. Pure and not laced with anything bad that they got when he real estate obviously to grow the stuff on if they want to. And so one point eight billion dollars in two crow those groups they also have. The opportunity to upgrade that to a majority stake of 55%. Over the next five years. And so Altria. Making a couple deals here that it may mean making this one now. But they've also been kicked the tires on that. Look we know that our core businesses decline you know people aren't smoking is much they use to. What is it about 14% of the population straight rounds there yet somewhere in that ballpark for the generation I'm looking at right now. When you guys heard young and seniors in in the 1960s and 1970s. 40%. Of American adults smoked cigarettes forty. Now it's about 14% how things have changed. Well we stats and what percent of American adults smoked marijuana. Wouldn't everybody lies about it. To note note he's gotten at no no way to tell you the truth but I can tell you. I took a walk us a tour through dispensary. And the dispensary was in you'll Brookline savings bank on route nine on your way in your drive Fenway Park. It's a net and ETA. Most of the people that were in the dispensary were older than. It was it's a medical dispensary. It's a lot of senior citizens that are using candidates for pain relief they use in the oil wells and here I'd be using the the at a bulls. And they're using it instead of oh purely for pain relief doctors and physicians assistants and nurse practitioners. Though they most doctors can prescribe it is about certified acted to do so. But you can find a doctor that will prescribe it and that's what people are doing it it's becoming mainstream so I don't know what the numbers are but politically. I think that the numbers are something like with 63% of the country want it legalized. Think it's it's sixty it's in the sixties I don't know exactly where but you've seen it you'll always reports on this. And I always find their polling fascinating because if you look at it historically over the last thirty years now you've seen it it's gone from on just pulling up the data right now here ago. So back in 196912%. Of Americans wanted marijuana legalized 12% 12% Africa 84% wanted it illegal at that point. Today as of 2018 at 62%. Want it legalized 34%. Wanted to remain illegal. Well it it's leading to a lot of jobs didn't die in just another couple years you're gonna have a quarter million people. Working in the legal candidacy industry some of the jobs include. Director of cultivation that's actually pretty good job you ate those. The director of cultivation these the people that are actually growing the plants they're making anywhere from 88000 to 250000. Dollars a year. Eight but tender. You know he would ever hurt I had never heard that term. Bartender if it is a blood tender. Is the guy at the store that will. You know give you advice as to what type of Kansas yet but and it tended birdied thirteen thirteen dollars an hour to sixteen dollars an hour. Dispensary manager. Director of extraction. 88 I edit tremor you could become like a a as a barber if if it's a tremor media day you I guess you just take a little off the top I don't know. But it is give this one high and tight. We laugh about it but our our children. Are going to be working in in some instances our grandchildren will be working in this industry. It very little doubt in my mind or hide folks feel that the very little doubt in my mind they candidates will be legal on a national level within the next 510 years the political power is 63%. Of the population wants it right so politically becomes untenable to not have him SP becomes an election issue he can't get voted it was your paper. I still think there's there's even though it's 34% there's. Very high concentrations. Of anti marijuana sentiment in certain parts of the country not only might prevent it from being legalized nationally you do use the short term. They coming up or be doing a review. Of the 2019.
