Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with a Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. It is a happy day for Red Sox Nation fourth. World Series in the last fifteen years a lot of people are pretty happy about that and I'll tell you who else is happy. Anybody who owns shares. In a company called Red Hat we'll talk about that as well this morning hi everybody it's very truck with you here. Everybody's got just a little bit of a hangover from this weekend lot of late nights. Bomb wired and him you know when he crashed properly at noon. I. Talked Packers running on adrenaline and you know six cup star bucks a year ago. For me for a holy crap let's go to do the with what the financial ram. This quick how much for you added on now it's just players and guy. It doesn't matter who did prices in with 311 million dollars OK so he could he has not gonna affect his standard living. But if you're a ball player like yours does. I think he's in the three million in Korea is make a law. That it's of the role players of the disease in your contract is actually go with six point 250. Much this year at the so will the World Series MVP it's a new truck out of it who's who's a lower paid. Player and go through while the Red Sox Lewis so if you go to the bottom end of Canada the players that are on this team and a lot of rookie second year guys who were stolen with a call arbitration years and things like that Matt Barnes making 600000 dollars this year. Rough field devers making 565. Yet critical home run. In news it was a pretty basic yeah. The previous year's sales he has Christian vest as making one half mile and Helio making two mill even to keep that he's kind of underpaid now. How much he's underpaid but he's still making ten million dollars but you probably see MVP you know to go back again who's make it 600. Zia Matt Barnes and have been attendees making 620 XY RA is so that's how much it they enemy it's yours we don't know exactly how much does or does the the playoffs years haven't been announced yet last year the World Series champion Houston Astros took home 438901. Dollars and 57 cents. For winning the world seers and beach that's cumulative rate is that the fourth thirty Yi is also including winning. The yankees you know that's that's the World Series. Bird would do they get another check for win in the are currently your know. What about winning in. Well cases you get checked you'll get paid for win the world you know you get paid for if you get paid based on health or you go yeah the playoffs yes it is cute. That you eat the 438 includes winning the division series and as you get paid or you get paid for how party go it's like it. Last year the Red Sox got paper. Yeah you know. It was a small participate in the participating in big oil Red Sox last ago like 36002 it was like now. Prepare for those guys you don't have it set skewed in enemy close to happen in box. And that it is they made. Oh darn near via. Darn near you know it will be big for a lot of the especially. Like Ryan Frazier who's been pitching you know in Japan in all kinds of other countries to 31 -- almost 32 years old first years been in the major leagues me 500 grand this year he's gonna double what he made it's a big deal. NATO may they'll all be another underpaid and only two million bucks he did really cast I'll use a legendary performance and hash Ian would why he freeagent yes well yeah he's going to be kitten seventeen when he really a year you know that brings up that point you'd you look at this and yet everybody is the Red Sox Nation. Just because it. Is ending its best team American and it's not necessarily. Great player development green drafting is we went last year was great player development drafting. Yeah I mean look at his young core Houston Astros last year one based on pretty much they're the guys they draft and you can have as much money you want at the end of the day you have to have some sort of young core. To push you through that look like sharks at the Astros last year. The Red Sox this year the clippers ST take a look there abuse of the best players that they had on the team aside from Justin Verlander is making it twenty million a year in those failed to me is making four point 62 he's still on his rookie contract as a win win small market team. Can any rules warriors in 2000 for them for years ago in emperors and I don't think Alison. Operas are in the final four this year and yet there one of the lowest generals in baseball sometimes you you know we view. It is viewed as well lightning in a ball and let me ask you this would be. A better. Lee would there be more interest in baseball if it was hard when there's hockey basketball but now. You don't need it and baseball because one player can't it's transformed the sport can transform a team the way they came in in basketball is an example of hockey's. A team sport. And when balls in teams you know you have a great quarterback but Terrell deepens you know one. I disagree in football but believer quarterback in a lot of things you look at the patriots last year and as. All we're just across the board via song at all or quarterback right now. Yeah it's BBC I still think it's our cap news and know these two issues inter were our games yet terms of interest now. Whatsoever. IBM I got news that this last news connection with my son and dinner that message seated IBM red. And he was shocked. I told them how much they're pain. Company 109 dollars this year. Yet this is effectively an admission by IBM in a very expensive admission. That what they've tried to do over the last decade hasn't worked that's that that's the message that I take from this because Red Hat. Was a company that was valued somewhere around eighteen billion dollars it was trading about six times sales and they paid eleven times sales. For this company Red Hat pretty much what they do their their cloud computing company. That focuses on BO Linux development. And this is pretty much an admission from IBM it's a new company it's not like it's what 25 years old them again it's not. Like yeah it puts it I mean 25 his youngest and technology mature about it but you know that this is a company that. It in IBM that pretty much in doing this is admitting nothing that we're doing on the cloud side is working and so we just need expendable. Load of money hope that this works out my my impression of the deal and I'm not a technology guy. But it's like hail Mary on the part of Geneva on the you know she's a failed CEO right she's been there six years stock has been just ms. or this is pretty much in mission that she did fail. And did she survive. Thank you imagine if this because it beat the impression I have is a paid too much I again I could be wrong but if if this. Goes south and if this doesn't have a major impact like how long does she have to make this deal work a year two years three years so IBM has as a result of making this deal has said they've suspended their share buyback for the next two years in order to clean things up from a cash flow perspective we need the money for the assists big cash deal so we're building I look at this in theory you've got to give her at least to the end of that just because you know that's where you're gonna potentially see what what happens there but. I mean you look at all of the deals of this side that have happened besides that it happened intact. They generally don't work out what to them when when you look at this deal at 34 billion dollar price tag. Do wit if you're shareholder in Red Hat and he said why don't wanna 890. Dollars funeral haven't traced it. Why would you wanna take the 19 or just say you think it's worth. Under 210 under something you want a book all you can really do is vote against you have to take cash maybe it is yeah acts reason you don't wanna do it yet you have no chance you you're Europe you backpack. Beaten that deal that money's gonna show up in your brokerage account what you want or not how long does that take a deal like this to close let's wind it lets say I did own a thousand shares a Red Hat right. And it's gonna close is it. Is it the year and is in Q1 is cute to some of these deals take a long time in aid and some of them get the government approval. What what they're guiding to on this is that it's going to take somewhere between six and nine months for this deal actually closed so it's not a tax issue for this year no it's it's likely going to end up being somewhere I would guess in the second quarter early third quarter next year. Is where you see disclosed so late spring early Summers is kind of what you're seeing. For win this closes but. I'll tell you if if IBM gets this one wrong thing. They're not out of business is companies that be don't go out of business but they're going to be in a case where there digging out for the next decade. Now the you know what I said to my son says this sounds like it GE type deal. Is subject in Mo wouldn't I was gonna say HP OK you have that radio battery you'd met maybe a better comparison because of the attack that relationship but we'll see yeah you know. It's easy to two point. Fingers and cast aspersions. We're not in the boardroom we don't have access to the financials we just looking and I guess at holy smokes your pain 190 bucks for a company that on Friday close at 111. This this is one of those deals and and here's the other thing is you look at this and you looking kind of when they're doing this. Really bring sim morally to that AOL Time Warner merger you know. Peak value wait like you just it has all the feelings of like something that just isn't going to work. And you kind of wonder does Red Hat and up on top. With this deal did does this become a Red Hat culture company. Because Red Hat. You look at its red hat's success in revenue growth than share price appreciation I mean they're they're one heck of a comfort there's still would it here's the thing so. Red Hat they go back to that lasted about two point nine billion dollars in revenue and IBM did you know 95 delay and so IBM is still you know far and away the biggest piece I understand but you growth. Well here's the thing though is in order to justify this multiple. They don't have to grow just you know what they've been chaotic world through the roof and I just. It's as of really tough putt the spin on the half of IBM is that this will access them to new growth categories and they'll be the in a really improve their sales. You know I'd I gotta tell you. I think Ginny is too old to be run in this company or disagree with that tech companies ID tech companies need young CEOs I disagree with that. You know I mean look look look at Tim Cook Tim Cook is you know spring chicken he's I think going to be fifty eater 59. You know in the next to you and good example you know so like I don't think you have to be in your thirties and forty or yes. You know well he's not that many more depth and style he was older when he was not a value as of new music kid he started that went into our program. But while I would pick you know some of the some of the again you know I don't know if you need to be in your thirties and forties. But you just need to be good and junior Matt he's just not appeared. To be able to turn the corner for the last five years or a year ago we're going to be a cloud company maybe clout company and then they went on bought clout company. It's just it's an admission of failure. Are you better off financially today then you were when the president was elected a couple years ago that's our whole question you can participate. Designed for those of you who are landlords in used to collector checks with paper checks are gosh maybe still do. Will Z rent allows you'd collect checks electronically. Jail is hoping he could spend a little better time explaining how easy rat works and why it's a big advantage for landlords. Absolutely buried so we we develops the rain to sodomy a hole right because right now. You know with the landlord when you're getting rain checks in the mail it's low it's unpredictable. You're missing envelope line in the post like a waiting human neck get all the rent until the tenth or fifteenth of the month furthermore if your landlord on vacation in your red thing boxed up to what he does is it really digitize they'll. It makes the rent electronic payments it allows for me cheering for multiple roommates and apartments that's great if you're renting at the college student absolutely. Don't we all learned the lesson about polls to 2016. In a new survey says. That a majority of Americans do not feel their financial situation has improved. Since Donald Trump was elected president in 2016. What do the numbers. Yes so this is a poll that was put out. And this was done by Bankrate dot comments of 38% of respondents said their finances have improved. 17%. Since they've gotten worse 45% say. They are about the same. To be completely announced this is about what I would expect to see in this poll. But I and here's why I'm okay I'm busy I'm gonna give the line I can't imagine that this is possible that tell me why you think the numbers that so if we take a look at the number of people if if we look at the the biggest beneficiaries over the last two years okay. It's been people who own stocks. People homes you know people own businesses and cut. No I think sixty what is it what's homeownership is about sixty experts 62% of people who are homeowners a family smoking are homeowners and two years you'd like real states got a lot easier just just hear me out okay I'm a little impatient that I am not done. Okay if we look at business owners the numbers are for a few were OK and if we look at the number of people who own stocks in any meaningful way about 40% OK so when you look at the crossover of old there's areas than I'd expected to be somewhere in this ballpark okay. Simply because there are an awful lot of people. Really are kind of about the same like things have gotten better for them dale but. It's not a meaningful improvement and go to Aruba and it interject here 'cause he said what was the homeownership rates 63 about sixty to 63% are so 62% your home's gone up what about 5% a year the last two you're not selling why do you care. But is still but you're you're better financial situation you're not sitting there saying Jeep I feel so much better you are working idle this same. It isn't you've paid down in two years in every way you can have a mortgage to begin with. Did you do your literally in the exact same situation if you're not selling your house you don't really care at the values now. Would what does this do it in and how does this cut in terms of political party accused Republicans feel better. Then Democrats. Yeah what you see in terms of how that the survey numbers come out. 29% of Democrats think the economy's gotten better 60% of Republicans think that it's gotten better there is a breakdown on party lines. I don't know necessarily why that is obviously mean the of people to a certain extent see what they want to see that we know that with power politics is street today. But I think that when you look at this like expected to be somewhere in the range of forty to 45% because. For most Americans they don't stocks yeah. They don't own businesses they own a home but maybe nothing's changed like that's what you'd expect and then the breakdown yet it shows that you know were clearly a society where. We have different views on what's actually going on. But I wouldn't expect you know. Each year a 100% of people to say hey everything's gotten better because for a lot of people it's kind of the same I'd love to see poll that was done just. Of independent voters. On that. You would be do you think the numbers would be starkly different no you don't know. News dump on Friday afternoon Megyn Kelly. The use no longer associated with NBC. Yeah and that this was it's a story that moved pretty quickly I think was on Wednesday I believe when this all kind of started. And you know making Kelly you remember last year. NBC brought her on board and was gonna pay your 23 million dollars you're 69 million dollars over three years. You know that that kind of deal doesn't handed out easily in today's media environment you know it's it's it's tough to get dollars in any kind of substantial number of European media talent. Well how do you like to be to god made that decision. Because. Her readings. Were worse than the shall reap she replaced law in and I think that when we talk about why she's gone. That's why all you don't think it was the black face common I think what she said was terrible and I think that what she said. Obviously you know something that you just can't say in what. There plenty of networks that have you know. Said OK we'll put on suspension for a few weeks are able to get via the limelight then we'll bring you back up her ratings were good which is why she's gone you can't say what she said but that doesn't change the fact readings were bad to begin with. I think NBC wanted to move on anyways I wonder if it do you think dictator hopefully hero the way how would a compensation deal so be it depends on what's going to happen in terms of what she wants to do afterwards okay. If she doesn't want to. Work right now if she says look I'm I'm stuck at duke they're gonna end up paying her out over time what is she trying to get out from under that contract. If she says look I wouldn't they say couldn't they say well you made a bad comment you broke. A note that was generally know it generally give for something like that you know it's not something where for something happens on air like that Seattle and acts be able to get out the question is if Megyn Kelly wants to go back to work. Then she's going to have to go to NBC and say look I needed to release me from that three year contract you know and that's where they concede where hey we're not gonna pay you out or anything else this. I don't know she's going back to work because she had previously been. Wrecked by Creative Artists Agency in that was her her agent. She fired them or they fired her we don't know she went to united talent. Agency and they fire her. Saying they couldn't make calls on her behalf so I think if ever I wonder if she and talk to that that might my impression when you get fired by your talent agent. Does that mean that you your toxic indeed I mean the fact. Apology the only way they make monies if they can get you a new contract. You're untouchable until you're not. Now OK and in what I mean by that. You remember about a year ago when all of the army to stop with breaking on Harvey Weinstein is Louis CK and all of them CK is back he's he's doing you know stand up again. In in clubs and things like in clubs here but but again it's you don't get right back to the topic you say okay need to rebuild the kind of start over. If he can get back from you know what he did which is far worse than what Megyn Kelly didn't know. There's going to be a path back first question what it is. Please take part in our poll are you better off financially than you were two years ago its financial exchange showed dot com or send us a text message. 63566. Is our text number. Big movers that we have moving in the market in the Red Hat which is obviously being bought by. IBM up nearly 50%. Take two interactive on the other hand down about four point 2% right now. Borg Warner up about 7%. Harris Corp. the on an L-3 also down a little bitsy get a little bit of a sell off happening in defense right now. Now across the board there you know it's curious Jack gives you and I are talking about IBM and I I told you I didn't think much of the dealer was a little bit apprehensive about the deal IBM shares are down 2% on a day when the market's rally. I would make the case that's you know pretty kind of IBM shares only be down that's that's pretty much it's Gerald are saying and we think this is bad but not too bad in tough week for stocks last week were 300 points wine. Just bounced back today I mean again this I don't think you can necessarily glean any you know why is you know this happening today and I think that the issues that will present last week are still present out there now. And this new might be a dead cat bounce might not it's too soon to tell. But I think. You know this is still a market that concerns me over the next couple months here now you will thank goodness who are one week away and are weak and a day. From election. I don't think that's what's play here. You don't know you don't practices. This election jitters don't just what what kind of policy change actually happens as a result of the selection. Either way the game and I'm gonna get the you know I can get. A repeal of the tax bill government. Now that's and hoping something you know good for us might actually happen I know what you mean by good. It looked a lot seen infrastructure deal country's fallen apart physically. I don't know if there's the appetite for one right now that I I I agree I wouldn't know it or the ability to pay for an. I I think that you're going to see in the next year some real questions come into focus as far as how the US is going to have to pay for things don't follow I think. And and again I've been harping on this all year there's some big questions in for me the route out is a cheaper. US dollar. Two point six billion is what we're going to spend on Halloween candy I bought mine yesterday will be given out we got Snickers Milky Way. Tweaks Eminem's star person scales I couldn't help but noticed there were no receipts listed in that that's because we don't give them away Regis well bureau Patrick or traitor I brought out my problem. Not my problem and an NI RLM and m.'s are the most popular. Really. According to rule this route system and it idle leases was the candy store is city compiles data. And does little packets that you give out or twelve cents of eminent Smart. Hershey's snack size are fourteen cents. That's the milk chocolate bar. Reese's peanut butter those are the ones that truck that refuses to give away or nineteen cents. Snickers or twenty cents whose little mini bars and star burst did you are usually start we're given Rosalie 220. Militants are going to buy mine today. And I think my Disco with the eminence the most popular by the way I got away you avoid getting aid. Again to 240 Paxson these and we ended up coming out at just twelve and a half cents per candy unit I guess so you do the variety pack it in a variety pack it up yeah in a hundred new units I was eighty. ED with ADD get that many interpret traders. No idea tibia first year after treating put this yeah. Our old neighborhood we didn't get any the new one I'm not optimistic but you always want to be prepared because you don't wanna be that house that it doesn't have anything we have a long driveway so the cancer. Usually in and we live on a busy street so we don't get. World were on a busy street kind of an intersection so not sure what were what to what we're going to get but I always say look. The worst thing you can do would have as a party is run out of food the and you know how we it's it's a party you don't wanna run out of food who wanted to maintain your weight. Tom after Halloween bring the candy into the office and you know. Yeah that's a good point and that'll hold you over until Thanksgiving and Christmas related to his old man it is just facts season is in the candy like 50% off the next day to better. That's a good. It's I do that was my Christmas lights every arrived by in the day after Christmas right of restores trying to unload Missouri it's like oh hundred lights early in oh a dollar actually planning ahead for next year now it's it's great. As the housing markets day dates American homeowners are staying put this is a real interest in story. You know. You go back to 2000. The average home transaction. Eased to hold your home for about four years talking across the country. You know you'd you'd buy a house. Well your first Condit how long did you and that. Bought it in July of thirteen sold it in July of seventeen so for years and that was the average. The Golan back in in time now people are hold their homes whole lot longer twice as. Yet the average of eight point 23 years according to analysis for Adam data solutions. They have data going back to 2000 and pretty much as as you mentioned. From 2000 through kind of 09 mountain people on on average it was say every four years kind of moving on. Whether that was you know because they were moving up to a different home whether it was because they are moving to a different part of the country that was the average that you saw. The averages you know again pretty consistently increased now up to that eight and a quarter years. And there's a couple reasons for the us. You deuce to this this is amazing to me by the way. 2.2 million homeowners are still underwater on their mortgages now steel which is which is. Just don't unbelievable to see. At this point another 550000. Only a 5% equity you're less meaning that if they sold the property that transaction Costin and have to eat some by paying them out. But that's still only a small portion. Of the overall housing market I think the big thing there's a lot of people like you know where you know hey there in their fifties or sixties and their sane. Yeah we're just not gonna move that's. That is what's happening I can tell you baby boomers across the region are looking at their situation and they're saying. Why should I sell my nice home right Julie I've got good memories and joy of raising my family here. And I'll just you know at their regular news. We just did this the other because of the heat right we we closed four of the veterans we have five bedroom house we close off a didn't. Turn the heat off in those four bedroom yet started we down shut off. And we basically. Live in a few rooms in the house yeah this big old house but nobody you know me the eased somewhat you know it is well you could you could McGee the you can't if you sell chock. You can't buy anything that is livable. In in our paint yes they meet we just can't get anything where we sit well it's a nice place or if he don't forget to take part in our whole its financial exchange showed dot com is your financial situation. Better since the 2000 election I voted on this and I said absolutely yes. Voted yes while 86 point 4%. Of our listeners are saying yes their financial situation is better. 13%. Are saying no which is contrary. To the national poll that was done by Bankrate Bankrate dot com says only 38% of Americans feel they're better off I I I really question their polling methodology how can. Think even if you're low paid worker lets say your foot Amber's right. We are making a lot more money today than you were two years ago. You orbit maybe your expenses of Ghana Ethiopia that you went from seven bucks an hour eight bucks an hour and dynamic in which it would it would say entry level wage forget minimum right. But wages. For that low paid workers are gonna dramatic source. I saw fascinating had the other day actually it was for overnight shifts in now one of Amazon's warehouses in San Francisco let me guess. Let me guess the wage at 2218. Eighteen aunts prices actually in the ATP rate downtown is it is going to be out on so I'm sure it's not downtown action. But here in that re well last year we saw the ads in new England and they were running fifteen. Analysts think sixty degrees I'll never let me know it's Mauritania was on on on the pike it was a night shift yeah but it 1625. You know like I look and. I I start looking for stories. The night before the show usually around 6 o'clock and I saw the story. As a relates to credit card issuers. Now there's nobody that knows more about the health of the financial the American consumer and credit card company and talking about companies like. Well you know capital wondered discover. Why did they know more what they have to deal they need to know when to stop issuing credit cards they need to know. When you're about to lose your job and not being able in you're not going to be able to make those credit card payments. It pretty good at what they do they wouldn't be as big as they aren't as successful as there are they work at it with they do. And chuck they have come out and said yeah where where little nervous about the economy going forward. And we're actually gonna start limiting our credit card issuance Edwards start. Maybe even is taking somebody has a 5000 dollar bounce that there are eligible to use and reducing it to 3000 dollars they see something. Coming to towards us that maybe the rest of us are missing. Yeah and so what you have here is Capital One Financial and Discover Financial Services both said last week that they're becoming more cautious about how they're handling and credit either a reducing credit limits for people that have outstanding lines on credit cards in being. Also tightening lending standards for new credit card issuance is well on both of these are BO kind of implying. Kate we know that things are okay right now the world little concerned about consumers' ability to repay debts in the future and so we want to get ahead of it. And make sure that we are in a place where we're not putting ourself and you know in the pats for freight train if something's coming down the road there. This to me along with it. What we got from third quarter GDP last week. There are signs that something is coming you know give it there is something out there and I think a lot of lenders know what you're starting to see lenders take action here and I wouldn't be surprised if you get more data in the next three to four months. That kind of backs this up. Amazon's stock holders had a tough day on Friday where and be talking about Amazon.com. We're going to be talking about their share price. Hi everybody it's Barry Armstrong and potluck ski from the legal exchange showed dot com we're talking about. Cushing and old guy of the month October called Medicaid income trusts. Todd I have to confess the average person. Is not going to know win the trust documents they have are right or wrong the need to rely on whoever their tourney would be. What should they be looking for when selecting an attorney to draft. A Medicaid. Income trust or an asset protection trust you know their I think that's the best question ever because you're right they don't know much as we try to educate them. It's just too hard the language is too technical and and and people aren't gonna know one way or another so when you're looking to hire a lawyer to do this. I think one you should find out if they spend a 100% of their time. To winning the state plan he taxes estates trusts you know that's. If they're busy running their personal injury court we can't keep opera you know it's hard enough for me to keep up. And I door all the time. Also make sure on their car when you get their card to use the letters LL AM after their name. That usually means that they have a masters in legal letters and taxation mean certainly need that need to understand taxes when you're drafting trust you do unfortunately that from personal experience. And lastly I would say when you leave the meeting you know what you wanna have a flat feet. Regular note it's gonna cut you don't wanna be billed you know by the hour for this work exactly and when you leave that you had a great understanding of what was done you're not asking more questions. Then when you came in. Good advice from Todd let's keep you'd like to copy of their October guide regarding Medicaid income trust you can call them told free. 866. 8485699. So we Amazon's stock on Friday took a pretty good pit crews that it down to 10%. In that ballpark I can't remember exactly what it was but somewhere went from him about 18100 shared down to give below sixteen C -- about 89%. Down again today yup 1% get it EU in I looked at their numbers I said. But they're grown it like 29% how how can you be so critical to a company's it's grown when he 9%. It's the its concern on margins in certain areas there that they had margins that held up in parts of their business but. You know not the whole thing and in the problem is if your margin start to show signs of weakness. You know the the very small profitability that they have becomes threatened and in particular. On the cloud side things you know that's that's the question that I think they're facing is. You know the cloud side of their businesses facing some competition not a ton at this point their game now Sauna that's relatively stable. But that the big retailers on the retail side that's where you're seeing pricing pressure is targets being now headed of wal mart's being more competitive. Let's not only that chuck he's the workers are saying hey man you wanted to show up and work in a warehouse which is tough job or ia by any standard working you if you work you know and Amazon were how's your walk or walking. Eight to ten miles a shift I think that last time I ransoms like the new workers are really put in a lot of physical effort yup you gotta pay me. And they're demanding. A lot more than minimum wage where is five years ago. Amazon those things sweatshops they treated their workers terror iPad I'm not sure they treat their workers any better today is that there. It's at least pain that. One in you've got cost going up for shipping and I mean it's it's you have cost going up and it's unclear if Amazon can continue to pass on higher cost to. There and users in the problem there. Is that you know but they still are soul convenient to use to you like. Like I I must confess. If I just need something quick like same battery charger war. Trying to think I needed chocolate yesterday. And so I went. You can buy as they needed I just audience shot I you can buy twelve of the you know the big Linz chocolate bars a share. You by twelve goes. For thirty bucks. On that a good deal I don't know where I am I I'm not sure if it's a good deal but I you know EU. It's hard to find. Right that 90% drop. It's hard line it is. But it all the stores are sold out his advice and hey that's me that's. Big debt that's it's so convenient. You know Williams. Well they become the market knows that they haven't looked that they're not going anywhere any time soon again lake we're talking about this with a company that's still growing in almost 30% Europe for years so. Rumors of their demise are greatly exaggerated. Having said that rule there are some cracks that are appearing where you say. Gee if they can't raise prices. What was once profitable might suddenly turn on profitable discuss the margins are so thin on the retail side to begin with him in if they get more competition coming on the clock outside. Car outside world profits. You know it's funny you mention this because I don't know if you remember Tucker but John Mooney said this about six months ago John Mooney said look Amazon's a great company. But he didn't own the stock and said the reason I don't own the stock is I can't figure out what it's worth. You know it like eight you just it was impossible for John. To put evaluation. On Amazon's stock he just said. Look I have no doubt that they're going to be a juggernaut company in ninety great company to work forward providing great service to keep down inflation all that stuff all that the you know that's all good yep but he said trying to figure out the stock price. He said EU have defeated they're gonna grow at 30% a year for thirty years in order to an estimate that stock. Indian in the big thing is that where we've come to now is were a year later that is I sold a bunch in my Amazon's stock of votes. Eight or nine months and I remember and I I've gotten back in in the last week so you know it's good that we're talking about this here. And the reason why is simply there's a clear path now to the valuation that they have. All compared to where it was the year Coca you've seen again if 30% growth is being exodus is there and say gee there's a chunk of risk that's off the table. There's still a whole lot that's laughs okay. But you sit there and you say what this company is going to be doing of 200 billion dollars and revenue. The trading four times revenue now it's a much clearer path then you know eight months ago when they were trading six times revenue needs and they're going. And they'll Freddie Mac or I he's revenue. In a business with. Low to negative margins aren't they got some stuff they lose they still lose money yeah I mean it's it's estimated on the retail side their business there it depends on the quarter but there anywhere between one and 5% margins in general that's where they'd they tend to lift his right on that edge there and the big thing is the cloud side and on their cloud computing business in their still in that thirty to 40% range in a lot of different category than all the. Companies that they compete with their coming in and saying hey we're coming match right age you've got IBM Microsoft. We have a lot of numbers in the ski area. Well we you know what the the even if they just hit him on the edges on the margins right. If Microsoft steals from business with them from them if HP oracle and it just seems like everybody's got their New Year's tar Amazon in their target sites. It doesn't matter until does temple when it does it's gonna matter being. The Dow is up 278. Points were having one heck of a rally on Wall Street was a tough week last week printed. Well it really is a challenge because you don't have the fixed income options that we used to CDs bonds that were yielding 567%. That does not here anymore and wanted to take our treasuries like 310. In one of the real challenges I think is being able to keep up with inflation if you're an instruments that are always yielding two or 3% and so the conventional wisdom is hey you take your rates attractive from a hundred and that's how much equity exposure you should have I don't know that necessarily holds true for everyone today simply because if you in a portfolio that sixty or 70% bonds I think you might struggle with keeping up with inflation over the next couple decades what about factoring in what you're living expenses are how does one do that yet to make sure the have a budget put together before handed figuring out what you actually need and what your retirement looks like it's a big thing that you need to figure out are you gonna move to lower cost of living area of the certain expenses that falloff those are things they go into the. You're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city. Your world stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. Well the Dow is up 275. Points today but I'll tell you it's been kind of a tough year for those of you who own stocks. What do the numbers on a year to date basis so we take a look at the major US indices and I'm looking at what we called the total return number which also factors Ian any dividends that you may have received from stocks in those indices. The Dow factor in dividends is up one point 65% for the year. The NASDAQ is up three point 82 the S&P is up point 98 in that is factoring in dividends if you don't factor men both the Dow and S&P. Are negative for the year than nasdaq's still slightly. In positive territory. But the Russell 2000 is underwater by two and a half percent the mid caps the S&P midcap 400 underwater by four and a half percent. Right now and I was looking at this earlier today there's a great tweet that I saw. That reference this only 20%. Of all asset classes are in positive territory for the year right now. The only other two times that we have seen that not in the last fifty years. Early 1970s when we as stagflation global financial crisis 2000 not in 2008 and so this is not a lake you don't wanna be comparing yourself to 1972 and 2008 it's not feeling that's not really what you wanna be doing. Now maybe it's. You know when I look at stocks there's part of me that says when he look. Pretty attractively priced it like and I'm speaking not just domestically but especially on a global. I was looking at like international stocks track. Maybe they're cheaper now than they've been in here they look attractive if you think growth is gonna continue. Now that's the only way for it's it's what it comes down to end and the market is saying growth is not gonna continue and that's why do and I don't think it's saying that yet. You know what I talk about you know 10% correction it you see those ever sixteen to seventeen months those in my opinion when you see corrections it is the market testing as to whether or not future growth is gonna be enough. To continue on the path they've been on. Eight to nine out of ten times market bounce back it's as we tested this the growth is okay Perry on it and what we saw earlier this year were still in that testing out phase right now where the market is sadness and they have a book and see where the growth is going to be show me something and then maybe we can move on at this point I think that question is still unanswered as to whether or not. It's there are many of us were flabbergasted. When we saw the results of the poll done by Bankrate dot com who's pretty reputable. Only 38% of Americans say their finances have improved since the 2016. Elections according to a study relief was released on Thursday by bankrupt. While 17%. Say they've gotten worse and 45%. They're safe they're about the same. Now I'd look at different barometers I consider stock. Prices stock prices are up and you've had two more years to contribute to your 401K you should have more in your 401K. Today in had two years ago. Real estate values or how much across the country it's an essay about 5% over the last couple years yes 5% a year your way. And during that two year period time we should have paid down some of the debt on your mortgage there's another factor that would lead me to believe you're better off financially than you were two years ago then the third factor. Is simply wage wages are increased as well we're starting to see wage growth in that 3% rate inched up yet. Most Americans say and and I only only thirties and there are better you can participate mightily in our poll we want to hear we have to sail on this topic. You can participate in our poll by visiting financial exchange showed dot com or you can text us. Send us a text message or text number 63566. Remember to put my first name at the beginning of your text message. Let's talk about caregivers in this is a field that is going to experience. Tremendous. Growth. Over the next 1020. Maybe even thirty years. Why a lot of baby boomers that are old and they're gonna need help for a. The house. Yeah that the big problem that I think we're gonna have as we try to figure out what the path forward is for caring for this generation that is aging not into retirement but through retirement right. The question is going to be. How do you make the job of caring for the eight paying off. I think to be able to Reno attract people into that business. It in beat. You know how do you effectively just managed the sheer numbers. Of people that we're gonna be seen coming and I just. There is a wave coming in I don't know if we've ever had the. To deal with something like that Zelaya out of this scale so I don't think we have they're expecting shocked. Home care. Is going to require one point two million. Additional workers on top of what they have now right you have a lot of retirements between now on 20/20 61 point two million needed by 20/20 six. And it doesn't lead to your point doesn't pay well it's only like an eleven dollar an hour job. No would you eat it doesn't pay well and I think. You know what's what's really interesting to me is to kind of look at where we've come from Ian kind of this would be in in dealing with the the problem of aids then. Is this kind of a new issue with on two fronts number one if people living longer a case that means that they. You know a greater percentage of people are gonna run into something that doesn't kill them but requires them to have care. You know it used to be if you go back to you know the 40s50s and sixties. You didn't have a ton of people that needed this level of care is most the time. Whatever happened to them usually they were dying anyways and they didn't have this level. Not that disability and navy's live for ten years in that state know its seeds in the medical advance of gunned the port read and keep people live now but we don't. Really have a system are awaited take care of the measly. And the problem I think is compounded by the fact that in today's world. In so many families. Both spouses have to work in order to make ends meet and so you end up in a situation where you know family member can't be that person caring it'll. What about assisted living facilities because that's it that's an alternative they you know of going through this with family members now where you know there's they're selling their house. Right and their buying a unit in assisted living that I cost depending on where you are. But that's about 4500000. Dollars but if you have equity in your home viewing your home outright you can afford that. But then you're looking at the the cost for this couple is 6300. Dollars a month. I really question how many retirees can afford. 6300. Dollars a month every month he would not not that many giving me no fail we don't have that much in gross income. No and in and it's in in particular what you're still gonna see is you know so many people in the really it's it's Generation X. and kind of the beginning part of the millennial generation. Are going to be in situations where they're having to care for parents but also still having kids in their teens and a lot of cases. So what do you he's gonna do you gonna like have your folks move in with you where you gonna pay the assisted living facility yourself lately K. I you know I'm not I'm not joking about this this is a serious issue. That colonials are gonna have to take care no idea boomers we're going to be. You know we're we're going to be the ones that need taken care. No idea I I I have no idea how to deal with no easy solution is there. No it's it's easy where it would need to implement where you say you've got two options. You have care for the yourself now. Or spend money so someone else paerson relate either way you think there's no easy way to deal with it because the nursing homes are close. We've seen a wave of nursing home posters because they're saying hey the government regulations and this is you know this. It's it's a fascinating topic and I'm not an expert on it but you look at the reason nursing homes are close. We you close your business because you're not making any money right. Right and and the government says will you must have this many nurses the you must have this many doctors you must have this type of or will the government regulation. Is driving up the cost and understand the logic behind it right it it's kind of like daycare maybe in a lot of government regulation involved a daycare. Because a kid dies with syncing and nursing a senior citizen dies in the government feels the need to say. Well you must have this type of care available you must adhere to these regulations. And then eventually. These nursing homes say. They will be waived the weight fly they just say this like look we're done I talked to felt we have a client who who used to run health care facility. He said Perry you know you have no idea. What kind of margin compression we've experienced in the last one. Users want in in in looking at this overall don't get me wrong beat these are good problems to have because the the duke upside of this is look. If people just you know pass away. Then like you don't have to deal with this problem but no one wants that you want your loved ones is pass away it's okay we need to figure out how to care for so it's it's a good problem but there's no easy answers because of how we've. Built. Both the system right now that cares for people as they age and the fact that. Many families they can't take enough time off to care for these elected to care for. Folks who need it you know in their families it's word we're just not. Built in today's society to deal with these problems in that risk is gonna be present whether or not we build systems to fix this or not. And instinct topic that would require much more time in research we can solve this in ten minutes. Now. Then things. They when we come back. We're gonna tell you how to get your wife pregnant. Is that factory rate we're gonna do this is the worst segment and cover up this this is the worst segment ever he this he'll leave the studio. This is all about improving your likelihood quit of get and the wife pregnant. I don't we knew chuck and I'm talking generally did two team to go to to quietly for a little while the worst. IIIDD. Users of sites so it this is a day where we're giving you a lot of web sites and apps that are very important. This one you can actually make money. Users of different web sites. Are delivering goods between countries and they get paid for. He's you read this or is it true that I did some would say it's a company called rapper GE. Claim that they have 500000 worldwide users and what they do is they allow shoppers to request international deliveries and pretty much that the benefit to this it's not so much in the US. Not at this point as far as you know why you'd have you know wide you wanna be user know about thinking about my recent trip I went to Europe recently yeah Paris yeah I could have signed up for the us and I made a couple hundred bucks yet they they pretty much find people who are you know going to be traveling back and forth between different countries. And say hey do you mind bringing something back you know got to be the right country. Well are gonna be gone elect. If you're going to South America you make a lot of money you're going to Europe you can make a lot of money and in pretty much it's a way that we have shoppers try to avoid neo customs. It's not something I mean I think part of it is. You know there's obviously legal ways to do this they're very illegal ways and they're certainly not trying to find illegal ones as followers he had you now they pedals are the kind of well. It is eerie yet they're trying to ask. The customs duties so give me an example. You wanna buy an iPhone in Paris it's gonna be. Let's say 400 dollars more to bite in Paris than it is in the United States yeah so what you do is you buy that brand new iPhone. In New York wherever you live. You take it out of the package and you make it look like it's used even though it isn't it's a brand new product. And then you transported to Europe and the person who hired you in Europe says okay here's your 200 euros or whatever you agree on. No compensation in Uganda over the phone. So how is the site not shut down the the him government's not on period that bank debt that's how it works I mean. The IR read the whole story and that it and there's this is the only one. But some of the countries like if you look at Argentina Brazil only Sharjah. Huge tariff on an American technology loaded. They do and and so we have some of these and again when your in some of these countries I think there was the situations where a lot of people turned this not so much. Hey you know between more developed countries better OEM agreements and so. Forced right it's not Americans know are in its Americans being hired or PS leaving from America. They coming up we'll have trivia for you and I'll take a look at some your text messages that's next on the financial exchange. No. Hi everybody it's Berrian chuck from the financial exchange you were having a conversation today. Regarding retirement income and chuck it strikes me you know we go to work every day we put money and are 41 K plans typically it's going into. Mutual funds or exchange traded funds that we're using to accumulate wealth. During our working years are higher earning years. That whole equation changes once we retire and we hit age 6570. And we say cheeks and a gun I need to take some income from powerful. Yeah it it really does change and specifically war go to Morgan income generation mindset and it's difficult today because if you look at a lot of the ways that people historically did that CDs yielding 5%. Bonds yielding five or 6% her you don't have those tools available anymore C need to make sure that you're still adapting your portfolio to the new demands of retirement. But you need to make sure that using the right instruments and so that can be combination of dividend paying stocks. It can be equities that you simply think gonna grow and pull little principal off there as well last in the right mix of bonds they can generate some income as well. What about municipal bonds at something of people use. It is of particular fewer in a high income bracket it's something that a lot of people use that we tend to target simply because the tax efficiencies you gain there can be significant if you like it. A regional lead singer and again text number 63566. China regulators. Are proposing a 50%. Cut to the car purchase tax. Yeah right now the four cars that have engines that are no bigger than one point six leaders are currently subject to wait 10%. Tax Chinese regulators talking that bring that down 5% in order to spur. Economic activity so you're starting to see. The Chinese Government really over the last couple weeks they've done a couple things on the lending side with banks and so forth. But they're trying to take action over the last few weeks to try to spur economic activity we sell more cars in China than any other country and they do it's it's simple but I don't have the exact numbers for last time I looked at 120 million or so all nine innings on Monday it's in that 1819 million. And we're running in 1617. So let's see have got production here when we see if I can pull ourselves in look forward if you can mean it's. Beat the stock market in China took another tumble got a so last year was 24 point 520 poor. Four point seven gone in passenger vehicles that Bruce there's a few years ago where they surpassed us in it was an additional four point 16 million commercial vehicles. So it's about 29 million total. In the when he seventeen thing about chuck who. If it couldn't have been more than five years ago was they just took started selling more cars they passed a suit looks like was twenty elevenths about seven years ago actually is when they passed us but here you wanna see a fascinating one. 2008. They sold six point seven million vehicles in China in two years later was thirteen point seven they doubled sales in two years. It's one don't know how viable that is long term. Based on the density of their population you don't automobile travel I think we're learning that the United States. Is it our major cities are clause because of cars. Long term if if the solution out of this is a combination of city design a new building cities that are easy to get around by four. Mass transit and and you know alternative. Means of you know personal transportation like bikes and scooters and stuff that's that's how you get rid of traffic otherwise but carpooling and that doesn't do enough now. Does it's it's just so when you talk about traffic the thing that's fascinating about it is it's really it's it's geometry project in if you are an individual that's driving in a car OK average US cars about eighteen feet long it's about six feet wide so if you look at it's about you know a 110 square feet is how much space you take up when you're in a car and 210. Even if you carpal we get four people in there you're still like 2728. Square feet per person. Which is why when you talk about bikes and scooters and walking. You downed it you know you can go you know four feet neither direction or Dallas fifteen or sixteen square feet boss is the best rebounder look pretty much you know eight to nine square feet per person and that's where you wanna get too so. It's it's really a geometry problem and cars just. Not efficient. You need to be careful about Medicare part BY. If you miss the age cutoff which is 65 by the way folks. You get penalized in a big way for having missed out on that Medicare. Print the way it works is. The eve you have. Basically six votes before you turn 65 yet to enroll in a Medicare part B. If you miss it and some people do you've got hundreds of thousands of Americans who have missed the cut off yet and are paying a penalty as a consequence. Yen it it's something that again if you wore me out kinda getting towards that point. Do you need to make sure that year year cognizant of this simply because right now. If you're signing up for part B cost 134 month right now it's going up to 13550. And so. You know you do need to make sure that you're signing up if you end up with that penalty OK for each year that you delay. Medicare adds a permanent 10% penalty your premiums so few million right so imagine why somebody wouldn't. I I think in a lot of cases it might be ignorance is no pages they did in announcing that lake in a derogatory when saying they don't know you always retire once you don't know it's not like something you do every year and so he just might say gee Ed I don't know whether I had a job and I'm Sam working for IBM murder and and and on 66 years old and have benefits in there I don't pay the penalty. No it's if if you are you know working there you might not need RP in some cases though it might make sense because you part B coverage might end up being cheaper actually. Then what you have your work depending on how much right offices covering in some cases it might actually be beneficial for you go on Medicare as opposed to keeping your current plan. Folks amazingly over 20% of Americans have saved nothing for their retirement. Imagine that your 65 and haven't saved in nickel hopefully not you listening today here in that boat. But whatever you've saved for retirement I like to help devise a strategy that allowed you to enjoy your later years. You know when Toys 'R' Us shuttered their stores and went bankrupt a lot of investors. Missed the idea that companies like Hasbro and tell. We're going to be devastated by the bankruptcy. Again in the big thing is just eight you had you know these these key senators for distribution recent okay this where we can consistently rely. You know for movies are soft and our sales we know what we're gonna do we you know we know the people that were working with there they understand our business we understand there's. And so that's given up. The other piece that you have here is that with those stores no longer present it's not so much that consumers are just turning and saying do we go by the same toys somewhere else and their overall behavior patterns are changing you know when that local Toys 'R' Us store isn't there anymore. You know instead of just walking in and you know saying Ocalan to find what's you know kind of in the hot sector also forced them. It's hey maybe I'm just Google around on line in instead of getting recommendations for you know that the big name toys that they've gotten previously. Maybe there's new toys that are out there than stay where data tracked in the or they just don't buy anything that's. Gonna say I think Peters because when I walked in toy store. There's a lot of impulse buying going on is there a hall an awful you know because if you are you buying stuff like you to see my grandpa you're gonna bring kids. What's great but I am definitely gave more toys in the note to do it but I think people are probably. Consuming less because. In a Toy Story if your grandparent in a toy store you walk out with Wayne Morse stuff. Then you plant you never Bly just what you want to know. Apps that give it to meet its impostor actually required you buy more than you planned it is it is I I'm. It's it's so I think that the demise of Toys 'R' Us. If I wonder that has a permanent effect on that industry. You know meant that your Mattel's senior has for us and I know they used to make a lot of their money off the movies unity EE Hasbro would make a lot of money. Because they would have the franchise rights for frozen and some of the desert other blockbusters. I would imagine that after it might take a year to to sort out new behavioral patterns in things like that. They're Smart enough to figure out what do you think Micah target or Wal-Mart. Can develop the because they don't they just don't have as robust a toy section as toys are so I know that target as recently as a couple months ago so that they were going to be investing and trying to build more on that side. Wal-Mart is well but I I don't. Don't remember firmly targets as pretty good actually is it like today. Please I saw like ten miles toys and games and everything like that did you him for. That's not their primary if they're gonna add to that rule. They're gonna take up that image looks like Wal-Mart is expanding their toys sent section for the holidays it looks like this is something. That they did announced back in. At end of August Syria about two months security did it they new Toys 'R' Us was done via an in the other thing that's not uninteresting is they also the extended aid looks like a bigger lay away program for. The holidays coming as well also looks like that's something that they're doing to. Up next we're going to be joined by Emmy hall we're going to be doing a review of the Jeep Wrangler. Rubicon the Tony eighteen Jeep Wrangler rubicon will also announce the winner and the answer torture of the question. The financial exchange.
