This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chunks of you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day you're sick leave your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. We have evidence that the American economy is considerably stronger than what is being reported by the media we also will be talking about. Why as Saudi journalist's disappearance could cause your home heating oil bills to increase. Hi everybody it's very truck with you here it's a busy Monday morning. And you don't chuck we talk about GDP we talk about unemployment we talk about wage growth. Say what you wanna really track of the strength of the American economy. There's one statistic in my opinion. That really demonstrates just how strong things are yeah it in this statistic here is Rick really again it's it's pretty simple and pretty straight forward. But it is. What are people spending at a restaurant right at it in honor relative base it in the reason why is because restaurants are a discretionary purchase the not something you need to go out. Not in by like most things where someone provide service to you. Typically cost about three times what it would cost you to do that same thing yourself so. Generally I assume OK so let's say that I'm going out. And I want to get a cheaper that probably cost me about two dollars to make that cheeseburger myself when you factor in OK got to by the beef by got a by the book. The whole thing. You go out to five guys can cost you 68 dollars it's near a three to four times as much just like any other service that you need. Don't four if you go to paint the room let's say that I want to pay my dining room when I did earlier this year. I pain it myself cost me about a 180 dollars to do so between the paint supplies and everything like that. If I win hired someone to paint that room 600 probably 6800 dollars you know so there in general. A purchase like this when you're going out to dinner and when people go out to dinner on a more regular basis. It's a sign and a feel comfortable I can I can do that. If money is tight. They don't do that as much we saw that back in 20082009. We saw restaurant sales Paul he's an awful lot of restaurants go out of business during that time. Just because they couldn't get enough people. Coming in to see the well let's reflect on what the numbers were between August of 27 team in August of 2018. Food and drink purchased outside the home. Increased by ten point 1% I have never seem to stack that strong knows a good number what's what's interest and then is that we just got the number. For the September. Retail sales numbers in that was disappointing we actually saw a decline of one point 8%. On this fraud for the month. And now it just seven point 1% CU you'll get that he says okay maybe that 10% number is a little bit of an aberration there. Just because that was the fastest pace of restaurant sales growth mean when he five years so you're talking. You know effectively over a generation. Go back to 1990 that's the fastest pace that we had seen there. It does look like that's not sustainable and in and I don't really think he has. But the question is if we get the September number you know down one point 8%. You see that you say to that that doesn't quite. Paint the same picture here and we need to see a couple more months to see if that's the start of a new trend. But that would not be promising if that were advocates. Tucker I don't know about you but I turned on my heat yesterday. Did you really I absolutely. And soft and he gets off the air I am getting soft and I am I'm happy dude minute idea and I walked downstairs. And by looting was 57 degrees now. Just thrown a sway other that's nothing my parents talked to her and often turn on the heat and bring it up because. There is a concern I think it's a valid concern that this dispute that we seem to be entering with Saudi Arabia. Could cause energy prices to spike quite dramatically explain why. So this actually I think could be bigger thing than just energy prices this this has the potential if if it spirals the wrong way. To end up with a complete restructuring of world markets. Pretty much what happened is last week there was this journalist. For the Washington Post Jamal to Shockey. Who disappeared while he was in Turkey. The Turkish government suggests and provided you know some evidence saying hey we think that he was killed and dismembered inside the Saudi embassy in our country they know which rooms whose dismembered it will that's what they say okay. The them number of members of the US government have pretty much back the Turkish stores saying hey this is what we think happened is well. And then you have the Saudi government saying well we don't know anything about as we near we didn't do anything we don't we don't know what's going on. The really known nothing that the reason why they're sergeant Schultz and in we know we are. The reason why this has the potential to be really disruptive. Is twofold number one obviously Saudi Arabia is the biggest oil producer in the world no case of they've they are the biggest and they of the low cost producer as well. And they can take. They they can lower worldwide production by as much as 10% if they chose if they want it to be innate could cause prices while I could cause prices that. Because there's a short term legacy prices double. Now that if if they said were poorly Goldman Sachs and Goldman Sachs for reports and you know we you could see 200 dollar oil if if Saudi Arabia want it to sustain. Well I doubt they would be inflicting. A tremendous amount of pain on themselves if they did. They went mean again that when you talk about the economy of Saudi Arabia. It is oil there on this campaign to try to divert gas and so forth that they are. The they are in an oil economy and Eric Petro state that is what they do. So the first concern is hey you know if they wanted to date could potentially say look we're gonna pull 56 million barrels of oil off you know off the market right now. And potentially spike I don't know if that's necessarily what they in the doing well why would they do let's talk about what we eat it if if there's a conclusion. That they murdered this journalist shot up. What would our response be released and while we're knock him silly the armaments with her in I don't know it it could be you know that 350 billion dollar arms deal could be something that's talked about there could be financial sanctions it could be a whole bunch of different things. The reason why this is really important of Cain and this is not just looking at Hayward gas price is going to be over the next twelve months. Saudi Arabia for the last forty years has been the reason why the US dollar has bow now okay. The reason why is because back in 1973 after the knicks and shot back in 71. The US went to Saudi Arabia says hey look we wanna make a deal where we are going. To effectively have the Beryl have a barrel oil priced in US dollars that's going to be only weak entry. Saudi Arabia because they were the world's largest producer one of the world's largest producers. Said we can get them or that gives us a guaranteed market for our product gives us stability and the US said hey now people need to buy US dollars and that's why the dollar remained. The world's reserve currency for the last forty years. If Saudi Arabia says gee we see where the puck is going in we see that China's go and all of a sudden BR biggest buyer over the next twenty years. Plus you're saying you wanna sanction us for something that we may or may not have done it. I don't know what'll happen I think it's likely that Saudi Arabia probably did something Utley here's the thing. Turkey's not really someone you can trust either on well and early in the way we treat it like beat we do business with a lot of bad actors but but yours is like. Turkey just two years ago Witten murdered a whole bunch journalists themselves also in general the whole bunch of professors in a crackdown themselves so you certainly don't. I don't know like. You pretty much give me bad a bad beef and what what elections Russia does the same thing exactly so. There's a whole bunch is now keep in mind the Russian model is is kind of the when you look at receipt GB sanction them for similar things you know you talk about like the magnets the act and things like that. Those are the exact kinds of things that this is built to deal with so I. I look at this nicely look at the US says they were gonna sanction you and pull back from this Saudi Arabia might say. You know what. We're gonna move away pricing oil in dollars were gonna go away and find you know but at different trading partner so that residents in between Iraq and art places. Yes did you take these. He's damned if he does and he and he does yes they there is no right answer on this is and that's why no one wants the job of being pressed the play good this this is something that no matter what the president decides is going to have big implications for where things go in the future is if he says look. Saudi Arabia didn't do anything where I can do anything. Hate that pretty much gives them cart and audio isn't gonna go to what gives that it gives Saudi Arabia or plots to go do whatever they want to have been doing it did just that and much more quietly. Exactly. China does this Russia does this Turkey like not you they don't make a list of the countries that. Partake a whole bunch of them. But the like this is just a blatant in your face thing and that's that's the difference I think in this cases this is one work Turkey allegedly has it on video. There's there's all kinds that it may release that you know there's there's one rumor that's going around that was from an and the reason that I stated even though it's somewhat of a rumors because its from bill brouder who was. You know very prominent in actually passing the magnets the act who said look it was actually recorded from his I watched. Currently in the yeah audio recordings that way so. Who knows what's going on here but this has the potential to be a huge. Mess up well will you can't overstate. It's via the issue that you should be concerned about hoaxes you turned your heat on this weekend most of the and oil trading at 71 dollars a barrel and you know you're gonna get a delivery of home heating oil some time in the next 4560 days woody and beat pain for. I don't know the answer to that. They when we come back we're take. Topic but that's a little bit later will be talking about your family pets how much less is this really Leiter who co I think. Well it's the cost of amateurs you know net that would pets are expensive that's next company to expect. We wanna hear from you. Tech Steward Barry's 263566. And let us know what you think about the stories we discuss your team to the financial exchange radio live. Stuck with the Barry Armstrong injustice done it's the financial exchange on the financial exchange radio network. Selling pet. Products to human beings is big business that's according to all sold New York Times last year according to the American pet product association. Owners spent nearly seventy. Billion dollars on their pets. We're nuts with a lot of money we're not so the big part of our GDP we spend on. Pets by one estimate owner spent 9000. To more than thirteen thousand dollars. For medical treatments over their pet's lifetime. But anyway you'd take your dog to the vet to get their shots and get their teeth checked in there the whole bit. It's 400 bucks know every time you know you know physicals for running close to two and now it's crazy it's it's a lot of money. He. A it doesn't it seems like pets have replaced. Kids it's. All absolutely right people absolutely rather have a dog or cat. Then there which really understand. But some people like when he's a pet is like training wheels for kids which if you if you missed it don't Braden let you that you might as well like it has dom at least have like. And again I'm gonna point to myself some obviously paragon of virtue here. I say look no I don't want something's gonna hold back from going on vacation right now cost me a whole bunch of money make me go to the doctor I don't want that right now. OK so my wife I said we are not getting a dog into we have kids because we don't want anything holding us back that is a pure view right there would like a tap or ways that we obligated dog Europe and it did -- get the dog right after. No we're only get a dog our don't wait. Never get a dog right when you get a kid as a get it would never get a dog right when you have acute worst tickets and why is that is that dog is gonna die when you just ten minutes can be devastating for them to Canada you always get the dog either waive the force of the dies when they're like three and they can't remember where you get the dog way after so dies in the late eighteen and there's been. Developed enough that they can. Crossed yeah I mean as I says now I probably get a dog. You know north when our child you know 56 and one area that never get a dog at the same time you have a kid because that dog will guide you know. Late worst possible time for that kid yet all right so we gonna do. You eat you take your dog to that and not get that 200 dollar bet bill. And then of that Tokyo earlier your dog's neck cancer. Right we have to woody liquidate were talking prime age sex and they're six years old sister and finally got really Smart and acute. And the operations and costs by. I mean depends on the financial situation as you know mom. Yeah that's tough it's tough it's I'm gonna think about. And sorry go funding page idea I've been there I've been parents the couple different occasions and you end up spending money oh it's awful. You have to would you very sought and 5000. Dollars on surgery for your pet I'm raising my hand because I don't know what if for first time in my life and for what what kind of life expectancy re giving the pac twelve. The day you get very little if I tell you when we spent the money on the surgery to cancer surgery via. Died he's like we have won my my dog that I growing up. Past they have 56 years ago and you know she was fourteen at that point and we tennis I look we're gonna. You down because like that's it's just you're you're behind you and you're not going to get better when it's all said and done right now I haven't heard about it twelve years having said that we had plenty of times Rasheed eaten all kinds of crap before and it's OK we got to go and spend the money did you know do whatever you have so. I'll vote yes on this as well as we did. You know the hard parties say you wouldn't do it. But they take credit cards and everybody does we have every hour I know people yet EU's top U you suck it up and you spend the five grand. Our that's our poll question you can vote on our poll by visiting our website financial exchange showed dot com. And let us know way and older people tell the truth. It is nice as I sit here I mean we're asking an answer I don't I'd be Italy anonymous yes it as objectively though. Right my advice to use your financial advisor to currency don't sportsmen we present the candidates. It's an animal. Now and it'd probably only lives for all fourteen years in a lot of times it is working at least in my experience to this war. So here's the thing we're just looking at dogs though. Right cat not Cheshire cats horses what it's a bit like a pair keep it literally seventy years. All at whistling down which by the way real court I find really creepy like. Birds shouldn't lived out long. Is it really seven a year they would like 67 years out of its parent to parent while the one of them lives like as long as humans we get a card details that made it to about twenty Tuesday wow there's just something about a little bird like that living that long thin that it's just like it. Kinda creeps me out for some reason I don't know why there's some things out that's wrong that's your problem that that's so broad view. He had a problem of the bird living to put out there there's something I don't truck issue that I have no problem with turtles are whales that I just I think we should keep this. Did the main pack group dog and cat dog at all yet again. You can Texas and your thoughts on that 63566. Is our text number priority code on the road with hamsters in two rumbles through right now those those you gotta buy by the doesn't as they die anyway if Qantas. Now now apps and docs. So I'm hearing that. The majority opposes the ballot question nursing staff and even in September. It looked like this thing was gonna paths they the near the ballot initiative now it's looking based on recent poll in. That the hospitals have done a good job combating the nurses want in a. Think that the big thing I was over. You know few friends over the weekend and we were talking about this and in the kind of at the same opinion that I did which is. Why is this on the ballot. You know it is it and they were saying OK so. You're saying you need more staffing why don't you go through. The end there won't egos you know a group that actually handles this stuff. Instead of me of why you asking me Tucker and you'd handle the slate we we don't know what staffing levels should be them insert their view was look they're good they were going to vote no. Because they just said look it's I don't know how many nurses you need per patient yeah what do of that mourners are sherbet coldest it where the people here talk thirties. I just wonder I think this is largely going to be generational issue they get here. My age. Right if you're in your sixties or seventies or eighties and you've got. Family members that are receiving medical care or you are yourself that managing your nursing home resident. Right you think and then I'm Bo reports and I'm gonna go. I I want better care but does that actually give you better care that's the question and I realize people are are wondering about you know. If you need it but it. Isn't that incidents here in the part of the lake I understand the hospital's perspective in the cost angle on this and bright 'cause it's gonna cost a billion to billion dollars to to staff up. But I think you should get better care one he's gonna have. Fewer patients Turner's how we know that better what can we know that were not already pretty close to the optimal level we know that too many cooks in the kitchen is is a recipe for problem. Why do we need you know three nurses for ever one of these patients as opposed to five or six win a few talked and nurses they'll tell you their overworked if you if you talk I've got nieces that are nurses and I've yet. Nieces that are doctors working in the health care profession. In the A will tell you. There's a lot of time when they're not evil to provide adequate level of care proper level of care because they feel the parents that that's the whole thing came from. Is there any business where that is in the case right now now know of course but he eats the eyes on the ballot. Who you're you're suggesting is in need a better way to resolve the issue there have people actually know about this and decide what to do because. You and me. Generally I think. It's what Smart people in theaters as the do you not like we have different opinions is we don't we don't know way but I think the nurses have said they have tried. To do the nurses union said hey we are understaffed. We need more nurses on the floor. I think they failed and I think this is their attempt this this is the way they're going about. We'll talk more about it when we return market is open it's in negative territory but not terrible we'll be right back. Life goes on FaceBook and follow us on Twitter. Time now for my whole street watch a look at the market's performance so far today but I don't Berrian jug right here on the financial exchange radio network. Time now for Wall Street watch presented. Five liter bank if you're looking for great gift for the holidays. We to bank has a wide selection of gold and silver bullion coins available all their locations have called them. At 8776917900. For more. Information. We're pretty rough week for stocks last week but today the Dow is up 23 points NASDAQ though is down sixty BS and and like usual I'm worried about the price of oil to over 71 dollars a barrel ten year treasury at 314 how Heidi again last week. We got up to 324. That with the NASDAQ being down like that that makes me nervous just because that had been your market leadership. And so that means in negative territory you know to get votes necessarily to well. What would what's going on top players to scan amazing text that's. It's a legislative started. And pretty evident this does is have a sour is about the pet thing is that Barry five day for the vet our chief fluffy yeah. Go well the you know it's it if it happens you know that everybody does it it's an emotional thing especially you have like it. You go eat you take your thirteen year old with you to an event. You try telling your thirteen year old you're not gonna you know invest like you don't get a dog when your kid is born. They did it the exact situation that I outlined. It's yes it's terrible you know it's terrible but yet that this this market here. I think he's gonna show a lot of the same signs that we saw back in the spring. Where it's gonna take a couple months to get this back together and kind of figure out. Now what things should be valued at go forward so I don't necessarily think that things are going to fall off the table right now but I think we've got a couple more months some of some volatility. Before this thing comes down here so. Got a few listeners Chiming in on the nurses ballot question 978 says hospital professionals know better than the government another 978 says bearing no on question one more government involvement is never good gotta agree with that. This is even government involvement though I discovered this is individual and like them that this is you know direct democracy and I think that for things like this direct democracy. It's not the best tool because it's a complicated issue this this would be like. You know if if you had a vote late cute you know what side of the road should we drive on. Half the people would say okay let's what like it's just not something that you want people voting on the yes follow the UPS story and a little bit we didn't really dig into. Last week mr. Harris got screwed so what do you think's gonna happen here on this matter old but Hoffa should be. Taken out back in shocked me need this escapade is the scum of the year today the he that the union votes 55% of the membership says yet pay we do we reject this contract this is a bad deal. We don't want it if you look at the New England numbers I rule looked at the the voting based on the regions tracked. It's like 85%. Of the New England chapter heard Teamsters said hey we're getting screwed do not accept this deal and you know the 55% was just. On the the members who voted overall on the UPS freight contract which covered in Naira were 20000 workers 63%. Rejected that contract. And yet it still ended up being ratified by union leadership here. So James Hoffa I think you're going to end up with a huge credibility problem for the union. And this is the exact kind of thing if you talk about where you know populism tends to come from the kinds of things that we've seen over the last decade. Comes from things like this when the average person the person who is working every day. Feels that the people who were empowered to make decisions for them don't make decisions that actually give them what they want. This is going to cause all kinds of problems the one. Saying that the union should be shamed and not them leadership that the members themselves the drivers the guy's handling the packages. They invoke. Did he show up to vote or about half of them voted and that's you know think you have no right to complain about your contractors union when you don't even though. And that's why they are able to ratify the stamp thing because he didn't get enough people vote. Yup pretty much that's it that's really the exact reason why if you go through and take a look. At the Teamsters constitution which I know there was one but if there's Teamsters constitution. It quote grants the Teamsters general president the power to implement a contract. If less than 50% of the members vote on a contract that then requires a two thirds no vote to reject and it's supposed to be that's the case going in a final offer. But it looks like that's what ended up happening you're so even though this contract was. Rejected. Soundly by union membership that actually voted it was not enough to overcome the fact that the president pretty much go through and say. Yeah we're gonna push this through anyways you know the Amazon pays more than you PX. For entry level workers in the east part time workers so if you're beat this thing may end up settling itself. Just be Odom wage pressure if you're gonna have guys. BUPS gonna have a tough time hiring people for thirteen bucks an hour when they can go across the street nick fifteen names or more. Then go to target and Amazon warehouse. I'd be curious to see what you're going to be getting paid this winter Amazon where you'll see the ads went up on the guests eighteen to twenty bucks an hour this region what you think management pushed to ratify this. Management or being loaded union union management why do you think union management pushed to ratify the us speculation that office on the take. Tell you what if you they did it doesn't look good it's not it doesn't make a whole lot of sense he if you look at James Hoffa first off forget is a woman but. You look at James Hoffa. And his history. That's not not rosy Ira how he got the job in the first place and use a lawyer that's another thing that total consideration. So the national master agreement has been signed off on by Hoffa but there's a local. Union in Chicago local 705. And they represented 8500. Chicago area UPS workers. They have their own contract that outside of the national contract and they are threatening Bulent struck they do when they're potentially looking at doing it at. The worst possible time for UPS the week after Thanksgiving you know you you talk about prime package season that is it at this point well and if they go out. I wonder if their Brothers in LA he in new York and Boston club to. Is that you know like the the U leadership right now of the Teamsters. Is hate it. Me they keep the the they're not happy with this country even the guys like it don't you have UPS. Drivers and workers texting into the show telling us how ticked off they are. I I'm not sure this story is over even though Hoffa has ratified the contract metro these drivers are gonna put up with that. Fluent in in think about it you are in the position of hiring year in year UPS right now. If if I'm someone who has skills that would work it UPS so let's say I have my CDO. In my gonna go work Baier where my union leadership didn't do what the membership wanted or by gonna say. Gee I get skills that are in demand is there enough truck drivers right now only go find a better place to work actually so. I think it's gonna hurt with hiring I think it's gonna hurt with retention and in this environment where you don't have enough workers to go around anyways. Especially as you're heading into this you know this ball wherever on ramps up for the seasonal workers and everything like that. I don't even know if they're gonna be able to get worker like that this is not a good look for that he's a worker shortages everywhere. This is this is not due to the economy strong it'll be to be that. That's a story that will continue to fall 705. In Chicago especially won't watch if watch watch what we see in terms of package delivery rates this year in terms of on time delivery rates and things like that if UPS has problems with that more so than your other delivery services. I think you can make it clear line rate to this I don't know if they're gonna be able to hire as well a thing about the other you know FedEx workers she'd get a postal workers and media. Give a lot of labor right now. Now get that nose for the first time in 2530 years and they have the upper hand that a long time that been a long time since in Walt's not. Businesses seeing a slowdown weeks after the MGM Springfield opening I still haven't been out there. I haven't either I I've intended to but I haven't been able to go just my weekends have been busy but. I guess for the first two or three weeks things continued to be pretty busy out there. It has slowed since then I think some of this is probably just taped you know as it gets in the fall and things get darker you know people don't do was much just as you know we darkened green hunkered down a little bit. But obviously some of the excitement and buzz has worn off. And I think you know it somewhat to be expected you're not gonna keep up opening weekend. Numbers for ever. I think the big thing is it that is going to be a have to happen here is much like you see with places like a foxwoods or Vegas or put. You know people go also for the shows and stuff like that he got to bring good actually got to bring good consistent entertainment. You know people are can necessarily go every week just to gain and we got to bring those other pieces there. MGM's got a good track record of doing that what do you think happens with foxwoods in movies what kind of numbers you think they're now deep crap I I think that especially once Everett opens next year. I mean I think foxwoods Mohegan or windows ever open they duties at September I believe it's still lie next year. I believe that for some reason have July 27 in my head but I'll I'll second. Find out but I think I think foxwoods and Mohegan once all that stuff is open. I think they're probably off 25 to 30%. From where they were previously if not more. Hi everybody it's very Armstrong and potluck ski from the legal exchange showed dot com we're talking about. Cushing and old guy for the month October called Medicaid income trusts. Todd I have to confess the average person. Is not going to know win the trust documents they have are right or wrong the need to rely on whoever their tourney would be. What should they be looking for when selecting an attorney to draft. And Medicaid income trust or an asset protection trust you know their I think that's the best question ever because you're right they don't know much as we try to educate them. It's just too hard the language is too technical and and and people aren't gonna know one player and others so when you're looking to hire a lawyer to do this. I think one you should find out if they spend a 100% of their time. Doing as they play the taxes estates trusts you know that's it. If they're busy running their personal injury court we can't keep you know it's hard enough for me to keep up. And I total time. Also make sure on their card when you get their card to use the letters el Alam after their name. That usually means that they have a masters in legal letters and taxation mean certainly need that need to understand taxes when you're drafting trust you do or tell you that from personal experience. And lastly I would say when you leave the meeting you know what you want to have a flat fee. Right when note it's gonna cut you don't wanna be billed you know by the hour for this work exactly and when you leave had a great understanding of what was done you're not asking more questions. Then when you came in. Good advice from Todd let's keep you'd like to copy of their October guide regarding Medicaid income trust you can call them told free. 866. 8485699. Vote on our daily poll question had financial exchange showed John come while you're there fire of the media player and watch the show while you work. This case the financial exchange radio network. Are you sick of working in finance or retail we might wanna consider the biotechnology. Sector it is growing. Very fast as a matter of fact while the rate of growth is about. Double live here here it is in 20126. Point 1% of mass life science companies. Left their jobs voluntarily. Typically within another job in hand according to Radford this is unity of global professional services. Last year that more than doubled to 13% so if you work in Biotech. There's a demand for your services especially if you happen to be scientist. Yeah and the big thing that you're seeing is in order for these companies to try to retain talent obviously wages are moving up significantly but they're also throwing all kinds of perks people just try to keep them on board anything from gym memberships. You know you know cafeterias on site that are you know high quality in this and that. Child care they all kinds of things the big thing that people like that work for these Biotech companies. Is the time off I talked to a gal. And she's working you know it's a small Biotech company so they don't have the gym memberships and India and the other Padilla would they do is. At Christmas the weak Christmas they just shut down. For the entire week the whole week now and they're gonna do it now for the July 4 week and it doesn't count when your time off so you get your four weeks of vacation time poster personal days or whatever. But if two weeks in a you know in the middle of the year and at the end of the year where you get a full vacation week you don't have to use your vacation that's if you're raising a family. Oh it's a big very valuable part. In it it's one of those things where if if you look at there's a lot of industries where they can't do that anything customer service facing you can't do that these financial service there can't do it but for something like this were all you do is a whole bunch of research. You coordinate research schedules ZK you can do that kinda thing so. It's it's really interesting that these businesses. Are kind of pushing the envelope as far as tape you know. We can't necessarily pay people more will give all kinds different perks. That might still PO offer significant benefits. Lot of money pouring into that sector there as you look there is companies. You know they'll be treated three bucks and then couple weeks later they're treated twenty dollars a share 'cause they got some kind of net yeah. Politics is like some kind of a drug approvals they were the opposite way too though that's the problem. Yeah all they do they use you can make a lot of money enemy can lose an awful lot of money down. Speaking of wage Medicare premiums are going up modestly next year let's make a lot of money you see the if if you make a lot of money your Medicare premiums are going to be over a thousand bucks a year. Yeah it's is it something where. The the part B premiums so which this year have been in 134. Dollars the I'm a month. They're going up to 13550. So it's only it's probably modest it's a really small increase I don't know. What the reasons for that I don't know if they've been better cracking down on fraud I don't know if they've found you know better reimbursement rates to keep prices down. But that is a really small increase for Medicare premiums and what that means is that people who are getting Social Security bombs meaning everyone who gets that two point 8% bump on Social Security so what's at work at 240 bucks a month you know both they're going to be able to keep most. Which is being is that there been so many years were either people have gotten no bump for Social Security it's been all eaten up by increases in Medicare premiums and this is really do it again. Yup let's put it this way notre if you're living on your Social Security your work. You you're not that he can't pay your bills. In new England and live on the LA and then Aaron here eight years old and New England there's a lot sports the country where. All people live on is their Social Security that people are doing would you do it so you know they're not easy they're not living inside 128 is my guess while they're living in subsidized housing. Now you you could live if it work if you're out and you know why Lancaster or something like you can have cheaply out there you know it's it's. It's just that we get so focused on OK here's what things cost the city. As a whole bunch of people don't have anywhere near city he had to have modest increase in your Medicare part. In a pretty good bump in your Social Security you know the bump in Social Security would that be in the January check. It's going to be I believe so yes it's and so they they pretty much tell you right now just so you can plan for it. But that is going to be starting in 2019 suing January. And just as an added bonus here a 65 year old American male. In 2018. Is expected to live another nineteen point two years I start seeing the older you get the more you start focusing in on the stats if that if the 65 year old has another nineteen years I figure I must have been 20/20 five. That means if you make it's 65. Pretty good chance to reconnect to eat before the promised by an air. You either do or you don't. And there's no middle ground you know you can't get halfway lake it's it's a if you're either doing you don't you know it's not like going at 75 and if you've done that yeah it's it. How about women. 65 year old American female in twenty teens gets an extra 21 point six year QC 86 point six years old and you know what we've seen over the last forty years as this outlines here. Is that life expectancies you know particular for those who are older have increased somewhat here a lot of the gains that we've picked up life expectancy over the twentieth century. We're primarily due to improved. Medical care around the first few years of life you know it used to be if you go back to late eighteen hundreds early nineteen hundreds. Pretty good chance of dying in your first five years alike know with it was pretty common and that's part of the reason why people had such big families is paving new couple worked in a make. What you see now is we're starting to get better and improving quality of life for older folks and soon you're seeing longer life expectancies even if purity in your 50s60s and seventies well meant you know the it's all good news but imagine the strain that's been put on Medicare and Social Security. With which Israel are calculated the last you know it would make these programs are designed you're supposed to be dead the timing seven. Most times you were you know it's it's just that that they're not built to last in a world where people retire in their sixties and and a retired for twenty to 25 years ago nobody talking about fixable or they'll know in Austin and media. Our generation seriously at least. Our our generation is just sane and we'll let the Evelyn use him. David Dow still hanging on to modest gains the Dow is up two points of nasdaq's down 56 points. We get a price on what it boils up just two cents a barrel at 7136. And the ten year treasuries at 315 that's not that bad 315 on the ten year treasury called me when it's born half the problem of this we'll be right back with more. Opening for extra. Hoping income while you're in retirement you worked all your life and you've accumulated money in your higher raise your rock fiery Ager forward Kaczur for a three vis your pension plans all that money you've accumulated it then retired you say well gee I need 3000 dollars a month I need to design and develop income from my portfolio how does one do that in today's market shock when interest rates are so low. Well it really is a challenge because you don't have the fixed income options that we used to CDs bonds that were yielding 567%. That does not here anymore and wanted to take our treasuries like 310. In one of the real challenges I think is being able to keep up with inflation if you're an instruments that are always yielding two or 3% and so the conventional wisdom is hey you take your rates attractive from a hundred and that's how much equity exposure you should have I don't know that necessarily holds true for everyone today simply because if you're in a portfolio that sixty or 70% bonds I think you might struggle with keeping up with inflation over the next couple decades what about factoring in what you're living expenses are how does one do that yet to make sure the have a budget put together before handed figuring out what you actually need and what your retirement looks like it's a big thing that you need to figure out are you gonna move to lower cost of living area there's certain expenses that falloff. This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chunks of you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay info. In the end up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chuck Exxon. Was last week stock market correction that beginning. Of larger problem the market's gonna continue to go down. Well I don't know the answer to battle for talk about it the Dow is up fifteen points as we speak for everybody to Berrian chuck with you here. It is a Monday morning and that's a fair question enemy is stocks by many. Calculations got a little bit ahead of themselves yeah. During the last ninety days was that last week just small correction current system we need to be concerned about for the next year too. Both. You know if I think with with any type of downward moved the questions that you do always ask her hey is this you know something that fundamentally indicates. A bigger problem present in the economy or is it simply a market that you know made might have gotten a little worried and selling off for no reason. In this case I do think it's somewhat of a combination in that bit the factors that led to this market selling off today. I think largely our fears of what might be coming over the next twelve to eighteen months specifically with regard to inflation it's concerned that inflation is going to be hotter than expected. And as a result you can see more rate hikes which end of Sloan the economy. Having said that. It's possible that those get overcome we saw that earlier this year where your member back to February. We got to bang up jobs report on February 2 the date the Friday before the Super Bowl the day after the super bull. Markets sold off the the Dow was off 11175. Points in one day in all based on inflation fears. They didn't realize over the next six months that we we worry about inflation. But earnings. Strong. Well earnings are good right now but keep in mind inflation is one of those things they can influence earnings going full present cost of borrowing goes up the cost of borrowing goes up cost of labor goes up that all eats in the margins in eats and the ability to grow company. Actually that would be a terrible thing it is like what you're referring to let's talk about. You get some inflation. And the Fed responds by a raising interest rates okay well that means that I'd go to the bank and instead of having to buy stocks to make a 4% return right I can buy a CD. And by four maybe even 5% CD I'd look at that that's that's pretty what. And who you war and in this as you know with with any shift in policy whether it's from. Congress or whether it's from the Fed any shift in policy is going to create winners and losers are. If you look at who losers have been over the last decade in I don't say losers over your lose or say hey who who was lost as a result of Mino fed policy. Fed policy has disproportionately punished people who don't own assets right now. So the people who've been punished hey if you don't own real estate if you don't own stocks you've missed out on all of these gains the last ten years. Likewise if you are someone who has relied on fixed incomes were here ten years chuck you we knew agree like. Eight you're talking about the working class Rite Aid maybe there. The bottom 5060% of Americans decide that policies really been a problem for them for the last decade before that there were other issues that were BO present but it wasn't the Fed that was you know keeping the working man down in the last ten years it has been. Okay because when the Fed goes and lowers interest rates. If you own assets the price of those assets goes up which means they've all been great but if you don't it's harder for you to buy them now can read more on affordable is your wages haven't gone up the same way. If you look at what we're seeing now with the Fed starts to raise interest rates yet your 100% right savers are gonna benefit there. Asset owners okay are going to struggle a little bit in the short term as rates go right. And workers you can bet I EC that they've that and that's not a bad thing right they in the when we're down on the last month. I made a point of saying hey for the first time in probably thirty years American workers are in the driver's seat I still feel. I still think if you have straw Ali if that is the will to work. And I think you're gonna get paid his you don't even have to be terribly skilled dead it's great if your computer scientist radio or your program or doctor nurse. You don't have to eat if you got a strong back you can make a decent living there. You can the one place where I think this is different. Is when it comes to the overall US budget right now and here's why. If you look at the way the United States is financed its deficits over the last thirty to forty years. It hasn't been because US citizens or US businesses have gone out and bought more US treasuries and it's been financed largely on the back. Europe and then China then going out and buying treasuries now OK and your fear is that they'll buy less schooling for they RD house. Okay China sea wave since two point fourteen. Foreign buyers have been net neutral as far as what they've been buying their and so the question then is if you have rates going up meaning that the the treasury is gonna have to pay more on the bonds that it issues at auction. Hate that extra interest is getting into the federal budget which means we then have to borrow more or cut other programs that. And so you end up with this crowding out scenario because you don't have foreign buyers to sterilize the US debt anymore. In you potentially end up with some nasty situations as a result of that. It's not something that's guaranteed to happen because they. Maybe things get cleared up internationally elves and China says yup happened by treasurys again mean I don't think that's happening and I doesn't feel I don't think that's happening China sees an existential threat to being tied to the dollar and they wanna move away from. He still love trick elect. That question Tucker says quite good just I had never been. Prevent overdose I don't have any near me where to drive 45 miles to girl you should. Should you should Tennessee you'll change your life I was a good delivery as a gonna chick filet and I said to myself why would somebody. Buys a a McDonald's franchise. As opposed to check fully why would somebody buying. Subway fractures and a subway franchise is more expensive to bosh then Tripoli. Franchise you can get your sense you can get a check fully franchise for like twenty period. But you know what. There's 20000. Apple yup it's harder to get into Harvard. It it's unbelievable 20000 people apply to buy a Tripoli in you know how many the about eighty little less than a hundred yeah. So it's they've got something going on you've less than half a percent chance of actually being approved it to buy one of these franchise that they are looking for somebody. That they can mold. In the deal also don't sell you you can't say why wanna buy all the chick fully franchises in New England. For all that you Larry you know you could buy. One and unlike McDonald's which now is looking for people to buy more than one McDonald's if you go on their website and take a look at their franchise guy the franchisee guidelines. They want people who can buy 5101520. They want but I did I hear not operating. Right like. Chick filet is sane. Yeah we'll in the door for twenty grand dip rate. But you have to be there every day. You've got to hire the people you've got a mixture greet the customers like if you don't particularly franchise. It's not you you're not operating from the cease we know her on the floor they. They don't want you to be active one of the key things is when you go through while what they detail that they want. One of the biggest things they don't want you have any other active business ventures they want you to be all in on this franchise. And I'll tell you do whatever you know I talk about how good the food is checked flights again I lost the chicken move to something about it like I love the chicken. This customer service I have gotten there not only is better than any other fast food restaurant I've seen. It rivals some actual rule we you know sit down dining establishments and in terms of the overall quality that you get. You get managers who whip literally managers walking around picking up trash saying hey can I get you anything to eat ice and if you get people coming up to help you. More often than I have ever seen and I think. When I talk about you know the chiefly experience and why I think it's better the food one thing. But customer service is something that's been largely left out of the last twenty years just about everywhere because it all gets sent. You know to think about any customer service is what I hear is you've had whether it's with well I'll whether it's win dale whoever it is it's. Generally not good no I don't I and I disagree with there. In you are generally gonna get. Pretty good service well I just can we came back what we are in Paris for a week let's talk about bad service. Try visiting Paris. What was bad about maybe they knew you were American. Now maybe you know about it. The VP the waiters there they don't get much in the way tips right so they make prayer you know 1520 euros an hour. But because people don't tip regions don't tip. They the you get just go off certainly what was that was its slow today not bring the rate like what we actually about love and usually just slow it wasn't like the lot of times people sales at furniture in the word they they're very nice but it was just like. EU could go literally twenty minutes with your empty plates nine years in for an idea that I went on that my new I want my plea. I think part that just is a cultural defer I was just about to say that chuck I think in America everything's fast paced and getting get out ands. There are just way more laid down if they want you spend like two or three hours eating right. Well I I would I I would take American service over. Your eyes and I think today's the David Boies by the way to school ruled chick filet near me in this one and data which I was not aware of which is right on the way home so you in ago and I think I might. But they'd be in that it's there's the question as to why. People don't buy chip a how much is named after me if you if you violent franchises. The kind of money are we talking a manager the opener the only probably you'll you go out. Like really you're only pay twenty grand to get the franchise so really what they're doing is they're hiring managers. You're you're buying the opportunities via manager for friend surgically. So I can do some research OK based on what I'm finding initially OK this is. From someone on this online is from someone who was a former marketing director at chick filet. But it looks like if you talk about the base revenue that you get plus some profit sharing and so forth that. It looks like the low wind is about a 100000 a year the high end is well north of 350s so my guess is most people. Probably between 20300. A year when it's all said and done a good living good Iraq and and you have to work Sundays. Now aunt and I wonder if you get free chick like them on dredged let me tell you that there's some value of that sign me up. He when we come back we're be talking about Google's carpooling service it is now available throughout the United States. Have a question for Berrian judge. Now you can text us at 63566. So it's and it comes it comes and 774 this must be way. Suggesting factories should not go to Tripoli today as you gain ten pounds and well liked him do that manner so what are the let's talk to answer let let's talk about Google's with easy as used ways and I did I stop using on a purely on Google Maps now meets I'm always. A I've always liked it but where he target actually it's called wanna say. It's more upscale. I I caller we easy. That we easy. Is now. Has a feature where you can carpal so if you're driving from. You know be home to work everyday. India and you turn around nine hours later in hours later you're doing the same thing. You can pick somebody up along the way and defray the cost without having it and in without taking really a lot more time this question and pick somebody up when you're at work. Yeah and this is due in a a pilot program that they were testing in northern California as well as Israel over the last couple years right but it's now going to be available and all points in the United States and so I do think it's interesting because a potentially offers a competition to lift and never you know really who have been kind of the two main companies in that ride sharing network. But what they're seeing what they're saying here as far as you know what Google is trying to accomplish. They're saying look we don't want people to become professional drivers that's not what we're trying to accomplish here. We just want you say hey if I'm driving home from work I'm available for carpool and you can drive someone along the way. Pick you pick them up in in effectively drop them off. We just think about traffic right in the high density that we have if it was the way to get people change their behavior is through convenience. And compensation right yeah. So this could do two things ways to do two things one it could decrease congestion because instead of having one person and car you might actually have four people in that car BM is carpooling. But then the other incentive would be if you're the guy doing the driving you're making money you might be making your car payment to help pay for gas help pay for maintenance. Pay for now parking space or something like that depending on where you think this takes off what are the drawbacks to. Odd that the drawbacks are. I think number one I think it's somewhat intimidating probably to set up to begin with just as I think you know it's tenement like a stranger get reliable car is kind of like at a special place where it's like okay I'm it's just me so I think number one. Saying OK too are the ones you be picking up strangers actually it because question. I think you know figuring out. How consistently you'll be able to do that I think is another one you know are you gonna. Have most people in the go to work let's say you're a nurse your doctor Brendan you're working that shift you're driving from. You know from Madison to a New Haven every day same time you know secured your. You're doing the actual which is why I think the consistencies going to be a question and it's it's a chicken and eggs being so let's say that I'm someone who's who wants to drive people. File log on in the first three days there's no one who wants to accept bribes to like turn off and never try it again likewise to find someone who says gee I might wanna carpool with some of them have been drive me. If file log on I can't find anyone to that other person yes and hey I'm not gonna do that yet is they're gonna be enough do you have a big enough network. That it's going to work so you know for someone like me. Tucker and I don't use weights and okay so we're on Google Maps we might you know be after they're gonna throw this on Google Maps before you know. They might at some point but they haven't yet so you know you look at it you say okay it's it's it's interesting. I think their questions as far as adoption just because you need to get a big enough network before people trusted. True. But again the text number 63566. My first name at the beginning of your text message. I was perplexed when I saw this story track a hedge fund invested. Fifty million dollars in buying taxi medallions in New York City. Which the first question that you typically ask is do they not like money and a trying to get rid of it and then after you do you put that aside and say OK you sit down and ask. See something that someone does it do they see something that no one else is looking at smartest guy in the room has the taxi market than at the medallion markets sold off so much that maybe it's actually a bargain at this point so they bought. Around 300 medallions. Four that fifty million dollars so 866. Yes he do the math that's about a 166000. Her medallion here how'd you like to be that guy. The last guy that paid one point three million for one in 2013 five years ago so it's in 90% is okay. It seems to be an over correction. Okay discuss any time you see something sell off 90% you say gee you know it could be over correctional Italian why does that have any. That was done. Well it's not beyond meter were interrupting the you know that's one of the benefits of each account of two point. It is not root the counterpoint is how to something go down 95%. Goes down non Indian an additional fifty OK so. I don't see any value in a taxi medallion is that the detainees out of the bottles are so right is it. Don't know. Don't know I I'd. My guess is they're saying look there's an over correction they're taking a flyer on it then I say I don't ring no amount for 151000 dollars a year. Oh what happens once we get driver was corps recently all right I could elect its NASA that is already declined. But they're still could be that additional 50% decline you know like I just I don't see. I could be wrong in I don't know the exact taxi patterns in new York and things like that but all I know is all my buddies in new York and take taxis to ride share. Regarding retirement income and chuck it strikes me you know we go to work every day we put money and are 41 K plans typically it's going into. Mutual funds or exchange traded funds that we're using to accumulate wealth. During our working yours higher earning years. That whole equation changes once we retire and we hit age 6570. And we say cheap son of a gun I need to take some income from a powerful. Yeah it it really does change and specifically war go to Morgan income generation mindset and it's difficult today because if you look at a lot of the ways that people historically did that CDs yielding 5%. Bonds yielding five or 6% her you don't have those tools available anymore seat need to make sure that you're still adapting your portfolio to the new demands of retirement. But you need to make sure that using the right instruments and so that can be combination of dividend paying stocks. It can be equities that you simply think gonna grow and pull little principal off there as well last in the right mix of bonds that can generate some income as well. What about municipal bonds that's something people use. It is of particular fewer in a high income bracket it's something that a lot of people use that we tend to target simply because the tax efficiencies you gain there can be significant if you like it. Now also the the month famous Monty Hall problem also one of the best bringing to users out there in my opinion. Some. Thank goodness for Mississippi. Does it without woods for Mississippi. All the other states would you know have to be embarrassed but miss Mississippi always has the worst economy what what state Mississippi. We Madison Mississippi at 59 might have a specific enough to go back and I I I I I thought I might happen. I made besides us fifty I have to say I enemy in New England. Es me. Have a good body mind from my Alabama from who I was talking and over the weekend he went down to Mississippi bureau over to Mississippi for a wedding. And he said forever when it ever makes fun of Alabama have been go to Mississippi and they won't make fun of Alabama anyway these are his exact words. But if so you take a look at these these numbers here. What what stood out to you most overall in terms some of these trends. I I just look at wages in the in Maine. The average weekly wage is 810 bucks a week who had to live on end and we even if your housing is an expense. Yes I think it is again. It is different when you're in different parts of the country and you can if you take a look at some of these areas in the M I'll just use as an example. You know Indiana. There wage growth is slowing one point 2%. But it's a really cheap place to live actually late night you can live off of you know 2530 grand a year pretty comfortably a lot of his taxes or property taxes property taxes are low you're overall expenses are focused a lot of the food is grown relatively close by item and ship long distances. If things like that make a big difference there but. In terms of the overall economy's that you see here. What what stands out to mean you talk about this an awful lot. It's education and you know education makes a big difference you're talking Washington State Colorado. DC Utah Texas Massachusetts Virginia I would lose your top ten bail either ever really good public universities or really good private universities and so you know it really does make a big difference there. When it's all said and on but I look at Vermont and New Hampshire pretty muted it education infrastructure and their companies are good at that part of that is so education I think is a big piece there and but it even doe was cases I think it's just size and scale if they just can't get to the overall size. And critical mass in those places you know Vermont's get the second smallest population country. An and I think that plays in there Florida's got a good economy. The average growing at two and a half percent dip eleventh best in the country and again you talk about really good education University of Miami one of the best schools in the country. You know they've got some obviously state schools are good. State schools are pretty good they've give they've gotten better they didn't used to be great but they're gonna get case consistent terror. But again on the private side they've got some good private university noted public I'm talking about your grammar school like if you you don't live in and in Boca you know sending your kid public school now. So I think in general it's it's its size and education kind of are the two pieces that you need in order to kind of get things moving. Netflix. With what what's the problem in Netflix being laid an egg. Or that they did in that they didn't grow at the rate the people were expecting they came in with five point 51 million new subscribers in second quarter this what we found back in. When they reported earnings last quarter that was down from seven point 41 the previous quarter and below six point two million that they had guided too in April. The big thing is Netflix is a growth company the game when you buy a growth company. You know buying the cash flow that they have today you're buying the potential cash flow they might have to more now. And the issue with that is if they miss numbers like this the stock does get punished the stock went from 419 share in July. Down to 316. In mid August run 324 a share today so it's all about 25% almost 25%. From its. Guys here he has to do with all the competition coming into the space you know eighteen tees getting into the business Disney skating in the business. Amazon is coming out with more and more product that I find watchable. 38 parallel Wal-Mart is now to. If we are out you know we we did but I I'd actually I'll six have you heard of people it dear friends that have canceled their Netflix so idea but they've eventually carry. You know come back around on Netflix my son Michael canceled its decision early didn't we just were watching them. To hear anything. Apple instead others Easter services Hampshire and he said daddy I cancel mine at the. I think competition is definitely something that they're feeling pressure from not so much I don't know they're feeling it on the subscriber site is I think a lot of people look at and say gee it's ten bucks what's the big deal then but I think they're feeling it from a cost pressure in terms of there's other people beating against them for content now moves I think they're feeling it on that front. I also think it at some point they get to a saturation issue it's big internationally. They love. You know I I think. You know they they've somehow been able to outperform in the United States the last couple years were people kept saying well how many more subscribers can they get yeah I an eight week. Izzy and share those subscriptions and I don't I wonder if they're getting to a saturation issue now. You know so that's a question that I have. You don't make sense but you'd never think about it into the fear of it in human terms. Guber and lift which are relatively new technologies. Can deactivate their drivers. Without notification. And without any kind of research having been done they can just say we got a bad report on YouTube and work turning you walk you can't drive for a. Yeah and that there been cases of this where you know drivers or sadness and a camp trying to log onto my lift dapper to might move wrapping it won't let me. And it might take them a week two weeks in some cases even five to ten weeks to get an answer out of the company is to pay why did you actually turn me off in usually is because. Of an accusation. Of. You know you you were rude for you appeared drunk Corey you you suck an accusation is made by customer. And any day immediate response in the part of the technology company lifted Cooper is to say when Kelly drive until we've researched it birth. This to me speaks to one of the bigger problems in general with some of these companies that put technology at the focus of how they're driving down costs in that. Let's say that you get a complaint let's and I'm driving for Hooper. And I get a complaint that I harassed the customers that are now driving erratically. The company right now it doesn't have the resource to go out and actually find out what happened you know so it's simply presses a button and deactivate seat. He wins here at work which he problem is money may be on depending on that to pay my bills to Pia and he's they're gonna make direct payment in so it makes the whole experience of working so impersonal. And that I think it breeds resentment against the system and rightly so because you don't you feel like you don't have any control over your ability to work actually. And I think if these companies want to become better long terms stewards of their businesses that need to figure out better ways to deal with us but the there's also been a lot of instances where. He had Newburgh driver who shot somebody unity you owe him that Lugar drivers which is why people kill people I. And eat eat eat eat those cuts both ways this is why they can't do nothing. Because doing nothing's been nibbling say they're saying they were cut you off. And then will figured out a few weeks exactly so that they're playing it safe right now which again they have to do something went out they figured out. They get let's say that your accused of being rumors I don't think you can use technology for this that's the problem like it's there's no technological solutions to human interaction. You know there way and I just live on FaceBook. Libya I've never had a bad experience with a lift her. Or Denver I've ever I've had a a medical couple tune navigation issues but it was nothing like here or Ruder and I haven't seen rudeness diet and one just awful navigation issue where it was someone. Who I don't think understood. Where's they were late I felt like we are about to drive into the ocean yet by driver yesterday didn't sprees on Saturday didn't speak a word is from Brazil. I aimed and that was almost thirty years ago on Saturday it was 57 dollar I'll make the case the 57 is a sustainable. Life Urich as they're losing money the little company made prop made a profit. The company. Whoever is not making a profit on that drive. Well and it's not even Lugar's support driver right Brittany drivers not making a ton either that goes in the good tip it hasn't you like you've you've you you do the math. OK here's this guy he drove me all the way out rate it to come. 3040 minutes to get home do you know of Hooper takes a cut of the tipped as well. Business news is constantly break I. And we're here to break it down and show what it means to your portfolio it's the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and jugs ought to on the financial exchange radio network. Chuck we have to textures that are telling us that night dirt mover or lift. Take a portion of the tip. So if you leave the driver five but if he gets the entire drive or sheet as the case may be in its entirety. That's good yeah that's good enough the top 1%. Of earners. Paid a greater share of individual income taxes 37 point 3% chart in the bottom 90%. Combined at thirty point five. Yeah and any in in particular than if you stretch that out the top 3%. Of individual filers. Paid more than the entire 97%. Combines so they paid nearly 50% more effectively it's it's it's rather crazy when you look at it here. On just how much the top 1% in top point one and so on pay. The big reason why is just because there's such a great wealth disparity in income disparity between them with an out of house a couple out there is half the population pays no income. Exactly. And this isn't changing anytime soon. No probably not well what about if wages go right if if if all the sudden the guy Macon forty grand years making 6070. He's a start paying some taxes. So did the key thing though is are those wages for the average person going to go faster than they do for people at the top. And if that if wages go up what. I say it acting cube might actually see. I I. For the first time and in probably 3035 years I think you are going to see higher wage increases. For service providers people that actually do things as opposed to for paper pushers because the Dick big the investment bankers in the financial sector. Has been Macon. Fortune for thirty years I think that's about change I think it's our life. It is a big. The the need to get things done right people when you look at your high school graduating class. How many of them went in to become electricians plumbers carpenters. Out of Tom probably make that we've probably all Alley to give that up ya know I'll tell you what's so mind my second cousin who lives out in Michigan. She's 716. Or seventeen years old now. Can become a welder now. Couldn't be like I heard it a couple weeks ago and I was like that's awesome but they know might my point news. We we have this in a large gap where people didn't going to trades in physical work I think now we've reached the tipping point. Where those physical workers with your UPS driver with the Euro welder carpenter electrician or plumber. You're gonna say hey if you want me to show up and it showed up for 203040 bucks an hour it's gonna be sixty it's going to be eighties going to be hundred bucks and I agree on that. But I also think that the people the top and an actor deceived themselves making less all of a sudden. On a relative basis I think their rate of increase will slow compared to the bottom the bottom 50% I think is deemed the masses. Just because of demographics and demand that he is gonna change. You have to hold generation you guys you you're like when you went to high school. Was there did you take shop class did you learn how to wire do electrical work mound work and car pottery. Those classes there was a car class available I'm throws like workshop stuff added to that. And and what's up two years actually. If I was a very good out of but I did it. Will never be carpenter. My point is when you need to hire carpenter you're paying for. I agree I just I don't see anything that changes that slows down and you know overall growth for the top end in the long like I just thank. I don't see it like what what changes there. I think that change isn't so much on the top end. Slowing is it is the bottom and rate rise which has the same net effect it does so if if popping into it that's a topic and wage growth the top 1% it's been growing at 5% and then that means. They don't the workers and I'm referring to skilled trades people I think you're gonna see them growing at 10% earn more rapid rate just because there aren't enough pop them they just. You try hiring some try to get an electrician come after house so it's it's tough now if it's if you can find one. It's it's 250 bucks for basic service call where Darian and twenty minutes. In a year your is just the way it is yeah this is. I agree and all that I just I in this world today I don't see things changing that quickly on the top and though that's that's the thing is I I still see the top and have a rising quickly now I do. The Dow is down five points NASDAQ is off 46 points and we've got the price of oil down three cents a barrel at 7131. And the ten year treasury note. Is it 316. Maybe a little bit of calmness this week you know lasting good news just nuts. Could be I don't think this column was going to Los though you you're worried about negative also this little school here is yet to tune in tomorrow. Tomorrow will be joined by John Moody on the financial supermarket.
