This is the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chunks of you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and up today about an economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chuck Exxon. Well the apple watch series wore. A big hit so far we're to talk about who likes it why Rossiter talk about the top reviewers. And here assessment. Of the new iPhone XX tiger but it's very sharp with you here it's a Wednesday morning and people love their apple watchers I I have not succumbed but the people that I talk to. Seem to like them a lot. Yeah I haven't either I still have one of the when the good old traditional you know mechanical watch is that I don't have time watchman you know tells me the time and I can look at and say oh gee it's you know. 403 here it's 802 it was at a relax. No because I came to roll looks great story actually so like most like a lot of middle school kids we took a class trip when you're to Washington DC and see how America works in this nanny go to all the museum doesn't. And so you know everyone comes back with there and they got you know the fecal please in the fake Rolex is this that. So I came back at Bali in two of these fake Rolex is nice stuff to minister war. Well mine my mom would put the way my clothes a couple BO weeks later something she finds these things yet. And I get called and talked my parents they thought I'd stolen these that they were real watch them like a much guys make a come on I'm on the eighth grade and I know they're not really you know getting steal ten grand in watches here you know but this just a humorous little side. Anyway the the watch series is big it I think the big criticism that I here. Is that the darn thing kick a 24 hours of chart yet I think that is it continues to be the big problem with these is that. Especially if you have the model that's connected to a cellular network which really is what you want so you don't have to have your iPhone with you at the same time that gently you carry your wearing the watch. It really only last about eighteen to twenty hours you know who likes them is what I thought talkers a lot of women like the watches. Because they don't like carrying around big bulbs. But they can get a lot of what they need on there and watched him via its it's something I still need to see a more robust battery and until they have advances in battery technology you the lithium air batteries instead of lithium ion. Or some of these other types of batteries that are near being talked about. I don't see a real solution will five G make it difference Willie because right now. The reason and batterers die so fast well the reason the batteries die so fast is they're downloading that four G data. These five G. So much faster that it might let the matter in the long no sweet he could be worse it's not so much that it's downloading the data but the it's trying to connect cells in the problem with five G is the cells don't have as much rain some might actually and making it worse. Once you get to that point so. It's it's something that is gonna continue to be the real drag its you know which we talk about electric cars now the outlook range anxiety. But the problem with you know Smart watches people have a life inside you know there's dissidents EG talent that original like if if my watch just dies it's just did you know but strap around why that's happening people are wearing a watch to get up be cornered the charge it overnight to put it on in the morning and just to make it through the day. That's and that's the knock on the aisle so here's what I know I know like the watch that I haven't I know not every watch is built like this but the on part of the face they have little solar panels that help to you charge so whenever the wind and camera. What can you put stuff like Wendy's don't know I don't know I don't know the reason bottom of sedan known locally it's stuff that's on far less expensive and far less complicated watches like you do down. CNBC had an opportunity just talked to many the people who are guests on our show. Regarding their purse section in perspective on the new iPhone and noticed Joanna stern in here and Scott Stein from CNET do a lot of people that have come on the show with their assessment CBC kind of put together an aggregate if you will. Of the assessments. Of the new iPhone access. Welcome degrades the. In general very strong you know most reviewers said hey this is you know it's it's a really strong phone they meets key improvements from last year nothing groundbreaking but you know better cameras effectively. Does better battery electric latter is a little better better now. They did say welcoming these are expensive phones noted they're starting a thousand bucks effectively on and if you wanted that bigger screen that might be reason yep but they they pretty much said look if you want a cheaper alternative but still a new phone. You gotta wait for the iPhone X are which is gonna launch in October about five weeks later do you happen to know the access is in the stores now. Tomorrow tonight no fried amply product via same day that you would have gotten it shipped to you if you today if he did prewar. But pretty much all the reviews said look this is a step up from the iPhone ten that we had last year. It's it's a you know again incremental step forward it's not something yet give anything groundbreaking here but I don't think anyone was really expecting that. But they said look this is a good step forward. And if you been holding off for phone it's not a bad time to get when these are you really good phone. None of them in their reviews mentioned the fact that these will blot it out to the five G technology coming out here. Actually it's coming up later this year I don't think it'll matter too much. On the line and they is that was actually that for me. Was the reason I'm not an upgrade of the networks unit widespread enough within twelve months I and it's going to be this year it's going to be for wide separate skeptical why it's gonna be three to four year old. But you still talking. So you buy one. In September next year of the Boston September next it may be in parts of most of the problem with five G and currently this is real important to remember about five G yeah. Its line of sight. So with that means let's say that you wore on opposite sides Hancock Tower. You need different transmitters. On each side. So using its its rule in its slow roll well because the east companies Verizon is seeking. Verizon now Verizon's making the people don't know what it is and they'll buy something just as they think it's noon. It's the same thing with you remember reporting they have to roll out toxins available before people pay for remember five years ago whenever we got to say about 3-D TV and whenever one now is excited about four K program in this and that what occurred TV. That all these things they tried to sell you know. None of them actually awfully big war actually doing anything productive at the time it's at eight years for a five year old happen so I should worry. It will. There's a reason why there's no phones on announced his. If they thought it was going right something that was rolled out this year then you'd have bones that are five G capable why did. Apple this year lead with its for each year rifle they haven't done that passed the meat come out and said. Basically Tucker. You would I want a new full rightly and one of the kids in the office that in turn them he bought the new phone. Costly fourteen or fifteen under there Apple's getting pretty pretty cheeky with this in terms of their overall roll out strategy in that pay if you want a new phone you feel like you need new. They're gonna make you pony up for the flagship. You know where's last year as well it was actually the opposite keep rosters and watched it last year they couldn't get the iPhone tends produced in time enrolled at eights on time in in the tens were a month later this they're doing the opposite so maybe year they've learned a lesson and the other thing is a lot iPhone buyers are status buyers. Oh a 1000% there now Billy would you would you agree I say that the vast bulk of the more you know there's definitely people like. Their people like Tucker and I who talked restoring the success a success and I'm still run and six Tucker and iron status buyers we don't buy the iPhone because it will school. We've had a casual Wear my my wife has five. SE or NASDAQ is that what happens when young guys Mary be the beat the it is used. You get used to rush out Tucker I series. You wanna impress everybody it's kinda like other ladies no I think it's the forward is the new cars these days think about when you're in your twenties and you know motorcycle one point. Pork imports. You poses those those here iphones and then had a baby you're got rid of the Portuguese if you had a motorcycle and a horse in the new last two cars have been a Prius in a ship people that's what happens interest and a talker and I've kind of made the same transition with our phones we used to say we gotta get the new week and now it's. You know what. The Prius of phones I'm OK with that. Her. I'd be curious as to our audience do you plan on buying one of the new life that's our poll question today. You can participate in the poll by visiting our website financial exchange showed dot com do you plan on buying one of the new life iphones. I just voted and I voted no now because I'm going to wait see even though Tucker. There will be five G technology available. For 29 dollars to replace the battery in my eight by yes sap and get it to seven plus second place the battery in your totally fine. I'll be good for at least another year probably two. And there so even if next year I go for that. New improved phone right and I get the five G capability. Even if it's a year later that five G comes to my town I've got that full of Britain. Yeah I mean not prepared for my five G does come out there's going to be hiccups along the way so I'm up against her influence your purchase decisions you know tomorrow. Give me an example how many times or use somewhere in again not necessarily in and around in the agency but maybe year you know driving somewhere. In year pulled up your phone to take a look at you know kind of something. And your phone doesn't have LT unit but it says three G. That means you're on a previous generation. Right that he think about where we spent most of our time. We spent most of her time in the off slow to a lot by what we do right but and that why Google five G now and down -- now different note no. We we need to have a refresher on I don't think yeah the wide five. Were connected right now to rate land line rent and supplies are Wi-Fi on boat load I have five G and I now know why. That would be dumb they make that's what the security connected. When we all faster five G is not going to be faster in the connection you get from like eight Gigabit Lan. Speaking of speaking of fast if you guys download via Iowa stroll saw I did it's we did chuck told me yesterday a little faster it's good to take a long time have you got it takes like 2030 minutes has gone and you're so close yet. Bill. Creepy so if you go into your photos there's new search option in there and if you click on it you can type in the words of for example by type in the word three. It pulls up all my pictures that have treason. Well I just typed in dog. In Altidore but particularly. Are they going wider energy czar if I take it maybe it's just real picture I have pictures and attacked in Bay Area nothing came up it's good. It received no nothing for Tucker ulyetza as a safe. But it goes a little creepy there those explosions that we're talking at the gas explosions or talk about last Friday yes did you forget who's gonna pay for the Miami. You're missing envelope line mostly waiting he might not get all the rent until the tenth or fifteenth of the month furthermore if your landlord on vacation your racing your notebooks two would you rate does is it really digitize and they'll. We're being corrected on the text lines anyone writes my apple watch lasts and he's got an apple watched three year she does. That lasts two days on church on interest in. 77 forces bear rarity paid from an opponent in following the UPS tracking number price get on Friday. That's it that you usually gets there. This one seven it won and now I get my son's iPhone hand and he's getting new access and I'll get his ex that that sounds backwards to me an option you send your hand me downs. They hit me yet they are you get another reason and I have young people wanna have the coolest and best phone. Now anyway. Let's about Columbia gas the unity they have obviously if you issues. Related to the explosions that occurred in. You know men and over and more slow down week. But I wonder if there entirely to blame and the reason I say that is. They went to the state and said hey we need to put more money into infrastructure and we need to raise rates accordingly. In the state I don't know if you notice folks but the state dictates. How much money Columbia gas is allowed to invest in improving their system. I think this is Columbia trying to. Hurry up some public favor in their opinion it it I don't know Internet editor for thirty years I've been buying stocks in utility companies this is not a failure of infrastructure. This is an over pressurization situation while we don't know they know it is a week two years TNT Friday he said. It looks like an over price allocation case but they're still doing their investigation a full investigation could take as long as 12 years. So I was chatting with a buddy of mine whose uncle works for not Columbia gas before one of the major. Gas companies in and pretty much she was looking at the news feed. And said and this is a political quote discuss actually got one from him he said that he thought that it was likely that Columbia had accidentally connect today high pressure line to a low pressure line. And it causes a chain reaction that all the house lines. They were shown didn't have the market to be able to handle high pressure systems and this was the likely outcome there yet so it again like. I know that you know Colombia's gazelle like we can do and this wasn't a maintenance. Maintenance problems don't cause an entire accountable no I understand that midnight my point is now somebody's yet paid the bill I think it should be Columbia. While Columbia that you mean stockholders yeah. A 100% 100% in what you know that won't happen I know won't but like I think about it what other incentive is there to have this not happen again. If if you don't make the people who are responsible for running the company responsible for this then you pretty much saying hey it's not really our fault we have we can do this again might knock on it is that the politicians get involved and they dictate. How much a privately traded company or publicly traded company. Is going to be allowed to oaks to spend on infrastructure for. That that that it has is not an infrastructure and infrastructure problems when you have one bad line that fails and there's an explosion now this wasn't one bad line this was a whole pound had a three whole towns had to be evacuated. That's not one bad line where hey we had a maintenance failing grade this is we messed something up to the point where three towns were literally blowing. And I understand that you know. We don't invest enough in maintenance we don't but this is not a maintenance prop what does this do to the natural. National Grid workers need the they'd been locked out since was it June or July. Think the end of June. You talk about guys that do this very work yeah. And they have reported over a hundred violations. Safety violations. Well I'll tell you puts them in in the catbird seat if if I'm looking at it in the and the reason why. Is if this is not a maintenance is using lately to this wasn't caused by Maine if this was caused by non qualified unqualified people. Doing pour work. These 12150 workers who are left you know who are locked out right now. There's a qualified. And ended it was the you're saying the your suggestion is that the Columbia gas problems human hair yes and ends his defeat now you've got all these. People doing the work for National Grid. That are not. In the union and not trained to the same degree what do you have an accident now with one of these Nash who would National Grid kills right you'd you'd need to get these guys back in there if if I'm sitting there just for PR wanted to let him back in and start negotiating partners in these guys say they were gonna work under the old contract and they've been locked out by their employer and their employer. What makes National Grid look bad in this instance is they did it July. Knowing that hey you know we're not we're we're not under pressure. To to provide a lot of heat right now would you be doing this in January or February well in next woody figure next month. With the exception a chart next month Tucker normal people like you and I we're gonna turner Hedo. Mr. President next month as the normal time it'd turn on the heat chuckle turn on sharper if he's lucky but I I just think. I I wonder what I wonder how national Grigory because there are already getting political heat to right. Governors in yeah govern you've got the the the state attorney general Massachusetts is involved as well but here here goes straight. If you pay these guys they and your electrical and isn't again isn't this the exact reason why you pay for qualified people though the iPhone I just explode but I want to point out. To people 'cause people you know if I beat everybody wants both sides of the trade right now I know everybody wants cheap electricity and reliable electricity. But he which you can't pass now and they want cheap gas and reliable natural gas weekend have you actually you can't just not New England he. True that's that's a different failure that's that we don't have enough pipelines so everywhere else you can have cheap natural gas New England you can now anyway what will keep an I have just at. It's an interesting story. To fall because you look at these utility companies and I'm not just talking about natural National Grid today in virtually. Hey how many publicly treaty utility companies he used to be about twenty or thirty new shoes for. There's got to be probably somewhere in terms of like your big guys are still probably. Fifteen or so and then there's a whole bunch smaller ones that are out there that are remember reading the annual reports haven't read one for a while. Speed reader court released and they would all scream bloody murder we need more money to invest they are not allowed they all have billions of dollars in deferred maintenance I think it again we are talking last year about the number of gas leaks in and around the boss there and if it's in the thousands. There's roundup kill you. Well a court just said it dead were a talk about the impact that may have on fire. That's next on the financial state. Life goes on FaceBook and followers on Twitter. Time now for Wall Street watch a look at the market's performance so far today until Berrian jug right here on the financial exchange radio network. Michael Armstrong is now with those from Wall Street watching Mike I'm gonna start off with a company that is up nearly 500%. Over the last month that company is till ray who are they what do they do in wire avail. There's morrow the smaller size. In terms of marijuana companies perhaps they're bit larger burden they're small company out of Canada that is. Canada's medical company on yesterday gave what approval from the DEA to begin importing some of their products the United States protesting this. Specifically medical testing so it stopped a big. 30% yesterday their opening emotional nearly 38%. Today after an interview. The Jim Cramer talked about you know other companies started to get into the marijuana can best industry specifically but CEO tolerate reciting. Say beverage industry and the pharmaceutical industry. Started to get and as they see it as a real hedge to depletion of their existing business due to be. Just the popularity. Canada these days in both pharmaceuticals. Settings as well as that beverage. This company by the way now we're twenty billion dollars despite only having ten million dollars in revenue last quarter's so Smart easterners order. Investors be way air. Cope part down 13% today what's going on there. So Coe park effort enough Miller one of the largest US auto salvage company so they've run allowed junkyard that you have some in other parts the world as well not just the state based company. They reported earnings static came at a 109 dollars at a 109. Billion dollars or forty cents a share. And these religious missing expectations here we haven't gotten a lot of details from the CO and that they waited this came and bad. Mr. across the board terms of both earnings and rent and do so just will be a concern there is again at a company has gone pretty substantially over the last year. They even after the is that still up 60% year over year Mike thanks for joining us. Mike Armstrong with Wall Street watch. Yet early poll results we asked the question will you be buying what are the new iPhone being cocked and thus far thirteen twelve and A half percent of our audience will be buying one of the new phones. That's it. If I can't figure if that's higher or lower than I was expecting now. You know it's obviously not everyone buys new phone every year one of the worst things you can do though is by it on the initial launches and in what way believed to wait in line it's not your pre order. Make a pre ordered have been shipped right to be a do it on and on line yep yep. Exactly so. You know in terms of if we look at the global Smartphone market. Out boy makes up about 15% of it. If you look at it domestically. It's a very different story apple has about 40% of the domestic market but internationally you know it's it's not nearly as popular as because the price. But you know it's the question is how many of that 40% domestically actually buy new ones each year and didn't know if if it was a two year upgrade site you'd say okay half remarked yeah. But it's kind of become must read for your upgrade cycle so I guess. You know it's probably out of that 40% I guess I would expect maybe thirteen to 14% so I think our audience numbers are right on. Buyer is stepping up their legal fight over round now if you recall roundup. Is it was manufactured by company called Monsanto and we probably all have. A bottle roundup. In her garage right that we keep that my dad used to use all the time grown up he'd come out you know up about him you must values and weeds are gone I still use superlatives to. And so we we we we all haven't read it's in our garage turns out. It may cause cancer. And as a matter fact there was a lawsuit. In a judgment against. Monsanto for 20989. Million dollars. Yes and in there's a whole run of debate as to whether or not this cause cancer even if you go went and talked to medical professionals certain organizations say it probably does and others say it probably doesn't. So we it's it's the latter takes hear word judge rule right where you have a case but discuss the judge rules doesn't mean that it does but it does mean that the jury found pay practices you know and that there's enough evidence in our opinion or to you know say that this man was entitled to this award. Because there's 8700. Other cases pending. And in this is really the problem for Bayer at this point. Is bearer by its buyer tactically but I called Bayer. All of you called Bayer not call buyer general confuse effort and and we did eventually somebody will figure out is there a middle ground. And think some buyers the Pernod correct penalty ever said there. I know that it's it's wrong but we've all said there. And then as watching Bloomberg went on and they pronounced a buyer because that's what they call Germany maybe by air like I am no buyer now look and it. Anyways there's 8700 plaintiffs in the United States and the concern if you are buyer Argo was. Is there they will go to effectively forming class action lawsuit here. And you could end up something very similar to what we saw with the tobacco lawsuits in the tobacco settlements back in the nineties where it's at bad. You mean you potentially could be it could be that it depends on who what the sign it says yeah it in that's the real questions so. I don't have enough information but he kills weeds in a reasonably that could kill human. Is it too late to get involved in the purchase of candidates related stocks he artillery that is run way up in price canopy growth has run way up the price. And a lot of money is chasing these Canada stocks but on the other side of chuck you've got a lot of short sellers who are saying hey. We think this is just the bunch hocus pocus and we're gonna short the stocks. And in this is a dangerous time to be a short seller as well okay the reason being if you are let's say that you wore a short seller what is that exactly entail let's talk about. So if you want to short a stock. You are betting that the stock is gonna go down in the mechanics of it. A pretty straightforward what you do is you borrow the shares from some OK and you pay them interest you pay them interest you sell those shares into the market now. With a promise to buy those shares back in the future in the new give the shares back in closed out the interest let's talk about that so let's say you bought the shares for a hundred dollars. If you borrow the shares for hundred dollar. You're darn certain that the shares are gonna go from 110. Points or what your betting is that you're going to sell those shares in the market at a hundred now even if you're already sold out and you get the cash for you get the cash and then you can closed up myself by buying them back ten later around how long do I have to buy them back indefinite. But you pay interest. While you're waiting for that to happen and on the stocks would be pretty high rate of interest you see interest rates on the east north of 20%. Okay what that means let's say that you bought till ray announced that Jia I think this is gonna go down if you hold per year and it is down less than 20%. You might make money on that the old on the trade but lose money overall because of the interest that you have to pay. Now the other thing to be careful about when you're shorting stocks. What the stock goes up OK you have potentially on limited losses because you have to buy that stock racquet you sold it at a hundred and I think those 2000 he'd like you gotta buy those back so be careful that the phrase that is used often in these situations. Now okay. Markets can remain irrational for a longer than you can remain solvent from OK just because a stock is irrational. Does that mean you're going to be right about it right now so be careful. When we come back or be talking about the Department of Justice opening heat probe as a relates to test what does it mean for Tesla stock. And more importantly what does this probe mean to mr. Announced that they had opened a probe of Tesla. Ask after. Ilan mosque back in August had said we're going private and where and by the shares at 420 dollars a share. Bloomberg News earlier reported the same day. That the Justice Department had opened a criminal investigation against us that to me when I see the words criminal that tells me somebody's going to jail. No not good. Knock at the stocks. I I don't know how people keep whistling past the graveyard on tassel. What about this makes people feel good I don't check I'm a mass in the question yeah it is at the stock is up. People see you know the analysts that you talked to that are bullish on Tesla. Will say do you hate all I care about is the October 30 number which is how many cars to Jamaican the last quarter. To which that's what we find out get to two which I I guess. Maybe I'm more disappointed analysts than anyone else and think why are we looking at the number of cars that are meant they don't make any money on the cars. They lose money on every car every one of these new model threes they make they lose money. And that's supposed to fill me with confidence that the making more of them while they make more than lose less per car to still lose money list so why I look at it it's just. At some point you've turned bearish on them. I bearish on for about a year now you know and and I try to remain neutral I try. Studies I just think the big thing with them this is a company that needs liquidity at some point in order to continue to operate. Where they can again. But I don't notre that I and I understand I look at the bonds and look at the pricing of the bonds and that that's always supposedly. It's historically. The price of the bonds. Have always kind of been a precursor to the value of the stock. And have the bonds are down I mean it's it's trading like a jump ball right now which means it's got pretty good. Chance of default. It's just that you the question that you have on this this was a company that was built on the back to you on mosque. Being the unbeatable CEO who had an answer for everything you could solve every problem and deal with everything the came up. And the guys a break guy he is he is he's it I I put him in the genius category and thus. You almost is never had to deal with one of the questions I'm on the big baseball fan cut and one of the questions as you have you know new players new prospects that come into the game is look how we begin to deal with adversity because most guys who come into Major League Baseball and they've been on every all star team since they were three years old you know they were point two levels up and everything and that's you want you on was always two levels above the competition he was always better than everyone else. But he's never do you the first these publicly traded company he was kind of one of the guys behind the hole PayPal thing he was but PayPal was sold to eBay ready in Abu Jamal is a publicly traded public right I'm talking about the of the design of the business and he's critical that operative question is can he. Feel a CEOs role in for a publicly traded company is I don't think you'll be alive to be based on what we're learning. It would appear with what would you say the odds are that he is still CEO of tests. I don't know 1224 months. That alone. A date yet it doesn't help they need to bring in a Sheryl Sandberg. I would say here's the thing you want has so much control of that company that unless someone comes in says you have to do this well which is DOJ might it's I put it it's somewhere in the range of 5050. I would see I wouldn't even odds that high I think I will be fifty fit I think there's a very strong likelihood. That the SEC says. But you can still work there and you can be in product design it and you can run the assembly line. You're having nothing to do with talking to investors and B you're not even going to be on the board. I I think he's losing is I think he's not going to be on the board of easy meal chair of the board anymore. Well again I think that there's a huge conflict of interest when you look at Heidi BC EO and board. Technically there's supposed to you know he's supposed to have that separate I just don't see him surviving illness be it if the end less the accusation accusations are completely untrue want it here if he can prove. That he had this funding lined up. Then he's gold so let's play that string outlets say that you on doesn't survivors then I had this tussle survive what also they have aside from you on mosque. And no motive lost all their executive trying to you know 43 executive department in he's the person every investor was buying into lake. This if you want a company that's a great case of like the key man being you know. I don't know if he's great at managing adversity when it comes to the public relations stuff that he's been through. Speaking of managing adversity. How as UPS going to manage the fact that Amazon just bought 20000 Danes delivery. Well let me tell you that if this is a quote and I'm gonna moved to talk about FedEx is well. Because there was a quote from FedEx in this is specifically. From the vice president and chief marketing communications officer. Who said quote. That Amazon should should not be confused with competition this delivery service there. How can it not be. First of all. That is going to be what is in blaze of lake went when you open up the business school case for what this is going to become and that's gonna be the first headline right there. It was a never gets in to businesses. Because they think oh we're gonna dominate this area bigot and businesses because they say hey it's gonna make it easier for us to do this you talk about their server business EWS. They didn't get into that because they said we wanna be the biggest and best server company in the world. They said hey we have a problem. In that the servers that we're using from other people. Keep crashing around the holidays we have so much demand so does it look let's take it in house and then they had all these X service line around all year and they said gee maybe will rent those out there. In this case. The prom that Amazon has they say look we can't get deliveries to our you know our doors as quickly as we want to lose and they say. We're gonna build you know a fleet of 20030000. Fans. Outsourcing a little local companies know handle this. I got down and kind of play out the string on this nice say this the same thing is a WS they want to build these fleets in order to deliver their own goods. But at a certain point they're gonna say hey we have some extra vans that are sitting around and are down time yeah what are we use and undercut FedEx and UP. Like and we I see it happening so we easily we can use lower margins yeah. Cheaper labor right to not do labor unions know the things that they done much for how Long Will get away with this but. The way they're subbing this outbreak yeah. And they're saying two Y can apply right Ike Ike could I can laughed at 101000 dollars so like it if I can go to Amazon and say hey I wanna buy when your fragrances yeah and they hire me in. All the sudden on running when there your mind bands from them and boom all of us and then buys you give them together you and boom they're off to the races per 101000 dollar capital investment. I'll tell you what the they're gonna have eight in you know they've got literally thousands of people who applied for those jobs not even jobs in this franchise quote from the FedEx guy the global infrastructure technology capabilities announced that need to compete in our business quite extraordinary and we've built up over forty plus years. That's just Huber saying hey no one else can do we do someone else always can do what you do well in this thing to remember here folks. Is they can do with much lower profit margins FedEx has dividends that they need to pay out to their shareholders Amazon not burdened by. Will be back the Dow is up a 173. Hi this is chuck and Mike from the financial exchange were here to talk to you about the questions that you need to. Asked to potential financial advisor Mike there's a lot of different types of advisors out there. And one of the big questions that I think people really need to pay attention to. Hole for your client but they must in fact be in the client's best interests can give me an example of how a fiduciary approach may differ from someone who's just acting as a broker for client. Yeah absolutely so when you take the case of Sam broker they have a slew of different investment options that they can use and let's say you're comparing two different mutual funds and they might both achieve the same objective. But one of them might pay the advisor 5% commission and one of them might pay the 3% commission. Under those circumstances the broker's fee no free to choose that 5% product because it pays him more. Whereas the fiduciary is going to be in a place where they must choose that product that is truly in the message their client and if they don't. Then they stand to face legal repercussions. Will we failed talk about is the impact it's having on their agricultural industry we'll talk about that today. Ross and take a look at the retail sales season Christmas is right around the corner. And some of a gun if Netflix shares did not rally as a result of their and the performance. Hi everybody it's Berrian chuck with you here it's Wednesday morning. And chuck in my gonna have to pay more for my cigars more for my Turkey dinner more for my chickens as a result of working for yes. Could be yes it is it is a lot of chat and it albeit it will be a and so 3.4 million chickens drop in the bucket. Yummy chicken treatment diploma from the US media I don't like why do I have the feeling talker that he might. But just checks always fun facts it's about 300 point five million chickens. That we you know we we go through about four billion chickens a year so 3.4 is not. It's it's something that's going to be supply chain disruptions a lot of is a lot of eggs all kinds of winners and losers we haven't pigs did lose five to 500. Which is. It's a lot of pigs. But it's not the kind that disrupts so much so you can see slightly higher prices on chicken especially if you're in that area I learned to have an impact of tobacco. You know it is. If it. You're right the end in terms of pricing may do pay a penny a pound more appealing more. But if you're a former. Lost all those chickens right or you're the party sued the tobacco numbers the tobacco these guys wiped out. The tobacco was not harvest no it's like it's a whole year's crop on cotton. Now I think cotton cotton gone you know. These in the farmers down there are getting crushed yet 50% of the tobacco produced in the United States homes from North Carolina. And tobacco production long represented at 724. Million dollars. To the State's economy and we generally make the best to back who wrote it in that like our R&R cigarettes the cigarettes globally talking on I I at night you know enough. It's always been our reputation. I would imagine that he wants Chinese cigarette. It no I never sent it and about it chuck Cassidy is a very united Japanese think no I don't know not gonna have any cigarettes or you go to Lou if you go to Japan and China you know smoke Marbury this welcome our programs the is that all produced from the US again as don't know. We're we're being so I'd imagine where all that but we do little research Ohio until find out where all the tobacco that is for a it was a bad idea on my part. Christmas is right around the season and retailers are expecting one point one trillion dollars in holiday sales. That would be an increase of about five to five and a half percent Tucker the had a guest re gonna do trillion won in retail sales carrier big trouble. I am big trouble and I so yup we still make the best I don't care much as we we might make the best guess how much tobacco production comes from the United States global percentage 13%. I'm good wanted to talk 3% fifty. Well we can have different gases Tucker said Trieste at fifteen it's about 7%. UN prices are in the country that produces the most tobacco each year and this is from 2014 Brazil China and I would not buy Chinese to back China produces half of the world's tobacco would you buy Chinese to back which are. Love Chinese cigarettes number two is Brazil and number three is India United States for and then rounding at the top ten in the Asia Pakistan mall Malawi. Argentina's Zambia and Mozambique and well all right so tobacco were not hurt by. Retailers ready for one point one trillion dollars in holiday sales. You know the online shopping. Is becoming a larger and larger percentage in long lines Christmas sales this year gonna increase by about 20% it is it continues just to become a bigger and bigger piece of the pie here retailers I remember what used to be really unusual to do your Christmas shopping yet some would say a word to get the DO OM is on the U Hugo. On him was ten years ago who is like the it was duke five years ago people started doing it. Now it looks like it's gonna represent what may be 1213% of all sales would I'm curious about. Is we've we know the amount of that it's yes going to be about 1213% of all sales and I'm curious to see here then. In I don't know if we have any data on this we know how much is coming from on line sales order what percent of online sales. Mobile I'll interest people sit on their phones Ngo Monday you know. The way fair opera on the Amazon app you know I've I wonder what percentage is just mobile as opposed to him sitting down at the end of the day in and my desktop computer. I wonder. I. If you talk to the ladies. And I'm referring to my wife. The end came carrying used to do this all the time too they like to have the big screen. Maybe the ladies like to have their and their commute when their shopping when their shop on line that they and that's just my personal observation I mean it depends how. How long shopping. You know if if I know what I'm getting like I need to go on ams and get bird seed or need to go on Amazon to get. Paper towels and they go on the phone but if I'm sitting there and I say gee I'm a little curious you know what gifts I can find more my wife for what's out there for. My parents I might use the desktop because it's easier to see everything that. It depends how dependent tea in my styles I think search results or users see on it desktop computer do you know. 134. Billion in online sales this year who beat John a 110 billion last year so continuing to see increasing numbers. Netflix shares up 5% yesterday is all dude just to the Emmys it. Some what you also did see a couple upgrades. Of Netflix stock is well is that because of their and the performance. I don't I didn't read the analyst reports on why. You saw these upgrades happening so we based on their Grammy performance you think we're getting another price -- we've had one would have been two years that it origin which is Willis here now. Scholar mr. Fisher last year as this year like three months ago I think knows. Longer now. No V the the date they obviously make a lot of good content. Eight that they do I mean look they they had 23 Emmy wins it tied each BO for the most this year. You know so that's good company have HBO has been the top award winner for the last sixteen years what HP all spending fraction of Netflix they are and and this is it's a vastly different strategy is yet HBO. You watch any HBO shows you know they come out with you know two or three years that are kind of really big productions and an additional maybe ten to fifteen they're probably put together at I would imagine twenty shows a year somewhere in that ballpark. Netflix what we find out lap yet the other day they're putting out a thousand new shows each year. Yet but yeah some ordinary is like seven under a thousand tomorrow yet that it's it's great having absolutely no holds HBO. Time Warner so now who who owns Time Warner now AT&T and why they wanted to news just like it wanted to the big part one wanted. Is that age he would they wanted the content. Creation zeros calorie content you have a date the problem is that's related to human beings and those human beings can go work for Disney here they go work for Netflix but what's true. One more time. BO who makes the content for each for each meal human beings rate talent. With the same is Netflix right but that talent can leave and go to work for Netflix Netflix can afford to pay more. I I don't know HBO pays pretty it pays people pretty well I mean he seemed to get thrown budget like I think the game of drones budget is like 150 million dollars a year and yeah it's based they spend top dollar. They they've they've got some pretty big budgets there that there's a reason why HBO puts out so it's good content now they spend a big chunk of change on their stuff. He seemed to see how AT&T screws it up. Hit it it does kind of have that feeling goes like you just want him to be hands off like don't touch anything like just what is do what we wanna do you talk to any small company that gets bought by a big company. And invariably. There's a brain drain and a talent departure. Does the EEE if you liked working for HBO maybe it was because it wasn't owned by AT&T. And now all of a sudden the CEO of AT&T is gonna start and fingers and spa. Let me keep my Time Warner is not exactly it's like you were owned by a pretty big company before hand and you know so it's I could understand if HBO or a standalone. Where it was hey you know this is you know everything bed but. Yeah they were owned by Warner media. For. Think of the last thirty or forty like it was a long time I think and I don't know exactly how long. You know but it was a wild that they were owned by the so they've never been you know small company but you do worry about AT&T messed up. How much money. All murdering an and also now in West Palm Beach, Florida. Check out our website at financial exchange showed Doug come and find the station closest to you. This is the financial exchange radio network. We have a couple big studio guests today we're joined by Paul and teel whose. President and CEO of the cooperative. Credit union association but we're also joined by Alice Bonner. Who's the secretary of the executive office of elder affairs for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts I wanna thank both the view. For coming in today to talk about kind of a sensitive subject. Yes are we are. We sometimes talk about this as elder mistreatment. Because when we say elder abuse it does sound a little bit scary right evokes. The other thing is sometimes people think that if we say elder abuse it's only physical abuse and in fact elder mistreatment can be. Physical abuse sexual abuse emotional abuse. Financial exploitation or not collect herself neglect. And Paul that's where you come in right eat your organization came in and said hey. You know whose word we're not going to be involved in terms of what's going on in the house physically but. If we see signs of financial abuse we wanna educate. Our employees on that subject. Absolutely elder financial abuse is a forty billion dollar a year problem it's probably a lot more than that has a lot of it goes on report features people are shame things just don't get reported. And financials are so important to everybody right Elise is so many bad things BF financial problems elder financial abuse to me is the linchpin to a lot of other issues that can happen to an elder. So credit unions are so locally plugged in with their communities they really are because they their individual consumers are things that make it. It's the their credit union member. He lives in the town. Sure and has been a member for forty years from when they wrote sheet metal worker so many of our tellers know their kids and their families know anniversary date so they get a feeling of when something's happening. And we're disappointed you know last year start talking a lot about this we hear from our tellers. You know boy toy see these bad things happen and I'm not really sure what I can or can't do give us an example so maybe somebody comes in and there with an elder in the get asked to put on the elders account as a joint account holder which is very dangerous because they have a lot of opportunities to do things. Maybe somebody comes in and you know the elders transaction history for thirty years. And all the southern make a big withdrawals three weeks in a row you know what's going. There's lots of little things like that that our people pick up on yeah. Now fortunately there was bill passed in congress this year real talk about have not like it's done in Washington DC the one good thing that got done this year. They passed a bill that would condemn the five. Financial institutions if they see elder financial abuse and they can be a little more proactive take action without any fear of any legal retribution where does that would. Beat the concern a person's right here you come in and you see what you think you suspect might be financial abuse. And it turns out not to be new worried about the suit yes right in his eyes as good as that for it if the credit union managers has to have that in the back of his mind. Her mind right it does happen where you can be wrong right this a family member you weren't aware for did not know where they are trying to do something at their house that you weren't aware of so. But this gives us that ability dispute little more proactive and had brought to be wrong and then not report not to write stuff. That's really a great point that's a point that we make a lot in in our programs out in the communities. Natalie with bankers but with other people that. You don't have to be absolutely sure that something bad was going on in is just if you see something say something as the saying goes. Alice can you give us an example though lakers I read in this area I was reading an article. And it said that senior citizens lose nearly 37 billion dollars a year. As a result of financial scams. And. Terrifically. It sounds like a lot of this happens within the family meaning it's. Nephews nieces my gosh it must be kids in some instances. If we do sign that financial exploitation. Over 50% of that is. Either an adult child or someone else in the family so it is something to be very mindful of and that's why Paul's. You know that. The suggestions about the wade that a credit union our local banker can identify. A sudden change in all of a sudden and nephew from California is here and signing onto the counter making withdrawals with someone. That should be a flag that could be respect. What happens Paul somebody walks in and they've got a legitimately. Exe cute power of attorney. To write over that seniors finances and all the sudden they start cleaning up at a cash or will believe it or not even if you're honest a joint account holder right you could still be prosecuted if you're taking those funds and then that you shouldn't be right that could still be researched him prosecuted so just Fisher power returning just sheer joy holder. Powers you can't still be prosecuted so. But McRae is standpoint it makes it all that much harder. To deny them getting out to the count. Right so that way you do still have the ability to call authorities call people and in the right to it but it does make it harder for sure. Because we've seen instances I personally observed instances where. You know that the family has gone to court to take. Take take take take the financial. Capabilities of the senior citizen away because they they're suffering from dementia or alzheimer's some kind of. And it might be self neglect it might be that the in the cases of a good family they're trying to secure those funds. To actually be able to care for that Paris appropriately so. Again these are complicated. Tricky cases and the one thing that's so important for people to know who are listening is that. Please report. Let's talk about the art and protective services because. Let the protective service workers in agencies can and local law enforcement if that if it you know could be a criminal activity out let them do their investigation. And we've strengthened some of our protocols to be able to. Do our investigations. More efficiently and work with local communities. To be able to kind of get to the bottom of these cases he need give us an example Alice in the case that a real life case you've seen in the last couple years. Well a day and we we do you see cases where suddenly. A typical type of case and has suddenly someone. Moves into the home who is a family member. And now that family member is dependant on the elder for their housing for their rants and maybe for other things in their life and so. That set up where there's only one person going in and out of the home and the elders otherwise isolated. You know can defend that person goes into the credit union with the help her so. That the signs and symptoms the things that that that banks and credit unions can watch for are those kinds of sudden changes or. The elder comes in and looks very disheveled young and other coming in with the family member posted to the red plaques. And it is challenging because there are times obviously with a family member is there to help yeah right. I was I went legitimately yes I went to this personally Lehman bros Bafana dementia for two years could not do his finances anymore. I was the person did find it justice in my background and but technically I could have done a lot of bad things ready in an environment when I was there to do the right things there are failures and I was doing as good for the out of prison not hide their bills everything's been paid. So that whole dynamic is important the best thing possible would be. Is if somebody was. Introduced the financial institution earlier this process cronies have week becomes sort of a friend of the count don't know who you war. As well as the elder and that can be done earlier when we talk about the state planning it was hosted about reality. But also talked about who could be given access these counts earlier on they don't need yet. But it gets death familiarity with the financial. Team and that's great advice we give that advice to you know we go out to. Lots and lots of senior centers and other community centers and local public libraries anywhere we where we trying to get the word out trying to get the word out and that is just terrific advice advance care planning on financial matters and we have programs also like our money management program. Where if you go to year your local senior center for a year your asap which is your eighteen service access point the elder services agency. They can connect you with someone who is part of a legitimate agency that can help you manage your finances there are also private companies that do this but. We have a number programs like that through the state from people who are low income we don't want anyone just going. Two. To anyone who might be you know not well intended sure. It sounds like it's it's that a matter of access to information like a lot of things in life. Right you're trying to find out who'd like go to when I see where it when I suspect something bad is happening. Who'd like goat to and how to lie try to help that situation. With that vote. In plunging on somebody's privacy to its right to privacy issues so we have again we have our statewide. Elder services. Elder abuse hotline. And I think we were gonna show the number on the CIA's it's post on our screen Tucker do you have that phone number two we can give that up the next segment the unity. We'll do is in the next segment when we come back I want ask questions about. The involvement or how much drug addiction has to do with some of this elder financial abuse will also. Give you a phone number that you can call if you suspect. Elder financial abuse in your community. Hi this is chuck and Mike from the financial exchange were here to talk about some of the questions that you need to make sure you ask a financial advisor if you're considering hiring one and Mike what are the big questions that I think everyone needs to pay attention to is who actually making the investment decisions when it comes to what goes in the client's portfolio what what. What types of different situations and be seen as far as who makes the investment choices in portfolios decline. It's taken very significantly mean everything from TO a small independent advisors action running all those portfolios and investments themselves to completely hiring that entire piece of the business out to a third party why it's important that you understand which what is happening is because you want to make sure a the person that's making the investment decisions has the qualifications needed to do so. Understands the markets maybe has a chartered financial analyst on staff and B if they're not doing it themselves are there any additional costs to using a third party for the service lets talk about that second piece of particular how much additional cost you end up running into if they're outsourcing that management uh oh well I mean I I've seen numbers as high as in other full. Percentage point if not more here in the case where say you're paying your advisor 1%. And they using a third party money manager you might be layering on an additional 1% cost mainly doubling the cost of investing for. Folks the question of who makes the investment decisions in a client portfolios just one of the questions you need to ask a potential advisor and our strong advisory group. At two guest in studio today I'm joined by Paul genteel whose three. President and CEO of the cooperative credit union association we also are joined by Alice Bonner. Who's the secretary of the executive office of elder affairs for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. They were talking about elder abuse. My question Alice has to do with chemical dependency drug addiction alcoholism. And it's. In. Act on elder abuse this guy I would think there's a correlation. Well. We we have colleagues around the country who are looking at this week don't currently have a lot of data. But anecdotally. We do hear people expressed concern about. Whether or not this is contributing to whether or not he'll be annoyed epidemic is contributing to the epidemic of elder abuse. We do know from research that in families went there is a history of chemical dependency. Alcohol as a matter drug abuse. That there that there is a higher risk for elder abuse takes center right yeah because if you're drug addict chances are he can't hold down a job. And we gonna go for your money to buy your drugs when these are and you know stressed families and care. And you know again we see. An addiction disorders as an illness and so there's illness in the family there's a lot of stress in that family. People trying to take care of one another and a lot going on so it does often lead to it it can lead to the risk factors. Alice can I give out a phone number that people can call me if it's fate if you're seeing it in your home or maybe you know that your cousin is stealing from your doctor eaten there's a lot of situations that you might observe their folks. I'll give you a phone number. In you can call this number to report we use suspect is elder. Abuse or absolutely this is our elder abuse hotline number for the entire state of Massachusetts effect and it's 180922. 2275. It's a centralized number anywhere in the state you are called that number or even if you're out of state. And you'll get an intake worker who will ask you some questions. And then apple be referred to are our experts are specialists in the protective service agencies in local communities. And they will determine what kind of investigation. Needs to happen next. You can do it on line it's massive dot gov forward slash elders but the phone number and give that phone number to you a few more times folks. If you have a situation and you're worried. That your brother. Is taking advantage of your mom your dad financially speaking or physically for the matter call 809222275. Don't allow it to happen you know it's it's one of those things he might say well now. You know I don't really want to report aren't just as you talk about your mom your dad your doctor uncle talking about a senior citizen who may not be able to stand up for themselves. 809222275. Is the number you should call. All I'd like to talk to you a bow out. What your association is doing with the credit unions that are members because I admire this program that you put together sounds like you're having some success. Yes so very proud of our readiness. As I think most people though cronies are not for profit cooperatives were a little bit different the typical financial institution we don't exist for profit. We exist for our members financial needs. And when our creditors and tell us these stories about all the elder financial abuse problems are seeing. Lisa what's the best way to tackle education regardless of the problem or deal with in the country education as it was a great place to start. So I commend them we contractor with a DC firm that deals with. Sort of social problems and try to educate people social problems. We create this interactive program. And it's a great program if you if you go through it and consumers can go through it it's hosted at a better values that are banking dot com website can they are pretty senior safeguard. At takes about an hour and a half but it's broken up into modules a year or ten minutes at a time ray and take the test at the end. So they said let's get let's educate people and Alice educate people let's get the word out about dress so lot of financial solutions are on the radio and TV saying hey come. You've all of us do things in this we're talking about elder financial abuse it because we really care about this and we see this. We see some really sad cases that's what got us to this point is that it as gonna ask you what was the Genesis for this to occur. A union just that you know that all difference or distort who we have a little but the followed the phone is something that L usually fall victim to a lot because I think they're lonely that was your responses virus scan do we all get Charles in. So we want treading into that the elder came in and they inform the credit that they won the lottery. It was Nigeria legitimately and they want to wire money they had all the attractions which was amazing and had everything written up perfectly. And the teller was concerned that called the CEO of the cronies CEO came down. And the person stale after being told this is not legitimate still wanted to wire the money. Ultimately the credit he did not do it it. But it was just such a wake up call you know and then we had another case where a a sign got an account of somebody who's with that crede forever. 35 year member. And had significant funds. And probably went down about 75% of the funds. Through various things some of them were very heart to this spot it was just being rituals and other things that money to different. And it's just disappointing you know you work so hard their whole lives so we believe education Natalie education to get the word out in Massachusetts. And I would sit in bed that we also have some efforts in other states very besides filling in Massachusetts New Hampshire Rhode Island Delaware are the states that we covered. We'll sort the bad actors to know you know Massachusetts. Alison hurt her group the commissioner banks recover Gloria. Everybody's really honed in on this so this is not the time it's never the time. But if you're in this position it worried that there's people looking at you all the financial institutions are looking at you know so you really can get yourself in serious trouble can look at to do this. And you know I think thank you for that they shout out there and we have funded protective services in this administration at a higher level than an ever before him you know two point seven million dollar increase most recently in order to. Continued to improve our protective service agencies and keep up with you know that the increasing our rates of financial abuse so. The centralized hotline is one of that improvements. We are doing increase training and all of a protective service workers and particularly Iran to mention we haven't talked a whole lot about that but. Upon and I were talking about that earlier we have so many more people with alzheimer's or dementia. We're just beginning you know cognitive impairment live 50% of the nine year olds are gonna suffer from dementia absolutely. And so those people in the community you begin to lose their their Chechnya it and their ability to talent something's wrong so. Back to the font scams from him when it pops up on the phone and it says. You know Medicare or Social Security that's the new scams so that the new Medicare cards that are going out you know people colony elder and say. I can send you your new card just send me the number off of your old card and of course that's a Social Security number so. This gamers get better and better and we just have to protect one another as policy education education education so. Not just at the credit union by your faith based organization what we do to the senior centers and the elder servicer can stations. It's it's everybody's responsibility in community it's not just. You know those of us who work in aging services it's everybody's responsibility to account for one another. It's another thing you know point out one of the challenge we have today new social media you know. There's so much information about people out there sorry but another phone scam we've seen this is quite common. An elder get a call from the frost there. Saying their grandson granddaughter asked is sheer hell yes man and we don't wanna tell their parents to demand and could you please let's get let's get this done quickly. Let's wire some money noted Jayne have associations they noted I actually get your face social media the Internet this is so you know whereas vacation in Mexico right now. So things like that all the information and harder you know to keep people isolated from these things. It's it's scary out there and you know allows you you mentioned. The phone scams and darn it easiest think to yourself well boy I would never fall for something like that. But these guys are good on the phone I got I got one of the calls them like. My gosh Tony do real money to the IRS they Legos by initial impression I get we we must go money and then I'm like our whole misses just ahead of the scam so so one of the atmosphere alone in navy or a little bit for ailment rent you played UB susceptible. Absolutely people are very susceptible one of the things to do now is. A large government agency like the I heiress or Medicare or Social Security will not call your house this show regular annual Rite Aid and so if it's a picket cross that off the list but you're absolutely right and people are lonely and isolated and that's another. Area where we do a lot of work but when it's the only phone conference comes a week at the only a person you're interacting with. It's hard not to engage in that conversation and that gets people to. I'm being getting texts asking me for that phone number again if you are aware. Of elder abuse them and give you the phone number one last time it's 800. 9222275. Paul you know I just want to compliment your organization for getting behind this project obviously very important and I know dear near and dear to your heart. In near and dear heart Freddie is financial well being is what we're about and we sir elders victimized is just totally. Against everything that we believe in this credit unions so again educations if we get educate people. But only not only the elders to caregiver she's our programs we design also for caregivers because those folks have to be on the look at as well there are also off to the last line of defense yeah. And they may not be a family member they may very lucky for it. For an agency that may be somebody placed in the home or. And they have big responsibility as well so. So it points and we have information on the elder affairs website and so again that same website that you gave before man stack of forward slash elders. And there's there's tips and information and we have a section for caregivers that also includes information. Elder abuse is preventable that is a very important message and we want everybody to get involved because as we know we can prevent this. This segment was brought to you by the CU senior safeguard its and educational program designed to protect the elderly from financial abuse. Through CU senior safeguard credit unions and Massachusetts New Hampshire Rhode Island and Delaware are training and certifying their team members. To recognize elder financial abuse and what to do in response you can do your part as well does it better banking. Better. Does it better what's the website better better values theater banking dot com is better values better banking dot com for more information. Paul and Al thank you very much. But I find something to be word soccer and that is the price of oil be ninety cents a barrel seventy dollars and 74 cents but just I. He in I have to be worried about the price of the election to do. And personal go out good. Late this as your long energy stocks now it's can I I I think that we have reached the point where it is a net positive for the country as a whole not the northeast but the country's whole. Where it's in net positive that oil prices go walk I don't care about the people like Texans who are out knowing I do what I want what ran for president someday I have to care about wild axis. 498 frenzy may have peaked. See I now know for me it is a demand that a carrier with a video. Correct that the free video game actually pretty much the most popular video game. Took root cause the last five years or so Alia are pro in the last five or six years yeah it's also the cause of many divorces. Did you eyes being cited in hundreds of divorce proceed hundreds as I say often times what is cited in divorce proceedings is not usually why people actually divorced and all the people said oh student loans the reason I divorced know your marriage was crapping your student loans Xstrata Bruce Campbell's back. Or how did they know it. For Knight has peaked. So some interesting data here and in this gets into the the wide world of people who watch other people play video how do you do that if I do what's called twitch but I've never like me just log on my view is a YouTube channel or something and yet I have DirecTV and I can't find with Google which. Click on it no one wants. Online it's not hard like it's right thank you watch it on DirecTV. Apparently they're they might happen now but it's you go on lines I just pulled up right now so I'm actually watching I just pulled up twitch. And this is it looks like I'm watching. Star craft's arm which is another reunion some watching two guys placed our for a and you watch different things and tortured Odeo looks like there's all kinds things I can watch right now there's one what is this something there's 570 people watching. As a food show opens on there this is a woman hugged it cat mark yeah going on there marching people play for her now. So yeah pretty much twitches a service that allows that nobody's watching and fort it and you know it's not that nobody's watching so to put this in perspective in July of this year. There were eight point eight billion minutes of fort night footage that we're watched. It isn't it people are more people are watching twitch. General election like CNN and fox and it's not even close it's knots so people would rather I'd just tell us I understand. People would rather watch somebody else playing video gain. Then watch new couldn't. Yes but think about it this way forty years ago in Europe parents were saying people would rather watch TV to go read a book or play baseball then. It's just like. You've become the old man now I know I become the ultimately I don't I don't understand us like a I have become the old man like I don't watch people play video games but. What happened was that the number of minutes viewed a four night games then went for eight point eight billion in July down to seven point seven to 13% dip. Over the course of a month which now. Probably isn't a great that you suggest something's going on maybe people just were outside more in August maybe people were doing other things. The second place game league of legends which I know nothing about so a 10% increase. In viewership. Over the month of August so it suggests a cave in Australia board of one game and they won election happens all the time now. America's five largest banks now control 47%. Of all banking assets that is up. From 29%. Chucked in the year 1998. To twenty years ago. What happened that he I know we had the financial crisis is this a direct result of the financial crisis he had a lot of banks merge. Yeah I mean some of this was ever Washington so this was the financial crisis some it was what happened smear even before then you know if you go through the list and implement the biggest bank mergers just kind of go through some of the ones that happens this is since 98 yeah let's take a look at some of the big one so. He hears a big one. 2000 chase Manhattan and JPMorgan. And U that's a massive transaction that's going on there but never fleet that 99 sweep in Bankboston. Okay. You continue going down the list and just looking for like some of the biggest ones like about Bank of America and countrywide that's when I'm I'm kinda am going from here on chronologically I'm going chronologically here just to see what some of the big ones Bank of America and Fleetboston near that was another one that you had. JPMorgan Chase and bank one I mean Banc one was a huge institutions and you know silly you have all these that we're going on. This is your next time is. Is this bad for American consumers. Yes he did it would seem to diminish competition if half if if you know five banks have 47% of all banking assets whose seemed to diminish competition. That's what they have in Canada and in all of candidates or half a dozen banks to regulation. Nokia its its very did in getting like Canadian banks are much more heavily regulate it's it there might like or Toyota company I was gonna say the much more like utilities than what you see. In the US at this point. I will say like. You do find some good deals local credit unions ya know it's it's it's not a bad place to look if you're looking for better deals then. I've used and I've found you know on home equity lines rates half a percent below what I can find another bank's. I've used them for savings accounts and easily get some good deals the only you can look around a credit unions and small banks and find some better deals. I think people got Condoleezza now well not surprising exposed. The Dow up a 190 points yes and he's only up five and oddly enough the NASDAQ is down eleven points at 7944. Oil trading at seventy dollars. And 74 cents a barrel I hope you already filled up here your home heating oil tank I did. Let's see will be back tomorrow with another edition of the financial exchange it's very Armstrong chuck exotic talker so the signing off for today.
