They wanna get paid you know what they're gonna get paid because. We have way more jobs available than we have workers to fill them hi everybody it's Berrian truck with you here. It's a Wednesday morning. And some of a gun seems like we've been waiting and talking about this for a long time. This afternoon throw 1 o'clock 1 o'clock yep we're gonna learn about the new full the new line film. And an idea when he is not that excited about this I'll be watching and plus for the show's sake but I'm not overly excited it's just like it's the the the updates each year seems so incremental you have point and it's. You know it it used to be. Oh now you can use multiple apps and own now you've got three G united get forgy now it's just. Hey we put an extra camera on you as you can you know take better sell fees are now you're going to be able to turn your face into a puppy and take the biggest development is the price more than any other coming down there are going up via so I haven't. If you bought the iPhone time last year then aren't you a little pissed off that I really tell it always is a break if you look at technology you always when you buy something that you buy TV this year and unify the same TV next 220%. Well yeah I I've got a TV that I bought ten years twelve years ago. And it's a big deal wall mounted TVP 5000 dollars for. 5000 let's get the same one out 300 off the aerial not have given to you no doubt they can. Like 800 bill they say significantly and it's not it is the TV today is much better terms of quality Aaliyah. Betty we're we're gonna let go the one thing that older consumers. Are excited about is. The larger screen we didn't get that offerings last year. No with Steve the iPhone ten date they didn't offer. A bigger screen beyond the five point eight inch when they're gonna have a six point five inch one now know that they are going to be offering. Now I generational. Productivity is somebody who's a little older who especially if you read the paper I used by phone to read the paper to read the sports section. Look at FaceBook where whatever is on doing I'm doing on my full so to get. Screen that's a little larger than mine I have totalled seven plus that's a big that's an upgrade yeah I am I wonder lake. I don't know who do they keep I was looking around for data on it actually I don't have data as to the splits you know demographically who buys you know which phone exactly. So I don't know you know who exactly is buying those larger phones in general. But I do know there's a lot of people like the larger form factor regardless of age it is good for apple have that this time. In order to be able to happen to them marked so we're gonna get all this information. Coming out this afternoon they're also going to be announcing they're expected to announce at least new iPad pros which is supposed to be pretty impressive. I believe new Mac books and also the new version of their operating system which Tucker it is a big one for you and make it's supposed to actually make older phones faster this time no good. Yeah IOS twelve very yet supposed to it's supposed to have speed improvements of up to forty to 50% on its articulate battery life like the last update did it probably will but. Not your fault but a I guess if you use your computer. All the gear you use your laptop well see your depth less reliant on your full. I just don't like to use mine and you know it's I hate your laptop you don't like to my phone my phone like. I I am close to I'm not there yet. But I can see myself within three to five years. Going back to a dumb phone. Yeah I'm I'm not there yet just as I don't have enough to figure out as far as exactly how I do some things. I'd love to go back to adult. The idea might banking on my phone may act I I'm very I'm becoming more reliant on my phone and less reliant on computers I'm still come down and I don't know if critical back to the dumb phone ways is a risk cycles work. If it's technology rationed like 93% Tucker yes very few of the simple phones out there I mean it's just a better product obviously. Small businesses. Are more optimistic than any time since they were under President Reagan. Yeah this is us and they that we got out from the National Federation of Independent Business they do a survey on a monthly basis. Of small business saying hey how optimistic are you at the moment. And this optimism index jumped 208 point eight which what does that mean they'll vote doesn't mean anything that attired in the record than a hundred of a hundred neat it was sent back to 1983. Some 35 years ago. Now the caveat arms OK I went back just investors who have not markets never knew after that. Markets actually struggled for about a year after that that number was hit them and it was only after the Fed started massively cutting interest rates. That the markets were able to rally in the latter part of the 1980s. You had the Fed taking interest rates from around 12% in 1982. Newton down all the way to 6% in 1980. Five wood business owners are concerned about is. Can the BB no they have to raise prices. In order to pay their workers because they're having to pay their workers more money. And they're having to hire more workers. And there haven't won dickens' of the time finding said workers he talked to any small business or care with the guys running it construction company. A restaurant hospital. A law firm of medical practice. Everybody is complaining gee I just can't can't find enough people hire where you the good part here Turkey's. Companies are doing with these to do in the old days which was there training. Workers imagine that we'll live and they have to now that's in it it's it's just the the economy in the environment that were in now is they have to do that. And quite frankly they're gonna have to innovate as well you know if you are a steel company and you say GM got to deliver a hundred tons of steel next week. And I can only produce eighty. We've got to figure it out you you've got to figure out ways to be more efficient and trying to is that. Wait truck may not be adding another shift because you mean appealed by the worker won't work at it but but I think that's good enough I think that's good like you should be week we should see I. You know I I would think that we're going to see some fairly substantial wage growth because. I do believe that business owners can raise prices I think they can come to chuck and say. Hey you're gonna pay a little more for that card and and talking you have to pay a little more for that computer you on a buyer and G if you want me to cut your grass and not gonna do it for fifty bucks it's gonna cost you 75. Do you think there's that much that much slack different pricing. Well we're gonna find out it's it's gonna be interesting because you know you look at the the budgets for the average American family is not a ton of room there are stale and so. I wonder how much they're able to actually pass this through from a pricing perspective. But I make the case there's plenty of power on the top end the give your servicing. The top 1015% of the American population yet they can pay. Correct it's the question is if you are anywhere aside from that. If you're you know bottom hazy there is there any room in in BO household budgets may be that bottom fifty is going to benefit from the increased wage and me the you know week we've got those National Grid workers router and strike we've got steel workers in in Pennsylvania they're saying hey we wanna get paid. Didn't and quite frankly they they need to get paid in order for this thing to keep chugging along beyond the next six months get a res that the bottom. Right there at the bottom half of America. Needs to make more money because they're the ones that spend every android yet. Look Henry Ford understood this he said look of I don't pay my people enough they're not going to be able to buy my cars so he understood this. The issue that you've seen in the last 25 years is has been a big shift away from shopping based on quality and we're shopping based on price. Which is led to the growth of places like Wal-Mart you know Wal-Mart didn't put local neighborhood stores out of business because they made better quality product. The put him out of business because they sold at half the costs like teacher for two bucks and so that the question in and it's it's somewhat of an existential question for companies like Wal-Mart and McDonald's if we pay our people enough if we pay our people living wage. Are they still gonna shop here. I don't know what the answer is on that night I think those companies are somewhat nervous about it because. I don't think many people shop at Wal-Mart because they love the Wal-Mart experience I think they shop there because they love the prices. Am and so I think it if you start paying people 2530%. More men who do they still shop there. Good question good question a Lou we'll see what happens but we do have a story. A steel workers. The 30000 members of the united steelworkers union. Say they wanna get paid more money from US the yeah they're they're saying look you know we've we've got higher profits in our business now we want thank you mr. trump we we want to be paid more as a result and this is someone expected you've said this multiple times. Labor problems don't happen in bad economies that they they happen in good ones because. The people who were actually got like products say these guys have let they are they say her time in twenty years you need me. And you've got. Profits that are higher than any time in the last five years. Amy Amy. And and that's exactly what they should be sent it's a company that and it I think we've we've been losing money for ten years how Butler given us a little bit of breathing room. It's it's nice that the company can say that is the company also ladies people off the second that things turn you know it's that there's no loyalty at this point oh. I am I'm of the opinion hate you only it's only bites of the apple of this is your chance I pulled out for more you think they get paid me 30000 workers. Yes. Yes now I do I think I think this is in the same boat as we're talking about you know the the nurses and at the the pilots and so forth that we've what are other options the. Everybody's gonna get paid if you've got a skill you're probably gonna get paid are you making more money than you did last year 62 point 5% of our audience or at least so far. Saying yes I'll make him more money than I did last year 37% say you know not. Participate in our poll by visiting our website financial exchange show dot com. To a seasonally adjusted number of six point 94 million so I rounded up I said they're seven million open jobs in the units it is a according to data from the Labor Department that is the highest level chuck on record back to the year 2000 and that's when they started trick tracking list. One in specifically when you look at the the areas where you're seeing increased job openings. It's pretty staggering to see the change from a year ago so you go back to July 27 team. July 2017 there were 391000. Manufacturing jobs open. Today it's 506000. To 25% increase in a span of a year. Not you going to trade transportation and utilities new truck drivers here lineman Leo all the all those people. Last year one point 138 million openings today one point 307 again up almost 20% there. You go down the list in its all these trades in his goal oriented jobs. That are not seeing in that are seeing a dramatic increases. You look at the places that are necessarily taught that way more of the services okay. You don't see the same kind of increases in financial activities pre 65 a year ago 378 today OK there's not much the shift there. On do you go down to a government job openings actually do see an increase there the 623000. Government job openings right now. 623000. Well and good economies people don't want to go to work for the government now because they don't pay is now so it's it's it's fascinating to see is it's it's almost across the board and all anything that were involves any kind of physical activity. You've got significant increases in the number of job openings and Euro per year. Any particular when you look at the rate of these job openings so in manufacturing. Previously 3% of jobs had openings. A year ago to 23 point 8%. Yes so you're seeing bigger and bigger gaps that are happening there in these places and it's it's not something that's going away anytime soon this is a trend that is here to stay. 978 says yes I've on making more money this year and I'll be making more money this October. You know be idiots it's interesting to see. I've always complained about the lack wage growth you know you leave for years we've heard the economy's getting stronger at the stock market was up memory yet. The great market rally under Obama yet. Nobody made any more money. Are you making more money than you did last year's poll question 64 point 7% of listeners are making arm that's good. I will say one thing to wat to watch on this is. If you look at where the bolt of tax revenue comes from homes typically coming from year is the top fifteen to 20% that's in it that's where most taxes are coming from. What's interesting. Part of this is due to tax reform. But if you look at federal tax collections. They're just about flat from last year at this point to a federal. A lot of late in masters thing goes up but it's it's something that's interest and there's some that's due to tax reform but it is something that bears watching it. A big company. Moving they're US headquarters to the Boston area we don't know exactly where they're gonna move to. But to Qaeda is moving out of Chicago were out of the Chicago suburbs and moving to Boston why would they do. Talent talent towel and I think that's the the biggest reason why this is not happening here they also have a lot of other employees here yet and they've they've got a few thousand employees that are already in the Boston area in crowd on 120. Also Cambridge and they've they've got me Cambridge's well. From from companies they bought up in the past and so forth in the Boston area. But I would imagine that if if you're talking about a company like this is Cambridge is it's it's going to probably be the final home feeling so yet that that Kendall Square is still signs it it doesn't matter if that's where the talent is now you know all all those violence or what kind of jobs they aren't I think that these are home office jobs these could be counting staffing need to arm personnel asked to do that have to be in the city doesn't have to but I I just think when you when you talk about you know again you're you're you're coming up with 88 corporate headquarters in actively for the United States. He's you don't see that often times in south groups it's it's hey you're at least today it's hey that was hilarious given in Waltham. Yeah Buick companies that are moving headquarters now GE moved to ball in a year you talk about this companies are moving their headquarters to cities now. I do the best thing I exceed insists they cost. And and you know if you if you're a day CEO of Decatur. Are you looking at it and saying well gee if I went to barber or I went out on 495 some work or. Would defy. Some of these people out in Worcester thing about the cost differential of Worcester to boss agree that still the Japanese think it did. Because the workers don't wanna be in Worcester we've sent I'd love to see more development in western spring Fiat is I think I think I think the opportunity and looking at wages have to be. I'm gonna say 20% lower to be more than that in if you went to Worcester rent is probably the work literally. The Robert do you think wages are lower for these kinds of jobs yes I think if you said to 'cause not that many people are gonna come for the little. Most of the Illinois workers are in state in Illinois in and go to work for somebody else is pixel the other night did two Qaeda said they're they're gonna bring some men and some people relocate. But again I think you're talking maybe hundred. Right so and if you're going from the little. To the Boston area Europe for culture shock I mean downtown Chicago east cheap compared to downtown Boston. Yeah that's terms a consulate yep yep that's that's fair I do think you buy a nice Condo and pass on Chicago I still think they're don't they're going to Boston to go to Cambridge now Kendall Square that that's worked all of the development is you know it's curious is Massachusetts. Is second only to California in terms of numbers of these jobs Aaliyah these Biotech job yes you gave Massachusetts has really. Doug and they are Smart NA they invest the money up front. They did they didn't they did not make money on this it originally and all know what you look at what it's doing now that. If you've got 69000. People in the Biotech industry in Massachusetts now. Let's have a 28% in the last ten years everybody knows somebody who worked for by yeah rate the in the may not be scientist you know some of these people are or accountants they're lawyers sharp people there administrative assistant. And they paid pretty well in either you know the day it's a high pressure job. We get a lot of good time awfully good in our business. You could never take the Christmas week as a vacation right EU we have to be if the markets are open world. You look at a lot of these tech companies in these Biotech company in action down the whole office for a week the they shut him down for the whole week of Christmas up sometimes they do part of the New Year's week and now. There's companies Biotech companies in order to remain competitive to talk about closing down for the entire week of July 4 yeah. Yeah and that's that that's something they do they have to pay competitively each. But what they're trying to do is create a very competitive work environment where people get a lot of time off. It's been. Tends to work at which you attract really Smart people to these companies he we're did you buy your Christmas tree a couple of years ago Yorkshire ordering an on line and I had a bad experience all I'm done with that. Time now for Wall Street watch a look at the market's performance so far today but I don't Berrian jug right here on the financial exchange radio network. Michael Armstrong joins us now for Wall Street watching Mike let's start first with discovery communications their six and a half percent today why one of the big bump. Yes or discovery communications which Jones of the Discovery Channel but also whole slew of other TV channel you might not be aware of about Food Network HTTP TLC Animal Planet Travel Channel. They signed an exclusive deal with who do begins streaming their channels. At a luncheon service. And because of that that docket. Six and a half percent so far today by the way issues buried gained almost 20% in the last thirty days and 45%. The last twelve. They'll sort of Science Channel which is one of my favorites to watch when I'm mom to get around look for something on on TV. Couple tobacco companies in the news as well Philip Morse and Altria. Both up north of 5% how come. Yet they've been struggling this year as we continue to he declined smoking rates but the FDA this morning. But bunch of bad. Just about sixty days to figure out. Why aid to address the Teaneck but echoing an epidemic of using these these cigarettes where they're gonna pull them from the market. So flavored electronic cigarettes specifically like Jules. If that industry doesn't combat the growing use by children in team so on that news Altria and Philip more or switch has. Some resurgence these products but not there are certainly not the leaders in the east cigarette market. Are both up on the news as opposites competition has gotten. A pre Easter morning the. Good thank you Mike. That is Mike Armstrong with Wall Street watch and realized those easings gotten as big as they had among among teens are huge in high school I had no idea now paved friend who's got a daughter. In high school and to become a problem and it is the almost treated as if it's a drug. Interest and interest a couple questions that we received on our. Comments regarding tax for a mean track for when three asked that question very how can half the people be making more money and tax revenues flat to the federal government is a part of it is because you have the effects of tax reform going through. In that page that is lowering the overall BO special court taxes we'll keep mind this is just personal that I wasn't looking at the corporate side but so you do have people who gathered there having less tax withheld from their paychecks and so that's part of the reason. Part of it also what's interesting. A big chunk of the federal revenue now. Columns from capital gains tax the people pay when they sell stocks when they you know things along those lines are in you have seen a slight slowdown in that revenue. For one reason or another part of it is because the stock market struggled in the first six months this year right so you didn't how laws are in the same capital gains coming through. But you also have had a slowdown in some real estate transactions. You know we're just not seeing as I heading. Yeah and in particular at the high end and so you're not seeing as much capital gains tax it's being paid. In those as well. I would think that we're gonna start to see decrease in some of our social welfare programs you know we talked about number into the latter. That's the problem well that Social Security disability claims are down yet but they food stamps have to be down they are but it's that the programs that matter are that the course or security program and Medicare and and losers going up faster just seeing them continuing to rise it's it is they are unsustainable at this point. Amazon getting into the Christmas tree business that you bought I remember you bought Christmas tree now or rural horrified years ago was only grew a public definitely it was it was they always Ingraham it was. Instructor says yes it was and I Richardson. It was drug Bob and I bought Christmas tree and big big delivered it which was article you know is located deliver interest mr. did that the tree was crappy. Nah not a country not not a good experience so Amazon this year is going to sell and ship real Christmas trees. They are saying that they are going to have all of these trees. Sit within ten days of being cut down pretty good. Pretty good. Is coming out five G Verizon's coming out with five a lot of g.s. T-Mobile and sprint. They want to come out with five GE who. What is it in why is it so darn I mean people people are going to be excited about it because of the increased speed. But darn it it's unsightly. So I make a counterpoint and I think eventually we're gonna get to the point where it's slightly wood five G is it is incredibly high speed wireless Internet access you're talking speeds 1020304050. Times faster. Then what we currently have today OK so if you've got bios today you might be getting 75. Opened. Exactly Comcast won't know circuit might we're we're talking. Wireless yeah okay I understand what we're talking faster than the existing wireless technology not then why via its gonna be the same speed as you wired technology today it's not going to be fast all its not know it's it's not going to be faster than you're wired technology because you've got Gigabit wired technology out and it's not to be faster and you don't need fast. Kind what it's going to be is a lot faster if you do anything on a phone right now sure it's gonna be miles faster than what you can do one that. The big reason why all these companies are excited about it. Is because it is so much faster. You may now be at the point where you don't need to brought an eight cable to every house on the block in order. To go and get that house connected or give you the example you mentioned fire so okay. Bios is making a lot of places because they have to go and get a dig everything up again you know he seemly in the cable too expensive for them to do that. This they don't do that they put it you know effectively be transmitted you know on a telephone pole supplements the key thing is big I saw a picture but this morning as a whole Diana. I get. If I have to put that in front in my house of helpful Paula I don't know that I would sign or you don't need one in front of ever helps. Okay and in and that's part of the point is the only one in front of every house but you do need him fairly frequently because there are some problems with five GOK just to put it in perspective. Do we have about a 100000 towers in the country today. You're gonna need wave wave more for five and 700000. The reason why is because it's pretty much line of sight okay your forgy technology operates. On longer frequencies. And effectively longer bands than what you see from five G five G is a higher frequency it's a fifteen gigahertz now on compared to around two point six gigahertz for three G and forgy. And so it is much shorter wave went to the cause of that. Little things can get the whale give me a couple of examples they've been testing a bunch of five G. In a couple areas around the country they found the following things get in the way of leaves snowflakes. Anti reflection coatings on glass over so if you have yet I am absolutely and everybody's if year everyone's got those so you need to be able to beam this thing in thru window. If you got into a reflective coatings on the glass they can't get the five G signals through in some cases so you you've got some issues with some of the stuff so what do you think happens here. It's gonna be the standard it eat this is going to be at desserts are already talking about six G-7 G they're gonna figure this stuff out if there are Smart people that don't awful lot more about this than I do that are gonna figure out OK we can build a way that you know because were crossing two towers we can get around this leaf and OK we'll figure. Though the figure that out if they if they can get me in an axis on a plane and six miles that moved at 600 miles an hour and the figure out how to get it through my window will lose. We will come down in price yes yes that's a big and that and that the big part of the reason why it's going to be coming down in price is. Because you don't have that capital cost of ignore these trenches connecting. You can have startup companies that in theory should be able to get into this but how will company share those towers like Willie T and T have to share with rice and so I have choices consumer to not necessarily an eighteen TS to share with Verizon OK but if you look AT&T and Verizon. In a lot of cases based on how their regulated. They are required to share their tower locations with lesser carriers actually Willie improve my cellphone service. Yes the is that he's a big thing I've gotten they're still. Areas welfare here's the thing is so it'll improve in the areas where it's good today male. The areas where it's not good probably not getting too much better because you're gonna need more towers in this area so let's say that you're driving in rural New Hampshire. You're still not gonna do not going to be five G there just because again you need line of sight in if you've only got you know certain number of cars coming down a road each day. What what's the point Verizon investing that was the point and AT&T investing there is doesn't provide enough bang for the ball hit five G is gonna have huge impacts in urban areas and suburban areas. World not as much. We'll talk more about it in the coming hour of the financial exchange the Dow well it's up it's up seventeen points as we speak. And the price of oil hold smokes boils over seventy dollars a barrel will be talking about oil in the next hour for you to 2% today. Hi this is chuck and Mike from the financial exchange were here to talk to you. About the questions that you need to ask a potential financial advisor Mike there's a lot of different types of advisors out there. In one of the big questions that I think people really need to pay attention to double for your client but they must in fact be in the client's best interests can you give an example of how a fiduciary approach may differ from someone who's just acting as a broker for client. Yeah absolutely so when you take the case of say a broker they have a slew of different investment options that they can use and let's say you're comparing two different mutual funds and they might both achieve the same objective. But one of them might pay the advisor 5% commission and one of them might pay the 3% commission. Under the circumstances the broker's fee no free to choose that 5% product because it pays him more. Whereas the fiduciary is going to be in a place where they must choose that product that is truly in the message the client and if they don't. Then they stand to face legal repercussions. Folks there's a new guy out from Armstrong advisory group this month that details all of the questions specifically the top ten questions to ask a financial advisor. We've got to CEO selling twenty million dollar through them his stock but he warns investors not to be alarmed. And then finally we'll talk about the job market hi everybody it's Berrian truck with you here it's a Wednesday morning. And son of a gun chuck from look at that the price of crude oil seventy dollars and 71 cents a barrel how come. You get as big gap that's developed between west Texas intermediate which is typically how most oil you know it's kind of the benchmark for US soil again I'm. Or is it US or north American League is that our north American and hit it includes candidate to a certain extent. But yeah you've got this big spread that's developed and so in theory. It would be hate you should see a lot of people start to look at that pretty attractively saying. Keep this is gonna be cheaper even when he factoring shipping costs because usually the spread to three or four box they between what we'd pay it and so we're we're talking about news. West Texas is American oil. And Brent is with Europe eighties for from the saudis. It's that this is what is varied okay for those are the two benchmarks yet that there are those the benchmarks that you typically have a mean that the spread his Bayard if you go back to 2012. We get is why is like 25 dollars one point historically. It's been somewhere in the range of two to three dollars and you know kind of through the 80s90s and early two thousands of but it's it's very dramatically in recent years who I remember this year earlier this year was down for five bucks. Now I will say that there's some interesting stuff before when it comes to energy and it's it's something that I've been watching pretty closely. Over the course of this year and there's an interesting quote. From the European Commission president JC yeah you anchor today you know and this was in his effectively state of the European Union. And this is a direct quote from him then. It is absurd that Europe pays for 80% of its energy import bill 300 billion euros a year. In dollars when only 2% of our energy imports come from the US. It's absurd that European companies by European planes in dollars instead of in Euro. Europe wants to move away from the dollar. They've they've been making about as part of their agenda forty years ago when they started know that it but they're making some noise about this you know and I app that they're they're making noise about this and specifically. This is something that's important when it comes to Iran. And Russian boat. Americans are getting hurt by this because and it's set at these prices would ends up happening yeah we're. Where prop pumping more crude or selling it to the Chinese and consequently. When I go to the gas pump this week in any pain three bucks again. I think what part of this is suggesting is that there is a weakness for US soil in part it is. But different countries don't necessarily want to be tied to the dollar anymore then I I think that is the theory real thing that we have to watch you on who they can trust besides us. What it would mean while fear if you're Europe's gonna buy. Oil from Saudi Arabia directly and not do it in US dollars would have the saudis gonna take euros I wouldn't that. Well they'll take whatever they end up working OK okay here here's the thing is if you look acts. The countries that abuse the dollar it you know historically the in the use that term is I recall only the user because we're trust were. Well these because were were trustworthy but more importantly these peers historically we've kind of stayed at the weigh in on seasons the case and look what's going on in Iran you look at rushing you look at China you you talk about all these things and you say look it's all well and good let me be tied the dollar for stability. But if my assets get frozen every time I do something that Washington disagrees ice. Okay and I don't have access to the right those dinosaur and the next highest rates of Saudi Arabia's not to make that trade users who lead us to freeze my book if I if the president walked wakes up on the wrong side of the bed. There you take my money they're saying look I and you backed a plan that's why Russia doesn't wanna deal in dollars anymore why it's white Turkey doesn't wanna deal in dollars Dwyer on does want to. Don't blame them necessarily. The implications of this we could modify their behavior not have it they they certainly could but they're not going to. The implications of this are pretty significant in that. Part of the reason why were able to fund their deficits because people buy up our bonds because they need dollars and indeed via access to them if that goes away dale. You've got funding problems for the government you do Hyundai you look at the ten year treasury with it to 96 of people somebody. These things don't move. Gradually. There's there's snaps it's you know you talk about the gold shot back in 73 talk but the Bretton Woods agreement back in 44 the things that changed the way finance worked overnight yeah. That's how these things tend to move. Will see all I know news. What I'm paying a lot of money from gaffes and I'm worried you know next week when he feast or turn on the heat next month. Yes pro and this month early next month for chuck it's ever is announced. You Eddie turn it although it to fifty. You know I keep its 52 during the day it's got to a skating drinking is living I keep it at 52 during the day when I'm not home party three tree's gonna survive. They like it cold is going to play it they could cold. Think about it what what preserves a living organism basic. Our land is a cedar tree for. Overstock CEO of cells twenty million dollars or is that there's of this stock so 10% of his holdings. Or stocks actually admirably he has abused for a echo like and a drop in and normally this wouldn't be something that concerns me except he's explicitly wrote in his letter for investors not to be alarmed which whenever someone says that doesn't make you'll. Well babies he's investing in this thing the DT which is crypto currencies to eat that's but he used the money for. All well and good but again is that saying hey I found a better investment option outside of the company that I'm the CEO of look I've never I don't like to win Bezos sells his stock. In Amazon. So he and he's using it to fund his space adventures it's a huge washed up on right I I. I have find having fallen in buying always a more viable reason for CEO to sell their stock then hey I found a better investment options somewhere else has. It tells you hey if he's doing that wireline I don't know why don't I sell over stock to go to that too right. So and and wares and he may end up. Save whatever they like I had to I get that lake I understand that but if the over stocks uses hate I'm selling this to buy another company. One of while westernized seldom buy that company two. It'll matter. But don't panic during all okay. All is well job openings exceeded unemployed Americans again in July last time this happened was in April. We now have the strongest job market in recorded history going back to 2000 that's how long we've been tracking this jolts number. And we now have. Almost seven million job openings across the United States really about six point two million Americans looking for war we have less Americans who are looking for work and we have job openings a particular. Manufacturing continue to harp on this we have 500000. Open manufacturing jobs so why not open the gates for immigration. You think this happened and I don't know BB like if you're gonna have immigration reform right here to have. Amnesty for illegals that are in the United States about what 111000012 million somewhere between 11:13 am what better time to do it than right now and the tap is you know why business leaders are gonna start gold president. Bridges his people a party got the coax pushing for it they're gonna go to the president there and say look. Week we're gonna go into recession because we can't hire people. Joining us on the line at a talk a little bit about the status of public pensions. Jon Pritchett John as the president and CEO of the Mississippi center for public policy he joins us. On the line right now John thanks for coming on the house. Thanks John. The the first sentence of your article that you published last week. Pretty much says it all unfunded public pension my liabilities are not a fun subject they're not there they're boring for a lot of people. But my question because as some that we need talked about a little bit more how bad has the situation gotten with these unfunded liabilities. Well if you'd look at the study have referenced from the American legislative exchange council now. I think beer that is a lot of people that look at this as you know lots of organizations have looked data. And it depends on the methodology. You know to and so on which one of these others. At the global rating the Tax Foundation a K this news com. And there's every possible different I like what Alec has done I think it's the best most conservative methodology and acts mechanic insists that. That there are accurate data the most conservative data which is what the which make plans based on and that picture's not pretty. If we look at. What they did was look at municipality Willis state unfunded pension liabilities. And benefits at about six trillion dollars. Beat number to look at the scary thing about it is. How fast it's growing last year. We had a single year growth of the unfunded liabilities. In the aggregate of 433. Billion. Or an end John let's let's hone in on that because in my view. This is an economy that is in good shape at the moment and typically. That's when you kind. Deal with things like building up your rainy day fund and shoring up programs that need help because when things go downhill which inevitably at some point they always do. You don't have the ability to do that so what's most concerning for me is. Hey this is the time when we should be trying to shrink those deficits. And inspect instead of just getting bigger why is that the case. Yet it's not a popular subject. It's it's hard to win elections. And metric as they're really good communicators. On you know it's taking. Radiate bonds or additional tax revenue instead of using it for you know a profile very popular cause. And people you know building and I helped for teachers whatever may be popular. This is a difficult subject. You know it'd. It's sort of but what it says in the article being sober one of the party drops. Somebody's going to be an adult I agree with you when we have these periods. We just went through a really challenging period where it was difficult to catch up. We did have the mechanisms in place to be funding appropriately for the promises that were paid. Now we get to a position where we're. All healthier. It turned to get returns that much greater than they get a decade and eat your right now's the time to try to fund. As much as possible that the debt liabilities that we have currently. You know matches is not the worst. But certainly. It's not near the top either and so there are some reforms that politicians should be credit for but there's a lot more than needs to be done. And we're not getting the full picture discoveries. I wrote this article and the taxpayers understand. The full picture is which is why use Alex number because I think they get the best the best picture what's going on across every state it it doesn't look at every municipality. But their methodology does and as a vote against not just the state retirement plan that's also roll there as it is now. John what states are in the best shape and what can you draw from them in terms of what has made them successful at dealing with this issue. Yet. Well obviously. You would think that. States or you don't have anti union presence would be better off as some cases they are but there are other states like my town in Mississippi for example. We're we're compromise funding ratio percentage how much money we have going toward that debt. We're in very bad shape and we can't blame that on. Union negotiation. And that alone not putting money away. Not accountant who were. More conservative annual rate of return for example a lot of the states are. You know using their assumed rate of return. Somewhere in the papers seminary percent. You you know it's more likely to be conservative I think you'd something more like the treasury rate or something in the you know at two or 3% range. Because as soon as we don't have those numbers this experience that period of time. Then we just could see this growth on the outside so to answer question who's doing a good job does North Carolina and a good job of Wisconsin doing it. There are few states that started it is reforms Ohio Pennsylvania and Michigan. I think the most important thing about it antennas because that list of the most important things first of all has admitted. And secondly to be transparent about it for example. Let's put all of this data. Right out front on easily accessible web sites. You know look treasurer in North Carolina for example. Is that a great job of this made the information available go directly indebted is he it is in its own church and grants. But that's one other news in the position where across the board is that politicians were transparent about. Most citizens didn't understand what their obligation or how fast these viability grow. And now we're starting to get a little bit of it but in my view not main thesis really have a full picture. Of how much of the budget. Is being eaten up by our past Sarandon that the liabilities that we have. And it's not this is anti pensioners are anti public employee. But it promises we've made in the should try to open. But not letting the citizens nose and after all employee. The people who have the pension and retirement programs and political know how they have been on (%expletive) that these these. Promises have been unfunded now that creates this big big problem big man problem that we have basically. And that we've got to figure out how to address that masters down a little bit of that. In putting together a plan I think the planets is a little to back loaded. If you don't have great growth that they'll have a really help the economy. You're gonna run to the for the same problem out of your actions not your point not not enough money torch that debt liability. John we just have about thirty seconds left so real quick here. These problems took years to get to this point how is typically take to get them fixed. Well there's a lot Payton and be gone. You know. There's a whole laundry list of things that can be done. But the reforms aren't you pianist not going to be short period kindness the magic of compound interest you don't become. But wealthy. Investor. In a year we're not gonna get healthy regard unfunded pension liabilities in the year on if we're probably talking about. It tenure here. I hope is that we don't get to a point where states. We're in worse shape insert asking for other states eat I eat the federal government to bail out yup a bit in May from all. Very good John thanks for the time at thanks for putting this together for us. John Pritchard is the president and CEO of the Mississippi center for public policy. We're gonna see states and territories fail Puerto Rico's within months of failing their Connecticut Illinois. Connecticut's. Pain out over he said ten years. Even if you had a plane we can spread that over twenty years thirty years the year or it's gonna come up is in town meetings you're gonna start going to town meetings. And you know you vote on your town in and be right say. Well gee how what we have to spend my property taxes are gone up by 7% because we didn't put money away for the teachers' pensions and health care. Right that's when it hits home when you see in town meetings. That's when it really starts to hit the pocket and in win use a homeowner see your property taxes skyrocket. And that is what is occurring. Maybe then you wake up and they wouldn't come back we'll be talking about businesses ramping up lobbying against the trump terrace why would they do that. That's next month when he took. Hi this is chuck and Mike from the financial exchange were here to talk about some of the questions that you need to make sure you ask a financial advisor if you are considering hiring one and Mike what are the big questions that I think everyone needs to pay attention to is who actually making the investment decisions when it comes to what goes in the client's portfolio what what. What types of different situations to be seen as far as who makes the investment choices in portfolios decline. It's taken very significantly mean everything from TO a small independent advisors action running all those portfolios and investments themselves to completely hiring that entire piece of the business out to a third party why it's important that you understand which one is happening is because you want to make sure a the person that's making the investment decisions has the qualifications needed to do so. Understands the markets maybe has a chartered financial analyst on staff and B if they're not doing it themselves are there any additional costs to using a third party for the service lets talk about that second piece of particular how much additional cost you end up running into if they're outsourcing that management oh well I mean I I've seen numbers as high as another full percentage point if not more hearing the case where say you're paying your advisor 1%. And they're using a third party money manager you might be layering on an additional 1% cost mainly double the cost of investing for you. Folks the question of who makes the investment decisions in a client portfolios just one of the questions you need to ask a potential advisor and Armstrong advisory group has put together a list of the top ten questions that you need to ask a potential advisor all you have to do to get it is call 800. 3934001. You know a lot of the president's supporters are giving him grief about tariffs and ironically we have breaking news to report. That the United States has reached out to China in an effort to resolve the tariff issue on that news that house up a 167 points. Yet Dow and S&P both moving into positive territory nasdaq's still in negative territory today though. On the news for the Dow as you mentioned a 16570. Points as we speak. From California apple growers to Maine lobster man businesses are joining forces to try to persuade president trump. It tariffs are hurting US industries. Well I'll tell you what they've done there's going to be part of the president says look I've lowered your damn tax rate from 35 to 21 what a steal one in I got to fight this trade battle. But the fact he hears what if if this news report coming at a Dow Jones is that correct. That we reached out to the Chinese. Did we blink. He hasn't looked well that that was the that's my question they Aminu is that a sign of weakness on our part. In which would interest in here we got some data this morning the Producer Price Index then actually showed a decline month over month in inflation. A key reason for that was because if you took a look at food prices they were down point 7% for the month. In a big reason there. Is that a lot of farmers are finding it more challenging to sell internationally in this environment now and so they have mortgaged their cell domestically in this AG any self for something if they're losing money they end up losing money with cranberry farmers that the PPI report that we got this morning was very indicative. Of hate we have. Too much stuff to sell and we have nowhere to sell to right. Now trade as an issue if say to Lou we'll see where it shakes out but. It it's it's and sting deceived the United States reaching out to China. Microsoft. Is planning a massive investment in Canada I'll take one of the reasons that. Companies are moving more and more they're primarily moving to trial. Is in Canada you can have a kid go to school university of Ronald McGill. Kingston it is a lot of good schools young Canada. And they're allowed to stay. Ray you have a Chinese kid right come to school. In Canada and then stay you know different Saudi Arabia. And they're allowed to stay at the United States were stupid Wheatley we bring a man we led pay tuition that we throwing the heck out after they graduate in the top of the class in tech. And you've seen too -- to develop as this international hub of sorts in Canada over the last couple decades where you very much has Canada's international fields because of all the international business that gets done out of there it's kind of like new York and that it's a melting pot. Yeah yeah a lot of diversity in the city for a nap so Microsoft they're going to be spending 570. Million dollars. In building new while facilities there more than 500 full time employees moving in there it's going to be a 132000. Square foot facility that is gonna open in September of 20/20 so about two years from now is when this finally be open. But it's a new fairly big move for Microsoft to make this push here now that is. You know China is taking a different approach and it's you know I it's it's adjusting to watch what they're doing in response to the trade war. You know. Initially with China did was said. Well we're not sure we're going to allow American companies to invest in China now they changed course because what they've learned is. ExxonMobil for instance right big American company has a huge part of it is a ten billion dollar project in south China yup. And ExxonMobil said well look if you're gonna make our lives miserable we're not gonna invest that ten billion dollars in China. And China needs to Haiti need they do technology. They need it for the advancement GE they need to pay their bills the the the need that influx of capital to China's got to take in the opposite stand. That they initially did which was initially their backs went up right they said well your president is doing this stuff so we're gonna do bad things to American companies. Now I hope they're figuring out well that might not be the Smart thing to do. Will that they're playing Tenet to side both sides of the coin on this where they're saying look from a political perspective we can take a hard line but. They individual companies come to us yeah of course we'll take the money you want it were were were pointing happy to at this point so they're looking at it from that perspective. It's either the that the big thing. Is easy foreign capital. They do at this point there they're trying to square things away again they've been they've been working on this oil contract for awhile now on the start to get some volume flown through their means be seen if it's enough to actually. You get capital coming in through you know that the once they don't have to go in in dollar denominated terms. But it's. Watch out on this over the next couple years what do you make of that China Russia deal. Eight I can't just it just tells you they don't want anything to do to you us try to stave that they need at American technology. They do until they don't now you know it's at some point. They are building their educational infrastructure one of the things that you may see over the next twenty years is right now when when you're gonna school. We do in prep school and when you're in college what percentage of the kids were coming in China. It's probably fifteen to twenty somewhere in that ballpark that a lot of elite schools in the United States. The recruit. Asian kids South Korean kids Chinese kids why did he do it. Because they know those kids are gonna pay full tuition you know if you're a prep school you see if your kid. That attending a prep school in New England you could see as many as 2530%. Of those kids are gonna be Asian kids. And why does that come over and with a prep school cost fifty grand 55 grand and imagine yes somewhere in that ballpark and they can pay. You know in any will it. I I'm not sure how much longer that's gonna exist because what China's doing. And has been doing the last twenty years and will continue to do the next twenty years is build their own university systems in their own educations. And part of that again it comes back to our immigration policy. You know we throw these kids hoped they wanna stay every spring we get a elicited by Asian kids asking if we can if they come and work force her. I'll I'll give you an exit in example I have a good friend of mine who for. How long was this must been ten years for ten years was dating a woman from India and her visa was going to expire after those tinian this was someone who again went to Dartmouth Harvard Medical School like this is. Not a one person one Smart cookie you know it just kind of got her act together. We felt he was going to be gone unless they got merits of finally he had to bring down a merrier after ten years lefties out like duke to snort keeper and there are so. But it you know like eight again this is someone who you know was about as highly it it is possible. And wasn't going to be able to stay here just because of how the V system was set up effective remember when Mitt Romney is running for president was one of his. You know issues it's if you write you spent ten years training some to be a doctor and any say and by the way go home it's it's just something that it doesn't make it to a sense. Have you been down to the new World Trade Center the last five years. No I used to live down there while I was in turning in New York it was about a block from there. I was down and they were just finishing up the building in this said to be I guess three or four years ago. And there and a heck of a time renting it out. The eighties still sitting on I think it's 20%. Vacancy rate which is high for me it is in the days it's you you take a look right now what the yet the downtown availability rate and in that area and about fourteen point 2% so you've got you know of being young overlap. I guess an overlay there in terms of hey you've got you know all this extra space they still have a mean in you're talking three point one million square feet it's not a small place a problem truck is that it's it's when you go down. Here it is very difficult to navigate as if fencing. Everywhere yet that. But you if you try to walk from one side of that to the other. If gore round. Several barricades it was not convenient longer hitter for pedestrian traffic yet it in I was living their back in 2008 right as they run out in the foundation work and so you had you know I've just about everything around there was closed off like the building was it was still you know they were doing all the foundation stuff at that point in but you start to see some of these barriers coming down some of these barricades that'd you know previously closed areas off. And so apparently they do have people looking at the space but still haven't moved in there this be used to call the Freedom Tower. Massa master license number 101. Joining us on the line now is doctor Brian Raskind he is the CEO. Of advanced DDS and we're talking about robotics dentistry today. Doctor rescue thanks for joining us. Our pleasure. So. Doctor rest and we we see in. The in in in different kinds of surgery all kinds of robotics being used today. If four of those kinds of medical procedures what books available as far as robotic dentistry to. Well what I quite they're replaced in the he's still being about the only been working that we're getting closer there's actually a robotics that opened placed in him play. Where next is told you we're the drills should go worry you should make the at the economy forward and controlled things for you but the dentist is still involved. So I think where we're not that close to doing no dentists know person involved in your dentistry. But robotics and other ways helping us make restorations is really. Has become very very popular. But let's to talk just a little bit about the the quality and helping to perform those procedures what kind of impact do you see from the use of some of these robotics that. Can just you know work. Alongside a dentist in terms of improving the quality of care. Well I mean we too quick to talk about cad cam which is milling machines design restorations and making programs. So I'll take a scanner and dust and you too and the computer will then help design your restoration. And then it will send it to milling machine that will actually mill out your crown while you wait. Allowances. That this has changed could be 234 visits in the past 21 visit coming in your office. Prepping scanning somebody's milk and finishing their crown and that is. What what does that do was far as the cost of some of these procedures and does that drive them down I know obviously there's upfront investment on this equipment. But in the long term that has to drive cost down right. It could drive cost down the equipment is expensive the materials are expensive. But there's a couple of different things that that are costing patients one is the actual build a definite connection and two is the time that they have to give up in order ago. So if you're going to revisit to the office to have a crowned on. And you respect taking sick time and vacation time to get there and now it's only one visit how much is that stating it right. So you know there's there's there's different using cost and procedures are also done quicker and easier. Technology might not cut down the actual. Cost of the crown. But it will make it easier faster and better. When we talked about the the dentist that will be using this kind of technology. The ones that don'ts are are they giving patients less than the best treatment in that case then. A good question I think I was in the analog technology well what I used to do when a lot of dentists still do still works. And even if you do it. Through an impression instead of the scanner once they send it to their lab the lab than normally do and it'll digitally. Oh the distance so getting the advantage of digital having that done at the lab instead of dew and doctor office. In the. In terms of the number of dot dentists that are using this at the moment what do we have any data on how many. Practices have this kind of technology right now. I don't have the exact. And these scanners and control act and nobody cheered and it is increasing. I met separately in the go to a digital dentistry convention now in Orlando to accept that and which is very very big meetings so it's getting more and more popular. And I think that over the next ten years it's gonna you know really takeover. It takes a while for people to learn the technology in invested and so as a patient. You should be aware of what's out there are new should be asking you dentists need do things digitally wind you know what is the advantages of that and be an advocate for yourself. Good doctor thank you very much for joining us tonight. Our real pleasure thanks for having me and I hope you finish your patience but occasions you have to putt and go out and maybe got a little more information. Outstanding very good that's doctor Brian rescue he's the CEO. Of advanced DD ass he's right about it in terms of the the old dentists don't want to in old doctors. Don't wanna go to the robot Zaman train. Yeah there's a tidbits come and at a Harvard rate they're trained in robotic surgery right now it since day one of that that's how they use they learned today. You know like if about prostate surgery right now that is largely run by robots oh is that right yet prostate surgery for me and to maintain his sexual function. Is Lar those surgeries are frequently done by robots. If you can find doctors that capable of doing idol idea. That the news we need to be my age that's the kind of thing you talk about. Prostate prostate prostate surgery sexual function and go to a tugboat that no. You're pretty much covers it it's it's an issue and he did talk to doctor your father that that we talk. Prostate prostate aka right how many times if it would have veteran. Everything else. Old creature that's written pretty much. Have you seen how much business Amazon's doing it be to be the abyss. The they've got to be spanking. Some big company. Yet this that they had just started this division about three years ago they're on pace this year to do more than ten billion dollars in revenue. Ten billion in three years that's just a small company. Just yet just a small little bit about things like office supplies. Yet within their first year they've passed a billion dollars in sales so they've muted they're growing their effectively tripling the size of this every year who the leading. You know it's it it's hard to say exactly who it is just give I don't know the exact products that they're necessarily selling in here. On the talk to a contractor. And he was doing a renovation and apartment in the city. And he is for he needed just used the bathroom and if it isn't right. He had and has delivered the toilet to the apartment within a two hour window when he needed it. It seems to be he paid 200 dollars less for me didn't have to have his man go over to whom people picked up to a yeah I mean it's sick of it isn't the but the real answers Amazon's eating ever now. No way the real question is were they not using. Well be you would think that your home Depot's the world would figure out away to com. Woman and they are mean that you'll give their sales Home Depot and lows of both had very Goodyear's behalf. A but I maintain their losing more business on the march. You know and there's no doubt and when they economy goes sideways and people are renovating their homes at the same degree how well would they be doing a down economy yeah it's it's it's a question.
