This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and show Oksana. You're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chuck Exxon. While we were on air yesterday there was testimony he made by Jack Dorsey and Sheryl Sandberg in front of congress. Hands. I hate to admitted I didn't fully understand all the issues that were being discussed sort of talk about it today Jack Dorsey Sheryl Sandberg. And an absence by the way of Google to send any. Of another outlooks. Well you live when we will talk about it because. It it's really. This is a major media sources a lot of people. Jock who get much of their news and much of their information from FaceBook and Twitter and global. And a couple of people. An Indy in and what's what I'm learning and and now I'm not I don't work towards your rough but it sounds as if congress is looking at. Gee do we need to regularly eat these new media companies that are less than really they're less than ten years old. Yeah I mean FaceBook is I think just passing its fourteenth birthday now. But in terms of real penetration in new ownership it's it's like a ten year old company edit and congress is looking at it and when congress starts looking at tech companies I get nervous and his name one person in congress that as tech background. Yeah I mean I I there isn't one. Need someone from a big tech company that does not get elected. To be a senator they don't get elected via congressman it's just not a television that he needs like I've talked to eat it you know. Guys that have worked for congressman and for senators and they're a lot they hire young people the typically hire young. People really good schools world lawyers that's the key difference is that they're not hiring tech it's not higher is why do you need a techie in Washington. Although I don't know I think you need one more now than ever before why get elected wash. A case you have to understand face but yet understand that's an hour that's a marketing person. Now because that's not a tech person each congressman has what twenty people on the staff. Yeah but that there's a difference between someone who understands how to market successfully on Twitter and and someone who knows how Twitter actually works and cut and in. And no one in congress is hiring someone who knows how Twitter actually works is it there's no value to it if your congressman or senator we'll even if we disagree on that point. What what was the purpose of yesterday's testimony and what did we learn anything. So interestingly enough I thought this was going to be a whole went to grandstand and in gloat don't give me wrong there was plenty of grandstanding that happened can. But we learned some interesting things as far as how the the level of control that Twitter and FaceBook actually have. Over what goes on on their platforms. And much like anyone who works for any organization you look at these organizations from the outside you say gee date they know everything they're doing business doing that. Guess every organization from the outside looks like that whenever you actually get inside. You realize gee this is actually kind of chaos this is kind of a mess if they don't have pretty much both of them admitted. We don't have anywhere near the level of control needed to adequately police our system well FaceBook 81 thing I did glee was. Sheryl Sandberg said they have 20000 employee which is nuts. That are doing nothing but regularly. With being posted so if you post something great and it's outrageous or factually inaccurate war. You know offensive. Great big got a pretty good chance pick and that sounds like. Well if it doesn't tell you realize how just how are really gets reported as you can re also report things that you thinker that if it does but when you consider how many let's. I have no idea. But let's let's just play that's what's fun little game here is that at this will be interesting. How many post you think someone can go through and an hour when their reviewing things with the use a lot of artificial intelligence to track they are but. How many post you think someone can go through. When their review no idea 10200. So easy to get one every thirty seconds yeah they're just going being beaming in Italy can read the headline that you read the first paragraph it's the third round so bad so let's say that's a hundred so that means that FaceBook is able to check about two million pieces per hour in if they're doing this 24 hours today there will check about forty million pieces can. We you've got. The building an ego like two billion people on FaceBook right you know so it's like it's it's a drop in the bucket now granted most people are abusing FaceBook the way. That. Inning in any way that actually calls for any kind of suspension or any problems so a lot of you don't need to worry about. That's the perfect scenario with 24 hour monitoring. You can cover forty million different pieces and there's way more than that that gets posted that about how how many people you know that postings 2345678. Times today. Am a customer pictures immigrant children. Well no not ask may actually a guy I every I guess trouble yesterday Tucker didn't post any pictures so. Bugler like texting me saying hey we're the guys you're in trouble but though my my followers on at 4000 dollars they do wanna know where the pictures of the girls behind I didn't take any time. So I look at this and pretty much what I gathered. Was they don't have a coherent plan to be able to deal with this they're trying to the best they can. But they're not meant to be all the bush you know that you win the one thing that bothered me. Is it. There is almost. I I have this great fear that the government's gonna come agents say will we we can regularly. In an and that's my fear too because the government does not understand how these technologies work style how are they different from. You know the the Fox News or are they different from. It is a media company in what way. Well I like how. How would they be regulated differently than CBS is regulated or NBC or Fox News or the New York Times. And it's free speech right its First Amendment is that. I might say something. It FaceBook finds very offensive and or I could say something Tucker that really bothers you write it it's my opinion it's a free speech right. Yeah I'm gonna have that right now ain't that right Pate direct to do that on wheels that right but do you have the right to do on their platform. And here's the question is that that this is where the rubber meets the road on us so let's say that I start a publishing company. I'm publishing books you know you give me a book that says that the moon is made of green chi yes. Do I have to publish that book. No no Bob I I don't have to public that Toledo where it's your book and if you wanna self published you're more than welcome to. But I don't have to publish that book as part of my job is I don't think the moon is made out so you're saying it's FaceBook should reserve the right to reject my. Ridiculous opinions or Facebook's a publisher. Okay and they they can just reject me or they can bid because I've seen people get when informed that every day Joe Schmo doesn't care about their journalistic integrity and credibility to Wear as a channel like a CBS or fox except for a day you rely on that. Well. Is FaceBook is if you know that they're not required to public. To publish everything that comes in two via their ecosystem. In this is the problem is our laws are built to deal with this great that it did didn't it but then deceased say that and then on the other hand chuck you've told us that congresses and prepare it doesn't have the knowledge to create laws. Well no that's the same thing our our laws are built deal but because they don't have the knowledge selected they don't know what so what do we do. My guess is nothing and I guess is a whole bunch nothing okay I'm feeling yesterday it was a waste time. I don't think it was a waste time I think it taught us some really interesting things about how FaceBook and Twitter actually run their businesses I adore Jack Dorsey came out is a direct quote from him okay this is he's talking about the rules that are neo published on Twitter. He says look I believe if you were to go into our rule states that don't cup coffee you wouldn't be able to understand them like. He actually beat and battered and Sandberg they think about it on it Jack Dorsey the guy who owns Twitter is likely an old Jesus this the other guy who runs Twitter who makes it work on a daily basis if he's saying look I run this thing. And we haven't been able to build rules that work hits in her Scott essay in the same thing what makes you think that congress is going to be able to get 435 congressman hundreds says it yet you say we we trust Jack in which trash girl and we trust Mark Zuckerberg to get right. No I I don't think that's the case but what I don't wanna see is some hap hazzard legislation that's passed through saying. We have to do this again I don't wanna see that and I'm worried that we're getting to that point were were going to see something like that come through. What I want to see is I wanna see a commission that is put together. That studies the issue for a couple of years because that it's this is something it's gonna take a long time to pick. It would have been trying to figure out how to do this since its inception and we still don't know how to you know. Figured out for a couple years make recommendations and then build legislation based off those but I don't wanna see you know just grandstanding hey we need to do this. Don't know you know we don't know. What day in. How much assignment and and how much do you guys use FaceBook do agree our show right now is on FaceBook where you can watch it on FaceBook right now. Which in terms of your everyday lives you go to the site every day deed deed you'd look look at your app every day a pro we go three to four times a week. Yeah I think we do you know people that are just said I'm done with FaceBook not not one and for my friends know I I know the occasional person who might have but. I don't know that 25% of people who have done talk doesn't make sense poll question. By the apple caution of the day is we want to know have you deleted the FaceBook app yes or no what financial strain showed dot com. Right now it's very early 40% are saying they have I I I have not my wife still has her count. I use it but I use it I don't use it for tell you what I don't use it for I don't use it as a source. No. Hi everybody it's very Armstrong and Jake two Lian were talking about a program called Z rent. Now this is specifically. Designed for those of you who wore landlords and you used to collector checks with paper checks are gosh maybe still do. Will zero rent allows you'd collect checks electronically. Jail is hoping he could spend a little bit of time explaining how easy grant works and why it's a big advantage for landlords. Absolutely vary so we we develops he rained two out of me the whole race because right now. You know as the landlord when you're getting to rain checks in the mail it's low it's unpredictable. You're missing envelope line mostly waiting he might not get all the rent until the tenth or fifteenth of the month. Furthermore if your landlord on vacation in your rinsing your notebooks you know so would you rate does is it really digitize is no. It makes the ranked electronic payments it allows for roomy cheering for multiple roommates and apartments that's great if you're renting out to college student absolutely. It's predictable it comes at the same time every month. And it's all on me. So the landlords who have been using assisting huge time savings and ointment you are you still giving the first six months free for landlords the first six months or free and then in addition to that. If you bank at one of the participating banks he ran is always pre pre. Those participating banks are meter being installed in messed me up at that any bank could sign up breakneck if you at a bank in Vermont to Connecticut. Security suffered through securities America income members finreg SIPC and advisory services arbiters securities America advisors think Gary Armstrong representative Armstrong advisory group in the securities America companies are unaffiliated stock tips. Stock we carry on. Strong and shut sun out it's the financial exchange on the financial exchange radio network. Just the companies that certainly has been under the gun for most of 22 and joining us now to talk a little bit about what's going on inside Tesla. Is Julie board from business insider Juli thanks for joining us today. I ask thank you for having me. Absolutely so Julie we have a chance to work through this article that you put together and first of all it's it's phenomenal work just the amount of research that went into it. I guess let's start with. Well there's there's there's about to replace we could start let's start first with you on mosques because a lot of the potential issues seem to sinner around him. Specifically. Let's talk about the management style that he's using and what you found from people that you talked. Act now. On. Detractors. But. Though people discard it or where are. I have you know. Locked. Every air time on it out orders. Well Utley. Is sort of like you know is it possible. On the take it right. Cart action caller. Acts based at. That are out. There. And there. That. Could be. Became sort that may see a I doubt that there. At. What are their cars. Aren't asked stoking. It. It. So moving from there how we get from that type of leadership to what apparently. Our work conditions that are. If you're an individual incredibly unpredictable grueling. And in some cases it just too much for people handle and a lot of cases actually. Ask others pavlik is. People who work right so the cat is simply that we passed it by the way or. Oh we. These are that are currently at late or recently played aren't so at our level aren't in all. In all okay. So we sort of covered again though we. You know there are a lot at that's currently there are that are not the right there. There and some of Ameritrade are doing and other controversy going on there to be happy if that's what employees. Not describe it out to me as the work. That it do they want that our state of and it and it really really and maybe rightly so right. Because act as a really is trying to usher in a world where where there are renewable. Delete rights and they want it still unaware. They're not so part of the workforce are. Is because there aren't and Reno Nevada content they hire a lot of credit never had an industrial background. Comment that kind of problem. But aren't. Some people out of it is the best at that bank account or Armani. When I talked view but yours we're sorry but living in the car now because yes that would work but aren't we. How in the area. Honest though aren't as bad but it side or the other side there are people you know like. Expectation and a workaholic. And that sort of always rise to show up the carpet out that that is extremely burnout. Well and there are where every pretty great. Happy are all great and work. Julie you are musk has come under an awful lot of criticism over the last three to four months some of it from us as well because of via either stories about what's going on at Tesla his social media behavior the snap. How much of that simply is the fact that lucky he's trying to break into kind of uncharted territory here. In in doing so you can't do have to be a little off the grip a little crazy in order to do that. I mean. The way the way impression I got appetite and people but they're they're really there's a real feeling of being underdogs right. So. There's that currently it still a giant killing other sport and are now right. But at the parents and like. The it's a lot hours and don't reach out out talent and they're not throwing out you know bring abducted you know here and there that really motivate. Some apparent but our act so they're definitely and other side where is unpredictable. And apparent. We backed people at that aren't currently involved in. You know any mistake is an. We're out. It. Well workers and their. But it is because he's trying to view on you know. Data wave and if there is why that we and sort Eller are betting against. Market you know made it a vote about that content and other it is just being that are out. Like go for a couple. Very good Juli thanks for the time today we appreciate and thanks for put in the research on this is well. That is Julie Bork from business insider talking about Tesla and the way things operate there at this point do you think the end of next year's tended. I think within fifteen months were gonna know whether this company is in it for the long hall if they're going under you know. Could be yeah it could be sooner than that the by the end of next year we are going to know whether or not they can make. I think the big factories. Coming in new with Mercedes and BMW made these luxury car brands. General Motors hasn't really dented the Mercedes when I was looking more into it yesterday range only 200 miles that's going to be big impediment for the event yeah. They will be back with more on the financial exchange Les Moonves is he on the way out at CBS looks like he might be. Life goes on FaceBook and followers on Twitter. Time now for Wall Street watch a look at the market's performance so far today you still Berrian jog right here on the financial exchange radio network. But tech stocks continue to get hurt today Tucker down nasdaq's off forty points in the Dow is up. 33 points what can we learn from that. In terms of is in the is this more pictures on the gonna FaceBook it's down with three bucks. Is this result of testimony yesterday. You know some might be but yet weakness in tech in general yes they like net Netflix was down 6% yesterday and don't. You know so in general you had a sell off that was happening there now. It rotations yet I think you might just have a little bit of concern just on the entire sector just mean that the price is their kind in knots to be honest and not a lot of these companies just you know you get next Netflix about is the most valuable media company out there right now. And I like it you know or is the new black is great but not enough. I got CBS board is in negotiations to get rid of Les Moonves the waiter packaging this in Moonves. Is basically saying hey get Pena my contract. But the board is saying and a will may be but we want to claw back provision if the sexual harassment claims turn out to be true. Mike this is that the board is gonna end up getting pretty close to what they want on this and I really know what move is has to stand on. Oh pretty good record right instead what he's got a good record at this point but if you same age as we try to negotiate the severance right. What what like does he have to stand on his point and it's just it's funny though those claims came out follows a month ago. Measures to Yemen in two or three I want to. Be interviewed the women need if if if it's you know he believe me if you don't Tucker if you if you're sexually harassing arm please it would take me two months figured out minister of if he would take you to how long it would take you'd be in this. Did you did you do that less than two months I would hope so. I just suggests a big company though I think he agrees out by an awful Sunday. He's he's done by the Sunday I do. You might be right different. Our poll question today it's. Hubble surprised by the results. 48%. Of our listeners know 53%. Had deleted their FaceBook. 53%. And attacks mine line is heating up as well. I just don't believe you don't believe it at 53 I don't believe that. And the iguana Facebook's numbers keep going up every single quarter now. In the union you're not seem like they report the US separated out you haven't seen quarter people delete their late it's used not seen it. Finally writes Berry I delete the face. App and messenger from my phone access it through chrome now. Another sign on FaceBook five awaits as both my wife and I deleted our FaceBook accounts. And he keep track your grandchildren. Phone. Showing up. I I I I must confess I use it to. Kind of keep track of what my kids are doing and migrant children I find that it's. It's an easy way and I out to you my parents use it. Do and my idea my daughter in law's family uses they might have a lot of follow my daughter in laws namely. Follows the pictures and post on FaceBook user curious about the immigrant and you know I I don't know I. I'm kinda with you I don't believe it scorpio but I'd if you go through our text messages here. People are saying hey ER done with FaceBook. Wall this is the about the app not FaceBook right. While some are saying their completely done with face but it does entirely sure there's a couple learned. It was mostly. The NFL could pocket billions of dollars from the upcoming boom in sports gambling on here all kinds of bullish reports. Regarding the NFL this year viewership is going to be up. Gambling monies going to be just flowing in by the billions. Is this who it was last year the bottom of the NFL in their there they're making this big come back in in twenty team. It's. It's hard to say that. Because. The product has undergone any meaningful changes you said it was just so atrocious and it's last year WEU. Europe big football fan. And you're saying and I mature and watch you every detail into that they also by the way some of them have you watching the pre season games Tucker. Not a unlike some of the stuff with this new helmet to helmet rule they put in this year and joke. It's it's a cluster it's a mess against you guys and watched an episode that they've added these rules that if any player lowers their head to initiate contact offense or defense and it's a penalty. But they have no consistency call like if death it's it's gonna decide games because of this stuff gets. I think the game might be getting worse I'd I don't know if they've bottomed out well let's talk about the casinos in the advertising that's the big story they're gonna make a bowl. A they million a year they are going to the snows of it the estimate is just if the NFL started. Via effectively taking bets as part of their business. A study that was done by Nielsen said that the league revenue could rise by 2.3 billion dollars a year from if they started doing that. Com and pretty much they set a lot of that would come from rights fees but you know other things around that as well. I I would give this to me that that's a 2.5 percent increase in revenue if he if. The gambling on NFL increases. Does that retain viewers because people are gonna say wanted to watch into the fourth course just that people are are right there's the Sony backed him covers in the into the fourth quarter and honored as I don't know. Yeah I think. People stand into longer. Even if that is like Sunday night or Monday Night Football do you think would a year with your perspective on the stock is your law or you might be more of a football fan and 22 of us on what greetings via ratings. Yeah I think I think the products. There is very question more in dollar cut along the lines of what chuck sang him. If if they're thrown flags like to have been in the pre season but those. That bill that the helmets below helmeted it's going to be disaster. But I think they are just over flagging to get the players used to that rule so. Mostly. Well at any rate. Earlier. Hi this is chuck and Mike from the financial exchange were here to talk to you. About the questions that you need to ask you potential financial advisor Mike there's a lot of different types of advisors out there. And one of the big questions that I think people really need to pay attention to noble for your client but they must in fact be in the client's best interests can you give an example of how a fiduciary approach may differ from someone who's just acting as a broker for client. Yeah absolutely so when you take the case of say a broker may have a slew of different investment options that they can use and let's say you're comparing two different mutual funds and they might both achieve the same objective. But one of them might pay the advisor 5% commission and one of them might pay the 3% commission. Under the circumstances the broker's fee no free to choose that 5% product because it pays him more. Whereas the fiduciary is going to be in a place where they must choose that product that is truly in the message their client and if they don't. Then they stand to face legal repercussions. Trucking industry is in turmoil they are suffering from vast shortages. Of drivers rent talk about that. Ross gonna talk about. Something near and dear to Tucker so those are. As we sit here producing the show he's knocking on a piece of pizza yup and I just finished mine yet jerks to chew on and and now gentlemen you're both golfers your both. Don't beat puke and on there a the you both golfers or talk about how you can now at certain golf courses around the country. You're going to be able to order your piece of pizza or your burger. On the fourth holes genius and haven't delivered by drone capsule would you like I know he and you wanna be excited about that and of course we couldn't go days without talked about FaceBook or from. Or food let's start off a destructing story because there's. A bill in congress that was introduced to congress earlier this year. That would lower the age minimum to become a truck driver from 21. 218. Not sure how I feel well sure I want and an eighteen curled. Drive and a big rig down in 95. Yorkers are pretty much saying the same thing and I tend to agree with them. Abbott truckers truckers have been an interest in this because they do with the doesn't mean they're wrong. Now let's let's talk about your perspective because if you're an exist senior fifty year old trucker. You don't want an eighteen year old coming in is out to pressure wage it would but the argument they make blows that out of the water what is their argument. That year hiring these statistically worst drivers in the world is its rights it to try to deal disorders. I really test of that outside and I I taught all five of my kids how to drive the amazing surprise this would be equivalent to if you were bee you know running eight you know post an enemy territory you hired a blind person to be your look out you know that's what you're doing all right I disagree at any year did you ever in normal cars let alone put him behind the wheel denigrate I'm a couple of them and have. And Cameron let alone agree. They have to go through now let me text on shaving eating out there battling through a lot of training we have to go through 400. Hours. Doesn't matter on duty driving time of at least 240. Our come completed with an experienced driver. How many. It just ain't. I remember how bad of a driver I was back that ever you'd think about how bad huge is not yet. You didn't get anywhere near 240 hours of in cat driving even if I had no matter. No 240 hours is long time you can master a lot of skills in 240 hours. I'd I just look at it and you're taking a population that is statistically proven to be terrible driving. Beleaguered taking into account the training eighteen year old to Ergen who absorbed this type of training much faster than 58. Disposed to go through like forty hours drivers that doesn't do any good for them all it does that you would but he couldn't hold on you took these drivers classes and nice tight by Isabel we are still terrible drivers as biggie that classes are terrible shot. You you got in a car with four other kids know. Single person single person driving yet and how many hours the 1510 when he hit. Ten and then they and we they're talking about 400 hours doesn't matter. Well I disagree I disagree I think you can teach an eighteen year old. He didn't do a lot of things I don't think you can teach him to drive a truck safely. We we disagree the American trucking association estimates that the US a short. 50000. Drivers. In 2016 the shortage was only 36000. The average truck for however each today 55 years old. It is a problem that you don't have young truck drivers cumin and but you don't want and that young it's not eat you know they talk about the east trucking shortages he is that is a misnomer. It's which really. The problem is he wage shortage a truck tire driver today truck makes one half of what they are making forty years ago. In 1970s. Truck drivers are making double with they're making today when you adjust for inflation when you just for inflation now it AJ they get rite I eight. And anecdotes not salute the problem and if you look at the smoothly you you've known truck drivers that are 657 years old Dario and if you look at them a lot of them are suffering from things like obesity. Diabetes. Back pain the problems yup it's a it's a physical EB. Demeaning job cleaning because it is so darn sedentary is no way to get around sitting there and and you're on the road and oftentimes the place you're able to eat. McDonald's Wendy's he notes that it's really more than that truck looking at the vibration that's run through your body 81012 dollars today. That you're driving a big rig that's if you talk to a chiropractor they'll tell you that that is a lot of there. The health problems that truck and doubting. It just think about it right you're in constantly vibrating. Cavium Yemen and a bigger event driven been nice to the first short period of time and never for anything launched a long term I was just a I was at when I was. Fifteen or sixteen years old one summer I worked for furniture moving company. And we used to move furniture and executives between Montreal and Toronto and not a 45 hour drive yup. So you'd go pack up a house. And then you'd drive to Montreal you might stay overnight and then drive back the next day and I just the pastor I was driving in and operating the gear shift. Yeah I'll tell you what day it was a beating a good job and really didn't understand. Interest so at any rate that's a bill in congress on a poll question I just was curious to your thoughts on it. I also tend to agree with 612 years it's not the age the experience on the road because a lot of teenage drivers to be bad they still won't have the experience you 400 hours greatness you know trapped for hours won two of them on the training is not about the trying to do forty hours a week for ten weeks it's two months of intense training in the Coca figure Bork and you know every day during training but enough. Forty hours a week since two months to enhance. It's two months that he has become a good drive in two months. If you did that every teenage driver be good after they drove for two months. It's true. You know primacy just drive around town that are drive much there to try to get to know you are moving here well. Look I've just telling you the I think with a four and 400 hours you can train at eighteen to drive. It's my get a can never act two other cars yes that every act banks and I said they cannot speak. Tucker the there there if peak performance the it it would your there's teachers are clear terror physical profits they don't have to be -- are in physical shape 400. Hours. It off the U physical shape I can't hear my visions going yet that experience slow street smarts you know. Let's talk about so that we can agree greatest invention of all time is a good one. A North Dakota golf course is dropping burgers snobbery is unfortunately. Birders from a drone. Beginning September 15 so this starts next weekend if you go to king's walk golf course in not grand forks north North Dakota. You get to have refreshments delivered to you by drone for three dollars used to living Grand Forks. There. I have no idea. Buttons are you know that you see Aggies are not yet this is something that that I really do think he's going to be well not a big problem is when your golf. Great yea it is those golf carts you might see one it's about eighteen holes. They and the this way you can order what you want from the clubhouse he ought to wait T get to the NightCall cadets where you do your crossover rate yet. Legally yeah I mean you go to the bathroom the gravelly gather your beer whatever you want. This way you could be on the fourth hole and side yet you cigar I need a beer I need burrito barber better this is a bigger breakthrough for the game of golf and tennis technology because it keeps pace moving yeah. Did you see that. The number of eighteen hole golf courses in the United States has declined 7%. Since twenty so I think there's another wave of closures come into via a do. Georgians not really plan B you guys are big goal for its. Tucker and I both our economy today is taking generations ago and yet but it's easy you look at the statistics and it's down in ten to 15% I think there's another wave that's common I agree very tough time to be in that business. If you're wondering how they conveyed food. The the drone talkers will hover 45 feet above views yeah and will be lowered to you on world. Coca you just you and Ewan tie your read. Or burger or burger or beer and liberties. The drones weighed 33 pounds and if they fought thirty miles an hour with Bosnia that their their home that golf course is gonna get an uptick. On the weekend so what if you wanna go away like to take vacation you know re take vacation time but. If if I had every afternoon open I all of it now idol of. And interest in instinct you know we are talking about truck drivers and I just wanna share some of these because the why they're very poignant 774 right there there are many eighteen year old truck drivers in the military name races are really good point. The UK in fly for higher at 250 hours. You must have fifteen hours to be 15100 hours to be an airline pilot however the airlines' wanna reduce this of course X or three rating that. But the airlines do wanna reduce that fifty because that was C. And Obama wasn't it Obama that increase the number of hours you need don't know is during his administration and he personally does it. Booty in the the amount of time he needed behind. The in training was increased dramatically and it has led to a dramatic shortage of airline pilots and I would also suggest that the wage. It was boosted and 2013. Yahoo! and apple didn't go fight 412 under some. It's the have to go through just some reading about it now now. Seven anyone right structured remember that entrance into the military starts at age eighteen. 603 writes I was driving an eighteen Wheeler in the military when I was eighteen years old and I'm a girl I don't know what Ambien girl has to do it. And that was a long I can't read it and there the thing you missed on our own well earned. On shock and it indicate European. I I would I'm a girl and that's been a long time ago some of the best truck drivers I've ever seen where young. As tea. But I don't deny there can be good young truck drivers but statistically. Eighteen year olds are the worst drivers on the road win. I'd as a military put him behind rigs that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars it's a different job. You know it's it's completely different. So lately it's your year Karrie joined the army might be driving a rig it's worth two underground I've done anything that you any team on. I'm not saying that you won't be. But it's in completely different conditions with different parameters and when you're supposed to be doing and so forth. You drive and -- rigs through will be you know combat in Iraq or Afghanistan via the expectation is hey there is going to be some damage and so forth to your drive generated through you know Nebraska and yet you know you're Texan on your phone but the expectation is you should not be doing that there should not be damaged so. I'm not saying and that did not gonna have people who were capable of doing and I'm saying statistically you're looking at just about the worst population. To do. Is is there such thing as a million dollar bill. And accurate straightforward three guests that day it McGinley he's on the million dollar bill. I'm pretty sure I think there might have been at one point and I don't think billion dollar bill that there might have been. And the third apparently the Federal Reserve print and actually while they were typically only used in official transactions between banks not between individuals. But they did. They did have them for bank turns. Actions let's talk about value based college education away I I think years your senior transformation. In the college Lansky. Going forward I do see your generation. My generation spoiled you guys rotten. We we said Alia you go to Harvard and go to bowed and you can go to Trinity College her whole bar after all these great schools right and will pay will borrow money will go broke paying for our kids' education. My suspicion. Is that your generation is smarter than my generation and is gonna say. You get an education on line he joined the army in in and get some college money through their military I just don't see. That people and families are going to be willing to make the sacrifices that they've made of the last thirty years. What that a lot of people of CNET it's you know two people said okay if I get a college education is going to be XYZ waiting for me and the fact is it's not necessarily the case now. And so I think that you're certainly going to see a number of colleges. In the next decade start work continue to close just because the smaller and lower quality ones are simply not to be able to charge. 405060000. Dollars a year anymore that business models broken do you think the liberal arts schools are gonna go away. The good ones know the bad ones yes C still think there's value to a liberal arts education your bones and Colby's of the world they're going to be just fine. They're good enough schools that you can demand. 40506070000. Dollars a year to learn about sociology. Vote. That's not what liberal arts that is what's with roller I mean economics is typically is practically raw or you don't India finance degree you're not gonna get an accounting degree no no but I think there's a place for them but it's not something that everyone necessarily needs a study may be less of those schools I think again I think the bad ones are going to be in doubt I think that a lot of bad ones there's some good. Colleges out there and there's some bad colleges out there we'll take a look at the Wall Street Journal rankings of said schools when we return we'll have the answer to a trivia question. Hi this is chuck and Mike from the financial exchange were here to talk about some of the questions that you need to make sure you ask a financial advisor if you're considering hiring one and Mike what are the big questions that I think everyone needs to pay attention to is who actually making the investment decisions when it comes to what goes in the client's portfolio what what types of different situations and be seen as far as who makes the investment choices in portfolios for. It's taken very significantly mean everything from TO a small independent advisors action running all those portfolios and investments themselves to completely hiring that entire piece of the business out to a third party why it's important that you understand which one is happening is because you want to make sure eight the person that's making the investment decisions has the qualifications needed to do so. Understands the markets maybe has a chartered financial analyst on staff and B if they're not doing it themselves are there any additional costs to using a third party for the service lets talk about that second piece of particular how much additional cost you end up running into if they're outsourcing that management uh oh well I mean I I've seen numbers as high as another full percentage point if not more during the case where say you're paying your advisor 1%. And they using a third party money manager you might be layering on an additional 1% cost mainly doubling the cost of investing for you. Folks the question of who makes the investment decisions in a client portfolios just one of the questions you need to ask a potential advisor and our strong advisory group has put together a list of the top ten questions that you need to ask a potential advisor all you have to do to get it is call 800. 3934001. Lobster and clam bar located on US route six in east ham Massachusetts. Left the get rid of the hundred dollar bills there's you know there's talk of get her to the hundreds and fifties even twenties. And the bodies to try to get rid of the underground cash economy you know the seed be more or less inclined to use cash. It is a government loves to have you pay everything with a credit Carter checked there's a in a big push for that I I wouldn't be surprised to be seed in the next ten or fifteen years if not sooner the EU is talking about it as well and get rid of your it really disables your ability to use cash. It does on the other thing interestingly and I was reading something on this maybe two or three months ago now the other thing that it does. Is if you think that the way forward for central banks is to continue to push towards negative interest rates and if you have negative interest rates to get easy cash options yeah well he can avoid a if you don't then you can't so it allows negative interest rates to be applied more recently a bidder has interest in theory. College is you know one thing that strikes me when I look at college rankings and university rankings. Is you know we live up here in the northeast and we large audience in Florida. But in the northeast. We tend to focus on private universities but then when you look at other parts of the country chuck the best schools. Our public universities have you ever notice it it it tends to be million Florida. The best colleges are not what you hear of University of Miami I think that's the best emblem all Florida but. Did the bulk of the school to go through North Carolina UNC is a very good school and in university in Michigan California the cal system is phenomenal Texas tech's is a great school mean. You go down the list and your big state laying grant universities historically in a lot of those places. Are the best institutions items states like why is the northeast so upside down white why are we. Paying sixty and 70000 bucks a year for our kids to go to college and then. Cao is like you know 2030. You to pro make the case that we're down now. You know that we again that's a cut orders drive and I I don't know why you know it's necessarily the case that you see that. He is it something that for what ever reason I think part of it might be new if you look at when a lot of these private schools were found in the northeast. They were founded before or Carly colleges in some case they were probably even before the states that they were in. Existed you know Harvard was before we are contrary big silly yeah exactly so you look at some of these it's like okay late. It makes sense there. Where's he go out to Nebraska and then and it's okay we're new car we set a stay here we need to figure out how to educate our near Orioles great is it too big schools in Arizona Arizona State and you may dip exactly so I think it's probably based on just when those areas were settled that's the most likely explanation than I have no idea that's right but I'll take credit for if it is and if it's not then it's not mindful and easy it denial there will be set and a percent that. And get it. Take a as debt grows among older Americans so does bankruptcy and share this statistic with you it's a little bit frightening. In 2016 the average debt. In families in which the head of the household is 675. Years or older. Was 36757. Dollars that is up from 30288. Dollars and 2010. The economy's gotten better yet old people are burdened with more debt eight years later. And more people are burdened with debt at older ages well you look back to 1995 just 22% of homeowners 65 or older had mortgage debt outstanding. Today it's almost double that at 41%. And you'll get in I think that the key culprit where you saw really the inflection was from 2004 to 2010 where it increased from 30% to 39% mean it's pretty much stayed close at 39%. So it's it's it's very clearly related to the financial crisis either A having to you know pull money out of their home. Just pay for living expenses and up is thought so many people lost jobs and things like that. Or beat. Pulling money out of their home and or to pay for things that they thought they had saved for college and things like that and needing to hate I get a tap my home equity in order to pay for the. So the average monthly Social Security check chock. Is 1404. Dollars and more than 40%. Of single adults received more than 90% of their income from that check. To me is meaning that there forty. So when you look at retirees. Almost half of them the only income they've got Social Security. Why do you think you know you look at it now and in obviously the last twenty years it's you've just seen such stagnant wages overall. Why do you think so many people prior to that had so much trouble saving yours just didn't receive enough what we're doing the reasons all I think the the the big issue chuck here in the recent seniors. Our. In trouble today financially. Some will attributed to health care costs I attributed to a lack of discipline. And invasion of their four when Kate planes you know if you looked if you talk to your grandfather. Dipped god bless them right. He would tell you when I retired I get Social Security check and I got a pension yeah I used to work for IBM to work rate. That's not the case anymore right now what happens Turkey's. Workers retire and corporations no longer give them a pension they say here's a 41 K plan for it. And then we use your ear you live on Nat yeah you know yeah did you see at Steve. OK let's stock Steve there so I really wanted to talk to about as a relates to wage growth Steve Moore. He's a good friend from The Heritage Foundation and our policy would Larry Kudlow I don't sleep. DeMaurice REIT status meeting to sting out of light outside. Captain had to be a little late but a bit well and that they they are great economies are on the job as has the president today. I didn't see the president back you know everybody's doing I mean it's really interesting you know obviously that the last week at the assault against top you know what the McCain funeral and you know this what word bought in you know. An author and New York Times piece and all of these. Ridiculous. Accusations and straw. Are being made and yet you know he's still have this booming economy right. That's what it's eight chair about it really care about that in all the stupid palace intrigue me about jobs and economy and so. There I looked at this morale high over that people feel good and and you know as one of back from a stop me over there they lit upon and I think that's right. So published tomorrow we get a jobs report any expectations. You know Arctic continued strong arm and the UC. You know to put on our terms irons which are still so record while the I think look in that you know somewhere on the neighbor honored. 200000 jobs. You know I don't see how at a let her aching lower than it is already shout it out back in August. By after about spot I'd actually be epic I like I agent you know. You know lack yup. Because that would mean more people aren't worked there a restaurant or any need more workers we need more people not the buy out. In front of the you know or California or anywhere between a ball bottle labor shortage and we we need it. Get all our all are out workers on board and and in the labor force. Does that mean you think will get an increase in the labor participation rates deep. Yeah well it's a yacht so it's probable that suites on the unemployment rate rise. It would be because more people are starting to look for you in the wake people's work. You know that the unemployment. You know the rate is calculated based on all they ask you are you looking for a job. Well if you're unemployed but not looking for a job they don't count US employed doubt we want people that say. You know and ask are you looking for job we want people say yeah. Now add back and that occasion short term can actually have a higher unemployment rate but it would actually be that for the American economy if you catch it. I do woody what do you look at as being V healthy rate of unemployment for a half four point eight. Five tracking that's a good question I reach it used to be that you know up for a half percent unemployment rate or thereabouts or report app or not. Was considered four point. By and that would change that definition over I'm back. But straight somewhere between Puerto you're you're basically out most every American wants the job and a chapter you have natural turnover of people throughout an out of work force. Are you aware what is it not three point eight million this nationally so that means were below hole. People employment rate and got that means as edge that we know from the Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers that there are six and a half million more jobs and our people self. Am so that's why I say we gotta get he swapped the sidelines and into into drops. You know Stevie Condit and of exam about it's gonna argue with you that the you know it beats the economy is ripping. One thing that doesn't seem to be moving though is wage growth. Whit EED do you think we should be calculating it differently. Or are we going to see sustained strong wage growth in the coming. So that's a great question and you know my view that says that. Wage growth is not the right measure. How workers are doing it's one basher but it's not the past not earn near the best basher but wagers. Even watch couple years have been relatively. In terms of the in terms of the you know adjust for inflation but there's a great article today in the ostrich on all of I my friend and artist there he points out orders very well what did that when you take into account. Not just wages but other experts out he went out that Americans. Are now getting more overtime pay and there are there and fewer workers are paid our our jobs more full time job. About means that even other hourly wage may be the same they're making more money again they're getting over our chat where there. They're working 25 hours week worked forty hours a week. And so he points out that that you know incomes for workers as up 44%. Even a wages are only job that I. I noticed this summer I actually cruise to Alaska. And that's that's not a cheap thing that there are about 3000 dollars back person it out like that you know outlaws are and Alicia very striking to me that you know that edge. Ship which was able pastors or cabin that was until. And then ask about Spanish majority of the people on that produced a little odd people there working last minute that told you a lot of people. Or 8000 dollar vacation so you don't look at the consumer numbers. But what happened to mr. Hurst and yet. People are spending because they feel better about that are that are in common and also that while remembered as a while back when you get the stock market that's up 40% two years it's not just help keep people won't stop and you'd better about their financial situation and standing order. Very good with Steve thanks for joining us and a sailor load Larry for an accident or. At Steve Moore from The Heritage Foundation a think he's taken up residence in the White House does every time I talk to him. That's reason. Seems like it to you he's there.
