This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chunks of you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day you're sick leave your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news and every day. And now the financial exchange with a Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. It looks like Canada is coming to the negotiating table but a lot of the president's allies are opposed to this new deal with Mexico and Canada. They're saying that NAFTA part two is much worse than NAFTA one we'll talk about that. And then we want to know your opinion as to what is worse for you. We eat or alcohol hi everybody it's very chart with you here it is a Wednesday morning. And all of a sudden Canada seems to be racing to the negotiating table. Kirstie yeah Freeman who is Canada's foreign minister said on Tuesday. After the meeting with the United States for trades represented Rand representatives. This is a really big deal and it's going to be. Valuable for workers in Canada and the United States boy that's an about face. Yet something where it sounds like they they want pretty strongly to make sure that they are included in any deal. That is negotiated here and so she will be in. In the United States in Washington today and tomorrow arms are rather tomorrow win Friday. To try to figure if there's a way to get candidate into this and also make sure that all of the provisions that are in the deal. Are potentially palatable to Canada and that they're willing to agree on the same terms that the US and Mexico car. And it's important understand why this needs to be done by the end of August. Because they have congress has to sit on this for there for ninety days. Before they can vote on and they wanna do it before we have a new congress. And they got that they are up against the clock there are you know it's gonna be right under the wire it's it's going to be tight to see if they can get this done. Right now I I don't know if they will you know if it would require congress staying in session for extra time as well in order to make sure they can get it done soon. It's there are some big questions as to whether or not this goes into effect if you have a new congress if that new congress ends up being a Democrat controlled congress. You may not be able to get this deal through. The best thing that's on me the perspective is very interesting on this story because. Canada is just 110 the size of the United States. Yet chuck they send three quarters of their exports to the United States it's and so the unit that we. The candidate just does not have. Much of negotiating point now that challenge they have is Donald Trump is very unpopular in Canada. Trudeau prime minister Trudeau is running for reelection. And he appears weak which he does on this issue. It may hurt his reelection. At coda I don't know if that necessarily. If if that necessarily affects where he ends of going with this just because as you said. He does have much choice there's not a whole lot of choice for Canada. On this deal necessarily so. I don't know if it's going to have a huge impact when you look at the internal politics of Canada then I don't understand the internal politics of candidates on up professing to be any kind of expert there. But when you just look at the dollars and cents. It's something we're hate you a candidate needs to be involved in this deal in some way whether their changes that need to happen in order to make this palatable for them you know that that's another question. What brings up a good point in and that is. Is this a good deal for Canada. And the United States I I see where Mexico is gaining from this I'm not sure eight and I look at that. You know there there is an article written that I read. As it relates to. Donald Trump allies being opposed to just deal. Republican band sax it here's a quote from Ben sat and working through the details of the possible US Mexico agreement. But there is reason to worry that this might be a step backward. From NAFTA. For American families especially on fundamental issues of presumed expiration of the deal. And empowering government bureaucrats rather than markets to determine the components in cars and other goods. And that goes to. You're gonna have to make more of the components of these vehicles in North America as opposed to the old. Well and in and look at that is fundamentally. The goal of the trump administration. It's not something they've been trying to hide yup you know this is this is not something that his being in the you know a hidden feature world listen beep wake up zero G they wanna bring production back into the United States. It's been a goal of the trumpet ministries it's been a stated goal I think there are questions as to whether or not. That's the best way to accomplish what you want to accomplish what there's a lot that you think you look at the Cato Institute institute this signing off against. Need this yet I don't really care who's against or for a more interest in hey what's what's actually going on in this deal ray in in here are what the the actual issues are the people brought out. Number one right now NAFTA exists in perpetuity meaning. Unless someone goes and says look I want to leave this and I wanted to cancel this is and it continues to exist. With the new renegotiated deal it's a sixteen year deal why they picked that number of years I don't know. To sixteen year deal and then they have the possibility possibility to either extend for an additional sixteen years or just renew for a shorter six year time appeared. The reason why businesses are concerned when you see a sunset provision like that on something like they don't want spent two billion dollars and factory. It will it in especially as you get close to that let's say that your year to route ended the continued existence of said trade deals in question raised uncertainty potentially adds uncertainty to businesses so that's why businesses don't let sunset and visions. And to be honest of them either because honestly if you don't want to be the deal at some point. Hey. You you deal with you say OK I'm going to have the courage to say were don't believe this and and and we have the votes to do it and so forth and leave it. If you're doing is saying hey we just want this sunset because it might not be right in the future. Kind of a cop out to be honest so I don't love that there's some other things that are interesting in this that as as you start to dig through the details. Don't make a ton of sense. Unless you're looking at the from the perspective of trying to bring bring production back to the US so right now in NAFTA. There are a number of protections. For US investors in Mexico and specifically regards to a the Mexican government can't come in just at or operate year you know physical property like Venezuela did like Venezuela did and also their protections. Just in terms of good faith protections and so forces they can't legislate out US companies as well it's you know it's kind of how they built this can't steal technology he can't steal technology you can't add taxes just for US based companies and things like that. This new deal. Get rid of those protections. OK it still doesn't allow for physical expropriation saying okay you know Mexico kick coming in to say hey we're gonna take over that auto plant to Mexico and tax. Mexico can taxed at it and also beyond that they can add enough red tape on US based companies if they want to to make US companies. And kind of under that's itself on. That's self defeating season and they do that. Well here's the thing if they're trying to support their own company's new it's not and it also has the effect of making US companies want to bring production back to the US which is why I say. This is a feature not a bug yup this is intentional. This is in here. Because I I think the trump administration is saying look we want to make the climate abroad and little bit less hospitable for US companies of their force to bring production back domestic and that was that was part they clap I don't think they're hiding it. I don't think that provisions a good thing because it doesn't allow for. You know economies of scale it to really take place on the international level but. This a feature it's not a blog this is what they're trying to do here bright and I think there are questions on some of these provisions hate does this make the most sensible. We'll find out only time will tell. There's talk about candidates yesterday we asked that question as to whether or not candidates should be legalized on a federal level. Final results on that temperament 63%. Yellows like 6040. Sixty Labor Day events is fair in favor of legalizing them on a federal not just on the federal state and local level. I came across some scientific research as a relates to campus and where to share and Daniel be able to participate in a poll. I knew a large new study suggested that for people between the ages of fifteen and 49 years old. Alcohol was the leading risk factor for death in the year 2016. Right so we're we're kind of walking through Milwaukee through that the pros and cons of alcohol verses candidates. But for fifteen to 49. Alcohol leading risk factor for death this a couple of years ago 2016. The lancet this study found that among people aged fifteen to 49. Alcohol use is leading health risk across the globe with three point 8% of all female deaths and twelve point 2% of all male deaths. Attributable to alcohol and how many deaths total Lewis that was in there to 30000. Yeah how many for Canada us. I'd non-GAAP and non there's your answer me that well that's one point. At one point death we we we have that we we've got other stuff to talk about it because it one of the things it is a little disconcerting is the mental part. Let's see they have been easier documented deaths okay. Marijuana appears to be significantly. Less addictive than alcohol yet mail without a doubt. Most studies of found that pretty conclusively yet you watch somebody go with her alcoholic. Gorgeous and all images addicted and they don't well yeah Betty yet the district but I'm talking about like if you RC. Somebody goes you know it it's physically addictive and alcohol. Marijuana however Tucker may be harder on your heart while moderate drinking might be that beneficial. There's some candidates can be bad and bad for your heart. Alcohol is strongly linked with several types of cancer marijuana is not linked with cancer. Both drugs may be linked with risks while driving and alcohol is worst you buy that no. You think he canvases justice that I I I think in certain situations it's certainly can be. The highly in the the traffic safety administration said go in their studies. That you're better driver on canvas and you are now all we've got here better driver. On campus unable either but it's huge it's still a worse driver than if you were driving so that god. Several studies linked alcohol with violence particularly at home that has not been found for cam and canvas I have tough a tough time wrapping my head around that just because it's tough to find what's causing what's effects and you know were people who were more violent more prone to drink or people who were drinking more prone to violence it's. Kinda tough to separate those two issues in all cases let's talk about memory issues both drugs negatively affect your memories but in different ways. That when we're done. Both Paltrow memory nationally I gaffe. Q I don't worry about it. Here's one note that you you need to look at. Both drugs are linked to an increased risk of psychiatric. Disease for Wii users psychosis and schizophrenia. Our main concern with boos not into the depression and anxiety. Generally it's you you're talking about the specific mechanisms that there are working on in the brain there not alcohol appears to be more tied closely to weight gain despite marijuana triggering. Demolished she's occasionally yeah and you know so that this study kind of looked out and said OK when you when you add everything together than. Profile marijuana appears to be safer in general and I tend to agree with that. Well that's our poll question what is worse for you marijuana or alcohol. Right now 42% of you think marijuana is worse and 57%. Think alcohol is the worst thing you can do. Probably the best thing you do is abstain from both right. Yeah I mean in a perfect world bureau it's too good Mormon or you know I don't smoke you're doing and right you don't need you don't do either but. That's not our poll question we wanna know from your perspective. What do you think is worse marijuana or alcohol you can participate in the poll by visiting our website financial exchange showed dot com you can also. Time now for Wall Street watch a look at the market's performance so far today it until Darian jug right here on the financial exchange radio network. The markets are open era. Positively thus far do you think we get a pop shop on Friday if candidates signs off on this NAFTA part to order in Monaco. Kabila and I don't know if there's too much left on that at this point now. You know it's I think the big question is can you actually get this thing through congress and in the time that you need to. You know honestly I get it done before war basically he'd need to get it done right around Thanksgiving and they have to sit on it for ninety days they don't have a chance at Thanksgiving now. Now they have to write it actually ninety days so they have to get it done before the next congress it's assuming they lose the congress which is not it Oregon and it's going to be an early January if they get on if they get them at all. Yeah apparent. And we we about that whole question about Kansas which what what's worse in your opinion. Booze or wheat. You can participate in the poll by visiting our website financial exchange showed dot com I just at a couple text messages that feel like Andy to share 754. Right. Bury my brother smoked weed for twenty plus years and one day he was hospitalized with psychosis after months in the psych unit. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia. There's no history of mental illness in our family so I think it could have been the weed but. PS. He was also. He eat it sounds like the he had the whole gamut covered. In years and another. There's a lot of they. 413 right to can't deal on pot. 603 right Kerry I'm a former Oprah don't let anybody tell you they're not impaired while smoking dope now denying that now. In the same and there's an interest in one from five await my promises truck driver who gets tested. Might going to play game cards guys drinking and not get drunk but if they're smoking weed he's gonna test. Positive you know they'll bring up anyway that's that's where we are well aware of the results on the pole so far talker. 61% of our listeners think alcohol is worst for you 61 and tell what I'd expect some fortunately all 562. Is that people are voting. You know I think it's unfair though because. Because marijuana is an illegal drug. I'm not sure that there a lot of studying has been done on you know elected to find out a one thing that would worry me is. If there's an increased use among teenagers because we know yes that. Teenage use of candidates really screws up but it. Yes that's that's the big thing and specifically that's the age were if you wore a heavy marijuana user during your teenage years. That's where potentially has a very elevated risk if things like bipolar disorder like schizophrenic and things along those lines. So it is something where you say okay we can make this legal. But we need to make sure that we're protecting our kids because there are impacts that you can't really reversed. If you have it early on as promised. We're we're talking about how to save a few bucks on your cell phone bills sprint. Is bringing back their kick start promotion offering unlimited data. Pretty good unlimited data for 25 bucks a month if you switch how long is this good. This is probably going to be going for the next week or so and so it's a pretty quick turn around the gap to make in order to switch I just switch this morning. But how long so he made the switch I made the switch this morning from AT&T okay. And I'm AT&T I was in their cheapest plan I was getting only one gigabyte of data a month and I was paying 55 dollars a month. So I switch because I'm gonna say about 400 bucks over the course of the year. He likes he switcher weigh this against which are at this point I'm gonna kind of run it I bet how long is this sprint deal good for like in the east change and dealing in three months it's there's no long term contracts or they could potentially change that in the future and they'd do which I can just go back you know I don't have any kind of contractor or anything like that so your phone number kept my phone number I get every I get my new sim card tomorrow so I go on its sprint network tomorrow and then I'd deactivate my AT&T service. But I look at this nice say. Look most of the time AM around Wi-Fi. Beat most of the time at least were I am and I'm driving. My signals pretty good anyways I need to make a phone call them or can sweep until I get wherever I'm going anyway I was desperate servicing your home I don't send nude I tell you laugh actually. I agree Libya Wi-Fi anyway OK you'd be in a tip your home babies and wife iPhone don't I'll I'll be on Wi-Fi at home but I did check the the map for that their coverage right around my area. And it was I was right on the border of their strongest coverage so it looks like it's gonna be pretty good form me and keep mine were I grew up I grew up in Framingham. I almost couldn't use my cell phone there so you would recommend people at least look into the sprint deal. I would take a look at I can't make any claims as to the quality of their network because I've never been on it. But I looked at this and I said look I'm missing 400 bucks a year on something I don't really care too much for him anyway. And so from my perspective. You know anything that I can do to reduce phone bills utility bills water you know anything along those lines then I'm all work is then that's more money that I can either put away and save more spend on things that I actually care about not on. You know the electricity being you know one cent more per kilowatt out like that. I'm all about trying to save on news that those things. That really are they're the commodity. It's what is the last time he has read in newspaper. That a physical one and a physical newspaper not not on your phone not on your computer you charged. In a while years you have. I'll tell you these tariffs yet been by while spelled the end of the news printed newspaper. Yet that this is this is like it's it's kind of like the final nail on the coffin. It's this is this kind of intra stinks so a lot of newsprint is imported from Canada. And what you saw is that the initial duties that were placed in a put in place. On. On the American imports of newsprint in January and march because the price of newsprint despite 30%. At one point. Not in since then the tariffs have been capped at 17%. But it's still a significant expense for a lot of these newspapers. And so they're sitting there saying look we we need a little help in order to in order to stay in business look. Defeated Tampa Bay times that's Florida's largest newspaper said it was cutting fifty jobs. Thing about paper with the Boston Herald. Right nobody nobody goes to their website is not terribly friendly right. And does does the Boston Herald survive. Because that's an added cost that I doubt very much they can pass on monitors to move to per entries so general pace of no mechanic pass that cost on to their consumer. I don't know. It's. You know this this is one of those things where you talk about the collateral damage of these tariffs. You wouldn't sit there and Sergi is gonna put the that you're the domestic newspaper business out of business. But in some cases where you have companies that are already stressed and not necessarily able to withstand much of a fluctuation that ten and I lost as a Tampa Bay paper data three million bucks a year. That's not a small piece that's a small chunk of change there you're you're talking about big money and so this is why. Com hi everybody it's Berrian Todd with you here with a quick tip from the legal exchange showed doc common. Todd I wanted to talk to you about the five year waiting period for Medicaid eligibility. As it applies to the use of the medic and a light to stay so let's say I Cree I give by house away. I give it to the kids. Does that five year clock start ticking if I'd done elect the state yes so if you're taking your house and many people do this if you take in your house and transferred to the children. And reserves the right to live there you know does that create a five year Medicaid out absolutely it and that's the definition of elect's right giving your stuff away. Give it away but you you do reserve that right to live so that's at least something that you're keeping which which is certainly helpful to you must pay the property taxes and maintain the property. The property taxes and maintaining is all done by the light Tenet you know. But I I want to stay on the five year waiting period just for minute because so many people think that it doesn't apply either and the like the state arrangement like you mentioned Barry. And also too when they make you hear people I can give 141000 dollars a year away because I I can do that and not pay any gift taxes that's true. That's an IRS regulation. You'll pay any gift taxes but you will have a five year waiting period. For Medicaid eligibility so it does apply to almost all transfer since including. A life estate arrangement. So yes it does apply. Folks Cushing and all and is making a brand new guide available and it's very helpful for those of you who are thinking about giving your house solely use like the state compares the advantages and disadvantages. Cheese is high in saturated fat which is often considered dangerous for your heart most nutritionists. Say that we should only nibble limited doses of the heart clogging fat. However and this is good news for trucks ought to. There's a study that's been done of 164. Overweight middle aged Irish adults and it was published in the American journal of clinical nutrition earlier this month. It found chopped. That participants who incorporated walks a full fat Irish cheddar cheese in their diets while limiting other dairy intake to just two ounces of milk per day. Did not gain weight. Well this is great news I think I know G-Unit you know I hear that she's been you know you know I got my wife for her birthday this year you don't tell me utterly torments of cheese twelve months she's. It's it's that she's the month go and how much of it does she actually senses we're about us 6040. You know I'm about 60% she's about 40% jewels cheese to that it was any good they would own and we got the first shipment about a week ago. And he is outstanding with the cops. So it's three cheeses a month. And you get a little under round of the too good about two thirds were pounded each suit about two pounds of cheese total that you get every month. And it's I think around. 3035 bucks a month somewhere in that led to a small when it's there I'll cut it comes at the same time yes he get all three cheeses and what one shipment would be refrigerated in the summer and they've been dry ice. Just packed with a little right guys afterward got winters looking to just be put in a plastic bag for all like two months. But. Yes this is this is great news for me because the amount of cheese that I eat is me and I had typically would say enough to be a kill small horse but apparently that Korea it's actually good for me you know more it's enough to keep the small horse a lot of that is the other matter on who. Can you do that like is it only a one size fits all notes are you you can customize and at the company that does this actually also operates. Taylor Swift is about to get paid big time. I'm really curious to see what she does here I know I'll dad owns part of the company that she's with now she's with the big machine records. And they alone all of her music for the last what thirteen your yen and and they pretty much until she was until she became his biggest years. They were really just a small indeed you know label out of Nashville that was under the universal label. But pretty much they've they've absolutely blown up largely because of her she makes about 80% of their sales in any given year but their country right in night do you guys think of Taylor Swift as being country she originally was her last like pop her last three albums have not been country anyways I prefer she kinda said look this is where I wanna go with my music you know really blame her because. A three miners I I think it's worth the money is now think. Two out of three of her last albums have been. Really really strong. But she's created her contract is up that for the first time in thirteen years and so the question is. Look to see stick where she is because her dad is invested in the label does she go to a different big labeled him OG pop somewhere else potentially. Or does she say look how big enough. And I know that label for distribution why in my opinion someone to do this and I wanted build a few feet analyst indeed and I don't think so no. I believe I'll have to check just to confirm. I thought she would today to seldom known she's I still. I I know I understand you. You know appreciate Taylor Swift but if I had to choose between the concert so don't have under the Columbia label she is just you still on Colombia I can I go it didn't really June Tucker if you had a choice you can only see Adele Taylor Swift and. Term. Neither. It's about what you go to and it's tougher ticket Tucker picks Vincent van I don't want to vote possessions off. A pro ago details. Out of Taylor Swift coming on the bill. Leader bank east. It. So were zeroing in on what's gonna happen with Social Security we need a little bit more data before we can tell you the final number. But it does appear. That retirees who are currently collecting Social Security retirement benefits are gonna get their biggest pay increase on January 1 between nineteen. That they've had since what 2012. You know what it's looking like right now is if if we didn't see any inflation in August and September. Kind of unlikely and then they would get 82 point 7% increase. In their Social Security payment for the next year that would be as you said the biggest increase since 2012 when it was three point 6%. If you do see inflation continue at the rate we've seen over the last couple more that are over the last really six months now of that call can actually and a 3%. Now there's a caveat here okay. In that a number of people who are collecting Social Security have had what's have had effectively what's called the hold harmless provision in effect for their Medicare payments. What that means is that if their if their cost of living adjustment. Is less than the increase of the cost of the Medicare payment increases going forward it pretty much says look we're not gonna increase your Medicare more than the cost of living. And so we're gonna cap spending so what you might see. Is for some people even though the coal is 3% here want that could get eaten up by additional costs in Medicare. Yeah off in the end and a lot of people that would that will do his level lies. The Medicare preakness because if you will paint all kinds of different Medicare you got all kinds different numbers you just because you've been retired for ten years. You may not get an increase in your should be net and net increase no suckers what might happen as your benefit might go from 11100 dollars to 11130 no but you Medicare payment might go from 110 up to 140 it's that entire piece up so the biggest beneficiary struck correct me if I'm wrong but. Would be people who are recently retired or about to start collecting Social Security probably in the last two years now there there are people who because they're not getting every now it could be case where if you were retiring India 222011. And that's when he started collecting and Medicare costs going up could eat up just about all of that cost of living adjustment. Now it's it won't be at every it's it's really a case by case basis which makes it's so hard to figure out. But there's definitely people aware that will be you know the case for the it's ever heard of a plan by the way our text numbers by the way 781. Says that Taylor Swift is a no brainer at Dell a super depressing and I agree 100% with that. And at some times I wanna be like what guys like I don't wanna go out to cry and he just EEE. What kind of sector struggled when rates are going up Michael we talk about your interest for everything mortgages. Credit cards. Yes they are technically paying out a little bit more on CDs and bank deposits as well but they usually more than making up for that on the on the charges at when we look on the downside because as much as there might be good news and some sectors there's always another area that ends of struggling what parts the economy what types of stocks might struggle. If rates go up well two big areas tend to be utilities and real estate on the real stateside it's pretty obvious if mortgage rates go up ban people are going to be able to afford less real estates that makes sense utilities it's a little bit less obvious but effectively a lot of investors by utilities because they're seen as replacement to CDs or bonds in some cases because their relatively safe investments when interest rates go up sometimes they sell those safe investments in favor of those CDs and bonds folks we've given you a couple. Stocks are up I'll leave it at that there are rumors circulating that a NAFTA deal will in fact he negotiated by Friday. Let's just leave it there because we don't have any hard data to share with you we're gonna talk today. About well. We hear is Amazon gonna go Miami had a pretty good report card they going to Miami. Will also discussed the hardest college to get into in every state. And then finally. Talk about what's worse for you read or alcohol hi everybody Darian talk with you here it's a Wednesday morning and you don't Miami. People people don't give Miami a lot of credit as it relates to being a candidate for each cute too. But I did notice Jeff puzzles repair. Jeff Bezos grew up there and also when you take a look at the overall area. It does checked a number of boxes that Amazon is looking out. When it comes to new kind of the key things I have number one obviously got an airport that's all kinds of international flights he trails transportation stroked them it's on the East Coast. You got a big population. You know it's an established city there's not too much that you need to do in terms of brand new infrastructure in order to be able to accommodate this. I think the one question. Is when you're comparing it to a number of these other cities that are out there it's not the Miami doesn't have good educational facilities there is university of Miami's phenomenal school. At by you was been making some really good progress in the last couple years but. You look at the depth that you say okay. The boss mayors got you know 25 great schools you look at feel it's got you know ten great schools. I don't know if Miami has the depth of education that some of the competitors to enact. I think you raise a good point there because. The did the I think you could attract talent to Miami had been expected coming at a Georgetown. Would consider it an easy right. The team coming out of Harvard Boston University Yale they would consider going to Miami it's a cool city to be in the young people it's a young person's city's very diverse. What I come back to. It matters too much where they go in terms of their ability to attract talent. And you know it was always going to be able to get people just from looking at the Amazon name. To go wherever they want all internal matter bear on Tony they could set themselves up in Boise now and they have no problem getting people to come work that I disagree we with a five years boys it would be a company town I think I I trust me on lake. People will follow that company to go work for them I don't think they well I I think I'm I'm I'm telling you know boys and one of the infrastructure support I own more millennia than you'd. But he owned. No linkage you know we had them read it but I mean I I paid day I paid for the denial. If I think. If they get and gave up diet last name behind that's well done there I do like that the I think the biggest issue on Miami in the biggest selling point. Is Jeff Bezos went to school he's valedictorian at the high school pal palmetto high school. I I get a tally for a kid to be able to go home and take a victory lap in his hometown. I think gets under estimate I could see this guy going to blame and real as the jet business went to Princeton. I like and I like it must now he's not a dumb guy now he's very Smart guy but you if you really that's Marty when it on the Princeton. It's about the hardest colleges to get into in every state speaking of Florida their ego would be University of Miami. Yep Miami is a phenomenal school in the toughest school to get into. In Florida going through you know most of these kind of made sense if you take note down county alphabetical us Connecticut was Yale. Near Delaware Delaware State you kind of go through you know Florida the ones are good Georgia Tech can email me warning is obviously cal tech mean I think people would debate this one balloon. What do you think is in this in the running as well don't get dates and it's pretty good thing bodes probably are better schools there. I think it I think it's probably better school Massachusetts I do put up for grabs today they say that Harvard was the ties to get into I think MIT's had a hard way. Not not far away but I still do put it a notch above anything else as to why not helping me get better kids pretty much smarter kid pretty much lemon cal tech etiquette to best schools in the country and New Hampshire and that's a no brainer right. Yeah New Hampshire or not. I mean what Rhode Island else is it going to be in the hands well in these are it's the only Ivy League school in the state. On news it's the finest educational institution in the country my all and so you know I'm just saying in Rhode Island is Brown University. Yeah all those are you know kind of a no brainer if you. We are having as we do every day we have me poll question. And it talks about whether what's worse for wheat or alcohol so you know here your fifty years old in your gun. Use something you're neither use alcohol to relax tree and use we need to relax which is worse for you in terms of your help. We have a poll going on that topic a over the past two days you've been insisting on calling candidates but for the sport question you were for errors week. Hannah with. Tree. Greenery shrubs IE. Look I don't care what radio I'm just curious what people thinking. So far Tucker in after the first hour of the show winner numbers first hour of the show 63%. Of our listeners think that alcohol. It's worse for you. They're both bad. I think when I think we have the recognizes. It probably abstinence. From bull is better than that and yeah it goes without saying but if you're gonna use something. Scientific researcher would seem to indicate. That alcohol. Has it worse that that that after reading the reports are the that was by that that's what I the conclusion I derive those. Okay you shouldn't use side there right but if you're going to. Hanna this is not as bad for you as well that was after it. And I again I don't have a horse in this race and probably also depends on your specific lifestyle. You know give your truck driver you're not you're not able leaves campus right. You know just because they're they're going to drug test but here I think we need answering nice day it seemed like when I was raising my all angles. It was the the summer of tenth degree with me started drinking yup right is that. In general that's probably accurate again you know pilots after a year you're going to be and upperclassmen and now that summer's one night Randi accurately when I would catch my kids drinking. I think I would rather catch a seventeen year old drinking alcohol and with smoking because the psychiatric effects of marijuana and young brains. That and the path that you're following. Yeah today is that day and I'm with you which passed with you well that the drug if you're trying marijuana. How far you wave from you know or are you more likely try heroin. Dan if you're drinking booze a I'd love to see the numbers on that like I just don't know if sales studied apple peel it right. And he said to them okay you go down in into the city. And C in new survey. In thousand. OP. Was candidates the gateway drug out and try OP. So there's there's been studies on this a lot of them kind of have moved past marijuana as that quote deeply drug habit and it is the big thing. Is that is so if you go through on pulled up the the data right now from the where the heck is this national institute of health I think I'm I'm I'm pulled up that they are now some might take me a minute. But it it showed. That attempted to. Kerio. So it's people who used marijuana. An already had an alcohol use disorder at the outset they were of greater risk of substance use and abuse disorders in the future then. But it's if you look at its largest marijuana use on its own. It typically did not predict any type of disorder in the future in place so it paid to it again. Part of it is it's tough to study this because difficult to get funding for marijuana research because of how it's scheduled right now it's not impossible it's really hard. And so we don't have a ton of great. Data necessary. It. When we take a look at the issues that are out there related to student loans and specifically what the CF PB was trying to. Oversee. Only cracked up what will have always and it. 100 every are a bit because people aren't aware out there are packed with. I. Exactly sell kind of an issue and when you look at the not cool when your considered thought. And it that are taking out well. Our people are voting on a great deal so obviously there is an issue where. The floor puppet who better kind of taking a little bit more of that as is that you know they're borrowing. They kind of go across the border and like there's people are affected by that no matter what was your. So what resources specifically to the CF PB have to try to deal with the student loan issue. Well basically brought in our positions yet. There. Again watch target kind of the term that being third round but. But quota that unit and it's their apparent because young people are currently make more form of financial decisions about David and think they they are paying for politics don't. Typically they're battered into your questions about. No privacy chuck and Mike from the financial exchange in. What do you talked a little bit about how to invest any rising interest rate environment the Federal Reserve has raised rates twice already this year. The most likely projection. Two more hikes over the remainder of the year and Mike. Let's talk first with bonds when we talk about bonds and conventionally US treasuries. They tend to move as rates go up well. They tend to be in adversely correlated the price in abundance embers are correlated to the interest rates prevailing interest rates that are out there in this generally make cents you know if if interest rates go up and suddenly you can go by that same bond that's paying higher rate of interest that the price of your bond is going to be less valuable this gets inflated the longer term that bond days of you have a ten year bond. That price impact is going to be a lot more significant than a five year. So effectively that the part of your portfolio that you typically think to be safe money and most stable. You might have to make some adjustments in order to make sure that you're not losing principled during this time if you have the intention of selling as rates are going up. That's absolutely correct and if you haven't made those adjustments already this year you've likely seen in impact to your bond portfolio. Specifically when retirement that you wanna take a look at what's called the duration of your bonds. And make sure that you know it's just at least in line with the overall marketplace and you understand the impact of rising interest rates on. I did the other question was what was the the US plane that was used in top gun as they stand in for enemy migs would obviously they want don't have access to megs. The answer was the Northrop F five. And Glenn from Eliot Maine had the right answer and Glenn is taking home a fifty dollar gift to get Arnold's. Down the cape and. It's to enjoy them so. The last car companies to go public in due and IPO I would think was test tonight missing was. At least the last American car company out there might be held in China has gone public recently but on their exchange on over here Aston Martin. Going public and there are famous because of the James Bond. Yeah this is it in my opinion is kind of a sad day similar to what we saw when Ferrari IPO a couple years ago and that's why well it's it's it's because the forces that dictate what a company does once it's public or different from those form for a privately held company. You know part of the reason why Ferrari has such mystique why Aston Martin have such mystique but is because they make so few vehicles you know Ferrari in particular thinking when make like a few thousand vehicles a year so they unit now beef up their production it's usually like yeah come on production or raise prices and ordered connected to generate return for stockholders. And so I just I just worry about it deluding the value of the brand in the long. Meal for ours are gonna lose their value instantly we just saw a couple days ago that they you know Ferrari. 250 from back in 1962 was the highest priced auction vehicle ever forty million dollars. But I look at it no longer and I say. And I just I just don't know if you want those those those companies being in the hands. Of public investors they have different goals from you know what to what they previously had I think it'd be received. I would imagine it'll probably go offline candidate he's a lot of people buys it just doesn't want to own it it's it's a good and you know this that I can have problems there but. I just worry about the long term degradation of that brand in that you know you're you're going to lose some of that exclusivity and some once they go public somebody else but it's also it's you lose some of that mystique when you become a publicly traded company in some of that mystery because I like it to wat you know when Goldman Sachs when pulp and we used to have this you know this or that it was you know kind of you know you're behind the Kurds see her really see what happens there had a sign in the building stalled and in went became publicly traded at. It's not necessarily that everything changed but it's just a very hostile to them when they do an elated and you can never get that back. Him nearly one half of movie pass subscribers are considering canceling this according to a nurse new survey that was done. Are you one of them now it's still a good deal. A media people here at the companies had their problems I don't. Just you know and I'm not trying to I'm not here to defend movie pass and I don't own their stock. But he you pay ten bucks a month. And you go to watch three movies a month in three want. One movie cost you more than ten dollars so if you go to C one movie a month that your band mates. And I can you met Mays for like 78 box. Area. And IIQ may I go at night. An and and when I go if if I have to buy a ticket chuck it's like thirteen fourteen bucks. Yeah it's it still can be a good deal of fear of Reno going those three times a month with Asia's rice a part of the reason why movie passes likely going to be out of business in the near future that you see I think this the way they changed their pricing though. I think will save them for so guy like me I'll keep paying it right in I'll probably use it. Ten or fifteen times a year so they're not the be they're not gonna lose much money on me if anything in the and now they've got three million people. There are subscribers. They might have three million people but if they're losing money on all of them it doesn't matter what they're not losing money wise the stock down 75% in the last two weeks now that's a problem. The market cap on this company right now is twelve million dol I should die. Yes you should. It by the couple it will deter speculative. What won't deter in the conflict what would you would you raise the price which are restrict the number of movies some more. I wanna see they would have that you run in the company noted save I want to see what happens with the if if people use it three times a month. Because if the people that use it you know ten times a year they're gonna make money. It it just depends on how much people use it the fact that half of their subscribers are considering canceling. Is a problem because it probably the lighthouse bella that half the sadness and okay only use this once a month the ones that are you know when your situation that are gold three times and want to say and yet still a good deal from CA MC should I've. And why because the the the one thing you can't refute these. Movie theater attendance is a wise aims to need to buy them. What they have their own competitive product but they could buy them for the list of people amend it gets a party. Prominent you know they see all the credit card transactions that come through and so forth so. Once it's on a valiant and actually as were speaking the stock continues to decline in value its market cap is now eleven point nine million dollars who lost an additional 1% or the highway we were talking finally to laughter line the price paid need to take bare by the time we get toward next commercial. It's it it's just a miserable experience and one of the worst parts of it. Is that you have to go to these clinics yup that three times a week and a terrible now in Mickey Wright uttered a few noted well evidently you do. People just absolutely hate going to put. Yes it's it is something that is just today gave a real burden for people because again it it something where you have to go to an eight facility somewhere else suffering from kidney failure yeah it's two or three times a week you don't feel good on that they take hold data recover in the need to do to hold dog and pony show again pretty much a day and a half later. And so what this company called outset is doing not outset medical is they have built a what what's sized as a 37 inch dialysis clinic pretty much on wheels are they can be brought into someone's home they've had these in the past chuck petition darn expensive. They are that the big thing there working on is trying to continuing to try to get the cost down on this. And trying to make this a service that is may have feasible and cost effective compared to having to go. To a neo what's effectively Croatian facility. Yet people with money already do. You make if you're wealthy you're already doing mistreatment at home. But it if you're this is meant toward the product outset is trying to come up with is a more affordable. Method for people that are tremendously well to be able to do. Yen and and pretty much they're saying look we wanna have this machine you can pretty much plug into a faucet and you get the ability to self service. Whenever you want the the CEO of the company Leslie trig and her quote is that she wants this to be the Tesla of kidney dialysis NASA might one of rebrand that given you know what castle's been going through this year but the point still stands and in that she's saying look this is a business that largely has been kind of stagnant over the last twenty years what it what it is ray is what it was in the late. Ninety what do you think the crisis to. It today I don't know what to help with the cost of dialysis is today to be honest well if you're covered by insurance it needs to do it at home is a lot tree. Yeah the other thing is you need somebody there that can insert the the the device. He can't be generally can't do your own self treat it says this is needed care so this is important is your spouse this is according to the US real data system which. I didn't know exist but apparently does and it's phenomenal. One year of chemo dialysis. Typically is around 72000. Dollars a year right the year yet again covered by Medicare give it but just in terms of pay what you need to get the cost down to on this in order to be a make it competitive for Medicare. You've got to get it in that ballpark. You know what they use I figured him to get down a lot lower because I think would round up happening is. People will be treated at home their husbands or their wives will be working as the caregiver. And it will save a lot of money in health care system US. Patients. Spent 42 billion dollars total year on dialysis. 34 billion of that is absorbed through the Medicare and people would rather be if he talked to Diallo's right you home they'd prefer to be at home. Absolutely and the it's it's it's it's two issues one its cost and safety. Mean those those are the issues that way they go to the clinics and they hate the clinics the need absolutely you you never hear anybody saying well this is a pretty good dialysis. They'll say. There are suggestions news. Don't borrow more money to pay for college then you can expect to earn in your first year after graduation itself. Let's for instance say you are. Going to be a social worker when you graduate college what's a social worker make forty grand a year and a ballpark. So there advice is don't borrow more than 40000 dollars if that's what you're playing do you have for profession. Conversely. If you worry computer scientists. And computer science engineer. We enemy when you graduate college eighty. Sanity and maybe that's even middle of the road there you could do morphed into one of the big guys rate you're. I'm an out there if you go to FaceBook Rennes coolly making 150 grand stock options okay so. They you can affordable more than you could borrow 150. I think it's a good benchmark I don't know fits perfect but it's you know they've obviously looked at this more than I have in terms of the specific dollar valuation. And I think it's decent benchmark migrate the B out not everybody has its option. But one. I saw you know it's just one kid that he graduated college. He hit like 35000. Dollars in debt from him and his father. News for an if you're allowed the kid loophole for year after graduating college which I'm not sure I would do. It just. The he moved to only paid up all of that and when you're. Good way to go about it if you can. You know literally as if your if your parents. Are willing in in I don't know if that's. Tough that that's a big thing a year is a long time I mean when I when I graduated I was back home for. After four months four months four months. Four months. And telling your vote and and by the end of four months I don't think anyone wanted me there anymore. Myself Leo either me or my parents it was hey this has been nice but you don't ever do this again and I don't know about it that that it does change the locks you up. The chains like before it. I was still living there like OK just say this is now it's going to be like when you get back it's like I came in groups that are if you guys remember but few years ago. We did a profile program called the last month. And California yank them located at its at a program that helps inmates these are people in jail. Get educated arm arm of this and California computer programming the Intel really it's it's working its it to me they now have enough time where there they're seeing it work yet and in in what what they're seeing the results are pretty staggering actually in that. Prisoners who participate. In these educational programs. Have a 43%. Lower chance of returning to prison in it is they get out of jail. Well first of all there are also coming into the job market and by the way my mom just text me is she's. Listening but my mom loves college counselors involved in this stuff obviously and she just said don't move back. Does he thought he said what do you think we've moved to us just trying to lose my number. OK. Can I finish. What she said is that the advice that was given there is the same advice that she gives her students and she knows her stuff so. Yup I would trust me I I think it's 81 of all if it be nice to be able to graduate college without any student. I did that would be a perfect world yeah optimal yeah one way to do that is the service I am so few kids seem to use the military serve not many people do these days now it he really doesn't seem like many people do I took one of my voice it to the army and navy recruiting office. I whistled I I wanted him to join. I wanted to do and what branch. And I and in care of the you know preference no they just thought he'd eat you as one of my son's. And I got four and he's one of my sons who liked thought could have really benefited. From the structure than a military service would give him needed up at that point in his life. And Indy. Defied me went on to college and graduate say you know we tip things turned out well but I thought he would benefit and in the financial package went pointless. The financial package you get track from joining the military is fantastic. You get a oh yeah Lotta benefits Aaliyah market seems to be rallying Dow's up 84 points nasdaq's up 64. Going I don't like is oil is up 77 cents a barrel at 6930. We've seen a moral right here on the financial exchange.
