This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chunks of you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. It does appear that there is a trade agreement to be had with Mexico. And the timing of it is opportune because of some of the political constraints south of the border. We're going to be talking about that were also talked about auto makers were they winners as a result of this trade deals Mexico. And then finally. If the auto makers are winners what does that mean. To the price the next car that you wanna purchase hi everybody it's very and John Moody with you here. It's a Tuesday morning and we got wind of this yesterday morning heck we had a pretty good stock market rally. As a result on Monday which is continuing into today John. Yeah no question about that and a lot of that is enthusiasm that a US Mexico trade deal seems to be in the works just a matter of dotting the I's and crossing the t.s and a couple of issues but that right now at this point. The issue now really is almost turned into Canada wondering you know as they will jump on the bandwagon and join. United States in Mexico what appears to be a bilateral agreement that they have it's a big breakthrough you know like I just talked about a couple minutes ago that. A year ago I told you the US and Mexico were gonna come to agreement on something to do with the NAFTA rift yup. We would view that as very positive news play in these are mine currently it would I think people need to. Keep in mind is. We did terra NAFTA and and drive like these these are. Modest changes on the edges of the deal but they could have a fairly significant impact on parts of the country. No question about that it also has the details on this. Are the agreement says it like forty to 45%. Of a car built must be made by workers earning at least sixteen dollars an hour which is huge because in Mexico a lot of those workers are making eight. Right the average though is is going to be figured out and it is an increase yeah and at the march that does make a little bit of a difference. The thing that's can be really hard when force that's actually pretty big deal. Is that it requires that 75%. Of the cars parts and must come from North America that what do you think that's going to be heard of course because a lot of those cheap parts are coming out of Asia they are but you've got to identify all of the parts of a car of which there are. Thousands neo and right now we're requirement is that 63%. Of the parts very have to comes with huge increase. The market does make givers the thing is this as though is it's an interesting message that the US and Mexico are now kind of on the same page. In the real irony is that a liberal populist. Taking over now found himself in agreement with a conservative populist tunnel ice issues relating to. Hang Mexicans more money. Both drove to participate changed the whole yes Specter being conservative who were too many of news or use our. What lit traditionally union type guy use and and unions had been. Part of the democratic midwest progressives are saying they find themselves on the same page with the president a chance their own party because it's. Far to the left where they wanna be right the that's the real ironic thing here is that a socialist populist in Mexico. Found total agreement that. His people need to be making more money right and that's exactly what troubles but thanks but that it now will we have to try to figure out I don't think anybody has an exact answer to a it's kind of like or you know when we decided okay we're gonna start developing our own oil and becoming energy independent. The costs have gone up consider where paid a lot more for gas and lead in the early nineties. So when you look at that I think we need to anticipate. That the price of either a new car or even a used car. Is gonna go up the debate pay more for your vehicles no question about that and again we can do on a micro sense look piece by piece that's okay. This little five dollar piece is now five dollars and forty cents. And this little piece that six boxes now seven box that adds up. As some point out the buried at this is something is buyer beware. It's even if this didn't happen. Higher transaction prices are coming with the mix higher mix of utility vehicles and light trucks replacing sedans. More technology content that were asking for bird do you my money that we and then Carson last longer to and they do so but the woodlands you know I've bought cars in the eighties terribly but it is like. I never kept the more than 60000 miles because they're gonna die. Yeah it they. Your car when he hit 60000 miles your okay oh yeah this is this thing's gone now active kids are driving around Carson 1284880000. Miles and you can do that you actually can do that. We are saying that. The least reliable car built today. Is as reliable as the most reliable car fifteen to twenty years ago and that's the kind of revolution it's happened. One interesting point too that really pay more but it lasts longer. It clearly last longer but you can be paying possibly quite a bit more for the vehicle I mean the average new price is 35 I hear that they were paying more for oil. But it's helping the economy because there's so many people working in this field so if the objective here is to have more jobs come back to the United States right in and some of the areas like Michigan and Ohio where which were devastated yup. If more manufacturing jobs come back there you that should offset the price increase. The race clearly moderates and put this in perspective. Fifteen years ago the typical civilian. On the road may 123 miles per gallon up. Today. The typical entry level crossover suvs. And gets 26 miles now so. Yeah the prices going higher or incrementally getting more mileage. So we in theory should be spending less on our energy bill because of the increased. Productivity why would Canada not jump into this agreement because it's good for them as well. If the higher wages in Mexico. Means that the jobs and martial law are more secure. Correct the answer is there's a number of issues where there's disagreement and I just think this comes down to an ego thing yeah. Where. We say here's what we think and they say here's what we think. And and there's there's disagreement and I don't think the Canadians like the idea being told. You need to come on board by Friday or we're going this alone. There's a lot of ego going here and let's face it Justin Trudeau and Donald Trump are not exactly best bodies. In. Honestly very different people and I wonder if there's you know Trudeau who thinking that it's actually help the popularity. Picking a fight with. A president perceive yeah rather unpopular especially north of the border not that it's the economy went on to Canada's economy has always lag that the United States. And traditionally has lagged that in in states. And you know people are sensitive that they want to work people are proud Canadians are just as proud as Americans. And they don't want to be sit there with 8% unemployment rate because prime prime minister can't get along with press and we know that. And the president knows and so you know his buddies but here's the difficulty. Is we already had a trade surplus with Canada brush. And he is so lately the so. There that's where the population saying hey we're already Connie and screwed by the states but what are the issues is. My wife's car was built in Canada and it's a Honda okay. She bought here in the United States. Wrapped Portugal and you. And I think that that's a source of of discontent with respect the United States. Being very concern only got to conversely John there's a lot of American stuff that shipped up to Canada you owe more that. And then the other way I agree logic tells you that this is a fight that we don't need to be fighting that were actually winning. But I think there's egos involved here. In I think there's a little it's fascinating to me if you told me two years ago that the US in Mexico would be here at enhancing yet. We got to deal no problem. That was the sort of a lack the frustration of the last thirty years now but Irish it would be with you about right if it was that he kicked it along with Kennedy you can't get along with a Golden Retriever. I mean it. The world is changed Jonathan we're we're worried about Canada and Mexico. Problem. Have you set the price action in Canada stocks are one stocks. Yeah what what he what's your take on this I I I I look at it easy to one of two things happening. It's the they're grossly overpriced. War. Canada he used because he's Canadian companies are reasonably Canada is becoming the epicenter. For marijuana marijuana. Work canvasses they preferred call is becoming legal. Recreational. Mid October across the country unlike in the unit's day I had any right to me so I'm wondering if the if this news. This because it's a lot like when you look at the money it's going up there yeah it's not. Dumb individual investor money it's large institutional investor. That doesn't mean sorry. Leslie dumb largest too well but it wouldn't they told you Nigel they don't as I look at them I look at the pricing. Two companies were artillery. And yeah the one that the boos company bought the you know you you look at it. In the pricing and I would agree exceed the pricing doesn't make sense and and I've looked at these stocks and listeners at texted me should I buy this unit by then analysts at night I don't understand it's I don't buy it. Just I look at the price cool cow will be first in and they have a huge advantage by being first in the thing I'll be real and I wanna warn you about though is full wo has killed more people. In all you do is avoid formal. You're gonna increase your lifetime results tremendously fear of missing out. Never again seizing that's a lot of witnesses open on its its beer companies doubled that there's there's milk there's very little bit bigger companies there's very little barrier to entry. And but once once it's legal in many states the United States is gonna pop Opel unit states outtakes once state like California is beginning camp. It in the week although the concept is is is a -- one but remember if when the model T came out I told that automobiles for the future I would have meal that we lost all your money if I said the Internet was a future point five years ago I wouldn't meal the concept and got killed on the investment he really careful because everybody's jumping in on this you know. In the early people are making big money no question about that icy stocks to. Just be careful though because these things will get over played and there's going to be lots of losers but does this isn't gonna lose to you when I make this stuff in our backyard dude there's this. Price action put any pressure on the federal government to legalize it. Because right now the the I'm looking at the money call him an ounce and myself. OK if I'm a congressman them on the senate on the president in the United States. 21 all this money can. Is really all that much money. Billions of dollar Pastor Wright you tuck and you know it in and and you're so you're using American money to fund candidates. In Canada which is then going to be manufactured grown in Canada and then shipped down to the United States. At what point though do individual entrepreneurs wrist rest and and start selling the stuff on the wrong to him and growing it on the wrong that's the probably have a pisses. I told the egregious concept is going to be huge but he let it gets do you think it becomes legal though here in the United States and federal level. I I think were within five to ten years have been happening that far out at the most let's put I state by 20/20 one. Tony Tony quick. Being a caller I think in next presidential election cycle I'm adding more liberal congress. A might possibly more liberal president you have really you have some social conservative obstacles to it but. The miners and those those people are dying but English literally are dying. Our attorney general and a lot of our congress now a lot of percent. Our president who got I can use our coverage on the power generation great big baby boomers in the great generation right we're we're we're. The past. The future that you when you look at polling numbers of young generation acts of generations the millennial my gosh. Overwhelming. They are saying we want legal. Cannibals federally. And I think it will happen and ironically before he was that long create. I would say even more I would say within the next five years but the bottom line is. As long as it's illegal. These companies going public right now as you said they have much more of an advantage they didn't want to legalize the cat's out of the barn and Andy making the stuff of our back. This account. This Mike Castle that's. The horse is out of the bet now you know I'm Jeff yeah. I'm just says I lost my cap a year ago in it just it's still some symptoms Roman culture is at times it really it is Thursday. But with but. What is. What is legal across the board. I just that you see no barrier to entry. You're gonna see local pot shops with people make is that the backyard and say hey I gotta I get my backyard at a great stuff look so with those says it's great it's a sign it just speaks it is an in as long as it's illegal ironically more money will flow of these legal companies again. Poll question today is should the United States government legalize candidates. Federally. That's a tough question I and I'll be cures right now it's early 80% of our listeners think they should I suspect that result changed dramatically. Over time you can participate in the poll by visiting our website financial exchange showed dot com. Where you can send us a text message text numbers 63566. So I've known Dunkin' Donuts amid a customer Dunkin' Donuts for years is a Dunkin' Donuts or zip Duncan what's going on. Well it is that's a good question it's still has officially Dunkin' Donuts. But they're dropping. The doughnuts from a number of stores starting in Quincy Massachusetts which are they actually started a company gray back went. Now the change is rolling out to thirty more storage in the Boston area and another twenty nationwide. I think they're just doing a slow roll out to change they said it's not a done deal but at the end of the day let's face it it's a copy shop that sells food. And it's kind of politically incorrect call yourself the donut company which why you have that house that went there because it is is to baton on the LP is there's so intolerance. But they also a lot of other food that some of which is allegedly healthy and they they're big businesses coffee so. At the end of the day they wanna it's themselves and competitors Starbucks all. And take on Starbucks donuts news so they wanna be cheaper version of of Starbucks. Better service instinct so one word name. Duncan BO now Madonna. Once at Starbucks. I don't know if they go what. When I when I went to Madrid last year I walked by Dunkin' Donuts and it was already termed dumped him. Interest that was a year ago autism I was in Europe obviously it's an outcome of the states finally makes sense. Alia is that you know it is. People don't like change. And you know again Duncan is a it Dunkin' Donuts is in New England chain. And we lose new englanders are very parochial and people like anything you shiver as someone mentioned to release that Duncan. What's being dunked. Is it like the sound of one hand dunking. Yeah like it's Dunkin donut right so there is a question and if there is the history they were mister donut remembered. Missed. Iron and a if this did it make you get ardently. So that they're doing probably history but bottom line is I think to a Avery. It weighed you politically correct the change the name of Duncan and ease into it. The IRS recently ruled that are made a ruling that allows for a one k.'s student loan benefits this is fascinated yeah. Very interest in your that the east there recently issued ruling. Affirmed that under certain circumstances. An employer can only be a monitor that 401K. Match. Two student loan repayments now instead of towards the 41 K. I find the sitters because I'd be great to have someone fully fund their 401K yeah. But it get that match be given to something that they can directly reduce their debt war. That's combustible fuels well it ID and Andy isn't what it does is. It it'd dresses. And the private sector which is the way you want these types of problems resolved rate it addresses the student loan issue yet the young person who is graduating. With an undergraduate degree. And you know it's not uncommon for that he would have 405060000. Dollar for the student loan rate especially their Stanley has no. They could go to state school. And still end up in state school and still land up. Ladies live 4050000 dollars that we'll talk more. About this and it's cost neutral to the employer doesn't cost him anymore that's were right about yeah yeah it's if it's a big benefit and we'll continue the conversation Dow's up 34 points. Time now for Wall Street watch a look at the market's performance so far today but I still Berrian jug right here on the financial exchange radio network. So John I'm told by 50 wait there I just pulled into it. Brand new Dunkin' Donuts in Worcester and it's called Duncan there we that's one of the twenty or thirty in the Greater Boston guys who have let's consider Greater Boston to a three rights note candidates question we do not need to incurred the dumbing down of Americans any more than we already have. Why it if you well but here's here's what I wanna asked to grocery. EV I I think it does make you it has an impact on your right so is alcohol. Well that was my question so should you also prohibit the use of alcohol it's it's that's didn't work out very well campuses so much safer than alcohol it's ridiculous. Well there's actually another finally regulators may be they write in about that they there's a number of people. Writing in in favor of legalizing candidates and I'm shocked by the poll results thus far Beatty that changed. But right now 76%. Of our audience. Thinks that the US government should legalize Canada's. Federal. Well I think you'll see them 6% of very Smart article critical is is it Smart logical to say that there's no real way that we can monitors this in terms of. Driving while under the influence of Merrill. Yeah I it I figure that out yeah that's pretty equal I figure they'll come under the you know the bucket of it being approved federally they would have that technology figured out. They are addicts technology now. The problems it's very expensive it's enormous his ex expensive and what's happened in places where it's been legalized is we've seen a massive increase in the number of accidents. Fatalities. People going to the emergency room because they're in wrecks so that's a serious issue I mean so. I get people think they can drive. While under the influence of marijuana and you cannot end on the polling shows that a certain number of people believe they're actually better drivers after smoking club they also think they're better lovers there at that everybody deaths everybody thinks are better driver that a year that your assists the DS that the chuck says all the time like 80% of people think they're better than half. Of the other driver decent it's no sense but most people think they're better drivers under the influence of marijuana which I find to be pretty shocking. Now revelation this small they got to come up with the technology via tiger. So Tucker you fly jetBlue your big jetBlue now have a I have no complaints are jetBlue I'm like you bow I'd love jetBlue to. If there start to charge for checked bag what they've always count figures are charging war via the sheriff and a little bit more. Although I never check back though so I don't care. And and they are ironically they were one of the last if not the last to come around and actually charge for acts. There's 25 dollars now about a thirty for the first forty for the second what I think this is all about them and it's a big deal because the number one flier out of Boston right now. I think what they're trying to do is I I have the premium credit card which is like 99 bucks a year and one of the benefits for that is you and up to three other people flying your itinerary can all check in a bag. The free. So what's gonna do it really make monies on the credit cards exactly subtle you know now it's 99 bucks a year. Just my wife and I and one round trip ticket that's eighty boxing's right there. Also it's been a force more people to upgrade to the next low level. Of cheap service they've like a real cheap fare in the one ball that like jetBlue plus or something. And it's gonna make that more attractive does includes a checked bag deals are really is kind of gimmicky thing. To get more people to get the credit card in upgrade to a little bit higher class of fear of 98. In and the the airlines have the stuff figured out. Yeah I require cars and I mean it's. They they got math majors that are working on algorithms they know there is to see me they're very clever in the way to crisis and remembered. Very not about twenty years ago everybody had those frequent flier cards well racked up you know it's and then at all and that we found out we couldn't check in any of them there'll yeah you never use them at it and like everybody drop the minute after the airlines went bankrupt there could be some of that. So now we have this like new revival or talk about you know meet the new boss same as the old boss people are all getting these might be trying to say we're down. He followed through and trap I think we're gonna go through the same thing we're find out that the end of the year now we can't Balkans flights and it's not that good deals so by derby where. And many of you listening to the show today are probably retire getting close to retirement age so he's taken time. All the time whether it's in the journal market wide achieve. You know edit I read editorials because I like to hear other investors perspectives. I saw one being MarketWatch by a two reefs Poletti. Suggesting that now. Would be the right time for apple to buy Tesla. And kick mosque out of the driver's seat. I read that and I agree it would be except for one major problem what is that the price of Tesla it's priced. War higher than any. USC by General Motors GA BB cheaper to that we wait you can buy Ford and General Motors is profitable. Exactly so I I understand the logic imagine but the price tag would be so high and apple. Has hired a column of former test workers one after Hamas calls that the Tesla graveyard when you go to work for apple will act graveyard. There are bigger and bigger. Could edit these big that Ted that that there are getting more faltered ever and we've mentioned before apple spends twelve billion dollars a year research and development. They are working on their own product now yes it would be obviously a lot quicker if they bought Tesla. But I bet there are a lot further down wind in this author knows or that we even now I'll my wager would be the majority the vast majority of tussle owners. Are already. Apple owners means it'll apple products prompt you right there is it's the it's he if you look at the apple consumer it tends to be the high end consumer it's more upscale and upscale and I I wonder. I don't know the EU you look at the problems. That Tesla is having. And they fall right in two apples sweet spot no doubt about supply chain management manufacturing. It only negotiating pricing. I mean these are things you know your your talk about apple which is a trillion dollar company vs Tesla which is allegedly. You know fifty billion dollar company but take away it. A idol. Act and there's a lot of people that think it's worth significantly less and I wonder does it take the stock to go to. Fifty dollars a share. Hundred dollars this year like how low can go before somebody buys out ten excellence and is if it'll turn profitable right by the end of this year. And I don't think they're going to tie everything I've read in terms and pay their bills the the need god employee problems. The C suite has been dumped and be people left the company leadership as the company. Note this company's surprise and a big issuers of debt coming due to a hundred million dollars this year and another 900 million early next year to hospital and the money when you. You continue to lose money and you're in your seat Il. Is to be kind acting irrational. It is at the same time they aren't there and developing a product people want to there's a waiting list for that I read that. Behind the scenes they actually had a schedule on a lot of what they promised with a model with the the the three you know. And that this is going to be a massive success so there's a lot of money coming in a lot of money going out in the Irish we're saying is. The reason why don't Pakistan does not want the price tag to your your point. Is way too high now media 15100 dollars this year it's a legitimate issue that ended have to get permission from warm up. Know what to buy I I don't think so because Warren Buffett is using passive owner. A whole cult act that he is a very small percent of the Baltimore Arnold's like five they've worn by 5% of of apple and he does little 95% you don't think he has some influence over I think doesn't look title yet as I don't think he would be. Interest in rejecting mr. you know. I really don't think it's Egypt's position will be if you think it's the right thing going ahead and also two point it's also drop in the book for company that's trillion dollar company. Issues number one the prices wait to buy in number two if you do that. You kicked us out of the driver's seat. When you get. Yet to you I think you week if you bought you say hey we want you to stay on your division. If he sees ST what jobs like person would he go for them. That's a good question in why would he do that if if me or anybody could take over apple. And that's it he thought he was gonna happen and a tree be a major players apple history. I think he'd be no more than the guy from beats audio and they bought the animal. And I don't think he was the day that I I I just thought it was an interest I had an urgent issues. I I've always thought that the two companies a lot of synergies and in in and I love decree I know people have fear misgivings about on mosque but. He in my mind is generational genes. I'm not a lot unlike Steve Jobs Uygur people who you know cities like Thomas Edison and beat these guys don't come along that often. So I don't think you want to can occur. I agree at the same time look at what's happening on the football field here that is an apple is hiring tons of house will workers there are literally suck the but greens out of Tesla as the need. And in the don't think they need to and shortly wanna be in the core business I think they wanna be in the range that the core business I think apple wants a supply to Tesla General Motors to go to they wanna be everybody's car they go to Google. Yet they want it. They might be more away well. Then attest. And they may be developing that an old tried development in house. And indeed something for everybody. With it's it's fascinating to speculate that. Football players make a lot of money one in particular is going to be 95 million dollars we'll talk about that when your turn and hand stocks saw but we thought yes. Like Tony you know it's only written down frame Chesapeake Energy X. One of this at some point or to talk about football yes gruel. News financial news. Com hi everybody it's Berrian Todd with you here with a quick tip from the legal exchange showed docked common. Todd I wanted to talk to you about the five year waiting period for Medicaid eligibility. As it applies to the use of the medic and a light the state so let's say I Cree I give by house away. I give it to the kids. Does that five year clocks are ticking if I'd done elect the state yes so if you take your house and many people do this if you take in your house and transferred to the children. And reserves the right to live there you know does that create a five year Medicaid out absolutely it and that's the definition of elect's right giving your stuff away. Give it away but you you do reserve that right to live so that's at least something that you're keeping which which is certainly helpful to you must pay the property taxes and maintain the property. The property taxes and maintaining it is all done by the light tennis you know. But I I want to stay on the five year waiting period just for minute because so many people think that it doesn't apply either to the light as they arrangement like you mentioned Barry. And also too when they make you hear people I can give 141000 dollars a year away because I I can do that and not pay any gift taxes that's true. That's an IRS regulation. You'll pay any gift taxes but you will have a five year waiting period for Medicaid eligibility. So it does apply to almost all transfers and including. A life estate arrangement. So yes it does apply. Folks Cushing and all and is making a brand new guide available in very helpful for those of you were thinking about giving your house solely use like the state compares the advantages and disadvantages. I pokes its chuck and Mike from the financial exchange and we're talking today about how to invest in a rising interest rate environment specifically. With regards to say what kinds of sectors performed well. What kind of sector struggled when rates are going up Michael we talk about that is for everything mortgages. Credit cards. Yes they are technically paying out a little bit more on CDs and deposits as well but they usually more than make up for that on the on the charges at when we look on the downside because as much as there might be good news and some sectors there's always another area that ends of struggling what parts the economy what types of stocks might struggle. If rates go up well two big areas tend to be utilities and real estate on the real stateside it's pretty obvious if mortgage rates go up van people are going to be able to afford less real estates that makes sense utilities it's a little bit less obvious but effectively a lot of investors by utilities because they're seen as a replacement to CDs or bonds in some cases because their relatively safe investments when interest rates go up sometimes they sell those safe investments in favor of those CDs and bonds folks we've given you a couple of. You're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world stay. Informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chuck Exxon. You know a few months ago. We were justifiably. Concerned about eight global trade. He concerns are real meaning that we were slapping tariffs on. On China and Europe and Mexico and Canada. And make sure we're still in conflict with the rest of the world but the fact of the matter is. We had a surprising breakthrough drug trade yesterday with Mexico or country of Mexico. And that leads one to believe that there might be due to be had with your there might be another deal yet to be had with Canada. We'll talk about it during the course of the show today were asked to be talking about a footballer who's going to be making 95 million dollars. And then why in the heck would Toyota be investing in. Who burst driver Lewis car effort by everybody it's burying John Mooney with you here it's Tuesday morning and let's start off with the eight Kenny caught NAFTA anymore it's the US. Mexico agreement the agreement if it's a bilateral agreement that apparently is is but to be signed. Mean it will result in some changes in our relationship we have with Mexico. Is sort of a trilateral basis which includes Canada won a bilateral basis directly we have been in between the United States and Mexico. And it would make some changes at the margin that are a little bit more beneficial to the worker. And may make it a little bit less advantageous for. US production to be moved over to to Mexico and in many cases. Again at the margin it's progress it's a better deal we believe. Than the deal we have existing among the three of us now the ball is in candidates court. And we basically told them they have until Friday to get back to us. And that may have been a mistake they're not real happy did you do that publicly. Yeah they kind of I think it publicly use your view. You'll let our good friend Larry Kudlow come out and say yeah behind me is that it can. Think not just take them off. Yes it and an asset at Newbury appreciate very much. The voice of a Larry slowing us forever live forever I'd be curious to see you know what he has to thank but. You know no like I know what he has to say easy he knew he set out yesterday deep down yeah like without. I I don't say that but I've got a month speed down I just leave it at that bottom line is it's I feel better knowing Larry's part of this process satellite because he represented might win if making. He's a free trader and appreciates our doors but he also understands the president's perspective and in the date they do outside and I think we need to remind people. Is kind of like with oil and gasoline. Yes we're gonna bring jobs back the United States this action will bring jobs back to Ohio and Kansas and area that the midwest where Ian has been devastated or make it. Less attractive for the jobs already here to go sell in the future that's a big part of mr. it is it is but I I. Did they result the downside to this and I hope people understand we're going to be paid more for car. Kind of like the prime more. And you know that we mentioned the last it was that there's a lot of reasons why you will be paying more for cars anyway. You add this on to you know an extra fifty cents to a final part an extra dollar or ten dollar part. It does add up that's gonna mean you're paying more for cars. One interesting ultimate you're used cars worth more. Your huge cars waiting ever go out they never go up in value in the summer is here at the new model your right for ten weeks in a row the price of used cars have been increased skyrocketed to averaged 20000 dollars for use car is that while that's right. At the same time the average price for new car is 35000. So still is a good you well in the last. And people know that he checked the report since the GE O. Ejected seat yes and and acts that he can now check in see. What's the maintenance history you know might get it 200000 miles on Andy's 300000 miles as the law now now people buy a car. Thinking on what it to a house. So if you get a car for 13 off which essentially what's happening in the used car market by 35000 dollar course for 20000 dollars. And you just take off a couple of years of performance. You're still get the launch years that. At 13 off in the economics Nicholas has won lifting number I thought was as the in the Bob Watson is my favorite people when it comes to the industry and he said. The industry is really cheering on this suvs movement because he said the typically. A comparable sedan then to a small issue fevers of midsize sedan to a mid size issue vis. The the issue the only cost them 1000 dollars Warner may be charged 3000 to 4000. Dollars more shrimp it's. So it makes the change is really into the bottom line profitability for their expensive he go by hunt this year the year rap for new yeah. And what 3035000. And they only cost about a thousand dollars worth in the comparable civilian of that size so he does a lot of profit there. You know I when he reaches they are like this I always regret the fact that not a good if they mean. Great way to nickel it whether hockey or soccer. In this case football coach bill Beckham junior. Signs a record breaking 95 million dollar deal with the New York. Talker he makes this the I paying a receiver that kind of money I think just doesn't make 65 that's guaranteed. While yeah I mean that's best I ever called the last time you dollar contract that big for wide receiver actually paid off in the end. I know his enemies and talents on 25 years old and is a lot of dough to commit to one with the elbow down with injuries. Yeah he's coming off an injury last year and me it was really his fault agent Scott hit the wrong way but yet exactly and there if it's an injury pro sport though. When you why and why take that risk yet there's a lot of teams that couldn't afford to. The audience don't want to you patriots don't want it ever commit that money you look at the Oakland Raiders they've got a players that they. Just dull if he's probably the best defense player defensive player in the league and they don't want. Mac via via. Yeah I mean it's Smart don't overpay these guys like I wonder and talk or you're an expert on fantasy football. I wonder if the positions that report in Tennessee football are the positions that Bill Belichick doesn't give. Whatever very like running back in wide receiver those ones to get all publicity in and make all the stats and make the Tennessee people go crazy. And bill Belichick's like I'll pick one up the dollar store. Now I don't understand there's no blueprint that shows me if you pay a great wide receiver fortune or a great one back of fortune. That's gonna mean victories. Exactly like I said I I can't remember the last contract there were considerably for team but without that player getting cut down on the last year is contrary to some 65 milling guaranteed. But the marketing value you know OJ definitely I want you work yet public spotlight. Obviously he's a huge marketing yeah. You know player so that they got tackled from but still let's and not to mention he's count it. That case. Whole you know Korean seemed doubts on the field but these guys like they Celtic. It's been get ratings more than they win football games which I find really interesting now to business morning's first though not not not not real. Oh yes rarely it's a bit the giants which are yet to business but yet to win first ballot if you step on a car arsonist if you're Stephon curry in the NBA you wouldn't give LeBron James you win. If you polled well Beckham doesn't mean it than if it's a very different from Ghana the winning its first. Should the US government legalized candidates on a federal level why are we having that poll question there's a lot of money flowing in Canada. Buying these. Candidates companies and I said to myself she is that what we really want you do on all the marijuana capital going to Canada. Our poll question is easy to participate in news go to our website financial exchange showed dot com where he can text us with your thoughts on this topic. Our text number is 63566. But my first name at the beginning of the text that would be Barry should the US government legalize Candace. First hour he came in two thirds of our audience talker. Think that we should legalize campus in August 3 thinks the statements about the mine with. You know we're allies out of I've 6040 ish. And that's what I think nationally it's around 6040 debt CH forty ton of energy I think nationally 64%. Well I think that's what the cultural get a little older Americans it's still favor. It's still early but with you're young hip audience here that right to it seems to be right in line with the national average it's a hip or. Audience than you can occur and it's true that's true. What do you make of that Toyota's 500 dollar 500 million dollar investment in Denver had a 72 billion valuation. I think it's interesting that other companies are are getting into this driver was business they realize that it is right Hoover. Hoover Hoover just killed somebody and terrorism. Well that's that's the growing pains of of an industry that's. It's infantile stage there has a great future but as all lot of kinks to work out. Little integrates self driving technology into the to a yield us a year and a mini vans to start. For use in Hoover's network. I just think it's an investment in the future is understanding look all the honorable automotive companies understand it. There. Old paradigm is now different they used to sell a vehicle to an individual. For him or her to drive. Put himself or their family. Now what you're getting at with the shared economy you're getting people. Literally renting out their cars sharing their cars using an who broke that used to transport a lot of different people. So the the the automotive industries trying to get into the different ways in which. Societies can own your future. It's going to be very different it is it is it's we think of one car like his older though why the day movers. Got so many problems with their self driving car technology. Maybe maybe Toyota boasted done due diligence and they must know something I don't know. I think it's getting a foot in the door now no pun intended and it's that the Toyota Sienna minivan it's not exactly as bold big adventure. I think they wanna use got to work the kinks out get their foot in the door get involved in this and Siewert takes them. We build that semi autonomous is here we know it's getting more and more part of our driving experience. That. The next step though to fully autonomous. That is that's the 64000 dollar question I think it's a long way off. But I think increasingly autonomous vehicles is where we're headed. Up next we're going to be joined by Ethan wolf man for conversation about Wells Fargo did the company. Encouraged their advisors to use hi fi products that's our next topic on the financial exchange. This is an article written by Ethan wolfman from Yahoo! finance even thanks for joining us. Even cross selling by itself is a legitimate part of his business will's obviously pushed this too far explain exactly how. Well in this situation you know if you are a and by the with a three fiduciary responsibility you're both be working. For your clients were at their best interest and there's a lot of the financial product that that could be offered the I think they're appropriate. Have. Fixed income strategy at alternative. Option all the different things. But what would benefit the land covered here with that Wells Fargo had voted. First advisors. Percent of these high speed product and you know if that if it by the didn't have a certain number of clients who peace strategy where appropriate to four. There neighbor kind of a throw them out there. Kind of put them on various clients in the did put it if they didn't they're bound to cut. So if we looked at one individual case it might be difficult to make a case that all obviously this person. Did not have their best interest represented but when you look at a cross section of people. Is that where these trends of all these these guys were in the wrong product is that we're becomes pretty obvious. It did not think it if we. Had to know at what happened what happens if in Europe by that talk to them by. Well by. Who couldn't find any but he. In their book of business. That some of these products were appropriate or and that put him and that really got the mind you I sacrifices by. By competition I don't know. And maybe. Put someone in something that is. Right different and necessarily that will cost them or he is as. That or are or not and that and that's something I think had a lot of people really there. Oh harshest consumers react to this. When they're when they might giving eulogies I've an account at Bank of America over you know and some other company. Critically mill that. That there advisor has their best interest at heart and not that their personal. I mean it is the is that important question and something that everybody who takes to believe any financial but I should think about it. You have nothing to lose that the asking questions I think that's something that people often feel afraid to because. In financial services in the it. Industry is filled with complex jargon and complex everything. Totally okay to ask. How are you getting it that you benefit from one sort or another choice. There's been like that they've. We will not mean Dave if they like you there and trouble than it should not like you. And you know bringing those things out the open make a lot of sense and it somebody says. There if there's not that Cahill. And they say about. Didn't think it did you know cut I'll do my company cut but but here is why I think it is right and a lot of it by the U that it and it worked. Wells has made big changes as you know do you think those changes are sufficient. And I imagine your advice that you give is true whether dealing with wells or any other company correct. A I think in these these things apply across the industry at some of the stuff that we we've worked coupled with. Unique to well. And be very certain aspects of it but a lot of it is not well. A lot of the debt industrywide. So you have to tread carefully wherever you go. I think well. In a lot of the stuff that there were on the best. Are paid dot things that are currently being investigated. And so. They haven't been addressed that there early and and broad sweeping changes yet like maybe it to extract the stuffed with their retail bank a little bit counts that we heard about. To sum that up I think it is ongoing and you know we've a lot of questions still to be answered as you know their investigation. The match. And indeed I assume that the creating fake accounts they've put in the rear view mirror that not doing that anymore. No they're not there yet point eight days. And they threw away sales goals in that sense for their retail branches but I mean I think it's really important to remember that there's a similar. Ways bed till pressure. Cause that that crisis the and that app and this example and welshman. You know comes directly from that practice which is and the don't have a comment but really crossed the bank. And something and we heard was that restrict restricted to recount but at a Grossman and went a little last candle at when everything yet able. And you know as you as you point out this is an issue that people need to be aware of regardless of the institution they're dealing with. And bottom line is what wells did did was there is exaggerated version of an issue that. Consumers need to be aware of no matter where they're doing business. Right and I think that's I think that person sight of the case and but there's a lot. Uncertainty when you are involved. It in the all of these and Lotta people don't don't really know that gore. And how competition works and how. Really investment management work. And just I guess. The big the big takeaways at that act however is that its okay that they I don't know okay that question it's okay to be. Ignorant wanted to be educated. And that is probably the best defense. Because it you can't really opt out of that you know she investing is important for people to do to plan for their future you can't really up that it. Great point and there are no dumb questions. That's the important thing to remember regard you know it's not that go to finance. Would ever question you have is legitimate question if it's on answered your own mind Ethan wolfman from Yahoo! finance thank you very much that report on Wells Fargo. Thank you thanks. No I this is chuck and Mike from the financial exchange in. Wanted to talk a little bit about how to invest any rising interest rate environment the Federal Reserve has raised rates twice already this year. The most likely projection. Two more hikes over the remainder of the year and Mike. Let's talk first with bonds when we talk about bonds and conventionally US treasuries. Are they tend to move as rates go up well. They tend to be in adversely correlated the price an abundance embers are correlated to the interest rates prevailing interest rates that are out there in this generally make sense you know if if interest rates go up and suddenly you can go by that same bond that's paying higher rate of interest that the price of your bond is going to be less valuable this gets inflated the longer term that bonded so if you have a ten year bond. That price impact is going to be a lot more significant than a five year. So effectively that the part of your portfolio that you typically think to be safe money and most stable. You might have to make some adjustments in order to make sure that you know losing principled during this time if you have the intention of selling as rates are going up. That's absolutely correct and if you haven't made those adjustments already this year you've likely seen in impact to your bond portfolio. Specifically when retirement that you wanna take a look at what's called the duration of your bonds. Make sure that you know it's just at least in line with the overall marketplace and you understand the impact of rising interest rates on them. Don't predict but my first name Barry B a RRY at the beginning of your text message otherwise it won't go through. What do you make of this story about the federal government. Paying American farmers. Four point seven billion dollars. Well this came about because. A lot of the most ardent supporters of the president as fortunately stood to lose a lot in trade wars and a lot of them were agricultural products. And a lot of former saying it's okay you know willing to bite the bullet here to do we think is ultimately right. So adjuster was made to you know reimburse them through offset some of the losses. Problem is is a very small amount relative to does it make up for the difference or not even close. The national corn growers association a good example. The estimated at lower prices are wrote as a result of terrorist. Will cost them about six billion dollars this year in the direct payment program allocated 96 million. So it's literally pennies on the dollar so it's something. There's a recognition here that there will be suffering on their part if there there's already. And could be more. But you know its woes and that is a positive gesture from the perspective of farmers but the same time. It's woefully inadequate in terms of what's actually cost them when should you buy your Thanksgiving. Plane tickets. Google says it's right now. Yeah that you know the prices for. For times people really want to travel. The prices tend to not go down in value tendon knocked it rewards now if you wanted to go you know go Thanksgiving Day. Is that if you're talking about a time when everybody wants to trouble. Don't make the bet to go lower that probably racist and and they're already pretty high so yeah. It's going to be tough to travel this thing with the economy strong consumer confidence is strong people feel good and airlines have tried not to increase production capacity to an old way of conflict in which it. Which really hurts us it means fewer seats and the ones that hire crisis higher prices that's ultimately. Comes down yet. Apple's coming out with a new phones and next month next but this. Yet and they're gonna coming out of phones for no matter what you hear what you desire in terms of quality you know bells and whistles. Or sides this brings me back ironically the Steve Jobs who. When he introduced it created the iPhone he said we're never gonna do large screen and these guys are pressuring me to do at large screen but. People can get their phones if they want something bigger they can buy an iPad or they can buy a Mac yeah I'll take care of that weld as it's turned out Samsung came out the bigger phone and a whole lot of people liked it. Now Apple's like okay whatever. What people watch so much video yeah on their phones out yeah I think like I watch a fun doing a home improvement project and wanted to know how to do more ordering your electrical work well or whatever it is right. All watch a video in I don't go to my computer right crank up my phone right takes two seconds to get my computer but if I wanna open my PC. With five minutes exactly so it's become really a mobile device more than even calling a phone it's it's a mobile device that actually makes phone calls night and the emphasis is more on it being. Not a phone but a mobile device that's what it is Apple's computers three new iphones coming up next month according to Bloomberg. One will have the biggest display ever six and a half inches about fortunate that it's bigger than that is when right now. Apple also sell more affordable six point one inch phone so. They're getting into the even more affordable bigger tight phones. Something for everyone original they're getting competition in every in every respect from pretty good products the hardware. Is very good with pretty similar in LG's is real good Samsung's is great players is very good. It really comes down the software and they've created the ecosystem. That's made this a very sticky product for people who have the iPhone and I think that's one of things that appealed Warren Buffett disease on that. People who have iphones and the knots which they go out with a six and a half inch display is that just put another. Nail in the coffin of the iPad. Joseph here's the ironic thing is I intuitively you would think that I am in the iPad sales and last quarter they actually bump back opted yet and this finding that the iPad is a convenient device for people to have a home. That's supplements the iPhone does not compete with the iPhone eat eat did for a long time and I think it definitely. Eight into the growth of the you know. But now I have to happen really you know he's I just use my phone so would you like. But I find I thought where I'm at home watching TV yeah. I have my iPad I have an iPad downstairs and iPad upstairs and it's we're right do my web certain. Because I don't like the oil is of a PC you're like I don't either but for me you know that ten inch screen compared even the six and chip you prefer. I just like the UVs and having it. And I think a lot of people are now. Getting both an iPad and have an iPhone may be and they work they seeks a world together. They've really made it a great again part of that ecosystem. That Raj of their products. And for the first time in awhile they actually have a bump. Upward iPad people replacing them. You see this story about the balsam ski resort. There at a tough time in funding. This has been an issue. If New Hampshire won't guarantee. The funding. That's doesn't speak well of the prospects of that project. And you know there are a lot of people who like to make a special trip every four years to witness the first votes cast. In the United States presidential primary yeah. Which are there addicts build much. What I mean nobody they buy me they just can't seem to. If the weight lenders look at this they look at the deal and they say can and these guys pay the money back yeah. And right now they cannot blind date that that the fact that they can't really low line up financing in this type of economic environment. Speaks very ill of the project in bought into my opinion no less cotton the former head of American skiing companies had this dream. And this you know massive deal 170 million dollar project. And it's been you know dependent upon getting adequate financing and this is a major setback Monday as the area. Basically give up their their efforts to persuade state officials to guarantee its when he gave millions Alonso. Tough break. And like you say it's going to be a tough sell that to get this back off the ground and in and do it again since the story about teaching assistants at Brandeis giving union contract. Yeah they're gonna rip Ed and you know that was a thing they have it's actually the only the second in the country than to to have a collective bargaining agreement. Teach these group of teaching assistants at a private hiring in the institution in New England or the second of the country. Nice thing that was the beginning a Payer is a between. Sixteen and 56%. Photo makes much now they don't they hated figure coming off a pretty low base. Yeah they're coming off a low base but they're getting an education to let you get accepted in into TTT a position. Are you you're going for your Ph.D. in younger. In that being paid for currency yet you're living poor but. You're you're improving your education and they get the benefit of having the protection from a collective bargaining agreement which only one other institution has so. So how much time do we spend watching television every day if you're our age a lot. That the it really varies quite a bit depending on age and it's interesting how it increases. Higher and higher depending on your rage there are two factors here number one is how much time you have yourself. Now when John when you retired you have a lot more time so that's gonna be here expect people who are retired over age 65 to have a large number. What's more interesting note is that the eighteen to 34 category. Is only two hours and seventeen minutes today. Which is a third as much as people 65 and older. That number is Wear me down from a generation ago to what you that your. The phone. The streaming services the watching now on their screens at home Netflix Amazon prime video. You'd you'd think you're watching more TV or less TV's in ten years ago. I can my case it's probably pretty similar is that I'm much resolution does not a big increase those the big big drop off a watching the last are you watching us in and I find. The first occupy anything to watch right I know it's just enough iriki have Netflix and direct TV and HBO author and you. He's the same crap that I was watching 20 years ago I am more selective and I will say this the DVR. I think is probably kept me from completely turning it up and all put all the way and because you know on that. 200 channel menu there are some things to watch us now. But her and not necessarily on at the time I wanna watch it or in the channel while watching a baseball game it's also you know. The DVR is basically allowed me to watch more television. Without you know. Having to do an appointment would be either an 8 o'clock at night notices on particular channel but the bottom line here is that. People 65 and over a calculated as your wife is defined this way it's 13 sleep. 13 television. And 13 everything else flares sentinel for. You and says I just kill me now. Seven hours and 24 minutes of average a lot of time viewing for people could be bad for yet and I wonder how much of that is. Full of people over 65 having the TV on in the background. Company practices have you been voice gathered it's just on and not really watching India all back so. You know so I wonder they are actually what is it there watching seven hours and 24 minutes. Well television a day that's like most of their awake hours I talked to my folks though they live in a retirement community up in the Alitalia if yes than they say. There's a lot of how to use it. You know because as you get older and it hurts. Sometimes to walk rated yeah you know in it hurts to go for swing that hurts the play golf. And your recovery time takes longer knows that he would just say you've already slept nine so if you're not going to be active. Turn on the boob tube in Leo that's your kind of default behavior and a situation like that but the big concern among the networks use. The very dramatic decline in viewership. And you know this this category here 1834 that's one category now it's even more dramatic. For ages ten through eighteen. They are literally not watching television.
