This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chunks of you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chuck Exxon. Markets are rallying on what is it. Very quiet week for volume usually usually this week of trading was very quite we'll tell you why the market's rally will also address. Who the governor of Arizona is going to appoint to replace the deceased John McCain. And then we'll talk about an overheating economy hi everybody it's very truck with you here it's a Monday morning and rumors of a NAFTA deal have been swirling around since about 6 AM shocked. And as a consequence as a result. I've got the Dow futures up I got the Dow up over 200 points over 26000. And the nasdaq's at 8000. And when we seen it and stick in the house before NASA record aren't. First time that we've seen NASDAQ in that territory. And just about fifteen minutes ago. We got word from mom Mexican officials apparently saying that talks at the US have concluded and that a deal announcement is coming. So this was something that we hoped was going to be on the table last week and that we have you kind of wrapped up and Don and just delayed by couple days here. And it does appear that we are going to get an announcement. I would imagine if not today by the end of tomorrow with the very latest what about Canada. Nothing. So they can do a deal just with Mexico without his three country deal so all all three had to be done the same time so this is simply a bilateral deal with Mexico. The anticipation is that you are going to see this taken to Canada. In order to try to work this into a larger scale NAFTA agreement between. The three countries I don't know if the terms that are in here are necessarily palatable to Canada parent we also don't know exactly what's in here we have no problem there was an eight straight Mexican wages we have a couple things that we've kind of gathered the some things on auto manufacturing there's some things on wages. Also the US is push for a sunset clause has been kind of kicked out in Sydney and we're not can be doing that Thompson that we we have a sense of some of the pieces in here. But we we don't really have any details yet in by the way in order get this done you do have to end up having in new deal ratified by congress by. And yet this does this doesn't just happen you can't just have the president make his deal on his own I haven't seen anything as a relates to border security. And I have not seen anything there I would imagine it's probably not wrapped up in this separate deal it's it's probably a separate deals Mike. Us aren't as you know John McCain passed away over the weekend he American patriots served in congress ever on the senate for. Up 32 years. Yeah 32 years. At any rate he. He's still has a number of years remaining on his term and the governor of Arizona. He is the right to appoint a successor and that would be for two more years. Yes of the governor of Arizona will be appointing their successor. Indications are probably nothing happening this week as Senator McCain is not going to be laid to rest until this weekend I believe if and so next week it looks like he'll be either next week or sometime later in September. That we get some guidance on exactly who is going to be. Taking over the role as the senator here's one of the two senders rather from the state of Arizona long list. The long long list of applicants anyway to get a whole bunch of people who were potentially being considered here probably. You know when it's also and done probably close to ten that are actually under consideration. At this point including the governor himself he could appoint himself to this world right. Yeah he's. He's he may not win this ball and he's up for reelection and so there's speculation that the governor's names Doocy. Might. Just appoint himself that way. You know it's he gets the seat or at least a couple he potentially could not sure how well that necessarily plays for two years from now via but if it's something where he could appoint himself as the senator here given. Become the new competitive race that he is going through as the governor of Arizona right now what about Sidney McCain. Is why you think they appoint you would appoint her. I could see is a case where viewers in the hands of getting appointed here meets again I don't know enough about this. Joseph Arpaio Aaron and I I don't know that it's interesting to I don't know nothing of our you know it does the local politics in Arizona to be able to pick a winner yes we it's I don't think anybody. Even the people that live in Arizona. Don't really have a clue. As to lose because the list this'll young you have nine people that are vying for the job yeah it's it's hard to hard to determine who's gonna actually proceed. Dow up 215 points nice rally going on Wall Street on Monday and a weak truck it's mostly quiet this week this supposed to be. This is supposed to be the lowest volume trading week of the year. Yet usually a pretty quiet we just a lot of traders undertaking this weekend off it prior to low Labor Day. Nine and then things kind of heat up as we get back in the September will tell you if you filed the stay in main goal wasting this year. You kind screwed the pooch on that when it didn't work out very well for you none of those old outages have worked out lately and I hit this one if you sold at the beginning of may you sold out when the S&P was a 2650. It's 2891 right now see you mission almost 10% runup in the S&P. Over the course of the summer so what. We're all those market timers are you know all the guys who told us to sell in May go where they now. They've they've they they're waste it historically they have come back and I know I'm Ambac and they're not coming back they may never there's in our. I want to talk about. The economy in the strengthen the economy. And if you had visited the tape or if you did it to the lakes region of New Hampshire along the seacoast her along with Connecticut shore for that matter. You've noticed that a lot of restaurants are having difficulty hiring workers was not just restaurants. Landscaper also having tremendous challenges. Finding people to do the work that normally is done by these immigrants normally date they would use these H two B visa programs but congress. At a messed them up this year yen in. In what you're seeing here is you you've got two different visas that are really impromptu get did it in the H two B visas. Which is a major issue right now on by the way the H two B visa program just to tell you how quickly this expanded. If you go back and take a look in 1999. There rep 30000 of these visas that were used each year. You go back to 2017. So last year topped 83 thousand's almost tripling in a span. Of nineteen by an eighteen years in the reason why is that one of these places can't find people to work. To work these jobs who are from the US and a lot of cases this is different from H one B visa program which we've spoken about and we've spoken about the abuses of that program and how it's been used not in some cases to actually effectively offshoring and to have Americans trained offshoring of their own labor and but in this case. These visa programs they've had all kinds of problems this year and as a result we have businesses whether you're talking about landscaping businesses restaurants. When congress didn't let the ones that are back in elect say he had a Jamaican worker from last year to operate. And he did a good job and you said OK just wanna bring him back but not allowing it to apply for home movies and so the cup result it is. The the work you businesses being slowed down he beat. Landscaper specifically are turning down major projects my son works as a landscaper he said he turned down a lot of work this year. Because he didn't have the equipment and he couldn't find the workers. In I'll tell you and in in previous tight labor market congress and said it had made provision saying look we are going to exempt returning foreign workers. From counting towards the the total and effectively in a lot of cases doubled the amount of these H two B visas that would be issued. But that's not the case this year this year in fact. What's interesting Department of Homeland Security was given the authority to add an additional 69000. H two B visas to the program him the only released 151000. Music music couldn't clearance on the don't know. Don't know. Well at any rate it Tucker did you grow up and house when you yes did you just cut the grass and here it. Yeah I didn't. Really stark and progress tolls like. Fifteen years old somewhere in Arizona history is when I started thirteen. Indeed your dad cut it before you started cutting yes but what about your in your house talkers magazine in my ought to try to get that is. Landscaping. Is it. They do do people do that on their own anymore that you only do it all miles now you do you do Alia. I ripped down a section of our grass this year put in some bushes and some other flowers and stuff I do at all. Volume on the purchase the notes would buy you Tucker guy cut progress you do. Why use and price Brothers or just a authorities at your blade I thought everybody is saying he's racing now. I thought everybody had a landscaper is that when I drive around all season landscape trucks. There's all of these days ultimately. They're all over the place and getting your grass at once a week is an amendment before your fifty bucks right and people gladly pay back any size many people gladly get I was under charging back in the day now. Twelve bucks you know do you cut your own grass yes like my own route 66% of DC Euro longs that surprised. I knew exactly what Jim why you're surprised because I see so many lanes keeping. Trucks I used to cut excess 70% when I had kids at home we used to do it would be the Saturday morning project there. And it would take us to buy it help you get knocked out in an hour network if I was due to myself those four and an hour I'm about an hour and a half to do myself all players that. I'm impressed me it just did yesterday and he's very few people. In our aid where I live not in any of them now many many. Complaining pitched battle against crabgrass this year though we got to start desperate I I did I even put down all the pre emergent never edit edit edit all that stuff. And it takes a long time and I'm dealing with like some mutant crabgrass now tonight if generate easy to eat keeps common you takes years. I don't stand on the dome and I'm going to win this one it's it's it's a tough fight its its established his beachhead random now on the corner of my yard and I'm just on month fight back right. And we're here to talk about a brand new product available for landlords it's called Z deposit dot net Jake. What. Terry we created a security deposit product. To really help the problem a lot of play in order facing with security deposits which is. You know one it's time consuming to open the small internal security pop cumbersome. And yet to go into the branch gets signed paperwork and their small dollars and in the turn. And it's likely to complaints in Massachusetts really tough for landlords and security deposit accounts. You have to give them ten in certain forms when they open up the count and you have to pay interest in you and did you do all this canal through Z deposit all of that you can do Thursday deposit it literally takes about forty seconds opened up an account. We handled the automatic forms that are generated in the count number department's mission statement all that sent attended. And the interest dissent that tenant automatically every year. This sounds like something it's going to be very valuable to large landlords that might have 200 tenants and small landlords that might only have five tenths yeah absolutely with a large landlords. It's just a lot of hassle to managed so we make dad very efficient. For the small landlords a lot of them are afraid of nineteen complaints done correctly so some of them some of them don't even like taking security deposits were hopeful that this will help them do that. Folks if he'd like to learn more about C deposit go to their website Z deposit dot net. Or you can call and speak to somebody on disease deposit team it's 7816418691. The financial exchanges all over New England to go to financial exchange showed dot com and search for the station closest do you. This is the financial exchange radio network. We asked the question do you cut year old grass 339 and hang up right. Barack up my own grasp what the heck it was for crabgrass I've had no grasp at all. Unlike me bylaws is just terrible here. I'll tell you what all the listings have been seeing the out. Like 95% from all of cracker has some like geez yeah well but it's it's hard to get rid of you have to lose it it's not something where you're gonna get rid of one year yet to dedicate yourself and it's a five year plan. On that on the whole I haven't seen with the poll numbers let's take knows about ED has run a 7525. Right now. 75 cutting their program dipped 75% cut their grass and it was the last time he gets watched and a dvd. 2011. That a long time there's been a while adding you know we have a dvd player in the house. You probably go it's it's probably been uses like coasters something like I. There's still three million people who subscribe. To the Netflix dvd program did you guys have that when your kid I was sure. Left a lot and I didn't haven't actually no no I I still went to blockbuster at that point is we have one right around the corner from us. We see him out here in the office people ever Monday together rendering below their red China and India and a U wanna know something more shocking than this one. Guess how many people still use AOL for dial up Internet. I'm not talking how many people have an AOL email address is there's a lot of people with those two how many people who don't access the year's same percentage wise are a number of people coming into what is the number of people that access the Internet using ale while commence in nine million. Now. Two point one million there are two point one million people that are still on America Online what chapter 24 million people that don't have high speed Internet is 8%. Of the population. Of in the United States imagine what it is and other parts. And it's it's predominantly in rural areas you know just as it is the companies won't go into them. Because they can't make enough money off three subscribers to offset the cost of flannel cable. Rate very you know that's the problem that they handle was. What about the EC the dish that they'd like Hughes dish. Is that work I don't do anyone who has that talker this usenet stuff. I don't watch tuchman is satellite in high policy its satellite based high speed Internet so it's like hell I don't know anybody for Internet pretty much. I've friends in the Virgin Islands and use it and they say a if it works well but not all the time. It's expensive and it's not as fast oh I didn't know was expensive Aaliyah it's quite expensive in the limb used very limited. Interesting but it's it was like I looked into it and it was more expensive than buying it from is that right yeah yeah news. But as a relates to Netflix. The stuff three million people that are paying them about eight bucks a month. And it accounts for 53 million dollar in quarterly profits to Netflix that's a much money they make enough of the dvds. You wanna know what I'm curious about with with this. Is what the overlap is between AOL dial up users and users oh yeah dvds after Stein. I I I bet it's pretty strong desire part of the reason why people do this is they don't have high speed Internet. I would think so they the they acknowledge it but the other thing is if you of the Netflix. Dvd program you get better move. Yeah the the have a lot of films that are not available. On the net flicks yeah I mean it's still in the blockbuster formula. If you'll worry you know something that just comes out of theaters as readily available for dvd. Right or is it takes a little bit longer to get on the streaming platform. Pictured us. Art is becoming a casualty. Of the US China trade war are lot of Chinese are cannot be sold theirs is being turned down for being sold. In the United States because of the 25% terror. You know this is interesting I I want daddy and one hand lesson OK so IA I get why this is near potentially happening but I look at an essay. Well gee if you already own a piece of Chinese are in the US in the market for that becomes stronger because you're facing less competition so there's less supply in there should be more demand for what you have I saw her resell you would think that prices might actually go why did you would think you'd think that would be the case now we didn't I haven't seen any data on resale values of Chinese art it's already in the United States. But I I definitely understand okay you're you're you're facing pricing pressure on importing anything. Because of these potential tariffs that come into effect Chinese art and antiques. Were sold at auctions last year were seven point one billion dollars. That includes or is it would change that's a lot of money there's a lot of lot of money the that there is that is. And a lot of that trade in much of it gets sold to the United States. So yeah our 408 million dollars of their 67 point one. Comes from the United States yeah and and so this is it's going to be interesting to see if this next round of tariffs goes into effect you know that this is one of those things were. I didn't realize this and I wasn't thinking about this. If your art collector you're you're aware of another shortage has to do with epi pins you guys know anybody and it depends I do yeah. I don't it's a big you know anyone who has an epi pen the it's. They're perk just because a lot of kids are born. With really bad food allergies right yeah yeah that's the primary purpose of them. And doubt they've come out the the come to learn that the the two companies that make them primarily our mylan. And Pfizer. And they have been so. Whose real difficult time manufacturing them due to FDA. Yeah and and and Teva pharmaceuticals just was awarded the license to do the generic epi pen mail but they're not going to be able to get schooled up in time for the upcoming school year so it's something where you probably won't have this problem in the 20192020. School year yeah. But the fact that you're gonna have production coming on line six months from now. Doesn't do anything to alleviate the fact that you have a shortage of them today. And also keep in mind that. These are cheap we don't eat you look at these these okay how much could possibly cost. My owner members the company they got in trouble for raising the price to 608. Dollars for a set out to. And then and then they sit OG will do a generic one global sell for 300 while that's that's that's a real real bargain. There's a new one. Call early Cahill Leo and it's a maker of something called over the Q a UV IQ. It's an inject her. And it's has significantly. Increased manufacturing capacity. Did meet US demand that a lot of people don't like to use for two reasons one it may not be covered by their insurance is so he yup you see your. Submitting this for insurance. And also it's a different mechanism that their kids are used to yeah you remember your trying to teach seven year old caddie uses. Right exactly manage it you gotta have this is simplest possible because you know if they don't get this medication and have to have a net school with the nets in their backpack like I'm just glad my wife's daycare there third separated and her name but they're they're kids that have that be so you know someone with net it's I don't know them personally but yes. So they would they do they give the pens to the school yes I believe that's the case. Yet at younger ages typically I believe the teachers to have them and then usually once they get to a certain age kids scares them. Tonight when we come back we'll give me a market update the market's rallying the last time I looked and we're also going to be talking about. The athletic that's next on the financial state. Time now for Wall Street watch a look at the market's performance so far today thanks to Berrian jug right here on the financial exchange radio network. You're talking about your own grass excellence Evans says. Or my wife had a landscape for door house for the last three years who's so busy he decided our business was a waste of time it's on back tomorrow. I'll tell you what if you talk to guys that are in that industry. They don't really want to cut your grass they use that now as there's no money in that for them out you're right I think it makes some money but he the B really what they want to do the plantings they wanted to trimming that much. Ball clean up the coaching in the super clean ultimate heroes they want the fall cleanup and sprinkling him yet to and he may make a lot of money. Because those are also local comfort deal make 500 bucks or something like that I whereas say for Mon you're on for two hours and in 7500 bucks yeah do we got to drive you know we have all that drive time and everything between. It's that they want the big projects not small. It's well it doesn't matter to our audience who's the vast majority of our audience 79 point 49%. Cuts the rugrats good you know. Watching their pennies what you do is sell for. Now by enemy decides to asks well yet maintain your equipment that too and sharpen your blades and maintain your quoted market rally continues folks I get nice rally Bono cook and 212 points on the Dow. Over 26000. NASDAQ up seventy points and 8060 never seen 8000 before we blew through a house. Now you've got records on the NASDAQ and S&P I believe the Dow is either at or pretty close to a record as well. Biggest sectors that are in positive territory today materials financials and industrials all up north of 1% in the areas that are struggling utilities down 1% tells a hate investors are moving to risk on today. Consumer staples also down but everything else in positive territory today tech also up just shy of 1% for the debt. In the ten year at 284. So there you see a little bit dollar weakness the last couple weeks all's that's helped this market a little too he has read the athletic at all. Eighties here's a guy the used to work for the Boston Globe with the news Pluto mentions our options our yep he's with Jeff collect Jeff Powell. Is with the athletic as well he's formally of the Boston earlier they're picking up a ton of big name right so what are they doing it this this disease subscription web site they get paid five dollars a month for. Yeah pretty much as five or tomorrow. Yeah what what they did is they that they've pretty much tried to set up. A competitor to local newspapers and and the way it works annually actually if you pay it all wants to four dollars a month ago. If you just wanna go month to month it's ten dollars some some but pretty much what they've done is they've gone out. They've hired a tall and of big name reporters now in major markets and they're trying to make kind of a unified place that you can go. To get BO pay higher quality of sports news. And information and what's out there on. The precepts that pretty excited space to track you talk about competing with ESPN. I think the market is right used to be and be competed with you I I think that the quality of that's their programming on TV but their written work might be used the written work is easing consistent if somethings that are phenomenal I don't know either you've been reading Jack and acknowledge recent pieces and non mental illness in the NBA I heard about it they are phenomenal. They are outstanding but the problems he sees something like that like once every two months from ESP Maria. You know an athletic you know a letter. Yeah it's a website app whatever it snapped its website yet. And ye you have to pay for it and that's a tough sell. I'm not a subscriber. They have over a 100000 people that are in da five bucks a month it's it's a tough sell but I mean Ian. With what we're seeing with the lack of quality from online outlets where the papers I get tight the little I used to read flew to Los suns closed out. He used to write a Sunday talk yell really well done that and before him it was Paul department wrote a bowl hoopla and and so for. Thirty years I read those two guys now flute has gone from yeah I I think you're going to see a more robust market for people paying for content on the line go forward. Just as I think the quality is dropped to a point where people were saying. This just awful I need something to me so what do people do that drop there Boston Herald and Boston Herald of what you've seen that's the capital ready I had been declining you know you when you look at just about any print newspaper out there and it's been declining and I think the question is always been look how do you build a eight a product. That people actually want to pay for on line. And I think people are starting to figure that out in terms of the written word. The question is going to be. He and they do it profitably with the type of talent they're bringing in and I don't know I don't know Lee is yet another salaries and that these are guys like Pluto. It is an example just because we know the market he's probably working out of this house and games in doubt in his press pass an arm and just. That he silly you know he doesn't have the overhead associated with running a big media company. Which is good on one hand in that look you can get a little bit thinner. But there's something be said for having all those people in the same room together but it is able to source ideas out there is at odds line in the initial not a same you know think about in terms of our business. You you can run a lot of different businesses you completely remotely but there's something to be said for just having you know over here you've been an honor it's in all of a sudden it's oh gee that's interest that was and think about it that way and you get. You know an entirely new idea because of it's in CEO works out airlines are cashing in on loyalty credit cards I had no idea airlines. Neitzel much of their profit. From these I've got years have airline I don't you know W do I Avaya a jetBlue card and an American Airlines card and I use that thing all the time oh honey we just got twenty points. Yen and. And pretty much what the the way these credit cards work is they who lit the airlines pretty much book god revenue. From the consumer spending is going on on a regular basis. And so you end up with you know these banks and a buying a big chunks these miles from. These airlines and the airlines are depending on that as a source of revenue now because you know I wonder how that works at the credit card companies by that mine. So the way it works my jetBlue card when I sign up for I think they got 40000 bonus points for signing up. JetBlue issues that doesn't issue that card directly it's issued by Barkley scarred but into a sell the points licenses and so what what pretty much happens Barkley card goes and says look we won by 40000 points or jock. They spend that money which by the way that 40000 points if I were to go by that myself in be about a thousand dollars okay. And so. They the air I get a better price on it because they're buying billions of point exactly so sure they get some kind of discount they don't pay the same that you or I do but even if it's a 50% discount for every person that signs up jetBlue is getting 500 dollars in this point spend it comes true. It gets redeemed laid around but it's a way to drive revenue today and that makes a big difference for that does make you think it's very profitable business for the year folks it's hard to find a bank that has checking and savings accounts that can provide a decent return. And if you're in the market for one look no further than leader banks who are rewards account. Is now dealing with what Massachusetts and California and many other states are on the country have dealt with in the past and that is. Sexual abuse by Catholic priests and what you do about the people that were damaged 203040 years. And what Pennsylvania is doing I don't think goes far enough. What Pennsylvania's talk about doing is they have legislation in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. That would waved the statute of limitations for child sex abuse claims in opening a two year window for lawsuits that were previously time barred because they had you know been too long ago America. And why would you open just two year window. Well. You know we know that most victims of sexual abuse as children don't come forward until years later there barest the you know it. Why why would you just get rid of the statue limitations. This there's probably a lot of resistance on the part of the Catholic Church I think okay. And they're right because I do that there in their position on if you talk to people in the Catholic Church are saying okay you open up all these lawsuits against us. We're gonna have to close schools were gonna to close parishes are gonna have to cut back on social programs that we provide to the community of and that's the that's the the flip side to the argument. That. You have to at least acknowledge exists. Acknowledge exists I think it's pretty bad argument now and in the reason why so you have let's say that you were someone who was abused as a child right. So you've got all this pain and effort that thirty years and now someone's telling you oh we can't do this because now will have to suffer pain as a result didn't. Let's not really my problem is as as news if if I were someone who had suffered. Abuse so from my perspective. Look I I think just remember a big chunk of the population is Catholic and they're gonna be opposed to a lot many Catholics are going to be opposed to allowing us. And becomes a political surely everything else it can become a political issue but the fact is these things happened and you know that the problem is. We're with any of these situations where this occurs whether it's happening in Hollywood with all the stuff that we saw over the last year to whether it's happening. In the Catholic churches were seeing in this case in Pennsylvania whether it's happening. And Ohio State with the wrestling program there. The institutional always say oh you're you're gonna hurt us at the expense of the outright. The institution can't be made bigger than individuals because of the individuals are taken care of their is no institution in the long. The with what's curious about this is remember the Jerry sandusky case Penn State up now this would open it up if they change the law. And may be changing the law retroactively. It would allow them the that Jerry sandusky victims' rights which are numerous to apprehend a late seventy or eighty there may be you after Penn State too much greater degree. And and I I didn't even mention Penn State it's you know it's like that there's so much of this and and you look at it and it's just I I find that we spend so much time saying oh you know is this gonna hurt this institution that one. And I say. We'll editor if if if if they did this you have you have to force that you ought to get rid of it like you you have to deal with this. You can't just pretended didn't happen in just Seau would hurt too much to deal with the now. You're dealing with people whose lives to have been altered for twenty or thirty years because of what they went through. Interest did invest in investing Michael brush from marketwatch.com. As it applies to the use of genetic and a light the state so let's say I three I give by house away. I give it to the kids. Does that five year clock start ticking if I'd done elect the state yes so if you're taking your house and many people do this if you take in your house and transferred to the children. And reserves the right to live there you know does that create a five year Medicaid out absolutely it and that's the definition of elect's right giving your stuff away. Give it away but you you do reserve that right to live so that's at least something that you're keeping which which is certainly helpful to you must pay the property taxes and maintain the property. The property taxes and maintaining is all done by the life Tenet a cut you know. He's got to Texas money managers he's got a very good record he and work or. Accounting. And that's I think would give an advantage he's very good that it's at Oakland. And he's talking about instead of looking at the things stocks FaceBook Amazon apple Netflix and Google which have had been so popular over the last five years. He's talking about the big stocks and I'm curious what exactly that Akron is a meat it not activism that where exactly that term means. Right so serve but he's watching right the ams on so forth and and by the red suggested that those names back. They serve well I don't buy them here and so. But the Chinese equivalents which is what you're referring to armed. Have been really hurt by street were years words of China slowed down. Humans relations and are soaring today bird I think there's still buys so we're talking here about. About Baidu. Alibaba. IQ. And and those. Yeah exactly and it idiot not to wreck quote post but it's pretty close so so Baidu search app right so the it's got revenue growth. 3030. Cent per right. Barbara is the so on mine telling about. Michael in terms of potential upside here obviously the you know the of these emerging markets companies in general gotten crushed this year. Part of that is due to dollar's strength that we've seen in particular in the last few months. That tends to be cyclical though and would suggest even if you don't see in a trade deal resolved right away. You might still seemed new you know chance that you can make some money on the currency play here. Well I think that's really catching it because. The call. Our road war this one that we talked about west bullish call the bird markets and I agree acute that the dollars likely we can hear and I think that because you know it's generally. And I and I use that you know by your editor that I don't really get currencies but it really. EM is emerging markets are current proxy wars for the dollar way right so. The complaint yet our current. And I think the dollar two year tree work skiers go away and I think Kia. And I think by the way. You know. These eight starts or it is simple way to. Michael or any of these companies threatened by US businesses potentially getting into China in the future. Yeah that's a good question too because that's the other reason it down. In Google's. Trent in there and editor. You know I don't think so I think they're all week. I think Serbia. Although you know go. With it do but. You know they yeah and it it's a game because. China has demand and scuttle better compete at any rate and so. And that's. Good Michael thank you for the time we've got to get out but thanks again for joining us. I folks it's chuck and Mike from the financial exchange and we're talking today about how to invest in. What kind of sector struggled when rates are going up Michael we talk about the interest for everything mortgages credit cards. Yes they are technically paying out a little bit more on CDs and deposits as well but they usually more than making up for that on the charges and a go when we look on the downside because as much as there might be good news and some sectors there's always another area that ends of struggling what parts the economy and what types of stocks might struggle. If rates go up well two big areas tend to be utilities and real estate on the real stateside it's pretty obvious if mortgage rates go up van people are going to be able to afford less real estates that makes sense utilities it's a little bit less obvious but effectively a lot of investors by utilities because they're seen as a replacement to CDs or bonds in some cases because their relatively safe investments when interest rates go up sometimes they sell those safe investments in favor of those CDs and on folks we've given you a couple. So little when he wins on a little secret usually this week of trading on Wall Street. Is that quiet this week of the year I mean the volume levels are typically very very low. However today we have a nice little rally going on the Dow off a couple hundred points in the NASDAQ tech hits it even more in terms of percentage. And it's up 73 points eclipsing the 8000 point her so we'll explain you why we think the market is up will also provide you with the additional proof. That the economy is Dennis cook it along I everybody's buried chart with you here it's a Monday morning. And pretty nice rally to. Yeah markets are pretty excited about the potential for this deal between the US and Mexico the president is expected to speak on this deal that pretty shortly somewhere in the next five minutes Cecil B get some additional information on this. As we go here. One thing that's interesting is this these negotiations that are on going there with regards overhaul and some key provisions in NAFTA. Well NAFTA also involves Canada who hasn't really had a seat at the table here now and so. This is the one question that I do abs if you're looking for something overarching that you know actually you know is able to impact it you know creep in meaningfully impacting NAFTA. You do any buying from Canada and we have a surplus of Canada I mean it weakened. That that's the one country thought we had traits are. So it's I am appalled at the data right now either a surplus are two very close and it's it's Dickens and pretty close I can't remember the need to see exactly where it stands right now yes Betty eight point four billion dollar surplus. So they dump stuff down here we dump a few things up there but generally speaking it's pretty so the question is is there any holdup in getting something done with Canada. I don't necessarily know but remembered that should ban Canadian hockey players from playing Indian child will than they ban our altars in news well. Yeah you know and there's no better option than Maine lobster more I don't know. No error unknown social lobster and I don't believe in them. They do exactly even now now they're not real though not happening so I do wonder a little bit about you know whether there's any push back from Canada. It's not something that I think you know I wouldn't expect to be anything huge. I think candidates can hold this up and I think they're gonna demands around life. They could boost Trudeau is just. He's very popular there he is and there's a difference at a politics than what you see in the united here is obviously as you got to the US could be a potentially poppy all position very popular. So I I do look at that and part of that it does have me wondering OK if they do hold this up you know what. What ends up coming out of this it in I don't know what the answers they I think this experience than it did big deal the big part of this was next wasn't. Pulled his but you can't get NAFTA free ratified with Al. And yet Yeltsin and yet the congress to give congress in order rat but I don't think you know big east 50% right I don't think congress is going to have any trouble getting this ratified a year ago the question is lucky you need Canada's buying or to have something to present and you don't have that. Nine yet again. Hey I gonna provide you with evidence that the economy is strong try hiring a landscaper. If you if if you need work done around your house. Try finding some deal landscaping professional that come out and say yeah I weakened received your lawn or we can put in these bushes apparently. There's a real shortage of workers seat have these landscaping company struck that are set up to have fifteen men cruise and I say men because. You don't see many females on a landscaping out on night act as a matter fact. I I'm gonna go out on a limb I haven't seen. I've seen a couple here and there have it's it's few and far between now okay so. Is not a bad job pays you know in this area 1517. Bucks an hour. But these landscaping companies cannot find work. No they they can't in and largely it's because of changes to what's called H two B visa program which allows for seasonal workers. That's got to be hit in the restaurants in the resorts to those a lot of the restaurants resorts tend to be on the but you you're talking with the any kind of seasonal business whether you're talking golf courses ski resorts. Bound marinas and can anything that is heavily seasonal. You're seeing problems with hiring workers right now in and the root problem. The root cause of the problem. Is that American kids are working seasonal jobs and it's like 20% fewer kids were and mr. significantly. And so. If you don't have US kids who want to take seasonal jobs. Well the economy strong enough that you don't have US adults who can't take seasonal jobs. And so you end up needing to go win in fine workers. Who were all on the come over to the US the 36 months of the time. You know it's kind of funny is it's the affluent neighborhoods it would be getting hit the hardest oh yeah. Because most people cut programs most people rate their leaves most people pull their own weeds and from their head shouldn't I he leaves more than anything else you do do. Beverly Clark I do believe it is the one thing that I can't stand doing what's Harper's disposing of them. They and that's part that I hate you know it's it's all happening all funny games blown down around it and Burnham he can't burn you can't. Well. Depending on the town he can't yet division I see all the time some town it'll give you burn permit rate they'll say or he can only Bernie when it's raining I know you're saying that my count I know you're saying that but I see all the time right here. Do you cut your own grass that's our poll question today you can participate in the poll by visiting our website financial exchange showed dot com do you do year old landscape has effectively question. Eighty point 7% of our listeners cut their grass so it doesn't matter to them. Yeah it's. I I got my own. I Tony percent I don't it the first time this year took two weeks often in early August and I needed someone to come by and saw hired someone for the first time just to a couple weeks and how that worked out that it was that was mote you know again they were you know it it was it was good I still it's it's kind of lake. I would imagine the first time you leave your kid with a baby sitter yup that's how I felt leave my along with someone else in a year that attach I am I really am. Well. A egged it ton of text messages coming in I'm a female and I own a landscaping company. More work than I know what to do with in workers are very hard to find. Now they that's the that that's the story my son Reynolds landscaping business and he's got the same. Problem Barrett consider. Having a landscaper cup mile on as money well spent my neighbors are consumed by their lawn most of the weekend that was me I would spend. You know 4 hours on Saturday morning and then I'd be added again Sunday afternoon and stuff that I didn't depends a bigger lawn obviously like mine takes about half two hours I'm ninety minutes ninety minute including weed whacking. And blowing and you know the debris away I don't have much to bring married you have a pusher or Ryder pushed. I gonna push its about one and a quarter miles is what I end up walking. Over the course of my own model. Seven anyone writes economy is strong but we're doing contracts for less than we did fifteen years ago we dual commercial work where he's tuchman landscaping work. I know myself my yard myself. One half are some 62 years old it's good exercise but people take pride and it suit you know why did I did when a when race. The Ferrari GTO is the most valuable car ever auction had combined cart talker. In your pain forty million dollar bill I can't imagine when a car. About 25%. Above the previous record of 38 million dollars now so. You know you're talking about a a big chunk of change here. Apparently another GTO sold for seventy million dollars but it was a private transactions so we don't we can't confirm nor deny. We you know life is that on line people complain. The bloodstream national is what is his monitors its site I guess we'll do fifteen and at lowest worked as an issue if she can't counterfeit one Mississippi I don't realize is simply literally missed that little article can't counting to fifteen. 781 rates and get back that landscaping story. 781 writes yes landscaping we make more money in the winter off of plowing that we do. We do the grass cheap to get the contract. And it's cutthroat out here that the problem. There's a low barrier of entry to becoming a landscape. You don't have to go in and become the pass and electricians license. You can if you've got a few but nobody by a truck but it laws or for. Based business I find that if you do bad job you're not getting any any business in the future. Well there you can't distinguishing book is here's a thing. If you do when you do a bad job moan someone's on YouTube a bunch of shrubs or pay your round drive when you take out Stonewall you mow the age ranges we have your and I get many more business from them and they're telling everyone else they don't go to these bozos that they're not doing anything for. And so. There is a barrier to entry in that you've got to do a good job because again these are out what families that are typically hiring or landscaper. And if you're not doing a good job for them. They'll find someone else is there are plenty of people that do good jobs out there. On the on the poll question EV one point 3% of our listeners cut their grass so they are not be cold. To the landscape in a few can. If you take carrier fall cleanup and do your own fertilizing and you know at the end its fans I think largely on the size of the yard half right if you have. Under an acre lot it's yeah it's pretty easy to do it by your audio over an acre yet 234 acres. You're talking about a lot of work tell him that he gets to the point where you know if you get neo multiple lakers do it's not a full time job but it's at least a significant part time outs if you if you're doing four acres you're spend a lot of time down Walt Disney World workers landed deal for fifteen dollar. As a minimum minimum wage. Yeah a minimum wage right now what Disney is ten dollars an hour but this bump to fifteen an hour by 20/20 one so over the next three years it works out. To some pretty significant increase to about 15% years you can be seen increases that kind of surprising get somebody for even fifteen dollars and well I think I think a lot of these are you know entry level jobs that are not I think there's probably a lot of turnover in these jobs. You know it in it's a case where you have a lot of workers that come into them so these are careers these are jobs it kids take for the summer take layers and that's how are we years you know I I think these are you know whether you're talking I hear it's good training. I hear they like near their training program is good for kids that maybe not don't have great social skills her. I would imagine inner city kids at the they go down there and and do the work they I I heard good reports yet and it does this work as a Rossi and get thousand dollar bonuses that they were promised earlier this year. But it looks like he's deal is going to end up getting done here and now retroactively is also going to give an additional fifty cents an hour. To all of these workers all hours worked since September of seventeen of the last year they're going to get about an additional 3% raise on average. Actually how to structure the average price of getting a nice checked out not a bad deal now. Is it worth taking an aspirin a day used to be. You know twenty years ago my doctor says start taking an aspirin a day it sounds like you might not be doing much what might actually be doing some damn what's interesting is that as he waited to avoid a first heart attack or stroke than it doesn't seem to be doing anything positive in May in fact it's still unclear if that's causing any additional risk. But it's still is when you look at people who have already had a stroke or heart attack than it does produce positive outcomes in those patients so. It's not preventative if you have have problems but it might be. If you have had problems I haven't had my first heart attack yet so I shouldn't take. That's what I mean that's what I'm here I'm here and things like about Staten drugs I've been very resistant to taking Staten us. And and a friend who's he started taking on Lisa Berry got to get. Audience that didn't try them once a couple of years back I did I did and didn't like it right and didn't like I just I don't like taking drugs. I don't taking any Gary let's say why it I don't like taking anything. I don't like Ibuprofen. Not even idea for really via IRI slug Ibuprofen if I look if I had ahead. On high school and college those. Hounding bill rep for football practice this issue whether any time at practice or anything like that for a day or after boasts I would. It in high school my my senior high school at a couple of things that were bothered me throughout much of the soccer season. And so I was probably due in 34 idol before just about it processed hair examiner chart. Melamine you can tell it's not good form Wal-Mart washing hair there and there. Water from Wal-Mart is seeking unique approach to try to draw people away from Amazon I don't know how much success that they they make me. Everything I read is that Amazon's you know fifty cents on the bill every time every new order goes on the Internet. Is going through hymns and wal mart's trying to do is they're buying up a lot of these brands that specifically target. Millennium goals. Moose jaw. Tucker pronounces him Bruce show. Note this other one that hears it but no those bonobos all right I'll hurt you pretty I think it's one of boasts a Wal-Mart bought them to yes now. They they bought them as well what is most. First effort at that I athletics stores if stores yet it their pre orders I'm actually. They've I've seen their stuff around they're a lot of fun out the worst type stuff so backpacking climbing and things like that footwear I don't know if they're based out of moose jaw originally but. You know till the console so people are are wal mart's buying up these. Other domain names and their running them separate is no Wal-Mart brand in the program running in as a separate entity correct and so. It's it's something that's kind of interesting that they're doing here. I don't hate this as an overall strategy. It looking it bothers me that Wal-Mart is buying up some of these good companies you don't necessarily know what the ownership is gonna do with them. But it's a way that you can create something that's unique from Amazon. And differentiate yourself. Well they're trying to compete I wonder if he can buy a moose jaw products though on the Amazon web site through reseller. In the buyout agreement you could have just for resale reseller. And take a look right now I I I don't know the answer to that. They don't forget we have a trivia question. Right now it's you cannot. You can't I can't I don't see a single moose jaw product on amnesty for instance of that but if they have a brand that's really attractive. Then that might be a competitive edge but they've got to get a killer brand they do. In what year did John McCain win his first election to the US senate that's our trivia question you can text your answer to a 663566. When we come back we talked about Ilan mosque. No privacy chuck and Mike from the financial exchange in. Wanted to talk a little bit about how to invest any rising interest rate environment the Federal Reserve has raised rates twice already this year. The most likely projection. Two more hikes over the remainder of the year and Mike. Let's talk first with bonds when we talk about bonds and conventionally US treasuries. How they tend to move as rates go up well. They tend to be in adversely correlated the price abundance embers that correlated to the interest rates prevailing interest rates that are out there in this generally make sense you know if if interest rates go up and suddenly you can go by that same bond that's paying higher rate of interest that the price of your bond is going to be less valuable this gets inflated the longer term that bonded so if you have a ten year bond. That price impact is going to be a lot more significant than a five year. So effectively that the part of your portfolio that you typically think to be safe money and most stable. You might have to make some adjustments in order to make sure that you're not losing principled during this time if you have the intention of selling as rates are going up. That's absolutely correct and if you haven't made those adjustments already this year you've likely seen in impact to your bond portfolio. Specifically when retirement that you wanna take a look at what's called the duration of your bonds. And make sure that you know it's just at least in line with the overall marketplace and you understand the impact of rising interest rates on them. So over the weekend Elon Musk had a change of heart and decided they were not gonna take Tesla private they're gonna remain publicly traded company the stocks trading down. Eight dollars and 64 cents a share today on a day is so Tesla shares are down two point 6% in everything else is up. Not everything that a lot of Stoxx Europe. I think you on some deep crap all right I think you on is in deep crap in what's an armored merely talk about the regulators shareholders yup I'd I'd I think both I think. The other way indeed crap track is if you lived with regulators. Is if he tried to profit off the. Well I think. And note on troop okay. This is if he is. Stating information to the public regarding the overall financial state of his company that turns out to not be true yeah that is the very definition of financial fraud yup. It is the very definition of fraud and manipulation of soared even greater security. I wouldn't be surprised at Tesla dumps and to be honest and I don't know Alltel deal can keep him I mean this on top of all the other antics we've seen did you. Did you read this story from the journal regarding what happened over the last week. You know I've read I've look ever I've been following the story. The problem is he I'd look at you on mosque is being test without him. Eat it like I don't know. What with that company is without them I I don't know if I know he's a he's had problems and his staff does. You know the neat make all the internal people and our coming out and saying hey the guy's nuts and he can't do that and. And it will in in in this is why I amazed I'm coming around to the fact that they may need to get rid of Fenton you on mosque used to be a net positive for the company in terms of he can market the key he can be that face of the company in a positive way. I don't know how quickly he can turn this around from an image perspective if you can't sell investors on the future of that company got then what's he doing there. So I look at this I don't know. What you wants future with Tesla necessarily CA thinking he's do you think he's out by the end of the year we are indeed. I would imagine there are very very. Heated conversations going on between test those bored right now trying to figure out what the heck to do is not easy to get rid of because remember it in if you read a lot of shareholders you read this story in the Wall Street Journal I'm on the direct quote from okay. This is about what happened last week now. On Monday and Tuesday advisors from Goldman and so relate clout ahead on a deal that might work. By Wednesday evening they had a presentation from mr. mosque proposing is a roster of deep pocket investors including Volkswagen and silver lake itself. They're agreed to contribute as much as thirty billion dollars now. Quote they wore the kind of investors mr. mosque had in mind he was deeply suspicious of rival car companies believe and they want to piggyback on the Tesla halo. Bskyb had just a little bit then the following day. Thursday the board meeting was convened at the test a factor conference room. Mr. musk told some board members earlier in the day he had doubts about the proposal and the advisors of their company could be done and then left and then mr. misspoke and said based on the latest information I have now withdrawn the proposal. And so. What was this whole dog and pony show about over the last two or three weeks ago that it it suggest a couple things either. Elon Musk is tweeting based on how he's feeling on any given moment about what he should do with a 72 billion dollar company which doesn't Philly with a ton of confidence. Or beat. He's just making stuff pop him but he has so much stock in the company track. I mean it would you wanna do own 30% of something is worth nothing to him like I'd I'd. ICC Kiki go is a guy trap Escalante TV goes away trap caught note is the so terms like I think had very different problems not Travis clinic had absolutely no control first company in and they were you know. Unable to you know ensure the kind of equality both in terms of workplace as well as you know outer product that. They needed. This is a case where I just don't know if you on mosque is going to be able to regain investors' confidence at this point because. What you look at the situation and if you're an investor saying okay this is someone lime A give billions of dollars to Euro. Why. The deceit the SEC could come out to say hey he can't be an officer publicly traded company got its old. Very easily and that's it that's where I think your CD which could cause a matter I I really question was stockholders but here's the thing of stockholders get wind that the SEC is furious about doing that. The Chinese are struggling they'd Boston Globe wrote Chinese countries is only one Chinese countries and. That there is so I I think payment Chinese companies yeah I would imagine the headlines. What's what's interesting here is Chinese come companies are facing two headwinds in the same year number one is the potential overhang of tariffs. The second is you have a strengthening dollar as well if you're Chinese company that's doing business in the dollar is difficult to find dollars abroad and an end up with a shortage in some cases actually. Which has been somewhat of a problem for the so. It's you know they they've kind of got a couple different problems they've been trying to sort through here. Any represented Victor is the to the Chinese. We represented 20% of their sales. Right big chunk it's hard to find it like if you of one customer. That represents 20% of your sales kind of hardened by and a replacement that cost it it it's a big chunk here and so. You know you you you're looking at this if you're a company that is doing business in China. Trying to exports of the US. You know you you've got cancellations that you need to deal with so and save the they put it twenty filed with the president's talk about 25% tariff on everything Chinese right. Come into the country not everything but about 50%. But he didn't he threaten at one point 25% on the whole shebang. I don't know for seriously it and look at while. If he does that that doesn't mean the sales grew to zero. But it definitely has a negative impact on the Chinese GDP in the Chinese economy it doesn't in the reason why is it's not that companies would go and say okay we're gonna pay the tariff and continue importing everything. Both companies get worried about that are importing Chinese goods they say. Look we don't know this could get worse we don't know if this company's going to be negatively impacted might not be here and hear things go downhill. And so entire supply chain store reorient themselves. In its not that all of this business comes back to the US either it's some of it that's OK we've got. You know were were making tires in China not just as an example an elf any company news. Well gee we don't want to necessarily deal with the potential for additional tariffs come from there. So instead we're going to now open a factory in Thailand now and build you know in in manufacturer tires over there. May we bring some of that production back domestically this but it's it's not as simple as just saying an all or nothing it's. You have other countries that are competing for this business you have US businesses competing fort. There's a whole bunch of different you know top competitors out there trying to get all this business that's potentially up for ground. Sees an investor and trying to figure out whether or not we end up doing you deal with China as some kind of a trade deal is against China. Come to the table with something. And so far what I they're pretty good poker players the knee are they have not shown their hand at all and they had not shown weakness in anyway. Well they they've they've shown at some point in that I don't know if you just saw but there was an announcement that was when was this that this came out actually. President trying to present a Russian going to be sitting down for a little power while in the next couple weeks I believe it is. And so I think you're gonna continue to see deepening ties between those two countries. As a way to buffer against rushes out and buy anything from China Russia's economy is an even as big as it it's it's not about rush trying to buy things from China. About trying to get away from the US dollar. I'm telling you this is the most of him being like. Everything else is a shell game for this lake at the dollar is the only thing that matters here in the long. Just China does not want to be dependent CC this this is why China doesn't want to be dependent on the dollar now. And you think gluten would trust China over the US. Or the yard dollars via. Absolutely you I would Buick the levels of cooperation between those two countries absolutely in the arms reality is always a lot of trade you look at the arms that they sell to China well and you look at the the natural gas infrastructure that's being developed in Russia it's never happened about China in in in China has so much future demand for both natural gas and any kind of oil product. That I think you're gonna continue to see deepening ties with China doesn't want anything to do with the US dollar but I'm telling you like this is the core of the entire thing that's going on here. Up next for me talking about why the best time to buy a car is right around the corner and how you can take advantage of that's next on the financial exchange. That the new good looking ones coming up as the first one was ugly. The the the boxing and I thought was kind of gets them the big model refresh your win you get re all deals do you ever going to see you find out that while the Toyota Prius came out of the new car parade and all the sudden if you're trying to sell one of those old ones and if you have a lot of excess inventory. What you've got a discount the substantial yeah exactly so those two in those the ones those refreshes might happen every five years or so. It really get you know it's it's once every five to six years to get a chance to get you know when those types of how do you do that research like house let's say you are looking for. You know. A small assume the war because that's the bulls popular vehicles sold ranked as most are CRVs the Nissan rogue Toyota Ralph four all all of those are very popular C probably have to figured okay 11 of these four cars right now and I'd be happy with any one of these four car. And then find out which of those companies is going through model remake in other words. Which one of those companies has in nineteen coming out that's gonna walk a lot different than the current on us here at the current Toyota. Crazy rich Asians has a strong second weekend I guess this movie is turned out to be really popular for us mostly pretty and I never heard of it so you we found this article I've looked at betrayal looks pretty good at. This by the way it was not just a strong second weekend and this was a historically. Strong early in what way. Their sales from this Saturday. Are estimated to be point 2% above their opening Saturday tomorrow perhaps that never happens typically declines thirty to 40% you know why. There's a lot eighties the a lot of Asians are total watch this movie and Asians typically don't go to the movie. This is that this has the potential to be a massive. Massive winner for Warner Bros. already is okay now the production budget on this was 30000030. Made 83 million dollars while and think about it it's did you think it has legs as it's that type of movie that people to be going to end this thing for a week this movie it's really tough to predict how strong it's going to be in neo subsequent weekends just as we almost never see an increase from one weekend to the next. This has the potential though if its decline is anything even at this point if you if it's normal -- this thing's gonna come close 200 million dollars critics latitude 94% rotten tomatoes no kidding 94% and that's already heard scored again you might also this thing is barely even opened overseas to this point what do the audience. With the audience weren't there I don't know look it up. Raw tomatoes don't produce things are now in this movie hasn't even opened anywhere in AG. And imagine is an opening your. It is opened in Italy Iceland the Netherlands and that's about it in Australia so we think in 30400 million. By Tom Sullivan you might be close to half of half a billion something. Hey the markets are open big rally today based on the trade agreement being reached with Mexico the Dow is up 222. Points as we speak.
