This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chunks of you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and up today about an economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. At this time yesterday we received existing home sales numbers that were disappointing to say the least. We'll today we got new home sales and frankly there were just a little bit worse and on top of that. The Federal Reserve has signaled that they're going to continue to raise interest rates hi everybody it's Varian truck with you here it's a Thursday morning in. You know chuck I said to myself okay existing home sales idea that people don't wanna sell their house. You know I I my peers whenever I talk to the media say we were thinking about selling in downsizing but actually costs us more to sell our big house and. By small ones we just decided to stay in the big one yeah well help me what why would new home sales. Go down by one point 7%. All the Smart people everybody all the people in the know said no no they're gonna go up 2.2 percent. Because we have on affordable housing. It's just the price if it is so long it is supply and demand you have a limited number of buyers the prices that we have today. And in quite frankly the data that we have on housing as well as what we're getting from the Fed. This is what I was talking about a few months ago this is a recipe for stagflation heading in between nineteen. It like I know no one wants to hear that these things are really good right now actually you're looking ahead I'm looking twelve to fifteen months out and I think there are some ugly things on the horizon when it comes to overall growth. In inflation continuing because we're not doing anything to address those root causes if that's the case wire stocks selling off. The stocks usually chuck in historically. It you know would be the stocks will tell us what the economy is going to do six to twelve months out. They do but here's the thing is stocks are always right now you look at the run up to the financial crisis they really tell you that anything was wrong there the stock market didn't but it certainly not to the degree but you know what did tell you something was wrong the bond market told him in the bond market has been doing some funky things all year there's not a ton liquidity you've been seeing this increase in Libor that doesn't make a ton of sense. You've got a dollar shortage abroad. There's some funky things happening with the bond market right now including the fact. That you continue to see sources of foreign buying drying up for US treasuries and that's where all of this growth in the depths has been financed from him in if that doesn't happen. Didn't you end up with is US. Effectively US lenders have to buy more treasuries which means they can't lend to businesses which means slower economic growth that I am. I don't wanna sound alarm bells chicken little at the U need to watch this over the next fifteen months and I just think you have to pay attention this because I know things are good now. And I'm not saying they're not. There are some things happening that have me concerned going out twelve to fifteen months talk about the Fed yesterday does that yesterday afternoon. Basically. They said yesterday afternoon what you said yesterday morning. Yeah pretty much they said look the economy is really strong right now what's hot these needs to infect hotter than we expected to be embarrassed about tariffs we are going to be raising rates in September were nervous that tariffs are going to slow economic growth and so forth and if there you know we implemented for longer terms they probably will. But the Fed pretty much said look we are all systems go for a hike in September and pretty much what was priced in anyways we are a 96%. Chance of a hike before hand. We're still 96%. Chance and that would take the benchmark rate the Fed Funds rate. Up to a range between two and two in a quarter percent. Now we we had the Jackson Hole meeting and symposium call it yes he's Wyoming. All the best food all the best people rate what I'm told Yahoo! News you can get your invitation either how does he lost in the mail and they keep telling me they sent to what it must be just float out there somewhere so for anyone does get invited to it and it's got my name on it let me know because I've liked to go well. The day. Mr. Powell be speaking tomorrow morning 10 AM what will change between win yesterday we learned and Friday morning any nothing. It's what I've viewed the the Jackson Hole symposium as they call it that they have every year. I really think is an opportunity just for them to continue to message and and continue to get you know the message out there. Out of what we already know I don't think we we typically don't learn along. New information from it in most years. It's just you get a lot of you know congress together and they talk about. What they think the economy's going to do and and it's not just the Fed it's a year private economists international people will be flying in Korea mainly to big boom don't get the Fed the Fed you know posted but you get all kinds of private economists you get other central bankers that come in just to be able to talk to me of fed officials directly in zone forced. And mr. Powell's speech this year about the ways titled monetary policy in a changing economy and so. I don't understand how that's different from normal as the economy's always change during. I guess that the economy is changing more now then previews. It. You get some music for this next segment million prepare for that tonight. We're talking about Aretha Franklin I don't I ever return frankly I mean there are regulatory rich Tucker if you don't have people don't have music prepared and you have to sing the I will not be so well. Aretha Franklin. Died and she lives in Michigan. And state laws in Michigan because she did not have a will dictate that her assets be divided equally among her four children. I wonder. With this ends up costing that she is worth about eighty million dollars court if she is issues 76ers old. I'm thinking probate costs are going to be 5%. Of the eighty million. State taxes they would be a big big bill for federal state tax Tennessee 3035 million. In that ballpark in. And this is if everything goes smoothly I know when you've got more if the kids fight with each other when you've got an eighty million dollar state yeah people say oh gee I want an extra 1% well. Okay like now all of a sudden we've got you know some debate no all of that all the lawyers that they're saying. Gee isn't this too bad we'll just have to figure this out you know it's and they say to slowly as possible but. Well it's usually three to 5%. If there's no fight right if if they if the fourth biggest for boys The Who inherit. The eighty million dollars but it's not going to be eighty million dollars they're probably. I I'm gonna guess they end up walking away ten million each and I was gonna say laughs because Michigan's gotten a state tax you think like eight. By the time they get through it the lawyers are gonna take a huge truck she didn't have he will miss a second entertainer went to print style that a year two years. Teams exile. We'll prints that have well now Aretha Franklin dies and great history ago in April 21 when sixteen or adult. You're. Very good about your talk and see just a little bit of show for it and Killian you know thinks. Loved everything right did you off I didn't know that. I love their music superstar concert. Here's a stat that in I'm curious though our audience Wii's enormous. Only one. In war. American adults have a will. I find that ball. I was gonna say I find it mind blowing my or talking adults you know that includes you know me ten years ago I was technically an adult I don't think most of 22 year old needle will well and 13. Of parents with children under the age of eighteen at bats. That's that is shock it's it's amazing to its. It's I I look at it if you have children. You need it will immediately and more importantly guardianship also. 29% of people say they don't have any assets that they don't need it will. You know I guess if you're. If your state plane consists of tag sale then maybe you don't need it desperately. If you have real property. Leave your house if given money is money you could lead through a beneficiary designations right so let's say you lived in a rented apartment. In all you had it was a savings account. You would need to will because you can put beneficiaries on that savings account yet mr. you know like I look at people who might only you know nick and stuff like that money and a house. Sometimes those acts and turning a value we hear the stories words OG we had this chair and it turned out Abraham Lincoln set he was you know sign you know distant. In this week's story in Ers back where this woman. Her husband died but he had this collection of old car cars. It's worth like millions of it in its like Lambeau and there are certain categorized it leaked just hanging out. You know. For years the thirty years you see that's up more often than than people realize you know it's yeah it was you know we we had tea everyday yet it turns out you were using you know George Washington's tea kettle you know pierce here's another that 11. I don't know if you drink team but. Caught character. One out of four American adults have a well 80% of men die married. EV percent of women Dyson and find that fascinating. Really I. Figured it wouldn't of men go first in the women typically are going to die single what was the percentage of women who are single. He yeah and make sense does that man always guys first rate of 80% of the time now if 80% of literally 80% of the time native many diapers 80% of the time that in theory. I'm winners only to have dicing middle percent of the percent of the population is divorced person. Big too big there's a bigger chunk of the population that singles today than ever before. You would hear a guy maybe that's under dying rather be single and happy in the its commitment dying. Anyway our poll question today is do you are dying because they want to be sent. Step in Europe and do you have a will that's our poll questions so far I'm quite pleased to announce that 54 point 5% of our audience or listeners. And we're here to talk about a brand new product available for landlords it's called Z deposit dot net Jake. What. Barry we created a security deposit product to really help the problem a lot of play in order facing with security deposits which is. You know one it's time consuming to open the small internal security pop number sons. And yet to go into the branch gets signed paperwork and their small dollars and in the turn. In exactly the complaints in Massachusetts really tough for Lambert and security deposit accounts. You have to give them ten in certain forms when they open up the count and you have to pay interest in you and did you do all this canal through Z deposit all of that you can do actors he deposit it literally takes about forty seconds opened up an account. We handled the automatic forms that are generated in the count number department condition statement all that's at attendant. And the interest dissent lieutenant. Automatically every year. This sounds like something it's going to be very valuable to large landlords that might had 200 tenants and small landlords and might only have five tenths yeah absolutely with a large landlords. It's just a lot of hassle to managed so we make dad very efficient. For the small landlords a lot of them are afraid of nineteen complaints done correctly so some of them. And they'll be making that move 21%. 20/20 one so bad at or year or after years announce two more full season as this is almost over. Pretty much yet this season in in Minor League Baseball in effectively the end of August. So you're just about done there. They're going to walk through the next two seasons with kind of a zombie situation for their stadium where I don't expect them to draw Walt habit for the last couple years anyways after news of them trying to relocate. To Providence sitcom. And this deal is one where if you look at what the state of Massachusetts in the city of Worcester is giving him to what is currently the pos socks by the way they have. Apparently filed for copyright of the Wu Sox rays and throws mask camped a pos socks anymore and so saudis fired they've filed apparently be called the wool socks they don't which. It's called socks and so the city of Worcester is going to be issuing seventy million dollars in tax exempt bonds and thirty million in taxable bonds and buy it from that means they're borrowing a hundred million dollars this state of Massachusetts. Is pledging 32 and a half million dollars infrastructure. Including fifteen million for parking garage. So you look at this he's OK all told 230 million dollars that is being given not to this project here. Why. Why economic. Activity and he's going to be having apartment buildings hotels housing. It's a rejuvenation. Of the city and a lot of times this has been successful in the past. Might not that's not my problem date night my problem is that the city is on the hook. For any costs that are not covered by that new revenue. What if that new revenue doesn't mean what if there are years where that revenue visitors and most of the times the revenue doesn't come in and what about cost of. In this is why I generally don't like seeing style meals stadium deals using public money is because often times. This year's state doesn't end up making them money back and ended in also I look at this and I look at here's what I think really. Tenet gets under the skin for a lot of people so westar saying OK were gonna borrow hundred million dollars to do that is. You don't think the Worcester schools have problems right now rate you don't think the roads in Worcester have some problems right now you don't think that I'm part of this has to alleviate some of the road issues because in the end the you don't local area right you know so I look at this nice say what can we use that new hundred million dollars for that instead of you know building a new stadium now in that's the kind of stuff especially when you look at the state of you know finances for you whether you talk in the state of Massachusetts and you wished you sit there and say. This is not the stuff if you wanna be spending your money and they couldn't even support an American Hockey League team know. And today the HL team avenue east coast league team they don't have. American Hockey League is the next best thing to the NHL oh yeah good hockey. And I'm all for trying to you know if if the city in the state said look we wanna spend a 150 million dollars to revitalize western try to make it another center we're gonna improve. The airport in Worcester Mike what are we build a road that actually connects to it so people can use it the way that it should be used you know late things like that and make a ton. Since but. What do veggies the cost over to see that would really worries me about this that is. You've got this project I don't know if you can build a ball park for ninety million I'm not in that this miserly when he can. Boy you know what if it's what if it costs that would if by chance but we've all that projects right we've all done projects are in the house Eric come in on budget never ever. There we're talking about municipal works projects when they ever come in on budget that's that I I worry a member of the one in Hartford. And it was just a fiasco. And he turned out to be big money grab. If that's what I'm worried about happy for western and Hartford in the ball park in Hartford. News few years ago. But today I worry about this name you know like I I know westerners right now in the honeymoon period and they are all excited about it because it is it's exciting. You also have to get women's hockey team. Moving up the Boston leads are relocating Esther I I think that don't get me wrong I think this is a great thing for the city of Worcester that they're going. I don't love that they're spending this kind of money on some completeness. Yesterday you mentioned that you thought Michael cone might get a deal for a pardon from federal government from the president. But now New York State has subpoenaed Michael Coen as part of the probe into the trump foundation thickness. He said he was fishing furry. That he's our vision for no I think he's fishing for a plea deal with prosecutors. All okay that's I think he's fishing for a plea deal I think oddities fishing for. Part no no no no no I think he's fishing for we deal with prosecutors. And so New York State's after yet New York State is appearing on him. As part of a probe into the trump foundation. And the thought is hey if Cohen was. President Trump's personal lawyer over you know an extended period of time he probably has been involved and we know he's been involved. In some of the stuff there you figure on affirmation of kids. This truck children. If you wanna get leverage that's what. You do right is that it's just strategy. Time now for Wall Street watch a look at the market's performance so far today and I don't Berrian jug right here on the financial exchange radio network. Markets are positive thus far chuck I've got to Dallas twenty points and NASDAQ up 33. Crude oil's up they're down 26 cents a barrel gold and 1196 and out some thank you look at interest rates. Ten year treasury to 82 despite the fact we know interest rates are going up ten years remain low. And I think it's because again in in. Are you worried about the side and I'm worried about things a couple years out if you look at the flattening of this curve then there is a suggestion that hey you might have. Two more hikes this year now which I think you're gonna get. And then I am on team one hike next yeah I know everyone saying on the Fed's gonna like three times I think you we have one coming and I think it's because they can't hike beyond that. Break that down. Dynasty and they voted down 9978. Writes in his or at least our conversation regarding Worcester. To help poor Michael with some of his finances so far. 2402. People have needed donation to mr. cult so. Yeah I mean I was curious about this has raised 137000. Dollars is a 133004000. Marines he's big about a thousand an hour. So good that there are few things that I have questions about when it comes to us and number one. Who's the person you're just sitting around with extra cash and just says. Gee this is this is someone who I really think needs above all the other causes in the world that are owned and brown. As her a hug. Charles Carey. John an omen gate 25 dollars John even gave fifteen dollars a lot of anonymous Seattle these so. Elaine June's that's question one is just too says GM all the cause in the world this is the one I'm gonna contribute to lock him up he five dollars if they're tried to DNC. Well on the says so here's the other way and I'm looking at us and who wants to give money to Michael Cohen right now in Baghdad if if you're a supporter of president trump. You're sitting there saying. No not doing that bright ray anybody bake these if you all liberals in your opposing president trump and this guy that did all the stuff form for the last twenty years. In all of its. I'd have. The enemy of your enemy is my friend just makes your head to the enemy of the circles now. Saudi Arabia. Had not going to be doing their IPO why we eat you know I thought they would do the right appealed to get oil up to seventy bucks a barrel light I thought it was kind of like okay now. Now's the time to do via via another tough call the darn thing off. Lisa rumored to be calling Reuters according to Colin you know. And and and this gets it something else Levin talking about for the last year so what I feel like this candidate arms patting myself on the back. China has been launching this. One denominated futures contract over the last year it's pretty much ready for prime time they've been getting low volumes but the going to be rolling out some additional things in the next couple months in the big things if they can hole. Market share away from the dollar as the primary way of really the only way that you can trade oil on global markets now it has the potential to send the dollar lower. Which in turn since oil prices higher which means you get more for an IPO down the road and my guess is that Saudi Arabia's look at this and saying hey that. Non dollar denominated futures contract makes some sense might be away since China is the fastest growing oil market in the world and and China is going to be the biggest demand. Market for oil when it's all said and done I think Saudi Arabia is looking at the same pay. We need to get involved in that futures market and once we do we may be able to get a better price for oil neither a not need IPO or IPO and higher priced on the road with the as the Wall Street Journal reporting that China might buy a chunk of senate hearing. And in my guess is that the deal that China is going to want is the very one that the US negotiated in 1973 words look we will invest in by eight chunk of this oil company. In return UF two agreed to trade your oil on our exchange him. And has the potential to completely reshape geopolitics in the Middle East and in what way mailing what does it do in that make it more volatile that are are well it it takes what has been somewhat no federal reluctant ally or just you know. Kind of strange bedfellows in the US and Saudi Arabia who have been together for the last you know 45 years. And potentially reshuffle that the and reorient Saudi Arabia Saudi towards China and we beat we're becoming more energy independent all time. Well it's it it really is about who has a presence in the news release oil from Saudi Arabia why would I trust China more than the united stats that whether you trust funds about with a payback. A banner. But what do they say they're gonna pay you this Titus famous for what we'll do this and then they don't do if if if they're buying the oil you say look you pass on delivery you know it's you're not talking about intellectual property you're talking about. Oil either exists or doesn't I don't trust the saudis and a game like I'm trying to think who I would trust least. Saudi Arabia or try. I'd. Honesty in this up my argument is it doesn't doesn't matter if there's about a dollar you either get the oil on the money you don't you know it's like it's it's black and white there's not really middle ground on this one. Folks many of you listening today are probably retired or getting close to retirement age. It's a particular time to think about what happens if you or your spouse. Or download the guide right now on their website legal exchange show dot com. So early in the show I told you that 25%. Of Americans have a will. 25%. Here's a stat from our audience 62 point 07%. Of our audience has a will tuck would Emeka. It's actually less than what I expected from our audience ruined three honest. For us anymore. And we got some people you know in their twenties and thirties that don't have a world listen you know that must be it but in general at continues say we have best educated audience out there. This shows you. Majority of young workers have already tapped the retiree here's a stat this is really discouraging. 60%. Of young workers have already taken money from their retirement accounts this you know my generation. Boomers are not prepared for retirement you're gonna hear story after story about this and you're gonna. He chuck your. Targeting here. You're if you're parents. Talk about their friends who are destitute in their sixties and seventies unity here a lot of stories about. Old retired people that are destitute. I I think the retirement crisis based on this statistic. Might be getting worse. Not better. So I don't know because we weren't we don't have anything to compare this to from mere 2030 years ago and you know we have. From a few years ago we can compare it to him 60% of investors aged eighteen to what what's it's it's blocked out early fourth to 34. Say they've taken money from a retirement account. I'm one of them. Now I pulled money out in order to buy my first proper network talking about this last week chuck when your hair god dip I pulled money to buy my first property and so because of that I didn't have to pay a 10% penalty because you're allowed pull up to 101000 dollars out without paying that penalty if it's for first property there so I did pull that money ever put it back. Never put it back in. It worked out really well formed. But there are a lot of people when you look at the reasons why people report this money out. Not investing in a lot of cases. The reasons for early withdrawal for people under age 3423%. Were firm medical emergency. 22% to pay for education. 17% because I became unemployed Canadiens savings and 16% to make a large purchase my guess is. Home probably falls into a chunk of that. Not 13% simply spend on myself and family while that's dome 7% to spend on vacation that's even dumber. Let me devious that John. If you had 101000 dollars invested in the S&P 500 in January of 1980. OK so good at that you know thirty years ago January of EU had 101000 seat took that out in your world okay thirty years ago. That was 2111900. Dollars and twenty cent to. Yes and so people think these eager generation. Of them my generation. Every. Use is missing the point about retirements that money is secret when you put that money indeed the retirement account. Have to lock down eat it act I think what we're gonna learn I think your generation chuck if not you're certainly generation Z is Gannett. Figure out and say hey we just can't have all these eighty year old Livan in the streets eatery in impoverished we have to do something and forced them to. Seat for the retirement. And may be part of forcing them to say for the retirement is not allow them to invade the retirement accounts for home purchases. Worked so well one you do that yeah I mean for me personally like I've I've told you I had. The formatting here and ever separate personal IRA which I don't contribute time right. So if it's if I can take that out without penalty towards a first time home purchase I only get to do that wants one matches. Be utilized because that could grow to be 200000 dollars a year Le pen and all the hoax. I wanna get in the market but. Evidently lectures and I was I am hours and by the way did you just okay. And I get it out if I guess I have five colonial like there are less tonight I get an idea unused to being ignored. I I was looking at just how different countries handle retirement and not that this has anything to do with US retirement. You know what the department is in Singapore that handles retirement oriented questions. The ministry of manpower which I think is just the best name for any department that I have seen yet in. As it applies to use of the meta and a light the state so let's say I creek I give my house away. I give it to the kids. Does that five year clocks are ticking if I'd done elect the state yes so if you take your house and many people do this if you take in your house and transferred to the children. And reserve the right to live there you know does that create a five year Medicaid out absolutely it and that's the definition of elect's right giving your stuff away. Give it away by you you do reserve that right to live there are so that's at least something that you're keeping which which is certainly helpful to you post to pay the property taxes and maintain the property. The property taxes and maintaining is all done by the life Tenet but you know. But I I want to stay on the five year waiting period just from an a because so many people think that it doesn't apply either to the light as they arrangement like you mentioned very. And also too when they make you hear people I can give 141000 dollars a year away because I I can do that and not pay any gift taxes. That's true. That's an IRS regulation. You'll pay any gift taxes but you will have a five year waiting period. For Medicaid eligibility so it does apply to almost all transfer some including. A life for state arrangement. So yes it does apply. When I left my last job truck I didn't know that I had to opt to keep my 401K funds so I received a check closing out my fund development knowledge. Does this count as might withdrawal. One withdrawal it was so heavily taxed it was hardly worth anything that's on it never heard of that before it I have and if it on small account balance. Acting it's under 5000 dollars low interest of the company can just send it to you. Because it costs them money administrative fees in administration. And it does count in and here's the the challenge and here's. She probably got something in the mail but what should have happened was let's say it was 800 dollars that was in the world it. Yep we should have happened lose. She should've gotten a forum to roll that into either a new higher rate or an existing. Instead what happened to lose. She gets at 800 dollars. There's 10% penalty on it's it's not really 800 dollars at 720 dollars up in the in the 800 dollars is taxed both federally and state. That could be another 40%. So it it's hardly anything yeah her point. That's that's a problem 262 that's an example as to why you. Want to. You want to roll that over 978 is giving a warning to talker Tucker don't touch your retirement that's what. It would. Tucker what. Do not like working at the auto dealerships. And if you look at what are typically priorities to models flexibility free time the ability to travel and how working in a car dealer. Typically works rule weekends holidays all the times that you want to leeway in late nights to those guys work eight years know anybody sells cars Michael's yeah Michael knows he work hours that it. And a. There's one point one million people. Employed at 171000. New car car dealerships that does not include used car dealership so there's 171000. Think of here. You know new caught local new cargo employee one point one million people the end they just cannot people in which would I find. Curious about this is. They like working in an auto dealership is a lot better than say working at basics you make more money. Then you do working in retail but they still can't keep people. Yet our car salesman makes 44. Which is pretty good compared to most country return what better than Macy's emotionally you're telling you suddenly you're 3035. In some more in that ballpark so it certainly is better. Than what you get there and I think it's it's just the fact that it's your working weekends and holiday is a lot hours are long commission. It's. It's commission based job and a lot of those retail jobs ours well gathering that GM cars are obviously more so. Now fear if you were a lot of retail jobs historically been commission based too. I didn't know I I thought liked it when you went to buy a suit I thought Baghdad lose on sour. I'm not sure. I like I've been here since they go to like your local Men's Wearhouse Astor I think a Men's Wearhouse is commission based beer for life thanked him yet I don't know. And are just the way that the TV customers servers in the so attentive parent and makes you think that is commission based. I don't know you don't remember the other day that warehouse is salary plus commission. Plus some other area. The other day Tucker we'd speculated as to whether or not he could use a credit card and any candidate and medical campus store PA can't earn you cannot get something on FaceBook saying you cannot use to pay cash. Which seems. I can't understand why can't use credit cards for medical campus. It's still not legal federally you'd medical yeah no legal federally. Strained straight tasty it's it seems like year inviting it's like you're inviting crime or. They make you wonder staying on our area it's it's like you're inviting some of the coming in Dili where the suitcases of cash right you know. I folks it's chuck and Mike from the financial exchange and we're talking today about how to invest in a rising interest rate environment specifically. With regards to say what kinds of sectors performed well. What kind of sector struggled when rates are going up Michael we talk about the interest for everything mortgages credit cards. Yes they are technically paying out a little bit more on CDs and deposits as well but they usually more than making up for that on the on the charges and a when we look on the downside because as much as there might be good news and some sectors there's always another area that ends of struggling what parts the economy what types of stocks might struggle. If rates go up well two big areas tend to be utilities and realist on the real stateside it's pretty obvious if mortgage rates go lot ban people are going to be able to afford less real estates that makes sense utilities it's a little bit less obvious but effectively a lot of investors by utilities because they're seen as a replacement to CDs or bonds in some cases because their relatively safe investments when interest rates go up sometimes they sell those safe investments in favor of those CDs and bonds folks we've given you a couple of. There's not much traffic on the roads this week I don't know if you noticed as you've been driving around but the seems like the last. For Roth of summer. Is this week and everybody is anywhere of this normally see. We have a number of stories to cover today the market I was gonna give this whole market update that are listed basically the nasdaq's up seventeen points to Dallas down twelve. We have a lot to cover during this hour. We are gonna talk about with the new rifles are gonna look like they're supposed to be coming out next month view we don't have a date but we have pretty good information as to what they're going to look like. But before we do that. We have to address the death of Ripa Franklin should eat entertainer justice terrific entertainers and she died to like her better than dale. Poll. Finally there's an Intel reached the Franklin you. And pave the way for. This day now reached. You know I mean every two semi sectional. She should die. And she died without a week. And she was worth about eighty million dollars which is a lot of money if you had four kids. That aren't likely to be the beneficiaries of that eighty million dollars but boy oh boy is it going to be a mess. Getting that eating millions to her and what about the cost. On their suggest that these SP. Probate costs are going to be somewhere between three and 5% just because that's what they tend to run. Three to 5%. And that's assuming it is not a lot of fighting going on in the name which it their certainly could be situationally this you sit there and say gee even if someone is once 1% more at this a million bucks they notes it's not enough. Well at any rate. The so she died that will but here's a couple stats and I just fine line. Only four in US adults have wills. And just a third of parents with children under eighteen. Holes. 80% shocking of men. Died Mary 80% of women die single. It's just. I I'm a little bit surprised our poll question today has to do with having a will which is Connie your bare minimum legal document. Do you have with 63 point 6% of our listeners have wills 36% did not. Mike two coworkers here do not have wills and they think it's okay they ate anything that's OK here I'm 3030 year old Austin. Tucker is having a child in December does not have will. Does not have a guardianship and the island ID you know it's not my I'm knife up. I am not your dad dad and just tell me do this. But that let Campbell it was never do anything that boomer. Says I just. I bite my do you have William participate but it hosted by the tongue biting but it sounds painful it is for. Do you have a will and it's exchange or dot com or text that protects number 63566. That's tetris exciting news to. Steve Moore who's been a friend of mine for ten years. He's gonna become a regular guest on the show he's going to be joining us today. Steve and Larry. Worked on the tax reform package that passed and would. Grant talked to Steve today he'll be coming on here with us in just a few minutes. So we're excited to hear what the president has planned. For the next couple of years beacons. Steve would know Steve's in regular contact with president. Let's about a rifles yet three new iphones coming out we think next month is it doesn't. Every sept guaranteed next Otis I I will guarantee that they are coming out next on India but dates to not here so the date that I am hearing and this is based actually on niacin German suppliers. Is that pre orders will begin on Friday September 14. And the official launch will be on September 21 which means you probably having an event couple days before so. Probably an event on September 11 twelfth and winning an apple when we get. You can have three phones here as you mentioned is going to be two high end ones one that has a five point eight inch OLED screen. When that as a larger six point five inch OLED screen by comparison the iPhone exit via phone ten whatever you wanna call it. Has that five point eight inch screen so. What I'm gathering dead news the basically. The eight. Plus with the seven plus will we don't know what they're gonna be called in nobody it's going to be the same size screen. No no it's not so that that the new lower priced phone via is going to have a six point one inch screen compared to a four point seven and five point five that they currently what about the guy who wants a really big screen would have a six point five. And so that's that's the larger one in ten plus. Well we don't know what they're gonna call. You're not helping so lastly ask his al-Qaeda like so here's the problem is that apple went from eight to ten right now with today's don't have a nine hole which is what makes it also like we don't know if they're gonna call the nine the 1110 plus the tennis like. The day should be bigger screen there's a reason I didn't get the tent was it didn't have a good size screen. They don't have a bigger screen on this other things that we know that larger screen phone is likely GoDaddy 25%. Larger battery capacity that's good so that's something that is likely to be happening obviously things can cause so the largest one is probably gonna start somewhere in the 11100 dollar range. Units more than it paid from our first car. But and on books which are twice what I paid for and attacked three Volkswagen it's twice gonna pay for my first motorcycle. Again. Wife of prime motorcycles. I'd like most of whom groom you looks cool. Honest she she bearing the leather loaded into cheap mode of transportation kernel under went back and probably the long flown hockey here in effort thing now is that tonight we don't need to go that far today in just. There the full extent I think the biggest development is that there's going to be a newer cheaper phones and in that cheaper one is likely to be some more I mean nine. Maybe maybe I'm seeing more rumors in the 65700. Why they doing that. That's channel option because of I don't what they said that it I don't wanna spend a thousand dollars on the phone so from whatever the biggest difference between the 11100 all one and a quarter 65700. Telephone as. The all LED is on the more expensive one and then the LEDs on them cheaper for Italy's LC what's the difference. So the alleged greens OLED. They are they're able to be much thinner because they're not back they also have much truer color because they aren't backlit so you can get true blacks and things like that. Whereas LCD screens it's a backlight shining through all the pixels and so forth you don't get true color black you don't get to that the level of clarity that you do. With an alleged screen. Bullets greens also are bendable which tightened get some of the stuff around vessels and so forced. And whereas LCD screens break and I think you can actually save a hundred bucks if you opt. To not have facial recognition thank looks like they're all gonna happen are really Erica looks like they're all gonna happen. And what else do we know anything. I won't be buying one that's all we know what about backwards because I'll tell you apple lost customers and me because I was gonna get the ten. And I went to a store or in. So enjoy the week after it was released bear no I didn't I went to thank news. You got to remember December you have to either pre order weighed eight weeks yet that's generally how it is without items though it was November December went to local store exactly and well that's more than eight weeks it was like who's known at least in November. Oh that was so no the no ten last year was released Ali remember well at any rate they I didn't buy one Indians by the time I could get one. And I said to myself. More Agile life and I what I needed but we cannot wait until September 2 of AT death and a dip eyebrow cheaper and maybe like. You face Europe again I've Maine a gallon now you know like this I tactic they play games with their supplies is frank. Doesn't seem like that. It has a kind of manipulate that truck in what way. While they all of this false demand meaning the the only thing false about it at all you go. Now the the only ones that make profits in the Smartphone category. Nobody it's still I don't hold out don't you think they could deliver these phones if they really want Justice Department millions of the what other product has this kind of demand its launch every year and that there isn't one in the apple geeks right there's a lot of people always by the news the greatest every year every. I thousands of dollars lost not a bad strategy because when you sell your role when you get a lot of money for. If you sell one year old iPhone gift yet to be part of apple care program Margaret is straight Beers there at my daughter just doing something where she gets the latest and greatest ever the every generation. A give me an example just of how crazy this is. The name apple by the way it was used in this just 12012 have six year old data. Was used. Six times by people just in 2012 loans nearly six people who liked apple so much that they named their kid after them better. So there's that. It's it's goofy just put it out there I wanna mention in remind you Steve Moore. Who use. He works at The Heritage Foundation. Beast tight with the president he's tight with Larry Kudlow he is gonna join us in the next segment to talk about the American economy. But asking some questions as it relates to trade. By the way Phil Mickelson had one of the best. When he the first time when the masters he showed up to a pick with you can drive through at Denny's or something the next day was still wearing his green jacket from the day before I think that that some uses it just worked really a weak today much downward I would imagine he slept in it for a long time. You know. I won Stanley Cup I'd I'd I'd sleep. Now we knew I would drinking a beer out of it absolutely every day. Coffee output dipped in the top but he fought Dolan I pretty much optimal in the top in turn into a big chip and it I have some advice. No I this is chuck and Mike from the financial exchange in. One of talked a little bit about how to invest any rising interest rate environment the Federal Reserve has raised rates twice already this year. The most likely projection. Two more hikes over the remainder of the year and Mike. Let's talk first with bonds when we talk about bonds and conventionally US treasuries. They tend to move as rates go up well. They tend to be in adversely correlated the price an abundance embers that correlated to the interest rates prevailing interest rates that are out there in this generally make sense you know if if interest rates go up and suddenly you can go by that same bond that's paying higher rate of interest that the price of your bond is going to be less valuable this gets inflated the longer term that bond days of you have a ten year bond. That price impact is going to be a lot more significant than a five year. So effectively that the part of your portfolio that you typically think to be safe money and most stable. You might have to make some adjustments in order to make sure you're not losing principled during this time if you have the intention of selling as rates are going up. That's absolutely correct and if you haven't made those adjustments already this year you've likely seen in impact to your bond portfolio specifically when retirement that you wanna take a look at what's called the duration of your bonds. And make sure that you know it's just at least in line with the overall marketplace and you understand the impact of rising interest rates on them. We're joined now by Steve Moore and I you know Steve's with The Heritage Foundation what you may not know is that he worked on the tax reform package. With Larry Kudlow I had the chance to meet with Steve couple weeks ago in Lexington Massachusetts and he's good enough to join us on the show today. Good morning Steve welcome. So tax reform Steve didn't worse now for eight months how's it going rate which we president's perspective on. Well I saw the president had about a month or so ago and we are talking about that sent. And I said that Mr. President isn't working better than we thought it would when that Larry Kaplow and I am. Couple others helped out but this plan together for the president it's. In other elected we are an American economy that's firing on all cylinders right now it's just as strong as it's 120 years. We have six and a half million more job openings today that we view. As people felt calm and that's they announce that means we approached surplus of Gaza and a surplus workers. You know biggest construction boom probably in the history of this country is going out I was just out and bought stand that I want to. Quote I land and I want you I am main and that I was out on the West Coast and everywhere I go from. The Portland Oregon or Portland Maine are you see is that is in building going around cranes. All over the place Enceladus there's this is an economy that's right while I think that it was in no small part because of that. Is that there's been that tax bill that that that allow our businesses to expand out. One businesses are doing that he you know a lot of criticism has been leveled saying while they just can use the money if her. You know buying back shares in fact we're seeing an uptick in capital expenditures. Yet that's for sure you know the capital expenditure numbers are really important and we're seeing a lot of capital floating the United States and we're seeing a lot of up. You know it's you know this construction boom that was talking about that's capital investment that's infrastructure. It's private infrastructure which is what we need we need works. Buildings and we need more factories and Blair house is that we need more. Our office buildings and all that is being constructed all over the country image are deprived places where the bloom Albert yet. Right right what's next Steve what is the president want to work on in terms of the economy as a next step the easy wanna make the personal exemptions permanent as you wanna take another whacking corporate rate where do you see him going and going forward. Well we only have to make the tax cuts permanent I mean it's been our resounding success so you wanna get it permanently placed in the law. Some of these you know tax reductions. Expire after the year 2000. Point 42020. But it's not just actors now we need to you know promote American energy we need to build out our energy infrastructure in this country we need more pipelines we need LNG terminals we need. We need to calm Everett batteries in this country because America is becoming. The number one energy powerhouse in the world. We need you you know look at some of the other areas outcome we get more workers into at that. Workforce you know let them earlier we've got six and a half million more. Workers. You know job openings we have workers and so we have to find ways to increase the labor force participation rate. Other Americans over the age of eighteen. And that's been a problem because we've seen a decline overpaid especially during the Obama yourself. I like the idea of work for a while our requirements that you're gonna get a welfare about it you're able bodied you're gonna have to work to get about. Those kinds of things I think all of that you know increase economic growth rate for our country. Since I saw you a couple of weeks ago we've seen some progress being made as a relates to trade Europe has come to the table. It looks up NAFTA is going to be taking care of what where are we with China have you ever use like I I I hear good things about China and then I'll read something else that'll tell me should be nervous about it. So that's a good question I mean purse well now there's not quite taking care of I think we're gonna get a deal with. Mexico and the next you know number weeks but I think I think. That still a bit of a problem. But the biggest problem obviously China and we got you know we've imposed large or some China as a punitive. That's sure to get them to be eight pit stop stealing our intellectual property and stop black in there markets from our American. You know businesses and I think in the end of the day China is like to make some real concessions or China's economy and clobbered by these. By these terror Serbian UC. The Chinese stock market is down 20%. Staying they're they're called racist and kind of out there but a lot of disinvestment our China they don't quite how to deal with Donald Trump. And I don't out to happen in the next week or next month or by the end of the year but I do believe. Sometime in the next six sponsors so we're gonna see it's radio China and it really levels the playing field and stops the abuses that are happening impatient. The president doesn't sound terribly optimistic with the public comments regarding China. Well you know it depends on what day yet asked in his state swings back and forth like potential I but I think you know let truckers. Should consult our China is reacting like petulant child that they're kind of trying to retaliate with their own terrorist but the problem as this is a trade war that China can't outlet. Right China can't win that's because. They they depend now American's consumer markets have broader economy and I don't believe that they're gonna have access to America and America's. Markets unless they change their ways and and so they have a very tough. A lot but I think in the end of the day you're already seeing that that tightening of the screws really hurt the Chinese economy and I ticket. I'm I'm confident that trump has been a Linear. And the other thing I'm totally capital about does that Jack trumpet I can about out amid China's and other backed down and we are gonna have. You know spirit punitive tariffs on China it's in Europe American economy bad or the Chinese economy had a lot that'll calm but. I've been around trump for two years now this is not a man who retreat so. Right it is and how. Does not why why don't the Chinese recognize that we are their best customer we pay them top dollar we pay them on time what's weird. Like you just. China China has been able to get away with these abuses for thirty church right I mean. Bush never did anything about it. Clinton ever did anything about Obama never did anything about it you know we. Pot that China would and in the and you know start to be ape like. You know a first world country but they're not you know they continued. There are a couple of stick there imperialistic. Day a cheap base steal late. It's based steel according to latest straight report 300 billion dollars a year per hour out technologies. Are. Computer software are drugs and vaccines are. Patents or copyrights. They just like when that's up gets over to that China the first thing they do is figure out how we did that and make copycat it without pain that's the money. That they OS that bet that those are abuses they cannot continue community and help would basically sat insert the strait where district court was started twenty years ago by Peja and. Right right. Well Steve thanks very much for joining us in a and we're looking forward to having used a regular contributor to the show thank you very much. Much. Steve Moore Steve Moore from The Heritage Foundation joining us today and he's gonna come on really we haven't booked every Thursday testers Salem fifteenth very good very good bash. Belies a busy guy he's a busy guy you know the the the whole intellectual property discussion. It reminds me of Japan Japan used to do the same thing needs by AmeriCares Gloria they take it over they stopped that they VTV. After awhile they they learned they can't do that. Well part of this was negotiations between the Reagan administration in Japan back in the eighties that in fact brought a lot of that production into the United States if you look at where Toyota manufacture a lot of their vehicles now to Kentucky and places like that the reason why is because of negotiation that went on between the Reagan administration and the Japanese. During the 1980s and. Takes a long time does it does. Hate coming up where it talked to you about rising interest rates now I. You know see if if you don't think rates are gone up life to do's read the paper. I mean me in and read Federal Reserve notes and and and take a look at what's going on in the general forecast is inning get two more rate hikes this year. And probably two or three next year in 2019 what is the impact of rising interest rates on your investments we'll talk about that next on the financial exchange. Was nineteen point 651. Years as of August 17. Track. In other words if interest rates would go up. Just fourteen point six basis points which is not very much. On the thirty year bond the resulting two point 875%. Price would decline. Price decline would offset the bonds coupon over one year period time. Long way of saying when rates go up bond prices go down here's how it works for bond like this so let's say that you have a thirty year bond and I'm there around the interest up to 3% to okay the mask the thank you okay. So you buy a thirty year bond for a hundred dollars and they're gonna pay three dollars every year for the next thirty years and then they're gonna pay your hundred dollars back on the back Kenton. What that tells you is that you you're giving them a hundred dollars now and over the next thirty years they're going to give you back a 190 dollars. The reason why when rates go what bond prices go down let's do the math on a 4% bon let's say that rates global full percentage point okay. You go when you give the government a hundred dollars today. They're gonna give you four dollars a year for the next thirty years now so instead of getting a 190 dollars over the next thirty years or you're gonna get 220 dollars which means. That bond that was only yielding 3%. Is now giving you thirty dollars less than new bond so what happens the old bonds sells off so instead of having to give the government a hundred dollars in order to get. The money backe mightily have to give an eighty and and that's why you see that decline is OK and again now by this bond for less in order to equalize prices there so that's why. When rates go up.
