This is the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong in chunks of you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. The economy is ripping and we just got a jolts report that reinforces that statement. Truck drivers are being paid incorrectly. Why so well we'll talk about that and then finally real estate is hot. Yet zillow stock is plummeting today hi everybody Berry and John Maloney with you here it's a Tuesday. Kinda strange. Things move it around today. Let's start with that shall report and revised labor report because we did get the jobs report last. Yet job opening and labor to turnover survey which is one of our favorite numbers through. The jolt survey shows six point 662. Million job openings those job openings and you can have right now they're available and Iran field. And you know that that's very close to coincidentally the number of people who were literally don't have a job so we we now have enough jobs open. For every single person who doesn't have a job in the United States I would say that the fly the fines. Full employment by definition do you remember what that ratio was ten years ago. The ratio what I'd I don't remember no idea it was if you go back to 20082000. Him during the depths of the recession you know rate. For every job opening as John there are seven applicants. It was seven to one now it's 12 page if they Cambodia with that means he usually if you see somebody who's unemployed. I DI DRG really looking for work you have to ask. Right and and maybe they would look at jobs it will look a wealthy enough. Where I don't have to take that out of deference. Radiant and used to be a CFO and you know he's not gonna take that job four members of McDonald's ready he'll wait for the opportunity or people work at all. But what does it say about that. Dramatic change in the job picture tenure appeared time it is and where is the same time we do have one point four million people who have been unemployed six months or longer than that qualifies as chronically unemployed that's almost one and a half million people. As you pointed out that may be a lot of people who were in their late fifties early sixties trying to get that job that somewhere near what they had most recently. And yet they can get one the pace 45 grand but they're making a 120 you know last game. America aren't gonna work for 44 programs and he's so pure that lands like and I get that perhaps they just said you know why it yeah I wanna work but I'm not gonna do it demeaning job but what's what's really strikes me about these numbers and we have a chance. To talked about the unemployment numbers came out but. The unemployment rate which you talked about among the onion uneducated yeah. He wasn't one to go back to before 2008 we considered 5% to be full full employment. Or that indicated that most the people or help be willing to work pretty much had a job. The unemployment rate. For people with a high school education. Not college education with out of high school education. Is it five point 1%. That's an all time low. Used to be what we considered full employment for the entire economy. What this is doing the berries we are having. A huge growth in the number of jobs. For people entering the workforce. The twenty unskilled workers unskilled and young and an educated as they dropped out of high school correct in these people had no shot before. Now they're being hired in huge numbers. You're human rights for last couple years I've complained about. That pesky number of unemployed people 25 to 34 and that Tony by 54 you know twenty. It is even more concerning the 25 to 34 back up when you engage actively in the work force right if you're not in it then yet you're not working in your thirty years old you're probably never work exactly so you know we both ring the bell how important that number is that. That number is improving more than any demographic. Out there who had 25 to 34 year old a re engaging in the workforce. The bad news is at lower wages but that's because they're replacing a lot of people were retiring 101000 people you date turned 65 you know so. That's keeping a lot these jobs that these are these hourly. Hourly income numbers down. But it's a good thing because we have a new people entering the workforce that flies in the face of the Princeton study. That told us that a lot of young people are not working due to drug addiction chemical dependence. Darren that's true though I don't think the tour or are mutually exclusive yeah I think you have to phenomenon no question about that that's a drag on the number but the good thing is. For people were healthy and willing to work. An end now finding that there's actually an opportunity visual people who just discouraged. Even young people says no good jobs out there own people the margin of saying. Actually some jobs out there so the labor force has really improved and you know iced thinking. This really phenomenal that people without high school education or working huge numbers. Next thing about the way the economy's changing and we can sync member wasn't you have to have a college education get a job now are finding a lot of people apology education. Aren't qualified to do a lot of the jobs that require. Great education yet but you know what that means John is that companies like General Motors and electric boat that you've beaten electric boat. They're desperately trying to hire workers they're gonna have to actually trained workers and they're doing it through the Community Colleges. There working. You know the near wrote Connecticut for some reason is not participating terribly well but Rhode Island is actively training workers and then those workers. It and that's a program in conjunction with the electorate vote. Those workers are then going getting very good jobs their labor jobs welders pipe fitter than that but they're getting great jobs. And this is that the beautiful thing about low unemployment rate in an article in Barron's over the weekend points this out to exactly to your point. That part of the reason were we're seeing this happen is that employers are increasingly willing to take people who were less educated. And train them to do the specific skills to pay require him. Because the employers need. They kept taking criminals the U here to taking people that recently got for older out of jail in you know what that does John. That decreases the number of people social welfare programs it decreases crime you looked at you you look at society strong economy. Is correlated with the decrease in pain in all kinds of crimes. It's a hand to halo effect at. When we look at the bottom of the barrel here. The barrels looking better. And that's a good thing and we can argue about whether the higher minimum wage is a good thing or bad thing I generally think increasingly too much cost you jaws of rising tide lifts all built speak about this. Imagine your sixteen years old. You do not have a high school education. You get a fifteen dollar an hour minimum wage job that's 31200. Dollars a year for the worst job out there. You started sixteenth you'd data a woman who. Who also just left school with the tenth grade. She works at minimum wage. Between the two view with the worst job and down you can't be legally paid last. You're making 62400. Dollars you know you buy you the cheap you have lowest paid coupled with town willing to work forty hours a week. You start doing that you live at home for five years at sixteen. You look and and and and yeah I don't know I don't know I don't know. You get a packet if you figure how much. But you know deaths is he. You know you are way too leniently but people what you work and forty excellent personal but just you know they'll get out of my house. I'm trying to. Carpet I have my person but a match. 21. They've worked five years making 62000 wonders couple open now we have no debt not only the move not make up 30000 dollars to their name. And the whole west. Economic strata. I tend to agree where it is skip our trucking story we'll come back to it but I did wanna talk about zillow. And real state real estate. Is strong and be unity is the you know have a good real estate market when people are complaining there's not enough inventory. Write that that's that's a sign. You've got hot market. Lack of inventory lots of qualified buyers can't buying properties to buy. Even in that environment though so tough court that is they try to change what they'll. You know he he used to return we re jokingly said it's the realistic warned site. But it is this case is it. If my house that that thousand bucks a but it's transitioned from that. Into a place where you can buy and sell homes and they put a lot of money into this whole idea of basically being America's real estate agent. In that frankly hasn't paid off. The the it's it's still a source of income rather than a real tour where there have been difficulties right now as they tried to get into this new business would be eight by house correct and flip it and that is. I can tell you as a and as somebody who owns rules state hostages labour intense no doubt it's in its. Pain but I'd much prefer stocks aid to oust him wife owns the roasting him stocks. And I look she has to do to make money it would have to do that for what I'd give it. Zillow I think where the are doing the Smart thing. Is that you Null wing talkers ready to buy a house and it because they can tell place or results that can tell by what he's browsing. They're giving him the mortgage. I think is Smart they can me and eat the point. By referring. To a lender. One of their customers they have for access to that potential buyer. And they know more they know the value of the house signal that persons over pain under pain from that house. I think he'll do well there. I I. It in the kind of the only game in town I mean I agree do you do you use anything to use anything besides they'll my son was yet Trulia yet Trulia but their own Basil. I think. I can't confirm that you cannot get in and read him is another site he mentioned that. Most people tell me they prefer Dennis. Zillow does ultimately he either got to be happy because now that London had enough. But I I think that you know this is a temporary setback for them I think the start to realize what they can't do you know. And you know getting into the of the host flipping business is probably not something they need do as I said that's very labor intensive you gotta know that property got to be able to button. You know it wouldn't sweat equity which you can't be doing here but what it was they can be a reference point they can make a little money. Referring people to realtors that's where they've taught political money right realtors advertising it's a major source of them generating leads in the can also make money referring to Bank of America or whoever might be lending them from when they haven't yet and I think they were that could be yet know why I agree I think this is a setback for them as they realize. There's so many things they wanted to do and they don't know which they connect real well defining what you said the idea of buying and selling homes directly is is not a good. Hey we're I'd have a poll question today do you regularly use zillow. As the real state resource I do I answer the poll and absolutely use diesel. Our houses for sale now and so like in check and see how many people looked at it and how many people's seat did these information. Or buy a house disclosed. To really help the problem a lot of in order facing with security deposits which is. You know one it's time consuming to open the small internal security pop numbers it's. And yet to go into the branch got signed paperwork in their small dollars and indeed turn. And it's likely to complaints in Massachusetts really tough for landlords and security deposit accounts. You have to give them ten in certain forms when they open up the count and you have to pay interest in you and we should do all this canal through Z deposit all of that you can do through Z deposit it literally takes about forty seconds opened up an account. We handled the automatic form tattered generated in the count number department commission statement all that since the tenant. And the interest is sent to the tenant. Automatically every year. This sounds like something it's going to be very valuable to large landlords it might have 200 tenants and small landlords that might only have five tenths yeah absolutely with a large landlords. It's just a lot of hassle to managed so we make dad very efficient for the small landlords a lot of them are afraid of nineteen complaints done correctly so some of them. Some of them don't even like taking security deposits were hopeful that this will help them do that. Folks if he'd like to learn more about C deposit go to their website Z deposit dot net. And you're majority ethnic and it didn't matter edit their bring into a sport that. So rather than that it going up and down the fourteenth but I'll get your ill or are Ian. You elect happier bacon and that time as a personal shopper here it's not your protein that. Fresh vegetable brush there and be. And ultimately it freed up the time it let it is it been working on what the cut or other an up and out. And actually creating more jobs which are probably up question about not back trying to come up eat out the spot at the L adorable eat out. Net assailant stores to try to south of where it this this a pretty expensive proposition they'd have to roll out marry double boom largest employer in the United States never make it 5000 stores across the country. Realistically. What's the timetable we can be seeing this you know mainstream across wal mart's. But north of being we don't know what one of the terms of a deal and I'll bet that sit there and is. And we don't know Wal-Mart is point actually implement that. Throughout the United States that really is the cut the island eat the technology really is feasible to expand and what time it needs money and it does not make. It's not matter they are. Right there a number of doors they have about 800 or out of have all my neck out with the expectation of Richey about the third nationwide by the end of the year Kirk they're on my Irish up and really is the tree that reach out of the technology Arctic order it online. The idea of ordering. On line and picking up is catching on because you know the majority of the sales despite the hype 90% of what we buys in the store. But the fast. Both fastest growing area is is ordering on line for delivered to your house I get that or your office or your office like a very united is is very proud of the other product we left me Amazon just a little while ago five minutes ago like five weeks ago. But I. The fifth. It even if it's a very exciting moment here at the financial exchange. But this is category you know picking up but is he going online ordering and and going the sport a pick up at wal mart's invested heavily in his catching on at all. Kelly absolutely add cash in on it he was there any of their earnings call that the areas they talk about it if your area where there's been a lot of look at that because. And I thought I'm working mother eat eat there for it all all the anchor should pick up a lot out of every plane meat at your shop or. It necessary going forgo. Shopping and Wal-Mart are but you. A woman who got a job in working at a pick up groceries for. Our family and I don't it doesn't want market how to eat eat eat and you know usually pick up. Now it makes and like on line ever held up a they are being on a peep out. And the example that I like I think. If they get me think about. It means and you're eating your hurts you know I hear. It ain't go with it. Everybody is in town and all over it. The same grocery ordered I would imagine. There are split that would make sense that I would order writing giving it quickly got picked up and economic might and an alien out. DC these robots doing our shopping force like I go to Wal-Mart nice wanna buy some make the robot says. John that's really dumb you realized fat content Matt Elliott picked up some better for me. Of I don't know they have that kind of technology and other make it. Out of your customers that the fact that or the money out where it on an act but they'll. At sea island course they are going to be it a bit for me I think virtually stopping at the shore we do every week couple. I don't know how often Boca. Your visit them online it easy plumbing and made dot com. Nice today would lots of green arrows on Wall Street joining us right now Wall Street watch Mike Armstrong Micah Weight Watchers has been a great start this year but. Is it shedding a few pounds or its stock price today. It is I mean it's up over 120% and the last twelve months they reported their earnings which. But apparently greater danger ports if you look at just be revenue and profit. If credit profit about Kashmir which is thirteen cent share about that that. Revenue beat forecasts as well. And Haiti. Reach their full year earnings however they did see a slight drop in the number of subscribers. If not quite as high as those sales were expecting to spite of very strong revenue in good guide. The subscriber level of concern and pastor in the stock off right now and if he. The big lead in turning back a little bit aware of what it's a year ago no. Unintended area. And get a stock that does is also not doing too well at all you zillow despite the fact most of us use it. The stock is having some problems. Is done day this is mainly in reaction right now to enact its acquisition they're planning on beta making which. And it whatever your bank Cambodia that true that it actually going to be beneficial to your company down on the road that. The airport their profits as well I've I can its recent share above estimates with profit thirteen cents a share and revenue best forecast. Weaker full year guidance and and on top of that in now that they're big purchase mortgage lenders of America which. Yeah they'd think about it in the Mozilla's business spec makes sense being able to. Very easily facilitate getting them mortgage but however. You know pour revenue guidance. And a big acquisition corporate companies stopped stopped down about ten dollars a share or 70%. Of the news. One and now looking at the charts are all around the world looks like stock markets erupt in the US is doing great today. Yeah there are. Reaching toward that towards that all time high again that we had back in January so we're less than 1% equity markets open for less than 1% aware of the park opened the on whether. Yeah but up two thirds of 1% to about halfway there are not about. Hard Mike Armstrong thanks very much street watch. You know if it's expecting to three of us use a low. And I just thought that was giving everybody use but only 61% of our audience uses a little regularly. And couple people texted in honor Tex and at 63566. By the way. Instead they use REALTOR.com. Means more apt to be an accurate is with the audiences expressing on our tax yet we use REALTOR.com as well. You do me a result hurry so what is your opinion. I I've offers elect and just more user friendly in it's quicker for me interest in IE use zillow. Just to kind of checks off a mountain. If I were actively looking for a home I would use REALTOR.com. IDs Caldwell banker dot com. Yeah I would I would not use a low if I was actively looking for home amid such as my own prepare for a a British truck driver who's worked in the United States for a decade now. Says the biggest problem with trucking in America comes down to now drivers are compensated. You know talker. Drivers in the US truck drivers get paid by the mile not by the hour. No I don't know that I didn't need it I respect. And that's why in that in in the United States there's so we have this problem which the people are paid that way you know. And therefore there there are a lot of problems compared to other countries while accidents yup. In in England. If players the snowstorms that just pull over. In the US they're gonna keep bill and why is it paid by the month. And that is that is a real problem that is AG said I mean on one hand it would seem to be the most efficient on the other hand you the encourages. Bad driving. And it's a safety risk and that's why it's a significant issue in our teachers see how the deal with that because the industry's gonna say William now. We can save more money doing it this way and it encourages our drivers to get from point a to point B quicker right in encourage you to get your products faster than however. It also encourages people to be driving its snowstorms where they shouldn't be is that the estimate is that like changing goal outgoing power leak. Verses by the mile would. Prevent more than 2000 truck crashes you know when a guy crashes it's not a pretty easy. Yeah you think about that truck accident in Cisco actually last lunar world hockey players were killed via you know that that's the type of thing. That occurs and if the truckers are saying hey. I'm gonna pull over as dangerous. Great news notes that there's a happy medium here somewhere we could we can maintain the system you know how it is I you know do the same thing right now you'd put your pedal to the medals and I get this. And he and his delivery there and I got a big truck and I'm safe and a OK you know rationalize it and there's a financial incentive to get there in that static threatening you know I pay my mortgage so what are you saving some money and getting some efficiency in return for deaths. It's over it's a very bad tradeoff. I'm glad and I'm proud of America today and while homeowners. Have the ability to take out a lot of home equity lines and not doing. This is understanding. You know it this is no longer 2007 then when you pretty much rushed to get whatever you could. Americans have more than five point eight trillion of equity a record high more than double what they had just seven years ago a while that's his appreciation obviously. It's five point eight trillion that they could tap but they're not. And if you don't banks are aggressively trying to get you to do is home equity lines of credit I mean it's I get a mailer on every day pretty regularly yep and it's described is a long term memory issue. People got caught with home equity lines last time and they got stuck with big bills. Paying off equity that they they probably should never staff in the first place so I think over the first. Right now. Me could be boring little Woodley in the they could but you know in the old days John you can use your home equity line of credit. Pay the interest and it would be tax deductible even if true used it to take a trip to Disney yeah he could used to buy a boat. It is still tax deductible today. English you used at home equity line of credit directly for home improvement note tax deduction. And you know in in a way I think that this is actually a good thing I do too because he he's going to limit the amount of people who were getting home equity lines of credit. At worst an out right line and the worst news is the FDA was supposed to monitoring this kind of thing is basically ignoring. Present the art you know yeah the you know it's atrocious right the resist. Bakery in Massachusetts. That had. The B one of their ingredients in the cakes they made term was law. Write it in they would advertise that we are kids are made with lot. And the FDA. Crack down on. And it took but I didn't by the org you can Eddie and I I I I specifically but that was a very has credibility in this because he supports whole foods. When I don't like we are right. But the engine in the explicitly claimed that organic foods are grown quote. Without toxic and persistent pesticides. In fact organic farmers rely on synthetic and natural pesticide percent of the crop you left right. So like it's it's it's it's just. And Al furthermore just adding to that there's a biochemist. Research. He conducted. Saying quote 99.9. 9% of the pesticides in the American diet are chemicals. That plants produce to defend themselves. It Zoe I mean you're spending just extra money in flushing it down toward it when you drew buying organic. You know red peppers or tomatoes as it's just crap total crap. And it portly taking him financially absolutely TV and in terms of what meats like grass at me I think that's different but once that's labeled as non GM mole in like talk to a farmer's though what what we talked him know I'm Jamal Ali talked to a farmer. About beef pork chicken. That hall. I think and I supported Mike Stanley Cup from along line farmers insist catchment you know and I used to work on the farm in the Summers and so still close today I remember asking them this had to be thirty years ago. About organic. Budget crap that's insane it's the same stuff we just put organic. It is war and market you know grass that is different but it it is a lot better yes it's more expensive bite it's a piece of me real is and it's better for you talk a heck of Iran to go to edges it its prospectus ever weakest big tree like supports radio I mean. That was really good. Eyesight is not like an out to vote to hack and and is hopefully. There's some funny this excellent nights we are talking about zillow. In 978 rates vary. I like Trulia better they'll remember. Single company is owned by as though and that's what it's all based on user experience yet so really the only count with the I guess the competitors are the realtors zillow. REALTOR.com. And read it is that those Canada three also remember the realtors themselves coming up with better and better website you know like I'm always been unimpressed by two they're getting better but REALTOR.com is a nice collection of them in so the risk competition but they're very good position. Unaffiliated hi everybody it's Berrian Todd with you here with a quick tip from the legal exchange showed doc common. Todd I wanted to talk to you about the five year waiting period for Medicaid eligibility. As it applies to the use of the medic and a light the state so let's say I Cree I give by house away. I give it to the kids. Does that five year clock start ticking if I've done elect the state yes so if you take your house and many people do this if you take in your house and transferred to the children. And reserve the right to live there you know does that create a five year Medicaid I would absolutely it to and that's the definition of elect's right giving your stuff away. Give it away but you you do reserve that right to live there so that's at least something that you're keeping which which is certainly helpful to you must pay the property taxes and maintain the property. The property taxes and maintaining is all done by the lifetime and it you know. But I I want to stay on the five year waiting period just for minute because so many people think that it doesn't apply either to the life as they arrangement like you mentioned very. And also too when they make you hear people I can give 141000 dollars a year away because I I can do that and not pay any gift taxes that's true. That's an IRS regulation. You'll pay any gift taxes but you will have a five year waiting period. For Medicaid eligibility so it does apply to almost all transfer some including. A life estate arrangement. So yes it does apply. Sorry folks Cushing and all and is making a brand new guide available and it's very helpful for those of you who are thinking about giving your house who use like the state compares the advantages and disadvantages. From like the state to an herbal herbal trust the phone number to receive the guy is 8668485699. You can download the guide right now. But the world certainly needs semiconductor chips it seems like throw most everything but the stocks are somewhat overlooked Mark Cuban from seeking alpha joins us. Mark thanks for joining us. That you're welcome to. Good morning. Yeah mark Intel certainly I think is the granddaddy of them all but a pretty good earnings report they just don't seem to get very much respect from investors. Is that warranted. Well I think so yeah I've I. It during their earnings public about that yet another delay in their ten nanometers. Process. That's pretty important for them they're kind of stuck on the fourteen and muted note that they've been back on for several years now. And now they're saying that they're not connected nanometer apart until last fourth quarter 2019. Is this allowing our competitors like AMD two. Gain a foothold. Oh it sure does because. At AMD cut them all but he yet he you know we do announce that there next generation server was there. On code name Rome is going to be produced not quite global foundries which have been there fabric partner. And they got. But is actually going to be produced by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Yet and eat under seven nanometer process which is already in production right now. Chad turning to another company that you want to talk about it in that's intelligence we just talk about but Qualcomm. Biggest Smartphone chips I know that. Tell us what you thought about Qualcomm where mr. and of course they're involved in that that controversy with apple in the big dispute they have with them. Where they stand right now. Well. They just walked away from their act and he. And a little bit out of Baghdad will surprise. I had been. There had been kind of part of my investment pieces for all that they were buying panic and that can be. And majors and were. They were prepared and about forty billion dollars acquired the beltway and the approval from the Chinese regulators didn't come through. They have now that there are all on like. And then there's there's there's news that. So. So what's happening now they're a part of that money that they have allocated or epic the at about thirty billion dollars and want to buy. An eight year. Usually is good news or you don't like Intel knows that that is out of sell pretty much. Until separated belt I still like all I think that with that there is billion dollar buyback. That's probably gonna raise this year is something like 887 dollar per share by the and they get done with the back assuming. Bet the market cap as a company B and that all the abuse is. Mean via and here. What about the sector itself you know I think about semiconductor chips and it won't look the good news is they are everywhere the applications keep expanding exponentially. On the other hand like they're everywhere they're kind of commodity. What what do you what we thought about the sector. Well I I like that Specter overall but I I think that. The commodity aspect is a negative and I try to avoid company. Are heavily monitored I think it's helpful in that category. All. Also that true I mean there they are the mighty the Boyer we're more expensive for all of these and it. And six I wonder if it's become almost a different category because. These are kind of cash cows into old all the problems still makes a lot of money pays a big fat dividend buys back a lot of stock. So I mean the good news is that that they're less risky from a downside perspective don't you think that they used to be. Well up there. It depends. I think you're right until still very profitable like I think that there are going to these. I expect that you wrote in the next year because of the and the all common the other and I I still have pretty quote that they can. Hold on Centre there there you an expanded and that date and he's like Internet of pain in the neck device. Because they have that is on present in court with them though that's kind of where do you big distinction. Mean and now all of our you know two to go back fathers thought about about my position. There's if you look at apple apple is one of the biggest producers of mobile ship. But they're not heavily commodity because of the fact that they're active in. They'd be Apple iPhone but let you didn't mud is patient you combine that we have with software. And it in the device and and then sell that back. Great explanation and possible winners and losers in the sector Mark Cuban from seeking alpha thank you very much. For your perspective. I folks it's chuck and Mike from the financial exchange and we're talking today about how to invest in a rising interest rate environment specifically. With regards to say what kinds of sectors performed well. What kind of sector struggled when rates are going up Michael we talk about that interest for everything mortgages credit cards. Yes they are technically paying out a little bit more on CDs and deposits as well but they usually more than making up for that on the on the charges at when we look on the downside because as much as there might be good news and some sectors there's always another area that ends of struggling what parts the economy what types of stocks might struggle. If rates go up well two big areas tend to be utilities and real estate on the real stateside it's pretty obvious if mortgage rates go up van people are going to be able to afford less real estates that makes sense utilities it's a little bit less obvious but effectively a lot of investors by utilities because they're seen as a replacement to CDs or bonds in some cases because their relatively safe investments when interest rates go up sometimes they sell those safe investments in favor of those CDs and bonds folks we've given you a couple ideas to think about with regards to how to invest in a rising rate environment but there's a brand new guide out from Armstrong advisory group and only -- you to get it is call 800. 393. 4001. And then we're gonna wanna talk about the past I everybody's Berrian John Mooney with you here for the second hour of the financial exchange why the robust. Returns inequities to Tony 3% higher earnings this quarter that's so we are still that we expect a great numbers are even better than expected. Looking forward to third and fourth quarter looking at 20% beings each of the third and fourth quarters. I think if you look the market the faults wanna go it wants to go hire him and on days when you don't have bad tweets or just mostly bad tweets and the market that's McGuire I mean the news is just. Unequivocally good news on the economy. Inflation seems under control. We're getting I think a goldilocks economy seventy dollar loyalists. Not a real problem for people of those poster of driving and buying stuff at the point. And it's it's a chance the Mitt money for oil companies. And we're bigamy in the in the energy industry now in in the United States so. And manufacturing is doing better a table and it's not too caught that four point 1% number. It's actually better than having applied in a lot of ways the market. Suggest this to talk to an opportunity spent half an hour with Steve Moore last night from the heritage brilliant guy. He has and you know only he does not know. When the trade wars are going to end. But he did remind Lisa Berry Europe has come to the table Yorker and you know their they've extended the olive branch from Mexico has done the same thing. He said right now that seems to be personality clash between Trudeau and trump but he that he thinks they can get through that. Eventually right now things are pretty bad accident between Canada and the US. But he said if China comes to the table that's worth 3000 points on the Dow that's been my fear I think by 10% and that will be close through. Yet it is if this gets you would all I asked I said I tried to pin him down said Wendy think channel comedy would now he asked me when I think they'll come and I still maintain. I think. Become by Labor Day and if they don't come by labor these certain deeply come by columnist well here's here's the point the market should be a lot higher. If he had trade deal with China. Or are we just don't have a problem. If we his walk with our own hand grenades yet let me go aboard were just talking to do this stuff. If you go back to the all time high to January. We could be next January at Dow 31200. And be cheaper than we've heard this January. Just on earning based on earnings suits and a guy I'm not saying we shall be investors don't understand that it hate it when I talked to investors today. I talked to a woman in. You know I feel bad for it she's sitting on a 1000003 cash and he's petrified to tunis it. And you know she just really strong and she's a sophisticated investor yet he can't put the money in at this level. Because it's a big number it's a big number and she made the mistake of going cash and she doesn't understand what she's getting in return for which he's buying you see the this fear of big numbers vary we saw the downside but we're February look at the world's commitment because we had a generic. Eight point 5% correction or 10% correction which happens all the time but it felt so bad because those. Now how numbers were in the thousands. Bottom line is I mean. I'm encouraged by the fact that that person you talked about I think is reflective of general sentiment we've had inflows into ball on phones now. We've not had stock one point inflows in any credible. Tangible way which means that there's a lot of multi there's a lot more dry powder out there. And there's not a whole lot of excessive greed which is what drive stocks to ridiculously highs. I don't see that greed that I saw back in 1999. And I also don't see the complacency I saw in January. I see a lot of concern like what what what the woman you talked about yeah I think she reflects what a lot of big money investors feel. There's a lot of anxiety in a lot of nervousness at the end of the day. If 3% is good to reality on the ten year. And these are the kind of numbers were talking and earnings stocks are replied in yet the problem he has have as an investor. If the China deal happens it's gonna happen very quickly all gonna take for November it while it it'd they would've happened on news. They'll be whispers about it and immediately. The market or respond to a question three the day that big hedge fund and private equity firms are gonna say there's money is Smart. Sitting on the side sand I'm not putting it in until I get some sense that China is going to be. Because of their that is the cloud hanging over the market I I think that process is already happening as we speak more I don't know when he as I as the markets up today it's been up for a lot of it's. Up but this is each should be crashing if we believe that the terror story China. China is is digging in China but no one's believing it because the markets are if they believed what you're talking about that old tariffs and out of the eighteenth 2000. I think of the ones I don't think it's baked in the cake and I really get a 3000 point. One when it's put to bed but the but the US is saying. We don't think that the worst case vigorously will see we might disagree that it's okay that's a big target. Human right. It's not as Iran does what Tucker had no. Now on health food aisle that which I think it was the rant of the day it was read facts used for control. On Corning facts talk about real stayed a little bit I I always thought zeal was. You know the only game in taboo you know. Because I knew they owned Trulia in between zillow Trulia dot that was like where everybody watched the rules state. It turns out overall I again I'd have to admit it when I'm wrong. 64%. Of our audience use zillow. And as a source for real estate porn and and the other one the other sort. It. I think that we introduced it I know Tucker watches court all the time all right real sick poor sick for a and if he's buying a please raise your mind out of the scatter units. Yeah just paint on just if you feel like actors on the water prop board yeah you're right he's systematic you can jets such a good rant on the health food. Yeah now and he's got even when its potential is. Do you use they'll 64% say yes 35% or are people using. At some say stately dot com and workers is that check that I did I was on an osprey got a I got it. Stately dot com read then as a failure rate and then it was over REALTOR.com. And easy use I do via. I do too. But I personal. YOK you why I think it's a fast it and more user friendly in. And then I would go to REALTOR.com from data by far the listing elect Obama with an eye on realtor added I think what's more pictures is more information there's more property tax history. There's. Analyst property tax stuff. Yeah thank you if he gets sales price history tells her sister. Migrate my own anyway at go to our website financial exchange showed icon to participate in the pool we really want to know refusal on a regular basis or text a 63566. Movie pass what are you gonna do well. Look at them in big you know movie pass takes a lot of grief. I I paid I I bought a year subscription up front so I think they're paid like sixty bucks. And I go to Lou. I will now you can go to nice to get delivered Monday night now I can only go three months movies so it means a baby so. When mormons. When overnight per month. You can watch Netflix and don't want to win tomorrow you have about you know is the curious as I talked to a lot most of my staff are Mullen Eagles and and they never go to the movies right I know they knew after yeah ever an attacker was just on YouTube movie theater. When a sack crappy second Star Wars on last year yes while so I yours are here. Like maybe 34 years ago and yeah 88 but I'm not a millennia but I'm not a good example but you're right if it's generally older people I think. I that's not might I I can just go out and live here I see a lot of middle aged women you know when I go to moves and legal is that exit game. Is that. Yeah they pull in at least terrible. And and then begin at five in each car apparent in the Indy take over the theater than they ridicule. If you're watching a triple. You know living in I glimpses of movies that my wife wants to see. If that's what you do is they married her I've ever cracked. It didn't hurt. They get ridiculed it and her aunt and bully. Do you like the fact you know you're the only middle aged guy I do that's surrounded by beautiful woman Omar that. But it did deal has changed with movie pass. Three movies a month. Is all you're allowed to see this actually might be the magic formula that you know this is this is reasonable because I. They're getting rid of the peak pricing. Which made people really mad and what I think people got I rate was about was go to those movies but you couldn't go to major releases. And that was that was pretty bad says they've gotta back you do whatever you want but only three times which I think is entirely reasonable. So there's change in the movie pass is not quite as appealing as it was but if you like the movies it's still a heck of a deal the with their banking and he has. He has three movies a month they're probably Payne caught ten bucks a movie right so you're gonna pay. You yeah you're getting thirty dollars about you and your pain ten bucks but they're banking on new legal team period. And not using three per month yeah there's that there's people like I can't tell you I've been so busy I've been bitten to the movies in like six weeks. Ian insert their they're making money on the phone and your pre paying for and you're committing to doing it every month so yet even if you go three times and it's really not that bad a deal ends a whole bunch of people cynical one or non. Up next will be joined by load league Siegel from the economists talk about buying stocks that you invested in. The fangs stocks are certainly dominated the stock market and it's returns at least overlap past year plus. But our other tech stocks being ignored and investors oral. But weeks Siegel joins us from the economist what would thanks for joining us. Do you see signs that at least some of the things stocks. Maybe a little over extended here. I mean I don't think that the tech rallied over okay we could have taken a full blown type trade war that that would change. But meanwhile. And things I think is that the all the US tech giant used to be treated as convincing that the car and hence we confused that this Akron and and that's no longer the case these companies are no one on like Leo very different trajectory going forward then I think investors will be. Yet you look at a company like apple which is technically a fang the a lot of people myself included think its consumer products company not a tech company. That that it reckoning I can cut the world a bit differently. I mean that we talked Brokeback Mountain. Going forward it will be increasingly like Monica verses that women Margaret doesn't stand for. Make a victory to hear more like the Microsoft apple. Google and Amazon on a Wednesday for FaceBook Twitter and and the nets and Netflix. And so I think that wouldn't show it can sign of maturation that mean to patrol a beat him revenue of these are the growing. Rapidly. But I think they'll assign the short side of maturation that heady days before you know over. Advertising dollars and and there's pressure on these corrupt police that weren't all that the other kind of makah. And that. These to these companies. Some accidentally business to business. There's a past story about computing. Power to beat that that's what it better. Other groups is tech stocks may be overlooked I wonder if you could maybe pinpoint a couple of ones that don't. Look attractively valued here that that may offer better risk reward from your perspective. That I mean it. Either a an amendment of stock picker and amendment journalist but a little bit hesitant to security to the box here I would just look at. That it did to the trajectory of both these companies and and then what but it turned. Stiller and that this past crew. Right or. Who. You see it ai is the next big thing. They are is certainly a part of that story right now it is it more cloud computing in the abdomen and going to into. Any company that went to play in and grow quickly and that's what you need to it could be the. While these companies clearly do have international operations certainly international sales how vulnerable is check in general. To perhaps an all out trade war which would be the worst case scenario. That that is indeed the worst case scenario I think if if they ignore what the trade war that all of them well some well. That's that I think it is that it is that the different could've been different that the critical though. So the Google and FaceBook he'd be you don't business. Biko in China but he they would would be out. Apple seems to be the most vulnerable because most of the so it made there all of the equipment if there. And trying to carry important market. Took their district or that that can separate them but also cloud computing company. Because I mean paper that stuff the the equipment they need to build the data centers comes from China. There there's 25%. They're on such a observers and then other artwork then that that's in it about. Also this definition of standards for privacy is gonna be something we need to keep an eye on. It really varies from country to country and it's going to be an issue for what these companies because they make their money tracking us. They make the money tracking it and that is the business model which I think they do will be under increasing pressure. To what extent that would change only depend on the country and you've probably heard or before GDP are that the New York important is law. That aren't yet tried to change that felt more between consumers and and only company. Putting humans can control that may happening also in the US the California. This will pass this but now. Other countries have to India and China if China Cuba it. And intellectual property that's going to be a big issue going forward right. Intellectual property to buy me depend move which there is talking about haven't report doubly. But that type of intellectual property trouble and that he quickly. Yup so I don't think that that can be that the. What would Siegel from the economist thank you very much your perspective on a several tech stocks today appreciate it. Kind of folds into the story about FaceBook wanting to get into the banking business moon you anything about that. No you and I are both active on FaceBook we use our counts you know post. But way after the Cambridge analytical story. I really. From a security standard for financial transactions would you trust them. I would not but I have a lot of issues with the whole privacy issue with respect to FaceBook and I still find it creepy that every time I do a search I go on to FaceBook envision that for those looking for my 05 minutes later or Google you read the article to read your mail you know yeah and I should start to look at your browser history anyway yeah I mean the people our age are concerned about a noble ideals like answers to do. No privacy is chuck and Mike from the financial exchange in. One of talking a little bit about how to invest in any rising interest rate environment the Federal Reserve has raised rates twice already this year. The most likely projection. Two more hikes over the remainder of the year and Mike. Let's talk first with bonds when we talk about bonds in conventional US treasuries. How they tend to move as rates go up. Well that they tend to be in adversely correlate the price an abundance embers that correlated to the interest rates prevailing interest rates that are out there in this generally makes cents you know if if interest rates go up and suddenly you can go by that same bond that's paying higher rate of interest that the price of your bond is going to be less valuable this gets inflated the longer term that bonded so if you have a ten year bond. That price impact is going to be a lot more significant than a five year. So effectively that the part of your portfolio that you typically think to be safe money and most stable. You might have to make some adjustments in order to make sure you know losing principled during this time if you have the intention of selling as rates are going up. That's absolutely correct and if you haven't made those adjustments already this year you've likely seen in impact to your bond portfolio. Specifically when retirement that you wanna take a look at what's called the duration of your bonds. And make sure that you know it's just at least in line with the overall marketplace and you understand the impact of rising interest rates on. Guarantee you win a prize if you we got to be he you have to be Smart and yet to be that's right well not have to be Smart but if you're real fast to be number six. It can happen. If he had kind of that's going to be at a time of its kind of timing like there is or is it timing and Warren Buffett's. I want is timing the market. Yeah I pretty good call he now owns fifty billion dollars an apple I don't you ask me about this and as you know Berkshire's bite my thing. And Buffett's my guy but Berkshire now has in a 170 billion dollar portfolio fifty billion of that in apple. And as I mentioned before this is a generational debt that Berkshire's made that more than Wells Fargo. The dump more than Bank of America for its more than the railroad. What are insurance companies team for sure in terms of individual stock investments he doesn't have anything over 25 billion this is fifty IC sitting at a desk. Why do you think he's sitting on so darn much cash how much cash to see. A 111 billion dollars at an Internet that. Doesn't that. See we are making the bowl argument it earlier yeah. Isn't that a bear argument I'll tell you why I don't necessarily think so yes because. Number one he wants to put it to work. A big chunk at a time he'd love to buy a forty billion dollar business is competing with private equity and a lot of other buyers right now with cheap money it's really hard to find a deal. On a company to either buy an existing one that's publicly traded what's expensive or privately owned what or privately owned ones are getting gobbled up a private equity huge prices so. He doesn't wanna get in the bidding war the lovable Berkshire is its re defined risk reward and Buffett with a 111 billion dollars in cash else. Is pretty darn defensive right yet the IS support that me but here here's my problem. I don't Berkshire right and I'm looking at and say okay. Arguably the best industrial history and is saying I can't find anything to buy so how can I find anything. Right how can Johnny lunch bucket find something Dubai when the smartest investor on the planet can't. Will be the answer would be that it is hard for him to buy meaningful stakes. In almost 90%. Of the companies in the country. And he's also said look if I was investing five million dollars. I can make it 50% a year have no problem have lots of stuff device so you know they but the first thing that John we both know he's a bottom that your peers that you take it in that takes the point that we should. He's a 22% of this market cap in cash and amber how much money he made back in only not as much as you shoot. LTY I think in a normal situation book that would have been buying like crazy he wasn't because I think both the beard. We were very close to going off the deep end and the only deals he did with these really sure where deals on preferred stock issuances. A lot of money you obviously he made a fortune on Goldman and Bank of America a level. But but he got real safe deals the game safe 10% guaranteed he asked. They would both are convertible which when he Bank of America here's a thing those are cook those were preferred he made that converted to comment he crushed told. But he could have made more heady really doubled down on stuff that was very cheap now and he's still got what he still had not poised to cash the bottom line is this the very. The reason why Berkshire such a great risk reward need as they have 22% of their market cap in cash get off that still matches the market on the upside. Imagine if I told you. You can get S&P 500 returns done. At the same time F 22% of your money in cash when the party and listen and the music stops and the market. I'm old news or crashing down goes down a lot he says they're ready 111 billion dollars if you're having your good that's what bothers me but that's what bothers me I went when icy Buffett. Sitting on cash. Let me make you feel better moms jedi Knight he hasn't worked or are negative added tried to elect Biden at the secret sauce of Berkshire Hathaway is evidentiary its company which is the engine for all their growth. Insurance companies have a 116. Billion dollars in what. That allows him to invest money so long as he continues to right profitable or break even business. He has access to 160 billion dollars for free and it's freeze or 1000200 billion. But he. Can you you're just got to bury yourself do you think the argument to argument what. It was smartest investor in the plant at 200 billion. Okay let me rephrase it. If the market does well then you'll do well in Berkshire if the market crashes you'll do extremely well and Berkshire. What do you not like about color me skip it is. You really you wouldn't be completely screwed up argument. But. Let's talk about it. Well news and not to I know we'd opt believe if you. I shared with you dead. There is. In large part under the market in it has to do with companies. Buying back their own stock because if so darn much cash. This month and if you knew this but this month August is historically the busiest month of the year for stock buybacks. While that's due timing around the release move earnings etc. setter in the in the calendar year. But August is always a busy month begin with buybacks are going to be up almost double this year then I mean it's a massive amount of money. The bad news is historically that usually comes market tops out. Yeah I what are we won't it Bob mentioned that but but part that is because. Companies when they are washing cash are usually well into bull market where they're making lots of money you know they're also doing them Jon is their funding their pension plans. Very much so I guess remedy to this. It to the stock market. AM a lot of stuff go a lot cash just diving into stocks and in their buying indexes in I think we mentioned last week buried that there's even bigger rush because of the tax law changes. That now allow the deductibility at the old writer ray what is it September until mid September so we have a lot of money coming in from companies looking to make good for their employees by getting that underfunded pension taken care of the clock is ticking and they're racing to do that yet there's a lot of stuff going on not to mention the fact a lot of people buying soybeans in anticipation of possible terrorist you know is it even just the economy's getting them not artificial lift but I watched an ad for Jordan's Furniture yup. And the guy says. Don't forget all the double tax free weekend and or by the way. You want wanna beat the terrorists that go into effect to me because after this I'm. Look I looked into the furniture business a couple of years ago none of that stuff made the United States it's all from China. So if we have tariffs. Cost to purchase could go through the roof and you it's gonna go through roof. Every now and a factor on TV thing save it and potential matches are. So 2000 bucks increase on camera.
