It is a big jobs report Friday we got a report this morning at 830 we're gonna be running through that we happening first US trillion dollars doc every history. As well as a few other stories talking to our mark hammer from Bankrate dot com later. Mike arms John Peter how talk or civil with you today and half first thing's first we just got this job reports about an hour and a half ago. Taking a look at the numbers. Expected added jobs were supposed to be a 190000. For the month of July they came in a little bit lighted a 157000. But we did see big revisions for both may ended June so I'm taking a look at this report and I'm thinking in comparison to what we're is expecting it's about. Neutral. And I think that's a verdict in the stock market at this point you seem basically Dow and SP 500 going sideways she got basically a little bit of a mess on. June jobs but made up for with the revision substantially so I I don't get this tell it to summaries and I should freak out but I'm African out. Now so I mean on lead headline number you need that 157. Verses the 19. The wage growth number although still disappointing. At two point 7% that the annualized to wage growth number that we're seeing. Is yeah I think frankly disappointing given now though you know bid jobless in the unemployment rate we've seen but it's about in line with expectations or you don't see any concern about the Fed pop in interest rates up faster than expected. So really about in line there where you're seeing the jobs growth. Professional and business services had this most significant number of jobs growth leisure and hospitality no no big surprise there. Manufacturing. Was third biggest growth at 37000. Education and health services. Construction had some pretty good growth still lane in spite of what we're seeing to be. At least initially a little bit of a slowdown in the real estate market construction still added 191000 jobs. And then I guess no big surprise the biggest haircut in terms of jobs were government jobs. And some of us will shed tears for that others may not great so much led I mean it's always good. Kali a little biased but I also see in this construction and manufacturing jobs go up and I feel like that's. In other part of the economy where he continued hope for the strongest. Job growth the parts of the country we're you know that's the great next step into the economy for Sony people who have been left out. Since 2008. And I don't I wish my widgets are gone up by more than two point 7% but did the number in mind for what you think would be. A better number than that for which reflect. I'd like to see that close to double four and a half to 5% I think would be a much better place to you have to keep in mind that were run in. Chewed a 3% inflation so I mean if you're getting a two point 7% wage growth number. And inflation is mostly a matter and and mean and that's only measuring you know the average cost let's talk about just how losing specifically. Wage growth bidders big cost of real estate the cost of housing over the last decade. Has exceeded wage growth two times. Days there and the 8299. Yeah I'm coming very close to three by accident actually acted over three because I had to sit that one of these servicers on the highway access and such a Russian and couldn't get off the highway surprise I think Treo seven at the gulf off of 128 so. Yup I'm I'm up over three bucks a gallon so that's that mess DOT premium that's right you get slightly better gasoline and the master Mike says you pace slightly better data takes mixer cargo fest if it. It's on diesel. And thus are sure about that but. Nonetheless a jobs report that. Again I think it's about in line you're seeing the markets react likewise. No big surprises here. Again okay. ID while in line I think a pretty big disappointment on the wage growth number and to me it's. Severely surprise me if you'd tell me if you're seeing this as well but when I talked to people when I talked to people that are working in. The most industries in tact. You'd bars and restaurants. Hospitality I I see wage growth I see them taking new jobs. Really across the board to me the only areas that I think are showing a bit weakness might be like. You know I speak to some insurance agents or financial advisors that might be you know taking a little bit of a wage cuts. Because of pricing pressure but generally speaking. I feel like everyone's wages are up and I'm not seeing it in these numbers. And he certainly you're seeing incredible. Just shortages of ability to fill jobs go to. Skilled manufacturing jobs and the Connecticut River valley you're Worcester County Massachusetts. Parts of New Hampshire. There are thousands and thousands of these you know really decent. 45050. As even you know mr. peck an overtime 6070000 dollar. Jobs great job for people going straight on high school and they're going unfilled. Yeah and it mean especially if any anyone is out looking for work in any of the coastal New England areas right now I mean he he he you can get whatever job you want there Yuri lifeguard or a bartender upended there's huge shortages in those areas and soaks. And you'll. An official Browner this is when you're down to the cape. You're finding more more people working for the summer from countries you've never heard up like Moldova you know there isn't. Think there's young lady ringing you up in the supermarket. From mold of or bella group's order. You know it is just remarkable that blinks to which people have to go to get summer jobs field. And those are and in those workers direction it wants fewer than they have been of the last five to ten years we've cut down on the numbers in the summer work visas pretty significantly and there even have a tougher time goes. But anyway jobs report was about in line we're going to be speaking with that. Mark camera from Bankrate dot com to give us there opinion on the reports but about in line still disappointing on wage growth but I'll tell you know what a disappointment that we saw yesterday. Was anyone that owned Apple's stock was pretty excited apple hitting the one trillion dollar mark the first company in US history to ever hit that price. And just imagine you know if you had bought apple twenty years ago forgotten about it and you know it's just been. A tremendous run and sort of the iPhone is sort of become the world's default. Smartphone play competition Samsung. But I this and I know it's we've all you know been expect in the state 200 over. Not to do this is today's poll question but you got to pick one stock. Buy it putted war for five years. Is an apple or is it more likely Amazon or alphabet. That's a tough call. Because it feels a look at this apple one trillion dollars it feels happy to me you know feels like 999 bucks for an iPhone. EU did you pull it using get economic and iPhone pretty amazing to get me and a four digits. For a phone yet you Peter you posing that question makes me think that you you're pretty apple. Last and that analysts is that correct. It just feels like I can totally see all the reasons weigh in as on comes roaring by apple you know apples or opportunity apple sells a phone and I'm. Few other things Amazon sells everything provides a way to disrupt every industry. Google. You know taking over. Essentially every form of advertising and information that's out there trying to figure out where is the next trillion dollars of apple market cap come from. It's a good question and I share your doubts about Apple's business model. However. I shared your thoughts and feelings about Apple's business model and their ability to continue to grow. Two years ago four years ago eight years ago and they've blown through all the expectations. You know I took a look at. The big number the big thing for me was when all of the Verizon Verizon AT&T and T-Mobile they all came together and said hey we're not gonna continue offering all of these subsidies on cellphones anymore where are getting out of that business of trying to attract people to our platform. By giving away free iphones and I said. On the loans gonna go and spend a 1008. At at times by 700 dollars on a brand new iPhone. Now to 2000 dollars I was witness that. Not a chance you know in their right mind is gonna spend 999. Dollars and on ten they did guess what I. Wrong I was way who were Brito. It's I mean you know I talked it was a now there can do that but don't we were we were all completely incorrect matter stations about apple and they have blown through that trillion dollar mark. And on top of that rumors about the release this coming September is that. Their new phones going to be even more expensive. Yeah and I think people and it's about I don't understand it but they've. Apparently they will. Less phones but it's a bigger price point yeah so. You know a lot of people pretty happy about that none the least would be Warren Buffett. Second largest owner of Apple's stock. Only behind I believe and ours who you know kind of does and it doesn't know actually owns Apple Stock all their investors in vanguard funds on Apple's stock so. Warren Buffett who took a pretty big stake back in 2016 is. He's around 5% at this point he was 5% of Apple Stock that's right Yang and so he's he's from his hands at three aptly. Apple is still the second most. Shorted stock in the entire US stock markets a lot of people feel the way you do Peter in the way you do Tucker. But they have certainly beat all expectations. This does bring us into our poll question Tucker. Which is about Amazon and dad there ability to reach the trillion dollar mark so I've tell us about Dell we wanna kind of know who's next and all signs point towards Amazon right. The idea but our poll question today is will Amazon. Reached the one trillion dollar valuation mark this year I voted now. You voted no I voted no I think they're gonna get to a next year and I think if they're gonna be big holiday season which will put him. Over the top January 29 team output that the board and I may disagree with yes so in that two this year to all right this second. What the market camp of Amazon is how close to the need to to go they're about and we wanna be right up to the second with a live radio and make sure there were active and you have. There I had an 886. Billion dollars in market capitalizations. That puts in about 11% away for an from hitting you truly using the cover that the Shia thanks. Aka I think they're like don't okay well that is gonna talkers while critical. I like it and you can vote on our poll question at financial exchange showed dot com. Think anybody else is going to be the first two trillion of thing Google's gonna somehow down some swaying in there than shoot us a text you can Texas at 63566. And we're here to talk about a brand new product available for landlords it's called Z deposit dot net Jake. What. Barry we created a security deposit product. To really help the problem a lot of blame border facing with security deposits which is. You know one it's time consuming to open the small enough security commerce science. And yet to go into the bridge yet signed paperwork and their small dollars and in the turn. In exactly the complaints in Massachusetts really tough for landlords and security deposit accounts. You have to give them ten in certain forms when they open up the count and you have to pay interest a new and we should do all this canal through Z deposit all of that you can do Thursday deposit it literally takes about forty seconds to open up an account. We handled the automatic forms that are generated the account number department commission statement all that said lieutenant. And the interest descent of the tenant automatically every year. This sounds like something it's going to be very valuable to large landlords it might have 200 tenants and small landlords that might only have five tenths yeah absolutely with a large landlords. It's just a lot of hassle to managed so we make dad very efficient for the small landlords a lot of them are afraid of nineteen complaints done correctly so some of them. Some of them don't even like taking security deposits were hopeful that this will help them do that. Folks if he'd like to learn more about C deposit go to their website Z deposit dot net. Or you can call and speak to somebody on the Z deposit team it's 781641. 8691. Or online at Z deposit dot net it helps. The financial exchanges all over New England to go to financial exchange showed dot com and search for the station closest to view this as the financial exchange radio network. Well before the show we're talking about how far Amazon is away from the one trillion dollar mark and as a techsters always frequently point out to there better in grammar than main house is 13% away from the trillion dollar mark not 11% away so thank you wait 60 my apologies. We're 13% way round or 2%. I. I've heard it is sort the fly ECB the piceance math I didn't due to analysts but nonetheless I can demand that I'd just into math. If it. So that is our apple question that they by the way if you haven't gone to financial exchange showed dot com the question is will Amazon reach the one trillion dollar mark before the end of the year my bet is yes in spite of the fact that it's 13% weigh in on 11% of where I still believe in it. Let's see where. That goes from there CBS we are in the middle of a there in the middle of a bit of a disaster scenario their CEO Les Moonves who. Personally when I think of CEOs that are intrinsically tied to the brand I can't do anything of anyone more tied to CBS brand analyst moon does at this point I don't were DM rather so bad I mean. It may be could well I guess Iran must time being tied to Tesla is probably more prominent than last moon that's tied to CBS bet. Day CEO this so. Intertwined with that company. Is being investigated for sexual harassment. Multiple women the several people and you know as I've brought up there are very few of these investigations. That don't end up having at least some. Truth to them and usually the people being investigated or ousted at the company's so. Not good news for CBS the stock price has been reflected. They had their earnings call on Thursday. And it sounds like he was just. Hey they didn't talk about it whatsoever or are they they issued strict. Orders to you know it's you were not allowed to ask about this this is. Probably the single biggest thing overhanging CBS at this point is the CEO. Gonna be gone. In a month and what happens next and so they issued orders. Yes were in the news and information business but no your censored. You can't ask any questions about the most obvious thing that needs to get talked about and the next 48 minutes the stock analysts were. Very well behaved sheep who just stuck to exactly what they photographs were ordered to do. And I'm Derek I mean I bitch. It's a lot of people are clear in my opinion they should have asked about it the single biggest thing that's doubt their stock price to yield the company. She's the one giving their reports and it's a good question why hasn't this person at least suspended during the during the investigation. On the other hand where you are one of these analysts your job is to be on those calls if you get kicked off the call big year. Potentially have a job so it does cut both ways but it's a fair critique you know AD's these analysts. There's been at least you know accusations. That these analysts intentionally did pretty good reports on the companies in order to. The analysts again to ask questions on the reports I mean when that's fair critique went. It's typical that 39 out of forty analysts following the company have a buy rating on it so I think people attended to. We see over regain his everybody discounts the greetings and what they booked to or the qualitative. Assessments are kind of the DT Beatles your. You know grain dealer observations that. Else from it that's where the news is because the ratings are just hopefully hopelessly corrupt I would say yeah. They are the you constantly see the him all and most analysts. Putting ratings on companies because again. Just had to get on the calls. Sure Byron if but I imagine if we invested just offered three sentences at the very top of the call doesn't look like you know I know there's this situation at their about me. It's under investigation we take these issues incredibly her sleep CBS and cooperating fully with the investigation. I've got nothing more than I can tell you and we will let you know as soon as there is a conclusion. Now wanna talk about what's been happening in the business. Imagine that isn't you know I agree how much differently I mean just lead off the Carl calling we wouldn't be having this conversation right. Everyone's question the company going forward yeah I mean quite frankly I don't think that he should be in any public roles right now. Dollar if you're gonna ask sharp for this or on your being investigated this sort of thing happened at least paid leave it is something to take you out of the public spotlight where it while this happens it is the fact that it's six women were alleging sexually raster even sexually assaulted them I mean it's that. One he said she said it six you know we've seen. An awful lot of and try to make a case. Maybe case where we said this much smoke and there was an at least some fire. I I can't think of anything and you know there have been instances where the companies have also not handle the situation I mean we just got finished at the Wynn Resorts. Story here written word. And did nothing for her seemingly almost ended up for a clunkers and you Buren headlines every day or the wrong reasons so I think it's a mistake by CBS no doings the board by no at least taking a hate taking the spotlight for now even if he's gonna continue to run things behind the scenes take them off the calls taken off the press conferences. Would. At least be feeling that's an item on multi billion dollar companies so maybe yet. Yeah yeah that's that's yet to be seen yes. And me. Quickly it's the story about Tesla this company continues to be the most shorted company. On the entire stock markets. And incredibly popular brand to bat again Stan I'd you can guess why they burn through cash at such an incredible rate. I VC EO and they have a crazy over what I love about this and or what are wars he does aides like the Donald Trump of the the private industry rate but down. Time now for Wall Street watch a look at the market's performance so far today the victim Marian joke right here on the financial exchange radio network. And welcome back to the financial exchange Peter how Mike Armstrong in for a theory and chuck today he's the good looking Armstrong and the guy would know. Air on M and Mike shake shack catching your attention in the Wall Street what signal what's up with them. Well they've reported frankly pretty good quarter that eleven cents a share I share ahead of estimates for the current quarter. Profit 29 cents a share. Revenue beat forecasts. Same store sales were up by analysts were all expecting them to raise their full year forecast. Is company that. That is just been on a hair over the last twelve months and there. Nearly doubling their stock price in the 52 week low. However. They did not raise that full year forecasts and analysts are pre disappointed stock is down right now in spite of what was again a fantastic earnings report stock is down right now in percent on the news though so pretty even the days of people paying thirteen bucks for the seven dollar hamburger. Slowing down maybe. You know I have to it is it was a heart attack in the next five years so QB stuff. DISH Network people are not dumping the ditch. If they are but not quite as fast as we were expecting. That was basically the gist of their court hearings report. Earnings on top and bottom line revenue were in line. They continue to lose their paid subscribers. But the pace of those losses slowed so. Company that is seemingly slowly dying but not dying quite as fast as we're expecting it on that news stocks up 7%. Keep in mind folks if you take a look at that you know one or five year chart this is just a company that has. Hemorrhage money hemorrhage customers I don't really see how they turned around and exit dated technology it is bad to dish on your roof. Yeah it's just an unnecessary technology Tuesday's DirecTV. Yeah I think they took the wise moved in bought out by AT&T users. And there are ready realizing you know there there are doing. You know direct streaming to households and plus thirty about a month that and DISH Network. Doesn't seem to have a solution to the city's like when it rains you literally can't get a signal yes very dated her if it. I say that dish is a great candidate for private equity takeover just somebody comes in and they they ride the thing to death but do you figure it would suck out more money for a while it's dying and that's up the private equity is good yet they are now I would not be surprised to see that happen here I mean it's it's down to about fifteen billion dollar market cap at this price so. I've been a rough few years that company. So speaking of a company that's got a lot of negative sentiment we're talking a little bit about Tesla before the before the break. So this is. The one company in the stock market that has more money betting against it then any other there are more short positions or the dollar amounts in short positions on this company today announced by ten point five billion insured interest which is incredible because remember test is not that big of a company in their mid cap company right now. And it's not like when apple has a budget short interest and it tests was a pretty small company to have this big. Of a short interest and it's by yesterday they popped by 16% and how much did those shorter is lose yesterday. Though one point seven billion. In one day losses if the some that I assume is he get that phenomenon where you get some number of people who were short and they said they have to scramble to buy yeah NC got a little artificial. Inflation in the stock price. It doesn't hide how did you see yesterday that said TU. The long term story that Tesla seems to be crazy over priced is and figure out how to make the the you know the mid range car at a profit. And still has a nutty CEO who. Goes crazy on Porter six times today. None of that really changed to me the big thing that was a surprise was they weren't burning through quite as much cash is that most people were expecting that the reports came out and they are still burning through cash but a lot of people expected to be wave away harsher than actually was. That was good news and then the second big piece of it is. Elon Musk who is being very aggressive very combative with analysts and researchers. You know it's a conciliatory tone tone he apologized for his behavior. And have all of that yet again but Watson asked retires and picture entire world tired tired and emotional needs to stay on fleet street. While that might not seem significant for a different company. Tests as a company where it Ilan mosque is the reason that investors will loan him money will capitalize the company will provide cash. And if he's taking a you know. Conciliatory tone it's gonna bring investors and where's she's probably scared if you investors away the last few months and years ago that. Contributed to 16% gain here and did you know the story turnaround they suddenly making profitable Tesla is now. But. If it buys and another year and half of cash to burn then you know bad news for the stock. 2211 Wall Street it is firm here in Boston called Kwan opium which is a quantitative asset management firm. They built eight trading model based on Eli mosques tweaks. They came up with a way to use artificial intelligence to sort of evaluate the sentiment. Of them and what they figured out was if you. In best buy and sell. Based on that protests by cell based and the tone. You mosques tweet she can make a little bit of money. You'll actually you know be able to us somewhat predict the movement of the teachers tutor had hit a lot of also video and. Yeah that's. Folks it's pretty hard to find a bank that has checking and savings accounts that are provided decent return and if you're in the market for one look no further than leader bank Zuma rewards account. Mass residents only these may reduce earnings rates had to change without notice member FDIC leader bank a step ahead. So. Back to tech product companies in apple is a technology company but I think of them as really consumer products company. We had the IPO of the company called sonus yesterday. Anyone that's not familiar they make Smart speaker and Alex how Mars except for exactly hide but high quality you know I think of them on the same level in terms of quality goes down as pros and exactly. So this company went public and my question and a lot of people's question is how are they going to grows there business and I mean. Yes certainly people there are going to be. As they become more popular I think people will be investing in these systems they're not cheap the I think the cheapest because they have goes for 300 bucks. But at the end of the day they're trying to sell themselves attacked company and they are really consumer products company and I'm not sure where they grow from here to either of you have one of these. I tell but I know people do. Mrs. Howe got one and unfortunately it's when it's so we've can I'm now in that situation where there five remotes. I come home when I just wanna turn on the TV set that you get a turn on the tuner and thinking you know it's got nine different things that can be connected to more anonymous sonus. And I hate to say it more often than not when the whole system is screwed up it's the sonus that needs to be as plugged. Every booted now so I don't understand why this is a standalone company. As opposed to you know a product that's offered by. See an apple or you know at the private label speakers that are. You get your pain and on here Comcast your Verizon fire house and you get much music comes through a private label it is. How it survives as a standalone. Integrated company rather than either product sold by beer company or a service. Offered by a search provider. I I tend to agree it is I have two of these speakers. OK they are. Wonderful they play music throughout the whole house is it Bluetooth personals and it goes over Wi-Fi so today is actually a lot better to your phone does need to be January news speaker to work as a pre connects to the Wi-Fi network and thought and it recognizes the speakers are on there you can be. Anywhere in the house playing music or radio or whatever you want and it's really nice. There are becoming integrated with Smart speaker's seat can you tell year elects they're gonna turn on the zone hosts. Which is all very nice but. They are incredibly will be built speakers and to clip that delivered really good sound for a pretty expensive price. And the whole thing is that they expect the you know lifetime of these speakers to be ten plus years the yet that's my thinking too I mean you look at a company. Like this or go pro just like you by your speaker you buy your camera. Once. And when you get a buy your next speaker. So I mean I when nearby annex camera via could be wrong you know maybe maybe this will grow and such popularity that though just knock the competition out of the water. And I look at it and say. Everyone's getting pretty good at making them good sound quality I mean if you listen to music on your Google home or your docs say it's actually. Pretty solid quality exactly and while this is better apple to Butler apple to. I think the the life cycle of the product is. Quite long. And I don't see how they're going to be able to really incentivized people to. Continue to talk to me this is why why do you buy a 46 dollar bottle I'm when there's a fourteen bottom dollar model one that probably this you know. Close it's not it's not 13 is good right. Nonetheless the stock IPO yesterday and it's up another 11%. Today so there are people that clearly disagree with us and I'll be contrarian sometimes of one of the semi good deal with some sort of auto maker about being the exclusive speaker that car. You know sort of like decibels the lines that you've dealt with if you apartment cars and do that. And maybe you know maybe the technology will be. The application that they have for the speaker as from what I've seen far better than anything else out there so that's been impressive in the integration they can do. Some ABM isn't something that I don't see it right yet. Anos in your senate that's right coming up next risky remark camera about the jobs report we got this morning. Unaffiliated hi everybody it's Berrian Todd with you here with a quick tip from the legal exchange showed doc common. Todd I wanted to talk to you about the five year waiting period for Medicaid eligibility if as it applies to the use of the medic and a light the state so let's say I Cree I give by house away. I give it to the kids. Does that five year clock start ticking if I'd done elect the state yes so if you take your house and many people do this if you take in your house and transferred to the children. And reserve the right to live there you know does that create a five year Medicaid out absolutely it and that's the definition of elect's right giving your stuff away give it away but you you do reserve that right to live there so that's at least something that you're keeping which which is certainly helpful to you post to pay the property taxes and maintain the property. The property taxes and maintaining is all done by the life Tenet at you know. But I I want to stay on the five year waiting period just for minute because so many people think that it doesn't apply either to the life as they arrangement like you mentioned very. And also too when they make it's you hear people I can give 141000 dollars a year away because I I can do that and not pay any gift taxes that's true. That's an IRS regulation. You'll pay any gift taxes but you will have a five year waiting period. For Medicaid eligibility so it does apply to almost all transfer to and including. A life estate arrangement. So yes it does apply. All right folks Cushing and all and is making a brand new guide available and it's very helpful for those of you who are thinking about giving your house solely use like the state compares the advantages and disadvantages. We're joined now by mark Hamrick from Bankrate dot com and mark we got the jobs report this morning and I would say partially in line with the expectations a bit of a miss on the on the top one jobs number but they did revise up the last two month stretch of what was what was your take on. I think that's absolutely right down in the the middle terms of the way to look at this and obviously. All of us have different perspective on how all this data can be important investors. Short of long term have ways to look again out of equity verses fixed income. Etc. And then just all of those who are the workers are reliant on wager earners or are sort of daily law. And employers and workers all look at it that differently as well but. I think the most important take away right now is that the US economy has broadly been at a pretty good placed we know that that growth reading were. The second quarters probably going to be the best for the year four point 1% still to be revised code out. And if we get growth by the end of the year that ends up averaging 3% and that's pretty good what happens between now and obviously is yet to be seen but. I would not focused too much on the headline number missed the on the payrolls right now because as you say. The recent trend has been quite respectable and the other part is we need to remember. That were nine years into an economic expansion we need to get out about eighty to 100000 jobs out of the month just to keep pace with the population. And so to the extent that we had a number that was well above that means that we're continuing to dwindle away the remaining slack in the workforce. Parent or fair enough on the jobs number now are you as disappointed. As I am on the the wage growth number I I. You know I keep being wrong about my predictions that we're going to get a surprise at some point on this week's number and we just you know two point 7%. Out average. Well I think of but along a couple their Frontline and so for a as I think about. By aspirations. For our country. Broadly speaking including the great American middle class that. Really was behind the best story post World War II. It has been left wanting. For many years now particularly with respect to real wage growth beating the difference between. Wage growth and inflation. The weight gain we have seen have benefited the wealthy primarily. But also those of the lower. End of the wage scale which obviously that part is great but we also need those in between to do well so. For the people disappointing I tried not to be emotionally. Connected to all those but I do think that there is a piece a piece. That says that if the trend has been established over the long term that wage growth is not going to occur at the rate that we expected. We probably need to ratchet down our expectations having said that. I think people will continue to expect that we be further improvement for as long as the economic expansion continued. Fingers crossed that we can sort of squeezed that out ordinary team that only four months. If you were a gambling man who would you bet on inflation increasing faster than job growth. Her than than wage growth or vice Versa which way do you see that accelerating faster. Well there are too many dynamics to be able to have a confident that are not right now because we're sample of the trade dispute peace in the Arabs should. You've got to working at different ends of the spectrum right you have the depressing. Aspect. Meaning of that the downward pressure on prices that occurs where. Dampened demand for bank and so for example. That's been the case with commodities prices. But at the other end of the Specter of you have things like news print Canadian lumber or steel to aluminum. Of those prices all risen and obviously the Federal Reserve is going to be as much on the case that the possibly can be. To try to manage against inflation empowered to be about where speed to be out of control. So I tend to think that. The global dynamics or such between the global economy and the technology. That there are a lot of tools that are sort of weighing against the rampant increase in inflation. And that the strength in the job oracle probably continued to play is sufficient role double. Continue to make some progress and wages but I don't think you'll get out of the three and a half percent level by the time that expansion and the a couple of years. Yeah yeah I tend to agree this year I think it's. Bid to neutral foreign guest Paula doesn't change anything from the Fed's perspective I don't think they're more or less likely to raise interest rates based on anything this report. Absolutely I think that this report just. Tell them they don't care up any pages they previously jotted down on the illegal pads and so. This is important enough for members to your audience that. We are in a rising interest rates and firemen and so that has implications obviously for investors but for the space that we really occupied at Bankrate. Savers and borrowers and so where does that impact. Primarily borrower's credit card rate. Auto loans home equity lines of credit personal loans. Adjustable rate mortgages so more now than ever pay down our off those credit card balances and shop around for better rates particularly here's bill and a adjustable rate mortgage and have a refinance you expect to still be in the old oil. And on the savings brought those returns are becoming slightly more generous but it really does pay to shop around because there is a huge. Variants in the rate that people are paying for any variety of different kinds of believing that's once again being a Smart shopper does have some dividend. Absolutely great take appreciate the input mark that's mark camera from Bankrate dot com mark have a great weekend. What kind of sector struggled when rates are going up Michael we talk about that let's start off first with the good news what types of sectors typically are able to hold up well. In a rising rate payers. Historically at least we do have to point out that you know every economic environment is different but historically. Banks have done pretty darn well during arising in Sri environment that seems to make a lot of sense right if interest rates go up. And banks are charging a higher rate of interest for everything mortgages. Credit cards. Yes they are technically paying out a little bit more on CDs and bank deposits as well but they usually more than making up for that on the on the charges that they have go. When we look on the downside because as much as there might be good news and some sectors there's always another area that ends of struggling what parts the economy what types of stocks might struggle. If rates go up well two big areas tend to be utilities and real estate on the real stateside it's pretty obvious if mortgage rates go up van people are going to be able to afford less real estates that makes sense utilities it's a little bit less obvious but effectively a lot of investors by utilities because they're seen as a replacement to CDs or bonds in some cases because their relatively safe investments when interest rates go up sometimes they sell those safe investments in favor of those CDs and bonds again folks. Happy Friday everybody big jobs report this morning Mike Armstrong Peter how Tucker Silva with you I jobs report this morning came out a 190000. Jobs expected. 157000. Came in but the unemployment rate as well as the wage growth number directly in line. And also numbers revised up for both June and made to make this about an average as expected jobs report no no surprises on the wage numbers which is a bit of a disappointment. But nonetheless about in line meaning. The Fed is about just as likely to increase interest rates again at their next meeting. Likely heading for four total interest rate hikes this year. Which brings me to a story about the housing market because anyone that's been in the market to buy it and Tucker. Has seen interest rates moving up and up and up. Do not adjust your radio the costing as in the ski yet. So who. You know that has been combined with a couple of other factors to lead just as elitist. At least lead us to see some cracks in the foundation. Of this real estate market unintended. Do you know do. For someone that's actually looking at how straight talker area of what is your feeling at least on the housing market from what you've seen. Yeah I mean we've been watering the market all the way back to early spring and it's tough out there yes but. Over the past month or so I have seen. Price drops across the board. Me you don't I feel like. We've kind of reached our saturation point of up high priced housing. And you've seen how has come down from 5000 dollars all the way down to 30000 dollars I've seen yet. I am now look on the South Shore all across that area. So yeah I think fall it's going to be a little bit better in terms of me wrote planning house as a buyer who has a buyer seller right out ISS. Cure right so there's an interest content to be on the market site the house and I now live and we but. And closed on August 1 we had people who owned it suddenly got a great job had to scramble move kids. And you may find situations like there were people are you know willing to make a deal. Yep today I think you see that the day there's two big factors here that are leading to it seems like. Just a lack of new buyers in the real estate market a you know rising interest rates does that people's buying power against decreased when interest rates go up to four and a half percent. Which I think is about what we're seeing for a thirty year fixed rate mortgage these days. The other big thing is that Chinese buyers. Seemed to be disappearing from the housing market and they believe it or not have played a very very substantial rules that substantial role. At least in this few specific markets have the last few years there the single largest group of international buyers. Ellen eight bit wealthier suburbs are bused in with good school systems it's been huge Lexington. Reply I'm Wellesley Newton and you know Chinese it was coming and paying all cash. And if part of this I feel like a a minute different situation we're three kids up out of the house were looking around thinking about we do the slate downsizing thing. Cramming DC 800000 dollars 900000 dollar million dollar. Houses which you know thank got a bit have been in this council and enough to built up equity to total look at that. Neighborhood by us. The places you wanna live around Boston 800009000. Dollars. It just does not give you the level of house that you think it's going to when you you know you go to and really any level of price Whittier. Coming into the market order. You looking to make the first move up or the second of opera that dance that. I think people are just getting sick of how incredibly expensive things are for what you're actually getting and saying and you know I'm just gonna sit this out and wait for prices come down and have this feel like it's more of a value rather than just insanity. Yeah Andy on the West Coast section being felt even stronger so I mean. Seattle Silicon Valley housing markets that for years have been on fire. And again the Chinese buyers in those markets have you been far more substantial and air dropping out pretty darn quick and you're seeing home prices. Move fast in you know watery booming market and side you know I don't think this is. I don't think this is cost ago running a furor in a homeowner in one of these markets as seeing some slight price declines but. It sounds like real statins are really having to have. Come to Jesus conversations with their clients say. You know that price point that you have been talking about in getting ten offers over listing price it's just not gonna happen in this environment right now that. Good news for buyers as as always you can you know afford that increase borrowing cost or for those of us who were lucky to be a cash buyer not me. You could you know really find some deals have been texts. Maybe eighteen months as things start to slow down a little bit in some places in yeah in some local markets still there are places where prices just continue to go through the roof. You know speaking of the Chinese buyers breaking out the Chinese stock market which has held the status for a wild recently lost their status as the second largest stock market. In US a in the world. It compared the US they have a market capitalization now six point 09 trillion. After falling about 25% this year losing that plays for the Japanese stock market. Course Chinese stock market. You know do you really believe numbers in the Chinese stock market a lot of froth and for Parikh in the Chinese stock market Ed agree yet but I believe the total value of its do I believe the individual company's earnings reports two I believe the economic data coming out of China no wind no but. I believe. The total amount of money it's actually invested in those shares via American money going in there you have Japanese money going in there at the total value of all the shares of Chinese corporations believe. Whether or not those numbers are backed up by a mobile earnings and real employment figures from the Chinese government's I have no doubt that a lot of those numbers are fabricated a fair bet. All of this of course tails and Paris and the value of the US market which is valued at 31 trillion compared to the second biggest now six point 16 trillion. But again. If we're talking about why money is drying up in terms Chinese money coming to the United States in buying real estate. Chinese UN is getting beat up because of trade worth the Chinese stock market getting beat up because of trade wars and there's just not as much money rolling around into the US market. As there once was true boards are good and easy to win. And since the or nobody wins in a trade war. Couple different opinions on the Warner Bros. recently purchased up rocks and we two. One of talking a little bit about how to invest any rising interest rate environment the Federal Reserve has raised rates twice already this year. The most likely projection two more hikes over the remainder of the year and Mike. Let's talk first with bonds when we talk about bonds in conventionally US treasuries. How they tend to move as rates go up. Well that they tend to be in adversely correlate the price an abundance embers that correlated to the interest rates prevailing interest rates that are out there in this generally makes cents you know if if interest rates go up and suddenly you can go by that same bond that's paying higher rate of interest that the price of your bond is going to be less valuable this gets inflated the longer term than bondage so if you have a ten year bond. That price impact is going to be a lot more significant than a five year. So effectively that the part of your portfolio that you typically think to be safe money and most stable. You might have to make some adjustments in order to make sure that you're not losing principled during this time if you have the intention of selling as rates are going up. That's absolutely correct and if you haven't made those adjustments already this year you've likely seen in impact to your bond portfolio. Specifically when retirement that you wanna take a look at what's called the duration of your bonds. And make sure that's you know it's just at least in line with the overall marketplace and you understand the impact of rising interest rates on. A GE engineer linked to China still power plant technology which. Shouldn't come as a surprise just this is why. In my opinion why we should be having tariffs on China and the one area of tariffs that I think are actually being successful. I'd terms of their cause going after this sort of behavior. So we have this story who is again and again spy novel he was sending. Emails to himself. And so beyond my level of technology you simulate pictures of sunsets and stuff in which. Lines of code were embedded within the pictures that he is gonna somehow you know take turnaround and or may perhaps Ari did south of the Chinese Government. That same mess at the name bullet but doctors coaching Beijing who is a US citizen. MIT graduate has forty GE patents but this is quite an elaborate. It apparent effort to move secret GE technology I'm dude you know thunder I want to his home phone. Under his home computer. What I think's the most amazed me was FBI agents raided his house Wednesday seized his passport electronic devices they also took out a handbook that accorded the Wall Street Journal. Explains the type of resource is the government of China will give to individual or individuals or entities who can provide certain technologies so it's like. Is this the SMP Greenspan's book of steel technology give it to China for fun and prizes. I mean yes I got this workable detail and this is exactly why we need to have it's its policies against her eyes because they. Give publicly acknowledge the fact that this is part of their near a part of their economic policies we will pay people. For trade secrets and they did do it very publicly. This there's documentation on it is. No surprise to me you know what did surprise me is in GE. Sure what you do with this way I mean they they knew going back all the way to I think 2012. Was it that he had. He only Chinese business that directly competed with GE's products. What could possibly go on I don't know Ivan maybe I'm maybe I'm critical over the critical of G here. I'm hopeful that it's some essentially sort of sting operation you know that they have they've sort of let the you know not like operation fast and furious it's sort of let this keep playing out so that the FBI he picks up more about how does China do this and you know what their techniques what do there methods. Hopefully that's what is been awesome they've been going on since fourteen G had noticed that he is sending out file since 2014 it caught on to this and yeah I agree hopefully the FBI's been involved since that point American Superconductor in west pro Massachusetts in our listening area that's a company that essentially had. All their proprietary technology stolen by China you know it's it's it's a real deal in Asia prom. I have many meal listening today are probably retired are getting close to retirement age see of taken time to think about what happens if you're spouse gets sick and need inch need nursing care what would you do if your spouse didn't have enough money to live on because you were in nursing home and depleting your assets by thousands of dollars a month. Had no interest not never tried one Peter I think of meal kits is essentially the high cost of take out with all the inconvenience of cooking and now you're exactly right there with the we've been we've got a couple times news is exactly in the possession pretty good and I'm always impressed Domanick protests. This just went to Harlem. But it who are Africa. What no one of the other ones up there putting terrorists on the there's there's so me as a good amount I mean the biggest ones are pep hello freshen blue apron. But there's over 150 of these. That there is an enemy. I say a 150 it's not like they're 150 companies that just due meal kits but would you go to anywhere now they have a version of the meal as solid beaches. And it is pretty get. Eyes a couple of cheapen it a pitcher was. Neither of those two companies by the way blue apron nor hello fresh have managed turn a profit yet and the story at a market watch is that there's going to be cents a year. You know polling of the of the group here is profits just aren't happening a lot of other companies that can probably do this ahead of a lot cheaper and better are getting into the game like Costco BJ's ball. Jumping in choose the the food delivery business so make the case in favor of milk it's four. I as just cuts down on time I guess yeah going to the store. But you still cook. By a Munich cuts down line. I guess looking up arrest the figure it out and also. The idea Tuesday changes to food that you wouldn't necessarily be cooking in your own region. Yeah I think if you morally learn more recipes and learn how to cook and I think it also. Forces you to answer the question of what the hell we emperor dinner tonight. Guess yeah. Again this this falls into the same group as Pallet on to me it's just. It's a a new leads Al product that that requires you put in. Almost as much work is just going to store and buy yourself or sounds like this at my wife. Sweetie sit this if you want Tommy what you want for dinner tonight to stop for five ideas for you to reject. It. I think chuck has a bold prediction by the way on this I think he says that who aprons can be no mourn fighters. Out of business that's interpreted as I say. A bold prediction would be two years I don't misquote him salt triumph and post about British horror piece down on blue apron and the next five years ago lot of people shares are down 63%. Of the last twelve months has not turned a profit that's when it IPO is like earlier this year was a masters. Meet your fours 76 team. So blue apron continuing to struggle to new drug products expensive business you're delivering food Adori got to pack those boxes refrigerate them it's not cheap to do this sort of thing and there's a lot of competition out there. In the article that we're looking at that eight years of growth again so 2008. I can imagine RV sales went off a cliff when oil went to 47 by excess gas and diesel and so. You know fuel prices have they're edging up but there's still not a major inhibitor. To RV growth but. You know you read about these. People who. Wanna be able to live in the air stream and be at hello worker and enjoyable lifestyle. It's. You know I listed Sunday Ratner yeah eyes Taiwan when we went on our honeymoon we stated party for. What's hot and what's trending. The world of finance find out from Barry Armstrong and chuck saga on the financial exchange radio network. We're joined now by Paula Monica from CNN money talking to us about the first trillion dollar company and that would be as we all know apple. Paul's take a look at apple they obviously busted through the trillion dollar market this point beating him is on. The big question on yeah I think my mind in most people's mind though it. You hit this huge benchmark. Where does the company go from here have been plenty of doubters beware of what's the next step for apple. Yeah up at the great question obviously I think that doubters RO won't mean that the fact that. Apple has been eat all issues and channel re these pre sales and profit. Mainly with higher. Prices or via a post were huge. Jump in volume and get people wonder whether or not that's sustainable but you know when you look at apple. Beyond the the ball they're getting from the ire after it right there all of them no more money. From services. Apple's. Acts toward. Apple music scripture and I think that but they on the net sales in iPad bail people aren't doing news is well is that. He got. That apple can make more money. Out. Certainly and then I think that's been my single biggest concern about apple is they seem to be a data be one trick pony I mean most their profits come from my phone sales. And as you mentioned the the increases haven't really been happening in the increases in prices have been about the volume of iPhone purchase doesn't seem to be moving. What are we gonna see from the services sat mean do you think they're gonna roll out some sort of subscription service to get people hooked into a monthly you know monthly payment apple. What can be release. I mean they already have that would abilities they would apple music and yet have full disclosure my wife and I haven't purchased that actual law. Song or album not a while because we have efficiently plan or apple music services like that that I think are powering the revenue and profit going forward work for apple there's speculation about whether or not they're looking something. It light. I've. It. Potentially do the streaming but you know again I mean this joke often before with regard apple. Yes it is a one trick pony but right now that secretary. That's going to be. Tick can turn view with me Furman. So do what what do they you know what are the biggest risk CC to Apple's business report I mean OK I guess to me would be. Out out competition from the other Smartphone makers on on price standpoint. Yeah I think that there are legitimate concerns. A now whether or apple can. You. Have such high act which went there starting now opt out. An emerging market. You know it would be and for the most part. You know don't subsidies from here. Service provider I think indeed be increasingly difficult for apple to rise in emerging market there so. Selling Smart much lower price actuary the apple cachet. Romney. Adds that ballot it is in that. Places in. Latin America other emerging markets where you know. Entered. Dollars. Oh. And not be. You know. Viable economic news now you know isn't even urban America. As you see the trade escalation pick up between the US and China. Trade terrorist pick up. Did you have any concerns about how much business apple does over in China in terms their manufacturing. And their goals to cellphones of their. Yeah I think it's a possibility. That apple could be. You know. Wild casualty of all of these trade tensions is it really may be seen just. How far this goes between the US and China what China looked cute. To retaliate and I think it's important to remember that Amy being that China word of potentially do to hurt. Apple would by extension like the damage Foxconn and other contract manufacturers inch. They're part of why chain so not so actual words that China which goes so far to get the prospects of the company. If they did you know just have to be much longer these trade spat could go on. Appreciate coming on tall that's Paula Monica from CNN money giving us his take on apple going through the first US company to reach the one trillion dollar market bought a great weekend appreciate a lot. Yes so. Like we've mentioned you know. Areas of concern for apple but for all the doubters out there that have you been shorting it for years. Yeah it's the first can be reached trillion dollars so tough to argue with that. Continue with China we have a story that I. Heineken is being re going to be partnering with. China's largest brewer they they've needed three point one billion dollar deal today Africans also already and massive worldwide brewer but it. Seeing some areas in there where they can could be considered the real luxury brand in the Chinese market. China have resources be year. What a great name for company really you know CRV BSE RV but hopefully this'll work out well IE. An opponent who with her eyes wide open does that everybody goes in the Tenet comes back you know we've. Totally happy with how the experience has gone but you know one point three billion people and lie alone for beer rising incomes can conspicuous consumption this is a little bit like you know. Heineken is potentially like the Starbucks of ten minutes. You know if you're doing well in Beijing Shanghai it's awaited kind of enjoyed. The high elective quote Miller but it you know signal that you made it. Yeah as long as they don't start move in the brewing all the Heineken beer of their chipping and over here have no interest in now injuring a beer was brewed in China. Take a look at the markets Dow Jones up 79 point zero point 3% S&P up almost four point zero point 14% NASDAQ down a bit of a mixed market day. Down twelve point zero point 15%. Bonds interest rates about steady right now as the jobs report came as expected that's all the time we have for this week of the financial exchange will be back on Monday have a great weekend everybody.
