This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chunks of you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. He's economy is getting stronger by the day and we have reports out as a relates to. Retail sales that demonstrate that strength we'll talk about it. Oil prices dropping as a matter fact they're down by 2.3 percent today we're talking about why prices are down and who do we have to thank. And then finally. They discussed three reasons that we are not taxing the rich in an effort to save Social Security. Hi everybody it's very truck with you here it's a Monday morning and for general by Utah but that retail sales report that came out losing 30 eastern time they just kind of had. TV on lightly in the background. And a look at this report son of gone the Dayton wasn't so much that the report for the current month it was the were revisions to previous month. Yet the visited the revised numbers that we got for the month of may. Pretty much pushed everything up about half percent answered just for the month of may retail sales up one point 4%. When you strip out cars which tend to be a little bit more volatile and also take up. A bigger chunk there but overall that the numbers for June pretty good as well and when you look at where people are spending more. It isn't places that suggest okay people are actually you know relatively comfortable now motor vehicles and in parts. Up 1%. Board the month and you know this is an area that had been slow when a little video recent months and that was an area that was. Concerning to me because typically auto sales. Are pretty good indicator of where the health of the economy is it's a big purchase to big purchase but it's also very expensive. You look at the average price of cart today compared to ten or fifteen years ago. Yeah your your approach and 40000 bucks. So you yet good numbers there which interesting. Electronic sales actually down point 4% for the month electronic sales only up two point 1% year over year now. At this point. Other things that stood out clothing and accessories down two and a half percent for the month. Up 4% Europe for year that trails the overall six point 6% year over year growth in retail sales. The big story continues to be what we call non store retail and not storytellers. Fancy way of saying. Amazon and everyone else who sell stuff on line and non store retailers up ten point 2% year over year. One point 3% for the month compare that department stores down one point eight for the month. And completely flat Euro freer now how are we spending this money. When wreaked error when wages are not growing it's. The more I look at it the more I've become convinced that we're not measuring wage growth right and the reason why is that all of our statistics on wage growth and things like that not all of them but. The ones that we use of the the monthly government report. There were built in 1950 user B for the gig economy everybody's got a side. It's the the big thing you have to surveys of the household survey which interviews people you have the business one which interviews business as well. If your 1099 and 1099 employee which got 20% of workers are today and you're not necessarily being counted there the way that you were previously and so. If Europe and great years a consultant or Fuhrman agree years knew her driver. Not showing up in wage growth rate and so that the more I look at it the more I think that wage growth probably is a little bit more robust then what we're being reported. And the more I like kind of come around the fact that. We need to get some new statistics I don't think we measured the way the economy is growing as well as we could. How about what I mean I nobody's talking about it but oil today under seventy dollars a barrel it's down a dollar 69 today. I I think this is great news but it's going getting very little media attention well it's. I don't I don't necessarily view this as a good sign no because it. You're seeing a significant amount of volatility in oil ran right years tiger you're seeing one week up five dollars up next week down five dollars in volatility. You know in and around a certain price level is usually a sign that price level is in stable for the long. Now I don't know where you think our biggest risk is more like a big spike in terms of an increase or the big collapse in terms of the decreased. The latter. I've I think the latter is the biggest risk and while it's good for us in the northeast. The last time we saw that there was a huge amount of investment that came out of the US economy you know we're right we're talking tens of billions of dollars of investment. That was pulled from the US economy. In all those places like Texas Pennsylvania cholera all the big jailed apologize to your point you poll our listeners and they would love to see 220 gallon gas and oh good to see cheap heating oil and you know we you know one of the things we came across it's in our stack it we'll talk about it. We paid more for retail electricity than anywhere else in the continent and it's it's. It's just amazing how much more we. It's just because we don't have the pipeline capacity we we are we refuse to build the pipelines and we get all caught up in this not in my backyard crap that. Quite frankly is causing all kinds of problems because now the gas is in no one's backyard we we we can't get here when we need it. So if if we are. Favorably inclined towards these lower energy prices and know you're not that. Who we thank you thank the president for talk about releasing strategic reserves do thank our Saudi friends say they couldn't who's responsible for this price decree. Well we haven't released anything from the strategic reserve and to be quite honest I don't think we should the situation like this is not meant for managing short term price fluctuations it's meant for. Paid an emergency where you can't buy the gas you need to use it so. I don't think we should be tapping it for me of fluctuations. In the saudis of commands and they won't rule were willing to sell a little bit more oil at this point in order to keep the price manageable. And I think what I'm gathering. The US the saudis seem to have kind of this underlying agreement that. Let's try to keep the price in that in the high sixties and I think we can all live with you know somewhere around there is every time it's spikes above seventy. You see these stories you know the US says that saudis near the saudis need to pump more oil and it seems like in that high sixties is where ever one is pretty comfortable. Let's talk about Social Security we haven't done in awhile and we all know that there's not enough money to pay your benefit if you're listening to show collecting Social Security. You've heard the reports in about fifteen years you're gonna receive a letter from the government saying well soaring a boat. Lying to you. But we told you we could pay 2000 dollars a month and we only have enough money to pay 14100. That's about the math doesn't do us 7776%. 76 okay so. I'm Ronnie stage we we promise to 2000 a month we can pay fifth. 800. And pretty much there there's a few different levers that you can pull in order to try to fix the situation number one you can raise the Social Security tax forms they'll look we're gonna bring in more money. Number two you can cut benefits and say hey we're just gonna agree not to pay ever won as much fun. Which happens automatically at this point if if we don't do anything from an option number three is to raise the retirement age. And say hey you know what instead of full retirement age being 67 let's phase in a full retirement age of 68 or 69 over a ten to twenty year peak. She would get a kick out of is 90%. Of American workers. Earn less than a 120000. Bucks a year. Yet neither of vast majority 90% earn less than a 120000 dollars a year. And you could fix Social Security but just saying okay. That seven and a half percent but comes out your paycheck every week to pay Social Security is going to be uncapped so if you're Tom Brady. In your make and twenty million dollar salary if you're. Zdeno char in your make and six million bucks a year who beat whoever you hear the CEO make in ten million bucks a year you're gonna be taxed on that. With a with no cap unity it and that all the sudden that solves the Social Security problem that. To put it in perspective if you work to do that via itself 72%. Of the budget shortfall for Social Security. It is it's the single biggest thing you can do NN all you need to do if you do that you say okay we're not even gonna raise taxes on anyone else because it I know that's not popular. We're not even gonna raise taxes on anyone else raise their tyrant page age but probably one year and you got it beat you raise the retirement age by one year and you get to 85% of the deficit comfort OK in terms of we're just talking a Social Security deficit not the community overall deficit. Many say OK what do we do to make up. The additional 15% what are what are other things that we can look at that would do that if you tightened disability eligibility yeah. You pretty much kept it in 94% covered. Well and you don't have to raise taxes or cut benefits for 90%. Of people so what what is the the they think well why is that 90% so quiet. The very top of the 10% must be very powerful one how often do you hear people talking about it like we just did. Not often you know when's the last time someone said hey look we can solve this problem without cutting benefits or raising taxes for 90% of people see if I was a retiree to. Way I'd be old favorite because you're not working anymore anyway you don't care like my dad would vote for this and heart that the people who that would be worse for the of the people who would be most negatively impacted by this change well or they are people who are making millions of dollars in their 20s30s forties and fifties that are gonna have to pay higher taxes for 2030 or forty years now. If you are on the verge of retirement or already retired doesn't matter now and it literally has no impact on your life in any way shape or form. And we've. We refused to look at this now what do you think ends up happening to your generation's gonna decide this now I think this is what is going to end up happening in in the no cap while it's what when I look at where. Voters my aged typically stand. There's a reason weather cold and Bernie programs like it was a bunch of guys in their view of twenties and thirties that wanted to vote for Bernie Sanders a and I think that that wave at some point. You know break when Social Security becomes a crisis fifteen years from now that's when those people are going to be in their forties and they're gonna say look easy way to solve this is the tax the rich more and at lake that's what that group believes and that's. I don't necessarily think it's all the solution and think it's a perfect solution but I think that's what you're going to see because if you look how would that group tends to vote. That's what they want and there's an option write their form. Should the. Social Security fike attacks the uncapped because that would to trucks points all 74%. Of the short ball. You participate in our poll by visiting our website financial exchange showed dot com. Or you can text us or tech's number 63566. There's one interesting thing that this potentially and does to people is it does create a situation where if you work on capping that yeah it creates a stronger incentive for people retired. In particular wealthier people to retire earlier so just in an interest in side effect. He when we come back or take a look at the World Cup you have the French. Won this tournament. And we're here to talk about a brand new product available for landlords it's called Z deposit dot net Jake. What. Terry we created a security deposit product. To really help the problem a lot of land border facing with security deposits which is. You know one it's time consuming to open the small in security upon number sons now. And yet to go into the branch gets signed paperwork in their small dollars and Andy turn. And it's likely to complaints in Massachusetts really tough for landlords and security deposit accounts. You have to give them ten in certain forms when they open up the count and you have to pay interest a new and we should do all this canal through Z deposit all of that you can do Thursday deposit it literally takes about forty seconds to open up an account. We handled the automatic forms that are generated the account number department commission statement all that since the tenant. And interest descent to tenant automatically every year. This sounds like something it's gonna be very valuable to large landlords it might have 200 tenants and small landlords that might only have five tenths yeah absolutely with a large landlords. It's just a lot of hassle to manage it's that we make dad very efficient. For the small landlords a lot of them are afraid of nineteen complaints done correctly that some of them some of them don't even like taking security deposits were hopeful that this up and do that. Folks if he'd like to learn more about C deposit go to their website Z deposit dot net. Or you can call and speak to somebody on disease deposit team it's 7816418691. The financial exchanges all over New England to go to financial exchange showed dotcom and search for the station closest to you this is the financial exchange radio network. 90% of Americans earn less than a hundred. 28000 dollars a year but Tucker Silva. 56%. Of our audience thinks that the Social Security like attacks should be uncapped meaning 43%. Think it should not be an cap. Feeling a might be 5050 throw poll showed now that's as it did you know at that indicate struck is that a lot of people listening to our show make. More than a 120000 dollars a year it does we do get an interesting. Question from 781 what about small business making 300000 year cost next 25000 year like if you have to hire fewer small business and you have to pay on some of those higher wages. You know you sit there and say gee it's potentially you know preventing us from bringing on additional people. And it's absolutely true. The counterpoint to that is look if you're paying someone north of a 125000. Dollars a year to begin way as you know you're probably in a pretty good spot from a business perspective and a lot of cases. Now the he you know it's the there's a lot of good feedback coming in on the on the tax line some saying you know stop the disability abuse the problem is. The disability abuse and there's a lot of it is is Mike Nichols. In the scheme of things to keep you could. You could really clean up the disability portion of social security and it would still. Make a minor impact yet the terms of that big deficit and biggest problem continues to be it's it's the overall program as a whole the disability peace is a small part of it and you can. You can have an impact there's a great website by the way. And in this is where I'd I pull all these numbers from because it lets you build your own fix for Social Security. And I'm pulling up just don't wanna get that the name of writes I don't send is that everybody has college note it's through the committee for a responsible federal budget ZR FB. Yeah it's called the Social Security reformer if you Google it. Non it will come up but effectively fixing disability. Tightening eligibility for disability and only fixes about 9% of the deficit for Social Security's so it's a relatively small piece. That the single biggest thing that you can do is subject all wages to the payroll tax that fixes north of 70% of the problem. Lot of people it's actually on the text line Lotta people are saying. Don't cap. In his AD that feedback there is they'll kaput but on the website where people vote. If it's a very yeah I'd vote yeah it is it is due is watch the soccer game on Sunday night is not an ended yesterday. Efforts teams. Of that that reference to pages are predators Koresh or bad no like the French team was good like they were good in the other thing that's scary about France is their young. Like arguably. Their second best player is nineteen. And they won this thing my twenty years ago yeah it's the two point anniversary of the ninety team. So it's you know your birdies every country's got to get something big day for France the second World Cup victory ever there's only eight teams that have ever won the World Cup by the way would look at them. Monetary incentive is there because talk about a risk for eat like soccer I I'd love to know. How many good soccer players got injured during this term because they they're not getting paid the plane. It's so would be that what you wind up with the winning team gets 38 million dollars. And who gets that money does not go to the federation the French most federations pay out a big chunk of so they're just really playing for national pride. No no most most federations pay out of big chunk of that to the players. Rights of 38 million dollar but our soccer players they can get this disease they do it's it's drop in the bucket I mean. Is the one thing that you don't have to worry about in this world is a world class soccer players being properly compensated and they are they how they paid relative to say baseball. Football hockey. Basketball. Our soccer because soccer players in the United States and helping me learn to know in in the United States they don't make a ton but if you go through the highest paid players in the world number one is Cristiano Ronaldo from mom Portugal yeah it played for Real Madrid just transferred to U Ventas. He made 33 million dollars last. It's like a basketball player Leo Messi also you know thought of as you know kind of one of the top players in the were actually going on on Sar and might have missed read that. 83 million dollars or 82 including all of his endorsements because all of that day it was that counts you know it's a little bit like LeBron it was me woody side for 35 million so warrior 154 yes so and so on actually have the data so for Ronaldo as an example his salary and bonus was fifty million dollars. And then his endorsements were 35 million dollars. We NL messy plays for Barcelona and also for Argentina what is his salary and bonus was 53 million dollars has endorsement twenty seven's he made eating in Ireland with the tax rates. In Europe and the income tax rates 80% 7% know he'd be effective rates that you wind up paying a probably somewhere around forty you know it's it's it's high. It's again it's it's not slow by any means but I'd still rather keep 60% of eighty million dollars him you know 60% of eight million the only hat thing holding me back use you know. The amazing thing so you go otherwise I'd be right yeah you've. You go from those two guys the next two closest that the next closest number three is on name or whose from Brazil and also plays for Barcelona. 37 million dollars so the runners up got to so France cut 38 million. Croatia got twenty million dollars who came in third Bulgaria are Belgium. And fourth lose. England England so England got 22 million yeah you get it milling just for showing up to the thing. Eight million just to get make their leaders to show up yeah. About American team could even make. Could you just are you prepared neither could the Italian team or the Dutch team and those are far better soccer nations and the United States. Now since the purse. And every tournament Natalia. The and the poll numbers are changing all week is that maybe we didn't explain it properly. 58%. Say don't cap. Social Security think that of a lot during the show Tucker is needed more people vote not to cast of the year are 5050 via and media. It that if you make less than a 120000. Dollars can't imagine why you wouldn't be in favor. Of raising the cap right because otherwise if you make less than a 120000 and they don't raise the cap you're going to be paying him even going to be pain more get less now. Markets are open and price of crude rose touching my attention price crude down more than 2%. The Dow is up eight points and we come backwards talk about why New England residents face so darn much money for electricity that's next. Like there's some FaceBook and follow us on Twitter. Time now for Wall Street watch a look at the market's performance so far today thanks to Barry and jug right here on the financial exchange radio network. It is now time for Wall Street watching Michael Armstrong joins us here to dig in on some of the big. Stories out there Mike let's start first with our tonic this spin off of Alcoa. Don't know them. That's correct savaged by the mosque. Just earlier this year they're starting to attract them by the private body. I expect from him I let it looked to take them products specifically Apollo global management firms. Interest it in the stock. Because this the stock is up 10% just on the Rupert news here. Bank of America up about two and three quarters percent today and other reported earnings this morning I'm assuming good news. Yeah solid news run at one we had that JPMorgan reporting. Law and Friday of last week and now we've got that back Erica they beat by six cents a share corporate profits at that revenue was well votes were cast. Bone growth lower expenses. And obviously the smaller capturing all contributing to these battered Amber's so that's right now the stock up about to its record sent the match. Very good thank you Mike that's Mike Armstrong with Wall Street watched so I've got bad news here. Federal regulators last good or just bad it's just bad just bad does bad IDE federal regulators last week. Cleared the way. To add another dollar per month to New England rate payers to their electric so that you don't and you might take yourself out only dollar. The the reason we are paying this in and this is just the camel's nose is under the tent here. Be heard that before this is going to lead to a lot of future rate increases. Because. The way we did our natural gas is just. It's it's antiquated in it's it's absurd we we bring you in on it shipping container when we should be using a pipeline and frankly. Our our political leaders have not represented just terribly well. So something uninteresting about the state of Massachusetts. Or electricity rates back in 2001. And 2002. Are the same as the national average for electric rates today. So seventeen years ago we are paying whatever when else pays today. Today if you look at the overall national average about ten cents per kilowatt hour when we pan masters to sixteen and a sixteen point 48 cents we'll stay on Massachusetts and New England as I have all lumped in to get Connecticut's at seventeen Rhode Island at sixteen New Hampshire as a fifteen Vermont's of fourteen. It's if it's expensive anywhere even the cheapest state knowing of his main. That's still 28% above the national average it's do we YE NC AI I don't think people clearly understand. Why rates are so dark so the effectively when you look at the the big issues. It's a lack of natural gas pipeline in structure and specifically. Being able to get gas to where it's needed when it is in the public go back how much blame do the people of New Hampshire deserve for this for not allowing the hydrant come down from come back. I think they deserve some obviously notes again I'd I understand why they don't want you know power lines and in stuff coming down through their pimps and again that I understand. But the problem is it doesn't help anyone if you simply if if you choose. Everybody's taken aback that attitude chuck everybody say well. You know they don't want the the power lines coming through the mountains okay well the you know they went in most are somewhere great and they don't want the pipelines coming through West Roxbury where you know whatever might be everybody's got a reason. That it shouldn't be coming through their backyard. And the fact of the matter is. Our business and it frankly just are people are getting strangled. By high electric cost. Let me give you some dollars justices showed just how bad this got this winter you remember that first week in January when it was negative twelve degrees outside you and and you literally had to keep your view of faucets on not dripping but like on to keep them from freezing overnight. If you look at that time period the national average. For natural gas was about three dollars per million BTUs and that's what it costs it's every three dollars three dollars to Britain that range now okay. In New England during that time and this is on Bloomberg we can post the link if we want Dave probably do that. During that same time in New England the spot price for Nat gas because we had so much trouble getting you here because it was so we you know because it was so cold and we need so much break this up the spot price was eighty dollars per million BTUs. That's because of a lack of pipe is I hate hate keep coming back to that yes if it's so apparent. And it begs the question why the heck doesn't. Don't our political leaders understands and get behind visit their screwing the people that. Both Portland and in the problem is really it's you have to get states to work together you know and in a lot of cases we look at the news the concept of OK we've got to substantial say it could be the problem. Pennsylvania or were you look at you know it if you wanna get oil from Pennsylvania up to masters got to go through Connecticut New York where you say okay. Why would Connecticut and rightly so why would Connecticut want to help Massachusetts. Other you know. Masters to all the jobs Nike is they're so Caylee kind of understand they don't want to witness what's the answer these federal regulation it just via the feds come in and say well we don't really care what you want Connecticut. This is what we're going to do. I'd his State's rights is coming back to states is really tough to go that route especially for something like this because. Irrevocable trusts Todd. And one of the concerns that I hear from listeners is that. People are afraid of giving up control to their trust the when they use these durable global trust. Is that in fact a valid concern. It is not a valid concern but that's not a good enough answer let me help you understand why it's not. First and foremost. Their concern is that way because they're not serving as trustee right and they can't if they want the protection. From the nursing however two things they need to remember. One. During their life. 95%. Of the things that need to be done with that trust. Will be done by them so they can still make the investment decisions talked to the financial advisors to make the investment decisions like our house yeah so. So all of this stuff can be done by them. There's only about 5% of the time that we need a lawyer. Or is that not a lawyer the trustee to do anything is a trustee opt in one of the children idiots it is and so that's another good point that it normally it's a child. And the last that the number two reason you don't have to worry is they retain the right to remove and replace the trustee anytime they want. So there really still what the boss that's nice folks if he'd like to learn more about the top misconceptions. Regarding Medicaid durable global trusts. The Daschle letters terrorists the way you what's the preferred service and exit like AT&T is YouTube visit Hulu so it's if if you look at the the true streaming platforms that are out there that are most similar to cable. You've got YouTube TV you've got PlayStation view DirecTV now there's the three biggest I think talk about a TT came out direct direct TV now is promoted so Pia because they're owned by AT&T. So those are the biggest ones that are out there right now. I've had PlayStation view for the last year I've been really happy with the overall service. The price on mine has increased. And so it's gone from being 35 a month up to 45 months now. I'm still keeping it is still a heck of a lot cheaper than. New cable on be a multiple TVs because I've got three TVs hooked up to this. And for cable you know it would it would be not supported that would be to try to you know paying a couple hundred bucks yet all in even with my not my fire was coming in at 45 now ninety box all so what if you. Are somewhere else and you wanna like see your. I don't know view your your air being being it and all they have is in her. Serve PlayStation views not really built for. But I'd like each one of these packages has things as missing that you two TV does it have the NFL. Network and you know I believe that the news. That's the eight V you know training camp Star Trek next week and next week knots now. Does that NFL network let's see what's that little too. To the no it does not look like it does have NFL network but. That really the only thing he missed the Thursday night games and is usually pretty crappy to begin Louis I just like the the the pre game and the news. They do better job. Yeah a great you know it's actually a phenomenal network is the MLB network and early if I know no one likes baseball and approach it like it honestly like that is the people that they have on there in the the programs they do are phenomenal lake if your baseball fan it is better than. Anything else out there in it's rare is a lot of the like. NBA network is kind math and FL network at views can and there's not an NHL one think is there Nara concern answer or it's not as good as you know though is there but it and in nova. Going back to our poll question I'm starting human parliament will fit and finish the hour with a review of our poll. 90% of Americans earn less than a 120000. Dollars a year those are just the numbers. And yet we cap the Social Security tax at a 120000. Dollars a year if you look your paycheck. In your making a 150 grand a year about November you don't have to pay that 7%. Like attacks anymore. And some people think that that like a tax should be uncapped why well it would pay the vast majority of the shortfall of Social Security as you know. So Social Security only has enough money to pay out promised benefits until the year 2033. And tapping the spike attacks would basically. Do away with that problem. 10% of the population would have to pay a lot more in terms taxes that the amount they would have to pay is a lot pretty big chunks. Let's first talk about the differences between load in no load funds what to those terms actually mean. Yes when you talk about a load you're talking about compensating someone for the sale of back mutual fund. There are a lot of different options when it comes to these but. Typically the most common is just an up front load that you and paint the advisors so if you put 101000 dollars in to a mutual fund that. Mutual fund may charge you 45%. Expand gets paid to the eyes. In a no load fund you don't necessarily have that upfront fee but you still do not operating expenses each year just because the fund has paid to poisoned so force you do Syria let's say just go to fidelity dot com and pick up one of their mutual funds. You might not be compensating. In advisor sales person for recommending that the island but fidelity has their expenses that they are running in the air still charging new. It's all detailed and expense ratio that you every year what is it typical expense ratio on a mutual fund these days I would really hesitate to give a typical because they vary so much NC funds as low as. The economy is getting markedly stronger and we have evidence to that effect we'll share it with you in a moment. The price of oil is going down like a lot of us wanted to know. Why is it going idea with 2.3 percent decrease in the price of oil just in today's trading. And then finally we'll have a brief discussion as a relates to Social Security hi everybody it's Berrian truck with you here it's a Monday morning inside of a gun. Retail sales pretty darn strong. Yeah good numbers four these retail sales numbers here and in particular. The big thing that we continue to see is very strong growth in what's called non store retailers they're now up 10% year over year. In non story is eight a fancy way of saying hey Amazon and anything on the line India is absolutely humming right now I'm just continuing to chug along. The place that continue to struggle department stores down one point 8% for the month and completely flat year old three year despite overall retail sales being up six point 6% Euro free. And price of boiled down and with the dollar 69 today that. That's a meaningful decrease as we got despise what about 75 a barrel for oil yet we get around 75 actually I see the price of oil now down to 59 a barrel today down three point 6% and 6842. Right now. Now you're not gonna see an immediate decrease at the pump guy I'd say. If we hold that sixty dollar handle you're probably looking. And as they say I don't think you'll see decreased to be honest now. In in a lot lately in a market August you are in a market this volatile you know I don't think you'll see a decrease because when you are pure gas station. What you have to what you're buying effectively is that next fill up your your buying the next tank you need to buy. Yeah if you don't know what are we don't know what the price is going to be too volatile yes I think it's it's too up and down of a market right now for a gas station to say we can cut the price because. You need to be able to pay for that next delivery Amazon prime day begins today at 3 PM eastern time Tucker sold is waiting with bated breath. I'm not yet I've got to tell you hide in previous. Years I haven't done a lot of shopping just nothing that I felt like I needed. But they're saying that it's gonna cost more. To have things shipped this year thirty got anything on your wish list. Not really have really dove into deals so far just because starts at 3 PM but I'm going to be hitting refresh it frequently tonight and I. Amazon app Amazon is expecting to surpass north of three billion dollars in sales and so looking for a big big number there in the big reason why it's going to be more expense for Amazon ship things this year. Fuel prices are way. You know it's you see diesel fuel all of that we live percent year over year gas prices up 30% year over year. And so as a result it you know transportation any kind of delivery becomes more expensive do you think they made that up with a twenty dollar increase in their membership they know. I think I think they've made it is much they thought they could I bet if they wanted to if the BO had their their perfect world I'd that they would have wanted to raise higher. What are what they do with that that's something they view as they had things to their video library in their music library in more products. I mean he already command 49 point 1% and e-commerce sales which is just mind Bob I just think about that folks. It was one company. Commands 49%. Of the market imagine if one bank. Had 49%. Of all the deposits if one auto maker had 49% of all the auto sales if if any eat like. If any one industry was dominated late Amazon is dominating online sales they'd be broken up. The interesting thing about Amazon. I think they have pricing power and they're not even using I agree. You know again I think if they wanted to they could be wait now it might be they're not using it because they say look weaknesses how we can you stay away from regulation and things like that is to not you know do what most monopolies would do. But I think their pricing like if if Amazon and note Tucker said that if they raise Amazon prime higher he'd cancel. But I think for a lot of folks what you make it's if they raise 2150. I don't think anyone that's not like some people do but I think it's on the margins let's look at the top ten. Online sale companies Amazon at 49 point 1%. EBay at six point 6% but you know so the number two online retail companies a company that doesn't actually sell new stuff but just old crap that no one wants and got into a lot of my wife shops on. She my dad doesn't for Christmas you can find all kinds of cool stuff from like the sixties and seventies silly for all of his friends and family are you he buys like all of his vintage stuff on there it's also. Apple's third at three point 9% what is what is Apple's. Phones and computers and stuff that's it via your blood. Wal-Mart is behind apple pay like Wal-Mart it that's the number two actual retailer pathetic. Is behind eBay and apple. Wal mart's just. See that there and you can't blame the current management of Wal-Mart you have to blame the management of fifteen years ago the pro dead and the ID like they did a terrible job. It just terrible. As I ever reversed this thinking tenure 1015 years ago where are you guys like waking up. In the problem is when you play catch up it's always more expensive that young and a premium minority net debt that's why they're buying up all the easy commerce companies. And I think they'll get their just because they're so big. It's it's it's really a slog for the town who at Home Depot one and a half percent best buy one point 3% QVC Macy's Costco we fair. Mean they're not. Compared to ams don't know it's eats it's a drop in the bucket in the broad scheme of things and and what's scary and is that it's not like Amazon's hold his weakening. No he they think that's that's what bothers me a little bit track is if it gets so darn easy and it's so habitual. That you just Agassi which when my wife says were out of something. I don't think all gonna go to jet dot com I just go to Amazon and look for work as I've ordered it before nine. And it's there in two days that's that's a problem it and now they're getting into the grocery Texas. I mean it then it's. It it it gets to appoint you really wonder how much longer the government can go long without him it's news in the grocery thinks. Mom my wife's at a town this week Ahmad kind of get the whole house to myself on an Obama so I was trying to make your way I was trying to figure out what to do for groceries. I punted because I thought about going to whole foods and in in doing you know trying to deliver it but then I said. I'll just go through the freezer and of a constant hot dogs are pretty much you know you can you can do hot dogs every night when it's just you. Well. At any rate I. Just a quick programming update here I got in touch with ideal guide Mac granite peak you'll be joining us next at eleven point oh look at the cats or run through all the private deals are so I'm not gonna do it now but I will come back to our poll question I think this is really important I I think the American public is getting snookered here. And I'll put the poll question out. It's. If it should the Social Security fike attacks be uncapped. Now to put this in perspective and just to give you some. Basis for that poll question. 90%. Of Americans earn less than a 128000. Dollars a year in salary in earnings 120000 dollars. And the tax is capped at a 120000. Dollars mean. Tom Brady who makes twenty million dollars a year in salary for playing football and Zdeno Chara who makes five million dollars a year. Playing hockey. They only get taxed our Micah up 228000. Dollars. If you uncapped that he said Tom Brady. Sorry you're gonna pay spike attacks on the entire twenty million. Well it would solve the Social Security shortfall because as you know. In about fifteen years there's not going to be enough money in Social Security to pay used the benefits you. Are entitled to once you were promised. Five years ago ten years ago twenty years ago. The money runs out in the year 2033. Wide is it run out. Variety of reasons but. If the uncapped the bike attacks. Virtually that that problem goes away for a long long time. And that is our poll question today should the Social Security spike attacks be untapped. Sixty point 6%. Or audience. No downed 55%. Sorry 55% of our audience thinks it should be and cat 44%. Think it should be. Capped an end and the reason is our audience tends to make a lot of money we have a lot of highly paid professionals that don't wanna see. There earnings taxed up to 250300. I think about it your doctor right. Your doctor Macon 400000 bucks a year yeah. All the sudden your taxes go up with seven and a half percent. 270000. Bucks to earn about. It's 151060. Actually know more about 18191000. So docs are going to be happy lawyers not going to be happy. Joining us now on the line is probably my favorite interview every year grow really every six months. That's Matt granted he is the deal guy from Amazon talk about Amazon prime day and Matt thank you for joining us. But I don't. They're like a cross between crypt there at the news here. All that Peter. Matt so let's let's start first with Canada that the big items that everyone wants when we're talking about you know a deal day. Everyone wants snow okay what what are what are we have for electronics TV's you know things like that. What kind of deals out there for prime members today. It one Ed do you incredible. Really anger Amazon I quote my vote so Graham from one of their hosts and their items that they would like it's a decline in the the other that I'm going to buy you. OK so yup it's let's start for our guys feel about unemployment and that this then not. I is a good place that lets start there what what what should we not buy right now. I'd be open gate problem I view that the welt am. But one. Day. RB echo ought and I'm a huge fan support you and tobacco products. But it over the course of the year. But it reduced on others they bother every. That aspire to reduce backed the war. So I think it would be our. Or that interest to start our tackle about okay. Absolutely no problem on that and what order this fifty inch TV they'll I'm looking at fifty inch TV. 389. Dollars at an all leave able. Like what you on Black Friday. You'll see the store that walk for the so called door buster he'll wind up. The lightning guilt and they're very similar one in the world is trying to buy them either oh really make program opt out your ballot back in you'd at a much higher price. We see on try day and that's one of the things that you are going to be. Negated by many awkward are we got it beautiful and we need them they're up by a lot you get excited by. The back field a little bit upset actually on Sunday. Well what do I am aware that all of the little things that happened on why the public where the products are all. I ranked as we don't feel like the list. And now an item. Amid talk that he was going through what the most popular right on the marketplace. What are absolutely fantastic better but I found over that are purchased the ball right now. Include things like a global. Very at a vulnerable back technology and the wearable bought music retail up by litter box there. One meeting not like now what you can actually buy them what I'd do it again. And 600 dollar lapped up for all the fingerprint reader. Reuniting not actually available right now. But you mentioned that the the echo products or something to stay away from. It is there anything else out there that you really say and not so much or is everything else pretty much open season in your mind. But Amidon on trying to especially. The platform. Failed a lot of people. On. Act I think you're aware that if they fail. And a lot of people realize it or not we read in in the prices they create guilt Asian they reduced prices on their own stock. But network of 100000 merchants that are creating their own big deal so people well happily it got another deal. They'll know the person whatever people. We're actually looking at a specific merchant so what I would abort it completely. For any calls it a matter what our it would have on the perimeter or the work themselves. Do you recall opened in bundles a 100% of the line or better for the Black Friday. There well there's it you'd need that back up the big mistake there and down and much better deal in the basically a Black Friday. If you are looking at the end but it let. A lot of people aren't nearly as he would do at that spot by the best field we ever you know we've been out there actually. Not trust offers they're not back yard the current. Or another and I bought a lot of the best ship. Mercy. Actually put the test by a couple of shots on TV there is down from. Like ninety dollars to when he or dollars and 99 cent. Those are the conventional item I would be walking toward them and not getting distracted by the. Matt we're now about a year into the Amazon a whole foods integration is there any kind of are there any kind of deals that are happening with regards the whole foods for prime day as well. And that basically at the Arctic just from buying any thing what you get a dollar coupon on dock on the pick he beat a dollar touched. At Berkeley in locations. Be cross promotion very interesting because the echo product at the law. Yeah field aren't made you weren't a market for echo will still below record of the year on and on a show audit dot whenever you want. I just what it still pressured and make those we're now on the market strapped for cash. Those look up later but all with a heavily pushing tackle audit. In fact what are they at the same but is he alliance will be available all the stores in terms of the gross delivery service and cross motion it was a lot of its own brand. So what some people don't realize they make furniture now they're designing different. Those of the lines that will not that is out and about gonna why they're that you are awareness campaign for its war. Good that we appreciate the time let's get back to look at all the deals and we'll catch up with you as we head towards big Christmas shopping season. Yeah citizen does it resonate to. Thank you Matt granted the deal guy from Amazon talking about Amazon prime day. If you need a TV I attacked. A fifty inch tee and a blown away but it's 289. Dollars voice yeah I mean match or said that there's not going to be a lot attack available for prime day. But that these are no better deals are gonna be a Black Friday but he also I think is suggesting. That you may not actually be to get back to she teed. Right in you say that we'll give B slate V yeah I'm looking at it right now on and and I wanna be be buying it but I pro it'll be yet. Lisa there's there's a limited number on those lightning deals there's only so many so if you're not moving quickly and if you're not one of the first people in line in order to get that there it very much is light Black Friday and that you might not end up getting him. Now I've got by yet at that TV by the way that you mention there it is if you want talk about just how strange this world is that we live in now. That TV you know look at the deceive a fifty inch for rail truck. Look at the cell. There's a best buy death. So very hard but I he's selling by discounting the TV on Amazon while. I think I don't know I guess three out with an injury a man. I think the prime minister if you're gonna see a lot more every day essentials manual are what Matt said detective mystery of the gaming consoles that are you know the TVs and I don't like that you're gonna see you. Like he said kitchen where bed sheets you know everyday essentials. More so on prime day this year that's Iran expelled and I agree to keep an eye out. President trump met with. And Michael Lotta times people look at the sales load they Payer they look at the expense ratio on a fund. But they don't realize there are other expenses built into a fund what kind of expenses do we see in addition to the once people know well. The biggest one that usually gets left out is something around the trading costs of mutual funds. And a few years ago the SEC pretty much came out and told the mutual fund companies that because these costs are so complicated. To calculate. They are not action required to disclose them in the operating expenses so if you look at a fund that trades a lot. And by that I mean turning over the portfolio maybe a hundred or 200% a year. Those costs can be significant. Are there any types of funds that typically have lower turn over rates of that don't trade is much so that you can get a better deal absolutely I mean when you look at. Basics of trading how much 100 vs another. Usually an index fund trades a lot less than an actively managed mutual funds are for instance you can buy an index fund. That just replicate the S&P 500 that's gonna have a lot less turnover than an actively managed large cap mutual fund in case it's. Folks beyond just the headline numbers there are other expenses associated with owning mutual funds and they are strong advisory group has put together a guy on these expenses. So guys have a decision to make. Movie Tom movie time movie Monday movie Monday that I a mate really my decision comes down to babysitting verses. Movies. The movies that are out right now are not good about him so if you're not a good basis instead. Meaning. An analyst you go to framing camera and receive training L it doesn't look like much like the rock let it looks like a rock leaning. Which is unusual. Yeah he normally knocks it out of the park ultimately about wonderment people getting a little tired of Barack Joseph Johnson now. I don't know I don't know this to be fair this movie just looked terrible yeah I mean this release no plot. You know why did he sign on to make it. Money. On board but you a lot of times these guys signed contracts to me but to even though here's something interesting to be fair. The rocks had a couple flops in the last year and a half now he had Baywatch last year that only to fifty. And yet Rampage earlier this year did did the didn't cross hunter mountain skyscrapers knock him across a hundred and so you know there is the times where he was kind of in July easel and ice on me yet that it 400 million dollars though he wasn't that good. Just between the three of us when it was figure the target audience necessarily rule you know it's a kids movie viewing sites its most that before yeah. Still I hit it is my favorite flick was super troopers to now that's about it theaters yet I would babysit tonight I set the iPad I think is obviously like they. That realm. Our website address is financial exchange showed a com should you care to participate. Congress is considering a deal. To make gym memberships and fitness classes tax deductible. And anybody else who who's going to be old I think is owed. I think it's a waste. Via I think it's a waste is all this does that about in order to actually. Gets you know. I don't know what's the return like richter in shape late in order in order like get myself in good shape. You don't meet an expensive gym members died. Who I know I pay a hundred bucks a month. That's a hundred. I face I at us from Michael assuming they AKE date that night I. At my advanced age required mr. and so my deal suit that I pay ten dollars a month and they get that full cost reimbursed by health insurance if I pay nothing. Four any of the for for my gym. I don't know why you need to subsidize. Gym memberships in fitness classes gate you know. You'd literally you want to encourage that behavior but let it take a look around the sidewalk around shopping mall. And looking at how many unfit people UC. But how much of that is because people don't have the money for gym membership first people just won't go anyways when they get what is I have the money is I don't I don't it and that's the thing I go to the gym starting in January 1 where I see those crowds that come in January through I think in doubt now usually here's the thing it's it's it's usually right after Valentine's Day either hate everyone got dumped at the same time war people all whose motivation after six weeks and they're still paying for it whoever candidate saying even like middle of January that people stop it pins are quickly like that first big snowstorm where it's Lego boy a year ago. I just I don't think you need to be subsidizing gym memberships of the problem is that were backed. Giving people more money is gonna make them fat with more money you know and money. That might not the problem like walking free now. I just offered jogged in the beautiful autumn weather now you know I'm thrilled by a 2000 dollar bike that has all these spin class is going out and actually bite I did that now you bought a it's been like now about Blake and Adam is that the is there a difference between us I don't like Scott a normal bike yes like they get in it would as a spin by can I can normal stationary bike. Alive and telethon is the big thing yeah see a lot of different things like to point 500. Today you pay an image we see. On top and pay a monthly fee but people love it I've gotten out that they swear by passwords because he used to goodness you know expense of spin classes are better. They're pretty pricey air expense my dad gave me his old bike for free. And it hasn't cost me a dime our going right and on the roads in history. In a tight labor market retirees fill gaps their previous employer cannot you know this is going to be the future of working number I think people are gonna retire. And say gee if I go back to mild loss they'll pay me sixty bucks an hour to do my old job and only have to work two days. Yeah you're seeing this too because it was the labor market this tight right now. Company's lead to pet regardless of what industry you're talking about. Oftentimes they can't find new help once experienced help leaves and so what they say is look you can have your old job back we'll pay you more in order to do anything collector pro your social security and you can collector pent GB make him more money in retirement and can work on kind of the schedule that you want just his wont work around you can as we need the help and so. It's actually a really good opportunity if you are somewhat in in your sixties right now and you've retired in the last year to your skills are still fresh still. You know kind of itching to do something but not necessarily full time. Technical report at least if you like the. Specially nurses nurses can you know the there's just an exam of a woman working in month fury hospital in the Bronx. And she was she pulled 212 hour shifts she's collecting a pension. At issue isn't eligible for Social Security yet but you still make in the sixty bucks an hour as a nurse. Yeah I mean EC this a lot in with construction as well now it's it's. Hope for in construction in some cases because your body just can't handle it you see that with nurses to sort times I mean what else are they ever need a whole lot to. But. You see it in a lot of these industries just where. The the young workers are not readily available in the numbers that companies need. And so Lotta times employer might even go back to you after you retired and say. Hey do you mind coming back just a contractor and and you might get a pretty good deal. So I mean obviously we've got this has got to you know this is the the big daddy of the F 150s and that you've got you know big 440. Pound feet of torque in this engine. How's this thing actually handle when you haven't on the road. You know what I really like about that 150 and that did in the cart most of their incidents might need you now have a it. The boat is a little crazy but it's. Odd about it. And yeah you and eat that it would. But at each jumping around and there in the right here and it really doesn't it's really good at electing the right here for what ever it. Mark is whether that means that it at you. Down yet and yet not a couple Beers or get out a couple years. I like the way that the U are made up there. Out. Knock it out of work are still ride like it's not you'll. You feel a lot about underground it's a little upload you liar while you're writing about a highway but I art. One of my favorite are on our. And in what you're talking about this engine obviously than the big thing that comes with that is that torque so if if you're someone who's going to be hauling things around whether it's for worker play whatever it is how does this truck do when your hauling something behind it. Yes no it can broad under configuration. 80. Let four elm. I'm a white. I. Ill prepared and act there you know. There it how hard. At everything intact. And I really liked about it while I wrote in their. Appeared someone that well I got a little bit of our back up the trailer. That your what you kind of act but. At the right up at the lat and that a little weird way to make it is that in your mind. And portrait at all allayed by. Op on the back. Real if you want the anecdote of the bright little pop right. I'm learning curve but. That's partly a backpack that there's really it. If you're not vary. About pat. In terms of our fuel economy obviously most people don't buy a pick up truck in order to obvious fuel efficient as possible. But what do you get in terms of fuel economy with this engine choice. Yet know if you're not like you you'll get a EP. When he I combined and or buy or. When he combined. Now there might read what are I have for. It and about one he and I you have every right. Your mileage may vary. But every hour are the pretty much about Iraq now there. Are area. Ramp at 800 does come with a goal and it eat those numbers but ran up and coming up with a mild hybrid with them and we don't have a number on that yet but that it brings back yet. What about hybrid up the board at a note. You don't wanna act right or you'll it's rampant about hybrid might be. Amanda that the the F 150 in general isn't cheap these days what's it cost when it's outfitted with a diesel option that you discussed here. You can only get it with. That they bury it is gonna be about 41000 dollars. If you know a part 45 out I. About Alex and when you add in all of the options that people normally do at the track that I drove for the week was about. 3000. Plus tanks now well wolf that's not cheap and me we appreciate you joining us thanks for the time today but we've got to get out. That is Amy hall from CNET roach or talk about the 2018. Ford F 150 diesel. Not cheap but sounds like heck the troughs of 63. Plus the tax year at 68. And then your excise tax each year. To diesel so it's gonna last long time. They'll last a while you know with the the fuel economy is is good for a truck you know an era where they argued twenty carload of mid twenties for truck is you know that that's good mileage on something like that. You know I usually contain no bucket buying used vehicles. I've my son just bought a Toyota Sienna. Minivan though Diddy is like in the forties brand new have we gotten low twenties and in his had I think 3540000. Miles nearly that's. You go to save money. Look at buying in a modestly used car you sit down fortune Alia on the same thing with the truck right. I think. Sometimes more just because there are some more aware internal cases. The Dow is up eight points I'm looking at the price of oil son of a gun price of boils down to 52 barrel that's really good news in my estimation.
