This is the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chunks of you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. Who is Brent Cavanaugh a break haven't gone as shown deep skepticism. Of the regulatory state what you need to know. About Trump's Supreme Court nominee for Cavanaugh hi everybody it's very in John Moody with you here. And we hit play and to do the entire first segment on brick Cavanaugh. But we did schedule report and some of the guy and yet in the lift after a summit and it. Yeah a job opening and labor turnover survey it's one of our all time favorites. It's the number of jobs out there that are open and unfiltered. It hit an all time high of six point eight million back in April. It dropped down a little bit to use six point 63 million but that's kind of a rounding error compared with six point eight what do you think it maybe a few companies to several we can't find anybody so ticked on the others it could be down I think there's anecdotally some evidence even more than me anecdotally statistically evidence that. Their people now re engaging with the workforce. You know that the increase the optic and had the unemployment rate was actually good news you know because it showed that a lot of people are now trying to get a job council Lotta people would kind of on the sidelines for a long time for years. Finally give everything you know at a might be worth getting that job and it's it's open and B it pays more money and it's my like to do something like to do so. You know maybe that explains a little bit of that drop off still six point 63 million jobs open and unfilled. That's an amazingly high numbers which is about equal to the number of people convert. Ironically yet you take all the people who don't have a job whether they'll looking or not. We now have a job for all of them in theory if they were trained. Adequately to take the job while the steal this and that was the problem the at somebody who's a welder in Boston. And there's no need for welders in Boston but there's a need for a lot of them in Kansas City absolutely and the skills mismatch is the number one issue going forward. Bottom line is the right now there are as many jobs as there are people. What do you think labor participation picks up that rate you know is that they the I hear you sing in terms of in many jobs out there. And people are coming back in in the re engaging. But labor participation used to run 6566%. Now were the worst scratch and 63 we don't seem to be able to move the dime we've talked about this ad nauseam and I just don't think there's anyone silver bullet answer your question there's just so many. Issues that affect an issue here at number one as I I think as as people get older. And become retired that number's gonna slightly improved because there's a lot of people who work. Very difficult to employees before they turn 65. We talked about that before. They might not have the skills payment I have the health a combination of factors as they retire I think that's gonna help a little bit we think about like a 64 year old electrician yeah. Exhibit 63 year old plumber. 62 year old I mean those are physical physical jobs once you turn sixty if you do physical job. It becomes dangers can be EP WS guys if you look at them on some of my friends are in the trades and your 5055. Their bodies are breaking out. In and once they turn sixty yup it becomes a social life threatening activity so. There's that factor I think the biggest concern you mention this before I completely agree. Is the number of people who were millennial age who were not engaged in the work force. Why that is I don't know there's a number of reasons. The only CD just to the study talking about trying to find out why we're marketing wage growth. And that's a echoes encounter with were talking about. They're number one conclusion was technology and they believe the technology so much for body. Like if you're an employer. You know if you did what you did. Fifteen years ago who have a need for fewer people. And the people you have a more in competition with other people technology has taken a big bite out of income taken a big by those jobs it's changed the nature of the workforce so many ways take a look at warehoused. Exactly the going to Amazon warehouse that me at 5000 employees. Before robotics. Now might be count to three still play a lot of people but many if you're you know this dovetails into our discussion of the Supreme Court yes. Because. If the end of the day what this means from our perspective as a business show is what does this mean for financial markets what does this mean for the economy. In terms of the Supreme Court one of the biggest issues are gonna deal with is what you just referenced. The matter of capital. Vs labor. In the extent to which government should interfere or get in Baltimore take an active role in helping labor. Or protecting capital the two conflicts and tunnels layups and right now. Assuming Brett capital markets approved fairly safe assumption I I haven't looked at the odds yet but I'm guessing. 7080% chance of confirmation if not. I think it's a matter almost weathered the time is the issue rather than the ultimate verdict day you'd think it would have already found the smoking gun if there was one well. I predicted Bret capital would be the nominee in part because I think is the Susan Collins choice and the reason I said none of the Susan Collins would choose them don't get me wrong then. It's just that on the controversial issue of abortion which the Democrats are going to make. An issue here because frankly it's with a few cards that can play break. Cabinet position is it's established law. He is a long history because he's been outspoken he's written a number of things. Spokesman for the conservative cause bought. There's no history in his rulings that would indicate. He's gonna change too well that's one of the criticisms of him by conservatives correct. So that's why I think that this is that not only a very good choice and but probably a safe choice and good for business. And that's what matters to us it comes down to. The whole issue of protecting the rights of Capital One vs protecting the rights of workers. And the times when they economy. And from an investor's perspective. I'm not saying it's good or bad but it's a pro markets pro economy pro business. Court now anti union. You can say that I'm not gonna go that far but it certainly is less pro union. Then the court that we've had right. And from an investor's standpoint that as a positive I'm not saying it's a good or bad but from investment perspective. The market's behavior yesterday in the market today be today is not irrational. Rate no light I tend to agree if you Malia. He will we're gonna learn a lot more about upper cabin in the coming weeks. I use oppressive I did you watch is I did not mean he was introduced last night by the president 53 year old to young children to be a serve thirty years. At least maybe longer he stays healthy and ends early fifties. You know two young daughters. Married. A President Bush appointment right which is little bit controversial there's a lot of history here for them to pick at. Which we will happen. In the confirmation hearings. Long a super I'm talking about a Robert Bork here. He has somebody and it's so far that you know in the block their of the votes. I just I I think it's gonna be very difficult. Appointment to block and I think that was the number one that's what I've heard so far and publishers to hear your perch yet there's there's not a lot there and others there's a lot of record to attack. I just think if he's widely respected among. Liberals and conservatives. As an excellent such. A good a good parent couples who spend more on their weddings are more likely to get divorced this according to a study that was done. By venture shrinks. 3000 married people though that they covered Tucker so you because you're the most. Recently married person in the room. You are going to be the bear the brunt of our discussion. The first thing was that a more admiring it's pretty cheap wedding the wedding in his statements if you spend more than 2000 dollars got to cause your wedding ring. You are one point three times greater hazard of divorce compared to those of us who spent between 500 dollars in 2000. Well I get a cheaper and gave me too and I've been married for since 1988. Yeah that's what twelve almost 3030 yeah I mean 855. And are right so it should bring to it that straight talker did you come through the cheaper Alia the security actually there are so. Hello I missed up into this spineless weddings that cost less than a thousand dollars show significant decrease in the likelihood of divorce. And weddings costing more. Tucker. Then 20000 dollars increasing the likelihood by one point six Tynes. As a sample of women I think this study bogus. Series out it just that's important. You are actually think there's something 2000. I think one of the keys to long happy marriage is modest expectations. If you'd like to have a Saudi soldier way of. I think. And I delivered just a I promise to be mediocre. I am direct honest guy for mediocrity and a clear that bars slightly now I. I just think to some extent the people who spend a fortune on these clinics. Are expecting. A prince or princess for. If they have very unrealistically high expectations of what matters is all about what to expect the partner and again I'm not saying you know be. Not labor market to really block you know winning. It does all quickly. I I went to one this is immune to marriage the in the 1980s Tucker I think I think it was BB ED seven ED eight. We attended. An Italian. Which there's no better argument about gee gees and I'd let's best weddings on the plane yup all right time now tied for the and the one. Everything was the top in in the eighties he spent a 100000. Dollars which is a lot of Florida and when he was dissolved within the bears was what's her in knowing DB's. Unbelievable game and just back after ninety days it was well that's Curry's. Hope. Reporting that one's partners looks were important in the decision to merry is significantly. Associated. With shorter Mary duration. Because guess what it doesn't laugh that's for sure that's. I think he's well I bring that out of my wedding pages like. Pretty good look at where backed and so this study is saying to Mary cheap but Mary ugly so yes. A high or or or don't bear some because just for looks area because books you know. They changed their temporary you know you look great now. Talk to read our John and I cut back thirty years in our wheelchairs. And and and see how you do it in thirty years yet. I just thinks a lot of these ridiculously expensive things involve people who have unrealistic expectations in many ways. Our poll question today is did you spend more than 20000. Dollars on your wedding because if you did you get divorced. Sorry it just statistically here what it's six times as likely to get divorced he spent a lot of money annually. You can participate in our poll by visiting our website by mutual exchange showed dot com. Or you can text 63566. Is our text number when we come back will be talking about homeowners sitting on. And we're here to talk about a brand new product available for landlords it's called Z deposit dot net Jake. What. Barry we created a security deposit product to really help the problem a lot of blame border facing with security deposits which is. You know one it's time consuming to open the small enough security upon number sons. And yet to go into the bridge yes signed paperwork and their small dollars and in the turn. And it's likely to complaints in Massachusetts really tough for landlord and security deposit accounts. You have to give them ten in certain forms when they open up the count and you have to pay interest a new and we should do all this canal through Z deposit all of that you can do Thursday deposit it literally takes about forty seconds to open up an account. We handled the automatic forms that are generated the account number department commission statement all that said lieutenant. And the interest descent of the tenant. Automatically every year. This sounds like something it's going to be very valuable to large landlords it might have 200 tenants. And small landlords and might only have five tenths yeah absolutely with a large landlords. It's just a lot of hassle to managed so we make dad very efficient for the small landlords a lot of them are afraid of nineteen complaints done correctly so some of them. Some of them don't even like taking security deposits were hopeful that this will help them do that. Folks if he'd like to learn more about C deposit go to their website Z deposit dot net. MA dot com easy does it pass license number ones are one. Homeowners sitting on a record amount of cash. You know in the old days sushi had a little bit of equity. In your homes had to go out refinance under get a home equity line credit Bible or go to Aruba or something dumb like that. Bear does not do that anymore not as much in you know one side board that there's a real wealth effect going on here it in the old days. We talked about how much your house went up now determined while the fact. Right when your house is gone up you felt rich but it wasn't even feel re twelve we've talked well about the stock market wealth effect which is obviously huge because of war one case. We forget that how is still important you know when the value your house goes up you start feeling pretty good start doing wealthier. Unfortunately many of us look at the property tax bill thank you could think of all I. More reason to get more money evidently we bought you know the thing is like if you get modest increases in the value a real estate in general is gonna go up. I tell people expect your home to go up and you two to 3% who were over a long term you'll have years like the last year were up eleven. People in Derry New Hampshire say it's not Iran if a tally you look at the value of a house over fifty year record time. And yet two to 3% on average per year right that you're you're gonna keep up with the inflation that if your paint on your mortgage. You're usually when you could be you could be talking about on half a million dollar hole. A 5% spread every year and remember that two to 3% and the reason why it feels like it's more. Is when your leverage to ten to one you put 10% down that 2% 20% so you're building equity to much faster rate than two to 3% but the property itself is going up to 3%. Bottom line this year in this is that a significant number. Any B average homeowner with a mortgage isn't. Got 141700. Dollars of new equity last year that's a real well because of appreciation because of appreciation. So your 141700. Dollars wealthier in your home in terms of equity. That average person this number to meet jumped out has a 113 1900. Dollars of a deal ability to draw. They can tap a 1141000. Dollars. That they're not yet drawing how does that change in the tax law impact this because in the old days right. You'd be able to take that 200000 or home equity line of credit he could buy another house boat and keep deduct the interest in that. Only for limited ways and he would do it for things like home improvement you can't do for things. Are you do it on your primary residency and give your borrowing ability to improve the bathroom where you live. Vigna you can deduct it but you know most he walked money. He was used for things other than you know used her and I saw guys like cars boats vacations. You know some dumb acquisitions in my opinion yes I I think your way the lack of deductibility is a good thing because you shouldn't be doing it because it's the doctor I know you're here you're sucking money right out of your house. And your putting yourself at risk because if you don't make the payment you'll lose the house one thing that is concerning to me buried at his that we are in related to this. We start very recently to see a surge in old fashioned cash out refinancing. And boy do I think that's a big mistake because what's happening here is think about it people are giving up. Their advantaged low interest mortgage. Three and a half percent right to say OK I'm willing to walk away from that. I'm willing to refinance at today's higher rate a way to take money out. And extend the term that I'm I'm I'm bar or little wire they do it he's got to be motivating factor. I think in many cases because they wanna take that vacation or because they wanna buy that expensive car look we're seeing 40000 dollar issue v.s rolling off the lot get awfully quickly now. A lot of thing is that it. Do you think some of those refinancing. Activities are related to the purchase of depreciating. Assets like cars and boats I do aid and the reason I say that is because people are. Doing it now that they've got that extra chunk of equity in there. And they're feeling more confident so this is an indication people are feeling confident the oil. This is usually time we start ringing bells saying he out watch out because when people start feel comfortable enough to start sucking a lot of money on their home the purpose of consumption that's not a good thing and you talk about against cash out refinancing. And moving into longer term at a higher rate. That's not good and a lot of fronts just remember folks the good times don't last forever right you know and you know yeah the economy strong and I don't see anything on the horizon makes me terribly nervous you know people sailed trade war. I I would call more retreat skirmish. And and I expect I anticipate it reasonably. Peaceable. Resolution to it. An and I don't think it's gonna take years and these can be fairly short term at the end of the day too bad times just happened. I do that they they come on and something we don't predict what he did it may be two more maybe ten years from now. You wanna put yourself in the position where you know can be hurting yourself when that does happen at these low rates how do you feel about people making extra payments more. The way to look at it varies very simple I look what I can get brisk three and what is that. And honestly if a mortgage is three and a half percent or more. And it's fully guarantee rock where pre pay that mortgage that's a fully guaranteed 100%. 1% safe and I guarantee greater return I have no problem prepaying a 4% mortgage and investing 4% and you can't get 4% and bank CD and you cannot get 4% I mean the numbers I was looking at worth 3.3. Percent for five year. On a CD on the CD but that's when a five years hold that thought yet to talk about CD rates when we return. I'll tell you what folks the Dow was up a 142 points and the NASDAQ is up for more financial talk coming. In just couple minutes. Life goes on FaceBook and follow us on Twitter. Time now for Wall Street watch a look at the market's performance so far today thanks to Berrian jug right here on the financial exchange radio network. It is a day in the green on Wall Street the Dow up big in joining us now Wall Street watches Mike Armstrong and Mike Pepsi. Is in the news on this up day. They are so well they reported profits were just start to kick off earnings season next week and be a big week. That Pepsi airports early and they had quarterly profit but 61 share which beat estimates and nine cents revenue came in above forecast and it's certainly there's Mac business led by Frito-Lay. Grew up 4%. While the north American beverage business which has been. Yes slowing installing year over year. Is down 1% which is actually a lot there has been to previous quarters that the beverage businesses. Holding its own little bit batted in the past overall organic revenue beat forecasts. And they've created reiterated their guidance of Pepsi dot about four point. 1% right now on the news four point four bucks in port sent them. But he did you point out that does today is an early day in the earnings season. Wall Street's not a couple of days draw a wonder if they're starting anticipates a pretty good numbers. Like the numbers you reported today you know with Pepsi. It seems like gets out which you know will put a lot of pressure on the company to really perform in the next earnings call also will see if you see the market running up a fair bit before earnings season those those companies and it's a put forward a pretty strong quarter gave the court to maintain those market gains so it would happen. All right but pretty nice day so far Mike Armstrong banks that report on Wall Street watch. So Tucker according to our poll 31 point 2% of our listeners spent more than 20000 dollars on their winning. 60%. Says it spent less than that of course you know if you're old like me. A does that inflation adjusted I might have done capital so long ago. Like it was worth twenty that was part of 20000 today's dollars brown and I got married pre entered the fifth that if I should the dollar had just been created you. Elected when it at a in currency. Ed a question. I saw this story. A camera aboard the stuff that might have been imposed USA today yup. Our certificates of deposit worst rate now leave for years. I'd never even considered. Buying a CD and never considered recommending one never considered by and and and talk and her. Ten years yeah no question about that because they paid next to zero well you know it's it's even get rich buying CDs must. That's super safe income bucket it's not that bad of starting to competitive I just checked some of the rates. You get about 3.3 percent for a five year CD of every IC insured FDIC insured fully guaranteed. 3% for three year two point eight effort to something to do the latter here and a different staggered maturities of are always coming due. Get a blend of 3% it's been a long time since you do that but what's inflation. Over two now. Sort tenure here and I pay taxes on that 3% assuming it's not a tax deferred account correct yes so again you're not gonna get rich but you know what you can at least tread water meant to protect the value of your investment. And as you pointed out if you're saving for something that's going to be in six months or a year or even three or four years in like waiting tuition bill. Pals right my wife and you know we did it before we got married and we were buying CDs. In anticipation. Of buying our first house and art. You know back then news in 19841980. Leo we were buying 500 dollar CD's while that's that's how we say it. Yeah and even if any knew that when he was to buy a house exactly and and old people getting a lot of trouble when they're saving for education for example. And their the other kids sixteen or seventeen years old Missouri I was asleep in the index fund their Chris I can be risky JP took that 20072008. All the sudden your money for that purpose went away so if it's something short term and I say short term like under four years. This could do a 3%. We're all trying to think out of the box when it comes to giving gifts for special occasions. So this year I'd encourage you to call leader bank a bank you ask why wouldn't call bank forget well. First because your Smart person and second. Because you've heard me talk about leader banks incredible assortment of precious metals. It's not a deposit not FDIC insured not insured by any federal government agency. Not guaranteed by the bank and it may go down in value. Leader bank a step ahead. So John. What in the it was stage of life should we stop putting. Our college graduation date I graduated college in the 1984 window when I stop the broadcasting that on my risen along time ago Barry you can do and have you been not doing a way to Mohamed that affected the yeah estimate is somewhere between ages forty and fifty. And the reason for that is age discrimination is illegal. But it doesn't count up and look at the business you came happy I'm John and if you don't know he he was a news anchor. In major markets throughout the country you worked and what the number seventeen market was what is the highest mark actually I didn't really work in major markets are working in mid size markets that a large market work that was like 45 look at the size of like Providence say for example as an example pretty good. It's at banks. But the bottom line here is that if you're sending a resonate out and you get the date of when you graduate college. I pretty much tells the employer like how old you war but yet they figured out by dates of employment anyway not us certainly because she. You might have been with us certain employer for X number of years and united started there at age 29 more modest or they're aged 21. They don't know that. And the belief here in this article is that you don't wanna give them more ammunition to know this guy is 52 C take it out when you hit forty. He stopped put and they nineteen I graduated college you know pace diversity 1984 that comes out and think about it it's for reasons even if there was an age discrimination. Like if you get along resonate and there seven job Joseph listing and below that is the year be graduating college. And were hiring someone financial services knew that for financial services jobs. Do I really care what year you graduated and like you remember what you learn way back then. And so it it becomes less and less of mission now when you first got to college it's everything but so he's only. How rampant in. You know we saw bodies discrimination. How common is it in your experience united same age in days like I talked to my friends. And so it seems like an awful lot of my friends leadoff. When there. 5550. Cent 6260. Every noticed that. I've noticed they could get laid off their jobs are eliminated yes it regardless he still haven't. I I mean I'm. Not gonna mention employer but there's a major employer in Boston and I know several people who worked there and every time he at age 45. They run difficulty and they find that everybody knows like yeah once you get 454647. It in this case I don't think it's insurance I think it's a matter they worked the way up to a certain income for specific job but it's in middle management and you start pricing yourself. Or if you're gonna do a job. That pays 80000 dollars and you work yourself up to bonuses and raises to get to like 115. At some point of being power says. You know that jobs were the 8085. We or maybe even sixty as we can replace them with a thirty hurled. But it certainly is not worth 115 for us anymore disguised bringing a lot of value. But you know we don't need much about it so yeah age discrimination is rampant and we know he's worked himself party's gonna have a heart attack so real Obama insurance plan. And he doesn't seem to be quite as excited about coming to work every day is needed fifteen years ago when there's a whole lot of factors but yet age discrimination is there in the bottom line is. Doing that prospective employer less and less reason to discriminate witches that beaten up in the air and what you were actually agents. Four words are missing in the new tax law in its giving restaurants. Harper. Problem here is what woods' great news for most businesses. The matter of immediate expensing. Allows employers to. Take a big tax loss our tax credit. For money they invest in their business right away. But I. The law actually is bad news for building renovations or because the costs. Then if you're renovating as opposed to investing in something new. Yet to depreciate them over like 39 years to think this is just an oversight I do when they wrote the code yeah I do because like this story here is white castle restaurants. You know they renovated about six to ten of their stores every year. It's a ongoing cost of for them. But they're gonna do less renovations because it's really expensive so I I think this is an oversight and I wouldn't be surprised of some sort of amendment is made. To actually. Not discourage renovating existing building to limit or rushed when their rate since December of last year when they're put this together that when I saw the story said. This couldn't be with the intent I don't think this is the intention at all and I would not be surprised as some revision to the tax code simplification was supposed to be the way but. In some ways simplified in other ways we try to simple fight make me more cup which you know if China's taste for soybeans is a weak spot for them in the trade war with trump you know. China slapped a 25 was 25% tax on American soybeans twenty dues 25% correct a problem last week. China is the biggest consumer soybeans in the bowl yeah it is Dora the bike and they can't roll. This is a major problem they have oops and this actually helps most of you know we're gonna be scoring the the trade wars this is what were the US I think it's a pretty good advantage because. China needs because the population. So they need imports so many soybeans. That they're having a very hard time replacing and their farmers don't wanna grow them because. The you know the the government says well you must grow soybeans well it's gonna grow here because we don't have the right climate. And they import via the United States fourteen billion dollars and the problem is it's really hard to switch suppliers overnight while micro just turn lights on sale to grow soybeans and result is a mess to begin with right. Yeah so I mean it may not get to you made order them from Brazil but they mean our yeah exactly so foreign growing Canada's Canada's. They will benefit but again they they can't pick up the gap they can't pick up the full gap and that's the problem is that. With fourteen billion dollars from the United States last year during a difficult time replacing that with soybean some of the country's machine. Odd feel so bad about the trip to India. Terrible they matter to the plate and I just sit there yet they might have to play their way whether or old rilya was let that slip out I don't. Irrevocable trusts Todd. And one of the concerns that I hear from listeners is that. People are afraid of giving up control to their trust the when they use these herbal global trust. Is that in fact a valid concern. It is not a valid concern but that's not a good enough answer let me help you understand why it's not. First and foremost. Their concern is that way because they're not serving as trustee right and they can't if they want the protection. From the nursing however two things they need to remember. One. During their life. 95%. Of the things that need to be done with that trust. Will be done by them so they can still make the investment decisions talked to the financial advisor is to make the investment decisions cider house yeah so. So all of this stuff can be done by them. There's only about 5% of the time that we need a lawyer. Or is that not a lawyer the trustee to do anything is a trustee often one of the children idiots it is and so that's another good point that it normally it's a child. And the last that the number two reason you don't have to worry is they retain the right to remove and replace the trustee anytime they want. Let's first talk about the differences between load in no load funds what to those terms actually mean. Yes when you talk about a load you're talking about compensating somewhat for the sale of that mutual fund there are a lot of different options when it comes to these but. Typically the most common is just an upfront load that you and paint the advisors so if you put 101000 dollars in to a mutual fund that. Mutual fund may charge you 45%. Bank and gets paid to the eyes. In a no load fund you don't necessarily have that upfront fee but you still do not operating expenses each year just because the fund has to pay its employees and so forth. You do Syria let's say just go to fidelity dot com and pick up one of their mutual funds. You might not be compensating. An advisor sales person for recommending that bond but fidelity has their expenses that they are running in the air still charging new. It's all detailed and expense ratio that you every year what is a typical expense ratio on a mutual fund these days I would really hesitate to give a typical because they vary so much emergency funds as low as. Three basis points all the way up to wave over 1% so there is a huge range of mutual fund expenses. It's been a massive price hike in the cost of me Tesla vehicles being sold. In China we'll talk about it you know it's Ullman anyway. A number of states are probing fast food industry policy it stops workers from changing jobs this is actually very sad story comes in the Washington Post. And then finally. The president go after Pfizer as a relates to drug prices hi everybody it's very and John Moody with you here it's a Tuesday morning and you know the headline reads well Tesla is hiking their prices by 20%. It's it's it's a function of what's going on with the tariffs. And I looked I think they sold 101000 cars not to met yet so it's it's not a big deal in terms of a number of vehicles. It's yet another example of the fact that the trade wars do adversely impact everybody to some extent. Some more than others but the test was having to raise the prices in China as the trade war hits US cars. And they've raised the price by 20%. That being cut across years of this this trade dispute and it talking now about building a factory in Shanghai. Yes so again this is an American company that does business in China. And you know this is an example where united shows that the global nature of our world economy. And it shows the global nature like these companies that we think are American right but I have operations elsewhere and just like all of these companies that we think are. German companies and a employ a lot of people in South Carolina you know that's what's complicated about. Well number one global used to be Swedish company you rate beat us open ball global suite are now trainees John and see exactly. So it's hard keeping track of the score and hard on this and when you have a multi national companies with operations in multiple places. This is the impact on tussle American company that does not to raise the prices in China and they're gonna wanna do business in China. Because Chinese demand for electric cars as high as they mandated. And I think it's next year or the year after. That. A full either seats 10% of the vehicles sold China have to feel like. And so you've got that mandate yet to deal with and a that's like General Motors to absolutely and what scenes they see growth of at least there's there's a lot of people there. We know does a lot more people in China obviously in the United States. But even more importantly there's more and more people moving into the middle class becoming consumers. They've transitioned we talked about this ad nauseam about the fact they've transitioned from a company our country that is simply cheap labor source. Into a country this can be a lot more like us with middle income people consuming middle income products and as they do that. We're gonna wanna piece of that pie. So right now this is an easy war for us to win down on the line we'd like to still have access to those consumers will be spending more and more. Did you know that if you work act. The Burger King in. Delray. And another Burger King. Five miles away says hey we'll hire you and will pay higher wage echoed that Burger King. I didn't realize that yes I mean I I can see you know managers in high tech companies or managers in. Companies are proprietary. Intellectual property actual property but it's we can keep them going from you know to your competition now. But this is this is fast food I mean we make burgers. And here's how we make a great and we you know we weep Obama that you can't for the franchisees are prohibited. From stealing employees. From other franchise if they have what it called no poach agreements. I think that's the problem here is. I think government is saying you know these no poach agreements and depressing wages they're depressing wages they don't seem to be really fair because if someone leaves Burger King to go to Dunkin' Donuts. That's probably not. Giving Dunkin' Donuts a huge advantage. Or hurting or or an error or Wendy's where they put out dead these these agreements of these are managers by the Oregon after the athlete but they're not just. He did not just the fast foods jiffy lube does this UH and we have these no poaching clauses in their franchise contracts. At that. And and if so what now is happening is different attorney generals throughout the country are saying hey meet me we're not sure this culture. I'm sure there's a lot of harm there you know if you if you leave Dunkin' Donuts to go to Wendy's yell. Or if you leave well though they're saying you can't lead wind east to go to Wendy's across town. Oh OK I that's that's the nature and probably you can't leave one H&R block and go to another each from higher where you can't go right to be moved to another just the right used to study used. You can go from jiffy lube even go to Wendy's to McDonnell correct ego run McDonald's to check full. But you can't go within that friction in other problems. You know if you worked at a man McDonald's you've develops skills today EP you might be very desirable. For another franchise solar and and you know critics have said that go over the past several years as wage growth remains persistent weakness. For an ally strong and growing economy that this is an impediment to raising your way she that if you have an option to make more money across the street should be able to. Pfizer and others should be ashamed that they have raised drug prices for no reason this is according to the president tweeting yesterday bear merely taking advantage of the poor and others. Unable to defend themselves while the same time giving. Bargain basement prices to other countries in Europe and elsewhere we will respond since the president will not soon enough. Well you get the feeling this is a political winner. Going after the drug company well yeah it always bugged me. Thank you Pfizer wants to raise the price yeah that's fine right it's a private company I'm eight like I should be able to raise my person but would it is always. Is you know you could buy the drug in France for ten cents on the doll you can buy in Great Britain by the right for a lot less money. Well not fair that that's a separate issue and absolutely right but even within the context of drugs that are for sale in the United States last year vs the same drug for sale in the United States this year. They're raising prices on the same drug even compared to the high price their prime before. And I'll last week it was a left wing political group who's taking aim at Pfizer for a hiking prices on dozens of drugs. And not to be outdone on Monday it was the president who came out tweet this storm. And basically you know saying that they are arbitrarily raising prices and taking advantage of Americans struggling to afford prescription medicines. It is not a good time to be an American drug company because. You don't have a whole lot of friends on either side of the aisles. Guinier under major major scrutiny this this I'd say let it come down do. Who hates the drug companies war while the U go back to the obamacare health plan law. That was all written by the drug companies. Yeah knee that was a big boondoggle if you looked at how much money. They gave congressman during that when that law was being written John you know if it's criminal. Lot of lot of rules that clearly do favor of the drug companies they're under fire they've been doing very well for the loss to seniors David and frankly I've made a lot of money from clients. In that match for the next ten years. Are going to be quite as robust. Well and in the drug companies are priced rather. Reasonably because of that concern. At some point we have to get to the bottom of you know what is a reasonable rate of return in what the rules should be. Right now are running drug companies like utilities that's gonna take all the innovation I know assess this problem or an hour ago we all want cheap drugs right. But then just moments ago we're talking about how they're curing cancer and heart disease is getting cured. Which hepatitis CU knows no longer a death sentence so. You know if you take the money that our people stove and innovate saint Marie that's that's the fine line you have to. It's very difficult to do this within the context of freedom difference. He and amicus these are drugs that people need many cases to save their lives. It's also for profit business if anybody who can reflect we've Hillary Clinton this thing the people resentment. It is an and I almond back camp that resents us it bothers me. That might Canadian cousins literally my Canadian cousins can get drugs and ten cents on the dollar compared to what I. And when you go on line and you have to go to Canadian pharmacy to get a great deal on drug which use an illegal it is illegal to do but people do illegally. They shouldn't have to behave illegally to get affordable drugs. And that's a major problems so. Where health care is going. No one knows him but it will be a lot different and I think well part of as the government will be empowered to have more of a say in negotiating drug prices. Tucker got good news for a sup prime day is going to be better than ever next O line though. Next week I'm like what's on your list you know shopping list for. I mean I dream I know what some of the deals are going to yet we don't either but but I didn't. Is that they're a sharp as saying crap I need help that would please with be changed is. You know they have the lightning deals on primed now. If you wanna do lightning deal last year it was 500 dollars you'd pay him as advertised here like him. This year they've increased to 750. Dollars it's funny because Amazon in intuitively I first thought while it's gonna raise the price of the item but the bottom line is that they're interpreting it by saying. By raising the cost of the vendor the vendor has to have stuff that's going to be really good deals that's gonna make people want to buy so what does that was my criticism. In in prime days gone by. I don't think you but some stuff. But I think of a nine imply anything a prime day or I wasn't wasn't too pleased with it laster is a lot better. But the first year prime it was in absolute joke when it was gorgeous sale on cue tips or something at the yeah once she gets so many cute if you don't need a whole lot foster's you know the big reason they do price today is they get people to Jules. That oh membership. Yeah primed. And it's as Tucker pointed out it's also going to be an important thank you for the people were paying 20% more for Amazon prime. Right this is going to be a thing where people who say well and I really get good value for that free shipping the cost has I think your your rage because. You know wal marts coming after him would object dot com you never know how much are on TV it's as. Free shipping no membership required over and over and over and look people see a lot of value and Amazon prime. But not for a 119 dollars just for the delivery that's where and people are gonna start to shop yeah people are gonna say they're an open their jet app and they're gonna open their Amazon app. And that's the death knell for hands on people do comparison pricing. And Amazon one way they can fight back is to make prime date a very rewarding experience and would not surprise me if whole foods was heavily involved and primed it measures yeah we'll see about an Alley. Good point we'll see something. Tucker I've got good news for what we're going commercial free throw away for free food. Up next we're gonna talk to you about how you can get free food today alt. Erin is called the equipment right crate tones are correct. Crow hop crap town I ordered I don't wire but what are you. Exactly what is this mysterious supplement and why is it's so controversial. Yeah actually. Like in your thing whether it was a matter whether it's a lot of good weather. My hand. So if you think about one thing that I like the public thought. It's a good way of what it is like how marijuana as a I. Crop on the all of the plant. Now there are all different kind of in the plan that can be that rocked back and ride it is. Drug. But there you mean like black is leading an old. I just where I mean they call it drug. MG and eight MG. All in they're really done that attitude compound armed and because they appear to be used only anecdotally. An airport. Where people who struggled with drug addiction and the music are they found out more are all appeal it hit on every minute on. Controversial because it is technically. The daily OBO. So some people expect you know of the noise. Being partly that and appealing that doesn't exactly sound like here it is is addictive. So that they can't. We have not really no one. Because there hadn't been on every expert on crack I'm I'm ill recently that was one of the are ready it in my Robert a pretty limited and went about my. But what we know is back and won the compound in which makes up about it it would have. Appears and not be addictive appeared you know potentially and there is potential there is another angry at their. However that doesn't appear to potentially be a little bit addictive but because it may not only about bad but why can't. But by that that I spoken yet that they believe that they don't think that there I and it would be addicted and then in another belt and could potentially. A there edict you. But a lot of this is sort of anecdotal and and not scientifically. Proven I think that's the problem here and the FDA is taking the position that they're they're questioning just how effective business. Right about that really good point a lot of positive. Look what we've heard her longtime ban on people who is that there are connection that they aren't. And and it helped them up now because of anecdotal and on a clinical trial Laura while the study. A bullpen hasn't yet they okay we know there. But I think that the lightning here at all we Kelly that was the most buddy but in Iraq where they actually looked at the addictive potential. I don't that he really important if you're gonna decide at that are out there it in the future or not what they did with that at. Rack and they used the standard drug addiction study what they give them. If you highly addictive drug a Buick like working and have been pushing I'll get. A bit drunk and then they let them overtake each component in. The Arctic is true that I'm. And I think I had a bad compound and make up about XP that the they were not entry in conclusion that I felt they went into it and national bubble in nineteen of that accomplishment but not super. Actually work into it that I objectively better earlier one. Compound that that compound make that the majority of the plan is lately not it is currently in Iraq. And the other compound might be but I that the Banner Bank like because it make a ball. We're back into the overall and that they don't think that this drug would be pretty injured in the could be reasoning behind why it might be here. So where is the FDA stand right now is this a they still looking into this right now is there a possibility that in the near future this. Could get FDA approval pending review. And you need here is that there are a lot of potential here but what shall require further research. And Indy in May not at VA has made it back and I know that the copyright or bad in researching met and we think it should be. They have tried that yea and a BA the drug enforcement in behalf tried to ban. On how to work because I had the equipment so vocal about Colin they either gaga apparently ailing airline air. But I haven't been doing that our researchers are saying you know maybe it's time we need more deeply about the more money you can look at that. The unit. Because if there is a title here and not get quite yet but abruptly. When he outcry that did get along and clearly something we need it here and if that could be at that we should be adding. It should yes certainly something worth fast tracking when you're dealing with the issues that such a crisis as the open an addiction no question about it. And Michael Lotta times people look at the sales load they Payer they look at the expense ratio on a fund. But they don't realize there are other expenses built into a fund what kind of expenses do we see in addition to the once people know well. The biggest one that usually gets left out is something around the trading costs of mutual funds. And a few years ago the SEC pretty much came out and told the mutual fund companies that. Because these costs are so complicated. To calculate. They are not action required to disclose them in the operating expenses so if you look at a fund that trades a lot. And by that I mean turning over the portfolio maybe a hundred or 200% a year. Those costs can be significant. Are there any types of funds that typically have lower turn over rates of that don't trade is much so that he can get a better deal absolutely I mean when you look at. Basics of trading how much 100 vs another. Usually an index fund trades a lot less than an actively managed mutual funds are for instance you can buy an index fund. That just replicate the S&P 500 that's gonna have a lot less turnover than an actively managed large cap mutual fund in most cases. Allegiant air pilots authorized a strike over sham work scheduling system. If you sell a sixty minutes segment that they did an Allegiant air but they pretty well rip the legion for a number of reasons. They've been under fire no question about that. Now their pilots have authorized the strike. Saying that the new schedules and they've implemented ignores seniority. Don't give a whole lot of consideration to family considerations like and give them calls in the when I sang eight in your work. So that pilots don't like the way that being treated. And I think they make it's probably pretty good time to strike because allegiance under a lot of pressure you know. In a lot of rice strike that when I just quit go to another meet pilots are very employable to a cut there's a pilot short there is a pilot shortage but you know if you're working for which. Many considered to be sub par airline and yet. That's true well I mean it. But the thing is that it be hard to employ that many pilots at once he might appeal to geeky yes so they are all to look for new job this by an out of jobs to take care of them. So we have to try to make the most of their workforce situation and also frankly take advantage of Allegiant while there are kind of down and out down there and a lot of trouble right now. Lines throughout the Dorset and it might have been now yet to dress a Puerto Rico and the access is by and it's crystal creative and we're here to talk about it I think how David L one point six million people to participate so. It's definitely been a success and the bottom line is they were to spread that. The outfit does not have to be all that great to qualify for free food will just work is nine times out of tend to be taking a pitcher at your store right in that goofy Alfred put stole its. All over social media your store or restaurant is on there and gets people thinking about it. That to their night to say while good pretty damn hungry out of goodwill and every post and social media is a free commercial trucks otters here you know all yeah he's he dressed like a coward. You eat eat you can be issue. Rest assured talks under way no doubt Microsoft is gonna start selling low cost surfaces. To compete with Apple's iPad. Be nice if they actually worked. Nearly the surface now takes. At least as a keyboard you know here's the criticism all my staff views the surface. And it's it's like they're sending them back for repair them constantly have one staff member who had. To send it surfaced back for repair three times Bob has just nuts sir you're not a big fan well. Yeah chuck you know I wish chipper here to Z he he had his jock crap out. They've checked he's busy working on the eastern Oregon district he's got a good working its guy as there is something much more important that power outfit there. But Hillary surface. To sell for 399. Dollars to grab bars. Good price. You know that they're going head to head against the least expensive ipad's. It's a ten inch product. The surface go is really aimed at the same buyers the iPad. What they're trying to do those different she is trying to get people to use that windows operating system and to spark creative among the hardware partners. It's been slow to catch on but lately has been doing better their sales the last quarter up 2032%. And but it's it's been slow to catch on and you know what I think of the surface I think with the fact that Microsoft spent a fortune. To have you the united arrange with the National Football League member all the coaches he had made they were dumping on and a because every guy in Chris Collins worth called today. An iPad knock off for a national television. And on top of that anonymity anytime the announcers referenced. This device that they. Wall John Smith the quarterback is you see is looking at his iPad. Is like no he's what you look on the surface for rich Microsoft paid a fortune to placement. So yeah it's a tough thing but. I think with the trying to get a niche of something that's a blend between the computer in my pants. He does a global more than the iPad doesn't as an operating system with more like your computer. So eventually I think it'll be it'll be hard product 400 bucks in its price competitive now. Well grandma died. She sixty years old shoes on an oxygen tank in the damn electric company turnoff for power. This is talking about publicity you talk about a lawsuit I'd talk. It is going to be big settlement very quietly Linda Daniels who's in the hospice care one's energy at home I this is just is left. I mean you couldn't script something so not only somebody and get sued somebody else is getting fired I mean this is just unbelievable she's in hospice care. She was in her home in Newark, New Jersey Thursday. Four hours on her oxygen tank and is a hundred degrees. In her oxygen tank and air conditioning were shut off at around 10 o'clock in the morning. If what they say is true here this is just beyond belief her family claims that they were on the phone. With PS. PS CNG to turn off the electricity until to turn it on. Until the sixteen year old died just before 430 in the afternoon from Hartfield. Here they are talking of the utility company sank. We need it the power to keep this woman alive. NP is seen as it was like an arrow they got nasty too yeah it is de ya your putting your complaining to Obama moms die right. And there was no. So what's it outwit leaving the settlement. In the millions now. And and in that person I match is gonna lose their job so very digits. It depends you know hey if it hit it at. It's limited only by a imagination like Hawaii they're going to be able to demonstrate. The issues in pain right when she died hours and not only is its punitive because he killed an old lady. But it's punitive because she was in physical team prior to her death they are gonna pay is this. I saw this in a car accident suit where a truck hit a car into the mine and he can demonstrate. That the person who died was in pain leading up to their death and you cause that change your. Yes so this is the topic case that if your PSE and G you never want to go to trial. Two reasons number one all the publicity which you'll even be worse which will go on this is an unbelievable story. Topic that. A jury he pretty much make up whatever number you want I bet on these juries before on on Al lesser cases than this. An easy deceiving its to a trial to witness ever go to trial they will settle for a massive amount of money. Because. Because they know that a jury would award them both what ever they want it now. And on top of that will be covered by the news stations and used to be talked explicitly what it would just be unbelievable so yeah you're gonna see a massive settlements. Don't know about that hey there's a new. Cure for Lyme Disease years ever headline to Soria yet 2000. Nine that well when we come back Rick talked about a wine disease vaccine. Like this is just another rotten day and a guide is paradise so she had no symptoms whatsoever. Each and more. Fatigued yeah she was she is now tired I was exhausted yet but there were no symptoms a man and a 300000 cases a year. You know it's been worse very prevalent 300000 new cases each year does triple in twenty years which by the way I think is part. Leak because of increased diagnosis I think a lot of noble had this in and develop all kinds of problems later in life it's like. That was the cause right it's a big big problem it's a crisis in the northeast mid Atlantic and upper midwest that's where it's worst. This is an interesting case that would this vaccine that's come up because patient advocacy groups are actually speaking out against the vaccine. Two reasons number one it doesn't work in a lot of cases but even more importantly in this is interesting. They're saying that getting this vaccine will give you a false sense of security. About getting. Or not giving it so like I bought the backyard and whatever because I got vaccine that this is time a year you'd like to go for a walk in the way I'm what's so frustrating that you don't dare. And between that you know that ticks in the mosquito zero EP brush your dog in the coming it covered tactics. And Andrew and the Lyme Disease he particularly in our area as well. Has become an epidemic but they had there was at a drug. Years ago that prevent it from the problems it caused our threats. Side effects yeah so what we have out there he is either not effective or not as effective as it should be. They're saying this one is going to be at least five years yeah and so you know hopefully there's something that will come but in the meantime. Take precautions because this is a serious problem don't go outside it just so I'm going dulled the the techs aren't voted normal. And I must descriptive are very politic brightly it if you are if you pulled the tick you can hardly see it's right sizes. Pencil right you know. And it's again it's it's not intuitive because you would think that the smaller the better that it's not a problem. In this case small or is worse so. It's it's a terrible terrible disease. And it's a real problem in our area and it's at least five years away yeah they have it can preventive measure. Whoever and lift getting into the scooter business. I kind of wonder how this is an you know yeah there. Electric scooter rental company lining his teaming up with over to bring an unconventional mode of transportation to the world. It's part of 335 million dollar financing round who were investing in line. If it these experiences and this car traffic he put us after a Lyme Disease him. I wonder fit with the effectiveness. You know if you. If you all the sudden in cities that are heavily congested. Throughout North America all the sudden.
