Is it possible that oil could go to a 150 dollars a barrel will explain the circumstances that could make that occur. What is the impact then on plane tickets many you're getting ready for the ball travel season planning to travel the globe. What is the cost of plane tickets going to be this ball and then finally. We're talking about women out living man. Not asking why dale would then why did he retire early hi everybody it's variant truck with you here on a Monday morning and a lot of fear that there's going to be a dramatic in. Increase in the price of oil truck. Yeah ever wonder how much of this is warranted how much of it is some police been at this point and the reason for that is you know and in this is coming on a report from my Bernstein research now and they came out and pretty much said look we don't have oil companies investing enough in these huge projects that they use to invest in. And so as a result you may not have. Enough oil down the road in order to meet demand in and kind of you fill the tanks as we need to break. Part of it I understand it's it's true what you would not seen the same type of large scale investment in these massive multi billion dollar projects that you did back in 201011. And twelfth. But not only that chuck you remember a few years ago were we reported that 300000. Workers had left the oil industry. And more than a trillion dollars had been taken out of exploration I mean they're just not put it they're not investing. Like they used to. And I think that drop in price when it went to twenty dollars a barrel or 27 dollars a barrel. I think that spooked a lot of diesel cup what would did an in here's the problem is let's say that you are ExxonMobil BP. And you say OK am considering let's say that there's a massive deposit that there are looking out where they say okay we're gonna we're gonna pork ten billion dollars into the scene as something huge where they say look we're gonna pour you know 102030 billion dollars into a project over five to seven years. If all of a sudden OPEC comes out and says they have by the way we actually wanna produce a little bit more oil all of a sudden ExxonMobil is on the hook then right. For that project they've got a long term liability out there and they can't do anything about that. And I think that's really what spooked him and that's why they've largely trended towards okay. We're gonna take on some smaller projects use a billion dollars that we're gonna invest here over the next year and a half years three billion we're gonna invest over the next two years. Doors of the scale that they're investing in and I don't think it's wrong for those companies to go about it that would result. Really the the big fear is you you get to it they're slow to invest. You've got. Geopolitical issues in the in places like Iran. You've got Venezuela. Venue that you look at the situation in Canada where you have a fire that knocks out production mean EE just have a lot of forces. Better lining where if all the sudden you lost in a million or two million barrels a day of production. Whole count what are those things not present though. When of those risks not president good I think the risks are always there. But if prices of oil are at forty dollars a barrel. Those risks are a lot more palatable. Then they went was already trading at 73 me work locally here we're we're Payne three cost per gallon for gas. Yeah I mean look you've seen that the national averages started to move back up now and then after declining for really most of the month of June is prices came down a little bit yup but there is there's very little doubt that you're going to see prices nationally back right around that three dollar mark. Probably within the next couple weeks if oil prices stay where they currently are Brent crude currently at 78. West Texas intermediate just under 74 races that spread has come down because that spread had been approaching ten dollars if he'd been significant and in really the big movie's been Brent coming down and while west Texas kind of stayed in that 73 to 75 rain so. I certainly think that there are some things to be concerned about from a cost perspective on oil. But you know saying that we're going to go to be you know back north of 150 and it's you know going to be a super spike you don't see that. It's not that I don't see it it's just we know that US production can spool up pretty quickly now you see if you see. Jeff if you see prices get up to nine your hundred dollars a barrel. All these producers are gonna say it here get get these reality outplayed let's let's go like they they they don't leave money on the table right they just want it in I think that. You're seeing oil companies being more responsible with their cash flow than they have previously him. And if if if I'm an investor in an oil company. I like that I think I'd rather give up a little bit on the top line up in not have to deal with do you believe we you know we were cutting their dividend and doing this and that. I'd rather give up a little on the top line and miss out on the bad stuff. Then have been in these big swings like we had previewed. It was some of these partnerships one of the biggest expenses that an airline incurs is the price of fuel well. Price of fuel has gone up by about 55%. In the last year and this is for airlines. Big question is what will those. Increases in the price of fuel how the impact the price the plane ticket and how will they impact airline profits are more concerned about the play. Plane ticket. They're going to be go I looked at him I couldn't believe how expensive I go to the same places all the time. And I'm gonna be pain and I go to Phoenix. For Thanksgiving. Chaka Anatolia. Airplane tickets are going to be a lot more experts of this from what I've seen early on. Based on what I've seen have been kind of poking around myself. We're talking anywhere from twenty to 30% above the last couple years that's kind of what I've conceive you've been in the same boat when you've been looking more. Real or yeah like I the the Arizona plane tickets were. I think more than that opt to check my record that I'm. I was shocked. Part of that is that's not if you fly direct to there I do that's you know that's not afflicted a lot of airlines necessarily make new if you were looking in the you know Boston Chicago or New York to why don't we know more competition manner something like that. I think those are less affected but. The ones where there's not much competition where you have one maybe two cares instead of three or four. I think those routes are going to be pushed up significantly discuss that's where they know that they have you over a barrel they've got Jeff and I affair and so this is I think you're going to continue to see airline tickets rise because I honestly think. There are a lot of people who are willing to pay more for plane tickets right now. Well you know eat in the can afford it right the economy's good stock market's up. They're making more higher wages so they wanted to jump on a plane they can afford yes it's I think that you were going to see if if airlines try to work and and they they they never used the word collusion now but if they work to try to get to prices up. I think they'll be pretty successful this. Global passenger traffic in nature to your point was up six point 1% Europe and big bump. That's like for an industry like that to have. A six point one and that's global definitely yeah the American economy's going well some other parts of the country or world or not. It is robust in terms of their economy. Based on current life expectancy tables a typical girl boy born in the United States today. Will most likely live until she is almost 87 years old. That's nearly four years younger than attend a local boy who's born in the year twenty team. And so the big question that we run into with this is so women are living longer. But what's interesting. Is they tend to retire. Little bit younger actually. And they have often times big gaps in their workforce yours yet on an average if you look at the data married women tend to be about two to three years younger than their husbands on average and and so what you see is that. Oftentimes a husband and wife may retire at the same time rain but the wife is retiring at a younger age and so. It's okay husband gets to 66 and wife says and 63 but let me call it quits anyways you know I don't want him having all the fun I gotta have gotta get a little bit neo for myself too so. You end up with. Women who live longer than. And as a result of retiring earlier they have no longer retirement plan for the man to man retiring it's at 66 might have a fifteen year retirement plan through. Where's the woman retiring at 63 might have a twenty year retirement plan fortune five year difference. You know he. You live with a cougar married I very young two years older than me say I I married a younger woman. Tucker I'm curious what you're. You re younger Tucker way younger married we've poll question today who is younger. In your relationship that whole we're talking about did the person you live with. So far Tucker 87 point 5%. Say that the women. Arm the younger of the two spouses. In usually two by about would you say three years or three years typically Austria. It does have an impact on retirement planning if he'd like to participate in our poll is go to financial exchange showed dot com Benito exchange showed dot com or text us. 63566. Is our tech's number when we come back we'll be talking about. Farm income. How is farm income if you're farmer how has it paired over the last five years that's our next topic on the financial exchange. The woman coming into show business and financial. It's the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and chuck son on the financial exchange radio network. Hi this is Barry Armstrong and if you're a landlord or property manager I'm sure you've heard me talk about Z rent leader banks tremendous on line rent collection program I'm excited to tell you now about their brand new product called Z deposit this is another free program which streamlined the opening of tenant security deposit accounts three totally digital experience with C deposit landlords can open an account online invite tenants to entered there information and manage all their security deposits Z deposit also automate many of the compliance headaches for landlords such as generating account disclosure forms and will even send out annual interest payments directly to -- -- -- called the Z deposit team to get started at 78164186. No. Everybody it's very Armstrong NG to Jay is the executive vice president at leader bank. And we're here to talk about a brand new product available for landlords it's called Z deposit dot net Jake. What. Barry we created a security deposit product. To really help the problem a lot of land border facing with security deposits which is. You know one it's time consuming to open the small internal security commerce science. And yet to go into the bridge yet signed paperwork in their small dollars and in the turn. It is certainly the complaints in Massachusetts really tough for landlords and security deposit account. You have to give them ten in certain forms when they open up the count and you have to pay interest a new and we should do all this canal through Z deposit all of that you can do through Z deposit it literally takes about forty seconds to open up an account. We handled the automatic forms that are generated the account number department commission statement all that said lieutenant. And the interest descent of the tenant. Automatically every year. This sounds like something it's going to be very valuable to large landlords it might have 200 tenants and small landlords that might only have five tenths yeah absolutely with a large landlords. It's just a lot of hassle to managed so we make dad very efficient. For the small landlords a lot of them are afraid of nineteen complaints done correctly so some of them. Some of them don't even like taking security deposits were hopeful that this will help them do that. Folks if he'd like to learn more about C deposit go to their website Z deposit dot net. Or you can call and speak to somebody on disease deposit team it's 7816418691. Or online at Z deposit dot net it helps. It is a tough time to be far from US farm income track has dropped by 52%. Of the last five years. Due to falling commodity prices and eggs due to a lack of droughts. Yeah it's it really has been a difficult stretch to. You know be working anywhere in years the agriculture industry and in in particular. You know we've we've continued to see any of the small family farms really struggling in this time as you move towards more of the factory size farming and things like that. You're seeing a little bit of a comeback in the smaller farms with more of the B a desire performed table and so forth from some mayors in a country but that's still very much a niche product in in a minority of what you're seeing here. And so continues to be really eight challenging time. To be an agriculture right now I mean it's it's always been a tough job. And it's it's just continued to get harder in the last couple years of bumper crops really BO prevent around the world yeah bumper crops you know globally. Preventing farmers from generating the incomes that they used to by now they're getting hit with terrorists in you're you're trying to say you're soybeans your weak overseas. In all sudden you've lost several markets because of the 25% tear gas and that's gonna make it addition that that that's just gonna come pound. And add insult to injury. The other thing that's interesting by the way and I always I love going back to the statistic. At the beginning of the twentieth century. There were about fourteen million Americans that worked on farms how many 1414 million and now okay. And that was in 1910 and pay the population in 1910. And pull that up just to watch I mean yes. Let me guess population in 1910. Would how many people worked on par fourteen million and guests. 69. It was 92. Million. So still big percent so it was about you know 1617%. Of people in the United States worked on farms that. If you go forward to the year 2000 where we were just under 300 million people. Only about three million farm workers down to 1%. The amazing thing during that time is that production. More than quintupled. So was just you we just got so much more efficient care but you saw workers in particular in the 50s60s and seventies moving out of that industry. Just because that's when all your factory farms really started getting you know big enough that they could do a lot of the work. All the mechanical improvements in that so it contributed to it. American semiconductors. Or maybe it's American Superconductor. Idea if that's the name of the company AM SE. And Wisconsin judge has ordered that the Chinese wind filmmaker called sin noble win group. Pays them American Superconductor 57 point five million dollars we've been following this story for years. Because American's apparent activity have quality they've they're headquartered in Massachusetts what's left them. Yen in this is small consolation for American Superconductor. Which you know was a company that lost hundreds of millions of dollars to so noble as they pretty much stole the intellectual property for them. That they're getting 57 million pretty much because. That's just about all that's a noble has left. At this point. Now you could make the case that wolf it's noble is fairly tied in to view the Chinese Government and then you know they should be able to pay from their resources. But that's not the case you're just because you're not conceive you give them going after the Chinese Government on this so. 57 million dollars go into American Superconductor again. In small consolation for them but. At least getting something back. In this case here our poll question today is who's younger in your relationship the man or the woman. 27 point 7% of you say it's the man. 72 point 2% say it is the woman you can participate in our poll by going to Fannie to exchange showed dot com or you can text us your response. 63566. Is our text number. Eric B&B for yachts. A company has launched on Nantucket. An interesting idea. Yeah this is a company called was that Kelly boats and pretty much what they are doing is they are lifting you rents. March boats and these large boat rentals do not come cheap anywhere from 15100. To 6500 dollars today. Sofia if it again it's one of those things if you have to ask the price you can't afford it and how big boats are. It doesn't say exactly how big they are guessing these are right it probably arrange I'm guessing that. They probably have to be pretty significant because there are a lot of smaller boating club that you can do daily rentals on so I don't think I Beazer you know eighteen to 25 foot boats they'll my guess is the those. Pretty popular too freedom oh freedom vocal of his beat these days here and there have been problems and county braces aren't. Not it's not that the roughly 4000 a year I think I have a friend who's a member freedom boat club and city and a heck of a time boats. So you sign up you pay it's is it works as you paid subscription fees are. Every month yeah I know somebody did an and then you say you go on line decent while on a book the bulk fervor you know Saturday. 1 o'clock. Can you do wouldn't have to yell aux. And in it it's just soul. If they oversell yeah Alex this past week and a perfect example of over selling probably I don't at a weather's good it and the he says it was truly troubling news people bought it. And then they don't use it in the books and their idol and imagine like the ending you you've got kids for the weekend you want to take them out. So I'm I'm I'm pulling up some of these boats just to watch get a look at them via the 15100 dollar boat looks like it's a 32 foot center console so it capsized boat but not huge. This 6500 dollar boat which I'm pulling up at the moment is eighty feet long. And it appears to us now and what looked at least two crew members probably three I was gonna ask how many crew members or get them steal your got an eighty footer you're talking at least two just there for the vote in the and you but Bryant shopper Concord. Yet I don't know one what is it that 6500 bucks for the day 6500 dollars for the day war. Just for the day if I guess they gave his speech that's for the day I mean it's. To be fair there's there are six boats that are listed right now. And they run again anywhere between 1516500. For the day. And there's also a half they boat rental for 4000 if you want another. Eighty border. Actually looks like the same ones available for a half days so there might only be like five boats that are on this. You know what though the if your family down there you know buying a boat is expensive bury you in your mightily be there a week or two year seat sale let's go off for the day. Thousand boxes of expensive today you know. If it's a decade you're spending if you're spending a week in Nantucket to drop in the bucket and to be fair it's not that much worse than Disney World. Like Disney if this ATP. They you go there it's like OK if you go with like three kids you might spend when you cold lake hotel and Soledad you might be spending two grand today. And and it is pure misery is get a crack at it's it's just miserable in it just yeah. There's no effects though the worst would be the people who are like home go off season will go in the summer when it's not crowded snakes you wanna go to Disney when it's a hundred degrees out in the summer you know my son says he said that while you take my daughter's. To Disney in my wife and legal advocates to go hiking like. I doubted us but that around a little bit you know how to do that as their yards as you do with them. Nobody gets past me off for the stuff that you don't wanna do that's that's that's the beauty of being gripe as I say. Interest in and a busy. You a book other got a dirty diaper interviews you do something without interest and at what fix that up for the I agree upon a group one I know. I used to get Groupon the all time is that's the whole thing for upon. It's still around it's still thing pretty much all the competition has died off because you can't make money selling coop it's an email hostile to lead everyday yeah you veto gets the odd time that faster yeah the other stock prices down in the mid fours right now after being about four years ago up around. 1250 this year so group wants a market cap now. Actually if you go back further to go back to 2012 was twenty dollars a share about two point six billion dollars to really. Surprise I don't know anyone who would actually pay for a today. As well it's only castrate him to lose money notes on profound just about yeah. So we'll see we'll see. They up next forget to add update on Wall Street Michael Armstrong will join us for Wall Street life and attack. Life goes on FaceBook and follow us on Twitter. And joining us now on the line is Michael Armstrong from Wall Street watching like the start first with Twitter what's moving them today. So Twitter is down a little bit over 7% this morning news the came out over the weekend that. The company is gonna be purging millions. Quote too. Stake account they suspended. Oversee seventy billion at this point they're going to be doing it do that seems to be adding quite a bit of volatility into the into the stock this morning. Don't know with a group and that group on their up about 5% today different story for them. Yes so they were they're out there actually seeking a buyer. Definitely Alibaba is considered its potential buyer than they argue about 6% of the company. They did open up closer to 5% right now the company's up about 4% on this the kind of Rupert news here. And what about Helen of Troy first question is what the heck did they do and you question is why are they up 14%. So while on the on the trader at her whole lot of you know household products so brawn exit it was either of those. It is biggest temperature using your house and they've reported desperate profit of buck eighty cent per share that beat estimates that a buck 46. Revenue is above forecasts and they saw a big surge in online sales witches. It surprise for you know one more traditional group Stewart had a company like these folks. And yeah just very strong sales from their quote leadership brands which include the bra on fixed and well. So stock is up about 14%. Outstanding thank you Mike. Mike Armstrong with Wall Street watch on Friday we learned that 600000. Americans joined the workforce during the month of June. And started actively hunting for jobs this is coming out of the Labor Department jobs report that was released at 8:30 on Friday morning. What is the significance. Of 600000 people reentering the workforce. Not too much since the previous month we saw about 300000 drop out so I I look at you go back and forth and and realistically right now if you look at the number of people not in the labor force today if you look at the participation rate in the labor force. We're 62 point 9% today. A year ago we heard 62 point oh okay so. This is likely a one month fluctuation is my guess just because we haven't seen any meaningful progress here in about two and a half three years right now if we kind of stuck structural dealing. I think about. A decent portion of it today is structural and just as you have more boomers retiring in you have new workers coming into the workforce so if you look today. There are 95 point five million workers out of the labor force to million more than we had a year ago. But that's because you have more boomers retire refuted 101000 today yet you you. You you have three million baby boomers a year that are retiring effectively. And that's just something that's very difficult to overcome when we have birth rates as low as they are today it's we're simply not keeping up. With nearly even with employer numbers dwindling numbers wage increases haven't been greeting. No it's it were right around two point 7% year over year continues to be. Some would baffling how wages are not higher by the way I saw something great over the the holiday weekend what's that so I was I was over on seacoast. Tea and it was a McDonald's is that for summer jobs it was saying look we want temporary help for the summer. Thousand dollars signing bonuses for summer job you don't get it until Labor Day. You you get it on the back end after the US is still in it but they were saying look we're paying and I think it was he was either thirteen or fourteen an hour but thousand dollars signing bonus. As free meal every shift. And officer and a night it is there's a new used to do and is it. Yeah and that's one way to fat you rack up some pounds that the Indy shifty got a for the you can order what you want to do you get anything that you want there are Agilent there's dollar menu. Very different in my day they ate at a PG get a milk shake but I think you could get. You know reasonable meal cheeseburger or hamburger big Macs openly. Hit the the other thing that you know terror remembers we've got more job openings then we have. People unemployed actually looking for work I still think that's the fascinating crunch this year is going to be October through December when all of the big shipping companies need to staff up gal in. I don't know how they're going to do with this is about Amazon had a nice that there's. Bend to what I don't know how they do with still see those billboards around the ever driven around you see the Amazon warehouse built for gas in their their pain. I asked when I saw thrown for sixteen and our that was the night shift radio. I don't think so yeah. But you know you're talking sixteen dollars an hour. It's a night shift granted but health insurance pension forward to elect the the whole shebang. And and they're evidently having difficulty at sixteen bucks and now. I feel like that would be if if you're going through lake looking for summer jobs college kid. I would prefer doing that job. To roofing now. Well the distinctive body you're you're you're. Finished up high school in you don't have the money to go to college. Go to go to work and aims unity there's a job for that at any. Folks as we get older estate plan and it becomes that much more important. To put my first name at the beginning of your tax questions message. Barry BA RRY. So Tucker I've decided I'm ready to put another prediction on the production board now now now get my Japan and neighbor host it's ready to I got the answer you and I'm still pulled an opera now. So it's varies little later Da Bears. All right so put this on the production board Tucker I'm going to be your Social Security pay increase for retirees people who work collecting their Social Security. On January 1 of 20:19. I am predicting today it is in July 9. I'm gonna predict that that increase will be 3% or greater. And I four I'll go I'll go out and live Hussein to be between three. And three point 6%. But at least 3% from surgery will be going to see the increase. In social security and joked that's. Darned good increase what's your Social Security check. Is 2000 bucks a month yep U three. And caught three and a half percent increase at seventy bucks. Except for a lot of people that's going to be eaten up by yeah increases in Medicare premiums well some of them will be ranked yeah we don't know how personally it's about 11100 bucks a month so security that was thirteen. The track. Remember check lock yet for what did you find out on the council get distracted. That's another tab open. They the average of security check I thought I was like thirteen fourteen but it any rate for the first time. Years. The increase based in and we're just basing it on in inflation data that we look at. They use a different inflation indexed for calculating the Social Security increase. In the CPI it's called the CP IW something. And and ending studying that index. It would lead me to believe. That the increase. Is still early it's only July 9 but I still think. You're gonna see it at least a 3% increase in Social Security benefits may be a size three now. Some good news were both right on this no one has to be wrong. Among all the workers collecting a Social Security check the average is about 11150. Dollars per month okay. When you strip out disability workers people claiming on SS DIA goes up to thirteen forty months or both right in the retiree bent the retiree benefits got plenty undermines the SS DIE worker. Recipients also get attacked yes you know for the first time the job market is so strong for the first time in American history. We are seeing people come off of Social Security disability income. If you'd never seems to use you're seeing it decreased the last couple quarters now you've seen it decreasing simply because you are seeing. I think in an awful lot of jobs that are out there. They can be filled up. See the last time I saw something like this was back in 19992000. You guys are too young to remember but. Back in those days I remember we are trying to higher office help and I think as a receptionist. And this woman came in to interview for the job. She was wearing. A a white T shirt that had food stains on it. And and and she wanted to know if there is a signing bonus if she came to work force was there. There was not. And and we. We didn't hire but that's how tough the job market was in 19992000. That was fueled largely by new Internet bubble. Job market I think is largely being fueled by a retiree Bob I think you've got this huge wave of retirees that are coming through the system. And I think a lot of jobs are going begging simply because. They can't find people either willing or capable of doing those jobs. What's going to be interesting is for the last. 34 years we've been talking about this wave of automation that's coming yeah and saying all the answers to know her workers. We may actually see somewhat of a balance here now because of the net the sheer volume of retirees that are leaving. The workforce right now and the lack of new workers coming in simply because you didn't have as many kids in this next generation. While the the other thing though is they they talk about automation but it creates other jobs in daytime you have technological improvements going back you know. Hundreds of years. You know eat you reference how many people worked in agriculture in 1910 and how many working right now those people than just die off they went and took different job nobody. It was also a more gradual transition you know that was an eighty year period where you lost 80% of all those farm jobs. You could see a ten year period where you lose 80% of all taxi jumps you know. Now you primary you know it's it's the question is can we move quickly enough and the problem is humans are really bad change like aids. We just we don't do what we're not arguing that. If you worked as an electrician all your life. And then at age 58 he tell you where you can't be an electrician anymore you now have to be an anesthesiologist. You're not gonna do it. Right now it is just it it's a heck of a career move though a bit like a person and it's easy to he's the the ability to do right. You're if you're working as a taxi driver today and they Sadie will the only job available is to work the night shift at an Amazon where house. You may or may not be physically capable working you see the people that work in an Amazon warehouse government and Iran though that they're not small later there there ripped me you. There Joaquin. Buddy it's very Armstrong and I'm joined by estate planning attorney Todd but ski. From the law firm of Cushing and dole and for your legal exchange quick tip of the day we're talking about Medicaid. Irrevocable trusts Todd. And one of the concerns that I hear from listeners is that. People are afraid of giving up control to their trust the when they use these durable global trust. Is that in fact a valid concern. It is not a valid concern but that's not a good enough answer let me help you understand why it's not. First and foremost. Their concern is that way because they're not serving as trustee right and they can't if they want the protection. From the nursing however two things they need to remember. One. During their life. 95%. Of the things that need to be done with that trust. Will be done by them so they can still make the investment decisions talked to the financial advisors to make the investment decisions like our house yeah so. So all of this stuff can be done by them that. There's only about 5% of the time that we need a lawyer. Or is that not a lawyer the trustee to do anything is a trustee opt in one of the children idiots it is and so that's another good point that it normally it's a child. And the last thing that number two reason you don't have to worry is they retain the right to remove and replace the trustee anytime they want. So there really still what the boss that's nice folks if you'd like to learn more about the top misconceptions. Regarding Medicaid durable global trusts. Other shares have traded as low as 249. Dollars a share in the last 52 weeks but they're trading at 351. Today chuck and they had big movement in their share price on Friday due to an announcement breeze related to an alzheimer's drug. Yeah and the the drug was it's it's called beat a and two for one it's still in trials at this point than but it had failed in its original goal of beating out a placebo treatment. Over a twelve month treatment but when they were to eighteen months worth of data from the phase two trial. They said that one dose of the tree to the highest level that they tested. Actually had a significant effect on both cognition. In the accumulation of some plaques in the brain that are believed to cause alzheimer's so this caused the the to the drug company to rally significantly on this news. Obviously. You know there is a ways to go from this to actually getting to a treatment for alzheimer's. But potentially it's promising they haven't released any of the underlying data to some top line numbers to this point. But. If if this ends up being something that even if it doesn't cure alzheimer's which it's unlikely to but even if it just slows the progression of the disease. That's something that has a meat like you think about what that does too and take away just that the financial side. When it does to families who you know all timers today and you you get that guy notice. You get the diagnosis and it's it's you you're you're done and it's late but just hear your quality of life suffers but it's more. The quality of life of your loved ones also suffers. It's issued this has the potential if you can just slow the progression I don't know how what did they haven't said how much it would slow by but. If you can even to slow at 102030%. You know that's that's you're talking about adding you know years of quality life to someone's life. I wonder if there any other companies besides Biogen mean Biogen has trees are invested an awful lot of money in in research on this line. If I I don't know. Who the other companies are that are big players in this field it's it's one of those black holes where you know company. Thinks they might have. A cure because it works in my serve works in EO chimps but then they try to arguments and it doesn't work and that's the this. Area alzheimer's has just been an area where. Drug companies have lost at all. An awful lot of one in you've seen a couple companies that have moved out of alzheimer's research just as a civil we can't figure out what's going on here you know I've ethical was. Pfizer earlier this year's civil court we we can't get there like we we don't know what is. Actually going to be successful and they pulled a lot of their funding for alzheimer's research now. He'll be I'll be curious to see eat you know who the eventual winner is or. If if there's always a winner in that segment during my lifetime that's not a given to me it's if any progress in alzheimer's. It the eye view would very similar to how I view. Fusion power and that there either of the quote on both of them as well they're always ten years away you know it's it's perpetually oh wait and for the next ten years now. And we've never gotten there with this you you've seen meaningful progress in cancer usually meaningful progress in heart disease and in all these other areas. Alzheimer's we have nothing now we we have next to not only be done things with stroke victims which I know is not alzheimer's but they've the they've made advancements and technology for treating stroke victims so. It in there aren't as we still don't know how to pick the brain works now you know you talk to any good anesthesiologist Ehrlich. I try the best I can and hope they wake up right that's that's kind of what they say when it's all said and done well on the old. You are right the tougher it is the under the knife yeah you may not we like you may not come out of the anesthesia in the same state. Pay big rally on Wall Street today the Dow was up 238. Let's first talk about the differences between load in no load funds what to those terms actually mean. Yes when you talk about a load you're talking about compensating someone for the sale of that mutual fund. There are a lot of different options when it comes to these but. Typically the most common is just an upfront load that you and paint the advisors so if you put 101000 dollars into a mutual fund that. Mutual fund may charge you 45%. Expand gets paid to the eyes. In a no load fund you don't necessarily have that upfront fee but you still do not operating expenses each year just because the fund has paid to poisoned so force you do it Syria let's say just go to fidelity dot com and pick up one of their mutual funds. You might not be compensating. And advisor sales person for recommending that fond of but fidelity has their expenses that they are running in the air still charging new it's all detailed and expense ratio that you every year what is a typical expense ratio on a mutual fund these days I would really hesitate to give a typical because it varies so much an NC funds as low as. Glad to have above board and just thrilled to be in for now we're ready view get rocked and rolled in at the get a whole lot of really good things to talk about today we sure do some of them specific to Florida some of them. Specific to money but it'll always be related to your pocketbook. Our poll question today if you would care to participate in it. He's did you marry a younger woman actually that's what I wanted to our poll question to be in Parker wouldn't let me what did you make me change our poll question to Tucker well because oh that the poll question is right now is who is younger in your relationship the man or woman right. Rate I was has eliminated 50% of our audience yes minor detail. All right so it was thus far 21%. Error the younger person in the relationship as the man indeed 70%. It's. The woman. The only reason this came up as a topic is women despite having large career gaps. Art tend to be less prepared for retirement and part of the reason John is. They retire at a younger age than men because they usually Mary in the and that's what three years old. Usually two to three years older but then women tend to live two to three years longer than men and so they may have a five year longer retirement. Than men do in some cases and so. When you talk about okay yet trying to get ready for retirement different aged or something that you have to conceptualize and in really plan into that process there are so. If you are me and in some cases we see people that are PO 57 years younger than their spouse and that's where planning really starts to get interesting because you know it's it's completely different ball game. But he'd like to participate in the poll go to financial exchange showed dot com and he can weigh in. If you want to text the program are tech's number is 63566. If you're new to texting into the show put my first name at the beginning of your text message it's buried BA RRY. Some South Florida industries chuck are a little bit nervous about the trade. Yeah and it really depends on the specific industries and businesses that you're talking a boat number of of both manufacturers. In South Florida they do a lot of business overseas. Are concerned that this may have been driving up the cost of their goods overseas and impacting. Their sales and so you have a number of these both manufacturers that are sitting there saying. It is this could end up you know impacting our sales into the UK or to the Virgin Islands are you know wherever might be. But on the other hand you have some industries that are saying hey we actually think there's a good thing is that might reduce competition for us there was a the the southern shrimp alliance that's based in TARP and springs said paper we actually want to have these tariffs imposed because we don't think the trip that are coming over from China are as good men on this might actually. Keep some of that inferior product. Out of by the hands of American consumers so it's. It's kind of this tightrope that these companies are trying to walk here because. On one hand they want to be able to sell their goods. In his many places as possible on the other they sit there and say. We don't really want to you know we we don't really want additional competition coming in if we can avoid it. And so they're trying to figure out OK how we take advantage of you know what he's going to be somewhat of a disruption of their business and try to still you know make as many. Sales is the camp Florida economy is very similar to the New England economy and that it's strong right now yep and if you gonna have a trade war. And you gonna have a negative impact on some of your industries this is probably as good time to have it happens and it is in note if you're going to take a look at it that there's never a good time to have because there is war because it is always raises costs for. Both you know producers and eventually consumers. But if you're sitting there saying look we just pushed through tax reform we've got a little bit of extra slack in the economy and this is the time where you can detect potentially take some chances here. But you'd still like to see resolved sooner rather than later so you can you know make the sales that you want me. When you're on vacation chuck the president reached out to the king of Saudi Arabia and asked him to increase. Oil production in Saudi Arabia. And that could go along way towards filling the gap but the problem is Saudi Arabia only has so much excess capacity. Some feel that Iran is really the crux of the issue and if we can work things out of Iran oil prices would come down. As being unlikely that we're going to work things out with Iran anytime soon North Korea it's it's just you know with with. John Bolton you know having a fairly significant position in the White House I don't think you've Tennessee resolution with Iran. But I don't think you need one now and in the reason why. Is I continue to think that the US shale producers today have the home so efficient and so quick to spool up their their rigs when they need to debt. There's a whole bunch more oil that you can produce in the United States. Reasonable cost that I don't know if you need to feel that the gap with a permit issues easing temperament and I do in the reason why look at the last two years were we've gone to eight point three million barrels day up ten point nine million barrels. You know that that's that 30% increase in Spain and in over two years and lower prices at lower prices and so there and I say. If UC oil prices get up 77. 8283 dollars a barrel. I think there's a whole bunch of oil in the United States that you can pump out at those prices now lower prices and year to date. Consider canned a much more and it is interesting because they don't have quite the same supplied in terms of shale resources they have a lot more oil and tar sands and things like that. In those two up higher cost then what you have. On the sale sign in the shale guys are so efficient right now. That I mean in a lot of cases you've got cost down in the 4555. A barrel range they can make a boatload of money stays in the 7580 spot. Problem is a lot of the OPEC countries get the ground for. 1012. Yeah and that's. That gives them such a competitive advantage in terms of pricing. If it does but. I don't think you're going to steer resolution with Iran anytime soon and I I just I can't see that happening in the next six months a year. Really the deadline is November that's the deadline that the trumpet ministries says outlook. If you are not. Effectively imposing sanctions of your owner following through one or sanctions with Iran then we're going to view you kind of being in league with them and I just don't see China Russia and some of those other countries pulling away. He would increase production the ability. Don't know I don't know how much slack there is in Russian increased production. I mean. Kind of comes back to you know the Lotta people say well will Russia increased production will Iran or Venezuela. It's not so much the government. In many instances it's the companies or are they willing to say okay will. Will invest a 500 billion in this project may be there's a lot of reticence towards that based on the volatility. In pricing. And the other question to still you know keep in the back your mind and the other thing to pay attention to is what China does because China has become the world's biggest importer of oil. And that that is potentially shake up how these markets and applying oil and natural gas yep so watch those very closely over the next. Six months or so because China has been trying to do a whole bunch of things to shake up the energy market over the last really two to three years now. And they may finally be in a position to do some so watch what they do pretty closely over the second half. This year would be interest in reaching. House money Wall Street is raising more cash than ever for its rental home gambit boy. I wonder if we haven't reached a bubble in real estate prices when they see story like this. What's happening here folks whose hedge funds and private equity firms and investment banks are raising money from their customers. And then there is so they they meet rate they may raced 250 million dollars in the in the go out borrow another 759. Dollars. In the law by houses and then ran them. And pretty much what they're saying is an in these are not you know home for college kids deliver elders are single family home the Beazer you know solid sized single family homes that you know they're trying to rent out to pretty wealthy people to be completely honest they're they're buying them in good neighborhoods with good school systems. Because they're targeting. The family. That for whatever reason is not gonna buy a house but still wants to live and that's good schooled extra you know what I'm I'm surprised hasn't cropped up actually a thing about this over the last week. There are a lot of people in their sixties and seventies that are looking to sell their properties. A lot of them don't really want to have any maintenance or anything going forward. And we see these people you know a lot of them move into you know condominiums or town home veterans like that. But I'm surprised there isn't a more robust single family rental market for people in their sixties and seventies and yes something along those lines has at times you get you know you're 75 you say. Wanna mobile on any right and I gonna have to clean the daughters tackle well latter what the heck am I doing that now line here and so I I wonder if that could be an area that potentially gets targeted the question is. You know where you where exactly do you do it but one of those people they don't wanna pay high taxes so they don't want to be in areas with good schools systems necessarily. Could you fines you know towns that may be of been a little bit depressed and don't have as good schools and say. Let's let's take over there and maybe see if we can you know build some cheap single family units there and get BO people in the sixties and seventies to move. Figured you might have by the way have you guys seen the trailer for. The new Neil Armstrong movie no. Who's and it it's got Ryan Gosling is Neil Armstrong is oaks and he looked just about identical play again and I looked up close like. They really dress him capital on the net pull the Neil Armstrong depiction I was like. That's why that but it's it's called first man it's gonna be out this October I think it's come Oscar buzz past and it looks. Awesome it's directed by Damien Gisele who did whiplash. Daria and lash was phenomenal and it looks awesome it's got a great cast Ryan Gosling Claire for a Kyle Chandler. Like it's it's loaded with talent so. It's on eight I. I still go with that quiet. Clinton isn't the real quiet by violence in the movie that terrify you so much you can't say it's named after him about traumatized. The quiet place. Legacy schools. They tend to legacy preferences complicate college and you went to Dartmouth College yes what is their legacy policy. Couldn't tell you I was no legacy no no no no but it's in jails are they let me and generally some colleges Morse president let me out. Our. That's always the hard. I think that in the easy meg and I'm gonna finish who at Princeton University legacies are admitted. At four times the general rate or 30% compared to 7% overall so. If you're old man went to Princeton you got a pretty good shot I get new same thing with Harvard Harvard is even worse Harvard. I think the numbers were like. Five times that. Better chance to get into Harvard if your home and there and gives a lot of money is not to give him yet that in order get your kid into the schools yet to give a lot of money to schools. Yet the argument is that you know it's a it's a way that you can encourage alumni to give because of they have a strong track record of giving them and so yeah we'll weakened relegate your kid in down the road. It's. You know I don't know where I stand on this I thought a lot about it and on one hand I see okay if if you don't have. Any real incentive for someone to give back to as like. Obviously we know the people wanna give just because they sell what had a great time there. But in the back of everyone's mind is well maybe my kids on the there and I wanna just give them every advantage that you know possible in terms of getting in. I think that you have to have some you know legacy waiting but I don't know for two B four times as much as you know the general population. While the schools I've always liked it my favorite college in the country in the the one that I have the most respect for. There's always been MIT in I didn't know but MIT has no legacy policy be they could care less. Year old man could've done MIT your grandfather could go on dammit did you want to wrestlers they can get. They give zero wing eating. To. Your lineage if you will and I just. I I understand the whole mindset you know trying to build the endowment in Harvard. Nobody's got a bigger endowment that Harvard you know very if I know it does right so they the it's it works. But eat it death definitely has the impact. Of Dodi ear you're if you're not bringing in the best students when you have legacy. No immediate need your year. Choosing that student based on you know something other than purely there academic quality and as you said Harvard does have the biggest endowment at 34 and a half. Billion dollars so it's absolutely massive like two billion is considered a really large endowment for here's the thing though so you mentioned MIT right now. I teases seventh biggest now. Thirteen billion they don't have any legacy so if if you look at that you know it's did not doing badly because you know I'll MIT gets a lot of their money. Nerves back with their birthday Bakley these companies yet they have really Smart nurse that they know they go there I'd they have they have the best guards in the. I understand that they owned part of the companies that these standards created on camp know via an ass that's what people think. Goes. Maybe an observer to yet is is how much participation MIT absence of these colleges. But they get the best kids from around the globe unity be the Smart the best and the brightest are not at Harvard the best and the brightest are at MIT. To MIT he's their professors better. I don't know but not when you include all the numbers Parker who dictator librarians and he'd be the MIT of music library to be pharaoh you know that that they're not dealing with you know Blue's Clues and stuff like that it's in they get the heavy hitters in there. And I'm grown now nothing like us doctor hey well listen we have doctor shoes up at Dartmouth so we actually have a doctor whose room in the library. Let that you do we we certainly do your frequent visitor. Moscow nap time. And it may end. Swarms feeders with 76 million dollars. For Walt this. Yeah a little bit below expectations here domestically at 76 to about 85 million overseas to open so about a 160 million combined. It didn't get very good reviews critically 86% on rotten tomatoes which is very strong in the first demand was well reviewed as well. What you know a stake in the unit talk which last time you saw Paul Rudd and anything. Yeah that's been a while it's Mela kind of dropping off the map for a few little bit of a break it feels like yeah I've I wonder if there was just some poets Paul run I wonder what he's been up to but. And I also do wonder if there's a little bit of marble fatigue Newton the other thing is just so many comic book movies and look it's it's still gonna do when it's all said and done 56700. Million dollars. But I just wonder if there's a little fatigued just as you had black painted it you know did all kinds of good numbers back in February venture to you at avengers and made it broke just about every record out there and trying to see where it is. Where it's at right now. Yup up next will be talking about America's favorite fast food restaurant can you guess which one it is. They ticket that's next on the financial exchange. And Michael Lotta times people look at the sales load they Payer they look at the expense ratio on a fund. But they don't realize there are other expenses built into a fund what kind of expenses do we see in addition to the once people know well. The biggest one that usually gets left out is something around the trading costs of mutual funds. And a few years ago the SEC pretty much came out and told the mutual fund companies that. Because these costs are so complicated. To calculate. They are not action required to disclose them in the operating expenses so if you look at a fund that trades a lot. And by that I mean turning over the portfolio may be hundred or 200% a year. Those costs can be significant. Are there any types of funds that typically have lower turn over rates that don't trade is much of that you can get a better deal absolutely I mean when you look at that. Basics of trading how much 100 vs another. Usually an index fund trades a lot less than an actively managed mutual funds are for instance you can buy an index fund. That just replicate the S&P 500 that's gonna have a lot less turnover than an actively managed large cap mutual fund in case it's. Folks beyond just the headline numbers there are other expenses associated with owning mutual funds and they are strong advisory group has put together a guy on these expenses. It's just delicious little lower than there is like you know. OK you know what they have I go to McDonald's overture you know what I go to KFC overture you've been to chuckle I have been TrueCrypt Diana west for you know what they do you have the best of out of any fast food restaurants that chicken. The service. Their employees or of the best I've ever seen at a fast food place really I don't know pitched training I don't know if it's compensation I don't know but structure. They have the nicest and most attentive employees I have ever seen. Any fast because all of their stores there. Franchise zone right now the owner stay in and on the fourth there right he's trained in it in Andy's interview it in honestly and a lot of chick please you go there in the owner will certainly they're out they're behind the counter. Case may yet their franchise deal is different it's it's a very inexpensive franchise to buy you wanna buy it AAA franchise it's fraction of the cost of McDonald's but your kickback. To the company is much larger. And to say is 15% that. I I don't remember the exact numbers but I remember looking at. Franchise opportunities that you wanted to buy say subway Dunkin' Donuts or McDonald's or triple to. Yeah chick chick filet you can buy. Usually it's only 45000 dollars. We have to demonstrate in net worth of what 700 U you do have to have a significant net worth here's the other things they get 20000. Franchise he inquiries each year they accept 7580. So you have not many of them in the northeast. They've they've spread more about Florida the bottom floor of his on Florida Georgia like that whole area. They beat out there. And arrows number two winners have food there is not fast food through that meat should be on the list. That they beat out panera. Their services. Phenomenal that are bred. Really really gets her especially since they put in their problems are still hunger the mobile ordering when I go to dinner and he has ever been to Texas road house now know they came in at the top of the full service restaurants. You try Texas wrote there really chargers drove violence that was one that doesn't count. He beat you can't drive by and experience the purity is if you'll have an idea what you like meet right if you like. Who like me ponying primary back off the place that you know it's just. It and it and it's hundreds other places that are better than Texas Roadhouse bro we haven't and a PC unit bid. I need to pull this look I wanna see what got worst now what. LSU was the worst place all the worse yeah I'll hold it up right now to Stella del taco is my guess continue on all of it was up. The Chinese stock market is the worst in the world you know the trade war began last week in earnest right that's when the tariffs went into effect. And make a lot of people are thinking Oates you know to stock market's gonna crack growth stock markets up today 264 points. The Chinese stock market. Year to date is down 23%. And what that tells me is that we are winning the trade war not because our stock markets obtained tender 50% it's not. It's up 3%. But the Chinese markets down 23% which means that investors recognize. That China has a bigger problem with the trade war in the United States I don't know. They're tied as directors lust of going on with the stronger dollar this year as well again looked last year Chinese mark lake. International markets were knocking the cover off the ball where is this you just about every international market. Is down like if you go through and take a look at the international markets are right now this year. Domestically the S&P is up 3% the NASDAQ is up eleven. The Dow was off I think 1% for the year and if you go and take a look international markets and in late pretty much across the board really been able market you wanna look at internationally. France. France so punitive to two here we code tax stock down 6%. Hong Kong down 6% Latin American down 11%. Yemen's track this down 9% and China's 23. Yet China China is taking it on the chin more than any other country out there and largely because of their at the center of these trade. This yet I still think the way to sands is China comes to the table and says yeah we've been stealing your intellectual property and we've been dumping will stop. And and we'll give you a few other things so the president can declare victory I think that's all that players I think the the victory here is going to be. Marginal in on the fringes that that's all you need what do you think comes I think before Labor Day I know a lot most people are saying no it's gonna come. After the mid terms I don't think so I think this happens before Labor Day. Is in it politically what makes the most sense what's the incentive for them to come to the table before Labor Day get a better deal. China can get a better deal if they negotiate before Labor Day if they tick him off. And we make him get hurt in the mid term elections he'll tortured them for the next two years. That's an island if our him I'd I'd give him I'd stick it to them unless they give me your real sweetheart deal. I'd say don't yet to deal here guys say they with Canadians in the Mexicans. There's two ways to do this you're play ball you have to do my labored. You wanna put the speakers to me and just tortured you for the next to a country token. Is it's it's always spam and what do you and it it's not leave camp they'll leave a message and another thing lately is that they're getting a number similar to yours Plano and own. Zip code close to viewers as well I've got a mutual crawl out from myself. Got my father has to reassembling the kind of conversation Jeff insists it's like a look at an iPhone and it says there I'm there in awe of him like. Yeah you got attention on the market for quite awhile now but they've been making some content update now they've got even high performance version. So in terms of what you get here like who is this car geared towards. It in the with a bit of a tough sell because you're going up against a pretty stiff competition in the short label PD in the new Nissan leaf it only offers about a 114 miles of range 170 you'll put our reformers urgent. So it's not the greatest amount of rain certainly compared that the pricing would start at about four I grant you but the kids probably midnight this. Looking he'd be on the inside that we have on the market right now overall are really different car drive really nice looking car. They kind of hit that speaks out when it comes urban mobility really really small but the only comparable over the I'd. To my got a little nervous when you were saying that it was the nicest looking one before you sit on the inside Kazaa. Outside like I'm working out and they've like they've got windows where there shouldn't be windows its slopes where it should who drew this one up. If BMW wanted to be pretty aggressive and independent car the same thing for the I eight as well what is there plug in hybrid only car both the cars look very different from anything else on the road the FBI three a little bit of a cut on the outside but the inside is actually really interesting a lot of recycled materials and kind of that this really seeing. College between now like dark metros and who later smoother. Mature fashion very nice the only side. Be on the outside maybe not her. How does it does stacked up performance wise is does this drive more like a Prius are more like a tussle. I'd somewhere between actually confusing it's got a 181 horsepower that equipment that's pretty quick in 200 computer talks total accelerate really really well and also rear wheel drive which is interest in. A chemical that more dynamic cooling equipment like the Prius. But still overall it's not the quickest court now going to be keeping up with a mullet by any means or even probably a model re. And it is a little bit of a difference or designed to do you naturally ball so it doesn't quite have the same internal corporate. In terms of one of the things you always see on on luxury cars usually that the maintenance bills are ridiculous there there are incredibly high. With no electric bill I'm guessing BMW doesn't make a whole lot on the service probably pretty cheap to operate. Absolutely that's one of the beautiful things that he vetoed it really is hardly anything to do you kind of rotate the tires and that's about it so you may just cost this would be really really low compared to something else it would need oil changes and transmission is that the. As far as looking at any downsides what what stands out to you is there anything that isn't great with the vehicle. Biggest concern is simply be met arranged that you get for the amount of money that is spending again starting price of about 45000 dollars for a 114 mountain Max range. If you look at somebody like this year relive old you're looking at a cost closer to about 37000 dollars for about 240 model Rachel twice the range. For even less money in many elite is even cheaper at about 30000 dollars 400 to do in mountain range that's probably the biggest drawback. BMW are going to have additional records coming on the next year to. Absolutely we're expecting to see more in the near future they are lagging a little bit. And Audi and the competitors really lining up their big EU launch is for next year. BMW was pretty early in the that I read I hate but now it seems like there waiting a little bit before they release the second generation TVs. Probably see more next year or. Released around two point. Very good Tim thanks for the time. But Eric. Tim Stephens from CNET roadshow talking about the 28 team BMW I read. It will be texting to see how the Germans do with battery technology unity German engineering has been renowned for a hundred years securities always had strong engineering departments. It's always been on the mechanical side than the the electrical as more problem with British cars mean British cars are and are notoriously. Bad with their electrical systems. But with German it's always been what we're we're really precisely what we make and so force. I don't know if they have you know Corey batteries or anything silly. What that is the detest the whether they can compete with battery technology but it 45000 dollars for this car you buy Tesla for that. If you wait a couple years I don't know how long it they're cranking out 5000 we now he's still got about a year year and a half way now so if you want one right. Now your options I'd a table and I think the Nissan. Makes the most sense and then there are next versions Nissan leaf is gonna have an even bigger battery. So you know 1000000200 miles down and that. I think that's gonna make niece on kind of the the top EB. Out there because you'll be able to get them they'll be inexpensive in the over 200 miles on charge. Markets are rallying son of a gun at the Dow Jones industrial averages about 261. Points and NASDAQ is up 39 points. Russell 2000 is up seven. And you know what price of boils down 29 cents a barrel at 7351. In goal somebody an old gold's up six bucks an out of 61. We'll see you tomorrow folks right here on company to change.
