This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chunks of you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and up today about an economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. Bloomberg has a man. Managed to dodge a bullet in their London licensing case for a talk about what that means for the companies they prepare to go public. Oil prices are rising sun of a gun and I drove by. Charleston gas station on the masked by this morning in 03 gallon of regular unleaded. And then finally we're gonna take a look at credit scores across the country hi everybody it's buried chuck. Broadcasting today from the crest EU country club it is it is beautiful I was at a view like this struck back Kirsten. Bad. Oh it's unbelievable meeting eke it out here it's just everything's green you've got golfers mostly hitting good shots I've seen a couple bad ones though but mostly coach Johnson just a a great and we wonder if we get the player round I know I afternoon I'm curious I guess I got nine in the are right. Well let's take a look at have a conversation as a relates to numbers the last night we get the word that. They survived in London there had been speculation that they were not going to be allowed to continue to provide. Ride services in London England is a big deal I mean London itself represent about 5% of their business. Internationally. If it doesn't the big thing that you saw was one that had effectively suspended Cooper's license to operate there. Back last September and so there cast or shot even new CEO at Hoover to divert different approach that Hooper had previously taken. If you look at how Travis polemic it run over they pretty much would go into markets and and say look we're not asking for permission to do this were asking for forgiveness were gonna come in start operating and then we're going to effectively force. Counties and municipalities to say look. We need to allow Cooper operate because otherwise our constituents are gonna get all open arms and it's it's not gonna be good for us. What cats were shot he's doing is a different tack were saying instead of going in in forcing markets to accept us. It will actually work with you and give you some concessions and try to figure out there really what works. For us and also what works for the town the city or. Or the state in this is the top of the city in this case they ate a big. Part of the issues in London where the drivers some of these drivers were criminals in the mirror imaging passengers you know. And we've covered stories weather being India Boston. Throughout the country where drivers that raped some of the customers of Hoover. Well and in one of the big things that is you know that's come out to all of this is that the initial background checks that number was doing in the past. Five years ago and they simply were not up to snuff they weren't strong enough. And the other issue was that they weren't necessarily do them on an ongoing basis to make sure that people hadn't gotten into trouble after they were already Hooper drivers. So what you see your suit tighter restrictions as far as who can become a driver. US restrictions on how many hours these drivers can drive now so is did not compete too much with the taxis that are in service and so forth. But it's. It's both are kind of playing nice here which is something it's different for community. They didn't really do this at all previously used to be hey this is a sport culminating you're gonna operate under our rules. An underpass or shock you this is kind of that the first peek sign that there really playing a different game now saying. Hey we need to change our image because that matters to. Is this pretty stepping stone for them to go public next year yes. Apps is that they are trying to get all their ducks in a row so that all of the bad publicity about the end of the trans Atlantic air what you're talking about. The sexual harassment in side of who or whether you're talking about Atlantic you know yell at a new driver you know all the different pieces that are there. As a shy is saying look I am putting my stamp on this company. And we're going to have a solid two year track record being good citizens and we're gonna have all that stuff. It's the debate IPO talk about 67 billion dollar company that the question I have is how much money they actually try to raise in that IPO and you know realistically you probably don't wanna give away more than ten to 15% of the votes that's in seven to ten billion dollars. Evenly with their burglary that only gets that may be eighteen to 24 months like it's it's not a huge runway well but I think that big question their truck is how much longer to pay drivers. I think awhile now I I don't think their driver Lewis uses ups off now than he knew they had to pull off the road. Now they they're pretty far beyond its almost as if they need to do partnership with him. Would that be something. You know so. Wave over members doing well what I. They were one of the first investors knew they were one of the earliest investors there and then they kind of had this parting of ways they realize that there were new and different things going on and in any one necessarily you know. Go to the same route Cooper was going. It'd sure be something if Hoover had a kind of crawl backed away moments today. That's the way we need easy technology a borrower few cars every now and then you know it it would just be something that you wouldn't have expected even just a year ago. But the price of oil history and impact that business and oil today trading little count up another dollar 28. It's 71 ED one. And I we should talk about because the the reason oil prices are rising is that. The trumpet administration. As being tough on Iran tougher on Iran than had previously been expected. And what it's doing is. The sanctions we have placed against Iran. Is the stopping America from buying any of Iran in its oil. But it's also stopping other countries are doing businesses and largely bank's financial institutions do not want touch Iran right now. What stopping them if they want to follow these sanctions and in this is the big question because China India and Russia have all come out saying. We don't plan on following these new sanctions and what the drug administration is signals that hey as of November. You what we are going to start going after countries that are in violation of these sanctions and that could mean you know sanctions on Titanic meets extent India and Russia and anyone buying oil from Iran. And this is a really. It's somewhat of a gamble and because you already have tensions between the US and China. You have China now as the biggest importer of oil in the world they demand more oil from external sources than any other country they surpassed the US and they're not going to be told by the United States that the not a lot to buy it from Iran well in and the other thing to remember in march of this year. China set up their own oil futures exchange which previously that try this couple times before and it has not been very successful advocate we don't trust the haven't been able to get volume have been able to get. But if you're saying look we are the biggest importer now we don't want to be tied to the dollar anymore on this. They made kind of break with the US on this and say look we're just gonna handle things in our occurrence that you can't sanction. Or going to you know make me a pivot here in this has the the potential to really shake things up. In terms of how global energy markets work. And it's something that everyone needs to be aware of heading into this fall because this is potentially the biggest shift in global energy market since the seventies we're seeing. Predictions of eighty dollars on the price of oil which would be 353. On us talk and probably close to 350 for all. If China decides that they want to move away from the hours the way that they are settling oil. You could see oil norte the media it was a week. The Chinese currency over the US currency think Iran. Yes what what lies or have any incentive right now take the doll every time they've done they've done it's it's it's always in the linguistic when it's all said and I understand that it's still just from an investment perspective. I wouldn't trust the Chinese as far as like throw. But if you're on news as saying geez so every time I try to do business using the dollar. Simple but I can't do it doesn't matter to get that it used order there's another method could be eagle bullion the public as he can almost beat barter because. Well I if if this is nobody try I'm not alone in my. My feelings about China and nobody trusts so this is the genius of how they set the exchange up that could make it attractive. The futures contract that they have is actually backed by gold and it is settled bull unique occurrence. And so you don't have to settle in the Chinese currency could settle in the Euro what you can do effectively is by year go by your oil using yet it's using gold as an intermediary and then settle in the Euro or your local currency if you want to this girl probably what the number two currency globally it is yet about 3035%. Of Forex reserves the dollars about 5650s. But it turns trustworthiness. Yeah but the Euro zone problems in the mean that's going on about a week with Euro zone leaders where. They're gonna try to figure out what to do with immigration in the Euro zone and there's no consensus there yet Germany saying hey we still want to bail out for Leo EZ pass between borders all other countries and we want anything to do witness. And there's some chatter that you may see continued fractures in the Euro. With Italy and it being you know the canary economical line on this there recent elections. The finger at stake you know like that I don't like Payne 350 gallon for gas and natural like Payne 350 for home heating oil. But what it does do and what it has done over the last ten years as inspired. Domestic production and that domestic production. Has given us somewhat of a safety we're not be cold and to our enemies anymore. And and we can buy the vast majority of our energy needs. Either from Canada Mexico or we produced the marshals were probably going to be way to number one global energy producer by the end of the year. We are right now the US does just under and eleven million barrels a day a year ago we are doing nine point three so it was a one point six million barrel a date increase in that time forward dude 1020 years ago here you weird. You know we're fraction of the big thing though and in here's where this gets interesting when when it comes to view of the the overall stability. Can the US trade balance or exporting about 2.3 million barrels day right now okay. At current I Carlos and out of our eleven per price that's exporting a 161. Million dollars a day worth of goods on a quarterly basis which is how we measure trade deficit. You're talking fifteen billion dollars. All of a sudden news in this is why these trade negotiations are so interesting if China says look we don't wanna be buying your oil anymore and they are importing a lot of that oil from us. All of us on the trade deficit goes right up. So it's it's almost moving right and in the opposite direction that we wanted to than. If we were to see that effects of the it's. The US is an eight Petro state is that there's nothing an economy that's it that's not the case we never will be would never Purdue we've probably never produce as much as we need here's the thing though if if we continue to see oil production growing. Within a couple of years oil might be our biggest export. And and that's something that I don't think anyone would expect out twenty years ago. So is your credit score above 700 we're going to be talking about Michael scorching credit scores across the country to me easing. How old their different in various parts of the country the Florida people have terrible credit scores. But north paper good credit scores why well we'll talk about that and more he can participate in our poll today by going to financial exchange showed outcome. You can text us at 63566. And we're here to talk about a brand new product available for landlords it's called Z deposit dot net Jake. What. Terry we created a security deposit product. To really help the problem a lot of blame border facing with security deposits which is. You know one it's time consuming to open the small enough security upon numbers sons now. And yet to go into the bridge yes signed paperwork and their small dollars and Andy turn. And it's certainly the complaints in Massachusetts really tough for landlords and security deposit accounts. You have to give them ten in certain forms when they open up the count and you have to pay interest a new and we should do all this canal through Z deposit all of that you can do Thursday deposit it literally takes about forty seconds to open up an account. We handled the automatic forms that are generated the account number department condition statement all that said lieutenant. And the interest dissent the tenant. Automatically every year. This sounds like something it's going to be very valuable to large landlords it might have 200 tenants and small landlords that might only have five tenths yeah absolutely with a large landlords. It's just a lot of hassle to managed so we make dad very efficient. For the small landlords a lot of them are afraid of nineteen complaints done correctly so some of them some of them don't even like taking security deposits were hopeful that this will help them do that. Folks if he'd like to learn more about C deposit go to their website Z deposit dot net. Or you can call and speak to somebody on disease deposit team it's 7816418691. Securities offered to securities America -- member senator SIPC and advisory services offered through securities America advisors think Gary Armstrong representative Armstrong advisory group in the securities America companies are unaffiliated. If part of the financial exchange in an instant. By texting us and 63566. Started to extra keyword Barry and become a member of our brand new textbooks tell us what you think 24 sevenths right here on the financial exchange radio network. Well the residents of Minnesota. Can boast that they have America's highest average credit scores. But Vermont New Hampshire. South Dakota in Massachusetts they're not lacking either pretty good credit scores there. Begs the question chuck how in Minnesota have an average credit score of 709. In the and you look at Mississippi and son of a gun their credit scores down there are 647. One Minnesota mean if you ever met anyone from Minnesota I have I don't seem any of those people not paying their debt you know that they they're very upstanding they're very polite you know though even if you if you if they don't like you they won't tell you that no so. Not surprising and just based on what you know about Minnesota people I think in general what you tend to see here. Is that states that a tend to have higher levels of education and intend to end up with better credit scores whether that's a result of higher incomes or just no way more understanding more about the financial system I don't know. But it tends to be states that are more educated. On that end up having better credit scores in a lot of cases I was looking through some of the data does not really huge is this not a correlation terms of how many credit lines you have opener out what your balances. But it just seems like people who have higher levels of education tend to for one reason or another. On behalf higher credit scores. Me you lose it if it's curious to see even just in New England. If you look at mean their credit scores are lacking when compared to their next door neighbors in New Hampshire. Yeah you know I just today you look at the disparity. They we're broadcasting today lie from the crest you country club in hagel law Massachusetts. Retail marijuana shops will not be opening in Massachusetts by July 1. Lot of potter it's going to be disappointed well I don't know I think there might be others pirates well this something tells life. But they didn't ebbing of the year and more than years they've had since November. What sixteen. BC news two in the referendum passed. And they should head over a year and a half. I know there's companies ready to go why why why has the state not been able to facilitate the will of the people. Well the big thing is they have not even yet approved a lab to do the independent testing of the marijuana from the different grow facilities. The fact that you're now it what four days away from the supposed to be you are supposed to be reality and you're not you know you don't even have the lab in place in the contract ready to go. Does does it feel like they're kind of slow walking this. Does to me I mean they flew out they had a bye to legislators that flew out to Colorado. City and they've had the Colorado model to follow. And learn from it does mean to have to follow it right verbatim but it beat Pete knew what they're getting into in the had a year and a half. And he's just kind of an example of government. At its worst now not terribly I gotta tell you I'm not terribly disappointed that the shops are going to be opening it enough to binding on July 1 though but it might my point is. He did this is. You know this is an example of government's. Failure. It feels like there. Almost too big to settle it now it feels like that it is in don't normally say things like that but it's like. Your four days away you haven't even old lab to do the test site. That's kind of the basic place where you start I think like you can't even approve other places to settle until you have that in place and I. Talk to people in the business that are ready to go in and have mid medical shops and get in and they will be critical. Of the state because there are fearful of the vindictive nature. Of politicians they're concerned it okay if we go out and say anything critical of the baker administration and they'll understand. But it it's. You figured they have to have something up and running by the end of this year I mean it this has already been delayed by six months at this point. And going further it's just your local drug dealers are happy. Others thrilled. India the competition and you vote last you know it's ironic is it. When they do you start selling it through these and and legally. The drug dealers and so because their prices will be better. They'll still sell but a lot of that most of the demand will and to go through the shops do you think so it won't be as big market on what to what the black market is in Colorado and some of the states as I regret I remember there was a problem because this taxes on it. You know the dealers were able to sell it cheaper. And and sometimes the quality. I mean that there is still a black market in Colorado and no I don't know how the EU's. The risky business you know like if you're if you're gonna consume it so your patterns your doctor or lawyer England club by some campus. You're you're gonna go to pot shop you'll pay the extra 2530%. Because you don't like arrest. Vote in what you end up with Ford you know you're gonna end up with adverse selection for the people go to. Just the guys on the streets don't they can afford it's going to be the people who can't afford to go. To the pot shop and so it'll be you know your your lower income workers are still wants. To get either going to be the ones who BO don't pay the tax and buy the stuff that's actually regulated. In a what you ought to know that your tax dollars are being put to good use. The state has decided they're gonna spend 300000. Dollars training people how to work in the campus business. Music if that made me feel better I think it's a bad use. I think I could be a lot of other thing I'd rather do that by tactically it's great. People to get a job I mean it at the end of the day what like what's the difference if it's you know and and Canada store liquor store. I'd just soon train them to be an electrician or plumber carpenter doctor that just about anything. Else. The EVA cattle look at it is. Being that jobs. Of the employer to train isn't that what white is the state practices spend my tax dollars train somebody had to grow marijuana so our work in a pot so part of. Actually is there at their training a lot of these people on some of the compliance with the new laws because it's cheaper for them to train them on how to follow the law as opposed to having to end up incarcerated than paying them down the road so I kinda look at it from that perspective had rather have people. That you don't know what they're doing is opposed to you know have to pay. Two lucky people in jail but and it's 8300000 dollars it's. Drop in the bucket and it's not enough of that coming up we'll have Wall Street Washington and ordered take a look at the housing market we just got some housing data that. It's good deal and a house not so good if you wanna violence. Life goes on FaceBook and follow us on Twitter. Sochi after being up 7% yesterday on the new spending their health care units spelling that out right and that just went to brother divestment spoke sort of keep key segments their business. They're up yesterday a pretty big erupt again today about 4% on just that continued positive about that news. It looks like we've got a merger going through today as well or at least a merger announcement today between can agro brands and pinnacle who oops. That's right so pinnacle foods famous for the ad the birds die this present vegetables and and active acrid brand simply. Davis for you know different. Prison to a section healthy living types of prisons boot. They announced they're going to be acquiring pinnacle they've been in these talks for awhile. Gil has died about eight point one billion dollars. Technical shareholders are going to be receiving. 43 dollars and eleven cents a share. As well as some shares the combined entity adult when it's also and beyond that either shareholders seem to be terribly excited about this deal connectors down about six and a half percent and technical down nearly 4% of. Very good thank you Mike. Michael Armstrong with the Wall Street watch also a little bit of breaking news on US crude oil stockpiles dropping by ten million barrels more than expected crude oil now up 2% for the day just shy of 72 dollars a barrel. Yeah I mean that's not good news in the union every word on backs three bucks a gallon minority entry. Parts of the parts of the country you know we're we're OK I was at New Hampshire last weekend and it was 275. I don't think yours aren't I haven't I've paid them to have to buy some two morals I'll find out what a little you don't capture if you want. Thought there then you know you've come back that. I'll be paying four bucks before you know. We are live from the crusty country club in ankle on and I wanna talk about note housing sales and we've both regional and national numbers the national numbers for pending home sales effort on the decline. But regionally here Massachusetts. Sales. It and number of single family homes available for sale dropped again in Maine. Yep pending home sales side as you mentioned did decline half percent for the month of may compared to an expectation of an increase of point 8%. And in Massachusetts we continue to see lower and lower inventory levels there about fifty to 300 single family homes. Sold last month in Massachusetts at two point 1% decrease over the same time last year. In the big thing that we see is that you just do not have enough homes on the market to build demand right now. And honestly I see a lot of potential home sellers. That kind of sit now they're saying. She we could sell right now the price is just keep going up so why don't we wait another like amounts I'm seeing some of that that's how we've. That could be a mistake there may you know if you fear thinking about selling need the day I think the bigger. As you know you you think about selling and then. You do you talk to people that say okay are gonna sell my house for finally got a lift somewhere you know and then if you haven't already purchased your replacement property. The replacement property you want might be more expensive than the house yourself. It's the only way it makes sense right now is if that replacement properties out of state. You know if you're moving downs or yards deeper you weren't they are to have that second property to sell on one of them appeared move somewhere else you live in long metal yard by your place on the you know they that. That might make sense. But right now it the number of single family homes on the market. Fell 18% year year and condos. In just talking about in her purse the total look for an inquiry say Okinawa and buy a place. In subpar. He's probably. Eat it's 18% fewer single family homes and 17%. Fewer condos. Most homes hit the market work quickly scooped up single family homes spent an average. Of twelve fewer days on the market while condos averaged seven purity so. If you boost your home for sale. You better be ready to move because it may not take long it eats everything is going quickly right now ultimately much. What a summer scorcher means for natural gas prices hurting I had a bad feeling about my electric bills. I think I think you're the only one on this we are gonna again. Crushed for electricity costs because in New England. Where it didn't matter whether you're in Rhode Island whether you're in Connecticut. New Hampshire Massachusetts most of our electricity now the biggest source of our electricity natural gas. And the prices are going up because stockpiles are. And as we've discussed many times the big problem is that we don't have any transportation infrastructure to get natural gas into the northeast which means that it gets even more expensive and I wanna tell you just how expensive it gets to. This yesterday actually. And so I talk about again as I've talked about natural. Spam and so. There was an interesting thing that I've found where on January force this year which was if you remember back to January notes ninety degrees now from the back in January that was the coldest week that we had this unit we have a negative seven degree temperatures were like you had to leave your boss all the way on to keep it from freezing and things like that. If you look at Nat gas prices in Pennsylvania. There about three dollars per million BTUs about the same as they normally. In New England at that time the cause of the crunch Fareed all this heating demand analysts electric. Nat gas prices were ninety dollars. Per million BTUs because there was no supply coming in thirty times the national average. Our electric rates in general and these are as of 2016. Rio eyes you know always do except for Hawaii the the two states that are the highest. Number three Connecticut number four Massachusetts number five Rhode Island number six New Hampshire the only two states that are in the top five in top six there. Vermont and John Maine which are still in the top ten and all of the New England states pay at least 30% over the national average Massachusetts. Pays about 65% higher than the national average for a lack. So it's disappointing if you see all the solar installation but it doesn't seem to be having much of an impact. It's because in Massachusetts. It's it's cost competitive because of how expensive the other utilities now it's that they're not trying to build solar installations at ten cents per kilowatt hour trying to build in the sixteen because it's still you know it's that's what we can sell that these days. If you want the cheapest gas in the country by the way are not gas electricity and Louisiana and Washington State with the Arizona. Arizona. News. That have electricity there they do it's pretty ugly dude it's actually just above the national average. Ten point three at ten point three cents per kilowatt hour national averages ten to seven give Florida. Caller. Partisan 991. Other states people to go to North Carolina a lot of people moved down there at 920. Would that be where most people like to. But yeah New England. It's not cheap but no the girl. Is wells Fargo's got themselves in some trouble again. They certainly do and this one it's it's they they just can't get away from you know this is bad news that keeps following this is dated back. It is something happened. Anywhere from almost ten years ago to five years it is this was an ongoing investigation by the SEC it's at the between 2009 and what the thirteen Wells Fargo. Reaped some pretty big fees by quote improperly encouraging. Brokerage clients to what actively trade high cost debt products. And that we're supposed to be held all the way through to maturity and so Wells Fargo advisors. Had to agree to pay of four million dollar penalty over this. And also has to return about a million dollars. Of ill gotten gains plus some interest on that is also it's about five million dollars total then that Wells Fargo is paying your not a huge sum of money. But for you know the company has all the ads now that are out saying you know we re sorry 28 team in whatever. It's just you know. He didn't want. Stricter trips to bill yeah you saw yesterday that fiduciary rose dead yes it says yes. In a mixed on that because they've there's one part of me it says okay. Smaller investors might be able to get some advice yeah. The bad part of it is you're gonna have brokers that are doing things for those smaller investors may now be in the best interest. Well and and part of it is you look at this you say look why can't you build a fiduciary ruled that still allows for. Certain types of compensation and properly structured much like its unity. It doesn't have to be an all or nothing approach. Because I do agree that you know if if you are operating under that fiduciary standard you war held to a higher standard he could do some of the things that they were doing in these cases. But the thing that we've talked about before is it created less opportunities for lower asset in lower income people to get the kind of advice they needed him. Fiduciary rule basically me it meant that if you're dealing with the retiree. And there higher rate money you had to only do what's in their best interest in it don't bet with a lot of resistance from the brokerage industry. And the fact of the matter is the way it was structured. Caused. Firms to say I can't take on certain clients they because they just the we can't make money on small clawed. Date the rule has gone away the fear now is will it be damage done to some of the smaller clients. It coming up will be joined by Michael brush from marketwatch.com. You don't well we've got a couple stocks to talked about here yet and I don't interpret do heroin drug dates. Now. But we got that off the table hard streak record aren't. Let's talk a little bit about to the these stocks in which one do you want to start off with. Well I think you know pick pictures we have this every aspect question. Yeah him. The the armed. So we have this so Buick crisis in view maps and and a lot of source air out of sorts with. We've seen issues in our hospital votes surgery. And and you know you'd look at the numbers and she's an amazing number of people. I every year. You know. And you know people. Were these. Surgery and art and so that's kind of big picture should in his efforts to work for sport its age and you know. May make interest rates go up which. So. You know so what Biotech doing that's action that. And so did that the two Biotech companies that we have here looks like it's Cara therapeutics in Tehran therapeutics. Yeah. So specialized so both Eads. Offers some sort of being the he did it. So that's basically what's going on here now our Iran. Is up about 30%. Of problems. On news that it's a girl coming. And make errors that are sent this morning. It's. On these. The drugs. There's a certain morning here copies which agree Boston area. Part company which is actually down a little bit on it and I think that's the one book so I'd like the other two scope that Alkermes I think you'd probably porch. Well. When you look at these companies' outlook gave Cara therapeutics right now it's about a 650 million dollar market cap. On on haren again another you know relatively small companies three billion dollars obviously bigger but is still small compared to the big drug companies. What kind of risk do you take on these companies and what kind of upside is there. Well that's the key question rate and mean in this speak cap area around. There's definitely a lot of respect is more upside to you more a lot of and the ones you know oh lead and being used needs at least once I'd suggest you know winners are. Yep. That. Wedged up Biotech is not done well it really yeah actions speak out. And that's where these. But they don't work out that if they don't work out so you don't warrior barracks. But he wants better and we just took it to two or arming terrorist you know there are up 30% in. Two weeks in event. Terrorists are 18% today during. Their concern. Yeah it was up yeah okay so it's down the open but it was up or perhaps at the so these other kinds of you know didn't get a these smaller market teams. Mike if if if you don't have a Ph.D. in molecular bile acts I don't in which most people don't. How the heck do you make sense of Biotech and generally what what kinds of things do you even look forward to try to figure these out before they pop 20%. In a you know it took me you aren't aren't you figure that out and I think Arab. In my early days. Meaning in the nineties. And it'll a lot of stakes are attacked because it follows route and you know it to there's all of consistent people. And it worked well. But I I have that methodology which tends to workers well and that much right. You do it speeds are. The winners that. Canada movies able to do that and I look war those people seem so when C Roberts it's a Smart card expenditures in pain as restarting. Are quite scenes aren't buying that's hurt. And I look at things like right Terry technology and platform spore on a partner. And there are certain sort of tracks that the F eight all right sir abstracts were drug status and health so I haven't I have about ten things that. When I checked most of those boxes. Oh. I. Very good Michael we appreciate the time today thanks coming on. Cap posted December reps say that rush. Russia on the web these articles I opted to it took there. Rest to show. Great I spending they might Michael brush from rush on the web. And these stocks if you do wanna check there's stickers out all at the stickers on them are HR TX and C a. It's amazing how many of these companies are located in New England Tony I know new Jersey's gotten a lot of them as well. Here you look at a lot of the research being done is being done primarily in eastern masters. As I've said. For New England has the best nerds in the world and that's what you want when you're working on these kinds of problems as you want the best nerds and and that's that's kind of what it comes down to here. You want to really Smart people and. How much longer though will there be the appetite to pay for these high drug prices unity look at some of the you know. The drug over. You know hepatitis C and you look at some of the cystic fibrosis. Drugs at 270000. Bucks a year. I just. In some of the cancer drugs or miracle drugs I mean hey I've got friends that have had their lives saved. But you know can we as a society afford to pay half a million bucks a year to save some. But the big thing that's an ethics question not an economics question the economic good another part the economics that we can't to it but that's not really good answer when you need to save someone's life. In other parts the world they have the Easter the only good that's that's the same way as a. I keep reading about Northern Europe Norway Sweden Finland which they simply simply prefer. For there they see where we we don't think there's enough benefit well what's this what's not gonna cover. What Sweden does that we will never do in the US is they say look at the marginal benefit is not equal to or greater than the additional cost were not going to approve the drug whereas the FDA just says hey as long as it works you can price value want which can base our approval on whether or not it works and is safe. But we're never gonna have suite system. Oil prices are rallying for those of you who own energy stocks she can smile price of oil is up the dollar sixty apparel. But those are you have to fill up your car over the weekend you may not be so. Dow is also a Dow up 254. Point will be back. There's a lot every week had residents and four main buckets. If an immediate annuity where you give insurance company reminding guarantee pension yet fixed annuity which is just a predetermined rate for a predetermined time. It index annuity and variable annuity in those two become a little bit more complicated. When we talk about the different kinds of annuities which ones might be more appropriate for someone who wants to take on a little bit of risk in order to get some additional growth. Well variable annuity typically is one where you take on more risk you're basically investing in different types in the market with some guarantees attached to them. Whereas an indexed annuity you have no potential for a loss. But you have limited upside potential is well in a fixed annuity is probably most similar to what we see with they CDS certificate of deposits except it's not FDIC insured and absolutely correct usually the terms are a little bit longer than a traditional CDU's they won't seat for instance a six month. This is the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and chunks of you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed. And up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chuck Exxon. You're gonna notice higher prices at the as you drive around New England. In the coming weeks here to see that your hand well over three dollars a gallon for gasoline why. Well we'll explain how Iran is involved in those higher prices you will be a process gonna talk about. Like businesses cannot find enough workers we heard about it with contractors you've heard about it with small employers. But that corporations are having difficulty finding workers. Hi everybody it's Berrian chuck broadcasting today buys from the crest view country club and I don't want. We're having a great day view is. Very but unlike the view that we have from our studio. View from my studio is. Or reception desk. Is better this is credible victory Rolling Hills the occasional sank drive you know and it was a good club when they denied me membership so. I. Let's talk about oil. Oil prices rising there up another. Their two point 65%. Today. That I think it's it's going to be three plus per gallon on average. Potentially this weekend especially unit to the fourth of July I I think when you go if you average out the six New England states I think you're going to be three dollars plus because Connecticut's. Yeah I mean Connecticut's. 92 and a half to 81 main 283 Rhode Island to 93. But those. Prices that your quoting. Do not include beef what we got about a 5% bump yesterday and were put another two almost 3% today. Yeah will will be north of three if not on fourth of July by that week after very easily. And honestly this this thing's got a chance to continue to move higher to be completely unlocked here. It it's just you look at the draw down that we have in the US ten million barrels today you look at the fact that OPEC even with the production increase easy product you're talking about her inventory levels in two hours via. So those continue to be drawn down right now. And you're you're just not seeing enough production. To meet demand to be completely honest and so what it means is the good news if you are in the energy sector and you've got jobs for the next six months like that you got lets them lined up you know for the foreseeable future and it fueled those stocks are doing pretty well are you are yet and Chevron in the if you take a look at the energy sector today up one point 9% as the best performing sector in the S&P 500 by a U all in March and today. An and I think there could be some room to run on this is keep mind the other thing with these higher energy prices and this is all happening with the strong dollar. If it's all happening with the dollar up 7% for the year right now so you sit there and say gee if it gives that back. You get to eighty dollar bail barrel gas which gets you to 3.5. 340 write to him I guess the that question news and a number of people with texted in our text number 63566. How is Iran coming into play. See I noticed that Iran's production is down from two point seven million barrels per day down to 2.2. Theoretically that could be headed even lower due to sanctions. The big thing on Iran I don't think that productions having lower you don't I don't I think China Russia and endeared him to continue to buy that gas is they've they think the banks that do business with the middle and on the money they need. Leadership from all three countries has signaled. It is and what that means is the US is threatened to look at you're still buying the stuff from Iran starting in November right we are going to go out and sanction you. All league that has the potential to cause a rapid seismic shift in energy markets that we haven't seen since the 1970s. In China is concerned about it. In which way the sanctions. No I I don't think you can get them their noses at us. China wants to move away from eight dollar denominated world to begin with they've been trying to move that way for awhile ago. This could be the thing that finally pushes them in that direction and gets them to say look we were just we don't wanna do business on dollar terms and. We could be isolating ourselves in the absence right. Big businesses can't find workers we talked about we've talked to. You know I talked to Jim Toledo regularly he's. Morning guy on WHY and and to beat THE he has sponsors to they show. Let's say I just can't find workers whether they be construction nerd health care. Businesses today can't find enough workers I always took the perspective the reason he nipped by enough workers do not enough weight. And that's definitely part of it but I think to a certain extent there are some mitigating factors as well that you know quite frankly. They're just art and off workers out there that can actually performed jobs at this point I think you. If if we want to see 4% economic growth which were probably going to for this quarter but the question is can we consider it their continuation. You have to have more workers available and ready to work in and what that means we've gone through the the labor participation rates for men aged 25 to 54 and we are about how it's alone we've said. We said look we know that we have too many people with old Buick problems we know we have too many people that are on disability we know we have these higher rates of people that are. Working today for one reason or another. In you have to get those people back in the workforce to we've done the math. There are four million men just looking at men not it would just. Four million men in that data in that category 554. That would historically be in the workforce. That art today now coming lower that would take that would fill the gap in an in some of them there's there's you know apportion them maybe thirty to 40%. That either oh now you've got you know more people going to a graduate schools and so they're in school little bit longer you've got some men that are stay at home dads now because that's you know popular thing and everything. But the fact is that there's at least two and a half to three million people out there. That are in the workforce now because of their choosing but just because they've been there just did not in the workforce today. You know what I did see recently which gave meet. Cause for optimism. Was that people are coming off the rolls of disability income and sure they are. The first of the Q if you haven't seen declines in like ten years ever in him to this of this magnitude am sick people are. Saying that qualify for SS EI. And coming off the rolls because they can make enough money at the incentive to come off and they may be in during that time be retrained but at that. That's actually very good news but the labor participation rate they're men. I wonder what the text or the fact that you know the Princeton study. They hit the print this study that was done headed up by Alan Blinder Princeton. Says that it has a lot to do with chemical dependency drug addiction alcoholism. You know you look at that age group. For some reason they seem to be more addicted than previously. In in the single biggest thing that will hold the economy back over the next twelve months. Is like workers that that's what it is you don't think that people would have wage growth went to where we now 3% to 27. So would wage growth was five person with that bring more people. The problem is there's there's only so many people out so no matter what the price. Is only so many people that are really you. If if you go and look historically any time that we've gotten north of certain participation levels. The economy can track shortly after because it's just eats it or not there yet there are RLR's. Report though but what I guess what I'm trying to say is. I don't know if money's gonna make some past drug test but that person can worked it's not because they don't want to which it is you like UPS wheel working right UPS would like to hire them right they're not capable of doing and because they won't be in a year they get treatment and so forth but they work today in even UPS they won't hire yet campus system right and the most employers. If they're drug testing it's because they're concerned about your operating heavy machine earlier you know dangerous equipment. I just I don't see those three million people all listen to coming back in just over one year here discussed I don't think they can handle cases. Markets are up Adam Dow's up a 160 points that's goodness. What a pizza delivery eight piercing it where revealed the pizza delivered in a driver was car. And what color a skeptic like this better than that drones. Drones I can't like Isidore going to be Domino's Pizza too because I I will not eat Domino's Pizza. What's gonna start of amen I'm not again this partnership with forty can have your driver was sport come up and that is gonna kinda now if it was if it was chipotle. Burritos that I'd be I'd be in. This better than the drones and the drones it's like okay they're gonna drop it on the unique and then catch it what if it lips if there's win do you go left to go right. This a look at it's OK just have this driver was car pull up that you know popped the trunk for it is truck here's your pizza and then they're like public idea. It does mean that you probably shouldn't be you know looking at being a pizza delivery guys a long term career but both drivers it just think about drivers and generally about five million people in the country make a living driving you know what you're talking. You know to have ups trucks whatever you know whatever it is limos any any type of driving job. You know I can see all of them eliminated once they're okay. But it is something if if you are. If you're in your twenties and you work in that business are thinking about getting into it. Look at some models come back a little health care get into it for the next ten years we know there's a shortage of truck drivers right now there's not enough people there's. Yelling so I would ask what is the window. Indy for driver scar. It technology where it where it's truly autonomous five years ten years are we talking where it's mainstream where you can have one world don't want any road in where I pick up my phone and say I want card pick me up at my house at 5:15 in the morning and take me to work. And I don't wanna talk to anybody just get a little pot and drive are talking here to somewhere. Which in in Massachusetts is Massachusetts and New England anywhere in New England. Three to five years 35 years you know sixty people say that they will buy that technology. My dad days whose seventy years old swore he said. Mary I will never get to drive a loose car like to have control I wanna be the guy behind the wheel. In ought aid in last month he body driver scar it's an Audi and he gets on the highway. And yes to drive through the local streets but he gets on the highway. In it's an Audi AG seven is that it is that car to the SUV gets an issue via via his seventh he gets in that car. And he sets the destination. Doesn't have to touch the brake pedal or the gas pedal all the way they're still must keep his hands on the wheel. But here's a guy 78 who said I'm not donut and he did so. ADT we all say we're not gonna do it and then when our vision fails we did hear. Els and drivers as cart technology starts we'll go. And in all I know is that way MO has ordered 63000. Minivans they're gonna start rolling out out west this year. And those are fully autonomous vehicles that are going to be dropping people off picking people up. It's the big thing that they have to deal with New England is the weather. It ice cold so you Leiter doesn't work you know it gets cold so that hurt some technology. Will win that fifty dollar gift certificate. Two. Arnold. New York is investigating claims of. Pregnancy. Discrimination. At four different companies including Wal-Mart. Merck and no hardest and Glenn core. Not small companies either. Know these these these are obviously some of the biggest companies in the country and in the world mean and so. New York is one of 23 states. That has laws on the books that require employers to accommodate pregnant workers and and says that employers must treat pregnant women the same way they do other people. Who are similar in their ability or inability to work it. So this is the obviously going to be something. To continue to watch I don't know they have given any detail in terms of what's going on as an ongoing investigation so we don't know anything. At this point but. We had the reporter on this story the Natalee on the show last week talking about this issue. You don't the I I don't doubt that there is a workplace discrimination I know there's workplace discrimination against older people older workers I have. More friends that are in their fifties and sixties. Who have been laid off from jobs when they're 506263. Because employers who don't like old people they don't want among their health plan on the cycle but most employers don't don't like they want to get him out nobody. You wanna get him out of the out of the company. I haven't seen. Eight in an apprentice surprise because it would seem like a very dangerous path to walk to discriminated against a pregnant woman who's the more sympathetic. Point that a pregnant woman and does it seem pretty easily approved as well be that it's kind of a binary thing yes or no what I've noticed is. Discrimination from co workers not so much supervisors but co workers presenting. The woman who has a child and the woman who's pregnant and taken time off and not do at all her job because. Date then their job SP picked up by the workers. I've seen network. Yeah I. Again I I've been fortunate that I haven't really seen it yeah at all the only gets I I just haven't seen it we've seen. You know a number of people had kids in the last 5710 years. So I haven't seen it but I have no doubt that it exists. He talked to people who work for big companies. You'll you'll hear more and more stories about the beat where use you'll see age discrimination. And I I would I don't know if it's pregnant women discrimination selected news women with children discrimination because the the bill the co workers get become resentful another story that we gave across those. Working women often. Under estimate. Motherhood costs. In outplayed talk about childcare. The unity the amount of money that people pay for child care were you guys have any idea which had been with a large studio audience. If I told you that babysitters today got paid 2850 an hour would you be surprised me. It that's what they're they're being paid today and I tell you this as. A grandfather of two. Babysitters now it's not uncommon. Especially for daycare where they're coming into take care of your grandchild for eight hours ten hours. You're talking 25 to thirty our current 25 to thirty dollars an hour. For that care what is happening is. Women are saying why wanna go back to work. But if you have to pay thirty bucks an hour for your child care. Won't want to go back to work on how much you have to make you have to make. A hundred dollars an hour to make it worthwhile I mean child care at and unfortunately we live in a region of the country and acuity test that extra. Child care in New England is more expensive than anywhere else. I have this exact numbers I beat Cuba. So the most expensive place for child care's Washington DC not human so it will keep in mind he's he's not a state aka. The most expensive state for child care is Massachusetts we averaged care costs per year is about 171000. Dollars per job. So that means that if you have three of them and they all see that's like you're you're dropping off the kid at six months. And it childcare. And it's 17181000. Bucks so what that means if you have three of them. And if you want to break even on child care costs after you factor out taxes and things like that. You've got to making 9200000. Dollars a year just to break even and have no money left over. So that's why you see a lot of workers who if they have two or three kids and their making 5060000 a year the math is. You better stand a better off staying home or you know get grandma and grandpa to move in with you which might not be the best situation either. Ness there ray Knight it's. Most women 2% of women say they're all most batters say. We're gonna stay home. With the kids and in fact the number goes to about 1518%. Of American women become homemakers and in the rest of the world it's closer to 40% diesel auto blow to the rest of the world has more homemakers. In the United States that do this job remotely. Currently in stable as he has stayed home that we could have extra people on the show you know can be with them a show for people maybe five I'm trying to figure out ways or it's for coming up next will be having who have the answer to our trivia question. No our folks is chuck and Mike from the financial exchange we're talking this month about and do what he's specifically. Nor strong advisory group got the truth about annuities Mike let's talk first about some of the benefits of annuities when it comes to tax deferral that's probably one of the main advantages that you get through the use of it and it would. Correct I mean if you think about a traditional investment lets you go out and you buy CD that's paying you 3% interest. You're paying taxes on that interest on your 1040 every single year. With an annuity you might be able to get that same 3% rate of return. But all the taxes are deferred and he decide to take that money that can't be an advantage for somebody in high tax bracket today. Other benefits that are on there you have the ability to add these writers either income benefits or death benefits on annuity. They are and that's where things get a lot more complicated and it's very much dependent on each individual situation. Yet there are writers on there that can guarantee you that you get a certain amount of income for the rest of your life. But depending on your own current income situation that may mean up valuable there are things like death benefits and market protection. All sorts of these different things to be written into these contracts but they do come at a cost. The downside due Newt he's the two biggest reasons that people have issues with them sometimes. They do lucky money a prolonged periods of time with surrender charges some of the newer products are able to reduce or in some cases eliminate those. And also you do have to worry a little bit about taxation on the back in tax ordinary income rates as opposed to at capital gains rates folks all of this information and more. I was shocked when I saw this story that the year rationing has begun in Europe due to a shortage of carbon dioxide. The world's ending it this is yeah we laugh about it but. You know in Europe there's also another thing about this case. Soccer is is you know a big deal yet the World Cup going some great games last couple days to ultimately ends. The is that house the American team. Good I mean I haven't lost yet but they're not playing yourself you know. Yeah us by my point is that. He had to know that consumption was going to be added prepare for the all the manufacturers so that the biggest still. Yet the big thing is that a lot of this CO2 I guess this is what I read this is I had no idea this work came from. I guess a lot of the two great carbon dioxide. Is made from these ammonia plants and I guess five of these big ones were shut down in Northern Europe. Because of maintenance issues and so they unexpectedly went offline which means they're not produce the carpet now oxide that is needed for the beer. Which means you get flat beer on and that's the most people want analogous start drinking liquor. That is not yet and yet give that to soccer fans that'll be good man who are the worst soccer fans the British. Are we talking like per hour is why post your lousy bonds they literally addict and fights but at this there's different types of bad. And you know did the route both filed. The British ones are good I mean keep in mind though in Brazil you have refereeing that was not in the World Cup you go to refereed that was beheaded by a team a few years back in that call. Soon. It was it that part of the World Cup please note on out of this this was a local call match area is this wasn't like a big game they waited too slick too count playing against each other any beheaded the wrath. Like it's a good. I'm so glad I don't. Coach anymore. Larry Kudlow my good friend is moving to restock. His White House economic team no one name on there that day was not surprised to see. Yet at the second I saw this headline now yesterday and CNBC as that a case you can be Steve Moore Steve Forbes it's coming on was them and no Steve Forbes and wanted do. I don't either more would but yet it's it's it's not surprising at all. That he ended up going to. You know turning to Steve Moore for some additional missed a bunch of positions that art field at the NEC right and wonder why. The unity that the against the it's partisan paid. And yet go to Washington. Announcer there's probably a whole bunch disclosure after vehement sell some things in I would imagine there's a whole bunch of hate you hold individual stocks if you work there's probably a whole bunch of things they go wind actually getting a position. So what are we hearing for rumors about the next iPhone heading north going to be call. That's actually one of the big questions what are they gonna call the awards Turkish state they skip the iPhone nine. Which then kind of weird. But so one of these rumors that was reported by his motive the other day. Was that you would be able to wirelessly charge your iPhone and on an air pot case. I've got an heir apparent case Erica I don't hero earbud case is saying things that the wireless ones all. So the question is. Why. Am in the speed extra batteries simply outside but why would you want to vote. Extra battery strength without having that big ye can buy those. Two cases that are battery but they're really. In the make your phone very heavy and awkward to carry so maybe that thought news. Do you carry a spare battery at patterns develop to be run out of battery. Why not too often because what I do is I'd charge on my way home from work. And that gives me an oh gotcha site in my car at 25 minute drive and so on 50% when I leave the office a measly seven years of timing you know I. Don't know why you want to have to have. Like the air pod case would be the VO for delayed. I'm unclear if he said look I wanna have some wireless charger great here's like something credit card size that has a battery in it put it on top and boom you're done. I just wonder why you wanna have in the air. Podcasts. And didn't make sense and click it could be a false rumor to could be fake news could be. The partners healthcare is shifting 100000. Employees and families to their company owned insurer. Kind of amazing the minority on this partners healthcare big health health care company in the city moving away from blue cross blue field. In this is going to move one. 100000. People away from blue cross blue shield and into while what's called neighborhood health plan which is partners plan and and so. Out like you I'm amazed that. This wasn't a case to begin what else you know I gave it a you have so many people and be at your own plan would you wanna get people on it in order to promote it and so force. Naturally you've got some people that are a little concerned. Partners like hero if you're if you're one of those 100000. You may have to give up your doctor you may have to change of primary care physician made up that you thought it would be disappointment. Nobody hears and understands our partners has like every doctor in Massachusetts under their umbrella anyways did. It a lot of got a whole lot of they've got a lot of doctors. I guess what took a few questions number one. How many partners employees don't use doctors there are under partners there's some in there's probably somebody come on and Stewart tells plants differences it'll work further. Like park you know it's kind of like Steve Jobs using an IBM yeah you just wouldn't expect right. The second question. There's so many doctors under partners like ages you know it's a big deal. If it isn't as good save the company it doesn't seem like it should be I mean it would be one thing if partners where this tiny little company and there weren't that many but it's like it should save the cup I don't know 20% on health SCSI their. Blue cross blue if you charged a 20% market eighteen. Rated it just for administering the plan will that the question is in in where I wonder partners go wrong with this is if they're trying to almost go to awards at Kaiser Permanente model that's out in California where it's all vertically integrated pretty much from the top down though you know worry you drugs you know the pharmacy and things like that saves money. It's that's why Kaiser runs one of the tight ships out there is because there isn't any profit from you know from division to division and so I wonder if this is kind of where partners wants to go with things strike call. That's I was thinking those that thought process I had it when we come back. The maple syrup makers in Vermont are outraged. Over pure syrup the stories is is pretty mind boggling in terms of what. I wouldn't I wouldn't hold your breath. The price tag for WWE. Writes it's so wars in TV wrestling shows I'm shocked by. If it is to wrestling no I'm not I have now watched wrestling but evidently. Lot of people do watch it because the rights fees like fox and all these instead companies that broadcast. Sports rights the rights fees going from 130 million to 460 million. Almost quadrupled yeah. And so WWB has a brand new five year TV deal that is going to on a worldwide basis this'll more than double its revenue every year from these TV deals up to north of 500 million dollars. In 20/20 one. I was gonna talk about the World Cup and electronic arts but I did hear something this morning that video games are gonna become part of the Olympics. What union and they are there there's a petition going down. And they're meeting the Olympic Committee is meeting and they are considering taking on video games as an Olympic sport. I just I just thought I'd mention that push that out there I don't think it but it games. Being an Olympic sport. You know the academic Canada the Olympic motto is near city assault is forties faster higher stronger written. There's nothing in video games. That makes you faster higher or stronger maybe higher it that you get hired to play video games. It had it know a lot of people play video games as smoke a little weak before they play. Sponsored by the reader is next Olympics or something I mean I just. I. Look if you wanna have an. Don't put that you like I don't wanna have some tough video game person on the scene you know. Walking around. It's going to be companies that are out there that can get to the Olympic Stadium and not know what the track is that they have to walk around again it is the first time I've seen one of these what's the sunlight why do you want me out here. And they make a lot of money you're the one those to of any that make millions of dollars but that doesn't mean their athletes not that many of them you know. It you know if if if you're gonna put video games the Olympics put the spelling bee kicks with. Don't more people liked it you gains and watch CNN business yes there were last a couple weeks ago there were 600000 people. Who tuned in to watch the rapper Drake play the video gamer ninja yeah. That's where ordering inverse ninja this is our world today that that is where we are headed folks. So why does electronic arts is a videogame maker and yes how does the World Cup inner play in Paterson like NFL Madden football at all. Well the big thing is they they wound. One of the major before licenses for video games they've they've put out the fifa license licensed product every year now but they have this odd thing called the ultimate team. They've mowed in their game which is where he can build different squads by you know picking up. I don't know how. Where it's it's I think it had to do with these selling more at the games like eight. They sell a lot of them so people like video football it's not actually selling more games it's the in app purchases bail out when these games now see people by at dish you you can pay real money. In the game to buy additional characters and things like that. Her and so that's pretty much what you'd do so what are they hoping that a rich country wins. There is doing well in the tournament goes deep in the cut tournament so they can make more money so on these apps boats if it's part of that but it's it's also just all of the additional buzz that you get from this.
