This is the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong in chunks of you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. GE is in the news again and it might actually be positive sense will be talking about it for. Donald Trump's proposed tariffs on auto imports will hurt the entire industry by disrupting supply chains according to Moody's maturing through that. And then finally. The majority of Americans approve of Donald Trump's handling of the economy for the first time during his presidency hi everybody it's Berry and John Mooney with you here. We have to start off with this GE story they're headquartered in Boston. There an old industrial company that has just been. Grossly mismanaged for a and it's a crisis while twenty years maybe and I'm an attribute some of this problem to Jack while trying to it's sacrilegious to do that in in this town but I think. Some of what he did in the late ninety's is coming back to her by him in the well I'm gonna stick my neck out and say Jack Welch is a major person to blame for all swap. Will get to that hate tax almost eight arc text number 63566. If you wanna hate on John go right ahead I mean he's a great Red Sox fan and a good guy but he trans. Warmed in my opinion a good boring industrial company. And turned into hedge fund and that's when the problems began to unravel a lot of lot of people have that similar opinion that it. In the late ninety's it's a maybe they'll last differently in the last years of his ten year. Which were. You know like 93. Through 2001. That he made some mistakes today well it and I've seen this happen it worked out great on his watch he created a monster called GE capital which basically transformed this into a good. Boring industrial company. It to a high rolling hedge fund. With a black box he was able to manage earnings to pretty much wherever he wanted to with that black box built GE through a combination of in my opinion hype. And GE capital into a sixty PE's stock. It was like Amazon.com. At the time even though it was a collection of basically born in good industrial companies and people used to say John you may not remember this but back in the ninety's I was working as a financial advisors this is twenty years him. People would say. You buy G. Because it's like owning a mutual fund that the it was sold it the right day that perspective on investors are from an investor standpoint. Jack Welch can do nothing wrong Jeff Immelt can do nothing and owning G is like only neutral on my gosh. It's been a pretty bad mutual fund for twenty years and what happens is when you get a sixty PE EU can't justify it by doing turbines and and doing MR arise. It has to do a lot more sexy stuff in when she gets the sexy here arena. The risk. He is inherently higher and and Jeff Immelt who did a horrible job. Inherited a mess if his defense but didn't do much to improve it and left I think advisors investors. Wondering what what it was that you can go and Flannery cracked open the black boxes yet and my criticism Flannery is that. You know he came out in November and gave a lot of bad news stock dropped. And it's okay he he knew if you're Smart you're the new CEO right. The first six months you bring out all the bad news that you flush right and you just kill the stock and you do it. And he did that in November bought the darn stock. And Denny comes out in January gives us some more bad which was that's so far that is my biggest criticism of John. Yet I mean there's definitely been layers and layers of bad news here that we all follow without the bottom that's it and there's war. What's happening here though is GE is planning to spin office help your business and excellent business is gonna become a standalone business. And they will also be selling off their stake in Baker Hughes now this is not a fire sale at all these are two actual businesses. The GE is spinning off in one case in selling out right the other case what's happening now is GE is becoming. Really think about all the areas they were into their basically now a renewable energy power in aviation business. And that health care business is a fantastic business has great margins highly profitable we all probably use their MRIs. In their X rays. Ultrasound and it's as if you're GE stockholders today you will end up with shares in this health care company that's that's the positive stay. Perspective and that may be contributing as to why. The stock is up seven point 5% this stock yesterday was under thirteen dollars it's at thirteen seventy wondering now we're finally at a point where we now know what G news. Now we've been discussed before the show that. Well how does aviation necessarily mix with renewable energy and maybe the nation is ultimately going to be issued the drop right now it's basically three. Large identifiable business. And and the other thing Wall Street likes is the fact that this could be fifteen billion dollars of cash on its balance sheet by 20/20. Which means that this dividend which I think is still at risk IDs can be reduced dessert today why would you keep the dividend that high. When you're competing with Honeywell whose dividends half. And exactly and part of that is the fact of the stock prices so low that the rate is that high. But we're we're now looking at a smaller company and I think this dividend is safe. Through 20/20 Somalia another year and a half the problem is at that point I think it's gonna get cut probably half Seattle that you keep I think he's gonna drop it and I. I think maybe he's learned get all the bad stuff out now. Reduce the dividend and I I I'm expecting dividend reduction this year. Well analysts are saying that they think that this sale in this big atomic cash is gonna mean the dividend is safe for now within at least the next year's up. It may be a year on sing might be two years from your and a half but they're gonna reduce their debt by 25 billion dollars. Which is great. So worst finally give report were gonna then they're done they do it to get this 25 billion done here today. There in illiquid position. The you'll kill them is their long term care disaster into retirement liabilities are massive and that's something they still have to get their arms and look Mary could be criticized for not you know doing the kitchen sink right away but. There's a lot of stuff to deal with Peter yeah yeah others and any other thing we should point out irony of all ironies. Here the stock is taking office talking to a a listener who is a FaceBook friend he's like its own G stock Illinois US and you know if there's good news. The good news is. The history of companies dropped from the Dahlia is outstanding right the year after they get dropped from the down. You vastly outperformed the market Andy it's the the you know there's half a dozen examples. It's it's a bottle it's not like you say while there's been a hundred companies dropped from trial in the last twenty years varies for. If there's gore picked it but but that the bluntly it tends to indicate that the account. Selling an old guy tale. I'm not buying it but I'm a case like Bob Hope they get it comes true but I'm not buying it but. Yeah his it was dropped at 9:29 this morning it's the in and here's the irony today is the 111. Birthday. Of the inclusion of G into the depth. What's the record of 100. Dropped from the right did would you be about the narrow group of people via. Talked terrorists yet have terror discussion every day. The proposed US tariffs on car imports will have far reaching negative implications for the entire auto industry discordant to Moody's Investors Service. Well we import about half a million German cars not that man and a half a million and the GE's a Dynegy. General Motors is pretty much out of Europe via and I frankly it's and seen is. These companies. That's I'm not sure it's a bad thing I think these companies these German auto makers appear BMW if your Mercedes. You stand out. For a start making him in the humans they don't give up this market share you regardless there and in. The where the richest country in the world if Euro luxury auto maker. What could possibly be a more important market tee in the United States aware of apart supplies. And you know that that's that's a factor again it just have to do that here this war weaken it and probably will win for a lot of reasons you state the problem is. At the end of the day everyone's a slight loser because we're all going to be paying more for everything. The parts the point that can be more expensive the cars we buy are going to be more expensive. Of the what do you create another 100000 high paying jobs. C yep at all that what you're saying is that accurate. Costs are higher rates used 'cause it's a tax increase when you put attacks on a car coming in it its tariff it's its attacks but. If you create more jobs as a result of that tax and they're pretty good job straight out yeah model's assembly jobs. An amateur Tibet okay you do is obviously pause decide otherwise we wouldn't be doing this the negative side is if you have a 401K. And you have a lot of money and index fund. 45%. Of the profits that you owned come from overseas now those of horrible horrible rotten people who were trying to get even with. It's happened before one can ants in that's why we're seeing this situation where small stocks. That are insulated from the turmoil. Are just going through the roof they've had the an unbelievable year. And company looking your big companies and their international companies extra and it's just it's just such a fear of the well known because we don't. We really don't know what the impact this is going to be in the what do you think Europe does the fight back mitnick what is there. He weeks we say okay we're gonna slop 20% tax on Mercedes-Benz coming in from Germany. Well how does they fight back gains disk as we are seeing China fight back matter if you saw this morning trying to set. Well we're we're reducing tariffs from other Asian producers insulin products crunch so. Basically they're telling their food manufacturers. Don't buy American so that's gonna kill farmers that's a big crap that's a bad thing but the EU was saying that if tariffs are not. Removed they will place a 20% terror from cars coming in from the United States which isn't much it's 20%. No we don't we all yeah yeah when you go to Europe you'll see a lot of great art and are manufactured the United States. It to trade him announcers like for 500000 vehicles it is massive and an as reported on earlier General Motors basically withdrawn from Europe and is telling our result gimmick merit our that's about stock Cecil associate topic is a money losing venture so yeah. When you look at these things one for one. You're saying yeah that's one of repayment. The problem is we take a big picture look at what's going on here it's us battling Europe it's us battling China well that's right and it's a lot of you you know. Unilateral battles where were the bad guy. In the old days when like Russia was the bad guys and now the outlook we may be endless when Ronald Reagan was president everybody hated us. Now it's on my honeymoon to Europe in the 1980s. When Reagan was president right and we were despised Americans were despised here. Absolutely hate well because it. But again he carried a big stick but but didn't start wars he basically said we're gonna build our military and be strong. And you know that it would start any wars. This is a battle that idea and we could say well we have military worse anymore. You eat it too dangerous rates it now all worship in the economic and cyber exactly the in this is how we defied worked. And we're taking an aggressive. Are they push I I can tell you. On Larry Kudlow in in the White House. Is fighting the argument for free trade the he's he is fighting the fight and he will make his voice heard. Is just the the president feels this he's going down this road. I wish I could talk to Larry because I told Larry on the show what's the Larry Peter Navarro moon is going to be the guy who's the go to guy he's. All. Oh don't worry about that they'll worry about that. Peter Navarro is calling all the shots right now and by the way when the stock market was down 500 points because of mr. Navarro is planned yet. Trump hold them out of listening and he's staying at 330 in the app that is Asa that. That get off Miami it's going to be quite what I wanted to kind of backed off so I mean this is this is interest what do you think of the president's handling of the economy. I think it's but actually I mean in I think indefensible this president and and that the person who succeeded him. Americans have had. Did not have a strong opinion about the economy is they shoot the economy has done better. Then the way we've great Britain and its continued with both president truck it's his numbers are up you know the third on you as they should beat. Well 51%. They ate like the president here here the numbers. The president's economic approval rating surge six points to 51%. With just 36%. Of the public disapproving. That is a six point drop from the march cervix and he's his number six point increase right. Well they're the disapproving the dissident to his numbers as a relates to the economy are skyrocketing but they should be higher. Me and he's hated on so many other issues they did that yet and and the gators just you never had a president hated McCain to say I hate you for an issue is that the economy is now moving I I know I know it's too we're not that I'm not as not if you're a liberal you can't your Democrats. Anyway our poll question today Tucker you and throw it out there apple question today at financial change showed dot com is do you approve of president trumps handling. Of the economy yes or no and so far 69% of our listeners are saying yes they do and they can Texas to right. It just only 56. Yet. And if there if you're new to the show. Just put my first name at the beginning of your text message Barry BA RY. I I you know what he'll likely guy or not I think you have to give them credit for handling of the economy will talk about that more when we return. And we're here to talk about a brand new product available for landlords it's called Z deposit dot net Jake. What. Barry we created a security deposit product. To really help the problem a lot of in order facing with security deposits which is. You know one it's time consuming to open the small enough security upon numbers sons now. And yet to go into the branch gets signed paperwork and their small dollars and Andy turn. And it's likely to complaints in Massachusetts really tough for landlords and security deposit accounts. You have to give them ten in certain forms when they open up the count and you have to pay interest in you and we should do all of this now through Z deposit all of that you can do Thursday deposit it literally takes about forty seconds opened up an account. We handled the automatic forms that are generated in the count number department commission statement all that said lieutenant. And the interest descent to the tenant. Automatically every year. This sounds like something it's going to be very valuable to large landlords it might have 200 tenants and small landlords that might only have five tenths yeah absolutely with a large landlords. It's just a lot of hassle to managed so we make dad very efficient. For the small landlords a lot of them are afraid of nineteen complaints done correctly so some of them some of them don't even like taking security deposits were hopeful that this up and do that. Folks if he'd like to learn more about C deposit go to their website Z deposit dot net. Or you can call and speak to somebody on disease deposit team it's 7816418691. Break here on the financial exchange radio network. 80% of our audience on approve of president truck's handling of the economy that according to powerful financial exchange showed dot com. See that's more like what I expect and this is not a Republican. The answer. I mean if if Obama was president we had three point 6% unemployment and a robust you know economy I'd say you'd deserve credit to. I don't understand how only 51% of the people give him credit for full employment economy is booming. Well I tell you who where there either newspaper guys like it incredible that the that he 11 area that doesn't get talked about it. The level of unemployment for minorities and Todd black and Hispanic Americans has never been more. Eight they are making more money right minority workers are making more money than they ever have before and their rate of unemployment and their participation. In the economy. Is greater than it's ever been before. And that is consistent with people all people you know and in the more jobs you have. You aid workers are gonna start Jack and you know what their races like your hard worker we beat you. Speaking of workers union workers are gonna be picketing at Mary run hotels. This is interstate I mean it's the typical wages and working conditions which we yet I mean that happens all the time but I. I think they've got leverage that I am. What they say Clinton would three point 6% unemployment that's the most leverage can possibly if your a made yet at a Marriott hotel rate. And you guys decide to go on strike just my opinion I ZI I think you've got a lot of leverage right now there's not a whole lot of people waiting in line to take those jobs and work hard and do with dependability and responsibly so yeah and show up Angela thanks to the they're big problem that industries. You know people take the job in shall -- weaker to its physical worked no question it's it's totally. Landscaping. In in the sense that. You know you don't see. A lot of Americans frankly doing those jobs and and those who do with our coveted no doubt about that but. The things that was interesting about this particular dispute is. The UN's almost preemptively saying and I think smartly. They're wanting to have some say on how these companies incorporate technology. Which is getting huge in hotels in just starting to we know what the automated check in that's obviously some that we've been doing for awhile now but. They're looking ahead to robotic room service delivery and that you had to mechanical sports centers which the technology already exists. Again you know if you go to all along and you're not gonna ran into mechanical bartender for nothing but years from now you will and the unions wanna be at the bargaining table. When it comes down to how we go and actually you know. Employ people at this at this particular hotel and what they can do now and what about those people will bartenders he think that's Smart for them to worry about that. I think it's Smart to look ahead to a much it was a whole pirate the union leaders I just peace and hate. You want my women to show up for work tomorrow you pay him yeah I I and I. I think that tremendous leverage it's a job nobody wants well I I would be interested in finding out how old your kid drill loaded and your son now being. Now he's gonna ecology think he'd be willing to do that job and part I can tell a five kids not one of them would do that job but I I am sure my son would not have done it even if we desperately needed money right. So yeah there's obviously a need for that. So it should see this plays out in in on that you know we're we're we've a grand bargain going on right now in the Massachusetts legislature. Which. Might these gun and a fifteen dollar minimum wage in Massachusetts. Out of the governor signed on for the plight I just don't think it matters Steve McKee do you have a ridiculous at fifteen bucks an hour at a lot of people make him make 111213. Here's hoping the part of this grand bargain means. If you work on Sunday good time and a half so if you're eighteen year old kid and you first job. You make it twenty to fifty hours start on Sunday signing up for Sunday that politics Sunday hours. Eight coming up are we talking about steelworkers at National Grid locked out outcome. Time now for Wall Street watch a look at the market's performance so far today until Berrian jug right here on the financial exchange radio network. Campus John Bellini in fort chuck today kind of a quiet day little. Nice to have a quiet day to be honest with the Wall Street watched I'm Mike Armstrong joins us. Mike big day for Boston based General Electric. Curious Serbian open they're going to be spinning off their health care units annexing mistaken baker used. The planet to pay out about 80% of that failed to shareholders. The timeline is looking over the next two to three years they have focused on aviation energy and do rubles. And likely going to be reduce the dividend what is all said and done and also plan to inject three billion dollars in two. GE capital and 2090. This stock is up right now just shaved 75 cents thereabouts about 6% of the. Now Lennar that's always an interesting gauge for our economy a home builder house Lamar doing. Sure as one of the base of construction companies and yet country. Very strong quarter they'd be on both top and bottom line. New orders church where it 62%. A year ago this time. And stock is up pretty big about 6% on the news. So you'd definitely moving market traders and not lose the overall market that big move this company who. Really had. Durbin of volatility this year so make those backup. And so far looks like slightly positive day on Wall Street nothing really exciting. Nothing too exciting. Make back at some of the losses that we spoke yesterday. A substantial. Just a little bit all right Mike Armstrong some good news GE and Lennar thank you very much. More than 12100. Gas workers have been locked out by National Grid after months of failed contract negotiations and they were scheduled to go on strike you know a lot of issues we face seen before concerns over safety risks. Also increased use of contract workers cuts in wages benefits overtime. So again their locked out of jobs 12100 workers you know his National Grid did this in the summer not in December. Yes if they did this in February we could have some must see here is that it wouldn't and it wouldn't go there and they would there but they wouldn't dare do this any time probably after November 1 yet this is probably well timed from the perspective of did the nation I mean they can. Negotiate but again outside if your steelworker and idea of the leverage. No question about is these guys can also works admirals you know I mean here they're loser and the they can go work at the casino they like there's. There's enough work I think National Grid might be overplaying their hand here. This is this is a really difficult time to be on National Grid side from for a lot of reasons they have one point nine million. Customers just in Massachusetts and is throughout 85 communities in Massachusetts. I I I just think the I I suspect this will settle in favor of it just you know it depends on is how long are the workers well and stay out. That's true that's ultimately what it comes down to but is not cheap hiring contract workers. And the union is arguing and you you gotta agree with this they said the contractors which they're leaning on more and more or less experienced. More prone to accidents such as a gas leak and one of them occurred in Providence last year it was a big problem. So this is something we want competent people doing this kind of work. And you know you don't want people up there screw around with with with this business though you don't need. Better for Donald Trump then the national poll numbers but he still pretty well cold and wet yet again veteran. We're we're pulling on how people think he's handling the economy what are the results so far Tucker what do we got for polar 82 point yes eighty money. John he's got to be higher than what 8020s is a pretty good RIL. The 5149. That we had nationally we are many Democrats have to. Yeah well you know what's it about how do you argue against him you know I will say this in fairness that if you breakdown that polling. A majority. A plurality of Democrats actually give him a favorable rating on handling the economy so but how did they not at all and Yankee you're that's my point mad cow. Like how do you not say you know what. The the economy is doing a lot better as a lot of what he's done could've been done. Prior to him being in office and others are Obama could have done a lot of Li upon hate business right and you know. If that went to Japan too is now on that survey which gave them 51% approval on the economy. I believe his overall job approval of the people survey it was around 41%. Which is consistent with the polls. The most recent poll below has him at 45%. Approval. 45% approval and put that in perspective that is exactly what President Obama was at the station as presidency. And business insider has finished in period they say that many in the country don't trust the media which we now. Protest site could unit at a excluding the financing a check yet. I am a little bugger it we're gonna make that assumption. Potentially explaining why the outrage on news programs hasn't shown up in polling now. He'll pick a fight with the media turned out be pretty Smart movement on the president's part and it did it did because the the anchor it is an actual belly and the anger they get the better his pulpit yet. To Tucker ID like red meat the Brett Loper meat and wanna beat them there not get bit by tick I have before. This is that the only deuces tick it loans desist not heard of this jets pretty scary. You get hit an issue and every meet date get allergic to red meat. And that's it sounds later freaky thing but it's true of my complaining on red meat tonight. Well we'll go on the loads and if if you don't feel too well I mean of me yet. Hoping he used to be just in the southeast. It's these text used to be just down south it's still is heavily if there Daryn I mean yeah Hampshire mean they're there everywhere it's called the lol lol what is the lone star tick because it kind of originated at least they richly found it was prevalent heavily in taxes now it also sees being linked to higher rate of heart disease. And it also causes allergies to other products like even dairy yeah. Again it's if you it's primarily in Texas but has spread to other southern states and well beyond the self too so. Here it's weird about it UPE if you get this form of Lyme Disease radius tick borne out. And you had a stay at 6:7 o'clock you may not get sick from that steak until the next day who right humanity to know you don't know. Why don't always cost. Lyme Disease is skyrocketing in the United States yeah I had it like five years ago whatever disputed poll yet I asked the doctor Arnie years ago as all the effects of that you know my wife had a Q she went in and you know it's so common and eat it. In the increase in the diagnosis through the roof but I suspect a lot of this is not being diagnosed but you know why government you know when you going to get your blood test done. They don't test for line is correct me ask you what you have to ask for young and would I do now is when I go in before. For by blood test which they do once a year down into physical. I'll say I want Lyme Disease. Test saying no a lot to us I was bitten by they do because ethics charge I say I was bitten by taking us where we bit. Errors on my left arm and I saw the pat I want that you have to. And I think they well get to scream bloody murder to get that text but it it to get that test you need to do. Boy you've just been caught. Because next time we do that because I don't believe tough. Like I was attacking Palin paid extra are all like. I'll pay the extra 25 bucks I want to test bird and a case if you're like if you're outside viewing and who the heck is it right. Oh yeah I saw me the assumption is there's a tick bite yourself. Because at some point you do get a future jewelry oh yeah there on the chip monks their yeah squirrels deer deer but. They like people think dogs. While you're the doctor Graham Olympia yeah in his at this press that we dirty used animal out there other than a year now. Our score. You know under the should be part of the regular blood work that we yet. It should be paid for I know in and I think that could change because of what's happened in the recent years and he did you know at these insurance companies. You know they're both cheap and stupid you know. No that's sure. It's almost like you have to deal with the pharmaceutical industry let's let it disease does and you can give some prescription that would make money on it if IC insurance companies make body that could care less about. When you healthier they just want to treat. It is a great. It paid on the grows it kind of like the utility companies well maybe this new company in Boston with Berkshire Hathaway. Jamie Dimon and then an Amazon will come up with a a way to put this altogether than it makes us you know one of the guy the guy who's running the doctors fantastic he said imagine if we're building a car and we built. The best chassis in the world from full vote in the best engine from Ferrari and we took that only the best parts of every car neo is. You have a junk box didn't room because that's we have with health Q we have the best of this the best that we have no one coordinating it to make sure all comes together. And works in the yen for the patient so hopefully that will help. Bring us together and we'll get tested for checks he is a very bright guy ninety's had him as a professor at Harvard and now speaks very highly. Uncle is Ted talk is a classic I wanna hear that I effort that's it's unbelievable. I great TV buying rate con for three to have billion dollars. And missed it yeah I don't even know I don't think most of our listeners know who great TV is or -- great TV is a large owner of local television stations I once worked for them out west though right in the midwest and the south their national player or they are more great columnist. Not that I know well but you know the primarily the midwest was a great company on anything in and break. On which point the sat rate com owns a community newspaper chain that includes the eagle Tribune well in north bend over. And the Salem news the Gloucester daily times. Now rate comment agreed to sell all of that group mean and I'm gonna assume that that is still gonna go through as a sale because gray does not. Get Bert Gray's not involve the newspaper business of the company but three point 65 billion dollars local TV a consolidating big time Sinclair is the biggest player a us have to break because it's tough business. It's a tough business in this waking you know combined markets and sell packages to know how do you run the end and meet a new stationary at a local affiliate. In Des Moines, Iowa. From their potential divorce which might not occur until five years after you've passed away yeah and that's a wonderful thing about trust as so many people get tied up taxes in probate and you know what. They do a lot after your dad. Never mind rate while you're living in this is one of them so the answer is absolutely yes. You can protect assets from future divorces of your children and and not even just divorces. Any credit taken a financial problem just a wanna have people limited to just divorce although I can tell you divorces is one of them. Bigger concern or how many people half again more common and so yes I mean the way you do it is what the language you put in the trust as you simply allow. The children to service trustee so they're doing everything like it's their own their own asset buying selling etc. but if they appoint an independent trustee. Who decides when distributions can come out to the child if anyone at their siblings know they should be an accountant or an attorney and they can remove and replace pulled it really the boss they don't get stuck with a you know some crazy attorney gets in there that that doesn't wanna give up assets. And it's got sold discretionary distribution that protects it from any divorce when they come knock in looking for money when wanna get divorced and the estate. In addition to that Tucker we've got inside information inside here only because this year. That is when is Amazon prime I know you're excited about I am I'm very excited about primed. And then revealed tell Judd John may be a little depressed this segment John Moody joins me and everybody on amateur. He's a blog although he is he is and he recently bought an electric lawn or he may learn today that he paid too much I don't we will find out Lula will be talking about it but I did notice that brand Labonte is on the list he had. And I'll be really matter if I overpay. We depend. I paid. You he's vital factor X battery operated electric on those 250 bucks over the that's it's. They even used at all for nearly and it's like sixteen inches wide. It's like an hour and a half obviously a lot of exercise. It was a late or back and forth like it's. It doesn't you're just joining us in the second hour that a the voice you hear is John Mooney. But some more talk we used it Tucker scooped me on this about two weeks ago on the weekend he sent me text. That Amazon whole foods that hold delivery thing you don't start. It act it starts tomorrow tomorrow yup 10% discount prime members hitting all whole foods starting Wednesday. That would be tomorrow you have to download the whole foods. Deals initially rolled out of course in thirteen states but the whole country gets it starting on Wednesday. This is our meeting with some very rave reviews people lighten get. Good quality food at a at a pretty cheap seats baby back ribs Tucker five bucks a pound. Sockeye salmon this does sound thirteen 99 pound you know evict the nickname for whole foods used to be whole paycheck. What you get intent if your prime member right proceed down low Libya to let's make sure people understand there's a lot of listeners are prime numbers. You download the app on your phone. And when you're checking out the the read the Q Archos you are code on your phone. Invent if you use that Amazon credit card you get an additional 5%. Growth. Theoretically. You could be getting 15% off which is about we need. To make their prices a little more competitive yet he's not gonna buy your paper towels area not get a guy. I I I say you'll see about that you arrived by air and at some point you do. There are a lot of people their prices haven't come on down. Yeah older they've come way down my whole foods was very expensive the first start. And that was that was really hurt them and kept them from expanding news. They weren't able to grow because the prices princes do cry I'd like us that the nickname for a whole foods whole paycheck here this might be your nuts at oh. Yeah I think it did once great unity and because he just east scooping you take two on all right area 25% off one not so that's a good deal. I don't I don't I. I I was not a regular whole foods shopper but. I can get delivery from the story that seven miles away you know. And try. It did it hit dessert yeah on the other thing is you can get another an additional 10% off of sale items. Are on sale as you know it applies to literally hundreds of products notes. A lot of people to go put discreet use gonna drive up their membership. Well out thanks so you know the membership as a plateauing. There's been consistently. You know because pretty much been pretty much everybody who's Altman would wanna prime membership has won everybody shares. Might might get a share them. Yes and the thing is at the margin I think of especially among. Middle income and lower I think that the aggressive push by Wal-Mart. No membership required prices. You know we view and get you in an interesting strategy is to get some of your whole -- products from Amazon. And get some of your basics from Wal-Mart delivered for free without membership of which a lot of people are doing now. Well the the prime day which is something we talked about it and let's start five years ago. It was three years ago somewhere in the ballpark we are inside scoop and we actually stole from business insider though it's ours. And I think it's gonna be on July 16 yes which usually is did you. By a few things I do there woody would would you should know I I I gauge it gauge well the first private it was an absolute joke. It was like 12% often you know a stack and napkins and trying to think what I might be like who cares agree the country need life and this is going to be. And act but the sum all this is going to be the biggest private yet because it always. Every year life especially this year though because they raised the prime membership fees so that when I say okay well this is why you have prime. We're gonna make it worth your while getting any better they they they need to design I've been. Disappointed. Prime gays in the past is don't ever been anything he kind of wait for them to singular message and and if inspires you rate in detail and really need that and you find out don't you know what they know. They know that the twenty dollar increase is gonna cause absolutely nobody who is a member right now to cancel opiate few people might. But I kind of take issue with the fact that they have to and a whole lot of value added the convenience. And the quality of the product. Is such that I think the retention is going to be virtually a 100% the issue for Amazon though going forward is if they don't have a lot of value. I think that the membership domestically is gonna continue to plateau and I not want to use tournament site like I shop on that darned sight. Just about every day like I'll give an example I needed c.'s use a swivel some here gets bleached out Korea decide to buy special Korean ship to get it ceemea Bjork and you CBS they don't happen so by him. Cinema is going to be delivered two days yeah but. For 35 dollar minimum border in Wal-Mart will deliver two days don't have. They don't have no panacea tonight Amazon's platform. Is there approximately ten times the size of wall in terms of what products available for sale yet you know not to ruin the party here and I'm. And I buy stuff from him yeah okay. But I think about of the opinion that Amazon is destroying the fabric of America or Hungary Ryan Hamlin and I don't hate this I do not disagree with you running a break even retail business to make Barry Armstrong and make it at a break even this money. If they will intentionally get into the electronics business just to put best by the right the view the right now while giving example they're now going after Home Depot and Lowe's. They're selling yet they've already put mainstream business now to put the big box is not a business and get. Look if they were competitively doing this and winning I would say congratulations but. If you do this and any other industries called predatory pricing if if American Airlines comes and it's as you know we're gonna price the breakeven in Boston. They're brought to jail. An interview that's illegal but you want to do this with literally every product we bar you know why. Why has America lost. We re coming memberships they have in the units like fifty million sell something crazy to think about it so try taking away Miami is. IRB variant. Right if you said to me it over we're gonna outlaw Amazon. It's like Cooper Cooper was. I do a lot of things yeah that were found to be. Predatory and unethical skirting the law right. But nobody no politician dared unit member chamber just aren't up Doug Everett and over yet they literally were throwing tomatoes at them in India at the beat. You you can't take on a popular item this night I think that's a at a challenge yeah I mean it's up what we're gonna have to deal with the fact that. You know they're putting a lot of people out of business by selling stuff at a break even basis and not you know we're kind of all that on this thing I'd love to have a poll question is do you shop on hand as talkers and on Thursday and I'd like to have a pulled witches tee shot on hand as we shopping and it was non looking up subscribers. Today they have over 100 million persons and that's worldwide. Is that you know and they're growing overseas no question about that but the growth has slowed down considerably in large part because largely. Most people who would get one already have a membership so they're doing a good job of that. But now the EC that's the did you see the article about the power tools they the Lamar I did yeah and I noses that 161 bucks. Wireless lawn mower originally priced at 299 via tele paper in and you know ice special I got to 49. You're down 2160 what you need to use an offspring. That's true do you like it. I I love it makes no noise at all neighbors make funny you for having currently on a mile with a little but you cared Europe he just delegates to get more exercise. You know I do I want to take it if it takes you know a good fifteen minutes longer. Bought it is fantastic image one that battery and I press the button boom it's on makes no there was one battery it through your role on. Right all the way through with an extra twenty minutes left in okay and yeah and it basically at least in the back of battery to Russo. If I wanna do war I just sample those battery plugged in and worlds have to go now imagine Baghdad. And electric on board I used it by yeah. But he's at a court yeah rich and Seneca and you hit that court could go wrong that that's what reliever witnessed by that never took off because it was very big in Canada. Yeah and in this ought to and this is gonna catch on the music so I definitely you'd like them and it's cleaner. Yeah it's you know smell and you don't you know mess and with gas to fill it up but all in recent report no matter how carefully were you do smelled gas in east Billick and he's a little bit and you gotta go by me admits it with the toilets. You know electric battery on more I I I wish they had aegis injures a sixteen inch but they do have a larger ones too and I noticed at Lowe's and home people they do have. You know that the the regular sized ones and I think it was when he when interest yet yet and that it's more expensive. But I would hardly recommended that a very good experts with a photo was an estimated ninety million paying met Amazon prime subscribers in the United States 1990 probably right they probably pretty match. Each household needs. Yeah and there's only like hundred in 3550. Million adults in the United States in my that there should go to the more adults. For more households households via a soldier yet so if that's the case if that's a 150 or sixty million households. Two thirds and a lot of piggyback there's lot of yeah I generational uses those games. First class service provider to fix the issues and get it done right call easy plumbing 781862119. B. They'll fix it fast and they'll fix it right. That drug that costs a quarter million dollars plus for cystic fibrosis. Not so fast says Medicaid. What if Uncle Sam doesn't think that FDA approved blockbuster drug. That's expensive. Isn't worth the price in should not be approved Katie Thomas wrote an interesting article about this in the New York Times. Thanks for joining us. Now let's start off with your example here did you make a bigger point about this whole problem. 272000. Dollars cystic fibrosis drug New York's Medicaid. Won't approve this bull what's going on. You're black you're near a packed in new life is basically and we are gonna try and aim it in the back. There are companies that are charging a lot of money and that L. Me I don't think that it at a -- that happening are drug spending goes about the spirit in which it did last year. And the again by a code and drug that we think are basically over I. And then here in Atlanta once again aside what I'd call it Indy witnessed this new. It's neat that I. That car and he had 200 let me in and year. And when you're basically acted very hack again. And deeper discount and are again and they need them because they edit it basically what that. It didn't work as well as. Shed where I have. It is the government using the leverage of saying no to get these lower prices is that is that the game plan here. Well bad bad. Probably I would bet that it expected more and using kind of but an Indian gaming. But more than anything on the under federal law. State Medicaid programs that they haven't done that ought to appear on every outcome and no New York that it that the palace statement claimed a couple of this and they have to cut bread and an expert at the company that makes it can be. Obviously notepad and so it actually right now they're they're kind of and while you are as we want it and get back at it again and protect. You don't you know he powered in the so that's where things are New York as a negotiating. That accesses are concerned. From the consumer's perspective though a Katie. This is going to be a problem and challenge what you're doing with Medicaid or private insurance correct and we both of those are purchasers of drugs. Who have their own determination about efficacy. Despite with the government which says. And you're battling to get something that's incrementally better but a lot more expensive right it's it's it's a pretty tough call. Yeah but look at the bigger points. A bakery in the story that. You know we had it I mean you can't attack on the on the marketed and a lot of them are real the real earthquake you know there at the in therapy product that will world. Here and you know in the end some children and it and it would be. Mean really any different I'm and they all come with really bad and I help as well. It that even now. You know that that there can be for example it is a definite these whooping it seeks to address the underlying genetic. That I wrote it which is really remarkable and in yet in a clinical trials. They've found to be you know that it didn't actually impairs patients' lungs. Function. Hugely it was in the coming out and that was that the argument that he or eight. And actually also other countries around the world and I don't even know this is a pretty good and evil drive. And it here mic pasted it and actually made on it is you are conditioned very much and therefore it. Not work then you know this is there's dollar. And Massachusetts says the federal government for permission to limit its coverage of drugs try to secure larger discounts for drug makers to sell. This is something that we're seeing a lot of bright it's a real battle between you know one side and the other. Right yet been met that state that it is program I Lily Evans is a paper these drugs then. So bad they're looking for ways that they can. Limit their average and weigh in similar ways bad openly that are covered by a commercial and our charities with. Give a better chance of getting approved a one of these desirable but maybe not completely. Needed drugs relative to the alternative. If you're on a Medicare or Medicaid program as opposed to private insurance what's what's your take a month. Well it depends on what you mean by other than me and most. I get insurance and Medicare in April of Indy and in an ethnic and indeed I think toward the unit that. And what a lot of people in Medicare program and Medicaid generally as well. Okay well that by the paramedic there he spent or if you are covered your player. You're you're. You're insured may be spelling out a lot of money there and ask you to contribute quite a bit as well and as a about it. Oh. System that it is currently under me and Asian but one. And they they can't get on the got to leave it there and cherry. Okay. We'll Katie Thomas thank you very much from New York Times fascinating article I appreciate your sharing your research. And it comes to New York Times we've seen this with the other drugs acute hepatitis C rate. Here's a great example you know you've got to cure for that but he green it. It was 84000 I believe it's come down to elect the fifties and still in. But he cures it's cured if you take it for wise X number of and I don't resigned as you're done but here's the thing. Right a lot of resistance to pay for insurance companies hopefully you. And I think a little reason that there relenting is they're saying well it's cheaper than doing liver transplant. And so. You know it but what bothers people about this Pepsi drug review or can be. Is okay what are you selling for in London exactly how much published the French people have to like that's what bothers Americans are saying hey why. Why are Americans subsidizing. The person I don't know what are Camby costs in Paris but I can't tell you it's less with a lot of drugs. Each year buying them in Russia if you're buying them in Australia if you're buying them in Canada you're right. You're you're paying a different price and and and there might be more available. Americans are sale and that's. Vertex is accompanied up in Boston it was so why should Americans be paying more for drug and Canadians would pay the same and again they are entitled to make money to recoup their massive costs of research and development and in trying to promote these wonderful drugs that are blocked posters. But the question is who should be paying that premium disproportionately we have relished the rest of the world. They trivia is coming up in the next segment previous topic today will be that of Michael Jackson so. Bone up on your Jackson's history that's next. To our strong advisory group got the truth about annuities Mike let's talk first about some of the benefits of annuities when it comes to tax deferral that's probably one of the main advantages that you get through the use of it and it would. Correct I mean if you think about it traditional investment lets you go out in your bias CD that's paying you 3% interest. You're paying taxes on that interest on your 1040 every single year. With an annuity you might be able to get that same 3% rate of return. But all the taxes are deferred and he decides to take that money that can't be an advantage for somebody in high tax bracket today. Other benefits that are on there you have the ability to add these writers either income benefits or death benefits on annuities are and that's where things get a lot more complicated and it's very much dependent on each individual situation. Yeah there are writers on there that can guarantee you that you get a certain amount of income for the rest of your life. But depending on your own current income situation that may mean up valuable there are things like death benefits and market protection. All sorts of these different things can be written into these contracts but they do come at a cost. The downside due Newt he's the two biggest reasons that people have issues with them sometimes. They do lock your money up for long periods of time was surrender charges some of the newer products are able to reduce or in some cases eliminate those. And also you do have to worry a little bit about taxation on the back in tax ordinary income rates as opposed to at capital gains rates folks all this information and more. Ever as a relates to Iran and oil yet and that is that the United States has banned imports from. From Iran so if you're in America and your importing oil from Iran starting in November you can't do that anymore now. It's a whole lot of oil that we actually imports from Iran but you know it it does send a message to a question about that it impacts them. And you know the Chinese about the bottom line is we the generate a lot of boil here ourselves so that's something we should be really the biggest. Producer of oil in the world by the end this year yell were run where it'll I think eleven point nine barrels right now a live from point nine million barrels a day. On each on track to top twelve million so. Will per day right so we're going to be large producer in the world hear the latest blood pressure guidelines if I've put pressure. I have treated it yes side effect Arctic blood pressure mad so I wife tells me I don't have it but I cause. You cook the perfect she mean bad. Actually is that compliment I I don't think anybody else. My parishioners actually come down on secession are working the financial exchange I don't know yet you have a positive impact on me maybe not quite as plausible and your wife that's a whole other story we'll get into it. Up high blood pressure was determined to be. 140 over ninety per that was the standard for cover I remember that while the latest. Guidelines which went into effect last year in the lower down to 130. Over eighty. That used to be what was called the pre hypertension area between 130 over 8140 over ninety work Lisa well I wanna keep an eye on it but we're gonna put John mats and they treated. Mostly by medicine you know there's a wide range of blood pressure medications and unfortunately a lot of them don't work very well also. It's an experimentation game like in my case that took two or three different things before I don't I actually worked it's a killer to rate high blood pressure it is a huge thing in image is the number one cause of things like heart disease and stroke deaths from. And high blood pressure accounts for more heart disease and stroke deaths than all other preventable causes except smoking. And so and again we start talking but doing things offensively. Human heart disease such as massive. Disease in terms of numbers. It's eats one you wanna really take sort of a dot please tell you lose weight he told me you know exercised what I think I was exercising. A lot in even pretty well and I still had numbers were pretty nice so we took medication and it brought it down to an acceptable level that's could. Our alcohol I guess is a big problem that'll make it's like yeah there's a number of things stress like it's by. Bad you know bad diet and also one of the leading causes of high blood pressure is genetics yeah. Lot of people pre disposed of leisure pool yeah and there on minutes because they got bad genetics. He has never Buzz Aldrin only Tucker wouldn't that remember him. I don't I wasn't around but I know what history yet Neil Armstrong with youth violence for a Apollo eleven. You know that this is of Apollo eleven moon walker suing two of his children and a former business manager. Your stories he's eighty years old. You know and you wedges and so two of his children before business partner misused his credit cards. Transferred money from an account slander him. By saying he has to mention I heard an interview to end. You know if he's got dementia I've got a that he doesn't mean he Agee and gates it do you use on the ball. I think they've got a tough case to prove that he's got to mention Yemen site at least you know maybe is navies does some crazy things that I. Peace he in the interview I deserve to men. He sounded pretty sound the that you just had his cognitive game well and they're saying the stuff from memory lost delusions paranoia in confusion so they're saying that this guy had a whole lot of symptoms. That I imagine if he showed up in court and talked to the judge. Judged you pretty much find out that it Alter. It was that we are. That is what he wasn't and they are strong and wide body wasn't around. Hard as I've inducted into history. Today trucks out here he's very Ariel yeah. In memory. Effect on it which is a problem some past all the guys that are you an area that is if he's for it remembers things I promised them. And the Buzz Aldrin memory is better than makes things so I I I can't see those kids when this one they just don't like the fact that he's Mary. Our guys the road and he's getting married he wants to marry this hot object. I I I think they're worried that he's they're really I do I think they're worried days they're gonna cut out he wants to do the moon walk with a different partner a you know it is money that yeah I agree he's 88 have fun. The controversial. Rule requiring advisors to act in their clients' best interest when it comes to managing retirement accounts. Is officially dead it's called the fiduciary what do you think of us I'm curious what your thoughts. Well there's two sides to each argument and I can tell you. Debt when this rule winning the force we had to raise our minimums. In order to take on client. Yet we went from as you read it for those who don't know Iran wealth management company in our minimums prior to the fiduciary rule 250000. Dollars to take on a new one now there either for 500000 dollars. And that was a function of we couldn't afford to take on smaller clients be cause of the by do you fear rule interest. Because it adds costs yup this is that frankly a lot of cost to be your practice. So the good part uses. That when you are acting as a fiduciary. You are required by law to your clients' needs ahead of yours as of right so we are working with a Morgan Stanley broker. B if in your managing your retirement money with the Duchscherer rule you had your. Needs and behind that decline. Now with the absence of the finishers rule you're gonna be able to sell products to clients. And not what they're need to head of yours. Does that you understand yet and I'm just panic if you I I've tried research this via an and I am just getting both sides and I. I feel like intuitively that the future rule makes a lot of sense because it says that the clients need is what works right in which seems like common sense to me but doesn't mean either gonna make more money this just means that Klein knows you're always doing in their best interest. Without the fiduciary rule you're gonna have brokers that are saying. You know by this. Ray deal offering by this and new year by this a career high cost product. And the the difficulty will be. Is. You know investors retirees streak is its retirement money right could end up losing two of their money too bad investments and getting poured and it could get pretty litigious too. Because I could be a I mean spirited client. And you could do really well for me. And then I find out what she found an index fund and had four basis points you have one in five basis points Barry what do you do when you're ripping me. You know so there's there's that part of the trip but it just I think the bigger issue though news. The what it did to the small investor because. The small young investor I have it happens all the time him where people say Barrett got a 100000 dollars to write a wanna hire firm. We've turmoil. Can't help but now will that change with the fact that the displeasure from now because I'm not willing to go back okay thank I'm not willing to yeah. Regress. And and say OK well you know we have this other division and else Aaliyah products and duties of about will do that. So I bet there will be brokers that rule. Will benefit from parts. No question about that because now it's gone but again you know buyer beware make sure that you know the person represented you have as your best interest because. At the end of the day you're responsible for for determining that write and that is to challenge will be I think it would investors will find is that. Third people that have a 100200. Running at 300000 dollars. There's not going to be as many people are willing to take them honest on so be careful just. Or save more money in and say that I after. Next or be talking about a drug. That has been derived from marijuana. It helps people who have epilepsy that is our next topic on the financial exchange will also have the answer to a trivia question. Barry and shut. Alex. Who had a child with epilepsy. And she was bemoaning the fact that she was like one of the people. That was out there campaigning. For. Medical Maryland this is before we even had recreational room one she wanted medical Merrill. In Massachusetts because. There was a theory at times just the theory that candidates could help with apple. And as it's turned out that has been the number one area and I think we've seen real improvement. Anecdotally in many many examples. And now we're start to see a drug derived from marijuana has become the very first to win federal approval. And experts are predicting an avalanche effect FDA just last Wednesday approved the first Canada's derived drug. For epilepsy. It's called at the public's. And it's GW pharmaceuticals designed to treat to rear forms of childhood epilepsy. Using a marijuana compound called CDD. Against a federal approval. Kind of historic because he's the first of many things could be a whole lot the warning though that to people shouldn't just. You still need a doctor's prescription yup. And you wanna make sure to get this particular compound because that's what I can tell you what what was going on before John before he had medication and people were self treaty. And they were you know in and I talked to a mother who had a child with epilepsy and one of the problems they had lose. They couldn't measure the strength yeah I didn't know if they're giving the child too much you know little. You feed anti CD kid I mean it's you know. And there's concern that they'll still be a little bit about going on to. As well as the well they're concerned is that darn drugs would be so expensive and so what's gonna happen is that likely to turn to less expensive sources CBD. Such as those sold in marijuana dispensaries I think and we still get back tinkering ingesting and we'll try this and see if that works out. And that's a game the only plane around so hopefully you'll this is gonna get. As we talked about earlier approval from insurance companies. Which would be nice you know and and and have people take this as prescribed him as needed with regulation. Heady feel about this next story hedge funds looking to profit from personal injury law suits my first impression was. This is not good yeah but then you know you think about litigants right and let's say you have a press Egypt. I don't know eat you'd get. Hurt. At the job that rate the yeah yeah analysts and you decide you're gonna sue rates when it's great yeah it's gonna kill rate if you're in litigation. Yeah so now hedge funds are actual cease. Financing these lawsuits against individuals. Against big or corporations you know if you think the people have the right to assume. When they've been done wrong. The fact the matter is they can now tap the capital markets. To get the best possible legal backing that they could yet and give the people that you see on these commercials on television every half hour daytime TV. Give them a run for their money and I'm sure they do a good job but. You know. As far as I'm concerned you're right if you enter more competition yet more capital. Well now a hedge fund comes and goes up to 35 and oh by the way we get the backing of and we had better lawyers and we got a whole staff of so yes so if this could actually be good for the consumer. I doubt if it's a written notice things you eat the there's a part of me that dislikes. Lawyers if it's and it's like a really big part of me like if I'm a 100% it's 99%.
