This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chunks of you are exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your date your city your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and chunks. Eight. Bidding war has broken out for the assets of fox we'll talk about why and we'll talk about who the lead dog is in that war. We'll also discuss General Electric's under the gun that they were booted from the Dow Jones Industrial Average after more than a hundred years. Of being in that index. And finally. Marriage is out of fashion that means you two guys her not passionately tiger but it's Berrian truck with you here it's a Wednesday. And this bidding war for Disney is in my opinion getting dangerously. Hot in. I think there may still be another rounder to in this when you look at a Disney raised their bid Disney initially bid. About 52 billion dollars for these assets from fox. Comcast came in last week after the AT&T Time Warner deal was approved and Comcast said patriots who wanna pay 65 billion dollars. Disney coming back with eight cash and stock offer for 71 point three billion dollars 38 dollars a share up from their original 28 dollars share offer him. Fox came out today and said. Yeah right now we like the Disney offer best which is pretty much Comcast make your best and final and let's see if we can get this thing a little bit higher on hold. That Rupert Murdoch had dinner with Bob Iger from Disney last night and that. Disney is his preferred dance partner. And I think part of that has to do with the fact that there's been a lot of chatter that his kids would do pretty well in that situation. With one of them ending up potentially as a future CEO of Disney and so forth and and I know that's kind of been something that's been talked about Newton an awful lot there are so I would imagine that's probably his prefer his direction yet but because Bob is Bob Iger the CEO of Disney's. Already long in the tooth he's he's I think 6667. You're so yes he is he turned 67 back in February of this year. That's old for an American CEO of the company decides it is in in I mean he's he's been at Disney. For a while at this point I think. Try to think of going when you take over as CEO in a while and why was it 2005. May be or six like thirteen fourteen years now before prior to him was Michael Eisner rate the CEO who was there. But he's been at Disney as being since like 95 sees a 2530 years. In that business now but there looking for and who's next in a big one of Murdoch's sons may have the edge there. If five this deal one's going through they would be the largest stockholder in Disney they would be and an inlet this if this deal done do you think ends up with. Disney. You do it I think they I think they want the more I think they need the more men. So what are they need the more because Disney's whole business right now is. Production they are a production apps they don't own any wire in anyone's home like Comcast does Comcast if they don't get this they say we've got NBC universal. Great we stood at the wire into your house we can still figure out ways to make money Disney. They don't want competition on the production side they want to own his many big assets as possible and in particular the thing I think they want and look you don't pay seventy billion dollars just for this. But they want that X-Men license from fox studio I heard as a bigger asset is The Who. Is it that a very important part of this transaction is too I think they probably. Is certainly it gives them an edge if they're able to acquire. 21 century fox stake in Napa because they owned 30% which would mean that Disney by virtue of owning another 30% would be the majority hole majority owner of Hulu at that point is you control and they have the ability to say okay we're gonna do what we want with this. And kind of put the screws to Comcast and AT&T someone rule in the other 40%. I will follow that I mean B two trucks point you were probably to see additional bids. Don't be surprised if I'm gonna predict now that Comcast comes in with a competing offer on Sunday night 75 billion my guess is Disney wins like eighty. Oh General Electric you've probably heard the news getting booted from the Dow Jones Industrial Average just adding insult to injury. Yet in GE was a member of the doubt before it was even the Dow Jones Industrial Average they started back in 189622. Years ago. And they've been a founding member in the Dow lost since 1907 when the Dow Jones industrial index was actually. Created but they're getting the boot and looks like Al Walgreens boobs alliance is now moving in the in their place what I find really interesting. You go through the Dow companies right now again is this is the industrial and it's the Dow has a whole bunch of other indices for transportation in this and that. Here's the number of computer companies that are actually industrial companies that. Boeing. Caterpillar Chevron ExxonMobil. Home Depot. And three on yeah. Hands. I guess you could say Procter & Gamble someone is the economy's changed united technology. And really that's it's silly it out of the thirty companies are actually industrial companies in there. I than that's a whole bunch financials and tech companies and medical complex to be itching to see the future GA. I still have serious questions and misgivings about the currency Il. And you know the last ones note gave the beach I'm not real sold on the Sony. I think the the big question that you've brought up and kind of where did they go is what's the killer product that they have and they can't answer that the the only thing their big products have been they do MRI machines they do wind turbines they do jet engines. They'll spend it other than that would've liked what they have in common you know it's it's they they don't have a killer. Killer via technology now. Lou we'll see we'll see what happens marriages at a fashion I came across a story about Tiffany Tiffany is a jewelry company many of you or are. Fans of their products but the marriage rate is stocked at historical lows. But sales of engagement rings at Tiffany have jumped 11% this year that's amazing. So bear fewer marriages yet Tiffany gaining clearly a big share. Well let me tell you the rings are not cheap I took one look at them and said not happening now now it's it's. We compare boring so like they're like 50% above everyone else prices. So what is the day. It would it would people spend on an engagement ring now is do they go based on months of salary does it go base like pat and how do you. And it you guys did this more recently than I'd probably old wives' tale is three months' salary pretty much as a guideline no I did not do. Our phase curious the idea here here's the thing that the stat here I like to throw stat. Do and how much Americans spend on engagement rings and urged them come this is according to a study from the knot which is a big go wedding web site. And this 12015. The average spent on engagement rings is 5871. Dollars. Big chunk. Chunk according to the US Census Bureau 48%. Of American households are married. Today token. In 1950. It was 70%. Big drop what do you look at the wood to wood that we attribute that to a gate is it's an article about Tiffany. And and so it doesn't going to explain why we've gone from 78%. Of our households being married in 1950 to 48% today. I like to what do we attribute that. So if you look at the statistics. And and and kind of look at it by age you know the biggest thing that you see is number one people get married later. Right so number one like you have yet easily be people get their ordinary teams are you you have less people be you know being merited any one given time the number two is you have increased divorce rates in particular. Among older people who then don't read there. And so as I see that you know I've got a lot of friends who get divorced when they're in their fifties. They are effectively married with another partner but they don't know Mary never get married because they'd already been divorced twice and they've already been divorced and they used to wanna go through and the third piece is there are a lot of people I can't tell you how many people I talked to in their twenties and thirties and just say. I don't believe in marriage marriages and for mile an infant it may be because they saw their parents go through divorce it may be because. They read something on the Internet like I don't know but if there's a whole bunch people say they're not doing that. Our poll question today is do you live in a married household you can participate in the poll by visiting our website financial exchange showed dot com. I'm curious to see what the results are. Of our audience. Do you live any married household. Financial exchange showed dot com. Or Texas at 63566. Should you care to me it's an existing home sales numbers that broke at 10 AM eastern time good or bad. Disappointing we are expecting to see existing home sales up one and a half percent year over year instead we saw them up just point 4%. So not good numbers they're coming in at just five point five million units compared to expectations of five point 55. And the big reason continues to be. No inventories you know there's the dangers are not homes available right now. And that's the biggest thing and it specifically not not homes that are priced the way people want them to be part you know people can't buy homes they want yesterday we learned track. The added cost to building a new home. Is 9000 dollars due to the timber that timber taxes and Canadian lumber it's steep and you add the head knowing you executives still. At most don't believe that number does it just seems so hot. How courses longer normally cost an owner that's the problem I don't know if that was used to be 50000 dollar Spencer yeah home. Or used to be 20000 dollar but for to go up 9000 dollars so when you're buying a house. Just be refueled the house. You're your house went up by 9000 dollars did the tire OK I've found something actually on this and this is according to cost how old dot com which I had no idea they're accurate in any way shape or form but they say typically depending on the location. Lumber cost for a home. Or anywhere between fifteen and thirty dollars a square foot so let's take the middle that called 42 while in your building a 2400 square foot house about fifty grand normally. So it's gone up by 20% gap. But the lot that's it seems a lot to me and you think coming up. We will be joined by Tiffany sue from the New York Times to talk about video game prediction is that I think this is it video game addiction sure there's probably some truth there there's probably some people who. Fall into the category that art but it probably asleep that you guys Everett did you ever know somebody who's a yes you did yep me talk more about it all right well anyway that's our next topic on the financial exchange. In exactly the complaints in Massachusetts really tough for landlords and security deposit accounts. You have to give them ten in certain forms when they open up the count and you have to pay interest and you. And we should do all this canal through Z deposit all of that you can do Thursday deposit it literally takes about forty seconds opened up an account. We handled the automatic forms that are generated in the account number department commission statement all that said lieutenant. And interest descent to the tenant automatically every year. Tiffany's so we're we're kind of through the looking glass on this at this point where the World Health Organization now says that quote gaming disorder. Is he real thing can you talk a little bit about what they're talking about and why they're including it here. Turner OP get HL has done that that the based seen an increase in the number of heat is that are being reported. Involving players were spending so much time on video games that aired with the other activities at life. Though they're not sleeping they're not eating and not socialize aimed at the hearing stories of people who'll. Have pretended to have a job but have actually been sitting in their rooms planes per hour at eight talking to strangers on. What are the guidelines as far as what qualifies is gaming disorder and what doesn't remember growing up like I have times where I'd sit down with my buddies and we'd spend you know literally 1516 hours straight playing video games one night in new Waller pairs were asleep look what Walt office. The idea that you know it and it actually are quite that at the moment the WHO essentially he. Described eating disorder adds people who partake in game being. Particularly when it is the exclusion of other daily activities. I think what's going to happen down a plane is that medical professionals are gonna. Thought our hatter. That that they see in the report. People come and. So Tiffany mutt my parents put a lot of candy crush on their ipads how do I get treatment for them. That is an open question actually for the story than ever talks about how. The treatment environment especially in the medic aid is kind of a wild wild west situation at involvement it now. Specialized certification date no governing body that got this standard. For Carrey have a lot of general mental health professionals who are used to meet Petri depression and anxiety he is he who. Urlacher of any guidelines. Directly about Kimi disorder you seen those other. Methods to teach me something that they haven't had a lot of XP. And as a result. You have parents sometimes where we're desperate for care who are spending and that out the dollars on. Wilderness camps there or inpatient programs that don't have a proven success record. Tiffany why does it seem like this is popping up board game and there are there similar things in place like if someone. Plays baseball too much or someone runs too late to do we have some more things in place for that are wide why gaming what's what's unique issue. There are other disorders. Involving gambling Fort Campbell that that right and a night. Earlier and it hasn't been codified in place so. Think gambling disorder out a pathological gambling has. Many many certification involvement on some would actually see too many. Of the beat. The three point eating disorder is too much action now is because me. At the video game market has exploded at two point six billion people around the world where planes at. That that increased. Even Hank you're. Interesting Tiffany we appreciate the time thank you very much. Tiffany soup from New York Times talking about video game addiction and gaming disorder I read something where some of these gamers actually Wear diapers because they don't wanna take time off but that's weird that's very very. Where billions yeah you yes. You know you've seen that. You rumors of the matter reports of that you know when in China. You know away when they're playing close to 22. Hours a day almost. Which is rare it's pretty rare but com. But yeah I've seen it firsthand Andrea former roommate in college. Who Adam which is stopped going to class users playing 814 hours a day is thrown out. He's got a severe. Warning it would happen he. Smart and up heated now he had to burn his GPA area yet you severely addicted to this. This brings us to the Oprah watch league standings where the Boston upright currently in eighth place right now is that with a win loss record he's four and six. I did it is really thing with the channel that people watched it wedged. Twitch and that's owned by Amazon now. They had they had one last week where. Drake the rapper you know. He played what I think it was it was suggest some played some game against I guess the best coordinate this game four tonight against this guy called ninja then they had 600000. Viewers on average sports. We got as many people those who won actually. Just you know late CNN or something on given. No I don't it's more it's it's I was candidates realize as a against the ratings for twitches just mind boggling. The number of Americans seeking Social Security disability benefits is plunging this is a good news story. This is some of the best news frankly that we reported in quite some time this month. The government announced. That the program would not run out of money Social Security disability until 2032 because so many fewer people are pulling. They'll fewer than one point five million Americans apart for SS DI last year the lowest number since 2002 and additionally. In May of this year. Eight point 63 million workers receive disability payments in that month that's down from a peak. Of eight point 96 million in September 14 so dropping by about 4% now since that peak there are so. It's you know something that. We really haven't seen sustained drops in disability payments in a long time. But he does appear that you are seeing it. At this point one thing they did. Recently Wednesday retrained. The judges that saw these cases and over Kazaa so if they had a judge that was approving. Too many cases on a statistical basis yup they sent him to retraining or hurt to retraining. That's contributing. But I think the overwhelming issues the economy's better CU actually got people who have been collecting disability for an extended period time reentering the workforce never seen that. You do and in particular the how you qualify for disability depends on your education level and your physical fitness level. And so what you're seeing is a lot of people who previously may not have had jobs accessible to them because of their education level now have no jobs. That are now accessible. You know it's nice to see the people actually want to go back to work yup you know it's a number of factors contributing to the decline in people collecting Social Security disability coming up next. We'll be talking about the most popular rage at which people collect their Social Security retirement benefits. Like this on FaceBook and follow us on Twitter. Time now for Wall Street watch a look at the market's performance so far today until Berrian jog right here on the financial exchange radio network. Mike Armstrong is now with us for Wall Street watching Mike let's start off first with CBS they were up about 5% yesterday. They were. Effect around for a half percent to. And an update will be rolling out nationwide on delivered prescriptions something that we've really been waiting on CBS for awhile and on the strength to eat their lunch. Today stocks giving back a little bit of that but nonetheless. Big move that yesterday with the announcement of the actor deliver. What's going on with Starbucks obviously one of the big. Not retail restaurants at the they're they're down about seven point 4% today. They are and obviously they've been in the news left right center recently. They announced their clothing 150 US stores act comps sales growth is expected to ball below forecast for the years the big news here mystery district character look. Story that might be a good thing that the concerns that cops sales that are struggling to keep up with competition McDonald's and Dunkin' brands sure there's but that the 2 o'clock so as mentioned Starbucks down right now seven cents. Winnebago Industries up 10% is ever going going RV and now. All the millennial they're kinda are these again. The recreation maker and that buck and two cents a share the last quarter that yes that's pretty considerably. Revenue beat estimates and new products are performing well. This ten you know pretty pretty interest in camp beta watch as they had fallen out of favor for awhile especially right after the Great Recession but that making it big bounce back. Very good thank you Mike. Mike Armstrong with Wall Street watch. And waiting for Starbucks to go through. Change me it's just so quality expensive and in there's no like I'm not a Starbucks guy but actually I see a lot of people in the office ogle might you know the young people in the office will be allowed in and bills make a run to Starbucks today in the I've never been a coffee guide to begin with some line I don't understand it but it's IA. I just I I don't understand how much talk particularly just a regular call her regular coffee. Sixteen announces it's about 264. And it can be that's 99 cents and what about it McDonald's how much is there about 99 and what and Dunkin' Donuts now it's probably. To. When he something Doug is that something gives that expensive I. I get a double check that OK but it's definitely over two dollars. You know I used to order the pods from Starbucks and then they just cut out of sight in terms of price and now I found another brand and went to San Francisco in it and tried their boring and but now found Salim I'll orient it is really good coffee and apparently that's actually unions on break. Dallas canola when around my iPods Amendola can they get via Amazon. What year round as well just. But store brand typical store brand stuff I think I got a from Brothers are no I you know I got from target action decent prices now. What is the most popular age that people take their Social Security. I was surprised when I saw this easy it's not a good statistic. No 34 point 3% of people take Social Security. At age 62 meaning they're taking the lowest benefit available to them. Oftentimes they take now benefit because they have student they they want to retire they are retired and they need the income. The next most popular age is 66 where you see about 18% of people take it 65 is number 310 point 3% and sixty sixes for retirement entry. It is what's what's really interesting point three point 9% of people take it between age 67 and 69 almost no windows they're pretty much every one if they're gonna wait after 66 weeks until late seventy. I can see why people take it at 65 because they say well I just wanna have my Medicare deducted from Miami Social Security check I think that is a contributing factor. Mike but they keep your boomer most of my peers can't collect the full benefit until they're 67 in yet only three point 9%. Of people polled take their benefits at 676 down that's amazing. And only three point 7%. Wait until they're seventy to take the benefit now. The the reason for taking literally is if you're in poor health. Courtesy if you got really bad health that's a good reason to take it at 62 you see a lot of people to your point taking it at 62 just do at a financial desperation. Yeah yeah you do and and the problem is if it gives up a significant chunk of monthly he just terrible. You know it's something if you wait two years and it's a 16% bump if you wait for years it's 30% higher mean. Where else where else in today's economy can you get an. No it makes a lot of sense to wait he can work to grab a pencil and paper I'm gonna give you very important phone number in its related to an event. That we're doing at the crest view country club. What do you do to protect yourself financially from high cost of health care what do you do as it relates to long term care insurance what do you do as it relates to trust plan. And by the way Barrett is only just an update there's only a few spots left and us all right well be better call now. Crusty country club Wednesday June 27 poll number one last time. 80393. 4001. Speaking of western Massachusetts. Mass mutual is poised to received 46 billion dollars in tax breaks to bring a lot of jobs. In a brand new building in Boston seaport district it's going to be seventeen story 240 million dollar office building. That is being built down at fan pier that's all new jobs to write the ones in Boston where someone's. In Springfield is relief. It is that a relocation of the infield jobs it is so it's 88 it is a real location on those but the Boston went to going to be completely new. And so I'll tell you what that seaport area was down there on Monday amid a friends for dinner down. I hadn't been down there and probably 34 months of this changes every sixty days this stuff that is going up it it is just on who were you park. So I found a really cheap garage actually it was eleven dollars for the night which was new cheaper actually can take the train which is why did sensitive had a disaster is probably the seaport there's no way to get there. So there's a couple options so you can take the train into south station and then use the Silver Line runs down that way which is kind of the bus and it's a bastard guy's little you know it doesn't really do a whole lot. And the other option is you can take trained so station and you can walk which it's not about walked down there that's not to water political aisle. It's depends up or down you don't mean there's stuff within a ten minute walk half mile there's other stuff that you know it's a twenty minute walk but. Watkins not awfully not a big hop and a car it's gonna take ten minutes anyways traffic. Well the the deal that they have with Massachusetts is in order to get the 46 million dollars. They must act not it did doesn't mean you know keeping 2000 must add 2000 jobs. In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts over the next several years Connecticut has to be reeling from this. The deal this is a big blow to Connecticut to both to the town of infield to the state Connecticut I mean I think Connecticut is like three hedge funds away from going belly up. Now let's hope not until you know you keep it just seems that lake east of lake Bridgewater ever left. Yeah. I mean like you're talking like there's just so late it's. It's a state that all of the revenue so heavily concentrated in such a small group of individuals it but what happens is these states goes through cycles and now what's happened is the you know we talk about the cost of housing we look at the cost of housing Connecticut. In many parts of cat and affordable it's very reasonable rate in so then companies say well gee. Maybe we shouldn't relocate to New York City let's stay in Connecticut because we don't have to pay our employees 90000 dollars a year we can pay them if they live in Connecticut realist and 60000 dollars Shia. So I think he you do go through cycles. I I think Connecticut will turn the corner and just yeah has to win is anybody's guess. CBS health will now deliver prescription drugs to your home. A Smart move and CBS. I put CBS in the same category. As Wal-Mart in that. Smart move that leaked to the dance. And offered slate because no one else's and it. No one else no other American pharmacy then is doing as you can get drugs delivered online but not from new CBS where you get all your other stuff right now. On any other thing they're doing that is different is the deliveries are going to be in one or two days CNET you don't order a week or month in advance or anything but that you get your drugs mailed to you. Through CVS on line the eagle one and CDS and get your Staten as the winner mr. Ron and them. May go all this does is give you 48 hour. The boy I think that's the big thing is it's it's it's more rapid delivery. You know. And even they're saying it's going to be one of the young mother was sick kid isn't gonna wait two days because there a box no eventually they need to get the same day they do have a same day delivery that they're gonna offer in about five cities to start off for 99 now which they get it now and I might be worse that you know if you have a sick kid did not have to go out and leave them or something to bring a way to get sick kid or an elderly person that you know anything about Z unit as. I think this is targeting. The elderly in many ways because some of them are shot in long term they need to get that same day down to that five dollar price point and I think that's kind of that the key piece there. And if they can get down to five dollars for same day delivery I I think it's gonna be real winner fourth. Coming up we're going to be talking about a new science. That is going to help you were. The children to service trustee so they're doing everything like it's their own their own asset buying and selling it Sandra but if they appoint an independent trustee. Who decides when distributions can come out to the child if anyone at their siblings know they should be an accountant or an attorney and they can remove and replace hold it really the boss they don't get stuck with a you know some crazy attorney that's in there that that doesn't want to give out assets. For some reason Tucker 72% of our audience lives in America council. But he garner from that. I don't know what I that's pretty much in line with what I thought it would be given the national average is only 40%. You talked about this polymer science to make avocados edged avocados and avocados and other fruits and vegetables. Last longer in our refrigerator like if you go as I do in you by your fruits and vegetables once a week right. But the into the weak there start to turn. Like times even before that depending on the fruit vegetable grains in particular grapes go bad quickly. And so this this guy James Rogers to is a Ph.D. candidate in materials science US UC Santa Barbara who he founded a company called appeal sciences. And got back from from some big names and injury snore which is one of the biggest gates. Digg is the biggest venture capital firms out there and Bill Gates also. Giving hints of capital and pretty much what he's come up with. Is this coating that it uses Clinton based materials. To create an invisible natural coating object perhaps you you would I was worried about that it was going to be some kind of a wax or plastic but it's not know it's a natural products all made from Mino like peels of fruits and vegetables and things like that. And pretty much what they do is they how ordered them and then they mixing with water and they spray it on the outside of fruits and can help them last significantly longer. Wonder with the if it does seem to affect taste. And it doesn't seem to affect the meet the nutritional. Needs it's all from what I've read on the science is it's all good. One in the big things if you Lori grocery store. This is something that concede you a whole island of money I don't know if you looked at spoilage rates. Four different groceries I have to use. I'm out now on it's too bad if if if you look at things like spinach and lettuce in leafy greens yeah spoilage rates can be anywhere from thirty to 40% so it's just because they go bad so quickly so. Grocers might say look. Will pain extra 10% this we can sell little ending up that 40% that we would lost so. Frequently throw out a lot of spin it says been there for five days or something fresh and mentioned. I don't know like music and increased the cost by 20% and in some cases even if it is a fifteen or 20% increase we can still save grocery stores won't rate is based on as well Jim. Ford and Volkswagen. Are discussing plans to develop vehicles together these are two companies. Volkswagen has been mired in scandal for the last three years and forward. They have been it would make much money. Known it looks like what they're talking about is not necessarily making passenger vehicles and it sounds like more heavy heavy duty commercial vehicles. And things like that so I don't know if that means a full fledged move in to be semi trucks and things along those lines. Think it sends up in a merger do you think Ford and Volkswagen and up as a merged company two years from now five years from now. Why would Ford dude I don't know that just punt on sedans. Well the eagle reason for doing it would be economies of scale. And did the reason they're working on this project together is to develop a new vehicle is very expensive it up and and I think the logic here is. You know you you work on things together we've seen this before with the other auto manufacturers but often times it does lead to a full merger I just. This going to be top merger because they're both pretty good sized cup. They're they're big companies you know if if your Ford the thing that tracks to Volkswagen's they have. Major inroads in China that you don't write if you're Volkswagen Ford's got. Big inroads in the US in terms of their trucks and so we're the only W doesn't happen. No Volkswagen doesn't make it traps or at least nothing that sold and Divx and suvs and I think they just made their first to may they have one or two suvs but there up because there have to pick analysts note that no they certainly don't. Secrecy somewhat of an attraction there but. They did to kind of wrongs make a right you know like neither of these are great companies right now. The Volkswagen had their problems. We'll see their capable rumor re emerge I like what they're doing in China vote if you read about. Auto makers in their relationships in China the top two or Volkswagen and General Motors. Oh yes there's that they're the biggest ones there are amazingly enough kind of the new year top tier vehicle for a lot of companies of these company cars in China. You X yeah. You know it's it's kind of that tier below mercy that's the real status symbol in China is an at a BO yeah I mean it's it's it's you're not a CEO were you know CIO or anything there. But here you know pretty big time. You know markets are open right now the Dow is down 38 points the NASDAQ however is up fifty in the S&P is up four points. There's a lot every week had a residence and four main buckets. If an immediate annuity where you give insurance company reminding guarantee pension yet fixed annuity which is just a predetermined rate for a predetermined time. It index annuity and variable annuity and those two become a little bit more complicated. When we talk about the different kinds of annuities which ones might be more appropriate for someone who wants to take on a little bit of risk in order to get some additional growth. Well variable annuity typically is one where you take on more risk you're basically investing in different types in the market. With some guarantees attached to them whereas an indexed annuity you have no potential for loss. But you have limited upside potential as well in a fixed annuity is probably most similar to what we see with they CDS certificate of deposits except it's not FDIC insured and absolutely correct usually the terms are a little bit longer than a traditional CD use it won't see for instance a six month fixed annuity for your general. Are getting richer whole week how a lot of people that clips in that billion dollar of the festival assets category we'll talk about it OPEC. They get a pump a little bit more oil what's the impact going to be on gasoline prices that you're paying after Labor Day we'll discuss that as well and then finally. American Airlines. There merger with US there as long complete. Now they're gonna start to restructure and fire employees tight everybody it's very chart with you here it's a Wednesday morning. And no. In Ayers had a pretty good your extra. They certainly did the the will of millionaires rose ten point 6% this is across the entire world up ten point 6% rising for the sixth straight year. And topping seventy trillion dollars in well five million millionaires. In the United States. And to millionaire defined folks as having. A million dollars. Of invest able assets could be a million dollars in the bank could be a million dollars in a broker to count it could be a million dollars and CDs or annuities don't matter but it doesn't include your primary residence or collectibles or something like that this is an idea of a newly do you actually have a million dollars. Pretty much liquid that you can you does and include my stamp collection. How does that work these things to him on either so United States has 5285000. Millionaires Japan. Not bad 33162000. In Germany 1365000. China 1256000. Followed by France the United Kingdom Switzerland. Canada. Australia and Italy notice Russia's non no not. But I I just recently learned that Italy has a bigger economy than Russia and and why I didn't know that action of big industrial centers in Italy. It because you have a whole bunch of valuable port locations and things like that I just think the past. Thank you good food when I think of it that I think of of good food possibility that. Anyway millionaires do what it one of the reason millionaire growth tends to accelerate. Is when you have a million bucks. You probably have other sources of income and you're not spending down on your savings in when the market goes up 1520%. You benefit from. OPEC and Russia are promising more oil I'm not sure they're gonna actually be of the pump as much as their promise it's you know I don't necessary. We trust a lot of OPEC countries to be able to increase production but Saudi Arabia can try to do it at the flip the switch if they want to. I wouldn't be surprised if you see this end of going through just because the US has been leaning on Saudi Arabia over the last couple weeks. Not to pump a little bit. More why would it may make. Right now the year west Texas is trading at 65 men with with Brent difference it's only five right so. Why do what's the impetus for Saudi Arabia to pump more in and go from 75 to seventy bear. They hit that would seemingly hurt. It in theory it does. I think that the big thing is potentially. You know higher oil prices do mean more US production then and in theory the saudis don't necessarily want a ton more US productive probably causes people to look at other forms of energy creation is well right now it wouldn't like. 75. Is gonna lead people who say well let's do more wind let's do more solar well and we saw even I think it was last week group we reported. That used sedans are seeing their prices bid up you know the gas prices are higher people were started say maybe a new more fuel efficient car actually can't go get them maybe don't need it yet don't need the Toyota Highlander -- can get by with the sedan exactly gas prices by the way down about five cents in the last month national average now down to 287 after being 292 heading into Memorial Day weekend so at 311 us. Would you pay Tucker. Not that I by. I know you know I did ask him who 93%. MySpace is down 299. To 99. A lot. American Airlines will be in laying off managers. And they're gonna try to slimmed down they did that merger with US air. Now for five years ago and now they're trying to cut some of their staff. Yet and an airline mergers star by the way they're norte notoriously complicated to try to walk complete just because you got to merged ticketing systems and all these different pieces. But they are going to be slimming down. Some management in particular. Not in marketing IT and revenue management. Looks like they're gonna be doing a whole bunch streamlining there and obviously not get rid of any pilots because the needle pilots they can get there's pilot shortages in a lot of cases. I actually was talking to watch a couple different pilots over the last. Few weeks and airlines are ramping up recruitment of pilots pretty strongly just because they see this shortage that's coming at this point. We ended their ramped up like how how do they ramped up in it the wages aren't particularly track you look at the education you need to be a pilot. A lot easier ways to make a list. It's what in the in the problem is that the entry level when you're flying those regional jets seedings now that. You're making like thirty to fifty grand a year and so they're they're bumping salaries on that and and to get certified to even fly one of those regional planes. Yet to have I think it's 12100 hours. Yet it in obviously well that's a lot what all the airlines look for an a perfect world they want people coming out of the air force or navy pilots are things like back there to have a ton played hours of training. But they're just not seeing the numbers that they want to so it's it is one of the one of the biggest problems are gonna have ten years from now is trying to find. Enough pilots for all the air travel that we have you know what they're gonna have to do. He's raised the retirement age for pilot they are to have I was talking I was taught have to do it again they've bumped from sixty to 65 where they might have to bump it up 6768. And ordered a trying to get things where they need to be you. You look at it you know it was 6040. Years ago ranked. Yup and the health of the seventy year old today is probably what it was for a sixty year old forty years ago and there are a lot of seven year old guys editor Mary and gals that are capable flying a jet over Yahoo! and absolutely. The they've their bets a story worth following. Another story worth following is so wrapped deaths or reptile is a pharmaceutical company. Located in Massachusetts. And their shares were up 40% yesterday for. I I should've studied this about him bio tax ID eight should have been a scientist you know that's the way to make. Money it's are up 40% yesterday up an additional 6% to date by the ways of continuing to rise. The market cap on this company has gone from around six billion dollars a share up to ten billion. In a span of two days now. So a big bump here that you're seeing for them in the big thing is they are developing a gene therapy program. 4 AM pretty rare disease called do Sheen muscular dystrophy and and so it looks like according to the results which were just in a small three patient sample. Apparently they showed us some improvements. Ian and I guess one of these genes that normally would it was a problem gene and and so this is a disease that normally kills patients before the age of thirty. And apparently by changing these genes around they may be able to significantly increase lifespan. And really no one has seen results like this before so very small sample only three patients. Really interesting to see this problem. It's nights at an aide asks is the number of millionaires off because it doesn't count people with a million spread out into multiple cats maybe we miss communicate number of millionaires is way. Yeah it's it's like greater than it's ever been before. And then another 978 saying gas watch and Drake at Massachusetts to 77 again and it's the that's it. Thanks got and it says that's in our poll question today has to do with Mary wine. Well in nineteen and you these numbers I think they're pretty shocking. In according to the US Census Bureau. 48%. Of American households today are married it was 78%. In the year 1950. And our poll question is do you live in a married household. 74%. Of you saying yes we live in America counseled 25 saying new. Vote your conscience and Aaron just vote go to financial exchange oh does come in castaway. Joining us on the line now is Adam Shapiro from Fox Business here to talk about. The movie we saw in the markets yesterday Adam thanks for joining us. It's good to be written. Adam you know went out when I first woke up yesterday and saw you know futures were off almost 400 points and you see Elvis about tariffs and say okay buckle up this could be a wild one. This was a pretty controlled so often I almost thought there were some positive signs in the afternoon and in the session. Well I ended look the bottom line of silicon for a positive. The Russell 2000 is up almost 10% for the year you so you know that that would that's a woman usually indicates a credit toward recession. And a lot of people make it just hit 10% in the year to date. So you know don't let people point and stay small cap is that it would benefit is the result of the trade war but. The fact is that when you listen to people need demonstration and if an economist. They don't expect I'd I'm not saying it trade wars good but they don't think that the negative impact on the United States would be as. Catastrophic or bad as people here. Saturday and it's raised the cost of the house by 9000 bucks if you would build a house because of the timber tariff it's up 9000 bucks. Rabbit that very tight about it treatment Canada practice yesterday and you had Chris to feel and the minister of foreign minister and candidate think we can work. Fair and workable modernized NAFTA does so they're still doing that and even today Navarro Peter Navarro was on with Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business talking about the distant parents. And either specifically about China. You know right now we're not in trade course. We are for lack of better term you know that the administration appears to be trying to leverage the strength of the US economy. To get concessions and in some respects. That's confessions. Look with the Germans are off and mean you've got the ambassador Rick and outcome in Washington. Talk about respected German auto makers are willing to go to the EU and they dropped all air. Is the response on that those they want all of the pickup truck tariffs. In the US. Bingo yes total the United States dropped its 25% tariff on truck you know this is going to be variant distinct between air trait it's fair trade or are we willing to walk the walk in that you know but the talk the talk a lot. Adam here's a question on this just big get a looking at that specific topic we just mentioned. Is it possible that on the back end of this we may actually end up with fewer tariffs than we had previously. I think that that would be a positive if that's what actually happens but this is the very. You know stressful and tense game ticket that the administration is buying it and Robert Mike Eisner. From the United States trade representative and there are some weird unexpected consequence it's a yesterday actually was in contact with the UST arbitrator that in his office. About the China situation at a very simple question. Whereabouts starting July 6 to slap tariffs on 34 billion dollars worth of potential that these are intermediate. Good that you know basically component. That come into the United States. And if despair occurs though you you'll be charged what 25% tariff. And then those components get put into products for finished goods to ask the US ER or what have. Take the component. But I assemble a finished good. Offshore and then bring the finished good in the United States that the terror apply. And the answer is no to to put this simply if by make and and I found in the United States with component that is subject to tariff. I now have an incentive to assemble offshore and then bring it all it is a finished product in which case there's no air. Gotta be careful with it because we're talking of possibly an erupting supply chain. And you know a global economy manufactures have alternatives. And one of them missed not assembled united. And one of the things I've been looking and also specifically with regards to the China situation. The reason that were it in kind of these negotiations or at least one of them is because of the big trade deficit that we have. With China at this point what that means though is that we get to a certain point or re imposed tariffs indicate responding time because they're not importing as much for us from loss. What other responses are out there that they could considered that. Maybe we need to pay attention to. Well let you know eat eat that is by the way the strategy that the administration is the point is that China has far more to lose than do. Side they don't Moines register at least just had headlines over the weekend in which it's at Iowa farmers. We'll lose 600 million dollars because are steadily takes a million dollars because of threatened Chinese tire. So the way that the Chinese will land or expect to retaliate. Are in ways that would it hurt president trumps electric bass. And with the mid term elections coming Republicans on Capitol Hill who might be in states where it's could be impact. Are not going to be very happy. If that is indeed but the Chinese news that's what they could retaliate there's an argument that they would start selling off. US treasuries. The problem with that though is it would. Caused the doll little news value which it would make our exports more. Affordable world wide but it would also. Increase the value of the Chinese currency which would make their exports less affordable. So they have to be very careful benefit of Iraq and our administration has cracked but they're not without ability and one of the abilities that they'd go after our agriculture Specter. Adam all obviously without all these talks about tariffs and so forth but. We've we've got earnings season coming up in about three weeks when it kicks off four Q2 what kind of numbers we potentially looking out for second quarter earnings of companies affected all by this uncertainty at this point. I'm at this point no because you know there was a lot of by. You know we've we've got to wait K but fingers are crossed and the there is the economy itself by the way. They GDP is that I think he'll at that that was her relatives that thing we can expect four point 8% Europe. Now they always provide that number EU but you know it seems to be optimistically at the US economy despite that it trade. You know war with different trading partners of course of the largest economy in the world China. It appears to be that we are still on fire. Very good at a thank you for the time we appreciate it. And it. Adam Shapiro from fox business and narrate it's time for trivial trivia sponsored by Arnold's restaurant and clam bar. In east ham Massachusetts. No I oaks is chuck and Mike from the financial exchange we're talking this month about annuities and specifically. To our strong advisory group got the truth about annuities Mike. Let's talk first about some of the benefits of annuities when it comes to tax deferral that's probably one of the main advantages that you get through the use of an annuity. Correct I mean if you think about it traditional investment lets you go out in your bias CD that's paying you 3% interest. You're paying taxes on that interest on your 1040 every single year. With an annuity you might be able to get that same 3% rate of return. But all the taxes are deferred and he decide to take that money that can't be an advantage for somebody in high tax bracket today. Other benefits that are on their you have the ability to add these writers either income benefits or death benefits on new. They are and that's where things get a lot more complicated and it's very much dependent on each individual situation. Yet there are writers on there that can guarantee you that you get a certain amount of income for the rest of your life. But depending on your own current income situation that may mean up valuable there are things like death benefits and market protection. All sorts of these different things to be written into these contracts but they do come at a cost. The downside due Newt he's the two biggest reasons that people have issues with the sometimes. They do lock your money up for long periods of time was surrender charges some of the newer products are able to reduce or in some cases eliminate those. And also you do have to worry. So the proposed millionaire tax. Ballot question may not be dead in Massachusetts after a day after the State's highest court struck down the question. A state senator said he'll revive it. By follow filing a proposed legislative. Amendment to the state constitution. In January. I know nothing about exactly lately do you does this have any chance of getting through this amendment. You know you think it does I'd I don't know I shouldn't say and I Ollie knows Jason Lewis. Said his proposal would be identical to the ballot question but because it would be a legislative proposal. It would not be subject to the same constitutional. Challenges and less to raise it basically would Jason wants to do. Is race taxes on anybody earning more than a million dollars by 4% Siegel from five point 05%. To nine points or 5% but I understand is this is. Failed miserably. In every other state where it's been done in just awful results for you and you look at places like California and Connecticut where they've done these ludicrous moves. You just chase out the the type of people you don't wanna chase. Well the the good news on this it's not something that. Has the potential to go before voters any time before 20/20 two good so there's at least the there's at least four years until near this potentially ends up. On the ballot and obviously that have to be allowed that to happen in order for it to be able to go through him but. It doesn't look like it's coming through any time in the next four years at least the second longest economic expansion in the United States. Is. Going to it will reach nine years in length as of June 30 of twenty teen so. It kind of strikes me that guy I look at what's going on in the economy today. In there's nothing I see on the horizon that leads me to believe that we're gonna go into a recession into. I think for the next six to nine months I feel that way and I'm hesitant going out longer than that. Why I think there are some concerning things happening on the credit side. Both in terms of consumers and some businesses to be honest like you're CN businesses that are starting to over leverage a little guitar about companies like AT&T. AT&T Comcast Disney like you you start to see companies leveraging up a little bit more else takes is one of those companies that pick up right. You know AT&T'S debt is only raided two levels above junk. Not great and imagine if they went to junk bonds that Sammy may make a lot their coverage ratios look good but they. The aid they have great cash flow but it wouldn't take much to interrupt. The the other stuff that you look at Andy beginning and I wanna get too technical or anything but you get the US continued issue higher levels of debt. At the same time that you have international investors not buying it which means we have to finance internally which means we have to increase savings rates lower spending and that slows you know growth in the US down the road so. I look at some of these things there's nothing imminent but it tenure still low rate during 285 whether it's if it's not about whether it's at a low rate or not it's about whether or not you have to pull money out of what otherwise would have been spent and invested in order to fund the government. And that's something that in the long run becomes a bit of a problem if you can't rely on foreign. Buyers to effectively. And neutralize that so it's something to watch not this year not. Early next year but I think eighteen to 24 months out of something that has me a little concerned. On our FaceBook page read a couple people trying to figure out how they could sign up. The crusty country club the poll number this last time 800. 3934001. FedEx speaking of companies holy cow did they have a good quarter what I loved about this. The FedEx story. Is the revenue increased eight and that's the big thing is they they saw a big increase in revenue and it was across the board. You know that they were seeing business moving up. On their express business on their ground business there revenue was up 10% seventeen point three billion dollars overall for the quarter. And total revenue for the year was up 9% they continue to see accelerating. Growth at this point. How much though. Would FedEx and UPS be impacted by all these Amazon delivery services that we see McKee you think about your community Tucker where you live. She's easy Amazon trucks everywhere now right you see the post office doing lines these deliveries. And like how how the U if I'm if I'm Amazon I'm trying to think of ways to cut out UPS and FedEx I don't want yeah I don't wanna pay. They are but think they can't hire enough people now you know it Amazon of these is subcontracting out delivery. Not because they want to it's because they look we can't do would all internally or it'll be like wouldn't if you're. Innocent and are you saying to yourself. Why do I wanna pay FedEx on and do more and more this with my own people internally yeah it's if that guy deceive eventually. It in design competing effectively that they are very far at this point. I think the big thing is that FedEx you know you look at the growth of online shopping and while Amazon has a big chunk of it. And one toppings chrome for every merchant. You know so FedEx and UPS they're still going to be able to pick up those other pieces there and say look we can still do this job. And you know it if you are. On the away fare as an example okay. If you're the shipping something small lamp or some down. Wait there's not gonna go to their competitor Amazon NC shipments now they're gonna go to UPS or FedEx and say you need that market is growing fast enough to keep addicts. Do and and in the the numbers kind of bear that out gave him well. Would we do we say 11% growth. Ten and and I'll tell you that the big question that I have with both UPS and FedEx is how the heck they're gonna hire this fall. Well I have the big ramp up for the winter that if there haven't had trouble. How come Amazon and they again as they aren't they due to like I don't think any of these companies are going to be able to get the numbers they need. For that that surge in employment they need in the fourth quarter guys these no slack is that I don't think they can find people with the use six now anybody and you sexson in weeks. It's down and like the mid to low sevens right now and still pretty high and unity. The U six knows it's it's in line with like we're we've seen during other good economy it is. Come on pull it up but I saw the chart on a previously. The spread was still high because the regular unemployment rate is with 3839. 38 right now yeah right Tom pulled up the U six and is trying to here we go. On OK yes sort seven point six right now so that's. The real level of unemployment is seven and hampers to put this in perspective April 06 and eight point one why nobody if you look go back if you can look at the use six back in 2002. Which is there are 20052006. A bad news that was lower than it is now. Eight point seven in 2005 in what is it now seven point six. Even you go back to go back to the late nineties okay alive 99 tech bubble in knowing you're blowing that tech bubble is is right Anne Marie seven point five. Thanks so that is that could level that is the participation rate. Is where we say there's three million people that are out of work that shouldn't be today and and that's the issue but the U six of Vuitton of people in the labor force. But it it's just tight as it's been in the last 2530 years when the problem in the participation rate a lot of that may be too Newton chemical dependency in which case no original want those employee anyway you not to be driving UPS truck letting you know and we do anything right if you're a drug.
