This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chunks of you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day you're sick leave your world. Stay informed and up today about an economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chuck Exxon. The drug administration is threatening new tariffs on 200 billion dollars in Chinese goods. Having a dramatic impact on stock prices the Dow down 363. Points. The senate is going to stop. And reimpose sanctions against ZTE. And then finally will take a look at our friends north of the border as to how they're responding. To try terror hi everybody it's very and John Moody with you here on a Tuesday. I think we have to call this city trump tax increase Tuesday. Well okay yet tax increases another term which Richard used to describe tariffs and that's exactly what effectively is. But I I think it's important to just bring listeners up to date on on what's going on here because we here terror this tariff that it's a back and forth and we kind of forget what's really going on up we forget there where it started. Basically it's this it's three steps the US imposed a 25% tariff. I'm fifty billion dollars of Chinese products. That's what started this okay that we felt like it was justified but it was done. China responded on Friday. By announcing a 25% tariff. On 34 billion dollars of US goods so they responded. In a muted action compared to our action is sixteen billion dollar difference yet we identified fifty billion. They said okay we'll do 34 billion. That's a victory was at a state it was was that the and all of branch on China's part. I think it was China saying we feel we need to do something we realize this is not a real big deal. But it's a pretty big deal to us and we need to respond so. I think of what's taken Wall Street here today is the trop is really taken this to a new level. He asked the US trade representative I was watching this last night when it happened she was the simplest side and you know most of the idea and it Bloomberg if I don't know. Tomorrow is gonna units and we're very you know trump asked the US trade represented to identify. 200 billion dollars of Chinese goods for additional tariffs of 10%. If if China goes forward with its terrors. So again you know. We took our shot they responded and we came back is suitable if you're gonna respond were particularly we're gonna nuclear. This is really taken the trade wars to a new level again. There's there's no way that this could be a terror from 200 billion dollars attorneys with first off we are define me 200 billion I think it's the total was ordered fifty billion so that's a lot. And it is really kind of a 49. To identify those parts and also we've been told that the president told Tim Cook. Guess apple a day or that he doesn't have to worry so we take before fifty that we have we subtract all that apple product. We're down a pretty much everything else. And the officials what what is the I you know I for the life of me. I've been trying to figure out the logic behind this because I grew up all of my education news as a free trader and that was the Republican on track for fifty years free trade free trade tick down Altera no tariffs. And now sudden and where we're gonna have terrorists and tax increases. And I I think the did the basis of this I know the basis this is the fact that the China has made it very difficult for US products to gain entry competitively. Into their market. And intellectual property that it which is a huge issue and so yet there's there's definitely justification that China has not playing. By the rules and have failed. I don't think anybody debates that. And honestly it's not the matter to them now because. There wasn't a whole lot of stuff that they have that we really wanted to Obama. Net now all of a sudden you know they have more for consumer economy and it's a little bit more of a level playing field. And you know we feel like they're not playing by the rules that said. This particular spat today. Last night is really taking the dispute to a whole new level and the problem is this COM and worried about until now because of stock market didn't sell law. Right you know on the on the Canadian stuff that didn't sell on the European tax increases didn't sell. Today the market's selling off mean you look at the S&P Dow opening down more than 1% in again you know the question is. Does this stop we get to the point of no return. And the answer is sometimes you get to the point of no return to flee before you realize it's there. And and that's this is this country look it's highly unlikely. An all out trade war that he impacts all of our products not their product is highly likely we get to that point. The problem is the example of a major trade war or a lot higher today and because of what's happened. Didn't the senate last night hurt. Trump in what they did with ZT I mean because they're they're basically trump said hey we're gonna who allow. Our tech companies to export to ZT because he got a call from president east today. You're gonna really screw us if you don't allow the east tech companies to export to ZTE and GTE. Is the poster child for intellectual property that they may have broken every trade law. In in in the school in now the senate is over and over turning Trump's decision to allow us to export to ZTE. It eight that's more gas on the fire descent to get via truck ticking off China and now the senate is going to be taking. And again I mean the president was trying to science. Find some opportunity for compromise eighties trying to find some common OK you know will give it is the key thing. Now all of a sudden talk about a mixed message if you're trying to. You know the president is now taking a harder line in and the one thing he didn't take a hard line on the senate just voted 85 to ten. To authorize military funding which is the primary purpose but also reimpose sanctions. A CT eaten packaged. And it really early ninety from their directive. Would he do not fund the military and the overwhelming majority of Republicans. Voted. On this package as you said because it's pro military. So yeah this is of a very messy situation. The one bit of advice I gave you is historically. If you were investing based on. The news of the day on trade. You may be very very large misting. You know we we should point out that this is all within the context of an economy that's growing probably over 4%. With full employment. So as good a time duties and that may be the argument that but at the others the other token is when things are going so well why mess with them one eyewitness to the parties though. That's where we stand and you know markets are are just very uneasy and you fight the fire when you've got water in the and you've got water in the homes there's no question we're dealing with a very strong economy. An issue for those of us who those of us who own you know mutual funds that have exposure overseas. My emerging markets fund is just getting crater. And part of that is problems in Portugal and Brazil and Argentina. And you know when when we sneeze. When you get when we get a cold world gets the flu and that's what's going through their the ramifications of this are being filled. Felt across the world and particularly in emerging markets which really depend on. Good relations between United States and China and the free flow of goods and right now we have good relationships and missed including our friends north of of Canada if you we have a trade surplus with Canada. Trade surplus and and yet we are entering into trade war with somebody that we do well. I heard some would say if you can't get along with Canada you can't get along with the Golden Retriever I mean the the numbers are. We export 341. Billion to Canada and we import 332. Billion from yes that's a supports it it's a great relationship. I mean where where it where neighbors we trade with the each other we have a slight surplus but it's a fair deal. The candidate now indeed the individual Canadians are basically what costing American goods saying while we're gonna go. We're not gonna be T you know if you go to this flight to Florida or zone. Full Canadians right the or pick up. Yeah I go to put it on the cap for the summertime my river when their maiden and a lot of the cars that. Ontario could back there knock on the young at the margin there I think you'll see some decline now obviously a lot of people on the cape. Bought their trips months in advance. They're probably gonna show up Padilla had so if this thing drags on. The consequences. Both among our allies in our enemies and are are substantial most a professor's salary Carnegie Mellon did the study of this. They don't adhere to it in other words. Bill bill people when they sing along in a boycott comedians are gonna boycott German goods. They always revert back to the world shopping and as right now they're not buying Kraft Heinz Ketchup to right. States enough buying cars and Canadians are buying cars that are manufactured in the states. I guesses in historically they've always revert back to. The boy carts are temporary but I think they do bite at the margin in the near term so. As you said though the economy is strong enough right now that. If Canadians by a little bit less Heinz Ketchup. Life will go will do okay. Pay up next are we talking about student loans can they now be discharged. In bankruptcy and we're gonna talk about whether the should be allowed. To be discharged in bankruptcy. Here's old move among many judges that would allow old student loans to be discharged in bankruptcy that's also going to be our poll question today. Should you care participate go to web site financial exchange showed dot com. Should student loans be allowed. And we're here to talk about a brand new product available for landlords it's called Z deposit dot net Jake. What. Barry we created a security deposit product. To really help the problem a lot of blame border facing with security deposits which is. You know one it's time consuming to open the small enough security upon numbers sons. And yet to go into the bridge yes signed paperwork and their small dollars and in the turn. And it's likely to complaints in Massachusetts really tough for landlords and security deposit accounts. You have to give them ten in certain forms when they open up the count and you have to pay interest in you and we should do all this canal through Z deposit all of that you can do Thursday deposit it literally takes about forty seconds opened up an account. We handled the automatic forms that are generated the account number department commission statement all that sent the tenant. And the interest descent to the tenant. Automatically every year. This sounds like something it's going to be very valuable to large landlords it might have 200 tenants and small landlords that might only have five tenths yeah absolutely with a large landlords. It's just a lot of hassle to managed so we make dad very efficient. For the small landlords a lot of them are afraid of nineteen complaints done correctly so some of them some of them don't even like taking security deposits were hopeful that this hope and do that. Folks if he'd like to learn more about C deposit go to their website seed deposit dot net. Or you can call and speak to somebody on disease deposit team it's 7816418691. Call today 78186. To 1190 easy does it. Master license number. 10183. A sort about student loan debt. I mean it's here the numbers 44 million Americans. Oh collectively one point five trillion dollars. Average debt for the class of 2016 which is a couple years back it was 37000 bucks in again that's the average. So there's a lot of people level lot more than that because there's a lot of people have minimal debt who you know went to the State's school and you'll have modest debts of the average being 37000 means there's some pretty big bills while tell you what they'll say I knew I know young lady. Who went to a state school Bridgewater state brake in time she was all done. It was 44000 bucks and a while yeah I'm needed analyst Evelyn and dialogue no army we look at the tuition you look at the cost of living. You might cost you money to live to what you do that. It it's a lot of money now in bankruptcy. The question is who people say that this is something that cannot be discharged in bankruptcy. Eat it can be the peaks or circumstances are staying right there has to be if if you're handicapped and you're never going to be of the work again. You might be getting discharged which I think is curious though is the judges. Nor are there are looking at these cases. Are saying. You know maybe we years as well Tuesday June you know in charge of our judicial system maybe we should be allowing for a few of these. Dissolve if you do set a few precedents are right rightward judge says yeah we're gonna allow that 80000 dollars to be discharged in bankruptcy. Then it's Katie bar the door well you know there's a little bit of nuance here because prior to 1976. And you could discharge your student loans and bankers. It was abused. And piazza well final just declare bankruptcy. You know. Eight years to have not great credit when I might not be get much credit anyways yeah I think you would be abused now all totally different innings and gradually the debt was in in 1976 it wasn't much. Now that you're talking about it trillion and half dollars I'm more than all the credit cards look if it was a lot out you would see people. Going into bankruptcy. Renting three years in and say well as by my first home and not well and even have to go through bankruptcy I've seen people by house three years that's traditionally we hit it wouldn't. It would definitely be abused but. Your point though is is well taken. Judges are using a little bit of discretion and doing what they can within the law to give a little bit of light to people in such situation. One example is. They've been known to actually canceled debt from an accredited schools that. Panic yet like if you probably shouldn't you made a bad decision right it's a real debt. But that's not always bothered me about this year signed a contract and you borrow that money. There was disclosure language in their saying you can't just discharged in bankruptcy you're personally responsible for the that. The problem is a lot of these kids were 171819. Years old. And maybe they weren't getting a lot of support and guidance from their parents. And the other issue is that some judges have been known to allow students to make payments during the chapter thirteen debt repayment period which are fairly reasonable one approach to take so. Again the answer is. Largely. It's still cannot be discharged in bankruptcy but there are some exceptions Angel and seems to be swinging. I think if words towards discharging. I think the pendulum swing to a point where at some point politically you're gonna see him move. To eradicate a lot of is that we have 44 million people that vote exactly what do they say if if you owe the bank. A 100000 dollars you're in trouble if you all the bank a hundred million dollars the bank is in trouble. Those tried a million and try trillion 1000000000005. They cut a lot of zillions eggs a life and and yes so the pendulum politically is swinging. And the other Democrats raise this is a major issue. The Republicans have talked about the fact that is the major problem. So something might be in the line politically dumb line beat curious as to your perspective on this topic books should student loans be discharged in bankruptcy. Our website address to participate in the poll as financial exchange showed dot com as always you're welcome to text us. At 63566. You know only the the problem I have is you know my kids of all paid their student loans off I've paid my student loan off so I I would be. I would be very reticent to allowing them to be discharged through bankruptcy they Baghdad just personally. Because I table why why pay mine. Gain and the thing is I just think you would end up having a lot of people strategizing to do artists. Preempt absolutely and and that just takes you down a real nasty path and then what happens is. If if there is a rise in people saying we'll now go to that expensive school and don't write out a clear especially if there. If you do that the cost of of educational go even higher because all the dead beats what the secret for about underwriting loans. Privately and just say hey if you wanna apply if you're gonna go to college. In your crappy high school student right right why why would we vote you the money. Yeah you're exactly your Mickey did duds in high school you're just going to college for four years of party in yeah we're not loaning it money well in Al a lot of people take deposition in. Courting the government let you could join the army did exactly if you will direct you towards the military we've got the front lines in Afghanistan and we'd love to have you over there we'll we'll we'll pay for will take care that was hit your issues. Yeah and in August and if you if you if you do see a spike in that you'll see an inability and an unwillingness to lend him which who create a whole new crisis see that's what I've always felt disease patient these loans should be under. And you know if you're studying it if you're graduating high school and you're gonna study sociology. But don't expect to be the moral. Two underground to go to college that was bottom line you know you want to study something where there's not a lot of income in the amount that you may be to take the class on line. And and you know what went went when I point them out people like oh there's a lot more to edge question then just making money I that. But at the same time how are keeping in mind just a little bit. How we gonna pay it back for each and like how you're going to subside how you go to live right after you graduate. And move out of the house and you save yourself with isn't that parenting. Conversation rate that you had that conversation with your son I know I had that conversation with my five kids yeah. Not all kids have that parental influence on me not all kids are are getting the same level parenting. As others. And I wonder if this is something that in the grade school and especially in the high school. You know we have our student advisor and you know on the faculty can try to incorporate in the discussion. Sound way of having like an in game of how you can pay for this. And what you gonna do with that degree I mean I I'm all for one of these liberal arts degrees out but it at the end of the day when she gradually got to find a way to. Pay your lifestyle. A good lending officer could figure this out right if you targeted if if you talk to a guy that worked as a lending officer for or mortgage that. Under greater right right they can figure this out in our vacancy. Well if they go into this field this is going to be gearing up. I read in the U bigots to study historically if you're sociology major in your obvious social worker I can tell you. You're you're. You're not gonna have the money to pay off a 100000 dollar for the student loan correct absolutely. Financial exchange showed dot com a site participate in the poll you can text us at 63566. Time now for Wall Street watch a look at the market's performance so far today but I do Berrian jug right here on the financial exchange radio network. The Dow was down 399. Points John and. For the Atlanta out of the 400 I appreciate your putting it in the the the market correction. I attribute really to these new trade tariffs and I called a tax increases they edit why we call and there are tariff is attacks. President trump is making a decision. Increase taxes on imports from China potentially 200 billion dollars for the imports I think it's a mistake at least that's what we have been trained he. It you know he evidently knows something I don't know. But the market sell off. Market selling out because they think that this trade wars been taken to a new level with the latest move by the United States as you said looking at we should put this in perspective. That in order to look at 200 billion dollars a full potential products. That could be could have been up you know terror imposed on. Why this is particularly interesting to have two or one of our listeners is. This impacts Mormon pop up because now we've gone from the industrial stuff that you know might affect borrowing and caterpillar. Now we're dealing with the stuff you buy and Amazon and Wal-Mart right. And as you said that terror is going to increase the price of a lot of the things that we buying every day. Start looking at raising the prices of a lot of our goods it kind of offsets the benefit of having a tax cut. Because on one way you're getting your taxes cut. In another way even make it to questions begs the question if you and are having this logical conversation. Right we understand that this is the way we were trained. Why is he doing. Because. The fact of the matter is a lot of terrorists. Add in obstructions have been set up to keep United States products from selling in China. It's very difficult as you talk to anybody does any business in China to do business there because. The cost prohibitive so. Will we get totally the reason why you do this has been. But at some point this becomes. The point of no return where everybody loses. Including the consumers in both China and the United States and I think the fear having your Wall Street is. You know we get the tit for tat if you know as we've had a story before Wall Street view on. This again heading into a dangerous area here now. Our poll question today is should student loans be discharged in a bankruptcy 35% of you say yes they should. 64%. Say no but the text messages or getting on this topic. Our property. Consistent. Finally writes no discharges student loans as a taxpayer I'm sick to death of getting screwed you know thank you finally you legitimate point that's how I felt it's a life of 2339. Bearing no discharges student loans for everyone else has paid their debt 774. Berry paid out 60000. Dollars of student loans in the first year I did. I don't that are bought and I've bought a house and my second year LIC he says he's named here. And engine light Italy do as I and a young man in turn force one summer and he voted up on some student loan debt. But he can't play and he said during what I'm doing is when I graduate I've already got a job for when I graduate I'm moving home. In early may after graduates are my job on June 1. And between June 1 and the following September and pale mice involved in about 30000 boxes and confident just to move told his dad didn't charge many rent as long as he used the money pay out as well and then in September department does but he seed duke. It basically cost him a little more than a year. Of living home in order to get used to. I just and his old man and that's fantastic that's just great. I agree 100% without techsters just play devil's advocate present in the how this much worse than if I say you know. I'd like to buy in new Lexus and take some exotic vacation Bible the Bible then to upgrade my wardrobe. The beyond my means and then file for chapter wash it and go bankrupt. Do renting for actually be different areas several trillion that was done like that 2008 yeah. So you know is that any more moral. If I do I get it that's how the judges the right now I see that that the problem here folks whose. The judges are. They're in sync with your what you just stated. In all it's gonna take is a few judges to say yeah mentally it discharged that in bankruptcy he'll find some method also appear if you're judge. And you've got one guy. Who you know bought the Lexus exotic vacations. The beautiful wardrobe. And then flushed it down a bankruptcy like OK I'm cool with that. And you got another person. Who struggling. Who did not intend to default on a student loan but now can't afford to do despite his greatest efforts look people wrong. What we're saying the second guy doesn't even have an opportunity to either wrong or. He's wrong but the guys are bought the Lexus exotic vacations we provide so it raise an election debate although I agree with our techsters. US housing starts total one point 35. Million in May compared to an estimated one point 31 million here's the stat. I'm not sure I believe. Again these numbers are not huge and in perspective these numbers are very good post. Great Recession now here's the number I don't believe. Yeah you're gonna have to convince me who according to the survey. Expensive lumber and added 9000. Dollars to the price of these single family homes yachts January 2070. Is that possible lead 9000 dollars of lumber prices gone up that much how I don't lumbered you've. Yeah do you think about when you drive how's that being framed right yeah you you look. They're not using tuba for season two by sixes two blade story you think about all the roofing. That. That's the staffed. That one on the and it's again. Comes back to attacks that was placed on Canadian lumber you talked home built on the veil they'll tell you that it's a real number. But I didn't know it was 9000 dollars. Thousands are at it as an increase yeah I mean that's that's a huge number. You know look one point 35 million is is a very good number. But permits were ripping the permits were down for the second month and rose a lot of people are feeling like this may be the of the cycle that's the number you talked about is an eleven your whole life. So in this sort of new lower expectation. Post recession environment to 2008 it's a real good number. But housing continues to not be a great benefits the economy and how we're growing 4% with out a strong. Tail wind from housing. A lot of economists would not a fun as possible but I think that cause for optimism. Because if you have a 4% yeah key rate rate that means that wages are going up that means people are stronger financially. And that housing could be the next shoe to drop meaning that act could be the next leg up you mean to Beckett helpless if housing gets it wrong. All the sudden. You could be looking at 4% GDP. Eighteen point one think it all of you you could have successive years of pretty strong growth no question about that and I think it speaks to that the rat. Of the recovery because in the old days not that long ago. Our economy when it went. S housing when the economy went very. We were told that you know there are so many jobs associated with housing. But when housing is doing well. The economy does well when housing goes well the old saying was he can't have a strong economy that house and guess what we did well with bought modest house and we think we. Yeah if you're going your way and the end of the measure. Public this oil production number you see ten point nine million barrels per day unbelievably you know the beginning of the year you and idle talk about the fact that there were wildly optimistic forecast the United States by the end of the year could get to eleven million barrels a neighbor like an obvious this is not Saudi Arabia and that's not gonna happen. We're ten point that means record the rig count every week keeps going higher. Fracking is going like crazy. We still have that said 64 dollar price which I think is help. AA yeah you know that they have the I wish I think yes the sweet spot I really do I wish we could get our arms around with the real numbers. Members nick at number five years ago these details well in order to have domestic production we need ninety dollar crew member. Yet there was eighty knows there's seventy in is it 65 like what is that. What are they don't tell. That that that make it profitable prefer fracking. What I understand is that it's really difficult to calculate because there's so many small operators. And there are some large ones now along the larger ones that scale they're number might be 45 dollars a barrel. But a lot I've heard a lot of the smaller operators could be 5055. Dollars. So I I don't think the answers I don't think there's one number. Because. This has been so democratize. Judgments only you know private equity firms that have their own little fracking operations yup. And a lot of mom and pop players in this industry that might have fairly high breakeven costs so I don't think there's one number I think 64. Is in the green for everybody. Math works is a privately held company in Natick Massachusetts. And they have expansion plans John it could add 2000 new jobs in Natick Massachusetts. And it's still prime. Employs 2901. Of the biggest employers in that sector in the area kind of wonder like. I I understand why I would want to remain private but he's got to be on yours would like would you do with the company. Well you know Seles it's consistently profitable you go public. Perhaps or perhaps he's very happy with the size that the rat and growing modestly and content and consistently. And he doesn't have to deal with quarterly earnings projections which allowed him to be heat. Semiconductor stocks have been under little pressure lately but does that represent perhaps opportunity. Rashid Thomas pleased with seeking alpha Rajiv thank you very much for joining us. Thank you John great to be back their program. Fantastic now you're looking at Lam Research. And is lamb being punished unfairly with the big drop in its stock price this month and obviously again today. Yet. John I'd love is a semiconductor equipment they got. So what it does is test equipment to companies that want to make semiconductors. That are in the pro are making semiconductor as. And there's been some concern openly attacked and there's been slowing debunked all memory chip equipment problem. Samsung Richard. Land or not discussed. And I believe these concerns are legitimate. But this stock is down about 15% and you know they definitely do not deal rare and does belong to a story up secular growth in semiconductor usage. As the world increasingly ultimately. You know you describe the semiconductor businesses and all of go awfully which is basically true there's a handful of companies that have most the business but. The other side to that is do you worry that it's also becoming more of a commodity. You know that may be right forced him to conduct that it's about. That's some of them. Are getting c'mon guys that that you elect look at the semiconductor equipment market. There are five major players and their substantial technological barriers to entry. The he's piece of equipment and that cost millions and millions of dollars each have about definitely isn't getting monetize. The deal when a companies can you make you made reference to Samsung which is you know a huge client. When they decide that well we might wanna do something else we saw this up with Qualcomm to. Point it can be devastating. Yes. Semiconductors huge business bowl loss stopped them and you know it. I'll undoubtedly goes into there and products they make like. Forward. Consumer electronics. But they also spell these products to other in two other players in the pocket and I don't think they going to be getting out of the business. Any time itself. Tussle about the at the end just a basic financials amino that these guys built to survive for a long time and prosper. Yes it definitely they have a substantial cash batted. About it and there market cap is in cash. So they have built for the long term even if there's a downturn. They have enough cash and about cheap to survive. And if things continue to go low you know they conducted their cash balance they can take on more debt. To buybacks sockets in their continued Serbian at this level there and the business continues to be able. Bigger bigger question though a big big issue here is. You know do you view the semiconductor space as a good place for investors to be right now is it has come under fire that's been very weak the last month or so. It's wondering if you think that the sector itself might be undervalued. I think it very company specific when you get into semiconductor as a whole. Because there's so many companies written so many different products. As so I think there's definitely value at a company like skyworks for instance. I'm not to sure about the Qualcomm does you know that not accompanied. Because they have. Some cubs east. Basic issues as well I have but I believe the equipment market is. Offer good value because. You know ability. A couple of pairs and doubt it doesn't really matter what happened. In this semiconductors disk space and don't let. Chant shifts a whole lot different product. Giving prominence. You know what it's like the California court rushed people who made the most money were the ones selling picks and chocolates. Are you talking you've got to be you got on the guy. Guy selling picks and shovels to the semiconductor country. Well put out the granddaddy of mall Intel deal like that. In town. I think it. I think it kind of fairly valued I don't think there's that much value in the company right now. Bet you know it. A huge company that I don't think you you've got to go wrong buying it. I think particularly extent. Safe but not exciting apparently aren't rushing Thomas were seeking alpha thank you very much. Appreciated symbol LR CX William researcher and Rashid Thomas likes. Those companies come and go yeah challenges. Being. Having the technical expertise to understand. Who's making the best components. Yeah that's above my pay grade and and I find the same challenge with Biotech. That's way above my denigrate it just it lets you understand that science yeah right really tough to make a buying decision you know that's were index funds and sector phones play you know if you believe in biotechnology which which I do win but I don't know what darn thing about the science you know sector fund might be the way to go I don't know I mean in in the same thing with the semiconductors. The mere threat from president trump to impose a 10% tariff on 200 billion dollars. Worth of Chinese imports has sent the stock market. Advocacy tumbling but it's down more than 1% and that is cause for concern. We talk about it. Ross going to be talking about whether or not student loans debts should be discharged in bankruptcy and then Parker is going to explain to host herself with this. It's going to explain to us why Mullen meals are bad tempers. Let's start off with the big one. The market down right now it's down 343 point it had been down 400 points little bit of a comeback now much but the bottom line is why the Indy explain the the the Euro over the east terror sick and and frankly folks. I'm gonna stop using terror as that term it's a tax increase on American consumers. It's being threatened by the president and I think we have to start calling it that. He's got good cause for doing it I understand and I understand that the mean the logic yeah I understand the the where we are but I don't like an in Wall Street has been panel looking the other way here are saying we know there's a lot of tipper tad a lot of going back and forth. We're not gonna you know Psycho analyze every move in this this negotiation are battling every wanna call between the United States and China. But I think what what has Wall Street concern here is that we went from a fifty billion dollars which is. Pretty modest when you look at the size of our economies. You know terror for imposed by the United States on Chinese products. China responded with a tip tax as you said art. Terror for 34 billion dollar which is a muted response relatively like if they wanted to really be be equal they said while we're gonna. Increase taxes by 75. And now the president has stepped in and said if you go ahead with that mean. We're gonna look at 200 billion dollars of products were gonna take a look at two or billion dollars of your products. And possibly impose a 10% tariff on them and that's gonna lead to a response by China. Which is how these things start yes trade worst start in this fashion if you want it to the script a ratcheting up scenario. It would involve this which is essentially the president pre preemptively even threatening China. Even beyond the initial terror proposal to a whole new level. And you don't think it concerns me is the president Smart enough to engage in negotiations receives an opportunity were both sides win. I mean he's just he's he's described in the art of the deal that a good deals were both people walk away feeling relieved in the question that's the way to deal. Put yourself in China's position right now. You. Came back with as you said it muted response. And you addressed the initial 5050. Billion dollar chair. Knew all the sudden. Before you have a chance to even decide what you gonna do next your being threatened with. A major escalation here and I just gonna back often you're 34 billion amid does that does not what looked like defeat we have been here here's the thing that. Gives me cause for optimism okay. Gee the president of China and trump talked to correct and they like each. I meet two guys they get all should be able to figure this out. ID like ultimately trump can go to Wilbur Ross and say look this is and Barnett were gonna do. Day in and Wilbur Ross who do you still. And I think gee can do the same thing AG's dictator. But the question is whose court is the ball in the right now now clearly it's in prison injuries. He's so what Z. Wilson I just I think you alluded to earlier reports that a rather difficult position both with respect to his relationship with the president. And his relationship with a citizens and weld a seagate that you were as a back and say you know what. I should never done the 34 billion in the first place forget now. He's gonna have to well in the in China with the worry about his revolution. Right and we're in US we were about the terms. Pork in there right and is waged. And feel like a revolution sometimes they somewhat by guess liberal who argue in 2006 and it was a revolution. And is as conservatives would argue 2008 that was a resolute revolution to. So we do have changes but not quite to the extent that the Chinese do no question about that but it'll be fascinating to see what happens next. You will be nice to both sides got together it's that you know let's stop playing in this game. I am in in defense the president he and I I of that at the urging of our friend Larry Kudlow. Offered to get rid of yours right right up at the G-7 said look you guys wanna get retires with general law all of that. I love that because that. Well he came off. I would've been as of the stolen the Dow what it's like this is getting to be ridiculous let's just get rid of all tariffs which would be the UCL quickly Germany shut up all via the Internet a lot to say to that. No I I like that that was the best line of the last two week. You're 44 million American borrowers who owe one point five trillion dollars in student loan debt. The average student loan debt for the class of 2016 was 37000. Dollars. And the court system our American court system. Is moving towards dismissing. Student loan debt in bankruptcy we've seen this time and time again. We're more and more student loans are being dismissed in bankruptcy our poll question today is should that be the case should your student loans be dismissed in bankruptcy now I will tell you have two sons. That are still paying down their student loans I paid my student loans off. 21% of our audience John thinks that student loans should be discharged in bankruptcy. Undoubtedly some of those 21%. May have kids that are saddled with student loans some of that 21% might be. The borrowers themselves they may be listening to show saying look this is a hardship I got bad advice I didn't understand yet I was doing I was eighteen years old a seventeen years old. Didn't get good counsel. And you know by any of them. Should we do because you know in the pre deadbeat worlds of pre 1976. You could discharge. Student debt as part of bankruptcy. And again I raise that issue of you know if you can simply go out by Alexis and take exotic vacations and and live well above your means. And then declare bankruptcy and that's OK and the idea of doing it. Assuming your intention was right there be closure burdened by student debt burden doesn't seem to me as bad is going out buying a sports score. Or exotic vacations so right now I get there you don't think and I think I think that's what 21% are coming for a that are representing deadbeats they're just saying why you're making exception for something it's actually good debt. Financial exchange showed dot com is how you would vote in our poll question financial exchange showed a calmer text number 63566. Yeah I think this solution to student loan debt is diligent underwriting at time of application for the student loan underwrite a student loan just like you would car loan or mortgage payment. And in terms of them the the student look at what you might do with this degree. In it doesn't have to be all about money. But money has you're studying engineering. Maybe quite a little bit more money to borrow then you would if you're studying. Psychology it's called the basic cost benefit analysis ego and a little bit of that has to be done. So Tucker the statistics don't lie it is not fake news much tees that at this time. He's challenging though. According to sir this is a survey average last night yup. Median tip a millennial leaves their server is 15%. Which is less than the overall median of 18%. There's something in here like 10% of all new rules delete any to. And now they like yeah all other generations worth 3% and it's over 7% higher. So mobile deals 10% of millennial delete attempt at all right. Other generations don't leave tip at all and that percentage resents 3%. Source numbers on one or true. I don't I mean I accept any personal time but hang on him to a story last week. A win millennial are going out at all. And I'll stand side home and drinking so what is it Netflix and she'll lose playing video games like what we're saying and drinking and eating. I guess they they do drink real well give credit union leader Gary. My son and his corporate them all groups like major player I was I've barely enough room and her refrigerator. And there if for two days I don't know where oh where all roads might might question what is. Is is it just young people and it's already left. At it maybe it's just young people may be baby boomers who do the same thing when they're twenty maybe maybe out of your you gentlemen. When you're 22 years old you're used year old man pain and when human right ever and what was the last have a 22 year old papered bird dinner and a rated in the lesser on a date try to frequently. I'd say well your candidate. And to date no insurer but it went out your dad Jim papered and then I mean if you're I don't doubt student loans today. Ever notice eagle go to dinner with your kids and all said they develop alligator yeah I heard that they could afford the best of everything less time your son but it there. Vote your conscience there hard just bow and go to financial exchange oh does come in castaway. Pregnancy discrimination. It's rampant inside America's biggest companies. Natalie it's rough road joins us from the New York Times she had a very interesting piece. With the times. Natalie thanks for joining us. You mentioned about this and this is an area where we thought society was making great progress. But your research shows that may not be the case. Rank well you know there have been obviously it's kind of effort in corporate America had to. Become friendlier to working mom. But we need balance. At the same time another better and bigger companies went bad to get pregnant. Is who want to keep working to have been getting excellent performance reviews. And have the right thing. A border they're pregnant he are patently sideline. They are about it at time there are are a promotion. They can take pay cuts. You know the expense from them at that I want might tell her off which is pregnant or start shelling. In two you know the first couple of years as a mother and. We found is that every rock and yet economic latter you know we're talking about all street and we're talking about Wal-Mart. It even you cite several really glaring examples of what I would call outright discrimination or what he could share me one example of the several that you that you cited. Well we have. Her so many. You know where. There was a Novartis drug failed format it is who was told by air that he should consider having an abortion. After peaceful them. That Ecevit pregnant now on the order not to. Current not do. Seek a management position because quote of mine aren't fortunate circumstance that home being hurt. We had another and would poll we achieved after she got pregnant that. I care advocate that he was old and having babies there's no where are you could go. You know these are really Lleyton. We we had a Wal-Mart worker who asked for. A break or heavy lifting. She put to moderate a miscarriage and her are older I thought to be more US summer now on. But David Letterman show. So. You know a a pregnant it now you create their she kept lifting a signature. Unbelievable and out that these are these are just glaring obvious examples but you know the thing that concerns me is the case is that really aren't glaring and obvious. And the millions of cases where the employer knows okay. She's not she's gonna miss a lot of work she's she's gonna have other issues to deal with that could interfere with the work. I'm gonna make life slightly more difficult war. Yeah that's rampant isn't yet and that it. Well corporate spending more or on the one you know you keep your heels for but. Up. Right and there are there. Oh wait that was that played out right I mean you're talking about. You know in many cute that the women may not even identified yet still. Like start piling up and and you could just eat in a white collar that you need. You know that really pushed into you know meeting with less support clients are not I didn't declined. Or app that the people that meeting in that it leading the meeting. These small things where department and Italian. Oh now you're pregnant you become. A liability or or become that we don't wanna count on the need. But it is. You know it is not it is not just things in bed and there have been decades that they're both academic research which shows that there is a by. And our planet and against other bet. It just that a lawyer you believe in less reliable. Dependable less committed to their job. There's a sense that means it could commandeer a good worker in America. Are are incompatible. I'll tell you Natalie at one thing that I've observed is. You're you're referencing employers. Giving employees a tough time I've seen coworkers. Go laughter. Young mothers and you know because you know the young mother may say well gee I only wanna work three and a half days a week or. The young mother might be getting called out at 3 o'clock in the afternoon because Chester run with the school to pick up the child sick child. That I I'd seen it both from the employer standpoint but also the coworkers. Often discriminate against young mothers. Yeah it's difficult I mean you know in in that started that we it would focus very tightly on a mother who were doing everything. That they possibly could not let children interfere with their career you know at an indicate. You know kind of white collar and earnings that beat your married at that. The Trout territory that they had to go at it and it bit. You're absolutely right they're not there that. Women and and you know is a parent in general I mean. The patent that I think the other that well. You know our app and that the kind of and he added the broader that's about it we think about working parent it in in America but I would just say that you know all or read their that. Bit biased and that the kind of consequences that come from it knows that that client and paying bet that app and from work did not explain it. Natalie I got a eight in your studies do you think it's contributing as a factor to the declining birthrate between the birthrate has steadily been declining over the last ten years do you think women are dissent. Have not gonna take the grief I'm just not gonna have kids. Well I'm not. An economist but we our economy than do. Wrongly believed that it constantly in it actors nick and cute declining interpret it one of them is the lack of their parental leave which is it. You know not exactly right outside. You know. And if you think about a society where we're having women who want to work then want the press and who want to. Right that a year and a passionate about it and better bowl either explicit or implicit ways and that having a child. And that I mean yeah app it what. What that the I mean you know working the current rate decline about young went oh these are. Lead equipment to our coming to work saying this is what I'm gonna. It is when I'm gonna arrive at their. You know it suck and they're not out and they're all there's no room or child means that. Thank you for your time Natalie great great researcher and rock Debbie back for follow up visit thank you. Thank Natalie took truck. From New York Times and I I just think vigil women now in the workplace have. A dominant role right yeah they're they're very successful in the workplace I I think it's a lot less sex discrimination than they used to be. I it's the you know young mothers definitely are given a hard time I look for several good follow up to the story to. We raised many issues that need to be looked at. As Paul McCartney received. In it it's a lot they'd a just the unit that. And daily fasting works for week lost this according to a report it's called Tucker the six. Dean eat the guy knows so little different to New York this is understood I'm on I've I do the once a week very 36 hours left his cents extra yeah yeah I I that if it works for me so this one is. You can only eat between 10 AM. In 6 PM is that what it is and the 88 hour block you program and whatever quantity of food you want and whatever food you'd like to eat is okay. Yeah oddly I gotta tell you the eight year. You can I have I tested assistant I don't agree or caddy used the gel like for what it is as well except. Here's what the survey found a eat and eat your thinking might not conflict what the survey found the survey found. But if you do limit your eating to that eight hour period. You not to lose a total weight. But you're gonna lose weight over time and you were what they found was you'll end up consuming fewer calories over the long term. You do I wonder if that's true what it is a tape because you've become when you fast. You become much more conscious of what you put in your chair. And eat the in the weight loss that you experience is. Now student now this one. Did the best one for weight loss the best fasting diet I've seen for weight loss. Is twice a week where you consume 500 calories a day two days a week in the the other five days you do every one night I just don't eight. My mindset is such that all or nothing yet though right I just have to go full board no calories once a week and that your body fuels and ease. They eat you get a real rush for I actually this is gonna sound crazy to you learn I look forward to fast sentencing. If this I've applied the last thing he did a very Monday is my fast and I look. 42 exiles has a cleansing effect for. It does definitely but I think that this it's an airing it out in your blood sugar yeah blood pressure. And Uga who looked. It measured rate get a blood test and then go back after you've been fasting for six months to a year then results are currently. Tucked chart this morning he was to a media 36 hour one today who he has ya last week too did the 24 he's been out zero. He didn't like it. -- bills I don't memories of the planet and you hated it. I hated to 36 are on the 2.4 Allen was doable. This 10 AM to 6 PM thing is interesting though because to meet if I want to do that. All the would effectively do which I think is actually a big deal. Is we keep me from nighttime snacking yes which is my downfall like when all that's what needs to do woman or Jack it's just Cheney chips chocolate nice screens and and I might you know. I do a lot of exercise and I'm not losing weight and part of that is. I'm burning a lot of calories I'm taking a lot of can get this book it's called the fast die token is or isn't a parliament the commission was just read the fast die okay. And I lost thirty pounds one all thirty pound that's amazing I've been. Ever since the start having it every time my wife would have a kid I gained ten pound it's really all about what you put I agree that the fasting is effective but it really is what you put in your body all the process crap that is out there. To watch where you re pretty much well and when you take it day off you become more conscious of what you eat afterwards that. Yeah energy crate your cravings are different like my cravings today all I wanna eat today fruit vegetables as fast faster that's all water healthy foods yeah perhaps some protein. Yes some lean meat maybe now in Asher checked him that that I noticed when I've where I've done dieting. I tend to eat less and I eat better than which is great but at the end of the day you know get a couple thousand calories a day that you're given. And you know 300 plus or minus over the course of a long time is it differs between overweight and underweight. And it's not a lot of the margin makes a big difference and snacking for those of you may not be offered for dieting. You know just eliminating a few snacks a week. Can be a big big difference. So the states are getting in vault in these car rental companies. Who are. Basically the they're kind of going in the mold of air being B and Hoover. Rate inducing hysteria for his slip their car rental companies that's with the government considers them well they do it and and you know what it is is a guy like you were a guy like me. Says. You know what I know he's my car very much. And I wouldn't mind renting it out it's not a great car and all all rented out in charge 4050 bucks today a lot like what Hertz and Avis do you know. And that's the that's the crux of the problem you have companies like cut called her rope that's teach you are like the town which were without the first star and get around to get around as. As the great great name a commercial for the first one yesterday afternoon. It's a good deal especially from the consumer standpoint because have you ever rented a car and the big airport. Yeah you know and that of the night and the fees on it are amazed well that not only that rate you you get off the point you're you're tired yeah at the point. Then you have to find the box to take you to the car rental terminal right wing of the week in line for an hour has hurt sucks so bad and maybe get free agent and you are interrogated. Barry you're willing to take the risk of taking this car without getting our insurance rates are you sure he wanna take that risk and an H brilliant in terms of how much they charge right they do it they they charge you double. Right so what two or does he got an individual cities that your your son right he's got a car he lives in the city. He says yeah I'm not in use this car Monday through Friday somebody comes in he meets and Logan Airport gives them the keys to the car right. Gets 15200 bucks for renting his car for 45 days. And that person that's renting it from pays half price and doesn't have to go to the dreaded car rental terminal. But also avoids paying the litany of tax cost it because basically. Our government's. Being as courageous as Leo paglia asks you realize. That the one way to get lots of taxes. Is to keep you can attack you the voter from having to pay for so what they decide to do with everybody lies you've told Logan. Who doesn't vote in primary Massachusetts. Is gonna pay for. The convention. The convention senator of the withdrawal realize that I hope to find work or they say well on the rental car just uber crawl used to write I need to drive a lot of miles from companies who were all use one of these car sharing services but the issue here is that in the state of Maryland is saying that these. Service's two Rhode get around numerous places game. They need to play by the same rules as the rental car companies including. Paying sales tax and I say tax I should say taxes. Because. If you get a car rental. Yields it'll itemize everything that you that you purchase and will have. Fifteen different or unbelievable pain I thought a deal like a seventy dollar car rattle and it was like a 160 dollars after all the taxes because a lot of those fixed rate taxes. Whether you get Brett for two weeks or four like right one day right you're paying fifteen dollars for this and five dollars of that so you'll get a you know overnight one day rental and it could be -- 80% tax. But they want they want these. Services to pay. Play by the same rules as the car companies pay up next we'll have the answer in the winner tore trivia contest and will also be talking about a new discount airline that's gonna hit the runway.
