This is the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and chunks of you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day you're simply your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day I can. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck son. We've got good news and bad news to begin to show the good news is given extra data pay your taxes the bad news is. The Internal Revenue Service and their technology systems are so antiquated. Did they crash yesterday hi everybody it's very truck with you here. It's a Wednesday and I just can't imagine. How. A large federal agency could have such an antiquated. Technology system shock that it crashes on the most important day of the year for the. Revenue service. I can understand you can be up. The iris gets less today than it did eight years ago we still on the and we we don't we have spent any money on the IRS. Nobody likes the no but the fact is if the IRS is more efficient means that you can actually pay less in taxes because they're better at catching the people who were cheating the system in the ought have you looked at operates lately the way down now. Weighed down which you don't from personally I'm happy about that. As I don't enjoy the last time I got audited. I got and what's called a no change letter which means that my return was fine yeah. But but it's been 101000 dollars bringing CPAs in in this it was five bouts. Yeah cost me 5000 dollars to have my accountant babysit. The revenue agent for a week because that's how long it took yeah came to my office. And and you know we audited by returned but the what it. What happened exactly like how how did. The they had a system and I guess what people went online to file and pay their taxes and crash. You added that the biggest issue was people trying to pay their taxes the free payment system this direct pay system. Was down and so people were simply an evil. To go and use that they were still able to use you know they could pay with credit cards another piece of those have additional fees attached to them. And so they pretty much said look we've we can't fix this right now we're gonna get a back up but you've got an extra data file. Because the system simply couldn't handle the volume that was coming through that. Shiite I didn't notice and I paid my taxes yesterday I put that check in the mail so I can awaited day. They paid you put check in the mail it's not gonna clear for a couple days anyways and surprised at how quickly. That clears it didn't clear today I checked this morning. And it had clear about the Albany should dollar clears but tomorrow the funny thing is the iris ones clear faster than state ones. O's aren't yet it would which I've typically seen. Wolf I'll let you know hasek is a direct detectable yep it's usually the IRS wonder about a day or two ahead of state. Earlier this week I signed Tucker so Obama our executive producer a very important task. In that task was. To invent and create a time machine so like could make additional money for my clients are you doing on the time sheet this is news to Maine. You eve eve yeah evidently because if I don't know much from Tucker we could go back in time would be able to you know and Delmon back then anyways and tell you invented time machines. Well at any rate the reason you wanna have a time machine is so. You could go back in invest thousand dollars in Netflix in the year 207. In a much money you'd have Tucker. I do considerate. If if you invested a thousand dollars not a lot of great even in 2007000. Dollars was not a heck of a lot of money. You put a thousand dollars into Netflix back in 27. Be doing pretty well today. About a 102000. Dollars as of today. After Netflix knocked the cover off the ball in the latest earnings report they had him in soared to an all time high. A 338. Dollars per share company now worth a 145. Billion dollars. Which is. To be honest is somewhat mind blowing if you take a look and compare that. To some of the big media titans in the world and look at the biggest one Disney. Disney has a market cap of a 153. Billion dollars so the market is telling you right now the debut Netflix. As being effectively as valuable. As Disney is today blockbuster memory had this is trivia question blockbuster could a bottom for fifty million dollars now. I happen is that they think Netflix is a great product from them they. Make it awful lot of money. But to say that they have the same overall value is Disney. You pushed it a little bit on an in my wakes up and it. It feels an awful lot like kind of a Tesla GM scenario we're Tesla made a 100000 vehicles was valued the same as GM who made millions of vehicles. Yeah but Tesla is ramping up the care of library is growing by the day they seem to come out of the regional content literally every day Netflix as you mean you know. I think producing word wolf original they are but are here's the question are our people suddenly just going to start spending. The more money on on Netflix and they ever have on entertainment previously. Let's see our mean they picked up two million domestic subscribers in the last quarter which is beyond like I don't know anybody who doesn't have a Netflix accounts on trying to think. We should actually have that is a poll questions and there's a difference between having a Netflix account and having the company being more 345 billion dollars and you know lake. Play out the string how many people do you need to happen or did generate revenue that's anywhere near the parable for. Now you know. 300000400. Million I don't know they can get to where they need to be you know placed it there international growth now eat you know they have more international subscribers in the have domestic subscribers like I'm I'm aware of it I just I looked at what you're paying for here. It's company with a PE ratio of 271. That. Yeah they're they're they're growing but you're paying for revenue right now not earnings in at the end of the day earnings are what matter reverend you I could build a company that generates a billion dollars in revenue but if it doesn't earn anything what's the value to me. They can raise prices. To do what you make more earnings. How much they can be able to raise prices Tucker I've gone through this like if they go up too much further their hitting and Evelyn do you think so and see I disagree I I if they went to fifteen dollars and still pay. If they want to tall come out ever said that really doubt it already paying now. Was at 1099 day here at eleven. That I mean it just rays aren't there is him again when my dad if there if I had the Max package designed the 515. I met fifteen now yeah. Yeah I mean I had heard it it's so insignificant. Though you know what I'm looking at is the Hulu package. And but that's them saying is again once. Let's say that Netflix no longer has Disney movies and obviously fox studios are being absorbed by justice of the army the fox stuff anymore and let's say that Sony says hey look we're gonna have borrowed. Yet they're gonna have their own original content him. But how much do you want to pay for that in addition having to pay for all these other pieces this is why AP people need to understand that. The on bundling of different servicer is in the long term is not good for you as a consumer when those services and of having to be priced appropriately. People end up paying more for on bundled services to get the same amount that they did previous. I just think the old model of cable television is broken. And why it has people travel people are more mobile today than they've ever been right so you eat you know you might wanna be able to watch the hockey playoffs. Rightwing Europe in New Hampshire but the place you're staying doesn't have that channel. Right or if you have Hulu what does that what does that what does that have to do with Netflix Netflix has no life program. Daughters talking but generally the the the people getting away from cable television that's part of the reason I think they want Internet based. Television as opposed to. Cable television which is only available in your home. It is but that their service is that you can use to forward that on is our area that there's been stuff was that sling TV's been around for it and that's been around for ten years now that's not Qaeda. This box doesn't last time a check and lets slingbox was I would beat. Surprised they were impeached me you know you don't have any chance nowadays if you don't have any HD that's an HD it is and a guy who I didn't used to when I was taken by using. Hey let's switch gears a little bit and talked about how well the average American is doing in terms of saving for retirement mrs. According to Transamerica center for retirement services almost two. Out of every three American workers and B 65%. Believe even if they continue to work until age 65. That they will not accumulate enough savings to meet their retirement needs. So what that means Jack. Is. If you're gonna have enough at 65. To meet your retirement needs. You're planning to work into your 67 till you're 68 here 707275. Like how long do you work a lot of people that I I've got people out doing their seventy's lot of black people are gonna be working in perpetuity. I think is is the answer. Our poll question today is. Do you or would you have enough money saved for retirement. At age 65. You can participate in our poll by going to financial exchange showed a com if you would like to text that's on that topic. Our text number is 63566. Remembered what my first name first aid aid the body of the text Barry. If you have a comment to make it do you or would you has some you may be over 65. Have enough money saved for retirement. By the age 65 right now. Only 45%. Of our audience saying that they would have enough money saved about a little surprised but that is usually when we do these types of studies. Our audience is considerably more affluent than the general pop. Yet I think it's again it it just speaks to how challenging it can be. It is still end up with enough saved it and especially if you have kids and you need for college recently and things like that. You know it's it's it's a challenge to be able to get out at age 65 for a lot of folks now it it really is a mean. You'll get median incomes in this country you figure half the country as a households making less than 60000 dollars a year. In trying to save money on the you know salary of 24000 dollars a year and 35000 a year. I think there's a lot of people who are just kind of cut off to begin wondering. There's a bunch of people though who do make a 150 grand a year yeah it's been every penny that they make an isolated and don't save anything and that's that's I think the one that where you know it's a solvable problem easily its spending problem not an income problem the spending problems are easier to solve. Earning season is in full swing and in the next segment will be joined by Adam Johnson from bullseye brief to talk about. How the earnings have been going so far we had a lot of banks report earnings we'll get into it next on the financial exchange. Like us on FaceBook and follow us on Twitter pax TFE show you. Good to you every were haven't talked in a little while now. Asia well you know get my head down trying to make my subscribers money and so far enough but I played all the while that he. It's it's sometimes hard to sleep at night so I had been yeah I know you had to do the bank added that. Yet been challenging quarter I know let's talk about earning season now that we're into it for the first quarter. It seems like we're off to a pretty pretty strong start at this point that. Blockbuster star I think but I hit bid mr. bolt here in New York for sometime Tuesday I got. In this ball on the I have been incredibly evil should you know all year do we diverting their appointment or incredibly powerful product. And even occur or be bubble. This journey he's about bar is exceeding their expectations cannot tell you why. I'm about to see you actually think the actual number 51 of 500 companies yet the 500 have reported that spark. And earnings growth. At this point based on the report is tracking up 30%. Now I think it actually get a comment ultimately want all by a report. You know 30% a lot of that coming from the bank which bodes very well at bat better. That top line sales growth is coming up and we haven't seen you know that kind of top line growth. Shut in in several years we need to go back like you know. Cash for clunkers let it all that artificial stimulus package you know keep outlet and you know also I'd I'd love what I'm getting it here. At a morning things that you sometimes see in a growth cycle like this is that earnings down the road may compress because of higher wages that companies need to pay. If you have shortages of capable employees is that something that Larry let you know if that is that something that you could see happening later this year because I've talked to a whole bunch of different business owners and across different industries they all pretty much say look we can't find enough people to do all the work we. Yet about high time that the average American workers or make him more. Wage growth has been tracking up two point 7%. Now which is okay but honestly given the strength in the economy should really be above read that. And I think there are a couple of reasons why that happening and structural. On number one we have something like 101000 baby boomers retiring every day they're being replaced with. You know millennial who frankly caught a lot less and a lot of the millennial don't necessarily want it W two you know they want. The independents that you know being able to work for several different where they wanna get locked in. But that also means that they're probably. Making less than. Then you know. The people they're replacing that number one and he got. Technology. That it is streamlining so many different operations and you know keep reading about. All the retail jobs being evaporated by e-commerce just an example war robot. Doing the job of sorters at FedEx or. Welders at GM so there's some structural reasons why I think. That's happening but. You know it is quite capture their content what do you wish you can't hire people you got anymore I hope you're okay. You pay them more or workers who work hard is that there and make money and that eating. Adam you mentioned financials off the top is a sector that's reporting good earnings so far this quarter any other areas of the economy that you've got a spotlight on. Well I think actually that we are going to see a tremendous acceleration in spending by consumers. That's not gonna happen. Probably until the middle of the summer and people are spending money abdication. And that is due largely at you know the average American who by the way are about fifty oh dollars. Got a raise of about 5%. That's real money and that starts to percolate. Through the economy I think you're gonna be. Tremendous benefit to leisure. Sectors to booted restaurant spektr's you know people want a great that they don't really wanna go out by a letter. You know that's what we're finding if you look at the data on consumer prices and money low and how consumers are spending their money. It's our experiences so you know I think that's where you're gonna be a need to look at that you know what subscriber adds that degree gap like what kind of cliche Egypt which Brady apple. Adam does the potential uncertainty when it comes to the implementation of any tariffs give you any pause with regards to companies and their expansion plans going forward. No and I know that you know. People they were able to call a library now would be like not technically but. Honestly I tell you what I think is going on your show and I may give you ample back. I think that the cold air. Thing is about negotiation. Look at what happened when there's open first erupted over steel and aluminum and the bit about Chinese he'll actually. Is not an ever way it only one and a half percent the Chinese he'll ever by the way you let up this was about. Gaining an upper hand in bat in appreciation with China and Mexico by the way operable one quarter is the only court. And the very next day after the sanctions were quote unquote you're owed. What we bowed out was that. Canada and Mexico going to be exempted it enacted could stay with regard to what's happening right now China. And and that get hurt at going back and forth well. If these sanctions ever you'd take it back it won't be until you. Because they are they quote unquote. Quiet period between now and then. That's really not so quiet when it turns out at all lobbyists and approach the government they well what about what about bad and Corey are out. And I really just they is that all about negotiations which is why the market now is starting to kind of treat this step at a green belt when that what. What announcement you know sanctions and trade wars. Burst were. Getting a call about a month ago yeah you know we wake up 1 morning be downstairs. Under. You know we're about it back or bigger. Good Adams thank you for the time we appreciate it and we'll catch up soon. Sounds great actually mean ramble I know what I don't. Eat all I really appreciate. Everything we wanted Adam thanks again for coming on that is Adam Johnson from bull's eye briefed dot com talking about the recent earnings season and the state of the US on one wage pressure is a real issue that we need to explores a matter of fact in the next segment. Are we talking about jetBlue. And Deere company is heavily dependent on people. Right they've got 5000 flight attendants they've got hundreds of second biggest expense they have behind fuel reality hundreds of a pilots if not thousands of pilots. Think about the cost of their life here at the the planes that the purchase all the fuel costs that they purchased the people are a big contributing. Expense to the operation of jetBlue. In the air flight attendants have voted to unionize or take a look at just how much money they made on an hourly an annual basis. When we return to the financial exchange it's very. Chuck and talk. Time now for Wall Street watch a look at the market's performance so far today thanks to Darian jug right here on the financial exchange radio network. Mike Armstrong joins us now for Wall Street watching Mike we get a couple companies move in opposite directions here let's start with Morgan Stanley on the good side of things. We have more it's a report quarterly profit dollar 45 per share well yes it's now the water revenue came in above forecast. I'd I think this is point the best current reports in involve the big banks they seem to be really really excuse this volatility. In jeopardy ought to wrap it based on the Q what volatility we've seen. Stock is up that's where it's been bounced around a little bit but right now it's up about one point 85% of. On the other hand we've got IBM which is off nearly 7% that down to a 149 dollars a share the stock it's pretty much the exact same place it was back in October 2010. To eight years full of no growth for IBM investors. What's going wrong there. Yeah you know we just follows. The last quarter seventeen when it finally reverse the trend that it had five straight years. Lower revenue order after wars in her purse that trying to achieve force seventeen. Things are looking a little bit better but it really started it looked like that was a bit. Just a one time sort of thing and a lot of bay print customers that jury. We do and they year. They're key to growth which is the artificial intelligence area is not seem to be producing the type of revenues are expected so. Stuck under pressure. This morning it down. Nearly 7% eleven dollars on the earnings support they had it and clearly a lot of people learn about whether or not idea turn things around it shows that they haven't had the badge on our fish without. Good thank you Mike that is Mike Armstrong with Wall Street watch I have to wonder how much longer Ginny Rometty hats and yeah when does she show it she start there are trying to think tennis has six years ago now somewhere like it's employed the boards got to say hey Jenny. You know you're not get it done. Yes she started there as CEO in January 2012 so it's been six years now bank and AM I think it's. If if I were sitting on that board at least we have a conversations as saying hey look you've got one more year here's the measurable you gotta hit and if you don't hit him. We got to move on. Pretty guys rate jetBlue as an airline I I don't care for them and a curiously they keep your. Make enough flight choice in your goal and save go to Vegas he had a choice of jetBlue or American and United Continental. When he. I fly jetBlue probably 95% of the time missed them. Yes the first flight air filter to out book a flight because when you. Out of all the extras that other airlines charge you for now. A they end up being cheaper in a lot of cases it tangible discuss other airlines the charge for Wi-Fi at the charge you for TV they'll charge you when they don't charge for Wi-Fi. No deal was free Wi-Fi. So you know you go through all that and you know a damn good they've got a ton of points out of Boston it's one of the major hopes he can get just about anywhere in the country from there. And generally I'm pretty good experience than they've they've treated me well and I haven't really had any problems that. They have one of the lowest ball operates some of the least one of the Los chance of getting bumped awful voice out of any airlines so I can fly and preferred I like American but that's besides the point. JetBlue flight attendants yesterday voted to unionize when I was shocked about here. You know anything about jetBlue they've got 5000 flight attendants across the country. Thirteen hundred of their flight attendants are out of Boston it's Boston is one of bears three major hubs on the East Coast the other being JFK and I believe Fort Lauderdale in or somewhere down that southeast Florida range. But yeah Boston is a major hub for and it's going to continue to be there's a lot of rumor. Circulating that the gonna start flying to Europe in the next couple years. With Boston and JFK being the two main police have been flying out of the out so there's there's a lot of chatter on it it's unconfirmed at this point. But a lot of buzz that probably by 20/20 that's something that they're gonna look to get into. Why did they vote to unionize unity when you look at these are. Usually women. I think probably what would you guess 90% of flight attendants are women and offset high anymore. Total average pay of 51000 dollars a year and I'm going from a glass door gleaning my information from the last or. But they you gotta figure. They're gonna have to if you're flight attendant. For jetBlue and you voted to unionize. You're probably gonna be working somewhere between two and four hours a month to pay your union. You are then in the theory would be that hey it's still going to result in higher wages that offset that are higher benefits more stable benefits by the way that most recent data that I found was from 2012. And about 24%. Of flight attendants are men as of 2012 so it's about 75 point five cut at this point if you back to eighties it was about a ninety tents Oca that says that's where am. That's right it. There's a woman killed yesterday. Yet into mid air it's Southwest Airlines. Accident. In this had to do with the malfunction. Of one of the blades inside. Yet they they experience what's called an uncontained engine failure and contain meaning that the Baylor the engine was not kept inside the engine casing. And apparently what happened on this was a piece of debris from the engine. Struck the window or multiple windows potentially. And in this case partially ended up. Pulling up a woman out of the plane at 32000. It's incredibly rare to have these uncontained engine failure to begin with there's maybe one or two years that you've gets. Generally they caused damage to the plane but no major injuries or anything like that. But this one unfortunately the first death on a US carrier since 2009. Now in about nine years in a you know very sad story you're pretty say pretty safe. Fly in on a plane. You part probably safer at a place they are only ID on the Mass Pike. I mean again this is the first time in nine years that you've had a death as a result of a US airline malfunction. Will he added 40000 highway deaths it could be being on a plane is literally the safest place you can be. That did there's nowhere is safe. I'd vote in my bedroom you're pretty statement that noted you know one of the you know how many people die each year for furniture tipping over on the hundreds. Now it's primarily kids who end up pulling it over on themselves but I just buried on the furniture took over as a major problem it's a major problem and that's it I'm not making this so it wouldn't really. I granddaughters were done born we actually had to fasten. The you're right term capital to the wall beacons and they have one client ever do it. This is according to one of data from real people of useless information according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission every seventeen minutes a piece of furniture tips over causing injury in the US is usually children it's per dollar only children now it's it's it's really sent to decline. And first all I'm gonna tell you that there's many different kinds of irrevocable trust is not just one mine call and so that's what makes it hard to Germany. Let me at least try to. Bring it back down to what I think are asking me generally. Irrevocable trust their talking about are these Medicaid income only tourists know the ones are we try to protect assets from the nursing home. So if I was to compared that kind of and your vocal trust with a revoke of trust it and there really biggest differences. The irrevocable trust protector ass as an arsenal the Reebok of trust never will so why would somebody use a revolt global trusts. Over and durable tracks there are times where people have either enough long term care insurance or plot meanwhile or lots of wealth and and their self insured because they can pay their own way through the nursing home so how much money you have to have me you'd like we define rich force I don't ask. 1000005 nines. Pointer by turner Andrew talk about PPL corporation first question what they do. Billy really like that keep LA are a regular utility that little bit different venue are. You're really domestic utility of their operations though than ninety king and kingdom and in the US. Now I see that this is a stock pick in the last year's gone for about forty dollars a share down to about 28. It's not typically what you expect to see from a regulated utility what what's been the cause of their struggles over the last year. No absolutely not you you've had a generally facilities but in addition to that. If you know an awful sold off or concerns. On the exploded cupid. That unite kingdom the UK political and pirate hat is increasingly putting pressure on the region's real core conditions. Really if you have more more concerns are on higher electricity prices. And visit that really adds that both consumers and politician. Another look at it and turn it up on the can countries autistic suppliers it which keep yelled does not now. The Riley do adjust our long term lower rates but yeah lower would you believe the market but here are overly pessimistic. About the long term profitability. What the unit. The and meanwhile you have a utility that we think can grow back to 6% blacks by years but a very healthy sixteen billion dollar capital plan. Terry had 20% discount territory by car crusher. And it usually hears yielding 6% and it does. Well above utility ever to earn half percent well and other risk with the European trip here with higher I think if you. Is that dividend sustainable for them at this point. We delivered in a sustainable what you probably not can get it a lot of dip in growth in the next couple years. So enter effort I yield furlough to lower coast in general received Billy as co forest 6% we think deeply guilty on that 4%. Is there any bear case for this where things don't go as well as you anticipate what are the biggest risk simply the ones that you mentioned with those UK operations. Yes that's the only UK if it returns are lower than we expect. And that are related to mark punitive in the UK and then we would expect and I have been with with UK in the bracket news you know that little bit have an unknown risks there kind of really what happened then next you're you're two of which. The deal would have exploded and that you know leader typical domestic utility when. Good Andrew thank you for the time day. It Andrew bid shop from morning start talking about PPL corporation ticker on them by the way is PPL not a bad place let's let's just think about this logically. You've got. Some free cash debts around and he said well I'll buy a 100000 dollars worth the PPL. And I know gonna get a dividend he is thinking describe the dividend is being reasonably secure and not not likely to see any bumps but they felt it was stable at five point 8% yup right and that's a tax efficient by point 8% so you don't pay. Real high tax rates on that dividend and you go out 1020 years is the stock going to be higher or lower Edward is now. I would think could be higher yet get some short term downside potential here but if years sitting there saying gee is this something that could make sense as a long term holding everything up for the old guy right who's looking for some income. Right you eat you have to take money out of you're hiring a you're seventy years old. You don't wanna buy a a growth stock because you don't want to volatility associated with a and you need some income or does this has some volatility though doesn't keep in mind just because of those European operations and concerns there that there's some volatility here's this is knocking a move. You're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world and stay informed and today about the economic and market trends plus breaking business news every day. The initial exchange with the very Armstrong and chunks. Two big stories to begin this hour of our program the first one has to do. The trump administration's. Attempt to cancel. Student loan debt for disabled veterans. And then secondly. China is loosening up their rules as it relates to foreign automobile sales. It might be a potential peace offering to the United States hi everybody it's Berrian truck with you here on Wednesday morning. And son of a gun I I would just have assume chuck that. If you're a veteran if you're a military veteran in you served in Iraq or Afghanistan and you came back in you were wounded and disabled. That. Your student loans would be canceled another would you wouldn't have to pay them back turns out that's not the case at. All no not not the case and and I think that there's a very strong case to be made that the this is a this is a move that I think is a long overnight you guys at this who would vote against them you know it something where you and voluntarily give up. Years of your life and then the ability to earning a living afterwards if you are in fact disabled as a result of your service. I don't think that anyone in their right mind would be able to make you case saying oh yeah by the way you have to pay back those student loans that you took. Well Betsy Devoe also is working with the department of veteran affairs are yet to come up with the money and that's the you know that's always the issues of the duties I have to say okay it's a great idea and conceptually I think. Everybody would agree you serve your country come back you're disabled nation aft payback listed wolves be stuffed up Obama and it. In one of the big things on this that I think they do need to workers traditionally when a debt is forgiven and ends accounts counting as taxable income right rate you'd you don't wanna see you know you don't want someone a disabled vet to then have to pay 20000 dollars in taxes on 60000 dollars a given all straight now he ushered. Well hopefully they'll work through that I'm going to in general re setting our poll question if you will. I came across the study and it indicates that almost two out of every three American workers. 65% of us. Will not have enough money to retire at age 65 they think graft continue to work beyond age 65. Because they will not have accumulated enough savings. In order to. Meet the air retirement needs. So our poll question today is do you our audience would you have enough money saved. In order to be able to retire by age 65 now maybe you're over 65 and last question. When you turned 65 did you have a seat and it's a goal with the year over 65 or under 65. And Heidi participate in the poll is good or web site financial exchange show dot com or you can text us. Our text number is 63566. We did get an instinct next 603 rights. Area I think government course to having enough money in my four would cater retire at 65. But how do I know would you know this and that's a very valid question track if you're forty years old. And let's say you're forty years old and yet 250000. Dollar senior forward Cain got a good job in yours say even money in that 401K every year. How do you know how much money is and it. It is something that I think a lot of people struggle with. To you know kind of figure out okay MI on. The right path is people say OK you know you need twenty times your what you need in a given year to retire and so say okay. If I earned fifty grand a year and then I need a million dollars at age 65 and or to have twenty times okay. I know kind of what I should have. At that point. I think the bigger question that he poured into his OK any twenty X my savings at age 65. What do whiny kind of down the road and or to get there. General guidelines I have some ages that I've pulled up just that kind of seem kicked around previously. At age forty. You want somewhere around ten times your annual income saved to be able to be on track OK so let's do the math on age forty in your make in 85000 dollars a year that means you stand eat 150000. While okay how many people have and that's that's if you're looking for retirement can at age sixty plus not this early sixty lives so if you look at sixty at. At at forty could probably be somewhere in the range of five X then took the if you make 85000 a year did you want somewhere around 400000 saved at age forty don't. Most people expect to work to 65 now I mean I always most I would expect to work longer yet I ate my expectation was sixty cents. May use them when my wife and I would crunched numbers we tea were probably have to work two or 67. What is your generation. Because that's their full retirement age for our generation thinks their pearly knock going to retire you know we we think we have to pay for all of you artisans yeah we thank you. We think in our student loans are welcome read the we we we we appreciate your patronage. The poll results so far 51% of you seem to think you will have enough money saved by age 65 or maybe you already retired and you had enough at 65. Where is 48% of you think no I need not gonna have enough they need 65 again the poll question can be answered it financial exchange showed dot com. What do you make about the stories in all places to catch it. New York Times suggesting. That China is backing off on their automobile rules which could allow lots to sell more cars in China. Could be a big benefit of pink to Tesla. It could be end effectively what the Chinese authorities came out and said is that in the next five years. They are going to begin easing rules that have required carmakers. Two previously partner with a local company in China in order to begin building a factory over there and so. This is a potentially huge opportunity. If indeed it ends up coming to parishioners say if indeed ends up coming to fruition because we've seen China try to play around with. Market liberalization before and in kind of going towards more market based measures and away from government control and and sometimes it's okay. One step forward and then twelve steps back you know it as they kind of go about the actual implementation Gizo. Are starting to recognize just how big and powerful their own economy news is that you know twenty years ago we would trade with the Chinese. And and I remember this like it was yesterday back in the eighties China was in emerging market to be the V were. You know wages were fifty cents an hour back in 1984 in the news is it. You know it was literally. Like a Third World country now China in many ways is as advanced as Americans decide. So do they recognize. We'll keep in mind China has three times the number of people that the United States do and instill it produces about 65%. Of our overall production. Yeah but it being near deer Sauna and how capita basis it's not even corpse it may not be. But you look at their growth rate what they groin six and a half 7% a year. And we're going to leave the numbers were were grown and maybe 22 and a half percent a year yet if if you believe the number 80 if if China is the if if they're not as big as the house. Are they number two yes now that they are and fairly significant I'd like you look at them compared to Great Britain. Or France or Italy I mean their their big economy China has designs on making the next ten years effectively. A ship from the unit poll world that we've been in since the old Soviet Union to something where they are the counterbalance to the US in world affairs that's what is dominant force. Right I ate at. Again I'd I don't think that that's realistic to say the US simply disappears in the next not a disappears but the China wants to be on a level playing field that's an egg they wanna be on a level playing field need to trade fair. Well yes and they know they acknowledged as a starting to get this to me I'm in reading this especially in reading it in the New York Times that tells me that. The Chinese are recognizing. Yeah we we we need to. Play ball. Talk is cheap at times been talking about little you know I trust of India. I've seen China for the last twenty years saying we're going to move to a more market based economy and they happen I don't trust them either I don't get it don't get your but I trust the more than I trust the Russians. Because. You know Russia's economy Tucker that you're something you pride in. You know Italy has a bigger economy than Russia. And South Korea. It'll South Korea just to Italy I was a possible see you think about screwed up European countries right. You think of Italy right now. You don't think of Italy is screwed up market screwed up on Italy's economic problems for twenty years and the it's beautiful now. That great pasta. So right now it doesn't mean it may apply economic power could be balls to you know my point eight I do little pork in there the fat. When I saw about does that juice you compare the Chinese economy to the Russian economy or the Italian economy the French economy. China is the power of the CBO. And in the thing that is interesting is. Any economist that grown up in the last twenty years. Has had to deal with a multi polar world is all the Soviet Union we've been dealing purely with pretty much the US to a certain extent EU but not quite the same way. You now have to deal with a multi polar world and it's going to be something that's I think fascinating to watch it and as you know effectively the countries in the middle. Cannot pick sides again for the first time in awhile. Do you see that Aetna. Is adding 250. Jobs in Wellesley now they're you remember is being acquired by CVS. Who's based in. Rhode Island but their operating it this is a big operation that they're moving to Wellesley Massachusetts. Yet again be renovating 80000 on new square feet to 93 Wooster street where they currently leased about 171000 square feet so expanding the space by about 400%. Jobs to proxies or consumer health to get the visa can be good jobs these are going to be well paying jobs. And so again 250. Heading into the Wellesley area. And obviously. Even though. And it isn't moving its headquarters in Boston it's clear that they do want a presence here I think just because of the amount of health care spending and and and really healthcare decisions then coming out. Of the Boston here think the any tax breaks. Doesn't sort of on this jobs and indeed need to do what you expected on something like that. You and expected for something that epic that small that scale I have an idea. News on here man idea Calvin Johnson patriots. Diamonds a Johnny into states that could happen he said he's played in these Easter on the ball that Johnny's had a couple touchdowns it's like football games that I've been reading about death which she didn't pass by the way he ran them of is that right now. Joke and let's not digress a DSC puke or raskin and as for saying I changed I digress puke or rats. Like EP that the game I've never heard of that later on the news or use and actually it's kind of amazing he's been here for what eight years Nolan said that. I know it's let me workable at a remarkable what else like that nobody else like to twelve grown used to rent because he's good he's facts. Eat that he lost the game yet it thirty shots on. But he's an average goal I think he striving to be above that or if it via on his best day he might be hampered some better than I am. Oh game ski no pants. Anyway at the moving these jobs to Wellesley which is good news. My dad might suggestion would be big tax breaks for corporations at the state level illegal. We. I think it'll ever happen. But a good idea being a member years ago American corporations used to be of the go to South America and Africa. And bribe officials and made that illegal the federal level remember that. Yes. Why not what's the difference between. Bribing a local official in Sudan. Verses taking a tax break from Charlie Baker. Love is there a level playing there is a difference between a bride and a tax break to say yes with the what is the difference or bribe is giving money to a government official. Up to 88 tax for you out is money going to a company now. So important that direction is following differently than it is slow differently. Again I I I don't see you cannot. No idea that you say his you think about all these companies like people of Connecticut are still. Mad as hell about all these companies moving out yet and a lot of the moved out because of right you call it tax breaks I caught bribery right in the big potato potato but what's the difference between a tax break and abroad. And I'm I'm missing something here and into Tuesday it's a payment B a it's a payment being made from the government to corporation vs a bribe is. Payment made from a gore corporation to a government saying I don't see the difference anyway. Than ever where you like your whole answer as to say they are now still saving so it is still Qaeda. Watching the market. This is a world that the primary tool that's what I use now because it's easiest got a pretty good app a truly is an 01 noon. What do you make you know as those in the roasted rates in terms of selling houses I didn't like it. I'm not a core competency. Now mentally in the end and when someone whose core competency is not flipping homes gets into flipping homes and sign that the market may be peaking water off their flipping I think that they they were gonna be turned him over within ninety days couple. Well that's what it's that's that's what I gather at least maybe a I'd read it wrong and I dare I it sounds to me from what I've for I think you're gonna get into competition with realtors. I don't it's and Arizona they're doing. There they're competing with realtors and right now realtors spend a lot of money on so. Yes as usual so zillow said that in Phoenix and here's why may mirrors also the city gonna do this in Phoenix and Las Vegas. Little bit of a red flag. They said that they were going to team up with brokerage there'd offer sellers money for their homes and then if the sellers except Brazil make repairs and then -- list them on their own marketplace. That they. I just I do I don't love it. Well the reason I bring up real estate. Inventory levels talker and I'm sorry to report this on your behalf they're not good. Well the they have fallen now. For 37. Months or Guerrero whittling did you buy your place who's in about a year ago June of last year's when we closed so even you know like you you you were buying a house in a very tough market now you had the benefit you were selling condos so at least you had some. Skin in the game yet has an equity in the roasted market. But for 37 how do you think about that Tucker. For more than three years in a row. The inventory that guy like you have to choose from has continued to decline and there is no indication at least for my purview there's no indication. That inventory levels are about to increase because I looked it permits us to construction a that there's nothing he's earning UC that tells you qualities to be a ton of the new in the. During the all the instructions happening is still one late UE so this momentary dip in multifamily construction has come right back up what the numbers we got yesterday. Word be a better than expected all the growth was on the multifamily side now. You know so it's it's it's tough right now what you see is that last year the median US home took just 81 days to sell last year. And that's ninety's faster than in 2016 that's cross the entire country I'm sure if you look at how markets in the northeast. It's a lot quicker than that out imagine 4550 days. I don't know hey hey I don't know like I've had my house on the market now for a couple weeks and no no no offers naval one not even more than. He's got it's it's like Fischler bananas and they wanna buy amounts chair on a good idea I get enough house without enough house. On house. Unaffiliated I folks it's very Armstrong in am joined today by estate planning attorney Todd lots ski with your legal exchange quick tip of the day were talking today. About the differences between revoke mobile and irrevocable trusts. Todd what is the biggest difference between re global and irrevocable trusts probably the most commonly asked question ever. Probably is that. And first all I'm gonna tell you that there's many different kinds of irrevocable trust has not just one mine call and so that's what makes it hard to Germany would be at least try to. Bring it back down to what I think are asking me generally. Irrevocable trust their talking about are these Medicaid income only tourists know the ones are we try to protect assets from the nursing home. So if I was to compare that kind of and your vocal trust with a revoke of trust them. The really biggest differences. The irrevocable trust what protector acids from the national. The Reebok aboard trust never will so why would somebody user revolt global trust. Over and durable trucks there are times where people have either enough long term care insurance or what did well or lots of wealth and end their self insured because they can pay their own way through the nursing home so how much money you have to have me if you like we define rich force I don't that 10000059. With the estate tax laws as high as they've the exemptions have gone as high as they are saying you know 34 million dollars or less you can probably still going to be considering in your vocal trust if you're over 860. The estate planning expert at Cushing and Dolan have written a brand new guide. They'll answer the most common questions you have regarding revolt Kubel and irrevocable trusts. It needs 75 his resting place is located in Hartford's cedar hill Surma cemetery. And you know Hartford used to be the richest city in the country back in the late eighteen hundreds. I did know that the winner on this question was dot firms August and dot takes on a fifty dollar gift card to Dhabi owes. And with five locations in the Boston area including their newest one in Braintree. You can post your next special event at w.s visit W dot com for menu information and for. Reservation. All right so let's talk about how to snag. A rich guy or rich again. I do agree I've been out of the dating scene for quite some time you guys are younger and you have single friends what do they use is dating tips or did. Predominantly tender. Tinder Tinder tenders the if they're if they're looking for something a little more serious than might go to match dot com yeah that's been around for a lot of other than the kind of the big ones but that doesn't it to within days it Tinder and measures are those the two biggest ones and a simple balls pretty. Play a popular bubbles big these days them with humble I think that's why I heard the other I think that's when a female send out invitations. Yet the the girl has to make the first move there on that there's a bunch of good niche ones you mentioned farmers only get that's one that's out JD. There's also buying low which is four people who are wine lovers you can find someone who likes wine as much as you do so everyone. There is veggie date. Which allows people to find vegetarian laugh and I think that's network that's actually interest. There is tracked passions for Star Trek offers so you can find someone who loves Star Trek I'm not surprised but I was really so I don't know a single anymore there is. The atlas beer for people who are footballers. Anything John Gault okay. You're kidding no I'm not there is mouse mingle if you like Disney. I don't know what the average age of someone announcement this is really there's that's there is sea captain date if you want someone with a boat Africa. And the last one is for twenty singles which is four I you know marijuana offers to find large. So let's talk about this lead these elite dating because apparently there are a threat to. America's wealth gap problem. Don't know late so the theory here is that because. Rich people could find each other on these apps they're going to just marry other wealthy people which to me sounds like most of human history to begin listen you know I mean like you look at how pinot kings and queens would arrange marriages. They were trying to find a great stable boy for their wife you know they were like oh you need to find someone with the Lander you need to find someone with horses you know we'll we'll match up with the son of the king friends exactly you know they could sell more most wars ended up starting because of stuff like this so. I'd I certainly don't think it's going to put an end to it but. And I don't mean like if if this arms around back in gear the seventeen hundreds and should that be are being stored had all kinds trouble finds you of suitable. Marriages for their queen's so undoubtedly. Hey our poll question it today is do you or would you have enough money saved for retirement by age 6546. Point 9% if you say yes you will have enough. 53%. Say no it's still better than the average disease the according to Transamerica poll 65%. Of Americans are not gonna have enough money to retire Essex the better that we're still doing way better now but. Participate in the full by going to financial exchange showed dot com. Headline reads the dollar is sliding and that's great news for corporate America why wouldn't weakening US dollar the great news for corporate America. So if you look at what are weakening dollar does for companies primarily two things number one let's say that you run a business that manufactures in the US Boeing. But what as an example caterpillar capital the other one year OK three big ones that if Boeing says look with plays a hundred million dollars for you to buy. And they're trying to sell the plane to China if dollar goes down vs the Chinese currency it's cheaper for the Chinese to buy it in their own currency will hold on I thought when the Chinese bought. Boeing jets they had to buy them and the loan terms were in US currency but they have to convert to US currency debt convert some of their own ended doll sold more than if what if they can use less of their currency converted to dollars. It means it's easier for us to buy this plane to its good for exports okay. It also is good for companies. That and do business internationally from the perspective of if you are taking in foreign currency in any way shape breaking heat Islam foreign currency if you're taking in any foreign currency. It is worth more US dollars who drives a earnings per share when you reports OK so it's good for big corporations whose bad fork. It's bad for the person who buys a lot of imported goods from okay. So if you are buying is that part of the reason oil's up today is that throws going. A looking at a whole house DC royals at 681. Time in three years at. That's. Well that's good and bad does that too but that is UV don't feel great right now. No but if he doesn't prices are up twenty cents in the last month but if you own ExxonMobil saint them if you don't ExxonMobil field Chevron if you own BP says no object to a this is duo right now. Padilla that is a reason why oil has moved up in the last. Really last year as you've seen the dollar weakened by about 15% to about goal golds at thirteen 53 gold does seem to have the same relationship with the dog that used to. Know that there's been something weird happening gold markets the last couple years I don't know what it is just I don't understand gold nearly as well as I probably should I would think that American consumers would be losers. In a weak dollar if you are because imported good so. I mean think about what you bought rate. You just you just bought a house a year ago right how much your stuff but that house was important about. An hour trip Home Depot lot that's just me and oh yeah but it's so if you're if you're buying a lot of imported goods which most Americans are here it it makes things a little bit more expensive force that adds the concerns about inflation potentially pages the Fed after raise rates more quickly it gives the Fed a chance to the dollars weaker actually but. It doesn't necessarily make things cheaper for. The average American. Estate and asset protection plan can be overwhelming. And that's why you need to call Todd what's key partner with the law firm. Of Cushing in Dolan. Todd is an expert in elder law and taxation and he's been creating a state plans for folks like you for over thirty years. There are numerous types of trusts that are available.
