And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. My guess is you're tuned into a show like ours because you're trying to figure out. What caused the stock market to sell off on Monday what caused the selloff on Friday. How did the market go down 16100. Points at one point yesterday. Well it's if these are all great questions and all we can do is speculate. As to what the answers are hi everybody it's Berrian might with you here on a Tuesday and you know it's it would be unusual if people didn't have questions as to why the markets sold off I mean is it you had it. Tremendous sell off on Friday 600 points followed up within another sell off yesterday at one point Michael. Yesterday stocks the Dow was trading down sixty. Hundred points yeah they recovered a little bit and ended up down 1175. Points which as you look at just those raw numbers it sounds very varied. Just let the union 1175. Points historically that's huge number on a point based on point pays these days that's four and a half percent now not not a small move that it's not. Yeah a few years ago that would have been 1015%. Yet not enough to trigger any circuit breakers donated the did that this thing to consider. As you know the markets sold off to lose than usual and truck called this yesterday. Is in at 11 o'clock hour Tucker if you were call markets were actually. Pretty stable in I was pretty flat as our call it really was and in the 11 o'clock hour we thought all the sell off is over and then son of a gun and I was on a phone call. Around 3 o'clock outside what happened I was in the parking lot. Of my gym where it was getting ready to go in to the gym to work out. And I look at my phone and it's lighting up medium getting phone call after full cost of phone call. Tenet and then I'd take a look while these phone calls are coming am looking at stock market in the stock market is literally dropping a hundred points about every 1030 seconds yet. And and I understood what phone calls coming in English news channel five on the phone and say hey now we need you to get over here in and we do and doctors so right. Canceled by Jim. Session in and went over to channel five but. Is that the questions come up. Interest rates. By the potential rise in interest rates perhaps. Initially yeah there and I think that's a lot of what is tied to his people are saying it's finally catching up for the feds coming out and saying yeah were we looking at three but now maybe four inch strip rights in between eighteen and so having investors started to initially get spooked by that and then you know on top of that. The technical aspects of the stock market today are a lot different from there were thirty years ago read the amount of automated algorithms based trading that we have the markets today exacerbates these issues are united and the market was only down. Two or 3% and and a bunch triggers got hit man and automatic trade replaced ago sell those markets these different algorithms. Let's go back to the country's story for sure. Interest rates rose with the ten year treasury to run 3% yeah Mac close and did it do. Pushed through three is up around 3 AM new one on one side to the other but by the close of trading yesterday what's ironic. Is the ten year treasury was down to about 27 yeah guess so much money was coming out of stocks. And when he asked to go somewhere that -- ago went into treasuries. And when it when when you have that would bit money beating on treasuries especially the ten year. It caused interest rates to decline so. You know just the other day were talking about how mortgage rates are going up well actually yesterday mortgage rates went down. Right and me and the relation there area lot of people wonder what's the relation between the stock market and interest rates are don't seem as. Inherently tied as the bond market as right interest rates go up the bond market goes down and that's kind of the relationship. With stocks it's it's not as technical right it's. Well OK now I can go back that seat you know I can go to the bank now I can go buy a 4% CD for five years. Maybe I think about selling some my stocks now that I can do that. But. What point that happens you know what point people say well we have a series worth then and the treasury bonds worth that is. Not very clear. I was gonna say is going to be a long time before you buy and 4% says yeah you're an ideal for tenure seating. I think you might give the 3% CD next year you know if if interest rates go up three times but I don't they I think 4% is quite aways away. So interest rates that was part of what drove stocks lower yesterday the threat of higher interest rates. The other issue that you alluded to was program trading and and you know when you talk about program trading war computerized trading. So much money now Michael is going into exchange traded funds. And not in two professionally. Managed mutual funds rate and these exchange traded funds what happens here folks is. There's no person. That manages an exchange traded fund unless you have an advisor via a financial advisors they might be managing your shares and within. But the view these exchange traded funds. They get Brian Sell orders and they have to sell all 500 stocks in the S&P 500 so if a pension fund. Besides Gina markets down and we need some cash. And they decide to sell. Twenty million dollars worth of any TO. Like the spider that each yep been asked to sell twenty million dollar for the stock and almost 500 companies right and that. I think had a lot to do because the in you know thirty years ago. ETFs weren't around. No there is happening actively managed mutual fund Manger it's okay now need to act it's the end of the day now. And now need to failed twenty million dollars worth about sell orders and let me take a look at some stuff that performed the best over the last few days and I'll put out of those rugs that human you know like you mentioned an S&P 500 index yet you to sell off in stocks automatically throughout the day. I'd like to remind you that back in November we published a report in perhaps you've read it. And you talked about the opportunity or the likelihood. Of us receiving her having a stock market correction. Now turns out we are about two or three months early but if after time if it's tough to time the market but back in November. I had the feeling that stocks were overpriced now. Even with this pullback that we had. As of last night all we had done Michael was pulled back to where stocks were trading on December 8. Of last year ranked so. Yeah you you look at all the pain it's being felt and and undoubtedly you're looking your statements and you're saying yourself son of a gun. I'm not too happy about the date the drop in you. Well hold on your seats because. Now right now markets with the develop a 111 points and eleven points about half percent so making up some of that was down 600 points at 4 in the morning. Yeah I mean if you take a look just re at the peak on Friday January 26 that's where the market peaked at that started when. We're down about as of the close yesterday are down about 8% from now. Tucker we have a poll question today and everybody gets to play broker to. Yeah I'm pretty much. We did you the opportunity predict where the market's gonna finish our question is. Well market finished in negative territory today and you can go to financial change showed dock on the cashier. Financial exchange showed up about it it today is an important day now IE EEE one of the old school investors. That you may or may not have read and heard about this guy named bill O'Neil from investors business daily. And he taught me. Actually had to be twenty years ago and if you had three puppies. On. Heavy volume that was a very bullish indicator. And conversely if you had three down days in a role buckle under heavy volume that was a very bearish and now the statistics. Would suggest that you know about 25% of the time that's accurate information but. It's just today I'll be watching today I look at is a critical break point day for the markets if you finished today down. Even if your early down under 400 points today. On heavy volume yet I look at that as being bearish going for if you break in and if we have play. A day were weak finish in positive territory with a whole different story. It's old mistress anyway participate in the pole its financial exchange show. Dot com in order to participate next will be joined by Liz claims from the Fox Business Network. To get her take on what the market is doing and why that is next from the financial exchange radio network. Like us on FaceBook and follow us on Twitter acts TSE show you. Are strong here and I'm joined by estate planning attorney Todd Lipsky from the law firm Cushing and dole we're talking about motivation to create in a state plan here's one. How Todd can somebody. Ensure that an ex daughter in law or an ex son in law is not going to take. Half of my child's inheritance when I die in the event that they got a divorce you know I don't think I sit down at a client meeting. And this doesn't come. Rate duty do you bring it up Purdue the clients are. I think it's a combination of both but but once you mention it middle management that always think about after death while I know and when you mention it. They jump on. One might spell out here that lower divorce is so prevalent I guess that's the pro and here's the worry right. You guys you both you leave each of your children half a million dollars right. And then three years after you're gone they get a divorce. You're gonna lose half 500000 dollars on a good. And so what we try to do is inside the trust again another family reason to do estate planning a non tax reason to do and they plan. And and we inside the trust we create its shares for the children and we have independent trust me if you will making one decision only. And that is in their sole discretion to make a distribution to that your short of the children. And that sole discretion provides all the creditor protection that they need from the divorce in the future. I don't mean to lecture but it's a good idea it created state plane and keep your assets in the blood line. The financial exchange with Barry and chuck is live on FaceBook and YouTube every morning beginning at ten this is the financial exchange radio network. On a day like today you want to understand what is moving the markets we've recruited Liz claim from the Fox Business Network. To help us better understand. Why these markets are so darn volatile the last few days I was welcomed the show are. Well boy. With what pat what do you make of skewed to really big down days on heavy volume. And then moments ago we are positive territory and now sentiment and we've slipped back in a negative territory. We are into it and 900. Point swing. So far today that was a out I got that stat about ten minutes ago that the market opened 45 minutes. As as my mother who with the royal academy trajectory and actors is to it if return my table why is that what that is don't try to Apatow. He's so. It all happened as much as you try and want to do not get the answer right right now maybe went in the earlier in the year. I already heard wait too many under. On our air on everybody's Ayers stay. Healthy court this is serious this is the real problem. We don't know yet we do you know how to they expected the stock market had not pulled back by even just a 5% move. You know but until yesterday out of port to force the action millions usual to have a very orderly and expanded line. Month after month after Bob Nelson point milestone of 2000 miles down and not see any air. Come out of that the and of their sport would start to see is a panic out that off. Their firm and now. A pile of cash that's sort of dry powdered it has items are stocks that were just too expensive. Got cheaper he got a lot of goods sale right problem is that there may get marked down even more. And this morning what we opened we were downtown them that we expect that everybody got excited to see here come the buyer yeah. Really cut that isn't exactly what happened. Nine minutes ago when we started to go down our top 58 points for the health and killing a twenty point game it is an extremely upset. That is not too. Our retail investor bury those things or even that died at a mutual fund is as. Electronic trading and also about Alco out of respect treat later these boys. Women out there who've put in the program tree Kate when steepest stock at a certain level one brought to certain level that little. Want to lose look at swapped one of the corruption and. All right now lives in in January we saw record equity inflows hundred over a hundred billion dollar never seen that before. Yeah eight I was gonna is that a sign of a top and is that the little guy getting in because they're afraid of missing out. It's funny you know went when everybody's selling it's not necessarily the little guys selling that when everybody's getting in that is not what this side of the top because. People who don't accurately understand the thought process of the market if there is one voting mechanism doesn't Wear. They tend to it and her. Just as the big money is interpret is part about it. We've rice right so you're a percent correct on that fairy that would use C a hundred. All that money a billion or whatever a lot of money I thought that stat last week and then Merrill Lynch let's give them props spec America Merrill Lynch said. I insist this is where. Too many people are rushing and two Lleyton. And they'll steps were taken up before everything's gone and then there will be stampede toward the end of. Liz let me ask you about the three day in a rule the three day in a row rule I learned this from Bill O'Neill back in probably 8788. And that is you know you get three days in a row either up or down on heavy volume. You know if it's three days in a row up on heavy volume that's a very bullish indicator. But if we get a third day in a row today let's say the markets down for 500 points today in the volume again is heavy like it was yesterday. Do you buy into that whole theory about that being a very negative long term indicator. No one here's why. Because these historical norms that we used to ascribe to what it came to Wall Street. You know felon man go way sure. That is all. History book chapters that need to. Start to be read it reconfirmed amber them because they Avery is that every once in awhile. But look what happened between day. And as amber yeah we had we hit. 1004000. Point out appointment and it 23000 by the way the Dow right now between 4000 to sixty war. So we're below 26000 which of course we hit it this past month and it's fascinating to watch but I really don't. I can't leave on the local time predictor of. More it would cut it up on a bike you know they're always saying it would. Looking back is not necessarily be a clearest picture look import. That's at the young bucks in the office tells me too that's on the idea or not they give me a hard time when I bring these alerts that tonight. Just shelved for a minute I mean by it it just talking to somebody yesterday who has been waiting for this kind of thing just retail investor who's. Mom had had them custom open and I ended and keep body and when the Dow was down 400 point yesterday. And at all. It would get a fifteen. But it was down 15104. It was during our show at 3 PM eastern deployment step out for a bout. 32. And it was touch that hot stove and that a retreat it pops up. But we still went to that. Point. Who live out a lot of the bond guys you know you've got friends that are bond traders and and they they're really good looking for bearish indicators. And I was talking nobody minds are famous investor you know multi billion dollar hedge fund investor. And I asked they said OK if he loves to see stocks go and Rick is that there they're making money on days like that but I said Toma said Warren would. What are the leading economic indicators that tell you that the economy is getting weaker and everything I look at Liz. Tells me that the economy. Is getting stronger by I was seeded David it's getting stronger by the hour wages are growing up. You're you're seeing. Housing demand is in on the increased car companies look at General Motors this morning I mean just seems like. Goods orders. But again the stock market is in the economy. So when the economy was doing very very terribly in and then just try to find its footing 2000 time alone with the market. Throughout the next two I would expect that in years. The stock market just 200%. To peoples that yes but the economy's so terrible. But that it didn't like what President Obama was doing and you. You voted with your wallets by not getting into the stock market lost the right. Got a separate what you think economy's doing the markets the market. Ahead of the economy finally passed out. And the outlook. We both found a task that's. You know we have seen. We opened. Correction territory corrections to those you don't know it pulled out of 10% from the time. So we we did that power out of that amount that the Dow was down 22. It's all over the place today as does their sport the economy you work or it is definitely on purposely. But the air a bit if he tried like that that the markets Europe the markets Ari rational. Entity of sorts where emperor from Bork fight and the market but they're person are. You know the doubt stinks that it got past without not thinking right there and when you watch a flock of birds. And not only for no apparent reason. They turn different direction yup. What was that was that a tiny book that's the one of them and they all went the other direction now there's no question now times. What it started early last week was that interest rates he'd get caught up in their heels for the bobcats are saying 888 look at best we two point 8% while malware or a boat that. While long shot to date come down a battle what what's excused today. Right they'll think of something. Liz we have to get out but thank you very much will be watching today 3 o'clock right. At 3 o'clock am going to be blood from the York stock exchange floor spill will have every moment tick bite taken as I always stay. Lulu lemon CEO resigned this morning with no real disclosure from the company as to what's going on being here and behavioral conduct issue. You could see this being quite bad news for the issues for the company could see it actually. Depending on how quickly the board acted in what the issue was this could actually be good news for the company they're seen as the team being very pro active with these sorts of issues. Where's the companies have been very very reactive slowed to deal with them so we'll see what comes in this. He gets any better luck getting on to those financial ups that you Mikey said he couldn't get on the fidelity I am now on to fidelity and I just successfully placed a mutual fund trade so that Matt has apparently gone through but yeah a lot of these upsets having management issues. You know the stock market volatility. Is understandably. Making many investors nervous about their portfolios particularly in my experience particularly. You know I don't know if you were investing back in 1987 but I was hand in 1987. You wanna talk about volatility. In would you say the market is down yesterday 4%. For four and a half percent but. In 1987. In October of 1987. You were still in diapers. The market was down 22%. In one day that would be the equivalent. 5000 point drop in today's market. Now since that. They have installed something called circuit breakers to prevent that type of activity from occurring cancer. But what are those circuit breakers at what point in how close were we yesterday. To hitting some of the circuit breakers at what point. Would the regulators stepping in and say hey hold on hold on everybody all the new computers and all you algorithms. You take a timeout is or stopped trading. So the the rule on its all based on. And the S&P 500 and looks at the index and how you know how much it's moving. And if the the market goes down by 7%. Before. 2:30 PM I believe there's there's there's an end point where they won't after 3:25 PM there won't to a halt no matter what but if it goes down. I'm more than 7% during the trading days and there is gonna take a fifteen minute pause put him one time on say no no trading for fifteen minutes. There's an additional one at 13%. And then if the market goes down by 20% and one day my stop trading today. All done for the day. We were pretty close yesterday at one point when that market is down 15100 points we knew we were really not that close I mean it's so after a few more. Hundred points there and it was it was reasonably close to 7% correction. Tucker you still. When you were anti depression medication. I was a problem often are very physical. All we and a spot in all too soon I have some Super Bowl I actually woke up this morning or pissed off Weaver. I don't know I didn't think those possible yes I am still quite to forest. The ID this Super Bowl which was a darn good game. Right even if you're the lose thousands and it was interchange rate is lot of points lot of offense and as most yards any game and mr. Was at the most points of any game in history to know just yards on just Jared so. On but it was the least watched Super Bowl since 2009 which I really found surprising buys. You had two big markets and the Philadelphia. Which is. Top ten TV market in yet Boston which is a top ten via TV market and so much of the country hates Boston. Bet I was sure that this was going to be record setting or. It was is terrible as yet it is so we averaged a 103 point four million viewers lowest rate since 2009. Represents just over 7% drop from last year. What happened is it is in line though if you take a look at the overall decline it's pretty much in line with what you saw throughout the NFL season. So all that really means you just didn't see you know a suitable bump agency he'll come back and watch the super ball. You know if somebody didn't watch the whole regular season they didn't want the suitable either. It's not just the Super Bowl the grammys were down by 24%. And the Golden Globes were down by 5% so something is fundamentally. Changing. With the Americans viewing area. Yeah and I think it's pretty easy to seek just go walking into any one. I would say under the age of thirty walk into their home their apartment man and turn on the television and if it doesn't turn on July TV right away. There you ago I don't have a bash is of some Plum Island is half the television the turn on those homes do not turn on live TV press department like I. You tell you with the numbers because we had them last week to record call 50%. Of people under forty. Don't watch on television. Gasoline that they stream. The the the you know and many people under the age forty. Don't have direct TV you don't have cable. Michael's brother who just rented an apartment in Manhattan I asked him you know it just talking to more over the weekend isn't so would you do for TV package now leading get these guys. Internet service for forty bucks a month yet Internet service. As it's every eight because we have apple TV we prize winning at any time. Which kind of doubt that that is the way of the world that doesn't mean I got by when I cut the court record I discuss pirating Amazon fire's taken into stream Netflix and Amazon. Prime videos of the world I'm in Utah has a package now there were advertising that heavily during the Super Bowl yeah I believe that is 35 bucks a month and act gives you pretty much everything does that give you like them lightly DE yet NBC CBS. BC a seizure and all the light all ordinaries at least with the other I haven't seen YouTube service but I've seen a lot of the other services and it all varies based on where you actually there's all different restrictions based on where you are. Compare in that market so for instance Sony PlayStation as there offering via PlayStation PlayStation view and we are out in Indiana seeing some some family. Andy did not get pretty much any of the local stations. If you look at Boston you can get most of some looking at you two TV what siren now and again like Mike said. It's varies eastern area but to logos I'm looking matter ABC CBS fox MBC and you know the rest of the usual such suspects by yes and seemed no good thing is that talkers Fox News if you contact your cable company where you're getting your Internet service than. They'll charge you for less than 35 dollars and give you modest package that includes a lot of those channels. So it's. He did that in the cable companies are fighting back but evidently they're losing them and also to our local perspective I'm kind of surprised here medicines include into court newness and YouTube TV outs which is a huge breaking point for people cutting the cord out yet insider blog. It is just not in essence eight bucks a month on its all the logos there are so they must included bird interest. They coming up will be joined by Garrett Patton. High net worth individuals one of the biggest things that changes are some of the rules about gifting as well as higher rate at 41 K contributions how much do people put into a 41 K plan. Yes so back in 2017 that limit was 181000 dollars per individual that number is going up slightly this year for 2018 is to be 181500. And don't forget if you're over the age of fifty you have an additional 6000 you could put in there. Totaling 24500. However on the higher race side nothing's changing you can still put in 5500. And that hire an adamant did not go out so it's really about the employer sponsored plans. For this one -- on the gift tax side of things for 2017 you can give away 141000. Dollars per individual without filing any sort of gift tax return in 2018 that number is also going up to 151000 dollars so you know as we've seen the bigger changes are definitely on the corporate side but there are some small changes around the edges on the individual side that you take advantage of can be significant. We're joined now by Garrett patent from seeking alpha you talk to us about a couple big names drivers are with. Apple here. You know problem. Apple that the stock lemon and because it actually topped it and people on the market and airport at potential lead. At the bottom. I'm introvert you pay attention to fundamentals these the company just reported record breaking earnings again and and could now back. He has got up. Are you gonna. We've been looking if I've been looking at this company a lot because you compare them to the FaceBook the Amazon's and the other big tech names out here. And on a relative basis they do seem to be the most undervalued take a look at their. Cash flow of their earnings and hear what makes this company more undervalued in the other tech players out there. It is I think a lot of news and out there and these. He's an incredible run a lot of the content companies and market and yet apple has lacking in some respect and art. I'm but I don't think that really hasn't anything to do with you know line I don't know the company and I do think that it's to their site go attack. On the charts. Yeah I'm I'm looking forward basically hit bottom between here and around when we are in action they. Should under later this year. Yeah I made on January 18 of a say they're trading around 179 today closer 158 so. Deathly ill but the pullback could be out to be inching that you point and then you also avenue west AT&T. Obviously very different company but what do you like about these guys these days. I began from other technical perspective I think that it turns really attractive looking at. Filling out an inverted head and shoulders over the line up one. Other rate shall there pattern or close to completing it should be. A lot of ground by it and I think an example out that our forties later this year. A good 2030%. Potential up side. Stock dividend right now arguably their divisions. Do you think it will have a dividend. That in by. That. The opportunity here. And what do you like on AT&T vs you know the other big players I guess really the only other big player right now Verizon's I do think net neutrality changes much of the environment that you them. Yeah Everett beat the other players I'm actually bullish on both. Net neutrality. I think is going to be it bench for the Telecom companies and there's another thing I picked up in the future such as. I. Their leaders. Yeah that could be very very agency you know see where they can really grow from here beacons. You're seeing very much increased competition that there while I appreciate join us Garrett two stocks mentioned AT&T ticker symbol T. And apple ticker symbol AA PL appreciate you coming on. But very much reverent thanks. You mentioned five G technology and I don't think. Did that has been big in yet to their stock price in terms of what it does to decrease cost. You think about it fundamentally. You know right now. You have some cable running indeed your house to provide you with Internet service I don't know it's Verizon mine happens to be Verizon. But the cost associate with that in and all of the technology. In ending the wires that are running through you know free you know through the town. Panel changes with five G five G folks who you and I hope we can understand and appreciate news. Are you gonna do is have this little. Antenna on the front of your house that the size of the pipe plate. And it's going to be pointed towards telephone poll out on the street or that telephone pole might be half a mile away. And it's gonna point towards this. Transmitter. And that's how you're going to get your Internet service to think about the cost savings in Indy. And and and the lack of interruption that it's going to occur. When you get away from. Putting it was just the labor involved after the Verizon files of the world that that's pretty Hughes well I imagine you'll see it come and you know. Downtown Boston I'll be pretty quick you'll see that happening there were tossed starting right here suburbs you know warmer areas is it starting on the West Coast with Verizon in on the East Coast with AT&T. And this he did this is simply unity. This is a tidal wave. That's gonna sweep across the country. And Verizon and AT&T are the beneficiaries why. Because they have the capital to implement this technology. And cost savings or just enormously. You about that they the Verizon guys would come your house when I had my horizon line installed for files it was too man. Working in my house for multiple hours. And Andy in. And that all goes away now what they do is they stick the pie plate on the burn your house right and knee go into your existing wires. But there's no wire going from your house to wherever that Cigna is being transmitted from that amazing technology. And and the speed of the speed of it is much faster. You're beginning to fifty up and down now compared to what you get now you know if you measure your speed at home now. Don't be surprised if you're getting you know maybe fifty upn fifty down yet is it just the speeds just aren't there. It's a volatile day on the market you know the markets are down as much as 567. Guide how tax reform. Affects high net worth investors and Mike what are the biggest change that we see is in the federal estate tax and what happened to this number as a result of tax reform. Sure certain 2017. You can give to five point five million dollars on your passenger airs there have been no estate taxes on the federal level. For married couple that number was eleven million these numbers are effectively doubling so instead five point five million you're now looking at eleven million for an individual and 2.2 million for married couples so this is really impacting very few individuals. I mean in the aggregate were. Americans these days and remember that's a pretty hefty tax rate if you get hit with the estate tax you're talking upwards of 40% of that value of which are trying to pass on so the federal limit is doubling the five of the six New England states have state estate taxes as well the most restrictive one Massachusetts that number starts to million dollars is guys and guy you know it's not just the amount over a million dollars if you go over a million dollars in Massachusetts you pay state taxes on everything you have but you know going through the list Connecticut as an estate tax of two point six million Maine eleven point two million like you said Massachusetts one million Rhode Island is about one point five in Vermont's about two and three quarters the only state knowing the without one is New Hampshire. Well the stock market had been doing quite well last year was a terrific year speaking of 2017 and in January 20 team we saw record inflows. Into stocks was over a hundred billion dollars they came into stocks during the month of January. But when he team. And son of a gun by the second of February the wheels started to come off last Friday folks who Dow down 600 points yesterday. Monday the Dow at one point was down 16100 points finishing down the day for about 11100 points and then today. Holy cow it's been another roller coaster this morning it. 4 in the morning is down on 05600 points. Well right now the markets are seemingly coming down with the Dow up fourteen points hi everybody it's Berrian like with you here. On a Tuesday where we'll try to help you make sense some sense as to what's going on with the stock markets activity thus far. Yeah I'm not sure you can say it's coming down community I its flat and it is just swinging back and forth and back and you know volumes are enormous yeah. I mean volumes are being up there shutting down financial firm's web sites and if it brokerage firms aren't losing website here earlier today we could not get onto the fidelity dot com website in yesterday a Liz Boyd there's a lot of them yet you ask me Schwab and guard T. Rowe Price to name a few of the big ones you mentioned with Peter making for trading revenues right now I mean fidelity. Is being young they about the publicly traded companies like Merrill Lynch. They're treating like crazy right now Bank of America's trading like crazy which is Morgan Stanley. Different aspects if you look at there if you look at those companies are reports of the last. Five years really have not been making much at all on trading revenue because just open up and up Boise city facility yet you say to yourself how much can they make. It's only an eight dollar tree it will cost them nothing. Right it's anything it's it's an eight dollar trade and they have to have the infrastructure. To provide that service whether they get Yuri dollars or not wreck and maybe you're getting a lower price that may be getting four dollars three dollars two dollars utterly pain for trades. But the fact of the matter is TD Ameritrade E*Trade they are killing it absolutely killing in the last few days you know the lack of volatility hurts those company yeah. Now up and up and up is you know not greed is good for the mutual funds raised here Richard mutual fund Broderick both vanguard and fidelity are no way it's good for that second business but for their brokerage arm off and largely okay big packs for them and that those those pieces that are hurting. Up well you we have a poll question today which has to do with the third day in a row are we going to be in negative. Territory Tucker Sobel what's our question what are the results so far that question today dairies will market finished in negative territory today. And 64%. Of our listeners are saying you know it will mocks and 35 point 7% are saying yes it will finish in negative territory so for the most part our listeners are pretty bullish. It looks like at the they're saying we're gonna have a positive day 6535. Net interest now 67. Wow changing by the moment. Well I I know yesterday we need a point of avoiding the Super Bowl this topic because many of you were depressed after Sunday night's loss. But nobody was more depressed than the guys that bought all the T shirts and all the caps to sell here. In all the people that run the parade route. For the Super Bowl victory party. Yeah I mean he'd take a look at that you know all of those bars and restaurants have been placing orders for more boos and chicken wings and a day at a story here they were ready. Yeah they are there today this story about a guy who ordered 5000 T shirts and luckily didn't print Somalia it is so easy return to return to the add to that manufactures he would have been printing a month Sunday night adrenaline that's right. The United States obviously Boston there is taken hit there's an inch thing there's mention study done about you know kind of the the laws of diminishing returns when it comes to Super Bowl victories right. They talk about the fact that. Yeah net net the economy the Philadelphia victory if you look at the overall US economy is much better because you know it's gonna go buy that six Super Bowl champion teacher now in New England where is that pretty much everyone in Philadelphia is buying talk their souls he cited. And all of a sudden now you also have to factor in the human destruction that's currently going to say if if and rebuilding costs for the entire city. But the guy a filly never wins anything you know we need the near the end. When it hockey it'll time basketball. They get a basketball Tucker. There are upping coming but they've been horrible for several years now we're about baseball. They've put him back in 2000. What was 2009 analysts say they didn't write and then and then football the this is their first Super Bowl victory they played a Super Bowl before. Their pursuit guzzle 2008 the Phillies one they did miss it had a few victories that you know. He exports to Boston comparatively rates similar size. Does a lot better and sports and handle it yeah. But yeah a lot of a lot of bars restaurants really had to change a lot of plans. They're on penalties employees working in the knocking need them now. Yeah just the big changes. The Fed Federal Reserve. Is backing and marijuana focused credit union so I read this story and said to myself. Credit unions are going to be of the process marijuana transactions it's not in times. If he had not quite say the name of the craziness fourth corner credit union for anyone that hasn't been keeping up on the story there's been big issues. With this industry because if you're a bank. You rate way to regulate on the federal level and you can't touch this money today you've got all this cash that these. Companies won deposit they want process credit card transactions and they can't because they cannot have access. To federal. You know to federal organizations be used marijuana still legal on the federal level. So this new credit union which this is just the initial step and what the what the Fed said is yeah we're gonna prove yet. But they're not going to be touching any of the actual money from dispensaries basically they're going to be assisting guests on the attorneys. Some of the different accountants and things like that that are working with the medical marijuana industry. OK if you're one of those attorneys you can. Take payments from those from those companies and will deposit the funds for him but if you are dispensary yourself yet you look at them and you know. Well in Massachusetts. Is going to have recreational candidates. In July it will be available for sale mean. He's sorry I mean I editing you know do just medical do it nobody its recreational proved they voted for so the the the only bank that I know of in Massachusetts that will be processing these trades. He century. You know marshals long years you do in the yeah how. The they're they're not federally charted end because if you're federally chartered bank you can't do it. But Century Bank must not be federally chartered bank and Marshall Sloan to his credit is saying. You know we're gonna process and imagine the money that the bank who processes this is gonna make aria the early entrance to this industry are gonna make alma. The problem is if if you're not federally chartered bank can you have FDIC insurance to their you can now that's kind of hey it'll be it'll be mentioned to seek. And aid in Colorado it's going to be an interest in situation rappers now you're gonna have all of these dispensaries trying to do business with. Mean knock called money laundering but it effectively after me trying to doing it very dangerous they're. You care around the water and millions of dollars in cash and the bad guys know that they're here and around a lot of money cash needs resolution what PS solutions going to be though so far it hasn't created a problem you can bet it's going to. Hoover and lift are pulling people off a public transit and putting them in traffic study says no surprise there I mean if you look at New York. This week they measure the pace of traffic in New York City yeah it's slowed down markedly. Since Hoover who came in to business by ten years. Yes in New York City seems to be the only actual city that's measuring how much traffic is being created by Hoover in the list but today. There was a study done here that looked dead and 944. Different passengers in the Massachusetts area what they found is that. 60% of them said if they weren't using Hoover left they are just be walking or taking public transit they wouldn't even be hopping and cab they wouldn't consider it. There is saying hey in this I would rather be you know just walking so you're definitely adding more traffic on the streets where you are in and you know the the thing is. It's gotten to the point where Hoover list. Are lower cost than taking it taxi yeah and is not that much more than running subway recipe were denied threat that the problem does he go to New York. Getting around is just awful you know on a Saturday yeah you're better off walking. The annual Arctic and it's not much better on 128 in Boston you go to drive 95 on a Saturday night at 10 o'clock Anderson in traffic it's. My my solution as yet add tolls on 95 in 93. And yet Jack crystals. Let them know about that in order and hated but I have your sail on an incredibly unpopular yes this. That's my solution. We are joined now by Natasha letter from the economist talked to us about a couple big stories and healthcare industry it seems like the last few years we've been. You know in the midst of a slow moving. Series of changes that health care industry. Welcome to Tosh or did you kind of walk us through that big you know the big change there were seeing specifically are on the technology of health care these days. Well with being a little more they anticipate it being gathered on my house dot being ticketed Barry he's it is whether it. And the offenses that we had an op and or was that tasted it. Hospital holed about an. That this that is growing interest in you that day and very ways maybe that can cost sort of land a packed house. Button and what have we seen today in terms of you know applications on my. What sort of diseases are they out there trying to treat. Well I mean what is. Mean a lot of Iraq. He'd done it today it. Claims it is how. And it is very interesting aspirants from monitoring elements until cycled it. You know. Measuring an embassy said that he take a look at life. Apps like Patton. And the animal kind of significant and changes that. And aptitude for the printing that I have to go applicants in keeping things that's. They quote is total anarchy to DT these schools that unite. And it's potentially piece of software. That they just stated clinical trials to create. They can bring some kind health status as one example would be an app helps you not answer it dot BT. And decapitate. Him. It did commit most it may take you in that day how much he ping and and how much exercising. And then interviewed a lot of with the alcoholism in Panama and predict if and it takes it to just pay. How things he should act to pave what you should be doing things like back then. But a pack that packs the beauty how awful and helping and got back managed that. That condition and unity can now have these. He's not been produced. I need to get a described by a top. Another that is coming along. But since he's been looted. Another son trying to did not want to 88 B and children. I didn't actually campaign and wished they hadn't is going to get that that it helped. Children control it into the team respond to it. But the minute I think about them is that. What they've been to the trial's been sent between that and it took trials that CNET dot funny that he child. The top nonetheless that they can keep is that that it. And ultimately. They become more accepted these digital cops. He could actually. You'll find that talk to them or more willing to describe them in and Piet pensioners will be willing to pay and the impact. Yeah I was gonna ask that's obviously the FDA's gun involved they've reviewed some of these treatments doctors seem to be getting on board how about insurance companies because that's what I think of as you know who's gonna really change consumer behavior well if your insurance company incentivizes you to use this technology. And that's gonna really tricked change things have any the big insurers said yeah this treatments were willing to pay for. I didn't I can't had an individual basis. Only in shape. And oh. I can say that day that hat. We impacting. Well dull. Which is diabetes. And some insurers and back in the and losses. These. That's been around Austin. Working on. These apps to be confident that they will stay and more and more insurance. Impacting the let me having that means one of the things that testing will mention aid and actually. Making it happen is not that. You cannot see and Mensa. How well. Getting he'd he'd get feedback and Sydney. It is much much much more usable speed and he kind of that whether that lacking in key compact day. Got out and even if he doesn't know it whacking away at the babies eat gap much. Make sure about how well elect. And commodity that getting. It back and Nazis to petition. Now expect to ride. To patients it back to that. Coming and still maintain. And we shouldn't expect the caddie and just have a description to many jets. But I would say it yet now I think it would be much more keen to to these things. Happen. I don't leave the demand that the patient except that his lap and mean if it's. Taking it needed to compete and one pill that that you know he did trying. You know that maybe it meant that we we have quite. But it's happening and not if it by saying and it kind of thing Nina I think. You apparently about it that is Apple's. Ante. Last week and I would need. You know patient's stool based on the and I think it is. Potentially quite an insisting that department as well because. You know act patient that you handing mandate that they'll become. Yeah at bowling gate in the house as well I think that that public apartment. Yeah absolutely and then. I don't percent time to talk about for half an hour but the entrance and die Amazon Burke shear in JPMorgan more I'm sure. Pretty substantial. Implications but I just don't know where yet. Natasha voter joined us from the economist today talking about new health care apps that. Made very soon be revolutionizing the industry and Josh thank you very much for joining us. Iraq. Biggest issue there is accountability. You know rate on your phone. And it's like these the exercise apps yeah I'd I swim is a form of exercise so I can check my phone. Every day and say how many meters put in this month in Ireland and and that tells me leatherman good month their bad yeah I mean. We talked about just the dramatic increase in costs of health care in this country and yeah I think a lot of it has to do with the lack of accountability and personal responsibility and prescribes me treatment I don't remember to take the whole thing and up in the emergency rooms they were monitoring their glucose or if he can use technology says it helped that out than that can be huge in. That's where I think what the doctors can be of them have a meeting with patience and like told he need to. Yet you know 45 minutes of Carty you vascular exercise every day and I can tell by your phone. You haven't Pattinson on the couch potato chips and African beer and Andy. In and then the doctor you know at least has that information right and knows that OK I've got a patient that is not going to exercise wreck. You know if it's if it's an Internet based on them I mean there's one thing that I think those three Amazon Burke sheer JPMorgan. A group can. At least provide his excellent data and it made me know how to collect and use good data and that's that's an important first that now. I you know we talked about the markets yesterday in a one story that kind of went on to hold simply because were so busy talking about a 16100 point decline in the Dow. He's in a row where the market goes down a heavy volume and large percentages I don't know the answer. But right now the Dow was down a 145. Points Tucker syllable we have a poll question today what is it what are the results thus far a poll question today is will the market finished in negative territory and 70% of her listeners are saying no they don't think you will. Finished in negative territory souls they are well it's it's still early till 1132 are here. For a half hour of trading. Here's how much money you have to earn in order to live comfortably in every US state. And so I went through I saw the story in MarketWatch. In Connecticut. The living wage is considered to be 59502. Dollars per year now here's the trial. If you're in Greenwich Connecticut that might pay your property taxes. If you're in New London, Connecticut that's pretty good weight you know it made Connecticut is a state of great disparity. In common well. Yeah I mean pretty huge and you get towards that New York area were once commuting into the city and some highest real estate values in the country throughout the world. And yeah you get out towards the right I'm kidding about that property tax in order to. Well some of those houses I'm sure you know this living wage thing where it's retarded man has just. How much you need to pay for your food may be sent news assumes that two per three person family two parents and one child so. You know daycare costs things like that it does not include. You know going out for any meals and indications. Or any money for savings or investments if you're making 59000 dollars on average in Connecticut your discreet and there's there's no action left overs it. In Maine deluding wage need is 51305. Dollars per year than. Massachusetts. Living wage needs is 5900560. However the median household income in Massachusetts quite high. 75200. In 97 dollars compare that to Maine. Means median household income is only 53000. Dollars yep. We have met remains pretty similar to me at and New Hampshire tie my characters got almost 71000. Of median household income in only 55000. Is required for a living wage there's a lot less people. Commuting from Maine to Massachusetts and our people living captured me to Massachusetts and that's. Could be a big piece of it. New York State you need to 59000. Dollars to have a living wage in New York State Rhode Island you need 53000. Earnings to have a living wage and in Vermont finally. Vermont the last state in New England that will mention living wage is considered to be 51977. Dollars per year median household income in Vermont. 57677. Dollars a year. Damning no surprise there that the New England states are right at the top there in terms what you need to earn it and in order to survive at a reasonable level. Generally speaking when you talk to your peers. Are the favorably inclined towards having Amazon's. Headquarters. Locate in Boston. And a I met I am because I think of it in terms of job creation in real estate values and opportunity for. Everybody Whittier young girl I've been Amazon having their headquarters in your city is an advantage. Yeah I mean absolutely I think it's pretty tough to make an argument against it. But you know and the poll numbers reflect and it looks like about 7070%. Of people 67%. Said yep that might have them sit and they did a big poll samples 7141000. People you know we're surveyed. So most of us would like to have M is on relocate there or not relocate it to. Locate their second headquarters we actually heard anything happens to be there was an interesting. Rumor I don't know if you Saudi elects a commercial on the Super Bowl via Alexa loses her voice was the premise yet. And the user said. Alexa give me a weather for Austin, Texas. And a lot of people speculated that that might be hands as to where the second headquarters is going to be out I was there while firmer on Sunday night Monday morning I could see that. We didn't we also have a rumor circulating that The Who had leased an entire building and seaport. I yet Eleanor rumor yeah that was frank and a there was a report losing in January idea early January. Policy. You know the if it's Doritos. And knowing that limited to torn cities but it's still big list. Does that. I advance estate planning has many benefits including avoiding probate passing your assets and launch your family possibly eliminating estate taxes and perhaps most important protection from the nursing. And 37 now have 100000. Dollars or more saved. Does this surprise you. A little the little bit because I always thought you guys are spend all your money and avocados toast I kind of don't believe this report on 16%. Yeah I was sixteen flags and when I found it hard to believe they won in six year bodies have an aggressive. Yeah. And that's going to be passed out for the family bankers I don't know how wells you'd see about 100000 also told all the student loans that were paying off Yelp know a lot of your peers are having have a lot. But the yen. The disorder goes on to talk about. How much you should have saved out. By various stages in your life right so when your. 35 years old you should have twice wherever your annual salaries saved up so let's just assume for argument sake. When you're 35 years old Jamaican 80000 bucks a year that means you should have a 160000. Dollars. Then when your forty let's say by time you're forty you're making a 100000 dollars a year. You should have three times your angels sing for 300000 dollars by the time your 45. You should have. Four times your annual salary saved up innate you see the progress part of every five years old the gat you should have another year of your salary saved well and by the time you're 65 which is kind of you know. He used to be when people would retire now he's got people working beyond that and many of the people working Michael beyond 65. Some are doing it because pure enjoyment and I've got a friend who's a doctor he's in his eighties and and he's probably gonna work to that he drops but. We have cigars with him on New Year's ID. Expect. Ed 8065. The suggestion is that you have eight times your annual salary saved. So again you retire at age 65 you're making 120000 dollars a year do the math. Because the finger remembers Eddie 65. Your health care costs theoretically should be on the decline because you're gonna go on Medicare. And you're also gonna be eligible for Social Security which will replace the substantial portion of your income and might only be. 2530%. Depends on how much money nature. But if you retire at age 65. With the earnings earned income 120000. Dollars a year chances are your Social Security checks going to be. 12500 dollars to 3000 dollars a month right now it's 230. You know 3035000. Dollars a year. So those are the numbers 65. What had eight times your salary saved that in the year that should be your goal. They have created an instinct you know way to look at and you know really set some goals there but yeah AM by thirty in the goal is to have about your annual salary it saved up in one form or another ruby retirement account or however you want to. I saw a story in Bloomberg a driver Lewis future threatens the laws and rules state in this really make you think. Because right now when you're buying a house. Often times depending on your household you're gonna buy a house based on its proximity to a highway. Raced on its proximity to your office or based on its proximity to a bus stop or train station back it'll change with drivers as cart technology. It really could. You really do have to imagine a future that I think it's twenty to thirty years out here in order to really sat far. Well because I do believe the drive less technologies can be here soon. Today I believe you next year GM next year drive those cars on the road and I think ten years from now to be fairly common. But I don't know that infrastructures can keep up with that fast. Reggie you really believe that suddenly the you know I ninety going into the Boston is now going to be six lanes instead of two and half right now you know I have a really tough times that they get the infrastructure to be able to deal with the influence that would come from this many new Giles now the the theory is behind drivers are so much is that there's fewer accidents. And you unity the reduction in accidents is over 90% yet but it's also a lot of the traffic was caused by human error yet it's also saying that people are going to be you far less demand of being close to train station. And if that's gonna happen you have to. You have to have more remembrance because if if no one's taking into the city of Boston I I. Yeah out there are busy going on issues but right now I really think. You need more infrastructure to seal the deal and many more cars because the the idea behind these drive those cars to -- ways that they will be little pots and out of the car via a pod size and day. It'll drive you into. NC member accidents declined by 92% the term score I think bad idea of you having you know fifteen politics and act together for me foray you know I train of cars going to the city I think that's closer to twenty years'. Time we'll see your grandfather who needs to buy new car yet is thinking about buying a driver whose car. He's the man makes sense that you can add generation makes a lot of sense he you can go to cattle today. And he can buy a car. That will drive him to Lucy's grandchildren and that's notable. Yeah I interviewed people and driven they're gonna take you on the highway for a few miles but it will not get you to your grandchildren's house call I don't know Dick take a look at the Cadillac or I have I have interviewed the people that protester and then they take you on the highway they would not be taking you on those that. You know first. 10% of the trip in the last wipes a trip it's not get there today. What's happening happening to Smartphone sales where actually take a look at the numbers might surprise you.
