This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and sharks are now. You're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chuck Exxon. Three big stories that we will lead off today's show without warning includes the end of the government shut. Treatment care too much about that we have new terror acts that are going to be opposed so you might expect to pay a little bit more for that washing machine. And then finally we do you have news out of Vermont and recreational marijuana is now legal what might surprise you is that there is a fourth. New England states. That appears to be getting ready to legalize recreational. One hi everybody it's Berrian like with you here on Tuesday and will start off with that government shutdown story much ado about nothing. Estimation as a we're close for three days I guess you probably don't really mind a whole lot of unless you're one of those thousands of poison we're gonna work. They still get paid coloring pages they get three days often say they'll end up getting paid for those three days that they'll end up getting paid for and I you know and last time this happened Ethier is much longer was it two and a half three weeks less than this happened. So two weeks you know that was a bigger issue I think there's rain in the summertime Rutland national parks and things like this. February or did you know to January right now government shut down for a few days not as much an issue in the did get back up quickly. The real problem they have when this happens is you know when it's shut down for a while. You just racking up costs ray you're paying people for not gonna work right. And not just Kenya closed the building G you know read keep him heeded wall nobody's there it's just a lot of opening and closing costs that you wouldn't normalcy. But this is just a short term pause right this is only like three week actually stand and battling they're going to be facing the exact same issue on February. Right Stan grant to deal with us again. And mr. Connell saying that they're gonna try and you know find a solution on immigration and border security but then he will bring a bill. He says you may bring a bill to the war on immigration if they don't have a compromise setup. Rules. But it and that is the of the big sticking point is immigration and would you do. With these. That baca. That's right that the generic kids the added daka recipients. You know what happens with them when seems to want a solution for the spread at what prices the real question. That big story I think of the day was this fact today yesterday afternoon. The United States decided to impose new terror offs ramping up the America first trade policy and the year targeted primarily Asian producers. Of solar panels and it would appear to be. Washing machines because whirlpool stock is up to the world pulls up a few percent today. And in rate what you had here was a suit brought by these two I believe they're not US owned their solar manufactures in the United States. Who argued that you know basically because of the flood of imports from China. On solar panels they are just really adversely impact their action both in bankruptcy proceeding right now so obviously they're pretty excited about it but on the downside would you have is. A much larger number solar installer is that are pretty concerned about us. Well that's right Indy you know they're looking at it saying well installations are gonna go down because American handles her so much more expensive. Now if a Chinese channel if you buy a system today. And you know music around numbers here that day to us to. Provides solar for fairly large house you're gonna buy anywhere from. That are thirty to forty panels in your cost is going to be you know thirty to 40000 dollars to install. If all set that cost goes up. What's gonna go up by 30% is only the materials and installation costs of this game but you know even if you so half of that in percent 15% increase and that's really significant. It is it is well anyway will only eat my most economists by the way. Will point out that you know we knew getting to trade wars because we're imposing these tariffs on products made a lot coming out of South Korea and China. Now we're going to impose tariffs and now would happen is in a week or two weeks. China and South Korea will impose tariffs on American and it's so they'll be things that we want to sell to China. That we won't be allowed to at all or at bill imposes stiff tariff on so trade wars generally speaking and on historical basis. Trade wars have been a dampen her. On the economy is slows down growth it slows down employment and decreases wages when you start. Getting trade wars. Any cures my take on this is. You know if the Chinese want to flood the US market on solar panels and make him really really expensive to produce things that these things at a loss. In. I don't really see the issue that there if we're gonna buy them you know if you can make an argument to me that solar panels rather. If your brother was working it solar plant building yeah sure I'd be I'd be pretty ticked but. Preferred the net benefit to the economy right unless you can make the argument to need that solar panels not having US manufacturing solar panels is a danger to our. You know future national security that I'm I'm not really sure that I'm in favor attire like this I I understand the argument that yet you're losing American some American jobs for here. But the net impact of the net impact substantially more by raising the terrorists because these dollars are gonna lose the jobs I don't see that that's particularly good argument. Tucker Silva we have a poll question today here's throughout the hour poll question today which you can see at financial exchange showed dot com. Do you approve of the new tariffs imposed by the trumped administration yes yes or no. And once again it's a financial change show dot com like Renault where island. That's a note yet how the and and there's going to be a myriad of opinions on this you know people that work in manufacturing. It you know you reference to companies in bankruptcy. Right those are people that you know loss root out there used to be a solar manufacturer camera with the name four Evans yeah. And you know they're paying their workers seventeen to twenty bucks an hour in the Chinese put him out of business dinners so eat you know and those hundreds of jobs. And and frankly it was also. For me if I'm wrong but I think the Commonwealth of Massachusetts invested fifty million dollars I'd you greatest dad. Yes believe me it was it was a master service that federal investment masters so as a and a I can't remember the name of the company but it was out of four deaths and and they went bust buddies here publicly traded that would completely out of business yet so they're EU can participate in our poll you simply go. Financial exchange showed dot com. Very simple the roof of the tariffs or do you not like I can tell you. He erratically. In most economists. On both sides of the aisle way. Would tell you that tariffs or bad thing he'd trade wars are bad thing because the date and and we learned this. Over hundreds of years that trade worse cause more problems then decree benefits here's what I think it's our right. Big day the president has elected to indigenous and yet his choice and he won the elections or is it to anyone yet and you know he talked about this while campaigning in my mind the question is is this really an indication of future policy is the solar panel market is yeah it's big but it's. No more new years you know bears significant portion of our of our US economy is this going to be. You know the trajectory of what we start doing a lot of different products. We will find out only time will tell her. Well yesterday we speculated that recreational marijuana would be illegal and Vermont and in fact the governor Phil Scott signed a bill. Legalizing the possession and consumption of marijuana for adults over the each. A 21. This makes Vermont the first state to legalize marijuana through east state legislature. As opposed to a ballot initiative. And the bill however does not set up a commercial market that the sale of marijuana. Which really leads this thing to the wild wild west but he kind of wonder what's gonna happen from here I mean well. I mean I disagree with is some concern me and read days have been during that in Massachusetts for what the last two years and you know I don't think there's been an increase in violence or anything like that but yeah I think the real issue that Vermont's facing as if you don't Singapore market place and you're not doing anything to generate any revenue -- Now you know you you're doing nothing. Really benefit you and if there's any costs associated with a vineyard you know you lose in right Brent front. I think it's a pride I think the senate market sooner than later now. Maybe adjusting to see what they do I mean Massachusetts as a very stringent market test. You know there's all kinds of codes and if you talk to anybody in that business. In the if it's perplexing because it adds so much cost to their operations if security guard to the story you can't have that you can't buy. Medical marijuana. In a recreational pot shop right and you can't buy a recreational marijuana in a medical pot shop and you have to have a security guard at both that is just it. If you look at the law in Massachusetts. It sure adds a lot of expensed the thing that I find. Interest is that the House of Representatives in New Hampshire passed a similar marijuana legalization bill earlier this month. We have not heard anything from the governor. As to whether he'll sign. Dan rather mean Vermont is now one of thirty states that has occurred in and then on top of that number of US territories courier Purdue at so it's now you're you're not not recreational like this is and that this rise in medical medical doctor about your answer this recreational which isn't. Yeah I I I I suspect Vermont. And New Hampshire looking at this insane or not gonna let this money flowed down the Massachusetts I was in. Or main area like if you're if if your New Hampshire legislator. And you're taken Jack Hanna and let all this money over to Maine and a legalize at New Hampshire now. Absolutely the same thing happened with Sinatra. You know Connecticut was getting a lot of that revenue in the rest the states or terms and forget this and Wynonna. NAFTA when you're thirty years yeah they're want to. Coming up we're take another look at the flu season bad news as it relates to the flu you better be careful it's a pretty. The Centers for Disease Control of the CDC has stated that the number of people sick with the flu is continuing decline. And transmission is now the most intense it is in since the 2009. Pandemic Hebert I think it's pretty ugly. Some will be confused about these two stats are is the worst transmissions since 2009. Bill more people were hospitalized back in the 2014 point fifteen flu season so I guess more people are getting the flu but it doesn't seem to be at least as severe his back. Going back three years ago. It's really hitting it very young rate years so children. And the old heart disease and and delivers summaries and people between fifty and 65. Are also say her reasons it you know they're they're not clear out. But the it's a terrible strain of flu and unfortunately. The flu shots that we adopt many of us god. Are not helping yet they didn't seem to be all that effective you know take a look at the last decade. The most effect that the flu shots have ever been was around 60% effective level at the worst it's been about 20%. It's looking like we're right around 30% this year some pretty close to that well. They are saying they'll like it. People who got the flu shot even though little less effective shot this year to your point 30%. They are suffering less with the flu as a result of having had that shot so. Yet the they're still getting the flu and they're still laid up for you know eight if the normal person's lit up for five days if you got the shot might be up for three days. But it's it's still. It's still hitting an. That's what makes some naysayers a little skeptical excellent care at a put poison in my body. And there's you know 2030% chance at a home. Yeah you know I think what we might really badly need this country's is that very conclusive study that can prove to be without evidence that. Yes the flu shot is somewhat effective or true notes and today I hear far too frequently if you don't get flu shots well yeah. You know I never house me are you know I read the study ten years ago that showed that it really didn't decreased hospitalizations when people got the flu shots though. I decide I just don't get anymore and I think we he really tough timbers. The I understand but if you talked to medical profession yeah I'm talking. Registered nurses. Nurse practitioners physician's assistant or doctors and it will across the board they debate they consider to be settled side they say you. Absolutely. Get the flu shot and I tend to get my medical advice from doctor yet try to get well. And I get my dental advice from my dentist tonight get money. Mechanical advice from my automobile. 88 and that's that's right it pollution. But boy maybe they need to improve this thing because people are looking Aniston well you know 30% effectiveness hey you know what you're doing better than. The as a bit of self or drops if a ton of people don't get their flu shot that's a lot easier to spread. Excellent work I mean I've got an instance I was a kid I've said that numerous times so. You know I don't you get sick though Tucker now. I just had got over wicked cold of those more a sinus congestion during which everybody gets Tucker also gets his car fixed by social studies teacher. I do not who I do enough to and it gets it and then work from his dog walker yeah. Pay it if it's data personal decision I I I I don't see it because Ali I. Believe my doctor that it's come comes down that they could get raster doctor Tucker just getting with Lucia now. No because I haven't gone to the doctor because I've been sick about that. Pull your mind Smart with the I hate. The old people we have it we have to go to the doctor like three or four times a year check your medications him. It let's go back to the story about in this. Atlanta supposedly. Is in the lead. And there are four other cities. That are strong contenders well this study was done by. GPH insights and they predict at least five. Of the remaining twenty candidates have a chance at getting him as a second of course let me give you the criteria. One it's going to be on the East Coast. Two as to have a thriving engineering. In university infrastructure. And student pipeline. Has to have it transportation hub with knee jerk growth. Potential C that's a real bad one for lost I underline those three words major growth potential that's tough. Number four and in terms what Amazon is looking for. Strong technology and pharmaceutical industry presence I would argue again. That Boston has the strongest technology and pharmaceutical industry presence on the East Coast. I would argue we we are on the East Coast we have a thriving university system. Business friendly political incentives and attractive tax economic EC I say Boston. Is guy number one. Number two and number four. I'd say were weak in terms of transportation. It that's my opinion that we're Wii I don't think we have a really great. Empty case MBTA system baker roads are terrible. And and we have terrible traffic I mean go 11 eater at the mass like its toes Jeanne. But I mean Atlanta's got way worse traffic than than Boston does. Take a look at it grows down next they have no public transit from what I understand Atlanta has some of the worst traffic government radio. I didn't know. But how would you rate as compared to Georgia in terms of being business friends exactly I mean you really can't compare Massachusetts to Georgia in terms of business friendliness. Guy acting. To me when I looked through this list raced just present thriving engineering your right we we had both of those we have the strong technology. The transportation hub with major growth potential so I think Boston. There's a pretty good here in comparison to the other used as a pretty good job with the the MBTA in comparison to Atlanta rally DC. And Austin Boston you know is probably second only to DC and bucked. They have no growth potential in terms of their airport and I think that is a really really big issue for. Right there's not gonna get anything conquered in there that's helpful. Boston's got to rightly runways have got no room for growth over there at Logan that that's a real tough topic. I'll tell you Raleigh, North Carolina might be sleeper that's the only they're on the list is a survivor series apparently that the five cities on the list are Atlanta. Raleigh. Washington which I think it's terrible choice. Boston and Austin, Texas. And if you rule out Austin. You know they don't have the school system and the they're not on the East Coast right so I then you're you're really down to Atlanta Raleigh. Washington too successful. And in Boston. And I I I still. I think Boston still in the running you see it coming up we're talk about. College student enrollment is on the decline how cup that's next from the funny to us. And now full mostly watch a look at the market's performance so far today thanks to Barry and jog right here on the financial exchange radio network. It must have been about 3 in the morning. When we got that tsunami warning. And I was watching the market futures this little boy here we go this is if this is the Black Swan event. You know at one point Michael they were saying that you know it all though the West Coast and British Columbia and Alaska. You know the it they're gonna get hit by the tsunami not so much sweet down you know and dad markets are about flat and ignited next right now doubt is just about flat recipes a little bit nasdaq's up pretty big. A couple stocks moving today whirlpool. Maker of Jenn Jenn air Maytag guy kitchen aid often been news about the new tariffs on now washing machines that stocks are up nearly five bucks a share 3%. After Evan a pretty tough 2017 and take a look at their stock price has been pretty volatile for the struggled to keep up with these Korean imports. And then also Netflix which I will dive into will be deeper waiter at Netflix up 11% on the single largest quarter subside subscriber growth that they have ever had in history so at the calendar still losing money there kill and they are but their growth is just tremendous it's you know it's a very different business but it reminds me growth that we sell Amazon took them long long time to turn a profit. There were eighteen point eight million college students during the fall 2017. That includes. Undergraduate and graduate students sounds like a lot but it is the sixth consecutive. Year. That the total number of students has been on the decline on a year over year basis. So trying to think. About the long term effects of a declining. College student pace. Yeah you know I and look at this and I think about it with kind of mixed feelings today you know Ari you don't like to see a country becoming. Less educated you know the jobs in this country and in the developed world in general are only going one way which is requiring more education not less. But it does seem that we might have hit a little bit of trade you know over enrollment in in college institutions you know we had a lot of people that may be did not need to be going to college. For jobs that really didn't require it and so maybe this is just reverting back to the needle. Do you think that a lot of this decline is coming out of the for profit schools as is about five years ago via that they were exposed. And some of them not all I want to point out that some of those schools are darn good I knew a kid that went to. The ITT technical school for each BAC and he's got a tremendous business now and any heat that that's very what school. But he might my point is a lot of those schools we're scams and government funding. Started to dry up and they were exposed as being scams some wondering if this decline. Is largely based on the decline in the east. Scam operate which which is not a bad thing. It like it if we're not scamming people out of their money at that probably you got. The I've I don't think that's a bad thing I think you've hit one of the issues I think maybe another one is increased enrollment in trade schools. As we have a real yield real shortage. Electricians plumbers and trade workers skilled trades are just really really drying up here. So I would imagine you've got a number of people him going in that direction and then when I mean just generally sentiment ready talk to. The average college graduate who's you know just graduated last year in carrion 203040000. Dollars a debt there's just some negative sentiment about going to college it. I've I would say it's you know really since the financial crisis you've seen. Tucker Silva explained to me like Jimmy pure drop below is getting. Playoff bonuses for the patriots now that he played for San Francisco will simply traded him. Yeah but still he was on the use on the football team through the entire first half of the season so he was a member of the patriots. And you know his original contract that he signed said that he would be paid those incentives for making the playoffs making a Super Bowl and then winning the Super Bowl so I think he can. Walk away with if they end up winning him walk with close to 200 K. In his honeymoon on the roster so a lot of left her with an automatic. Is he a free agent at the end of this year technically yes but I'm pretty sure that the 49ers are going to be extending them. They do's and getting him like a long term deal yeah I just get him I honestly think she could be one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL. And but he put how many games did he play for Cisco I think it was five or six team at a playing in the took him they went five and ones and like that. Arm Syria so is this this is day this is money related to his contract as he also did it. Because you get as a player don't get money just for winning from the week for winning each game. I believe us I believe you dude that's an awful incentive as well. I'm so I don't know if that's Nixon did the Jamaica or upload 200 K number that I throughout their bond yet you know life not a bad gig for not being on the super more Australia was gonna say you wanna know the answers to why is getting paid its dues and earned an agent. Yes same mud on the same agent as Tom Brady's. Southern ago. If you're hard worker and you've created a successful business I've an important message that it helped. That business thrive and grow and talking to you now. On behalf of the US Virgin Islands economic development authority. I got to stay alone for these are quite liked. Why would they call the Super Bowl pick Iggy has ever been in Minneapolis and I'll. I've been twice I've been in February. And I've been in July and it's really nice in July. It's not nice at all yeah Deborah white what the I thought the Super Bowl is always completed the weather. New Orleans and Southern California and Florida it war why now why would they have the soup people. In Minneapolis high up or don't know they've got an indoor stadium. I don't care yeah good at this audience and at some point. Well I mean the answer there's been you know hundreds of million dollars on this new stadium has tried you know has tried built into incentives like hey you guys go build this brand new NFL stadium. We'll give you Super Bowl the next few years and that's probably stats might yes I don't you know I don't know it felt that sounds likely yeah I'm pretty sure that's a first year this stadiums that I makes an awful Lotta sense I'm sure that actually that does make sense that was built under the contract. So would do the talking full package if you wanted to buy tickets to the game. Stay in a hotel her two or three nights. And flying hole what do what do we look at ten and fifteen Ingram you know apple. I'm looking at roundtrip flights if you wanna go to non stop him from Boston looks like your only real options delta the round trips lights are starting ants in over 11100 bucks just for the flights before. You know we talk about hotel. And I haven't looked at my bad is that the cheapest you can get if you want to be somewhere you know within Twain out of stadium. You know you're probably looking at a minimum 250 and night. And and tickets. I checked on Sundays this is gone back a few days now the cheapest that I solace that the 500 zip from morning hearing on terms of in terms of the hotels in the area it's kind of similar to. I guess the Super Bowl in Jackson little word hotels are kind of hard to come by there and if you do come by him it's like the basic hotels you know the best westerns of the world something like. So that might be a problem. Coming up here. And just build some big news that video imagine if Minnesota had been planes. Yeah they totally choked on. Austria and it was him closely give up 38 unanswered points so I would say that's a joke absolutely. Well like AAA estimated amateur cost free to drive out some Minnesota if you wanted to drive from Boston at first it's gonna take you 21 hours without any traffic and your gas is gonna cost you about 355 bucks. That doesn't include any you know depreciation your vehicle for driving how many miles from here in Minnesota and India stopped for food and everything like that I think it's horrible. Location. And it had nothing against our friends in in Minneapolis that means he wanna have a you know summer there that's when it's real coal in this yeah I guess the forecast was right around nineteen degrees coming up. Every day so that's early you know it's too early to be at that that would be a warm day talker. Don't really and and the wind the nine notes and indoor stadium to the players are gonna have to contend with him but you know as you if you wanna walk outside getting your taxi. You can get blown into the next state. Just. Yeah you don't have we. Indeed part you wonder if that's gonna scare away fans deserve going to be don't want to walking everywhere not a chance you don't -- bands links I mean is New England in Philadelphia which are used to I mean if you had like a Jacksonville vs saints game maybe Padilla and yet he I mean it's a lot colder many campuses in Boston trying to provide day I think via an area and you got two huge fan base is hugely loyal fan base markets in big big markets and it doesn't do really well on this I wonder what sort of records for viewership. Well you never thought because Philadelphia's big mark. Or while they're both play top ten markets in terms of TV. Doria I was Austin I think Boston's five and Phillies seven something like that. To TV markets big TV markets at and a lot of people around the country will watch just a hole. That the patriots lose that's right the amount of hatred. Towards the New England Patriots. Is is reaching all time highs bring on the hate bring it on just it just be absolutely. EO we don't see this week we read the New England papers but you know pick up a paper Al west to talk to somebody. It talked to some B and Indianapolis and talk to somebody in Michigan talk to somebody else they despise the new. Patriots I was gonna I was gonna say you speak for yourself I have all of my in line I'll my wife's family's from Chicago Indiana Minnesota. And Denver elegy to the I'm sure your real popular in the most hated member of that family I mean the nerd infinera not to get too much and him but the narrative on the national perspective from this past AFC championship game. Is that the refs were helping the patriots this past and it which is worse complete cartridge I mean that's owed just jealous and he fully are such was the patriots and winning winning. I'd say if you want to see it at goods dialogue. On one. The patriots. Take a look at called Howard post Jesus and Cecil and posted yesterday. And he basically. You know dismissed all of those myths that your reference to death. He in Egypt in very professionally days and he's not he's a pretty unbiased. In Ter he's not a he's not Bill Belichick game right now but he he does he's very good sports commentary. Justice Ginsburg. It coming up. Hi this is chuck and Mike here from the financial exchange and as we head into 28 team Micah wanna talk about one of the key themes 2017 is that and that was the disruption by technology companies. Lot of major industries. Yeah it's true you know we talk about the Amazon effect it's not the only one it's certainly it was a huge elephant in the room so if you take a look at. In their activity in 2017 alone you saw the large purchase of whole foods markets which was you know a very very big disruption to that overall grocery industry. Obviously Amazon and a lot of tech companies they've disrupted retail at this point but now we start hearing about other sectors that are potentially in the firing line so to speak next year healthcare travel all kinds of areas the potential clear risk yeah I mean you really do need to keep an eye on the Amazon effect we talked about retail obviously a Toys 'R' Us is in bankruptcy proceedings Sears JC Penney Macy's all really struggling to keep up and now you're right gathers rumors that that were flying around ams on my interest in getting into the pharmaceutical delivery business which who knows how to make an impact that's sort of industries so you gotta keep an eye on it you always got to be wondering about what is the Amazon affect what is the Google effect and how are they going to change the investment landscape for 2018 and beyond folks 2017. Obviously was a great year in the markets but you do need to be prepared for what's coming next and so Armstrong advisory group is put together this great guide titled 28 team the year head it is free to get in all you have to do. We're joined now by Mike McNeil from seeking office and talked to us about Starbucks. You know I haven't taken a look at there's talk a little bit I know spend a lot of my paycheck there what are you guys take on it right now. I make devoted to meet you. Well actually Starbucks in 2017. Did and do well it would very bad year and it was the 3% while he's at market was up by 21%. One of the reasons why it happened is because I think our Brooke is suffering from the 82 didn't and drug. Meaning that investors are always expecting more from it and now I treat war. Written you grow in America and that is not high enough about they're always expecting a number that we are we've been used you'd he'd make double digit growth. For we're about it and now is slowing down the US economy. Though this is one of the reason why Barbara right now might be a by. So I mean it it seems like in your points at a key issue here they gave kind of saturated the market racy Starbucks pretty much everywhere. I'd be attracted to what seems like you know. All of the customers that they're going to find at this point what is their real avenue for growth and they'd looking more internationally at this point. Yes at the moment for it be US art I think it will be just you know I gas cap machine. But then they're looking at a Chinese market which is. Huge and up into two other that are on companies like McDonald's example that are out there Schilling double digit growth over there and even their comparable sales are at an 8%. During the last quarter. And they are expecting. I single digit to double digit again for this border are now on Jerry when it. I. 500 it EU's doors in China. I. 600 this year and they now have beer and all her yet it like they're down. There are needed attention will be on the license over there yeah though I think it will be at a meeting market and you know what earlier in that it is from now it all he'd be eager to end the US are. You know that the leader said that McDonald's has surprised me right when I think about Starbucks I think about it expensive premium brand that usually do pretty well. In a good economy like this where's McDonald's I usually think if you know holding up pretty well during a recessionary type environment but you're saying Reggie seeing a lot more growth that McDonald's that we are Starbucks right now. Yes we are one thing with me none of that all investors are very happy they are very excited about Baghdad they're going would franchisees. I think debt. Starbucks. A big advantage over McDonnell and and you know that you know going after the coffee industry right now. That we are about and membership program they are able to get you know they're I'd go up more in article evolved and as. How he article even in the US. Shall earnings growth profitable growth because they're acre per transaction is higher than being Internet now the they are able to improve their food offering menu. So people are not just going there for their morning call feeder going there for your lunch break and then. If you were played tonight you will go there beat up a running or something you forty the don't so they are trying you are currently. During might be this low moment of the day now they're getting that other people and. Inch well I've searched a tape might appreciate your you take on Starbucks ticker symbol SBU acts. Right now trading at 61 dollars and six cents about half percent today thanks for joining us Mike. You look at. What's it what's it cost to go in and get. Whatever it is you drink. Tucker what do you buy when you start I get a coffee. And that cost about for medium and it's like to reader form like someone like that as does it apply the cheapest you can walk in and out of there from a small coffee with taxes virus to box. It and in most you can walk out of there with you know a fancy large Gaddafi is like yeah. What if you wish you lots of the east gate. I don't go there for a launch I go there and you know I did a Burke sandwich you know they denied Jesus 395. But yes at that and coffee woody seven bucks for breakfast and maybe a little bit under that's a poem someone I think really start out competitive advantage where they beat and Wales to marketed their technology their online mobile ordering date the information they have on their customers far. Far exceeds Dunkin' Donuts that far exceed McDonald's I think that's the competitive and but I don't see him having X acute on earth. Why we need is going to come b.s for a buck in I don't Miami company's near me personally. This is the coffee that much better I would audience depends on your opinion. I think it is better. When your drink and six cups a day like soccer and if you don't want to you know six cups economies. Well. Hey coming up in the next hour we're gonna talk about company. Higher litre. And Mike one of the biggest things that investors need to keep in mind this year are the upcoming mid term elections that are going to be held in November and the effect that they can have on markets both over a short period of time. But also over longer time span. CS certainly there's always uncertainty when you head into election years we've already seen some early elections that took place in Alabama New Jersey Virginia those have been giving us some sorts of indications of what we might see but it is largely unpredictable so we'll have to take a look and you know see how that impacts markets or how hypothetically could impact markets leading into the end at 2018 between ninety. One of the things that investors need to be cautioned about is is heating conventional wisdom that certain election results are going to be either battered good we saw that twice. In 2016 with both breaks it and the Donald Trump collection markets move the opposite way of what people expected. Right yeah a few you know that your listeners Talking Heads on television every once said about Donald Trump went for a C a huge market correction what happened Dow futures traded down overnight and then we're up the next you know really the next twelve months out with wrecks that you saw quick dip over about a week period then and made all that money back up very quickly so it really depends on the situation. This is the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and chunks of you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world stay in. Formed and up today to promote economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and sharks done us. Three big stories. Which which we will begin today's show one. Is related to electric boat they are hiring and literally hiring thousands of workers in the next several years. Second one little scary gentlemen I know you cheated on your wife it's a blackmail scam it's. Demanding payment in it when and then third will be talking about Netflix and again. That company is just. To train barreling down the track tiger but it Berrian might with you here on a Tuesday morning. We'll start off of the conversation regarding electric boat the president of submarine manufacture electric boat delivered an upbeat. Outlook on Monday telling business audience is business audience. That hiring is up and more sub will be built in the growth and site will house new buildings to handle the increased work. This according to Hartford current good news per region of Connecticut good news for us state in New England that has really suffered the last. When you're thirty years. Yeah I know they really have their down ground Connecticut their expert and hire 12100 workers in twenty team which you know on its own that might sound pretty small number when you talk about that area. That they're in ray you are not talking about the city of Boston government authority. Small town type area were going to be adding 12100 workers just in twenty Tijuana and that number's only expected to grow. When they have a difficult time recruiting. You know because a lot of the engineers at their recruiting. You know me not want to live in this New London, Connecticut area and friend of mine does that work and today has a heck of a tough. Because he's competing with companies it you know might send them to CD California and Virginia in and so they're competing with that but I. The job date they're hiring me had. Some of easing number's up it's use 81000. Applications. For 3000 job openings so. These are will need me factoring jobs some of them or engineering jobs are really well you know good engineer good mechanical engineers can make a lot of money. But even Tuesday somebody who's entering their apprenticeship. Programs. It vacant twenty when he went bucks an hour to start off. I'd be very it's the C of the sixteen yours are the 12100 workers if there you know they're they're looking higher this year what percentages highly skilled. Engineers you've got years of education under your belt. Verses in it more entry level title labor that be rearranged to see those numbers look like and the two pride and have a tough time hearing on both ends well here's here's the numbers they've got 111600. Workers and grow and connect. 4100. In Rhode Island and the employment is expected to grow to eighteen house and like 2030. Electric boats and thirteen ships are under contract in yet to be delivered with eleven under construction in ten more submarines in the Virginia class. Are expected to be contract next year so it's not something where you're goal and two New London, Connecticut news and have a job for the year two years five years. Chances are going to be there long time and you gonna learn tree that's that's the thing they're gonna EU. To teach you how to become a well it teach you how to become a commercial painter there were. I literary you know variety of trades and tremendous opportunity. And you know it's not far from Worcester not far from Springfield not far from Hartford. You can get there and and it's in and you can buy a house in that area effort to 200000 dollars by a nice house. So on the water it's in his lifestyle but. Yes just you know it's not where a lot of people want to the big draw these days living close to one of the big cities nudist. You know you probably won an hour and a half to two hours from New York good two hours from Boston you'd. One of those attractions. I know you'd cheated on your wife it's the latest blackmail scheme him. And they are demanding payment in the cooling to eat this is. Something. You don't talk about. And he married men it is that's up there and talk about but it's a scam going on across the country SO. Basically simply went there male boxers number of people with their mailboxes and gotten on the letter saying. Evidence the cheated on your wife. And if you don't pay me 2000 and up to 8000 dollars and eight point. You know then I'm going to send letters to fight and her entire fail. That this is what happened and you know and I'd be willing to guess you know if they sent out 5000 of these letters. You know people made sure that you know people may. I guess you're supposed to alert the FBI. You know that the problem comes. Maybe you're that guy who did cheat is in your sit there and oh I'm I'm busted. How to how to like get out of this and and two grand might seem like a small price to pay as opposed to. Happier assets via there you know there's things list pretty affluent areas and yeah it's just another area where you look at. In the use of these crypto currencies repeatedly. Pretty frightening right this is really the only practical use these days again there's some small applications here and there were legitimate companies use them but largely. It's used to hate things like black. What is it going trading it in the past few days so. Keep to keep. Is curious. Right now 101682. Holes holding up better than it about it. I know X continues landing customers this is sort of a great surprise to. The added eight point three million streaming customers. Global. And they beat the expectations six point three. With surprising to me is that they continued to gain subscribers in the United States where I thought they might have already achieved saturation evidently they have now. Yeah but I mean noted I don't think they broke out that eight point three million streaming growth weather came from domestic or outside the US they just. In total they grew by eight point three point. You know why you say you're surprised by this and I'm not all that surprised. I think there. If they're getting a bit stricter in terms of how you share your subscription so it's not as easy today you know logon mom and dad's Netflix subscription anymore. How come into my kids to but you have to you have to subscribe there at one in five years if you have one of those ones and only lets you subscribe to one or two places then all you have to upgrade yet you now to pay more for that's description if you want. Several several people to be able to use it. And date quite frankly to come out with these blockbuster shows. They do have pretty good content. That's the thing that goes on said it ended does it talked about it. A lot of that Netflix content you hear talked about in the office the next it seemed like whenever I didn't want something like you know news stranger things or whatever. There's another hit show that just keeps coming out series after series at Sears and they've been nets. I've heard of a few more coming out there are going to be at Stoops. It is it a generational thing because I'm not sure how much my generation watches Netflix and when I talked to my friends. It's not people are crazy for Netflix but when I talk to your generation. It seems like Milan heels are likely dot Netflix and watch everything and Netflix Purdue's I find a lot of it to be frankly crap. It just it's a T get dumber by watching like that's how I evaluate program he actually Tucker I went to see a movie. Watts. I. What movie. Jumanji matter we're ultimately expect so I went and watched it while urging them. Okay ago I I what I wanted to see you know what was worth I think I've had a 76. Percent rating and a tomatoes. And you know it is with the kids movie. Yeah so it's it's a all these years of not going to see any of resolutely human and you go NC jamaat event around Joseph told me several that it had a good raw tomatoes and it does for kids. So my take on Netflix so your your right it is really mainly appealing to younger generation today but I you think about some other you know big companies that have eventually dry on an older viewership I mean think about FaceBook that was a you know when it first came out you could only sent her FaceBook if you had any college you know dot edu email address. And now I think. News seniors. Outpace. And millennial. The a chance to keep up with their grandchildren. And their kids if those kids are even on the problem is. My grandchildren bright never beyond face my grandchildren price beyond. Snap chatter whatever you know the next wave of technology is and that's what you're. The debt that's where a lot of people my age they wanna see the kids and it almost wrecked by you know its its interest they were Netflix. There's a lot of competition out there ray you have Amazon you have Hulu but Netflix is just seems to be light years. In the stock is just helping head I mean this is a company that Disney. Could've bought several years ago for a song apple could've bought now it's a darn expensive it's a hundred billion dollar company applicants for. They could but hey it's in and maybe they'll buy it look like fools community they could abut this and and people were telling them like five years ago they didn't you know. Microsoft about this five years ago we anything about all the companies that could've acquired Netflix five years ago. And chose not in line and now disease trying to compete with them. The the big will have a competitive advantage in that they have so much content library is huge. Portly error Netflix now has 100 million subscribers. A 110 million subscribers while at the end of the fourth quarter Tucker the anatomy that 110 million. Item realizes that that's pretty remarkable. And then there are competitive advantages there you know they're producing content world why they're making shows that are in Brazilian Portuguese and making shows that are in Spanish. Today you know to really appeal to viewers all of the world. Some of the stuff that they die from the BBC is very good but I I watched some of the stuff they buy. And I frankly like some battle more than their own Rachel aunt but it. It's it's just that it's it's a fascinating company. There are a 110 million subscribers that means there's 110 million households. Paying them 101213. Bucks a month and then how many people are using nose and other. 300 million you know you think about like on my account I think I've got the Macs account and I Knoll. It's all used by count I was still losing money and vote. There coming up we're going to be Jolene to buy and Alexandra sewage to talk about technology titans that is next from the financial. Deep cover story of the economists this week is. About competition in the digital age how detained tech giants we are joined now by Alexander suit asked. Talk to talk to us about this article and you know an issue that we've been talking about this program for years now about the growth of these. Big tech firms and when if ever they're going to be faced by Ian some sort of anti trust issues. Well trailers and yeah. So would you like kind of just laying out the landscape forest today and really you know how it looks today vs say 1015 years ago in terms or tech environment and you know what these companies really look like. Check I think accord the biggest change that we can notable annual as they read that comment. From the Internet companies they work founded Google exactly it was accounting principles don't be evil by. He always companies are trying to buy very optimistic found ours is spot there companies would make the world a better place and now. Bit the mood has concretely shifting it and I think that people all. Consumer is policy makers regulators are very concerned about how the Internet is actually not bringing people closer together back. Driving them apart. We have some on this week in the economist I read our member to attack executives warning them of the rest and it's. Tech is an industry that like Akron man and we proposed the new one which we say is. Baskets that the charges against tax today. That's firms are being. Accused of being too big it would be anticompetitive. But it did and damaging to democracy. And you know we can we can go through all of those but. Bashing tactically you could very well amongst popular spaces in the wrapped in America as well. I meant I think that in in addition to that and that anticompetitive behavior that I think is real and we can go in case. On date tax treatment. An image problem when it comes to populist politicians wanting to legal attempt powerful companies. Yeah I agree with you there and I see you know I can stuff we see the argument about anti competition the date in this you know the democracy issues. But at the end of the day you know when the regulators are looking at these things their. Yeah of trying to say have been harmed consumers can you really at this point can you say that about Amazon FaceBook Google or apple. In it that the Greek police. The deepest free services and tell a lot. Antitrust enforcement. In the last decade has been looking try as a Mac checks for him to determine consumer harm it's really hard do you mean in an instance like FaceBook or Google or Amazon. Which are for your lower in price and there is a question and kept. Use these terms have grown organically. And also do very happy acquisitions and one advantage. Things that that we have considered as to whether or not. Didn't the yield that the companies have Straka it's used. Chile Indonesia and whether in the valley elsewhere in America and Europe. On because I think from past the big they're able to attract a rival search results which is. Anti competitive issue and not necessarily good for consumers like Google owned shopping terrible. Isn't necessarily bad error in fact it's probably not and rival shopping services and Google got in trouble. In Europe for giving exactly what I harming competitors. And then it's not expanding consumer interest if he's some promising. Fledgling startup laptop before they can crouched in the charity and I think on the anti competitive conduct where how rivals actually didn't. They're very. Developed of these large companies and then on the acquisitions podcast and significant question about whether regulators are thinking broadly enough about. Consumer welfare and the long term. Can you go back some of those examples of the acquisitions that were made of glass for years and you know what what we've really seen in that area. Source though it historically. Do. From twelve point to their market channel. Two to show that. It even if they're buying it even to talk horizontal feel like even buying it I've racked competitor. On it their market cheered them. Tactically they'll try and pretend you know it's not big deal so an example of app will be wired Google which purchased ways. Would add Google had to Google Maps the digital mapping out very popular amongst consumers Utley is a direct competitor mobile. Not armed and I think now people look back at dialogue with obvious that we had they've been left alone could as. Really rivaled critical capture people's attention and usage Ahmed potentially. Sparked more innovation and if Google actually have to compete. Another example of regulators misinterpreting. Where company was going to switch in spoke acquisition and to grant that pitted billion dollars. I'm 28 while for our what would consider that app poignant very narrow lead a photo sharing app and to show you. How Vera Lee regulators think. That Britain's regulatory group office domestic trading determined that it wasn't at all an issue of our FaceBook to buy into Graham because. There's a lot of photo sharing app at that time could be. None of had started selling advertising revenue is that they weren't competing along business on its FaceBook content based model and to Graham did not yaks. I think our people. A bad deal and make commitments regulators didn't have much match nation about how adopt firm could have evolved into a viable competitor and I think that actually tried to bottle mapped the for three billion dollars on and which rejecting the mountain gone on to clone some of I'll it. Which featured and I think back consumers are probably. Batter off with more choice and having not run in an independent company that's coming up with you like he has been really pushing forward and the patient. And and how did EU antitrust debate is should regulators can agree that potential competition doctrine to when they're reviewing mergers should they look where company is today. Should they try and speculate about how it might. How the company might grow which areas they might portion to. It's a little shakier in terms of confidence it's possible to bring that cases and then of course that. More of those cases are brought and won but that could become the standard bank today it's very narrow it. Especially in America Europe had a broader definition of consumer harm impact expects. In America very rarely can. I've spoken on Richard Herman price specifically. Which is pathetic. I hit. And regulators from being more active and ends in their campaigns. Well it's not really inching few set points here Alexander appreciate coming on the show and talking to us about a BC where these companies go the next few years and how their impact about its antitrust. India and think your time thank you. It is curious to see it bad example of Google acquiring ways is terrific example rebellious. The ways I still use ways preferred over global but the way it would have been nice to have two competitors I don't feel global market. When we come back we're taking a look at whole foods their loosen customers have come. And Todd here's a question I have for you what can be done last minute. To exceed your assets if your spouse suddenly has a stroke and is. Permanently confined to a nursing. Yeah and it's primarily about your home. You know that's the big asset that you want sure no way. Well that bid if you got money in CDs or brokerage account her diaries I mean I'm concerned about all we that's a good point that you could lose because it's all at risk I think that's a point here higher rates at risk CDs or risk your reporting don't terrorists everything and so many people don't think that's the case but it is. So I can tell you first and foremost it's easy for the house as long as the spouses living as they won't take it put the house and her game. Doesn't have to matters while you ease. Right please don't stop there because if you get sick in the house is at risk but at least two dodged a bullet. The bigger issue you're right there is all those dollars other ironies. And really at that time you're probably looking at one of these last minute Medicaid in new technique is even her diary and even for an IRA you may have to pay some income taxes to get to where you wanna be. There are going to the growing. They're going to be called for an Amazon last year acquired whole foods Alitalia a lot of the whole foods. Traditional customers are not happy about the acquisition it'll think Michael that the stores are being. Yet I have to quote that's because it's one of the baby's not be extra funny quotes there. Whole foods customers in Bellingham have been struggling to find English cucumbers and sweet onions in Newton shoppers have been disgusted to realize organ accelerated purchases mostly rotten Pope. There's one more here help Foster noon they'll say your name of the purchase tofu all last week. I hit hits are. Love the the point I make is the other companies should be making hate this you know eat the because like these quoting here I can get organic foods for less money market basket. And that is the fact of the matter is you know people go to whole foods. And I am not sure exactly why somebody would do their regular shopping whole foods because the EU can't. EEK I don't think he can dual shopping there don't you pay such an exorbitant price for three things and frankly the pro dissection. The shot site two has better produce at a bigger variety then any whole foods store for it. Yeah I think I generally. Agree with you there are few items that are so for instance and but once a year maybe twice a year I want you'd like beautiful Buick dry aged every night stay and and I try to from several different places I haven't gone haven't found a really good just standalone butcher to go by this but I've. Found the best one all that so far. And I'll do that every once in awhile but I will not go in job at orphanage regularly. Because what they thought pointed out you know if you really care about the organic stuff. You used the whole foods is really your only option and it's just on any grocery store there may be other than like Costco. Is going to carry good organic products. When I found two whole foods and they do well at least they used to I don't know if they still do well pastries. Early cakes and much better there again your Stop & Shop pre market baskets. These trees there are. Expensive but yet he bought it there for thirty bucks it was a good you know that's and Condoleezza don't you know. Good stuff. Yeah that's it's a big question I wouldn't have thought they were that there would be having you know supply and logistics issues. Under Amazon ownership you'd think that Domingo in the positive direction given Amazon's. Expertise. But you know is this directly correlated and caused by Amazon that position or is it just you know coincidence I'm not sure but you're clearly change and it's it any change in the way to the supply change and it is that it is a function of the Amazon acquisitions. In his son's trying to drive costs. And it's having you know it's it's it digestion problem there their having difficulty. Digesting this acquisition of whole foods because it's a new business to remember the urban and passes in the the there they were in and this is a new business for them and they got rid of a lot of the senior management at him for the left so they took their money and ran. The higher risk for years we'll tell you why. The right now about eat pork eight point 4%. Of our economy is underground. And the IRS doesn't like that that's where I think the the another nail in the coffin of the point is. The EBI are starting to clamp down on going to make sure you're paying your taxes on it. I I've got to tell you the government intervention. Wu Yi to the demise of crypto currencies. More than than than anything else. Yeah I don't know that necessary leads the demise of its but I certainly think it comes in and dad bring perhaps brings down its value for the long term the big concerns you have your mean. Already the iris is answering that annual leave they lose 500 billion dollars a year because on reported wages. Yeah and they're you know they're somewhat able to monitor that right if you make a big cash withdrawal at the bank and then that's reported. In jail over certain dollar amount is reported and it can be research rarest cryptic currency you just can't track this it is completely. And utterly anonymous right somebody writes a check to you you after query every year after. You know record that is a wager at 1099 income because you know that there's a paper trail yep where is this really just has no paper trail. And they you know they put a lot of examples and there ray you know a few if you bought the crypt or currency united and you sold that you should be paying capital gain on. But if you can just basically hide assailed as they now have no idea who owns this thing. It's really really difficult for them to the IRS to prove hey yet you owned this account and this account therefore. Yes you have a capital gain to pay here. Quick message on behalf of leader bank. Peter bank stepped ahead. So McCarty buying it to cue company is a kind of. Strange acquisition AM I mean yes and no I mean obviously they knew they they operate in the same space and what you've actually seen. And I don't. You spend a whole lot of time in bars drinking drinking liquor bit tequila sales in general have. Really been skyrocketing past few years particularly on the higher end of the marketers kind of used to be considered a party drinking anything it's. Very much more being considered a you know super like you would days how we skier burden to our. Run vodka. So here is a little bit consolidation in the record this and you seen lots of it over the years it's not you know it's not hugely surprising not the patron is a massive company. But they've seen such growth here in the United States in North America and particularly. But they haven't seen its internationally and so if you see that similar growth for Q outside North America could be in position for them. You know we haven't talked about Tesla in awhile and a lot of people are down on the companies say you know it's a scam it's you know there. They're never gonna make any money in the company has no value. But dead Ilan mosque striking an interesting deal in order to encourage him to stay on as CEO there's speculation Michael. That Elon Musk Mike stepped down. As C yield to us otherwise and it sounds like that's pretty much coming to an end it sounds like he's going to be on that board for Curry's should be run this company the next dictators so at least at least but most people are saying he has you know all it wants to be running this company. He's doing a pretty interesting thing here and yes you could point to and say it's just you know it's just another one of the marketing ploys roars coming and saying he's trying to do the best thing for everybody about it. Most will only be paid. If he reached this you know a number of these huge milestone is based on the company's market serie they'd have a dozen targets they're all fifty billion dollars or more. And you know it's just. It's huge charge for and hit and this is not how most CEOs get compensated so he's really trying to shape things up and make this company tracked. Whether it's a marketing ploy or not I like utilities doing to them what I what I admire is he's got the guys on the O line. Also getting compensated this notice they have stock in the company yeah see if you're if you're working on the assembly line. For pass out California. Yeah piece of the action so you know it's in your best interest to make sure that that car coming off the line is really well built and you know not gonna give the order a hard time yeah you know. I like it because you know far too often you look at these failed companies and and you watch the CEO walked out with 3800 million dollars and he said. We British company into the ground and he's dead departure new golden parachute and at least you don't have this year Rite Aid must he's gonna make a heck of a lot of money if test the performs if they don't yet know. Jeff animal comes to mind. Looper CEO cause were shot he wants passengers to be able to opt in to a higher quality of service not just a nicer car. But I would tell we were CEO is you've got bigger fish to for a rate. I don't they I I you know that would I would like is a lot of times when I'm getting in and super car. It's after it and on yeah and Ozzie and I don't use it very easily but they look at that as being missing. Most of them don't carry water in their cars and that would be I I always rate you know he can write comments after your ride yeah I would say I would have given a bigger tip. If he had offered him bottled water nothing at Purdue. Yeah I mean it's a different it's different model and I guess they are. They've already started segmenting their services based on you know how nice the car is mine now this is kind of adding some more additional. Weyers. Levels of service here were saying nephew wants you know probably water in the car and maybe control of the music and things like that when you're gonna pay a higher before and I guess that some people will. You know stash of cash for I think honestly the majority uber users from what I see our price strip. That's last argues in the Japanese news of the capture more expensive than the uber app and I said aren't well I'll go through Britain. And then lift becomes were Cheever all tried it becomes cheaper outright atoms that you still feel that way we do go back to a taxi if it was cheaper. Used in most. Seattle I I like list I I like the XP I like not direct call anybody. I can go to my phone press the button and the car shows up by it's like magic I I would I would pay more. For lift than it would for tax here's where irony it's an issue personally can come back from the airport myself my wife two kids. If I wanted to new growth of the call and cougar SUV which isn't it costs them outrageous amount of money or I can go stand taxi line get a minivans and sick sick pay the same price that would have for a sedan. Now. Now you say that's a unique experience it was unique situation us. Coming up we're going to be joined by Sharon Begley talk about whether or not going to the gym helps your brain function. Join us now to walk us through the real science on this and talked is about well does it really help I mean Sharon that lets you mean walk us through the studies have been done on missile bit. I think obviously you can argue that's exercise helps with a lot of other health issues but how is it impacting the break. And and Mike Schmidt helped that the grain right because one of the pulpit is about weapons of cardiovascular disease and the pattern York cardinal. But that your blood circulation and more blood at the brains he would tank while not a good time. And yet you say the ability to they're in. It was 300 studies on what their brains that that the brain and that's an exercise. So what I thought was interesting was that has been part of the olive bombarded with a puppet one trying it and a lot but it is conflicting. Bit. No I don't think that it says now that actually help. So what was interesting was. Do very well respected group. That there are conflicting at god for people on the brain pan but the darkest side and simply American Academy of Neurology which opened up around just to count to treat brain but it doesn't match up. That's for the first time and the Pentagon on that came out on the neurologist should recommend regular exercise. The patient with mild cognitive impairment of course that's usually. What dementia or incompetent now Imus to. But another view pretty equally respected national academies of science and other than that in Iowa. All those that he I think they really did not ask about the new enough so that they could make this kind of recommendation. That when he went to market his particular term that what what each of the groups that you really come up with some interesting ideological split. Well great so he's not really sure where Taylor Green to the bottom line array. Is exercising going to hurt your brain function. The thing that technology argued. That had been made you want my president proud of what can matter. But not really good enough because in fact if you are telling people tend to be older people. Two actor spot while in fact you can do yourself and that you can temperature what you could call that there are some doubt that that and most of them that they you know again. Really like chickens are. But what really is that they make comments that might is that these. Studies looked at whether exercise. Can benefit a rain but the older and that has already shown signs of decline. And really the bottom line there is the president is not sufficient to say okay. Start start exercising and keep I think in that the messages. In Iowa we're not seeing much of benefit there. But if there is apparent that it's probably in middle age or younger do not get your you know 60s70s or Alter content that suddenly start. I think to protect your brand. It's something that you really need to pick up when you're younger. Bad news for everyone in this room but thanks for shrine. Appreciate what do this and looks at the science still out on it but deference and inching instant news on this issue thank you thank you. Yeah across an interesting story. About Mercedes and BMW. Rolling out a subscription service for cars and I like this idea because what it does a lot of our. Clients and a lot of my friends arsenal bursts and they'll go to Arizona though that Florida though that it Georges that go to Puerto Rico for the winter. And they don't wanna buy a car as early down there for two months three months four months. And you know renting a car gets really expensive. But what Mercedes and BMW are doing is a subscription service so let's say you fly to Fort Myers. You're gonna spend January February march and April in Fort Myers which is pretty can't we have a lot of listeners that. That do that. You just pick up your Mercedes in Fort Myers and then when you flew back to Boston for months. You couldn't pick up another Mercedes you don't have to drive them back and forth you have to worry about the maintenance and all the other hole you know where I think this is really beneficial for the companies themselves. As you know right now via Mercedes and BMW they got pretty good sales numbers. The auto sales under pretty well economy's doing well people who might shop cast for these. We had a recession and suddenly yet these things are not move enough law answered you can rent them at least get them being used in generating some revenue it can really. I would imagine at least at some support in those tough years Cadillac was actually the first to come out this a year ago. You know I like the idea and I just think about my peers who. You know the big get the heck at a New England when the weather turns that allowed them leave in October November you know and and they don't come back till may sometimes. And that. The transportation is always an issue do you want at least two cars in Florida probably not. At least two cars in that means you're maintaining four vehicles this is a much better waited there. Yet it is it's an inch in table. Bossi with the price the bottom bottom lines helmet how much it cost. Day fiesta paid. You know thousand bucks a week to rent these cars then it's it's not do it now let's start subscription they. And in it's a right to use certain brands vehicles were every happened to be right and that's what I'd like a thousand bucks a month and continues to cars wherever I happen to be. Way I I I know there are a lot of snow birds listening or statewide ticket and is that because it's such a pain in the butt. Because even if you don't drive your car down so he's got to start your car driver around. Keep working day thanks for tuning in to the financial exchange will be back tomorrow with another edition of archer.
