Negotiations to form the German government broke down dealing a blow to Chancellor Angela Merkel and throwing the leadership and direction of Europe's largest economy into doubt. Despite that news folks stocks are rallying hi everybody its variants are with you here on a Monday morning. The week of Thanksgiving in some of a gun at the Dow was an up 59 point. Yet Dow continues to move in the right direction S&P and NASDAQ up as well and really. Looking at this. Chancellor Angela Merkel and did not have a strong majority anyways hence the need to form a coalition governments her party in fact did not have a majority. When we need to reminder that it would they have. Five or six parties over there there's there's about yes six or seven big ones that are you know involved in it in national governance there too nobody gets 5152%. Of the vote coalition government is pretty much the standard and to what we see here is that she is unable to form that coalition. At this point. And so it weaves are in a position where she doesn't have a whole lot of power even though her party does have the largest chunk. Of the German government and so they thought that they had a in agreement that was pretty close over the weekend and apparently those talks have broken down now. And so eight is that some questions as to what they're going to be able to do three governance perspective. Over the next six to twelve months problem is is really no number two speakers is it's not like you have a a strong opponent who could rally the forces together and form a majority government noted that there really isn't you know you you take a look over there. At how things are set up. And Angela Merkel party the Christian democratic union has 200 members in the the higher. The higher parliament effectively. Then you have the Social Democratic Party of Germany which has a 153. Then you've got alternative for Germany 92 for Democratic Party ABC go down the list there's no win in here we sit there and say they're better than an OK year you're able to have to kind of build a coalition. You know to bring this all together here and you know unfortunately. It's something that we seek and everywhere now I mean there's there's not a whole lot of unity even within the two parties that we have here you know we we we see this. You know at the moment it's an exit point you don't have a unified Democratic Party unified Republican Party so. This is the but the reality that we have now and I think a lot of it is just because of the rise of the ability to communicate so easily on the Internet. You have different voices now that are able to be heard that previously. You didn't have just because he only had three major networks and a couple cable channels now all of a sudden everyone has a voice and so. It's difficult to kind of weed through that noise and figure out hey had we actually go backed off and what are her options is to cost snap election. Wouldn't be surprised she goes that route and she said all along she does not want to do that. I wouldn't be surprised she has to go out by you know by united advocates more out of necessity as opposed to out of desire. But you know effectively if you can't build a governing coalition with what you have here it's either hey look we gotta try to pick up seats and and clear the decks or it's time for us to move on. I told you on Friday. That Donald Trump made a mistake. In many if you took exception to that statement as over the weekend he acknowledged the mistake he made. In its related to the three UCLA basketball players. Here's a Twitter quote from president trump now that the three basketball players are out of China and saved from years and share jail. Lavar ball the father of Lee Angelo is an accepting of what I did for his son. And that shoplifting is no big deal mr. trump wrote in the tweet I should of left them in jail and that's what I said that pretty frightening to them on Friday needn't. A few days agree on don't. Whatsoever group that. Charged her in the ninja what if any would you want it I mean I wanna a big advocate the kids thank Donald Trump. If they all individually thanked trop they get and and actually saw and the kids eat president dropped corresponded with. Was named him do one of the kids is particularly great but they just do what. That deal all of our local or more years and that would like to listen to them to pay attention and they are the best of its ease. I mean look he's he's not dumb because he's gotten an awful lot of new promotion or self promotion through was antics and so you know ways of marketing genius in a way he's a marketing genius but he's in the mountain and it's just the look but it's a horrible like you know you're gonna get. You know that they could have done five to ten years in jail in China in what's held for so like that the US the one thing I would have that they fine. He the the one thing that I think he really should have done it in all seriousness I think patient and left them in their for the basketball season technician said. When it whenever your team gets eliminated to totally an American citizen in or in jail well outlawed only a Texan John if that'd been. You or. Fraternity brother he'd still be in jail. But they'd also be working to get him out. That's what the State Department is fours for dealing with these kinds of things it saying look you know we want to have the ability. To deal with this internally and these guys get special treatment I've no doubt they got special treatment. You see this quite often when when people are imprisoned oversees the State Department goes and advocates on their behalf of their release and that's that's pretty common does the president necessarily intervene no. But your daughter Americans sitting in jail in China that the president is getting. So I think he's as a historic and I I ironically he is technology that he made a mistake. I'm I'm always for trying to get American citizens back yes my body in in you look at the who weren't with state -- Ottawa and beer who Ottawa Korea now you know I mean it's like you don't want and opened those situation all especially if it's your kid you know I understand PO said that. At the same point. I would left in the I think you could have would let him this this season that the two opinions are and frankly the school. Should suspend the things they have to have them for the season I'm in indefinitely that they're suspended they have given no indication they're gonna ought to have him cancel. I don't are they able to cancel scholarship because this I don't think so I cannot think they can cancel in the business you see you are you saying you think they'll be out for the season you'll feel it I don't think they'll play the season. You know who would have thrown a mile under your. Jerry York. Why he's done just that terrible hockey. No doubt Jerry York is that he he said incidents with players over the years he throws right now. It is that you wouldn't be surprised it's an excellent I would be surprised they never play game freeze deal accurate is it but you bear the program he did thank you absolutely not image in the country this isn't something where hey you had a bad game and you know did something in the game and punched a guy this annihilate those things are okay as much as their unseemly they happen in games you get excited now just stole stuff in China you embarrass the program on a goodwill trip or your country should not play another game that I can get yes. That's. You know the Korea. And one Oliva citizen. In China. That I am sorry that I'm who now lives now you well actually you can in. You can vote in our poll question that's hurt. Do you think that president trump should have left the three UCLA basketball players in jail I voted on this by the way I was though I don't always vote but I voted yes. And to participate in our poll simply go to financial exchange showed dot com right now the numbers are running 5050. And even even split I take it even though in this room I'm outvoted two to one I take the opinion look he can punch from all you'll once you get back here. But get him home now. The difference between generations now. I US home starts have reached the highest level in a year end. Permits are on the rise this is good news books yet you are seeing a little bit of an uptick in activity in in both of these areas here. And so both new construction in southern states in particular a seventeen point 2% and what's exciting about this is it's actually houses as opposed to apartment. Essex some loose some of this down south my guess is due to hurricane related repairs in new construction so scared out of having you know going and give completely. Tear down houses and put new ones upset that some of its due to that. But either way it's activity that you're seeing now. In its good to see after a couple weak months in there and in you know kind of August and September not really the kind of pace that we wanted a little bit more activity coming on board now. And you know it's something that should be nice little tail wind as we start to head in the twenty to wonder if the contractors are going to be of the find the workers. They will they pay more they're gonna pay more they're gonna have to pay more I'll tell you what I I. Think we are headed towards dramatic. Labor shortages I said this a few years ago and I think people looked at me I was not suggested he get out to the years 201820192020. You're gonna have years. Read more and more stories. About companies with labor shortages and that causes real prob you might think oh that's all good because wages are going up eat it gets to the point. Where are giving example. In western Canada and in the in the Dakotas during the oil boom. You had restaurants like Wendy's and Arby's. On this acrylic 25 bucks and hours to get people in the political. Is that right they close the track the it was so dire. That they they just simply. It is the wage pressure was so high they couldn't find workers at those wages that you referenced you had. You know restaurants like a Wendy's they wanted to open mean we burn to scare actually and could not find the workers at 20/20 five dollars an hour. You're going to see the same thing is gonna cut I'll give you a company that's gonna cause a huge problem for. Net for getting these contract income of a in his. Amazon you are gonna read warehouse workers major labor shortage the fact that they are advertising. With billboard Jim it's expanding a billboard to. How do you reconcile with the growth and automation that we've talked about for some of these lower tier jobs to I think. That there certainly is a case to be made that look at a lot of these areas you might have labor shortages but I think there's a new supply in terms of you know automation. That can come in and fill some of that. Yeah your right but the problem joke is that automation is not happening rapidly enough. To detract from their need for workers and so you know just just think about the the their Everett look. If you drive around New England you'll see billboards. But I am his billboard on the Mass Pike it's against a 1675. An hour like we saw driving out last week 675. An hour benefits. Pension. Over time available. Unskilled what day that that the thing that strikes me is that it's unskilled work look at electric boat in Connecticut right 21 dollars an hour again. Unskilled they will train you to an apprenticeship program. They'll start the 21 dollars an hour they'll get into thirty when you're done the apprenticeship program. They too are having tremendous difficulty filling those job down. It's entity labor shortages you watch and and and we've got. And immigration policy that is getting tighter and we're gonna talk about that lingers well. Part of me wonders just looking at all this you know kind of which industries are able to automate more quickly because the ones that do we're going to be able obviously this is so I look you know fast food nice OK the more kiosks you can get. The more you're able to deal with them but for Amazon. What you've got robots right now that help in the warehouse but they don't do with a war yet in their growing so rapidly yeah if you look at another company a local company. What's that a week fair that the furniture company yes Tucker and think about this. Their revenue in the first nine months of 2017. Up 37%. And it big here last year what sixteen was huge year that it and their revenues were 37% this year says it's just a might my point is the labor. Labor is gonna get paid to the U is a worker we've been saying it for awhile. It's gonna happen fast. And I'm waiting for that crossover point is you are right there'll be appoint the homes were all of a sudden it's. Every company decides hey we have to because we're feeling competition from other people who were raising wages to. It happens quickly. He kind of eliminates a whole conversation minimum wage doesn't. It does when you and unskilled workers. Not filling jobs at seventeen and 21 dollars an hour it's it's a very interest yeah I'm. When we come back where be talking about apartment construction start to cool down a cup that's next from the financial exchange radio network. Trump's administration hasn't passed any significant legislation yet but tax reform is front and center it past the end of the year. Hi everybody it's Barry Armstrong and Jake two Lian we're talking about a program called Z rent this is specifically. Designed. For those of you who weren't landlords in used to collect your checks. With paper checks are gosh maybe still do well zero rent allows you to collect checks electronically. JO hoping he could spend a little bit a time explaining how he grip works and why it's a big advantage for landlords. Absolutely buried so we we develop the rain to. Out of me the whole race yet because right now you know with the landlord when you're getting rain checks. Low unpredictable. Missing envelope the great line mostly waiting you might not get all the rent until the tenth or fifteenth of the month furthermore if your landlord on vacation in your red thing you know what he does is it really teach they'll. It makes the ranked electronic payments and allows roommate sharing there's multiple remains an apartment that's great if you're renting out to college student Hulu. It's predictable it comes at the same time every month. And it's all on me. So the landlords who have been using this as in huge times stating that ointment you are you still giving the first six months free from landlords the first six months or three and then in addition to that. These wanna point out T two new bullets bullet meals millennial that would so I think Mitt what's the word of the day we've been used and along anyway. On our poll question 71%. Of audience thinks that president try option left those three. Basketball players in jail. I'm just telling you feel differently through your own trial of course I would aka what you gotta buy oil out each what you say and parents alike can lock him in my base and less he would shop lifted and reviewers leader Kim and trying to if you shop lifted. Our state and arrests. So it wasn't that bad. It was that why were. What is the deal with link between that in and the thing in Saudi Arabia where all of the royal family gets arrested and is staying in the rich there they quit when the returning to prison. A there's there's something lost in translation that I'm not picking up here because our nose in both of these cases this oh yea or go to jail and then they send the rates. If if that's jail send me to jail yes I mean I got a let's not about the apartment construction complex business the it's. It's slowing down which I think is good idea I think it's good as well. It it. You know only it was well behind but it's pretty much caught up rate we we built up a tick to 96% of our capacity needs yet and this is it's an area that'd be incredibly hot over the last five to seven years for a number of reasons investors liked it because he gave them an area that was still relatively stable Ian. A recovering housing. And the banks with fines the banks and finance at and so it was an area that showed a lot more growth then you know previously had in the amount of construction of particular. In some of the that the hottest theories a look at what's gone in Boston and in the sheer volume of units that have come on the market weather down in the seaport new construction by TD garden and is able to work out. And in and I looked at and I said look who's gonna be shown out 4000 dollars for too bad that they can't buy that there'd been renting. People did a lot of I I was where I said I said that they would never fill them they fill them. But I do think that you've kind of gotten the point where you're near capacity and I'll tell you its its interest in the last couple weeks. Mary we were talking about this over the last couple years now. But I've had three different friends. We're trying to buy places that are under agreement now. And and so it's like single family homes were condos so let's see so one is in a Condo going into Condo one went into a single family. And another one is under contract for single family as well so do single families one Condo but the. So multifamily starts. Our have recovered 96%. Of the ground lost during the downturn. While single family homes. Our only 45%. Of the market recovery so. That tells me that. Your your generation colonials want the single family homes and Andy combat in the and that construction industry in the developers are finally responded yeah I think you know all the talk about millennial not wanting to move that the suburbs and so forth. I think there was a cause and effect problem there I don't think it's that they didn't want to I think it's that they put. I think what happens Turkey's you know you're living in the city. In third floor walk up. And also need it to infants. And it's right it's like look this is work and it's it's not that much fun you know it's it's one thing if you've got a young couple in the kids. But when you got children involved you know the sudden that walker is not not as a drug. The the good news and why you like to see single family home construction. Lot more workers involved in the eighties the you know yet if you don't have the efficiencies that you get when your building you know a hundred units that one yet you're building condos that are all the same. It takes much less labor when you're building a single family homes there's a lot of workers that are in and out of that project. The other thing that I have seen just a round kind of the 12495. Loop is more multifamily going up in places that I wouldn't expect previews. Like I see some multifamily developments towns I didn't think were necessarily get a permit for them. Just a lot of those towns tend to be. You know kind of protective property values and you're seeing a little bit more on the multifamily and some of them sleeping around it with the Hud rules you know they'll come into town and say we don't have enough low income housing yet in this town. And we're gonna bust and they do it and the town's. The our town is gone through it and yet to develop for the one and comedian and put in. 300 units low income Munich yes. And if it's a battle it's a constant battle there that that part of the affluent suburbs space. It constantly. Trying to weigh OK because you have to put on a certain number per year and that's of the towns and yeah doing. The end of saying okay we got away with it for twenty years. Now we're gonna have now and you'll 150 to make up for you know we didn't do your resume on one year typically spread about the you have to commit on that you have to have the development plans otherwise these the in the developers know how to target. In the in the target the talent there's a little four that are affluent in the there and bill they're not delves. Markets are open and we are seeing a broad based rally the Dow's up 74 points. Would you ever spend 200 dollars on a Turkey well no way is that they stated it costs in New York. That's next from the financial exchange radian. Life goes on FaceBook. What was on Twitter. Trading around 96 dollars per share Goldman came out with stage yet they reduce their ratings on. On Wal-Mart to neutral from buy just saying that bet that the stock price straight up they've kind of exceeded their valuation and there investment in the business at eight up at this point it. Thank you put as little bit off the holiday season hedging their bets on you know. Management is performing stock in the pastor. Yes a Wal-Mart with a little bit of a pull back going on today Mattel. Also has been pretty active the last week or so with rumors of a a merger acquisition coming there are up about 2% today. They are certain no. At least no public news that there are so far today and what's going on this acquisition obviously has been talked about acquiring Mattel Mattel which had a really. Tough year. Was as low as about thirteen dollars a share earlier this month they went up a good 40% from those levels on news that has from may be taking them over. There's been rumors going back and forth you know our they've. Bee bopping the to deal with it got a group that you know based on the news today stocks took a 2%. On. No rumors at least that are out there publicly so we see where this goes in the coming days. All right thank you Mike. That's Mike Armstrong with Wall Street watched Agassi economy in New York must be pretty good because they're selling specialty Turkey's Thanksgiving turkeys. That run just for the Turkey folks tune to 300 dollars what do you get for two to 300 dollars so. I look at this in the of one Turkey that is at its eleven dollars a pound and ethically heritage. In does that mean it like it came over with the pilgrims by ran over one the other night on my way home from work disease and how much do you think I get for Catholics which are tired you hit the front right. Those usually okay yes you can usually keep those but the average cost of Turkey in the US is about a dollar sixty pound so initial for eleven but these guys to pay in times as much caught seven times as much I just. I mean I get like we've got you know hamsters in Brooklyn and everything and I know that in San Francisco it's like. You know you can't just haven't organic Turkey left happily in organically organic Turkey go another step you really feel how they live. That's. Mr. I act actually see that here that's. That is a phenomenal quote they are prepared to I don't like the this is actual quote this is from notes if you feel how they literally eating this is from the mad hatter though Cooper this is from a manager at the store who says. You know you have a tasty Turkey you can feel how they live with every doubtful news free range man I'll always fields so that we slit his throat anyways here's something that took a break up a good point that like there is Tucker this is something that's interesting Turkey present first spurt president troubled us. That you wanna kill animal that had a great life and wants to keep living right you want the one that's sitting there saying. Me out of my misery. Get me out of his cage anyway that you can't gobble gobble like. Yet this is the council of economic advisors putting together a report on the cost of the OP your crisis saying that the epidemic cost the American economy. 504. Billion dollars in 2015 which the equivalent of two point 8%. Of GDP now and pretty much the White House economist they said the prior research didn't capture the full impact is only measure the health care expenditures or earnings lost. Not the other activities that may be spin off of some of the work that was done and so. You know he clearly it's whether it's eighty billion dollars a year 500 it's a huge problem. BO we we have 64000 people a year die from openly addiction. And alcoholism is also a big problem with the difference I think shock is that. Somebody who's hooked on all Pulitzer is not functioning easy they're not going to work every day. Somebody who's hooked on alcohol can still function they they can still go to work. Yeah Ed and I suspect. That is part of the reason you see such a lousy numbers in terms of labor participation rates between the ages of 25 and 54 particularly for men it's it's it's definitely part of it and it's something that it is not simply a drug of the poor of the riches to cut across just about every single demographic on whether you're white black. With Tina whatever you it doesn't matter this goes after approval. You know where it's it it's a real problem in rulers I was talking to a physician's assistant over the weekend PA. And he said out on route 91. As the drugs all come up and evidently coming up through New York he said on route 91 north of the pike huge problem. There's parts of late New Hampshire and Massachusetts have really bad problems and and into New Bedford area down south as a as a big problem in that area bigger problem in the rural areas on a per capita basis is that right that it is that it now he's he's researched this. On an ad nauseam he says it's it's a bigger problem. In the rural areas on per capita basis than it is in the cities is a big Brothers at least it. Yeah there's 64000. In three weeks we've lost that many people in Vietnam. And the we're losing that many people to heroin every year. Now it's is that all and it will be more this year it's awful. Six senators to watch as the Republican Party pursues tax overhaul this is not going to be easy to get throughout tell you that. Two that are going to be particularly difficult will be Bob Borger and Jeff flee because they're both deficit hawks and they're not running anymore they're not running again. And they don't have a particularly favorable relationship with the president. Yes we've got the two of them and I know that in particular. You know flake was singled out over the weekend by the president on Twitter and four days or less of flick doesn't care if he's got nothing to lose at this point to the two of them are going to be close to pretty Leo closely watched John McCain was going to be one who obviously is going to be concerned with defense appropriations making sure that near nothing's being cut on that side just in the overall budget now so probably looking to trade some things here you know as as far as the horse trading goes in so he's going to be heavily involved Johnson's a problem Ron Johnson has been outspoken as far as the effects of the tax cuts on past pass through businesses so you make sure that small businesses are treated the same as larger ones and and then you've got Lisa Murkowski from Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine. Both of whom are looking. To not tie healthcare to this bill simply because they've been against the full repeal. Of the AC eight premium and pull that out the Arctic area I think yes the they're talking about pollen out the health care component I believe so and I believe the president over the weekend said that while he'd like to see in there wasn't to deal breaker for him so I would imagine that's probably coming out to get them on. Were still don't have a problem with Susan Collins. Because she wants salt. The spice or known devastate any taxes and and I know you why it in and those of you who live in New England I hope you appreciate this. You know many of view because it there's two things that are common throughout New England with the on the coast of Maine or whether you're on Cape Cod. You live in a very affluent part of the country. And there's a greater than equal chance that you itemize your taxes why because property taxes are high so you we have so many different forms of taxation so. There's a chance that you itemize and you Aysu I don't itemize and just what the increased standard deduction. Well then property values and a decline in a think about and I'm thinking coastal Maine where use spent some time in the summer in tea cod. Upwards of 70%. Of those homes truck. Our old that are second homes. And up in this tax bill goes through. Where you can't deduct the mortgage interest on a second home. And he can't deduct the property taxes on on on a piece of real state that's gonna her property values on the coastal areas and we a lot of coastal areas and doing. In terms of effective property tax rates when you look at the averages across all fifty states you know New Hampshire rates third in the country to rate of 2.0 3% now okay. Vermont is forced to 2.0 to Connecticut's fifth the 2.0. Rhode Island is ninth at one point 64. And then you continue on Maine is fourteenth at one point 43. Massachusetts seventeenth at one point two once all six New England states. Are in that top you know 35%. Is bars. Taxation there most of them right up near the top of the list so New England is going to bear a disproportionately. Large neo. It's a well bear the brunt what the welfare program for red states. The EV distaste that are benefitting from that tax bill. It and they and that's why I think Susan Collins is gonna hold fast I end and thank goodness she will because she rep she's like the lone Republican senator. From the wing that flew right. Will represented well in here's the other thing a lot of the southern states that have little property taxes like you take a look at Alabama the property tax rate is point four rate hold not hawaiians are Tennessee's point 54. They have low taxes because they're effectively subsidized by the northeast states anyway and so. You sit here and say look we really want to be subsidizing Tennessee more merit I would say no. Now it well it in the they're the reason Tennessee is always broke in the reason Alabama's always broke is they don't invest an edge in education. School system's her and not good they're horrible EU look at somebody who graduates. With the twelfth grade education. In high school education from Alabama or some of these. Mississippi is an example and you compare. The state wide. SAT scores to the state wide up SAT scores of Connecticut or Massachusetts public schools in Massachusetts are very in the private schools down south now. And in and I think a lot of people and then and then they don't have the educated workforce which means companies don't wanna go. Right you know the it's it's that that double edged sword. They when we come back we'll be joined by Dan Soto were off from Morningstar for conversation regarding that a mutual fund or an ETF ETF and ETS so grab a pencil paper stock talk is next. Hi everybody it's very are. Strong in potluck ski from the law firm Cushing in dole and we're talking today. About the state and asset protection strategies. That can help reduce or limit New York State taxes. Tut is it true that a merit couple living in new wing and with two million dollars and assets pays a voluntary. Gift tax. A 100000. Dollars in the government if they don't have trusts in place I'd certainly candidate certainly depends on what state and to be live in you know I'll let us say only if if if you if you have assets and you can't each state has their own exemption. You know like the federal exemption amount is 5490000. Dollars you can pass that amount. And state tax free to anybody you want. In any state. But a lot of people say oh we don't have that kind of you know but. What you forget about is the states. A state tax system they have their own system. And each state has their own exemption. Which can range from you know a million dollars to 201000005. Is around here 2.5 million you know and then some states don't have any. State tax the only one in New England doesn't have one news New Hampshire that's correct New Hampshire the only one in the in New England that doesn't have a separate state the state tax. And so the goal is by doing basic estate planning and using trusts you can double whatever that's data exemption amount is thereby hopefully eliminating. Voluntary estate taxes. Up to whatever that exemption amount is double. Request your copy of Todd brand new guide it's called reducing and eliminating the state taxes. Joining us now for stock talk is dance daughter off for Morningstar and Dan thank you very much for joining us. Oprah did we're talking many ETF here's the vanguard total international stocky tee off. What do you like about it. Really yes it is this kind of core portfolio holdings if you look at sort of long term investment portfolio US stocks foreign stocks. This really kind of soldier there or dock pocket and kind of once stopped session it's got. Not only develop market and also emerging markets and a and at a couple other advantages. Really are skewed towards the investor the end of the day. Looking at this point one of the biggest attractions ETFs is typically low expenses where's this caught again. So this is that eleven basis points turnout which is. Super cheap for the category it's that's probably one of its biggest thing is that it's not gonna cost a lot on. And when we hear the words total international stock what does that mean they're actually buying. So it was pretty much everything like Vista before it's not only develop markets but it. Emerging markets but it also expands not only to large cap stocks globally down in order to small cap stocks is also fierce super diversified would respond but I think right now at about 6000 desk docks. And portfolio. Are there any particular areas that are more heavily weighted either geographically or on a sector by set. So overall I think if you're gonna what it. The first words what is tweet developed and emerging so right now it's about 85% or are you 85% of home markets and 50% of emerging markets. But overall it really diversify his very well or prospectors. And stocks. You mentioned that it does have some mid and small cap exposures is still predominantly a large cap holding. We still classified as a large kept all the and that's largely because its market cap weighted towards automatically going to skew to court's orders stocks India in the universe. It what do you get on something like this up from an income perspective does that produce anything meaningful or not a ton there. So it's not gonna produce toxins out focus on income but it does have a higher fuel in the US. This one comes and it about it 2.5 percent you are now. But compared to the US which is all under 2%. Looking at who this fund could be a good fit for potentially is there anyone who you say hey this is something that you need to have an airport foil. You know it's it is really. Could go for anyone looking to get international exposure especially people who were government started out probably have a lot of higher allocation towards stocks are not an. Very defense position right now you know. So really it's anyone looking for foreign exposure that her sported orange docks particularly young people were relative to stocks heavily. Any downside or anything that someone needs to be aware of when they're buying this. It's going to be a little more registered in the US so you don't expect pool that higher volatility and it just comes from foreign exchange risk but. That's just some bad. You know it is apparent to any reports about on. All right very good day and we appreciate the time and thank you very much. Dan Soto were off for morning start talking about the vanguard total international stock ETF the ticker on that by the way. Is VX. You pass a part of the logic there would be utes less expensive than domestic. It is it's a lot of those indices what you're talking about you on the develop markets under some emerging markets right now. Are cheaper than what you see in the US the US has been. You know be in too heavily largely largely because it's the most stable place in the world still. And there's a premium towards that stability it's a case where investors have said. Look if you know other parts of the world have questions of Brazil's economy is going through problems in Europe has shown slow growth. Hey maybe we don't wanna go into those areas and so we put our money in the US. But with Europe starting to turn around some emerging markets starting to rebound as well it's a case where investors may look to these Ayers and say. If he's if it cheaper now in there might actually be a little growth company. Let's let's assume you put a 100000 dollars US dollars into that investment yup and the dollar then rallies 10% yet what. So that is a concern of the dollar gets stronger and you're holding an international holding. You do take on some currency risk there you could see some of the stocks could do those foreign stocks you have might do very well but he gives them in the currency but conversely if you those stocks do well in the end the dollar goes down you make double. And that's kind of what's happened this year if you look at some of these international indices year to date this fund is up 21 point 55%. And if you compare that to most popular US ET a pulled SP why the S&P 500. That's up fifteen point 52 how much would a retired investors say or seven years old in in you've got maybe 70% your money invested in stocks how much. Of that 70%. Would be invested outside the US probably ten to twelve you know in that ballpark. The Dow is up a whopping 88 points at 23446. Oil prices. Are pretty stable there did that 55 area 5564. On oil gold down eleven dollars an ounce and silver. Trading down 39 cents and it's. It's very chuck and Tucker from the financial exchange radio network. Mike one of the concerns that people have out there right now is that geopolitical situation can you talk a little bit about whether or not this is something people should be concerned about. Well I mean. Always be concerned about it especially you know it it seems that we've got rising tensions going on in North Korea I don't like forcing out of Russian China but the important thing to just keeping your back your mind. Is we always have big geopolitical tensions whether you know whether either gulf war over the war in Iraq and generally speaking the market is pretty resilient that doesn't mean that it won't react to some unexpected events. But don'ts do don't base your entire investment these it's just on what's going on geopolitical scenario with these situations. The important thing isn't necessarily to react after they happen but to be prepared in advance absolutely and so you know as that goes. Make sure you reviewing the objective observer of your portfolio theory is this a retirement portfolio that you know can be using for twenty years. The hits against General Electric just keep on coming a group of Japanese businesses and doctors. Sued. General Electric. In Boston federal court on Friday. Claiming the industrial giant was reckless and negligent in its design of the reactors and related systems at the core. Of the Fukushima. Nuclear disaster in 2011 hi everybody it's Berrian shock. With you here on a Monday morning. And the hits just keep on. They do in this this lawsuit to being being dropped today. Obviously represented new risk Ford GE shareholders held and GE stock is down on this news today they're below eighteen dollars a share now at 1790 once down about one point 67%. On a day. But the rest the market is up about a quarter percent went with time this lawsuit was filed because I don't recall seeing it on Friday I think it was you must now late Friday lately it must've been and I'm not sure now but obviously GE stock. Struggling on this news here. And look I couldn't believe there's any merit to this or not I'm on a nuclear physicist I don't pretend to be I'm nowhere near Smart enough to be able to handle that kind of work. But obviously. This is a a another issue for GE here. And I don't know how big claims to potentially be but just another thing that they have to we'd welcome it was really bad the stock would be down with the deficits that lead out effectively the lawsuit is claiming that the G years actors. GE reactor suffered from entirely foreseeable flooding in resulting nuclear meltdowns. And pretty much saying that the reactor design should not been used in those areas. Fisherman. Are worried about a reduced lobster catch in Maine next summer. American lobster fishing is in the midst of a multiyear. Boom. Not in Connecticut not in Rhode Island not Massachusetts. But in Maine there's been all of its been great. In terms of harvesting. They've cut more than 100 million pounds of lobster for six years in a row. But now fisherman say they saw much smaller catches this summer and in some in the industry. Believe the catch could be as much as 30% off this year. Yet and so obviously the pets numbers are no little bit troubling for lobster man but beyond that. There's and demand questions as well because of by the change that we talked about couple weeks ago. Where the the candidate EU trade deal now is cutting tariffs on Canadian lobster exports to the EU. And so the thought is hey maybe the EU start using more Canadian lobster right post to Maine lobster and now the one thing that is probably still going to be. A major tail wind for. Maine lobster. Is the continued growth of Chinese demand okay. Chinese lobster demand if you go back to pretty much awaits only 910 years ago there was zero Maine lobster exported to China literally none. Today okay. About a 120 million dollars a year and it's being exported and that's rising about twenty million dollars years well so there's a growing demand for Maine lobster in China right now and that could be something that helps keep. The lobster men afloat no pun intended but remember Canada has a very favorable trade relationship with China. Yes so obviously it's it's something that you do have to to look at and I know that lobster men you know have said hey were a little nervous about where things are going heading into. When he it's a big industry it's it's a big industry in Maine you vote totals mean as a lot of men and and within probably that make their living in the lobster business. Wage fair needs a home for 101000 workers that it plans to hire ticker you think about it see you guys are both married now. How many items show up your house from Wafer. We have about it you have to. I'm actually I I will be buying a couch. On where affair this week because there's Black Friday so cheap to use it's I noticed David saint sales this week so we we need a couch so I'm gonna do beyond normal weight fair give a friend that works there at a that unit he can use their employees to skateboard. Now well where are really let it happen this city works there. I don't know antiquated way affairs big magnet for Dartmouth students. Huge match for instance 3500 workers just in the -- building and media credential added their loaded right now and in their looking to bring on another 101000 over the next three to five years and and you know this is a company to Boston based originally and they are. Continuing to grow right now the revenues up 37% year over year to 3.3 billion in the first nine months of the year. There's still not profitable as you say they're following the Tesla model. Of course Amazon of course Amazon can at least you know that they're not trying to build electric car from scratch there and that they're really following that Amazon model which is taken we scrape you know profitability once every six to ten quarters just approved had they done that well I don't know they they that's where they want to go. They have not been able to to this point. Way fare they're younger accompanied them they're only what 56 years old I know they're older than that they've and so they originally a company called CS and stores but okay that's what's right and they were found that once it was like O two world three cut. An oath to. Go to turn the and they changed their name I wanna say in 2013. Maybe somewhere and with all the. Strikes needle is he liked you look at companies that world you know and and and I remember we used to marvel. At Amazon because they're growing 20%. Wait fare this year just this year guys wait fare has grown by 37%. So here's my counterpoint to. So was Amazon. And Amazon's doing a 170 billion in sales this year but we kept hearing that Amazon was get in this does gonna get in this business they have they have and equally fair while they're not. If they may be eating somebody's life but they're not even wafers truckers here by the couch. Yeah wafers I don't I did look on Amazon was it pure price that you decide to go your way this is how much of a difference like fifty bucks towards 400. Holy crap yeah I mean the cells right now Wafer are ridiculous there's a 400 dollar difference in the dash out of you yet now. There's a really don't know I don't know about the quality that's the thing is I don't know yeah actually worried and if you don't like you send it back. Now quote he's good I bite my daughter used age for an extra hole I bought a TV stand from them saying there and in a Rogge. About a TV is a pretty good rug right that the TV stand is good it's got a couple little cracks that. I don't love but they're hitting so I don't really care too much the rugs been great and they I think the the perspective that we fair taxes. We better make you decent quality because our return policy is so relaxed. The they don't want a lot of return what I will tell you know I don't know if you've experienced the stalker on both of those items that I got. It's not to date delivery. On one of them we are back about two weeks the other it was about five weeks until was delivered mail men that that's an issue when the the just keep this in mind stock the sales are up 37%. Stock is up 90% this year. And there is a rumor circulating. That Wal-Mart will buy them. We'll buy away fair why I Wafer non and its intent on not the ones starting government the scissors and this is a rumor circulating throughout Boston. Wal-Mart to buy Wafer and I don't know for strep but it's the type of thing would make sense that. You would look at needs a seat wal mart's tried to improve their digital press and a little file of that no pages were about the routing them. Well the the new guy at Wal-Mart who's young and he's what 3230 not yet he's like the 33 years old he hired did you go. Guy and left the mall you know the Nike he's. If you do the same thing. I would be on board adds I worry about the Rooney way fare from his like again that the company that they're still growing their. You know they're not immature company now but they're machine as far as their growth and you know and I just worry that if they end up. In that you know pit that is Wal-Mart in that bureaucracy there now I just worry about getting Swansea where they Wear it while market helped them track is in terms of buying power. Yes absolutely it and obviously distribution like they've got a huge leg up then they can learn something about distribution rate they could combine somehow or maybe have yet take care of the way fair distribution I think Wal-Mart would have to pay an arm and a leg for the known as five billion dollar of it is but it's a 90% this year and so you sit there is shareholders say OK for me to approve this deal going forward. We think we can continue to grow this way now you've got to give mean you know it's not going to be 67 dollars share it'll be 9000 dollars unity that thing about way fare is. It's going to get with they're losing two dollars and 33 cents a share you see ask yourself okay well can they borrow money not real. You know the land it the Gannett tough time selling bonds they could issue more stock. Which had steel glass quarter that's deluded that they did that last quarter. And eat Wal-Mart comes in all the sudden you've got your bank partner right you've you've got to the Wal-Mart buys way fair all of the sudden they've got to. Five billion dollar line crash so looking at where at no cost and looking at where way fare is right now that is one of their things is they have cash flow. That they're taxed on hand is enough to meet probably the next six to eight quarters in that ballpark they they're in better shape than tussle but not much yeah. That it I'd agree with that in the end at some point you have to make a profit yeah. Medicare part B premiums will be jumping 23%. For many retirees next year that's not far away folks that's January 1. Medicare part three B premiums jumping out of it gets a big bump and so this is for the the 70% of the Medicare part B enrollees who currently paid. A lower premium due to what's called the hold harmless provision. Their cost is going to be going from 109 dollars a month up to 134. Which is the standard premium and the reason for this. Is that because there is a cost of living adjustment to Social Security mean at 2% for next year movement that effectively allows. Medicare now say OK now you're getting that cost of living increase. Furtively the Black Friday is just four days away but we are here now. Just couple days from Black Friday and joining us to help make the most of your Black Friday shopping experiences Mack ran it the deal guy. For YouTube deals dot com. And Matt thank you coming on. They can on that part of my annual tradition at the pocket I think giving a talk about that one time like. There now we were X rays and I was saying before the break I said this is the best segment that we do all year and so I am equally excited for it so let's let's start with the good news if you're making your list of kind your top three deals that are out there. What do you see coming down the road. It popped three deals this year. Number one is tied to the iPhone even though I'm an android guy I'm just going to build this W that I would. You know apple Prussia you can cut your costs by up to 300 dollars even. Cellphone plans tied to these little like T-Mobile for example of a provider doing buy one get one UW must respect. Boot second flexibility that they got or is overpriced any lead us. Would possibly be a pair of 76% off and told them as the people 150 bucks. Down to under 48 that banks and I think tied to the pushers of getting rid of headphone port. In our own a lot of people realizing that all their tech for the holidays might wanna out of her episodes ago with pepper tablet laptop eat and a third of that television bit busy year television what was out in clear and basically. All the places we saw last year tied to 1080. TDs this year. So pretty much if you're in the market for TV like how much are we talking will be able to save on TV's we talk like a hundred bucks 200 bucks what what's the ballpark. Would you mind which is unfortunate for Black Friday a lot of the retailer actually build third Eagles and the products or Black Friday. Well irrespective of them are bad for the wounded no specific hundred box what you've read because they created the limits are we in the media itself for Black Friday. I can advocate good message if you're buying brand name you're gonna cut your cost by thirty to 40%. And if you're not following one of those television up traps which is. They under equipped them UH MI port and terrible processors. You couldn't get an awesome as sixty inch TV. In the low 400 he can benefit you know 300 than you get a forty in the 200 really. Absolutely we're talking Smart TVs with good backs the key that was sort of navigate your way around these so called pork busters. We're just what it is sealed the pressure you'll wind up the storming out bully and a commander equipped DB to begin. What are the Albert the red flags to look forward to your someone going in whose inexperience on the tech side is there any way that you do like a quick guide as to what what's a red flag there. Absolutely if you cannot pronounce the name of the television and you have never heard that before sort of art is not the latest and greatest on the market. There are some off brand development for example like video which would be like had agreed to be brand you put maybe Anderson only serve. Maybe the tide chart yep we have that under LG or Samsung great great television. That you'd know that if you do not recognize the name and you see the process or so all of television have refresh rates and overthrow listeners know that. But it EC sixty Hertz rather than a 120 or something higher than that. There hurts. On the television a lot of good I was in the process basket picture sports will be auctioned sixteen good speed though it does not do much on a refresh rate. The movies watch out for that and a few people trying to put anything under 1080 they're pushing technology from twelve years ago. You're not jump on a TV got a 720. What about we've got a lot of listeners who either have but children are grandkids they're trying to find toys for an I always find it to be just a huge challenge to buy toys for anyone because I don't know what's cool anymore. Any good deals out there as far as our toys or presents for kids. Absolutely and the sort of they're gonna hate me forever that that they right now but I would advise him to look at the Tories do not shop Black Friday. And possibly do not shop Cyber Monday the best way people drop the first week of December. And another thing I don't want to mark their calendars for specific date these simple what is the big you wanna pay attention to. All of my credited that drop on that day and I promised all I don't know why didn't he already built it somewhere. That's a box of the hardest all the toys and stocking stuffer or box which I think. Sixty or seventy dollars worth of often it is going to be under thirty bucks with delivery in time for the holidays. That's pretty good what you're talking like 505560%. Off on something like that. Absolutely I think the political bus on packaged this actually really quote lasted a good one that was put together by. Nickelodeon and doctor who's wearing the other that you bet it is one of the items at a party run through and test it and I can tell by the patterns produced what about split stop you really don't wanna buy it just yeah. Is there anything else that consumers are better off waiting a week or two to buy other than toys are all the Arab is that is that kind of the one standalone. Christmas decorations that you can really robot you know it'll pay off but a big way and the other thing that I would you delighted you've you're not desperately needed. A coach that have been made by North Face or Columbia because they're running big Blackberry last I felt. I would need a little bit longer. Again petitions will pay off on anything that's what they also don't buy gift cards. Although buy one get one promotions and the reduction pact to get credit they are not a Black Friday phenomenon. Sort of appears Cyber Monday that much closer to Chris. That question and a half where and I don't know if you dig into this at all we always hear that millennial they don't want things they want experience is there any gifts as far as you note travel bargains that people can get around this time of the year is that not really you know something that we dig into at all. Ought to question there are many experiences that I think would go very well with a gift card to an airliner with a brand of your choice. But if you are looking for specific white or packaged discount that include all sort of in some but I think that could climbing packaged nicely. Most major travel agencies online and sort of not the airline with a travel agencies and web sites like Expedia that. And could be indications dot com she could be a dot com they all run Black Friday and Cyber Monday failed that there are given that you brought by a federal Monday. Not willing to do what I mean they're very redundant between both occasions. Very good will Matt we appreciate it as we do every year and I know our listeners do as well thanks again for coming on and happy shopping. No it's an honor don't let that statement with your Thanksgiving everything anybody else right now. Outstanding thanks again I have a great Thanksgiving. You know granted the deal got the YouTube deals dot com one of the challenges you running in to deal he he's talking about weeding tool. You don't November 30 December 1 up to buy those pulleys where your grandchildren. You may have to my experience has been you may have difficulty getting them shipped into. So oh wait that long by experience has been pretty last year I had that the experience where. I want us opted to delivered in I'd say well it's not going to be here until December 20. And son of a gun yet to December 20 they said all while we actually take it to December 20 indeed some of the staff didn't get to meet until January. And these are things that I was buying these are Christmas gifts I was buying for children. And they weren't under the tree I'll tell you what I've I've started doing now is I've effectively. Given up on this year and I start buying a year in advance. Yeah that they knew miss what's that bird if your viper your grandchildren you're missing out on the stuff you. Have to have this year. Hi everybody it's very Armstrong and plot what's key from the law firm Cushing in dole and we're talking today. About state and asset protection strategies. That can help reduce or eliminate your estate taxes. Todd is it true that a married couple living in New England with two million dollars and assets pays a voluntary. Gift tax. A 100000. Dollar to the government they don't have trusts in place I'd certainly can't be certainly depends on which state and to be you know I'll let us say only if if if you if you have assets and you can't each state has their own exemption. You know like the federal exemption amount is 5490000. Dollars. You can pass that amount. And state tax free to anybody you want. In any state. But a lot of people say we'll have that kind of you know but. What you forget about is the states. A state tax system they have their own system. And each state has their own exemption. Which can range from you know a million dollars to 201000005. Is around here 2.5 million you know and then some states don't have any. State tax the only one in New England doesn't have one news New Hampshire that's correct New Hampshire is the only one in the in New England that doesn't have a separate state the state tax. And so the goal is by doing basic estate planning and using trusts you can double whatever that's data exemption amount is. Thereby hopefully eliminating. Voluntary estate taxes. Up to whatever that exemption amount is double. Request your copy of Todd brand new guide it's called reducing and eliminating the state taxes. Baby boomers are defined as people who were born between the years of 1946. Of your born in 4647. Year old boomer. And if you're born all the way up until 1964. You are a young boomer. End to. When they retire it's expected that they will need 650000. Dollars in their defined contribution plans by that time when they're ready for retirement. The fact of the matter is they only have 263000. Dollars of their well below their needs for retirement. In that average I think it's pushed up by a a small group of very good savers there's an awful lot of people fuel to the median numbers. The media in the most people out save to somewhere between about nine DO 120 films. And they're not ready. Nothing that they're not and so what that ends up resulting in is either a people who need to work longer you know the not retiring at 65 they're going into their seventies in some cases. But also you know folks who even once they do retire. They do kinda have to drop down there is standard of living a little bit might even keep part time jobs in order to try to you know keep things moving forward. Well there are also one of the first generations to have a decrease. In here longevity. It meaning up. And as loaded the story the number of deaths per year rose one point 2%. From in the years 2014 to fifteen it's the first year over year increase since 2005 so habitually hit historically. Americans who have lived longer right here and advances in health care unit improvements in diet and environment. Boomers. Dying younger. The wrong way. They are and India's number of factors that I think play and that number one is the open you're crisis that is absolutely something I just have. That's tends to be younger no it doesn't there until I see people in their fifties and sixties that are are dying of us. So icy that is one thing is just get the added stress of the financial crisis yours you know that I have no doubt that that was. Something that probably caused you know a fair number of heart attacks we joke about things like dep heart attack stroke the stress that built up over time we'll caregivers of Tony is that. That generation. Was more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol another generation's problems came in with some miles on their body anyways yeah they peak peak drug use was back in the seventies. In Korea is too late late seventies is when. You know drug of abuse when it was at its peak in its decline in now I know we're talking about the open to a crisis that. Generally speaking it's been on a decline for the last forty years the other thing that undoubtedly is playing a role in this is obesity. Yup we're we're bigger today than we ever have that you don't know I let us via for forty years ago the obesity rates were near death to the obesity rates for seniors and pulled him up right now just get the exact then numbers here. But it absolutely is something that has you know picked up when that what that does to his deep terriers to quality life. The aid because you might still be alive qualities like this horrible yes this is so stop smoking. We've just fat instant smoked a bit of a better is keep smoking obesity rates for out people age 65 and over if you go back to the 1990s. Or late eighties and early ninety's it was about 20% today it's about 35%. Yes we've almost doubled that the amount of people who are obese and retirement that's absolutely something. It's playing a factor. Yeah you know Cushing and Dolan during the month of November. Is making available free guide regarding drafting tips for your Medicaid income trusts. That's at. More disturbing news about American society. According to new data. From the video giant Netflix. 12%. Of Americans who watched television shows or movies outside the home. Admit to having done so in a public restroom and 37%. Say they've watched it work. We find time in a public restroom to watch Netflix live your boss. He's your boss know you concerned about that in the bathroom to be honest I wonder bosses are blocking that website from there. The beer or course you can download an expert VC don't need like yeah there's no really blocking Netflix is if you did and you could just caught up in your small mobile device pretty much and down and watch on the head you would have had to downloaded at home them. It and you just. We circle back to this Netflix in a public restrooms yeah it's that's bizarre the first of all like your sound is carrying into the other stall rifle and and tell her dad phones Casey's set isn't caring and the other stalls. You're sitting on the toilet for 45 minutes watch house kartsonas. In a public restroom that's that's the best that you could figure out to duty they get another job I think that's where I think your home living room as a lot cleaner than a public restaurant just my opinion wouldn't like you couldn't find anywhere else to sit like not a park bench or something like that relate. Oh hey I just found I mean the mall and I found late at chair to sit around you whipped into a restroom stall to watch Netflix. That's right irate enough for the rest we got some problems here now you know anybody that drives the Chrysler Pacifica. I don't know no major problem with these mini games. The shut off while your on the I want to factor that they it's like this guy is it's in the New York Times C there. Beef sold a 156000. Of these things in they had multiple instances where people are driving down the highway at seventy miles an hour. The car shuts off. And power steering is gone. You're you're you're on so yeah you're you're you're an injury north of route 95 and the darn thing just craps out points. Let that happen in a car wants let's got to terror it was because I ran out of gas I kind of got journal that's if all of a sudden the car stuck you know go to incidental what's. Oh that's what happened but yet this they've had fifty occurrences of this. That have been enough reported by Chrysler Pacifica owners and they're not entirely sure what's going on with that there's generally called them and they haven't been recalled they haven't had any no crashes or injuries fortunately but somebody's gonna die eventually you have someone who as when these when they're coming through an intersection or something and they get you know dipped just black and so what matching your on the highway in your in the left what in the middle lane and you can't get off the road. You just two miles an hour some ignorant. Oh yeah it's you like eats it's not good says this is a high priority for them to figure this out. But they still don't know what's causing it and then on top of that Honda has recalled 800000. Odyssey. Minivans because of seat liked to know nobody dying here. But there's something defective in the seats and these are model years if you own. Odyssey between 2011 and seventeen yet taken in for re in this kind of thing that actually can cause injuries because what happens. So the latches that hold the seat down art are blocking properly. And so what happens is if you stopped short Betsy just folds forward and potentially throws the person in his seat in front of them from. Not good. Good good so tell us about this new vehicle that's being designed it it's by Ford but it's for government officials and police and firefighters. Yeah absolutely and this is the special service organized effort today. It's the first ever plug in hybrid vehicle or. Can burn. Battery looks a little small seven point six kilowatts it's only to go what twenty miles. Yeah actually go about 21 miles per hour. And then once you know the 21 mile that thought they are seamlessly over treat gas and electric hybrids use them. And we see this as being ideal or recent fire she's detectives administrator personal and government agencies. They can use that type of range. You get detective for example go out there and make the rounds and come back in and start wasn't the 1000. B zero fuel and natural missions during that hampered. OK so it did the thought is then when a fire chief go under the fire it's not going to be more than ten miles one way. Right he goes to the fire comes back and plugs it in again and uses it for the next trip. Yeah pretty much just yet and that accounts yes exactly. But if he does go longer it has a gasoline engine that can take them a thousand miles if he bought more gas. It exactly right to drive across the country in just a yes or Opel. So is this the is this is a new vehicle for Ford. It is earlier this year we revealed. Please respond or hybrid sedan which is the first several options rated hybrid and that is a compliment to that. No cut. So the how how many of these low William manufacture and where the enemy made. And will be made at our facility in Hermosillo Mexico where we'd make the sister vehicle the fusion and then it will go to Chicago for better to have. Special report on so please use at our Chicago modifications that are. So what are your expectations for this car how much will it impact sales. Well we think it definitely gonna contribute. You know that is based borders vehicle Wall Street rated vehicle with that in every eight. Ya and I would think it adds I think the EU and you guys have a pretty good share of the law enforcement.
