This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chunks of you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day you're sick leave your world. And stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. Well for the first time in seventeen years we are going to experience. Lower gasoline and oil prices than what we had on January 1. Of 2070 hi everybody it's very truck with you here on the Friday before war. Well I don't know this arguably the biggest holiday of the year. Oh it's it's the biggest holidays everybody all day of the year then one could argue Thanksgiving in Thanksgiving has its pros but. I don't know fourth of July 4 jaws my warm holiday off its music gets. Good as it gets well it and we are gonna head up the lowest gas and oil prices we've had beer lower prices at this time. Now for the first time in seventeen years in what I find than usual but that is we're doing it with a dollar that has been weakening over the last month. Yeah and it it really just speaks to the glut of oil that we have right now. In the continued lack of a draw down on your inventories continue to see inventories building. We continue to see increased production in the US in particular. US production coming on line faster than most analysts suspecting we're now putting out. But nine point 35 million barrels a day that is up 700000. Barrels you know from this time a year ago so. If you take a look at the curve of US energy production. You know kind of started off you know in the in the early two thousands ramping up to about nine and a half ten million today. Came down to about eight and now we're bouncing back up pretty quickly. I'm hearing about speculation that a lot of the OPEC countries are gonna start cheating on their agreement to me they they just can't stay end. These the low production levels and that there are about starchy met with that struck are we headed back into the thirties is right now Republican net. Crude oil trading at 4520. Brent crude at 4760. Gig that you do you think. That cartel holds up through the end of the year. All I can do is hope that they're going to be short side is that likely to be because if they are in they do start cheating on it look as you say all the time. You can always sell that barrel oil once once it's out of the ground it's not something like copper Rican melted back down every purposes it's not like gold Rican melted back down in turn in something else. Once you've pulled out of oil out of the ground. Once he gets refined in the news. It's gone. You know and and for consumption ye keep hearing that consumption is the problem all we're not consuming enough well well. For consumption was still up globally 900000 barrels per day. Now it doesn't sound like a lot and I guess he hit on historical basis it's not like a lot it's less than 1%. Growth in consumption but I think that's actually pretty remarkable when you think about. How many alternative fuels were starting to use we're using more natural gas. We're using more solar power warmly using more hydropower re using more wind power I mean nowhere is that more. An example then on block island right block island used to create. You know tremendous amount of electricity and it was all with the oil right now they're producing it with wind. Yeah and in I'll tell you it's you're going to continue to see. Stagnant oil consumption increases just because the transition not only in the US but we've talked an awful lot about China which is aiming to have 8%. Rather mandating 8% electric vehicle production. By 20/20 so you know you talk about what we're going to see in the future. It is a world where oil. Is not going to be the dominant. Means of producing transport fuel Halloween and new aero where we should just assume that oil is gonna trade in this forty dollar range. I don't know if I'm ready to commit to something that well okay just because I don't think that what you're seeing here today is necessarily sustainable for the long run. I don't think you can see prices above a hundred anytime soon is it fair to say that OPEC has been neutered. He's the the air power has been diminished you know that's it's an interesting. Way to look at it just because. Historically OPEC they they were your swing producer and is they have the cheapest and most rapid means of adding production to the global oil production right in Saudi Arabia still represented to attend 12% of the global production exactly so you would think that would be enough to dictate the price. And I was that that's how I was trained I thought all Saudi Arabia is gonna decide with the price of oil's going to be amateur if that's the case is we're bumping up we're getting close to. It what do we have to about nine million yet is that the second wave of the fracking boom what you've seen in the last two years where the cost curve is bent down significantly. And you've gone from somewhere in the range of 7080 dollars a barrel for that to be profitable. Down into the forties and fifties and I think there's still a little bit of room to run down into the thirties and forties and we have an administration that is saying drill baby drill right English. And that you know you play but keep in mind the kinds of it drilling that they are encouraging now. Are not the kind that are gonna make a difference on the scale in the short term you're you're offshore is still gonna be far more expensive that's it's it's not cost competitive. In a lot of cases especially when you start getting into your real deep water situations okay. It really is going to be your onshore fracking in things like that in you you can encourage all of drone you want Canadian oilsands door cost competitive. And it's just because it's such an intensive process and we haven't figured out the efficiencies there. Talk about being cost competitive. Keystone Pipeline. I think ever got built I don't know we need it you know this this is interesting this is something that we talked about when this administration was coming in in my stance that time was. Look you might. Get things approved but it might not be needed now part of it is he's covering the Obama administration had it been approved I'm not sure they would have built the it's it just is a project that. Was probably right at a time back in early two thousands when the wind that kind of oil was coming down from Canada and mass quantities and so forth today I don't know. You know I don't know if it's if you don't like 2000. 56 it would have been viable yeah and and and right now I tell you the if if your question you say are buried early talking about the build he still tournament. They might. But I tell you what the banks won't lead them the money back tilt finances and the banks you know the debate spend a lot of money researching these bats that's that's what led to my original question truck or weak in a new era. For low oil prices the fact that the banks are same note at keystone tells me it. If we let be sitting here forty they call a fifty dollar has vacated at bill that it fifty. They need in Italy for keystone to be effective. Beattie. And it cannot get navy I at least that there's only on the horizon. It tells an immunity and trans Canada who was developing the pipeline they already took a two billion dollar write down on the project last year OK so. You know it they've spent three billionaire meg our call as readily there investors are already given mart they are and you know people's available you know we could use the pipeline capacity TransCanada if they thought they could use the pipe like that it would have been built tolerate. You know it's ironic easy unity if you get that would build what we need our Nat gas by ports you needed that gas pipelines and you'll also need. The ability then if you wanna start exporting more Nat gas need to continue to build the LNG export terminals there's a big one that's coming on line I think it's in Virginia non this year and there's another one that's gonna be down in Louisiana. So you need to get people out on the West Coast he need to do you get that stuff that China's cheap. Personally I like the gulf is with everything that you have coming through Texas he can get that down right in the kind of that Baton Rouge you know somewhere down in that area. I think that you that's easy pipeline there West Coast to make sense to so got to get something is you got to figure Long Beach is a pretty prime location that he so much traffic as it is coming through Long Beach in terms of cargo that will be a prime location for one be tough to permit. Always hotel carried around California that I mean. Keep in mind the other thing you see with any time talking about liquefied natural gas the LNG terminals and the security that's required around them I just look at what happens massive both think about what happens when that ship have you ever seen the LNG tanker come when it would have come on the Boston they shut the entire Harvard down. They've got four helicopters escorting the thing in a bunch of police boats and even when it leaves even when it's empty. You still they they shut the Harvard down but they come through they fly a bunch of police boats through there and clear the whole thing out. Yeah what's ironic about that night ironically she's just let let's talk about stupidity. Mean we could build the pipeline from Pennsylvania. Two New England right another pipeline yup a big one young and that tanker doesn't have to enter Boston are knowing what the risk associated with that. A that they did all of the studies show that if if there ever was an attack on that tanker and blew up route 128 we can get waterfront property it but it literally takes out the 128. You know buy property in Natick yeah there's going to be waterfront ya know my. Pay what's happened to your cell phone bill AAD I I haven't looked at this in a while. But there is a price war going on with cell phone bills. Anderson competitors here that are trying to undercut each other you can benefit from it will be joined by Ryan Nixon from the Wall Street Journal. There are strong here and I'm joined by Jake to lose a vice president and leader bank and were talking about the housing market the housing market as you know. In short of supply. Long on demand and Jake for first time homebuyers. Would. What is your message to the young couple hours just somebody's out there looking to purchase their. First time home. Yes so you know for first time homebuyers what we are telling men are a couple things one be patient. You know we we see a lot of first time homebuyers who are making five and fifteen offers two for fighting house now and offers except it's extremely. Okay. And so they have to temper their expectations. Oftentimes they're they're paying more than other half you. Paying more than the asking price and a minutes is quite common right now in and in some cases they're actually having to to research other counts and rooted in. Consider first because. You know I can't afford their dream home exactly. I'm getting we're telling first time homebuyers to really be aware. Of all the mortgage products that are out there that are relevant to tell us about this leaders thirty yes who we are really excited about this product we just launched its cult leader thirty. And essentially what it is is that fixed rate loan. Where if you sign up to pay your mortgage automatically electronically that everybody does that first year. You get to lower your interest rate payments by one person that's very. Helpful offer because what it does is gives you great during that first twelve month period exactly so gives you little payment relief for your moving expenses that you still have the security of a fixed rate mortgage. Stronger it's not. Bringing you the best in business and financial news every day this is the financial exchange radio network. I'm. There's a price war going on in the cellphone business and that's good news for consumers. We're joined by Ryan newts and from the Wall Street Journal to talk about it hey Ryan how are F. Good oil at. So what companies are involved in this price war vote. AT&T Verizon sprint can you mobile that horror. Remaining. National wireless carriers. You know it and how much of prices come down since it went went to the price or start last year. What is the press were actually began at around 2013. Sort of bully away. Regulators prevented eighteen you from buying T-Mobile in 2011. And as a result of that. You all getting blocked. Eighteen he had to give a bunch of money and it wireless airwaves to. All bought back and helped restart the fourth largest carrier they were. Struggling they're losing customers and they did this big rebrand the cauldron of carriers that are doing away with contracts all sorts of things that really. This surge stealing a lot of drivers. Brentwood which struggling along and then they started rebounding and that they are cutting prices dramatically like between fifteen. A lot of this was happening kind of around the fringes but. Very recently particularly in the beginning part of this year prices have really started started to calm down a lot last year sprint had to have fought off her. Recently they get a promotion where they're giving customers. Free year of wireless service that it switched while. And so I'm government data that they had track sort of the average price of wireless offers. Has found it in the first part of this year it's on by about thirteen and over a year ago in part that's driven by the fact that. Present any. I've returned to unlimited data plan should they are considered a much better value there were attracted I ask. But it's really a great time or people to think about switching. What do you do the right now DED there's a tendency to get complacent right I've been with AT&T for years and trucks at Verizon for a long time you get complacent. So do you. Call and just say it likely is that the game what you put fuel cable bill we call and say you're gonna switch even though they're not going to. Yeah that's definitely helpful I mean that you're you're absolutely right it's really difficult to keep track of all the different offers and it's so complicated because. They up its own plans are a complicated you don't really know how many gigabytes you need to point. Well you're looking for there's so many offers you know you're thinking well they're actors and you can linger advertising is probably not really what you're getting. But I spoke with a lot of consumers and erratically that that's actually happened to me just just so happened by chance while I was a prehistoric. You reached such a Verizon and other cost of the expert about just some random killing question that was under related to the price of what we're paying him they would come back and it by the way I noticed that your older plan. They're doing upgrade to unlimited Gator Q and upgraded its planned to give you an extra kick about it gave him a month that it and dollars a month cheaper one coach Greg spoke with it was thirty dollars on it I'm moving up through I am and had more data. So there's there's a lot better operas now on a lot of it comes down to just preaching get your carrier and look I know you have been cutting prices. What better deals can offer. So it's it's in everybody's interest regardless of what the you're with T-Mobile Verizon AT&T your sprint to make that call right yet you call up and just say. Hey yell what can you do for me or should I call your competitor. Yeah exactly what I would recommend is that people look at their bill he would they're paying what they're getting. And then go to other carrier web's second book with their offers aren't you look at even you know where your own. Carriers offering an intricate components that look I see that. You know I'm paying this much a month for this being gigabytes that you got to offer some of the cheaper switch. That plan and they should do that no problem and if they don't then it's definitely time to start thinking about switching because. Care in addition to cheaper prices carriers are also has. Some offers out there about you know paying off their remaining balance on your Smartphone. Or the offering you. He's Smartphones and cases. I expected there ramp up even more the iPhone comes out there's always a lot of aggressive Russian. You know there. With the how much money does the average American household since ban on cellphone service per year. At the first half of tweets he it was more than a thousand dollars I think around a 1007 dollars at which it. Quite a bit more expensive than it used to be obviously. About ten years ago. While. Compared with about ten years ago people are spinning out at least 7% more on their wireless bill. Obviously people are cutting. There landline but maybe they're making them the difference there was a roll call phone service good. You know the cost our phones cost of these big game plan has become a much. Burton household expense and it's not really something that's easy to avoid if you don't have. Cellphone if you don't have a Smartphone and and FaceBook you know it's hard to park it in the water on that they've become much more as it. Ryan what the impact these these are all publicly traded companies to T-Mobile sprint. Verizon AT&T how's this impacting their profitability. Well for Q mobile it's been great because they were such a laggard for such a long time and suddenly. They've started adding customers aggressively it would turn around their business they've done quite well. It's been extremely painful or the other carriers Verizon at eighteen you enjoy it for a very long time just stealing customers from. Pretty awful only. If you are increasing their prices increasing their profit there's just overnight and Betty growth. But. In the last you're AT&T and Verizon have had a really hard time in fact. Bratton. Lost drivers for the first time ever in the first quarter. Point seven. And revenue growth is starting to really declined part of the issue is that. They've fattened the majority of people in the United States have Smartphones are ready so they're not really like. You grow you know there was a time when you were signing up. Hundreds of thousands of people you know every single quarter because people were moving they're getting its purpose for the first time merger years earlier they're getting it felt for the first at the bell. Everybody has won and so it it did this become the fight over you know shrinking pool of customers that are up for grabs so you know as a result they're just I think. Better. Better more aggressive guilt. There room for is there room for four carriers or do you think TV is a rumor going around T-Mobile sprinter in emerging would they be allowed to merge. All that this is it's going to be a really interesting question to you if the deal happens power regulators could use this because. Big companies argue that this is not really sustainable you know were beating each other up in word and word losing money as a result of this and so therefore. Production have enough money to keep investing in the network and adding more coverage to keep up with all the demand because of course streaming more of course of course on the cost money that. But at least felt powers like that. Firm can get other consumer. Pricing point of view I mean that is one of the first times early effort that prices have come down as a dramatic way and yet state has won the most expensive wireless plan in the world by many measures. And so it's a real win for consumers this is the burden for people on there and the other people are paying us has altered that though. How long do regulators want this play out you know you want to go long enough to where maybe prices or a little less Burton. Boomers but you don't want to play out so long that in the company's interest financially tough situations and they're not investing. High speed networks there was going to be a tough question triggers. It got under the Obama administration. They were very clear they want it for carriers because they felt that type of comp the pitching was good or that industry are good for consumers because it would result of it is coming down. Republican administration has a little bit more open. Two alternative argument which the argument people make it. There were struggling companies generally. There's a huge market share imbalance if you let us merge. We will be a much stronger competitor in fact these have been a more damage or pricing cut. Got to be able to consolidate their dead both those companies are laid with enormous amount of debt it would improve the quality of their debt. And therefore reducing the interest rate on. Exactly right we could get out they I'm running new break but thank you very much and happy fourth of July to. All right I would like to ask all women to not pay attention to this next segment and just even still tune in but don't do what we're about to talk about. And MIT graduate. Has created a new kind of shampoo. That's worth a 110. Million dollars to a tough little bit about the shampoo. Not really interested now the army here no I don't. What would women around the goal will be interest in this. You know what this company is doing its company called function of beauty. And what they're doing is they are allowing you. To create a customized shampoo and for your specific needs to depending on what you wanted to do. They will add custom ingredients and and so forth maybe keel in the green her back. I don't know if anything can help that I need a lot of help there that's that's not a problem for shampoo that's a problem for. You know whole team of scientists pretty much what this company is doing. Is their allowing users to go in and say here I am trying to wideout got curly hair and it's too for his commute to be something that helps with the phrase. But I also wanna to las smell like this I want it to do this also wanted to be here to be shine and in so it gives you the ability. To customize the shampoo your individual needs an interesting idea I like the idea obviously I have no use for this I have not bought shampoo and. So I reds starters I read the article on us you know a given play and we'll talk about it during the show. And then I was looking through the personal stuff costs. If you're customize your shampoos going to be some expense to a and I usually pay. About four dollars per gallon jug of shampoo. At BJ's is filming downs without maybe it's corporate product they'll do a lot. Television crew to go away it in the rookies to buy in Pathmark the east is by definition posts and now maybe maybe but it's. According to a big. To lead the average is if you bottle and every day. The other ones riff who bottle appears to be 32 ounces so this is a quarter of the size and his 36 dollars to 32 ounce once it looks like they generally cost between three and five dollars. Years ago it was and it was purchased this week by sycamore which is it fun private equity firm. There are split the company split. And three different entities and this makes sense given how staples is run their business for awhile now and I think this is really where the value actually is so I think it makes perfect sense for them to do this. What they're gonna do. They gonna divide it into their US retail operations. They're Canadian retail operations in their corporate supply unit at a very large Canadian retail operations per capita basis they have a lot more stores in Canada the nadu India or Canadians love office supplies okay. But that the real values in that corporate supply segment that it that's what everyone who's looked at the company. Says look if this is where you're really gonna generate your shareholder value in the long run so I think that what they're really trying to do more than anything else. Is is get that isolated and that our way supply side is all electronic. Yeah if you IDC it's Alter e-commerce typically it's you don't phoning your order rate you go to the staples website and you order and then. The deliver sometimes the same day I've seen it yet I've seen it the with the office manager here with all were out of something and it'll be here that same day two in the afternoon. Exactly and in what this also allows them to do. Is build in different tranches of bonds depending on what kind of wrist you want to buy so you wanna by the corporate supply side. You say look it's not can be risky it can buy something that's investment grade and I'll be fine with that if you want to buy something with a little bit more yield. You say look all I'll buy some of the US retail bonds because those are a little bit more risky out there so it gives you some different options and I think in general this is probably the best plan that you could see for the company go forward all right well that's what's going on with staples out next. Barry are strong here and I'm joined by Jake too who's a vice president and leader bank and we're talking about the housing market the housing market as you know. In short of supply. Long on demand and Jay for first time homebuyers. What. What is your message to the young couple hours to somebody's out there looking to purchase their first time home. Yes so you know for first time home buyers what we are telling men are a couple things one be patient. Yes you know we we see a lot of first time homebuyers who remain 185. And fifteen offers two for fighting house now and offers except in extremely. Okay. And so they have to temper their expectations. Oftentimes they're they're paying more in the other half you pay more than the asking price and a now it is quite common right now in and in some cases they're actually having to to research other counts rooted in. Considered first because. You know it's very can't afford their dream home exactly. I'm getting we're telling first time homebuyers to really be aware. Of all the mortgage products that are out there that are relevant to Tulsa but this leaders thirty yes so we're really excited about this product we just launched its cult leader thirty. And essentially what it is is that fixed rate loan where if you sign up to pay your mortgage automatically electronically and everybody does for the first year. You get to lower your interest rate payments by one person that's very helpful offer because what it does is gives you great during that first twelve month period exactly so gives you little payment relief for your moving expenses you still have the security of a fixed rate mortgage. Larry Kudlow from CNBC is a frequent contributor to our program but he's also an advisor to the Republican senate for. But at least the last twenty years from what I know. Let any joins us now on the financial exchange good morning Larry happy fourth of July. You can't bury it. So what how would you advise the senate on this health care bill Larry you you're talking I know a lot of these guys are your friends. They've been struggling with this for the last week or two would whit what advice would you give them. Make it feel to be patient make it feel. They're not far apart mill now there's a lot of stuff going. Esoteric things like innovation. On could have had a hundred. I didn't fifty billion dollars to various uses for the individual state. No words Medicaid use. Or whether it's a community ratings. You know Leo he used. Or whether it's. And the mandate. As it did it they're very close I mean I think that. Like how did. They lost it then back at their quote that you get. What about really what rubio and coworker we're talking about keeping that. That Texans. And that was what do you think that sounded dumb to me in the I was one of the big appeals to investors was. Hate that this 3% penalty taxes to be taken out now rubio Crocker talked about keep the darn thing in there. Yeah it actually three point eight closed now ward. Did you attack on the payroll tax. Which is zero point nine. Your own well. In the body. And it's stupid idea. In where this comes from I didn't though and chose a lack a bad ball. But these guys and anyway the irony is. History shows you rate the capital gains tax rate. Generally speaking almost always revenues fall. There's your freezer not that. Euro or damage economic growth and guess if you lower. Back to world was that it was 50% and years ago you make money yeah. And when we lowered. These we may be. I don't know what I got a lot of weird you know. And a lot of that from home can option. You're now beyond I was looking at it that some of the hole on the health care bill not terribly popular IA I picked up a good knowledge that. The the eight game now is that the messaging or is it just gonna be an unpopular bill with the with. America I act if it principally the net. I don't think people love me and that they don't like Obama and I hate but in in comparison to what. And I think what happened here is that the Republicans have failed. To convince the public. That fair plan would really reduce premium that's the biggest issue out there cream. And the GOP has not gotten that point crow. And done either has the administration. And that the single biggest if you look at these polling. All surveys what that's the single biggest. Though they've got to really improve on that they've also got to make the better case. Boy you're. Any writ of mandate which is Lleyton. A wall one side at all do whatever you want you choose whether you want you crossed the line. That'll make it cheaper they'll make the premium seat without it they bring deductibles that such that they just haven't made that eight. And I think it's the big lure to the public so you kind of the public is saying well. Maybe that double you know boom is better in the double we don't know but this as a matter of political. You're civil GOP it not well. How much longer does the president give Mitch McConnell to get this done before he says look flush this thing we're not gonna do it let's get on the tax after tax reform. Well I know is how you would like it I did you would like this I ordered it reversed on this whole thing yet. One at birth place. I don't know I don't think he's. The credit that was step like that I think really. Really you're getting no hit the but the key point here is beaten back. Directory easy pieces the Warren I've read peace. Let's put the business tax cut. Corporate tax rate the interest that that one. And media expensing of new investment two. Repatriation. Tree. GOP paper's all of those. Get it done. Not go away on home August. And watch rather go we set no vacation. Get tax cut and then that combine that health care reconciliation. Put it all together one big bank package. Finishes in August. And this country will be in much better shape now in terms that it felt that in terms of the economic growth. That put the two together no vacation you're not going to be you're in August why can't they were. Larry I read a and I talked to Richard Rubin from the journal earlier this week and he talked about the there's a something floating in the senate about eliminating. The interest deduction for big corporations in order to bring the rate down and you've always been a simplification guy. We got that I did he say look no more. Tax deductibility of corporate bonds and junk bonds and all that stuff that the corporate tax rates going to be. 15% so who cares. Oh that's right. Corbett accept it 50%. And you're gonna get. Media expense which is huge huge factor right so you don't need that. Good truthfully and in fact. It would simply by the it would be good policy here that it's been house bill. No it didn't I didn't know that and yeah. The trap administration we looked at it during the campaign quite a bit yup. No decision was made in. I don't know days if it'd been made. Couldn bad idea Kohn in the new should have been a lot of money off they going to be OK with us. I think and they'd say look let's call status update right admitted that it its little. Oh he's paid a lot of money. Doubt they'll guns that the city if you. But you know let it. At a 15% rate who cares and now right you don't need all that though I personally paper that. Absolutely. I've not because of revenue. Just because it's good that law at all added it would affect the Backstreet so be it a step this way and bank. If you if you take the business tax cut out of the oh wall reform act. Everyone of the party. So you can work out he he talked about. And then just get it done at all. Get it done right I got that they feel that commuters in personal. It individuals that got away yet it's too complicated is that next year who wrote the economy right away is it. You will have a tray and and help him in the mid terms so it did you win win win. I don't I don't look at all of it but it but he economic. Right. But the economy back I mean you look at the now right kind of not all of eight these sought. War and most are asked me to ask you about loan growth he's he's all concerned about the declining loan growth pretty air beneath the words of. Well at that point I mean I think that image in point. It's a bit of a lagging indicator it made it their all those suggest the obvious thought I think. You're the cat we have had a bump up in capital and Ambac. What that third quarter in the first quarter it looked like that wither away a lot of that by the energy that it looks like that wither away yeah. So I IE I don't think he content honored by the way. With inflation indicators down yeah excellent place so they didn't I don't think that Russian. I do not I would be very ought. Good Larry we gotta run but thank you very much for your time appreciate it. Eric and our Larry Kudlow contributor senior contributor to CNBC and he's wired in when we talk about guys like Conan minutia and these are his peers the end. Via I was very age to do here. That that is in the bill to eliminate that interest deduction up for corporations and says as he said look if you lower the overall rate you don't need that. Kids are referenda if your rates 15% you don't need to deduction up. And you know this is a cut down on a lot of these wasteful mergers you know if some of these just and just financial engineering. You see a little bit window dressing going on in new York and what happens is all the fund managers are saying hey we wanna keep these games and pad. In the last ninety days and so the market tends to go up on this day. Right now now pretty consistent with the last day of the quarter Dow's up 63 point tie everybody's buried chat with you. On really the date forward the biggest holiday weekends. Of the year and make everybody pretty excited about it no I am Leah. Are are looking at more than good market. Yeah I mean overall take note the S&P right now when you factory in the dividends that you've received a few bone that they'll it's about 99 and a half percent to somewhere right in that ballpark so it's been a good start of the year. As far as you know how markets have performed so far. I do think you can make your case the markets may have gotten ahead of themselves well particularly in as that that darn NASDAQ. Is up with 14% year today. Yet nasdaq's really been flying and obviously came down to earth somewhat yesterday and and really the last month or so has been pretty much flat now it you know you haven't really seen any sustained movement. NASDAQ today is that pretty much the exact same spot it was that. Back on May sixteenth of last six weeks have pretty much been treading water as far as the NASDAQ goes. I think that you know there's there's a very viable case to be made that stocks might be anywhere from ten to 15% overvalued based on. Snorkel norms such compelling argument to that effect yesterday but senate again you know like I come back to chuck it there's no alternative our good friend Tina. You know you you're not a good enough reason to buy for me now but it still is it's the you know like you talk to people these days the ought to sell my stock you know is all negative in short days if anybody who's negative on the market by and then also it will Hamachi holds doctorate while Ramon cap off a portion negative ones doctor waiting for and about to get by him. Or maybe just sold now you know so it's I don't mean this this is a market that none of the valuations really match up. Pay an analysis of millions of Americans medical claims showed that diagnosis. Of old Buick. Disorders surged by nearly 500%. Over the past seven years. And we live in a part of the country that is just behind the yeah and you know we've it's something that continues to grow we continues to be a problem. At this point despite all of the press that this has gotten in the last couple years. You continue to see this growing exponentially right now would just continues to be. A bigger and bigger problem 91 people a day. And in particular you find that this is very prevalent in New England OK why is like why because. With an on one hand blue cross blue field blaming it on the doctors might at least that's my interpretation of the article saying that doctors were prescribing. And people are getting hooked on one because they run the pain. That that's my interpretation if I've got it wrong I apologize to people in the medical profession that they might impression. Of the studies that they're blaming the box but it Dublin like why the docs in New England doing the docs in California art. That I don't know that I I I have no seat at the same question I yeah I I have no idea why doing and might have a higher prevalence terrible choice all England states what you're talking about. You know it is just horrendous is in Manchester, New Hampshire it would of the Boris just New Hampshire today a New Bedford avenue in masters is real bad these days. You know it's. Use it it's not good at all and look it's it's something that. It's not just affecting you traditionally abuse you know drugs that the lower class problems not something. You've seen this with people who you know white collar jobs blue collar construction guys across the board it's on duty empty you know it's it's not just people. Without jobs that are having these problems it's people who you know you might see construction guys that work for twenty years had no problems almost and they've got to get in the replaced. And then they end up getting hooked some realities just I mean it's a terrible terrible situation. In our first hour we had a trivia question and the answer is on December 23 1941. Just over two weeks after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Government officials removed the sign declaration. And the constitution from a public display and evacuated both documents from Washington DC. Under the supervision of armed guards. The founding documents were stored in a specially designed container and escorted by Secret Service agents to Fort Knox. Music and neat work returned to the nation's capital to work Shearer who weren't in the ward. Spokesperson. And last night I learned that it is in fact moving out of Hartford and their move into New York City. From your perspective you're you're used to get rid. Correct there's no it's not. And it's probably gonna move about two or 3000 people out of 6000 out of art but I thought it is June 15 you're in and the best at moving a headquarters. Its headquarters. To figure that it. Changing its legal address. That. Or the wood in your opinion needs to be done to improve the business climate in Connecticut or. Is that perception among business owners that everything's just hunky dory. Now I think we've got your problem Connecticut got to spend a ton of money. Making its cities in the state. And the template that yet it is there's not a cheap thing you've got a little I mean it's you know we're doing it in Hartford. The state of Connecticut has spent. Probably about a billion dollars in the last dozen years. On the city apart and 101 million dollar UConn downtown campus about the open. So it it's doing it but it could very well process. We have a preference for big city in this country among young innovative people and that's where companies ought to be an open and activate the. So if if that's the case would East Hartford in addition to the UConn. Campus what else are they gonna do it and what have they gotten for their billion dollars so far. I've looked down on a more vibrant than what you got. The Hartford. United Technologies a number of other companies are saying that that was I shouldn't begin mentioned is that right down right thing that is. Plate we wanna be there are about point 500. Apartment units mostly smaller single. You're done one bedroom bed and put that younger people most of all over the last dozen years or so that it's dark. Amenities that the volume at a critical mass of about 5000 people down and we're about halfway there. Now in reading the in reading the Hartford current today. It sounds like at that took a shot at Connecticut saying look. Is the business climate needs to improve what are they talking about the wood what needs to be done. To improve the business climate. Besides spending more money anyway what about tax cuts what is it. I was looking at things like property tax levels income tax level sales tax levels in Connecticut. Some of them particularly property taxes are awfully kind connect. Get back is I no question about it they'll lower and Austin York. So immaculate and you're talking about when I moved to the most expensive places on earth you and they connect it to expect if the question is value when you get it back to me and so. Governor Malloy has cut the size of the state workforce by about 10%. But I spoke to the commissioner let my partners bought 5%. Of the people that department of economic and I'm sorry of an energy and trying to protect you must point 5% of people you know in the last week for years. So be it government is being made more efficient the problem with the clock that is leading to the gridlock as you note today. Let there the year and we do not have a budget and we will not have a budget. Going forward so that the acting together the problem is legacy costs or all the obligations the problem is not a bad thing that we're doing now. Yet the work that groups. So let's talk about the legacy costs is there any appetite in Connecticut to take on public pensions. In just a huge appetite absolutely no question no question about it I think I think that vast majority of the population would like if they let have no. Cost of living increases for state retirees for example. It. But kept out a veto it. Equipment let. It get legal issues that you have. Contractually. What about do we UPS did earlier this week where they said they all of our. White collar workers at UPS 70000 workers were doing away with the defined benefit plan we're gonna give you 41 K. What about jacket I take in the forefront on that. I think every thirty seconds of numbers here at Connecticut stop giving anything you've been up 401K you know nothing. No payment for any retirement going all to anyone. It would still owed two billion dollars a year for the next point here. So the problem is not what you're paying your current workers will retire your problem is or is it that our workers. In other words you can convert everyone to know retirement plan is legal in Iraq and we would still. The problem the problem is legacy obligations not obligation being made today. And that sounds insurmountable two billion a year. It's not insurmountable it at the time and we've done a couple of things in Connecticut the restructure the debt it's been controversial because that you well know in order to restructure debt and yet they expanded and that and the cost more money. Overall but let money etiquette point that's part of the equation. Inflation is. As if inflation rises a little bit. You can as you well know inflate your way out of some long term debt but that's not a good plan for the economy. And the other thing connect it hasn't been new agreement with. With the union may not be voted on by the legislature and the unions. And it's the summit doesn't go far enough. That he has some union members because too far but it restructure sanctions going forward it cut down on those colas and the belt that it was all. Who's going to be the next governor Connecticut again. I would get it you have the depth right now would be gap assailed Republicans because. Malloy incorrectly is being tapered at the guy expecting all the money let me he is he's the only one cut. So. Among Republicans I don't see anybody any app from the act. It was a step SP I would hope. For the Republicans say that they do not. Put forward another inexperienced idol millionaire more celebrity because that doesn't work and connect it worked obviously in the yellow light out. For election but not in not the. Very good Dan thank you very much for your time appreciate it have a great week you too happy fourth. As Kandahar Hartford current. They Connecticut real LA Danzig he is a cheerleader but I will tell you. You know we when you lose to people forget the advisor headquartered in Connecticut they're gone. Bad GE headquartered in Connecticut they're gone now they lose that. No it Dan said it's you know 2030 jobs thing I think it's gonna end up being more like hundreds of jobs and then what they've also said was. Their commitment to Connecticut going forwards going to be based on the business climate like anti business climate in Connecticut is not very friend used to be chucked. Connecticut had 25%. Of their play twenty years ago connected at 25% of their employees. Not Aetna and tweet by 5% of their pleasing Connecticut now the down to less than 12%. Yeah I mean it's it's bin. A relatively rapid decline for Connecticut I mean it it's it's something you know we usually say these things take 3040 years to happen. This has been pretty quick in the last in the last decade now. And it's not something as Dan said it's not insurmountable we've seen states come back from things like this before. But you've got to be able to take the medicine and deal with it so you can bounce back down. Why did Greta Van Susteren get fired last night from MSNBC. Wal-Mart is escalating its war of words with Amazon. By sending veiled messages to the trucking companies that holds its merchandise from its distribution store but I. I I know you're not a huge Wal-Mart man. But I've been used in this subject app you know I I I've not I met. I have a problem with online shopping I'm little and get carried away with you used. So now I checked bag I go to Amazon and I checked with jet dot com at the last two purchases made online booklet to jet dot com. Yeah Wal-Mart what they're doing here is they are telling the trucking companies that hold their merchandise. That if they do business with Amazon Wal-Mart may choose not to work with them and then. It's dirty pool. Yeah you know if it's likely only here in a fight with its long sentence if Wiegert. It's pretty much saying if you can't beat the products that day that Amazon is putting out there Wal-Mart is resorting to trying to manipulated suppliers and and I think I had no problem. You don't. May I say you know what Wal-Mart eager to battle with Jeff Bezos. He's gonna play dirty he's been. The members under the senate say the same thing you know I'm I'm OK a Tom Oliphant. It's funny to think of Wal-Mart is being the under wine isn't. One wire you look like regardless of who's doing it why are you OK with what was there when they felt it would this behavior. Is that once it is very much and I wanna play a viable competitor Amazon I think it's you know this is how you build now. They just throw this is this is pretty much the company saying hey nice trucking company would be a shame if anything happened to him at the god father immediately it's. It this is not how you want to see business being done and no I agree that this is one step away from way cartels since I understand that the problem there in China is there and kill but it doesn't mean you resort to this late again. Build a better product this is. Like this like when companies go to regulars say other's companies going after us we get a regulation to prevent the island business like and build a better product but if you really want to beat Amazon book. I have no sympathy for Wal-Mart Wal-Mart put an awful lot of people are out of business over the last forty years so Wal-Mart can't compete with as. Well as the ironic grown up ten years ago Wal-Mart should focus. Build a better product build a better mousetrap instead of complaining and trying to manipulate and bribe your subscribers. Yes although was not so hot I think it was more like I could spot childhood dish pastors there best served cold this stock. He can do anything yesterday die you know Christ did and he traded up up. I needed the bank closed at ten and now it's down 4% today. Paul looking at blue apron everyone is thought of them as you know kind of this this tech companies since their inception. I view them almost more as a logistics and more than anything else did trying to value them what kind of modeled the even build fourth. Yet that is a great question I think you're right that in many respects they are. War about delivery and you know shipping and logistics and pure tech. Company in the way that you say something like app all our FaceBook or. Google is that so valiantly labor is going to be difficult particularly because they continue to lose money there are you that revenue is there a bit. You'll revenue growth is slowing him and also this is 2017. Not 1997. If you wanted to talk about. Monetizing eyeballs. You know a price to sales ratio. I think we all drank that tech cooler it's not that turned out. I've personally been very critical blue aprons business model saying that they have too much turn in the price point is to try to get Wyden of distribution. But is there a path to success for them and what does it look like if there news. I think is going. To be very challenging for them it is a crowded. Market there are other who delivery services. You keep broadening out what they're marketed could be considered. You have to think that something like Amazon buying whole foods could you legitimate threat as well. One thing that Al variation about the company and who knows if there will be any people alliances going forward. I do think it's notable that tree super cool blue is a high ranking Berkshire Hathaway technicians are really down. Up and coming star Berkshire act a line at one. She's now the head of the pamper chapped unit at Berkshire. We know that. This stock is not look like anything that you think Buffett would want what we used to think that about tech in general and now apple one of his top holdings. Could there be hit DE download Wear blue apron does something. More. Keeper alliance of Berkshire Hathaway may be but you know I. I wouldn't be buying the stock on the date hope that Warren Buffett may believe that one day but I think it's at least worth noting it eventually relationship. Looking at where they stand right now they had and pricing their IPO about. 50% below where they initially had tried to I get the shares to. And there are still struggling did to support the price now. This would seem to be a stock that once the lock up expires might have some significant volatility heading into the fall. Yeah I think that is definitely something to keep an eye on one insiders are allowed to sell their shares. Never good sign away EC east stock. At least some on. From the initial public offering price but we'll make even worse is as you point out it was only a few weeks ago that. BP is seventeen was what the expectation was him. They've price it cannon out there a single digit stock. It's hard to imagine in how low they can. You'll readout from. They can skip that didn't FaceBook when they went public in. Pat it's problems first. Obviously it turned things up again on their right mind thinks that. Liberated anything more than just an niche company which holidays you know I I did a video for CNN hi in international network where. Colleen we talked. Some of the meal done. No I do think the service is a viable one actually got a free trial a couple of years ago. But I didn't wind up subscribing because to be honest I have enough recipes in my own. You know kind of Eli I think you know big enough you know library rescues that don't eat leap like shopping itself. The the Amazon whole foods announcement really just came at the exact wrong time for the steel is. You know that I have to match that was a huge part of why they couldn't price where they wanted to. Yet you would think that that was something that clearly the company to become and they filed. For their IPO a few months ago. He is something that is going cute practically. We shape. Not just the supermarket business but also we've seen a lot of food companies. There shares have fallen through that deal was announced because Amazon has a reputation for trying to keep prices low. What's that can mean for all packaged food companies out there to. Which of course serve you know part some perspective you know the belief that we can't. Can be very. Very good Paul thank you very much of the time have a great weekend and a great fourth of July okay brought you all Monica from the CNN money talking about blue. Apron if you'll shares in ninety congratulation their stock prices up nine point 18% now trading at 5804. You've earnings were good but they were attacked it. Earnings were good I think the big thing is they're starting a pilot program to us sell their shoes and clothing on Amazon than which they are anticipating and I guess investors are anticipating. Could give them much wider distribution. LB apple Neil I brought the march assignment. We think that'll help I think they'll get something off that I mean no one who's ever sold on Amazon said it didn't help their sales and they could margins as an amateur profit margins 44% they'll be thinner on Amazon I wouldn't be surprised you're ten to 12% lower on Amazon. Gross margin narrowed to 44%. From 45 point nine. I'd like to have a business we have profit margin was 44% to deal he got a take that averages hey folks.
