Tugs ought to we got a little bit of economic data this morning it all came out around 8:30 eastern time included. The thing that I was curious about was the second estimates for GDP. And I always like to see the jobless claims number. Yet the the GDP revision came in pretty much where people expected so not a huge difference from all the expectations. Coming in at two point 1% for the fourth quarter compared to an estimate of 2% so a slight beat there but nothing significant the big things that I pull away. As I dig into a durable goods orders up eleven point 4% for the quarter and three back to back to back quarters of strong growth there. But we continue to see. Very slow investment on the corporate side negative one point 9%. For non residential structures. We have not seen consisting growth there really you have to go back to 2011. To see some consistent growth there other than that it has been very scattered. Over the last few years. So does not seem the type of group that you want to bear. And I think overall. Doesn't really tell us anything new about the economy in the fourth quarter but just confirms what we had already suspected. Decent growth but not the kind of growth that we want to see. You know hopefully better growth coming forward as soon. You know I saw this headline in today's Wall Street Journal. That north Carolina Republican lawmakers said on Wednesday night that they have an agreement with the democratic governor Roy Cooper. On legislation. To resolve a standoff over the State's bathroom and you might wonder. Why the heck his company to show covering this well it's worth about four billion dollars to the state in North Carolina that's how much it costs themselves so far over the bathroom bill. But you're telling me in at least off fair he said I don't know if this is going to be enough. Yeah in the big reason why were covering this is that a number of organizations from the NCAA all the way through a number of trade groups have pulled. A number of events from North Carolina in the last years since this bill became law. And what the the new bill effectively does repeal HB two which was the controversial. Build it had kind of started all of this. But what it does it still keeps. Those multi bathroom facilities in state control for the next four years meaning that. It probably doesn't change a whole lot suited me the big question will be NCAA. But tournaments in North Carolina is North Carolina is a huge area that you you look at Raleigh. Charlotte. You know that those are areas that just get a lot of greens World League tournament. Well in and look from a purely selfish perspective my duke blue doubles it had to play in South Carolina against South Carolina instead of pulling in Charlotte so. I look at it I think the NCAA. Probably has some questions as to what this this bill actually means it probably means that not making that decision any time in the next couple days like they said they were going to. I think they're probably gonna punt for the next week Tuesday what the bill actually means what kind of response is they get because they've given North Carolina deadline of I thought today's morning post this morning to get things done so my guess is they probably punt for another week to just say OK what what is this actually mean. But I don't know it's going to be something that actually ends up getting. The NCAA and who bonds are and then Republicans. Reportedly I don't know this is true. A I I've I'm hearing it's not true but report news cronies CNBC. Republicans reportedly may try another vote on Obama care replacement bill. Next week by the snow I don't I think in particular Mitch McConnell came out yesterday and said pretty much things are. Dead at this point the senate. And I can't see the house trying to get a bill through. Knowing that it's VOA and sent to security it's just the battle for the house then and all the members say OK we passed the bill but that we couldn't get anywhere. Why why would get through the senate with holding it up it's so. I don't think they have the votes in the senate when you take a look at the the senate map. It's just the fact that because they are statewide races instead of specific districts it doesn't appear they have the votes to talk about people like Lisa Murkowski Susan Collins and those are Republicans that are easy to peel off on this legislation just because. I don't think that they would back. A full repeal necessarily just don't see them being able to get the votes there. And on top just a full repeal the repeal and replace but the replacement bill was not terribly track while they're talking about trying to just do repeal this point also that's another thing that's being talked about with freedom caucus trying to get that done. I'm not sure how well that's gonna go over since. Trump did send a fairly aggressive tweet this morning towards the freedom caucus pretty much saying that we have to defeat these people with oh that's the best way to deal with freedom caucus freedom caucus the members there though 4045 members of his 4342. They're going back to their home districts which might be an Alabama Arkansas Texas. New Mexico and they are being treated like rock stars. Well here the are there activities are being applauded in their home just and to be fair they're doing exactly what they said they were going to do. For their districts they said look we want to on the and we want to shrink government we want to get rid of obamacare. And the bill that was on the table. What's really getting rid of obamacare was just kind of shuffling the deck chairs and moving things around. More than anything else so. The 3 o'clock Pacific out of last week came out with a lot more power than they had before. Partly just because they realized what we are the swing votes effectively to get anything don't. You know I've heard of. Phrase from a good friend of mine who's in tourney he'll be here later today is name's Todd lucky. And he said when you're picking between nursing homes it's lousy day vs love TV. And I think when you're looking at trump care vs obamacare it's lousy aid vs love he beat you look at the two programs. As a matter backward I have an interview really good interview coming up in about five minutes with Stacy tally from the New York Times. How on obamacare but the you know you look at the trump care replacement I was very unimpressed with with trump here they I looked at and I said. This is this is hurting people. That could least afford to be hurt by the repeal of obamacare. Well we saw the math and the people who would be most impacted negatively by. The replacement bill was a war. Seniors it was people ages fifty to 64. Who unfortunately would have seen their premiums in a lot of cases either triple or quadruple. You know going from paying three to 4000 year up to 14181000. I mean that's a significant. Increase there. And I'd I just think that when you look at. My big thing that I continue to come back to do with the HCA was. What are you trying to accomplish are you trying to actually get government out of health care or you just trying to get something through just that passes just that he can say you did something right because in the broad scheme of things. It's still didn't really change any and we underlying problems when you look at it and you indeed you know you're not terribly impacted by on a personal but when you looked it. Trump care vs Obama care with one better than the other. No. So lousy day vs love it here is my point and until after I like this would move the age bands back to five to one but they didn't do anything that's an unfair you liked. What can we have a young or pay for your health insurance. To do that but. No but but on the other hand you had this weird mechanism where instead of the individual mandate if you ever lost insurance all of a sudden you had to pay extra premiums to the insurance companies it was pretty much like and out for inserts on it they're going. What I wanna do like I don't like paying extra money. In taxes to the government but the last thing I want to do it the more money just that lost insurance for six months one time 88. I guess there are poll question today is pretty straightforward do you prepare prefer trump care. Over obamacare I should have had a third category you know it's a yes or no bull question we should have had a third error category which would be yes no and they both. But anyway our website address if you'd like to participate in our poll. Is financial exchange showed dot com do you prefer trump care over obamacare. I get a tally it's split hairs when you'd take a look at the two. The next story that will be covering has to do with business owners in how they feel about Obama here for. And repeal will be joined by Stacy how old. Of the New York Times she interviewed a number of business owners regarding the repeal of obamacare she joins us next. From our insurer match dot com studios. Barry and chuck get the latest every day beginning at ten only here on the financial exchange radio network. Casey Cali with the New York Times wrote an article posted a couple days ago but I caught it Mathis he if you would come on the show with us. More than obamacare repeal small businesses. Want congress to rein in costs do we ever I Stacy welcome to the show. And so Stacey what do you hear you interviewed a lot of trump boulders. That owned businesses. And would be hearing from them regarding the failed repeal of Obama. Let it can really mixed reaction I'm small business though there's that the bloc typically oppose Obama care about 60% wanna be repealed according to various surveys. But individual account at how it affects their businesses the court pretty mixed so I've heard about it the week who have really happy that the sale. I've also heard from other than those days that are really believes many of them reliant obamacare themselves for their coverage that we did during mixed reaction up there. A treaty that bit as a business owner the the big objection I have two we had Romney here here in Massachusetts prior to Obama care was cost. It it was. You know they are costs went from. I don't know six or 700 dollars a month for payment plan to I think we're now close to 2000 dollars a month for family plans Stacey it's it's making. Of the provision of health insurance is an employee benefit. Just a terrible the terrible burden on any business. Yup and I hit a lot of people watch that caught going to give it that really wanted something to be done the rate that then. Would do when he talked to business owners after they looked at trump care which I took a long look at it and I thought it was lousy. Wouldn't that wouldn't do it did the business owner community think trump there was any better than obamacare. Now that was pretty much the reaction across the board is the people who got into the beaten out of it or compressed I heard from a lot of people that this looked rushed and slap dash. And that they wanted to see something done but that this wasn't actually going to be any better for them doubt Obama can. Would they want lately when you know what I want to disorder but when you talk to you talk to somebody you don't hair salon and talk to somebody who that in accounting firm. You know you you talked to a variety of different business owners what is it that a business owner wants from health care. UK I mean basically they want the data complexity they'll out of this though. One of the frustrations with obamacare has been that it does bring in a lot of paperwork. Readily available at additional employees simply complying with all of the new tax paperwork that's required. Can be a lot of time a lot of hours a lot of expense was sitting down with your accountant to do it. Well it and it would stop Stacey let me stop you on the compliance to our part because I was shocked that you you had one company that was spending. EV thousand dollars a year. Just on compliance. And that's LL and I've topic how to say that even that small business customers their easily see people come in and having to spend 50000 a 100000 dollars on the paperwork. You know I I I talked to the head of our HR department and in you know it's a sneaky cost because it. It's hours rated BIP bill balls right in that you may not be writing it checked for the first software like that but in terms of time spent on it. If you'd even have with a small company. It can be hundreds if not thousands of hours that are spent by HR on this top. So that's been a real frustration and then the thing that's been frustrating is you know not that the Pentagon to put it they don't like the the inefficiency and complexity and markets. And across the board everyone looks at the health care industry and these they they like we have you know these these cost systems bill that the line but the delivery mechanism. Light we have all the complexity out there at Catholic I thought they want to see congress take action on drug pricey. On minimum benefit and plans on the things they're driving the car up across the board. Simpler plans and he and the ability maybe offer skinny your plan is that statement. Yeah that a lot and there are certainly good economic reasons why that's been really challenging like that that it goes against the whole notion of health insurance. That's a complex issue but it's certainly something that the senate would like that they. Would today that would impact is Obama here having on hiring you know the not a lot. That he you hear a lot of anecdotes about people saying Alan not I need to cut the dead but if you look at. How the job market over the last 67 years that money and sent the with a adopted. The US that added jobs every single month since late when he can and one especially interesting peek now is that a lot of predictions that workers would. That employers at which the people simple kind iPad that as the stay below the mandate I told the act that has content out. We actually have about 40% fewer people working part time who would rather be where people time now that we did back in twenty cat. So you hear individually and anecdotally but in terms of the macro data that isn't a lot of evidence that Obama camp has actually have a lot of the fact empire. Stacy. Across town the CNBC is suggesting there's going to be another vote to repeal obamacare next week I use is what are you hearing. Well it said. Changing situation we're keeping an ear and out there. All right Stacy thank you very much for your time we appreciated thank you are inching to yet another perspective on you know it's EU EU here. I obamacare is you know you use it and are on our finance meetings and you hear what were paying for health insurance yet. And I can tell you it is absolutely been a drag on our company and and our ability to hire. Yeah that is the big question is way in this is the question that Republicans are faced with now is what you do is. You know obviously what you could say look let's let's get the government completely out of health care and that's a viable position to have. But the problem with that. Is that you also have to answer questions such as wolf someone shows up at a hospital with no insurance what do you do do you turn them away for a forty simply pass costs on to someone else rather in a business but taxpayers. Because until you answer that question and say what do you do with those people. It's kind of all academic merit you know it's you have to be able to answer that one and that's the problem is. We don't have a good answer. For how to deal with people who were uncovered in the modern healthcare system in part of the problem I think and I say this over and over. We are only dealing with the coverage side of the equation we are not trying to drive costs down you know when it comes to treatment and all you do is try to cover people. But not make any. Type of attempts to reduce costs at the source. You're not doing anything you're not addressing the problem coverage is a great thing to go laughter and try to get people into the system but if you're not trying to get the cost down. What's the point. Most investors the vast majority of investors when they buy stock. Opened up a broker to count the open up an investment account. Put in their 100000 dollars to 200000 dollars whatever is they're gonna use and and how much apple they're going to deploy and it just paid for the Sox. Some investors however buy stocks on margin what does that mean well you opened up a brokered. The use Fidelity's an example and you put a million dollars in brokered. You can then go in the world on margin. Up to 50%. Of the value of those stocks. So if you at a million dollars for the stocks you can borrow and theory another 500000 dollars. In equity gains and beauty 500000 dollars more purchasing power. Well margin. As hit an all time high in the month of February is applying to 528. 1000000000 dollars in February. That's it's giving up there and it's making me a little nervous because the previous two times those kind of numbers bad things. Yet up about 3% from what we've seen in January. And it is also watch January was as it was. The first margin debt record in nearly two years. But as you mentioned historically. When you see rising levels of margin that it is a sign that investors are bullish because they're saying look I'm willing to borrow and take out debt in order to invest in the stock market. But historically unfortunately. Every time you hit those record levels it tends to be just before a pretty big pull. 20020082008. Is the time the season the previous times books that we've hit margin levels like this. And you know look I'm not saying history going to repeat itself. But. When your leverage when your district about the senior borrowing money you. In that example I used yet the million dollar brokers you or half a million dollars to buy stock when that stock goes down in value if it goes down in you have to cover them market also. What happens is eight. I guess it creates a cascading effect world soda prices are down people up to sell driving prices down more and all of a sudden you get this wave of selling it happens. Because people up to what's called their margin calls to because brokers require. You have a base level of cash in the account and that is what was occurring. Back in October. 2000 and a call lose birdies when it was down were 500 points and Gator days and even. Coming up next we talk about JPMorgan. They decided they would it be moving some of their people from London. And we'll have a trivia question for you for march or match dot com. Making your Smartphone even smarter. Download. That holds 1000 people now the bricks and vote occurred yesterday at 130 in the afternoon Brussels time. And banks said they lead when people abraxis we're gonna relocate I'm hearing truck that they. That just the financial sector it could be 200000 jobs that relocate out of the United Kingdom to other parts of Europe. Yeah and JPMorgan obviously coming out immediately saying look we're we're talking about moving thousand people to Dublin even just within the next year or so. We also saw Lloyd's of London this morning announced that they were gonna start a division in Brussels in order to be able to do business. In the EU more easily as well. You know coupled airline's rate that he got a couple airlines that are so you know overall. Look there there is going to be somewhat of an exodus of jobs coming out of the UK just because in order to do business in the year you're gonna have to have subsidiaries that are set up there. And that require a significant. Number of people to be working in those subsidiaries so. Certainly. It's early on in this process again article if he was just triggered yesterday by the UK. Bought you are starting to see already. That some jobs are going to be leaving the UK specifically leaving London in order to get this done. What's cities have the greatest capacity. To take on these sort of course is that is a big part of on the JPMorgan said we've got 4000 in London that we need to relocate from what I can understand. Very difficult to put all 4000 things that yes they did in London for thirty years in I'll tell you you talk about double as an example. It limited capacity that was got a population of 500000 people so it's it's a good size city. But keep in mind that's point 5% 30% smaller than Boston so you look at it you say what could we absorb 4050000 people over five years. I don't think you don't have the housing you don't have the infrastructure in place so what you're talking about doing is probably splitting between a few different cities Dublin is definitely going to be prime beneficiary. Because of the language okay I think that's keeping as well as it's fairly cheap to do business there. I think Brussels as we saw with Lloyd's of one is gonna be attractive because of its location yeah I think Frankfurt earth the other two that you probably see there. And I think the Copenhagen. Equipment companies have been you know financial centuries it's nice city what you tend to see is that companies tend to move in tandem with one another because they want to be close to where the businesses. And if a company that great city from everything here I just don't know there's enough financial hot there at the moment. To attract business I think the two biggest winners are probably probably going to be as we saw today Dublin Brussels just I think not Frankfurt and I think Frankfurt you can see a little bit of activity there I think harris' more oval longshot disputes to be honest I don't know how many people wanna do business in France it's just not a friendly country do businesses and so I do think that Dublin and Brussels probably end up. It's picking up sixty to 70% with the rest on its pattern between Frankfurt and and payers. Bill Gates is still the richest man in the world but Jeff is knows. Is now the second richest purse a basis had a pretty good year his net worth is up ten point two billion dollars over the first three months of a when he seventeenth so that's pretty good I mean you figure you move in the right direction in particular. Just yesterday he added one point five billion dollars to his fortune. As Amazon was up eighteen dollars and 32 cents though. William bill and a half dollars in a day. You don't all right of course you can loose alignment in that order be self style still selling fair. You know every year he was silent about 500 million dollars fears. Which is a drop in the bucket Amazon shares 73 fear he did last year last year sold it effectively worked at the 757. Million dollars. He sells the same number of shares every year something he's done pretty much since Amazon has been a publicly traded company. And he pretty much does this. I think just it makes it he doesn't get. You know it's the kind of Smart not keeping all your eggs in one basket as good of a basket as Amazon may be I don't think we have to worry about days you know. Running him look I'll tell you even Jeff basis needs to diversify when you have 75 point six billion dollars and one company. You can use a little bit diversification. They still think that's going to be the first trillion dollar company. I do I mean I. We're Saudi aramco me they may be burglary guardian trillion dollar company does not just now publicly traded I do think Amazon gets there or if you look at their market cap today 425. Billion dollars of sales are projected to be a 147. Billion this year and it row. If you'll grow to 40% a year yet Apple's. No it's it's. The if so would the competitors apple Google. In schools not Google's. Point person. No and keep my apple does Apple's revenue was 215 doing so apple is one and a half times the size of Amazon by revenue. So Amazon still smaller than apple by revenue but ultimately that the kind of growth that Amazon is the right now. It is. I mean it would match you go back. Forty years to the dot com and you have all these different companies out there. In the one that somehow ends up coming out on top with an online store that wanted to sell stocks both tired the cult like. Think about it all the companies you could about pets dot com via all the different but that was the first industry that they put out of this with the books. That was that was the first thing now look at all of the other company's business that's what's interesting is I think regardless of what. Industry they'd gotten into if they've been if if Jeff business that started that's dot com I think he would have ended up in the same place just he's he's such a good executive and I think this is aegis. He was able to weather the storm kind of an 01304. And when they came out on the other side is it just the juggernaut at this point. Letters that go out. Two for many viewed to be your grandchildren who were in high school right now and we're broadcasting from he's fifty to raise your hand. If you have a high school student. As a great job any grandchildren that are high school students not make it happen doesn't. Well today chuck. The seniors are getting what are called lake Wheeler I never heard this before. Yeah and and what are likely letters it's a letter that's sent out prior to an official acceptance. That pretty much says they have pretty good chance of getting in and really that pretty good chance. Means that you're going to be getting so why don't they just say you're getting it. Typically it's just because they don't want to break protocol and tell people before the official response statement it's done. The people that the schools really want in order to say. Hey we want you come here and then start planning as if you're going to look if you have a letter coming in a week it's gonna get you win so wind of the real letters next week depends on the school a lot of them might be march 31 they might be April 1 they might be April 7 April 15 it's generally. March and April are pretty much the the big time. Forgetting all of his acceptance is out and then make a decision pretty quickly you know you you don't have a ton of time to turn this around it's not something where he can sit on it. For a month or two you generally have a few weeks to make decision. And most kids who wait until April rate did it to make their bye I know a lot. In our town a lot of the kids when my kids are grown high school a lot of them didn't make their decision. If you are made their decisions back in Aden in December because they would apply early decision early action against elderly decision. But that you know the vast majority does don't do. No you are seeing a slight uptick in not early decision applicants there's definitely a higher percentage that they're used to be. But you are definitely seeing on the vast majority still are getting. Decisions coming in March and April than they've got to save where my gonna go and spend the next four years and 200000 dollars my parents money. Well you get those letters and then you have to compare the financial offers and the like that's. The you'll get your except elective reports at the letters if you're lucky. In April. But then you have to say okay well how much financially did I get from pole Bork and how much what would I get from UMass Amherst and and you. You measure all that and then you'd. Well I think it in the big thing that I urge anyone to do in that process. Apologies are willing to negotiate on financially to what degree in his art when you say negotiate and financially they just gonna say why won't you more money. Know that the way it effectively works. Is in particular you're a better offer from one school let's say that school is offering you 20000 dollars a year and and money that's cool these offering you 101000 and you want to go to school beat them what do you typically do is you showed in the letter from school way and say look here's what they're offering me in and again this is typically not in loans and you know money. Grants and so forth academic often time it SA because you're good student we're gonna need 20000 dollar exactly and so and so you show the second school you say hey look here's here's the latest trying to give me 20000 dollars a year you're giving me ten. You need to get closer or at this number otherwise I'm gonna go to the other school and typically. And again my my mom is a college counselor this is what she does yup. Typically those schools will match you match if you don't have another offer it's much more difficult to negotiate. But if you do have a stronger offer from a school that you do not necessarily want to go to. Take that and use it to negotiate because you will be success. More often than not Larry. Up next will be joined by Bob lane from thestreet.com we have to stocks to talk about in we'll have the answer to our trivia contest all of that coming up. Absolutely in fact I'm gonna tell you right now if you do go back two year old lawyer to get it changed and here she says Alia we can we can you know. Amend the existing trust that you have walked out yet because it's a recipe. For disaster. About interest rates we are of the opinion that interest rates are going to rise two or three times during calendar year 27 team the big question is chuck why is the Federal Reserve increasing the federal funds rate now yet the big reason why the Fed bumps up that federal funds rate. Is because they feel that the economy is on pretty stable footing and they simply want to make sure that inflation. Doesn't get out of control if there's too much money floating around in the economy so what they do. Is they've raised that federal funds rate and it has two effects one it makes borrowing a little bit more expensive. It also raises the amount the people were able to get on things like CDs and savings accounts helping them to keep money in the bank instead of spending so would we talked about how housing. Is hot and prices are rising in young people millennial they're getting priced out of the housing market people can't afford to buy a house house because prices are rising too fast with the Fed take that into consideration when they're looking at raising interest rates they would housing does factor and all there inflation metrics that they look at. And so is definitely something that factors in. And what you see there is that as rates and the rising mortgage rates go up to makes a little bit more challenging to buy a home. OK so rising mortgage rates would actually depressed housing prices good to know. They folks if you like to get a guide called how to invest in a rising interest rate environment call my office at 800. 3934001. That's 803934001. We are of the opinion. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and sharks are. I've learned a long time ago never look a gift horse in the mouth. The market is rallying the Dow's up ninety points I have no idea why that'll take it. Right nothing wrong with a little rally. The S and p.'s up nine point. And oil I had a whole segment job. We dedicated to explaining why oil was go down in price and some of the benefits not rally oil is up today. 53 cents at fifty dollars and four cents a barrel are already do that segment they woo left. Modify. Our segment with by a negative news Ottawa. We approach saved for next week of throat go back down it could go down by. 1130 you know if we wait long enough will change its direction it was just a week ago that oil was at 4767. And now here we are today back above fifty dollars a barrel. And I think that's part of what's lifting markets today when you take a look on a sector by sector basis. Energy materials kind of leading the way as well as financial so little bit of a move back into riskier stocks utilities the one sector that's down today. In the ten year treasury at 2.4 percent. ConocoPhillips in particular not coming up and they are up seven point 6%. On the day here. All right. If you've ever been sick or been in a hospital you know darn well that the nurses are the ones running the show and in the past we've covered. Labor relations between nurses in the hospital we cover the ones it was a bit of this week threatened strike or strike at Newton Wellesley. And then was there when it Beth Israel that we talked about X are back in the fall right yeah now Tufts University your top hospital nurses. Our they've authorized a one day strike. Yeah this is 12100 nurses in the union that represents them. And they say that 95%. Of the nurses cast ballots in favor. Of this action here they haven't set a strike date yet. And I highly doubt they end up striking this is typically hospital realized we can't have the nurse's strike and he can't afford dub it that they simply can't have it happen. It's a typically you end up getting a deal done here so I do think god. The last two were they around. I think when they when they started their labor relations. And and re negotiations I think the nurses were a 150000. Dollars. In that ballpark for forty hour week in a lot you talk to nurses they we've got a number of nurses that are clients many of them are pulling. One or two extra shifts on a weekly date yet especially as he gets seniority UC quite a number of them that are making opened at 500000. You're talking 16180000. But they're not working forty hours they're working 4055 hours a week to do so. So this strike wheat we don't have the data we don't know what the nurses at tufts are making but it's fair to say. Probably around 115 in negotiating is to issues rate they want more money. And they want better working conditions which which they did it by better working conditions weren't talking about there's number of nurses per patient is that through it all boils down. Exactly it's just being able to have a manageable work environment there that you have two more meeting scheduled April 3 April 12 trying to hash something out. I would imagine again you get a deal done it's pretty rare that you actually see nurses strike it's typically is enough. To get things. That drug overdose epidemic in America's suburbs. Live in the suburbs and you know if you talk to. People that work in the emergency care business or hospitals. Or law enforcement the we'll tell you that the these volatile feelings that it's heroin epidemic and truck. Heroin epidemic is killing is the biggest killer of people between the ages 25. And 45. Now in the country more than car accidents it's more than in alcoholism it's more then. Gun related deaths that number one killer for your your your your gallery you're in that category is Earl. Yeah it's again this is an epidemic it over the last really four years. Has just exploded at this point. And is this pretty much no one. Out there at this point it doesn't know someone who has. I do heroin overdose fortunately it's something that. You know you go back when he year's most talked about about them I think people saw in the earliest frequently was big in the seventies. When I was a kid yeah there is a lot of heroin used in the seventies. And then it went away. And now it is back with a vengeance. It's I mean it is a crisis at this point what's what's interesting they good friend who. He works in the parole department. For these masters of and one of the things he says he says look when when we have her when addicts who were in here they tell me I don't wanna go back on the street because Obie did within a couple weeks as we know that ultimately build over. And you sit there and look I'm responsible for the taxpayers need to get out here and I imagine trying to do that job will that tells you there's a and Charlie bakers talked about this says every governor in new England and is that there's not enough resources. For treating people. These young and if you talk to anybody that works IQ and a client who works. As a doctor in rehab in Ito if you. Heroin is the toughest drug that you know he he's treated alcoholism and history cocaine addicts marijuana act. He'll tell you in just about any doctor will tell you heroin is the truck toughest drug. And it it's also the most dangerous because the line between a what gets somewhat high and what kills someone is so thin it's not something. You know like marijuana where all of a sudden OK to smoke all day and right yeah you're not going to be able to do anything but you're going to be fine. With with open Hewitt and fortunately that line is so thin. And and and that's why you see such a big problem when they don't know what they're just that you you know lately ran a lot of times police with something else half the time it's fentanyl they didn't know it you know. It's might be stronger today than it was a week ago to nearly dead that's the that seems to be the problem. Speaking of drugs. Brockton dispensary. To offer statewide. Medical marijuana delivery order how long it'll be. Before we can just get non medical marijuana is marijuana is now legal in me it's legal recreational marijuana legal in Maine. Legal in Massachusetts. Wonder how long it'll be before I can download an app on my phone. And get my marijuana delivered to my house. I would guess next July once it's finally legal for a sale actually I would imagine that's that's how long it's going to be I public drawing and pay. For the Brockton one you know lately while the medical marijuana from Brockton is what thirty bucks. I don't know just the delivery fees that are the deliveries there him and a I would imagine eventually you can be able to get that down. Saying things like delivery for food like 799 called de you know he does expire Pretoria but you're ready to go a winner could be you like it is that the guy that's delivering Chinese food to the next door neighbor that's delivering humor want and he regrets I went over our head. I mean I would imagine that at some point a company like adored masters someone else that gets involved and says look if you want us deliver marijuana just the other guys deal licensed and we'll take care reform. It's remarkable I mean like this this is where. This is how lazy we have gotten in 27 team. That we now need to have our drugs delivered to us we couldn't even go find a drug dealer on a core what they're saying that the medical marijuana for a lot of the people they are debilitated. Deputy there in mobile. Which is a fair point there I think if we get the point which we will get to the point where we're seeing recreational marijuana delivered them I mean does come with a Rebecca garrido probably. You may be paid or maybe can combine your marijuana order. Are actually quality delay right did you you want the pizza delivered an hour that I was gonna suggest why don't we just make all Domino's locations if marrow our town might midfield. Voted down. I got five kids Mr. Bush regrets on the beat from. Let's talk a little bit about some of these trends here and here to watch join us some help with this is Jillian Berman who put together a great article in the Wall Street Journal. A little while ago and Gillian thank you for joining us today. It Joey and the title of the article is for US grad students overseas schools beckoned and I'm curious as to what some of the reasons are that US grad students are starting to look overseas a little bit more. And that it's cheaper Zocor a variety of reasons it can be less expensive to get a graduate degree abroad. First evolved a lot and for school heavily subsidized. There university though that tuition is cheaper even for students coming from the point country. And then all sell a lot of cases. The programs are shorter though you're doing a one year master's degree program and that day at your master's degree program that you be doing in the. Do those programs that they are shorter. Do they still cover the same material that you would donate two or three year course. Yet if you're looking at that comparable program though if you're looking at say an MBA abroad and a MBA here even with and it made it it will basically be the decree. Do those licenses and degrees from those foreign schools allow you. You perform the same type of work as if you had one from an American school. You have to be careful about that if you imagine having a career in the lap. Particularly if you're going to grad school for something quite late then so be held a medical. Oprah fashion for example if he wanted to be if you are confinement he. Often disagreed he'd have brought her pretty easily transferable the last. They might be coming back. Com and her. Becoming about it actually public option for the very heart to add to that school in the last. But if you wanna be a doctor or an aunt and you want a practice in the last it's gonna take a little bit more exit translate that degree. How many US students are using some of these foreign grad school programs now on what is that what's the comparison to watch historical numbers. Still in the past four or two years the number of US it and pursuing full degrees of bracket that I can include undergraduate degree that elk. I had gone. From 42000 to forty to about 47. And so it's not that not in at them on a huge huge number of diet is exceptionally gaining popularity. Are there any countries in particular that seemed to lobby seeing the greatest influx of US students. Still the use that back are. Still the hot places where US didn't study though you know kind of what you would expect the UK. Preempt can't places like that. But there are some countries that I. Are seen more US he would and that's in part because they're trying to recruit example Ireland recently locked launched a scholarship competition in the U lack. Where you know you that can compete for the cut for Ireland essentially paid for their graduate degree abroad and that's. The article wave toward the country cute you know educate Americans. And about. The opportunities. Did you say that Ireland is there they're paying for the entire program and a lot of these cases and. Well that is the national competition and today you know it's it's an apple put it in the particulate and pulled them out there doing it for a back. The idea behind the competition is cute cannery in track and you know in order and carry a lot of research on. Education and Ireland and why you might want that graduate degree there. Is that even if you don't. You'll hit it it will have accidentally piqued your interest and still a lot of cases even at. You don't get that alt scholarship but it will be cheaper. The decree there. Are good Gillian thank you very much for joining us today. I Julian Berman from MarketWatch in this a great article that was in the Wall Street Journal here. You know we talked about homebuilders and you know why we're not seem more home construction. And you know for the longest time I've speculated. That home's construction is lagging for a couple of reasons one lack of financing being available. Not sure that's actually case I talked to some banks and they they're happy to land on construction. And the other thing is is a new build house. And still make a profit I'm talking about house 400000 dollar house 300000 mark how can you build a house. And make a profit due by the way and B duo the engineer for the street in the sewer in the electricity he make a profit. And I think he might be able to but the problem is you can't find workers he tucked the developers. And it's a fragmented group negate the redo the or 40000. Real estate developers in the United States does not like he can. 21 company pulled the NC field. 30% of the market right woodland auto dealer. The industry is saying hey we can not fine electricians who can't find laborers we can't buy country we can't find workers. One in in the case where they and they might have to pay him 203040. Or 50% more than they did just a couple years ago. In order to get them on the job and keep them on the job and as a result. One of the things that you see now is. It starts to hit the low end of the cost spectrum become become an economical for them to be producing homes and back to EC right now. Is that Holmes with base prices above 400000 dollars and represent 68%. Of the market. In the US OK so that's in the US he tickled the northeast but it's higher than that much time but it probably eighty to 90% much so it's. It's such a challenging market to try to keep people in those entry level homes just because. Between the labor in the united regulation and so when the cost at up to the point where you say. Look up spending. 50000 dollars on rags and spending another 100000 dollars on labor I can't sell this property for 350 because when I include you know buying the land and in the materials. I'm spending 340 so I have no room for error. Yeah that's YE. At least in our region you stand deceive me mentions though because you know they're in they're trying to sell new houses. We must have seen this when your outlook you know hop a lot of homes were 1000005 if you want a new construct well in all the new construction that I saw out there. It was all bigger than what we want to know you know it's it was a lot of construction in the 354500. Square foot range announced I'm going. Even have a dog right when he 3500 square feet the year average age of the construction worker today is 42. In a lot of construction workers went to work in the oil business after the real estate market crash here can remember real state house housing crash. Back in college 2007. That's when the shovels stopped. And a lot of those guys went to work in North Dakota they went to work in in the oil field. They haven't come back and that's it's confusing to the contractors are saying okay the oil business is slowing down so these workers should be coming back but you know. So yeah see you know it's kind of like trucking and I think you know the if you talk to trucking executives will save you there's no workers. They're workers used to the high pay higher wage anymore same thing with carpenter's there's a lot of carpenters out there but they're not gonna work for 25 dollars now they they're don't want. 3032. To be fair on the trucking side I continued to lie I've talked to a number. People in that industry in the last couple months and it and it. Tomorrow pretty strongly to what you've been saying where they have a tough time finding people who can passel the drug test now. The real problem for them aid is in net. I suspect that's gonna continue to be proud because they screen for marijuana in Europe they have to when you have that kind of cargo and that value. You have to do you know and beauty you don't want somebody who's smoking marijuana. Drive in a million dollar with a cargo no you don't down the pike you know you just that and that's the big fear that they have. You know idea I did promise that we would have a conversation. Regarding oil and I was all. Determined that oil would be tracing down in price today because all the information I have suggests that oil should be trading. In price but. Oil is actually up one point 68% just over fifty dollars a barrel while been what three or four weeks since we've been over fifty. Yeah I wanna statement maybe 56. Been awhile since we've seen oil trading over fifty dollars a barrel. We're gonna talk about with the US is doing to keep oil prices depressed you will be surprising to many view. If you know the answer to that question text us at 68680. That's a text number person listener. With the correct answer wins a prize pack that includes teacher to pens and to travel coffee mugs. Which Reagan administration official declared that he was in control at the White House following the shooting of President Reagan. Our job let's talk a little bit about oil US oil exports surged steals more OPEC share couldn't happen to a nicer group products. Yeah and and what you're seeing here is that the US saw last week. Some more in a million barrels a day of crude out of the country. It's the third biggest export week ever double the average that was exported on a weekly basis back in points sixteen. And it's also the third time this year that US exports exceeded a million barrels a day. So you are clearly seeing. That. The the dynamics are changing somewhat as far as. And the aware global production is coming from and also with you the US now able export crude you you're starting to see. That become desirable in some cases just because depending on where to ship it to may actually be cost competitive with what you're seeing coming out of open. You know there it it's I think it's good news in many ways it's it's good news in terms of keeping oil prices depressed. It's good news is we're not buying as much oil from our enemies. The bad news I guess is if you own a lot of energy stocks. Hasn't been very and then got a good two or three year for energy stocks. No I mean it's it's been a challenging time own a lot of them that the larger more stable ones have held up a little bit better here Exxon Mobil's of the world and so forth. But it has certainly been a challenge. Overall when you look at the picture there and in particular. You know we continue to see in the 01 of the stories we're going to talk about was how stockpiles continue to grow yes crude stockpiles last week. Reached one point 226. Billion barrels that is up to 48 million barrels from the week before so you are at an all time high in terms of overall. Stockpiles at this point in a particular mode all all of that growth. Was effectively on the commercial side going from 500 in three million barrels the. By 34 so how should we anticipate. OPEC will. The and expand their production cuts at the indeed we know Russians cheating. Right Russia's cheating and in terms of the idea we detail she. You're Russia Russia always sheets when they enter into the agreement underlie the bar wondering why they get invited to meet the I can't OPEC really pushing for steeper odds just because the saudis in the resort most of those anyways I just don't know they have. They've got the time it take a step further they just don't wanna cut production too much more on their side. Which could lead to a collapse in price I mean it there's a lot of chatter that you could see oil back down in the high thirties low forties by the end of the year which I side time we saw that was August you know thirty which it if that's the case I say. You know it's well puppet you're talking about. Texas or Pennsylvania North Dakota the places that are more involved. But if you're looking at a purely new perspective you sit there and say. Take about two down dollar radio deal that all day. And insurer match dot com. Citizens Bank themselves in a little bit hot water. Yes Citizens Bank. Find themselves with the couple problems due to what they called their citizens checked out. Program and what they're seeing here. Is apparently eleven former and current branch employees say they falsely produced information. Regarding the bank's financial sector program pretty much what they did is they made up customers that they said they did these checkups on. That they actually never met with the never did anything. Remains to be seen if any money actually changed hands as a result of this it would it. It's unclear as to whether it was a solid the world apart were hurt it doesn't sound like that. But obviously it's a similar type of thing where maybe you have a lack of control inside institution. And maybe just need to revise the incentive structure of a lot of these managers are people that these branches. On the campaign trail you'll recall that president trump promised to two era now have to with a terrible agreement. And the United States is being treated unfairly in North American Free Trade Agreement. Is having second thoughts on. Yeah and this is a a draft proposal. That is being Cirque circulated through congress right now was put together by the US trade representatives office. Its position is appointed by Donald Trump and what you're seeing here is that a lot of the changes that you're seeing. Are relatively small in the broad scheme of things. In particular. Keeping a lot of the more controversial provisions including an arbitration panel let's investors on any of the three nations circumvent local courts bug I. But some of the things that you would see potentially changing. Are some provisions. Related to. Talking about how to how to deal with imports in particular and so talking about trying to reinstate paerson is a quote. In the event that imports cause here is injury or serious injury to domestic industries. And so. It's striking a balance here and to be honest if he's the pines. Revisions that you'd you'd be seen have to. It actually makes cents yeah you know it's I think it's more tweaking and refining. As opposed to throw it out completely. And I think it doing things like that. It helped to. Again app does not perfect there's some real issues with that but I think trying to mitigate the impact. Offshoring and you know things along those lines. I think make a lot of sense in trying to figure out ways this. You know help people been hurt by outsourcing those the kinds of things that you want to sleep at the end of the day. To get rid of NAFTA right we export so much to Mexico at this point so there are definitely. Definitely going to be some give and take it you're talking about some reforms just to strengthen protection against the dumping of Illumina reports into the US member Illumina that they he would steal exactly so I think if you build in some protections there and do some weeks just how people. Who have been hurt by outsourcing of jobs. A productive conversation. I'm. Early in favour of a lot of the things that are being talked about. Never lost your bags at the airport here guys gotten the year travel destination in this. Bags aren't there we all right and you know the way it works is. You get to the airport and you go to the escalator and down the escalator in the in the terror cells there in your looking for your bags and ten minutes go by it's not there when he minutes go by. Thirty minutes go by you're the last guy standing there in your bag on there that's all that's happened all everybody right. Well then what you would do as you'd have to go to a desk you need to lots of paperwork and you say okay on staying at the Hilton hotel in Laguna Beach and to send them over when when they get here well the whole thing could take it good hour. To get through the process of loss banks. Well now the airlines are changing that. And I think this is a change for the better. If it is but here here's what's interesting when airlines are doing. Is that a number of carriers that are audio or travelers when they're checked baggage doesn't make it. To their destination. By big question is if they know the baggage is going to make its destination why it they get it right. When they know well they know what happens is they text view as a passenger. And say oh it's your bags didn't make it on the plane in Maine with is that plane took off because all the bags attached. They know that that bag missed the plane so the Euro the Euro on your way to California in your bags are still sit in Boston. They know that now what they're doing users to their guns and you text message mayors say OK your bags missed the plane. What are you going to be. It will shift the bags to you at the hotel as opposed to you winning back yourself and yet that there are allowing you to do a lot of this electronically -- to stop and bill lot of claimants and yes. And the thought is that within the next year to human decency. Through some of the phone apps being able to submit baggage claim or lost baggage. Claims and things like that to say you don't even have to go. You know to computer anything right that would Alter your phone and certainly even do that now when you mr. connection yeah I think you're the next light years they'll they'll both you and your next flight the night. Wait in line talk in the customer service where exactly and so I do think it's going to be an improvement here for a lot of folks are so you don't have to again spend that time. You know waiting in line deal with other passengers who have lost their bags that look you gotta get on today in a sense of the airline electronically and then you crematory ago.
