This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chunks of you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. Don't look at your 401K. Account balance they'll look at your brokerage account don't look at your individual retirement accounts balanced why. So anyway. In the past they've given you that advice when the market was down and said don't worry about it give it time to come back duel over manage your money. Well now it's just the opposite extreme are the costs of hitting 20000. On the Dow Jones Industrial Average. I guess my advice would be if you wanna take a peek at your for a one game ahead. Take a look at your individual retirement accounts that go ahead to take a peek at. But then don't look again but it. Don't get used to be you know it it's reaching some pretty lofty levels hi everybody it's buried truck with you here on Wednesday in. I don't know whether we're gonna hit point I mean get that question all day long we've hit thousands. I don't know yet I I would like to hit 20000 today. But it's it's impossible for. I mean I would say were more likely to 20002. Well that I'm honest that's helpful that's that's I'm gonna say that yeah it's going out Arnold I'm huge element you know it's it's it's very difficult but. This is a market that is rallied since the election now about 9% and it's been a strong rally. Over the last five weeks to this point in Santa Claus doesn't even showed San corporate credit book reader in the middle of the twelve days Christmas right now we have officially started. The twelve days of Christmas trees start to get potentially that Santa Claus rally coming. The one thing that the potentially throw a little bit of water on that buyer. This afternoon. Well I don't know O Rick could you defend comes out they raise rates a quarter points I didn't say anything to the statements one an interest. And what do you say it's what can they possibly say they don't know. I got as at a wedding over the weekend. And a number people last and how much help with the Fed raise rates next year who the heck knows he you don't know it it would be if I asked that question to be an unfair question. Because we don't know what tax policy and economic policies it'll play. The the only thing that I think you may see from them is since the last time they came out and had a meeting and spoke of you have a dramatic shift in expectations for inflation and growth that the market is Burris. Now and I'm curious if they speak. Of that in any way shape or form. Just because what you have seen a significant bond sell you have seen a significant re pricing of that you've seen. A significantly. Increased expectation. Of inflation. And the PPI data that we got out this morning and kind of supports that you've no doubt they'll sales next year retail sales were weak current. Retail sales were particularly strong. You know came in below expectations there but PPI the Producer Price Index how much it costs. Producers of goods to buy their supplies effectively. Came in. Higher than expected now in place right Mullen over mark came in at point four even on the court number stripping out food and fuel payment point four compared expectations. Of point 2% we had that coming in there. Industrial production came in a little bit below where are we expected as well last month was revised higher so. All in all it. The data that we get coming on the economy shows pretty consistent growth has done it the last three to four months have been a pretty decent and other real estate market is slow down speed that you figure out what sixty basis point seven basis points. On the thirty year fixed rate mortgage. Does that have. He negative effect on homes. It's going to have a bigger effect away from urban areas and close them urban airs at thinker relatively insulated because they're gonna have continued demand you've got a lot of winning isn't areas wages go up. I think urban areas are gonna continue to be pretty strong from home sale perspective. If you are you know 45 minutes to an hour away from urban areas and getting out pass those you know coast suburbs and so forth. I think you start to have some questions about whether or not it affects prices there because those bought those buyers tend to be borrowing more money yeah number one as a percentage of the home price. And so as a result they're going to be affected a little bit more. By a change in rates and things. I got some questions that have come in from listeners I've missed the rise of news to 20000 dollars or 20000 points on they'd out should I invest now. Well I guess you know I'm I'm stolen that hey you know I'm gonna get paid on Friday and out of my paycheck will come my 41 K contribution. And it's going to go into the stock mark what about you turkeys and invest. A stolen aka mr. I'm not I'm not throwing additional money in the market right now but yet if it's a failure or away and I'm not I'm not taking a chunk and saying hey that's the day on line it affect. Should I use this milestone moment as an opportunity to take some money off of the table. Here's here's my advice if you are who are if you got a tuition bill. Do and I remember those days like they are yesterday as curious. And you'd need to write a check for 30000 bucks for your kid to go to school next semester yet probably wouldn't be a bad idea to appeal a little bit of money off if you're buying a car in January. An appeal little bit of money off fear your stock purple. If you're paying for wedding next June. Yeah that's probably not a bad idea that it to pull some money up but I don't think you grow. And in that change or overall investment philosophy just because the Dallas hitting 20000. Is earning thing I should do. T the Dow hitting 20000 news. Somewhat meaningless I mean really we should be talking about the completion in the Dow thirty company. Thousand arbitrary number and it's you know again why is in 20000 you gotta get into the math of how they actually get there it's. It's a number that sounds nice because humans like big round numbers in 20000. To ground number there. As you mention the S&P. Look it's a much broader base of companies to much broader. Collection of industries that you have there I tend to use the S&P when talking about where the market's going beginning a step further and start easing some of the bigger things the Russell 2000 and so forth I mean you've got other options out there yup if you want to look at them. You know in general I try to avoid using the Dow just because. It's not the best toys thirty company of our economies 500 aren't exactly exactly why. This is a valid question is sometimes we get dumb questions sometimes we get really good questions. Why have the rest of the markets not gonna pay if you look at Europe if you look at London if you look at Japan if you look at. A lot of the foreign stock markets. In some cases there's been no growth and in others it's been very muted. I think the biggest reason is that the dollar strength. You know has been there when you look at how the dollar's move since November 8. You know and I'm just I just pulled of the US dollar index which compares to pretty much a basket of international currencies. The US dollar index in that time has moved from about 97. Up to a 101. Of dollar strengthened by about 4%. Over the last month and a half but that's that's why you're seeing a lot of other markets not necessarily rallying the same way because the expectation. Is that the money's going to be flowing into the US where's it come from then it's coming out of those other market. And yet and that's good news and further erode their currencies at try to look at with the euro's doing. And here the dollar sex on the Euro and the British pound and dollar 27 in those are. See you do it does beg the question you know if you're of the mindset that gee the Dow sitting 20000 it's too hot. And go outside of the United States to invest my money because I think he's better eight it's stocks are cheaper John Moody made that point. In news and last week he said you know very stocks are expensive in the United States but the dirt cheap in Europe. Valid point. They are cheap in Europe but sometimes stocks cheap for a reason right and it's Ian that's the thing that you always have to figure out. When you're investing look you can go back to a value a couple examples just to give you loss in comparison to go back to earlier this year in February. And Chesapeake V big natural gas company. Here was down to a dollar fifty Mary was it cheap because it was going out of business or was cheap because people thought it was going out of business well today. It's at seven dollars and fifty cents a you have to make that determination by the same token. You can go back and you can look at. You know what what's gone it's gone out of business and Alaska let's look at RadioShack okay RadioShack you go back to. Yes summer of 2013. Was trading incredibly cheaply than they did that dome Super Bowl out in 2014 and was a stock trading cheaply because it was a value no was because it was actually going out of business when it's here now. Sears today are they trading cheaply because people were under estimating them or are they being properly valued things can be cheap for multiple reasons. The good investor figures out which reasons are legitimate and which are and they don't listen to people say other companies going out of business because you don't know there on the news. And a tree well you don't and that's the you have to. You have to have a very good filter today to figure out what is and always right. And sometimes you get investors out there there's an avid outdoors with 30000 meanwhile they're selling. So you'll buy their stock is there this Eric Solomon that the best thing you can do when you're investing as a blinders you don't listen to anyone else you'd trust you you know you you trust your ability award and react because when you're listening to other people and you're investing in you don't know what their own biases are you don't know what their own. Investments are that it's very dangerous just to listen to people. That are out. Chatting it up out there about what they're doing because oftentimes they may not be doing. The next segment Ritter talked about the unemployment rate. Our next guest is name's Doug short wolf very regular poll question although it is our our poll question today is will the Dow hit 40000 today. Pretty simple questions are cast your vote right now a financial change showed our comp. I'm gonna say the milk. All right thank you put he put me down as an ice it vote. Why did yeah. He became a marked down for Bono and four and I do that we'll put out 120000 I don't know who the our guest thinks that the unemployment rate is artificial and that we shouldn't be. Our guest is Doug short from advisor perspectives they were talking about the unemployment rate I don't carry you. It why should we not trust the unemployment rate is four point 6%. I've been reading these reports coming out of the Bureau of Labor Statistics religiously for the last forty years. They're good question and doubt in that answer would really need to understand what went in and implement rate really. So just just take a second let's let's review so the Census Bureau every month conducts the survey for the Department of Labor. You know that they are the good people count this since your. So they conduct the survey of about 60000 households. And those household or not just contacted one they're contacted over an eighteen month here. They now have to top level. In ointment is divided like this. You've got the civilian non institutional population of everybody. Ages sixteen and about who's not. In military or not an institution hospital. Prison prison yeah. OK so now within that you've got the labor force. In an out or would age does that go up decent start to sixteen does it go up to like hunt. Have egg goes up to date. We have. It will get back to that question and that. The total labor force. Is that pop part of the population. That consists of two categories of people people who wore imported. And people or unemployed but made some effort during the past four weeks to find employment and that sort of look at. And I mean any kind of looking for you called for in the same age you know anybody's got a job accounts. So okay implement rate. In the most recent more dropped from four point 9% to four point 6% that's the lowest since August 2007. Over nine years ago. Now here's the problem. There was a decline of 387000. Unemployed people. And they're no longer employed three hundred eighties and about it here's a problem. Only a 160000. Gross in the import. In other words 59% of that drop in the unemployment. Was the result of people giving up looking for work. Note how many of those people giving up were eighty years old. Good question. And that's why won't we track one mile pace this is not just the headline unemployment rate that we. Focused on what we consider the court employment group and that's ages 25 to 54. What at what cherry pick that number well they have to start at 25 that you're leaving you know all the volatility of teen age and the college age workforce people who were in and out of the work force so for. Also by dropping it that these after thirty years yeah aged 545. And above is still consider these. Because there you've got people who on our. Early retirees. You've got a lot of households that com. Multiple incomes you know the classic two income household becomes of one income council is kids are raised we don't really need but to be working that's when. OK so the core import it full time work. In November. Good news. Yeah unemployment rate dropped four point two to 4%. At least good news the popular press record you know check this out. The labor force shrank by 231000. People in that. There were 9%. Not 9000. Or import it in and 220000. You were on import. They just dropped off the work. In your talking about 2554. Here which is it or are trying years we have to work during those years. What do you attribute that to. Well. That the Great Recession ended in May of 2000 and the business cycle began expanding them later in June 2000. Come the unemployment rate. For the prime force. 9%. Seven years later it's dropped four. And what we're seeing is about one point. 15. Million people had to be dropped Utley reports that this group why is that. Complicated and we don't have a good way to to drill down into the specifics that it largely has to do I think we have. Technology. Replacing the need for people. And we know how that's true it manufacturing. Robotics its efforts that are. All outsourcing offshoring and outsourcing but that's also happening and in more on professional types of employment as well. Think think think over the years when you when you're used to go to bank and you would be to have lines of people intelligent server. I'm definitely going to a bank in more so than deposit a check rarely do I ever have a physical check I take a photograph of what. This deposit that is the so what does that does that that implement. Right Doug jot that chuck has a question for the day early and Doug relayed that you're also starting to see that happen. At higher and higher positions inside of even you look at the financial industry and State Street right here in Boston. Announced they're going to be laying off 7000 people by 20/20. We're not talking about bank tellers were talking about accountants and so forth that there automating their jobs or you're even starting to get in the white collar positions at this point. And I scenes similar types of forecasts for global legal profession. That all all information now that is that the this is all electronic. Think the kind of headcount that it took to do the research needed to numbers to build the case. Can be done in a matter of minutes now with computer technology. Doug we have to get out but I appreciate your time very much in and what you're saying simply validates what chuck has been espousing effort. Probably two years now thank you very much. Doug short from advisors perspectives and it's. EU could talk about this gate 2554. Category for so long as I can remember this has been a major point of conservative vote. It is and I think the big question that we have to answer I always used the farming statistics as a guide for where we're because you go back. A hundred years OK we had five times the number of farmers that we had today. But we only produced about a quarter of what we do to them. So from my perspective you've got rid of 80% of the farming workforce but you've quadruple production at this point. And we're going through a similar. Transition now rate you've got three and a half million cashier's. That are gonna lose their jobs right it how long it is like is it two years five years but there did anybody who works as a cashier there going to be a template. Very likely if you're driving for a living or at the end and tell you the story. After the break about an industry that's gonna change dramatically. In a very short period of time it's not even there as we said State Street is laying off 7000 accountants warehouses you know like you talk. Again you're you're looking at the lower end up looking. Look what happens if you are making nifty 7500000. Dollars a year those positions. You can save a lot more money laying off people making 100000 than people making two point good point. Good point when we come back we're gonna deliver tomorrow's news today you'll hear about this story tomorrow everywhere else we can hear about it. Right here on the financial exchange. Truck I wanted to talk to you about this this is tomorrow's news today every day try to find something you'll be seen in the news tomorrow. Amazon has made their first commercial drone delivery. In. Did this morning. In England in the first one it was a thirteen minute flight covering about two miles. And the delivery was an Amazon fire streaming device as well some popcorn now overdose. No burritos but we do not have I don't have a waits on the package I don't know how much exactly that when it weighed but. Look at here I mean ever one they're doing it in England everyone laughter Jeff Bezos three years ago when he said this was gonna happen and it's happening. Yeah well it's just so much more effective think about the impact that hats on traffic. They did previously that package would have been delivered by UPS truck in your driveway which is you know big brown truck we don't know marks. Well it would have been in your driveway in the dogs would have been bark and now the dog to be barking at the drones like great but the the delivery. You know you're. I I can think of so things have been delivered. That could easily be delivered by drone. So the one thing I worry about what this is what happens when ever went starts using drones and alms and you've just got these things flying overhead all the time like what if you don't want. Drones flying over your property in Charlotte I American unity of the cases this is the future you know that one of the reasons that this is happening in England. Is America is so old fashioned English is more progressive blogger but look what if I don't want drones flying over my property old time like what if I am lake right next to the Logan Airport drones you know. Whitney talk like that but the no late what are what if I don't vote nickel they'll be just like silent. We'll be out there like it's it's not even about silently when a bomb out throttling it's not even the buzzing it's just what if I'm out trying to lake enjoy an afternoon. And I've got twenty drones a minute flying over my head like. I don't want that now like it's that's not something that I see is a net positive for. That's something where I start throwing rocks at the drones name and yet he self control and get a gift. I can get plagued. Again there there has to be some way to like opt out of them flying overhead for this probably the rules in terms of how high they have to be in with the rules are maximum right now. The VF aides are rules are a maximum of 400 feet so like if all of a sudden I've got you know be a little easier talking about one of the negatives. A related to drone deliver let's talk about the positives take taught to think about what it does. To traffic congestion if if all the sudden you can take cars and trucks off of the road. Were diminished their use. Through drone to. How much and and how many drones are going to be flight again if it is a line of drones over property. Why would I want that you know let me about a pharmacy I I go to my pharmacy once a month to pick up my prescription drug. Or would if I could get that and it's a little. You know with the Pope Derek weighs next to nothing is absolutely no reason that couldn't be delivered to me. By drone I'm not saying it can't and idea of paying for it I start my. You know gas fired truck and I burned fuel driving to about big truck and you don't I might hit you go to electric car. You've got your tiny little bull like. All I'm saying is there like these things have consequences you zealots is going to be a draw here and there and then all of a sudden you've got drones going over your your house day in nightly. I don't know if I want that I don't know if I want a world where it is drones overhead all the day all you know all day. And you can't just give Selig sunset fortunately now I'd just don't know like I what I want I I genitalia I. Think this is coming. The if you talk to the business community he talked somebody in the pharmacy business is the perfect example the pharmacy businesses. Something where how many people drive to the drug store to pick up there. There prescription drugs the answer is a whole lot unity CVS are right Nader Walgreens and the busiest part of the story is the pharmacy. People. Gathering at the back to the store pick up their first. No doubt about it but again I I feel and you know what happens when these crashes. What you what happens and keep in mind in the US right now yeah you can't even fly drone without control and the line of sight. So but that's tactic or making a mistake that was the point of trying to make these other countries China Asia. Great Britain. Is more progressive and allowing these drones in the they're willing to take the risk of something going well we're not that's what we don't have just. I think we need to be able to waive those risks and I don't think we can right now that's that's the thing we've never on this and just say that's going to be great save money you get a quicker will okay but what's called style like I'm not talking. Mud dollar cost them talking look if I'm living next to Amazon warehouse and all of a sudden. I just have drones flying overhead all the Dana can be you know in there crashing a mile long because you know it's not gonna work a 100% of the time and it what what ever works under I think about the the alleviation of car accidents for. Maybe think about if you take if you decreased traffic by 10% on the road okay think about your running along and almost in a drone falls on your head is it payment this late to put it you think it's such that they say no I'm just saying like the like here's a young guy you're opposed the technology this is the no I'm opposed to just people saying that there's no problems like. Problems just like self driving cars to be problems with self driving cars but it's. It's the future but it's but these are problems that we have to think to me and I'd just not willing to say oh yeah this going to be great Oprah like. These are real issue I don't want a million drones flying overhead they imagine if you look at this guy at all easier drones. I don't. And it is only packages Amazon delivers a day but if they if. That happens people will be up in arms in the vote against it in that's a nice thing about living in a democracy and voted away. They don't forget to call and receive your night 2017. Siemens plans to add as many as 700 jobs at the wall pool play this is good news. Good news big news here it's going to be a 300 million dollar expansion of this Walpole campus. And they are going to be adding these jobs. Over the next several years here at least 400 potentially up to 700 in the next decade. And this is out with a Siemens is going to be getting about a four point two million dollar tax break in order. Add these jobs here. City and state millions number Walpole from the some from the state city and state and you know really when when you take a look at this these are you know good high paying jobs there in industries that are. Growth industries a lot of you know medical diagnostics and trying to figure out what types of jobs sounds like a lot of engineering jobs right we'll science and engineering it looks like engineering as well as you know some administration jobs obviously just handled the had increased size there but. You know these are these are good jobs here and this is a facility that was last expanded back in 2008 it's about 500000 square feet right now and they're going to be coming close to doubling the size that they haven't finalized the exact. Sized numbers yet it's good news is it's too bad that you couldn't coax them into going to a place like Worcester or spring fielder. Hartford Connecticut where there's more economic depression. You know one of the things that occurs to detect as we talk about these jobs are getting getting created but often times Girardi around areas where there's a with unemployment rate in the Greater Boston area it's going to be 3% three now I want peace prize. It's I mean there's. If you wanna job did you go to these. No unemployment no it wears you go to Worcester or Springfield. IV or Hartford right there's a lot of people it's tough it's each. Can an egg situation it's like if you want to go out the you've kind of got to stick your neck out there and say hey this is where the jobs are going to mean come out this way. Because it's not a it's not they're not areas that are necessarily in high demand mean by young people coming out of college right now and so some kinda asked to stick their neck out and say hey we're gonna put up you know we're gonna set up shop here. And you just don't you tell the companies doing that no fortunately do it in the areas that are already booming. This is very Armstrong and I'm joined by estate planning attorney potluck ski from the law from Cushing and dole and we're talking about gifting assets away taught what are the major advantages. To transferring assets. To. The revoke able trust as opposed to the child. And and quite frankly. A revote Coble trust or an irrevocable trust you get the same advantages okay well almost one protects it from the nursing home in 1000. That irrevocable provides nursing home protection the revolt global doesn't but by I think that the answer here is that by not. Putting an asset in the child's name vs putting an atrocity really what you're trying to distinguish. And by keeping the asset in your name or any revoke aboard irrevocable trust. You are the boss used in control you decide how long you wanna live in the property you decide if you wanna sell you decide if you wanna rent. You decide how to invest your money. For goodness sake so it's still yours and in your control and it avoids probate. Reduces the state taxes and provides a nice blood line distribution to your children when you die. Giving it to the children out right now you'll lose all control. And all the tax benefits that go with using it re vulnerable or near culpable trust. And you expose it to their creditors just not a good idea. I would set up some kind of a trust even gifting trust is better than gifting it to them in their own hands. Educate yourself. We're joined now by Travis Miller from morning star here to do little stock talk with us Travis thank you very much for joining us tonight. I think you know drugs we're going to be talking about today. Utilities right now are still really expensive and we thought that the interest rate rise here at bond sell off would. Help bring prices down for utilities but we just haven't seen over the last two months so what are our topic right now PPL. Corporation. And still like that again and one of the few picks right now that this cheap enough we think to bite. What exactly do you like about the business that they run. SO PPO almost fully regulated date have operations in the UK. And also in the US and Pennsylvania Kentucky regions. And you know we think the stocks really been. Beat up on the UK. Issues over the last year Braxton concerns but they really have no exposure Renault at their core business in the UK. Biggest deliver the energy they go firm beat generation side to the customer side and I have no explode or to Europe or any other kind of economic considerations that might be impacted by Brooks at. So we think that's one reason like that's been oversold relative to the urged the group. Yield do you get if you're buying stock like this and are typically when investors look to utilities that key area for them. Yes just one of the really attractive thing we thank right now PP yelled yielding just about four and a half percent at these prices mean think about even after the treasury. Bond selloff we've now got treasury tenure traders into one half percent here picking up 200 basis points. Extra yield right now and and Florida have percentages. Well above. What the averages right now for utilities. In nice yield could grow out of it and very stable. Who'd be at a company like this what are the potential downsides. Going forward for the. And they're probably announcement currency headwind. They're given their size and our operations in the UK transferring back to the US. And the other potentials any kind of regulatory. Push to act they've got a sixteen billion dollar. Capital investment plan between the UK in the US operations sixteen billion dollars next five years. And to do that that means great prizes for all customers. In their regions so that's going to be important election as to whether regulators allowed them to invest some money and raise rates across urged. Very good Travis thank you very much for joining us tonight. Travis Miller for Morningstar talking rep PPL corporation with a ticker PPL somebody else was asking me about Duke Energy. Duke's been huge fallen down not 77 dollars a share gates it's bound up in the last couple days actually I think maybe some people looked at in the low seventies and said hey that's a pretty good buying opportunities it was down as low as I think about 72. It's silly it's it's rallied in the last week or so now. But duke is a very strong company with you know pretty competitive dividend as well open that. Four point 4%. As Steen two stories in this week. About countries. Getting rid of large denominations. Of their currency when is Venezuela which is a country just. Devastated. In the other when they had a currency anymore and India. India is getting rid of their yeah currency. And both countries are doing it to basically try to undermine the underground economy in the illegal economy yet or whatever I can gather. They're doing it for what they claim the same reasons India is this sense I get in the is doing it to actually try to crack down on illicit goods in and drug trafficking and things like that. And in you know that the underground economy. Venezuela would they appear to be doing is cracking down on it. In order to prevent people from actually buying goods that they can't get anywhere else and because a lot of cases in Venezuela right now you're stores don't have any pro at it and there's nothing in the there's no toothpaste there's no letters that there's nothing. In this storm is a border raids and I have to turn to the black market in order to get just basic necessities so what Venezuela is doing. Strip saying no you can't do that anymore now and it. In Venezuela's case it's going to directly affect people's ability to live. In India's case they're just trying to kind of get some of these things out of the shadows and back out into the open where they can deal. Has anybody ever done this before it and we were seen an economy get riches I'm trying to think of like I would we do you guys care if they need steadily can't have anything larger than a ten dollar bill in the United States like I wouldn't act could careless what I care. No not really. I'm would be the societal. Changes that are made as a result I would think. It because I I think a lot of cash isn't a lot of cash used for illegal activity illegal business activities prostitution drugs. Gambling. Every gust of dumb people like what was Eliot Spitzer was using wired for answers for those things so yeah. You know he let business expenses 5000 dollar deficit they and obviously got you can't carry that kind of cast around in New York it's just it's not good. But yeah I mean it it isn't that the light again if that logic is sound and I am I'm listening to this sort of thing. And Andy the people are very upset. By the fact that they in India Indian Venezuela but I think because. Both of these government did it overnight they said basically a couple days to turn in your doubt high currency yeah so imagine in the United States if they said well you've got 72 hours to turning your twenty dollar bills and hundred dollar bills I don't think I haven't. People lose their minds. You see a ton of people is completely losing their minds is what the after it's done I wonder with the affected they the it's if it's news wonderful social experiment to watch these foreign control in there what it does it improves your ability to collect taxes because you have clear record keeping of efforts exactly. You know that as those of us or playing by the rules would we embrace that. Yes because you would effectively you're no longer subsidizing those people who are committing tax for a right did the people that are working under the table right Dave the idea off the books employees. All the sudden that becomes a very difficult transaction to demand in Japan five dollar bills it's about trying to do that yeah. Yeah here's here's a 1005 dollar bills. I'll be up in two months today we we need to follow up on that story and he Wear those countries are. Six months from now a year from now and don't be surprised if this starts coming to develop nations is it just makes sense I mean that there's been a big push. To try to get to the hundred dollar bill in the US Donald Trump might pay I could see him saying it. Because it from a government standpoint great what a great way to increase your tax because. The the hundred dollar bill is the single biggest the single most common bill is used in illegal drug trafficking around the world. It makes it 80% of all the US currency in circulation that two thirds of those notes are held outside the U what snow. And you know right. We're talking about gifting because it's Christmas what happens Todd if you give your home to your child and later on you decide you wanna sell back home. Yes this is another problem with gifting while it feels so Gooden especially this time of year it it it just such a loss of control. That that you don't think about you think you're children would never hurt you but if you gave it to your children understand folks if you retained no interest in that property. They can keep well in Dayton beat me her you unintentional. They are kind of business failure and bankruptcy car accident divorce. Some other legal proceeding that causes them to lose the house that you gave them that's right so. That is so when you put it that way very not only did it hurt you because you don't have the house that you wanna live in the hurt temperature so it's. Helpful to expose what you're hoping to be their future inheritance. That there creditors any time sooner than you need to let's face it if my parents wanted to give me their house now I'd be like hole. I don't need I don't want him let's put it in a trust let's do something more creative. It's so that they can still be yours and you can still control it. The question of the day is will the Dow hit 20000. Well it will some boy Aaron it's gonna do today here on the my gosh I've been getting. Peppered with questions about the Dow Jones Industrial Average I don't know why or talk about the SEC PS threes down or 2267. And oil. Quietly trading at 5373. Per barrel gold and 1165. And now I everybody's Berrian truck with you here. It's a Wednesday. And I don't know that. I have. Hate to say this but generally fair either if it is 20000. Then a bad thing the thing that's dumb number it just doesn't matter. That's 61 half dozen knows that gets a lot of excitement that I don't even have a doubt 20000 cap you what I've got underwear. You have doubt 20000 under you better believe custom ordered even better and better. Most Americans support he'd leave for work this according to a poll that was done and I can understand that. The the vast majority of people polled. It was 82%. Said that they would like to see legislation government legislation. That allows paid time off for medical and and we reasons. 95% of Democrats in favor of this 70% of Republicans so it appears to have broad based support. I wonder if US business owners the same question what percentage of them especially small business owners. Feel the same way because the big business for IBM it's not a huge deity got 200000 employees on people want to hear you put him over there no big deal. But that your small businesses as ten employees okay it's a big problem to a home. Have this mandatory leave. All of a sudden you've got to bring in two new people who you don't have understaffed portraying the mob get them trained more poignant that paved track and then you gotta pay them so. For a small business it has an outsize impact potentially just because you have the law of large numbers saying that always to meet people are gonna get pregnant in a given year. You can have a ton of people in one year. And I'm not opposed to saying hey you know don't go take time off then but when he plays the same mandate and a small businesses he dual large one. It hurts those small businesses and as such you pretty much giving bargaining power to large businesses over the small ones now naivete. I. I don't I support the idea just how do you execute I I don't know how you do it on a small scale need the ten. Person company here at the five person company right in in most people when you look around most people actually worked for small businesses they don't most people don't work for IBM or Fidel so the way that I could see it working is let's say that your business below exercise or whatever needs to get a tax credit for something like that person you know so that there's ways that you can work and so if your business with less than 25 employees. And you have you know someone at the office they get a point 500 dollar tax credit to help to cover the cost of something it's a big number immunity get somebody who's out for I don't know twenty weeks sixteen weeks of what was American Express we talked about it they're doing twenty weeks of paid maternity big chunk and and I don't think your. You're average person needs you know half a year necessarily but even if you're talking twelve when you're talking three months there you're paying someone for three months your pain you know 10121520. Granderson and depending on the exact position. Hey yeah you got to find some way that you can deal with that for small businesses it's tough so it's something where maybe you say look. Neo government's gonna give you 5000 dollars to cover you know portion of those expenses to make it easy. Harvard had a good year Harvard had 6473. Applications. For. They want people wanted to go to school there to 6473. People want through their lives away and 6000 that's up from 6167. Of those applicants fourteen and a half percent gained acceptances vs fourteen point 8%. Last. Why people would go to a second rate schools that have a great school like Dartmouth Harvard is still considered I would isn't it considered to be the best school in the world. New best Bryant. That you may say lay odds it's it's at that it is probably four schools that I put there put Harvard at Oxford and when Stanford and MIT. Kind of those are kind of my tighter interchange and I say lending terms of the brand I always think of Harvard is having the superior brain. They just bought yeah I mean it the words I would like to say I can't say on air with regards their brand but it and think the they go on to say they'll in the story. That there's no benefit. To a kid applying early decision. Which is contrary to what I remember when my kids were playing college meet the if you applied early decision to a school. As I remember it it improves your odds of getting into that school is a school said well we know if you are playing early decision and we accept you your public. So if from what I gather there's no statistical difference in terms of how many people the percentage they accept early verses regular decision. But it does indicate that you want to go there and so you may end up being one of the students they prioritize in that early decision then but statistically percentage wise it typically doesn't make a difference. And you know the the thing that people forget two's. These schools even if it's harbor under under oath MIT would do this for athletics that they will give you pull the coach. Of the sport right whether its hockey year's soccer or swimming whatever sport might be. The coach generally gets what maybe three to six check marks where they can say hey. I'd like to give this kid up but my order my boys is occupied and and academically I'm not sure he had agreed to get into the school he went two up he's not listening to. Ended in the coach put a check mark on his application and he got it yeah ID eight Harvard does that Dublin and just about. Every school even if they're not giving scholarships is able to do something like that typically the way it works is that each team has a certain amount of points that they get Newton on Sophia someone that's a real reached you know they may take up more space in one class you know more of that poll on a given year. Whereas if you have someone just needs a little help you could point you know 456 of those people. Easily now. At a new term for you. V two V. Vehicle to vehicle communications. In evils cars to transmit their locations speed direction and other information. Ten times perspective per second. All new cars and uses the you know you talk about an invasion of your privacy. All new cars and light trucks would be able to talk wirelessly. With each other with traffic lights and with other roadway infrastructure under a rule. The Transportation Department proposed yesterday. Officials say the technology holds the potential to dramatically. Reduce traffic deaths and transformed driving I know you're not gonna like this but this is another. Form of technology chalk this is common. I don't like it one bit I you know I like it. It when I go for work at 5:30 in the morning. All drive to a traffic light. And it'll be red and there's nobody on the road oust him here with all the time with this technology talker you know he and I are gonna do this stuff and are a joke if chuck you. On this technology to have that light. Go when you're there they are to have. Most of the new like that are built if you look up there's a little black sensor that's right next the traffic light in it determines if cars are coming from different and why don't laugh the way it went right attacker and afterwards when I like you're going at our old. The absence of they would have this even. We're gonna have everything we re very V two V. And edit out tight where another they they point out I read the whole article in one of the things that they point out to track news. That. When your drive and on the highway. You've got a car in your plot and blind spot. This technology will pick up that blind spot card who won't let you turn into that but you don't need this technology to do now this is my objection so. Vida V technology what is to all these vehicles communicating with each other. You don't need that in order. To find out if there's a cart next you have sensor technology. Every single self driving cars on the road right now all the ones they're testing whether it's Tesla movers. Google's whoever it is yeah they owe you sensor technology to determine if something is near. Every single one of those sensors is responsible for guiding that car in some certain way. Those cars don't talk to anything let me give me another reason for these. Granted. VDV traffic woods just like on waste vitally needed why do I need to have the vehicles talking to which because then why can't hurt your vehicle will tell me. Don't get on the Mass Pike go route nine because there's a big accident quite light when he the vehicles talked Richard do. Why can't they just look at where the traffic is to begin. What they needed to communicate I think on target with specific car the why can't why can't I why can't my cards pull up and say actually were all of the traffic is I'm gonna avoid. Well because he how would you know where the traffic is that the cars and telling I think the same time because ways tells you right now without talking to every call wild but it's not as accurate is it could be because we easily measured how are you rated it all I care at all what happened. Again you're you're talking about being able to avoid it anyways based on your car automatically picking the best route where are you suggesting the government might be making a mistake here. I'm suggesting that this is one of the most dangerous proposals that they've made because why. Because the potential for hacking this technology is immense because I don't give you the potential for it is absolutely huge and you have a system that all of these other driver Lewis. Cars have set up today that does requires that doesn't require any networking at all I've told you in the past I think this has come. That doesn't mean it's like it again like just because. People think it's coming doesn't mean it's right you don't need this technology we used to think we would need in order to make those cars were because we didn't have sent technology that we do today. Cameras and such technology have gotten so good that you don't need us and this is overkill and dangerous because as much they say that's going to be completely say no problem. Nothing is complete everything enact anything that is networked is risk you can have the strongest encryption possible movement and by the way encryption is nothing you deal with business they're they're talking about hey we're gonna have you know 128 bit encryption. And you don't want to build back to warn you build that back door of the law enforcement someone else I. These are the kinds of things that we need to be careful of you can't simply say there's all these great things that there's all these potential issues here because if you get into the system. In all these cars are talking to each other owing to do what I watched Independence Day am I'm gonna play this line on to drop virus into one boom and almost. Are like all of saint. Like this is what happens with networks. We he's upset Tucker we're gonna have to Kindle like technologies and no easy and wouldn't news. Just the opposite what you pay great you'd think I'd be the one right yes I'm really got a up next we're going to be joined by Justin marine and he's a business owner. Speaking of business owners were joined now by Justin Moran he's the founder of the South Shore business center and I think give your company is being. Eight business in QB it. That fair statement. It it is fair for for some of our attendance there startups themselves and I'm just getting going in and sort of in keeping themselves but we also serve folks that have been in business for years. Professionals that are OC prison lawyers and financial advisors that. Need a place to you get things done. Right talk to us about a business that day very you know I've. I'm familiar with them because we rent space in business centers but a lot of our listeners have no idea or talking about. Sure that your so and hang them for instance we have 101000 square feet and thirty individual offices and yeah. We have perception full time. We offer Internet. Services. Wi-Fi throughout the whole place like. Can I get used an ethernet cable through you can we also service has won the gripes that I hear the fees does the senators the other ones we use say it just terrible why. Well fortunately and in in him we have files so I have a dedicated line that 7575. Which is plenty fast enough I hated him handle all the users it does some software that sits on top of it. That actually the traffic so if somebody. Is on the phone we have voice over IP service all the phones run over the and is well. And voice packets are obviously. Our higher priority and then the data packages somebody's watching Netflix is gonna get bumped right read it Mike he'll hopefully it'll actually fears watching Netflix mutants and ten people on the phone. In terms of looking. At the the businesses that come in and user space how you know what what's the average business how much how much time are they using early coming in every day they do one day a week what types of different things DC. That's a great question because most of the mark independent businesses. People come in to get things done there's no. There's no water cooler talk there's no. Meeting after meeting is no. None of those things that bog people down so a lot of people. Are. This. 35 to 45 hours a week at so they are consistently using that space every day though in a lot of cases. And unless their career brings a monologue on the road look down on the lawyers and CPAs are there all the time. That is how does that work for somebody that wants to use the space they pay a flat monthly VAD day or hour. We do three things we offer private furnished offices can. And so some in that case someone will sign. An agreement as short as a month or as long as three years deity discount if you three years you do. So. The other thing we do is co working. And so we have 800 total square feet of co working between hanging in Kenton. And that is a subscription model someone can come in. Work and sort of a bullpen environment like to call where they have their own username and login for the Internet and in command. Get some things done make a few phone calls me back on the road and so that is beckon. And you can subscribe to that service for as little nine handles them well there and the. A conference for the you know these facilities have conference thanks to do because that's the bit that's that's used predominantly is an attempt. Yeah and and obviously I'm guessing that that's it that's not something that people use all the time evidentiary in place hourly reservations for that if something like that you can absolutely get. How big is the average company that you work with you talking mostly you know small sole proprietors you deal with even some large companies that hey we just need space for six months and we don't want us have a permanent office right. The majority are sold for an solo entrepreneurs if you yup and and there are. A handful I guess that. Are remote employees a larger companies for instance. I just had a new tenant come to hang them from Manhattan when he works for area private equity. Fun there and his wife is coming in and she's had one day guess what we're moving them from. Anything he did the place to work because he's got two small kids. Most of the people that come to me say. I've yet to small kids three's market and they're driving me crazy. I can't get anything done at Starbucks I need a place to work and that is. 99% of the people that come to me today in the that's what they're so do you own views the space or do you rent it in and it's kind of sublease it out the latter so I have 25000. Total square feet across three locations cancel lease space in them someplace that you sublease and how long you been in business. Social business and has been an entity for fifteen plus years I purchased it from the fur. From the former owner. A little over a year ago. And I was lieutenant there myself order a number of years so that's kind of how it all came together and then we recently expanded to ten. And October 1 you have off further expansion plans and next couple years things go well. I do I would love to get to south the sentiment that sonoco in something in your news city and Boston U it's a it's a different. Kind of market. There are and that I've loved the opportunity to protest and a how many employees he had yet. Personality each office I do. So I have full of for. Three part time employees and one people and and so there there to act as the receptionist effectively so right in the client arrives this a who re here to see share in the old goat milk just like irregular receptionist actually and any other office pencil and we we. For some our clients we answer the phone take messages have you that their to do that as well how much demand is there for your service. There's a lot of demand. Because 33%. Of the current workforce out there right now. Is considered. Either freelance or remote so they're either during their own their own business. Or they work remotely for a larger company how does our listener find out it get more information how to make contact you say there. You know there on route three somewhere in the tea and he you know you guys for a share sir. Come always eliminate our number 888. 7013246. And we had to web properties. South short biz B I Z dot via rising so social or is it is does. And workspace. 45. Dot net and it's predominately other professionals that are renting the space she said. Lawyers. Accountants. Private equity guys live in mixed bag financial advisors practice salespeople absolutely honestly with contractors. And that the guy who paints on my offices is actually attendance through with a lot of depositions things like that legal depositions. You do see a fair bit of happiness in there. Well congratulations thank you and and thank you for joining since Justin marine and he is the founder. Of the south show or business center joining us today on the financial exchange. Mercedes-Benz says that they're going to be the parity that cost differential will equal off by the year 20/20 five and I think that's actually pretty accurate. Because I beat these carbon batteries will be marketable like 20/20 five and that's going to be the difference maker they'll be lighter and much less expensive to me yeah the battery tech. Knology really is what's going to make or break them over the next decade here. On there's no doubt that you are seeing a big big growth in electric cars just the sheer number of models on the road today I think we found. Was at there's like 56 or something we talked about last week these two men and you're still only seen about a 100000 sales in the US it would still is a very small part. Of the US market. But there's no doubt that technology continues to improve incrementally whom it it takes time. And. You know what they're finding is that people. That drive electric cars they never go back to gas cars knee in other EU EU you start driving Abbot try to talk you guys and try and one of these things. But once you go to an electric car you're not gonna go back to buy drive and gas fired into an appraisal back. At this hour and a desperate doesn't count that as that's a battle for our. How is it's a bad electric car I asked electric but it is still electorate doesn't like you can't just say that's trial by because it's not a good when it's the most popular one out there try though has slowed drivable I can't afford to test the you can test drive one character detail 120000 dollars for a car it's free to test drive one. But that's like saying drive Mercedes annual of gas powered my Chevy Volt was 35000 dollars a cut. And that's including the sales tax and everything else on him in the government and I'm by taxes next year they're gonna give me 101000 dollar tax credits I really pay 25000 dollar from the car. Small breast papers on national with its axle and of the car I love back. Zero to 1626. Seconds do it that is not there to fifty it doesn't hit sixty. And yet you see you're distorting the audience the audience actually believes these things. He I've got a part time job for. If you're looking for work there's an eighty year old woman. And then they pay people to watch them and see if anything is going on they pay high or reward I love this job like I would this this sounds absolutely greatly I would just I would love to do that. She what she doesn't she's sitting in Ireland right and she's eighty years old. But she's got good eyes so she's watching her computer monitor and she sees a woman put something in her pocket she spot as shoplifting right. Then she sends a message to Brazil and they arrest the woman and she's the woman in Ireland who who is the one that found the shoplifting or if she gets a reward. I want this like this this is something when you talk about the benefits of technology this is it right here this is. This is absolutely beautiful I wanna start doing I mean how much of a reward to talk now and I go wild ox Tucker I will do it for fully a I would do this for for this for fun. Bank of America has one advantage over other banks that dates back to its origins in a lot of money that they don't pay any interest. And they do they got a huge number huge amount of deposits 439. Billion dollars. Worth of deposits the big thing is that this bank got the original bank founded at the beginning of the twentieth century. You know pretty much with one of the only banks that was focusing on individual cut customers down when it wasn't a commercially focused bank in its infancy. And so it has all of these deposits there that tend to be pretty sticky don't you know they kind of know how often people are gonna be using on. And. Right now we're joined by Edward dark he is an executive vice president at stone and bank I had Dario. Good point very chuck and happy holidays and do quite lovely. Good good. It's and I wanted to talk to you about sort of bad habit to bakery somebody branches to happen. A great question that a goodly that we we are actually in the process gentlemen of actually celebrate a 130 anniversary on January 10. Of next year but believe it or not we have been added to branches for quite some time. Our strategy. There has been from the get go to not really coastal the brick and mortar approach we've been going to the technology approach. You know you look at the data that they'll be aired in banking surveys and one of the things continue to come out of the top the list that. Hospital look at the brain to sneak in and record so it's been a bet that we have actually gone again. And as active we've kind of we we actually leverage strategy and not technologies that it. So Edward you recently entered into a business arrangement with Z rent as I Anderson. We did tell us about that yeah we we had a funny how when you have a small bank like we have 85 full time employees that everyone tends to help one another small tuition and one of my calling to actually heard something about he rants from meter banked on your shell and we've brought it into law Rath into our mixed here on the on the Camille level Huck we leverage the technologies help dipped from the commercial component we've been really successful last re is it going to commercial base but as I said before. A big hindrance Ross's. We think we have all the products and services often on the line outside the gathering deposits is an extremely difficult proposition you don't have. The bridges in structural via. We heard about the part of selling your radio show. We were rock quickly wouldn't touch with jailed repeat a bank and again it's native and a great part its deal with really excited about this and and went opening collide in the next 6090 days. So what will happen is somebody can have there. Personal checking account at stone bank they can have their commercial relationship with you guys in their mortgages than their business lending with stone bank. But then. If they have need depositor if you have a customer. That's a landlord they can use you rent for free I take it and have those deposited deposits made to stone bank. They sure kidded and actually go back a little bit they don't being independent does mean need to be customer of the bank what happens is. Invitation goes though from the landlord to lieutenant. Invites them to sign up and he rants and then that they would sell luxury item calamities gate he can he she can count on the automated payment. On the monthly basis not have to worry about when the check in command. And then more importantly he she can all sort of analyze the capsule to come in twos so. The allotted to dependability in the products and from our perspective whether a customer of ours. Or not he gives the opportunity across to offer this product and be one war you know pool and are in our toolbox to local internal when business. Write your customers will appreciate. Great ending and it also I would think would help you with customer retention. It absolutely does you know existed that technology is our biggest box sport on an investment piece in the bank world strongest states. 11 step ahead. Of bot what what offerings drop it on the other banks the big banks but security components are also important you know protecting our customers' data security. Is even more important and offering this service because you know all the potential. Bad gaggle basically like alchemy we've we've been reading about that newspapers the year the year bought protection beater it's been the key of our Microstrategy. Very good Ed thank you very much for joining us appreciate it. You know if Yuri customer. The small regional bank. You couldn't ask your bank to contact Z rent and zero it will license the product with your bank's. Apparently what's and do it with a small bank in your town talker and shocker shocker when you read this cult that we review and we got the beard. Officials feared. Analogous citizens or something of note the sub national Hannam yanking on saving getting since we have been in summer. They got mills like savings back there gamut of that they don't think there and read the regional bank decently sized seeded you're customer. And you say well I want to use he rent you go to your bank and and they'll local bank Blue Hill they do the same thing you know so. It just something to think about if you're it if you if you're in that situation. We make of this plan by IBM to hire 25000. American workers ahead of their media embodies all the tech history and get beaten up by Donald Trump that. Believe when I see it. Now believe the higher like these these are companies that have been cutting people for the last couple years and outsourcing all of a sudden I'm gonna believe that this is gonna go in this massive hiring spree. Lot of pressure from the president lot of pressure from. The Donald there can be all the pressure you want but it doesn't make sense your business than you do. Abbott did he put pressure on them otherwise they eat yet he can save you companies like IBM they want the government contract you'd better hire 101000 people that's illegal. That's illegal well. I bet that day that I don't it's illegal I get the him well look at you get the ball look at he's he's going after companies. Italy didn't with carrier. Like you you really want the president making trying to make one off deals with companies and pressuring them to change is this I don't like to be a fly on the wall the meeting that I know I felt we were free market economy I didn't think we are trying to influence things for personal or professional game of the season for Trump's personal gain this is to create jobs in the United States and put pressure on god on tech companies change change the laws don't don't make. Don't put pressure on companies to make individual seasons change the laws. Dow is down 36 points are over and hit 20000 today or not I do know that there's a pretty strong likelihood of rate. We'll talk about it tomorrow. Thanks for stopping by. Chuck sought Tucker Silva. And very Armstrong from our insurer match dot com.
