And. This is the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chunks of tour exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. I did in the investment field since nineteen. 84 wore a long time and you know I've been through bull markets I've been through bear markets I lived through the crash of 1987. Crash of 2000 the crash of 2008. Not much I haven't paid attention to as it relates to investing for the last forty years and I'm sitting here today it's what December. 2016. And I just want a voice a little bit of caution a little bit of concern. About the lofty levels that stock prices have attained high everybody's very Armstrong and John Moody with you here. Money thankful Thursday and say you know. I I will of the returns in I am personally doubt on long stocks I just wanna put that out they're not waiting for correction so I can benefit from I've holed a lot of stocks and and I paid my eye on them in my client accounts label them personally. And I'm here to tell you John I am of this in the middle my stomach when the market close last night it said. Would agree ahead of ourselves I think we are due. For correction can't say when it's gonna come can't tell you how deep it will be. But there are two things are looking a little price. I think a lot of these. Feeling exactly how you're feeling and wondering is it too late to get him is that. Too early to get out in my overextended should be buying I think there's a lot of confusion out there because we've had an incredible run. If you look at the big picture here buried look at year to date. The recipe is up nine point 7% this is a rare normal year you mean the market averages above that it's not up thirty. It's a nine point seven which is about its historical average so if you look at it just for the full year in the year and today this could be one of those career average years. The reason why it feels rich is one thing has gotten rich but on top of that. Half of that nine point seven has come since the election so you know we had about 4% before the election we have about four or 5% after the election. So then you start saying well where are we mean he used a barometer and say you know what's the price earnings ratio and others. The average multiple to earnings and tangible in the company sells for. Right now if you look at the last twelve months the S and p.'s 26 times earnings which is historically very high. The Dallas a 21 times earnings are good friend Larry Kudlow said it's more important look at forward earnings. Quarter earnings takes a look at what's expected the next twelve that's a 21 news. That's a round nineteen. Which historically is around sixteen. So these these are high numbers by any definition is the market in the end it might do when I watched what is occurring with stocks. The thing that occurs to me on news. That investors are assuming that Donald Trump is going to get everything he wants out of congress and that includes. 15% corporate taxes that includes massive personal income tax reductions. That includes. Massive deregulation. And I don't doubt that he's going to get a lot of amateurs gonna get all. I'm not sure all of that is in these prices I'm not sure it's that excessively valued I remember we're talking about the additional Ford of four and a half percent that's been tacked on since Election Day. We are looking for sure I think at mall were corporate taxes. It might only be 25 which would be disappointing but it could be fifteen. And it's probably be somewhere between fifteen and 22 that's a massive tax break. In in in plain English that's more earnings that go right to the bottom line of corporate America's so as we're talking about PE's right. You can reduce that PE just on that lower tax so it's not. It's not a baseless rally them and I I'm not sure what at a company like Wal-Mart who always pays the maximum tax so we go from 35%. Down to let's say 21. You divide your tax bill by a third that's all profit. I'm sort of the shareholders it's called a shareholders in buybacks and dividends and and retained earnings. So I mean this is something that's important and the thing you look at it and I think we all feel was buried in in the sentiment here expressed I think. Speaking on behalf of everybody including me. You start looking at what you won't and you start saying what she maybe it's time to start selling well. It's tax you have to pay attacked the course taxed if you're an IRA it's even more complicated because they get that you don't the paint attacks but. I don't look at it's a very different approach between existing long term investments and where returns are you know solid lumpy this is par that won't be returned. Met with the last couple leadership might much of it and now all of a sudden you make it a lot and by the way I haven't sold anything. The eighties wanna put them out and take it as as I'm sitting here telling everybody the markets overpriced. And I'm still Sonoma stocks but you know you look at someone like the legendary Peter Lynch from Boston who you know other than Warren Buffett maybe the greatest investor of last fifty years. His argument was don't cut off the rose at the stepped up. And when you having big rallies like this let it grow let it blossom. But be disciplined on what you blind so you can blogs and more careful with your buying as opposed to. Taking profits chorus it's tough to call the top. But you know what if it would if this that you would if you sold your stocks today and they rallied another 15% he feels terrible. And you talked about history we had this happen in the early eighties and we had this happen in the nineties in the eighties we really deep recession and the market was even stronger than this. Because who's looking ahead if you go to utterly sick each and willing recession. The peak east forty. I'm now you would have missed the eight year bull market same thing in the nineties. Markets were very cheap. And we were in a recession. And it's set up about a nine year historic bull markets of the question here is are we at the beginning of something or the end but problem on valuation is we're starting at a high point or so lower your investment expectations but don't be in the rush to sell right. Any one thing I wanna mention that the European Union Marriott drive me this morning. Came out and said they're cutting back on their quantitative easing catching the market by surprise in previous days that means set the market and into turmoil he didn't. In the markets a little confused by this because on the one hand they are extending. They're bottom line. So the the the program is extended its not ended even though the economy is doing a little better inflation picking up a little bit which drug he admitted. But on the other hand. Instead of being extended for nine months it's extended for six months. And they've lowered the amount drug he's lowered the amount they're actually buying so what we would call this is tapering. He's basically signaling this game is winding up but we're gonna rush to. Cut her off cold. We're gonna ease on this jobs report came out this morning this is the weekly jobs report 250000. Jobs lost last week. Filing for initial claims. Market job market continues to be very strong ninety some odd weeks below 300000 which is the magic number that indicates problems. Some analysts are saying you know start to look at the 275. Area were miked concern born to 58 were still way out way daughter who's 350 did you concerned 300 anything under 300 is bull and you were topped that at lower. It lower population rates are so again we're dealing with a higher population is back in the east are population grossed three million people a year. And we're still at numbers that are backed feel forty years old. BP is sending almost three built in three million barrels of US oil to Asia this is a first. You know this this is potentially a real game changer. The forty year ban on US crude oil exports was lifted and we knew that was a pretty big deal. Because we potentially could be. That created an awful lot of energy will ironically a British company BP. His basically set up an arrangement here buried where they're gonna be taking. Energy we've developed here in the United States. And through a long complicated expensive process take it to where people really are consuming. Energy. Which is an Asian that's where the consumption as you know were cut back or add solar panels and by him that's when you know growth electric cars you know work cutting back our consumption little by little but collectively a big way. Not a nation that they're just they're grown people they're using old technology and they're using a ton of energy. And there's that there's there's a disparity between west Texas international groom and right crew. West has always cheat brits always more expensive it's like a four dollar difference so what what would BP did. Is they did a 150 million dollar project. Selling that much shale oil to Asia in their efforts and caught in pool ball setting up the world's longest sea routes seven tankers. A series of ship to ship transfers. And this is an effort among oil traders should develop new routes to sell supplies of cheap shale. To Asia and and they're taking there's an arbitrage vice they'd be getting four dollar cheaper. I'll oil right at west Texas a 47 bucks if that of the 51 box from that it would be important. It's good for us it means we're going to be producing more product. In generating more jobs in places like Texas like North Dakota like Pennsylvania so for our economy is very good news. Donald Trump faces pressure on how to handle young illegal immigrants was an article written by Laura Mac war. From the Wall Street Journal is gonna talk to us in the next segment what does Donald Trump. Do about the 750000. Dreamers. That Barack Obama has allowed to stay in the United States willing to back question and a lot more from our insurer match dot com studios. Barry Armstrong. Hi everybody very Armstrong. Here from the financial exchange and I'm joined by. Jake how's the mortgage business these days it's an extremely busy very out there are a lot of people buying homes. So that's kept the purchase market very very busy and on top of that racers still at all time lows right so we've a lot of folks who are refinancing their homes either to get a better rate or pull some cash out because their properties appreciate it that's us and ask how does somebody know whether they should call to refinance. Well you know. There's really 22 ways if they feel that the rate can be improved. Give us a ring to town and you know thirty year fixed raise her all time lows. If you have anything in the in the 4% range frankly give us a ring to it might be able to do something Coca com or if you need to take in cash and of your property wondered for college tuition for your kids aren't you guys have home equity lines of credit we have home equity lines of credit as well and the cool thing about that is. If you already had a great look breed on your first mortgage and get a home equity line of credit which will leave your first loan as it is allow you access the equity built up in your home makes an awful lot of sense and you've got fifteen year fixed rate mortgages five year adjustable rate words all types and playing week we have all types of that in addition to that were actually very active Jumbo lenders so. As properties are really appreciated in the markets in Massachusetts. There's been a higher demand for Jumbo loans and we do a lot of that. Or visit leader bank. Dot com we're joined now by Laura Maclin from the Wall Street Journal she wrote an article that caught my attention as it relates to. The dreamers. I or hurry you. Good so how many dreamers were given a safe harbor under president Obama's 2012 program. About 740000. People signed up for that program though it is quite if you. In that was primarily kids as I understood. Well it's EE it's actually people. People over eighteen that people who are brought to the United States illegally as children and so it's young people not children themselves W popped cipher for the protections. At least get a little bit old and an equity team back to sixteen are a bit torrential as around there but it'd all people who are brought to the US as children. And would. What's status was that there are given. Rob they were given two things. One did the current dot deferred action for childhood arrival in the race they caught that could he get on the call. Did stern action meaning it still can be deported but we're gonna defer it we're gonna say you're not a priority. So essentially you don't get you get it safe harbor from deportation but you also get a work permit and that of course is very valuable he can work legally in the last. And didn't see it didn't President Obama gave it similar status to their parents and 24 team. Well each detail it would actually could retrieve repaired to that its parent of the US senate and the hand without legal permanent residents each he offered that he he's. Put into import an executive action that would have that given that there came benefit active. You're several million more people but those. Blur how to by the court so it never took a facts. So would what are the expectations. Now you've got you know president elect trump. He ran on a platform of deporting them Lou do you think you'll actually deport the 740000. People that are dreamers. Yeah I mean I don't it looked like probably not mean there are a couple of different and he immediately can kill the program on. Barely deport them that he's been kind of a an error about whether he would truly deport everybody sees it he has said that and they actually want the focus on criminal. I don't think these people would be a target for deportation at depends on the other hand if they don't have good data and they may not. They. They may be protected from it in particular either but interestingly enough an interview that was just published yesterday that he didn't have time magazine. He spoke. Of the dreamers and said he wants to try to find a way to work something out but he understands that there are feeling. Like scared and never neverland and don't know elected what can make of their status and that they have that anxiety and he's that he won this title worked in the out for themselves. We may in fact have some sort of an accommodation coming and that said. He did say during the campaign that he would and then executive action under Obama immediately. Ask the people who he pointed to people who is working quite QB you know that it unconstitutional. So. He's kind of an in a tricky position of whether he's been allowed to today whether he'll support legislation like Katrina act which has. You know around for a long time and never passed that would give these people permanent status. It's it'll really be interesting to watch. Yeah I wondered if it's like a reworked DREAM Act and make it like rescinding what's on the books right now and creating something that 70%. The same. Well you know I mean anything you create legislation is gonna be better than what they have right now sell. Because that would be permanent. Right now as we are discussing in this day conversation you know Obama's executive actions can be overturned with a Chocolat and the next president of if they weren't against these people some sort of a legal status even if it wasn't that path to citizenship which is like Patriot Act has offered in the past. Then. They would be in much better shape and they are today though you know that would be a big win for her out and immigration rights community and for these young people. I think that. You might gases that touch public probably be OK with that based on the comments that he made. Getting mad at congress will be a challenge out one thing to look for is maybe there's a compromise out there are some of the stuff that trump wants on enforcement. Get traded for the dream. That he would keep them together. Let's see how does he do this based on. Well exactly I mean his base is not gonna like about it at all I mean is basically tradition Leno so called amnesty for anybody quitting on people. And hill today we secure the border and until we do a lot of other enforcement measures itself. He's really kind of cot and play in the story you read about this week. Billy described as sister of the easiest thing to do administratively that the hardest politically. Because they have people who are either extremely sympathetic did it they really did not make a decision to come here themselves that many that that's. But their whole life here are our Americans and in all but he made no they have UConn high school many of them are high achievers they you know just want certain that same thing if everybody else wanted. So that the idea that you're gonna say. You know no you can't go to college you can't get a job seeking an idea he might have to leave you know you're stuck in this limbo. Is it a top. Yeah you have employers that are not happy either right disease you're right employers in and week. We know we like cheap labor and and these kids are you know they're working at McDonald's or work and it did Friday and the labor market tight and the labor market is tight. Yeah I mean I don't know if these kids are particularly cheap labor in more than any other kids their cheap labor I mean. In this case state when they have their work permit there on equal status in the workforce with everybody else. So the question becomes whether you want additional workers some people would say no we don't need another 50000 more workers is that Americans who are unemployed. Other people would say now having more workers mean more young people is good because the helped drive that drive the economy's so there's a difference of opinion on NAFTA but. Regardless that the question you know is. What there what did they are going to be able to stay here and likely. I'm guessing lore that you're gonna be writing many follow ups to the story. Yes that probably looks that way yeah. Thank you very much for joining us thanks so much for having me. Laura knack for Wall Street Journal this is this is probably one of his top refused to deal with it is difficult but if you listen to what he's been saying recently it sounds like he's kind of transitioning into a position. Of let's make sure we get the criminals out of here let's make sure that you can frankly is the logical approach I think everybody kind of agrees on that board. As far as the the extent to which he was promoting a lot of anti immigration policies it seems like there's a little bit of a retracement whose policy who would backtracking. And I think this deal with a more nuanced policy. Once he's sworn via pity if because there's frankly there's a lot of Republican congressman. That would like to see them stay. Jack is in an alias and there's support in the in this car in congress but I think he did did he just say wildly congress decide. Let any very well they do that at and get his guys although I was at a rally the other day I heard him saying. We welcome immigrants yeah we wanna be a welcoming country. So I mean he is trying to draw a distinction between those that did not fall Lofton and those that are. You know productive citizens. So there are now our next segment we're gonna have a conversation regarding Linda McMahon who John. As known personally how many years have you known her eye to eye but talk to Linda in many many years decades actually. But. It goes back the 1980s. While. Going back to Cape Cod yet we should mention that Linda McMahon will head the small business administering yes big him pull appointment by Donald Trump. They of course are involved in the dubbed the world by wrestling federation made a fortune and and which had things I I used to do radio on the cape not a WX TK which they great radio station by the way but a competitor. But this is many many years ago and Vince and that they used to come of the station every week to talk about the upcoming Cape Cod cubs games. At the Cape Cod coliseum is Vince owned the coliseum. In the hockey team somewhere which involves him. On whites path themselves Yorman and it was converted since into Christmas trees. Christmas tree shops warehouse. But. You know they would commit the instant the station like it's back in the 1980s and it was their prejudice hate you back was their pro hockey team and the K yeah the advocate cod cubs played at the coliseum. And Vince all the policy was a great you know cash cow for yeah. And concerts in the concerts and brochure that in the summer there's no competition than yours places Boston and Providence holes closest in the eighty's this is the early eighties mid 1980s. And Sosa hit a great thing going and he has a actual. Legitimate wrestler himself this yup. And coming up into a studio in Connecticut I'm one who's I'm going to take wrestling to the next level. The rules or don't India as a about this this. We're gonna build like this production facility we're gonna make rustling. As popular as as the top sports. I mean this case where a guy really did. Mike sell pretty much everything he had three sold all of his interest on the tape you sold the coliseum soul whose businesses and he says I'm just gonna go for just like I know this war billions of pipes and news crazy yet. He's made a fortune billions of dollars so congratulations to Linda McMahon and his gig and and she'll be heading up the SP yell and you know what today. She talked about a woman. Who wouldn't understand how business or didn't she run for governor kinetic editors sent senator yes and it India and had a good run but didn't win and they go back again this obvious people over the wall her business right now is not exactly a small businesses of major multibillion dollar company but you know Linda invents. You know in the trenches running a small business. You know for many many years before that they understand the challenges and the issues it faces. But that's okay congratulations to let him and god bless her for being willing to take the job you know she gave ending and six million dollar donation to trust pac. While well it pays if well I don't know if it doesn't and you know that the smartest thing she ever did was ignoring my vote yes because she would probably be like billions of dollars less wealthy today I've got lots of dough if they don't forget to call Cushing and dole and if you're rich and you're thinking about making a gift to your children your grandchildren this Christmas. If you're thinking about making gift. To a family member you need to read this article before you make that 8668485699. So who is going to be the next US ambassador to China. Another guy have a lot of experience with Terry Branstad long term governor of Iowa were in Iowa for about eight years and and Terry Branstad was governor there for ever was a I think I think he's the longest serving governor like in the history of governors but they have. Branstad has that has handle a relationship for over thirty years which in pain. And so. A lot of people concerned about possible in the relationship between the United States and China few lines and get it wonder why. I mean this is a very sensitive area honestly if you look at but if you look at the things you worry that could go wrong right. As a big relationship China or something where they could be a problem. And apparently having a guy like branch that who has had a 35 year relationship with China. In there I think can only be positive for a I get another neutral yeah when I say when it in this situation and it makes a lot of sense. More US factory workers are saying I quit I found this to be surprising story use you hear about. Now there's a shortage of these. Factory type jobs workers that have these jobs are quitting at record pace that we talked about this yesterday the jolt surveyed the job opening in the labor turner turnover survey. And one of these. Issues they they monitor which is a significant it is. How many people quitting and you might so what's the big deal but that the victim but as if people are quitting. That means we have confidence they either have a new job or they can easily get another one where they might be quitting factory job and saying you know what I'm gonna go back and and learn how to become an electric because that's lucrative and because they have the opportunity to do that which is good stuff. So this case the quick number is a good number and last in vote most recent I want it to be high. Quit numbers better than a termination or we don't want everybody quitting. But it didn't demonstrate strength in the economy does so a rising number is actually good sign in this case the numbers up. It in manufacturing you think giving me a manufacturing job would be tough. A 157000. People quit their manufacturing jobs in October alone then that's actually a good sign because that tells you those people. Can find work elsewhere either elsewhere in manufacturing or like you said in another job maybe more lucrative. The death rate in the United States is increasing to the point where life expectancies. Have decreased. I don't know that I've ever seen. US life expectancy decrypt before and you know this is all related to diet diet we are back. Yep. Is that date exactly the case we have an increasing incidence of stroke. We have the seat heart disease is known crazy. Yet that there has been some progress and heart disease very because on the cardiovascular area. Anti smoking campaigns have helped a lot. Cholesterol drugs that help a lot blood pressure medications so that's one area cardiovascular where there actually has been some improvement you know bought. The CDC is saying that you can blame obesity and diabetes. For the this reduction in expected life expectancies the other things they pointed. Is if you go through if you read the entire study John. Is they point to the increase in alcoholism. And drug addiction among our generation so guys that men and women. That are in their forties and fifties have a much higher degree. Alcoholism. And drug addiction. And they had any time in the past and there's an economic a huge economic factor here very we were trying to get her arms around why people our age and are not working right. And one of the issues we're starting to learn. Is that they don't have the health to do it. They're not healthy enough to work at age 55 or 58 they'd like as you've been beaten up their body so badly for. Forty years or they have serious drug addiction. Or they have you know diabetes it's very difficult to control or the real issues related to obesity so. This guys economic. It ramifications as well as social implications of this they're 34 million Americans who don't have their high blood pressure under control. And you have high blood pressure and if you're not controlling it. Your candidate stroke heart attack there eleven million Americans who don't even know that they. Because a lot of times are symptoms that most times are not symptoms yet the consequences could be catastrophic or certainly caused lots of problems and this is this is a real issue of health issue in economic issue. Voyager shares this is a a local company. Voyager shares are on the prize they have Ali parkinson's drug that is looking. Oh optimistic I did it's positive. The shares were up 25%. To transferring assets to. The revoke Coble trust as opposed to a child. And and quite frankly. A revote Coble trust or an irrevocable trust you get the same advantages Oca well almost one protects it from the nursing home in 1000. That irrevocable provides nursing home protection the revolt global doesn't but by I think that. The answer here is that by not putting an asset in the child's name vs putting an atrocity is really what you're trying to distinguish. And by keeping the acid in your name or any revoke aboard irrevocable trust you are the boss used in control. You decide how long you wanna live in the property you decide if you wanna sell you decide if you wanna rent it. You decide how to invest your money for goodness sakes so it's still yours and in your control and it avoids probate. Reduces the state taxes and provides a nice blood line distribution to your children when you die. Giving it to the children out right now you'll lose all control. And all the tax benefits that go with using a revote born here culpable trust. And you expose it to their creditors just not a good idea. I would set up some kind of a trust even gifting trust is better than gifting it to them in their own hands. Educate yourself about the implications. I'm joined by guys every morning. Good good so this first one McCormick & Co. And Casey not familiar with it. Really now apart but not hang out in the very quickly at polity and with spice company in that I didn't know meet him. And the in your opinion your life know who they are. They are the market share in the year. For spices extract Mariane. In the US and intently. Across the globe and the elevator actually. So this couple reasons and recommend that here now one obviously these meetings. You know the old Nokia I gotta buy it and dollar bottle of extract the court east and every year and I'm great for the companies that. But. I'm from that they are we call it it and dynamo they've increased their dividend every year for the last thirty years and they did it again. Last week. Quarterly dividend forestry and share to 47 and one night. Percent ball ma and historically in this because. The stock price. And certainly the again starred in some other. Come out and he are are you opening and that you really fueled by two things one. We're seeing in the data. A lot of people are shunning restaurant and try and take advantage of this food price deflation yet at home and McCormick is a great way despite the food you know whether it's you know the pro means. Potatoes right you know cart whatever. We will position but they're also benefiting from the trade up. Disposable income outside the US but we're here live in the merge it real well company. And they were very well positioned book accurate all out W. Not a real big company eleven billion dollars as they more likely to do and acquire acquisition or they possibly a company that could be acquired. I think I don't see them being acquired if you look at it they are really good at more than the elevator actually given the scale and reach the they have. And they historically do a number of our acquisitions. I think the last two weeks then did another one. And tallying company. Italian spices and slavery they actually in Italy. So that they can take input there pipeline which which is really what they do they they do the job. In a dividend could really spice up your returns and yes and or block. What about International Flavors & Fragrances. That this is the symbol for the stock is IFF it's a similar sized company. It to ten billion dollar company trading at a 124 dollars this year. After their release similar dynamic here. Between I have and formatting of the I was also in the labor and business so that product that is put into. You know food food drinks beverages that sort of thing in the fragrance business which was people tend to give you you know that sort of thing Cologne. But if you think about a lot of the personal they're on that we apple own cleaning products they all have your prayers and fragrances and there. So the net and a very nice. And market happy it is is you guys now. You know I hope you get put under orders you're here in Denver especially sitting next to each other's. I say that because those are very. Speculative buy them no matter what going on with the economy. And it looks like former lighten disposable income bodes well both flavors and fragrances business. And I that now one other thing that's really to drive their business. We're seeing a lot of noise coming from Coke Pepsi and other beverage companies that are my customers that they need to reformulate the product. In July sugar you know Peter Alpert down. And that bodes very very well I bet you didn't waiver formulating as. Now Jim refers to. You know trump stocks are these two stocks trump will would you refer to his trump stocks and they've benefited from Donald Trump. Are likely to. Hear from Bob yet trump out there that's even better that trumps I'd like to supplement the truck bomb or they try resistant I guess is and others. I I say look but the thing is that there's are gonna. Grow as global population grows. And as disposable income so I I would say that they are more this city and I thought I think you trait there. Gracechurch back you'll see that. I don't they I don't see any pick up in a roll back regulations defense spending. Personally other things that are associated with the trump both. What if what if we get so mad we don't wanna use deodorant anymore. We. If it. Thank you Chris thank you for lending some sanity to this conversation. It's Chris Versace thestreet.com. Used to stocks are McCormick is spice company and Casey with a great track record too often in international fragrances symbol there was IT FF. Both of those not really beneficiaries of the trump the trump bump is really be in I'd say energy. Yeah refiners. Double pipeline. Right. I think you're anxious about would be exporters and companies that do a lot of business with like with China again you know worried he would do worry about that little. Less so now but I think it's it's still a concern once we have terrorists and he. You know these old pastor. Well it starts out that way that you didn't get out of control so you know that's what we keep in mind. Mark is the is up. Ten points but it's always. We're talking about gifting because it's Christmas what happens Todd if you give your home to your child and later on you decide you wanna sell back home. Yes this is another problem with gifting while it feels so Gooden especially this time of year it it it has such a loss of control. That that you don't think about you think your children would never hurt you but if you gave it to your children understand folks if you retained no interest in that property. Didn't. Well in Dayton beat me her you unintentional. What have you business failure and bankruptcy car accident divorce. Tamils are legal proceeding that causes them to lose the house that you gave them. That's right so. That is so when you put it that way very not only did it hurt you because you don't have the house that you wanna live in the hurt temperature so what's. Helpful to expose what you're hoping to be their future inheritance. That there creditors any time sooner than you need to let's face it if my parents wanted to give me their house now I'd be like hold all. I don't need I don't wanna let's put it in a trust let's do something more creative. So that it can still be yours and you can still control it. Six weeks ago would have been very difficult to predict. The genes in the rally that has occurred on Wall Street. The rally continues this post election trump bump rally continues the Dow is up 24 points the S&P is up appointed. John he's got to be a lot of money. The nasty a lot of old money coming into the market. Could you not seen a big bond so you wouldn't say this is so much cash on the sidelines and institutional cash. And you know people who were just ordinary people in their regular accounts they just have seen a lot of cash as a lot of non believers. And I think what happens every time the market wants to go down more money is coming up these are people who just sat out much of the much of the rally that we've had. And I think you're seeing a little capitulation on the plus side well in the death. Golf tees it's really hard to get motivated to sell anything because if you sell it. You look in anywhere from 23. 20% tax when he make sales fell BI the year to where where if you waited three weeks of four weeks you'd be deferring that tax for a year and even then. Yet here you look at it and you say OK what they just think about what's that you will shares with the stock that's benefited from the from bank of a man caterpillar and caterpillar and caterpillar terrific terrific. Let's say here here in the caterpillar and you paid 24 and now it's a ninety dollar stock right. And if you sell it he's in a period seventy dollar gain. But of that seventy dollars how much of night and give to the government punish others won the dollar's 22 dollars to the federal sweeping the so we can do to replace the right no for an investment and that's the challenge. That I think a lot of investors face the money in the market today. As much ended his bid for a long long time and speaking of my old port fall right then what blew my clients. It's tough to get excited about selling anything. We you're gonna have to pay 20% tax and then even after you do that they're still lose that Tina effect there is no alternative. True we're not at one point 410 year orbit 2.3 ten year. And it's not even put that money to work and it's something that generates a whole lot of income so the alternative to or not that attractive. As any other thing you're thinking about his December is historically the best month of the year for the stock market and it's probably don't miss it throws at you you're like reluctant to sell right before you know is probably going to be a Santa Claus rally continued. Habit head. Being an agreement to purchase company based in Waltham Massachusetts called only here. Sounds like that deal to five point eight billion dollar deal so this has nothing to sneeze at but it sounds like it's all part via a leader is a global leader in tests performed at doctors offices pharmacies and patients homes. Interesting business it was worth five point eight billion dollars with the deal was signed. But that is saying this ain't the same company that we agreed to buy the and they don't want it to break. Yet they're they're alleging that this that the team the deterioration. In in this company has been so severe is it did to your fingers and the alleging that they didn't. Full disclosure in terms with the lose some problems. I I think that's going to be. The basis for the losses. They're gonna say well you guys did tell us everything to do well apparently that there were material adverse effect events that have happened. And and that's the allegation here in the part of the acquired nap. But I did did it may be more this story that then meets the eye so in any case state that it had apparently has lost significant value of the deal was off. Deal's off a Lear had been trading at 54 dollars this year. Went down as rose 31 it's at 37 that's actually up today 1% to get out and is suing to scrap the deal so it's still might go through reluctantly. On the part of out. Yeah now pretty unlikely. I would say. Probably not press the relationship between the executive team just deteriorated pretty pretty pretty bad the situation our our our best of the folks in Waltham this. Staples another New England based company at a Framingham Massachusetts their stock is up five pennies today. Arafat has anything to do with their unloading their European does they just got crushed. In Europe the they could not compete yeah America again now here's they're selling the European business to private equity firm cerberus capital. For about 53 point seven million dollars to Dundee and staples will keep a 15% stake in the year business so they're not completely getting out but their their hedging their bets a little bit here. Let's moved to the Lulu lemon story. I do you love the story of two well you know I. You talk about Peter Lynch and you know by indigo and and and do your research and finals so I walked down a little lemon. Is primarily a product that none of the three of us would ports right Tucker you know too expensive. You embody it would look Rhode Island. Right there and that women do women and raised. So I went down the hall and I talked to the two young women in my office that would be in their demographic. And I said. Do you buy. Lulu lemon. And immediate responses yes and laugh them really they both both Lee. He young girls and young women bio rights are avid consumers of London. You know they have certainly defied the critics because everybody thought this was of that it would it would run its course real quickly. Lemon is them really really well and and they have that really been better than expected last year. Shares were up 14%. After hours last night. Yoga apparel is hot 544. Million dollars in revenue hi mark high margins to president the margins at one point community. Music they sell these painfully. Hundred bucks and it costs them nothing. He's the total to make them yet and there's not a whole lot of competition they are really the key player and this is something that is not David whatsoever I wonder how long acting contained. That's what people thought a year ago and it's continued elevated topic continue forever. And the question would be what's gonna be their fault what pact because that's pretty much their product in however we should point out very that he would not be a stretch. To say investors like this. I that's my second bad. I should probably. If you price for the stock in just take a quick with the stock is doing. Stocks whole cow. Sixteen bucks today it was up after wish you'd done this report yesterday I recently because of its money. They get Tucker so what we have a poll question every day of the financial exchange what is our poll question today and what are the results this simple question today is well Donald Trump deport the dreamers and so far. 83% of people saying no it's 16%. Saying yes but there's no playing time to go on line. To our website financial change you know dot com to vote. Irate and what are the results of our tires so did at 837080. Because like for those of us. Those of you score they own checking my stock and check 83% know 80%. State will not. Support but it. JPMorgan. Expects only two that hikes in 2017. Says trumps stimulus will be small and you know you might think that's not good news but it's actually great news because we only got two fed hikes. And we got a nice modest stimulus. We could still have this whole growth at a reasonable price nice. Not too hot not too cold economy that would. Justified but his strong prices it is in the stock market telling us is gonna be a lot of growth and and a in and stimulus. That's what's opera is telling me that at least maybe I'm interpreting it. And if if you had a a robust economy along with higher rates and that would be okay. But the other option would be you would have its solid economy with like that's a 3% growth next year just a couple of things fed increases. Rates long term stay about where they are. And now we're looking at maybe you know fifteen to 20% added this is like 13% higher earnings next year that would justify these porches and so we. That is the kind of not too hot not too cold environment that investors ironically line. There by that we'll still get stimulus but won't be too much. And we won't global budget and we will close the deficit these are these good things yeah they are I think I'm not sure I'm buying I actually. Telling I don't know that I that well this at the risky but I think it's underestimated it is. That we go hog wild. On stimulus. That we don't address inflation before it becomes a problem in and then we have an issue we haven't had since the seventies which is rising rates. Rising inflation in holes and problems haven't dealt with with JPMorgan listening is that's off the table. Merrill Lynch brokers who failed to root for at least two customers in 2017 to other parts of Bank of America including. It's online brokerage. Platform Merrill edge its retail bank and other units will have a 1%. Decrease in their take home pay or deferred compensation. Next year they that I probably do an auctioneer. Didn't see what just happened at Wells Fargo. Process is exactly what got them in trouble so they're saying fees and commission rule at Merrill which obviously is Kason. This surprises me I I thought that this was like not Kosher right now with what that by design I guess they've they're looking at this thing will work on the other direction we're gonna cut your pay. If you don't do cross because that's what they're asking where they're saying in a year. Is Merrill Lynch has 141000 brokers across the room 141000 stock brokers across the country with the things. We want you to sense of business tore mortgage guys we use sense of business to our car guys and we want you'd use and some business. You know cross it and you know they had owned them that long Bank of America if you recall. Took over Merrill Lynch for free. Back in 2008 in paid. They gave they got them. For negligible amount of money. It was a cheap acquisition of Merrill which is gonna go bankrupt right and I fact I think they did it kind of at gunpoint and yet it is what it is the Fed said look we we need to fix this system before falls apart. You're you're hooked up of Merrill Lynch and you can't get out of a deal in this was not a happy there until you for the first 56 years this was very difficult relationship. In primal and who's a Wellesley. Right did pretty good job you know put keeping it together. You know use fantastic job I think her fidelity Bank of America used to clear all the trades through Fidel a really nailed it clear through Merrill earth barrel clears through Bank of America interest in that that her fidelity for financial and and it's funny how things turn around Merrill is now arguably the most attractive asset that thank you for all it's absolutely yeah. Or downloaded right now on the guides and articles page had legal exchange showed dot com. It's our daily poll question had financial exchange showed does John. Vote your conscience there aren't just vote go to financial exchange oh does come in castaway. I thought it was bad when we reported that. The United States government would be forgiving 120 billion dollars of student loan debt. And then I read an article by Travis corned beef from student loans Planar dot com. He's suggesting that the real numbers can be closer to a trillion dollars Travis welcome to the show how Loria. Great could be here with the. So how in the world are you getting your number. A half a trillion dollars of student loan debt being forgiven. Sure that it did you hit it GAO report is that that is going taken into account ones that are issued through 2017. So Michael what that meant is people first I think that the GO estimate as wildly wrong I think it's going to be more like two times better even wartime debt purple and departed initiate. And the second part of that is below and they're going to be issued over the coming in twenty years under the current loan rules. And I I calculate looking at eight different reasons the first reason is that the growth of tuition and inflation are currently being back in the sport cas. So the cost of college is grown 3% above the rate of inflation over the past ten years obviously loan subsidies are going to drastically increase I don't think they're modeling that. Trying to sell at a stop you there for just a second do you think. That college tuition with a declining student base will continue to escalate at that same rate as it has in the last thirty years. Right so what applied model is obviously you can't expanded about the rate of inflation forever oh education would be greater than aside the economies the I I think it would you're gonna have happen is. A I'm more slowly expanding rate in the grip situation I think that 3% apple probably dropped 2% of that 1% above the rate of inflation before it hit the big growth. You know rate of inflation and I think it's gonna start declining but I don't see that changing for a while until they lockdown some of these stood on rules. You point out something about tax deep balls so let's let's go through the. The scenario where a lawyer goes to Los that are new layer Russo law school he's got 300 grand total debt to. And then he goes to work for non profit for ten years in the that's all forgiven. Right right. So there's two kinds of forgiveness right there's there's public service loan forgiveness which is what you reference thing and there's the price excellent forgiveness and boat are going to be enormously expensive. As far beyond. The estimate the currently so an example the lawyer would work you know as an assistant state attorney for ten years to pay medium well. Maybe two to 3000 year understood what debt of 300000. An entire balance gets wiped out an attack. Parent seniors directory. And the other possibilities that what are goes into the solo practice and then the same payment that does so overt. 20/20 five years at that point total loan balance for the 300000 actually people out. Six this 700000. Then that income is taxable to and a lawyer would owe the IRS about 300000 dollars and a lot unpacked and that. And given it 62% of Americans don't have a thousand dollars remembered he'd been there a default on. And it's got to be covered by the taxpayers as well that's not being model right now. Yet so that's basically what you're saying is that these people didn't pay for their student educations are certainly not been paid taxes with the loans forgiven. Right now that's that I I heard a I don't disagree at all what about you you referenced something. Fraudulent. College debt are you referring to these for profit schools weary years who lot of debt forgiven. What could be it could be a lot larger than that actually go that low hanging fruit is. All these poor profit especially for profit graduate school yet that are college's law school medical school a lot of that are based in the Caribbean Scotland. And even in the mainland in their producing graduates that have passed rate that. Professional man needed to actually use the education of maybe 50% lower and the unemployment rate personally school you know 203040%. At graduation. So if a student can prove to department education at the college defrauded them in the application process and they might be eligible to have their entire debt forgiven. I experience overseeing that ITT tech which you know shut down and write because of broad and I think that that's gonna get expanded to a lot more for profit schools. I also think there's a chance that a lot of not for profit name brand highly ranked schools. Could be at risk of it in the future because they're treating people. You know an average debt to income ratio and in major profession like ministry and veterinarians. Is over to you to. Three now so that's impossible to pay back so what's gonna happen disease. Schools that are graduating people that are Erica but it Abdullah. Kind of a crazy question why why would anybody. Pay their loans under the scenario. What there's there's only one reason that you word net because that saves you money so the very best borrowers. Are with you know debt to income ratio is below one. Help people and I practiced refinance subprime lenders and cut their interest rates. And that now private investor on their loans because they're a very good credit risk and it didn't tell great. Great investment product and the government gets stuck. With the worst yet so you'd repay that debt. You know you're not expecting to benefit from the federal subsidies but if you owe more than two times your income I help people in my practice take advantage of the government role. And in that case you know you're gonna pay anywhere between twenty cents on the dollar and seventy cents on the dollar what you actually. And so what you're saying is that people that are paying them back are people that go to med school go to law school. You know a partner there a new associate general offers Macon 159 year a good offer but a trillion dollars is not being paid back so there's going to be no consequence of not paying it back because everybody's not paying it back. Well the thing is if you wanna make real money you can pay it back is that the case Travis link if you wanna go out and make if your doctor and you make 700 grand a year you'd pay back your student loans. That's actually not true and that's one of the reasons why did that bill is going to be so much higher than anybody realizes that for example at Princeton areas. And neurosurgeons straining last deduct seniors right though there are certain trains not for profit. Academic teaching hospital usually. Don't they make maybe sixty to 80000 dollars a year for the first seniors their training that they can make artificially low payments so like breeder 400 dollars a month. In the nick indeed effort in years. And it hit the entire you know 40500000. Dollar medical school for giving tax free at the end of their training. And they don't want to become a neurosurgeon making 60700000. Dollars a year notes due to death. That the current one ruled right now aren't the biggest you know giveaway and scholarship program in the country's history I think they actually have the content. They BP and take an entitlement to Medicaid and Medicare currently. Travis thank you very much for your time and student loan Planar dot com right 'cause I'm getting tax questions asking how to get in touch with you. In which year did the doors released their first albums were doing trivia today about Jim Morse and in the doors. In which year did the doors released their first album 68680. Is our Texan bright deduced text. The number. At the answer to that number in the first one with the correct answer generates the fifty dollar donation to a favorite charity of your choosing. 68680s. That tech's number. Send it clears a bill to ease the FDA. And drug and medical device approval process and there's more industry friendly era expected I think that's fair to say given other Republicans coming in charge now not only the presidential level but. At the senate and congress. This could cut red tape leading to quicker approval of drugs and devices. Particularly new drugs that are proposed that you know. The Afghan efficacy might be questioned you know but this does raise some issues very we've talked about it's great to. You know give that drug does to someone who has no hope. And you know you rushed it to approve a drug that you have has questionable efficacy. The issue here is that Medicare and Medicaid in many cases in the paint these drugs and and they know work here in fact oftentimes do not work in fact I just read a survey. Of a couple of drugs that were. Approved on this basis and they found virtually zero benefit. So again it's it's a tough situation I mean you you want the poll potential. Answer your problem to me and offered. But at the same time who's gonna pay for and a lot of times is very expensive. Tucker did you ever try. That blue apron. Now an amateur and a you John you're trying to no nobody I I had it for a couple months and was. Was it good. It was a lot of work. It was a lot of work yet not enough food not a good combination for me you know I'm on the big eater. So and and it would use the thirty minutes to prepare now and I'm not doing that and it was. So I I I I would just say no we we canceled. I thought I'd opt for the chicken pot pie had last night but how it's all it was awesome it was fantastically well tree did you have your Tucker dog at this weekend program we need to have a cattle for every week we have right every Wednesday. And to. I mean it was that you let other people other companies are getting into this dinner and box them Martha Stewart. And a lot of yeah it is the big food producers and the big boys are following the little guys into this in fact Tyson Campbell's soup Hershey. Are all working with on line carriers to challenge the meal kit companies like smaller companies and little Mitch. Caught on and the big boys is saying it's that was a pretty good to us we've got to get a piece of the by an opponent and oh. You know it's it's more expensive it is going to the grocery store yeah. But I guess there's a convenience factor and I know a lot of yuppies and millennium is that used in a bit in it like. Ivan Neeson mutiny only club guide assembled school go to the storage stuff I think any of the Starbucks kind of guy two yeah his his input is important Starbucks yuppie type. I expect that takes. About twenty years younger but an apple partner. So the surgeon general. Has determined. That electronic cigarettes. Pose major risks. I thought these are the ones that rate visa like the vapor or whatever it Ito I think he's a different vapor geysers and so. It's leading to increased use. So the more tobacco we use of the worse it is you can have better tobacco and worst tobacco but it's not a good thing and it's becoming. More politically and socially palatable. And it could reverse some major positive trends that we have in cigarette use. Nationally we've got a steady decline for over forty years in cigarette use. Because it's for cleanup socially acceptable and we know that offers. The problem quote unquote with. It's becoming more socially acceptable. Yeah this is increasing. More usage and shock 10% of tenth graders are using east here. How advocate their life history is actually what this out of it get there and but when I was in high school dale people's smoke him so hard it for tenth graders get their hands in Maryland. Not hard and it's in every high school in American. It's this is Iowa people say that it did education's the key thing he of the legal vs usually never works week which I agree. But we know that cigarettes cause major health problems and so it's legal. But usage is going down because of awareness. Of alcohol use we you know we understand that the abuse causes major problems. And we to a problem but you know it's manageable and in and the problem here is that. Bank of America shares continue to rally they are up 41 cents today trading at 2298. To put this in perspective. During the last year you could have paid as little on its ten dollars and 99 cents per share BankAmerica. And again we you know sought that it was undervalued so is selling at a small percent of his book value which is it's worth giving. No value to the value of the franchise just simply the assets minus liabilities. And they've always had the best deposit base of any bank in the best and biggest best and biggest. Which is what attracted Warren Buffett to Hawaii as they charge so the team require. In order to get free stuff. BankAmerica if that when it. He insists it. Are there are other banks that you go to as savings and while there are but people they'll credit unions the the of a lot of depositors in its 20000 dollars to get into the tent. To get the free stuff like that free online banking right in Grand Prix checks in you know just you know paint the musical or gift of twenty but on that Tony and you make. Right and this is worked really well for them and now they've got to yield curve where they actually making. Making some money and you know things are looking really good for Bank of America right now highly they've always been highly capitalized. It now there are actually making some money to the top of that we talked yesterday about how they might start increasing their dividend dividend yield is all it dividend to thirty cents. In naked it's one point 3% right that's about. Quarter of what used. I quit and but there payout ratio is very low right and the feds have kept their payout ratio low. So they can build their capital. Since the trump bumps this is absolutely petrol bombs stock. And and and the good things from Bank of America is even if there was no less friendly regulatory environment they've improved their balance sheet so much that even a democratic administration that was more stringent and likely would have allowed them to increase the pay out increased their buybacks. They've they've they've improved fundamentally. You'd know that giraffes are facing extinction. You know had no idea now you know. Now see you learn something here on the financial injured. And a 40% decline. In the population of giraffes and who doesn't. Edited down to only 100000 there were 150000. In the 1980s the reason. Growing human population loss of abstinence Ida. Loss of habitat through agriculture and mining we know what the illegal hunting and the human conflict in African countries. So I mean that the species has been classified as vulnerable to extinction they're down 200000. Which is that remarkable art. Up next we will be joined by Christopher would be. We're going to be talking about Harold. Mexican cartels are expanding their control over the US heroin market you'll be shocked. I don't look like keeper of the teeth so weird is most of our heroine come from Christopher. So of the overall majority of heroin that it's in Europe or America order so much of the 1998000. It was conference South America primarily from Columbia didn't go more recently the last four years. As our primary origin point cart out there are pushing very hard to produce the next. Station market you. I I read in reading your article I could see you know where being consumed how is it getting yours coming in by boat is coming in. Our armed by car is coming in by plane how physically how's it getting from Mexico and South America to. New Haven, Connecticut. Well and who has an interest in Mexico or across order primary transmit it by Atlanta and what that means is that he's a packed some packages chicken truck trailer resorting to arms and cars and just. Driver across Egypt and the southwest border. Court or which connects. You want instant the primary I think they do it sees something like half of the amount totally struck out the board is there. Than in the Arctic patrol can't catch it. We're isn't catching it. Allowing that he has quite a bit of it and that's the quarter in a and other programs and Tony this came. But I mean it's coming through actual would you report crossing this excuses like detectable even put you know of course there's. You know it'll get there without a doubt that they stop. Should benefit do you think we would realize if we really were to crack down. On this at the border make you know redouble our efforts to try to stop it wood which is given in another way. Well I mean it's the top border enforcement in areas where art. You know come across things you might intercept traffickers and people could across the border but. That's not a single cleanup of the not a majority of the truck compartments and cup it carried across actual checkpoint then helped wonder. So where where's the biggest concentration. Of heroin users in the United States. North east the Midwest. City I believe it's the most use according to release speak PDAs figures to that. There are new York and Philadelphia have work to be triggering. Our users and then put in the Rust Belt of the midwest and Ohio there's heavy usage there. Now there of the heroin that's made in Colombia because I think he told us that in your article. Then it's Colombian heroin that's being used in the northeast. Is that coming in via Mexico or is it coming in our our people bringing in on planes how. Physically housing getting to the northeast. For the north in particular and border. Colombian cocaine. Imagine that we are that is coming in pretty error by city because of the distance in this two point. In the past. Colombian government positions and mixed income organizations are still there are too great a lot of trucks and Central America and Mexico. But ethnic organizations and did two paralympic released in the back traffic. Now Christopher how many heroin users do we have in the United States today. Compared to what we had in 2007. So correlate to the UK BA that's is that right now orderly then 2014. It was about 430000 people. We're labeled current news which means that he and sometime in the past months and that's up from about 160. Two. So it's more than doubled almost tripled to one could argue. Aria goes the Jews. Largely different body you know extensive use of the Tokyo painkillers which kind of an insult to addiction. Yet anecdotally that number's probably increasing as we speak don't you suspect. I'm sure it's going out puncher that. Very expensive and the most likely point to continue going up. No wit de how many deaths have occurred because of heroin overdoses in 2014.
