I mean. This is the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and shut sun out. You're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and sharks are. It is the day before Thanksgiving and all of those are the intro to our program says with trucks out and Barry Armstrong. Very Armstrong has taken the day off today I don't know its Canadian Thanksgiving or what's going on exactly announcer when Canadian Thanksgiving is it has really been a highlight in my life. But I'm here with Mike Armstrong actually taking the place of Berry. Like to see if more folks. And you know we've we've got a pretty full showed today we've got Somalis are great guests lined up going to be talking. About fifteen minutes with Michael court brief from the New York Times. About Donald Trump's plan to help coal miners are going to be talking about. And the things that he can't even some of the things that he might not be able to do well it's going to be joined a little bit later in the show. By Damien Conover or Morningstar. He's going to be talking about a couple of different stocks with us today in our final stock talk. Prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. But I think good place to start when we got 88 dated dumped today. In in financial data we still some additional pieces that are going to be coming out this afternoon we actually fed minutes at 2 o'clock this afternoon. But everything was kind of pushed up because the holiday this week and so we've got jobless claims you've got durable goods orders we've got mortgages would get a whole bunch of data. And that's a pretty good place to start let's let's talk first about jobless claims coming in at 251000. For the week. Pretty much in line with where we've been over the last couple months or so we'd been below that recently but a very strong numbers. Yeah very strong numbers load comparison the last report but the last where blues things in the water so why about in line no big surprises there jobless claims continue to improvements. Nothing substantial that are durable goods orders coming in at four point 8% growth for the month of October when it out of the water excluding transportation so pulling out things like airplanes and cars that tend to distort things from month to month. Still coming in at 1% north of the point 3% expectation there you you're you're sinks and decent numbers here. Thrown a lot of these reports in this one in particular this is something that bodes well as far as industrial spending. And the types of things that you like to see. For an economy to grow and healthy man do you think this speaks a lot to both the candidates talking a lot about infrastructure spending what would you think this is an indication. I don't know really I think that you know it could just be a one month aberration that's that they always have to look out with this. Is it could just be you know some kind of fluke one month bumpy this isn't something where we've seen these kinds of numbers consistently so until we get a second one. You know I don't know how much that place into especially. These are the October numbers coming before the election night it happened so I brought both candidates because this was back in October when read an avid yes and it's it if it remains to be seen whether or not this is going to be sustainable but a good number you know good number for the month of October there. Iron very strong. You know it's it's something good to see their mortgage numbers bouncing back after a tough week last week where mortgage applications were down 9%. On some higher rates back up five point 5% this week and so bouncing back a little bit I think as people may be figure out OK how much how much home cannot afford. And people still looking to buy just maybe not the exact same house he had I think I think there is a lot of concern there about rising interest rates or if you are thinking that portraits on the way out and there are people who can walk things in before that starts to happen. When he people that are buying right now that are going through that process and had to change neo homes that they've been looking at the cause of this. Knowing that knowing that had the change but I know two people that are working on this and you know so one person was repurchasing one person is refinancing. And the refinance or had to kind of redo their plan you know they're trying to get to that to a fifteen year maybe they're trying to get down to ten years and it to go with a fifteen year instead he's a rate changes. So obviously if you are buying or selling a home now that is something that you do need you keep in mind is that rates are about a half percent higher. Than they were just two to three weeks ago so extreme he's going to affect you what you're buying or selling. There is gonna be a little bit of a shift that is happening there. As we continue to go forward no signs of those rates are going to be coming back down. Any time soon the moment. Let's begin to some of the other top stories that we have right off the bat here this one came out late yesterday. And it was I think pretty surprising move. A judge striking down. The department of labor's ruling to increase the amount required. Before people would be paid overtime or before people are no longer eligible for overtime. That ruling being struck down and leaving I think a lot of employers and employees with questions about how they're gonna be paid next year. Yeah it flee and people the big question referred Bruno from so currently current the current code says that if you make. Less than 2.3 1660. Dollars you must be paid for overtime work the proposal is to bump that number up. Yeah it nearly more than double news nearly doubled to 47476. Dollars you if you make less than that that you must be paid over this comes to. Yeah managers at places like Wal-Mart mcdonalds or working sixty hours week but not making any overtime and the Texas judge basically shut this down. It's instinct who knows what would happen under term presence here is my just get repealed right away but now everyone's just kind of waiting and seeing here. Yeah leaves a lot of people in limbo in particular. Some some places some employers had actually already made changes to people's wages prior to this going into effect so I know Wal-Mart for example. Had some managers that were making 45000 a year they bumped them up to 48000. Prior to serve them just to get around this you can't go take that back nine yeah Bobby yeah you can't bump them back down so. I think they're gonna be someplace where people are still trying to figure him what what exactly is going to be going on here in this does continue to add some uncertainty. The tick in particular we have for a lot of retailers who I think this was really aimed at. Heading into the first part ready voice and love about policies and that's huge time for overtime for workers and there's a lot of I guess. Maybe a good thing for the retailers here. Yeah I mean potentially you'd you do get maybe some relief for retailers but no one really knows what's gonna happen yep now you know it's it's still is a question is out there. And anytime you have uncertainty it something that hand in the wing on a business just frustrates employers some awesome news from mob Smartphone market today. We've talked at length about how even though apple doesn't. Controlled the majority of the Smartphone market re make pretty much all the profits. This is still true apple captured 91%. Of global Smartphone profits in the third quarter that Smartphones is a hole made about nine billion dollars globally in terms of profits this is not. Sales this is you know what the companies actually made. Apple out of that nine billion made eight point 19 billion of it they're pretty much the only people who actually make money on only. Game in town right now and you know it's inching UCL those critiques of apple right now slowing in the competitive. This speech and the speaks. Blanks about there's there's successful in this in this in this specific market cut costs and production just in high prices for their phones that that's fine so amazing that no one else is making money it's it's just. Pretty much them and it is not like Samsung is charging lower price you know Sam's and price are pretty much in line with apple two that the new Google the pixel phone prices. Pretty much in line with apple and there's still the only ones who were able to do a profitable. It's its engines this just barely captures holes Samsung actually it happened towards the end this year's I would imagine that this might even go further in the other direction at Sampson and you lose a little bit cast thinks they're going to be ultimately it'll be the cash probably. Tucker we've got poll question today yes on financial exchange showed dot com we're doing a little bit of a Thanksgiving theme yes it's a very important. Paul requests or Maria today. Hi everybody very Armstrong here from the financial exchange and I'm joined by. G-8 to whose senior vice president at leader bank leader bank does a tremendous amount of mortgage loans as a matter of fact. I've used them a couple times to refinance properties in the past. Jake how's the mortgage does these days it's an extremely busy very. There are a lot of people buying homes. So that's kept the purchase market very very busy and on top of that race are still at all time lows right so we've a lot of folks who are refinancing their homes either to get a better rate or pull some cash out because their properties appreciate it that's arisen and asked how does somebody know whether they should call to refinance. Well you know. Dude there's really 22 ways if they feel that the rate can be improved. Give us a ring to town and you know thirty year fixed raise her all time lows. If you have anything in the in the 4% range frankly give us the rink and you might be able to do something to or if you need to take some cash and of your property wondered for college tuition for your kids aren't you guys have home equity lines of credit we have home equity lines of credit as well and the cool thing about that is. If you already had a great look breed on your first mortgage and get a home equity line of credit which will leave your first loan as it is allow you access the equity built up in your home makes an awful lot of sense and you've got fifteen year fixed rate mortgages five year adjustable rate words all types and playing week we have all types of that in addition to that were actually very active Jumbo lenders so. And his properties have really appreciated in the markets in Massachusetts. There's been a higher demand for Jumbo loans and we do a lot of that so last year Berry were actually not the number two home purchase minor mass. It uses it for you congratulations. And our brand new web site financial exchange showed dot com click the on demand includes I didn't follow the markets from pillar to post polish financial exchange Joseph Johns come. So story this morning as I was getting prepped two to do the show here. Which from the Wall Street Journal and the headline on it was really Alzheimer drug teams potentially save a dismal year. For farm and you know I was pretty interest in this because it talked about the other potential of this drug. And the drug being called. A receive I can pronounce this correctly. So. So that no. I can't Mike you wanna try stolen exam about Sola so silly and as a map whatsoever as a map I think it is. Not the drugs ON is a map was over a real hope I think for people either suffering from alzheimer's or dealing with the family members suffering from it. And unfortunately. News today that the alzheimer's drug actually failed a late stage trial this came out. Early this morning and unfortunately. A setback here both for the company as well shoppers ovals. Yeah you know in terms the company impact in that stock trade down barely by about 13% on you know missed expectations here at that drugs not to be coming out anymore. And Wall Street Journal certainly missed this missed the story here animated him how would they know they're going to come out this news this morning but. Nonetheless stock price down considerably and that just you know marks a cap on a pretty rough year for firm. Now what what what are my interest in here is this is a drug that have been tested twice before. For efficacy in on. In these types of trials it have been tested more dealing with people with more advanced disease. An eight they've found to be unsuccessful the thing they were testing in this trial was whether or not it could help people with early stage alzheimer's. And fortunately. Ends up by turning out that there's just not a whole lot that this drug ends of two. That data import start for you violently in that tough for humans have from the disease. We're joined now by Michael core grief from the New York Times and the title of the article. From the times is a bleak outlook for Trump's promises to coal miners Michael thank you very much for joining us tonight. Your Michael when you look at what when he wrote this article. I guess that at the starting point is what were those promises to coal miners what did Donald Trump say he was going to try to do. Took me to the Krajina from the that you can restore. All the job that the law. Regulation. Should which you claim quarter. The big drop in May and coal. Source energy should. Eject I lifting all these regulations clean air. Limit. It would bring back the coal. And the return. How many how many it promised that it was pretty unspecific. Go about it. How many jobs have actually been lost in the coal industry since its peak. I mean and out it is it is fraction. Of what lies. The late. You don't like it did pick out there. And it or are you. All. That lord sort it it's much much. Much much what it. And we typically out here West Virginia has really the key area in coal country are there any other state that have been disproportionately affected by the transition away from coal. It's pretty broad a crock collegiate though it's West Virginia and all IO. Aki. All it did very well trump during election. But then also a lot of a lot of cold day. Mined out wet. Federer in. Jail. And go mine are circus. This circus mine. Also exploited a lot of people. Just the court. She didn't need that. Workers. That all. Your workers workforce. Do we have any information on the the cost of these new regulations that have come into place over the last ten to fifteen years. How much they have increased the cost of coal or is it a case where look. Just because of supply and demand the prices actually been all and even with those increased our regulations. You know it it's hard to matter to me. You know it. It definitely increased. The cost by. All orders and but what also it happened to. All. Natural so. It costs are cheap. It'll be. Done it does. What were previously coal fired. Electrical. I converted. It's cheaper. It. More environmentally. That's really. Why at this point of coal at that beat. Source should. Is there still a strong international market for coal and if so. Is this something that could potentially be exported to other countries or is that not the case. Well there's there is definitely a strong. In India are. You coal development issues. So much street she rules. The biggest market so bad that the that the market berries and coal. The bigger market in the market at. Quite. Right now after. It tumbled out New Year's. China and cold beer but he used. Coal not so much fuel utilities. Port makes you'll. Teach. You expect it still going on there there's. A lot of it had been a huge. Coal. At eloped with the economy. But there's there's better. Just that. That's cheap coal outlook. Don't know. But it's true to Pitt and it is. So looking at these these workers who were previously being in the dealer who previously been in the coal industry doesn't sound like there's an awful lot that can be done to eat eat you can't change prices and change demand just on a whim. It seems like these are market forces that are moving here. Yet at. Our market forces. Or other issue that we. Are being herded all of many. Jews should. A lot port on. Big machine. That you let's look at yet. I think Donald Trump made a lot of big promises I think. Cole is what are sure I'll marketed. To deliver. It because there's very little government. Change. Job. Very good I appreciate the time Michael and hope unit and we have a great Thanksgiving. You Michael corporate from the New York Times talking. About coal miners and in the of the played of them. And the fact that you know there's not a ton that can necessarily be done at this point. To try to bring back gold discuss of the economics of natural gas and other technologies and an energy sources. That have really moved to the forefront. At this point we're gonna take a quick break when we come back. We're doing trivia so make sure that you stick with us world's gonna be talking. But how Alaska plans. At AG were ready to help you pursue your financial goals so call us toll free 800. 393. 4001. That's 80393. 4001. And set up your appointment today Mike's story out of Alaska. About their plan to cut health care premium cost it seems to me that it's not really doing anything to do so it's just kind of shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic. Is this story that I in the Wall Street Journal is just crazy speeches this whole new plan from Alaska is being hailed as this conservative plan to control health care costs and the issue is the same issue that a lot of states her. Yeah seeing is that the people that enough for the health care law. Mainly have a lot of bad health issues that are really expensive in the insurers that hike up the premiums about 50%. He's not a healthy people signed up so Alaska's plan here. Is rather than hiking up the premiums by fifty some odd percent they're just gonna take 55 million dollars in tax revenue and subsidized plan. How was cut. So this makes no sense to he this is something that I just don't understand so the plan is. We're gonna say okay we're gonna pull the 500 sickest people out of the health insurance system. And directly cover them ourselves through your tax revenue. So instead of paying through. Your health care premiums you just paying an additional taxes right you're not actually doing anything to solve the problem all you're doing. Is taking money from one place instead of from another place in someone's paycheck. It does absolutely nothing to change although it's gonna change that state tax liability that people having their paycheck. That's gonna go up in health insurance premiums are gonna go down then it changes nothing yeah. There's not no net change here. In less you're one of those people I guess that would is not buying health insurance and now you're going to be responsible for pain has increased tax then. Seeing increased huge question that I have slopes of these 500 people. Did they get their health care completely freaked. I imagine yourself put something I'd have no idea but no clue I did I mean there's there's still paying that tax like it I don't. It just it doesn't do anything I just don't understand this whole article is talking about. Well you know this is going to be used across other states to make this you know transition this obamacare acts suits up and that's you know real conservative policy to. Improve the care and it's you're just taxing people more to cape care for people that experts what went by so our socialist what what I find so interesting is this was put through a Republican legislature. As well as backed by an independent governors that this isn't. Democrats going out and saying hey we won just tax intact. The this is a Republican legislature that decided to do this so. It's a little interesting to see it and I think it really just speaks in fact no one knows how to deal health yeah about I had hoped that more people poke some holes in this and it's just shuffling the deck and you know hiding it cost through tax tax. Break like this this would be like hey good news you know likening health insurance we're just gonna raise taxes instead and covered. It doesn't do it to its next and later a single Payer system it if it doesn't. Work that way so Alaska do some interest in things in terms of Bach. Deck chairs typed I would love it sounds like text and nor Colin and explained that slings up that we're missing here in the west it is preposterous. Great story out of Twitter yesterday. Twitter. Somehow Tucker I have you seen this. I about Jack Dorsey now I haven't showed Twitter mistakenly we're not sure exactly how this happened between around 9:15 PM yesterday. Suspended the account of their CEO if I was at all. They suspended the account of their CEO by mistake so don't look so he actually had to go and start into account I guess. And at one point he only had a 151 followers and liked it because I'll I'll. It is like how do you suspend your own CEOs account. That's hard to do some and as he's getting tired. That's exactly berg being blocked from FaceBook I remembered or do you remember when was it a couple weeks ago on FaceBook started sending out notification to people that they died. If you remember that this where you would log on to your FaceBook account and it was like a memorial page being created in your memory it's like I'm still here. I'm not I'm not going anywhere where they offer any explanation why they suspended his account just technically should yet they they said that it was quote and you don't colonel mistake. Please. I think this would be great for like April fools' day but that's not for another five months yes a little off there. To tech companies you know what someone I T is intra. How are things it's just you know if you can't get right that you're not supposed to. And your founder. How do we trustee on the bigger things. And how to talk on the bigger things cannot be trusted so. That's just one of them also news out of FaceBook today they are there's apparently an internal program and FaceBook. To build some censorship tools to help them move into the Chinese market. This lake. This is the kind of thing that makes people not sell albums that. With me tuna yeah you know FaceBook trying to get back into China they've been banned since I think it was 2009. You know czar announced trying get back into the Chinese market in order to get back in there what they think they need to do is completely prevent. Certain posts from coming up now. They censor certain post in certain countries in Pakistan Russia. The government to a fun hey you need to pull this post is not habit in order they think today nor do business in China though they're gonna have to form some sort of algorithm. To completely prevent these stories ever showing up in the first place. Which. You know today. Interest in trying to do business and job. We're what I find amazing is FaceBook has one point eight billion monthly active users despite not being I'm not a single engine if you've got one point four billion people that you just don't have access to and they still have one point eight million monthly users so. I find that amazing I just. It it bothers me when. When companies bend over backwards to do things I mean this is FaceBook. This is on the goes against what they've always claimed they stood for they're look they're guarding over backwards to Marseille to a fascist Mark Zuckerberg in higher reason in his entire rationale for starting and continuing to build FaceBook. Was to make the world more open and transparent that is what he's said since day one. This doesn't do that this is kind of like when Google whose initial motto was don't be evil started doing all kinds of stuff that had some questionable law. You know merit to it based on what they needed to do to cooperate with the government itself. Well you know it's it's an ancient place he puts himself in the eighties that started this company based on those principles and he's also. Beholden to shareholders. And if you're a shareholder he wanted to sell it shareholder vote the way they built the share classes he is able to still control that company so. This is not something where he's in danger of being voted out as CEO or anything message itself. So if I go quite that far but it's it's not something that I relate to he certainly. What's the let's talk a little bit about. Apps while driving OK a lot of luck this some that I find amazing is well. I'm always amazed just how many people actually not only text while drive but I see people at this point there watching videos while they're driving but it if it's got the point where. I think people just don't realize they're actually driving and. I don't know what I think everyone has this common misconception. That they are way better driving and everyone else on the road and wade better drive and I think there have been studies to show that a hit 8% of drivers think they're there above average and you sit there and go well look. Not all of you can be very percent to around that's not what average means. But. Auto regulators are trying to build in driver modes to block apps potentially I don't know how that's gonna work. Yeah it. Well I'll works yet as President Bush passenger. You know. Boy how how does it know where you are in the coffee yet. Exactly point to a question of whether or not self reporting type thing where you know airplane you don't pay to play on airplay and argue that ministers is to reduce errors you attendance. If you are doing is that Rania pulled over and you don't have the driver mode on ticket for it means that the news tonight. Imagine fifteen years anyway is now with the let's get to be thriving and it's like no. So we don't watch all the videos we want short term solutions for short term problems so that's what it is while you are correct about that chuck we saw a seven point 1% increase in driving fatalities and 2050 under the Hudson toward fourteen people need to stop being more yeah I agree but if I Jenkins had just stopped decade that stop texting when you're driving. Stop watching YouTube and driving stop tweeting stops that snapped chatting you know whatever it is based mass is to Graham whatever it is. Stop Buehrle is get an hour. You skip or how did your order when you're driving there's so much stuff as well I don't know if you figure like all the other people to death in driving I don't know that first terrible and and that is that you're bad person. But you can just judge people by doing it it's great. Now let's talk a little bit about insurer matched we've talked to you a lot about our friends at insure a match agency previously they exist. You're talking about a couple stocks with us David thank you for joining us. We they mean let's talk first about Eli Lilly tough morning for the company. As one of their drugs to treat alzheimer's field. In a trial do you see this as a buying opportunity or does this concern you. Yes great question and it is a great buying opportunity and the reason is. You know there's a lot of other really powerful things going on at Eli Lilly they've got a great pipeline of other. Drugs that have. Higher probability of preaching the market and the alzheimer's drugs. And then beyond that they're doing major cost containment initiatives that we don't you have the firm and amplify the bottom line growth over the next couple years. And in our view it is a bit of an overreaction to what could've been a great drive but nevertheless was highly risky because it was going after alzheimer's disease. Which is incredibly complex and very difficult to get you drug development out there so again. It's a great buying opportunity for Lilly. Day and that overreaction this is a company that lost ten billion dollars in market cap. For drug it's never even been on the market. Correct you know this is a drug that I think the market was thinking this pretty close to 5050 whether or not it would reach the market. It could have had a huge potential because said the prevalence of alzheimer's disease and potentially the nature of the truck could've. Shifted the disease itself. Big potential highly uncertain you know have a drug worked it was stock would an awful lot. The spine area event for completely Eli Lilly's pretty unusual typically don't see this big of a swing that because of those dynamics are seeing the stock moved as much as it is. Let's turn now to take a little look at buyer this accompany obviously been in the news an awful lot this year about some potential merger and acquisition talk. Already this company going is this one that you are bullish or bearish on. But the nor were very bullish on innocent Maine where I think there's a lot of concerns about. They are making an acquisition of months it took it away from some of the healthcare focus that it had been in. And beyond that there are concerns about the pipeline for repair and when we look at the pipeline it is concerning it has been that strong. But what's important about the health care aspect of payers they do not face a lot of patent losses over the next five years. Lot of time to fill that pipeline. And the earnings potential growth between now the next five years is very strong we beat him to close to 10% a year. That given a multi sport 2017 earnings of about 11%. Think a big disconnect there and I think it's a good opportunity for investors. Looking at this company is there any concern you have that. At the moment. It is not a US based company any concern from either a foreign exchange perspective or international trade. It's good question. You know I would say half in the uncertainty around international treaties between elevated post election. You know a lot. You know beer investment is with in the US I think there is a little bit of cannot sit there by having some of them that's been in the US but you know I just curious and increased uncertainty with bad I haven't. I don't think that is enough to offset what we think it's a good investment opportunity. Very good Damien thanks very much for joining us today. There. Damien Conover from Morningstar talking about Eli Lilly with a ticker LLY. Buyer with a ticker BAY. And talk a little bit about China we had take a break before we got to the story here and this is something that's going to be interesting to monitor. Over the next years oh China with the US apparently. You know getting ready to pull out of the potential DPP the trans Pacific partnership. Trying to now looking to move it if China looking to move in. And really take control of that Pacific rim area and potentially try to reshape it in its own image with the US pulling out. Elementary assuming that we do pull out and there's you know there's also been the talk about our investments in foreign government militaries and things like that in that region by the new administration and you know I think China price sees this as an opportunity to fill a void here in could be seen as Eddie marched player in the room and really. Drive the policy changes going forward. Yet it's something that. I don't think it's gotten a lot of reporting until now where you parties in China make a couple moves post election is going to be something. To keep an iron because the one of the major goals of the TPP whether you like how was written what you don't like how was written. One of the major goals was to be a hedge against China right and in that void. I think there are some questions about what happens to that region. Yeah you know I've there's a lot of that to be fair but to be it wasn't really US though it wasn't about making greed deals via the news really about making our wise region's stronger. And without that you know of the agency how to take that place. Tucker let's go back to our poll question from the beginning of the day very aware of one of the most serious questions we have ever asked on the financial exchange what is your favorite Thanksgiving side dish what are the results so far stuffing is leading away so far early in the processor that's on December sent a man indicators it's second with only 2% and no votes for the other two options vegetable or Kramer's he mashed potatoes I need your help. But they want to give up access to their assets they still like playing with their money's elect investing excellent traveling is there anything they can do to reduce the size of their state. Yet still maintain some control in the ability to use the assets they've accumulated you know they're actually as I remembered you remember the fiscal cliff you know that but in late 2012 should grow we had a big fiscal cliff where everything was gonna go back to a million dollars in your exemption federally was gonna be reduced to a million and that we're a constant extreme tax pain for a lot of people so what we. It is the day before Thanksgiving very Armstrong off celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving. Tux on and Mike Armstrong in here. Today he's not actually celebrating Canadian and British that's a whole different dates with the wind is that actually to an October something something like that is this difference. So when you were growing up did you celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving you know celebrate any Canadian holidays. None of them I would have let's say a occasionally there they would sing in the Canadian national center on west. What's the other one that they have there's another boxing day boxing day that's what it is. You didn't do boxing day celebration box and its operations. Thanksgiving. Today thanks it was October 10 this year October 10 okay so we're about six weeks removed from Canadian Thanksgiving. Happy American Thanksgiving everyone we are just you know under thirteen hours away at this point. Black Friday sales will be starting fourteen hours apparently is that's what we do today. Well we do have a jammed out our for you here and now we're going to be going through a number. Of different stories talk to a start start off first with our. Poll question of the day on financial exchange of dot com yes our poll question today is which is your favorite Thanksgiving side dish from me four choices for you today either stuffing. Mashed potatoes are vegetables some sort so you know squash green beans Brussels sprouts etc. Or cranberry sauce and so far leading the poll is stuffing. What's the what a what are we looking at in terms percent us at 60% stuffing 20% mess it is in in the 20% for Kramer's on so once again be more analysts here are at financial Accenture dot com very portable in particular all you was dedicated mashed potatoes voters get over to financial exchange of dot com because I am firmly on team mashed potatoes stuffing. Well Mike you're a vegetable guy right sweet potatoes sweet it is an exporter of once again the Canadian influence destroys Thanksgiving. I'm voting stuffing pork. Devoted stuffing. Fourth but vegetables is art sweet potatoes a vegetable yes. Our district area when it what else would you consider at this and that and bring him active vegetable. A national and morally here it's presented ground you know Mike this is a bigger problem that you don't habitat I think it's more of a starch you know. I could. But now that's that's about it I believe it's a vegetable I think matches is deserving NAFTA gets on categories and all questions let's take a quick look at markets. At the mid day point just about. Dow Jones is up 38 points right now the S&P is up there are down for the NASDAQ is down 22. Ten year treasury up to 2.4 percent continuing. A sell off in the long term bonds thirty year treasury now to three point 07%. Ten year treasury just a couple months ago was at one point six seeds over a three quarter percent bond there. That is going to factor into mortgages mortgage rates are gonna continue to go up a little bit over the next couple weeks and make sure you are in the middle of this process trying to buy a home. This is something that you might wanna lock him because those rates could be going up the next couple weeks here. Let's talk a little bit about. Well let's talk about beer mean Thanksgiving which by documentary let's let's talk about beer a great story from beer maker Carlsberg. And it's going to be happening in Singapore. They are going to be paying a lucky Singaporean. 141000 dollars to drink beer for four hours so we had a deal and how much are you required to have a certain amount in a four hour period. He not required to odd drink anything you can drink as much or as little as you want I'd you can also bring friends and there's no experience required what's the catch. Seems like a dream job there it it's it's only for one day. And it's it's 141000 dollars for one day. Good day at work that's that's that's all of this order signed. Well first of candidates and he got to Singapore right let me tell my act that might cost you got 141000 dollars I don't know this is the best dumb move Korea but corporate checks yes then might make money if that's the tell me a draft him. I'm still spending it actually I stopped myself finally but. Carper did his last year war at 101000 dollars social media manager actually one and took home. That prize here also another story out of Singapore. Kolb played the band was in Singapore. Water I'm sorry they are going to be in Singapore on April 1 27 team. Okay. The market is so hot for Coldplay tickets and pleased. You know it's used upon I just made there but the market is so hot for Coldplay tickets. That fans are paying up to 3000%. Premiums on the secondary market he that's. I don't Kolb played to me like had that kind of following important to hit. You know I kinda or are you okay frankly I and I figured you know beyoncé are dells but. Yeah really there and yet they are just getting crushed by the scalpers a year I mean. Yeah it's inching you know you go into these different countries that have just different styles of government the governments really kind of pissed about this and trying to. Cracked down on scalpers and they've done so in the past they've you know prevented scalpers from buying and selling these tickets they've gone so far in the past to avoid any tickets sold by scalpers. I'd I mean it's fine amendment some of these tickets go for 101000 dollars he Coppola I think it's a status symbol you know I have got the money you spent on this a lot of money is he cold play. Aria has a lot of money C embody. Yeah. Yeah I mean that's as more and I've ever spent probably combined in my life to go to make if you added up all the concerts in my life it's not 101000 dollars donut imclone it's not even close it's probably ten. So. In any case huge demand for Coldplay tickets in Singapore at the moment so she got to get a deal with Osama. Story coming out today up from the Wall Street Journal one of the big questions about as a marijuana becomes legal in more states. Is how do employers deal with it from a drug testing perspective. Yes sorry it's a really ancient questions being posed here as you can employers in the states that have legalized it and you know is there. The last for recreation vs medical use can they still drug test those employees and can they still. Fire them for testing positive because it the other big difference here between. You know say showing up drunk to work verses. Haider work it made when you test someone for marijuana use that's a dozen major system for very long time so it's very different to prove that someone is using on the job. While it could be just as serious an issue of urine and manufacturing warehouse in Europe showing up with him stone that's a pretty big issue. Well and obviously there are certain industries which a drug test anyways they don't care when you're using its simple you know if you're a you know a truckers someone like that are operating heavy machinery they don't like using at any point. And it makes a lot of sense just because the impairment is necessarily just short term issue as well agreed but let's. I mean let's play up a scenario if you're truck driver in you have in medical Merrill restriction prescription for cancer. And they really fire you for use in. I mean it's the same reason I'm not in the in the NBA they can fire me because I'm not tall enough to be in the NBA if I can't do the job that required of me. They they can get rid of me so I mean I guess I'm not sure I agree with I think that'll be a big lawsuit that the first and it starts to play out I would. Pretty firmly side with the truckers in that case just because of the safety issues I mean I agree I just you know seeing that play out in court where someone has a prescription. If it's being treated the same as any other prescription and nurture that. Those companies are going to be able to defend that. Absolutely let's take a quick break here when we come back. It's our daily poll question had financial exchange showed judge John. Vote your conscience there hard just vote go to financial exchange Joseph does come. Men's tennis the way. Every Wednesday on the financial exchange we talk was business owners today is no different. Tucker if someone is interested in in coming on the show what's the best way for them to contact you if their business. Yeah that's weighs just go to our website and click on contact Alison. Our email actresses are right there in our what's Asia's financial change showed dot com we can go from there. Very good and we are joined today in studio. By Roy cat and Yoni owner of conservative group and royal wanna thank you for joining us to an acute chuck for having me on the show. Mort talked a little bit about what conserve group doesn't earlier in real statement exactly what type of real estate and what makes you different from some of the other companies. Yeah well with traditional. Delivery system for new construction or renovation construction in the commercial world which is primarily what we do. Is too loud finer architect and engineer. Engaged in the service of creating architectural drawings engineering drawings. Putting that set of a drawings out for a bid to lol beating general contractors who are in our communities. And then you know following a process through to completion concert does little differently were one stop shop we're sort of setup for the marketplace as the axis today particularly. With concern to lenders and lenders worries. Concert has architecture in house engineering in house construction management in house. And our goal is a transparent relationship were all about the process where about giving to our clients the opportunity to see it in our seat next to Los electrical pilot. See exactly how it design is created see the cost of those design decisions that Hugo. So that really where we play into the banks. Preferences I think is everything down to appraisals today. You don't get loans elicited praises it has to appraise relative to the existing stock of real estate out there. So when you were able to control of design design is directed at a financial goal. It's simply adding an additional element into the process of professional service that we offer. And we say to our clients were one play shouldn't com you can get what you want you can preserve your property if you need to. And you can put in materials that will last and be cost competitive and most importantly the you can finance. Why why did what does having this I separated out as it normally is in the process how does that end up adding additional cost in. Where were the biggest gaps that easy if someone uses a process that's not some more. Well I think the tradition and the majority of the market are served well by the process of the traditional architecture. Being Don and then putting the project got a bit particularly in the public sector of the nonprofit sector work. I think openness and transparency and independent relationship between the architect who serves the master of the client. And the contractor who's a little bitter and sort of have to be watched that sort of theory is how this all came about. It's not necessarily traditionally historically the way it's been the go way back in time master builder was the term I think that I always. Modeled our company after is that one person or one group can serve the needs of the client with respect all of their professional concerns. The tradition I think navy has to do with the legal system has to do with the check and balance. Does it bring more to the table I think in the case of nonprofits where. Much money is donated where there isn't very very large concern over sort of independence of decision making. Architect to have a wonderful job and I and I have to say many friends being architects was nothing in my delivery that would suggest. There's anything wrong with architectural engineering it's a fair system the majority of the world does it. It's just that by incorporating it. We sort of are focused on business focused on private enterprise we're focused on that ability for it not to print or a business person. To get what they need to have their business grow. And to that to that extent I think our system's full of it more seamless. Now looking at where your focus is obviously mention that you do a lot of commercial development the other any particular areas that you tend to focus on within the commercial sphere. Well I think we do tend to focus on what I would call sort of small decision making. Corporation privately held corporations where the decision maker as edges. At risk the largest investment he may make in this entire business career you know people naturally think about the importance of this real estate transaction but it commonly represents. A very large portion persons. Business portfolio so. We can add value to that client when he understands the process when he sort of sees as he sits next to us through the design process how each design decision. Adds cost in incremental basis not at the end when the plans are done that does not to bid and the price has come in and as a real mysteries to how the price cut to where it is. I think that value we had really creates. Of a sense of of success in the process because the owner field will serve to feels a Fiji can see what. So where we go our large part of our market is auto dealers they've been in this even tough economies from interest and forced to do whether manufacturers yeah forced to do construction. The medical area's been very steady stance against the recession proof even though there's been great changes. We see a movement of capital from private entrepreneurial physician groups which is what the strength. More into the sort hospitals now we're doing some outreach and creating these. Rural senators. We're certainly not a downtown company and we RA yup and eastern Massachusetts company we serve the industrial parks. We serve the small communities were all up and down the southeast and part of the state and and particularly up the Cape Cod area. And you know we follow our clients so we have some large customers that does take itself. Talking with Roy caddie and Yoni of the concert group. Roy how long goaded you lost our discomfort 1993. After a fifteen year round training period of another firm worked for two engineers we're in this process. And in 1993 we began and it's been really very fortunate to started at a tough time in the economy since 93 we've had pretty much an up growth. Except for the recent. Mr. pump we had media. In his last decade but prior to that it was a very solid growth period from 93 all the way through that a perception generally there and then and then of course others you know little bumps along the way we've had. But our system has worked well because we've since we can't look at the marketplace as you woody. If you were real estate investor you're looking at where is it in our market that's somebody has sufficient success to be able to improve their capital. If that our future. Is not only in the growth of what we hope will be new economy but but. In the preservation of the huge money capitalists out here and there really is on the guest on the financial side of things but certainly the real estate asset which wields it well we ran that we owned. It's a huge huge on our investment. I think those people in the marketplace sort elect him our car buyers who have waited so long and out to reinvest in their vehicles. I think he's building answer in need of improvement I think they'll be an awful lot of he'll fixing moving changing switching to a lot of room employees do you have. A 25 and as they were primarily. A white collar operation the extent that we do have construction supervisors field supervisors project managers. Much of our work is at the front amateur hour is spent doing the deal creating the concept treating the plan creating the budget creating the documents that an appraiser would use to evaluate the project that a factor would use so so much of our services in that area. Where do you find the biggest challenge in getting new ways to that's a tough when I I don't know how to answer that that's certainly we always have successfully look to like hiring today we're always hiring a guy I would say right now we're looking for the united. I may. A conceptual estimate are very difficult position to feel as we're estimating job prior to the documents being dumped a lot of our. Fellow contractors that are out there bidding on finish plans little easier in the sense everything's on our guys have to figure out what's. We're a week where we had we do an initial us but early on and we do want halfway through and so shout out to my guy Rick who's been with me a long time looking forward retirement and dots of like to see. That kind of person committed the marketplace and so you know what it's noddle fashion to be in the construction industry and given that remind here three young guys. I mean this is really sort of a financial sort of plot an exciting. Construction doesn't seem like that to the newer generation so we find them in good schools that had your shoulder willing to work hard. Places like Wentworth if I may say in a game like pattern northeastern have great engineering programs were blessed in this part of the rich country country and yours. And architects wonderful architectural schools bust architectural college and and all the other schools around this area so. The professional were pretty good. I think in the field it's really tough I was the only fellow contractors would agreed it is really hard to find good quality is hard working talent that you know you have to. Trained usually so he take gas from raw material in hope that they stay physically fit you hope that they Tuesday. Focused they wanted to grow in their salary will roll it along with a I think there's great salary rate opportunity have a lot of off folks in your industry had to boost pay over the last year to an order to get or keep people around I think that's absolutely true I think speaks speaking about this position I'm looking for right now I think it's a bidding war I is that right located down in in the South Shore and near the cape and a boy I tell you the marketplace and the city's is much higher what wage and you know it's certainly much higher revenue. And the prices therefore higher fuel on the national church and you'll see the cities are higher. So yes I mean it's hard to find. Right now it's hard to sort of see where we're up to now we've been able to do tussling races to get through these tough times. I certainly think that we're about to see growth in the way Kerry in our industry. Roy if anyone's interested in contact you either to apply for jobs or because their interest in your services we're gonna go. Well I think our website a good place WWW. Look conserved which define me spelled CO NS ERV. Group she RO UP dot com do you would be the best or certainly you can now. Reach out to me well I feel phone number 5088886555. Very good what Roy we appreciate you joining us today in do you and your family we hope you have a great Thanksgiving and now we'll chat again soon got certainly much appreciated I enjoy the show thanks for me and thank you. Let's talk about a subject that's near and dear to my heart the article is titled what not to buy and Amazon it was on marketwatch.com. This morning. What should you know by an Amazon well. I was under the impression you should buy everything on him so I just took too confused me but I don't rarely does. Apparently there's a number putts here. That just get marked up like crazy on him zone which I guess makes sense but I cleaning products is one of them which I don't think I really buy and Amazon anyway. I haven't cared that the reason there's because of access mark up is that they're just they're able to market a pretty significantly impairs a Wal-Mart or target. I don't buy the cleaning products in the house of life I can organize I don't know how that works but I have bought clothes on Amazon rear and yet about why. Well I've zags are go out I find you know what I like and what size like if I want more of it and although you know go by and and undershirt I'll buy and Amazon all by a you know Jeanne sometimes yeah totally totally buying clothes on line. At times it'll be at once actually get right which is why I always try something on first buy it and then when I need more of an eagle on Amazon by super convenient but we don't we used to use or will you just in closing I would I would do issues. I would issues I can't issued at the trial on and walk around the store and all of us but I mean so I mean I've I know what I buy had always Biden's new balance running shoes and I know what size wouldn't be afraid. Interest and I'm not. I I don't I don't really believe in buying shoes on line like a Mike Tucker like to walk round and I can imagine how my day's gonna go nowhere in the new issues that it's important to me. Other things that you shouldn't buy on Amazon beauty products and cosmetics good I don't. I don't. You know I don't really know they'll say there hope goods. Interest in this this one it's a little bit surprising apparently. It is not necessarily the cheapest place to get things like you know linens being you know the kitchen where those all of those things are going to be I think a lot has to do with the fact that you go to a lot of these stores and I'll still be honest counsel of the players like going to Macy's Gannett. Huge it's still wears them to some of the schools here parts. Of the sales he laments we've got is it Mac granite who don't know if that's about yeah demons are my favorite segments of the year yet he's he is about as good against so he'll be talk notes about some of the great deals that we have coming up so we're not going to be sitting here after Cyber Monday and making fun of the biggest deal is on the board just absolute garbage you know always a donor that was what was it prime day where they had all of those terrible deal where I was like yeah you get the reasons awfully thousand slim Jim's right some assumptions and go OK I don't need this and it's not a deal rubber bands with a 30% office and the paper clips that I. I think present obviously okay greatly wonderful as it's ever Monday as was goofy deals wells Sony were to recap on Tuesday that again let's go into something that gets into some of the major questions that I have it's an article titled who tip and how much for the holidays. Okay and it's something I struggle with tipping to begin okay. I typically over tipper restaurants I think undertook everywhere else. Just because I don't know where else to tip and how much and you detect and went and ate at restaurants d.s when the meals over you tip. Other things are more confusing I don't understand at the wedding was the wedding was confusing for me sorry dual batteries are for four Nagin mayor and that our topic it can I was. Completely confused about who votes chip and how much has like some Morgan adds I wanted to disperse point right. You know again that's the money I'm not doing exactly but I'm always very confused about tipping outside of a a restaurant situation. We're kind of feel more in my element. But some of some of these things realized people had all of these different people in their lives. Obviously don't have kids but you don't have children I have kids doesn't change you know for for a nanny. A lot of times they say a personal gift is better than cash. A lot of I mean I'll cash today after I got in and out for the cash but that it did I think the big difference here with chipping areas. Most of the people that you'd be tipping it outside a restaurant here having somewhat personal relationships with you and actually get it right. We do on another when that you're gonna have to deal with like baby sitter okay typically you tip equal to one night's pay. Okay. You're probably a little early for them any idea maybe next year. Would it help do you have any women help at this point in Oca has now live and help us supposedly you're supposed to do as much as one week's pay. I don't know that many people have living hell I don't and I don't as well. Not the real planning on doing what one week's pay apparently. Is what is. Typical there private nurses. Cash is usually not a good idea in the situations post. Why. While it be different from living hell church run I think could be regulations from the you know and assuming most is there's work for it might limit what they actually to receive. The same thing goes for years later. He can't receive cash gifts. But usually like beer for the mailman. Who question. I've seen people who looked like a six pack and things like that you know I've I've seen that in the past lineup. Housekeeper and cleaner typically as much as one week's pay as well as a personal gift if you design that makes sense to me. Yeah that kind of computes. Hairdresser or barber I have not had a haircut since the fall of 2011. I do it all myself at this point it saved my sentence the money I've saved myself an awful lot of money there. But a holiday tip is typically not necessary because usually tip on a regular place. Okay personal trainer and coach usually a small gift or a tip of one sessions fee. Typically works massage therapist this one that I don't get who has a regular massage therapist. Like how is this something we have to figure out if this is why people hate us because we've we've have regular massage their that we deal that this is not normal. Now. Is not normal he's got a dollar walker idea I would give her attempt and you know by. Yeah it goes into alive elevator doors and now point dollars a person when I know when I lived in New York I usually. My my typical two to our doorman was on the way back I would usually bring him a beer and that would be you know kind of get back in and you know here here's you to open edit and do anything extra after. What else do we have in your package delivery paper people. Now you know lights at them you you know what what about like I I get Amazon delivered a lot like I see everything has got to arson every time yeah exactly. Every time some guys like today you know they don't public pooled tips like they do it bars and restaurants or anything like that pride in my I don't know where much. So you know those are some of the some of the people that I guess you need to tip but in your life the holiday season. Massage therapist I would argue should not be included on that list but that is. I guess just the minor quibble there let's take a little bit of a break here we come back and be joined by Matt grant from USA today. Matt is the go to expert. For Black Friday deals. As promised we are joined by Matt granite from USA today Matt comes out this every year on this exact date. To tell our listeners what the best Black Friday deals are going to be back thank you for joining us. It's my pleasure the my new favorite annual traditions so I'm happy to answer any questions you guys Abbott also. I pictures and information that stores would rather wait I don't share with listeners that. Can we start there what what do you have that you can tell us that stores don't want us to hear. Stores don't want you to know that this is they have fewer door busters but never before not because. Stayed in stock properly but last year they over stopped so what other distributors and speaking to too many of the major big box stores. He'll line up all these items where they have been subject just 30% less may of last year and how does that work out that basically means. If you're not camp out or you're not willing to destroy your Thanksgiving which I'm adamantly opposed to. You're not going to score one of those huge deal but advertise on TV or those so called leak circular. What. Online what are we seeing in terms of online ideas I know it's not really a door buster scenario because you can go from here on home but what we're losing in terms of online deals this year. Dog happy you are because the door busters we are seeing in the store in some cases. According to dropped early on one stores in the second track that wanted to share it is their used things B I'll find inventory system. You probably people are an item that helped the store placement and that also helps them determine what they should expect that so we see these deal weeks. Earlier on ice are human but that's what article about pop up in the arbor. But it actually crisis where I was like all over the case from listeners and viewers across the country to get it out a lineup and one of the things they're doing this year's. Replicating those heels are also a complete match last year when I spoke to you guys but I think what that Black Friday ads started early we were inundated probably two weeks. But this year black actually lodged in a regional basis before Halloween which is just a complete mass. As Cyber Monday is creeping into the black by district of market he's matters Wal-Mart as an example has posting their Cyber Monday deals on Black Friday.
