I. This is the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and show Oksana. You're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends and plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck saga. That's like giving hope back in time and think about when you purchase your first home. In the first time you buy a home it's. It's nerve racking you've always been attendant or maybe you live in your parents' house and all of a sudden you're signing on for an obligation could be finished thirty years you might be signing a thirty year mortgage where you're gonna pay. 2003000. Dollars a month for the next thirty years. It's a sign of confidence rating you didn't buy that house in the she felt good about your job prospects in the buy a house in the she felt. Pretty good about your career opportunities. I bring this up because. We got pending home sales data that edged up. In the month of September hi everybody it's Varian truck with you here on a Thursday and I was look at this report comes out once a month. But it gives me a sense as to how consumers are fueling about the overall economy. Yeah I gotta tell you this is it strong data. It's pretty decent point here we saw one point 5%. Growth in the number of signed contracts to purchase a home vs expectations. Of point 6% so coming in almost a full percentage point stronger there. And currently now the pending home sales now are 2.4 percent higher than September of 2015 C you're seeing more people. Going in buying properties right now whether you. Seeing it in the west in in the south we know the midwest is struggling because of the energy sector in the northeast is struggling I think shot. Not because of jobs I think the northeast are struggling because of a lack of inventory the price is an inventory of the thing holding back the northeast and the other thing after remember about the northeast is I think once you get away. From eastern Massachusetts it's a very different market also I think lot of people who come to the northeast you know they see what's going on around Boston with all the construction. But you look at a lot of the other areas you look at western mass you look at Connecticut Rhode Island. And it's not the same market that you see in eastern Massachusetts strengthening even there you look at unemployment rates in Rhode Island and Connecticut dep there on the way down the starting to come down. New Hampshire economy is booming relative to some parts of the country. So you look at economic activity. That's going on in its seemingly pretty strong we also got jobless claims data this morning that team in net we boost 250000. And durable goods orders as well. They get that data coming in as well durable goods orders. Slightly below expectations by about point 1% we are looking for excluding transportation growth point 3% we appoint to. Weekly jobless claims pretty much right on the line from where we've been 258000. Compared to 260000. Last week so. Continuing to be right on the line there. The one that I'm starting to well I get excited fours coming up tomorrow now which is the advance GDP report not for third quarter GDP this is a historically. On reliable report it tends to have barely significant revisions just because. It's a lot of data try to get in a short time period but still urged to see where that first number ends up coming in. There are projections. That the projections are wide unity got day JPMorgan I think saying it's going to be 3.3 percent and there's a wildcard in this equation. A lot of our soybeans. Are being purchased by China. And it's. Rumored if that's going to be a major influencing factor on Q3 GDP I didn't know that China was buying up all the the sort of things it's you know the you got to listen to the financial exchange to learn this stuff. He Qualcomm. Acknowledging their purchasing an X peace semiconductors for 39 billion dollars good view of urine and XP stockholder yet an XP if you're not. Familiar with them they are company that is largely due involved in designing automotive chips it's been one of the areas that they really focused on. And this is Qualcomm who historically. Has been very strong in mobile chips they've done an awful lot they've. They've done a lot not so much with the that the processors for mobile phones but they do a lot in terms the connectivity of that working with cell companies in order to build out the infrastructure. For us cellular services Qualcomm effectively. Getting into a new business and I think showing. That look they're making a pretty big bet that the types of chips and XP develops in particular looking at where car self driving cars are potentially going. That's where Qualcomm is moving right now I don't know if they've paid too much here necessarily. But it is something. I bet you know does have I think some questions especially. You know you factor in the debt that an XP has their caring about eight or nine billion dollars worth of debt. You know this is an expensive purchase all they must know something about those trips maybe. And X he must have a chip that Qualcomm feels they have to. You you would hope so just because otherwise this is gonna be a deal that ends up not looking great for Qualcomm Qualcomm by the way they make mistakes that these companies do Qualcomm by the way about a 104 billion dollar company and XP about a 39 billion dollar company by the value this deals the sort. And a building. Nearly of 150 billion dollar behemoth in the chip's base I don't wanna stop. One a mighty rumors again but a funny analog devices. In a local company in New England twenty billion dollar and nineteen billion dollar market cap. I'm thinking to myself what somebody's gonna take us out here you are we next. I don't know they need to you know analyst company it's been able to put together good performance for its investors even without an acquisition. I don't know that necessarily need to go that route if they want it I just a loner it's somebody else wants them. You know to fill the gap is a must that they've got that relationship with the apple it's possible that a lot of people are envious that. You could see someone moving in that direction so it's definitely something you need to watch war. On an obviously analogue as you mentioned it locally based company right and Norwood Massachusetts stop the presses Tesla. Made a profit holy cow I can't believe it. Tesla did indeed put together a profit this is only I believe the second's. Profit that they have had in their history 22 million dollar it has been twelve. Quarters since the last time they turned a profit that was a very small one way back in the day. And this is probably gonna be the last time they turn a profit for the foreseeable future just because of all the expenses they're gonna take on. Due to the ramp up for the model three release late next year but they did turn a profit here. They are projecting to sell 50000 vehicles in the final two quarters this year including the quarter that just reported so they have wrapped up production pretty significantly on their model S and model. Acts at this point we should talk about how they make their profit they really make that the profit. Came from the sale. Of pollution tax credits to other companies yet they pretty much with the it was so Wayne that because they a lot of listeners that we kept talking about and he had to sell pollution tax credits that effectively because Tesla has no emissions on their vehicles. What happens is that all of these other auto makers that are trying to get there fleet. Emissions down to a certain level you know they go out and they say look we can't necessarily do this ourselves we're gonna buy credits from Tesla who as a surplus of them so they actually and a song about a 139. Million dollars worth of these credits. In the quarter here is more than their profit. Exactly revenue was up to 2.3 billion from 936. Million a year earlier of their revenue was up. Over a 100% about a 140%. Actually and they delivered 24821. Vehicles. This quarter the big thing that they are going. To be doing now they are going to embark on a massive capital expenditure program they're going to be spending about a billion dollars this quarter. Another 800 million dollars over the next three quarters after that so does that point lot of really. To ramp up for the model threes. What did how much longer can they sell those tax credits because General Motors is making electric cars Ford is make it you know everybody's making electric cars. Will there always be a market for them to sell those tax credits his. They'll cars are already in my opinion exceedingly expensive. So if they ever lost that tax credit money the way I I've got to believe they have increased the cost of their cars even further. I don't know if there would ever if I don't know enough about that market to be able to project how long that'll last and whether it'll be increased or decreased. But it is a concern if other auto makers start to move more. In the electric vehicle direction. The thing to remember with companies like a GM or Ford sure they still sell so many trucks right that at this point it doesn't make a difference. And I think you probably have a fairly long runway but I'm not familiar enough with the market to go into any detail. You don't beat the advent of electric cars is caught a lot of people by surprise I think many investors speculated that electric cars would go by the wayside because of the low price of gasoline can buy gasoline now for. What 230 gallon to twenty gallon is what you're paying for gasoline. Sort raises the question of the day our poll question of the day has to do with electric cars. Tucker Silva would be. Our poll question today is simply would you consider buying an electric car and you can vote right now at financial change show dot com narrate. Up next we're gonna be joined by Sarah Kent from the Wall Street Journal oil companies are shifting their exploration tactics in the air curbing spending. Talk about what that means for the future price of oil not talking about the price of oil in January. But wouldn't it be nice to be of project with the price of oil will be in January of the year 20/20. That's what we're gonna delve into in our next segment from our insurer match dot com studios. Leader bank does a tremendous amount of mortgage loans as a matter of fact I've used them a couple times to refinance properties in the past. Jake how's the mortgage business these days it's been an extremely busy very. There are a lot of people buying homes. So that's kept the purchase market very very busy and then on top of that race are still at all time lows right so we've a lot of folks who are refinancing their homes either to get a better rate or pull some cash out because of properties appreciate it. That's us and asked how does somebody know whether they should call to refinance. Well you know. Dude there's really 22 ways if they feel that the rate can be improved. Give us a ring Allen and you know thirty year fixed raise her all time lows. If you have anything in those in the 4% range frankly give us the rink and you might be able to do something okay com or if you need to take some cash and of your property wondered for a college tuition for your kids aren't you guys have home equity lines of credit we have home equity lines of credit as well and the cool thing about that is. If you already had a great look raid on your first mortgage and get a home equity line of credit which will leave your first loan as it is allow you access the equity built up in your home makes an awful lot of sense and you've got fifteen year fixed rate mortgages five year adjustable rate more X all types and -- we we have all types of that in addition to that were actually very active Jumbo lenders so. As properties have really created in the markets in Massachusetts. There's been a higher demand for Jumbo loans and we do a lot of that so last year Berry were actually not the number two home purchase minor mass. It uses it for you congratulations. Folks that's digitally from leader bank they can be your mortgage bank call them toll free 8776917900. You can check out all their rates on line at leader bank dot com. Vote your conscience there aren't just vote go to financial exchange O Doug come and tell us the way. The oil industry is going through a tremendous transformation it's shrinking. First of all we've had a lot of people just leave the industry we're joined by Sarah content from the Wall Street Journal to talk about this transformation hi Sarah hurry you. Good morning kind. So how much has worldwide. Oil exploration spending contract did in the last couple years. It's it's fall in love actually at the lowest level globally and 2008. That's. Basically since the financial crisis. Would then it'll be an expiration since then. So what is it that when you look at budgets from companies like BP and Chevron ExxonMobil the big producers. What are they budgeting. Going out five years. And Canada exploration you start the exploration budget. Being cut to the Banda focusing. A lot more Allan. Keep that leverage the prospect episode that they were expecting still patrolling some oil did that nor. Spending money going out and finding game changing the law about to find anymore it's too risky. Sarah I've read reports in the past in the journal where. You know I've seen estimates of a trillion dollars being taken out of exploration budgets and I've heard numbers of 800000. Fewer people working in the exploration. Field what is second due to oil prices in the long term when we looked out and notes hard rub your crystal ball but when you go out five years what are we looking. And that is the eternal question Internet and it's interesting because I think actually. Doling out by being complacent tank you don't want to look at exploration budget he wants delicate operation budgets that. All the companies spending to bring you project that they import export our talent I think spending to bring that online then how. He says it's likely that between me have a problem with supply going for it. And that could well be the price of getting back up to let it black and they went to fourteen about a hundred told about. But flip side of that of course is a bit. Bit. That oil price that has has created a look at. We need for inventiveness and and our company that getting better getting what they do at low prices. And the fairer you've got to balance that you think can take a few and it's difficult to know exactly how things will play out. This consumption is still increasing write it I know it's not growing at 5% but isn't global consumption of oil still growing at one or 2%. It is still grading consumption growth is at this level that graphic that we do need to keep. Put these things. More and more ill. Judy the interesting thing maybe that and gunning for it whether book comes from it certainly does blade. In the US shale plays web prices have gone down significantly. Rather then the narrative. Deep war. Well that the big oil plan could be so good regulate. Because. Prices barren spell in many cases high. Have the every companies become more efficient and the embracing some new technology that's making it easier for them to find oil. Yeah definitely anything that you can't tell you I'm glad that the about what flying around the industry at them Hammond he's. A efficiency technology. All the things that take. Make it. He learned how to fight oil and that is happening it isn't. It is getting cheaper and they arguing that. They are also targeting the EDS ARIAD. At some point is that the areas. That opinion but right now and they have to look again and be expensive. Odd to do options would come and that could be to crunch point. Sarah you referenced in your article that they had a fine in Egypt if they find. An oil patch. How long does it take from the time they found it actually start production from that patch. The Barry a lot depending on on an attachment B and it took me infrastructure. And indeed how possibly make that decision. To bring it on dream but it's getting popped that out for instance that says. Ian would it would take them you know. Eighteen months Petit is bringing it to bring you feel like now that getting it on average. In less than twelve month of the bad that in program. That is that is well Sara thank you very much for your time we appreciate it. That's Eric can't Wall Street Journal giving you a glimpse as to what you can expect from energy prices and the challenge their track is. I I have little doubt in my mind at prices will be higher I wish I knew win there and you make a lot of money he knew when that was in the current. Yet unfortunately be the energy market isn't the the type of market that we typically think of one would think of a market for goods for a couple of reasons the first being that the dominant producer also has the lowest cost there in Saudi Arabia so they can very much dictate. If they want the price to be lower or higher. Beyond that you also of OPEC which influence based on what they wanna do as far as. Capping production and intense Saudi Arabia is the lead member of OPEC. Exactly so until we can get in two. You know inside the heads of the very few number of people who actually control that cartel. You don't know what's gonna. Thank goodness they don't get along. Right imagine if they were cohesive and they work together we'd be paying 200 dollars a barrel for homes that fifty now. Eight we're doing trivia at 47 years ago this week Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The first listener with the correct answer will win it 25 dollar gas card player to do is be number one. As you story about apple in their launching its new TV guide to moral. But why would Netflix not be part of that. Well what Apple's trying to do is they're trying to make it easier to easier for people to find content with Al. People having to go and sort through a number of different apps and so. As you mentioned Netflix is not going to be. Participating. In this program here remains to be seen exactly why expected. Possible Netflix is developing competitor this and they almost want to try to do something similar. But it also might be. That there might be some financial reasons for Netflix not doing this in terms of whether their cost participate in the programmer. You know revenue sharing and things like that there's some things there that are probably likely. Because I look at this is being a detriment to apple. The Netflix is gonna be participating you know I mean who. Netflix. And they have competition that they are the dominant. Streaming platform in the country right that that is. And any other world frankly they have 83 million subscribers 83 million people that are paying them 1012 bucks a month to be part of that service. Apple. Needed to get them on that plot. They did and you know as you mentioned they are the biggest. The biggest fish out there. As far as you know when you talk about streaming so it's it's a major major thing that they need. To try to figure out in the long run I think. But keep in mind that some of these other companies that have been getting more into streaming you'll get a company. Late HBO who's owned by Time Warner and can connect them HBO at their HBO go platform has been seeing a huge uptick in demand for people watching their shows on demand would that would does that cost if he just wanted to HBO go. We've talked to do you know what it's either ten or twelve dollars a month it's somewhere in that are oh yeah or it's so if you just it it wouldn't HBO go they have another platform I think it's HBO now which is the standalone streaming right. I know you get HBO go with an HBO subscription. I guess it takes for now it's HBO now is the one that you can get its streaming only and that's 1499 a month is that a replacement for Netflix. It could mean depending on the type of content that you want is there a lot of people who watched HBO's chosen instead of Netflix is and HBO obviously has a great suite of movies and older legacy content. And if you wanna look at rates if you're seeing stuff with GM wanted to know with the ratings on any seven year adjustable rate mortgage draw and thirty year fixed or fifteen year fixed. Go to the website leader banked a cup. Or if you're like mean you're talking to a human being. Call 8776917. B 900. Megyn Kelly. Holy smokes she's about to get paid did you know she's making fifteen million dollars a year right now. I don't know she was making that much but she is likely go to a command a little bit more in her next negotiation reportedly. Looking for a salary north of twenty million dollars a year she could be a high contract she'd be the highest paid. I would be surprised if she is. I wouldn't be surprised if she is. You know I think obviously. You know she's being in a very prominent role over the course of this election season. And I think there are going to be. A number of different media companies not just Fox News that are potentially bidding on her as this contract expires the rumor is to rumors circulating. One is CNN. Make a lot of sent up and he is like all the sudden they would go to number one to the other is Good Morning America. I don't know if that would be the right fit for her necessary now. It's I don't know easy TV she needs to be on in the evening well and I I think she just wants to be able to do things that are a little bit more politically oriented she seems AG. I think that's where she wants to be back I could be wrong I mean I'm just kind of looking at what I've seen from her. Over the course of this election cycle good morning America's off. You know I just I agree I don't know why they're locked so no I don't know that's where she wants to be necessarily. She certainly probably couldn't do it but I haven't really gotten the sense that that's been. The driving force in her career thus far just a side note here she's going to be a co hosting with Kelly rip the day after the election is not yet. On now what what to call live with killer of Arizona's maybe I'm wrong then maybe maybe that is the direction she wants to go. Their interest and you know lifestyle wise it might be better. It could be yeah. Could be could be a lifestyle decision. The other thing is that she should do is when this election's over she should send thank you note to Donald Trump and Newt Gingrich. Oh yeah. Thought she got hit Donald Trump made her. Pretty without Donald Trump that she's she's she's not in the leveraged position the other thing that she benefited from was Roger Ailes departure. Because that's what gives her the out on her contract and say what bill Riley by the way. Bill Riley can walk measure how much he's gonna get a bill Riley is as strong as Megyn Kelly's ratings are the bills are strong. Yeah you wonder he's he's gonna command quite a premium. When he when he's out and I trade he's he's gonna get an awful lot of money for whatever he does next I mean he were he's a writer I mean knee he's. Easy but he's getting long in the tooth how old is bill that is it'll run is that still a quick check on. Bill Riley CT to Boston bill is 67 he's got Somalia one and he's still got a little time 67. Again he's got another 67 years now they if he just does TV. Right is that because it shows an hour longer. Yeah I think I think he's probably you see guys like that tend to go in to their early to mid seventies I'd say he's probably gotten a five to seven years depending on what one wants one more election. Of of bill wants do one more election necessarily but I think you will. Hey yesterday we talked about this service members that were at the end of the this went so far as they had collection agencies coming after them for bonuses. That they had received inadvertently. And allegedly by mistake. Well ash Carter and the White House have all the sudden decided that maybe it would be very good idea to try to collect that money for the re enlistment bonuses. Yet they have us suspended the the efforts to try to get back to these. Bonuses that were given out to these servicemen. And in some cases yet these are tens of thousands of dollars that the ease up people were paid that they are now being told. They had to give back here and so this is it it's really what should be done I think even though. You know you certainly a lot of these bonuses as they said that you know they didn't mean to give them that much but you don't simply go back to us servicemen. Who. Effectively re enlisted for partly for that. Money while that and and you know the some of them didn't come home I mean eighty dollar it's you you just look if you made a mistake it was understandable they made a mistake and they just had that they have to eat they have to live with you know that's that's the nature of the beast in a situation like this you don't go back to your vets and say. We need that money back that we gave it's just not right to do and while it did take you know month or so to get this squared away. They're doing the right thing didn't happen to the public pressure. It in it to go a lot of public pressure to get this done. Just deep sometimes you have to do the right thing pay. Up next we will be joined by Bob lane from thestreet.com. Let's try to make some money would have we got for stock talk today checkup today we are joined by Bob lying from the street and Bob thank you very much for joining us. I period shot good morning I'm talking a lot. Absolutely we bring good and I know we've got a couple stocks to dig into today let's look first. At Boeing obviously pretty much most of our listeners should be familiar with Boeing. My question for you is this when you're bullish or bearish on. You know like I. Kramer street. Opt in program. Is all market out there somewhere I got out and know that it. Why. Jim Cramer and that'll be an issue on the order of all market Eilat to look any further than that there. Defeat at the whole record breaking out lately I picked up Ellington and or any look eighty. They are tracking what every article look at Lockheed are. She's. Hands down L readers that the US and an eight GE are critical that etiquette noted that group but that that that's been extremely. I know it election coming up and it changeover. Our coming up you'd think that doubt. Investors and middle of a car and I in media allowed to be it. When you look at Boeing where are the major tail winds for them that are helping them right now. Well you know 88 and early strong number. Geithner I eat out that higher. Degree so I'm. You know I IO or anything. Like telling that caught it's going to. Be possibly and went and they talk about that. It potentially. Inflationary winds coming. Two others wise but for the most part and early on. But I irked by the a product. Well are all right Andy Pettitte a bit that this rolling their they're backlog. Borders. Is is very strong book to bill are strong well. I'm I don't see much much problem borrowing it at eight monster. Out there. And a it would and a little bit it. Are struck. What the situation to potentially and of knocking bone down. Well you know day. Now. I. I'm on order. That in your. That would air. Your potential growth and it. Let's turn and look at another company in the defense aviation sectors Northrop Grumman here. This company obviously a little bit smaller than Boeing a lot more than bone quite frankly. Still forty billion dollar company. This one pretty close two way 52 week high right now. Where do you see this one don't. What are you know that there was that there are out here. Now. Or eight. And you know that stock again at 1 o'clock ER. Two. Mark and much earnings in and actually got higher. Well you get yesterday's all right of the they get hit another one out. And eat it there. Growth rate coming in a court order date that. Like all. They've got a lot the ability with orders and support and you know urban spectacle what do you wanna docket all right now. You know it got a mountain and great tactical interest here on the chart on the knee is strong and we've got good strong volume coming in with fire that. National players coming into the. What are you mentioned some of the other companies just in this space in general does seem like a lot of them are holding up pretty well when you look at a rate the honor general dynamics. What are great young and I had a strong movement a little bit but you know look at the companies like Martin Marietta. A report area of material that it and land symbol. You know had to perform nearly is well the only other one. You know I. More well Reagan they just are a little bit over here. The actors very strong. But I hit it to be very selective on what each is. Go look the I'd go to the ones where the money I mean you. She does she is widely the crowd and an anabolic you have a lot. Very good Bob thanks for joining us. You do Bob is Bob Lang from the street the stickers on those two companies Boeing has ticker BAA. Northrop Grumman has that ticker and old seat. Wonder if there how involved they are in drone technology because that I in in my opinion. I I don't think you're gonna have fighter jets. Going out. I don't know it matter how far out where we're getting bit. You know fighter jets and bombers and I don't know what their futures I think a lot of the bonds are gonna be delivered by submarines or drones. Well I I know that if you look at the defense budget the single biggest line item in it. For the next several years is still beyond. The new joint strike fighters are still seeing an awful lot being put in two. Manned fighters right now. Obviously makes sense though they psychologically when you think about it. With what they're doing with drones do it wouldn't eventually does in the money gets pushed over there except he can't dogfight withdrawn. Bar drones against their drugs and it's you can't dogfight with drones now you but how much stock biting is done to meanwhile BC China development fifth generation fighters like they are yet you know you kind of need to have your yet to keep up now. Maybe if it's instinct CME that's a and an industry that's so heavily regulated almost reminds you utility industry in that they're required to make a profit the required stay in business. They get these military contracts those are and their fat and indeed there's a lot of money to be made they're not just that you talk about the joint strike fighter program and you've got a trillion dollar project that still doesn't quite work. Could end up gifting 100000. Dollars of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Is that possibly true. Not only is it possibly true I think it's fun. It's a fact I mean an end basically that the reason that is folks as. Because you have a million dollar exemption here in Massachusetts. And that means that I can leave a million to someone other than a spouse and my spouse can leave a million to someone other spouse and there's no tax. But when you have that simple will in place that leaves everything to my spouse when I die picture and you think you don't have anything else to do well. I die I pay no taxes my wife pays no taxes but my wife now has. Two million dollars for example right so she's got everything that we had together. While when she guises and two million bigger than one million. Her exemption as one million. My exemption is lost is wasted so now that two million dollars is gonna be taxed and in Massachusetts they tax you on the whole ball. Not just the amount over. And the tax on the whole boat and two million dollars in Massachusetts is. A hundred brands such a voluntary tax like you say you're making a gift to the commonwealth you put together that trust whether they be revoke double fault or irrevocable if you wanna add nursing home protection at the same time. These trusts will shell terror. The million dollars purse by house thereby eliminating. Stay informed and today about economic and market trends plus breaking business news. And now the initial exchange we've Barry Armstrong and she so. We had a substantial amount of volatility. In equity markets yesterday however today a whole different ballgame I her body very Armstrong and chuck is not a with you here. Honey Thursday. Where the market's been open for an hour and a half chuck and and it hasn't been much about it yeah market has been open. On allies you mentioned for a little over an hour and a half and the Dow is up or down rather a whopping six points less than a twentieth of a percent. S&P is down four NASDAQ is down seventeen. Pretty much flat with uninteresting actually is to go to the bond market. And what we've seen from the US ten year treasury. Sold off today a little bit more action at the one point 86% now on the US ten year treasury which I'm gonna go have to check on this. An NC when the last time. We saw the ten year treasury decides it's been a while. I was either in January or fourth quarter of 2015. Let me take a quick look here because rates are high in Q4. And it era played 218 to Tony in Q4. And then they declined as it members need is seen as the market opened in January of sixteen that started to decline again was down so every day tomorrow. No we have not seen rates this high this year. And going back to the end of last year the highest that I he was one point 81%. As a closed. And you gotta go back like two years now I mean I just went back all the way through all of the data from fifteen. I thought we had a ten years too late teens Austria now. No no last year. So I'm sorry hold on I was just looking at the seven year. My apologies to the ten year and I think you'll find if you. If you look at the tenure I think you're gonna find news you need to know you are correct you are correct I was looking at the seven year on both of these so actually we did see it was back in the early part of this is the last time we were at this level. Was. February 5 so it's still been about eight months since we last saw patient and he treasury they they should be 22 and a you know I don't know about two and a half. At least two and two and a quarter amino Woodward to were we to a record last year but that the oil raid that you think you're gonna get to the quarters is if you think rates averaged out over the next ten years it and I don't. Nor do you think wow that's a statement I think rates averaged one and three quarters to 2% for the next ten years wow. Well they better buy stocks. At chipotle is fixing one of its customers top complaints has an effect I pulled the story. Because the only complaint I have about chipotle. Is the length of time it takes to get my food. And and I don't like in men and if they use faster road by more in your promise that you can't get in off I can't get a fast enough. I don't like lines and the new and I I'm not a patient man and my collects lines well you know well Tripoli shoppers easier to wait in line for twenty ministry food the trying to fix that. I've been here in this for awhile though here's what I want it to only when they can give me this one B of the go to my phone. Punch it in my phone. And then walk outside my door and drone will come down and drop it in hot two ones though that's going to be a little while off too well. What if I'm willing to drive to the store. So they are improving the time and they have improved their mobile out. In the starting to roll out to a wider number of stores right now the lag time right now is typically between twenty and thirty minutes. Two law. Ridiculous now. Note that this is the lag times he placed an order any phone in takes you twenty to thirty minutes to go get to act to talk to anybody wanna go I don't know you know that's on sang at the 2030 minutes is ridiculous for placement follow her. Because Starbucks sixty minutes that Starbucks coffee if that yeah but he. If the regulator breakfast sandwich something breaks me be five minutes eight minutes if that's already pre made. Pair hollow is a critical error. There's about twenty minutes is it via yet but it with that the problem with the pulling one track is they haven't got that whole thing loaded seeking just walk into the store grab bag. No Lizzy you're still talking a cashier stuffed plea tornado or bill. It's you know people want a special line people want the Starbucks I ended the same because I'm not a Starbucks customer but that's what people want Starbucks up the panera that's what that's what they need to get to. There's no doubt about it. They're getting their incrementally and they're making steps in the right direction they're not there yet. Now they guy here's something that many view have voiced concern about as a relates to autonomous cars. There is it now away hijacked nearly any drone. Need plate. Using. This technology and I'm not sure I got to mean it chorus is the name. Of the technology at least that's what they're calling it. But what they've done effectively track is they develop these tech guys and develop the mechanism. Where they can take over my drone so that burrito that's being delivered by chipotle bio it world could be hijacked by. Decker yeah I'm gonna buy one of these hijack an Rio it's some hum I'm highly interest in this actually but I look at this and say this is have a and they don't how to stop this they occasionally do it's just yet it it makes it would be significantly more expensive. And the issue is not to be a commercial drones are not gonna run into this because you'll generally have measures in place to prevent that is because you need greater security and so forth but for personal drones book that pretty much operating system we have regular radio frequencies. And there's not a whole lot of protection encryption that really protect those frequencies in terms of the signal going back and forth so so somebody can take over a girl yeah that pretty much jam your signal and replace it with another one and you've actually you know you've seen some cases of this. And you know it's it's not a problem that you can solve on a fifty dollar drone or a hundred dollar drone just because the the solutions they give or take the overall drove costs could be take over military drone. Like the ones they're using in the middle what this basic technology there have been some cases I believe there was one. It was either in northern or rocker and cereal last year where there was a report that a drone was hijacked I believe by Iranian forces. And they landed it actually but that is a far more complicated. If he sees you can't just go by twenty dollar piece of equipment and do that but obviously those types drones have issues too. All right. Be careful about your drones now you guys are young healthy lads and you probably. You know for a long time I never went to doctor DP who has attended to a doctor pepper. Probably like six months ago maybe I cola once a year now you do go from one physical. Check up. You know if you're young might have told me not come back for three years some finally go back enough February's three years while the ice until I was thirty had enough to come so I thought well look let me ask if you guys who are working. And you were independent contractors let's say you're just a freelance for you had your own company right. And they said Tia. You can either buy health insurance and it'll cost you four grand a year or you can pay tax penalty of 700 bucks which wounded. A by the insurance you would buy you paid for granted his stuff happens I'm. Again again I now I don't as last time he had spent any money on health care I'd have my appendix taken out and if I didn't have insurance I want I was happy that that was four years ago and if I didn't have insurance would have had to pay for that. In fact in this is. Here's how much of a mess our insurance system is those so like I finally get the itemized bill after I have my appendix taken and it starts off millions of being like. We've been like 16100 dollars or something. Two I have this little guy taken out. So what ended up happening was that I was built like you know it looked like I'd pay like ninety dollars a coping with yourself. The problem located you know for a great doctors at new wells and get my appendix out OK that's well worth it. Couple months later kind of getting a check back for 200 dollars they paid me a 110 dollars to get my appendix taken. I have no idea how or why this happened but I made money they probably sold that appendix someone else. You know and I don't even know about so what do Mexico so you would see you would pay it pay for the insurance that I made money on my last surcharges for granted your good deal but it since then haven't used yet been that back. I know I've I've been back for like some minor thing like you know wrist injury and stuff like that but nothing major Tucker. You put it suffered during camp out probably go with the insurance as well just because you never know in like like I play soccer two or three times a week like if I did an ACL and didn't have insurance on a Matta walked and so for for me like I do some things that are kinda high risk. I would prefer to have coverage I would bring this up because millions of Americans stand screw it I'll take the risk I'm not gonna pay the four. Yeah there's there's an awful lot of people that are not not an 8700 bucks and in this is part of the reason why you're seeing insurance prices on the obamacare exchange going up so much is all those healthy people are just saying. You know what the penalty is less than what I'm gonna pay for insurance why why would I do that and it's because the penalties are high enough to entice those healthy healthy people to go into the system. And he used to work at the department of Social Security now he's an independent consultant but he's an expert on the topic of Social Security. We're gonna grow with some tough questions I don't Kirk. It's very good morning doing great just got back from the dentist known overcame some not tripped over my time I'm doing well. All right how often. Should people check their Social Security statements I just went on this morning in its actually not as hard as it used to be to go on the government website took me maybe five minutes. Torque so people need to remember back. Starting 1999 the Social Security Administration. Houston mail out a paper Social Security statement on an annual basis. To anyone who was 25 years of age or older who would ever paid in the program that was not yet collecting benefits. They sent out about a 175. Million papered document a year and you could count on getting that on an annual basis. It was important to review. Your. Earnings record because as we've talked about on the show what you eventually collect is directly related to what you currently in which you paid and Social Security tax. Well Social Security recognize how. Expensive ones to mail those paper documents that everyone and it into orbit the ball well of course the past few years they've changed the way they distribute statement. And it's important for listeners to know what the current status is first and foremost Social Security no longer mail the paper statement. To everyone on an annual basis. But what they've done is put in place. System you would talked about it. Setting up your own Social Security a how do that by going to. Www. Social Security dot gov slash my account. Thanks but at a fifteen minutes or so what you've got that account and place. One of the by products is you can then download the Social Security statement yourself anytime you want you don't need to wait. But that old mailing schedule but three months before you broke right so encouraged listeners to do that if they haven't done an already terrific product. Get that statement before retirement and then down the road watcher retired. By having your account in place be able to do and number of things yourself online changer at drought or deposit different things like that. But little security has also decided to resume mailing paper statement but a limited basis. So what they say is if you are under the age of sixty. Have a set up an account yet they'll be illegal paper statement but only once every five years. If your six year old or haven't had a account they will. Brazil mailing that paper statement do you want an annual basis about remote. Before you were but how want to begin on in the mail and say oh what is that appear count and then be Cold War. What about mistakes that might be made would if you had an employer. They didn't make the contributions to Social Security is the required to by law. Sure well a couple of things first and foremost what Social Security will do is. They're not in the chasing down taxpayer compliance issues that's up to the IRS. Social Security though will give you credit. Earnings that you had assuming the employer had. Whit held a payroll tax yourself whether they sent it on the treasury or not that's not for Social Security gone down but if you provide proof. In perm form of a W two forms showing what your record show is what your earnings had been Social Security will give you credit. For those earnings. Even if the employer had necessarily ever folded the money to the treasury. Want to hold the employee harmless. And not blame them for the for the crimes or malfeasance as of of the employer they had. But it's really important. To review that Social Security statement on a regular basis to make sure that that it that you are getting proper credit. Pretty earnings that Japan. And in the old days ago when mailed you an annual basis it was very easy it would show up in your mailbox now it takes a little more effort. Again. That up that account you can and download whatever you need to. Under the ages sixty no account once every five years in the mail but I think get a probably wanted to set up that account could you wanna be able to catch those errors that. Have occurred now. Social Security will basically. Correct and ever. In the aisle away. Posting meaning you were an employee. Basically at our back in the past as the error occurred as long as you have proof. Well what the correct amount of earnings war and that's. Another reason why it's important to stay on top of that because it's far more likely that. If an error occurred you'd still have UW to form from a year ago or two years ago. Something that occurred. Twenty years ago while Social Security will correct it's still if you show them what the correct amount of earnings were likelihood that you still have to W two around is that is is less likely. Right Kurt if you you say your 6567. Years old and you've been working since your 22. You might have. 4045. Years of substantial. Earnings in the Social Security how's your benefit calculated if you've been working for 45 years. You're ready needs to understand the Social Security calculate. Retirement benefit. Based on an average of the persons highest. 35 years of work under the system. Now closed missed playing counter about talking to folks is to be folks mistakenly they get your height three. Or your last five. Like some other pension system that are placed on it sure I guess 35 years or work that are averaged to calculate your benefit now. Social Security does go. And in relation but just all of your prior year earnings about what they Eric today's dollars. So that did an averaging apples and apples and oranges to oranges but it is your highest. 35 years or worked there. But not necessarily your first thirty. Not necessarily your last. 35. Not necessarily 35 consecutive years either journal hi yes 35 years to work and people in retirement. Beat understand that again it's your highest 35. Regardless of when they occur so even if you considered yourself Brit tiger. You returned to work pay into the Social Security program and a the earnings that you have happened to be higher than the lowest of the 35 years the Social Security had been using. What great news news is you file your tax return Social Security doesn't match. And they're gonna re compute your benefit giving you credit for that higher year verdicts. The ability to increase your benefit traditional work back continues forever. We talked in the past very that if you differ. From your full retirement age. Benefit grows by two thirds percent per month 8% per year mortgage you don't collect but not count states that the but no matter how old war you're working paying into the system. There's always the possibility that your benefits gonna go out. Or did variable Kurt thank you very much for your time we appreciate it I heard you all right. That's Kurds are now ski firms are now ski consulting talking to us about Social Security one thing to remember. If you find a mistake on your Social Security you have three years in three months and fifteen days. Following the year of the mistake to correct it if you don't corrected within that time frame truck you work at a lot. Analysts that limitations has expired and you're stuck with what you got them and remember you're gonna get those printed statements. Let's see when you're 25303540455055. And sixty. And then what you've turned sixty. You'll receive a printed statement once per year I went online this morning and I went through the exercise it's actually really helpful because. Would it tells you is how much you get like I I was told. How much might benefit would be if I continued to work full time until age seventy. My full retirement age 66 in ten months of gives you your benefit then but it also gives your benefit if it says okay if you want collector early yup it's 62. How much you allowed to receive. We'll tell you I got my first my first paper one this year because I finally qualified with all my quarters yes let me tell you that was exciting know that I can retire now and again that in under 62 o'clock. He got a made I can't wait you've got to make he wouldn't come back are we talking about snapped Chet. There's something fishy going on here and I don't you know I I've I don't wanna call it out yet but. Snapped chat will be our next topic from our insurer match dot com studios. I don't understand some of these technology IPOs and I don't even understand what snap Chad is fully tell him. Tucker's the disappear okay if pictures that disappear and I know if he'd gotten themselves in trouble that. Think of it as the opposite of a Polaroid. A Polaroid you had taken it would gradually appear via an NB there forever right snapped at you take a picture you showed someone. And then it's gone and you can text it to somebody. Notes on them. But that's what citizens take a turn you open and it disappears like ten seconds after and it's gone but I thought people sent these pictures to other people. They do for ten seconds. Okay and then you can't see it again must press a button that lets you see it again but it also lets the other person know within that you've seen it twice and then you can't see or you can upload a picture or various pictures to your story which lasts for about 24 hours is that does that count yep they're called in cedar called snaps. So I'm trying to understand this them and trying to be usually vote school. But the the company supposedly valued. At 25. To 35 billion dollars. And so then I said OK well they're they're valued at 25 to 35 billion dollars that's with a B folks right that's bigger that's the same size. Well that's bigger than analog devices brigade is analog devices we decide who's worth nineteen billions better than a lot of companies we've talked about it so. The IPOs gonna occur in people gonna apply only company that makes pictures that disappeared. And they have a billion dollars in revenue. Right the projected to have a billion dollars there you have it billion dollar no they don't even have a billion they're gonna have about 600 million dollars in revenues so help please and missed explained to. Which part. How it's worth 2535. Billion dollars and make it does it doesn't compute nine no. I know I'm old school no I'm OK with it doesn't make sense to me either. Well I'm gonna I'm gonna tell you a cautionary tale of tech stocks are okay that would back to win Twitter IPO which Twitter IPO back Ian. October I'm sorry November 2013 to three years ago Twitter IPO. It is that found some of the biggest tech stocks that IPO around the same time or a little bit before. And saying let's let's take a look at some of these big names have performed. Since that right okay. FaceBook obviously everyone everyone knows about it a lot of money on FaceBook FaceBook since that time is the date what are IPO is up 173%. Okay have you bought FaceBook then you've done an absolutely outstanding. Let's look at some of these other great companies that are out there. Twitter if you bought on its IPO day you're down 57%. What do you do. Yelp if you bought on that same date back in November on November 15 to 2013 if you bought Yelp then you're down 48%. If you bought rocket fuel which most people don't even remember but it was the hottest ad company. Four mobile ad tech it was supposed to revolutionize with artificial intelligence and it's down 93%. Since that time. That reminds me of like the dotcom bubble which you guys are too young do with I'm not even done group bond the company added some outside the audio we're gonna make billions of dollars on coupons which no one has ever done before or after because you can't do it. Group on down 56%. Since then. Why are high which is one of the biggest mobile security companies that will get all excited when they came out and scenario we're gonna revolutionize security and we're gonna do all the cyber security stuff they're down 69%. And like. This is why you don't invest in IPOs because for every FaceBook that you have that does well there are 678910. That complete. We face plant. I'm done. There's a robot it's called the night scope T five. And it's an autonomous security robot already being deployed in malls sports stadiums. In corporate campuses this is the future books of law enforcement. Like this as long as it's not armed. Well as long as it's not a law that's what I think it doubts that I think for you to do it combines. We've geezer technology so the robot is basically going to be a big. It's looking for trouble right and then they'll be cop who's sitting in a boot securely tucked away in he'll have control of the rule. It comes out and eases the bad. It might work like George Orwell would be late this by your side this this is the future of law enforcement. Picture. Oh definitely it where it is a lot of crime occur get a straight ghetto within like it. This this is the future of law enforcement resident had cops shot rate you're gonna have road to patrolling dangerous neighborhoods takes away. Any incentive. To actually. Try to defuse situations. Because you have no risk to yourself right right you bring in the drone tase him and things. They're done I don't like this one bit awed I think sounds like sky net is it this is the first guy got. It didn't work. Did you ever see any of the terminator movies are turned on us all think this is why you don't think if you've built the robots. And you build them too well and eventually they get a realize that you're the problem I'm telling you this is our future I don't like it the future of law enforcement is going to be. Robots. Drones. And and human beings operating these robots in girls I don't like it don't give weapons looking for that he's given scanners you can give me you know these are guys and they say they've got you know thermal imaging unit infra red and stuff like that. I love the idea of having robots that do that. So I don't camera but with guns camera technology like this turns people into good Christians you know because all the sudden they realize the issue that robot walking around the knot in a mug that little lady that I can sell drugs is it gonna are we gonna go kick the robot. It up I can't count out outs out of the error error robot will be on the pick them back you know that the justice and a failure. That will do not look at the nutritional information but it. Galaxy note seven recall sinks Samsung profits did it ever. I mean Samsung. And this is I was amazed if you were looked at how diversified Samsung is as a corporation. Well what the the Korean companies they're set up in that fashion so they specialize in one area that is huge conglomerates that I forget the name of them they make chips. They do everything the what it. It's the same as Europe to the shipping company engine that went out of the yeah yeah so that's another one of these multi yeah business companies where effort they've especially important is it's pretty much how a lot of companies in Korea are structured where they're very diversified. But yes Samsung the thing with them they've never really made money on their phones to begin when the they've pretty much broken even. In this case they had a pretty. Pretty disastrous negative impact here due to this their mobile operating profit plunged 96%. From a year earlier why don't they make profit on their phones and Apple's making 38% per. Because apple has better deals with their suppliers noted. How old are good like it all kidding aside it's aside from the fact that Samsung phones will explode your pants. The big they're pretty difficult. By all counts and it's only one of the phones that did that you know the odds of yeah the few times but the regular Samsung phone the Samsung galaxy not to know the big big big regular galaxy poll argued polls don't look great phone the problem is no one's buying him anymore because everyone thinks that all their phones explode. They don't all exploded just the galaxy note which you can't buy anymore so. Samsung did have a very tough quarter overall the net profit down about 17% of down about four billion dollars in the quarter here. And there's the this is their brand is gonna be damaged for years because it is. While I don't know I believe people have short memories known and others is because they're coming out with a new phone number eight this is nothing easy it's gonna sell. No. Pat and until it has a long track record and by that point you've already moved on to what's now. You know could be killed he two's going to be this pixel phone I keep hearing I don't know you're here but I think Google's impeccable because I heard school is killing it with this pixel full. But many people are saying. Bet they prefer it over the iPhone not because it's so much a better form but because it works better in the global environment. Particularly realtors are real estate professionals. They love it because he can use all your Google docs in their yup they can access the purchase and sale agreements and their listing agreement. Apparently it is the cats me now. As it relates to Smartphones and interfacing with Google and I think he came out of the exact right time their pick a political lot of disaffected Samsung users that are saying look. Yet probably have more the other way around we're working together we're both tactical counsel on this in fact our firm is lead counsel on this issue but I get doctor clerical error unfortunately. Is suffering from stage four metastatic GAAP prostate cancer and he you know he bought to steal he comforted in the fact that he got all end of life options available to him. In case is that suffering at some point becomes. Unbearable and inhumane and so medical aid in dying has one of those options that. Is available at a number of states put on then that a number of states on the West Coast and doctor quick blurb reflected. Didn't know would be comforted by eight that knowledge that you can avail himself of that step procedure that. Come to the point where is suffering is unbearable and he's very close to come to dying anyway it's from the prostate can that are. And what is the status of this lawsuit at this point John. Don't we just filed this week on Monday and so we're very early we don't even have a scheduling conference date yet with the court to wouldn't know what the scheduled gonna look like the court will. In due course. Get as schedule and call the party and at some point that has happened yet. And can't what happened in May and Montana tells about back case. Will I would not counsel of record in that case but in Montana. Be the case went up to this Supreme Court who ultimately rule bad. Eight dying not to be legal and I ought to be as sort of an exception are carved out from any. And yet criminal. Statute or what case law on the books at that stage that would have that interfered with the position the ability to helpful. Patience and prescribes. Four patients that medically dying. Sounds like most Massachusetts residents 71%. Are in favor of support. And they support medical aid in dying so yeah make the population wants this. Eight exactly and it was very similar on the West Coast we we Campbell bad. Lawsuit in California last year and the statistics are what we're finding out similar. In a lot different regions in the country that an eight track tactical crossed religious and political boundaries we find that. You know high proportion have them. Christians. And Catholics and Republicans. And you know whatever group if you look at are in favor of this because it truly medical options right people don't want. Did did they know no one wants to basic terrible. Terminal domestic and they especially don't want to base wine it's gonna involve a lot of pain a lot of pain and suffering. And if they are gonna base that they wanna have options available live and have all option that the medical profession. Can provide for them medical aid in dying has one of those options that but I think you're you're gonna if she did. Are bad medical technology in this country in the world has progressed the point where we're. Keeping people alive too much older ages you're seeing a lot more. Can't Serb beat the ultimate cause that they asked. The whereas 5000 years ago. You know people. How much earlier right so now we're we're we're dealing with this. More frequently in our society and if people don't wanna be told that they how. That remain alive first few extra days or weeks when they're just going to be in a terrible suffering stay. In two candidates available federally why is it on a state by state basis in the United States. All the states have different laws here in the United States and so. What we're seeing is done mostly by legislative reform. Aid in dying is becoming legal in states with in the United States at Montana was the exception to that or is actually in litigation in California was done legislative reform. That occurred just last year and went into law on you just in June of this year. You have to have a referendum or something like that on the issue an order to get it passed into law. No it wasn't a referendum that would it was day it was a procedure that went through the state legislature though there is Janet in California. At a meeting on that there was a meaty. That would convened and ultimately yet the full legislature. I adopted recommended that law and Governor Brown signed it in the ball on late last year became effective on I believe it was June and ninth of this year. John thanks very much for your time we appreciate your efforts on this very important topic this John chapels attorney at law involved in that. End of life care advocacy lawsuit.
