This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and sharks are. You're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day you simply your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck. So. Job it all comes down to jobs that give a lot of job openings what it does is it creates pressure on employers to pay a higher wage why. Well you know if you can walk out your job and go down the hall go to zoos company next door and make. I don't know an extra five dollars an hour you're probably gonna do it. Job opening in labor true turnover survey came out at 10 AM eastern time today. Nobody talks about it won't be on the 6 PM news you won't hear again any time today but we talked about it because it's important I everybody's Berrian chuck and I don't know why. Jolt report command such little respect. I think it might just be too complicated for all people to understand. Good point I think there are a lot of people who just it's it's not something where you can just give one easy number right understand it's not like. Those types reports there's a lot more than it while we're digging that you have to do in there and it's actually interest in report that we got today. The number of job openings actually declined by almost 400000. From July. That's a lot to big shift and raises some questions for me as to whether this number is being skewed in any way to is is when you see a shift that big yeah. It raise your intent well. Now August would not include you know you're big hiring servers that occurs in I guess what October November lot of hiring gets done. Doesn't include that this is this seasonally adjust. That data anyways but. What you saw in terms of the areas that saw the most that the biggest contraction in job openings about 40000 lesson construction actually. Which was a little bit surprising to me. Not surprising about 40000 less in manufacturing. Other places that you saw a decline. We talked about transportation previously having having difficulty hiring. Yeah exercise decline in the number of transportation job openings which. If it doesn't quite compute with what we've seen in what we've heard from a lot of people the biggest area though in this really is the biggest area of the economy. Professional business services saw a decline of about 200 in 20000 job openings what would you attribute that no idea you know that's it as an everybody's going to be struggling. Part of me almost wonders if this is just due to win Labor Day fell this year okay. In that Labor Day oftentimes will end up in August and this year was in September and I just wonder that pushed back win job openings will be posted because they don't post until after Labor Day you know units and I have no idea. Well and it doesn't matter it's a one month aberration but it fits the trend is bad and I got a report from Warren most solar. This morning and lose when I looked at that he was talking about the labor conditions index yet this is something. The the federal labor market conditions index he never heard of this before and don't feel bad you have that. The labor conditions index came in at 2.2. For the month of September extending. Its soft trend this cycle so. You look at that and you you try to add things up. It it could you know the good data chuck would indicate that the job market start to week. It it doesn't and and I think what's interesting here is just that you are not seeing you may see the same number of job openings as a year ago but the problem is that means that the pace moon is declining because you have more people in the workforce but only the same number of job openings are about labor participation as many jobs so. It's eight you know the data overall to me suggests what distill a lot of people won't work there's still a lot of employers that have openings. But EE ticket these people to match up with a large geographic skills whatever they're just not matching up and as a result. I'm still overwhelmed by that they'll the access that we had yesterday for the 2554. Year old man yeah now back. You know AD you have incidents were guys can't work but 23 I just wanna remind everybody. The there are three times as many men between the ages of 25 and 54 is there were back in the 1960s. They're just not working. That are there are staying hole. Refusing to work. Yeah I mean look it there are more people that are not working in that group as we said yes is more more men aged point five to 54 to Dayton. That are not working because of illness or disability. Then there we're not working it all back in the sixties now some. So keep my some of this is due to just demographic trends how things have shifted and that there there's an awful lot there that's you know a little bit concerned. I think it was I'm still I was troubled but that's for real they yesterday another story that we should jump in twos the price of crude oil. If for no apparent reason crude oil is down about one and a half percent to fifty dollars a barrel big issue here with crude it it's not. From gosh it was 39 dollars a barrel back in August early September. In the end it is rallied all the way up to 5152. Dollars a barrel it's almost doubling its price to think about that. Oil has almost doubled its price since the bottom in February of 2016. Now it's pulling back in you know the big issue is all of these countries that are saying okay we're gonna get together we're gonna collude and caught talk up the price of oil. They're all saying or not gonna cut production. And they're in no way they're gonna get around they're not gonna get that sixty door handle that they are looking for now without production cuts and nobody Russia just came out this morning and said. Well you know we want sixty dollars a barrel we're not willing to cut our production. I do find it amazing that this all boils down it's it it's almost you know just Tenet chest thumping at this point you know that there's no reason why they can't. What they wouldn't get together. And do something that would benefit every single one I'm glad they don't I'm glad there you need both the near their self centered maybe change and shortsighted. I mean they're just so darn short side. That they just don't understand what they're doing because all they have to do is say look if we all take a 3% caught. We're not talking about a lot of the year we're 40% corporate talking about 83%. Hot like this is basic supply and demand here. And they can't figure it out it's like they've never taken any concourse is it's because they dislike for us to steer out take thing. Hate us some thoughts about the presidential debates mean there's been two debates so what are we had 200 and EB minutes. Of debate talk and you know what I ate it occurred to me truck there has not been one discussion not one discussion. Regarding Social Security which is scheduled. To run out of money. To pay its full benefits in the year 203334. Depending on who you believe right. It TV if you're retired now and if you plan to be alive in 2033 chipped in on the money to pay. Now there there there simply is not in what happened is that benefits we'll have to be reduced by about 25% of people that are collecting at that point in order to be able to make ends meet on an annual basis. I can understand why. That the politicians I understand why Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump the wanna talk about it. Because it is the proverbial third rail rates if you say you're gonna cut benefits people won't vote for DC got a raise taxes they won't go it's the third rail. But I think it's incumbent upon. The moderate yours to bring this topic up. BAA RP screamed bloody murder over this eight week they want the topic brought up I want it if if you're over the age fifty. I am 57 years old under the age of 51 brought up you guys are anything anyway so I wouldn't I wanna brought up. Quote that if you're if you're 57 years older if you're fifty years old. Rate your still gonna be alive in your 2033 here eighty years old due process I don't care upright be dead and right but if you're if you're fifty years old sixty years old you're saying yourself hold on. Armstrong has said that Social Security's gonna run out of money in 2033. What what does the what does my congressman. Would lose his position on this what does my senator you know how does how does Kelly Ayotte feel about fixing so I wanna know. On and the problem is that if if if we continue to on the current path where people to say look we're just gonna punt and deal with it later. Eventually that decision is made for you because the money just isn't there so. Choosing not to deal with the today doesn't mean that everything just stays as it is because it won't we know what's going to happen if nothing is done. And there's we've talked about so who do you blame the moderator or do you blame the politicians. I put the moderates for not sticking you know politicians' feet to the fire on this because this is I think one of the the biggest issues that will be facing us in the next twenty to thirty years not a Social Security but Medicare no we we haven't even touched on on Medicare and worship you know and and so both of those programs need to be dealt with because what they are doing right now simply is not sustainable in the long run but look. No politician has stepped up and said look here here's how we're going to deal out of this because no. If I look at the moderator like why didn't they bring this up and you've had two debates and it's a pressing issue. For tens of millions of Americans rate they're concerned about this yet they numbering and that this is something that literally will affect how you are able to feed your household if you retired in less than twenty years from now we have enough money to pay 74% of your current benefit. Pay up next we're going to be joined by a group called the Sox to talk about natural gas prices they're up and they're going higher potentially. We also wanna ask you poll question. If at the end of the year let's say get three weeks vacation and you get five personal days and you average or average earnings of 300 dollars a day. Would you like at the end of the year TEE could carry forward. Or would you rather be of the sell those days back to your employer and say to your employer Al take 300 bucks today so I emote five days that you will be 15100 bucks. Would you like that arrangement you can answer our poll question. By going to the financial exchange showed dot com. You'll what's exact wording of the poll question dasher the question is should just would you like to sell your vacation time back to your employer yes yes I would. That was an option I would love to do that I think that it it's a way to make extra money. Hey natural gas prices will be our next topic from our insurer matched dot com studios. Leader bank does a tremendous amount of mortgage loans as a matter of fact I've used them a couple times to refinance properties in the past. Jake how's the mortgage business these days it's been an extremely busy very. There are a lot of people buying homes. So that's kept the purchase market very very busy in and on top of that race are still at all time lows right so we've a lot of folks who are refinancing their homes either to get a better rate or pull some cash out because of properties appreciate it. That's I was gonna ask you how does somebody know whether they should call to refinance. Well you know. Dude there's really 22 ways if they feel that the rate can be improved. Give us serene town and you know thirty year fixed raise her all time lows. If you have anything in those in the 4% range frankly give us a ring because we might be able to do something K okay I'm or if you need to take some cash and of your property -- for college tuition for your kids are you guys have home equity lines of credit we have home equity lines of credit as well and the cool thing about that is. If you already had a great look raid on your first mortgage and get a home equity line of credit which will leave your first loan as it is and allow you access the equity built up in your home makes an awful lot of sense and you've got fifteen year fixed rate mortgages five year adjustable rate Mort all types inflame we we have all types of that in addition to that were actually very active Jumbo lenders so. As properties have really appreciated in the markets in Massachusetts. There's been a higher demand for Jumbo loans and we do a lot of that so last year Berry were actually not the number two home purchase laundromat. Security security ink member in. It's our daily poll question had financial exchange showed Danica. Vote your conscience there aren't just vote go to financial exchange of god come and test the way. We'll look out. Natural gas prices are on the rise and could affect your home heating bills this winter we're joined by girl pol goes on from. Bloomberg to talk about natural gas I do younger Paul. Iowa very good so how are low oil prices impacting the cost of natural gas. Actually in the USS like every season and in between automatic facets of the things quit or an address is ready for LNG exports which. But nobody explained I'm trying to. Right but what percentage of our natural gas is coming as a byproduct of drilling rigs for oil. I can be much like 2225%. Change we haven't really seen a huge drop off. You know in the Haskell. A little more and McEnroe these I need access. It hasn't natural gas gone up quite a bit in price I thought it was up 30% this year. Yet man has so we can about sleeping Kane and when to put the kids you know since when it's finished. And adamant today is just huge historic decreasing quite choppy. I for the summer. That's what you been driven by which. Comical too not what got him and put problems and that kind of preached kind of tricky averaged pulled storage. Put that time India and the treaty driven. Increase natural desperate. It would percentage of our homes US homes are heated with natural gas. That is huge difference across the states on average it's about fixed it and the largest Somali in the party in the midst the midwest where you go about sixty. Haven't household the things that Kaka. In the north if you put it got to the 50% like 5560%. In the northeast we keep hearing about it. Problems with pipelines the fact that there aren't enough pipelines and that's why we pay more for electricity. And more for our natural gas is that a problem that's national or is it really related strictly to the northeast. It took yet the very localized problem. Like it if it's since dynamic they cute talking in New Hampshire you've got a public private placement he caught. You know I might depend higher electricity crisis because you haven't got. Electricity lines from Quebec could only independent and I got clients. To bring it like cheap and Patrick from the state but you know it looks into possible penalties took a wrong like steal cooking Turkey Pennsylvania event. You don't really conceded that she took it certainly looks like Obama. So tight in just little piece it's very specific states with in the northeast. So when you look back like last winter was pretty mild relative to the last three but if we go back to the winters of thirteen and fourteen. They were darn cold with what could happen to the price of natural gas and what could happen to the price of electricity. If we get. You know an abnormally cold winter. My grin emerged that position in terms of production so. Beebe would definitely spike that's. Without a doubt but I think it's gonna control this. If there is a cute twin engine unit that have been. Don't put a stake could be an appeal would trade can. We would you spike can I didn't think we can make a practicing perspective practical yes it is because production. Emmett them before and get more production from me twelve. Or Paul do you anticipate that they'll be any progress made as a relates to pipelines I mean it again. It's a northeastern problem. Specifically here in New England it's causing really a lot of the rate it means so the electric bills that I saw this summer were related to this problem. Which. It is is there any progress being made. The top seed I think and match typical what took an X Coakley is it seemed more anti enacted sometime between today. Until. Compact could try to shut off from the critical pipeline from Canada which gained. A lot more organized kind of our system to try and should on the punt and these pipe and so routine delays across the whole. Timeline of these projects to delay department came to make each individual steps of princess in them so I think the problem and I think it's a command gets what that the. Their Paul thank you very much for your time in your information we appreciate it yeah. You know Truckee the death the nightmare scenario. Of course is. You get he really cold winter. And oil production drops offs you're not getting that. You know the surplus natural gas you basically get for free up when you're drilling. Recount is down I mean that the recount I think we're down to levels we haven't seen since the 1940s. I I just look at this and in myself. If we get a really bad when like if you some of view. Are paying extraordinarily. High electricity costs why because they couldn't get the natural gas to the power plants in the cost went up. Yeah and as you mentioned rig count it continues to be incredibly low when we take a look at where we are compared. Just to a year ago were down about 30% in terms of the number of rigs in the U Weston and if we take a look compared to where we were. Back in 2014 to 2015. Yeah. We're better we're we're down like 60% we had at one point when he fifteen they were over 16100 rigs working in the US right now. Today there 524. And it's hard to understand the pay the the recount does correlate to natural gas production. Sounds like a lot of the problems of natural gas those not so much the production and what we have in storage is just getting it where you need it it is and and people in New England or no stranger to this because we've talked to land. About how look. We have this huge demand for natural gas here. The pipeline capacity isn't there so what do we do we turn into liquid form we bring it in from the ocean even though it takes you Howell how how expensive and how does it take to do that. It's we we don't have a a coherent policy when it comes to being able to transport it where it's needed. And it's because states and towns and communities can't agree on running because nobody wants the pipelines through the back on my backyard no I asked about it in my backyard. I feel. No leaks underground. And it's smelly in them now now that thing so let's go back to our poll question poll question is basically. At the end of the year really it would only October 12 now ray yes we've got to know whether or not you can use your vacation time. If it's a busy time year yeah he you don't wanna take it. You've got five days left and you make 300 bucks a day. Soul. At the end of the year what are your choices he can carry it forward. You can take the time right you just say take it to take the time or. You can put the 15100 bucks in your pocket. What do you do Tucker so you're on the spot your number one I hired set I take them. That protect the money to. You know everybody's broke I think the time chuck chuck to conduct that time. What are the app poll results so far Tucker so far 83% saying yes they would sell their vacation time back to their import capitalist pigs and you can vote on our website financial change doc just dropped to 71%. Content 71% we'll take the money he will call me the arch your you are a trend setter in this particular category I not me I would take the money. Me to stay home raise it's more work to stay home that is the comes up if I get more rest at the office and you. Such a way those. Eighty yet that it next story is gonna be related to the federal government they're running out of funds to detain illegal immigrants can't make this stuff up. I've not I kid you not. Immigrants and would like if you if you take blood pressure medication I hope we've already taken your myths because. This will get your blood boiling. Is in my source by the way is the Wall Street Journal pretty credible. It the old Department of Homeland Security is a month away from running out of money to detain illegal immigrants. Eight fresh sign of a federal budget dysfunction emerging less than two weeks after congress. Funded the government through early December the article goes on to stay and say. That if they don't get more money by early November when you talk about the three weeks from now. Officials will be forced to stop holding. Newly captured illegal immigrants including. High priority arrests at the border this according to. Officials at Homeland Security I mean this. If this doesn't tick you off. Great and you got plenty of money to pay for all kinds of purples programs but we don't have enough money to detain criminals who are entering the country. On the the amount of money that they're saying is required is small Department of Homeland Security is saying that there's a 136. Million dollar shortfall. To pay for monitoring and end housing for illegal immigrants while they're being processed stuff board deportation and unfortunately. You just do not have the resources properly allocated. Lot of summer heat should believe they went up it there was an earthquake in Haiti and so the immigrated from Haiti to South America. Now they can't find any work in South America so the coming up through Mexico and their streaming across the border. It it's. The thing that should be most bothersome to Heatley is you're listening to this is the fact. The high priority ones they're gonna turtles. Right you you would figured they'd be able to kind of say OK here you know you can. Do it based on the priority and based on the perceived dud danger some as a criminal record or something along those lines. And it appears just be based on where he came in the line is what's what's actually going to be happening here. News when we just given citizenship poetry rarity in government and I digress and stay away from the topics. Chipotle Mexican Grill they're down cash check this company. As much as I like them evidently you and higher not doing our fair share to support Tripoli Mexican grill stocks down another five dollars symbol of CNG. I would have thought by now. That the would have started to recover in terms of state storks. The big problem with food is when you have something like this and people go somewhere else and realize that they can get by just fine without that burrito. All of a sudden they don't they don't go back as much or they go back but not as frequently as they used to and it's it's the biggest fear with any type. Service. Because it's it's not something like where your buying it Carney says okay I'm gonna buy the car once that I don't need no one for 910 years or whatever whom this is a situation. You need to eat every day right and once you get into a different routine we've seen all the time people Zoete. Think the he wins you re Riddick. But it is still where they go I mean for me when the whole E. Coli thing broke out I found it cheaper and kind of better alternative a whole foods. Whole foods makes him. Burrito yes he's very good and it's cheaper which is cheaper than triple correct it's 799. Don't just pull it. I carried a broad closed at nine box very I've never seen Perino had to the wanna hang them. What we're we're in the stores and the its world to prepare food and foods are Jamey Carroll. You they give you card check off forty greeting to electing your burrito or burrito bowl. So seat you know bold useless current depth and yet to mine for fifteen minutes. Mostly it's kind of like the same set up as deli counter discount way to mimic the real fear takes five minutes tops so most of what is it a burrito bar at whole food yeah you can build your own sandwich or you can delivery that's with the incorporated. That animal foods. Actually you know do we think about it logically. To birds of Poland style rate ego there have lunch. Pick up a few grocery items you might need is too expensive for me. It was not getting into the music streaming business. If I were Spotify. Or pandora. I'd be really nervous. I beat her if if are either one of those right now I would be terrified just because Amazon is the 800 pound gorilla in. Anything online retail they've you know Amazon prime obviously has transformed how just about anyone shops right now. And in particular they've also seen people starting to use their movie services Amazon prime video. At a higher rate as well wool. Now they're moving in chew. Streaming them monthly streaming subscription services for. For music. This is new to a lot of us to understand that my generation. We used to like I still buying music I I go to the I the iTunes store and I buy. Music I'd do and and I listened to them. I don't have a streaming service you don't you want but as he did you do we have Amazon prime I don't use it though what he could I've used I used Amazon prime and that's I as I thought so this is is this separate from Amazon prime because I get in yet on prime music for free it is this is separate from Amazon prime so Tucker. With Amazon prime the way it's set up right now. That what I gather is you don't do you pick individual songs that you wanna listen to. And I mean is pretty similar to a pandora they have station both their recommended playlist. I'm pretty sure you can't do individual songs but in my opinion for. So what Amazon's doing with this new Amazon music service is they are going to be allowing you instead of just listening to a station it's much like Spotify you can go win. And any song that you want that's on their platform you can listen to any time. OK so it gives you an and in the case Spotify. Talkative point eight million songs got air like they're up there yeah it's it's just huge numbers and so as opposed to having to go out and spend a dollar 2999. Cents on a song. You simply pay four dollars or eight dollars a month neo and you can listen to millions so it's cheaper to that spot. It can be the other the issue and this is something that I'm most people don't realize. Is that. Also. In general streaming services pay their artist absolutely horrible. It is I don't care Catalonia. Are what you want to continue to make music that goes on concert she's she her concert she's making a killing and death I think they'll be okay. It's not just to Delhi this that the big problem is not for the big top and superstar level it's for anyone trying to make it because right now. The reimbursement rates for Spotify. No guy. In terms of how much or how much they pay. Back to the the art art and so forth. It's you're talking literally millions of a cent but as as an artist you don't have to give Spotify access to your music. If you're on a leave so typically. There are a couple different platforms that you have if you're signed to a small indie label dose typically operate under bigger distribution networks as well in typically those are signs in the Spotify so they can try to promote their music from but the problem is the artisans of getting ripped guys who say these days you know making it pretty basic what I understood about the music businesses if you're an artist you have to go on tour. You do so it spotter he let me make big money the average per stream. Amount that you get is generally somewhere around six hundredths of a cent. Powerless so if someone with nothing if you get 600 if you get a hundred people listening to you you get sick sense is that worldwide. Yeah enabling got forty million users. Spotify so it's Amazon's only got like five it's just you know you you can have 101000 people listen when you're songs and and you gets like sixty bucks it's like what what's going on whereas if those 101000 people ought to see your concern is that it's gonna spiteful artists and they're not gonna go into this there's there's been a lot written about it I. And there's actually there's a great story that came out this was from a band yup it was back in May of this year's they got a million different place on all of their songs okay. That a million plays how much do you think they earned. Million plays were based in your numbers forty dollars. They think they earned 4900 dollars per million people listening to their songs on Monday and 5000 dollars if if if you're five person band do get a thousand bucks each for having a million people listen to your music. Now it's tough yeah it's it. It's please. Our eight when we come back we're going to be talking to Andrew weaned from Morningstar looked at very big through Alcoa they reported yesterday. It's certainly as we are joined by Andrew lane for Morningstar today and thank you very much for joining us. I Everett. Andrew talking today about Al cola company that reported yesterday it was disappointing. Stocks sold off significantly continues to sell off today. Is this one that you're bullish on after this dip or that you think that they could still have some worse days yet column. Well we also look. At a big sell off as a buying opportunity but in this case that that's not the way we feel shares sold off about 11% yesterday and there are in the but two to 3% today. The key driver of the sell off was the fact that a code management team cut its guidance. For the company's value add segments these are there operations net exposure to a wide variety of industrial and market including aerospace. Automotive packaging construction. Transportation. It's that are out and that's beside a package of of operations had really been viewed as the driver crop growth going forward for the company. And that those expectations now I have to deal that tempered after just days during early. What are the biggest headwinds and they're facing obviously I know on the un and the pure mining side. It's just all of the flooding that's been coming in from from China and other low cost producers. But on the unknown material side when you're talking about though you know really be applied materials side of things what what's holding them back there. They're great question and I agree with you on the mining side their upstream more commodity facing aluminum business. In our opinion has no real competitive advantage. It's a relatively. Middle and high cost this economic Oscar Anne and we don't see much crop walk or broke from Matt business going forward. From the value added that it is that again these are kind of manufactured value added aluminum products. They also have exposure to aerospace actually produce titanium. And titanium alloys and other specialty aloe and suck at a high tech. Specialty metals per aerospace. He had when there. Is they've had some issues integrating. I'm of their recent acquisitions the company spent about four point five billion dollars in acquisitions deeply when he fourteen. All of that is really geared toward increasing their exposure to aerospace. And clearly one of those that position for Rick's been nearly three billion dollar acquisition. Has been somewhat of a weak performer relative to what management expected in relative to what look what we expected. Along those lines I think be integration process that particular act acquisitions and after improve. As we're gonna get excited about about their downstream. A product exposure once again. Is there anyone that would consider. Picking Alcoa up as at an acquisition if it doesn't seem to me there would be but maybe Elin gave him off base on this. Well what's interesting is that companies actually splitting into two in just a few weeks here at the upstream commodity trading business will retain the Alcoa name. And and and we'll trade has its own entity and then the value added business that's three particular reporting segments within within the existing company. Police split off into a separate company called our comic. And CEO of the current company will will become CEO of that value add a comic business. And so we're we're gonna have to start early trading stocks here and in my opinion. B upstream karate facing company you though because Alcoa really won't be all that attractive as an acquisition candidate again no real competitive candidate at play. I and the and the downstream business rather than being acquisition target I think it's more likely that they'll be in the. Could have mowed it felt like I said they've been very positive or nap billion dollars that the in the plate when he fourteen. I did the though the weight of the what they played the we're looking for other revenue opportunities. But I think they really wanted to increase their exposure terrorist base. And not just for aluminum but but for the production of other special material other that'll them. And rather than building out that expertise and spells I think they're they're more likely to acquire a look for that that bounce and it would be mark but the debate in the years on. They're doing and thanks again for joining us. Thank Andrew and for Morningstar talking about Alcoa with a ticker AAA. You know Lee if it's tough when you see a business like that that is so negatively impacted. By foreigners. Yeah I mean obviously the as he's getting the death knell for them with the Chinese well this I mean that what the Chinese Government did is pretty much they decided they were going to produce at a loss in order to try to gain market share and put other companies out of business and Alcoa. And your other miners Rio Tinto as the world and so forth they've all been negatively impact. Remember what China did to mover. And they certainly can't work your seasons and money nobody just did. Could end up gifting 100000. Dollars to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is that possibly true. And not only is it possibly true I think it's fun. It's a fact I mean an end basically that the reason that is folks as. Because you have a million dollar exemption here in Massachusetts. And that means that I can leave a million to someone other than a spouse and my spouse can leave a million to someone other spouse can and there's no tax. But when you have that simple will in place that leaves everything to my spouse when like I'm sure you think you don't have anything else to do well. I die I pay no taxes my wife pays no taxes but my wife now has. Two million dollars for example right so she's got everything that we had together. Well when she dies is in two million bigger than one million. Her exemption is one million. My exemption is lost is wasted so now that two million dollars is gonna be taxed and in Massachusetts they tax you on the whole boat. Not just the amount over. And attacks on the whole boat and two million dollars in Massachusetts is. A hundred brands such a voluntary tax like you say you're making a gift to the commonwealth you put together that trust whether they be re probable folks or irrevocable if you wanna add nursing home protection at the same time. We have earnings season and earning season began yesterday with Alcoa. And I'm gonna say they leave and made me they did not do well yesterday. And it's kind of this this false start if you because you had a Alcoa report for not really gonna get into the the grit. Of earnings until next week even arguably the weekend after the entire bodies buried chuck and you know the market was down 200 points I was trying to figure out why the market was down two points yesterday he certainly wasn't based on call. No it's based on Alcoa you did have a little bit of a pullback in energy prices which I think contributed to its somewhat. The other thing that you did see is you did see a egos were 200 point oh I don't think you did see you bump up in now long term rate ten year treasury selling off a little bit and I think part of that may be due to expectations. Of even though you're not gonna see a whole lot in terms of that movement the next couple months you might see it and getting the sense that people are starting to predict a little bit more from them next year than maybe we had thought original. So ten year treasury at 178. Yep. That's gonna put a little crimp in rural state that it's not bad but you noted does is it 178 on the ten year probably takes out a lot of refinance. It does and in particular what we've seen. On that ten year treasury to put in perspective where it has moved over the last. Month or so now okay we were downed and really the last couple months back in August we're down at 158 suits bit about almost a quarter percent move up there. And that does do something. To reduce some of the refinancing availability for people that may be fewer in the 4% range said well try to get down to three and a quarter but you might not even half. Well we'll see immunity I I'm I'm not in the camp were we getting three rate hikes next year I'm not either. And Arafat to what I've seen you know we talked about that jolt report this morning that was week. It is at least the trend line was not good. And if the job market weakens and if Hillary wins and raises taxes. And I'm not sure you don't slip into recession actually he had he had he raise rates if you're in a recession in the first half with 2017 I still think it remains to be seen whether DC tax increase is going through depending on what happens congress. That may be part of the recent yesterday to a lot of lot was written about congress maybe go to the Democrats that. We'll see. They you as a Comcast customers time horizon for your Verizon rcn New York are. Yeah I screwed up my whole story hello Comcast was fine for charging customers for channels they didn't want to I don't use. Really no. Effect. That the you know we talk about Wells Fargo buried in and look at what happened to them for corporate governance I'm not sure what Comcast is doing is any better yet Comcast somebody screwing the public Condit contest has. And you're with one of the biggest find ever levied on AI cable company that being find 2.3 million dollars. And there are also agreeing to give consumers a chance to block the addition of news services and equipment. If they don't want it I don't always have to agree to that. I I'm gonna call bull crap on this because you know. A bank does anything wrong and they did find two billion dollars Comcast what they're doing this this just be clear. They were. Making you pay for channels month after month then year after year that you didn't want and you didn't sign up for the big if by two million bucks. It Bank of America did something like this they would eight they'd charge them. Billions of dollars in penalties. Maybe these people actually want the channels and hedges and they didn't and or money. Oh yeah they telling you it's it's just that. You know it it depends on what industry you're in you know what doesn't and the problem with the cable industry's I think the expectations for service so low that the time people are just like look good. And he options are so few it's it's just it's terrible just because there's so much consolidation and you really don't have many options are pretty much. You know Comcast is the what are your choices you live in in the city would with you Marcy and what else could you are seen in Comcast and what are your choices Comcast and files. Verizon last. Sony Sony is turning to virtual reality to fuel their come back Sony is accompanied me. Japanese company not done well I mean they just the the I don't with a stocky and was it really train. Stocks in about thirty to 65 right now it's near its high point for the last year though but this country better than I thought this a company that back in 2000 was worth about a 150 dollars and tossed around 80% since then. Big thing that it pushed them there was what their TVs were the envy of everyone else their PlayStation 2 had a really captured most of gaming at that point. And then they just had a series of missteps that they never could get things together their PlayStation 3 was a complete disaster their TVs have been surpassed by a lot of other male anchors. LG has come in Samsung has has had some very good TDs. It in the you really have just been surpassed in terms the products that they're making they also keep in mind. What are the biggest things that's on them was the iPad they're not iPad iPod. Nokia and Sony remember has got to be 1015 years ago. The Sony remember was one of the biggest manufacturers. Of portable music. Hardware when you talk about the disk man the walkman and all that. All of a sudden all that business has gone right all of that is gone so they lost all that business they flopped on the PlayStation 3 that saudis have been great. You would unique about this virtual reality Nat. The bared their big gaming company they are and but and that's that you've always said that this first foray for virtual reality in beginning it is I just don't know enough people were interest right now and I think BR is still going to be the future. But the content it's still too thin right now but can this team on virtually it would be better played the U game on virtual with the whole headset on this before and I think that's shark sang it's that the contact. But for video gamers not there all export. Item is already there that they're so there's some games that are available but it's just there's not enough out there I think to make a four remark that the price point is right 400 bucks each. I think you are apt to have the Sony PlayStation in order to use a VR you do. So for me I don't have the Sony playstations I'd be looking at what 800 dollar note this statement that separate system I've. But I thought you had to have it act like happy goes in your place. I believe it is a separate. Machine that I separately or 400 bucks and it's good I'll bile. At the reason I didn't by the ansari is in tandem it has held if it's intended to yours you're talking 900 bucks right. And that was the problem that FaceBook had with the rockets that are if you wanted to outfit yourself with the FaceBook rock it was 223 bucks that's that's too in the program just isn't there yet he bias. You watched the four programs that are available in the what. It's it's a real chicken and egg problem right now but I do still think it is the long term solution. But it's it's just the programming. I'm still a year or two away from even considering buying anything via are related to the program because there so it's not the price of the equipment. Program for you if it's the if it's. Is that if someone's that you pay 800 bucks for TV you're getting the best TV out there and you would do. But the problem is yet to be able to watch something he can't do you can't do and boom in via artist. Our text number is 68680. And on Wednesdays. We interview business owners that's just what we do. Aetna cutting their workforce in reducing. Their work at home policy rumors have it shocked that they're gonna have an early retirement program. Dell ought to talk that they may have some kind of package coming out for. Numbers there people if they are looking to essentially. Cut rolls and then just not feel anyone on the backside there so lot of chatter about that happening but also what's interesting is that. At that it has always been one of the companies that has encourage their employees to work from home and telecommute right. They're now starting to walk that back in this thing that a major reason for that is that they're not seeing the level of collaboration that they want amongst their employees to which I would say. Maybe don't have the right technology. Well I don't know Haiti I think there's a lot to be said for sitting in a conference room where haven't copy of the guy in in just in inner relaxed environment. A I I I've never been in a big work from home guy pay egg I just find. If I when I tried to me I was distracted that was not terribly productive maybe just takes practice the 43%. A bit in his employees in Connecticut don't work from home. And if there within fifty miles of an office they're gonna have to go to the office. 250 miles at the long haul especially in Connecticut you know you're you're talking if you're trying to go we opened on 84 something like that mean you could potentially be go for two hours so I figured they may even have some employees that leave just because that and maybe that's their goal is to say look if you know milk. In that that might be something that the try to do if they're cutting jobs is saying. If you are on the outskirts that range. Maybe they're they're trying to push B. Aloud whether down to 6000 employees in Connecticut Connecticut those are very soft job market you know we talked about. How do you know it's booming. In eastern Massachusetts. Springfield the starting to do better now because of all the construction and got the the casino being held and in Springfield is actually coming back but Connecticut. A tie it employers are continuing to leave Connecticut you know with the GE's of the world get the headlines but there's a lot of small players that are leaving Connecticut so. I I think if you're an older worker for Aetna in the Alfie you an early retirement program you just take a long look at that. Yeah it's it is it is a very challenging work environment in Connecticut right now simply because again a lot of small employers well some of the big ones you know have left recently. And so it is it is it is a state. That I think you have people where you know we've seen an uptick in the number of people that are leaving jobs in order to go to new ones. You not necessarily seems much that in Connecticut just because there isn't as robust job. You know I got an idea a question from listen to the other day in the asked is there anything that can be done. Without a durable power of attorney once a loved one becomes incompetent and so. The biggest mistake I think they made was with the name of this not not spin off but arm that they tried to develop. They created a eight. Company within a company. Called the society of grown ups to try to market to mullah meals well. People have this idea that in order to market the millennial you have to dumb everything down and make it sound really stupid. It doesn't work like that colonials have been sold through their entire lives they know when someone is trying to sell to them. But I wouldn't like if I mass mutual why would I want a millennial as a customer. Well he's if you pick them up early on okay its revenues you can have that tell you if you're trying to pool risk gas and ensure. You know it generally. Young people tend to be healthier low what are they try so you sell that he is in this to sell life insurance and they're trying to use it I think just trying to market. Two Mullen feels okay. And and they pretty much had almost no success within this point of trying to move. All the resources in this thirty people work and that's the vision. Why the heck do you call something the society of grown up like it doesn't appeal of the millennial appeals the five girls like this there's a difference here like this. I know we've we've even talked about the we've talked to someone about the surveys they've done right Tucker and I know I've seen the name somewhere society of grown ups. I instantly I don't even know what that is. Now I realize what it actually is it's like who came up with that I thought it was a good idea. I just I just work here they don't feel like trying to sell the women by having like the society of bait you just don't do like it just doesn't work like that. And conduct. So what is holding back on line or for sales I've tried it. And I didn't like it I'm curious based on your studies why people aren't adopted 2% is is very little. And we we see grass around it and mean it's not. Is it the there's not very much markets and penetration thus far. While you know one big hurdles here in agreement. That is the story but it it's conceding. Is that it. Yeah I wouldn't be buried in my he'd go and eat it at interior Eddie picture it getting the right at tomato or. Something like that they. They're angry you know and they weren't my eat really need to actually it was being that there actually raster. You know of the quality that they act non would get you turtle people ordering online actually. Yeah that that's would. Holds by me back I like to go to the store but how does Amazon expect to be able to compete with Kroger or market basket I mean that you look at those stores. They're gonna hat there are there any market basket stores can be a lot larger than these little stores and Amazon's and it creates a Y. As a consumer Laura why would I go to an Amazon. Little 7-Eleven type store as opposed to go into a big girl for store wherever much bigger variety and probably lower prices. I mean one thing about going in Indy beat L you know their drag that they're still get a little window between fifteen minutes if she hours. You can call and in late and then they'll get the question about your cart within about I think that you know one thing they're gonna go. EU's. Getting in and out really quickly and then you know just keeping people enter. That my Hershey shopping that you're talking or me you know and hopefully ordering other things that may be it serial. They are you know it being the only Argentina and online. Does that appeal to you lore they I'm listening to you and I know wal mart's doing that they think Stop & Shop might be doing that as well. End I said to my wife and are talking about it and we said gag if if I'm gonna go to the grocery store and walk through it just what I want. Neither one of us were in enthralled how do you feel that. Boring it down and personal here you know we want to know and he just how you which you know would would would your emotions. Lover fighter at them and let and I I it. Eric. Yet they. It would it's. When an instinct for the court should start and it occurred and I am and I work late and now I did order a lot and I urge you out there and it and I think that the because being let out. But it was definitely deeper comedians I think it you know is you know a lot heart brokered. In the bottom of the world than to actually make as an EE crock. Getting you know Ali you tactic it really aren't a lot of people. I agree any differently if they could deliberately what I would want as a consumer lore. I'd wanna be able to order my growth trees at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. And have them delivered at 7 o'clock at night did you do that in Germany. Without talking to the I. I being. Yeah they would give you vary. Tight kindly older your cursory at the local Kirsch each. Offering service you and I think that all of that play out. There every. Single day. That's that's the key thing IE in my estimation anybody locally in the United States doing a good job at this in your estimation. Well I mean a lot of retail chains that virtually experimenting with a straight now going on arts that's common. They've expanded view I'm about 600 Haitians back at the your doctorate at trying to get there at. And that you know everybody. In it and. Huge business in the big opportunity Laura thanks for being a good sport and thanks for your time. Laura Stevens Wall Street Journal. I. I do I don't know they idea I'm very specific in what I want for my growth trees and you know chuck I'm coming around your way of thinking more and more on this switches. You know. I I kind of wanted to go through the store did you think of things that you might want to if you're drunk walking down the aisle. And you see that they've got frozen swordfish on sale for six bucks a pound stock up you know. Well exactly and in particular at the big the big thing that still needs to be addressed when it columns. Two online grocery shopping you know is being able to pick out what you want now he hears a way that I could see this becoming something I want to use it. You have something on the other side set up to that you're looking at a warehouse and you say look I want this tomato this tomato and now one. And you know wrote little robotic hand comes out of Lexington this and that. Then then we're kind of getting somewhere I can still get what I want. He at least gets close to that that's too expensive it's too complicated for that's that's gonna you gonna lose earlier this robotic hand. Which is squeezed the today could have just as I could be like a person standing this close them Gloria do you. Think this ever takes I I think this might be something where Amazon fails I think I am looking at it and I just it could be. But it's the thing about Amazon is they at least try and they move on. Yeah I like I think Wal-Mart will blow it and I I have very little confidence in them I've tried. Stop and shops service with people autos. You know it was mediocre at best. They act I just don't know that it's ever gonna take off I just again am I like to go in. Take a look at the stakes in which one I want it which went has good ideas to me that you. You think of the U think of your menu if you're walking down the hill don't like you sail boats have seafood on nine Tuesday night to have. Let chicken on Wednesday nights and on Thursday will cook up some land it like he get. Ideas as you walked in on the I think that I think the grocery store businesses safe I I think Amazon's really gonna struggle in this particular.
