This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chokes. You're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your date your sleep your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chunks. Eight years ago. We were in the midst of the financial crisis unlike anything we have seen since the 1930s. And frankly in 1929 there. Hi everybody is very Armstrong and trucks not with you here on Wednesday where we are examining. The state of our market and economy. During the last eight years that we're doing as a matter fact we saw a report leaked released yesterday is unfortunately released after the show had concluded. And it stated China the US household incomes surged five point 2% in 2015. It's the first team that we've seen since 2000. Yeah it is and this this does not adjust for inflation OK so when you factor that in the real gain is actually probably somewhere. Around 3% when it's all said and done much that is is really. Eight a big move in one year and I think also speaks to kind of what we have seen in general with the tightening labor market that has less people out of work right less qualified people out of work. Okay and the other thing that I think that is important. When you look at that this report coming out the Census Bureau. Is that the gains. World largely more evenly distributed than we've seen in recent years are you seeing a lot more growth at the bottom end of the wage spectrum. Which is where he is where where you want me because if you if if somebody who's making. 40000 dollars a year goes from 40000 to 43000 dollars in the course of the year. They're gonna spend that extra 3000 dollars a year that money gets immediately ended the economy. If somebody goes from making 250000. Dollars a year to making 260000. Dollars a year they may end of deceiving that extra 101000. Earnings exactly so you did see the gains much more evenly distributed here in particular other things that you saw. Big big down tick in the number of Americans living in poverty no okay by about 1% going from about fourteen half percent of the population down to around thirteen and half today that's still too high obviously don't want anyone. Living in that. In that type situations so I think those types of trends are positive also continuing to see. The earnings between men and women. Narrowing the gap there has narrowed to women are now earning on average about 79 point 6% of what men make any given year so you continuing to see some strong signs in the last year here the question is is it enough. You know and I think that's where a lot of people know it's never still sit there and and they say look you know yeah I had you know a decent year this year. But the last five or six were pretty crap before that it really get. Me anyway now the you know what something it. We we should point out is that. These income gains that we've seen. Which was another good thing that was seen as it cuts across all races is is not like Asian people are making have been better optics than white people are white people are doing better than black people. Who are doing better than Hispanic it doesn't matter. It's across all races. But where it doesn't guy. Would go is if you're in the rural areas or in the small towns yes you're not seen the same wage growth know it and that's. Tells you why people have been flocking to the big cities. Well and and and let's also talk about that in terms the context of what we are seeing in general in this country you look at where Donald Trump has gotten a lot of support from collateral sport there is you kind of have this two separate Americas at this point that has developed with rural communities feeling like they are left out they are in the data that. It shows that they are left out I mean it's now. It's very clear here you understand why look. And in. I am guilty of this too we live in the near cities. And you don't often see that there's an awful lot of people that are left out simply by virtue of being more than forty or fifty miles away from those major cities. Go out to western Massachusetts go up into northern New Hampshire go. Northern Maine I mean you look at those are still areas that are economically depressed yeah IBM's hiring 700 engineers in the city of Cambridge. But that doesn't really help and doesn't really do much for Springfield. Yep one question that we get from 617 if we got this big raises and nationwide GNP not going up as much. Reason for that is businesses have not been investing as much that's the big thing it's UF consumer spending that has been occurring. At a higher rate but businesses. Have not been investing that's the real reason why you're not seeing GNP or GDP which is the statistic use today. That's why you're not seeing that moving up at the same rights over. Consumers have still been moving through and consumers have actually been spending more this year it's just that business is in particular energy and mining and manufacturing. Have pulled back on spending. And that's a drag on the economy right. You know I've I started off the show talking about where we were the years ago and our whole question of the day. Is related to that very topic talkers Silva. What's our poll question and how to our listeners participant our listeners can participate by going to financial exchange showed dark column in answering the following question yes or no. Are you financially better off today than you were eight years ago and so far it's overwhelmingly yes with 90%. 90%. Of our listeners so far so far saying that they're better off than they were eight years to correct. Well you know what that makes sense eight years ago the wheels were coming off I remember like it was yesterday. In October of 2008. Chuck I think I did something like forty television appearances federal emergency television appearances in one month. Yet I I was looking at the dates actually this morning you've was eight years ago on this Friday was when the reserve primary from the money market fund broke the buck went under one dollar a share. And then it really was the next month is how everything just spiraled the biggest. Did the biggest decline being on September 29 of 2008 when the Dow lost about 7% 774. Points. That was really that today what would have to happen for the down 7%. So for the doubt to lose 7% today okay V over a thousand points. 12160 points. In a single day that's that's the equivalent of what you saw on September 20 seconds. Rather I'm sorry on September 29 of 2008 that was also the date that Citigroup acquired Wachovia okay. Just before that on September 18 was one Bank of America had bought Merrill Lynch. Number mock what Kobe it was a big pain you went away in Washington Mutual went away Bear Stearns went away Merrill Lynch what do I mean. These are companies that all collapse that's what happens when you've financial bubble. Yep and that's that's you know people always often asked you know are are we potentially heading back into that type of situation. And I typically tell them no because the financial system isn't what is stressed at this point you don't have the banks that borrow you don't have banks that are similarly stressed because you've had additional regulation and so you know there's a difference between a downturn caused by financial instability in the system and one that just caused by look. Business just isn't doing well today. The polls are tightening up the you can participate in our poll question by going to the financial exchange showed dot com. 83%. Of you now save your better off than you were eight years ago 16%. Saying no worse off. That I work was eight years in which is Tibet a Tibet for. Samsung rushes to contain the fallout from the galaxy note 70 boy recall. I'll tell you what. I think I saw that this company has lost ten billion dollars in market capitalization. The galaxy note seven by all accounts he can ask our next guest guest Geoffrey Fowler. I think Jeffrey would tell you besides the fact that it explodes catches fire. It was a better phone than the Apple iPhone was. Is I think the the operative word at this point what they've done and what that what you're discounting him because the explosion thing well it off at the thought of that boy thing what a tough judge he has it depends if that's your thing I mean look if you're the kind of guy who likes fire and enjoys that type thing look by all means go on you you can probably get for pennies on the dollar right now but which Samsung is done in order to fix this. Is they've put in a software fix that prevents the battery from charging to more than 60% which is a real inconvenience is think about that you can use that phone. By nobody the here's the thing that I would I am I'm glad they're doing it I mean it's better than having the darn things explode but. Here's the big problem they have. We been talking about this for we can. That you still don't if you have one of these phones right. And you go to the story and you say well. I wanna give it back don't they don't give you another phone they don't have the hardware ready to go force so what do you do I I it begs the question like. I I don't know about you but I. I would not live for three weeks without myself all I have to have myself this is the kind of move that is gonna set Samsung back by three to five years is that exists that a Volkswagen type moment for Samsung I think it's bigger because people are more able more likely to trade in a phone in the car. Good point and it is so it's an easier trade it's easy and trade and it's also more difficult to go back isn't because the so let's use a while I've given up now you may go to another Droid but. If you say well I'm given up on my idea my stance on an ongoing apple you're probably not gonna go back. You might not the other thing is as you mentioned. You don't even need to necessarily go to apple he could just go to another android based phone I mean there are other options that are out there so the big east to Michael back cents. You could. You could but you know this is the kind of thing where you know you're you're having people and we we again I think it was on Friday when we had the guy who was texting and saying look I was trying to get on a plane and they wouldn't let me on with this phone so like when bought an iPhone and he went apple and I'll. Bet two dollars to donuts he doesn't go back. But the pens a much credit doughnuts and have you tried the the new apple IOS Tanya have you downloaded at I don't know and I have a what what do you think Tucker it's a little bit of an adjustment. It's. Yes I'd say it's definitely an adjustment I think the whole Imus stings a little goofy enough childish but I got a warm up too little little bit I mean this couple cool features it's definitely worth the upgrade them. Is it yes I'll I'll get to it. Speaking of phones there's nobody that knows more about technology in Geoffrey Fowler trucks not a he's going to interrogate. Geoffrey Fowler about the iPhone seven that is our next topic from our insurer match dot com studios. How all the upcoming election affect your finances and your business but no right here it's the financial exchange on the financial exchange radio network. Where you go. You going to. It was an. Hi everybody Barry or strike here from the financial exchange and I'm joined by Jay who was senior vice president at liter bank. Leader bank does tremendous amount of mortgage loans as a matter fact I've used them a couple times to refinance properties in the past. Jake how's the mortgage does these days it's been an extremely busy Barea. There are a lot of people buying Holmes. So that's kept the purchase market very very busy you know on top of that racers still at all time lows so we've a lot of folks who are refinancing their homes either get a better rate or or some cash out because of properties preach that's risen asked how does somebody know where they should call to refine. Well you know. Dude there's really 22 ways if they feel that the rate can be improved. Give mystery ams and you know thirty year fixed racer all time lows. If you have anything in there in the 4% range frankly give us in my view he's something. Or if you need to take some cash and of your property wondered for a college tuition for kids aren't you guys have home equity lines of credit we have home equity lines of credit as well and the cool thing about that is. If you already had a green reader and your first mortgage you know home equity line of credit which will leave your first loan as it is allow you access the equity. Makes a lot of sense and you've got fifteen year fixed rate mortgages by your adjustable rate were all types and hopefully we we have all types of that in addition to that were actually very active Jumbo and yourself. And properties have really appreciated in the markets in Massachusetts. And higher demand for Jumbo loans that we do a lot of that so last year Berry we are actually not the number two hole perch Englander Massachusetts. It for you congratulations. I have not tried out the new iPhone. Seven but Geoffrey Fowler has been now he joins chuck saga to give that a review he has indeed trying to do my phone seven as well as perhaps the the seven. Plus. Deborah thank you. For joining us today. You better in my view on that aren't you talking I was on the seven what sounds good I'll tell you that much so at least we know that the the voice works pretty well. If they finally conquered out that's good to hear us what which model was it that they had the trouble with was that on the three that they had problems with the voice I can't remember. It was the board has been defamed and and negate. That's controversy. In which at Steve Jobs told the world that we were just open the phone wrong. Maybe we work maybe we were Jeffrey what's your what's your take I guess kind of just from a top down level when you look at the I phone seven. What does it do that is significantly different or better. From previous models. There puncher on if your listeners and out are the bad news about it and the really the bad news is they typical ways that head phone Jack that we. We've grown accustomed to using government years. But it couldn't. That I found actor and tested it for the last week is that they replaced that space inside the vote. With battery. And some other things that we really do want on our phones. And those things all add up to I think it's actually pretty decent upgrade for. For anybody who's especially coming from an older I. Now I'm not gonna say that this is like the best phone out there that many comprise it didn't matter you have called it that the best Smartphone of sweet sixteen. And apple but it should have put it out. Samsung hasn't and some other way to move to head into the technology this is a solid upgrade. 44 icons. In terms of the battery life having own the phone our being able to tested for the last couple weeks what have you seen in terms of battery life improvements how much better exit than the previous model. Sure world away I tests. Batteries for the journal on the buy. Under that put the spirit of a really rigorous stress test or that they're right there on the screen that level about it stand on the bone. And I make them cycle dual booting up a bunch what it is simple lack side. And in that test adverse there's a fresh out of about on that. The seven lasted about an hour and a half longer that means in everyday real world like the public it at least two hours more life. And and but it really means for most of last is that you previously had trouble. Getting through that Dave was and I currently are on iPhone and you'll be less likely to have trouble with that now. I think that's the biggest potential improvement here you know that they had batteries so much on the bones. And so the battery it better on it is just going to be a source of anxiety for a. What a lot of buzz coming out about the about the new camera. That is on I don't know if it's on both the seven and the seven plus but can you talk a little bit about any testing you may have done on that side. Yet that that's another thing they were able to improve again with just spaced the game the other side not had contact in the air. Instead both cameras happening at both bottle of new cameras. And they both have something called optical image stabilization and now which means that he would sort of compensate steer handshake little engagement photo. And they also have a sensor and you went. Which means that we take photos that night they're just gonna come out much better as a bit samples on the journal's website has my back importantly. It is different. Model and they'd be doing something. Extra for that that got a second went on it. That kind of resume live yet though it had to act in mind that you can use that to to close their two year subject to secure without losing quality. And then this year and the ability just on that model to create a kind of a suspect they're using the distance between those. To lend to calculate how our way things are like that look more professional photograph you're only gonna get that on the. Now let's talk about the the big shift obviously being that move away from the headphone Jack to the lightning connector. I'm curious not only how you know obviously it's a little bit different just in terms of where you plug in your headphones but how was it affected how you use the phone one thing that people brought up was. What you can't charge your phone and listen to music on headphones at the same time right now. I know who did that to begin with but. What have you noticed from just a functionality perspective about how that's changed things. Sure yeah I mean I think apple really screwed up in communicating about this change. And didn't everybody think that. You know that that you weren't going to be able to use a console war and elect that the but here here's the tax the box still comes with courted and found it in your pocket where my Hewitt. And now instead of talking to a headphone Jack. The one that I'm in the box on into the lightning work. So I used bed what you buy another adapter unit charged with and listen to music with those and act on. Anymore. You have older cell phones we invested in Ireland has their boat or something else. You can use those in the box also comes with a little adapter that lets you. But it that the technically at post trying to exit people toward Bluetooth wireless at. And down stayed meeting you kind of add on called air. I would sit and try as well and kind of a pre really expert I've urgently and installed in October and I got to stay like. The experience that we can count. With wireless that don't adjust a lot better let me think of their artwork taken out of the little container that charges them but despite Avaya. As Avaya. They're it will. Lost. He chickened out and immediately connects to whatever you're never around apple devices caused by putting your ears and just play into playing music. Take 11 out of your net positive. That note he took it out of here to put it back in there and start up again. I'm the biggest problem with these are great that they're so small that they are gonna lose. A 160 dollars to put your dad is that is a much Ewing stand for something slightly. Or Google Jeffrey thank you very much for joining us they were really appreciated. You bet. Geoffrey Fowler from the Wall Street Journal. You're expecting your iPhone seven. A couple weeks now hopefully and ordered yet you still haven't ordered an do we know is that guy talked and got on the phone from apple. He said try going on the web site on Friday or Saturday. And you might be of the find a story that has won and stock as opposed to if he told me if I ordered if I did the pre order I was going to be waiting till at least the middle of October. Those two long. So I'm rolling the dice. I'm holding out till next year I'll wait ten year anniversary they're gonna do something big it'll extraordinary it's it's going to be I mean like Steve Jobs gonna come out your phone. And he's actually going to be alive general I want that by the way while you guys were talking return relax. Apple Stock is now up three dollars and 43 cents today so you know we're sitting here and we're debating. The value of this phone whether or not it's any good or not get in the past what you saw was when the new folds came out. The stock ran up in up to the date that came out but that McCain if they've pulled back. This is doing I think a different type of behavior the stock is rallying even though the bonus come out so. The reviews have been mixed on Jeffrey just give us a very positive review on the iPhone yeah I haven't but I think they're benefiting I think a lot of this rally in the price is Sampson. And I think you know keep in mind that people were projecting. Pretty mediocre sales for the eyes on seven and so all you have to do in order to come out on top there. Is just be pretty good you don't need to be great you just need to be good. Trivia comes up next. A tape you ought to take a leader an example on that leadership. I think Wells Fargo CEO John stopped takes the cake and his guy. I think made a fatal mistake yesterday that cost him his job. Yet the other CEO saying and I quote there was no incentive to do bad things pretty much his line. I have to imagine he's line. He might not have known about it is I don't think he got into the weeds men's in this but I do think that people fairly senior in Wells Fargo had to know in order to see 5000 employees. Guilty of doing this like you don't fire you don't have something that 5000 employees are doing if there is no problem. And when you have a problem right you would you do EE stepped forward and you say you know what. We we did some things that lowering correct we we ended up having to fire 5000 employees we fired 200 executives or whatever it is you did. But ultimately the blame lies with me I was in charge I was responsible. I I'm gonna fall on the sword he didn't do that you know what he does he comes out says. While this this was in in our employees just didn't reach into senior management and to that I say you know what you're full of these employees were consented they were checked on several times per day. Per day to see how many new accounts it. Right so the way that I look at it it's one of two things either eight. You wore incentivizing employees to go and do this behavior or B you didn't have proper internal controls so he couldn't figure out what was going on neither one of those looks good. Well either way you're probably right knee but either way you're sitting there saying. Okay this should like either way you did something wrong as a company. Well now what you've done right is you've ticked off the 5000 employees fired there are adding that. Maybe they already felt like they'd been betrayed because they know. Did they were being pushed to. Do these illegal act that you forget 5000 potential whistle blower said well you you've got more Nat because the other 270000. Employees that he has are saying geez. This is the kind of guy worked for right and yet to dry and you know what they're doing their pad their files right now. There their they're looking for all their internal documentation. To protect themselves so now you're gonna have not only the 5000 employees fired during the last five years. The year gonna have 270005. Employees that are gonna start leaking things to regulators they're gonna go to the different regulators and I can just see this is going to be lined up. That you're gonna have secretaries of state and attorney generals across the country times fifty. Looking into Wells Fargo any state in which Wells Fargo does business they're gonna do. And an interrogation why is it's easy money they they can extort money at a Wells Fargo right now so you can Boettcher. Bottom dollar that the story for Wells Fargo is not over John stump I. A goal. This park track and I and I usually won't do this I don't think he survives this I think this the blow back from this event. Will end up costing John stump his job and it's it's it's CEO of worlds far. I won't go that far but I will agree with you and saying this is no nowhere near over they IA he just made terrible terrible mistake leader bank. By the way different bank the local community bank. They're the only bank in all of New England where you can buy gold. In the individual branches attorney walk in any branch if you remember what did you learn yesterday oddly Gilbert from Elliott wave woody tell you. This is a company trading pretty close to the bottom of its 52 week range curious if there's a company that you're bullish or bearish on at this point. Yeah and it's you're. Were ever bowl shocker you know a company that you know like instead of trading on that loan range now so let it if it was macro concerns across. The entire drug industries due to price seen concerns that the United States in the nose and a piece basting in. Prince it has a lot of exposure to United States and one of the concerns that we have seen with the drug group right now is. With all the rhetoric coming out of the president of campaign about controlling drug prices. Then this group is facing some headwinds there week in those concerns are overblown great opportunity. To increase exposure to the drug groups and he's one of the things we like within that space. That's senate if I'm correct they haven't made a big acquisition since I think 2011 when they picked up Genzyme is that right. Yet it traded at a few smaller things that it really developed a lot of ranch. On there balance sheep they really signaled a willingness to make major acquisition they were in. The running for the medication acquisition that Pfizer ended up getting for fourteen billion so likely that they're gonna make a significant acquisition over the next six to twelve months. And this is a company that right now it's got about a four and a quarter percent dividend that's covered pretty decently at least you know looks to be pretty stable here. How how strong is their track record of increasing dividends over time. Yes there than they've they have increased at an overtime opponent has been much. And some more significant increase is receiving near term earnings are gonna be relatively flat duties some pressure that it has. The diabetes franchise so I do think there's a stable dividend here close to yield up 4%. Our growth on the dividend and a growing too much over the next couple years. Let's turn over now to what you liability and other healthcare company another pharma company. This one a little bit more in the middle of its 52 week range. But his pulled back a little bit in the last month or so I'm guessing you're bullish on this company is well. Yet this correcting you on the politically the last couple and there are a few weeks here. As it really been because we concerns surround drug pricing again that I mentioned earlier I think another. Potential attractive entry point Lily there are. One really important primary event coming up. They're gonna have data on an alzheimer's drug which could really move the stock price I think consensus is that in this about a 40% chance the drug gets approved. We're closer to 50% we think there's more upside than downside wanting to beat countries have with Lilly. Is this binary event to probably happen sometime in November but beyond that strong pipeline. Good dividend yield. And the company that's growing much faster than its peers and probably isn't it in an evaluation for that. Is blowing also a company that has tended to grow by acquisition or they more internally based in terms of their growth strategy. They're great question directly internally based as a percentage of our sales. Argued about 24% the average is closer to 18%. To list and a lot more internally and do a lot less acquisitions nevertheless the duties some tuck in acquisitions. Very good of Amy thank you very much for joining us today. Damien Conover for Morningstar tickers on those two companies and if he has the ticker S and why Eli Lilly with a ticker LLY. The median household income this is the level at which half. And you know I've been talking to and on and off and saying. You know what they may be picking up some market share because this Sunday I sociology note issue. I I think apple is killing it. Z if you didn't know any better you'd think that Tim Cook. In Ohio in it demonstrates that Donald Trump has a 45 point lead in a very important state Ohio's. Probably one of the most important states in the country. Four election results if this race gets as tight as it seems to beach this volatility that we're experiencing is gonna get worse not better. In Wales or are we talking about factors that could lead to a significant price increase analyst one paragraph that lottery to track. Our commodity strategists. Estimate that most of the sell off in oil prices is behind us as they look for WTI. Oil prices. Two rallied 54 dollars per barrel by the end of this year. And by 269. Dollars per barrel by next June. That is quite an aggressive price range for the price of oil they're saying 54 by the end this year right now would you trade that the 44. Oh right now at 44 range after we look at oil today 4388. On west Texas intermediate. It's it's tough but you you've got a tough sell to try to get me convinced that oil is gonna be close to seventy by next June that's that's a tough putt for me this. We'll be very difficult the news. Projecting on the short term basis I think you're gonna just became I just looked at a gas report by the way this morning came out EIA came out. You know gasoline inventories were up I think 567. Thousand barrels. Edges just today in the cities a year still seeing a surplus of supply. Yeah. Lisa cancer. Is the president of a company called life is good and she joins us in studio right now you too can join us in studio. If you're a business owner we invite business owners indoor studios every Wednesday. To talk to them about the trials and tribulations of running a company well. Today it's a company like light is good and begs the question Lisa by the way welcome to show the possible closer to the Mike there there are so. What's talk about life is good I own your teachers at least thanks Angela got at least one that's what would his. McCain and never really thought about it somebody gave me teacher as a gift what is life is good at all about. And like his kid as a lifestyle brand we primarily sell apparel and accessories. And it's all of us spreading the power optimism using art and message to strip optimism movement and how long have you all been in this it's so like his get his founded piper and John 1990 Fuller who should have been around long time they have. Local guys from Needham. From Needham and and would. Inspired them to start this business NASA early on right after they graduated from college have both you know artists and very creative. They started designing T shirts and they went up and down the East Coast in a fan and I think they're really trying to avoid getting a job yup. And days in a hike and a little success early on they tried different designs get a college to arms go outside at Harvard Square. One day and they sell seizures shall T shirts on the street that's that they are trying to do. And they are attest that designs that they had with their friends and one day after and a listening to the news they felt. Everything's so negative ads as a flood of negative news on and we focus on the positive. And they designed. Character named Sheikh Egypt and Israel light is get under it and their friends responded very favorably to it went back out on the streets and in no time there is selling 122440. T shirts in the day which for them was it dramatic 60 yeah. And light is get took off from the Mac people of all ages all demographic responded to the positive messaging and that became the focus of the company now these two guys still involved in the company absolutely they you know heart and soul of the company. Bart is the CEO Albert. Right so weary headquarters we are ahead what they're right near south station announcer street will have an office in Hudson camps in how many employees the a total of a 140 employees rather evenly split between the Boston office and the New Hampshire why between the two locations knows most times company decides. We just had one location bar in New Hampshire is primarily a distribution center and warehouse so it's primarily customer service sent a mailing letters. There and more of the corporate functions in Boston so who are your customers use up as I've seen and correct me from wrong but I think that senior teacher. In stores like again happened in and other retail locations and yes so where we sell online at lake is at dot com we have about sixty genuine neighborhoods shops shops that are almost fully light as it across the last. And then we sell too well hold on the whole story is like this that show are you never sees no real so what do you what else do you sell them. So primarily. T shirts accessories Peron who is literally an accessory about accessory you an example union has banned. Baseball hats hats gloves outerwear. At Texas. And then we saw that thousands of points of distribution. Across the country so more small shops that are in a lot of resort locations scheme locations through airports that you're stuff all over the place and a bunch of stores in airports that's tracked Newton. So Whittier we're projecting for revenues this year with how much total sales deal. Chandler privately held company at where a hundred million dollar for. They don't get annual. I'm. In that ballpark though when you look at how this company has changed when did you first become law associated with them when did you first first start doing some work. Who hasn't really early on as the company started I joined the board twenty years ago of their life is get Kids Foundation. And it's an interesting stories as light is get the message got out there we started receiving. Letters from people facing adversity even a lot of them from kids kids facing cancer fit kids in the death of a lot line. And people are writing how a simple message lately is get inspired them and during difficult times so early on the company started to channel money to helping kids. Helping kids in need particularly kids facing poverty violence an ominous. So ads that started I joined as a board member I have it you know. Other fulltime job as a board member for their Kids Foundation noon and then about a year ago I joined as the head of marketing and recently took the position as president. Now how do you see things in terms of your role that you've taken on as president here. Does that mean I'm sure you're able to do more of with near certain aspects of the business is now role but he probably also have to give some things up north to do that. Well you give up you know that the head of marketing job that I had we are feeling that position. So that's great and so somebody will continue on with that vision and and really our goal is how can we spread I wording grow to as many optimists as possible. So money. My primary responsibility is on some of the growth and profitability now. How many employees or their from the early days of the company to people tend to stick around for awhile there there's definitely a lot of light for young people live in their tenor Maury years now some of the original partners are still working. In the business sound now we have some new people to and so it's again next how many owners. So at least you institute guys. What's the in terms of as the company's expanded what's been the biggest challenge that you face trying to. Grow the company but still maintain the core values. I think the biggest challenges it's maintaining the core values is rather easy spreading a power optimism and you know the power of positive that he is easy it's. Really identifying us so much opportunity where the big spots that we wanna go and that we find is a great market for example with parents. Plans are young kids is a great market for us at teachers. Are entering college so it's really focusing because optimism is so universal. How much business you do internationally. Very let I'll get primarily US and Canada is that something that you'd like to get into over the next few years. Absolutely that's definitely a priority over the next five years because we know the message resonates you know on a global level. How difficult is it to do business even just in the US state to state is different regulations different things that you have to follow do you have to deal with that waters just because you're based in a couple states don't have to do too much. We don't have to do too much you can land and that's not a factor yours or private company now which means that you know the two Brothers on the thing. And any discussions about taking it public or selling. Not and I think that these guys have been so committed to their vision and that over the years you know it. Been able to appease it self sustaining business and they dishonesty their mission as you know spreading optimism to his many people as. Possible is a mission statement. Yet to spread the power optimism pretty simple and instead it. So you talk more about the challenges. Unity and a 140 employees way. Somebody else puts him 240 Haddix. Non out of now. Anyone at the beautiful things about life as it is people are all their fair reason a lot of places you can mark and if you want to feel really good about what you're doing. This is a great place so there's not a lot of headaches when it comes to that everybody is so committed to the mission. That business. And you know in addition to Dick Clark Allen's spreading optimism 10% net profit goes to help kids. And so you're doing and I'm a good you know rights that people really feel that. It's a very unique place to lack integrate environmental benefits he would provide health insurance dental insurance and think that's important and I are definitely full benefits and it's it's even more than that his event and I think people feel for them and working on something something really again. Yeah yeah that that that definitely makes a difference if you if you're going to work in you feel like GM and helping other people. I'm making a living for myself. Bled at that the work that I am doing is is helping society. How did they pick the charity you mentioned there they're. The their primary focus is on children in pop or fame right in impoverished hamlets have. It's chilled at their helping children who are facing you know pretty big obstacles so. We are actually hands on non prop and might not pass through organizations and we can't be full staff of people out there working in the field. With schools at hospitals. With early and program gives us an example of the school or hospital whatever your more cups and I like we do a lot of work with headstart programs at boys and girls clubs and and what we're doing there it's Connelly is gay Kids Foundation but the primary program is a playmaker program. Where training childcare providers. We're working with the tenants moved so we provide them with an ability howdy used. Play and activities to help kids feel confident to help kids they'll esteem do it trained over 6000 child care professionals. That's fantastic that's that's going to be very gratifying it is great. Nancy you've been involved in the company almost from the beginning yep from the nonprofit standpoint and so. I find that there's very few companies have such a solid business machine and social mission and we don't view them separately. It will bring together in everything that we do so with your goal for the next five years. And we're looking to grow the company you wanna grow yes look into it to grow the company and really get out to different articles for people who haven't experienced link is get a Fuller and and we we have a very strong brand that we have a lot of program can website we do like is it that comments I website and you know selling online is a big part of what we do you. And it's also a hub far. You know we're not just a product company we have a lot of content which filmed a lot of stories of people who share letters with us over the years. And we use it as we call public optimism rights not just a commerce. Lisa thank you very much and that's Lisa tans or she is the president of life is good the website to check it out. The website is called life is good dot com I've got one teacher to could get one too. Yeah Ford CEO work co CEO mark fields said just a little while ago about half an hour ago. That they are going to be within the next two to three years moving all of their companies all Ford's small car production out of the US and to Mexico. Not going to be popular. Noticed it's not surprising I think the big goal for Ford is to keep I think the truck production. In the US since I think that obviously when he talked about one of the major reason why people buy a Ford or GM vehicle because it's made in the US I don't think they want to do this with their trucks just that the PGA mass exodus away from them. But I think with their small cars I think it's a different group is buying those I think they can probably. Get away with this without seeing too much of a drop in the percent. Let's talk about online sales I've been a big critic of Wal-Mart because I think they missed the boat. In terms of an opportunity. To compete with Amazon I thought that Wal-Mart and this is probably five or ten years ago I called them out I said. They are the only company they can compete with Amazon will they missed the vote in the evidence is mounting. Yeah it really isn't what you're seeing in particular. Amazon last year Leah captured 33%. Of online sales up 125% 2012 width that's it let's just think about that. For me the standpoint of quite an accomplishment. In 2012. There are still a lot of online shopping going yet write it but they had a quarter of the marketplace. Now the marketplace is much larger right people people now look to shop online and look to avoid going to the mall. In Amazon has a bigger slice of the bigger pie. You know what you're seeing every year and I think it was 2015. That out of every additional dollar that was spent on e-commerce about 52%. That went and is so that a bit they're just. Raking in dollars at this point one of the big things that you see is that the speed at which they deliver. Is simply better than anyone else now give you an example of this though. I have a a wedding coming right in the wedding is in it gets them I actually found somebody Tucker that is willing to marry will she doesn't know this yet. He hit only seven tolls or not she doesn't know this yet I'm obviously I'm planning this without her knowledge but so I had I'd get some some socks for my grooms and we're going to be wearing you know matching socks and I. And so I had to go on Amazon writes I'm sitting there it's 8 o'clock on Monday. And saying OK I and need to get this ordered 8 PM on Monday they were delivered by 7 AM on Tuesday. Well let me ask you guys you know your generation. Expects the buy everything on line for me it's it's a training process. How important is speed to you talk when you're buying something online in the truck had to get his socks I don't know that he needed them. In twelve I didn't I didn't if I did two day shipping and they still got there in twelve hours that's on things like that and bad. When you're making normal purchases like I bought. A fire stick. And I don't wait five days I was I was ticked off two days. Yeah I mean I guess I expects up and within two days and if it's not that I yet. You know pretty upset with whoever in order proxy that's the problem that other retailers and enhance the leaders know and he CV what. Here in that business wise to take five days well because here's the problem. Tucker if your prediction Bordick it nobody here Dick's Sporting Goods or if you're Wal-Mart trade Wal-Mart is so screwed up in the way they ship the extreme right. They they will. EEU water or something like bird seed. John Moody was Tommy's story is a nightmare it took you don't elect how letters from them so it was cat yeah that's it. It was like two and a half weeks and he finally ended up canceling the order but you've just got to go in that I dole I know that catlett is important stuff. But that's that an and once you have that kind of lead I don't know how anybody else compete with Amazon and mean it gets to the point chuck we save yourself. Are we looking at a company in five or ten years where the feds come in and break them up what is your eyes is Larry. Wouldn't be surprised now you know it's they they're getting to that that's a testament to their success. Not only child care subsidies for paid maternity leave he wants to make mandatory as well which. Really breaks with the Republican orthodoxy over the last several years. And something that they have pushed pretty hard and pretty strongly against. Now you have Donald Trump proposing it and the question I always come to with paid maternity leave. Is how would you. Allow smaller companies to do this without penalizing them for being small. And that's the problem is you know you look for her. An employer I can tell you Fidelity Investments. Good company. They give bear. Female employees early to get their mail pleased that their female place it sixteen weeks of paid maternity. Yet now they are very generous and they can do that because they've got you know 203040000. Employees whatever it is when you are right what he's Zeta-Jones plummet well exactly if you're running a shop in let's let's say you've just got you know retail out OK and you've got you know regular rotation you have someone who comes in and you know handles everything on the back and for it if you have. No one bookkeeper does everything and you have to pay that person and then bring someone else in there. That's the difference between Pena rent possibly so. I'm not opposed to the idea. How do you pay for a mandatory maternity leave Betty pay how do you pay for it not penalize small businesses that don't have the resource is the big Wednesday. SpaceX is back nearly they boo when they blow up that rocket last month about two weeks ago Rihanna and they're gonna come back in November a surprise but. To cut energy bills companies tap battery power what we've seen chuck. Is some of these big box retailers think about your JC Penney think about a company like best buy. They're buying these huge batteries in their storing them up at night they're charging those batters at night when electricity is cheap rate. And then they're using that battery during the peak. Hours win their use a lot of electricity in order is that it did try to buy it cheapens and use it when it's more expensive. And what they're finding JC Penney is found. That by using these in their stores exhibit 6000 dollars a year per store so you figure. But papers even 6000 dollars a year and we've got a hundred stores all of a sudden we get 600000 dollars that we didn't previously you know it starts to add up to real money there. You've got other companies Cargill who is involved and who processing and so forth. They put in a bunch of the that that Tesla power walls and when there beef processing plants they're saving about a 100000 dollars a year on energy becomes so it's all about the off peak. In peak yet it's not about storing solar power at least not yet. But it's it's about the the whole lomb you know buying cheaper at night. The thing that helps with is just helps. And again it's it's still as early stage of this not seeing this widespread right now but it also helps just with power companies having to manage their loaded with features you know instead of having to fire up a new plant in high demand where you sit there and say OK these. People have some power stored in the not gonna be calling us. You know saying hey we needed you know get something else going for while it and that it that that helps everybody. That saves a lot of money exactly is it's it's those extra point you gotta fire up those the ones where you're not paying eight cents a kilowatt hour now paying ten you're paying like thirty to forty cents a kilowatt hours sometimes in those auctions that are going on for the have you. They seem much advertising for question 41 way or the other zero. None and here you have a question for is a ballot initiative it's only on in Massachusetts this year but it's about marijuana. And recreational marijuana becoming legal in Massachusetts I haven't seen much on it one way or the other. There is not talking about it all is here's a story out of hers I guess it's a ballot initiative. In Arizona. But it big pharma company in Arizona is funding the initiative to stop the the wreck marijuana because it'll interfere with their drug sales. Yeah and they they have literally said and this is from their filing. Legalization of marijuana or non synthetic Canada noise in the United States could significantly limit the can commercial success of any of our product candidates like. They're pretty much coming out and saying well we wanna develop something similar so we wanna prevent this from ever coming to market as it is in its natural form. From what I gather I guess for people that are suffering. And going through things like chemotherapy and radiation yeah it creates knock. Right in Canada yes we used to call giving you the munchies right and her kids daisies smoke pot and people would get the munchies. Well now that that's a good thing Tucker went win when you're going through cancer treatment because you get the munchies after some marijuana. And I guess this drug company makes a product that gives you the month. The criteria and it's. Wrong. They just what it is it is it is. Rent seeking by company it just bothers me and it anyway it would change the subject you know. Tucker is been so intrigued by this burrito by drone story. That I actually found him a video of the burrito being delivered by a drone. What exciting stuff. The future is now I mean this is when you talked about you know where we are going in the future. The future is booked burritos. Falling out of the sky and in the video just beautiful I mean you see that it's it's not quite fall they're lowering the burrito down to you there. Tonight our own doesn't get. Real close. No the drone is still probably 2030 feet above you from what I can see in the video I kind of envisioned I mean what I really want to see eventually is you know the things just flying overhead and doesn't even stop injures drops a burrito out this guy with maybe a little parachute on it that. You know floats nicely down in the here and or something like yeah you think they're gonna. Trouble with. Drones. Being shot down or people thrown baseballs that and that's because of her like think about your your head on college campus packer right. And UC drone coming through the sky death and your hunger and your and you might you be tempted to throw you for is via yes especially if I've had a beer theory yes or the munchies now. I that I did something to. To war with Korea a couple people yesterday when you're talking about drone saying that he is there any use them for target practice. This could be good though I mean when you think about if people are you know get a little work out warm any are what you might see better athletes coming out of it because this actually now they're yell. Rate improve your baseball team. Yelp and trip advisor deem legal cover for negative reviews so I guess what's happened here. Is somebody will post. Negative review of a restaurant or hotel I think that's where most reviews corporate restaurants and hotels restaurants hotels maybe some mock two hours and things like that as well but generally restaurants and hotels the big ones and if you're restaurant can do a lot of damage to your brain. Reggie you go in and somebody comes silence as well in the bad service of the Neil was terrible I got food poisoning something like that. And the restaurants want the right to be able to sue. Yelp and trip trip advisor. Yeah and in particular you run into problems where people may. You know have a bad experience with the restaurant and all of a sudden they tell all their friends to write in bad reviews and things like that and you can find in some cases you know people can really move reviews either positively or negatively. And and they might not have even bigger there and. Some case I still would I go to look for restaurant poll look. I won't go to one in less three and four stars or more unless somebody told me about it they said oh we're going here tonight. But certainly don't do that that are you see three storage like what's wrong this place in May you click through a few of the reviews and but he it's being abused in I think is what some of the restaurant owners are saying is they're they're claiming. That. Competitors are giving them bad reviews and that's raw. It is and and what I would do what I would. Likely to what I'd like to see from these companies from a Yelp or from a trip advisor whatever there's got to be some way to get into recognized someone's actually been there or not. And they're not doing that they're not implementing that. Right now the Dow up 46 points I don't know how it's been and folks who market has been very tumultuous since last Friday. When thank you all for tuning into the financial exchange from our insurer match. Dot com studious.
