In new. This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chunks are now. You're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and sharks. Well hurricane her mean dropping a little bit of much needed rain in this is the best type of rain you can hit soft. Easy green it's not running off. And I don't know if you dug in your garden during the last few weeks but holy smokes they are rock things like dust out there that this rain. And you may not like it on Tuesday after Labor Day but I think yours and lawn is gonna love it. Hi everybody very Armstrong and chuck is autumn with you here. On the Tuesday after Labor Day and truck just moments ago. We got I use them. Non manufacturing data that came in at 51 point four for the month of August that's down. From 55 point five in July. Yet another sign the Mets and that the economy. Is slipping into recession. But it does seem to be decelerating. You look at some of the data that's coming out it's it demonstrates that. Yeah you have got a couple data points that you know again we got the eyes and manufacturing index last week. And this is another one that comes in a little bit below where expectations war. And I think it is curious to look at. You know where some of the biggest changes were in August compared to July. When you see you know some that some of the big things that you saw here. Biggest one that I see is a big decrease in the amount of new orders going from sixty point three down to 51 point four. Are still growing but at a much slower pace there. The other thing that came in here in this not really surprising. New export orders down from 55 point five to 46 point five export orders actually contracting this time. And in that really matches up with what we have seen. In recent months here and I'll tell you. Part of me and I was looking at this over the weekend and I don't know you saw the story of the threesome made the prime minister prom Britain there. Came out and in I've said this you know maybe a month and a half ago that seemed like she was trying to set the stage to back pedal whom will she is in full back panel mode on the brakes what did you say over the weekend came out of the weekends and breaks is going to cause significant impacts to the to the economy in the UK and all it is consistent with what everybody warned them and and also said. That there are likely going to be significant parts of the brakes that that do not happen because she doesn't know it's in the best interest of the you can now associate G isn't. Full back on it use hard core conservative and dedicated to it they never thought they would win. Yeah they came in without a plan. They said oh no one's ever gonna actually do this what you did and now you're kind of on the hook for what comes next it ended and arguably puts Germany in a pretty good position. Is it Germany can just keep saying and you said you wanted to leave. In a pack your bags yet it even though you start the season science fractured Germany's well now you know you saw a couple elections over the weekend. On the state level and Germany. That shows and weakening of support for Angela Merkel government. The speaking of Germany buyer. Has raised their offer to purchase Monsanto now. Color me skeptic but here's the deal V buyer has offered Monsanto a 127. Dollars and fifty cents per share. If the deal was really gonna happen. Monsanto shares would be trading at a 126 dollars per share and in fact the early trading at a 107 dollars per share so. In my corrected my interpretation of this correct in stating that this deal probably doesn't happen at 12750. No way it likely doesn't most analysts are projecting that in order to get a deal done you've got to get into that 135 to 140 range. So much that has come out and they say hey you know we're having some constructive talks weird you know we're making progress. But there's there's not the. This bad time for them to sell in the first place isn't Monsanto because the you know crop sir Ian bumper crops around the world. Food prices are down is just not help the environment if you're gonna have an auction for your company. You want it to be when there's tremendous demand for your product right now Monsanto's not in that position us months at the X demand is gonna get worse in the future right. Ray and as he that would be why they would sell 12750. Exactly that we go through the cycle. You know eat right now it's it's the perfect storm for Monsanto you've got bumper crops around the world coupled with low energy prices. Yep right. Really is so at this point yeah you can transport stuff wherever you want you've got surpluses in a lot of areas. That the winner that you don't really have a surplus and you talk about what's happened to like US agriculture movement you've got some problems they're discussed the drought in parts of the country yeah a California and so forth globally globally you've got. You know it food supply is is. Really peaking too. Plentiful plentiful and then other news this is a follow up to our story from last week. And I imagine you're going to school to carry your and rolled that ITT technical college paid your bill you're ready to go to school the doors are closed on. Close enough I TT tech closing up shop 8000 employees. Out of business as this one not to mention students how many students that are enrolled in and taking classes are being a 43000. They just shut their doors think about what you have to. Think about the process for trying to unwind that in deal with the that the Department of Education is that it's going to be a nightmare for. Well in in unity let's say you're halfway through technical degree and ITT. And you've got two semesters ago where do you transfer to what it who's gonna take transfer credit who's gonna take in the and you already are on the pop maybe you borrowed 151000 dollars already to go to college media be on the hook for that 151000 dollars. And me it raises a lot of questions and there are number of these schools located throughout the league. Lot of I would imagine you're going to see a lot of the loans for those people he can be forgiven waved and forgiven I guess he got to figure the deal we as effectively shattering the school movement. You know he can't say well we're sharing the school but you're still on the hook to. Pace. That's that's a that's a tough one to may not Iger grade just days if it's a tough position for everybody and then Volkswagen this news coming out. Either late last night this morning but Volkswagen. For some reason taking almost 20%. Stake. In Navistar NAFTA not familiar with now start to trucking company they build trucks yet but I think it's Smart move we do I do and it's the reason I think it's Smart is trucking industry seems to be donning the truck that was by a truck. That's when you wanna buy companies and think about it which would whenever a company or industry looks like it's in trouble that's when you want to make your investment into. You know I I like what they're doing here and there looking at an industry as far as they can afford trucking industry has been. That's a different point that's that that's a different question is is this the best allocation of capital for them but look you know this is no different from what you're going to see your Exxon Mobil's of the world do an energy that say look the energy industry Lotta companies going out of business really hurting right now time to buy it go win that. That is when you make your best investments is just like warm buffeted factor in the financial crisis what do you do. Gave a ton of money to bank ambulance and all the banks beam world come to an end. Warm it up pretty good on the. This particular. Truck company that truck has five billion dollars in debt. They do a lot of debt in there is small player there and number four player in the space. What makes me optimistic for them is one that Volkswagen's jumping in but also Carl Icahn he's no slouch he yields 20% this company. No and you figure Volkswagen the big thing that they're going to be able to do distribution is going to be huge for me talk rattled the markets there and in particular. You talk about what they've done in China where there one of the biggest manufacturers and biggest names in China. I think that's really what they want try to do is say they look Navistar we wanna take a lot of your business and here's an area that is still growing here's an area where you can get into. Let's see if we can really happen that Chinese market on a bigger. Would have to go to South America is it's got to be opportunity down there's got to be some you know. Are so anyway that's the the story vote if you owned shares in Navistar last I checked that the erupt almost 30% 58. 58%. Or 68% is Derrick there and then one other merger. Enbridge purchasing Spectra Energy. In a twenty billion dollar deal. This deal makes an awful lot assets this is going to be eight pipe line conglomerate. If it's allowed to go through this deal is huge win for. And virtually I'll tell you what Enbridge has really been expanding there their operations over the last couple years here. This company is becoming one of the biggest in pipelines at this point. You know really rivaling Samir other ones like you kinder Morgan's of the world out there not paying huge premium. No not paying huge premium for the company Spectra Energy only up about twelve I think maybe 13% on the news here. Specter by the way supplies a lot of New England beat there's a Specter pipeline that I believe runs from. Baltimore. Right up into a Boston. Yeah this is it this is a deal that makes a lot of sense for me. To me at least and and I think that you know both these companies that they're going to be able to work well together you're continuing to see consolidation in the pipeline industry. Makes makes a ton. Sense from my perspective right. Up next we're going to be joined by Jackie. CNBC I don't know if you saw the announcement came out yesterday and CNBC broke the news. That Russia and Saudi Arabia. Had entered into an oil contract agreement it is unclear to me as to what that agreement. Means. Oil prices right now are actually down 32 cents per barrel. But we'll be talking about the price of oil and what does this deal wit what is the nature of this deal between oil effort between Saudi Arabia. And Russia a lot of us don't understand it. Jackie. How all the upcoming election affect your finances and your business but no one here it's the financial exchange on the financial exchange radio network. Leader bank does tremendous amount of mortgage loans as a matter fact I've used them a couple times to refinance properties in the past. Jake how's the mortgage business these days it's been an extremely busy Barea. There are a lot of people buying Holmes. So that's kept the purchase market very very busy and on top of that racers to an all time lows so we've a lot of folks who are refinancing their homes either get a better rate or or some cash out because of properties appreciate it that's there's gonna ask how does somebody know where they should call to refine. Well you know. They're there's really 22 ways if they feel that the rate can be improved. Give history now and you know thirty year fixed racer all time lows. If you have anything in there in the 4% range frankly give us rate in my view do you something. Or if you need to take some cash and of your property wondered for a college tuition for kids or you guys have home equity lines of credit we have home equity lines of credit as well and the cool thing about that is. If you already had a green reader on your first mortgage you know home equity line of credit which will leave your first loan as it is allow you access the equity. Makes an awful lot of sense and you've got fifteen year fixed rate mortgages by your adjustable rate Mort all types and fleet week we have all types of that in addition to that were actually very active Jumbo and yourself. As properties have really appreciated in the markets in Massachusetts. There's been higher demand for Jumbo loans that we do a lot of that so last year Berry we are actually not the number two home purchase later Massachusetts. It for you congratulations. It was yesterday afternoon when I've received CNBC. Alert. It's at Russia and Saudi Arabia announced that they would work together to stabilize oil markets. I didn't understand what it meant. Then I still don't understand what needs today so we've gone to new York and we recruited Jackie the Angeles from CNBC to help us make senses I Jackie are you. Good morning you act and you're out thank you. I add in on a green earth explaining what I act or forward means and then to be a little bit of a broader church and the oil are. We don't know much about the agreement at that point you know after G-20 summit China. On Monday. Without need an election mean that joint statement. That they recognize that you can all expect volatility in the market. And that they're gonna Courtney and work together is that. But probably bad in that we really know what that means content that's not exactly and act in their country is quick action to stabilize and I either reading or. Cutting output at that point it means that there having a look at war an idea where it needed comfort station here. Talking about the market. Necessarily anything new. I happened then go on the war itself oddly in in June and the OPEC meeting fox. Thereafter and then fortunately those you. I'm in and they didn't produce any kind of agreement between the patent on OPEC producer and the OPEC producer. Which changed market I am. Black or Asian agree starting point when you look to stabilize a market. It's not that apparently. And a lot of people are looking at this day and saying. Expects record job owning up oil market crisis were to crack at 39 dollars. You weeks and now we're heading into the seasonally slow and weak period of oil remember. Last winter we went all the way down about 26 dollars a barrel. And back and he refused or are very worried about. That they can see that happening cat for a point to a lot of letter there are many statements like that but and not seen any action. I think all eyes are going to be yeah anarchy conference Algeria. And the amount back when OPEC members will get to gather. And potentially the app for our. And I'll also add that a lot of Gator Alley even a mile down the street the patent and it's not apparently. And tracked well in some ways because. They are producing at. The record level since that point though you read when you're predicting record level you're not met with our bench all out and that belief that the oil. But hopefully I can you look at them a better picture of what's going not consider how to read the headline. The market get buried by it but it argument that the apparently means there's not an air. Jackie how much oversupply. Do we have. Yeah because I've always said you know gosh if they if all these big OPEC countries and Russia jumped in and year you know everybody all the work together and they cut. Production by 5%. Then prices would probably go up 25%. Yeah you know it hit a four. Or I'd been at least right now. It's not about a lot that happened story straight Al. About how much in ample but we as well that it typical that article by early and it just like acts. I think you don't need the Audi and you also need the United States to be on board went on a hop producers in the world right now at all dynamic has really shall it be accurate but we get better here and really read Eric and he. They're out and found the right back in and that for the saudis and if you're while the US on it and bury app by the ordination is he. It's so so typical achieved because they're so many players were so many eating and. Now in Russia and Saudi Arabia go to Iran in Iraq and that have similar conversations of those two countries because those are big oil producers. And their massive oil producer and they're very important. And remember Iranians wanna get back the creek and a lot of about four million barrels a not quite close actually in the reach eight million barrel. I date range they're not gonna wanna properties in need air now that they're just ramping up and getting back in a market. Iraqi are all so anything to ramp up obviously at the country are late I have you know violent sport right now and so it's a little bit more volatile. I'm but everybody's looking to protect their market share everybody is balancing air project on oil I bet they need it revenues. Right there they're not going to be any one country that's OK look high up but back in you it while everybody else is so I'm not a. Very good Jacqui thanks for your time in clarification we appreciate it. Jackie De'Angelo CNBC. And I'm not sure we know any more today than we knew we could say egged it just seems struck that. You got a bunch of countries that don't like each other that are gonna continue. To cut their nose off and ordered to spite their face. Yet that this agreement is still very amorphous in terms of what they're actually going to be accomplished and they said we need to work together in order to you know tried you avoid spikes and dips and so forth. Well look it. That's all well and good but what you actually go to do and as Jackie said we don't know what they are going to do and in you still a lot of countries though they don't like each other. In the meantime though American consumers global consumers continue to benefit from the mean you look at the principal amounts to 44 dollar per barrel. And I end. You know as as I look through and I look at the amount of oversupply that exists. And the amount of inventory that exist and then you look at the gasoline supplies and then there's nothing in the cards. That I can say within the next seven months leads me to believe that prices are gonna increase now you could have a Black Swan event and that changes the whole picture. Yeah I mean that's that's the two things I think that. Potentially ship the picture away from forty to fifty dollar oil either blocks one event where all of a sudden you've got a major shipping rate disclosed all that you can't get oil in or out of the Middle East Middle Eastern war and then some magnitude departed world there. Nobody should be one. He Wear it Wear it to flavor scope and again it is not good over there but it's not shutting down oil. Some of them burning them you know and in the other thing obviously is if these countries have reduced say look we do one or stroke production that the one thing that potentially change that put. No appetite but you know so it's an until then I think your at least a year away from seeing prices naturally it's just that that. You've got to get that supply demand imbalance corrected. Trivia. Let's speculate on what apple is going to announce tomorrow I'll share what I've heard through the grapevine in and you guys can tell me what rumors you've heard. We've heard a lot about the wireless headphones right and I I I think you're gonna have the option for wireless. And plugin. And the plug in will also be where you plug in for your electricity bill mature than other gonna do that. We are not going to be able to do both the same time that's right right but you'll be able to still use plug in headphones if you don't like the wireless propriety. It's not necessarily going to be the same connector cable. Well so these different table the rumor is that if you look at your iPhone you've got what's called the lightning cable which is what you charged with yes the rumors that that's what they're going to be switching the wired headphones over to know that some heavier cable. Different cape. It is thicker. It but you touched picker I don't know that it's the cable that needs to be here just for power that needs to be there. But it's going to the big things that helps you save space they could go. More battery so it that was the other thing we heard great bigger and better battery yup. And then the I heard that the camera is going to be slightly better. And have liked different type of folks who think this for every phone camera slightly better yet. Good point Tucker you know good point. That would eventually like you look at what pictures were taken like five years ago or at its latest it is incremental adds up in that case I think you're also probably gonna see some additional lot info on the apple watch in on potential functionality between apple watch and the new iPhone so I think that's something that you can see waterproof. Any murmurs I thought I heard it's been in any more water resistant it's it's been mixed I don't think it's going to be true waterproof phone at this point but I think you may have some additional water resistance which is obviously good appear anything like I am. You're likely going to have a new version of IOS the operating system that is announced but probably not ruled out for another three to four weeks if that happens even if you keep your old life and yes but. Usually they have a couple features in that that are exclusive to the new phone so there's some clergy to buy an upgrade what it's just things that you can't use with the old hardware from whatever city nice thing knowing what it is there anything else in the rumor mill. Be on the phones. Not on this when there's a lot of chatter about next years phone already sale that's really going to be the big upgrade to do next year's the ten year anniversary of the first iphone's there's a lot of chatter that. Heard that after them to talk and last year it would be worth upgrading they're all next year 2016. Is going to be terrific. Yeah I mean I feel like they're kind of hold out everything for the winner of the Big Ten year anniversary of the iPhone OK maybe you know. Big launch that by I mean every year you know which is like. Slightly better and you know a couple minor improvements here and there. I don't know I think this might be a slow their lowest selling iPhone. I think so. Vick get a boost from missile Samsung the high life that I was gonna bring that up by acting. Samsung. The apple gift last week when they started selling exploding phones. It is a tree and how do you got a new the new Samsung for just plug it radian ourselves able to. Just keep it right next year head while you are now charging it you know darn thing exploded it but they explode Petra. What I love is that Samsung tries to explain this whole thing they say and I quote a minor flaw in the battery manufacturing process is what caused Japanese company by the way that makes better. It's double Sampson made. Well the the pace a bit out though to this company. With the called. Hong Kong based emperor acts technology unit of Japanese electronics partner. Partsmaker TDK. Is involved in it and I think. It sounds like they get their batteries from a multitude of sources. Apple very quick to come out and save or to cut this announcement yeah apple saint yet wheat legal why are batters from them. Again if if apple were Smart and I and honestly I don't think they'll do this is I think Tim Cook is a far more upstanding individual than what I wanted to do here but if they were Smart though you know how would normally for these kinds of events you have kind of pyrotechnics and everything they've got the laser show and all that that kicks off. What I'd like to see is just a wall Samsung phones in front of the stage and manages all go up in smoke and Tim Cook walks out. Yeah that's that's creates bad karma and he won't do it all right up the middle because it'll what. You don't know when Apple's gonna have a major product. Problem with one of their properly and you know they have I mean you can go back to the initial roll out of apple maps you remember how much of the disaster that was for them you know they didn't explode. No they didn't exploding is new. But it's a new thing you remember they had I think it was it was the five of the six were people were initially saying that their phones were bending yeah I think there was a five who experiment worked yeah it was you know people were saying it's true though because I had one of those bulbs big guy who's the analysis a loss I don't outstanding and I had one for two years and I think has. Yeah so it's you know there's there's always going to be something so Tim Cook won't duel but if you wanted to go full WW EU on and that's that's how you do it. The that's costing Samsung an awful lot of money. And money that they can look forward but the only thing you're talking billions of dollars to be north of a billion dollars for Samsung. What's interesting is Sampson never been able to really make significantly profitable phones they've been very competitive with apple in terms the products they put out and make about a hundred dollar per phone winners apples like 300 Apple's margins. It's like yeah 300 I think the the margins are around 340 phone for apple but significantly lower for Sampson that is and it's just all of his electronic components. I don't know enough about it to be able to say it's. Mean I know apple has pricing power in and there's tremendous demand I mean in the old days if you wanted to buy a new generation iPhone he had to wait in line. You know EU. It was like and and you know all of the news crews would be there as the line structure around the block number. When the other thing to keep in mind and I say this is someone who uses an iPhone the technology and iPhone is usually slightly worse than he seemed competing android device so. They're selling a yes slightly worse phone it's not the most people can't notice but. It's a slightly worse phone now wholly apart a little more. If if there if that or in the case. Why would people be you know still switching over iPhone because people don't always buy the best products if you look backing go back to 1980. VHS version beta Max and beta was better product be it just one now. You know it's it. People don't always choose the best product for they choose what they think is the best product red notices that a lot of android users though is there constantly dealing with a great deal by my dad has an android. Does it then and only one of my voice has won. There are always complaining this doesn't worker Broken Arrow there on the phone service. You say you want is it relates to apple and a lot of people don't like the company. They're never had a problem problem that apple product. No it's like I think in the others but I dropped the best out there in terms of you know true technical issues in the thing just completely dying and you know I've been through two Macs have been through two iphones and iPad. I've been a problem and you usually user error. Cause yeah usually when I drop it in the toilet or something it doesn't react well but last week when the Samsung story broke wind every Thursday Friday. All parked there yes somewhere around since then. Apple has increased their orders from their suppliers they and that's leaking out there's news. That. Unity they've gone all their parts suppliers and increased there're projected demand because I think I I do believe that. People who may have said he had a by Samsung product this time or they bought and say hey I just want my money. Just gimme my money back about if if I were apple specially if you have to wait two weeks. I'm not often in favor of discounts but if I were apple this is a time where I start rolling out some discounts because you get those people in and you get. You always study courses get him in there and then you know two years are up and say you know what. I'm gonna buy another one of these and you know the discount can be well worth it if you wind up requiring customers that's going to be with you for the next ten years and that. What tends to happen via. The different genes that Roger Moore played James Bond Sean Connery. Pierce Brosnan Daniel Craig Timothy Dalton in George last and he. Play James on nine George only did one movie Timothy Dalton did too. Out of those six genes bond actors who's your favorite Daniel Craig. Game Craig yet he's really really good at being keeps on electors bras. Roger Moore was funny Roger word as my generation ago Connor Connor. Well they're trying to re up Daniel Craig they offered him 150. Million pounds. But he's got to do two more war. And James Bond 200 million dollars. Not a not a bad way to spend you know a couple years he's not doing. As he officially turned them down. Light on numerous occasions he has said quote I can find where he senate rather slow virus. Not a bet that's recessed now. He had he had told people after shooting that this would be his final outing. Betty they thought they could resigning with the money was right they've been trying to resize it in this is not something new. But he said he would rather slit his wrists and endure another outing as broad. Yet the Taylor turned down sixty million pounds. I wonder who they would name is beyond the next bond this. Really no good candidates out there and that's what wanting a crowd so much wow they say that every time they this is different things they didn't they make in getting right they said that about Daniel Craig to. Q what was he gained Horry was like the third choice actually. But what was he before he became James Moore who's somewhat well not somewhat well known actor you rule was as famous as it was today yeah I used they in the UK. But that in the US not as much yet creek you get a couple good movie suited. Layer cake I don't know watch that or watched road to perdition no. OK can't help that he's done that's good iron off movie scenario Creighton has done the three. Roger mores in first place with seven he's Sean Connery did six. I think the interest of forthcoming for only via. News stories things going to the casino or Al quad muscle us and it's got all sky all good news stories wrong and that they wanted to do two more. 150 pounds sounds like he's gonna turn a double we'll find out. Become a member of Barry's brigade at the all new financial exchange showed John come get the business and financial information when you want didn't sign up today I financial exchange Joseph Johns come. It is time for a stop talking we're joined by him you were from the Motley Fool. We certainly are Jim thank you very much for joining us today. Good morning Ari. Jim we're doing well we've got a couple stocks that people were pretty familiar with at least in terms of the names you let's start off first with Starbucks this is a company. That you know really for the last five years has pretty much hit on everything but the last year's so. Stock prices languished a little bit is this company that you are bullish on at this point or bearish tone. I am bullish on this company for a couple of reasons primarily its growth opportunities. I got pretty much leveled out here in the US but still a lot of growth left and China and Asia Pacific region Princeton's. And what it's going and tours recordings and his that he intrigued stuff. And the other big area of growth and high and I margins for the company. In China France and has like 2000. Course that kind of like a lot scattered over a hundred cities. But that's like only twenty locations in all of lost. On average though and country has noticed carpet from Boston sometimes 1000001 block horrific. And then and so that. It has thirteen thousand stores in the US and so the difference between 2000 circuit thousand as is huge and on and allows. Should allow. So we years of growth of over there. And then this the channel development. Segment where the coffee beans those that combines supermarkets and convenience stores. That only provide about 10% of revenue but it provides a about a quarter of the company's operating profit for the company is focused on growing that has been crowing that about 2% a year for the past five years and so that's another region. Of the company to look for growth. One as this stock price it flattened out over the last years so they've they've showed strong earnings growth they're still grow revenue by Arab League about 25% year over year with what's the reason why the stock hasn't performed. Probably because of gun a little bit expensive and as for the market the markets as litigant that they're for awhile and kind of catch. Catch its breath catch up to it. In terms of where this company faces competition right now is there anyone who's really. Getting into this space I mean it it doesn't seem like they have any true competitors at this point at the price point that are. Not a not a large public companies known how to at all other competitors more Alex small. Mom and pop shops or. Other popular as we can buy coffee but. Shall have done a really good job the CO. Who don't really good job of growing this company and being pretty much the dominant force. Copy shops. That would Jim Mueller from the Molly pulled Jim let's talk a little bit about Anheuser-Busch InBev. This company has pretty much been on a roll over the last year up about 41% over the last twelve months here last five years much like we've seen from Starbucks. Performing very strongly as well. But a little bit flat when you look at it on the last two years we're ready right this company going here especially with the in I guess the craft Beers space where they're facing a lot of competition. Right Lola with Starbucks at export growth story with blood. Anheuser-Busch. It's more of a dividend investment and more stability plea for portfolio. I don't expect the stock price to. Be on a terror anytime soon. If it's not pretty here are two years that's. I'm Miami. What I'm after years what is it is the largest beer company in the world has over nineteen brand could generate a billion dollars in revenue a year. I know has over 200 brands worldwide. So to become even bigger when it's joins forces with SABMiller. And but pistol. Even though the volume of beer growth in the world is very low. Like 3% annually for the past five years. Companies still managing to generate. Revenue growth at our expert from the year operating profit 8% year has a bit of pricing power remote. Can the characteristic to it I really like the 3% dividend that that pain right now. Very good Jim appreciate you joining us today thank you Jim Mueller from the Motley full pickers on these two companies Starbucks is SB UX. Anheuser-Busch InBev is beauty. Fox just announced that they had settled we Gretchen Carlson over Roger male sex harassment claims. A person briefed on the settlement said. That it was twenty the amounted to twenty million dollars in that mr. Ailes shot. Was responsible. For a portion of that payment for foods said that Fox News was in settlement talks with other women plural. At the network as well hi everybody Barry Armstrong and chuck is out of the story. Just breaking out of Fox News. Yet that's forty million dollar settlement up pretty significant you know that's not a small chunk of change here and it's not something. That suggests that Roger. Really just wanted to kind of put this. Behind even be able to move on at this. Point and there's an admission of guilt. Fox saying there is we sincerely regret and apologize for the fact that Gretchen was not treated with the respect and dignity. That she and all of our colleagues deserve highly unusual. For the company come out usually is in effect the have a gag order rate that says hey. It will give you twenty million dollars a year to sign in non disparagement agreement that there must have been some stuff in here that wasn't even made public then you know you know and it it must not have been pretty additionally Fox News abruptly announced. Just minutes after. That. The settlement of this is Carlton is Carlson. That Greta Van Susteren one of the network's most recognizable. Talents has left this is susteren. Have been with Fox News for fourteen years I remember when shoes with CNN yup. And her departure is effectively effective immediately Brit Hume will take over her tech 7 PM time slot on Tuesday night. And then they got to. Gratis husband. And not sure he was supposed to spill the beans that her husband's a fellow named John. And he did a phone interview this morning. And he said that his wife exercised. What is known as a key man clause on Friday so she did this this last week or speaking of Greta Van Susteren. That allowed her to leave if mr. Ailes was not in control he also said there's so much chaos it's very hard to work at box. Guy goes on to say this is again the husband of Greta Van Susteren. There's more than meets the guy and there might be litigation in the future so I wonder. If Greta Van Susteren also has a claim against Roger. I don't I don't know but I can tell you it you know it you're going to see further people exiting fox. You know it's anytime someone who is as instrumental to a company is Roger Ailes was ends up leaving now you're going to see more people having. The door we we'll certainly find out. Yet day you don't normally you'd start off the show with a conversation about our markets and you know today's no different than it. Gave that that was a pretty big story. Right now markets across the board met with the mixed bag is an. Yeah I mean you get Dow down about twenty points the NASDAQ is up about five S and -- down about 210 year treasury one point 56 really in the same spot it's been four. An awful long time now one thing that is interesting pound is starting to strengthen again with an up to pounds of the 134 against the dollar bill hitting pounds to 134 against the dollar. So may be Yuri it earlier in the show folks chuck had said. That Great Britain will not leave the European Union at least that's what Teresa names telegraph she is she is backpedaling as hard as possible from Greg's right now I'm fighting that is she taking pressure home isn't it it's going to be busy it's gonna be CEOs of companies. Coming to Hirsch and listen lady. If you wanna get reelected or if you have any future at all do we tell you to do. I just don't think anyone actually realized what it meant to leave the EU. Yes it's it's nice to talk about until all of a sudden you lose now that you're you're you have to redo everything. I got I don't think people understood how intertwined the UK is with the EU at this point and to. To back out there that works you know look it's it's one thing to say I'm very has been this divorce for an. And the data plan like it's it's been what three months now almost totally deforested have a plan. Boris doesn't really strike me as the kind of guy that's got a good plan letter you know he doesn't strike me as a planners is not how it comes across. Crude oil trading up at 4505. We have a whole question of the day in. Basically our poll question of the day emanated from the alleged agreement between Saudi Arabia and Russia. To do what. Two. Whatever is best. At this pick they're going to do something at some point regarding anything may be potentially yeah. Tucker what the result of our polls though aren't out of people participated poll question. Yet they simply go to financial exchange showed dot com and click on the via either yes or no on our poll question and the question is. Do you think Russia and Saudi Arabia will be successful in raising oil prices and so far the poll. Is 63%. No and 36% yes. There you have it Smith & Wesson stock. Talk about that the lesson they're based in Massachusetts of course and they're stock in their profits. Now they are benefiting. From Hillary Clinton lead in the polls. Yes midwest now reported on September 1 a 40% jump in sales and a doubling of profit for the first quarter of their fiscal year here. Stock actually moved down a little bit on that news just because it wasn't quite as strong as people were expecting but I'll tell you you know this is a company. That over the last year year to date up about 26%. Over the last twelve months of about 52%. You know this company really. For whatever reason whether it is you know due to be the thought that you could have a Hillary Clinton presidency whether it just do. You know that's what the speculation struck the speculation on Wall Street is that Hillary's gonna be tough on guns. And you know the NRA is spending a lot of money to go laughter. That that's the speculation is that it's because of Hillary. Yeah I I don't really apply to Alaska and I see it more just people being nervous about what's going on then you know I think again people you you can't. Just get rid of guns it's got to go through congress last time I checked congress is controlled by Republicans so it's it's a pretty big move to us. I don't know I I think it's more related just current events then. A potential Clinton presidency comes out a lot of states rights to do. In a lot of our guys a gun controls largely controlled by the local communities and states. When I mean there's very you you've seen as I try to go out Austin by them. Yep it's a good it is it is a very local. Local phenomenon. Now I anyway their stock price up of course and then Toyota. It you know hot Toyota and Honda were the first companies to come out with highly fuel efficient cars. I think the mated in hot Honda first came out with first hybrid truck that Toyota has kind of mastered the market with a Toyota Prius good looking new car by the way to look at here in new models. They can't give more. Yeah they've seen 826%. Decline in Prius sales through August of this year big reason. Gas prices are at a time when gas prices are lower people do not feel the incentive and feel the need. To move towards a new fewer or more fuel efficient vehicle we've seen that across the board in terms of the car sales that we have seen this year what's been surging ahead. As runs into our suvs minivans for some reason who was buying all these mini van. Sleep you know eventually you guys who have kids in late minivans are terrific for young families they really are. Is yet so much junk to store. Right when you wanna make a road trip for the weekend. You wouldn't believe how much stuff you have to transport the minivan sales are up 23%. For the I'm not a surprise there's a baby boom going but that's a whole lot immediately different 400000 minivans sold at get weekly that's a lot of mini me the births through the country unity they keep you probably get silly but I I have the I I think there's a Burke baby boom going on here I wouldn't be surprised me you just. In my immediate family you know first cousins and 197 BBC. If I look like conversions and numbers like the big large fans that seems like fourteen people know faintly buys those those are up 16% like who buying who goes out and says I'm gonna buy conversions. Well big. Thing is think about those are sales that are up because people are feeling better about the economy. Right yeah they're they're saying hey we we need this. Bankrate dot com recently conducted a study. That identified the best and the worst metropolitan areas all across the country. For homeowners who were joined by Claussen bell from Bankrate dot com to discuss that study right now I costs are you. Under gray area got so what was the basis. For your studies in other you came out with a list of fifty cities. Across the United States some of which were great places to live and others which are not so great. What was the basis how did you conduct the study. We took data from a lot of different sources. Sort of like realty track National Association of Realtors. On the and then we we used it kind of to compare that the cities across a number of different categories so we looked at things like affordability. You know maintenance cost. Cost. You know appreciation part of our outgoing happen Dario we sort of took all that and I'll put it together to come up with a ranking. Yeah I noticed you include things like property insurance property tax. Energy costs. For closure is ranked hedging what what is ranked hedging. Don't biggest benefits for homeowners on the a lot of markets of of owning is that they lock and there are open they don't have to worry about. And rising in the area because. There you know hopefully fixed mortgage rate and you know fixed mortgage payment or may in the saint. So that that has more value in some markets and others you know for example in New York that's incredibly valuable don't have that ability to hedge against round. That's a big reason why many people are there. I'm another market that's just not going to be invaluable because rents aren't going up as quickly. It so some of the good cities to live in new include. Portland. Washington Portland organ. Vancouver. Hillsborough organ. Phoenix is a good place to live Atlanta. Vegas in Minneapolis those of the top five according do you study correct. Yeah I mean Tom you know we wanted that draws a distinction here that you know. Just because the plate is rock on homeowners and mean it about Bristol and in fact a lot to be back opposite. You look at what it's like they're Disco where a lot of people want to let. Net driven up home prices and made portability and issue itself it's Roberts earlier places that the livid that they at a place. You know it makes it harder to have sustainable homeownership. So widest Hartford Connecticut dosed do so poorly received their ranked number fifty out of fifty. You know that there are a number of issues. So that price depreciation just hasn't been there. You know owning a home and harper just hadn't. It is rewarding as it has been and other markets on their part property taxes higher energy costs. So there's the number of things there that that makes you know homeownership not just a little harder to Spain in terms of cost but also not as rewarding as it is another place. Tack Providence, Rhode Island war exceed its number 48. And I think of both of those markets Providence and Hartford is being pretty affordable in terms of the first time home buyer being able to buy a house. You know Hartford armed you know before the leaders opened up our armed Providence. A little bit less so there in the bottom half in terms of affordability of this city that we looked at. So you know that they're in their number of issues. Apartments. Has it hired me and it cost or places so you know it it's really it in all it is it's a combination of factors. It and what does Boston crowd how did they there in the study. So Boston bomb was actually our our bottom and as well. You know that they're a basically came and it they had our number eight. And the remarkable thing the post and I mean obviously I think anyone who lives in boxing could tell you that affordability has been an issue there should. You know it's gonna take a large percentage of the average income to build for a call. Come out of our energy cost. There are property taxes in Massachusetts general. Com so. And you know an app market particular and also higher insurance costs they put that altogether but it makes it difficult to to. Vote McCain homeownership to get there and to sustain and keep the color. It costs thank you very much for your time we appreciate it. I. Northeast just talked to buy a home northeast. Of the vital what you have when it's great. But she's getting in it's it's it's tough to I want what do you hear from your peers you you and Tucker are you know most of my generation. If they're gonna buy a home they've already bought one they might be on their fourth home might be on the tenth home. What do you hear from your generation between your. Al playing soccer when you're Tucker when your plane fantasy football with your buddies. Would it when they tally about buying a home isn't something that they want to do or is it something they just priced out of that market. I checked. I think it's a mixed bag I think there are. Some people that in the next three to five years want to buy one I think there are awful lot of people that are happy just ranting and don't wanna be tied down. Yeah yeah they don't wanna still it's an age thing it's a lifestyle issue. I don't know it's something they're gonna grow out of as for as for me all my friends are 47 when he 29 narrow range. And they're all renting. I know one Koppel is looking to get a house they just had a baby last week. They rented goalie that your your friends that are renting truck just said that a lot of his friends they just like. Yeah it's a combination what I hear from bite my daughters and kids injuries the sick of moving here to. You know again they just all I have one of my daughter's girlfriend bought a place that said I just didn't want change and boom she hates move. Yeah I think they're there certainly are some people like that but you know I see an awful lot of people I know and again I I. Yeah I've been pretty wide circle that I talk to about these kinds of things you know there's there's some that have moved in to places that finally owned them but. I see an awful lot of people that don't want to necessarily. Give up the mobility that renting a forged them. Well that's what you give up as a talker I mean you give up the EU by a place and then all of a sudden job your dream job comes available in Vegas earned ye it's hard for you to leave the community. Right exactly connected to even harder as you had children and if they I remember being faced with that situation. Mid career and all you know I was gonna have to pull my kids high school and things like that Norris take a job. And you know it just it really weighs on the decision making process are we in Europe when you're in that position. Well and if we have marijuana will passing right then that's what they're going to be used for a well service entries in the service entries. Com trade software. Opens its first US office. In Boston Massachusetts I bring the story up because it just seems. Like we're reporting. Time after time about major companies last week it was IBM opening an office with 700 scientists that they're trying to recruit. And GE moving here I mean their hiring people hand over fist now come trade coming for the very same reason. Yeah and what's interesting about Tom trade is that they actually chose Boston over a Silicon Valley office. Simply because they said look we don't need all of the of the prestige of the valley we feel we can get better talent. At better prices. And it time zone and in the efficiently. Now operate in Boston because it's a much closer Iraq time zone then what you do with on the west course. The Slovenian company and they say days it's I guess it's a six hour time difference. Between here in Slovenia wears is B nine hours. Which basically means. Your never working at the same time no hear what you least get some kind of overlap in your days or three hours a day where you overlap you're able to coordinate some people on both of both the comments a little bit more. But it's I just keep seeing story after story. I wish we are seeing similar stories. In other New England cities like. Manchester, New Hampshire Worcester Massachusetts Springfield Massachusetts. Hartford Connecticut New Haven, Connecticut Providence, Rhode Island it seems to be focused and concentrated in Boston. It does even though. In Rhode Island you are seeing more going on now we've talked about Amazon building that facility down there now obviously not quite at the same caliber of job you know it is. It isn't but I think. The region as a whole is going to see a boost from this but it's gonna be much more easily. For combined dollar amount of one point four billion dollar in polite to me it couldn't understand why he can't. And no one. Big thing they're trying to do 3-D printing for those view aren't familiar with that it is a way that you were able that companies are able to build. Different objects in devices through what's called an additive process instead of by a productive and productive one you start with that you know piece of copper. And he pretty much gave it away or you mold it and you get what you want what you do with three printing is you start with nothing. And you pretty much add layers of copper and and so for the layers of copper really until you end up with what you want there's so same in. Different process right. The theory is that as you refine the process for three printing it eight is much smaller much more compact so much more mobile seeking to these devices around the whole lot more supposed to be perfect. It's much more precise because you can tell exactly what the point where. And in theory it should all have become cheaper than traditional manufacturing overtime. It has none of those three things at this point it's more expensive it's bigger and it's it's much more complicated because the precision is not there. At the moment. What GE is doing though. Is that pretty much make this as an investment saying look this is where we want to Beagle in the next 510 years and they really want to use this for things like jet engines for out of there heavy machinery. To try to see if they can figure out improved ways. To build this out will cost that's really what they're trying to do so they're put their money where their lose one point four billion dollars not a small chunk of change here and autism market and is something that look you're not gonna see anything from this probably I would guess for between four and six years how long we've been talked about 3-D printing five years on a time. And I don't like forever no but I think if it's it's a relatively new Phnom the first time that I really sought talked about as you know something that was going to become the the next big thing was probably. A way to nine and really revved up again about five years ago as he said maybe 2002000. Now a lot of these companies better have good technology are being acquired in G course taking out to them he engine shipping we talked about this one last week. The this is a real problem for many manufacturers. Because they wanna get their goods to the United States and around the globe out of Asia. And one of the world's largest shipping companies has fallen into bankruptcy. If you literally have goods on ships that are either stuck and Porter just that the middle seat like TDs in and they can't get them off the ship that they can't get him off the ship and so the the parent company called him engine group. Is saying OK we'll give you ninety million dollars and really to subsidize you just somehow get these goods off the ships. I don't know that's enough. You know we do know is the cost of shipping has gone up dramatically. He of one company I think engine controls about what seven or 8% of the global market they're big gap but it there's a lot of players really matters is the biggest one. But he engine you know a very substantial player. In global shipping. You take them out of the equation. In shipping costs it was like like one of those big containers were those sixty foot long container forty forget the exact size it's it's something in that ballpark via the they used to cost about like 700 bucks to ship. Now there up to 2300. That's out fast. The price goes up we take out 7% of the supply. Yet those those containers by the way they are. Let's see action it was easier containers the issue Marty violent. Forty what you saw him on the highways to America's economic track that -- the odd intermodal containers forty feet long nine foot six in in. Quite as well as with her eight foot six and west aren't so they also been on trains dipper they fit on a train platform that and on the truck. And they get shipped all of the country expansion. Is in trouble one in and some of these ships keep in mind. You know you talk about the size these people don't realize that the big ships your Panamax ships and so forth. We talk matchups that are carrying 8000 of these you know needs to sound like they've got ten of them on there you're talking about thousands of these 48 foot containers that are. It be interesting to see if it disrupts the supply chain at Christmas. And that was an interesting question I hadn't even ought to think about what you might say on goal and by the Stanley B flat screen you Mena that would if prices you start seeing prices rising because this and so force prices rise or just. Inability to get users there is seen in the past with previous commemorated the dip you know usually pertains to gifts for kids. You know narrowed a ninja turtles are a shortage one year and he couldn't get the ninja turtles. Blues have been baby you're open to listeners be babies dvds you know very. For member of that chuck I remembered for humor the Tom got geez I yes of course. Get ready. Get ready for a five to 10%. Stock market drop. On our pain. Unity to work our viewing but on the other end. Impression is that the U get. A sense of what people think again that choose to however just looking at that that's why. A religious or at the numbers if you look at any senator Reid coaches agents and critics. The outrage is. By the age pretty pretty strong bullish bullish. About it. Well we've seen Michael for the last five years anyway is people sell their stocks and you'll get a correction of 510. I think in eleven we had a correction of 22%. But investors immediately come back in position alternative. East sell your stocks in the the minis sell them you're saying uh oh what am I gonna do now because I'm making innate negative rate of return sitting in cash. Yeah you know that's about these correction it is that I don't that can happen like save that a lot of look at that. Happened before correction happening now and you know. I can I can be wrong snapper several on and happened to getting the timing related crime and I think the important thing here's that. Think it's being inning of the year Arctic to a few that medium. Here's. Trying to board correction. Or that there may occur but you know science fair that. We. Well he'll let let's talk about the election I mean I I I I saw CNN poll. They showed that Donald Trump had a one point lead right over. Unions on an old doubts about that rescues and India late I'm. Back at you. That's changed. The campaign yet mr. eat up at. Some. There's probably going to be. Or some thing app and I'm not a partisan however app. That. When it changes hour that that can be party back and be marked to market expect. To change. Uncertainties that day. That people and so so that's something. But I am not. That's L. On September October. The irons and corrections. And other indicating ears that the media were pretty and that's debatable the letter and so. People should be at these complacency. Joint complacent and in fact kind of situation. You know. Some bad news. Goal really hurt workers. In. Interest too good mood and ready for. And insiders also. Sits. Well and that's a what I wanted to talk to you about insider selling is rampant and you know when I talked to my associates about a safety you know jet bases to sold about his soccer Tim Cook to sold about his stock and they'll play it off in the sale there they sell the stock all the time and it's part of something they enter. 510 years ago but. You know like you sell insider stock when your Mark Zuckerberg Jeff days those are Tim Cook. Your pain in what 30% tax write off the so you're willing to take a 30% haircut in order to sell that stock. I I've always looked at insider selling as being a big negative. The key with it is that you apps you'd create reach. Selling to buying bad that we. Good ministers these expects skip eight stock and so on collective pay base. And so. So you had sort of ratio and you know there are creatures now such that the outselling all fine it is. Historically. Pretty now well on jets or outside in stock market. Bernie indicators are sure bet they were. Terrorists but when you put a bunch up together which now talk so. Did the you wrote this story before we had the jobs announcement on Friday. And you you know you mentioned that low interest rate fears could return. I think those fears are probably greatly diminished after the jobs report Friday. You know it does not only great it was terrible but it you accept our. Point out. That that's great. Also questions about where. About eight couples productivity and a lot of data that are on the economy you know court. But I recruit he had a judge or does it back into history. That's true. These figures any risk of this correction being more than 10%. I don't who really aren't stuck to make sure but I don't think so and I think to reach a point down. Horrible disaster and the reason is that I just don't see your section. Part. Into session that's ultimately of course they're. Very good Michael Rusch thanks for joining us. As Michael Rusch from marketwatch.com. And brush up on stocks dot com and you know a correction wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Well look historically you get 810% correction every eighteen months we haven't had a twenty since eleven. We came close this year writing this year we came Wednesday January February I believe the last 20% one was back in eleven historically get one of those I think it's every three of four years so I kind of in that rev range also. I I still come back to and and you know I've talked to clients about this I've talked to my friends about this in the sale of stocks are overpriced so it was Sully starts. Then knew where do you go up you know woody getting for a dividend yielding to dividend yield on the S&P 500. And the open throughout 2%. Right in the ten year treasury note yield would you say that was 16 one point 517. Right now now and it made it. I I would I would love to. Friday it would it would be a bad thing to have a good correction rate their health. Hard to forecast when word yet. And wanna thank you all for tuning in to this hour of the financial exchange chuck is not a talker sold at the Helm my name's Barry Armstrong and we've been producing this program.
