This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and showed sound. You're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day you still leave your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chunks. Do you own an iPhone that is a question that we haven't. It's a very important question because if you're like many of us. You're limping into the finish line and waiting for apple to announce when they're going to come out. With their new iPhone hi everybody Barry Armstrong and trucks ought to with you here. On a Wednesday. And truck right now if if you're of the mind. Like myself wore my son who had a cracked screen. You're seeing win to become an out with a new life this is very important for me. Lot of people weighed in on those on new phones and we appear to have the person. Leaked information via inside skinny it appears that we have some info on now when that iPhone. May in fact be released is going to be the iPhone seven and it's according to us internal documents about. What they call merchandising reset hours which is pretty much people having to go into the apple stores instead of the new displays saying hey now you can pre order the new iPhone and then two weeks later hated new iphones available right. And what they have told us there. Is on this schedule that was apparently leaked from an Apple Store September 9 of 46 team will be the op pre order date in September 23. Will be the actual delivery date of the new. IPhone stuff and we know this because what apple is doing is they're staffing up for September 23 they're bringing on. Extra workers. For September 23 in anticipation of lines. And people wanting to get that new book is that it seems like it's going to be the first day chuck we gonna be able to walk into the store pick up your phone. That looks like when it'll probably be no I did this a couple years ago and pretty much what you do is either if you have a pre ordered young to witness awfully long line where. I don't even know how long it takes to go through there or I pre ordered mine a couple years ago showed up by the way it may be a five personalize it to about ten minutes and hours in and out. No profit member of the oldies read that line would be around the block oh yeah I mean either that it was the first when he didn't quite have that much just do that it would there was this big installed base. But I remember you started getting out to like the iPhone three and the war and that's that's really where I think you were late kind that peak buzz where everyone was all fired up about it. And I think that's where you really saw the most interest that was actually coming out. Now feared it all right I today is a day where we received minutes from the Federal Reserve the FOMC will release minutes. At about 2 PM this afternoon. And it's they basically will be giving us an indication. As to whether or not they're going to raise interest rates in September Bill Dudley. Who is the New York fed governor probably the most powerful governor. On the Fed in my opinion. He has been hinting shock that they will raise rates in September. He has and he I think it was yesterday a that we are talking where he actually dropped a hint and he said. Look I'd be perfectly comfortable with the raising rates in September now I can tell you the market doesn't completely believe mr. Dudley at this point and when we go to take a look at the Fed futures and fed futures if you're not familiar with them it's simply as a tool that allows people to bet on whether or not rates are going to go up or down. In the futures for September 21 which is the date of that next meeting show an 82% chance that rates continue to stay at this range and 18% chance. That they are bumped up by one hunt. Well our audience you have an opportunity. To. Guess as to whether or not the Fed will raise rates in September or not. Tucker Silva what is our question and how to our listeners participate in the poll yeah our poll question today which you can vote on line on our website at financial exchange showed dot com. Is will the Federal Reserve hike interest rates in September simple is that just her now so once again vote online at financial change choate dot com what are the results so far I still early but we get semi 5% notes 45 yes. I just voted by the way. Talk oh I shovel tell you how I voted that we believe in voter integrity here well you know something I looked up chuck voted no. It is on the results. Chuck or something too to note. Is that in June of 2004 if you pressed me on this the other day definitely notes handy. But in June of 2004 when George Bush was running for his second term in office yet they raised rates. The economy is all better. True good point out on a good point you had a much stronger recovery there. But at my point is they were agnostic as relates to the yeah election dep I think it with with that being. I'm much more. The economy today I think I'm much more unstable. Footing. I think that they will err on the side of caution and not move there the the likelihood of aid December hike okay. Yesterday we had topped 50% for the first time we continue to be right above that 50% mark 42%. A chance that easy one hike by December actually is seven point 6% chance that easy to hikes by some ordinary. Lumber Liquidators getting some good news out of California as I understand. Yeah they did there was a lawsuit that was filed. By the global community monitor and sunshine park. That consumers were not appropriately warned. With regards to be formaldehyde that was in the their products. That lawsuit has up pretty much been rejected on accounts that the evidence did not support the claims that consumers were now Warren Moon it is not a statement on whether or not the formaldehyde was present in there whether or not. Lumber Liquidators. Did anything wrong in any other way in but simply on this narrow aspect of the case they appear to have kind of moved on from there. And it appears that this is something that pending appeal. I was going to be in the past. You know it's ironic the stocks bouncing back by the way it's up 4% today but what's ironic is this scandal or alleged scandal. Has really. Turned out to be not much of anything and it wiped out the entire management team member everybody was being fired in and let go when this thing broke. A lot of people have voluntarily yeah there were a lot of left voluntarily and and they get under shareholder pressure would you agree. I don't know I think a lot of people might have been just brats getting out of sinking just don't wanna be here yeah and and I think look you know they they did some things that were. Pretty unseemly now the fact they were found liable in terms of warning consumers about those things it's it's something but. This is not a company that was providing. In a lot of cases the products they said they were now it comes back to China problem too well you know. China product and charity if you measured a huge problem in an in this is we see this so often with companies. From China because they don't have the internal controls in place. To either from an accounting perspective or quality perspective and shore. What you are getting when you order products from yesterday we were. What do you prefer Home Depot or Lowe's video I've personally I go to Lowe's but I only go there. Because it's more convenient I'm not saying it's the better shopping experience. I tend to prefer and people. I don't know why there's nothing rational about it it's one of those irrational decisions that we made it closer to your house. The one now but even like before I would always go to Home Depot overload Leland I don't. I don't know why it's kind of one of those things that it's ingrained in my mind I guessed. And I've always had pretty good experiences there and have never really looked anywhere else below is here reporting earnings only couple days after Home Depot. Did and while Home Depot pretty much matched what expectations work. Most actually had a decent sized mess and in particular by about 2% yet they they missed by well about 2% on revenue they missed out by a little bit more on earnings actually in the stock is down about 6% on that news room and you kind of wonder why is Home Depot able to capitalize or hit their marks while Lowe's isn't. Because they've they've they are two pretty similar stores like or don't even though I prefer Home Depot I acknowledge is not a huge difference between them and Lowe's the other they're pretty similar. But for some reason Home Depot appears to be a little bit more stable at this point and those being punished for them. You know one thing that I would suggest as you guys you know become homeowners and he Lawton. You know you you have to shop at a hardware store try to support your local hardware store because you want them to have the around in your town like for me to go to the home people were lows the ten minute mile drive by local hardware stores two miles away. The thing to considers if you're buying a big ticket item like. Lawn mower war or a yes snowblower for that matter right yeah you spent thirteen hundred dollars 800 dollars on a law on the snowblower. You can get it repaired at your local hardware store you go and buy that from the big box store your local hardware store and may not be later pair. So even see using that even if you work shoes have you buy it somewhere else they may not repaired knees don't he didn't buy it that's right the a lot of these hardware stores are saying hey. You mr. Perry got a beauty shop here to that and which I understand you know you just look logistically that and I would never turned on revenue. Yeah I guess so I guess so but I can tell you that with appliances so sure that I know appliances that's definitely the case you gonna buy something you go by your washer and dryer from Home Depot. Your local plants guys in the service centers are just like out there I think on and on a lot of the struck. It's it's the the services and convenience I don't think that make a lot of money. Could be had at a I don't really know I'm not I'm not familiar enough with that service business to be able to speak on one way or another. Pay up next will be joined by Korean Boston from triple lie associates he is a trip to the chief economist there. Gonna talk to us about what to watch for. In the Fed minutes that's right 2 o'clock today. We get the Fed minutes he give us his insight as to what we might learn. Later this afternoon that's next from our insurer match dot com studios. Leader bank has tremendous amount of mortgage loans as a matter fact I've used them a couple times to refinance properties in the past. Jake how's the mortgage disease it's been an extremely busy Barea. There are a lot of people buying homes so that's kept the purchase market very very busy and on top of that racers still at all time lows so we've a lot of folks who are refinancing their homes either get a better rate or both some cash out because of properties appreciate it that's risen asking how does somebody know whether they should call to refine. Well you know. Dude there's really 22 ways if they feel that the rate can be improved. Give us a rate and you know thirty year fixed racer all time lows. If you had anything in there in the 4% range frankly give its rate in my view of these something. Or if you need to take some cash and of your property wondered for a college tuition for kids or you guys have home equity lines of credit we have home equity lines of credit as well and the cool thing about that is. If you already had a great read on your first mortgage you know home equity line of credit which will leave your first loan as it is an idea access the equity. Makes an awful lot of sense and you've got fifteen year fixed rate mortgages by your adjustable rate Mort all types simply we we have all types of that in addition to that were actually very active Jumbo and yourself. As properties have really appreciated in the markets in Massachusetts. There's been higher demand for Jumbo loans that we do a lot of that so last year Berry we are actually not the number two home purchase later Massachusetts. It's good for you congratulations. Folks that's Jake to leave from liter bank they can be your mortgage bank call them toll free 8776917. B 900. You can check out all their rates on line at leader bank dot com. Or you don't talk to human being given McCall they have loan officers standing by right now. 8776917900. That's told Parikh. 8776917900. Securities are securities America income member in PC. Or operative securities America advisors. Are represented on target are three group and securities America companies. You showed little tore everything business and finance it's the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong in chunks of on the financial exchange radio network. You could sure make a lot of money if you knew win the Fed was gonna start raising interest rates to that end we're joined by Korean Bostick chief economist at triple lie associates. He's gonna help us interpret the tea leaves I Karine Harry you. The morning very developed thanks to. Good good so help us if you would understand with the timing of the next rate hike could be we just ran through. You know the Dow plot plan if you woody carpet that dot dot dot dot plot yet. We ripped through the dot plot that vignette Bill Dudley talking yesterday and boy he sounded like he wants to go in September. Right I think. You know I think he's certainly putting September on the table as they hit a real possibility. You know where's the market is only pricing in about fifteen or 20% chance of that. Even after his comments. I think really you know you had a stake comes down to one particular number but you know I do they get the next there'll number we get is another strong one we've had two strong once in a row. But it that numbers they come and over 200000 again then I think the debate. At the Fed meeting at September will be quite real. And it you know could burial vehicle cost whether they go or not but my guess is a very strong number you know probably just pushed and an after action. And what inflation numbers are they looking at we report the CPI but I know you look at other inflation data. To try to determine what the Fed might do. Right and I think keynote that bit of a cliche but big big you look at everything. Formally speaking there. Inflation target is the core PCE deflator. Inflation component of the GDP number. However. CPI's important date extra look at wage growth that was one thing that build up being mentioned yesterday that they're seeing signs of wages picking up. And that's something that you would expect. The labor market tightened. What about the issue of GDP careened. I mean GDP they can't be happy with the first half GDP numbers. Right and headline basis. It was certainly a week first half but you know the second quarter number was heavily influenced by inventories. Which were drag it over percent so when you look at. Real consumer spending in the second quarter that was over 4%. And final sales which is you know all of the net expanding. With about two and three quarters so. Yesterday that the headline numbers are important. Don't diminish that but does they were the details were a bit stronger than. Does the election come into play. Well Hewitt cut his way yesterday say that it doesn't and I think that's what that that would always today. I would say they would probably take beat. Impact of the election and on their policy vehicle market so if the markets were nervous. About the election. That I think yeah I would impact them but. You know at this stage that doesn't seem to be the case. Very good very Karine thank you very much for your time we appreciate it. Careened Boston chief economist triple lie associates joining us today and chuck the key thing we learned there I think the most important thing the cream told us. You gotta wait for the jobs report. Well I think so and obviously we've got what's it about two weeks two and a half weeks now until we get that jobs report. And that's set the Friday before labor and yet can be up Friday September 2. And so you know that's that's a pretty big one here and you know we've seen two months as Kareem said too much a good job growth. The three month trend before that wasn't particularly strong so if he's going to really depend on user and he. Or else that comes out I'm trying to think of other things that could influence their decision. As to whether or not they're gonna go we've got good jobs report which I agree UC. You'd have a jolts report maybe you'll love another odd job opening report you have auto sales. You have some housing data so the other piece that comedian repeated reference any of the if he was solely. Impacted by the jobs. The other piece that could play into this in part of it the jobs report is more Fo his. More present dated then. Now we seeing a lot of other cases. The we do get a revision of the GDP data coming out on August 26 you remember that second quarter GDP initially appeared much worse than expected right there and and we. Heard from others. That that may have been an incorrect number correct so that's going to be coming out on August 26 we're talking was that can be next Friday and we've when we're gonna be getting that data so that's another piece of the puzzle I think the big one is also going to be the following Monday August 29. We get the PCE pricing data which is what the Fed uses to measure inflation that's their preferred measure of inflation so I think that. Those two pieces to me standout is the other ones that could potentially be important but I do think that jobs number is. Is the biggest one there because in particularly what they are looking for. Is are we starting to see consistent wage growth but is consistent wage growth leads to inflation over time. I'll tell age are you drive around I defy you. To go to a shopping mall or restaurant or any kind of service based business. And not see a help wanted sign and I see how it through the exercise it over the weekend that Saddam was gonna. It chuck keeps telling me this I set out to check it out exit staples. Lows. And BJ's holes everybody's hiring an icy and. Awful lot of help wanted signs were right below help wanted it says twelve dollars an hour thirteen and Nino in these again you're talking about. Fast food jobs you're talking about and what you level for my tail. Provides evidence you don't need a minimum wage doesn't. At this point no you don't meet with each. You know the you've got all these advocates got a fifteen no you don't need when guys and it's telling. Let it go let it flow let the market determine the wage and you make a lot more than the minimum I I agree. I agree. Medal race. 90% on him most the time again. They Cisco Systems holy cow laying off 141000. Please how does a company with 70000 workers. Just jettison. 141000. While I was gonna say that it I don't know I don't know how many employees Cisco had left at this point is they've already cut down their workforce pretty significantly. From their peak this was a company. That at their peak I believe they employed close to 200000 people really. I'm I'm gonna pull the number now to I think. When they're down to 70000 but their cotton up 141000. Workers in note what I was told was that. It's all related these these terminations if you will. Are related to companies that they have acquired term serial acquire kind of like Hewlett-Packard if not particularly good and it either. But they are laying off 141000 workers. Yeah and in this is again and you talk in LA and off 20% of the workforce here. This is not a small number. And I think in particular you know it really you know you've mentioned they're very similar to AHP in that they acquire a lot of companies that don't tend to acquire. Great companies and a lot of cases they tend to not be the best fit. And I think what you're seeing here is that this is a company. That is really. You know struggling to make moves in a market that is kind of left it behind over the last twenty years here this was you remember me this was the highest valued company. In the market I wanna say in a nineties it was it was early 2000 was when it was the most valuable I think you got a market cap of around 450 billion dollars. The stock price since then from 2001. Until today has traded between eighteen dollars a share and thirty dollars each and Freddie thirty you know it's just been in that range has not been able. To really break out the in a dividend dividend is 3.4 so. It's not a lot of bad dividend play there but it's a company that really just has not been able to get out of its own way. Yet you wonder if they can afford to maintain it did and you know a prankster interactions with fifteen to one. Yeah I mean it's it's it's not priced. You know out of line where does that clearly they're seeing it's it's just that the question is are you going to be able to make much beyond. That three and a half percent dividend. The financial exchange our show is a show of education and to that and Cushing Jindal has provided us. With some educational material here's the title of the guide. You don't many people are critical of solar power in Allen and we've talked about solar panels on route and solar city by the way you see the coming out with a solo route I haven't talked you did a did I love this idea you do. Solar roof solar city. Announcing his last week maybe. Bit the are if you're building a new house it's gonna make a lot of sense or your roof is shocked. It may make a lot of sense but rather then mounting panels. On their roof and drilling holes in the roof and potentially causing leaks and whatnot. Solar city coming out to saying well the whole roof is going to be be made out of of solar. Yeah that they're trying to go that route I know I think they said it's probably going to be one to two years away from the first prototypes Wright is and they have a new a new factory in buffalo that they are opening and I think that's where they said they were going to be trying to produce these. But what you're seeing in this is an interesting story here. Is that. As opposed to the rooftops or in which you're small scale installation and your utility scale. Plants that do you know 500 megawatts you've seen more of a growth in kind of these small to midsize. Community solar farms where. Instead of providing for just one home if they provide for a 1020300. Homes. And it's a way that you know you're able to attract people in that area that H service that they want to have them without having it right on their group. The what I like about it is it's in purging solar and you you know people be critical you can't store department just think about. A day like today right. Many homes throughout New England are running the air conditioning you know Meyer conditions and is do so you're running your air conditioning. And solar is enough to maybe take the edge so there have to fire a coal fired plant to that are left at the end. An extra natural gas but it's it does you don't get much from solar ray is still less than 1%. Of total energy production. But if you're in an area like Florida like Arizona like the New England area where yield the use a lot of air conditioning. What happens you have these peak days that we had. Tremendous heat the last few weeks yep it takes the job that when you have these solar fields around so I I I like the idea it would also like is that. They're they're financially sufficient and if you build these fields in big quantities. They become much more. Cost effect I have a buddy from college who actually does this he works on these community solar farms where. They take maybe you know 567 acres and they're not huge by any means but they take up you know decent chunk is based. And he's done one up in Vermont he's done another one. Out in the western part of Massachusetts. And you know we've been doing this for you know for five years to its a couple of your development cycle on these farms in order to. Get the permeating done in the materials and engines never ones on board with that. But these is that the other couple communities that have done these have been very very happy with the results in terms of the ability. As you said in particular you know during the summer months were air conditioning running. It's it's it's it's a slam dunk for them it doesn't offset the cost completely but it's it takes a big bite out. You have a favorite Olympic athlete that in order for these Olympics of alzheimer's these Olympics just for these Olympics in your favor these Olympics I'm probably going to go. Probably KD the Becky not Michael Phelps now. He yells and has peak anymore and he is pretty hotly. Six or metals he still unbelievable. What are you talking of favors I started here a sailor of the woman volatile players. Adding to their name no I did like K Gil de que as well actually she's becoming a cork fan favorite to thank. She's go to college and for going her professional. I guess money. Right she's accepted a scholarship to Stanford yup that's worthless maybe sixty grand. Sixty gritty areas that are caused got to make 400 to pay for. As I call a quarter million when it's all said and on I it's it's interesting because and I'm not saying hey dad I think. We think she's worth on the open market if you like if you word. You know night you're you know some for sponsorship opportunity how much issued a lot of people peg you kind of in that one to three million range. You know and from my perspective I understand go to college but college at least the way I view it is kind of a means to an end and it's it's still go to Italy to do later on. What she could still go to college but he just wouldn't be able to compete in the NCAA but she is choosing. Overall coalition in Asia young lady she's nineteen years old you know she won a medal which is fifty. I wonder he's going to be bored competing in college without you you raise a good point because she is so dominant I mean if the international level she's beating people by eight seconds right. So imagine what she's gonna do with the collegiate yet I think she may be a little bored but look she has she got to drain with men she is so fast right. And the men are intimidated because usually. Men and women that times are significantly different yeah she is competing collected guy. And the men you've got men that are just saying I don't wanna train with Katie anymore because she is like if the college level she'll beat men under college we got Stanford. Or I was looking at it and you look like some of the the world records even for. Certain men's events I think it was looking at the the 500 or something like baton and I was looking you know I'm sitting there I'm going. She that or not there like it's it's Angeles nineteen normally it's ridiculous to even talk about that but. She's not that far off in you know you almost wonder you've got to sit there and you say you could she tried to compete at that level that it be something interest and seal tell you a. Mother was an Olympian. Her father younger audience be good genes and her family I'm not gonna say there are you know rich but they're pretty well loss I don't think she's under financial pressure yeah. Two to take the money. But boy. You know what she blows out her shoulder and never once again. Right in the and then she's walked away from a million bucks I would imagine that. You don't because they're probably taking out some kind of insurance policy on her like a Lloyd's policies or something like that you single out with NFL draft prospects were they go back to school for an additional year and they do I Eleanor five million dollar policies of the they have an ACL or something like that it pays out. It certainly is we are joined now by Christopher in time for Morningstar. Christopher thanks for joining us today. Christopher what are we got talking but I get I get that we're going to be talking about gold a little bit here. Carry any comment golden and gold miners in general. So rob what are your thoughts in general on gold when you look at and obviously it's had a very strong year to this point. Is that something that you think can continue. Not to be out well a little bit worried about it gold has had a fantastic year and gold mine Xbox that. Haven't even greater your some of boxer doubled her nearly tripled this year. Alone and more worried about it is when the Fed going hiked interest rates. Yet they did it once in December and all the collier we've been playing this game of whether or not they're going to rate. Increased the rate sooner or later or what and I had a huge impact on how attractive gold investment. Are there any statistics any data on how much one fed rate hike typically impacts the price of gold. Are not directly could be at the relic inspect it and textual about how much a particular rate hike would have an impact. But what we can't say is that the first half of this year at the amount of money that went into gold that investment. Would he single. Largest two quarters over the last decade at least. Leading up to this than point thirteen gold as an investment has been mainly. Money's been coming out of school as an investment and that she didn't applying cold into the market but during the first half of this year it's just been a huge source of coal demand. Now in terms of minors they typically move around more than the price of gold just because they tend to be more based on their profits and leverage and so forth correct. I so what do you see is is that something you can giving a warning on gold miners as well. Yep exactly because what we've seen as the stocks that that the goal miners are have been some of the best performing around this year because of how cold has done. And what we're saying is that as cold comes down from him as that is the rate hikes come in to play. The gold mine accident start pricing that and it's that they're at risk for herself up pretty dramatic pullback if gold does come out. Now in terms of these miners are they typically hedged with you know other materials and other. Precious metals to any of them get involved in silver palladium or anything like that that may. Don't divert a little bit from gold in order to offset that. Historically they used to be used either hedged their gold prices they mind it or they used to get into. Other medals. But actually investors over time. Preferred that they focused mainly handled you are looking for a pure play. And so that's really what they want and you know if they wanted to get it into copper or something else that it just got by the road copper miner basically. All right very good what Christopher thank you for joining us today. It our Christopher in town for more and start talking about gold always a sensitive topic right now and always draws out the emotion in investors gold guys tend to be all and you know it is one way or the other on gold's interesting because gold is is the opposite. Of stocks when you look at. How it performs best it typically. Doesn't outperform very much in terms of inflation over long periods of time just because of how it's actually you know doesn't have earnings doesn't have the ability. To earn anything room. But over short periods of time it can be very good for portfolio just because. It can you know during times of fear and times of economic downturns than it can't be something that actually does rise in value significantly now. The problem is finding the right time to buy it. And I am not qualified to be able to tell it you know nobody is pretty favorite sporting goods store. Pro addicts they're the only one left to business as very easily won laughter yeah. Will their same store sales the just reported a two point 8%. Now I think objects as the sporting goods store that would definitely be suffering from the Amazon effect meaning. That. For instance when I order tennis balls ordered the money and is on their delivered to my house right I'll order grows at a time. Yvonne in order irked. Stuff for swimming whether it's caps goggles bathing suits I ordered on line. They seem to be defying graft. I think part of it is for sports where you have equipment that is more based on feel as opposed just ordering scan has said tennis balls yet skates baseball gloves here by all back stickier and try and things like that you want you wanna kind of feel it in your hands and and things like that it may get hurt badly by the gulf. Decline they have been impacted significantly by the declining golf golf was one of the things. They've really carried them from kinda 2003. Through 20102011. And they have really felt the impact in the last few years in the declining golf so that is something that. You do have to watch for with this business. They are the biggest name in town at this point in terms of a pure play sports store I mean you've got a couple others. That are out there you've got Cabela's that they tend until more towards hunting and things along those I don't know how Stiller and mode dells I believe he is still around sports authorities gone right he they would support started just what the bankruptcy of drove past couple of their stores that. In the were having their final clearance sales. Is mode dells sitting around on. City sports in that was that was a much smaller store mode Dell's is still around them now cases they are still kicking around motels a private company at this point. But tells you don't Modell was founded. 1889. At the bearer for almost a hundred no little over a 125 years. That's I guess the I don't shop at vick's very often but I can see where you would like if you're gonna by kayak you're gonna go to the store detective nearby tennis racquet. And by baseball bat at a baseball glove and actually garnered ticks later today to check out some sneakers. Try to cause you know yeah I wanna try stuff on. But if you're buying the same might my wife orders as saint gets the same sneakers with a few bunkers on line if she knew what you want it writer got like a foot size is changing. So she she buys the same thing she buys those but they are evidently in their stock was up 7%. And yes I mean look that they had a good quarter again they are pretty much the only game in town at this point. And I think they should benefit from that in terms of their ability. To bio larger scale that other companies. And also have the distribution in order to get in front as many people's. Possible. Well then all the assets are at risk for shore and if it's a joint bank account they're absolutely at risk. 100%. Even if its joint with a child. Or a niece or nephew and that's what happens lots of times when you're single it's still considered. A 100% at risk. Well a few weeks ago we're talking about how the stock market was melting up now we can talk about how it's melting down right now. I've got the Dow down about 48 points the S&P down five. Big story though like they gave what I find fascinating is the price of crude oil truck at 4663. You know we we drop down to 39 dollars a barrel I believe it was during that first week of August Newton caught a lot of people by surprise. But what's more surprising to me is not that it went to 39 but how quickly rebounded back up to 46. There really has a mean again you're talking what span of about a week and a half two weeks and maybe where you've seen pretty much a 15% rally in oil prices. And you know it seemed like it was only couple weeks ago that we were talk to people about you know gas prices going down we are gonna get down below what two dollars nationally and all of a sudden it's. Yeah we may get down below two dollars nationally and then bounced right back up. In that 212 to fifteen I'd like to see it stay low. But it will we'll see he target earnings per share dollar 23 vs the dollar twelfth ranked in the save yourself. Okay they came in and they beat their earnings estimate. By eleven cents per share. He'd say hey that that's good news and daddy eat but yet the stock is selling off so dramatically but certainly more than 6%. Stock is selling off about 6% the reason for it is not what target reported. This quarter it's what they guided. For the rest of the year the company is now expecting to earn between four dollars and eighty cents to 520 share. Down from five point 540 so far to pretty much coming and saying look. We're reducing our earnings guidance by 6% the stock market saying OK you're losing value by 6% as well. Well in and what's actually about this company is if you're call last year they announced that they were. Basically. Closing their own brand of drugstore yup and what they did lose the invited CDS to effectively. Sublease. Office space in every target store yet and that it has rate that hurt their same store sales obviously because they don't get credit for that. But then they're able to collect the rent from CBS I I don't like the move because I think. There are people that will CBS is still store that you go to. You know it's still a yup is still play she might order your delta dental floss on line you minority toothpaste online toilet paper. But I tend to go to CBS it's still one of those places that. You know I had a proto goes often as they used to but he still go to your prescription drugs right if you're sick the doctors are gonna prescription Korea yeah so like I'd like that move in the long term. I do to what's interesting is that target in this is stripping that out here. Target is expecting their sit same store sales and third and fourth quarters to come in flat to down 2%. They previously thought their same store sales would grow by between one and happened two and a half percent so. Something out there that they're looking at. Isn't particularly strong for the next six mall. Well maybe they're looking at the Amazon affect more than 100 electric boat workers at quonset are taking the 45 day furlough. And boy this is for all the wrong reasons not through any fault of their own not because they don't have enough work to do any work it's because they have material shortages because their suppliers early I don't materials. How done believable. These guys are gonna 45 day holiday. A unit and Darryl they want the holidays not to be able to collect unemployment picture. They're gonna be able to collect unemployment they're going to be able to still have their same health care benefits and everything that they do today so. You know it's it's not a it's not an awful thing for them you're talking about a month and a half but. Again there. Even give guys from the the facility there. Who was say look we've got you know enough war we have plenty of work to do we just don't have the supplies and to be able to do this right now it can be 130 workers. That are taking these 45 April up. That's a big facility to be so they you know we talked about we're just talking about target. And we talked about companies that are negative Lee impacted by Amazon Amazon clearly huge business disrupt her. Now there's a theory that Home Depot and Lowe's are immune to the Amazon effect do you buy into that. Yes you do I don't know if I don't think I don't there's nothing you would buy. On line that you would buy at hobby Torvalds. No and I think about what I've by at Home Depot. You know I've put in new shelves in my and one in my cause to make a pantry the other. And what I do well I'm not gonna go on line and you know by that I had to go win and I had to look at and kind of figure out what I needed them and so for me being able to go in. Made a ton of sense there talk Brett out of school Lexus or you're gonna buy a a song always go in and buy it. Just because. You know you see it on line you don't get a sense for the weight of it for the thickness the field and things like that you know you need to be able to go in and say okay. I need to rent for what what exactly how to I want this to and be a big window is small when you need to be able to actually. See and feel those tools in order to be able to make sure that they can be a fit in the areas that you're trying to use them in and so forth and that there you know bill reliably. To the point that you know what you're getting. The market's seemingly agrees with you because the you you look at how they are Reid leading their sales and you look at their sales forecasts. And a tightly they seemed to be able to hit their numbers. And and not suffer from sales declines as a result of them yeah I think both of these come what may be Amazon just hasn't focused on. And look both of these companies are incredibly well Runnels you know you talk about the supply chains that they have you talk about the relationships they have. With their product manufacturers and so forth. They do a good job running their businesses they run efficient shops. They are clean shots and they do a very very good job I think taking care of the customers obviously Home Depot. On the eve of the biggest near the 800 pound gorilla in the room there about two and a half times the size of blows and McCain terms of market cap the number of stores. But they both do an incredibly good job. At providing. For the customers did you guys know that Olympic athletes. Need not all countries that many countries. Olympic athletes get paid for winning a medal at a note. And neither was wondered how they get paid a penny while not all countries well I think Roger you know Germany compensates there're there're Olympic athletes here. Beer free beer related out. Exactly. So not only free beer to get into a lifetime supply. A freebie you know and I figured out what they call you guys the wrong name I just look at the so. Via the but Germany making that decision that they give there if you win a bronze medal gold medals Olbermann you know lifetime supply your. The other thought the other one that I love is that South Korea if you win a medal you get a military exceptions they don't have to serve. It would be very guy back faces south the physics of what is the kind of counter intuitive though that your exempting the best athletes and serving in the military. France will pay 66000 dollar differences in Minneapolis. On offer it's pretty good. France for its got a bunch good swimmers get some good runners and number five efforts for it you've got some pretty decent athletes there I'm embarrassed to say Canada's not even in the top eleven. For gold that horrible Winter Olympics when he aren't we dominate Winter Olympics the point where were second wind on the summer you wanna know where a candidate actually stands I do right now outside I'm dying to know because I know we're not in the top eleven so. What could make my day more full than to know where we stand Canada oh you're you're not as bad as you thought OK in terms of a number of gold medals okay you're in a tie for fifteenth. And in terms of overall medal counts. Just re. Restoring this table here. A little bit worse tied for seventeenth I'll tell you who did. Most dominant countries. Based on population. Per medal winning Jamaica now. Australia. Australia kicks but I gotta be up there too. And we namely one athlete to athlete at that we are talking in terms of medal winners actually after Jamaica where they've got the yeah same table and you've got the hundred meter women's champion you've got the 400 meter of the 200 meter women's champion. I mean you've got in Australia has there. When he four medals total. Australia's amazing. And he their population is like 29. Hey we have to take a break up next we're going to be joined by Joseph Fitzpatrick. If you know the answer again 66 TDs tied to iTunes. Chuck let's talk about Great Britain eerie you know I've poked fun at them back in June when they voted to leave. The the European Union sounds like Great Britain might have the last laugh. Yeah and to be honest they're probably going to end up having the last lap and in my opinion this is probably everything that is wrong with EU and that it simply has not ever had the authority or the strength to actually be able to do anything effectively. And you have there is talk now that. In this coming from on Germany the minister of state. For Europe Michael Roth out of Germany saying that Britain may be able to get and I quote. Special. Status if they reached a bright the yet so the way that I read this is that Germany who pretty much runs the EU. By all accounts. Is pretty much saying you know what you're leaving and well we need you more than you need and if it really seemed lets me that's the message that there are sending. But there's a caveat here track and caveat is you must keep your borders open meaning that the you're not gonna get the resolution of the immigration. We will see. If if that actually ends up. Going through I mean look you're we've been were what two months pass the I'll vote I think it was on now like the twentieth of June somewhere around there. We're too much faster or I think was the 27 June. And already you have Germany saying well we can make some concessions here we can make some concessions there. Now look if if Germany does give concessions in some places maybe Britain comes back with some and others maybe you ended up getting a deal out of this where they don't even end up leaving the EU. I don't know if that's necessarily what's gonna happen but I said. You know again once once things settle down after that first month and once you've got. Teresa may taking over as prime minister. Yeah she was kind of guiding and saying look I don't think this is actually going to happen the way people thought it did so I think the most likely solution still. Is that. And Britain ends up working out a new deal. Which EU they get the closed borders because that's the big deal if you're if you're Brit this is what you voted for. The vast majority of the people that voted for blacks it once they're closed their borders closed. I don't think you do. You don't. I don't it's eight. I I don't think you do and I think that that probably makes tensions in Britain now I think I was gonna say you are directly repudiate repudiate the work that the voters are. You're exactly right the you quick announcement on behalf of Armstrong advisory group you know. We talked about the price of oil earlier this month oil hit 39 dollars closed at 39 dollars per barrel. And right now it's trading at 46 dollars and 63 cents per barrel so clearly. Investing in commodities is a risky bet and it's a very volatile sector in which to be invested in. What area that's interesting in this is something that I've often wondered about his email okay. Obviously you know typically if someone you know dies with the real mail address and when you start you know that whoever sending you stuff get something back you know persons deceased we stop sending mail and so forced. With email you don't have a process for. You have to go through in a lot of cases you have to notified Google or Yahoo! to shut down email account you have to also prove that the person I mean it's it's it is something that people have to actually deal with that. You know no one ever talks about if thinks about something like this but you've got to sort all this stuff out. Put up an opt out of office automatic reply. That's that's all the outlook. Until you die yet and in I think you know there's some things that you can do to potentially skirt around it but there's there's nothing hard and fast that. Really gives you direct ownership of a lot of the select the results would reply if you buy a book right that's why buy real books at night now I get it. That's that's just start using regularly prior to age sixteen look different in terms of points structure. And function and the ability to perform certain count it but that's recreational. OK now you also. Am not sure from your study or another one. But there was some assistance. Led to people who suffer from bipolar disorder. From the use of marijuana surely can it can actually help somebody who's bipolar. So yes. Marijuana at the most commonly used illicit substance in patients with viable source within a couple of different I think and the I had septic. Break their mood before and after using along with all of them from month to. On the they've rated you know are on their own that are not part of the doctors are doing on parents and what we found that it won twelve papers and and more recently came paper was that currently have stepped. But the bipolar patients after using marijuana they appear to have a real improvement in their clinical symptoms and interestingly the improvement wasn't that the extent of a kind of reports that they don't look worse and bipolar patients for example who don't use one that's important. Differ from people there may be about clinical benefit which is. The basis of our minds programmed idea behind mind and there's really explore the potential benefit and perhaps downside of medical I want treatment to some extent it. Doctor what are your opinions on medical marijuana use I know we have a bill for recreational marijuana in the fall but. Do you feel that there's a place for medical marijuana. Sure I think that you know we had medical marijuana here you're right in Massachusetts that's when he took all our first dispatchers just opened in 2015 and and that has played a 25 states are hopeful laws another eighteen partial laws and fair amount of evidence suggesting that in many cases there is some benefit to be derived. There's also a lot of variability in the product used in the modes apiece that there's a lot more or surge began but I think it's incredibly promising area is Jaime China. And what about what are your thoughts on a recreational marijuana you haven't. Well I think I think it's were in firm relieve a private think this November to take a lot of people have a lot of very from local police about whether it should or shouldn't be legal and take him out of policymakers. I think bad. As were considering recreational marijuana because they are forced it a DC legalized that. There's. Very very good reasons to be to be mindful of why it's important to perhaps. Legalized and regulated taxed on the other hand being mindful of the potential downside I think. The recreational. Legalizing recreational marijuana comes a number of responsibilities like perhaps making sure that. You know Merrill one of the particularly ITT which is sort of the vote these days music necessarily available to people under certain age but one thing that be in place we. Kimberly had much dialogue about. Now the study you have going on right now would that be published before the November referendum oh. Well I got a question. Yeah hounded about questions about recreational right a lot of and so this. Bert Bert continuing to study recreational smokers we're publishing all the time we also are studying the medical marijuana. Users and we actually are just about the Republicans were our first. Her first paper from NASA which is really quite exciting. And you are. We are real and and when we can be when the second ma am I would expect. Happen in the next before we actually gonna put you on my speed dial up he says one of. I wanted to find out that they there's a lot of us that our parents or grandparents that are saying gee I don't understand all the issues really. Chore that a very complex issue because that very complex plan that is. A plant that's been around for thousands of years that was part of our US our carpet of were killed two people don't understand why we wouldn't think that. Madison but on the other side that people thing you can't. Necessarily. And make sure of consistency and things like that across the entries and vote if you'd end and mechanisms things like that. All of these things have to be worked out but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't be looking at the very different question than for parents looking at the recreational. Or one and it attacks and do you pretty well published literature at this point I think. And the parent or anybody who's really you know are invested in this question. Just ask yourself you know my thing don't ever use that are right thing don't use it until you're in your development in a little bit more ready or maturity handle. Right now like booze or try to keep your kids away from booze until there eighteen or nineteen years and act right. Doctor thank you very much for your time my pleasure my. That's doctor Staci Gruber McLean. Hospital and you know I I was talking to another doctor over the weekend it would just. Debating the issue of recreational marijuana. And he said what he his selling point to me on voting in favor of woods. Look it's available like if you're the kid in high school. There's somebody in high school where they can want to call and by. If you're a kid in college it's in the dormitory. In all right every dorm has a dealer at so it's readily available his pointless if we grow it locally. Weakened. Make sure that there's not extra pesticides put in it it's not least with PCP you know they you can manage. The type of product that's being put out palaces his reason for voting in favor of marijuana we're gonna talk a lot more about it. During the next couple months what do thank you for tuning in to the financial exchange truck exotic Tucker Silva very Armstrong. From our insurer match dot com studios.
