This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and showed. Exclusive look at business and financial news affecting you use the to a world. Stay informed and today about economic and market trends plus breaking business news. And the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and shocks. And I'm broke. Beat just different out there early in the show I'm grumpy and the bad news. And it's okay if you are too I mean it's it's permissible. Given time a year and the temperature not temperature was when I drove into the office and yet not spurring. Those call and let me fill this week at 5:30 in the morning it was I think under twenty degrees what time did you spend enough temperature. Not very little about it or seconds by house to my garage he actually I don't I never went I have not been outside it's an. But it I do I retain the right to be grumpy and complain if you do. You said both walk outside to get here cars that clean up on ice off the Korea makes me feel better I feel I'm feeling better already. Yeah but I heard and I still hit the gym at 5 AM. Mean dad and welcome to the party Mike heard him warm up to like Westwood and come from hang them I think people are gonna be grumpy for a while I just want to add I'm gonna mention it it's partly. Due to the way the winners just like okay. 65 degrees last week when he found out what they battle with its 22 degrees now. So the weather's terrible right now and complain about that. I heard eight plow guy in my driveway last night. Not happy about the least you had one not happy about that nobody came to my players you know laugh like he did it do you think the plug as of may be taken advantage goes a little bit at the end of the season but thanks a slide in one more plot and not really sure yet to be but he anyway. He's a good kid. Oddly out. I tried this I think I could have made it out without a pop. OK all I'm I'm I'm grumpy about the weather but here's what's gonna really make me. And find out my tax. And that if that. He left now you've got a reason to be growth I will tell me I'm just weren't you guys. There is going to be an increase in grumpy yes during the next. Wouldn't we had twelve days the taxes are due we that you are thirteen days up at three different days April 15 but he apparently eighteenth this year. Yep I've I've usually gotten extra 1000 patriots than nineteenth for us it's obvious the eighteenth because the are we all like Sunday in this in that if something era I don't know that's the other thing makes people grumpy on your taxes to think. Are you grumpy but the only one grumpy 68680. Is our text number I'm grumpy. For two reasons I have two reasons to be a plus the Bruins sock and they're gonna lose tonight not be. Here I thought that you know growing up in Canada you had to go uphill both ways in weather like this with you know why I hate the type of weather. I I I write a pick and moved here. They didn't move here because you know I if you go to find a better place to move for the weather. OK hate big news this is believed or not technically Twitter is the biggest news story of the day it is. Twitter has a deal. With the NFL and this is if it's a big an appeal to move their stock maybe you would take a look at their stock openly tell everybody what Twitter is doing. They are doing to deal with the darnedest thing. They're going to be airing. Thursday night football games on Twitter still trying to get my arms around I think it's the that's the sound you hear right now is the death rattle for what real yes see everybody I talk in twos in this is. Ingenious deal. It's gonna get a mop office 300 million users. If you don't need to be used to watch it. And if you do you know how to use Twitter noon wanna. What we've hit the while there there is the logic on the part of Twitter is that there's a lot of young people and an odd you guys are no longer qualifies being young. He there's a lot of young people that are seven to ten years younger did you did he'll have in his seven to ten on the and it got those now seven to ten years younger than you. They don't have cable TV don't have TV at all in the the only thing they do as they watch their phones right gullible right and look. He is like the zombie Koppel people walking around the ball copilot of apocalypse Koppel business that apocalypse pop. The apocalypse. If you eat my point is Twitter doing this deal is widely applauded on Wall Street I the stock was up this morning I say half percent. I think I don't like the deal. I think this is the death knell for Twitter I think this is a this is an admission from Twitter in my opinion that they're normal product can't make it. Ironically I think Twitter is dead within two years did you know that the CFO for Twitter used to be CFO. The NFL. I did not know probably the only reason why this deal got done I heard it's only ten million dollar deal hurts a million bucks game I think it's a I think it's a terrible deal for Twitter they didn't get any of the aggregate. That's the one I noticed. So all the ads are gonna be it NBC has the games like so it's gonna be if you're watching it talker in your device but I still maintain there's a lot of kids on college campuses and in high school in in and you know 23 year old that are broke right that don't have cable TV. The problem I have is why. So that there's and it's their friends Wi-Fi there's still a problem because I'm a big Twitter user I use it a good amount and you know I probably have. For 5000 tweets that are out there when it's all said and done. The thing I have it would use it and I would have been much to say. Well that's why not a Twitter and I think I think I think the big thing that IC is Twitter Twitter is big. Paula that the big thing that it provides him is rapid fire access to breaking information. What they're trying to do here is this reminds me an awful lot of yeah op. How often though do you go to Twitter and then watch a video that somebody posts you Purdue that. We mean watching video that somebody somebody's posted video on Twitter rated in their street got somebody you files so give me a big celebrity that you fall. Taylor Swift and Taylor Swift. Posts a video. Of a new songs to choose to watch it. Occasionally but that's not a three hour NFL game. The problem is that Twitter is built for people with no attention span and you're inherently putting a project with an attention span on it. And that's a real problem because audience isn't built. If that type of product. And in this reminds me an awful lot of Yahoo! Yahoo! reached out to the NFL last year got that one streaming game your man and it was a desperate attempt to try. To get some type of relevance to their media properties to Wear here. Is trying to build media properties with the NFL right now. It strikes me as a last gas type of effort for them and I just don't know if it's going to pay off I. I don't think. I don't think this company and look I I love the product for Twitter I think it's a good product line but I recognize that my company is dead in the water I mean it just it. They can't make money now. There's a lot of companies at the same. Yahoo! is another one you know you're Yahoo! mail or talk about it later but Yahoo! is streaming 100 ED Major League Baseball games. What really is cool. Now they're doing it a Major League Baseball game everyday talk and which I think is costs of the not go to the third most popular sport in the context. Try to rebuild themselves well you know what though like let's say you live. You you live in Edmonton driver and your yankees fan. Right now there's a Yankee game on in that are eager to be here in the shop we fear card to be repaired right you can watch and MLB game I think I I would do. But you can do that without Yahoo!. Not a peace in the and it it in a giant MLB TV you go right on there you go at year's subscription girl set it. Yeah you gotta pat ya Yahoo! you know it's free and it's a 180 games like that one game a day when they get if there if my team is not I would do it I would watch and I just I was not a platform that's like. This is the problem with all of these attempts is they're not actual platforms they don't give you anything unique from one game a day of my game is non mean I'm not tuning in. Think about what's happened things like Sunday night baseball like the Sunday night game of the week and no wind hair and nobody one no one day cares anymore. And to try to go that route it's this isn't the 1950s anymore. I'm here there's big problems over ESPN big trailers. I wouldn't be surprised. Me the the guy that was supposed to take over the game. As the next CEO business Disney's Bob Iger yeah he just quit. You know what it wasn't Iger Iger is the C no I yours yeah yelled stags those guys and chief operating officer five years old. Did their for 26 years stepped away and eat it well and a chirpy stepped away or they said look buddy you're not gonna get the gigs though time to grow interest and yet so it'll get into that later today we don't. A lot to talk about today and we haven't even really. Hit on which should be normally would be the biggest story of the day. New rules on tax and versions threaten the Pfizer Allergan deal we're going to be joined by Elizabeth crude Apollo. From Bloomberg intelligent she's been on this before. But the Treasury Department leaked yesterday out of the dark came out an issue Paul these new rules regarding corporate mergers not even sure they're allowed to do that that they did it. The latest financial trends is we'll place it's the financial exchange we've Barry Armstrong and chuck is not a on the financial exchange radio network. Those of you who own shares in Pfizer. Our power to have a vested interest in it. What we are about to discuss. Yesterday. Jack flew as the secretary. Of Treasury Secretary. Issued new steps taken by the Treasury Department to put a stop to in versions. Joining us to help us better understand it is Elizabeth crude Apollo from Bloomberg intelligence hi Elizabeth thanks for joining us. So this is quite the step taken by Jack Lou this deal. Was a 100 in fifty billion dollar merger between Pfizer and Allergan what did Jack do. To put a stop to this deal. But it is a first time ever being a little bit more than just a hint of that but just an active and one might be done these they're going to be temporary rule and essentially what is done is. Taken out any of the equity that Allergan has added to its portfolio over the past 23 years. Our camp the timing of when that tree years we'll actually be counted but it looked like it would take up of their larger view that these deal. So what in simple terms. Treasury trying to do is actually say. You can't grow yourself in Q&A large unit I've picking up a bunch of US and he's. That's Atlanta's version comes around your large enough to avoid the typical and version rule that if the suggestion. But perhaps that's how Allergan has traction belt tightening itself for either acquisition. It was unusual at least I found it unusual to read that they're going back three years they're making this law retroactive. Yes that's definitely an interesting component of it and then all that these suggestions that other deals that. Potentially are pending or have gone through could also be subject that they rule. And about kindly opened up a lot of debates. What on what basis is the treasury acting who elect I wonder is there rule of law that they're using. Birdie like how do they just come down there's no act of congress here right this is just. Jack was saying yeah we're gonna make up some new rules then and stop these tax deals. Yup that's certainly a question as to whether or not that could actually. Com ruled that the commitment need to ball it's unclear whether or not they can potentially litigate on that issue. Which is something that they certainly made do you that they would. Have a lot of vested interest in making sure that did not pastel. Litigation as an option. That the thing that really hurt me at the scene and right now Paul Allen and as they're really remain silent on the issue. In this instance. Is there a break up fee and who would be paying Allergan are Pfizer. Yes so when we looked back at the term deals there is actually a component. And that does allow for me lower break up he. QQ any kind of tasks issues that would call that the deal there only be about 400 million and that type directly edit but not. And that's clearly prohibited and that is the big concern right now you can be an hour and share price after. The new rules for an hour and I hate it it's clear that either is not really tied the yelled at. If they do you want it and version they may try to walk away Mallard and he'll have for investors are concerned about. Sure in the stocks are down accordingly right. Now you don't nobody's more creative than tax attorney on Wall Street. What do they Guinea used as another way to get around this new Jack Lew rule and me I. The actors I can't imagine they're going to say AO took it will pay 35% tax. Yes it's interesting. We look at the actual law in version of rules is they can they'll trade in ED twenty per parent structure that's bad. Allard and would be me you know at least 20% of the new pro department teach and they can still benefit from the U lower tactic of during half came. A US corporate factory and Allard and it pains Irish actor is so arrogant Smart on the level twelve point five. Pampered but at this point I response to limit the deal with the advantage. That aspect. They would need to get coasters but it's forty rule however is that actually take advantage of the additional benefit in incursions like. Earnings stripping him and that pat. Our Elizabeth we thank you for your time in for your interpretation of what occurred yesterday thank you. It's Elizabeth crude hollow from Bloomberg what do you think community this is a deal. I got I'm I've got. Two feelings about this one I'm sand. He's healthy you know the if there that you got the Treasury Department yet interfering in a private transaction. And then there's the side of me that says I'm about to write a big check for my taxes. And these are companies that are evading taxes. Well I don't have a huge issue with what the Treasury Department is doing because there they're allowed do this this what their created where this is he has it. This isn't some new department that is you know trying new you know coming up with no laws and everything like that department's been around for the last 250 years and they are tasked with managing the tax structure. Of the US with. Making sure that the country can effectively. Pay for what you know what it says it's gonna pay for that requires making sure that you set up your laws in such way that you can collect taxes now. What I can do it retroactive. Well what I do have a problem with is the fact that this is a band aid. It doesn't address the actual reason for these versions which is the fact that you have an inefficient corporate tax structure inside the US appeals to more were gonna read about some way to circumvent. Did Jack who inversion. Well this is again you're not dealing with the actual problem as you said. Lawyers figure out ways to get around it's what they're paid to do and if someone just has to pay attorneys a little bit more in order to figure out new ways around it and they're going to do that so. I think that it doesn't address the core problem that's my big issue with that is. You have attacked structured encourages this type of maneuver right now there. Fix the tax structure. Well and injured. You know those of you who say well they shouldn't be allowed to do and versions. What you remember the shareholders of that company are insisting that they do this the Pfizer shareholders are going to the board and saying hey we want you to be acquired. One because we're gonna get more money for stock that we want you to pay less taxes I mean that is the job. If you're the CEO of that company you don't work for the customers right you work for the shareholders and there's a I think there's a tendency to forget that you know EEU were employed by the shareholders of that company. It does look from the perspective of if you are the United States. Doesn't make sense to try to become the place where you want companies to go to instead of Ireland you know Doug doesn't make sense to try to become a place that people are going to try to do aversion to be any of those. Yep headquarters coming over we have more people coming over. You can make up the revenue on the back end through income taxes and sales taxes and things like that doesn't make sense to do that because companies are gonna go where they go. Anyway it just didn't need to be that the country that you know it's very nice to be neutral right. There's other ways to make up the revenue if you think you're gonna have a revenue shortfall corporate taxes are not a big part of our revenue structure anyway so you know I look at it and I say. Look deal with the problem there and you can make it up on the back end somewhere Angel taxes you've got other places that you can bring them money in so well that's the argument for lowering the corporate tax rate you'd donate. Yeah it's it's you're going to if a company has the locate somewhere in their employees are going to be there you'll make it up on the back end. They who else had ignited a pretty good day company called new bus they're located in Cambridge. They just sold their company really basically some drug research to do yet for one point two billion dollars. Yeah Gillie ad buying this company on named as Apollo four again as you set up to one point two. Billion dollars here. 120 employees mostly scientists at this point they farm out quite a bit of work to some of their subsidiaries as well. And pretty much. They are working on some odd different types of treatments that really go right after some enzymes that actually target different diseases and cause different diseases. In particular naturally all the bodies and because they can get the employees that you get a building they didn't get an. Now that that's pretty much I researches done. Bong and look they're paying 400 million right now and they're paying another 800 million dollars. If you hit future milestones in development here so it's we're seeing a lot of deal structured like this right now where. You know drug companies are putting up some of the money to continue development. And then holding off some of that until later milestones are met you see that the couple deals re. And this is a company that could've gone public as a matter fact they'd talked about going public yeah. It is just cheaper and easier to do this deal with Q and does that kind of eventually what would happen any. Just going to for them to work this way and it's it's not entirely surprising I think that this is the route they chose to go. Well. I asked my wife the other day I said honey why is our electric bill so expensive. Because it should be coming down truck you know I've been reporting ad nauseam about the low prices of oil low prices of commodities while prices of natural gas. But some of a gun or electric bills haven't gone down and one iota is not a factor up. Yep I've taken a look at mine over the last couple months actually just CEO what what exactly has been going on there. Big thing is when you take a look at. At your electric bill you'll see there's two different parts to there is the generation and there's distribution generation costs have fallen in the last year actually practical get modern bit right and Meyer actually down about 20%. From a year ago and it just one component of your bill only one component there and the big reason that you're seeing costs go up actually. Is because distribution costs are rising and we talk about distribution that is the actual. The transmission lines the connection to your home. And that's something that is required some additional maintenance in recent years partly if you go back last year while that was due to watch downed lines because of winter storms and things like that New England but also got to meet is that have been put off by companies for a number of years and now they're having to pay more on the back and in order to take care situations. So it's. You know that's the big reason that we're a lot of ego imagine if natural gas was trade for ten bucks a BTU. Right or up. Our electric bills would be through the roof of charming you which he bills you know significantly higher. If that were the case as it is I'm actually just about in line with where I was last year but I know a number of folks you know they have seen is slight bumps up even though the cost generation. Is below where it was a year. So what we're telling you is. Basically. We're paying today. For a lot of deferred maintenance me work that probably should have been done on our grid during the last 2030 years and wasn't done it we've all driven by mean how many times he did juror now on the street and you've seen a telephone pole that's hanging by thread and you say myself yourself you can't believe that wire doesn't fall down two we're talking about. That what's remarkable. Is they're putting money into the grid in terms of the maintenance of the grid we still lose power lost power for two and a half days. Swift boats at. You're never going to have a completely. Stable solution and to put all those lines underground and it's just too expensive for them do that across the board you know I often think back to 20089. Member would be you know. Thousands millions of people were losing their job as I was the time do it right they're collecting unemployment insurance for what you eat could collect unemployment insurance for like two year 99 weeks right. That was the time if we had. A government that really work force right that would have been the time to say okay let's take that. I don't know it was 80000101000015. Million people are EU we can debate the numbers all day long right. But we could set rather than us giving yen 600 bucks a week to sit on the couch about we give via a thousand bucks a week. And you put these cables under look. I've I've always said that unemployment. You might as we use those people would have ultimately you know they want a war what would whatever it may be most people look you've got projects that need to be finished. The work I mean what what are we talking about here it's not really complicated idea it's not anything that's you know groundbreaking. Talking about doing. Ability that it's now it's too late. Right now now you've got everybody's back to work both too late for that there's still unemployed people I mean you could still obviously find a number of people. To do projects but may be all these people that are going to be displaced by robots right. Underground digging ditches and I get the robust it in the ditches and don't know everything's done machinery. You I've watched project now major construction projects and they're building a bridge near or office. And you know it's them I'd look at that none of it's a marvel at pretty spectacular how quickly it's actually gets taken you know a year but you look at the sheer volume of just dirt and metal and everything that had to move it's only like a dozen guys were not only have the results of the not a lot of men. No no no or women should. Here's. I have got to read these two headlines to you because I I come in pretty early in the morning in our red Jesus had to replace that it was seen double. One article in the Wall Street Journal Fed's Evans repeats belief. Rate increases to follow very shallow path. Then the next page in the Wall Street Journal. Feds rose in grand sees possible rate increases sooner than markets of what I mean these two guys that hang out together. Yeah one guy. Evans is he Atlanta traffickers. Everything is Chicago talk about to get that the Chicago guy in the Boston guy. Out there flapping their guns on the same day. Saying what I perceive to be exactly the opposite. I think it speaks to the fact that the Fed. We we often think of the Fed as being the Fed this one entity that. Knows what it's going to do an tonight and I was going to do it right when it how ugly it was divine right here in this guy behind the curtain and Alan Greenspan really was behind the curtain because nobody knew what the heck use it. That's that's pretty fair right. You interpret his notes or Al gobbledygook but what you find out is that even within the Fed there are different ideas about how. They should actually go about their business despite. Any other organization you go and any company you go to any branch of government dispute with different ideas about how that organization should option operate. The problem you have fears that the Fed and specifically fed policy does have pretty big impact on the economy but and when you have these types of messages coming out. It's tough to figure out exactly what it's tough to figure out what the most likely path. Well I still maintain. They release when I read through Janet Yellen is New York economic club notes. It seemed to me she's very dovish. And that she's gonna move very slowly so you might have Rosenberg who traditionally been by the way. That very Duff should I wonder if he's not a plant if he's not out there just kind of talk and operates. Because. You know because he's tight with the yell it like he's he's a dove at the same camp as yellen C wonder why he's making comments. Well let's you know keep my people do also watching Japan in as they go and in particular out. I'll talk to and you know that you're there are different. Opinions that you get from the same person depending on where their act in their career we've seen that well as usual Seymour yeah as they go through different things in life. And rose in grand is looking at the New England economy. Because that's his chapter that is corrected and certainly what we see here in New England very different from what he's seen other parts of the country actually she can't you you would go to Chicago right now you were to go down to Texas fisherman I like that. Chicago remember includes Wisconsin. Right it the in terms of the Fed region. I and that region is has been hampered in Chicago is bankrupt and the news they. In you go to Illinois there are major financial problems so that does that's actually very good point Rosen rent comes from a region in the country. That is doing better economically. Then Evans who comes from Chicago and Chicago. Is still in in really mired in recession. It it really isn't in particular not just recession but you'll talk about the problems they have from a fiscal stamp out there with the the state of Illinois in the city of Chicago in the pension problems they're about to have it's its. It's not a pretty situation for the state of Illinois in general. Stock talk is coming up next we will be joined by Mike Robinson from the Motley Fool. Jake too who's a senior vice president at leader thank you were talking about something called. He ran it this is a program that allows landlords whether you have. 1010 it's a 110 tenants are 210. Tenants in allows you to collect your rents electronically. As opposed to waiting for those paper versions to come in the mail so wonderful new program available exclusively. From leader bank and Jay's gonna tell us exactly how this program work. They bury so it leader rink we actually think a lot of real estate developers and property owners in the Boston area and some of our larger clients. Came into the bank in and we hear him coming with huge wads of checks. It's we thought about you know why why is it in this teenager still bringing so many checks that they ain't. It's it's a simple thing you know and in so you have property in Cambridge. Three unit building in each year it is three bedrooms. You may have nine checks at the crack just that one proper break so I just college student exactly so you have three properties that's point seven check this starts it starts out pretty quickly. So it's you read what we've done is we've we've allowed a landlord to invite their tenants the tenants signed up. We deduct each share range from the tenants and then one east each payment. That landlord for each unit. So it makes very clean and simple. It's very clearly described as to what the rent is being paid for which property crest which unit number and everyone gets reminders and automatic. And it. That's the best part it's free if you're customer of leader bank. How do you learn more you called him 8776917900. That's a leader bank toll free 877. 6917900. Time for a little bit a stock talk here were joined by Mike Robinson from the Motley Fool Micah thanks for joining us today. Mike a couple companies that we have the first win is Markel corporation. Probably company that most people aren't familiar with can you fill our listeners in on what they do. Yet though mark Kelly is a yet specialty insurance so I get. The best way to understand that is where it typical property casually. Insurers would inch or say like Gaby Cora turned these spoke sell specialty insurance so let's say you have. A very Christ the important wedding that's. You want to insure against something going wrong while they will write a policy bird for that ordered by the policy where you're bass boat. And I think the important thing about this company is error often referred to as the media Berkshire. They're very long term focus it and they'd they generate underwriting profits which is and always been in the insurance business. But also they're very aggressive investors and because of that. They've been able to generate per share book value growth are of around 12% over the last decade. Which is great. And if that the stock that I think you can get a lot of state. It's pride that one point six times book value. And I think we divided into 11% annually over the long term but. That at probably lower volatility than what the in overall market market would. We deal. Yeah it it seems to me just looking at the track targeted doesn't seem to have the volatility. That the broad market does what what could be the potential downside of a company like office. Well the potential downside is that true generally. Let's say they are making bad investments one of the things that they're doing. Now is they're starting to buy out entire company's. Where usually that ever securities were. Portfolio which is. Mostly dominated by fixed income. Investments. An equity securities. Now they're starting they have a wholly owned subsidiary which is going out and buying. Small companies that generate cash flow. And so let's just say hypothetically. They make that acquisitions. Over a long time period that that could be detrimental for for the company but then also if they started writing unprofitable insurance policies. That would be. Bad for this investment but they've never done that and so I think it's very low probability that that happened. Let's turn out to while work day this is a company. That'd been one of the high flyers really from 2013. Even through the first part of 2014. Seems to have fallen onto some tough times in terms the stock price over the last couple years now though what are the issues that they've been feasting. As they've grown. Yet so there's a bit it actually isn't the first time I brought this to your listeners. But I I'll make it the last and not repeat myself but. Lately what happened is we've seen a lot of these cloud. Layers up pullback in terms of multiples. I and that's generally because. A few companies that are that that I get are a fringe compared bidders in the cloud. That report from bad. About quarter but workday though we're talking like that are still doing very well. One of the things that that investors were actually very worried about. A workday is and they're going up against the big companies like oracle and at TP. I'm there's obviously competitive confirm that oracle and I think he offer a cloud based. Software's service program and human capital management and financial which. Directly compete with workday and they have a a much larger markets here but these companies that they are. They are actual product are not nearly as good or as streamlined as workday because. Unfortunately or one I think people are still dealing with the legacy systems that are still posted on site. So you're not getting a true cloud hosted. Software which. These days people even our own companies are we want that companies want that because it actually preferred reduces costs. The less capital expenditure by server left personnel expense and that night he. Personnel and then also there's much. Much quicker. Time periods to keep software up and running. And so. Adult or probable worries I guess that have gone into the stock price but. Workdays delivered a continuing to to to deliver and I think this is a a stock that people are wanna have a a little bit out in the portfolio. Very good like it thank you for joining us today. Michael Robinson from the Motley Fool takers on those companies Marc Carroll has the ticker MKL. Work day with a ticker WD a Y buy and hold or monitor very closely after requiring. Which company both of then when you look because I look at those Marty would appear to be tree bark cal seems to be more of a hold company it does I think so based on their track record. Work day. You know with techie you generally don't wanna be in a tech company for two too long just because you see a lot of turnover sure do at the top of the off food chain there. And you know unless you're holding the best company out there for ten years. It it can be pretty Dicey proposition. Oil prices are down we've got oil at 3577. A barrel and should be back under two bucks a gallon for gasoline before you know it. Thanks for tuning in to this hour of the financial exchange from our insurer match dot com Steve. About on line growth trees beacons in her article. She thinks that the next e-commerce battleground is going to be that market that you just described talker on linger for so. It's going to be fascinating interview and hope you can stay list. Also fascinating. Is that you can now watch. Major League Baseball games on Yahoo!. For free every day. For the next six months. I think it's a bad deal. You do I think it's a bad deal the first problem is that games and your local market are blocked out. So if you are sitting in our team stinks anyway. So why do you care so why do you care about this. I did watch a San Diego game realty yes it's true you've got when I don't wish. Orca when you watch the company went bust I mean just sat down watched baseball national. I'm just I don't. It's it's it's it doesn't create a product for people to watch that no one's gonna sit down and say. Graham gonna watch the Yahoo! game. And I think you might be surprised that I think this is in no China I don't baseball fans I I know baseball I just a lot of guys arrow. There there that are gonna say you know a sit and you think about. You're in a place that has Wi-Fi. There's nothing else to do right. And you can sit around watch baseball I I I could see myself doing it but think about it baseball games the vast majority of them bar played at night okay how often you find yourself outside your home at night with needing to find something to do. And they did say that the wife she throws me out you know. If that's only a couple times a week that have Africa epic the other record elegant watch forty these games that it's. I just if it or something you know during the dammit I don't boasts a guy who like go pick up like the Bold and the Beautiful or something let me tell you that would make sense like that we tell you something they did that is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. They're going to be streaming the Warren Buffett Berkshire happily. That I like it's its UK you don't see that this it's like. It's as well I'm gonna go one day like I I I think you're wrong on Twitter with the NFL look at beat Andy you got that one wrong bats backwards. And I think you're wrong on this quite what you think I just think there's more of an appetite for streaming. Then there is he degeneration below you guys what they call you geysers when he generation next millennial any normal any as the wind blows the call crap. All the crap that's like all the crap federation cracked generation. DTV. They don't watch. Days even the weakness it's different you. Know appreciate if they have a better appreciation just for how. Rapidly our country's chaebol that that's the thing but they want rapidly so they're gonna go onto YouTube they're gonna go on line and get highlights and the cliff notes of the data wanted to send out more hours. Not like literally no one does anything for three hours and in those highlights as of now with baseball it's it's too long if if you could. Shorten it I'd say OK now maybe you've got something but it's too long the other thing the mistake but I think you're making is assume that just something you streamed people organ a lot. You two are both a despondent he too are both. Engaged. Educators right yes yes. What unit target by Ivan a lot of nieces that are teachers in public school systems and they told me there have been a heck of time. Getting kids to concentrate. In the said that the problem they're having. Is that these ya in the user if they're they're teaching like elementary school said the problem they're having. Is kids don't have an attention span namely the don't read a book because you know what they're Dylan. Is there watching television. They're playing with their phone. In airplane game on their iPad. And it's all the same time all the same time and they say they have our haven't won Dickens of a problem I was curious if educators out there. Are experiencing that's it that you eat we have sold it. And I'm guilty of it. Right my wife makes me watch these crappy TV shows great so what do I do. I've I've played I've got my iPad go on and I played this game play risk on my game and I Erisa. And and then I among my photo of checking FaceBook posting pictures. And occasionally while abortion some of these kids I still could I think there's a generation coming guys I really think is this generation but if there's reverend Smartphones only been around. Eight years yeah. It's gonna be the non item that's been the norm that's the problem I think it's a problem because your have a difficult time educating kids in the same fashion. That's why I think baseball's not the answer baseball is like the slow like the only thing that you could put on that would be less appealing to. The craft generation and baseball who would be. What what like golf you know I'm like I'm trying to think now I like golf a lot of golf like the masters weekend coming up as pro in my favor weakened the European it is now mine too. Because it gets for Sammy to get barbecue out and everything you just kind of fall asleep couple Beers here and there. Outstanding. I I think that whole education thing that are talked about is it is a big problem. And it's coming it'll be coming to the surface you'll hero on the literally the next three years completely. Like the teapot circus that seems to be the the service of choice. Before we go to our guest give your first for your question of the hour. How many home runs did Carl Yastrzemski hit in his Triple Crown year of 1967. New top question. 686 it is our text number how many home runs it Carl Yastrzemski hit in his Triple Crown year of 1967. All right our guest is Kim Nash and she is a student of the online grocery business. And she wrote an article. You are ready yesterday but we couldn't get her on as a guest until today hi Kim are you. Good morning I'm doing well Harry ill. Great thanks for joining us so. Talk to us about the on line. Growth free business I've never done it but it sounds like here RO it's a big battleground in the next big battleground for e-commerce. I think it is yes because if you think about it everybody that and everybody's kind of Smart. And it felt Wal-Mart. On down Amazon and Google eve then and then a traditional players like peep. Gary are we have faster act. Probably a bunch of players that want to. Capture that market as it grows certainly not everybody shopped for groceries on time that it isn't growing part. What people do want. How rapidly is that segment of the market growing him. Oh fax recently did. Their eight day that they Wear every year. That they. Without US consumers. Whether they. Groceries I'm fine. And last year and my. Purse and they're total oil and groceries which say they want my. It's grown from about 40% twenty and two last year's almost 49%. It would it change up. Kim for for for folks like me. I I I'm kind of old fashioned like this and I guess apple and at 50% that hasn't yet. Is this something that is eventually going to replace grocery stores or are we not seeing. Who do we have dollar values on the numbers you know and number of groceries that are being sold European sales. Really at question. Keep hot. Is probably the biggest player in the area are only two I oil hole which also got a shot and Chinese market. And they keep their revenue figures pretty close to that next. I say that more people. It's not mine traditional markets have to figure out and eat our strategy again. What is what is the the single biggest reason. For the shift is just time saving and and obviously we talk about that with other online ordering or their other benefits to online groceries that I don't know about just as I haven't tried. It. It's certainly. Keep. And it and it ends its eight day high. Street which is the bulk of their. Wal-Mart on the other hand and making plane order consumers to. Ike shot on mobile app that won Oscars or web site. Come to a Wal-Mart store parking lot and pick up and that it directly into their car. Locating his fatigue factor you can also get discounts not available to. Comes in person shoppers is peas and. One other question that I have is out one thing that I do use right now is. With Amazon. They allow you to subscribe to certain goods that you can get on a repeated basis paper towels toilet paper you can get them delivered every month two months whatever may be. Did any of these services have similar things for food at this point where you say. I need three boxes of cereal every week or month or whatever it is and you can automate that so you don't have to go in every week or month. I haven't seen that I think the closest they come is. Noticed what you do purchased on line and then unplugging it would make suggestions it's been about. Two weeks which I you're Cherie. Which I like to order that and hoping to our couple bait shop being. Chapter in that way. And in what you're describing terms of these subscription service. How much of a premium do you pay for pea pod to have it delivered to your house is it. Twenty bucks a delivery years it 10% of the gross out as a work. It very and vary depending on the time of day. If you're more flexible to achieve. Lake waiting for the cable guys are twelve eyes have a large window of time you can be at home to meet either it's cheaper. If you want more narrow window on more popular diet Smart and I think the delivery. Cost ranges on AB. Four and I mean I have to. You have to be applied. Why do you have to be hauled to accept the delivery. The delivery person comes to your house and we'll pray all the bad and cheered kitchen this year ordering perishable don't want them sitting on your front app. And continue to target the time can you say. I know I'm not gonna get home from work till 530 so I want it delivered its sixers in a bigger window than that. She's pretty. The actual hourly now. Two and I have to try to try. Can thank you very much retirement per share. It was my pleasure thank you. You know he the thing I would want I guess right is I'd like to be able to go on. It now right it's it's 1130 wouldn't it be great if you could go on and you say gee I know I have to work till. 530 tonight I'm not gonna get home till 630. I'd like to have the groceries delivered at 645 is an all be homer but my wife will be home at 645. That's that's kind of the targeted service do on the weekend. What I do on the weekend most people grocery shop plays risk yeah. The pirates had no idea adamantly I go swimming idea. That's around is this still at it but always got a pool in our town it's terrific but the earliest I I'd. I don't like to shop and and I think this is for busy famine managing your well both you guys to both of working girlfriends right. But I love food ya so DD so you you like going to the very first or C I tried likes people to. I love food I mean like. I like going and like she mistakes I can figure at the exact marveling that I want based on like that kind of neat I like this you know like idea that I agree with that. Amid mild so maybe this deal may be this is now slower. E-commerce channel to develop its site at any takes longer they're going to be people that go forward just because they don't. Care about food the same way that I do right by your passion IE that's the Italian. Yeah again I spent four hours on Friday cooking meat balls sauce and pasta while. So so you can try a service like a blue apron where this and you rob. Like meals and I try to be there it was and I think Greg I think I get frustrated because I just kind of like to play around with stuff we kind of you know aren't thrown against the wall and see what happens for my wife loved. But it's not like forty minutes to make the meal I was born and wasn't enough for now I'm still hungry. I'd like that I like to kind of do a whole big against the im talking with my hands if you need Xenia Ohio and. Those hands away and now. They Tesla. And are at their shares are doing now but they were down earlier. And the the only delivered global. 141820. Cars. And you know. I wanna remind everybody they just took orders for 300000. Model threes and they can't even deliver 151000 cars quarter and they have to deliver. They they've got to do they owe 300000 vehicles. Yeah the the big issue that they said here was that they had and they came and said look we made the model X too complicated and we can't produce it in high enough numbers right now. And it's it's a real problem they should charge more for two. The public could have charged more. But it's that this is the big issue that you have with with any type of ambitious manufacturing like this give a company that's never done large large scale manufacturing before what they're doing right now. Is a drop in the bucket compared to what they want to do they're trying to scale up ten time title in the next four years and that's just something. Execution has to be perfect. And they're trying to do it in the United States. In the united highest cost of manufacturing zone then you've got you've got a company do manufacturing for the first time in a high cost environment with the product that is unproven. I did you see I disagree with you there you have an even tried it's. How how could you say it's proven the the collective market for. Electric cars in the US historically right now is a 100000 a year it's unproven. Still people like obviously. Doesn't mean that people are gonna buy. Maybe they just put orders and for 300000 now you can get the car for years now you got to do that. Four more times can be the next five years now anyway their shares are down earlier than actually positive territory now up next we're talking about Vegas. This is very Armstrong and I'm joined by estate planning attorney pot luck ski from law firm Cushing in Dolan. Were talking about iPods new guide called dean mystifying trusts. And here's a question often arises Todd. Is it possible to protect your children's inheritance. From a future divorce and talking about the divorce of the parents. But you leave half a million dollars to your daughter and ten years after your demise she ends up going through divorce is it possible. To protect the money that you left to future generations from their potential divorce. You know that's a great question and the answer is yes in a nutshell let me explain and why it's so important you hit the nail on the head variance with a state tax exemptions federally being so high more and more money is getting to the children sure and so when they're getting it we need to figure out how best they should receive it we don't wanna just dump it in their hands because if we don't exactly what you said could happen -- dumped half a million dollars and and in a child's hand and they get a divorce five years after you're gone they're going to be left with 250 on a good day they're gonna lose a big child it was a big chunk of their assets. So the important thing is that if you haven't set up in a trust. You can you can design the trust in a way so that the child can continue to receive money. In the other trustees' discretion. And enjoy it for themselves they're kids so grandchildren. And if our creditors in them that other trustee will not exercised her discretion to make a distribution so it's protected. And it will get to the next generation if they tax free it won't be included in the kids is neither. Ari Las Vegas. The bill late if you have been to the MGM where the the arena that I have that that's a nice to read that they liked it I thought I was Karina excellent is and I heart concert there now they built a new one. For hockey rink in there and have a hockey team. Yeah I mean I think the big thing the MGM arena I think is what does that Tucker a 2530 years old somewhere around my old. So around it's not bad it's getting a little bit weathered at this point I think. But they are they did build the sub brand new op facility there this arena called the the T-Mobile arena and it seats 20000 people so it's a little bit bigger than the MGM one which I think has he were seventeen wasn't going to happen in big seventeen so it's a little bit bigger than that and the big thing here is it does have a an anchor tenant at this point doesn't have a hockey team or it doesn't have. Basketball team there now there's hope that they may potentially be able to get in NHL franchise right there. But they said you know what we're gonna build us anyways and they're projecting it's gonna bring in about 900 million dollars in revenue for concerts and things like that that comes through the curtain. I think it's. Yeah you can certainly make the make the case that it would just is Vegas is such a busy area anyways and if you bring a big concert in there but the he'd probably be able to get some pretty significant performers come and the route just honored on a read only now aces. Big question is whether it's professional sports team will allow. Their team to be located in and whether illegal allow eighteen because the team that's really struggling. Is the Phoenix Coyotes yes and the rumor is they're gonna leafy within a brand new race to beautiful rink right in the right spot there's nobody goes to hockey games. Yeah it was a lay up miscalculation by the NHL put that franchise there it's never been able to the now twenty years have been yeah I'd I was gonna say it was like mid nineties right when they first moved there. And it's it's pretty much time I think for them to reconsider. Our to consider putting them somewhere else. Biggest has been discussed I think the last couple years owners' meetings. And it seems like the NHL is on the verge. Of being able to say look we understand the the stigma around Vegas but. We'd rather have a team there. And honestly I think it team in Vegas gives you all kinds of options because he gets only people coming in from out of town that you get out of town fans that are going in to see their home team and so. For well I think what you'd also have is the casinos would buy tickets and comp and oh yeah I mean you think about the corporate side would be huge. They died Cushing handle their sponsor of our show and they are a law firm. They have created a document that's available to you for the month of April in April. Food stamps are going to be tougher to get in 2016. Than they have been in the past. Yet it's the expectation is you're gonna see about a million people drop off the food stamp rolls the big reason being. That folks between eighteen and 49 who were not disabled or raising children. Who only get. And or qualify for the program for three months out of a three year period which makes a lot of sense of your healthy and able to work you should be working. Unless obviously if you have kids or disability okay. The problem is Wal-Mart relies pretty significantly on food stamp revenue in order to while make a lot of their sales they are. Half of religiously as I understand that's half of Wal-Mart business. Comes from. Welfare. Yep and it's it's because they they are dominated by a low income shoppers. And the thought here is that they're gonna have to overcome all of the loss of some of the shoppers just because they are not going to have. That food stamp income coming in anymore. To Wal-Mart stock down 62 cents I don't know that it's on the news trading at 6848. Per share are now I know it's a stock that John Mooney to talk to John about it next time these young. On an Iraqi of the story or not but did in New York Times wrote a story about star starters is a channel as I remember. That I used to get on DirecTV. And it had shows like outlander. And power. They're now going to offer that service the stars channel if you will. As an app on your phone our guests an app on your television for nine dollars. Other go over the top just like HBO did with HBO go recently eaten and it's it's. This is where these companies are going here's the issue that they're going to run into and what it is that all these companies are going to run into is. If you start paying 899 for this 899 for that 899 for this. Eventually get to a point where you're actually paying more for TV while. Is it better than Netflix whose my question do you guys like you start with the stars product be superior 'cause I think for a guy like me. I would subscribe to one of close but I'm not gonna subscribe to six or two or three. Yeah I I wouldn't either I don't know McGee Tucker I actually just. Got through Amazon prime Mac got the showtime. And oh did you eat any animal though did it. Yet just trying to elect elect the content Showtime's and that's one wrote I did they give it to you for free for a period of time or did you get a there was this free seven day trial. And they were just re automatically renew it now how much content is on their relative to Netflix. This amount content again it's everything that showtime as ever aired so there's hole and their shameless batters the new shall billions as the budget content out there. But just like what. Content to you prefer do you prefer HBO usually did you twos in the cupid. I get a little sick and Netflix right so like he'd cancel my Netflix subscription gave us a little trial and I'll yeah Sunday tragic. That the one thing in and I am an advocate of on bundling but the thing you have to understand that on bundling at a certain level. Does keep cost down because if there are ninety million people with ESPN. The people who watch it don't have to pay as much for OK if you start to say OK I'm gonna pay five for this five that. Most people watch more than we have three to five channels you know so. When you start getting up to people who watch things from you know ten to fifteen channels. The cost is gonna be just about the same if not more along. Yeah I think the need to take a different perks like its stars thing for me if it was two bucks a month. I'm try they won't make enough money on them that's the problem that's and that's. That's kind of medicine the crux of the issue when he talked about on bundling is so it would NASA right like I will I'm not pain for some like a native Dave there's not they have that I'd say no I mean honestly I am. Probably either this year or early next you're cutting the cord and it's because everything I watch I don't yeah. I don't need TV honestly considering cutting the cord centers Everett's doctors are remind you that you guys are following me I did this district I'd like lemmings off a cliff aren't lemmings off the how dumb as your boss. Not very. Series and I ask is. There's a new strategy. Then it's being embraced by cyber thieves and and if this doesn't scare you. Yet this is a bet on. But what Weight Watchers is just only one they're being at least sixty probably more companies that have already fallen victim to this scam and it it. Including PerkinElmer which adapted yeah skillet. So how does the scam work. Well it could very low tech. And that which is what makes it is so pervasive that basically the bad guy except that he now account. Went to the CEOs game and maybe one letter off in the eighty email address. Said did you GO in payroll target geo knows is joke is targeted jello and is entertainment CEO it says joke. I needed WQ formed Robin's you know all of our employees from 2015. GO being made.
