It's time for the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong in Kim Keller again from Wall Street to your street Barry and -- have got you covered peaks the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and gene Kerrigan. Hello Louis live and welcome. Today morning it's terrific to have you with us I have an interesting ride in today. Shall all I was gonna ask you got caught on the in the 93 traffic you know I got to tell you. For those of you who may be. I don't know what happened this morning on line 93 and the expressway in the Boston area we have protesters in the middle way in the middle of the yeah morning rush going northbound. Any word. I guess tied themselves to be canisters. Is that it Eric how are stressing drums. Draw it was got to be a big you're big god metal drums like an oil barrel filled out concrete pretty much cast. Your head when you're tying yourself to the the drama and all in an outing did nothing to eat pray nothing. Let me. Understand that they've got an issue and they wanna get some attention but this is how you get people on your side not hardly you know this look if if I'm sitting there. If if I'm sitting there and saying okay you know is this of a valuable issue that I want to address or not. You lying in the middle of the road during our hour work I don't want to be associated with that now if you come and say OK here you here's my issue I wanna talk back. Different story but you lying in the middle of the road what what does that make anyone who's on the fence want to actually do. It makes him want to run you over and attached to eager. 12100 pound problem. And I let it let cocktail back of the car while that's that's exactly it while I heard just moments ago that that. There's still going to a certain extent I thought the cocaine arrested everyone who's involved I don't think it's completely out of the traffic's going to be messed up the whole. What partly I guess I did not hit traffic. Only because I got through before they under the rug because I don't come that way. Lot of that would backed everything up all the way north you know that even though that was south of the city yup that back and all the way through I would've known. Such as it sorry I'm late today about someone was sitting on nine victory. So it is that it's just it's not effective protest tactic it doesn't make anyone want to learn more about it just makes people want and not like Q that's apps. Now anyway crazy day of traffic that broadcast coming your way this morning of folks and we're gonna talk here just he knew what we do we get earnings reports and share with you also have. Unemployment numbers I hate to tell you this week when the markets just in time off and that that's an understatement. Jobless claims. Up. Fourth month they rise four on a four month high. Yup and tapes. It does but when you look at where we are okay at this point and the big thing to keep in mind is. You know this first of all week to week readings tend to be pretty volatile we typically like to look at the four week moving average of her and obviously you back above that 300000 mark which it's not great but you've moved up you know essentially about. 4% when it's all said and done. It's not a huge move there I think on and when you look at some of the supporting numbers I don't think there's anything huge to be well I. About reflective of this thing you know I kind of anticipate this in the first couple weeks of January this is reflective seasonal work that goes away number one. Is reflective of our construction jobs during his fists to the weather's not seek a couple weeks here where you have those kinds of issues. I don't think these numbers are particularly bad I know here on the show we pre. Mean it would frequently say this why stay below 350000. You're pretty good shape yeah I think it's just would you. When you compound this if we had four days of the market being down it it really dramatic fashion. We've got this oil issues that while it's great for me is consumer. It certainly continues to leave question marks in everyone's mind and now we've got fourth quarter earnings reports. And they're not coming in all that great which started of course with the financials. Bank of America now reporting today they they really 14%. They were down on their profits yet. In the end and work in the bags pretty much to a tee aside from Wells Fargo yesterday. Really haven't seen very strong revenues that they're trading revenues have been down pretty much across the board. And when you look at this it certainly has not been a good quarter for the financial sector I think that. What I'm most interested in seeing is not so much what you see at a these companies here but. How other companies are going to guide forward based on oil being down so much because when you look at companies. Especially those that are involved that's much transportation companies but companies that are in manufacturing that have large whether you're talking about vehicles to ship computers things like that I'm curious what it starts doing with their margins and let her there able cling to potentially died a little bit stronger over the next year now when you look at the price of oil having come down. That is obviously a net positive for. The US economy as a whole but again you look at the energy sector not so good if you're involved there and we're starting to see now. Is in places like Texas in the B Dakotas you're starting to actually see. Layoffs happening simply due to their not being worked at this point since there aren't as many projects going in the ground right now right there simply aren't capital expenditure is down significantly it's projected to be down significantly this year. And that's just a factor. Just based on the fact that it's not profitable to be drilling new wells if you have an artist. And no absolutely right. Well. And could be somewhat reflected in those numbers that we have unemployment numbers who got ten and a number of people who were starting to lose their jobs in some of those. Locations I was watching is wearing a coat day starting to see. Some job layoffs up there and so I I think you know and we've done this all along we knew that this was going to be the fallout. From the kind of gas prices were painfully last night 209 in harm's sky actually that's really low because the book on the North Shore it's typically. And you know five cents. Maybe even eight cents higher than it is everywhere else so I was really surprised at 209 so that just keeps on part where where's wealth when you look. Added this morning you know it's it's pretty much sitting there. Right around where it's being about 47 and for any kind of in that range so it appears that there's a temporary bottom that's in place right now. I'm hesitant to say that this is going to be something that last just because there's nowhere near enough stability in this market at this point to be able. To definitively say that we. He has seen these temporary bottoms and they do seem to pop up but about Wednesday in the last Wednesday Thursday maybe Friday near its studies forbidden we seem to down so yeah. Rare quickly we wanna send out little warning we like to keep people informed about stadiums and this was actually handed to me just moments before we went on the year from. I'm somewhat here office and this is actually coming out of East Bridgewater but this is a scam that everybody needs to keep in mind there's a veteran their needs Bridgewater says they're getting. A phone call from the net not to stay battered by the way there's a number of them there. Who are receiving phone calls from someone who's identifying themselves as calling from the veterans choice hard. Okay the veterans choice card they're asking the veteran they're speaking to. For our current credit card number and what they're trying to do is there room they're reserving some funds. Four that veterans upcoming appointment. So if you're a veteran and maybe you are you have an appointment or obviously will have some kind of appointment meaning it doctor's appointment. In the near future what they're doing is they're finding this out they're calling in their asking for credit card numbers claiming. That they need to reserve funds so that your point is now. While now folks let me say something to you here. The veterans administration V8 cents. They never reach out to you over the it's never there never gonna call you and asking for credit card they're not gonna ask you to reserve funds for an upcoming appointment. If you get this kind of call hang up immediately called the attorney general's office or call that the administration. And report because this is. Faults but that's don't give much credit card. Yeah that that's the best thing that you can do is simply hang up shall call you back and then call back the VA number that you know that you walk through before. And speak to someone there to see if it's actually legitimate if he again was something like this pretty clear that it's not they'll never ask for your credit card number it did just ran off the bat there it doesn't make any sense. But you know what they're doing tucked. In a lot of these cases cute the skier these matters because they've already had this huge scare associated with getting priced right right so they're scaring veterans by. Claiming that if you don't give us your credit card number we can't guarantee that we knew coming in for the appointment that appointment will still exist right that's frightening now it's it's absolutely. Terrible its I mean this stuff like this it's it's some of the most despicable stuff that you can see out there preying on people. Who are already nervous because of what they've seen historically. And again if you do get one of these calls simply hang up and call back and number that you know that you have written down from prior experience that's the best thing that you can do absolutely. All right we're gonna take apart now when we come back China where it talks this has. Is that such an effect on markets here and around the world and that's what's happening with the Swiss franc to. Absolutely it's going to be a major story in and release of the unexpected that we're gonna be touching on. And up fortunately we organism from Bloomberg joining us after the break the world record when you're listening to the financial exchange. Barry Armstrong and can carry them. Right here on the financial exchange radio network. According to a recent survey conducted by Genworth the average cost of nursing home care in Massachusetts is a 134000. Right effective November 4 2014 this is very Armstrong and I'm joined today by estate planning attorney Todd let's keep from the law firm Cushing in Dolan. It's time for your legal exchange quick tip of the day. We're talking today about the different ways that you can only real state and Todd I wanted to ask you this one. What are the implications of transfer your home see just take your home and you give it to your children. In order to protect it from the nursing my ex he had somebody asked me this yesterday sixty years old. In the heard about this thing transferring music like this. Yeah I kind of mix my teeth itch. Really you know GAAP putting your kid's name on anything while you're living is frightening with or without the light for states a year question was interesting it was. At least using a life estate does provide the parent the right to live there that some protection I I feel better about that. But I really don't like having the children's name. On any property. For the following reasons one when you do that it's a completed gift to you've lost all control over your order anymore. I worry about if the kids go through divorce and ex son in law the ex daughter and when your house like. Number three is it you know Ali you know I don't you've now subjective and as you just said Barry took their creditors and doesn't necessarily have to be divorced as he could be a lawsuit business failure and could be any creditor so they don't basically that creditor has the ability to get the asset to pay them back which means you lose your home I certainly don't like that idea not to mention there's also a tremendous amount of tax problems associated with doing that so don't don't do that. Our rate I've got some advice. Or you learn the best way to own and protect your home your vacation home in your rental property. Call for Cushing and old brand new guide to the risks and rewards of real estate ownership 8668. Story 5699. That's. 8668. Horry. 5699. Barry Armstrong and came Gehrig hit him on the financial exchange radio network. Welcome back definitely great to have you weakness on. Hey moment for me swift's break. The move that this was bring made. Which has sort of set markets on image for all around the world certainly. And we'll talk about that just moment but first let's get our first review question out there what's the first. Eight to be accepted into the use. Of this I do now. I do know I am quite familiar with this one I won't give it away that would do Texas at 68680 if you do know the answer. And we are now going to turn to really what one of the major stories that is breaking today in this is what is happening in Switzerland and here to join us. We have John and John I'm sorry I'm not gonna be ought to pronounce your last name correctly how how do you actually say it. It and it's it's out of that you and they were like you're and they know what that. Settlers. I'm gonna Oregon it's so the next time we have beyond I'll be able to say it but I've got that you're joining us from Bloomberg and what exactly has happened overnight in Switzerland here. Well written an epic currency pact bureau kind of to protect the string from getting too strong and hurting export. And all the time that what is pressure mounting and at the national thing because that hack what kind of a natural thing. To kind of remove the panic. To date they remove that. Well kind of a pardon me but Ole notebook clues that are trying to strengthen the Euro is on parity. During and compare to the dollar and then. Our market went down considerably. And that it's been that they let me tell you. What was there any warning of this from the Swiss Central Bank it all mean this it seemed like there was no talk of this. And it came out of nowhere. It really came out of nowhere only a few days ago the First National Bank re confirm that they will. Fight or protect the pack at all caught. Of course they what they had to do and the hats yet the price. But the market reaction to date book book book incredible talk to. If you expect says nobody expected that because bankers and let. Everybody about the size. Yeah and in I've spoken to a couple of folks over in London that said. That you're seeing hedge funds and banks that have taken. Nine figure losses essentially because they were not hedged for this type of move it seems like this is going to have a major effect. On European financials correct. Totally bank where one of the bigger loop today. Nobody expected it and they did a lot. And a lot of money today because I look at what level there you know market and that what they're packed in Europe. But everybody was saying that the only thing is that there's been a polite and probably. The pact was broken. And the grip strength increased in value and that hurt a lot of people actually the financial. Also like oh yeah export oriented companies and learn and then at it if it is the well it was quote. Unheard of but on the hurdle. Yeah on the European Union have any kind of recourse here. Well. But they don't have a record. Am I old but back then and that's just. My personal opinion and it have to be like that as the First National Bank talked to the European Central Bank about a four. Property over the they didn't do it just. On their own. And that's how the national banks should work. I am but let me every but he outplayed the national bank were very much but they're a record. So what where when you look at this. What are some of the reasons why the Swiss would've wanted to do this it seemed like again they this is something that. Very clearly. Causes some major problems in Switzerland what what exactly is the rationale behind this. Well yeah I'd yeah it is that you've been absolutely because it kind of been not a natural. Measured compact currency especially in the functioning. Economy like for an airplane is it the country that Buddha and our. Emerging market country they would act the current order are well who get the ability to their market. Can't equipment normally doesn't do that but the first and a appreciate in Belmont that it became problem. Portrait export. And for the pack and a fact that the brick in the tree to be competitive internationally. But it always kind of clear that. He eventually undermine. They have to get rid of the hat. Nobody expected that two days people work and out there and contemplating maybe in a year or two when the fifth ranked financial. Change traded for thank. With the around the world and to let that all heck and UH but. We've been second. Thanks appreciate it by about Annika and but still below the level and then it it apt to be seeing maybe the recruits who wrote. To really see the effect. Maybe it going back up to refute the people that the moment we go read at an indication that that that the that the whole thing work. All right well John I appreciate all the and we're certainly. Something that I think all this woke up to today and were pretty surprised by but thank you again for all the information and will certainly be chatting with you in the futures while. And epic spectacle Muster. All right that was gone small beef from Bloomberg and what this is something that if it. It doesn't make sense to me because. What you what the Swiss Central Bank did hear what what they did is came out and said OK we've been expanding our monetary base at the same rate as Europe. And now we're gonna do is simply on a dime stop that it would this is equivalent to. If the Federal Reserve had stopped quantitative easing immediately and said look we're not doing a late were not doing anything else right with no war on. And gives it that it's it's almost a bigger move just because again this was a peg that. There was no indication that this was going to be broken it was if everything was pointing towards this happening. And I think what you're gonna see here what they're if you go and look over in Europe right now and and I've talked to some folks that are over there and you're seeing some macro hedge funds over there that have taken. Absolute brat on on this move here today and you're gonna see. You know hedge funds that go out of business community banks that all kinds of trading losses they have to write down as in this. This is not something that is just go into effect today it's gonna spill overture and affect the rest of the Euro program. And it it was a shock this morning when people got to happen and found out that this had occurred and I think a young pretty much made that very clear that. There was not a lot of discussion and they thought this would be something that would happen and you yourself. Or sell. And literally don't you just wonder behind closed doors I mean there was some kind of conversation that. We're gonna take this this bold step up and oil and look this is that this had to have known that what the repercussions were gonna be right the fallout. This is the threat and the concern that people have when it comes to central banks is that their unpredictable from time to time. And that if you end up you know simply getting content with where you are of getting hurt pretty badly just based on the decision. Of a small group of people and you don't know what they're looking you don't you're not involved in that process and I think that certainly when you look at this again I don't understand it right now I think. That you know the major concern and always been. We don't wanna let the franc appreciate too much because it's hurting our ability to export yes that situation is not change right now the only thing you can really look at is if they look at what's going on in recent and really the rest of the Euro zone and say okay. There's going to be more easing then we want to do here. I can understand that but there's still no reason to do it all once bright you can you can say okay we're gonna maintain a current level and gradually let the peg weekend. I just I don't understand her at all how well do what's especially when he said just a couple weeks ago that you ward going to get. It doesn't compute and there's just I don't understand that might be the. The most concerning part of the whole thing something that there's no transparency here and something has has changed behind closed doors that made. Damn make this decision correct and that's what we don't know that CN known fact correct that's very concern you know. No idea as to what it is and you know the only thing again even you look at what the frank did against the dollar today it's strengthened against the dollar so it's not like they're trying. Simply say okay we want you know a strong franc to compete with that it it makes zero sense of right at all here. It really doesn't. Well this is a story will be watching and no doubt will have effects on markets certainly for the rest of this week and we'll probably see it as you say for a long time coming we'll take a break every when you're listening to the financial exchange. This is the financial exchange on the financial exchange radio network. Investors searching for relatively low risk investment that can easily be converted into cash often turn to certificates of deposits or CDs leader bank is currently offering an eighteen month CD with an impressive one point 25% EPY for new accounts with these kinds of rates now as an ideal time to take advantage of this great opportunity from leader bank to learn more about the eighteen month CD with a one and a quarter percent APY call 8776917. 900 today or visit one of leader banks conveniently located branches in Arlington Belmont Cambridge or Burlington earned more interest on your money today stopped by a leader bank branch or call 8776917900. Well I mean in middle and Washington I certainly you perfect storm. I was at a Gloucester mass audience they can't answer. And her from Plymouth so he didn't. Right around the corner I wish it was each I was Suze beach towel and woke up this morning nasal that dusting of snow on the car that's you know makes you slow down just a little bit because you got to get it all off there it's. No I simply warm the car up and justly in this in the driveway for a couple minutes just got to get warmed up in Naples on the defrost her new general sense you get to go in talk about. All different New England states and I got some kind of bad news for reference in Rhode Island today I really like this on I mean I dislike us a lot. It turns at the Rhode island's Porsche to residents can expect to pay nearly twice as much in their income tax in the state. As the 1%. In that state. Now that data which was recently released. Makes RI the fifth worst in the country for taxes when it comes to people who were pour. They were ninth worst two years ago so they've moved up in the rankings which is not good all of this done by. The institute on taxation. And economic policy. So it turns out that Rhode islanders whose income. Places them in the lowest 20% of wage earners pay twelve point 5%. As opposed to those who live in Rhode Island and who are in the 1%. And they paid six point 3%. Yeah and really the reason for this it's not because Rhode islander any other state has tax system that. Directly is intended to tax people with lowering comes more really. It's a build up of things like the sales tax excise tax on vehicles. Usage fees for pole roads and things like that so. When you add all of those up those obviously have a much bigger impact on folks that are out lower income and so that's how you end up with this level. Of taxation or it's not because road I'll Wear out and said okay we're gonna do regressive tax that actually is intended to tax these people more. It's because grounds and OK we're gonna have a progressive tax in terms of basic income tax. But the problem is sales tax is the same forever one that's right you know automotive fees are the same reverend licenses everything there your tolls at the same and that unfortunately impacts people much more. At the lower end of the spectrum is of course it's a great study actually that just came out and really the data across the entire countries fascinating to look at them and you know it just shows that. You know the pure rate of taxation. Isn't as simple as just saying okay here's my income tax and that's it. You have to factor in all of these other rookies and that's you know something that's where a lot of people don't take into account. Sure absolutely so again that is on the bed them the poorest residents those 20%. The lowest residents 20% the lowest paid residents in that state. Will be paying as much as 12% of their income to. Yeah acts now Signet significantly higher than I think most people you know expect to deceive the people in the in those lower income brackets. Did you see about it's inevitable that you RadioShack. Good going out of business knowledge get ready to well they have for bankruptcy have now they have a potential lifeline has some of their creditors now he's it's really interesting because they've pretty much been only been operating the last six months because some of their creditors. Are also investors there in the treatment trying to keep the company like bloat in order to make money off them so there. It's it's a really interesting situation but does appear they will be filing for bankruptcy shortly according to the Wall Street Journal. And I think that the speed at which this is taken place. Really says something about just how were their management has been. Well they're trying to get a private equity firm to buy their assets in bankruptcy. Apparently that's an initiation it's going on right now. They had to speak his could be as soon as next month. I'm surprised it's next next week I thought it would have been last year quite frankly. You're right you know some of those creditors who have invested in the company in an effort to just keep the darn thing afloat and it would be some kind of money some value the money it now they're not gonna get you know that it says that it's on and no way there is a rumor that he. RadioShack. May not go away in its entirety just will not be what we know to be now. Certainly would be scaled back dramatically but if you may like to sort of almost making. The small distribution center we know for scaled back RadioShack to be compared well I agree 100% I I I don't. I don't think of RadioShack when I think about wanting to go out and buy some kind of electronic device I don't ever RadioShack. It a little strip mall where I grocery shop and I still don't think. When I think of RadioShack I think about OK any cables Wheeler I'm gonna go to RadioShack I I think and and did would you or would you go Home Depot. You know honestly it would. At this for so that's that's the only reason I don't think I would order it online I. Yeah I mean I'm I'm not going to RadioShack or any reason it's a company that has no competitive advantage over any any wonder it's competing against it's a company that is running an outdated business model now and then try to go out and spend votes money and is allowed to try to look good. And it was out it and it you're you're you're hemorrhaging cash flow you're hemorrhaging cash how are you going on spending millions on Super Bowl and shocked by the fact that. RadioShack still has a lot of occasions. They still a big East Coast 8000. Like it's easy and try to to scale back. In an effort to say no and it was just really bad business and you look at other companies other retailers that have been able to turn themselves around and reposition themselves duel by simply saying okay we're gonna plow ahead and do the same thing. They say we'll take take the example staples from last year right. Staples said look our retail stores are doing great our online is still decent we have good commercial business but scale back our retail. And what happened shareholders have been rewarded because that so it's you have to look at ways that you can adapt your business not just keep pat yourself on the head with a hammer. And saying OK eventually won't hurt that doesn't. Anything that they'll eventually will be so you do the pain that would be a big blow comes just don't notice it now or you don't even know we are even get a notice that it happened which. I guess the big blows up. And it was very surprised about this she's yours. Filing bankruptcy. Well and when you look at the so several subsidiaries. For of caesar's have filed for bankruptcy in Chicago court. And you know this is a company. That when you look at it they're really looking to restructure a lot of the debt that they've unfortunately taken on they went through a ton of expansion. And the problem is that if that expansion doesn't bring in the revenue that's expected. You end up stop with his big pile of debt it doesn't do you any good year year essentially again hemorrhaging cash because of that debt so you know unfortunately this is. It's pretty typical in real estate businesses that expand to want to quickly and you end up seeing this and it really is just it. You'd like to see these people eventually learn a lesson and say OK I can only expand so quickly. And debt is in the best way to do it right but unfortunately you end up with these over leveraged companies because they see. Dollar signs flashing out there they run projections that are realistic and this is what ends up. Happening just think they could have been part of the the landscape here in Massachusetts. Yup. Yup absolutely look at this now I think we should be very relieved that that the case now they're making it very clear that. You know businesses are up and running like normal if you got. If you're booked into caesar's palace in Vegas don't worry you won't even know that this is happening. I'm sure that's probably true but even still that's not the kind of investment that you stay away and I don't completely blew I mean imagine if you're working for Caesars that you're going to be in this and we'll do quality you know had across the street to the MGM or something right to outlook for new job because I don't know that's situations going to be coming out of this ballot and I don't know that I wanna books something at Caesars for next fall. Right here that they filed for bankruptcy could probably at great rates so it is F a or maybe we'll have to scour out NC we can dig up and. Our look like a record or illicit financial exchange. Well best in business is right here Barry arm stroke and can carry him on the financial exchange radioed Edwards. Welcome back everyone of the financial exchange on this Thursday morning on the throughout our next to a trivia question before we get torn next guess what he's the capital. Of Delaware. If you know that you can Texas it's X 8680. Which led to hear from this morning we are pleased to hear from pre outcome McCloskey she is from the Boston Globe and she's here to talk to us a little bit about what's been going on. In Quincy with their hospital down there this has been an ongoing story that we have covered here in the financial exchange it looks like. They finally come to some kind of agreement for those of you who are not familiar the Quincy medical center was bought by Stewart health. Couple of years ago and out of the clear blue they announced that they were closing the hospital down there had been an agreement that they could deuce though. That there had to be a certain amount of time that they keep that hospital open. And they they went into talks with then Attorney General Martha Coakley. And it appears that they have come out with some kind of resolution and freon is here to talk to us a little bit about how are you. I'm well thanks terrific so it's. This has been ongoing. And they finally come up with some agreement and what he's an agreement pre market. So yesterday an Attorney General Martha Coakley announced that agreement and she's basically requiring. Skewered to keep an emergency crew in Akron. Eight years until the end of this year. If they want to close at emergency rooms next year they have to prove to help officials that is not being. Used an option picked it doesn't need to be around anymore. Now your original agreement with Stewart because it's been difficult to understand why she's allowing them to close at hospital at all. Right now a lot of people have been instead about the response. So we've got sent back. You know even experts that have looked. The situation in Queens he agreed that it's not really getting enough patients to justify sticking around Ann and running at full operation. I'm still back into when he eleven and when Stuart. Acquired Quincy medical center they signed this contract with. The attorney general Coakley and be agreed they would not closed the hospital until at least 2017. Though. They ended up closing in about three years. I had back. I know the deal that could be reached attack yesterday. Doesn't have any fines are their penalty is by. Did the new deal does include a penalty if they failed to meet these new requirements so. I'm now now the attorney general's office we'll have the power to find skewered if they try to coach emergency crews currently. And why could they not find them for. Essentially breaking the contract because again the contract said they had keep that hospital open until 2017. Right what it it's unclear if state. Have the power to do that or they just felt it wasn't necessary. You know it depends on the link would that was and that the original contract. What they're saying now is we do you have the power to find them going forward if they don't meet these require. What's the reaction in Quincy because they're losing their hospital there. Right that there's been I'll let people events that include the especially a lot of elderly people who are used to having a hospital close by. They feel a little less secure without clothing but I think keeping the emergency room out and has been. A lot of people in the community find that to be helpful. And what about that facility the facility bronco because. That's a pretty big hospital. Great I'm so it inspired and as I can tell it all the other services in the hospital closed that the emergency room is staying open. They're calling it at at satellite emergency facility that now wonders that. And the late in the Carney hospital which afterward on just a few miles away in Dorchester. And so if someone needs to be admitted to the hospital and they would be transferred from that satellite emergency ability to one of the other. Many hospitals nearby. In the meantime can be. Can Steward sell that facility I mean I know they have to keep an emergency room there but can they sell the rest of the facility or. Have they said what they're gonna do with that actual structure there. They haven't said anything about the property at the ticket question that will have to watch tackle and. Howard right is that at that a big piece of property there in sort of an eyesore they don't do something with it certainly it's worth a lot of money obviously. I'm sorry react to thank you very much we appreciate your insight. I write it. You know there it is never has been clear this is not been transparent from the get go. Because suddenly. You know they by the hospital they get permission to do so we signed this deal yup. They put. What they said was I don't know a 150. Million dollars with a new equipment in it. And then all of a sudden said they don't have a patients and they can keep an open in the cuper keep it. What's it it doesn't make a ton of sense because you would figure again you're not doing this deal the beginning list. If you don't think it's going to be something that makes sense for your company is a wholly not in the stored isn't in the business of trying to make bad business deals and fortunately in this case. Looks like they they they did and now of course they're trying to figure out a way you know how come we minimize the damage in a way. That you know allows us to eventually get out of this a little sooner than expected. While still avoiding you know that those long term losses that I just. CN what I understand I gotta tell you if I was a living in the community that has community hospital that some kind of being. Health care company like Stewart. Was coming in or let's say partners and buying my community hospital. What I can't understand is how as a community member and my protected. If they've signed an agreement. And big the big attorney general to settle the agreement is on point and it in mid defined for what you you're not the protection for their consumer in the community. You're not but again keep in mind the contract that's signed a contract between that the buyer in the cell OK so if the buyer and the seller with the help of the attorney general can end up coming to an agreement. That you know modifies that will they're entitled to that's within their rights you can always a few of consent of both parties you can always modify the agreement but it. I can do you like this when it comes to healthcare you have to the consent of the attorney general. And part of the consent of the can and attorney general was based on the idea that the hospital would not be closed until 2017. So what I don't understand is why is she not finding them. For closing this hospital. Two years ahead of time what I do believe that god Sydney original deal there were no finds built in the and that doesn't make a public since me and I go back to exactly what it just says dear so as a community member pilot on the South Shore and partner's committed to buy my community hospital. I gotta say wait a minute how one might protected. Unease to have in this hospital here you know this is where my kids were born is where my parents go this is where we go. How in my eyes consumer protected. If if they there's there's no way to ensure that this hospitals fail like this and I guess there's not because the attorney general did put that in this country. No rookie even without a sale there's no guarantee we've seen hospitals that had to close their doors even without sales in this case I think it's it's more concerning for folks because partners came in and said look we're gonna keep this open for at least seven years you're Stewart Arabs are. Came in instead we're going to keep this open or at least seven years. And you know while they were able to negotiate with the the seller and eventually say okay here's the new. Deal that we're actually going to put on the table. It's concerning for the consumer but again there's there's nothing up with anything there's nothing you can do if if if a business goes out of business that's just that's. Well that's true but again I go back to the idea that there was a contract that was signed and that contract said. That you have the right to by the hospital if in fact. You keep it open until 2017. And is an okay. And they signed it. And then there's no repercussion here only if you gotta keep a satellite. ER well. I don't know if that does it again if you can come to us an amicable settlement were both parties' settlement that is good for the consumer. Why does every cent what is this what is ever said it would have to be good for the consumers large responsibility whole point of the that's the whole point of the attorney general being involved in misty. Looking out for the consumer. It would but I I'd like I have Y one medical and you know one big medical conglomerate is being allowed to bind us. And I understand that the the concern is that there are going to be enough services for people in those local communities but again if Stewart comes in and look. Maybe there was something they didn't know originally maybe there was something that wasn't disclosed that I don't know why why why they're going back on this are quickly because transparency issue again transparencies the problem. But again there's something that happened in the last couple years where they said look this is no longer feasible for this and the attorney general agreed and off. To be able to renegotiate the deal that's that's what I come back to on this is that both parties agreed to win at the end ever day. So I have to. And I go back to transparencies the issue here the rest should know why the attorney general allowed them to do this. It's back to school time and it's time for you to brush up on your education about estate planning. While that senator patty you kind of sit around on weekends ago what's that you are I guess a sewage in the fridge yeah Holler but that's you're known a lot of times if I you know start saying OK am I hungry not. Again you have a glass of water you go for walkers of Galveston cannot actually hung Europe's right when your busy and go for hours and hours and hours and not touch a bite and everything about it I think that the brain when its board just doesn't really understand what's going on at all it just completely just connects. So people are starting to think about taxes. 82 at the end of the month of course it temperatures and it W twos and so on and so forth and I've talked about this before your initial I just cannot blue read. The stats that they are sending of the higher arrests and the fact check that. US taxpayer if you have any questions. Chances are good the IRS is not the only answer them because they just don't have enough people at the IRS to answer the phones so you know. If you're a tax prepare or. Don't plan to call the iris the American cancer and now they're saying. That you're gonna have to wait considerably longer for your tax return. Yeah in what they're saying is that it's for Europe for tax refunds most folks a lot of folks and of getting those refunds they prefer to get on that little bonus at the end of year. And essentially what they're saying. Is that people who file paper tax returns might have to wait you wait an extra week for their refund or possibly longer. So you figure normally utilized eight. I'm sorry to being penalized essentially you know you have to wait well. And a certain level I do think that. Filing by paper is start it again in the minority at this point the majority of people do you file right now in. Especially if you're not doing in the busiest season like right up at the jet line you can typically get those and is used a few days but if you're looking at a paper return especially if you during the during the busy season. Right before April 15. I mean you're talking this could be a 234 weeks or even longer before you end up getting that money back. Actually. Well what they're talking but here's number when they're gonna have a higher increase the pace of this assault budgetary cuts that's what's happening. So they're going to be hiring freeze that hiring freeze combined with attrition is gonna meet about at. Three to 4000 fewer full time employees at that agency up. That's going to be by the end of June and over five year period they anticipate 171000. Fewer. IRS employees than what we had in 2010. Two days after tax season. They are actually talking about having to shut down. After shutting down Hartman shutting down for a couple days because they just cannot and you know can't at the furlough essentially for two days out these employees because they can't afford to pay them. And there are also odd delaying some IT investments most notably. Some that offer protection against identity theft which is a major property tax return. Well here's the only good news in all of this they're anticipating many many fewer audits. Because they don't have the personnel to go through the taxes to determine who meets on a plus have the audits performed. Well that's good news for I guess that's only that's probably the only good news for the pack to silver lining crack you don't take you longer to get your money you don't have as much identity theft protection but at least you probably not as likely to be on here's the good news when you make mistakes because you have no want to talk to about it because there's nobody on the other end of that phone. You won't be on it because nobody's gonna know you made the mistake. Likewise have seen cases though where the iris is actually made mistakes and audit people than it. Imagine if the IRS audit you require you know they request money as it lucky you know. This W to this yet that this this didn't show up. And they're actually wrong and you can't get ahold of how you want to see if I had now the it's terrible if the advice I would give everybody in an opener gives its sights on a regular basis Hampshire Turkey kills him. And 33 this morning at a special guest who can talk about two things a lot. What are those good things football and wine does it get any better. A beer might be a come why it's close this similar crab cakes at football did. Dave at don't get me started. Drew Bledsoe is gonna join us and he is going to be talking to us about it. I his winery action as a Weiner. Weiner out while while Washington called double back winery. And there's been a change the laws here in Massachusetts Welch will now allowed Drew Bledsoe to ship wine into this state. And always felt really strongly about that because he is a real tied at Massachusetts and so he's excited about it knicks believe all of us a chance to. Sample his wife you know David here's the mistake you made you should've asked him to shoot the wine. In two day. We could've tried it prior to the shell. Fighting game plan as well now you're trying to weaponry that is I would like to be able to just telling the truth about going on I'm just and it says Lotta Lotta doctor Klein. And I was in it for myself and I thought well I don't know I don't know nonaligned record I'll really like this if she does. See you could asked him to ship us a little one and nowadays are water just didn't. Want a guy that's it now heading north to ship me about life is fair. Now they think they need us in the half of bodily I mean wolf we'll move on so. Anyway Drew Bledsoe coming up in just a few minutes and fortunately now we do have odd Geoff Reeves from market over from investor place rather on the phone with us and Jeff I appreciate you coming on today. Got a problem. Jeff I know that you haven't article they came out yesterday talking about Google and some of the things that investors might have wrong with the stock right now what. What exactly is the article talking about. Yet so two everybody else is one of the bigger companies without their and had a pretty good run a couple years ago I got all of them hard content down pretty sharply. In the last six months or so actually that number it's down about 50%. Though you know there were disappointing third quarter earnings and think a lot of people are worried that Google is in the next Microsoft right when he beat tech companies which is waters in the wilderness actor. It's got most of this group behind it but I I think that those fears are overblown there's a lot more reason to invest. He duel and I think Walter is given the company credit for it. So when you this company I guess just on a pure valuation basis you know where where does it stand right now. Yeah I mean surprisingly there's a lot of people depicts the market it's grossly overbought I'm I'm I'm babbling on and it can't if you look back historically the markets speed broadly I think it's in line with where did in the modern era program I don't really care about valuations back and in 1911 for the Baltimore opera company or whatever I mean do that in a much different world now but so based against what the market that right now I think fairly valued. Com and Google in particular is looking pretty good it's got oh. Current price earnings ratio that's in line with the market forward PE. Sixteen or seventeen right now which is about within the market at large in the tech heavy NASDAQ-100. Actually has its order multiple more like nineteen or warnings though Google it. Not overbought and when you consider the fact that a couple of years ago is going to be he would want me historically the Mexican at a cheap so I don't I don't by the notion that Google was. Just bit up on the prospect of profits are going to be aired its overvalued I think it's actually hitting it it it pretty fair valuation based on what its earnings projections are. Now what about when you look at regulatory risk because I know that there is an ongoing believes anti trust suit that's not taking place in Europe right now. What exactly is the status over there and is that anything that investors here should be concerned about. Yeah I got the biggest have a lot of grip that's out there you know Europe kind of got really draconian with a lot of US tech companies after the it would no revelations about a year ago. A lot of Europeans were concerned about privacy that economists at certain bill in Germany that. Don't try to pass that would threaten to break out Google I don't know how bad German legislature there Erica could break out Google an American company but. That candidate is illustrative of what the mind that is right now I think it's. You know some of regulators were sharpening their not to overstate it if if Google does say the prolonged legal battle there. I mean sanctions or or whatever would come any time soon. But it it took state the burden of a prolonged legal battle that's pretty costly. However you know I'm I'm kind of of the Marty York got a lot bigger problems right now that an Internet privacy and you know it all that metrics over there should deflation is this fear that the economy kind of slow down I think. Regulators and politicians are probably gonna focus on something else I'm hopeful that it was just kind of fashionable thing. They Google and across payers in 24 candidate out there and I trust which is a little bit overblown. I want to get anything like that parliament I think it's going to be very very good from Google's stock investors yet the more certainty in the company go forward. Now when you look at consumers increasingly moving over to mobile obviously Google has the dominant. My share of the marketplace through their android platform. It how is that affecting revenues overall because obviously as people move more to a mobile platform how does that is it affecting their search business and anyway. Yeah I mean so I had another big story that's out there that people are using apps not the not not the web so people who spent a product that could see that as many do. The concerns about Google's search market here in mobile kind of declining if you know apple decides what I wanna move away from Google's search. But techniques you know that I'm the token that's been on the cost per click metrics I think it's just one dimensional. That there's been a lot of attention on the fact that what Patrick what. Advertising get to charge. For each impressionable at that hasn't it been declining in Marla it's true it's it's kind of two part. Not equation you need to make is that. Yeah at that site now what there's no excuse but it beat box and its people Qwikster and copy 2.5 hours about it and Google make a living by. The it it's fine article prop it if their pocket two dollars and fifty cents. Even if only wanted a hundred people by the way are all ones and people like that way I wrote a book about it the same bubble that they've that. It's it's a function of volume is low cost Berquist pat Patrick I think there's been too much. Attention paid that could Google search is actually I was still kind of got to tell it on the body in front even if it doesn't have a pill and an actual cost per click metric. I think you know a big picture it as as mobile calls I think advertisers after the ball a ball. So are those Google but I don't think that that became became winner I think that there's a lot of elaborate they can poll even if the actual. Cost per click goes down because the ads themselves are not the fact. Jeff got about a minute left to know another question people than to have about Google. They tend to sit on a lot of cash they they like to make big acquisitions. Anything on the horizon and that fraught. Yeah I mean I definitely had a Radenovic. A big deal by the Google has made it ought not about a year ago a lot of people thought I was at 3.2 billion dollar boondoggle that can result in much but I would say that. Ya gotta have faith in Google that bought YouTube in 2006 and eleven profitable that's been very very shrewd. Now that we had little contact. You know to Google does have all the effort out there some people think that that are. Particularly good Google fiber is an actual fiberoptic. Internet program for the tribe didn't like that he's around America. And able but that's not an accord that as well. Berkeley is at a longer term about sir I think that's the most important thing Google has got on board is that eventually. I mean what we're reaching peak page you're right how many more quick to people get a much bigger and Google's brand yeah. I think it's very important for there to evolve beyond that and I think that the cash is going to be a lot of drop out of it but the video. Tolerable Jeff I appreciate you coming on with us today and I thank you for all the insight into Google today. But are out all right that was Jeffries from investor place and certainly get a lot of folks have all beaten up on Google recently. And certainly there's some questions about whether or not they're able to grow their revenue. But I think that this is a company that has long been able to innovate and continue to grow into new areas the people didn't really expect of them. And I don't doubt the they have some things up their sleeve I think. The next ten years I think the dominant players in tech you're gonna continue to be damn and Amazon that apple has more questions than Google actually. Do you I do. And you think that because you just don't think they have anywhere to go I think that Apple's creativity unfortunately is faltering and I think they've shown an unwillingness to move past their basic hardware software platform where is Google has their hands. In all kinds of new venture right just to apple took a hit and because of I did watch I did and I did not sell on the way they'd hoped it would. A piece of the answer to our last question who was the first Europeans to reach Delaware. I was right it was the dot it was I'd dots I had no idea how to say it without. Without giving away did you. I think it's so once it reached another state to look at once they are a lot of oranges they found New York is that would give it away so it had to be discrete and Iraq job you did a fantastic job in Caron and read through the lines there and she knew in experience in branding and Karen thanks very much for listening she can blanket today in which it is good data have appointed day for the polite yet to be a great day to have a blanket. And a lot Lee glass of wine and sit next to the fireplace witty thing I think so but I know until recently that was and cost well it wasn't possible to have any kind of line from double back winery delivered to your home. Until just recently and the reason we bring this up is because the owner of double back winery is on the phone with us right now mr. bullet it but Barack Obama Drew Bledsoe. Isn't forever. A New England Patriots quarterback I think all of us know him certainly as a quarterback but did you know that he's also a one man. I certainly did Andrew where I'm very happy to have you on the phone with us today. Hey guys that symmetry have a beyond. And just so you know you know I I think release any date that though it is denied there the government requirement that by the aren't they. Now drew do you do you know one another as you obviously know me into a does any day is a good day for the night so first up tell everybody about your experience with double back. You know it's been really really. Them you know it when I transitioned out of football. I knew that I was there was going to be too young. It is innocent Iraqis cheered me should be retired you know when you when you when you play professional sport and so privileged that. To play game for a living you know one of the one rather than the courts suit bit you're way over the hill when you did hear an early mid thirties. And and that's not that's that's just relieved that the to really retire and I knew that I had to have something pick up my mind to work on most passionate about the movement it. And you know just really fortunate that. Number one weapon had a passion for one but also my little hometown where where'd grew up. With the funny nimble Washington. Follow up playing football had become known as a degree. The wind great growing regions of the world and portable Bluetooth to start a business go back to my home and reverend next door neighbor grownup there to be about. Rock star in the wide world make one forest and then. This is good and it's been a lot of fun but it is a fantastic learning experience and respect going to business school that. That set in the white industry art before more expensive. But but but it didn't really it's been really exciting no look the Korea but the. Now drew what have been some of the major roadblocks and actually being able to ship wine to Massachusetts is that it's a pretty long process correct. You know it has been and you know I think I'm getting more credit than I do I'm kind of a poster child if you will for the Europe but the movement that there are a lot of people who worked very hard. Some horror or. As they've legislators who who have. And a great job trying and did this this law change. And really you know what it is when you when you look at it on audits on its base in there there's a reason behind what the former law was but. Both those reasons a thinker hypocritical and and and really didn't belong anymore. You know when you look at it from a business standpoint from the standpoint of our business. It would be like having consumer product that being required by law only help one customer. Yup and other customers the distributor of and they can but thankfully we have a fantastic distribution relationship in Massachusetts. If Carolina wide inserted under the market haven't done a great job picture well on the right there's been direct talks and so on the board but. Most of her for consumers also have the option. Going directly some in the bottom one. So you sort of explain to true but explain to those who are listening. What this means for them. You know what this means is that if there's a particular wind that that you by conservative ones like my Carter or are small wineries that are. And hard to get where you have now that he didn't. And even just three weeks ago. Is the option to. All the Weiner go online. Order. One and have a delivered straight to your door rather than having to put the work throughout. The local ball up and by the way we we do encourage people is in order or local. Retailers in there that are great partner for us and and will always continue to. However that aspect of our business but it also it's just an option with an option for for consumers in the it's something that's that it's a bit to change it really is beneficial in in everywhere obviously in other more. More revenue for the state via licensing and tax revenue. More flexibility for the consumer better for small business and and Maryland was the most recent stable format to submit a change in and there are. Retailers actually saw an increase in wine spilled when they outlawed in. And the simple reason that as a people the more excited about one in the what's important step. And visits it's beneficial really most most of. How many states actually don't allow. One to be shipped. Massachusetts. Woes. 01 of eleven and another and remaining. That don't allowed direct shipping. That the next largest with a computer and some vineyard Georgia. But the next the next beautiful. And it after the argument that they'd like you can't wait mr. smaller but it. The business import more business or not that's really. You've been important Massachusetts. Is the seventh largest wine consuming state. In the union. It was by far the largest that there was the correct. I'd say about us here drew. A. People are very sophisticated. And well over spears. At the injury you don't bird. That the cute people. Dreams just don't know as well and I caught a lot of stressful playoff games. Ager you know one of our listeners is texting and right now and this is a question came to mine mine but is it cheaper if I receive direct. Directly or liking the same amount that would affect or retailer. I. It similar. I think most in most retail outlets there in Massachusetts just using our wide as an example I think if there's shelves that. It's some wearers you know kind of in between 95 and a hundred dollars. You buy it off our list that this is just our our art our flagship brand with its it's 89 dollars and our list. Put this month where we're covering shipping among covering chipping just because and so excited because in the Massachusetts. But this month and actually be cheaper. They are going forward. We hear it and shipping it becomes similar. Price quote. And event it's there's you know. But it of the problem and it and it our production level is that. You know we just don't make very much warrants solos so. We allocated toward different distributors. You know the driver for people to go to orbit rather than their local all the trouble dispute scarcity. But it's a similar priceless. Derby scene pretty good demand in the first couple days since you've been able to do this. Yeah we haven't been great we. We just launched yesterday. You know we were we were actually quite surprised. How quick they are licensed in that we respect goes to pick a couple of months after the first year we got the largest inspect the first. The first week which is great we have to jump on with our. And bitter. Her or what is built system updated. All of us we just launched yesterday and and in the what he you know hours I would go to a couple hundred customers aren't too thin and good and then it's obviously exciting different builder. I that would our friends up their investment. Tell everybody how they can get hold of your lines. Yes that's a far distance but the double back dot com that's that's that's really go in and the people that are listing out there if not already on our list we've added that this commitment that an issue with their point is built system where. When he joined the list after we released. That we couldn't get the free shipping option onto this service so people dormant. And by white right now just just. When art does note that that our people attracting when your commitment to that that should be. Absolutely not a drug I got to turn to this weekend just briefly. And what what are your thoughts about the game coming up on meanwhile what are you expecting. Unexpected effect a ballgame you know to be honest active the colts are playing really good football and if Andrew Luck is residences. Is that. That upper Echelon of and a poke quarterbacks were use of force to be reckoned with so I think the patriots to win the game but but I see this one being close in the fourth quarter when they're gonna have who have. You know potentially you know have to put some points on the board in the in the fourth quarter the someone with a victory at negatively affect the game like it was a lot of. Yeah and I think all of us are very excited about it too. I think it'd be even better if I was enjoying a lovely glass of double back wine. I totally you admitted that Olympic that we are doing that that that is available. Primarily only throw that we've we've got to of this we've got what I think is perfect tailgate warrants which is called split open in the line which. It's the stuff that we were district around the house that's so it's the lower price point in Mexico and to have a pool rule package it's a one leader. What top cover. It's what the problem the market break it and so when people start to integrate that into their patriots pregame routine going forward. Absolutely what we hope we've got at least two more games coming our way this season and I totally agree that a Drew Bledsoe thank you very much it's double back liner you be sure you check that again it's double back wondering dot com. Well I'm not ashamed to admit that trying to push now if you lower. I understand I'm not your guy and that's kind of funny how this related. This law change like all this being in the news and drew being out there but I for some reason it's completely forgot the could still get this in the stores in Iraq right right but obviously a lot of people it's easier it's convenient so. In a brief notoriety to a guy news. Great guy and it's where he's doing don't great. Well he's got that we certainly appear in Massachusetts I was saying you know I would to the Super Bowl when he meets. Playing we're playing they Green Bay Packers in New Orleans and now that the outcome I don't recently wanna bring that up. The outcome wasn't so great but on the it was a great experience it was the first time that since I've been bought and. Boston that he you know we got super lucky I mean again he was part of that team that really crowned the patriots franchise absolutely did. Absolutely amazing job. The patriots brought it here in isn't he a Smart guy because he's absolutely right you know you're old when you're 3435. Years old yup when your at professional athlete like that he knew he was not gonna just say it. So he has turned. You know what he loves into it the second passion that he had. Into something into a viable business yeah it's really terrific up. Again for anybody who's interested because now you can't have it delivered to electorate directly to your home it's double back winery. So I just Google double back winery confided in me to ever actually never seen it. I'm gonna start looking for and I I don't know how people shop for one position somebody winds in him and stores I don't know how people find anything and usually if if you're somebody who enjoys one and you asked them if they character bullet so's France in aria from his winery and I'm sure they would know you're talking about local celebrities and how they. Turned their ideas in their businesses into money many money. I was reading an I didn't see goodness that Roger Berkowitz who certainly is a local celebrity of the sound. He's the owner of legal seafood he apparently now he's selling on one of the home shopping networks it's shop HQ network. Yeah and he went on and apparently I was selling everything from fully and in your own Boston cream pies crab cakes lobster tails I everything right down to the famous clam chowder. And essentially what he was doing. Was selling big package it was that he had this great package you think he was black tiger shrimp. Aunt and instead of 24 crab meat stuffed prawns. Four it was five payments of 1995. And you know apparently. Making pretty pretty big moves and being able to do this he. Got to tell you you know he says that he took a lot of ribbing from people for having done it but you know these celebrities who go on these shopping networks they make a fortune. A they sell they sell out of it before I shut it it happens almost instantaneously if you know are you lucky enough to be able to get your product. On one of the shopping network you know and of course he's he's saying you know line. I'm doing a service to everybody because I'm getting the legal seafood brand out there and giving people outside of the New England area an opportunity. To sample. Their fair which has terrific and that's a group nineties probably do himself a pretty good favors well wouldn't think alone and I would imagine GI he did fairly well firms. You know it it it certainly doesn't sound chief policy that much you we start babies. It's celebrities you take advantage of that and there are who have a brand that. They can take advantage and it did for them I was looking at this story about foreclosures in Connecticut chat did you see this its seems to be getting better by 2014. Was still a really tough year. In the state of Connecticut. Yeah and this is really across the board in the country but when we look at Connecticut in particular. Foreclosures fell by about 17%. Down to about 161741. Compared to over 40000 in the previous year. And really at most that was driven by the fact that you had less homes that were actually starting that process last less people who were falling that far behind on their mortgages. And certainly that's a positive sign for the state of Connecticut their housing market because obviously if you go back to 20082009. You saw those numbers significantly. Higher you know insurer in previous charters get that is the difference you know it and remember. The process in Florida for example it took literally years. To two foreclosed home.
